- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: hey everybody welcome back to the daily guards in the big play sports never presented by fainile patmakari alongside Cleveland Guardians on a science side arcade crack is once again in a different location sunrise at five ten a.m. is what I'm told in Phoenix Arizona Kate on his honeymoon joining us on the daily guards.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Kate how are you doing?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: and doing great here bad it's good to be out in some hot weather and by hot weather I mean 110 degrees I don't know how I'm going to be able to get to this week but it will be a good time and obviously to be able to show here blessed to have an individual in my life that celebrate my honeymoon with that is going to allow me to to be on the show here and enjoy some time talking guards
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: But man, what a weekend it was for the the guardians to intuitions, the white socks, a bit of some awkward rain delays, kind of put some tampering into some of the expectations and some of the outings that Cleveland had, but then the less they got through it and here we are with a nice two-two mark and you're going to a pretty busy week.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what a weekend series though.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Thursday through Sunday against the Chicago White socks you end up splitting that series.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: You get crazy walkoff Thursday night and Friday night Kate as well.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: You look at these this four game series right and the run differential was one run in favor of the White socks.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: That tells you just how close the A.L.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Central is right now.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Guardians now two games back in the lost column.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: They had tied them as of Friday night, obviously, but still two games back right now.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of interesting when you look at it.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: You were tied with them and then now you lost two.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So you're two back in the lost column.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully the Guardians can rebound a little bit.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's tons to dive into as well, Brian Rokio with that walkoff, Cleo Watson following with the walkoff as well.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: The Wisex bullpen kind of in shambles.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: We got to get some field talk as well.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Field conditions stop because the Wisex getting a little bit, getting a little bit feisty at the Guardians grounds crowd and up.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: You saw that.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: That is, that screams to me a team that doesn't think they belong up at the top of, you know, the division and sort of a playoff sort of picture where they don't think that they're, they're disrespected by a opposing team's grounds crew when both teams have to plan a field.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into that next segment, okay.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: But where do we start?
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because the Guardians, Thursday Friday, it looked like you could have a four game sweep.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they look phenomenal, those first two games.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think the weird thing is Pat is that kind of overshadows what happened, you know, on Saturday and Sunday because the, you look at how good those two games went and then how, kind of rough the other two ones kind of hard to fix it on, which, which ones you really want to talk about, which ones you want to, again, fix it on.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: But you can't ignore what happened on Thursday and Friday.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: Those were two gritty games by the Guardians where they came back, where we were able to showcase a lot of fight, a lot of grit to come back and win those games.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: And we obviously saw Brian wrote to get involved in the action, Cleo Watson.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Again, we talked about our repeat on the show.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is a young team.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: see very, very young squad and seeing guys like that step up is great about the science for the future because it's not a guy like Reece Hoskins or Jose Ramirez or even also head to the guys who might not be here in in three to five years depending on what happens moving forward.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: But guys that are here to be staples like Brian Roku having what he did in such an emotional moment and then Kulu Watson a guy who just two weeks ago Pat went over 14 through his first four games in the big leagues like this is huge to see guys step up in those moments
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: And as Cleo Watson said, he's hoping to have many more of those moments, but then you kind of go into Saturday and Sunday and you see some of the frustrations out and display the bats couldn't get going in time.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: The arms had some bumps in the road.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: I will go back to it.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: I say it time and time again.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: This bullpen has got to get
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: some things figured out.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because I understand that each guy's head, their moment of, oh, like, for rough, rough showings.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we saw Tim here and have a rough, rough alley.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: We saw, you know, how did guys have roughed out if we've seen Sean Armstrong have rough outings?
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, guys have to just find some sort of consistency because like we've said before, Pat, in one run games, all the different to the world is once fully the bat.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: They showed it on Thursday and Friday in a positive way.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: They showed it the negative way on Saturday and Sunday.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's funny too, because you look at it, that's where divisions are one and lost to on these one run.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you saw it in Chicago in that series as well too.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just one swing in the bat from Cleo Watson can change the game.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: Can sort of change your season to a certain extent as well.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: To Kate, I will say Thursday Friday really did a number of four guardians fans too, because they were really, I mean, we walked over there the way that people were just,
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: you couldn't believe that a walkoff had just been hit right both times because you know it felt like it was finally the guardians breaking loose a little bit getting their their fortunes turn.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: So Saturday when they were down a runner too late in the ball game it kind of felt like okay well who's the next walkoff going to be right like where's the next one going to come from from your guardian.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think they get that benefit of the doubt a little bit more so then teams like the white socks because the guardians and the white socks, they're pretty comfortably young I would say but one thing about them too is like the guardians have that seasoning.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why this team for whatever reason they just kind of that devil magic that guards ball magic that you get sometimes where sometimes you just in late game moments the franchise that you play well with you know the white socks they weren't that long ago a hundred lost seasons you know so stuff like that where
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know the magic of the Guardians having great playoff runs the magic of that sort of stuff in that ballpark as well too that goes a long way There was a ton of confidence even when the Guardians didn't pull through Saturday night kid in that losing that three to one You know the you were waiting for that white socks bullpen to kind of implode you're waiting for the bullpen or the Guardians offense late in the game to actually come through I think that says a lot of where we think this confidence of this level of this team right now is because you were kind of expecting them to win that game on Saturday Yeah, you had to walk off Thursday walk off Friday, but
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: if says a lot about your team if you're expecting them to come through in the late games.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and as you said too, like part of it is just the magic of the moment, like having guys step up and deliver.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that too, there's an argument to made where if on Hell and in Hosea are healthy on Saturday night, maybe that result goes the other direction, or maybe the same case can be made for Sunday.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that no matter what comes down to it, like you see this offense,
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Do what they did earlier Pat, like if you remember like do you ever the first couple of series of the year like the guardians seemingly were winning games just out of the blue out of nowhere we saw Brian broke you with a couple of walk off base knocks we see that time and time again and when guardians can get back to that.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: It produces a number for the organization as a large, and in the fan base, it's awesome to see Rokey was newing a three-war on the season, awesome hedges.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: If you talk about unqualified numbers, leads to this team in WRC class.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: This team's fun to watch because they play gritty, they play guard's ball.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we can get back to that.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing that holds up that guard's ball mentality that I talked about a week ago, Pat Remer said that the identity is kind of gone right now of guard's ball.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: The reason why I say that, Pat, is because the pitching is kind of all over the place, because the pitching needs to be good and consistent for guards ball to be in effect, because that means the game's going to be a three, four game, or a two, three game, or a three, one game, or maybe a four, five game, you can go maybe a maximum there.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: But when games get into that six, seven, eight, nine, ten run category,
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: that you're giving up, then it's impossible for a young spark plug heavy team to go, hey, let's go out there who's going to load the bases, who's going to hit the grand slam?
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's how they play.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: We got a guy on the first and second.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to knock him through advance runners the second and third and then guess what from there we'll make something happen.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like this team has to play together one by one, but they can't do that if they're down four or five runs in the third inning.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just not possible.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, too.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where you kind of get into Stephen Votes decisions where sometimes he punts games a little bit earlier than you would like to because sometimes when the offense isn't stringing things together, that's where you kind of just give up on games and you would never say that, obviously, Stephen Votes would never say you're giving up on a game, but the reality is the reality we're watching at you and I every single day Kate.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: So we know what this team looks like when they're punting a game, Matt Festikets in the game, you know, you're well-dions of the world, those sort of guys.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: No disrespect to them, but one of the most important things to me, Kate.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Steven Quan.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's starting to get those base those base knocks to fall in.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're not great.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Exit velocity.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: They're not high-babbit.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's sort of thing.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: But hey, they're starting to fall in.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: And when those hits do fall in, even if it's every two out of ten times, right?
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like it feels like it's been a lot more out of Steven Quan lately.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Even one hit per game for Steven Quan would be huge.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a couple of times where the alfielder's missed play to ball and he ends up on third base.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: He called that a triple.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's a three base error.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever the case may be.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: But that guy getting on base mort.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: It really changes this ball club.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's been a difference maker too, because it's funny.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: It goes exactly what we talked about a couple of weeks ago, Pat, about how if you can get the outfill going at the same time where it's guys like on Hell, Steven Kwan and Chased a lot of work.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm his with on Hell Hurts, Steven Kwan, Chased a loter and whoever else is out there on the field, maybe it's Daniel Shaman.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: When you can have all of them going at the same time, it makes the world of the difference because Kwan's that gritty at back guy, he's gonna draw a couple of walks, he's gonna get a basic, go on the opposite direction in the last field.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: then chased a lot or can go up there and he can be another outfield that's that's contributing a high level with his home run he had and so when these guys are playing well at the same time it's it's incredible like you look at his last couple of games Steven Kwan has found a hidden every single game dating back to June 27th and along that spell as well he's got two triples and then he's also contributed a couple of runs in there as well so he's finding ways to impact the game and that's what makes it fun right now for Steven Kwan because we're seeing some of
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: All I want to see from Stephen Kwan, Pat moving forward is just keeping this going.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like you're not asking for more.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: You're not asking when to go, hey, I know you're going one for two or one for three or one for four or two for four.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, I don't want you to go four for four with the whole run.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're not asking that.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like Stephen Kwan is playing really strong in the field.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's doing some great, great, great plays that are helping change the
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: We just need to see a little bit more that productivity of the plate like we're seeing right now because it's anchoring the end of the rotation really, the end of the lineup really well.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like seeing a guy who can always get you a hit in the 6, 7, 8 spot in the lineup maybe within the 9 spot at times, that is great for a team.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: And a young team like Clevver and that needs like we've talked about all show long now, those gritty guards ball games.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: And so Steven Kwon doing he's doing, I mean, hey, you can ask for much more than super excited to see.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, and I think too kid you nail it right on the head because expectations have changed right now for Stephen Kwan right like He's sort of one of the older heads on the team right.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just looked up right here.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's got that eight game hitting streak for right next to him.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: It says data birth 1997 right like that is he's one of the older guys on this team, which is crazy to think about two because he's not even in his 30s yet
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe you just turned 30 or whatever, but not September 5, 1997.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, still one of the younger guys in the leagues terms, but he's one of the older guys on this team.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: And once he starts to get those hits going, I think it really does change his lineup too, because there's another guy in that lineup.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: We've moved around quite a bit.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Rokio, man.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's an all-star snub kid.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have to dive into that next because we've got some guardians, all stars.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: A couple of names you might expect.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: A couple of names you might not expect.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dive into that next right here on the daily guards.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: The biggest stage in World Soccer is here, and every goal changes everything.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: And now, Fandle is giving you a reason to root for every single one, introducing every goal pays.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: But on a match and get bonus bets for every goal scored in that match, that's right.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: More goals means more bets.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: And all you have to do is turn on your token.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: from the opening whistle to the final kick.

- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, everybody back here in the Daily Guards, Pat McGuire, alongside Cleveland Guardians on S.I.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: inside of K-Crak, is coming to us from his honeymoon cave over there in Phoenix.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: You got to talk some ball when you can, obviously, it was a 5-10 wake up call this morning with a sunrise, hopefully the jet lag didn't hit you too bad.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Guardians on Sunday, rain delays.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: You can call it jet lag if you want.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of got walked around a little bit.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: But the offense did come to town for the Guardians chased a lot.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, with a big 425 foot homeer, Gabriel, Arias, a three-run homeer.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little bit shocked there, the play in the long ball game there on Sunday Cade didn't come through with the win, 7 to 6 win for the Chicago White Sox, but I thought there were some encouraging sides from the offense.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, certainly so I think a lot of those guys that who talked to him in the last time in Brian Roke used stepping up alongside those of Stephen Cuan and the chase to large of the world.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: And in Brian Roke used the guy who all year long when Cleveland's needs somebody they answer to the call he's done it and it's been incredible to see over the course last 14 games he's got hits and 12 of them.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's also got three multi hit performances during that same spelling, including that that that game that he had a couple of games back against the white socks where he went three for five from the plate with a double.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: The thing about Brian Rokio is that he's never going to provide that power punch.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of like Stephen Kwan in the sense where he rides to the occasion back like two three years ago and Stephen Kwan would do this.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: But he rides to the occasion.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: He sends a ball down the left field line, brings in a couple of runs, puts a blue burn to shallow right field.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like he just does what Cleveland needs him to do.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then the best part too is that this year I know he's had some caught stealing moments, but Brian Rokio is impressed me with his willingness
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: somebody who's in the nine spot isn't going to have many opportunities to get knocked in.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's just the nature of the game, especially in a lineup where Cleveland's kind of tested all year long the one two and three spots.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: But in that nine spot, you might have two outs on the board and if you're going on base, you've got to do what you can.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if he's flying from first to second, getting himself from his foreign position and putting himself in an opportunity for Cleveland to send him home, that's a great sign.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I love what we're seeing from Brian Rokio.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now that question is, and it's the one that everyone's wondering, is he going
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: I absolutely think he's in all stars now because the thing about it is I think he gets penalized a little bit batting down in the nine hole right so Yeah, he's doing what the team is asking of him right a lot of these players sometimes where you know, they are not necessarily in the ideal spot with the short stops.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know the American League short stop is definitely a glamour position But you look at guys like Brian Roku K we throw this up here.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: He was the June defensive player of the month, right like this guy's tracking
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: towards a gold glove right right now.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that preseason as well too.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're like the ceiling.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: I continue to say this about Brian Rokio.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: The ceiling for Brian Rokio is Francisco Lendor.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's got an unbelievable glove.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have the arm Gabriel Iris does, but the way he took over the short stop position, he's definitely tracking towards a gold glove because you just look at the way he's been playing unbelievably defensively.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's worked on it at time.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: And with the bat, too, he's been unbelievable, but the June defensive player of the month.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that goes without saying, I think he should be in the all-star game.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of this stuff has to do with kind of like popularity contest.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: That sort of thing where, you know, some players get picked, some players get voted in, that sort of thing.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: But...
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of it has to do with who are you lead wide what is your reputation lead wide right brine rocket doesn't necessarily have that he's got the clutch gene I guess he could say if you wanted to put that on his sort of player stat card it's got the clutch gene but I'm not sure that people see him as a well-rounder player just yet that's why he got snub from the all-star game
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that the big thing for me too is what Stephen Votes said a couple weeks back when those injuries occurred to Jose Ramirez and on how much he said, you know, we're going to treat Brian Rokio like our plug-in play like our guy who can do just about anything on multi-tool or Swiss army knife, however you want to say it because during the spell since moving out of that nine spot and have to be shuffled around he's batted second third, sixth, fifth.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: like the guy has answered any question, Cleveland's had about the line up like, and he's delivered.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I go back to that number.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just said 12 of the last 14 games got in the hidden.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: And during that spell, again, he's bettered second, third, fifth, sixth, eighth.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: what player in baseball can give you that type of productivity no matter where he's playing.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that's not the case.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: And to see him be able to play so well to play, go defensively and doing he did a couple of series back.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who was that against power?
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Was it the angels with the nationals or somebody when he was spitting the he did those spitting the throws to first, he fell on the ground.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: We had his butt on second base turn the double play like, yeah.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: They he's incredible.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's a remarkable player at both both sides of the ball and do I like she could have been an all sort of a hundred percent.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm happy to see the other guys do it because Bazaar and Messex Smith, they've all worked hard this year.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, those three guardians, man.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't necessarily think to see Travis Bazaar making an all-star game.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: As we pointed out, Jack put it up on the Big Play socials account, where he's the first one one over all picks, since Paul schemes to make the All-Star game.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of two ever, uh, one ones in their rookie season to make the All-Star game.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: That is unbelievable stuff out of Jack great job there as well.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Pazana, obviously, you know, ever since he came up, he struggled in the first going.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like that always sort of sort of happens with the guardians' rookies this season, where they struggle on their, uh, you know, their initial ascend, I guess you could say into their
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: expected him to see expected to see him there, Parker Messick, another one, though like you got to take another peek at the Fandle sportsbook for the AL rookie the year race because I think it's tightening a little bit too with Murakami still being out for the Chicago White socks we didn't get to see him in that series as well, but three very well-deserving candidates.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just a little bit surprised that those guys actually did make it with the rookies, but Kate Smith man leads the way for your guardians.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I would have loved to see him Brian Roki out there.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's the thing.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, you obviously wish to see Brian Roki and there, but if you can't have Brian Roki, you may have to have one of those shiny rookies like Travis Pazana in there.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: The guy, of course, I want to single out here in this all-star, you know, candidacy in the guy when it making it was park or messing.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: I've said it through and through.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: The guy deserved it, no doubt.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people were claiming for Gavin Williams, but Gavin Williams had a struggle some June month.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think that the consistency and the reliability
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: invaluable.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: And he has been phenomenal this season, 18 games started, 106 innings pitch.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: She's got a 26% strikeout percentage.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's got just a 7% walk rate.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: His ground ball percentage of 43% who is forcing guys into weak contact.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: But that ERA2A is just phenomenal.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the kid has played great is war at three.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's helped contribute so much to this team.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: And just 25 years old.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: What more could you ask from him like he has been outstanding this year and I'm super excited to see what he can keep doing down the back half the campaign I think insistence is going to be a big thing, but he even said it like he's just blessed to receive the honor being all star and I think this is going to be wonders for his confidence because that if you remember back.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: back in early.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was March.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: I told you, I said, one of my personal sources had told me that Parker Messick's family, like it had said that he was really nervous about being sent down early in the year because remember he was competing with Logan Allen, but that that final spot in the rotation.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was in can-tillo, in Messick.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was Messick, it was Allen and can-tillo, trying to fight with that final spot.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: And now we've seen the emergency can-tillo.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen Messick play super well.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like man, like you can't be happier for a kid than Parker Messick
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: what in the sense as we talk about to because you know thinking are am I going to make the opening day roster and now he takes a no hit or the ninth inning now we're talking about the end of a baseball in an elimination game in a three game series right like he's in that consideration do you give them the ball on game one right that's where that's the time we're talking about right now for park domestic sky seems to be the limit with that guy man i mean there's
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: From the left hand at side, we'll take any starter we can get as well to he's not even that certainly a big guy.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: But the way he's able to just move his pitches around it's really great.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think the head on his shoulders is such a such an impressive thing as well, too, because you know, he got hit around a little bit in his last start and it wasn't like,
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's shelved by any means, but it wasn't necessarily the cleanest start we've ever seen from Parker you're going to get those in the major league level right you get about 30 starts if you're lucky the guardians have had every single starter continue healthy all season long so as long as Parker can stay healthy that is what we love to see one last thing I want to get to hear Kate on the all start talk, would we have seen on how Martinez would we have seen Jose Ramirez would we have seen chased a lot or all make the all start to game if they stayed healthy.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: If I had to go down the list of who I'd say likely hood wise of making the All-Star Game, I'd probably go a cozy at the top.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think changed a lot as your number two as a DH selection.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think on Hell's Year 3.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why I say that is because on Hell's had some incredible moments this year.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: But as numbers across the board don't really signal a guy who's all-star worthy just yet.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's only got like, I think it's something crazy, like, seven walks this year.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know watching everything, but when you're a guy like on Hell,
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: not hitting the ball terribly frequently and fairly consistently.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be able to lose draw some walks in that regard to get your OVP up.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't really do that, but he had a great year, and I'm not gonna knock that by the means.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: The water, a guy too, who like we were talking about.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: But then he's kind of the opposite.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's had some really, really just average games across the board all season long.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of walks, draw lots of hits in sporadic moments, but not really that power shot until recently, again, like he had early in the saddle series.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then, Hozy, Hozy's just Hozy.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he was lighting up a bit as he headed towards you all started game, so I think there's a chance he would have gotten selection based off in the name value alone too.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: But if he could have delivered a couple of clutch moments, there's maybe a chance that selection happens.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see, I mean, I think that next year's a chance
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be shocked if the lottery on Hell or Hose you're not in the All-Star Game.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like those three to me are guys who I believe like this time next year will be in the All-Star Game.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, franchise cornerstones as well.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, all three of those guys.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Kade, there's one more thing we're going to wrap up with Larry Doby Day was on Sunday, but before we get there, I want to talk about our three takeaways.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: You wrote about on the The White Sox series.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: Guardians won game back.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: 47 to 44.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: I do believe it is right now.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: As we head towards the All Star Break, we're basically approaching the 100 game.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Mark already for this season, which is unbelievable to think about.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Just a couple of takeaways to the Guardians and the White Sox, they can hang, right?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: The White Sox can hang.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: You did certainly.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: that didn't necessarily think that they'd be a juggernaut in the A.L.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Central this season, but the way that they play, it's funny to talk about how these guys go back and forth and they're still only a little bit above 500 right now, but the white socks, they're definitely for real.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, three things I've talked about in that was just like, you know, Cooper angle, having some trouble some moments were still trying to hopefully see him kind of break out here.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: I talked about channels for Zana.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of had that research into that series.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about him going, what was it over 13 or over 14, snapped that heading of that series and really emerges as a spark plug for this team over the weekend and then as well, Brian wrote you having a great weekend.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm curious to see how things keep going for the Guardians.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: especially as we get ready for another big busy week here on the road for them.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: But man, I mean, you could ask for much more this week and obviously you'd love to same go three at three at a four or four for four, but some of them almost they delivered like it was a memorable week and that's what you're asking for for a young team who's still awaiting the return of Jose Ramirez and on how smart he is.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely standing a 47 and 44 keeping your head above water.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's all we can kind of really ask from this team right now, especially when they're keeping the the run totals a little bit low as well.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so obviously struggling through some games at certain points, but able to come through in the clutch moments, Cleo Watson able to come through.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to be a legit star here in Cleveland, so hopefully he's well.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: that rise.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing but positive signs there from Khalil Watson lasting on a wrap up on here is Larry Dobe Day at the ballpark on Sunday.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: They honored Larry Dobe.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: There was some rain delays in there as well.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: But Larry Dobe Jr. throughout the first pitch as well as the hot dog vendor, the long time hot dog vendor at the ballpark, which was really great to see too because important to me that Kate, honestly, we got to talk about this where MLB needs to recognize Larry Dobe Day as being a basically like a holiday across the whole league because
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: Got Jackie Robinson Day.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Roberto Comenade.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: I do think Larry Dobby needs to be mentioned in the same sort of echelon as those guys because you look at Jackie Robinson, right?
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: He broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, but when you look at it, that was the National League and the American League.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: Those are two separate like entities at that time.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Larry Dobby, you know, he broke the color barrier in the American League.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he needs to be recognized as well.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think MLB is doing themselves, you know, any sort of justice.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think Larry Dobby needs to be recognized even further than just here in Cleveland.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 100% I mean to you just look at like not not just the impact he had on the on the game from that perspective, but just how great of a player he was to it's not like we're trying to say like, oh, he was just like a bench warmer and he just.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was he was a pioneer in that role, but then to he was a.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: dominant baseball player like he finishes career what was at 17 year career.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: He finished with 280 batting average nearly slugging 500.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the guy was just remarkable.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: He hit almost 300 whole runs in his career over a thousand RBI like this is a guy who just was incredible.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see it.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said it right, Pat, but like it should be.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: July 5th should be Larry Dobby
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's already a great weekend of baseball across major league baseball.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think letting the Guardians in this franchise have that day and honestly speak more to across the league.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think that name should be spoken about more often.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: So Larry Dobe, make sure we get that one retired and make sure that day is preserved as well as it is here in Cleveland by Kade.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Great weekend of baseball.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Guardians split that series.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think we got a ton more coming up the headed for the All-Star Break.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're headed for the 100 game mark.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: unbelievable to think about that we're uh into July already.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: June is coming gone and half of the season basically is already coming gone.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Cade, we got so much more to dive into.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully in and out of the Honeymoon, we'll get a little bit of Cade later on this week, but honestly, make sure you turn it tuned in.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Carlos Bayer got this Wednesday as well to Cade enjoy the rest of your Honeymoon.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk to you tomorrow on the daily guards.
