Speaker 4: in a promo somewhere. You're not going to break into

• 3:10
  Speaker 7: You don't worry?
• 3:11
Speaker 4: Okay? All right? So hey you been man, good good.
• 3:14
Speaker 6: You know things are getting really busy, uh CMC Foundation.
• 3:17
Speaker 7: It's our big time of the year.
• 3:20
Speaker 6: The Foundation, in fact is proud to be a partner
• 3:22
Speaker 6: with c AMC, the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and
• 3:25
Speaker 6: USA Cycling for the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships
• 3:29
Speaker 6: that are in town this week.
• 3:30
Speaker 4: And you've been down there. I heard you talking about
• 3:32
Speaker 4: that earlier. You've actually been a part of that.
• 3:34
Speaker 6: Like this is a volunteer, Yeah, it's been some time Monday,
• 3:36
Speaker 6: Tuesday and Wednesday as a volunteer and having been there
• 3:40
Speaker 6: in the in the heart of things. I have to
• 3:41
Speaker 6: give a shout out to the c AMC medical team
• 3:43
Speaker 6: that's there as the official medical provider of USA Cycling,
• 3:46
Speaker 6: in addition to a shout out to Mayor Goodwin and
• 3:49
Speaker 6: the Convention and Visitor Bureau team, Tim Brady and his crew,
• 3:53
Speaker 6: and as well as the you know, the street department,
• 3:55
Speaker 6: the fire department, the police officers that are out there.
• 3:58
Speaker 6: Those folks are putting in long hours in the sun,
• 4:01
Speaker 6: the rain, whatever the conditions are. It's certainly an all
• 4:05
Speaker 6: hands on deck approach and it's I think it shows
• 4:09
Speaker 6: well for the city.
• 4:10
Speaker 4: Well, and you know, there's so much going on. Of course,
• 4:13
Speaker 4: we got the high school graduations that are underway. I
• 4:17
Speaker 4: was in Valley Park and Hurricane last night for the
• 4:19
Speaker 4: Run for the Wall event, which they're leaving Hurricane. They
• 4:22
Speaker 4: were due to leave around eight thirty or so this morning.
• 4:24
Speaker 4: Then they're going to the Capitol and then going to
• 4:25
Speaker 4: Greenbrier County after that before they end up at the
• 4:28
Speaker 4: in the nation's capital for Memorial Day. So you got
• 4:30
Speaker 4: that going on. Live on the Levee begins to mind
• 4:33
Speaker 4: at Jim Strawn or Live on the Levee guy is
• 4:36
Speaker 4: going to join us in studio to talk about that.
• 4:37
Speaker 4: So there's a whole lot of stuff going on here
• 4:39
Speaker 4: in Charleston, man, But you're adding to it, not necessarily today,
• 4:42
Speaker 4: but you've got stuff going on too. Yeah, let's just
• 4:45
  Speaker 4: add to it.
• 4:45
Speaker 6: So c AMC Foundation we are doing for the first
• 4:50
Speaker 6: time an event, a fundraising event in conjunction with USA
• 4:55
Speaker 6: Cycling Miles for Mines is what we are calling the event.
• 4:59
Speaker 6: It's a family for only fundraiser that's going to benefit
• 5:01
Speaker 6: CAMC Neurosciences. It's going to take place Saturday, May twenty fourth.
• 5:06
Speaker 6: Registration will be in at four point thirty. We will
• 5:09
Speaker 6: start at approximately five o'clock PM. Registration is going to
• 5:12
Speaker 6: happen in the first floor of the City of Charleston
• 5:15
Speaker 6: Parking Garage, which is adjacent to City Hall. So we're
• 5:20
Speaker 6: encouraging folks to pedal for a purpose ride like the pros.
• 5:22
Speaker 6: This is an opportunity to get on the course yourself
• 5:26
Speaker 6: as a non sanctioned athlete and I use the term
• 5:30
Speaker 6: athlete loosely if I'm referencing myself for you, Dave, but
• 5:34
Speaker 6: an opportunity to take on the course see the perspective
• 5:37
Speaker 6: that the riders have seen through downtown Charleston. The course
• 5:40
Speaker 6: will start in front of the four point Sheraton, right
• 5:43
Speaker 6: under the start and finish line arch that USA Cycling
• 5:47
Speaker 6: is set up. It'll go down to Greenborough Street and
• 5:51
Speaker 6: Canola Boulevard intersection, do a U turn, come back hit
• 5:54
Speaker 6: Brook Street and run the course through downtown and you'll
• 5:57
Speaker 6: finish under the arch again where you started in front
• 5:59
Speaker 6: of the war points. So we're working with the CVB
• 6:04
Speaker 6: and USA Cycling have been able to offer folks who
• 6:07
Speaker 6: may not get an opportunity to be on the course
• 6:09
Speaker 6: because if you're a court martial, you know, people should
• 6:12
Speaker 6: not be walking on the course, they should not be
• 6:14
Speaker 6: driving on the course. But here is your opportunity. You're
• 6:17
  Speaker 6: a court martial, I've been a court a course martial.
• 6:20
Speaker 6: Court martial, not court martial. You say, yeah, you said
• 6:23
Speaker 6: that with authority, Robert. That's why I'm saying that.
• 6:26
Speaker 7: Sure, thank you, David.
• 6:28
  Speaker 8: So.
• 6:29
Speaker 4: But you're not supposed to be on the course, is
• 6:30
  Speaker 4: what you're saying.
• 6:30
Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, you know, folks, they've asked during the active
• 6:33
Speaker 6: race times that folks not walk on the course, drive
• 6:36
Speaker 6: on the course. But this is an opportunity to take
• 6:37
Speaker 6: in the course in a safe way. You can ride.
• 6:41
Speaker 6: It's a four mile ride. We're encouraging families to come out.
• 6:45
Speaker 6: We've registration is twenty dollars a person, or we're doing
• 6:49
Speaker 6: a friendly four pack for seventy five dollars which will
• 6:53
Speaker 6: give you four entries, so a little bit of a
• 6:55
Speaker 6: discount for that. Folks can register online at our website.
• 6:59
Speaker 6: CAMC found undation dot org, slash Bike, or they can
• 7:02
Speaker 6: register the day of at the event.
• 7:05
Speaker 4: So what is the I mean, what's the timeline with
• 7:08
Speaker 4: the other events you know that are going to be
• 7:10
Speaker 4: because I mean, obviously you're not going to have them
• 7:12
Speaker 4: out there with the pros.
• 7:13
Speaker 6: So they won't be with the pros. The the course
• 7:16
Speaker 6: will still be closed, but the riders out there will
• 7:20
Speaker 6: be just part of Miles for Mines at that time.
• 7:23
Speaker 6: The races for Saturday will have concluded. Miles for Mines
• 7:28
Speaker 6: will begin as soon as the last race is over
• 7:31
Speaker 6: for that day, so we're estimating that will be about
• 7:34
Speaker 6: five o'clock PM. We understand it won't be earlier than five,
• 7:38
Speaker 6: So you know, we just asked for folks who are
• 7:40
Speaker 6: participating to give us a little bit of patience when
• 7:42
Speaker 6: it comes to the start time because we're waiting on
• 7:44
Speaker 6: the last riders to come through. But we're pretty confident
• 7:48
Speaker 6: at about a five o'clock start.
• 7:50
Speaker 4: Talked again with Robbie Queen from the CAMC Foundation at
• 7:52
Speaker 4: Dave Vlan Show on five. Any Live is brought to
• 7:54
Speaker 4: you partly by Husband's Pizza. This month, get a large
• 7:57
Speaker 4: at and inch pepperoni pizza and and order sennment if
• 8:00
Speaker 4: it's twenty ninety nine eight m pick up or getting
• 8:02
Speaker 4: delivery by going to Husband's Pizza dot com. Let me
• 8:06
Speaker 4: see what this text here. I think I had a
• 8:08
Speaker 4: text for you. Okay, yeah, this is actually this is
• 8:10
Speaker 4: not for you. The ride just came through Charleston about
• 8:13
Speaker 4: ten minutes ago. According to Steve anam not your ride,
• 8:15
Speaker 4: the Ride for the Wall. Get to know the rides
• 8:17
Speaker 4: going on, right, The Ride.
• 8:18
Speaker 6: For the Wall is always a remarkable event that happens
• 8:20
Speaker 6: here in town, and it's such a worthy.
• 8:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, but they just came according to Steve Animal, they
• 8:23
Speaker 4: just came through Charleston about ten minutes ago. Right, it's
• 8:26
Speaker 4: good south. They headed down to Greenberg County.
• 8:27
  Speaker 9: All right.
• 8:28
Speaker 4: So for people that may not know what, you've been
• 8:31
Speaker 4: on the show numerous times. What exactly is the CAMC
• 8:33
Speaker 4: Foundation who we're raising money for here? Short.
• 8:35
Speaker 6: CMC Foundation is the nonprofit foundation of the CAMC Health System.
• 8:40
Speaker 6: We are the avenue for which philanthropic dollars flow through
• 8:44
Speaker 6: the health system. We are in our forty ninth year.
• 8:47
Speaker 6: Twenty twenty six will be our fiftieth anniversary. So this
• 8:50
Speaker 6: foundation is well established in the community, well respected in
• 8:54
Speaker 6: the community and serves the CAMC Health system, both the
• 8:59
Speaker 6: patients that receive care there, we support our employees, and
• 9:05
Speaker 6: we also support the learners that come through CAMC.
• 9:08
Speaker 7: C AMC provides more.
• 9:12
Speaker 6: Continuing medical education in the state than anyone else, so
• 9:16
Speaker 6: we have a lot of learners that come through our
• 9:18
Speaker 6: door doors and that's something that the Foundation is proud
• 9:22
Speaker 6: to support. The CMC Women and Children's Hospital is one
• 9:27
Speaker 6: of our primary items that we support with a host
• 9:31
Speaker 6: of services there. This particular event, Miles for Minds, is
• 9:35
Speaker 6: going to support c AMC neurosciences. We're CAMC Foundation is
• 9:39
Speaker 6: taking a larger approach in the support of neurosciences for CAMC.
• 9:45
Speaker 6: I think there are going to be some future developments
• 9:47
Speaker 6: with that happening here in downtown that are going to
• 9:50
Speaker 6: be noticeable. So this is a small start at adding
• 9:54
Speaker 6: to the support for that. And you know, the event
• 9:56
Speaker 6: is a great way for people to get engaged in
• 10:00
Speaker 6: this fun and exciting event happening in downtown Charleston in
• 10:03
Speaker 6: a safe manner. We're asking the participants bring their own
• 10:06
Speaker 6: bicycles and helmets. We will not be providing those.
• 10:10
  Speaker 4: Our helmets required.
• 10:11
Speaker 6: Helmet helmets are required to partake of the course. You know,
• 10:15
Speaker 6: we want them to be just as safe as the
• 10:17
Speaker 6: Professional Athlete Center out there. And you know this has
• 10:21
Speaker 6: been is a good way to take on the course,
• 10:23
Speaker 6: do it in a safe way and also give back
• 10:25
Speaker 6: to the community and c AMC.
• 10:28
Speaker 4: All right again, give us more information on the event
• 10:31
Speaker 4: to this all happens Saturday.
• 10:33
Speaker 6: Sure, everything's happening Saturday, May twenty fourth. Registration will begin
• 10:36
Speaker 6: at four thirty pm. The start will begin at approximately
• 10:39
Speaker 6: five o'clock pm. Registration will take place in the first
• 10:42
Speaker 6: floor of the City of Charleston Parking Garage next to
• 10:44
Speaker 6: City Hall. Five o three Virginia Street East is the address.
• 10:49
Speaker 6: Registration is twenty dollars per person or a four pack
• 10:52
Speaker 6: for seventy five dollars. You can register on our website
• 10:55
Speaker 6: CAMC foundation dot org, slash bike, or you can register
• 10:58
Speaker 6: a day of at the site.
• 11:00
Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is pretty cool too, because
• 11:02
Speaker 4: as you said at the outset, Robbie, you're gonna be able.
• 11:04
Speaker 4: This is for families or whomever. You're gonna be able
• 11:06
Speaker 4: to ride that actual course and those of us that
• 11:08
Speaker 4: are working in downtown Charleston you drive it, you know,
• 11:10
Speaker 4: five six days a week, or if you live here
• 11:12
Speaker 4: seven days a week and you never think about what
• 11:14
Speaker 4: it would be like to ride a bike down through
• 11:17
Speaker 4: You think about driving or even walking, but you don't think.
• 11:19
Speaker 4: And then when you watch and I said this on
• 11:22
Speaker 4: the show before, the thing that amazes me about these
• 11:26
Speaker 4: bikers is the sheer speed that they have. I mean
• 11:32
Speaker 4: it's I mean it will knock you down almost on
• 11:34
Speaker 4: the sidewalk. The speed is incredible.
• 11:36
Speaker 6: They are incredible, and especially when you watch the speed
• 11:39
Speaker 6: as they come off Louden Heights as they're coming down
• 11:42
Speaker 6: back onto the south Side Bridge on what I call
• 11:44
Speaker 6: the long course. These are true athletes. And you know,
• 11:48
Speaker 6: I think we saw last year with the medaling of
• 11:51
Speaker 6: Kristin Faulkner here in Charleston who went on to medal
• 11:53
Speaker 6: in the Olympics in Paris. This event will go understand,
• 11:57
Speaker 6: Charleston has it through twenty twenty eight, so we'll see
• 12:01
Speaker 6: another potential Olympic medalist here in a few years, right
• 12:03
Speaker 6: out of Charleston, West Virginia. And c AMC is happy
• 12:06
Speaker 6: to have a part in it.
• 12:07
Speaker 4: And again this is an opportunity for individuals, families, whatever
• 12:10
Speaker 4: to come down here and ride the exact same course
• 12:14
Speaker 4: that that the folks at the Pro Road event are doing.
• 12:17
Speaker 6: Absolutely and who knows, we might have another Olympic Golden
• 12:20
Speaker 6: medalist on our hands one day, maybe a four year
• 12:22
Speaker 6: olds out riding his or her bike, and we'll see
• 12:25
  Speaker 6: them on.
• 12:25
  Speaker 7: The big stage.
• 12:26
Speaker 4: It will not be you though, It will not be me,
• 12:27
  Speaker 4: and it won't be you either. I'm sure I'm a
• 12:30
Speaker 4: little bit little bit past that. All right, Robbie Queen
• 12:33
Speaker 4: say c amc Foundation. I appreciate you being here man,

• 15:18
Speaker 4: the big news, mister scaff is he and a group
• 15:20
Speaker 4: of investors are taking over Phaseias. So I'm going to
• 15:22
Speaker 4: talk to Doug about that coming up. A little bit later,
• 15:25
Speaker 4: I had a text here says, can someone tell me
• 15:27
Speaker 4: where the Run for the Wall is currently? I watched
• 15:29
Speaker 4: them on the West Virginia five one one cameras. As
• 15:32
Speaker 4: I said earlier, Steve Animal sent me a text and
• 15:35
Speaker 4: said that as of he sent me the text about
• 15:38
Speaker 4: nine to fourteen. He says, as of about ten minutes
• 15:41
Speaker 4: ago they had they were in Charleston, and again they
• 15:43
Speaker 4: were going to the capitol. If somebody's out there on
• 15:46
Speaker 4: the course or out there with them or whatever, if
• 15:48
Speaker 4: you want to give me an update, you can text

• 15:56
Speaker 4: will get that information out there. But again, as of
• 15:58
Speaker 4: about nine to fourteen, according to mister Animal of her
• 16:01
Speaker 4: sister station ninety eight seven The Mouth and Wild and
• 16:03
Speaker 4: Wonderful Classic Rock, he got a little video which I'll
• 16:06
Speaker 4: be posting on the Mountain page when I get off
• 16:08
Speaker 4: the air. Of them coming to Charleston. He sent it
• 16:10
Speaker 4: at nine fourteen, said it was about ten minutes ago,
• 16:14
Speaker 4: so that would have been carried the three Noble It
• 16:17
Speaker 4: would have been nine o four right something.
• 16:19
Speaker 7: Uh, yeah, we can't time travel, right, so we can't
• 16:23
  Speaker 7: go backward.
• 16:23
  Speaker 4: Tell you, I don't math, I don't math, I don't math. Matt,
• 16:29
Speaker 4: but Matt Sutton, the chief is staff of a good
• 16:31
Speaker 4: one administration in studio. How you doing, buddy, going good bye?
• 16:33
  Speaker 4: How you doing?
• 16:34
  Speaker 5: Oh?
• 16:34
Speaker 4: You know, just uh, just doing what we do here.
• 16:36
Speaker 4: And so mister queen there for the CAMC Foundation. Now
• 16:39
Speaker 4: adding more to the bike event.
• 16:41
Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean I think it was that. I think
• 16:42
Speaker 13: we talked about this maybe the first day we were
• 16:44
Speaker 13: here in last year. We were really focused on the
• 16:47
Speaker 13: logistics of it, as we should have been, right it
• 16:48
Speaker 13: was our first year, it was USA Cycling's first year
• 16:50
Speaker 13: in Charleston, so there was so much focus on the
• 16:52
  Speaker 13: logistics of it.
• 16:53
Speaker 7: And once we got and got that down, then we
• 16:55
Speaker 7: were able to add some events.
• 16:56
Speaker 13: So adding the fun ride is really excited and I
• 17:00
Speaker 13: think I saw several people on social media posting about
• 17:03
Speaker 13: doing it, had several folks text me as well, just
• 17:06
Speaker 13: about what it was what they could do.
• 17:07
Speaker 4: And you nailed it. You get to ride the course.
• 17:10
  Speaker 7: I mean that's clean.
• 17:11
Speaker 4: What other thing I mean if you're into this sort
• 17:13
Speaker 4: of thing, and many people are, I mean, you don't
• 17:16
Speaker 4: always get to play flag football, you know at wherever
• 17:21
Speaker 4: the Super Bowl is being held. You don't you don't
• 17:23
Speaker 4: get to go to throw out the first pitch at
• 17:25
Speaker 4: Yankee Stadium or you know, this is kind of like that.
• 17:29
Speaker 4: You know ndy five hundred, are we coming up here?
• 17:31
Speaker 4: You know, real soon? And you don't get to drive
• 17:33
Speaker 4: the track, but you actually get to do this.
• 17:35
Speaker 13: Yeah, And I think that's what's really cool about what
• 17:37
Speaker 13: they were able to pull together. And c AMC has
• 17:39
Speaker 13: been a tremendous partner last year, this year into the future,
• 17:43
Speaker 13: not only with bicycling but or the bicycle race, but
• 17:45
Speaker 13: with everything in Charleston, but particularly.
• 17:47
  Speaker 7: The bike race.
• 17:48
Speaker 13: So their idea with this it really is fun. I
• 17:51
Speaker 13: mean I equate it to exactly what you just said, right.
• 17:53
Speaker 13: It's when you get to see some of the you know,
• 17:55
Speaker 13: the Little League teams they go out and they play
• 17:57
Speaker 13: at Gomar Park, right, I mean, you see what the
• 17:59
Speaker 13: kids get excited about playing on that and that's it's
• 18:01
Speaker 13: very similar to that, and it is going to be
• 18:04
Speaker 13: something you know, we see it as you know, a
• 18:06
Speaker 13: road we drive on every day, but to a kid
• 18:09
Speaker 13: with all of the with all the railings put up,
• 18:12
Speaker 13: and having just watched the best athletes in the world
• 18:14
Speaker 13: participate and ride on that course, for you to get
• 18:17
Speaker 13: to do it, it's really cool. I mean I would,
• 18:19
Speaker 13: I would love to. I don't want to embarrass or
• 18:21
Speaker 13: hurt myself, so I'll probably go out there and walk around.
• 18:23
  Speaker 7: But it's just it's just a.
• 18:25
Speaker 13: Really neat thing and really great idea and another way
• 18:27
Speaker 13: when in which we get to get the community involved
• 18:29
Speaker 13: in cycling race and that's what's the biggest part about it.
• 18:32
Speaker 13: The more people we can build. You know, last year
• 18:35
Speaker 13: we said it and I think it's very true this year.
• 18:37
Speaker 13: You know, we have We've always had a good bicycling
• 18:40
Speaker 13: community in Charleston, but we've only seen that grow over
• 18:42
Speaker 13: the last year and I think that's just only going
• 18:44
Speaker 13: to continue to do. You know, the Regatta, Charleston Sturnol Regatta,
• 18:48
Speaker 13: part of their charity that they do or giving away bikes.
• 18:52
  Speaker 7: I think they're giving away a hundred.
• 18:53
Speaker 13: Bikes on Saturday as well, that people can can get
• 18:56
Speaker 13: and if you go to the regatta Facebook page you
• 18:58
Speaker 13: can learn more about that. But one hundred bikes in
• 19:01
Speaker 13: our community for kids, I mean stuff like that that
• 19:03
Speaker 13: we're just going. I know, the USA Cycling is given
• 19:06
Speaker 13: away a bike raffle as well. It's just I mean,
• 19:08
Speaker 13: it's really good that this event can last longer than
• 19:11
Speaker 13: just the ten days it's in town.
• 19:13
Speaker 4: Matt Sutton, the chief of staff for the Mayor's Office
• 19:15
Speaker 4: and studio with us this morning to Dave Allen Chow
• 19:17
Speaker 4: and five aniline broad to you apartment snap Fitness with
• 19:19
Speaker 4: a wide selection of equipment including free weights, cardio machine,
• 19:22
Speaker 4: weights and more. Five great locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
• 19:26
Speaker 4: and Milton business Snap fitness dot com for more details.
• 19:29
Speaker 4: Right here we are in day four. How's it gone
• 19:31
  Speaker 4: so far?
• 19:32
Speaker 7: Really well? I mean really well.
• 19:33
Speaker 13: I mean the last few days we've got some we
• 19:35
Speaker 13: had some rain mixed in, but you know, I shure
• 19:37
Speaker 13: it's harder on the cyclist, but it actually adds a
• 19:39
Speaker 13: little bit of excitement when you watch these folks go
• 19:42
Speaker 13: as fast as they are in the rain. But I
• 19:44
Speaker 13: think that I think I heard you say it right
• 19:46
Speaker 13: before I got on the rail of the today, tomorrow
• 19:48
Speaker 13: and into the weekend.
• 19:49
  Speaker 7: That's what we've that's what we've been waiting for since
• 19:51
  Speaker 7: last year.
• 19:51
Speaker 13: We had the time trials, and there are very fun
• 19:53
Speaker 13: to watch that they're not quite the level of excitement
• 19:56
Speaker 13: is the Criterion Race, which starts tonight and tomorrow and
• 20:00
Speaker 13: then the road races. So I think tonight, you know,
• 20:03
Speaker 13: we'll get a little bit of rain out of the
• 20:04
Speaker 13: way here today early and then make good for this
• 20:06
Speaker 13: evening and tomorrow's is going to be gorgeous. So, but
• 20:09
Speaker 13: the biggest thing you know, to think about if you're
• 20:11
Speaker 13: if you are working in downtown Charleston, the streets are
• 20:15
  Speaker 13: open all day.
• 20:16
Speaker 4: Okay, hold on, okay, listen very carefully. Listen very carefully, folks.
• 20:20
Speaker 4: This is the important part, as we say in the
• 20:22
Speaker 4: business roll tape on this even though nobody rolls tape anymore.
• 20:25
Speaker 4: Uh So listen very closely to what mister Sutton is
• 20:27
  Speaker 4: going to say.
• 20:28
Speaker 13: Now, yes, okay, so uh the other than the boulevard
• 20:33
Speaker 13: which has been closed all week, the roads in downtown
• 20:35
Speaker 13: Charleston are open all day to day until right around
• 20:37
Speaker 13: five pm. And at five pm is when we start
• 20:40
Speaker 13: to set up for the Criterion Race and that that
• 20:43
Speaker 13: you know race essentially think from Court Street to Hall Street,
• 20:46
Speaker 13: from the boulevard to Lee Street. That box that's there
• 20:49
Speaker 13: is going to be shut off. You're not going to
• 20:52
Speaker 13: be able to have vehiclear traffic after five pm. So
• 20:55
Speaker 13: if you need to get out of town, you can
• 20:57
Speaker 13: get out of town out on the outskirts of that.
• 20:59
Speaker 13: But if you've got to dry through that area, or
• 21:00
Speaker 13: if you're located inside that footprint, you're going to need
• 21:03
Speaker 13: to get out before five pm today, and that is
• 21:07
Speaker 13: that is the key. And then after that that area
• 21:09
Speaker 13: again from Court to Hale, the boulevard to Lee Street,
• 21:13
Speaker 13: that box is going to be is going to be
• 21:16
Speaker 13: pretty shut down. You can get onto Capitol Street and
• 21:19
Speaker 13: use the Summer Street garage, go on the opposite way
• 21:21
Speaker 13: on Capitol Street. Go to our City of Charleston's Facebook
• 21:23
Speaker 13: page to see it. But the key to it is
• 21:26
Speaker 13: if you're inside that that footprint, getting Court to Hale,
• 21:29
Speaker 13: the Boulevard to Lee by five pm. If your car's
• 21:32
Speaker 13: in there, it's going to stay in there for the
• 21:35
Speaker 13: very It's very likely it's going to stay in there,
• 21:37
Speaker 13: So I suggest get out early and if you could
• 21:40
Speaker 13: take and at your lunchtime and maybe park on the
• 21:42
Speaker 13: periphery of that zone or something along those lines, if
• 21:44
Speaker 13: you're going to be later, that would be ideal. That's
• 21:46
Speaker 13: what I end up doing. It's what I did last year,
• 21:48
Speaker 13: is what I'll do this year. I'll just kind of
• 21:49
Speaker 13: get my car out, put it on the put it
• 21:51
Speaker 13: on the edges, just in case I need to get out,
• 21:54
Speaker 13: because that we we just if you've seen the Criterion
• 21:57
Speaker 13: race do downtown, you know the road races, we have
• 22:00
Speaker 13: some space between areas right where we can let cars through.
• 22:03
Speaker 13: Right here, it's going too fast, it's too small of
• 22:05
Speaker 13: an area. There is no way. There's hardly a way
• 22:07
Speaker 13: to let pedestrians across the street as fast as they're moving,
• 22:09
Speaker 13: but there is no way we can let vehicles. So
• 22:11
Speaker 13: today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, make sure you're out
• 22:15
Speaker 13: of that footprint Court to Halle Boulevard de Lea before
• 22:18
Speaker 13: five pm. Other than that, that's the traffic stoppage. I
• 22:21
Speaker 13: know there was some some stuff going around last yesterday
• 22:25
Speaker 13: about some traffic on the Interstate close to Clinton, and
• 22:28
Speaker 13: that didn't have anything to do with USA Cycling. There's
• 22:31
Speaker 13: no bike races out there. So it's the boulevard all
• 22:34
Speaker 13: day to day, and then by five pm tonight that
• 22:37
Speaker 13: heart of downtown. Make sure you're out of it with
• 22:40
Speaker 13: your car and make sure you're personally in it because
• 22:42
Speaker 13: it's extremely exciting. You're watching the best athletes in the
• 22:45
Speaker 13: world fly around our city.
• 22:48
  Speaker 7: It's really exciting.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: And again, this is not something that just popped up.
• 22:52
Speaker 4: We've been talking about this for months. So if you're
• 22:54
Speaker 4: one of these people, and if you work in downtown Charleston,
• 22:57
Speaker 4: you know one of two things to do. You need
• 22:59
Speaker 4: to add that area that Matt just mentioned. You've got
• 23:01
Speaker 4: to have your car out of there because once after
• 23:04
Speaker 4: five o'clock you're not going anywhere. However, what you could
• 23:08
Speaker 4: do is you could plan on staying in town, grab
• 23:12
Speaker 4: yourself some dinner, all the all the businesses are open
• 23:15
Speaker 4: that you can grab yourself dinner, dinner, drink, go shopping
• 23:19
Speaker 4: at one of the places or whatever, and just kind
• 23:20
Speaker 4: of hang out till it's over what time approximately, and
• 23:24
Speaker 4: I know it's approximately what time approximately? Will will it
• 23:27
Speaker 4: be over this evening? Just give me a ballpark, I
• 23:29
Speaker 4: would say midnight. By midnight, I'd say, okay, tonight's the
• 23:32
Speaker 4: longest night there. There are a lot of races that
• 23:34
Speaker 4: occur tonight, and I think it's the juniors in the
• 23:38
Speaker 4: U twenty three, So I think four races, men's juniors,
• 23:41
  Speaker 4: women's juniors, Men's U twenty three, women's U twenty three
• 23:44
Speaker 4: all race tonight. So it's gonna last till eleven thirty
• 23:47
Speaker 4: or twelve, and then it'll take us a little bit
• 23:48
Speaker 4: of time to put the roads back.
• 23:50
Speaker 13: You'll be fine when you come in the morning. It
• 23:52
Speaker 13: won't be anything other than the boulevard which has been
• 23:53
Speaker 13: shut down since Saturday. But there will be nothing downtown
• 23:58
Speaker 13: when you come in in the morning, but tomorrow or
• 24:00
Speaker 13: you're gonna rent and repeat with the exact name, exact
• 24:02
Speaker 13: same thing, course, the exact same course.
• 24:04
Speaker 4: And again it is a minor inconvenience. And again, I'm
• 24:09
Speaker 4: a person that accesses downtown Charleston five sometimes six or
• 24:12
Speaker 4: seven days a week. You know, I'm right there with you.
• 24:15
Speaker 4: But for what this brings Matt to Charleston, the number
• 24:20
Speaker 4: of people, the number of eyes that are on Charleston,
• 24:22
Speaker 4: and it's not just about the bike event. That's the
• 24:24
Speaker 4: thing that I think sometimes people fail to realize. This
• 24:27
Speaker 4: puts Charleston on an international and I literally mean an
• 24:30
Speaker 4: international stage, and people that are into events that have
• 24:35
Speaker 4: absolutely nothing to do with biking are looking at Charleston
• 24:38
Speaker 4: right now. They're looking at Charleston and the surrounding areas.
• 24:40
Speaker 4: They're saying, well, we saw this event and how the
• 24:44
Speaker 4: community truly embraced this event, and we'd like to have
• 24:50
Speaker 4: our event there and it could be totally unrelated to biking. Yeah,
• 24:53
Speaker 4: it will. It will be unre related to biking.
• 24:55
Speaker 13: The next event we get because of the relationship we
• 24:57
Speaker 13: have with USA Cycling and how our community came together
• 25:00
Speaker 13: to make it happen, will not be related to cycling.
• 25:03
Speaker 13: It's going to be something completely different. The event that
• 25:05
Speaker 13: led to USA Cycling was USA Junior Table Tennis that
• 25:08
Speaker 13: didn't have anything to do with cycling, but that relationship
• 25:11
Speaker 13: and how the staff at the CVB, the staff at
• 25:14
Speaker 13: the city, the staff the Coliseum Convention Center, how they
• 25:17
Speaker 13: built that relationship. And it's the small things I mean,
• 25:20
Speaker 13: and I won't get into it, but I can remember
• 25:22
Speaker 13: vividly the moment where we kind of knew we were
• 25:25
Speaker 13: people within the USA You Table Tennis, knew they were
• 25:28
Speaker 13: in a different place when they had to have some
• 25:30
Speaker 13: kind of issue with a bank, and you know, it
• 25:33
Speaker 13: was eight o'clock at night and the mayor was on
• 25:34
Speaker 13: the phone with four different bankers trying to help them
• 25:36
Speaker 13: figure out what they needed to do. You don't get
• 25:38
Speaker 13: that in other cities. I mean, you hardly can get
• 25:40
Speaker 13: a mayor to show up. But our mayor is up there,
• 25:43
Speaker 13: you know, eight o'clock at night, not only there to
• 25:44
Speaker 13: hand out medals, but she's on the phone with you know,
• 25:46
Speaker 13: community people to try to help with a banking issue.
• 25:50
Speaker 13: And you know we have she's out there handing out
• 25:52
Speaker 13: medal as we have for the USA Cycling folks. And
• 25:56
Speaker 13: you know, a counsel woman, Katelyn Cook, was out there
• 25:58
Speaker 13: handing out medals. You don't get that kind of participation
• 26:01
Speaker 13: in most cities, uh throughout the entire country when they
• 26:05
Speaker 13: go to do these events. So just seeing that stuff
• 26:07
Speaker 13: and seeing the excitement, I've said it one hundred times.
• 26:10
Speaker 13: I think I've said it this week. We got USA Cycling. Yes,
• 26:13
Speaker 13: because of the work that Tim Brady and his team did,
• 26:16
Speaker 13: and the and the work the mayor did with the
• 26:18
Speaker 13: direct meetings with the USA Cycling folks. We got it
• 26:20
Speaker 13: because when we went to pitch the meeting. We had
• 26:22
Speaker 13: a group of seven or eight community members who were
• 26:24
  Speaker 13: our committee.
• 26:25
Speaker 4: And no other city had that.
• 26:26
Speaker 7: And then we just we had it before we even
• 26:28
Speaker 7: knew what it was.
• 26:28
Speaker 13: We just had people in our community said yeah, we
• 26:30
Speaker 13: want this, and they were just volunteers, and that's how
• 26:32
Speaker 13: you get these events. And yeah, it is, it is.
• 26:36
Speaker 13: I understand it is a minor inconvenience. There are there
• 26:38
Speaker 13: are ways around. I mean, it's not you're not deadlocked.
• 26:41
Speaker 13: You can get around the race of the traffic. But
• 26:45
Speaker 13: really the most important part is is what I would
• 26:46
Speaker 13: say is if you're if you are inconvenienced by the traffic,
• 26:50
Speaker 13: you know, park park outside the race and come in
• 26:53
Speaker 13: and see what's what, what's going on, and you'll get
• 26:55
Speaker 13: very excited about it really quick and realize that to
• 26:58
Speaker 13: your point, it is a very small mind inconvenience in
• 27:01
Speaker 13: order to have something that is not only true economic
• 27:04
Speaker 13: development for all of our restaurants and bars and shops,
• 27:07
Speaker 13: but really puts Charleston on a map on a scale
• 27:10
Speaker 13: that we can't replicate any other way.
• 27:12

• 27:28
Speaker 4: in net. Because what you don't know can hurts you.
• 27:30
Speaker 4: Lots of folks will be coming into town for other things, Matt,
• 27:33
Speaker 4: including high school graduations. They've already gotten under waves of
• 27:36
Speaker 4: these people that are going to graduations at the coliseum
• 27:38
Speaker 4: and convention Center. They have anything to be concerned about.
• 27:41
Speaker 13: No, I would I mean, I would say, if if
• 27:43
Speaker 13: you're going to come to the coloseumic Convention Center, I would,
• 27:46
Speaker 13: you know, utilize the the I wouldn't come through like
• 27:50
Speaker 13: Greenbrier Street and try to come through downtown or Leonsolomon
• 27:52
Speaker 13: come through downtown. I'd get off on the you know,
• 27:55
Speaker 13: the sort of the west side exits that we have,
• 27:57
Speaker 13: whether it's Westmoreland or Virginia Street, get off over them,
• 28:00
Speaker 13: and you're just going to go right into the parking
• 28:02
Speaker 13: garages to relate to the coliseum at convention Center, and
• 28:04
Speaker 13: you'll be just fine.
• 28:05
Speaker 7: You won't see any of it.
• 28:06
Speaker 4: What about getting out when it's over.
• 28:08
Speaker 7: I do the same thing. I do the same thing.
• 28:09
Speaker 13: I would just sort of circle around the Coliseum Convention Center,
• 28:11
Speaker 13: get back on the interstate and move. Driving through downtown
• 28:15
Speaker 13: after five pm is not really going to be possible.
• 28:18
Speaker 13: You could go around and get onto the other side
• 28:21
Speaker 13: and go into the Washington Street area and be okay,
• 28:23
Speaker 13: But I would be very cautious about trying to drive
• 28:26
Speaker 13: through downtown that might maybe have it. But and you
• 28:29
  Speaker 13: know a lot of folks I know. I believe GW's
• 28:31
Speaker 13: graduations today. I think it's at one, so I think
• 28:33
Speaker 13: they'll be fine. Stay off the boulevard. But other than that,
• 28:36
Speaker 13: I think if you can circle around the interstates, that's
• 28:39
Speaker 13: where you'll be the safest after five pm.
• 28:41
Speaker 7: Before five pm, you'll be fine.
• 28:43
Speaker 4: And of course Live on the Levee is back tomorrow evening.
• 28:46
Speaker 4: Jim Strawn's going to join us to talk about that.
• 28:48
Speaker 4: It's a kickoff of Live on the Levee.
• 28:49
Speaker 13: Yeah, that's it's a tonight starts an extremely fun weekend
• 28:53
Speaker 13: in Charleston. So I think starting at four pm, then
• 28:55
Speaker 13: today we'll see music in city center. It's like Paul
• 29:00
Speaker 13: so You'll have DJs and live music throughout the entire evening.
• 29:02
Speaker 13: It stretches all night. That'll be a lot of fun.
• 29:05
Speaker 13: And then tomorrow, I think we kick off at four
• 29:07
Speaker 13: pm with a with a band in the city center
• 29:10
Speaker 13: and then we come at five pm, go down to
• 29:11
Speaker 13: the levee Well, Reverend Horton Heat will be there and
• 29:15
Speaker 13: then they start. They stop about six thirty and then
• 29:19
Speaker 13: the bike races start. We got music back in the
• 29:21
Speaker 13: park again, different watch zones, and then that just continues
• 29:23
Speaker 13: throughout the weekend. We've got the Vandelia going over to
• 29:26
Speaker 13: Capitol Complex as well. You've got the Bridge Road shops
• 29:29
Speaker 13: that are having their watch party. You've got Wartz Avenue.
• 29:31
Speaker 13: I know Minny Leonard and her folks have already posted
• 29:33
Speaker 13: about what they're doing over there. It's all throughout town
• 29:36
Speaker 13: and it's just going to be an exciting weekend and
• 29:38
Speaker 13: it's something that we're really we're really looking forward to.
• 29:41
Speaker 13: And I think that you know, last year, we really
• 29:44
Speaker 13: got a good sense of what the races are, and
• 29:45
Speaker 13: this year, I think we're gonna get a good sense
• 29:47
Speaker 13: of how we can have a good time with it
• 29:49
Speaker 13: as well and really enjoy not only the athletes, but
• 29:53
Speaker 13: our entire community. And it looks like we're gonna get good,
• 29:55
Speaker 13: good weather to participate with.
• 29:56
Speaker 4: And of course I do want to mention I think
• 29:58
Speaker 4: the courthouse is going to close early, yes today.
• 30:02
  Speaker 9: Uh.
• 30:03
Speaker 4: And we had a text here that said, I think
• 30:04
Speaker 4: the city and county should extend the holiday and let
• 30:07
Speaker 4: workers have the day off on Friday. That will help
• 30:09
Speaker 4: all the parties and the traffic problems.
• 30:12
  Speaker 7: I mean, I don't I don't look to see that happen.
• 30:14
Speaker 13: I mean I appreciate the information, but you know, we've
• 30:16
Speaker 13: got the holiday on Monday, but.
• 30:18
Speaker 7: You got a lot of work to do.
• 30:19
Speaker 4: You an all hands on day.
• 30:21
Speaker 7: We got a lot of work. We got a lot
• 30:22
Speaker 7: of work to do.
• 30:23
  Speaker 6: And uh.
• 30:24
Speaker 13: And we're fortunate enough to have a dedicated staff that
• 30:26
Speaker 13: that really see the value of these events. I mean
• 30:28
Speaker 13: it's not always easy to get people to see it.
• 30:31
Speaker 13: You know, sometimes when you're when you're working a post
• 30:34
Speaker 13: or you're setting up something, you might not see it.
• 30:36
Speaker 13: But a lot of our workers hang around and they
• 30:38
Speaker 13: get to see the fund they get to participate, and
• 30:41
  Speaker 13: the the.
• 30:42
Speaker 7: Value that our team brings.
• 30:44
Speaker 13: Again, I keep harping back to how we got this
• 30:46
Speaker 13: event and how we've kept it and while we'll get
• 30:48
Speaker 13: another events from it. You know, when USA Cycling was
• 30:51
Speaker 13: in other cities, they have a staff of people who
• 30:53
Speaker 13: set up the you know, the course and set up
• 30:55
Speaker 13: the railings and all that. When they came here last year,
• 30:59
Speaker 13: you know, when they get ready to set up, well
• 31:00
Speaker 13: we have we have a team of city staff just
• 31:02
Speaker 13: sitting right there with them, and they're like, what are
• 31:03
Speaker 13: you all doing? Well, we're here to set up. And
• 31:05
Speaker 13: they hadn't had that experience elsewhere. They were on their
• 31:07
Speaker 13: own to do it, but we had. They had our
• 31:08
Speaker 13: folks who were sitting there eager and ready to help
• 31:10
Speaker 13: set up. And this year, same thing, and it's just
• 31:12
Speaker 13: been it's been a great experience for everybody. Uh And
• 31:14
Speaker 13: it really kicks into gear tonight and throughout the entire weekend.
• 31:18
Speaker 13: This is certainly a Memorial Day weekend to be in Charleston.
• 31:22
Speaker 13: Don't head out of town. This is one We're gonna
• 31:23
Speaker 13: have a lot of fun.
• 31:24
Speaker 4: And tonight the Dirty Birds are at home tonight as well.
• 31:28
Speaker 4: They're going to hit the road for the weekend. But
• 31:30
Speaker 4: of course they're a sponsor at the show. Tonight is
• 31:32
Speaker 4: Jurassic Park Night sponsored by United Plus. It's Thursday Thursday
• 31:35
Speaker 4: one dollar beers and waters starting at five thirty. You
• 31:37
Speaker 4: can visit Dirty Birds Baseball dot com or the social
• 31:39
Speaker 4: media for more information. Also, we've got the track and
• 31:43
Speaker 4: Field Championships going on over it lately. Yeah.
• 31:45
Speaker 13: Yeah, we don't do one thing at a time. Yeah
• 31:47
Speaker 13: we don't do one thing well and nor should we.
• 31:50
Speaker 13: But yeah, you have the track and Field Championships. Those
• 31:52
Speaker 13: folks have been really communicated with about the traffic that'll
• 31:55
Speaker 13: be over that way, and that's really using utilizing the
• 31:58
Speaker 13: Green Broish Street exit to get the late field and
• 32:02
Speaker 13: really being able to keep the areas as separate as
• 32:07
  Speaker 13: we can.
• 32:07
Speaker 7: But track is one of the.
• 32:09
Speaker 13: Biggest high school postseason events that occurs throughout the entire state.
• 32:13
Speaker 13: I mean, I think that, you know, we think about basketball,
• 32:15
Speaker 13: we think about football, but track go over that way.
• 32:18
Speaker 7: It is packed with a lot.
• 32:19
Speaker 13: Of families, a lot of kids do out from our
• 32:22
Speaker 13: entire state, and it really is a good economic boom
• 32:24
Speaker 13: for our city. But most importantly, again, it's really a
• 32:27
Speaker 13: great experience for the kids and families and we really
• 32:29
Speaker 13: like this. I mean I think that you know, last
• 32:31
Speaker 13: year when we had the state High school Cheerleading Championship,
• 32:33
Speaker 13: the state high School Fooba Championships going on at the
• 32:36
Speaker 13: same time as we had the Light to Night and
• 32:39
Speaker 13: student athletes and parents were able to participate in that,
• 32:41
Speaker 13: and they were able to come down downtown to Hollaw
• 32:43
Speaker 13: Jolly Brawley and have that. That just adds to the
• 32:46
Speaker 13: experience of these of these families and kids that come
• 32:48
Speaker 13: to Charleston. So not only this kid's going to get
• 32:50
Speaker 13: to race at extremely high levels of their own athletic abilities,
• 32:53
Speaker 13: but then they're going to get to come down down
• 32:55
Speaker 13: and watch the world class athletes do the cycling race
• 32:57
Speaker 13: throughout the entire city and it just adds to everything.
• 33:00
Speaker 13: I mean, we you know, every now and then people
• 33:02
Speaker 13: will say, well, you know, I want to have my
• 33:03
Speaker 13: I want to have my event by myself on its
• 33:05
Speaker 13: own weekend. That that doesn't really work anymore. We really
• 33:08
Speaker 13: want to have multiple things going on at one time
• 33:11
Speaker 13: that we can make sure that show showcase our entire city.
• 33:15
  Speaker 13: And I think that's that's really a model that we've
• 33:17
Speaker 13: seen over the last couple of years that we really
• 33:20
Speaker 13: enjoy and like it is a lot of work, but
• 33:22
Speaker 13: it just makes our city shane and we're really excited
• 33:24
  Speaker 13: about it.
• 33:25
Speaker 4: Let me finish this with the texts says to Dave,
• 33:27
Speaker 4: I'm very happy for my hometown with the success the
• 33:29
Speaker 4: bike thing. Blah blah blah. This is tongue in cheek.
• 33:33
Speaker 4: Just take a tiny bit of offense with Matt Sutton's
• 33:35
Speaker 4: comment about the cycling people being the best athletes in
• 33:37
Speaker 4: the world. Everybody knows the best athletes in the world are,
• 33:39
Speaker 4: in fact, hockey players. Just ask Have Matt ask his.
• 33:43
Speaker 13: Boss, Well, I will, and I know what she's going
• 33:47
Speaker 13: to say. She's going to say, it's hockey players. I mean,
• 33:49
Speaker 13: you know, I'm here, I watched the cycling people go around.
• 33:52
  Speaker 7: I'll do that.
• 33:53
Speaker 13: I believe that hockey players are amazing athletes. They're all
• 33:57
Speaker 13: better than I am, so they're nothing.
• 33:58
Speaker 7: Not in sake. But we'd also throw professional wrestlers into
• 34:01
  Speaker 7: that too.
• 34:01
Speaker 4: Good. Yeah, professional wrestlers not sports entertainers. There's a big difference.
• 34:05
Speaker 7: Okay, well, we're supposed to build those sports entertainers.
• 34:07
Speaker 4: We'll have that. No, we'll have that argument ay day
• 34:11
Speaker 4: before I run real quick because I know you got
• 34:13
  Speaker 4: other stuff.
• 34:13
Speaker 13: So I don't do this very often, but I want
• 34:15
Speaker 13: to give a birthday shout out to my good friend
• 34:16
Speaker 13: Don Wilson. Don is you know, the owner Capitalin Insurance group.
• 34:20
Speaker 13: He's been in Charleston his entire life. Don and I
• 34:22
Speaker 13: grew up together, and it is, quite frankly the person
• 34:24
Speaker 13: I lean on the most, both personally and professionally. So
• 34:27
Speaker 13: I just want to give a shout out to Don
• 34:28
Speaker 13: on his birthday today.
• 34:29
Speaker 4: Absolutely, and I'm end of the show too.
• 34:31
Speaker 13: Yeah, And you know, there's there's hardly anything you can
• 34:33
Speaker 13: do to boost his ego, but having a shout out
• 34:35
Speaker 13: on the radio which would certainly help. He's a very
• 34:37
Speaker 13: humble individual and we certainly appreciate all he does for Charleston,
• 34:40
Speaker 13: all he's done for me personally.
• 34:41
Speaker 4: All right, all right, A good way to leave it.
• 34:43
Speaker 4: We got to go, Matt, appreciate you being here. We'll
• 34:45
Speaker 4: probably talk to you tomorrow, or we have talked to
• 34:47
Speaker 4: somebody tomorrow on the show to see what's going on tomorrow.
• 34:50
Speaker 7: I absolutely all right.
• 34:51

  Speaker 7: A year?
• 37:43
  Speaker 9: In what?
• 37:43
Speaker 12: May fifteenth was exactly a year?
• 37:45
Speaker 4: All right, how's the recovery going? You know?
• 37:47
Speaker 12: It's I'm just blessed. I'm lessed to be able to
• 37:49
  Speaker 12: walk and stand. That I can't run, I can't jump,
• 37:51
Speaker 12: but I still try to go to the gym and
• 37:53
Speaker 12: do what I can. I have to get a stimulator

Speaker 12: doing my thing and you know it's but it's real.
• 38:06
Speaker 12: The struggle is still really but I'm not out of

• 38:08
Speaker 4: Well you're here. Well yeah, no pun intended, but but
• 38:12

Speaker 12: You know, it's just yesterday someone said, we have a
• 38:18
Speaker 12: new term. It's called when you hit your golf ball
• 38:21
Speaker 12: in the weaves. Don't go in there. You'll get scaffed.
• 38:24
  Speaker 4: You get scaffed.
• 38:25
Speaker 12: So someone told me that yesterday, said, I educated a
• 38:27
Speaker 12: lot of people about staying out of the weeds.
• 38:29
  Speaker 7: Be careful.
• 38:29
Speaker 12: The golf ball's not worth it when you're out cutting
• 38:31
Speaker 12: the grass and lawn.
• 38:32
Speaker 4: Just watch what you do.
• 38:33
Speaker 12: So anything, I brought a lot of attention to it.
• 38:34
Speaker 4: Now, you being the master marketer, I'm seeing some t
• 38:37
Speaker 4: shirts there scaffed scaffed you got, don't get scaffed. Don't
• 38:41
Speaker 4: get a scaffed. Speaking of marketing, we know you from
• 38:44
Speaker 4: of course HD media, we know you. And for the
• 38:47
Speaker 4: political realm, now we know you as I don't know
• 38:51
Speaker 4: the next Colonel Sanders of Charleston taking over a legendary place.
• 38:57
  Speaker 4: Phasio is talk.
• 38:58
Speaker 12: About that, you know what, just saving a legacy establishment
• 39:01
Speaker 12: like Phaseos. I couldn't imagine Charleston without it. For over
• 39:04
Speaker 12: seventy five years, nineteen forty nine, that family has produced
• 39:07
Speaker 12: some delicious and fantastic food, some great times and memories
• 39:11
Speaker 12: for everyone. You know, it's no secret Danny and Marcia
• 39:14
Speaker 12: they've been trying to maybe you know, get towards retirement
• 39:18
Speaker 12: or ease out, but they weren't Russian to do it.
• 39:21
Speaker 12: They wanted to find They want to leave it in
• 39:22
  Speaker 12: good hands.
• 39:23
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 39:23
Speaker 12: They talked to de All with this two years ago.
• 39:25
Speaker 12: This has been about two years in the making, and
• 39:27
Speaker 12: they wanted to be the right fit. And so we
• 39:28
Speaker 12: started talking about a year ago and we just talked
• 39:30
Speaker 12: to more and I said, well know when you start
• 39:31
Speaker 12: getting serious, and we finally came to an agreement that
• 39:35
Speaker 12: I couldn't do this without my partner, Vicente. Vicente Cruz,
• 39:38
Speaker 12: who you know owns and operates the Hell House. He's
• 39:40
Speaker 12: got very established on the town. He's an old outback operator.
• 39:43
Speaker 12: He knows the restaurant business. I might know the business
• 39:46
Speaker 12: side and the marketing side, but he is the restaurant
• 39:48
  Speaker 12: here of town.
• 39:48
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 39:49
Speaker 12: He and Chef Paul right up there to one of
• 39:50
Speaker 12: the best in the town. You got Mike Trisha, you
• 39:52
Speaker 12: got everybody in town. We had some great food town
• 39:54
Speaker 12: and I can't imagine not having Phaseios in town. So
• 39:57
Speaker 12: we worked out a deal. Everyone says this million dollar questions.
• 40:00
Speaker 12: You keep everything the same, you know, you get all
• 40:02
Speaker 12: the recipes. It's like I call it the name, image
• 40:04
Speaker 12: and likeness. We get everything, you know, Phaseos, the name,
• 40:07
Speaker 12: the brand, the food, the recipes, the great staff, the employees.
• 40:12
Speaker 12: We want to keep everything, say, and even the day corp.
• 40:14
Speaker 4: The day corps. You're just joking about it.
• 40:15
Speaker 12: That's what makes it, man, That's what makes it the
• 40:17
Speaker 12: old old field, old Italian world field.
• 40:19
Speaker 4: Yeah. And I'll give a big shout out to Steven Keith,
• 40:21
Speaker 4: the food guy, who did an excellent article in the
• 40:22
Speaker 4: Gauze that mail about it yesterday talking about the history
• 40:26
Speaker 4: of the place and how you know, the folks involved
• 40:29
Speaker 4: wanted to retire, but they didn't want to just turn
• 40:31
Speaker 4: it over to anyone, and they're going to be sticking
• 40:34
Speaker 4: around a little bit as kind of quality control, I guess, right,
• 40:37
Speaker 4: just to make sure that. I mean, because you can't
• 40:39
Speaker 4: just come over and take it over a legendary place
• 40:41
Speaker 4: like that. I mean you got to have somebody kind
• 40:43
Speaker 4: of in there and say, Okay, yes you're doing Not
• 40:45
Speaker 4: that said they can't do the job. I don't mean that,
• 40:47
Speaker 4: but I'm just saying there's certain ways of doing things.
• 40:49
Speaker 12: Shout out to Danny Mark. I mean, Danny is there
• 40:53
Speaker 12: when the start of the morning to the end of
• 40:54
Speaker 12: the night, and you know the knowledge capital that he
• 40:57
Speaker 12: has When I say old school who Italian restaurant, guess
• 40:59
Speaker 12: we're the recipe throwing his head. Not a lot of
• 41:02
Speaker 12: them were wrote down, so I mean you got to
• 41:03
Speaker 12: he's been We've been writing them down, we've been watching them,
• 41:05
Speaker 12: we've been taking pictures, we've been trying to get everything
• 41:07
Speaker 12: the same, because it's all in his head. You know,
• 41:09
Speaker 12: his cup may not be the same as a measuring cup,
• 41:11
Speaker 12: or a little pinch of this, pinch of that. Old
• 41:13
Speaker 12: schools like your grandma's, like your grandma He said, this
• 41:15
Speaker 12: is my grandmother's recipe, This was my mom's recipe. This
• 41:17
Speaker 12: was this, and he said, so those recipes are passed down,
• 41:19
Speaker 12: so we have been writing them down. He's sticking around
• 41:21
Speaker 12: for a few weeks. Marsha's been there. Marsha kind of runs.
• 41:23
Speaker 12: His wife runs in front of the house and the
• 41:24
Speaker 12: staffing and the deliveries and the area the deliveries to
• 41:27
Speaker 12: take out and the reservations. But he is in the
• 41:29
Speaker 12: back of the house from ordering the food to preparait
• 41:31
Speaker 12: But here's the best part.
• 41:31
Speaker 4: This is what I learned.
• 41:32
Speaker 12: You could go there for three months in a row
• 41:34
Speaker 12: and get something different every night. There's so many different choices.
• 41:37
Speaker 12: I was one of those that kind of got stuck
• 41:38
Speaker 12: in my way. I was like, you know, black and
• 41:40
Speaker 12: filet on the best steaks in town, or a chicken
• 41:43
Speaker 12: palm or eggplant parm or even the black and grouper.
• 41:45
Speaker 12: Those are my four go to things. I've seen entrees
• 41:47
Speaker 12: I've never even seen before. I didn't even know they existed.
• 41:49
Speaker 12: But here's the best part. Everything is fresh and homemade.
• 41:53
Speaker 12: I say everything everything. Stephen Keith pointed that out. I mean,
• 41:57
Speaker 12: the dressings are made from scratch. The sauces, his own
• 42:00
Speaker 12: secret sauce, his his his black and seasoning. Everything is
• 42:03
Speaker 12: made from scratch everything. I mean even he even grinds
• 42:05
Speaker 12: his own coffee beans. Yeah, I mean it's I did
• 42:08
Speaker 12: not know that until I read Stevens some people. So
• 42:10
Speaker 12: everything that's what makes this play special and unique. And
• 42:13
Speaker 12: you know what people have been coming, they've been to
• 42:14
Speaker 12: reach out to. The celebration has been great. That the
• 42:16
Speaker 12: legacy lives on, and that's all we want to do. Well,
• 42:18
Speaker 12: you know, we just want to hopefully, you know, feel
• 42:20
Speaker 12: it's hard to fill those those shoes in the family home,
• 42:22
Speaker 12: but we're going to carry on the traditions, keep everything
• 42:24
Speaker 12: the same, add a little bit of our old touch
• 42:26
  Speaker 12: and that there.
• 42:27
  Speaker 9: You know.
• 42:27
Speaker 12: Might we might mix the hours.
• 42:28
Speaker 4: Up a little bit.
• 42:29
Speaker 12: We might open up a little earlier, say open a
• 42:30
Speaker 12: little late, but you know, don't worry about the food quality.
• 42:33
Speaker 12: We're going to get it there and Danny's not going
• 42:34
Speaker 12: to leave until it's right.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: Trust me, talking to Doug Scaff, We're going to take
• 42:38
Speaker 4: a break because I want to talk about some other things,
• 42:40
Speaker 4: mister Scaff, other than just a restaurant business. Although I
• 42:42
Speaker 4: could talk about that all day. You know, you know me,
• 42:44
Speaker 4: I'm a food guy that's making you hungry. Yeah, yeah,
• 42:47
Speaker 4: nine o'clock in the morning. I'm sitting there thinking an
• 42:48
Speaker 4: egg plant parm I'm in. I'm my favorite the bill
• 42:51
Speaker 4: parm too. The bill is great. Yeah, everything everything there,
• 42:54
Speaker 4: and I'm glad to know that it's going to continue.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: And you've got some other things that are planned that
• 42:57
Speaker 4: you'll be telling us about. Let me ask you this though,
• 42:58
Speaker 4: before we go to break as the takeover already happened,
• 43:01
Speaker 4: Are you folks like in charge now?
• 43:03
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 43:03
  Speaker 4: So we closed.
• 43:04
Speaker 12: We closed on the May twelfth, last Monday, so we
• 43:06
Speaker 12: have one full week of operations. So they're going to
• 43:08
Speaker 12: stay on board for three to four weeks with the
• 43:09
Speaker 12: transition and teach us and show us the ropes. And
• 43:11
Speaker 12: they're there in the kitchen. He's there in the kitchen,
• 43:13
Speaker 12: rolling up his sleeves, teaching Vicente. And we have Eric,
• 43:15
Speaker 12: you know, he's been great as our manager over there,
• 43:18
Speaker 12: and Christy Vicenti's wife helping us get everything on the plane.
• 43:21
Speaker 12: So we took over Fishley. So we're one week and
• 43:24
Speaker 12: a couple of days in. This is our second full
• 43:25
Speaker 12: week on the books. Yes, it's over. It's our name
• 43:28
Speaker 12: and I can't wait to tell you about the group
• 43:29
Speaker 12: we put together to make this happen, all.

• 46:27
Speaker 4: about reading this on the air, but I asked you
• 46:29
Speaker 4: in the break and you said, yeah, go ahead. So Texas,
• 46:31
Speaker 4: I've seen on social media that Phasio's is a big,
• 46:33
Speaker 4: outspoken Trump lover restaurant. Seems weird. Scaff would take it over.
• 46:37
Speaker 4: Are they planning to keep the same outspoken Trump lover vibe?
• 46:41
Speaker 4: Politics is even in your palm. This is where we
• 46:44
  Speaker 4: are now.
• 46:45
Speaker 12: But go ahead, Hey, listen. I love politics more than anybody,
• 46:47
Speaker 12: and I'm all in. But when it comes to the
• 46:48
Speaker 12: restaurant business, listen, we check your politics at the door. No,
• 46:52
Speaker 12: everyone is welcome there. They're not going to have that
• 46:54
Speaker 12: same vibe. There was a frame picture of Donald Trump
• 46:56
Speaker 12: and it got a lot of attention on social media.
• 46:58
Speaker 12: I think it was in an autograph picture they god,
• 47:00
Speaker 12: and there was a little, you know, confrontation about that
• 47:03
Speaker 12: and who's your president and who do you support? And
• 47:06
Speaker 12: that's check that at the door. There's no place in
• 47:09
Speaker 12: restaurant because it's come and eat, enjoy a great night.
• 47:11
Speaker 12: I don't care what political persuasion you are, or who's
• 47:13
Speaker 12: who you voted for for president or who you didn't
• 47:16
Speaker 12: vote for. Listen, we just want to cook great food,
• 47:18
Speaker 12: keep a legacy restaurant going, bring people together, have a
• 47:21
Speaker 12: great time and keep a tradition of Charleston alive. You know,
• 47:24
Speaker 12: people say, hey, where are there to go? What's give
• 47:26
Speaker 12: me a good local place? Phasos is one of the
• 47:27
Speaker 12: top three places they mentioned for a long for a
• 47:30
Speaker 12: long time, for seventy five years.
• 47:31
Speaker 4: You put together a group you mentioned. But there's other people.
• 47:34
Speaker 12: Here talking about so listen. When we're talking to Danny Faser,
• 47:37
Speaker 12: he goes. Listen, said Danny, I don't know about this,
• 47:39
Speaker 12: you know, he said, But guess what happened When he's
• 47:40
Speaker 12: talked about selling the place. Everyone just said, hey, we
• 47:43
Speaker 12: can't let this go. We can't let Phaseias goes. Even
• 47:45
Speaker 12: May your good one said, you know, Phaseias was one
• 47:46
Speaker 12: of my one of my favorite restaurants in town. We
• 47:48
Speaker 12: got to do something. So I put together a little
• 47:50
Speaker 12: investment group of shareholders who could buy some shares into
• 47:52
Speaker 12: the restaurant that help save it, you know, and put
• 47:54
Speaker 12: Vicente is the key to this, because he's the restaurant here.
• 47:56
Speaker 12: He's got the background. But we put a group of
• 47:58
Speaker 12: just Phaseio lovers together, Charleston, people that love Charleston and
• 48:01
Speaker 12: love it as a destination. People who've celebrated anniversaries and
• 48:04
Speaker 12: birthdays and eat there. I've got regulars that eat there
• 48:06
Speaker 12: every week. They have a standing reservation at six thirty
• 48:09
Speaker 12: pm every Saturday. And they just want to be a
• 48:11
Speaker 12: part of this, and so maybe they don't have you know,
• 48:13
Speaker 12: they aren't gonna go out and start their own restaurants
• 48:15
Speaker 12: to day, but they get to be a part of something.
• 48:16
Speaker 12: We're gonna have a wine tasting today with some of
• 48:18
Speaker 12: the owners. We're gonna come together. We're gonna figure out
• 48:20
Speaker 12: what wines we want to offer on the menu and
• 48:21
Speaker 12: add a little bit more to our to our menu
• 48:23
Speaker 12: there and just gonna have fun with it. And I
• 48:25
Speaker 12: think it's good to have people involved. That's how many
• 48:27
Speaker 12: people just like just look at Charleston Azet Mail. You
• 48:29
Speaker 12: know it was up for sale. We have a group
• 48:30
Speaker 12: of investors came together to help save the Gazette Mail. Well,
• 48:33
Speaker 12: we save this restaurant. It's going to be here for
• 48:35
Speaker 12: years to come. And it was great to see a group.
• 48:37
Speaker 12: And does the name the name I think you're gonna
• 48:39
Speaker 12: like the name, Dave. The name of the holding company
• 48:40
  Speaker 12: is Goodfellas.
• 48:41
Speaker 4: Good Fellows. W ll love it, absolutely love it, absolutely
• 48:45
Speaker 4: love it. All right, let's quickly touch on politics for
• 48:47
Speaker 4: a moment, because you can't talk about it in the restaurant.
• 48:50
Speaker 4: You know, I haven't had you legislature wrapped up. You
• 48:52
Speaker 4: keep it close to ony on what was going on.
• 48:53
Speaker 7: Of course, of course they do.
• 48:54
Speaker 12: Yeah, it's it's I get to see all these guys
• 48:56
Speaker 12: up there covering the legislature. It was an interest session,
• 49:00
Speaker 12: you know, I wish more was accomplished, like everybody else.
• 49:04
Speaker 12: You know, it's one of those like boxing matches. It
• 49:05
Speaker 12: goes fifteen rounds and by the time you get to
• 49:07
Speaker 12: the end, people finally feel they fill each other out
• 49:09
Speaker 12: and then it's over. The first couple of weeks there
• 49:11
Speaker 12: were some knockout punches back and forth. You know, you
• 49:13
Speaker 12: had people on the Governor's side, you had the House
• 49:15
Speaker 12: side and the Senate side. It seems like they couldn't
• 49:17
Speaker 12: come together. And it's amazing when you have all three parties,
• 49:19
Speaker 12: you know, in control of Legjedger, you thought maybe you
• 49:22
Speaker 12: expected more mm hmm, but that's what happened when you
• 49:24
Speaker 12: had over you over over half the legislature had turned
• 49:27
Speaker 12: over in the last couple of years, So when you
• 49:29
Speaker 12: have all these new people in there, they'd all come
• 49:30
Speaker 12: in there with fresh new ideas and they're learning their
• 49:32
Speaker 12: way around. And then they realized you got to work together.
• 49:34
Speaker 12: At the end of the day when the session's over shoot,
• 49:37
Speaker 12: we should have worked together more, We should have compromised,
• 49:39
Speaker 12: we should have built relationships. And so now I think
• 49:41
Speaker 12: you'll have a better session next time.
• 49:42
Speaker 4: Well, and of course we've got special sessions coming up,
• 49:45
Speaker 4: and you remember those from your days of the legislature.
• 49:47
Speaker 4: What those were like?
• 49:47
Speaker 12: Special sessions. You know, they can be good and bad.
• 49:49
Speaker 12: You know, a lot of times they're topical. The governor
• 49:51
Speaker 12: sets the agenda and you're focused, and you're in for
• 49:53
Speaker 12: three days, you know, three, four or five days, and
• 49:55
Speaker 12: you're focused on the agenda item at hand. There's a
• 49:58
Speaker 12: lot of things this state and needs that we got
• 49:59
Speaker 12: to quick kick in the down the road on some
• 50:00
Speaker 12: of those big ticket items. They're they're hard to solve.
• 50:03
Speaker 4: There's no foster care.
• 50:05
Speaker 12: I mean, we've got to address these issues now, and
• 50:09
Speaker 12: it's just gonna get more expensive we keep picking it
• 50:11
Speaker 12: down the road, that's gonna get bigger and bigger problem.
• 50:13
Speaker 12: So we just gotta we just gotta suck it up
• 50:15
Speaker 12: and do it now and come together in a room
• 50:17
Speaker 12: and lock and lock the door and everybody figure this out.
• 50:19
Speaker 12: Come on, we can do it. We got a lot
• 50:21
Speaker 12: of smart people up there. Just figure it out. Quit fighting.
• 50:23
Speaker 12: Quit saying there's my idea or your idea, or his
• 50:25
Speaker 12: idea or their idea. What's worked together? Finally, as a state,
• 50:28
Speaker 12: you know, we're still blessed as a great state. We
• 50:30
Speaker 12: have revenues coming in, we're there, we have great people.
• 50:33
Speaker 12: Let's just work together. Put the campaign's over. I say
• 50:36
Speaker 12: this all the time. You know the campaign's over. You
• 50:38
Speaker 12: know whatever you ran for, Hey, we're all one now.
• 50:40
Speaker 12: You know you're all one team. Now work together to
• 50:42
Speaker 12: make this state better. That's what the people like to do.
• 50:44
Speaker 4: For Unfortunately, though, the campaign is never over. That seems
• 50:47
  Speaker 4: to be the.
• 50:47
Speaker 12: PAYBC There'll always be campaign and ABC's there'll always be campaigning.
• 50:51
Speaker 4: All right, all right, So you know where I'm gonna
• 50:53
Speaker 4: go next with you. We're gonna do we come on.
• 51:00
  Speaker 4: I know you're you're a young guy, you got a
• 51:02
Speaker 4: lot going for you. I know you're always thinking. I mean,
• 51:03
Speaker 4: you ran for secretary of state last year. No, you
• 51:06
Speaker 4: keep a close side of the legislature. Any any any
• 51:09
Speaker 4: hints just between us now, nobody's listening.
• 51:11
Speaker 12: Just yeah, no one's listening right now. If I did anything,
• 51:13
Speaker 12: i'd keep it more local.
• 51:14
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 51:14
Speaker 12: Obviously a state wide race that took a big toll
• 51:16
Speaker 12: on me, and that's a lot now with this restaurant Endea,
• 51:18
Speaker 12: damnure got you killed, but I got to kill Yeah,
• 51:20
Speaker 12: literally literally, I'm gonna stay out of the heads there. I
• 51:22
Speaker 12: saw places of West Virginia. I know I'm not going
• 51:24
Speaker 12: to step foot in again because I'm afraid of those
• 51:27
Speaker 12: nets that are out there. But no, bottom line has
• 51:28
Speaker 12: met a lot of great people traveling the state. But hey,
• 51:30
Speaker 12: I'm focused on growing businesses here, helping the community, uh,
• 51:33
Speaker 12: being a part of something special and growing this phaseus. Hey,
• 51:36

• 51:44

  Speaker 12: go to face.
