Speaker 4: Tuesday edition of the show. Another beautiful day here in
• 2:02
Speaker 4: the Kanawa Valley. Want to say good morning to everyone. Everyone,
• 2:06
Speaker 4: that is, except for the person who thought running a
• 2:09
Speaker 4: red light in Tays Valley at around seven this morning,
• 2:13
Speaker 4: at the light turning on to Great Says Boulevard to
• 2:17
Speaker 4: get that tutor's biscuit. Everybody that that guy who thought
• 2:21
Speaker 4: it was a good idea, the cut in front of
• 2:23
Speaker 4: all this traffic running a red light, nearly causing a
• 2:26
Speaker 4: major accident. The guy into black Chrysler. I hope you
• 2:30
  Speaker 4: don't have a good day, and I hope you're Mary
• 2:31
Speaker 4: b was worth it. So anyway, that laugh is coming
• 2:35
Speaker 4: to us from Kenawha County Commission President at Ben Silangko, Hey,
• 2:37
  Speaker 4: doing man good.
• 2:38
Speaker 6: I guarantee you it was worth it?
• 2:41
Speaker 4: Was it really was it really it's a tutor. I
• 2:45
Speaker 4: loved you. I had on the network show. I had
• 2:49
Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago we had WU President Michael T.
• 2:51
Speaker 4: Benson on the show and we literally was a ten
• 2:54
Speaker 4: minute interview Ben, and we spent maybe five minutes talking
• 2:58
  Speaker 4: about tutors.
• 3:00
Speaker 6: We could do an entire show on tutors.
• 3:03
Speaker 4: And he did not pronounce it tudors. Uh like a
• 3:06
Speaker 4: like a like a former president who shall remain names
• 3:09
Speaker 4: did uh but uh, But yeah, well he's he's embraced
• 3:13
Speaker 4: the culture, you know. And I said and I kind
• 3:16
Speaker 4: of got, you know, a little thing going on the
• 3:18
Speaker 4: tax line here been by saying, you know, how do
• 3:20
Speaker 4: you know you're a true West Virginia? What do you
• 3:22
Speaker 4: if you move here? What do you have to sample
• 3:25
Speaker 4: or what do you have to have to be a
• 3:26
Speaker 4: West Virginia? And I got all kinds of answers. Of course,
• 3:28
Speaker 4: tutors Gino's Pepperoni rolls was number one. Of course. You
• 3:33
Speaker 4: know that mister b potato chips, you know, yeah, those
• 3:37
Speaker 4: are West Virginia things.
• 3:38
Speaker 6: Yeah, those are those are good too, especially the new
• 3:40
Speaker 6: three or four style and the flavor. We had those
• 3:44
Speaker 6: at the house the other day. I tore him through.
• 3:46
Speaker 4: You had those your hand, and uh, we're gonna get
• 3:50
Speaker 4: to some serious stuff here to remember. But you and
• 3:52
Speaker 4: I were just talking before the show. Chris Lawrence is
• 3:55
Speaker 4: on vacation this week. And when Chris is on vacation,
• 3:57
Speaker 4: you know, Jeff does the New Jeff and Daniel anuals
• 4:00
Speaker 4: every morning. But Jeff does the news, and Chris and
• 4:02
Speaker 4: I have the same Uh we like our chair like
• 4:05
Speaker 4: the same height, and so when Jenkins has been in here,
• 4:07
Speaker 4: we just have and it's fine. That's why they make
• 4:09
Speaker 4: them adjustable. But I have to have to adjust it
• 4:11
Speaker 4: a little bit. And we were saying, you know, you
• 4:13
Speaker 4: said I should have my own chair.
• 4:15
Speaker 6: Your own chair. They should carry you out in your
• 4:16
Speaker 6: own chair. And I suggested feeding you grapes, but that's
• 4:19
Speaker 6: way too healthy, and they should feed you tater tots.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: I like it, Ryan, Can you make that happen?
• 4:24
  Speaker 6: Tater tots?
• 4:25
Speaker 4: Can we can we do that?
• 4:26
  Speaker 7: No?
• 4:26
  Speaker 4: No, tater tots.
• 4:27
Speaker 6: You said sliders and slid.
• 4:29
Speaker 4: Chicken wings would be good.
• 4:30
Speaker 6: That would be good. That'd be messy, But sliders and
• 4:33
Speaker 6: tater tots I think would be perfect. And we could
• 4:35
Speaker 6: film that, yeah, and on on, you know, on a
• 4:38
Speaker 6: video segment. You could use that to promo your show.
• 4:40
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, Or you could just set there just like
• 4:42
Speaker 4: toss the man'll throw. Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm sure,
• 4:45
Speaker 4: I'm sure you will. All right, So we got some
• 4:47
Speaker 4: actually serious stuff to get you, not mentioning the guy
• 4:51
Speaker 4: who nearly calls the major act in this morning. Do
• 4:53
Speaker 4: you know a good lawyer? By the way, I could
• 4:55
Speaker 4: I could get an attorney.
• 4:57
Speaker 6: You know, just drive down the interstate. You'll see billboards.
• 4:59
Speaker 4: I think I've suffered mental anguish.
• 5:01
  Speaker 6: You probably, I don't suspect there's a lot of other
• 5:03
  Speaker 6: mental anguish.
• 5:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, it probably it's all like coal, coal mine water
• 5:08
Speaker 4: and running through my veins under a Yeah.
• 5:11
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 5:12
Speaker 4: So a couple of things I didn't want to talk
• 5:14
Speaker 4: to you about. One of those was the UH and
• 5:16
Speaker 4: you you've been on here talking about a new commissioner Wadler,
• 5:18
Speaker 4: and I think I had when she was on your
• 5:20
Speaker 4: commission tenn and talked about it as well. And that
• 5:22
Speaker 4: is the update of the law Enforcement Training centered expansion,
• 5:25
Speaker 4: if you will talk about that.
• 5:26
Speaker 6: Yeah. So that's if you went out to if you're
• 5:29
Speaker 6: at Camp Virgil Tate and instead of going all the
• 5:33
Speaker 6: way out to the actual uh the park, you know
• 5:36
Speaker 6: where the how the homes are, and you turned left
• 5:40
Speaker 6: and you go up into the our current Connaughll County
• 5:42
Speaker 6: Sheriff's training facility, which is very rundown. In fact, part
• 5:47
Speaker 6: of it's falling over the hill. Imagine that in what's
• 5:49
Speaker 6: something falling over hill? Uh. So we were up there,
• 5:52
Speaker 6: and you know, Sheriff Crawford has been asking us to
• 5:55
Speaker 6: do this for a while, and I went up there
• 5:57
Speaker 6: and saw it firsthand a couple of months ago. It
• 5:59
Speaker 6: had been a while I've been up there. We have
• 6:02
Speaker 6: a nice space. We have a nice space, and when
• 6:04
Speaker 6: there's a somewhere around forty two forty three agency use
• 6:07
Speaker 6: that space, FBI, state Police, you name it. All the
• 6:12
Speaker 6: agencies are coming to, all the municipalities are using it
• 6:14
Speaker 6: for a shooting range. But it only goes up to
• 6:17
Speaker 6: one hundred yards, and part of it, as I mentioned,
• 6:19
Speaker 6: is falling over the hill. So we decided to come
• 6:22
Speaker 6: in and basically revamp that, redo it. We're going to
• 6:25
Speaker 6: have a covered shooting range and I think it's going
• 6:28
Speaker 6: to be up to twenty four lanes. So right now,
• 6:30
Speaker 6: when our law enforcement go up there, they have to
• 6:33
Speaker 6: basically sit and wait. You know, it's like six lanes,
• 6:36
Speaker 6: and they wait for people to finish, and then they
• 6:38
Speaker 6: come and they're wasting you know, an hour or two
• 6:40
Speaker 6: hours up there for other people for just a spot
• 6:43
Speaker 6: to open up. So we're going to redo it. I
• 6:45
Speaker 6: mean it's going to be about a two million dollar project.
• 6:48
Speaker 6: We're going to extend the long gun range, actually build
• 6:50
Speaker 6: a new long gun range up to three hundred yards.
• 6:53
Speaker 6: One hundred yards long is a lot, but it's not
• 6:56
Speaker 6: nearly what our snipers need. So we're going to extend
• 6:59
Speaker 6: it up to three hundred yards and then we're going
• 7:01
Speaker 6: to a covered facility. Now not enclosed, and closed is
• 7:05
Speaker 6: way too limiting. It's just going to be covered, so
• 7:07
Speaker 6: three sides of it will be covered so that you
• 7:09
Speaker 6: can do pistols. We can we can actually bring an
• 7:15
Speaker 6: automobile underneath and practice shooting into and also shooting out
• 7:19
Speaker 6: of the automobile. We have we have a contract with
• 7:22
Speaker 6: one of the windshield replacement companies locally and whenever they
• 7:26
Speaker 6: just have a cracked windshield that they replace, they give
• 7:28
Speaker 6: it to us and we put it in a car
• 7:30
Speaker 6: and our law enforcement officers train shooting in and out
• 7:33
  Speaker 6: of it.
• 7:35
Speaker 4: And that's very important, I mean it really is, I
• 7:37
  Speaker 4: mean extremely important.
• 7:39
Speaker 6: It changes the trajectory of the bullet and so when
• 7:42
Speaker 6: and they've had this situation a few years ago, we
• 7:46
Speaker 6: had a situation where one of our officers had to
• 7:49
Speaker 6: defend himself by shooting. He was inside the car, had
• 7:52
Speaker 6: to shoot out, and it changes the trajectory of the
• 7:55
Speaker 6: bullet because of the way the angle of the windshield.
• 7:57
Speaker 6: You know, anytime a bullet goes through something, it has
• 7:59
Speaker 6: the chance to change the directory. So they have to
• 8:02
Speaker 6: train for that scenario. And you know, we're lucky to
• 8:05
Speaker 6: have a good corporate partner that lets us have their
• 8:09
Speaker 6: old broken windshields and our guys train and girls train
• 8:14
Speaker 6: inside and out. And it's very important because they find
• 8:18
Speaker 6: themselves in that situation far more than they should well.
• 8:22
Speaker 4: And I think it's also important and you mentioned it
• 8:23
Speaker 4: there at the beginning. Again, we're talking to Kanawa County Commission,
• 8:27
Speaker 4: president of NSULANGO about the number of agencies that use
• 8:30
Speaker 4: this when you say like forty fifty something like that,
• 8:32
  Speaker 4: forty two or.
• 8:33
Speaker 6: Forty three, and then in federal agencies all over. So
• 8:35
Speaker 6: what we're what we've done is we're gonna the kind
• 8:38
Speaker 6: of Conall County Commission has earmarked the money, we've got
• 8:41
Speaker 6: the money to do it, and now we're looking at
• 8:43
Speaker 6: potentially getting some buy in from other agencies. You know,
• 8:46
Speaker 6: we'll talk to the state, we'll talk to the Feds.
• 8:47
Speaker 6: We'll see if we'll get some money because they use
• 8:50
Speaker 6: it as well, and I think they'll do that. I mean,
• 8:53
Speaker 6: I think there's probably an appetite for that. Honestly, even
• 8:56
Speaker 6: ICE is using the facility now to train. So we've
• 8:59
Speaker 6: got a lot of different agencies that use it and
• 9:02
Speaker 6: they benefit from it. So we're going to create an
• 9:05
Speaker 6: entirely new pistol range and then also a new long
• 9:09
Speaker 6: gun range. But then we're going to shore up the
• 9:12
Speaker 6: what we have now. And then we also have an
• 9:14
Speaker 6: indoor train, not like indoor range, but like an indoor
• 9:18
Speaker 6: It looks like a house that they can breach, go
• 9:20
Speaker 6: in clear rooms. You know, they can put something in
• 9:25
Speaker 6: there to shoot at or you know, for training, and
• 9:28
Speaker 6: they can use they use paintball rounds. But I also
• 9:33
Speaker 6: want to try to if we can use this new
• 9:36
Speaker 6: facility for training purposes for like kids, you know, to
• 9:41
Speaker 6: bring them in, show them how to use a weapon,
• 9:43
Speaker 6: show them how you know the safety procedures. You never
• 9:47
Speaker 6: point in anything, You only put your finger on the
• 9:49
Speaker 6: trigger when you're ready to fire. You don't carry around
• 9:51
Speaker 6: a load of gun, you know, make sure there's nothing
• 9:52
Speaker 6: in the chamber, those types of things. And I think
• 9:54
Speaker 6: that we've got a number of our law enforcement folks
• 9:57
Speaker 6: who are willing to do that. You know, have like
• 9:59
Speaker 6: a Saturday morning for kids, bring them out, or even
• 10:02
Speaker 6: open up the endoor for some some public paintball, which
• 10:05
Speaker 6: will be a blast, causeless you're being shot by the paintball,
• 10:08
Speaker 6: those things actually hurt. Yes, Yes, I'm aware I took
• 10:12
Speaker 6: one in the neck a few years ago and it hurts.
• 10:14
Speaker 4: Now. You need a good attorney, right.
• 10:15
Speaker 6: That's exactly right. I want to sue the paintball.
• 10:18
Speaker 4: There you go. Talking to Knakata Commission Bres, it'd been
• 10:20
Speaker 4: sing like, what's our time frame on this ben?
• 10:22
  Speaker 6: I think we'll be done within a year. We've got
• 10:25
Speaker 6: we've put the architectural part out to bid. We're gonna
• 10:29
Speaker 6: have to have some engineering because I don't want to
• 10:33
Speaker 6: spend a million dollars on a retaining wall, you know.
• 10:36
Speaker 6: So there is a section of one of the facilities,
• 10:39
Speaker 6: one of the portions of the range that's falling over
• 10:41
Speaker 6: the hill. I don't want to have to spend a
• 10:43
Speaker 6: bunch of money on a retaining wall, so we may
• 10:45
Speaker 6: just have to relocate that and just let that hillside go.
• 10:51
Speaker 6: So I think within a year we'll be finished and
• 10:53
Speaker 6: we'll be able to open it up. That's that's the goal.
• 10:55
Speaker 6: Because there's not really a lot of construction. There's some
• 10:58
Speaker 6: tree removal, there's some level, there's going to be some concrete,
• 11:02
Speaker 6: but it's not like we're not erecting, you know, giant structures.
• 11:05
Speaker 6: We've got this one h three sided covered. But I
• 11:09
Speaker 6: don't think that's going to be too significant of a project.
• 11:12
Speaker 6: We'll probably have that done with it. Like you know,
• 11:14
Speaker 6: once we started, it'll be completed within a month.
• 11:17
Speaker 4: Talking again to Kanawh County Commission, bres had been Selanga
• 11:19
Speaker 4: a Dave Island showing five eighty Live has brought to
• 11:21
Speaker 4: you part by Rich the Realtor and Meeks Realty Group.

• 11:37
Speaker 4: at Meekxrealtygroup dot com. Talk about the Judicial Annex. What's
• 11:40
  Speaker 4: going on there?
• 11:41
  Speaker 7: You know what?
• 11:41
Speaker 6: We have finished the fifth floor, so Judge rich lindsay,
• 11:44
Speaker 6: we've he's able to get out of the old courtroom
• 11:47
Speaker 6: across the street and is now in his new digs. Uh.
• 11:50
Speaker 6: That was That was a big project. That was and
• 11:52
Speaker 6: I've said this before, but that was one of the
• 11:54
Speaker 6: projects that would keep me up at night because there
• 11:56
Speaker 6: were so many moving parts. That was such a complicated project.
• 11:59
Speaker 6: You're kind of people would refer to it as landlocked,
• 12:02
Speaker 6: but we are street locked. So it's not like we
• 12:04
Speaker 6: can build out unless we want to lose Virginia Street.
• 12:09
Speaker 6: So there's a lot of stuff going on Virginia Street
• 12:11
Speaker 6: to the Mayora. I talked about that last week.
• 12:12
Speaker 4: I mean there is I hit town every morning about
• 12:16
Speaker 4: seven thirty or so, and I mean it's the buildings
• 12:19
Speaker 4: are I mean, these buildings are going These are private structure,
• 12:22
Speaker 4: but they're going up like.
• 12:24
Speaker 6: They really are. They're doing they're doing a great job
• 12:25
Speaker 6: and anxious to have those finished. You can tell progress
• 12:29
Speaker 6: in a city when you see cranes. Yeah, that's exactly
• 12:32
Speaker 6: what the mayor says. Yeah, that's that's true. That's very true.
• 12:34
Speaker 6: And I'm not talking about just putting a new HVA
• 12:36
Speaker 6: C on top of the building when they're there for
• 12:38
  Speaker 6: a while. So we've got we've got the judicial i
• 12:41
Speaker 6: an Acts. Now that is a that intersection. People have
• 12:45
Speaker 6: to watch out for that intersection that's on the corner
• 12:47
Speaker 6: of Virginia and Court Street, and we've tried to block
• 12:51
Speaker 6: it off best we can, but it also you know,
• 12:54
Speaker 6: goes down. We lose a lane right there in that
• 12:57
Speaker 6: in that area, and then pedestrian traffic people have to
• 13:00
Speaker 6: really watch out when they're crossing the street because you
• 13:02
Speaker 6: have construction and you can be distracted, so you've got
• 13:05
Speaker 6: to pay attention. But the construction is coming along. I
• 13:08
Speaker 6: think we're going to look at probably on the first
• 13:10
Speaker 6: floor part, which was the big part, probably the end
• 13:13
Speaker 6: of twenty six, probably the fall of twenty twenty six.
• 13:17
Speaker 6: Maybe the end of twenty twenty six is when we'll
• 13:19
Speaker 6: be finished. But we initially put that out to bid,
• 13:22
Speaker 6: and it came in way over budget, way over budget,
• 13:25
Speaker 6: so we took a gamble. We actually broke the project
• 13:27
Speaker 6: up in the pieces, rebid it and came in five
• 13:31
Speaker 6: and a half million dollars under, which was you know,
• 13:36
Speaker 6: I was joking with Lance. I said, we're either going
• 13:38
Speaker 6: to look like geniuses or we're going like idiots. I
• 13:40
Speaker 6: don't not sure what the coin. Yeah, but it turned
• 13:42
Speaker 6: out it turned out really well for us, and we
• 13:44
Speaker 6: were able to say five and a half million by
• 13:46
Speaker 6: chopping it up and rebidding it.
• 13:48
Speaker 4: And that's taxpayer money you're saving.
• 13:49
Speaker 6: It's tax payer money. And I think the architects wanted
• 13:52
Speaker 6: to kill me when it was over.
• 13:54
Speaker 4: But here he comes again.
• 13:55
Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah. I was like, no, no, no, we're not
• 13:57
Speaker 6: going out. We're not doing this. We can't. We've got
• 13:59
Speaker 6: to chop this up. We got to do it differently.
• 14:01
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 14:02
Speaker 6: I mean, and I said this in the commission meeting,
• 14:04
Speaker 6: and I mean it. You know, if this was a
• 14:07
Speaker 6: private project like at my law firm or here at
• 14:09
Speaker 6: the radio station, and you were five and a half
• 14:11
Speaker 6: million dollars over budget, there is no way in the
• 14:13
Speaker 6: world you would move forward that project. Well, I mean
• 14:16
Speaker 6: if if you were adding on a you know something
• 14:18
Speaker 6: to your house, you know, your room or something, and
• 14:21
Speaker 6: you were that much over budget, forty percent over budget,
• 14:25
Speaker 6: there's no way you So there's no way we were
• 14:28
Speaker 6: going to do that with tax payer money. I mean,
• 14:30
Speaker 6: that's just foolish. And by chopping it up and kind
• 14:35
Speaker 6: of and also scaling it down a bit, we were
• 14:37
Speaker 6: able to save a lot of money.

• 17:24
Speaker 4: go to Joe. You're on with the commissioner.
• 17:26
Speaker 7: Go ahead, yeah, thank you Dave. Yes, sir, it's your
• 17:30
Speaker 7: commissioner Schlango. I had a question I ever heard of you.
• 17:34
Speaker 7: There is traveling pulled off either. I listen you all
• 17:36
Speaker 7: pretty regularly. But range you're talking about that you're doing
• 17:42
Speaker 7: the improvements on Commissioner is out around Camp vergel Tate. Yes,
• 17:48
Speaker 7: and that's part of that Camp virgil Tate County property
• 17:53
Speaker 7: is donated by a tape foundation. Is that right?
• 17:55
Speaker 6: Well, actually it was. And then so it was odd
• 17:58
Speaker 6: that the county actually owned the part of the property
• 18:02
Speaker 6: out there where the the dorms are located, and then
• 18:10
Speaker 6: the Tate property, the camp Virgil Tate four h owned
• 18:14
Speaker 6: the shooting range, and so we did a land swap
• 18:17
Speaker 6: last year or maybe a was earlier. This year, we
• 18:19
Speaker 6: did a land swap so they would own their property,
• 18:21
Speaker 6: we would own our property. So that was initially correct
• 18:24
Speaker 6: and then it was swapped out.
• 18:27
Speaker 7: And my question is if I noticed that camp in
• 18:32
Speaker 7: the area, there is a nice area for people in
• 18:34
Speaker 7: the area of the community take kids out of hiking.
• 18:38
Speaker 7: They do all kinds of My kids go out there
• 18:40
Speaker 7: since they were for thirty five years, and I'm a
• 18:43
Speaker 7: Canall County Charleston area resident, but there's not a lot
• 18:46
Speaker 7: of places you can take kids, to take your dogs
• 18:48
Speaker 7: to hike through the woods and stuff. And I guess
• 18:51
Speaker 7: the question I have is a lot of that property
• 18:53
Speaker 7: has donated, so basically you've stagnated it for public use.
• 18:58
Speaker 7: And then that rangs out there a lot of time
• 19:01
Speaker 7: was used as a public range, and there's not a
• 19:04
Speaker 7: lot of public ranges available, so it's and when you
• 19:08
Speaker 7: talk about putting in a thousand range thousand feet shooting range,
• 19:13
Speaker 7: that stagnates a whole lot area around that for safety purposes.
• 19:18
Speaker 7: It seems like the county has taken all this And
• 19:20
Speaker 7: I'm all for law enforcement and what you're doing, but
• 19:23
Speaker 7: our tax players money, plus all these foundations were set
• 19:27
Speaker 7: up for one hundred years for use of the public
• 19:29
Speaker 7: and recreational use. It's being taken over. When the county
• 19:33
Speaker 7: if they want to do something like that, why don't
• 19:35
Speaker 7: they just go buy a piece of property. There's a
• 19:37
Speaker 7: lot of areas south of Charleston and all that are
• 19:40
Speaker 7: isolated that would be ideal for that.
• 19:42
Speaker 6: Let me ask you a question. How long have you
• 19:44
Speaker 6: used that place out there to hike and with your kids?
• 19:47
Speaker 6: You mentioned that. How long you been doing that?
• 19:50
Speaker 7: How long? Forty years years? My kids and my grandkids
• 19:56
Speaker 7: go out there routinely.
• 19:58
Speaker 6: Yes, and they know there's already a shooting range there.
• 20:01
Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, but the shooting range is not that big, right, it's.
• 20:06
Speaker 6: The only thing that's going to change. Basically, we're taking
• 20:10
Speaker 6: the existing shooting range and shoring up the part that's
• 20:15
Speaker 6: falling over the hill, and then at the end of
• 20:18
Speaker 6: where the horse barns used to be, there will be
• 20:21
Speaker 6: a three hundred yard range at the end of that,
• 20:24
Speaker 6: and then of course there's also a long gun range
• 20:26
Speaker 6: on the top of that hill, and so it's basically
• 20:29
Speaker 6: going to be in the same vicinity. It's not like
• 20:32
Speaker 6: it's going to take over a lot more land. It's
• 20:34
Speaker 6: going to be and it's not. It is Kenaw County land.
• 20:37
Speaker 6: It's not like we had to go buy a piece
• 20:39
Speaker 6: of property. We already owned that property.
• 20:41
Speaker 7: It's going to be open to the public.
• 20:43
Speaker 6: The no, that's going to be law enforcement facility. That
• 20:47
Speaker 6: is going to be just for long, but we are
• 20:48
Speaker 6: going to try to open up for the public to
• 20:49
Speaker 6: give like kids, the opportunity to learn like proper safety
• 20:53
Speaker 6: techniques and handling a firearm.
• 20:55
Speaker 7: I understand that, but it was open to the public
• 20:58
Speaker 7: to shoot. Now you're taking away for the public to
• 21:00
Speaker 7: shoot and using for law enforcement. I understand that, but
• 21:05
Speaker 7: it's plus the general public get any use out of it.
• 21:10
Speaker 7: It's taken it away from them.
• 21:11
Speaker 6: I'm not sure it is open for the public. I
• 21:13
Speaker 6: thought it was law enforcement only. I mean, we've got
• 21:15
Speaker 6: the facility out there. I've never seen a member of
• 21:17
Speaker 6: the public out there shooting. I may be wrong about that,
• 21:19
Speaker 6: but I've never seen I don't think it is public.
• 21:22
Speaker 6: That's a law enforcement only facility and it's actually run
• 21:25
Speaker 6: by the Knaw County Sheriff's Department and then other facilities
• 21:29
Speaker 6: come out or other agencies come out and use it.
• 21:33
Speaker 7: Before you did the landswamp, it was public, wasn't it.
• 21:36
Speaker 6: No, the landswamp. See here was the problem with this
• 21:39
Speaker 6: is that four H owned a owned land where a
• 21:42
Speaker 6: gun range was, and it wasn't insured for any of that.
• 21:46
Speaker 6: So if there was an if there was an issue, uh,
• 21:51
Speaker 6: four H didn't even have the insurance for like if
• 21:55
Speaker 6: there was an accident out there. And that's something we
• 21:57
Speaker 6: started looking at about a year ago when had the
• 22:00
Speaker 6: issue that came up with the four H was housing
• 22:05
Speaker 6: at risk youth out there because the hotels had kicked
• 22:08
Speaker 6: all these kids out of the facility because they were
• 22:10
Speaker 6: destroying the hotel, so they were letting them use the
• 22:12
Speaker 6: facility there. And then we started doing a little deeper
• 22:16
Speaker 6: dive and realized that part of that facility was actually
• 22:19
Speaker 6: on land we owned and we weren't properly insured for that.
• 22:24
Speaker 6: And then four H actually owned the shooting range and
• 22:28
Speaker 6: they weren't properly insured. So what we did was we
• 22:31
Speaker 6: increased our monetary donation that we give annually to Camp
• 22:35
Speaker 6: Virgil Tate and then did a land swap so that
• 22:38
Speaker 6: legally we would everybody be protected and Camp virgil Tate
• 22:42
Speaker 6: would have additional monies to run the park out there.
• 22:47
Speaker 7: So basically, I mean it, it was open to public
• 22:51
Speaker 7: and for years people have been using it. But I
• 22:54
Speaker 7: guess there's not a whole lot of places for the
• 22:56
Speaker 7: public to shoot in Kanall County.
• 22:58
Speaker 6: That is very true. That is very true. I go
• 23:00
Speaker 6: down to Kanas State Forest and it's typically packed. That's
• 23:03
Speaker 6: where I usually go.
• 23:04
Speaker 7: Yeah, but Cannall State Port is not cap up or maintained,
• 23:07
Speaker 7: and I don't know how how well it's properly reasured
• 23:11
  Speaker 7: as well.
• 23:12
Speaker 6: Uh No, it's state owned. It's state owned facility.
• 23:16
Speaker 7: So so I guess the question is for public shooting
• 23:19
Speaker 7: ranges and all that was one that could have been
• 23:23
Speaker 7: available for the public and improved, and it's getting it's
• 23:25
Speaker 7: getting more and more or less available, uh, for people
• 23:29
Speaker 7: to have a place to shoot deer season. We have
• 23:31
Speaker 7: a lot of sportsmen in West Virginia and Kenall County
• 23:35
Speaker 7: proper and there's no place for them to go and
• 23:38
Speaker 7: and and partake or shoot.
• 23:41
Speaker 6: There are actually a lot there are other ranges. There
• 23:44
Speaker 6: are some that you can you have to belong to,
• 23:46
Speaker 6: like f OP ranges, and then there's some additional where
• 23:48
Speaker 6: you can actually get in. You just have to be
• 23:50
Speaker 6: a membership fee, and that's what they used to like
• 23:52
Speaker 6: clean it up and to uh make improvements at the facility.
• 23:56
Speaker 6: But I don't recall the one that can resitate ever
• 23:59
Speaker 6: being at least during my time on the Commission a
• 24:02
Speaker 6: public range, it was always always law enforcement, and it's
• 24:05
Speaker 6: always there's typically a waiting time to go out there
• 24:08
Speaker 6: for law enforcem So they have to sit out there
• 24:10
Speaker 6: and wait for an hour just to get a lane
• 24:12
Speaker 6: open so they can go shoot.
• 24:15
Speaker 7: I can't vergetate, yes, and who else is shooting there
• 24:19
Speaker 7: when you have to wait for a lane?
• 24:21
Speaker 6: Law enforcement? There are forty three agencies that use that,
• 24:23
Speaker 6: I mean every municipality, the state police, the FBI, you name,
• 24:28
Speaker 6: if they're out there using it, sheriff's department obviously, So
• 24:32
Speaker 6: why are they not using the range? Some of them do?
• 24:36
Speaker 6: Some of them do. Yeah, the municipalities sometimes use the fopiece.
• 24:40
Speaker 7: So what would I mean this is probably a very
• 24:47
Speaker 7: request that when that would probably come to fruition. So
• 24:51
Speaker 7: what do you think the County Commission will ever try
• 24:53
Speaker 7: to make up and invest in a public range for
• 24:57
  Speaker 7: the public.
• 24:59
Speaker 6: Potentially potentially, I mean we'd have to find the space.
• 25:02
Speaker 6: But what we were trying to do is take a
• 25:06
Speaker 6: law enforcement shooting range, one that exists now, and to
• 25:10
Speaker 6: upgrade it because there were a lot of safety issues
• 25:12
Speaker 6: out there, and if you have been out there, you've
• 25:15
Speaker 6: seen them. I mean there's one platform that probably six
• 25:20
Speaker 6: feet of it doesn't have earth underneath. It's just concrete
• 25:23
Speaker 6: kind of hanging over a hill exposed, and you get
• 25:26
Speaker 6: the right person step on that and they're going to
• 25:27
Speaker 6: roll over the hill potentially with a firearm on their hand.
• 25:30
Speaker 6: And so we took an existing law enforcement shooting range
• 25:34
Speaker 6: and upgrade it. That's what we've done. We've made it better.
• 25:38
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 25:38
Speaker 6: MY goal is to make sure that we have properly
• 25:42
Speaker 6: trained and properly equipped law enforcement. And I know they
• 25:45
Speaker 6: appreciate it. I promise you that their families appreciate it.
• 25:48
Speaker 6: And I want to make sure that they're out there
• 25:50
Speaker 6: using this range and making sure that all the agencies
• 25:55
Speaker 6: are able to use this range.
• 25:58
Speaker 7: We don't have a lot of time. I appreciate yourself
• 26:00
Speaker 7: on that and I support our family. There's law enforcement.
• 26:02
Speaker 7: I support that one hundred percent.
• 26:03
Speaker 4: Give me thirty seconds joke, because we got to move on.
• 26:05
Speaker 4: Give me thirty seconds, go ahead.
• 26:07
Speaker 7: The other thing is those fields out there and everything
• 26:09
Speaker 7: used for recreational purposes and everything. You're going to have
• 26:12
Speaker 7: an increased traffic going out through there, and I've all
• 26:16
Speaker 7: been run off the road. My kids go out there
• 26:18
Speaker 7: and take my grandkids out there to use the field
• 26:21
Speaker 7: to recreate in and stuff around the tape the ball
• 26:24
Speaker 7: fields there. What can you do to ensure that the
• 26:26
Speaker 7: traffic going in there once you cross that bridge down there,
• 26:29
Speaker 7: some communities down here there and everything to have kids
• 26:31
Speaker 7: out walking. I think it's twenty five mile on our
• 26:33
Speaker 7: speed limit. It's it's awful tough, and you have to
• 26:35
Speaker 7: be law enforcement coming through there wide open forty.
• 26:38
Speaker 6: Five miles now, well, we've certainly had know. We've let
• 26:41
Speaker 6: the sheriff know because somebody else complained about that a
• 26:43
Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago that there was I guess some
• 26:46
Speaker 6: of the cruisers were speeding down through there. We've asked
• 26:48
Speaker 6: them to slow it down.
• 26:49
Speaker 7: So when we do, can you put some speed bumps
• 26:52
Speaker 7: in there to slow the traffic down in that community
• 26:54
Speaker 7: and people coming in out there with their kids and stuff.
• 26:56
Speaker 6: I'm not opposed to looking at that. Yeah, I mean
• 26:58
Speaker 6: we could probably do some speed bumps.
• 27:00
Speaker 4: Joe. We appreciate your phone call. Thanks a lot, a lot,
• 27:02
Speaker 4: a lot a lot of info in there for and
• 27:04
Speaker 4: I appreciate you taking this phone call there. He obviously
• 27:06
  Speaker 4: had some concerns.
• 27:07
Speaker 6: So no, I mean, listen, I can't go to Walmart
• 27:09
Speaker 6: without somebody stopping ask you a question. I'll take him
• 27:11
Speaker 6: live on the air. I've never shied away from a question, Dave.
• 27:14
Speaker 4: All right, I want to ask you about the security
• 27:16
Speaker 4: updates to the Shawnee Sports Complex. Gonna get a couple
• 27:18
Speaker 4: more things, and we got to get you down the
• 27:19
Speaker 4: road here. There were some security uh updates that were
• 27:23
  Speaker 4: recently announced.
• 27:24
Speaker 6: Yeah. You know, one of one of the problems we've
• 27:26
Speaker 6: had out there is we've got how do I phrase this,
• 27:31
Speaker 6: I wouldn't say necessarily unruly, but excited, a very excited
• 27:35
Speaker 6: parents who sometimes will uh uh get a little mouthy,
• 27:41
Speaker 6: and I'll call him on on occasion they they have
• 27:45
Speaker 6: gotten violent and so over kids, sports, kids, sports, and
• 27:49
Speaker 6: that happens. I mean, you know it, It's not just
• 27:51
Speaker 6: Shanny is all like, no, it goes the culture over
• 27:54
Speaker 6: the country. And uh so we we made a step
• 27:57
Speaker 6: forward and said, wait a minute, if you've got some
• 28:00
Speaker 6: repeat bad actors, then we came up with a process
• 28:03
Speaker 6: to basically ban them from the facility. I hope we
• 28:06
Speaker 6: don't have to use this, I really do. But we
• 28:09
Speaker 6: had an incident out there a few weeks ago where
• 28:12
Speaker 6: people got in an argument and one guy pulled out
• 28:14
Speaker 6: a knife. He's done, like, he won't ever be back
• 28:18
Speaker 6: in that facility. I don't care if he's you know,
• 28:20
Speaker 6: fifty years from now, he's not coming back.
• 28:22
Speaker 4: Are you at liberty to I mean, we don't want
• 28:24
Speaker 4: to discuss. But was it somebody that was local or local?
• 28:27
Speaker 6: Absolutely local. It was more of a domestic issue than
• 28:29
Speaker 6: it was over kids' sports. But if you if you
• 28:31
Speaker 6: come out there and you're going to be violent, you're
• 28:33
Speaker 6: going to be asked to leave and then we're going
• 28:35
Speaker 6: to enforce this new policy. So if it's just somebody,
• 28:39
Speaker 6: this is not just a case. You know, this is
• 28:41
Speaker 6: not for people that are out there chirping. And we
• 28:43
Speaker 6: get that, you know, people that are mad or recall
• 28:45
Speaker 6: and maybe they say something, but this is this is
• 28:48
Speaker 6: when they take it a step too far. They're waiting
• 28:51
Speaker 6: on the ref afterwards, they're you know, going over into
• 28:54
Speaker 6: the stands, causing trouble. They're this is for that escalated
• 28:58
Speaker 6: incident where quite frankly, kids shouldn't be subjected to it.
• 29:03
Speaker 6: People shouldn't be subjected to it. So we're we came
• 29:05
Speaker 6: up with this policy. It's getting a lot of good.
• 29:08
Speaker 6: I mean, other facilities are contacting us saying, wow, we
• 29:10
Speaker 6: did know this. Commission Wheeler came on midday, was talking
• 29:13
Speaker 6: about that last week. Yeah, so we've got if this
• 29:16
Speaker 6: was a private facility, like if it was just owned
• 29:18
Speaker 6: by you or me or whoever, we could kick them out.
• 29:20
Speaker 6: But because it's public, we have to have due process rights,
• 29:23
Speaker 6: and so we've done a procedure where they will get
• 29:26
Speaker 6: an initial notice that they're not allowed back in the facility,
• 29:29
Speaker 6: either for you know a matter of months or years
• 29:31
Speaker 6: or a permanent band depending on how violent it is,
• 29:34
Speaker 6: and then they can come in from the Commission and
• 29:36
Speaker 6: plead their case. They actually have an appeal right, a
• 29:38
Speaker 6: thirty day appeal right. They can come in and say, hey,
• 29:41
  Speaker 6: you know what I did X y Z BO cause
• 29:43
Speaker 6: of or it was a misunderstanding and of course, we'll
• 29:46
Speaker 6: have video there showing and they can they can make
• 29:49
Speaker 6: their appeal. So that's that's the that's the new procedure
• 29:52
Speaker 6: we've got to take. We've got to do something to
• 29:57
Speaker 6: let people know that that's not appropriate, it's not probate. Well,
• 30:00
Speaker 6: you know, we have trouble getting referees now, sure.
• 30:03
Speaker 4: And not just it shawnee. No, I mean I mean,
• 30:05
Speaker 4: are you gonna do it? I mean, are you going
• 30:07
Speaker 4: to be a referee. I can stay home, I can
• 30:09
Speaker 4: stay home and get yelled at. I don't have to
• 30:11
Speaker 4: put on a striped shirt to do that.
• 30:13
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 30:13
Speaker 6: No, we've had a lot of trouble getting refs, and
• 30:15
Speaker 6: so we're going to try to do more to protect
• 30:17
Speaker 6: the coaches, protect the rest, protect the other spectators.
• 30:20
Speaker 4: All Right, somebody asked about that incident. I know you're
• 30:24
Speaker 4: not at liberty to discuss all of it, but was
• 30:27
Speaker 4: the person arrested the person with the knife was.
• 30:29
Speaker 6: Arrest Yes, yeah, there is some grainy video footage the
• 30:32
Speaker 6: person was arrested, but there are also like ten eye witnesses. Okay,
• 30:36
Speaker 6: so that person is arrested and is going to be prosecuted.
• 30:39
Speaker 6: I understand it, all right, all right, So let me
• 30:42
Speaker 6: read this one. A new training facility for police. One
• 30:46
Speaker 6: I'm reading the taxtban one that has.
• 30:49
Speaker 4: Urban warfare training, shooting out of cars in a three
• 30:52
Speaker 4: hundred yard range, one that Ice gets trained on as well.
• 30:55
Speaker 4: Can't wait untill Ice is trained up on drive bys
• 30:57
Speaker 4: urban assault tactics, all while having the overwatch of a
• 30:59
Speaker 4: t sniper. Ben is facilitating the training of Trump's gestapo.
• 31:04
Speaker 6: That seems a bit dramatic. Okay, Oh, it gets better.
• 31:07
Speaker 4: When is Ben switching to Republican? Pretty sure? Ice isn't
• 31:10
Speaker 4: an organization democrats support.
• 31:12
Speaker 6: Well, I tell you what, I don't care what political
• 31:13
Speaker 6: affiliation you are. If you're not supporting your local law enforcement,
• 31:16
  Speaker 6: then then you're the problem. It's not them, it's it's
• 31:19
Speaker 6: a U problem. And just like I told Joe, you know,
• 31:22
Speaker 6: if he wants to and he called it a sales pitch,
• 31:24
Speaker 6: it's not. You know, my had family and law enforcement
• 31:26
Speaker 6: as well. I think the more that we can do
• 31:29
Speaker 6: to make sure that they're properly trained, they definitely appreciate it.
• 31:33
Speaker 6: And this is not some political conspiracy.
• 31:37
Speaker 4: But do if we had a question here about the
• 31:40
Speaker 4: I promise I'll let you go because you got to
• 31:41
Speaker 4: get down the street here about the people paying to
• 31:45
Speaker 4: use the facility. There's a law enforcement agencies pay to
• 31:47
  Speaker 4: use the facilities.
• 31:47
Speaker 6: Some of them do, yeah, they and I forget what
• 31:50
Speaker 6: the rate is, but they do pay a monthly rate,
• 31:52
Speaker 6: and that's for upkeep of the facility. Okay, you know,
• 31:55
Speaker 6: changing out targets and trying to do as much as
• 31:58
Speaker 6: we can to upgrade the facility. But it is in disrepair.
• 32:02
Speaker 6: It really is, and I think if people were out
• 32:04
Speaker 6: there they would see just how bad some of it is.
• 32:07
Speaker 6: And when I went out there and we started talking
• 32:10
Speaker 6: about the limitations of the current facility and just kind
• 32:13
Speaker 6: of expanding part of it. That's what brought this up.
• 32:16
Speaker 6: When we had we did some overhead drone views just
• 32:21
Speaker 6: to see exactly what we were able to expand and
• 32:23
Speaker 6: trying to keep it within that same general footprint, but
• 32:27
Speaker 6: just make it more more usable.
• 32:30
Speaker 4: All right. A couple of weeks away we got trick
• 32:32
Speaker 4: or beat going. I know that your law firm, Saving
• 32:34
Speaker 4: Away from the County Commission is sponsoring that. Thank you
• 32:36
Speaker 4: so much. Tickets are available here at our station. They're free, okay,
• 32:40
Speaker 4: but you do have to come by the station to
• 32:42
Speaker 4: pick up the tickets during normal business hours Monday through Friday,
• 32:46
Speaker 4: you know, eight thirty to five. Again, they're free, but
• 32:49
Speaker 4: you do have to pick up the tickets, and they
• 32:51
Speaker 4: do sell out. I mean, I know, you can't really
• 32:53
Speaker 4: call it sell out if they're free. But we run
• 32:54
Speaker 4: out because run of spacing limitation.
• 32:57
Speaker 7: You know, we ran out.
• 32:58
Speaker 6: I ran out of candy last year. That's how many
• 32:59
Speaker 6: kids come to this. There were, I mean there were thousand,
• 33:01
Speaker 6: three thousand, three thousand kids. I took in a truckload,
• 33:04
Speaker 6: a literal truckload of candy. Again, ran out towards the
• 33:06
Speaker 6: end in the second session and had to go get more.
• 33:10
Speaker 6: But it's it's a very popular event. We have lots
• 33:12
Speaker 6: and lots of kids there. The tickets are free, and
• 33:16
Speaker 6: so if you see somebody scalp them them, don't pay,
• 33:19
Speaker 6: just come over here to the station and pick them up.
• 33:21
Speaker 6: There are two different sessions. It's October twenty eighth and
• 33:24
Speaker 6: it's at Gomart Park over there and also good event.
• 33:27
Speaker 4: That's also the site for the Light to Night, which
• 33:31
Speaker 4: is going to be coming up over to Ballpark November
• 33:34
Speaker 4: twenty first through January the first gets your tickets for
• 33:36
Speaker 4: that in advance by visiting Dblightthnight dot com.
• 33:38
  Speaker 6: That's right. And if you're drive by, you'll see they've
• 33:40
Speaker 6: been putting up lights now for about a month. As
• 33:42
Speaker 6: soon as the baseball season ended, they started putting lights up.
• 33:44
Speaker 6: We're gonna have two and a half million lights. We're
• 33:45
Speaker 6: gonna have the skating rink, We're gonna have some additional attractions.
• 33:49
Speaker 6: Book your corporate parties, you know, call over and talk
• 33:51
Speaker 6: to Andy or George. You know, you can do corporate
• 33:55
Speaker 6: parties over there. They have different suites so if it
• 33:57
Speaker 6: is cold, you actually have a little place to go in,
• 33:59
Speaker 6: but you can do a corporate event and then go
• 34:01
Speaker 6: out and go through the lights and ice skate and
• 34:04
Speaker 6: do whatever you want. But it's a great place for
• 34:07
Speaker 6: corporate events, birthday parties, those types of All.
• 34:09
Speaker 4: Right, and did you have something going back to Halloween
• 34:11
Speaker 4: for a moment out at the Shawnee.
• 34:12
Speaker 6: Sports Yeah, I forgot about that. The Shawnee Spooktacular October thirty.
• 34:16
Speaker 6: If you jump on the Shawnee Sports Complex Facebook page,
• 34:19
Speaker 6: you'll see that we are taking in vendors. There's no
• 34:23
Speaker 6: charge and there's no charge for the kids. But if
• 34:25
Speaker 6: you want to be a vendor, you just fill out
• 34:27
Speaker 6: the form. If we want to promote your company, you
• 34:29
Speaker 6: can come out and give away some candy. But that's
• 34:31
Speaker 6: always well attended to. It's all always weather dependent. But
• 34:36
Speaker 6: you know, if we have good weather, there'll be tons
• 34:37
Speaker 6: of kids out there. One year I went out there
• 34:39
Speaker 6: in the rain. It was still a lot of kids.
• 34:40
Speaker 6: But you know, you can fill out your vendor form,
• 34:42
Speaker 6: come out, give out some candy, and bring the kids
• 34:45
Speaker 6: over October thirty. All that information is on the Kenaw
• 34:48
Speaker 6: County Facebook page and also the Shawne Sports Complex Facebook page.
• 34:51
Speaker 4: All right, somebody asked about going back to over to
• 34:54
Speaker 4: the ballpark. They ever considered doing a Hounted house or
• 34:56
Speaker 4: hanted trail on the field at the ballpark. I think
• 34:59
Speaker 4: it probably probably be a question better answered by Andy.
• 35:02
Speaker 4: I don't know about that. Andy and Jill on it.
• 35:03
Speaker 6: It's a funny whoever sent that in you're you must
• 35:06
Speaker 6: be like reading my text, because that's exactly what I
• 35:09
Speaker 6: want to do next year. Okay, I want to do,
• 35:11
Speaker 6: but there's it's hard to It's hard to do that
• 35:14
Speaker 6: because it's so close to the Light the Night event
• 35:17
Speaker 6: which starts in you know, mid to late November. Uh,
• 35:20
Speaker 6: it would take a lot of effort to get that
• 35:23
Speaker 6: haunted trail up and then have and also be able
• 35:25
Speaker 6: to do the lights around it.
• 35:27
  Speaker 11: Uh.
• 35:27
Speaker 4: But good idea in theory. It is a it's a
• 35:29
Speaker 4: great idea and it would be very very popular. Jay
• 35:32

Speaker 4: this morning wv Metronews dot com. A hearing's going to
• 46:42
Speaker 4: happen tomorrow, starting at ten in Knaw Circuit Court in
• 46:45
Speaker 4: front of Judge Richard Lindsay. Now Brad calls it in
• 46:47
Speaker 4: his story awkwardly timed. That's a good way to put it,
• 46:51
Speaker 4: and it is because a circuit judge in Raleigh County
• 46:54
Speaker 4: last week announced his plans to certify a class of
• 46:57
Speaker 4: families who are claiming religious exemptions as a reason not
• 47:00
Speaker 4: to get to kids vaccinated. Now we're talking about five
• 47:02
Speaker 4: hundred and seventy families overall. Now here's where it gets complicated.
• 47:08
Speaker 4: As if it weren't complicated enough already. Judge Michael Froebel
• 47:11
Speaker 4: will not enter a final written order about the class
• 47:14

• 47:20
Speaker 4: leaving everybody kind of in a state of whatever until
• 47:25
  Speaker 4: that time. It's a very, very complicated. I don't pretend
• 47:28
Speaker 4: to understand it. Brad Michael Henney does write about it

• 47:54
Speaker 4: unique perspective on Gozam, the hostages and so on and
• 47:59
Speaker 4: so forth, because he was actually living in Israel on
• 48:02
Speaker 4: October seventh when that occurred, and he knew several people
• 48:06
Speaker 4: who were killed on that day back in twenty twenty three,
• 48:09
Speaker 4: when the fighting really escalated. I mean it was going on,
• 48:12
Speaker 4: but it really escalated. Then go back and listen to
• 48:14

Speaker 4: a very unique I thought it very interesting. Unique's not
• 49:03
Speaker 4: the right, We're very interesting. Op ed in the Gazette
• 49:06
Speaker 4: mail this morning, and it looks at it was a
• 49:10
Speaker 4: study conducted by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University, and it
• 49:14
Speaker 4: found out workers who rely heavily on AI suffer a
• 49:18
Speaker 4: decline and critical thinking. Now, this was also done on
• 49:21
Speaker 4: the quantum in reporting the quantum record. Studies show that
• 49:26
Speaker 4: students who rely on AI tender form more poorly on
• 49:29
Speaker 4: tests and the problem is actually getting worse. Continuing engagement
• 49:35
Speaker 4: with AI and social media platforms deprives attention, says the
• 49:40
Speaker 4: study for more traditional forms of learning. This is what
• 49:44
Speaker 4: I found interesting, and this actually goes a little bit
• 49:47
Speaker 4: before AI. Most of this research course is new, but
• 49:51
Speaker 4: there is a differite correlation between high technology and declining
• 49:56
Speaker 4: cognitive skills. It showed those that had achieved higher levels
• 50:02
Speaker 4: of education were less likely to find their thinking dulled
• 50:05
  Speaker 4: by using a I. I just for some reason, I
• 50:08
Speaker 4: just thought that was it was fascinating. There was another
• 50:11
Speaker 4: study done by Northwestern University showing that I accused declde
• 50:15
Speaker 4: in the early twenty and twenty tens, particularly in the
• 50:18
Speaker 4: areas of verbal reasoning, matrix reasoning, so on and so forth.
• 50:24
Speaker 4: And it's the first time I accus in America have
• 50:29
Speaker 4: trended down after a nearly century of the obvious or
• 50:35
Speaker 4: century of not declining. I should say kind of obvious
• 50:39
Speaker 4: to me as to why I cus are going down.
• 50:43
Speaker 4: Mister meadows back from vacation. Did you rest up a
• 50:47
  Speaker 4: little bit, bunny?
• 50:47
  Speaker 6: I did.
• 50:48
Speaker 4: Did you shoot some golfs? We played top golf? Okay,
• 50:51
Speaker 4: all right, we did that with the kids.
• 50:52
Speaker 6: I didn't go, of course, did you.
• 50:54
Speaker 4: I don't know if you read that, you heard me
• 50:56
Speaker 4: reference and they just wanted in the studio. There was
• 50:58
Speaker 4: an op ed in the gazette this morning where they
• 51:00
Speaker 4: they actually called upon some other studies, Carnegie, Mellon and
• 51:02
Speaker 4: so on and so forth, And you can one portion
• 51:06
Speaker 4: of it, TJ was about AI, okay, but a bigger
• 51:10
Speaker 4: portion shows that our IQs have been declining in America
• 51:13
Speaker 4: since the early two thousands. Oh what prey tale came
• 51:16
Speaker 4: around and became popular in the early two thousands? Was
• 51:21
  Speaker 4: it the iPhone?
• 51:23
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 51:24
Speaker 4: And social media and social media there you go.
• 51:27
Speaker 16: Look, if you don't use your brain at rots, right,
• 51:30
Speaker 16: I mean no, I would say this. I think AI
• 51:34
Speaker 16: can be a great tool to sharpen your brain if.
• 51:37
Speaker 4: You if you're more educated. According to the study, if
• 51:40
Speaker 4: you're more educated, you're less likely to suffer the bad
• 51:45
Speaker 4: effects of AI. That's what they're saying.
• 51:47
Speaker 6: I could see that.
• 51:47
Speaker 4: But a bigger picture to me than AI, though, is
• 51:51
Speaker 4: going back to the early two thousands, first generation that's
• 51:54
Speaker 4: actually getting dumber, and why are we getting dumber? M
• 51:58
  Speaker 4: social media iPhones.
• 52:01
Speaker 16: There's a lot to go into there in like sixty seconds.
• 52:04
Speaker 16: But do I feel like we don't teach kids how
• 52:09
Speaker 16: to think critically today as well? Yes, I absolutely feel
• 52:13
Speaker 16: we are missing the elements of critical thinking and the
• 52:16
Speaker 16: importance of teaching our children to think critically.
• 52:18
Speaker 4: And that's not all on the teachers. That's also on
• 52:20
Speaker 4: Mam and dad starts with mom and dad, then it
• 52:22
Speaker 4: goes all right, absolutely, mister Meadows. Quickly, what you got
• 52:25

• 52:37
