Latest / In the Loop AI / OpenAI Launched its ChatGPT Atlas Browser. Is this the End of Google Chrome?
Transcript
- 0:03Josh: Openai has got a browser just like chrome just like safari just like complexity
- 0:08Josh: openai now officially has a web browser that you
- 0:11Josh: can use today the download is available ejaz and i we have been playing around
- 0:15Josh: with it for the last hour or two it just got announced and we have a lot of
- 0:17Josh: thoughts and takes on this browser what it means for ai if it actually is valuable
- 0:23Josh: and what it means for the grand plan of openai this very much feels like a stepping
- 0:27Josh: stone in their attempt to gather more information,
- 0:30Josh: get more familiar with your habits, and then eventually roll out an operating
- 0:34Josh: system for you, for your human entire, your entire human experience.
- 0:38Josh: So this is a really exciting announcement.
- 0:40Josh: It's cool to see OpenAI jump into the browser game.
- 0:43Josh: Ejaz, I know you were all over the live stream too. We just finished watching
- 0:45Josh: it. What were the first impressions? Walk us through exactly what they even announced today.
- 0:49Ejaaz: So OpenAI's new browser is called Atlas, and it's as if Google Chrome and ChatGPT had a baby.
- 0:58Ejaaz: And I mean it because ChatGPT is at the center of this entire new browser.
- 1:03Ejaaz: It kind of looks like a browser.
- 1:05Ejaaz: You have familiar things like tabs, history.
- 1:08Ejaaz: You have a cursor that you can scroll. You can type in URLs.
- 1:11Ejaaz: But with some noticeable new features, Josh, you get browser memory.
- 1:16Ejaaz: So this is something that I'm super excited about.
- 1:19Ejaaz: In ChatGPT, something that makes it super special is that ChatGPT remembers
- 1:22Ejaaz: everything about me and it results in a really personalized AI experience.
- 1:26Ejaaz: That now comes over to your browsing experience in this new browser.
- 1:30Ejaaz: It remembers everything. You can search for new specific things.
- 1:33Ejaaz: If you're like, hey, I read something in a blog post the other week,
- 1:36Ejaaz: but I can't remember, you can kind of like now search for it.
- 1:39Ejaaz: And this other really cool feature called Agent Mode, which is currently only
- 1:44Ejaaz: available to Pro and Plus users.
- 1:46Ejaaz: But on this browser, you can now engage in OpenAI's agent to do things for you.
- 1:51Ejaaz: And if this sounds like something that's kind of familiar, it's because other
- 1:55Ejaaz: AI browsers have also pitched this kind of similar feature.
- 1:58Ejaaz: But I think it's quite unique in OpenAI sense because it gives you the ability
- 2:03Ejaaz: to kind of do other stuff and you can watch it do things for you.
- 2:06Ejaaz: It can book restaurants for you.
- 2:08Ejaaz: It can book flights for you. It could research things for you.
- 2:11Ejaaz: It could write code for you. Some really cool things.
- 2:14Ejaaz: My initial take on this, Josh, which may be a little controversial, is
- 2:20Ejaaz: It seems like a really cool new browsing experience, but I don't know how much
- 2:24Ejaaz: it necessarily adds to my life.
- 2:27Ejaaz: I get that it basically moves you from just using the chat GPT terminal to bringing
- 2:33Ejaaz: chat GPT to everywhere you browse on the internet. I get that.
- 2:37Ejaaz: But I don't know if it's noticeably different for me to kind of like jump all
- 2:41Ejaaz: in. Do you have any initial reactions?
- 2:44Josh: I think mine are probably similar to yours where we've seen AI browsers before.
- 2:47Josh: And in fact i almost feel like this could have been
- 2:50Josh: an extension kind of like what anthropic did they just
- 2:53Josh: released a browser extension that lives as a companion i understand
- 2:56Josh: why they didn't but it feels like it is about that level of importance um it's
- 3:02Josh: cool in the sense that it's a companion i don't know how much i'll use it i
- 3:05Josh: love the chat gpt app and i'm very stuck in my ways on how i use my browsers
- 3:10Josh: and and the way i use chrome and the way i use safari and i use a series of
- 3:13Josh: different browsers for different things.
- 3:16Josh: What I find interesting though is that
- 3:19Josh: There wasn't really anything new announced today. It's mostly just a wrapper
- 3:24Josh: of their existing technologies.
- 3:27Josh: So, Ijaz, you mentioned agent earlier as one of the key features.
- 3:29Josh: Well, we made an episode about agent from ChatGPT, like what,
- 3:33Josh: Two or three months ago, like quite a while ago, where they had announced the agent feature.
- 3:37Josh: What they did here is they really just rolled up that agent feature and they
- 3:41Josh: placed it into a web interface.
- 3:43Josh: And then another thing is the improved search, where they swapped
- 3:46Josh: out the Google search bar for a chat gpt search bar and when
- 3:49Josh: you type things in it will search using chat gpt and that's
- 3:52Josh: kind of what a lot of users are doing already is
- 3:56Josh: they're treating chat gpt like google and they're getting these like
- 3:58Josh: enhanced augmented answers through the browser experience so the
- 4:02Josh: new thing for me as a user would be just
- 4:05Josh: the fact that it's more embedded in everything so a common problem
- 4:08Josh: with the chat gpt application that sits on my desktop
- 4:11Josh: and my mobile app is that it doesn't have access to all the accounts
- 4:14Josh: that i'm logged into so i i need
- 4:16Josh: to like log into a lot of accounts it's kind of a pain with this browser
- 4:20Josh: feature it has access to everything and what
- 4:22Josh: i found interesting is there's actually two modes when you start to
- 4:25Josh: spin up the browser and you use the agentic feature it'll ask you it'll say
- 4:29Josh: hey do you want to use with logged in accounts or without login accounts and
- 4:33Josh: part of that it actually offers a warning saying hey this agent is actually
- 4:37Josh: going to take actions on your behalf so be sure to monitor it if you give it
- 4:41Josh: access to all of your accounts because there is a small chance that it does
- 4:43Josh: something that you may not want it to do.
- 4:45Josh: So it's very much this like early experimental software, but I do see it as the stepping stone.
- 4:51Josh: I mean, as we talk about this all the time where OpenAI wants the operating
- 4:55Josh: system for your life, they want to be the single AI subscription that powers
- 4:58Josh: everything from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep and thinking
- 5:02Josh: proactively while you are asleep.
- 5:04Josh: And I think this is very much just another attempt to further embed themselves
- 5:07Josh: by getting into the browser experience and everything associated with that experience.
- 5:14Ejaaz: Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think I'm browsing through Fiji Simo,
- 5:19Ejaaz: the CEO of OpenAI Applications here, her announcement post about this.
- 5:25Ejaaz: And she goes over here, she goes, the apps SDK, which is something that OpenAI
- 5:30Ejaaz: released, I think, two weeks ago now.
- 5:33Ejaaz: And the whole point of the apps SDK was to bring apps into the ChatGPT app that
- 5:38Ejaaz: you and I and 800 million other weekly active of users use every week into ChatGPT.
- 5:43Ejaaz: So it enriches that experience.
- 5:45Ejaaz: But the point she makes here is, but ChatGPT should also be able to help you where you already are.
- 5:50Ejaaz: And this kind of got me thinking about how I use other AI models.
- 5:55Ejaaz: So another AI model I use is Grok, right? The one from XAI, that Elon Musk's AI model.
- 6:00Ejaaz: And I was talking to you about this before we started recording,
- 6:02Ejaaz: Josh. But one thing that I keep coming back to when it comes to using Grok is
- 6:07Ejaaz: it's because I'm browsing X and Twitter, Grok's already there.
- 6:11Ejaaz: So I can just press a button and get a summary of something or have something
- 6:16Ejaaz: explained to me that I don't quite understand that someone's talking about.
- 6:19Ejaaz: And I find that really addictive and useful to me. It improves my life.
- 6:23Ejaaz: If I could do that with ChatGPT, which is opened on another account in another
- 6:28Ejaaz: tab, but requires more clicks for me to get there.
- 6:30Ejaaz: I need to copy and paste the tweet. I need to give it a bit of context.
- 6:33Ejaaz: That kind of annoys me, right? So I don't use it.
- 6:36Ejaaz: Now, I potentially might, right? I log into X, ChatGPT gets access to all my
- 6:41Ejaaz: X history, which is probably good and very bad, and is able to kind of build
- 6:45Ejaaz: up a persona around me. So it already knows what I'm going to ask.
- 6:48Ejaaz: Maybe it suggests things as I'm scrolling through X.
- 6:51Ejaaz: And that integrated experience is really useful for me.
- 6:55Ejaaz: But on the other side, I don't know whether this is good enough for me to kind
- 6:59Ejaaz: of use a completely new browser, right?
- 7:02Ejaaz: You mentioned that you could import all your bookmarks and log into all your different accounts.
- 7:06Ejaaz: Yeah, that's cool. But I don't know if that's good enough for me to stop using Chrome entirely.
- 7:11Josh: Yeah, there was a series of interesting things in this post from Fiji.
- 7:15Josh: Fiji, CEO of product, not to be confused with CEO of the actual company.
- 7:21Josh: And there's a few things. One of the things in your key capability section was
- 7:25Josh: voice control, voice controlling your tabs. I think this is particularly interesting.
- 7:29Josh: One of my obsessions is how you engage with AI.
- 7:32Josh: And being able to actually engage with the browser using voice is something
- 7:36Josh: that I believe is novel and very interesting to me, where if I can just converse
- 7:40Josh: with my browser, if I could say, hey,
- 7:42Josh: open up this tab, find a post like this, and I could see it kind of visually doing that for me.
- 7:47Josh: I think that's an interesting unlock that I'm excited to play around with.
- 7:50Josh: And the other, she had a large section in here all about memory.
- 7:53Josh: And the memory thing I find interesting because this feels like the largest
- 7:57Josh: value prop for the user, but also for OpenAI and understanding the user more. And
- 8:02Josh: One of the first bullet points here, it says, Chachi Bati can remember your
- 8:05Josh: browsing patterns, preferences, and context.
- 8:07Josh: For example, gluten-free recipes. If you are resistant to gluten,
- 8:11Josh: it will search specifically for recipes that have no gluten just because it
- 8:16Josh: understands that memory preference stack.
- 8:17Josh: So that seems like an interesting part of it where, okay, you can talk to it with your voice now.
- 8:23Josh: It remembers more and has more context of the actual browser functionality.
- 8:29Josh: Um seems kind of interesting
- 8:32Josh: um but again to your point you just i'm kind of trying to
- 8:35Josh: i'm trying to convince myself give myself reasons why i would be excited to
- 8:39Josh: use this and voice is one um because i do love constantly when i use chat gpt
- 8:44Josh: my most frequent way of interfacing with it is with voice but is that enough
- 8:48Josh: i don't know i'm trying to find the killer use case that killer feature and
- 8:53Josh: i'm just falling short when i think about it
- 8:54Ejaaz: Okay so So I want to spin my most optimistic take on this new browser,
- 9:01Ejaaz: Josh, and it is as follows.
- 9:02Ejaaz: It's something you mentioned right at the start, which is, I think if we view
- 9:07Ejaaz: this as an intermediary step towards what is ultimately going to be a brand
- 9:11Ejaaz: new operating system for this AI technology,
- 9:15Ejaaz: I think that's an optimistic outlook and this makes sense, right?
- 9:18Ejaaz: Why does it make sense? Well, I think in a world where AI and AGI is used in
- 9:24Ejaaz: everything that I do, it needs to be incredibly personal.
- 9:28Ejaaz: So it needs to know everything about me.
- 9:30Ejaaz: And it needs to know everything about you, Josh. And the difference between
- 9:33Ejaaz: you and me will be vast and different and similar in many different ways.
- 9:36Ejaaz: But it needs to be able to distinguish between that.
- 9:38Ejaaz: I think a browser is a great step to do that. I kind of view my browser as my
- 9:43Ejaaz: homepage, my welcome page to the internet. the doormat, if you like.
- 9:47Ejaaz: I like that when I type in a URL on Google Chrome, it already knows which website
- 9:52Ejaaz: I'm trying to go to, which tab I already have opened, and it just takes me there directly.
- 9:56Ejaaz: But I feel like a next leap in that is an AI that's reading my mind that maybe
- 10:01Ejaaz: does some work for me, or that maybe preempts a bunch of things.
- 10:05Ejaaz: Maybe it books the restaurant that it knows I need to go to in two weeks' time
- 10:09Ejaaz: without me needing to kind of open up a tab and do it for myself.
- 10:12Ejaaz: So um what this end goal eventually
- 10:15Ejaaz: ends up being is this new operating system with whatever form factor uh we end
- 10:20Ejaaz: up using whether it's ai glasses that we've mentioned a lot on uh the show before
- 10:24Ejaaz: or whether it's a brand new one that open ai is cooking behind the scenes i
- 10:28Ejaaz: don't know i don't think we're quite there but i think this is an intermediary
- 10:31Ejaaz: step before that and therefore it's worth a.
- 10:33Josh: Shot so like we mentioned earlier in the episode this actually is available
- 10:36Josh: for download right now it's for mac only but we both
- 10:39Josh: downloaded it ejaz and i and we've been playing around with it in fact
- 10:42Josh: we want to give a demo right now so ejaz you have the browser open
- 10:45Josh: on the screen show us how it works what the one thing that
- 10:48Josh: i'm i'm kind of taken back by a first impression when i open this browser is
- 10:51Josh: how similar it looks to other browsers this really doesn't look any different
- 10:55Josh: from a chrome a safari any popular browser that you're used to i guess that's
- 10:59Josh: probably because we've been trained to use it but show us some of the cool new
- 11:03Josh: features maybe the agent feature and how we use that cool well
- 11:06Ejaaz: Yeah there's a bit of a magic wand that you can wave here which is this agent mode.
- 11:10Josh: Button right over here.
- 11:13Ejaaz: And you might notice that there is a new cursor that has appeared that is asking
- 11:17Ejaaz: me, what should we do today?
- 11:18Ejaaz: And this is basically OpenAI's agent that can do a bunch of things autonomously
- 11:23Ejaaz: for you as you browse or you can watch it, right?
- 11:25Ejaaz: So I have a specific prompt that I want to demo here, which is I'm asking it
- 11:30Ejaaz: to find the Limitless podcast on YouTube, subscribe to the channel,
- 11:34Ejaaz: and leave a comment about how great they are under their most recent episode. Excellent.
- 11:39Ejaaz: A little generic, but, you know, I have to give it a go. And I'm going to click
- 11:44Ejaaz: the button here to set the prompt.
- 11:47Ejaaz: And my initial reaction is, oh, this is just ChatGPT, right?
- 11:51Ejaaz: Like there's nothing new here. And then suddenly this new window appears before
- 11:56Ejaaz: me and it is my YouTube channel and it is sparkly and I can see a cursor moving, but it's not me, Josh.
- 12:04Ejaaz: I'm not moving this at all. And what I'm realizing is this is ChatGPT's agent
- 12:09Ejaaz: doing exactly what we requested of it autonomously in front of us. This is just so cool.
- 12:15Josh: I wonder how it's going to do it seems like it's located the
- 12:18Josh: podcast and what i like about this is you could kind of see the chain of thought
- 12:21Josh: on that right tab over here so it's um it's opening the search results it says
- 12:25Josh: i found a link for the limitless podcast that leads to a youtube channel so
- 12:28Josh: it's as it's clicking through these things it's walking through the steps and
- 12:32Josh: it's just entered our channel so we're here um
- 12:35Ejaaz: Oh and i just clicked.
- 12:36Josh: The subscribe button Okay, that's great.
- 12:41Ejaaz: We are now subscribed.
- 12:42Josh: Subscribing to Limitless is this easy.
- 12:44Ejaaz: And it's opened up. It's opened up our most recent video.
- 12:48Josh: Oh, this is kind of cool. Okay, it's doing it.
- 12:51Ejaaz: Let's see. Fingers crossed. Let's see. It's running a comment.
- 12:54Josh: Okay, it selected the comment, the text field. It's going to come up with hopefully
- 13:00Josh: something nice and generous.
- 13:01Ejaaz: Wow, this is the latest episode. It was fantastic. Limitless is truly pushing
- 13:05Ejaaz: the boundaries. And will it click publish?
- 13:08Josh: Let's see come on this is actually very impressive um how well it's working
- 13:14Josh: listen if you want to give a demo this is an excellent demo to do
- 13:17Ejaaz: Oh so i'm seeing on
- 13:20Ejaaz: here just gonna pause it i'm seeing on the right side it said i found the limitless
- 13:24Ejaaz: podcast channel subscribe to it and drafted a positive comment um would you
- 13:28Ejaaz: like me to post this comment now now what i like about this josh is it's asking
- 13:33Ejaaz: for my review before it posted because this is something that might affect how
- 13:37Ejaaz: people perceive me on the internet.
- 13:39Ejaaz: And so therefore it understands that this is a point where I need to interact
- 13:42Ejaaz: with the human to check that if it's cool.
- 13:44Ejaaz: So if I respond, yes, go ahead, it should post that comment. Let's have a look.
- 13:52Josh: Okay, we're back at the sparkly screen, which is symboling it's doing something.
- 13:56Ejaaz: And it's click comment. Boom. It's done.
- 13:58Josh: Sent. Done. Okay, that's pretty cool. That's epic. That's fun.
- 14:02Josh: It's a fun demo. It's fun to use.
- 14:04Josh: Now, granted, Ejaz, could you do this in the previous agent functionality of ChatGPT?
- 14:10Josh: Is that something you think would work?
- 14:12Ejaaz: No, because you would have to integrate YouTube directly into the ChatGPT terminal,
- 14:17Ejaaz: and that's not available.
- 14:18Josh: Okay, so this is a novel use case. That is exciting. Okay, so Ejaz, more demos.
- 14:22Josh: What else can this thing do? I know you yourself are a bit of a restaurant connoisseur.
- 14:26Josh: Do you have anything that we can test against that?
- 14:29Ejaaz: I am. So this is a real life use case that I need resolved ASAP,
- 14:34Ejaaz: which is I'm booking a dinner for four somewhere in New York on Friday,
- 14:39Ejaaz: and I haven't got a single reservation.
- 14:42Ejaaz: So I am booking a dinner with my friends on Friday.
- 14:51Ejaaz: Pick a restaurant in
- 14:55Ejaaz: williamsburg josh let's see uh williamsburg
- 15:01Ejaaz: and reserve it and so the agent as we've just demonstrated is going to uh find
- 15:10Ejaaz: a way uh to figure out what the best restaurant is in williamsburg or something
- 15:13Ejaaz: that might be suited towards my taste and hopefully book it Now, notice a few things.
- 15:18Ejaaz: I haven't given it my preference of time and I haven't kind of like logged into
- 15:23Ejaaz: any reservation platform. So it's a little more challenging than the previous
- 15:27Ejaaz: prompt where I'd already logged into my YouTube.
- 15:29Ejaaz: Now, typically you could log into your resi and it could just do this swiftly
- 15:32Ejaaz: for you. So I'm interested to see how it starts to tackle this.
- 15:35Ejaaz: Okay, so it's asked me a follow-up because I didn't give it enough information,
- 15:38Ejaaz: which is number of guests and preferred time.
- 15:41Ejaaz: So four guests and...
- 15:45Ejaaz: Uh around 7 p.m
- 15:49Ejaaz: and so it says let's do this it's starting to find reservations and what
- 15:52Ejaaz: we should see soon is a side window pop-up where it's going to start browsing
- 15:57Ejaaz: and using search to basically find a really cool restaurant now and there we
- 16:02Ejaaz: go right now it's looking at infatuation it's looking at eater these are all
- 16:05Ejaaz: popular food review sites that are in new york and it's going to find me something.
- 16:09Ejaaz: But whilst that's cooking, Josh, I kind of want to show some similar,
- 16:14Ejaaz: not as loud, but quiet features from this new browser that I think is pretty
- 16:19Ejaaz: cool. So why don't you give me something to search?
- 16:21Josh: I want to know more about the new M5 version of the Apple Vision Pro.
- 16:25Josh: They just released it last week. I was interested in getting it.
- 16:28Josh: I want to know more about that.
- 16:29Ejaaz: Okay, so let's go with Apple Vision Pro M5. So this is typical to any search
- 16:35Ejaaz: browser where you press enter, except you might notice a few different things here.
- 16:40Ejaaz: So immediately, rather than being faced with a Google ranking page where you
- 16:44Ejaaz: can see a bunch of hyperlinks and you kind of figure out which is the right
- 16:47Ejaaz: website to click to get your information on, you're given a chat GPT page where
- 16:52Ejaaz: it summarizes, it says, okay,
- 16:54Ejaaz: Josh, I kind of figured that you want to know what's good about this M5 chip.
- 16:58Ejaaz: Here's like the new features from the chip and why it's going to be so useful for you.
- 17:02Ejaaz: Here's what hasn't changed from the previous chip. And here's who this chip is mainly aimed for.
- 17:07Ejaaz: Maybe it's for a slightly more technical audience or someone that's looking
- 17:10Ejaaz: for a little bit more kick out of their computer than they're expecting.
- 17:13Ejaaz: So this is already more helpful for me than an average Google search where I
- 17:18Ejaaz: have to then go into the Apple website.
- 17:19Ejaaz: I need to navigate to the new M5 chip, Apple Vision Pros, and read about the new M5 thing.
- 17:24Ejaaz: What I'm noticing is it hasn't told me about the Vision Pro specifically.
- 17:29Ejaaz: It has given me some general takeaways here. But what I think is really interesting
- 17:34Ejaaz: here, Josh, is if I don't want to look at a chat GPT response,
- 17:38Ejaaz: I have the option up here, and you might notice a few tabs, to click search.
- 17:44Ejaaz: And suddenly I have my Google search interface that I missed and that I wanted
- 17:48Ejaaz: to engage with and select a link for myself.
- 17:51Ejaaz: But it also gives you the image option as well, which is, again, very typical of Google.
- 17:56Ejaaz: Or I can look at any videos of people who have done reviews of headsets for me.
- 18:00Ejaaz: So it's not straying too far from things that I'm comfortable with if I find
- 18:06Ejaaz: myself wanting to use those things again.
- 18:09Ejaaz: Do you have any immediate reactions to this, Josh?
- 18:11Josh: Yeah, well, my first reaction was, oh my god imagine 800
- 18:14Josh: million people using this product that is 800 million people less
- 18:17Josh: using google search so that felt like a big deal
- 18:20Josh: but now seeing that you can actually kind of invoke google
- 18:23Josh: search results which i'm assuming populates three of those four small
- 18:26Josh: tabs it softens the blow slightly but
- 18:29Josh: i imagine that's got to be transitory right like
- 18:32Josh: surely they don't want to continue to funnel traffic through
- 18:35Josh: google if they don't need to um to me like this
- 18:38Josh: whole thing it just feels kind of like the one of the oldest plays
- 18:41Josh: in the books right like you have product market fit with a single killer
- 18:44Josh: use case you have the best ai and then you just kind of like vertically integrate
- 18:47Josh: and then horizontally expand until you control the interface layer itself so
- 18:51Josh: it's like open ai again we saw this with um chat gpt first then we saw with
- 18:56Josh: recently with um what is the oh my gosh with sora and the image generation and
- 19:01Josh: now it's another example where they're
- 19:05Josh: It's only a matter of time to me until this platform grows into the life OS
- 19:08Josh: that we mentioned before and then displaces a lot of the services like Google.
- 19:12Josh: I mean, the demo that you just did with the search, it's pretty closely replicable
- 19:16Josh: through the desktop application, but you're already here and this is how you're
- 19:20Josh: used to using the internet.
- 19:22Josh: So the fact that it could just inject itself right into it is really cool.
- 19:25Josh: And we're checking back in on this demo for getting a reservation.
- 19:28Josh: It looks like it's going pretty well. I know this restaurant.
- 19:30Ejaaz: I have a massive grin on my face right now because although it didn't know this
- 19:35Ejaaz: about me, this is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood.
- 19:38Ejaaz: Aurora Williamsburg, great Italian food for anyone who happens to find themselves in Brooklyn.
- 19:43Ejaaz: And it is reviewing another great restaurant as well.
- 19:46Ejaaz: And what I'm noticing is it's at the stage where it's condensed a bunch of the
- 19:51Ejaaz: top restaurants in my neighborhood and it's checking out reservation availability
- 19:55Ejaaz: right now. This is something I despise when I'm looking for food,
- 19:59Ejaaz: Josh. I love eating the food.
- 20:01Ejaaz: I love ordering the food. I don't really like doing all the reservations.
- 20:04Ejaaz: It's going on the open table. It's finding out whether there's a time slot for
- 20:07Ejaaz: me. It's going on resi. It's doing the same kind of thing.
- 20:10Ejaaz: And I like that I can actively see its thinking in real time. That's awesome.
- 20:15Josh: Okay, so I guess while that thinks, are there any final thoughts on ChatGPT?
- 20:20Josh: Maybe while I ask you, EJS, because this is a question I'm asking myself,
- 20:23Josh: is do you see yourself actually using this product?
- 20:29Ejaaz: No, not beyond a week. And I'm just going to be honest because I had a similar
- 20:34Ejaaz: experience when I was using Perplexity's AI browser that they released not too
- 20:39Ejaaz: long ago called Comet. We also reviewed that on the show here.
- 20:43Ejaaz: I used it pretty actively, but I realized that the thing that it was lacking
- 20:47Ejaaz: the most was it didn't know enough about me.
- 20:49Ejaaz: And maybe OpenAI's browser changes that for me, right? It has all the history
- 20:53Ejaaz: that I need to know, but I don't think it's good enough.
- 20:57Ejaaz: Like, typically they say, if you want to introduce a new product that competes
- 21:01Ejaaz: with an old version of it, it needs to be at least 10 times better than it.
- 21:06Ejaaz: I don't think this is 10 times better. Do you, Josh?
- 21:10Josh: I don't. I don't think it is. But I'm torn on whether or not I will use it.
- 21:15Josh: And I'm actually leaning more towards yes than no this time.
- 21:20Josh: And as like one of the biggest perplexity haters, I really think that this is
- 21:26Josh: different purely due to memory.
- 21:28Josh: Like ChatGPT really knows a lot about me. And what was interesting is during
- 21:33Josh: the onboarding flow, when you first download the browser and you get set up,
- 21:36Josh: is they give you a really easy option to click to transfer your Chrome history
- 21:40Josh: over to this new browser.
- 21:42Josh: So in one click, you've kind of transferred all of your history,
- 21:44Josh: all of your tabs, all your favorites, your bookmarks, your reading list,
- 21:47Josh: which is what I did. And then you kind of have to re-sign into the accounts again.
- 21:51Josh: But suddenly you do have this companion that kind of knows everything about
- 21:55Josh: you. It's just always there.
- 21:57Josh: And I want to say, I don't know. Like, I think the answer, you know what?
- 22:01Josh: If I'm being honest with myself, I think the answer is also no.
- 22:04Josh: I think one month from now, there's no way I'm using this browser.
- 22:06Josh: But I want to give this a shot.
- 22:08Josh: And I think it's too early to tell for sure. But I think you're right in the
- 22:11Josh: sense that I'm very happy with Google Chrome, and I'm very happy with my ChatGPT
- 22:15Josh: desktop application and my web app and my mobile app.
- 22:19Josh: So it's going to take a lot to replace that.
- 22:22Ejaaz: So here's the thing, right? We probably use the web browser for two types of activities.
- 22:30Ejaaz: One is work, right? Editing docs, coming up with agendas, researching a bunch
- 22:36Ejaaz: of things on X, YouTube, and then, you know, recording a video,
- 22:40Ejaaz: doing all these different types of things.
- 22:41Ejaaz: The other side is the leisure side of things, right?
- 22:44Ejaaz: Where you kind of want to be browsing and searching for your own things.
- 22:48Ejaaz: You're kind of like a discoverer on YouTube or like finding the right video
- 22:51Ejaaz: to watch whilst you read, right?
- 22:53Ejaaz: I don't know how much Atlas as an AI browser can add towards the leisure side
- 23:00Ejaaz: of things. I kind of want to do that myself.
- 23:03Ejaaz: Now, where I can see it actually being active here is,
- 23:07Ejaaz: to your point, if it knows everything about my browser history,
- 23:10Ejaaz: but it can do something with it,
- 23:12Ejaaz: aka imagine me opening up this browser and it has a bunch of tabs opened for
- 23:18Ejaaz: me for things that I want to read on my Reddit account for a particular post, or on X,
- 23:23Ejaaz: it's kind of opened up a post that it knows I'm going to like and want to start
- 23:27Ejaaz: my day off with, that could be quite cool.
- 23:29Ejaaz: And I could see that being pretty
- 23:30Ejaaz: sticky, but that's just me being hopeful on the work side of things.
- 23:35Ejaaz: I would love if I could just wake up in the morning and I have like a neat,
- 23:38Ejaaz: concise summary of all the latest AI things that have happened overnight whilst I've been asleep.
- 23:42Ejaaz: That's probably a simple thing that I can ask the agent to do.
- 23:45Ejaaz: But again, I'm being hopeful.
- 23:46Ejaaz: I want it to be proactive for me before I can like kind of commit to saying,
- 23:51Ejaaz: yeah, I'm going to use this as my new browser.
- 23:53Josh: Yeah, the leisure versus productivity thing. I actually brought up with Arvind
- 23:57Josh: on an episode that we did talking about perplexity.
- 24:00Josh: And I would recommend everyone goes and watch it because it gives some context
- 24:03Josh: on the thesis for the browser.
- 24:05Josh: And I think you're right in a lot of cases, Ejaz. And also, I very strongly
- 24:09Josh: believe this is just a stepping stone because the way that they're going about
- 24:12Josh: it, it feels like OpenAI is kind of going for the life OS, whereas perplexity
- 24:17Josh: is kind of going for the browser.
- 24:18Josh: And the browser very much feels like an incremental stepping
- 24:21Josh: stone where the reason right now the browser is better that
- 24:24Josh: we were talking about is because your accounts are logged in because it has
- 24:26Josh: the history because it has the context and if all that if all those hurdles
- 24:31Josh: went away um i think the most interesting and compelling part about this product
- 24:34Josh: is the agent feature the fact that it can go and do things without you and that's
- 24:39Josh: what we just saw here it looks like you do actually have a reservation you guys
- 24:43Josh: you have two minutes to complete it are you going to do that i
- 24:45Ejaaz: Am yeah Yeah, yeah. So my agent came back to me and said, hey,
- 24:49Ejaaz: I found a good restaurant, Soraki, which is a great Greek spot near me.
- 24:54Ejaaz: I'm holding the reservation for you for four people. Do you want me to go ahead and book it?
- 24:58Ejaaz: And it is basically going ahead and doing that. So all in all useful.
- 25:03Josh: Okay, well, I'm going to remove the screen share before it shows your phone
- 25:05Josh: number because we don't want everyone calling the line.
- 25:07Josh: But I think that that probably concludes the ChatGPT browser episode,
- 25:11Josh: right? Like it's, it is cool. It is impressive.
- 25:14Josh: It is an incremental stepping stone but maybe not the killer product that
- 25:21Josh: some people would imagine.
- 25:22Ejaaz: Yeah. Yeah. I'm curious to hear what others have to say about this.
- 25:27Ejaaz: I mean, you've just seen everything.
- 25:28Ejaaz: We've given you the entire breakdown of all the cool features.
- 25:31Ejaaz: We've shown you all the demos about how it actually looks, how it works.
- 25:34Ejaaz: It's available to anyone who's on macOS right now. Windows coming soon right after.
- 25:40Ejaaz: Let us know what you think. Are we wrong? Like, is there something useful that
- 25:44Ejaaz: is cool for you guys to use and we're not seeing let us know in the comments
- 25:49Ejaaz: let us know give us some feedback and and maybe we can kind of give a review on it later on.
- 25:53Josh: Yeah just looking for killer use cases if there's anything
- 25:56Josh: we're missing there's also a funny thing on the availability of
- 25:59Josh: this ejaz where it's available to free plus and premium users but if you are
- 26:03Josh: a free user and you allow the atlas browser to become your default browser they
- 26:08Josh: will unlock seven days of extended limits on messaging file uploads data analysis
- 26:13Josh: and image generation on chat gpt atlas so there's a lot of growth Hex embedded in this.
- 26:17Josh: It's very clear they're doing this to just kind of get as many people into the
- 26:21Josh: platform as possible and get more of that platform lock.
- 26:24Josh: And it's doing a good job. I mean, this is by all means a good product.
- 26:27Josh: It is in line with, I think, everything else that's on the market.
- 26:30Josh: And we'll just follow along and see how things go from here.
- 26:32Josh: But that has been another episode of the Limitless Podcast. Thank you so much for watching.
- 26:37Josh: And we'll be back in a couple of days for the roundup of the week. I'll see you guys then.
