- 0:00Speaker 1: Looks like Maggie wants a story.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Two.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Oh, the phantom head mom is in that book the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Bible of right wing Losers.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but the guy on the book jacket is one
- 0:12Speaker 3: sexy slice of beefcake. Four finger Discount, dude.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Welcome to four Fingered Discount, the podcast where we discuss
- 0:37Speaker 2: four great women in a manicure on Nando.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And we're just jumping around into it much like this episode.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm guy. By the way, you ever had a manicure
- 0:44Speaker 1: or a petticure? I have? Indeed, Yeah, there was a
- 0:47Speaker 1: oh yeah, there was certainly stage I think in the
- 0:49Speaker 1: early to mid two thousands when it was like, you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: who's gonna have manicures and pedicures? Men? Some might say
- 0:55Speaker 1: this is a moving society forward. You know, I'm revealing that,
- 0:59Speaker 1: hey and women we're not quite that different. Really, it
- 1:02Speaker 1: was just a money drubbing exercise. Via It all concerned
- 1:04Speaker 1: us like, how can we double the market? Then tidy
- 1:08Speaker 1: up your nails.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I still file my nails and stuff. Now you're gotta
- 1:10Speaker 2: keep your stuff tidy?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Well absolutely, oh god, yeah, I mean listeners of the
- 1:14Speaker 1: show will be aware that I'm not a fan of
- 1:16Speaker 1: fingernail stuff. You know, you could feel a hell of hangnails.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Sometimes get caught on something. No, it doesn't really hurt
- 1:21Speaker 1: so much as like who the shiver shiver up the spine.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So yeah, I got to keep your shit neat and tidy.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So yeah, I have gone through many and nail file
- 1:28Speaker 1: men in emery board all that kind of stuff. So
- 1:31Speaker 1: I've had my share of manicures and pedicules, but these
- 1:33Speaker 1: days I tend to it's a more of a DIY job.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I'm not farming it out to the pros.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Thank you everybody who was watching us on YouTube, make
- 1:40Speaker 2: sure you hit that subscribe button, give us a thumbs
- 1:42Speaker 2: up and comment blind tell us what you thought of
- 1:43Speaker 2: this episode as well. We'd love to hear from each

- 1:56Speaker 2: free access to this show and all the other shows
- 1:58Speaker 2: we do, as well as the exclusive show to do
- 2:00Speaker 2: exclusive for Patreon, but for great women and a manicure,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I have made it no secret that I do not
- 2:06Speaker 2: like these episodes, the ones where they just get a
- 2:08Speaker 2: classic women that and the ones that are about a
- 2:12Speaker 2: historical tale and they just wax Simpson's characters in there
- 2:16Speaker 2: without really tweaking anything, and it's just Queen Elizabeth is
- 2:20Speaker 2: now Patty or now Selma and snow White is now Lisa.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I'm like, and and yes, please do something with this
- 2:27Speaker 1: is a nice starting point, but you have to move
- 2:29Speaker 1: a little further down the road. Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 2: So I like the idea of this episode, the fact
- 2:33Speaker 2: that it was it was airing on Mother's Day is
- 2:35Speaker 2: to celebrate women. It makes sense, right, and I love
- 2:38Speaker 2: the idea behind it, but it just does nothing for me.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I'm watching this going they're essentially just retail on the
- 2:44Speaker 2: same story without any tweaks, And I guess the only
- 2:47Speaker 2: positive here is that maybe it brings awareness to viewers
- 2:50Speaker 2: of about historical figures.
- 2:52Speaker 1: They may not have known about, or something quite possibly
- 2:55Speaker 1: even the third one in this where it's basically a
- 2:59Speaker 1: riff Macbeth, right, Yeah, yeah, not really all that women's centric,
- 3:04Speaker 1: even though Lady Macbeth is kind of a famous character
- 3:06Speaker 1: and kind of an archetype in that regard. But Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It honestly just felt as we were saying, yeah, we'll
- 3:12Speaker 1: take existing historical events, put Simpson's characters, not even put
- 3:16Speaker 1: a clock in it. No, we've put a bustard clock
- 3:18Speaker 1: in an unwound clock. I suppose it does provide some
- 3:23Speaker 1: I guess historical context or something like that, but just
- 3:27Speaker 1: not that interesting. But for me, the point of this
- 3:29Speaker 1: should be to celebrate women. Correct. Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 2: However, I feel like, for the most part, a lot
- 3:34Speaker 2: of the women portrayed in this episode came across quite negatively,
- 3:38Speaker 2: almost like the men were writing the jokes at the
- 3:40Speaker 2: expense of the women. And it wasn't written by well,
- 3:43Speaker 2: it was written by Valentina al Gaza's her first Simpsons
- 3:47Speaker 2: episode that she wrote. But as we all know, the
- 3:49Speaker 2: writer's name on the episode isn't the only person who
- 3:51Speaker 2: writes it. And we know that the Simpsons writer's room
- 3:54Speaker 2: is very male centric. True, a lot of the gags
- 3:57Speaker 2: and this came across like, oh, this is a joke
- 3:59Speaker 2: that men would find funny if they were watching it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's like the haha the old chain gags?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Right, women, am I right? Exactly?
- 4:06Speaker 2: So, for example, Lisa, she's playing snow White, she's not
- 4:09Speaker 2: actually a very nice person in this. She laughs when
- 4:11Speaker 2: the turtle gets oh yeah, she tells off the bearfoot
- 4:15Speaker 2: when it was trying to help.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But you go outside as it's like, you're not actually
- 4:18Speaker 1: nice either. I'm glad you remembered all this stuff from
- 4:20Speaker 1: the Lisa's snow White segment, because obviously this is one
- 4:23Speaker 1: where I kind of zoned out a fair bit. You have.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Queen Elizabeth is mocked for being ugly on numerous occasions.
- 4:29Speaker 2: She's hairy, she's like she's Bao wolf that kind of thing.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It's like, okay, so you're mocking Queen Elizabeth the first
- 4:34Speaker 2: because she was not good looking. And on that note,
- 4:37Speaker 2: Agnes Skinner reading the Fountainhead and the author is in
- 4:41Speaker 2: round and Agnes calls her a man.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, not great.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I mean, for a episode it's about to be celebrating women,
- 4:47Speaker 2: there's a lot of jokes that feel like men going
- 4:51Speaker 2: like you said women, mr Right.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah. The last one's a complicated one because an Rand
- 4:55Speaker 1: is kind of a polarizing figure in a lot of ways.
- 4:58Speaker 1: We'll get to this when we get to this, but
- 4:59Speaker 1: you right, I mean it's not something that I'd really
- 5:03Speaker 1: given a lot of thought to I guess was in
- 5:05Speaker 1: the back of my mind. It's like, yeah, for something
- 5:07Speaker 1: that's supposedly celebrating women, this is all not all that celebratory.
- 5:11Speaker 1: This is a little bit mean spirited in some ways.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So the first one, they're taking the mickey out of
- 5:16Speaker 2: Salma's appearance as Queen Elizabeth first in Snow White, they're
- 5:20Speaker 2: talking about how hot the weather girl is. In the
- 5:23Speaker 2: third one week or the fountain Head when we get
- 5:25Speaker 2: the the mention about the third one is Macbeth. The
- 5:29Speaker 2: third was Macbeth. For the fourth one, sorry, because there's
- 5:31Speaker 2: four action. This is the first episode they ever have
- 5:32Speaker 2: four stories out an extra year, which is why it's
- 5:34Speaker 2: four great women and a manicure, which I feel like
- 5:36Speaker 2: that just did that so they can take off four
- 5:38Speaker 2: weddings at a funeral.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 2: A film which I still haven't seen. Really Yeah, okay, then,
- 5:42Speaker 2: but I like it, I think so.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's my favorite out of those Richard Curtis
- 5:47Speaker 1: sort of British rom coms of the nineties. Everyone seems
- 5:49Speaker 1: to like the Actually and notting Hill. Yeah, Boardings have
- 5:53Speaker 1: been really sort of kickstarted it.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Anything I know about it is it has see you
- 5:57Speaker 2: a little of prefer that's my best friend's wedding.
- 5:59Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It was wet, wet, wet. I feel like when I
- 6:01Speaker 2: was all around that's in that one. Yeah, I know
- 6:03Speaker 2: because the film clip for the song has clips from
- 6:05Speaker 2: the movie in it.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. See a little prefer.
- 6:08Speaker 2: You and all seeing it around the table.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It is they're talking about what's his name, dum mulroney
- 6:13Speaker 1: was on the publicity circuit recently. I think he's got
- 6:15Speaker 1: to show out on Netflix or one of those. And now,
- 6:19Speaker 1: whether this was just clickbait or as our friend Matt
- 6:22Speaker 1: Graney has referred to it, trick bait, that's why it's
- 6:25Speaker 1: Matt Graning what the Lord saying something about? Oh yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: this talk about it my best when, my best when's
- 6:31Speaker 1: threading my best friend's wedding sequel. Now, whether or not
- 6:36Speaker 1: this would actually come off or not, who knows. We
- 6:38Speaker 1: don't happen. Gil Moore too, that's for sure. That's for sure.
- 6:41Speaker 1: You enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. Yeah, we'll talk about
- 6:43Speaker 1: it at a later date. Yeah, yeah, that could happen.
- 6:45Speaker 1: My best friend is my best Friend's wedding? Good movie.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Okay, Well, we talked about the Beth one before though,
- 6:51Speaker 2: how it just feels like again just retreading me Beth.
- 6:53Speaker 2: One thing I will give it is I did like
- 6:55Speaker 2: at least that it wasn't just them in historical times
- 6:58Speaker 2: or it was a modern heading doing them at best play. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 2: there was a bit, there was a spin on that one.
- 7:03Speaker 2: At least it's Macbeth the story transposed onto Macbeth a
- 7:07Speaker 2: production of Macbeth the play. Yeah, but again Marge comes
- 7:11Speaker 2: across as negative in that episode.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Well that's true. All women are not good in these stories.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Except for Maggie, except Maggie in the final one.
- 7:17Speaker 1: That's true. But maybe that's the message in that, you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: we can't have if you're gonna have stories and power,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Well that's a gi no, no, no no. If you're
- 7:28Speaker 1: going to have stories about women, they can't all be
- 7:30Speaker 1: like positivity. Yeah, they can't all be positive because you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: women of human beings just lead the misty, be prone
- 7:37Speaker 1: to negative actions and negative emotions. Whether you want to
- 7:43Speaker 1: bring that wholly to deservers and put that completely under
- 7:45Speaker 1: the spotlight as you do in these episodes, well that's
- 7:47Speaker 1: another thing altogether.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But they try to end the first one with a
- 7:51Speaker 2: message of strength and positivity, saying she goes, I don't
- 7:54Speaker 2: need a man because I've got England.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But they ended with mogoan. Yeah you tell yourself that.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well yeah, but again, who's saying this? It's mo Yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 1: the cartman theory exactly that. But is everyone going to
- 8:07Speaker 1: take that away from from that particular or from four
- 8:10Speaker 1: great great women and a manicure in general?
- 8:12Speaker 2: I just think if I was a kid watching this,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I would go, that's why I said women should shouldn't
- 8:16Speaker 2: have hairy legs, women shouldn't look like this. That's that's
- 8:18Speaker 2: the takeaway from that story for me as a kid. Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Essentially, if you're not that worldly wise or anything like that,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you're probably going to go, well, all these characters are
- 8:25Speaker 1: saying and it must be the truth, yea, even if
- 8:28Speaker 1: they are sort of dodgy characters or you know, sketchy individuals.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I did think the Big beeth one could almost have
- 8:33Speaker 2: been a trance of horror segment.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It felt that way, didn't it. Yeah. Well, Macbeth is
- 8:38Speaker 1: generally regarded as one of Shakespeare's going to be more
- 8:40Speaker 1: gruesome plays, even though yeah, old Bill Billy Shakes knew
- 8:46Speaker 1: what the punters wanted. He tended to throw in a
- 8:47Speaker 1: bit of gore in there.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I had I put this on because I was going
- 8:50Speaker 2: to watch it Holly at home. I thought, oh, four
- 8:53Speaker 2: great women in a manicure for women.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You can watch this one. People stay getting stad and
- 8:58Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, what are we doing here, guys,
- 9:03Speaker 1: it's a daddy fail. Actually, that's not a daddy fail
- 9:05Speaker 1: on your partner. I was I supposed to know. No,
- 9:07Speaker 1: they didn't have the thing beforehand. This this episode was
- 9:11Speaker 1: made in a time of different attitudes, as they tend
- 9:15Speaker 1: to have before certain things these days. Like I think
- 9:18Speaker 1: there was one that was made in the nineties where
- 9:19Speaker 1: it was kind of like, this is very much of
- 9:20Speaker 1: its times, like the nineties. Come on, man, he my
- 9:25Speaker 1: favorite favorite members of the episode, I had one or two. Actually,
- 9:29Speaker 1: this is not even a backhanded compliment. It's just a
- 9:31Speaker 1: non compliment. When Lisa was telling her snow White Store,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I've written in a cool story, Lisa, because it really was.
- 9:38Speaker 2: No. I do always get a chuckle though out of
- 9:42Speaker 2: seeing The Simpsons back then taking the mickey out of
- 9:45Speaker 2: Disney saying you can't talk about that because it's Disney,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and I'm like, you guys, knew.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I liked that there was an English horse named Tea Biscus,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and I thought that was kind of scratches trivia question. Oh, okay,
- 9:57Speaker 1: there we go. I just spent a whole lot of
- 10:00Speaker 1: time saying the word Macbeth. I mentioned a little while
- 10:03Speaker 1: ago that I've done some acting in my past. One
- 10:05Speaker 1: of the things around theaters is you're not supposed to
- 10:07Speaker 1: call it Macbeth. You're supposed to call it the Scottish play.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Apparently it's bad luck if you say the word Macbeth
- 10:12Speaker 1: in a theater. In a theater CA. It's kind of
- 10:14Speaker 1: like the break of leg kind of deal it is. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I mean you're not meant to say good luck to
- 10:17Speaker 1: someone say break a leg as weirdos. But I did
- 10:22Speaker 1: not know that. What did you learn in this episode?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Dand with cut nor manor of corners here? I thought
- 10:29Speaker 1: during that Scottish Play segment had some really good visuals.
- 10:34Speaker 1: When doctor Hibbitt was being taken.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Out with the with the laughing at it, that's in
- 10:38Speaker 2: my favorite moments because I've gone this feels like a
- 10:41Speaker 2: final destination death. It's horrific in not a gory way.
- 10:44Speaker 2: But he knows he's dying. He can't control he can't
- 10:48Speaker 2: control the laughter, and he's trying to open the window.
- 10:50Speaker 2: He's trying to and he can't open it. And it's
- 10:51Speaker 2: like the realization, Oh, I'm about to die and I
- 10:54Speaker 2: can't do anything about it.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I was like, this is terrifying. I thought it was
- 10:56Speaker 1: really well mate. Yeah, and I don't know, we're not
- 11:00Speaker 1: really it's not really a spoiler or anything like that.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But in the final installment there's no spoilers and historical tales.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I guess not well, but I must admit when I
- 11:10Speaker 1: first heard Maggie speaking Jodi Foster, yeah, well yeah, I
- 11:14Speaker 1: was like, wow, this is really good. Who is it?
- 11:16Speaker 1: I mean, this is familiar to me? And then you
- 11:18Speaker 1: get to the closing crease Jody Foster, it was those
- 11:22Speaker 1: all was really good casting, uh and tenerally just really
- 11:25Speaker 1: good performance, good line reading by Jodie Foster.
- 11:28Speaker 2: In that regard, I really liked her delivery of have
- 11:30Speaker 2: you stab Tai? I liked Homer's here, just the relatable
- 11:35Speaker 2: sent moment of I can't remember what he said unless
- 11:39Speaker 2: you're not a.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Man, No, dear, I'm a mandy. Well you already did
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know sort of what we what you learn from
- 11:46Speaker 1: this episode. I know we do that after the review,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but I might jump ahead and do mine now. Is
- 11:51Speaker 1: that the play Macbeth is essentially whatever you see, sweetie,
- 11:55Speaker 1: because weg Beth. There's this noted wartime general and all
- 11:59Speaker 1: that basically a big old simp. You know. His wife
- 12:02Speaker 1: is just saying, you could be king math, you could
- 12:07Speaker 1: be rulining this joint if you're willing to go the
- 12:09Speaker 1: extra yards, Like why don't you call that guy about
- 12:11Speaker 1: that job, bringing a little more scratch? And so it's
- 12:14Speaker 1: like it was a bit ridiculous.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It's like, oh, I see his people, you need to
- 12:18Speaker 2: kill now, And I'm like, Jesus, well God check me
- 12:23Speaker 2: Beath good play?
- 12:24Speaker 1: Yeah, not not not not Beth. What's it called. Well,
- 12:27Speaker 1: we're not in a theater, we're in a recording studio.
- 12:30Speaker 1: We're we're in a creative space. We can say good
- 12:32Speaker 1: luck and nothing will happen. There's the thumbnail. But those
- 12:38Speaker 1: were my favorite moments. Do you have any others?
- 12:40Speaker 2: I know you've touched on both of mine and plus no, dear,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I'm a man deer.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I keep forgetting the name of the cartoon that actually
- 12:47Speaker 1: has their voice. I don't know.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It's like droopy dog or something that's droopy dog. I
- 12:50Speaker 2: know it's yeah, yeah it is droopy is his name?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Droopy dog dog?
- 12:55Speaker 2: It sounds like I'm Huckleberry Finn as well or your
- 12:57Speaker 2: Huckleberry hound Hounberry finth.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Yes, hug, it's a little more smooth. Yeah, I was
- 13:03Speaker 1: so gay. So droopy dog said his name, Drew Piers,
- 13:10Speaker 1: have a look droopy dog? Is he Droopy? Is just
- 13:12Speaker 1: his name? Droupy? Yeah? Yeah, electric care.
- 13:18Speaker 2: But for me it's always the I think it's last
- 13:21Speaker 2: weeks at the Springfield? Whereas it with him?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Next question? You there eating the paste? All right?
- 13:29Speaker 2: My first question for you is stricker from the record.
- 13:31Speaker 2: You've already got a tea biscuit. My second question is
- 13:33Speaker 2: what is Krabby's occupation?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Oh well, I know that Krabby is one of the
- 13:38Speaker 1: seven Little People. I've got no idea what his occupation was. Marketing.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Remember that he says, you're marketing? Why do you even
- 13:45Speaker 1: have a pick axe? You don't remember this? You didn't?
- 13:47Speaker 1: Did you watch the episode? So I watched the episode,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm not. I covered my butt a little earlier by
- 13:53Speaker 1: saying I did zone out during this one, because I
- 13:55Speaker 1: quite frank there wasn't that interesting.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Honestly, there was a lot of moments here where I
- 13:58Speaker 2: had to push pause and go back. So I've been
- 14:00Speaker 2: I realized I was watching and not even taking any notes.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Not even nothing was absorbed into my mind.
- 14:04Speaker 1: It was just what just happened. Yeah. I certainly took notes,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but one of them wasn't Crabby's occupation. So you've got
- 14:11Speaker 1: me that that time around? Uh, how many ships are
- 14:14Speaker 1: in the Spanish ahmada? Oh is this just both counting
- 14:17Speaker 1: on screen or does he say it? Oh? They say it.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm going to say twenty four and you'd be incorrect. Twelve,
- 14:22Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty. Oh shit, that's a bigger Marty.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But it's a little little ship. Yeah, yeah, which they
- 14:27Speaker 1: then have to turn the real boats. Yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Your next question, what was Marge washing out of the leotard?
- 14:32Speaker 2: If you oh, it was go getting to show business.
- 14:34Speaker 2: If you don't want to wash this out of Lithard's,
- 14:36Speaker 2: that's correct. That's what my wife always has on her pizza.
- 14:39Speaker 2: But that you would ever know that. But it's just
- 14:40Speaker 2: a fun fact about Dane's life. Pepperoni, it's barbecue saucebecue
- 14:44Speaker 2: saw oh, and I'm not a big fan of barbecue sauce,
- 14:46Speaker 2: and Nicola knows one way to get me not pitching
- 14:48Speaker 2: her pizza is to a get barbecue sauce and then
- 14:50Speaker 2: say companies have extra barbecue sauce on top, just to.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Make sure that motherfucker doesn't touch my pizza. Well to
- 14:56Speaker 1: quote a movie that we both enjoy and a a
- 15:00Speaker 1: picture of the new name challenge, clever girl. Yeah, clever
- 15:04Speaker 1: girl indeed.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and she also does just for the final kicker,
- 15:07Speaker 2: just throw some pineapple on the way you're at it.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I don't eat pineapple and pizza, dude.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I don't mind Hawaiian.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I'm I'm quite partial to that barbecae chicken pizza with pineapple. No, no,
- 15:16Speaker 2: she's just sweet on top of sweet and top of sweet.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Now she's just messing with you, man. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 2: I know it was. I watched it the other day.
- 15:23Speaker 2: She was picking the pineapple off, and you asked it
- 15:26Speaker 2: was a bit too much pine You just ordered pineapple.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I wouldn't eat your pizza. I know what you're doing.
- 15:31Speaker 1: A woman and well played. Homer bribes cheap Wigham with
- 15:37Speaker 1: dry cleaning vouches. How much off? Oh, I'm gonna say
- 15:42Speaker 1: twenty percent? Was it? You're right twenty percent. Yeah, I'll
- 15:45Speaker 1: give you one moment, a random thing.
- 15:48Speaker 2: No, it was to set up the fact that Margor
- 15:49Speaker 2: was telling the story about a woman who was being
- 15:51Speaker 2: held back by a shitty husband.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I have one more question if you want,
- 15:56Speaker 1: who does Lenny play in the production of McBeth. It's Lennox,
- 15:58Speaker 1: It is Lennox. Indeed. Yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I actually one of my favorite moments was lew and Eddie.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Who will play the two unspeaking, non speaking Yeah, they're
- 16:07Speaker 2: still better than Homer. All right, Well that is all
- 16:09Speaker 2: our trivia question. There's time to give some shout out

- 17:02Speaker 2: So, the original air date of Four Great Women and
- 17:05Speaker 2: a Manicure was May tenth, two thousand and nine. I
- 17:08Speaker 2: have not done the blockbuster. I feel it is the
- 17:10Speaker 2: time we've been to pat out this episode because it's
- 17:12Speaker 2: not gonna be much dissecting done here.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So let's do it. What do you think were the
- 17:15Speaker 1: top films at the US box office in two thousand
- 17:17Speaker 1: and nine. Let's have a look.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Give me a little hint, give you a little hint.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Let's go scroll down two two thousand and nine. Doing
- 17:23Speaker 2: it right now. It was the air date was May tenth,
- 17:26Speaker 2: Mother's Day. I feel it is gonna be a Mother's
- 17:27Speaker 2: Day film of some kind. Do you think maybe or they're.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Not that they clever?
- 17:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Quite possibly. I mean they've made a movie called Mother's Day.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so the number one film at the Oh no,
- 17:36Speaker 2: it was a comic book based film, a graphic novel
- 17:39Speaker 2: based film. Some would say, Okay, then I'm gonna say
- 17:43Speaker 2: Watchman correct, well done, Yes, number one at the US
- 17:46Speaker 2: box office. I remember going to the movies to watch that.
- 17:48Speaker 2: One of my best friends was obsessed with the film.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I've never watched it since.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It's been a while since i've watched, but I do
- 17:54Speaker 1: recall that. I think everyone was a everyone.
- 17:58Speaker 2: All these comic book notes were kind of like Watchman,
- 18:01Speaker 2: best common book ever. No one knows about it, that's
- 18:03Speaker 2: why it's cool. Well kind of yeah, I mean yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 2: very much. I think comics they're not just for kids anymore.
- 18:11Speaker 2: People have been trying to make it into a movie.
- 18:12Speaker 2: For goodness is how long all these interesting people were involved.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And it was Zack Snyder hot off his Daughter of
- 18:18Speaker 2: the Dead remake and three hundred. It was like this
- 18:20Speaker 2: could be interesting before Zack Snyder became Zack Snyder. Yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 2: it was like there's good, no great, it was pretty good.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I thought it was not bad at all, had some
- 18:28Speaker 1: really really good casting in it, and some interesting ways
- 18:31Speaker 1: of bringing the Watchman story to the screen.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna I apologize that was March so my bad.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Oh so Watchman worth It's worth watching.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Certainly worth checking out, but certainly not the right answer. No,
- 18:40Speaker 1: there's particular question.
- 18:42Speaker 2: No, but the number one film at the usbox officuly
- 18:44Speaker 2: when this episode aired was a film starting your favorite
- 18:47Speaker 2: Chris A Pine Pine It'll be star trest I track
- 18:51Speaker 2: the first one, Yes, yeah, a really good movie that
- 18:53Speaker 2: is pretty good.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Number two X Men Origins Wolverine, no good movie. And
- 18:57Speaker 2: number three, which was number two last week, was Ghost Girlfriends.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Past Alright, alright, Matthew McConaughey.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, we're touched on those two films. Star Trek though,
- 19:06Speaker 2: worth watching if you're if you're not a Star Trek fan.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I'm not a Star Trek fan. I know nothing about
- 19:10Speaker 2: Star Trek, and I enjoyed the movie. A really good
- 19:12Speaker 2: example of a good reboot. Yeah yeah, the next Tube Man,
- 19:16Speaker 2: they were all right. They were made because the first
- 19:19Speaker 2: time was so successful. I'm assuming that's why many A
- 19:21Speaker 2: sequels made. Dando exactly, you fool, how the world works.

- 19:54Speaker 2: al Gaza as we said, and directed by Raymond s Percy.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Guest starred Jodie Foster as Maggie sim and the catch
- 20:00Speaker 2: gig are. French artist chisels the Simpsons out of a
- 20:03Speaker 2: stone block then turns the sculpture into a general statue.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Apparently the commentary only has Mac graning, Wow, well it's
- 20:10Speaker 2: season twenty because this is the thing they released, so
- 20:13Speaker 2: they've done all the wafe to season twenty now. But
- 20:15Speaker 2: season twenty got released on DVD after like season thirteen
- 20:18Speaker 2: got released on seven Look, they jumped straight too when
- 20:20Speaker 2: season twenty came out. When it was first on TV,
- 20:22Speaker 2: they released the DVD's. Then everyone was like, what about
- 20:26Speaker 2: all the other teen seasons, and they're like, we'll get
- 20:28Speaker 2: to them, we'll get to them. So I never actually
- 20:30Speaker 2: bought season twenty so I was like, yeah, I'm not
- 20:32Speaker 2: interested in that. But they do have audio commentary, so
- 20:34Speaker 2: that's the that's the audio commentaries that I still had
- 20:36Speaker 2: never listened to Mac Green doing a commentary by himself.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I'm always I mean, I wonder what you have to say.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not too sure, but yeah, So if you
- 20:46Speaker 2: want to hear a man talk about this episode, it's
- 20:48Speaker 2: Matt Ground.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It's by the dvdaes at this one, or you could
- 20:50Speaker 1: just listen to this podcast. We had two men.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Yeah, what you think of all the episodes? Why would
- 20:55Speaker 2: you get like Julie Cavr and get the women on
- 20:57Speaker 2: board for this at least this commentary?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:58Speaker 2: I would think so, think so and dare It doesn't matter.
- 21:01Speaker 2: So the episode kicks off with margin Lisa arriving at
- 21:04Speaker 2: the finger looking good snail Sale, which I thought was
- 21:07Speaker 2: a clever title. Colonel Sanders out looking at his fingers
- 21:10Speaker 2: admiring them. I remember when I was in school, and
- 21:13Speaker 2: this is just you know, you had to be there, right,
- 21:15Speaker 2: They used to say to a guy. And if you
- 21:19Speaker 2: did this, you're a dude. Yeah, if you did that,
- 21:22Speaker 2: you're a bit.
- 21:23Speaker 1: More lady on friends, right, was it friends? I think
- 21:27Speaker 1: friends did that? Okay, it would not surprise me. Yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 1: because I think Chandler might have done that. He might
- 21:33Speaker 1: have looked at the back of his hand as opposed
- 21:35Speaker 1: to folded his fingers over. It sounds like something that
- 21:36Speaker 1: would channel would be very bothered by it. I think
- 21:39Speaker 1: Joey might have brought up, like, it's not how you
- 21:41Speaker 1: do that, dude, You're gay. Friends had to be there,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you had to be there.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Lisa is there for a first many Petty and Lisa
- 21:49Speaker 2: asked if it's more important for women to be smart
- 21:51Speaker 2: and powerful and beautiful. She says, you can give me
- 21:53Speaker 2: all three good point March that's a point one, Yeah,
- 21:58Speaker 2: exactly right.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 2: So then we get the story of about Queen Elizabeth
- 22:00Speaker 2: the first She had it all except the most important thing.
- 22:03Speaker 2: You better not say, a man, No, her husband. So
- 22:06Speaker 2: they tell the story. It's fifteen eighty eight, four hundred
- 22:09Speaker 2: years before Kirk Gibson, who.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I have no idea who that is.
- 22:12Speaker 2: We hit a famous home run, obviously a famous baseball
- 22:14Speaker 2: player of some kind.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm guessing he plays baseball. Yes, yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Selma is playing the role of the Queen Elizabeth the
- 22:19Speaker 2: first in this she's awaiting suitors to be married to
- 22:22Speaker 2: I guess so she can pump out her son, so
- 22:25Speaker 2: that Moe whoever Moe is playing assistant of some kind,
- 22:28Speaker 2: adviser of some kind, that Moe doesn't have to need
- 22:30Speaker 2: to work for a broad no more. Prince Ralph of Austria,
- 22:34Speaker 2: who's just an idiot.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Excuse me? Can you believe it?
- 22:39Speaker 2: We get Julio of Spain, which is just Hank getting
- 22:42Speaker 2: to do his campy voice.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Doing his bird cage voice. Absolutely yeap.
- 22:46Speaker 2: He makes some gay quips hits on the Jester which
- 22:48Speaker 2: is crusty, and he gets annoyed when Elizabeth shuts him
- 22:50Speaker 2: down and talking to go away.
- 22:52Speaker 1: He says, you'll He'll get revenge. Then Homer. Who does
- 22:54Speaker 1: Homer play? It's Sir Walter ra Yes, yes, indeed best
- 22:57Speaker 1: known or perhaps he's got other things going for him,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but kind of embodied chivalry apparently because it might have
- 23:05Speaker 1: been a kiwi two here who sorry, que one, we
- 23:09Speaker 1: haven't got it the sequel yet. Ahm was going to
- 23:12Speaker 1: walk across like a puddle or something. So Reley takes
- 23:15Speaker 1: off his cape laser down over the water, so you
- 23:18Speaker 1: know her feet won't get wet. What a man smooth
- 23:20Speaker 1: mood by Walt.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, right, so yeah, so she's taken aback
- 23:24Speaker 2: by him or Marges anyway, Marge is just another worker there,
- 23:27Speaker 2: I'm guessing of some kind.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yeah, a chamber made. Yeah, your majesty, I have returned
- 23:33Speaker 1: from the New World with a gift this helpful and
- 23:36Speaker 1: slimming herb tobacco. If I ever have sex, this'll be great. Afterwards,
- 23:50Speaker 1: that was almost gonna be one of my favorite bits.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I thought that was not a bad line. Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Julio though, once the status of his Spanish amade amada sorry,
- 23:58Speaker 2: and Lenny shows him the mad and then he says,
- 24:01Speaker 2: where the real ones?
- 24:02Speaker 1: Know? These are the real ones.
- 24:03Speaker 2: They're just little models on a table, and he says
- 24:06Speaker 2: take him away and put things inside of him, not
- 24:08Speaker 2: nice things.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And I was like, what are we doing? What are
- 24:12Speaker 1: we doing here about than waiting for the next segment.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Elizabeth then gets angry when she catches I'm just gonna say.
- 24:17Speaker 2: The characters as Homer and Marge kisses at the bottom
- 24:19Speaker 2: of the steps because she was taken aback by how
- 24:21Speaker 2: strong he was and how chivalrous he was, because she
- 24:23Speaker 2: loves them both, apparently because she says, I loved Junes, like,
- 24:26Speaker 2: which one are you talking to?
- 24:27Speaker 1: I don't even know? Listeners and doers. If you are
- 24:30Speaker 1: interested in learning a little bit more about this, well,
- 24:32Speaker 1: there are many history books that you could read. There
- 24:34Speaker 1: are also the Elizabeth movies. There's just one called Elizabeth
- 24:38Speaker 1: that came out in the late nineties, starring Kate Blanchette
- 24:41Speaker 1: as Elizabeth. First, they came out with a sequel a
- 24:43Speaker 1: few years later called Elizabeth the Golden Age, which had
- 24:47Speaker 1: Kate Blenchett replies in her role Clive Owen as Sir
- 24:50Speaker 1: Walter Rawley, who was apparently, yeah, bit of a pants man.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So there you go. If you want to have fun
- 24:53Speaker 1: a little learn, a little something to listen a full
- 24:56Speaker 1: finger discount. But then maybe you check out these movies.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Clive O was the one you nearly spoke to in once.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I did speaking to a cafe once once.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Struck meals, all right, that's the thing you see.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You see some movie stars in real life. It's kind
- 25:08Speaker 1: of like whoa, And then you see others kind of like,
- 25:10Speaker 1: we're just You're just a dude like me. He's sitting
- 25:12Speaker 1: down and join a Coffee've got a little ball spot
- 25:14Speaker 1: in the back of your head. With more money and
- 25:16Speaker 1: more talent. Well is that more moneys done about more talent? Yeah, club,
- 25:22Speaker 1: that's pretty cool.
- 25:24Speaker 2: But anyway, so she is angry at them both for
- 25:27Speaker 2: kissing and cheating on her. I guess I don't know whatever.
- 25:30Speaker 1: It is, she's the really, she's kind of sexually frustrated
- 25:32Speaker 1: or romantically frustrated both.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Then thinks that she's because she's hairy, she doesn't shave,
- 25:36Speaker 2: that she's Beowolf whatever.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Well, no, she's Grendel. Grendol, which is the monster, and
- 25:42Speaker 1: Beowolf is the hero of Legend who apparently slew Grendel.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Okay, then yeah, so basically saying that she's likely and hairy.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Then she arrives on tea Biscuit, well not quite on him,
- 25:53Speaker 2: because Tebiscuit hasn't any part of having quinnas with the
- 25:55Speaker 2: first on him, so he runs into the water and
- 25:57Speaker 2: commits suicide.
- 25:58Speaker 1: It's really harsh. Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 2: The Amada then arrives and they realize it's too early
- 26:02Speaker 2: to be standing underneath the mission accomplished banner, and they
- 26:05Speaker 2: pray Lord Jesus, our country termed Protestants for the sole
- 26:08Speaker 2: reason so our fat mean King gold Dumpy's faithful wife.
- 26:11Speaker 1: This is the man really business. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 26:14Speaker 2: And then Homer is pipe acidently causes the ship to
- 26:16Speaker 2: go up in flames. They all abandoned ship like cowards,
- 26:20Speaker 2: and it drives through Themada.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Normally I love to be flaming dreen boats heading my way,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but not like this, baby, not like them. You had
- 26:30Speaker 1: to be there. One of this is historically accurate. Who
- 26:35Speaker 1: knows an print the legend?
- 26:38Speaker 2: Homer is now Sir Sir Walter Raleigh. Queenlizabeth the First
- 26:41Speaker 2: blesses them. She says, you've saved us from the Amada,
- 26:45Speaker 2: and she says I don't need a man because I
- 26:46Speaker 2: have England and moss.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah whatever you think. That's the end of that story.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Let's move on to the next one, shall we.
- 26:53Speaker 2: So we've got the two Asian workers in the inner
- 26:58Speaker 2: store saying we're going to go to the Cuckooo in
- 27:01Speaker 2: our language means nothing. I'm like, is that even a
- 27:03Speaker 2: reference to something? I've never heard anyone say that?
- 27:05Speaker 1: What is the joke? Here are your Cuckaroo is like
- 27:08Speaker 1: as a chain restaurant. All right, is it really? I
- 27:11Speaker 1: believe so CU's I have not. I just thought this
- 27:14Speaker 1: is make up words. Cuckoo.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I should have googled cuckoo American fast casual restaurant. Okay,
- 27:19Speaker 2: so the joke is that they're going to an Asian
- 27:23Speaker 2: theme restaurant. Doesn't actually mean anything. Okay, okay, I'll give
- 27:26Speaker 2: you that one. Then fair enough.
- 27:28Speaker 1: So here's yeah, Well, allow me to read from the internet.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Cuckoo was an American fast casual restaurant. Was huh, yeah, well,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I've heard of fast food and I've heard of casual.
- 27:37Speaker 1: This is called fast casual. I'm not sure what that means.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Cuckaroo was an American fast casual restaurant chain specializing in
- 27:45Speaker 1: charm broiled chicken. Found it in nineteen eighty eight by
- 27:48Speaker 1: a pair of Los Angeles based restaurant tours. The name
- 27:52Speaker 1: Cuckoo was an on a mate on a on a
- 27:55Speaker 1: matae reference France was on a p take reference to
- 27:59Speaker 1: the of a rooster. So yeah, it's not even Asian
- 28:03Speaker 1: sort of adjacent. I feel like you need to have
- 28:06Speaker 1: cocoa as a it's very tasty. That's where you want
- 28:16Speaker 1: to go down a cuckoo. What a marketing genius you are?
- 28:20Speaker 1: Chicken handbag is god have a bottom of soda? But
- 28:30Speaker 1: it's not even Yeah, it's funny that it's not even
- 28:33Speaker 1: Asian adjacent and they're still making a gag out of it. Yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 1: that is bizarre, right, Yeah, given the font that they're using,
- 28:39Speaker 1: you could make that mistake if you weren't wearing your glasses.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But if it's not meant to be a an Asian
- 28:45Speaker 2: reshot of any kind, then why would you? Yeah, what
- 28:48Speaker 2: does this joke mean?
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean make a joke about say PF. Chang's
- 28:53Speaker 1: and say, by the way, that guy's not even Asian
- 28:56Speaker 1: or something. City Walk.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Says, are going to look pretty, and Lisa says she
- 29:02Speaker 2: has a dangerous story about beauty and it's snow white
- 29:06Speaker 2: and a seven, and the blue head lawyer interrupts her,
- 29:08Speaker 2: saying that they're all belong Disney. Yeah, we've heard the
- 29:10Speaker 2: spiel before. She says, Well, my dwarfs are named crabby, drunky, hungry, greedy,
- 29:15Speaker 2: Lenny Kearney, doctor human. Indeed, snow white film that was
- 29:20Speaker 2: made that one time.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I have written down here I have no desire to
- 29:23Speaker 1: watch the new snow White, even though it is currently
- 29:25Speaker 1: on our Disney Plus Friend of the Pot. Yeah, that
- 29:27Speaker 1: film is just meant to be forgotten about, right, I think?
- 29:29Speaker 2: So what an absolute mediated disaster that was for Disney.
- 29:32Speaker 2: That just in the entire the pre production, the production, them,
- 29:36Speaker 2: everything about it.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Just an absolute disaster. But how many of these live
- 29:41Speaker 1: action remakes have you watched or have you been even
- 29:45Speaker 1: excited for? I mean, they made a live action Mulan.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It got to a point where they do it that
- 29:49Speaker 1: it kind of exists. So The Jungle Books was the
- 29:50Speaker 1: first one Jungle Book and it did very well. Being
- 29:52Speaker 1: the beast I have never seen. Apparently it's good, right,
- 29:54Speaker 1: it's all right. Lion King was just like you watched
- 29:57Speaker 1: his going everyone went to seat because it was the
- 29:59Speaker 1: Lion King, and then he got halfway through and going
- 30:00Speaker 1: what the hell am I watching here? But they've had
- 30:03Speaker 1: like the prequel to that recently.
- 30:05Speaker 2: We haven't got to see Nicola, who is of all
- 30:07Speaker 2: the people I've met in this world, Nicola, my wife
- 30:10Speaker 2: is the biggest Lionking fan, and she has zero desire
- 30:13Speaker 2: to watch my fast.
- 30:14Speaker 1: It apparently made mad Bank because yeah, people are idiots.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Well that's true, but yeah, snow White did not. No, yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it just strikes me as this very sad feedback loop Aladdin.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I didn't mind. I enjoyed. Think about Aladdin is I thought,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and I will die on this hill.
- 30:31Speaker 2: The music in the live action Aladdin is so much
- 30:36Speaker 2: better than the music in the original Aladdin animated version,
- 30:40Speaker 2: just from a sheer perspective. Right, Will Smith singing Robin
- 30:44Speaker 2: Williams songs, He's not on that level. I'm talking just
- 30:48Speaker 2: the music. So like Will Smith's actually singing is not great,
- 30:52Speaker 2: not better than Rob Williams as the genie, but just
- 30:54Speaker 2: the actual music of that song fan like me is
- 30:56Speaker 2: so much better in the live action And I swear
- 30:59Speaker 2: by that.
- 31:00Speaker 1: No, I'm not. I'm not going to dispute that. I mean,
- 31:02Speaker 1: in my humble opinion, Okay, I don't really remember a
- 31:04Speaker 1: lot about Aladdin, considering how well that did. It's got
- 31:08Speaker 1: a surprisingly shallow cultural footprint.
- 31:11Speaker 2: It's a look like Avatar, and some it's because Disney
- 31:13Speaker 2: don't want you to remember it, essentially like well, because
- 31:16Speaker 2: if you remember it, then you will you won't shell
- 31:18Speaker 2: out for the next one. So we got to do
- 31:20Speaker 2: so we've got snow White and she's talking about she
- 31:22Speaker 2: tells a story.
- 31:30Speaker 1: It so hide. This song's not like any song, you know.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I like the ho Hey, it's just it's a little
- 31:44Speaker 2: fun gay. This song's not like any other song, you know.
- 31:47Speaker 2: We get the Wicked Queen, who isn't actually played by
- 31:49Speaker 2: any Simpsons character. I'm like, what was the point then?
- 31:52Speaker 2: Why was this not a Simpsons character? Is that the
- 31:54Speaker 2: whole point of doing these.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Is that slot? Missus k in there? Somebody somebody hell?
- 32:01Speaker 2: And she asked the HDTV on the Wall, which is
- 32:04Speaker 2: a gag that works in two thousand and nine, but
- 32:06Speaker 2: not now whatever nine yet Esney nine, because HDTV is
- 32:10Speaker 2: a just do you even say HDTV?
- 32:11Speaker 1: The Wrek? You just a tv AV novel. But it
- 32:15Speaker 1: was certainly a thing there in the in the late
- 32:17Speaker 1: two thousands when it's like full HD, Oh my god,
- 32:20Speaker 1: incredibly high definition and yeah, we're going to see what
- 32:22Speaker 1: everybody looks like. Yes, yeah, not good.
- 32:25Speaker 2: But so she asked who the Ferris on the Wall is,
- 32:28Speaker 2: and it's snow White and the weather girl from Channel nine.
- 32:31Speaker 1: There's a great gag in thirty Rock where they they
- 32:34Speaker 1: do the HD thing where it's like you see what
- 32:36Speaker 1: everybody looks like HDTV. Yeah, but I think I think
- 32:40Speaker 1: it's mainly it might be Tina Fame. Mostly, it might
- 32:42Speaker 1: be Liz Lemon really sort of made up to look
- 32:44Speaker 1: like the Wicked Witch of the West. You see Jack
- 32:46Speaker 1: donneghe Alec Bourban on HDTV and it's nineteen ninety for October.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Because he just wins all the time. That's a really
- 32:56Speaker 1: good game.
- 32:57Speaker 2: I saw someone share a photo of Alec Borward like
- 32:59Speaker 2: a sort of convention like two weeks ago, and he's
- 33:02Speaker 2: just setting up this fold out table next to like
- 33:04Speaker 2: some random voice after and it's like, that's Ali Borwert.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, what the hell happened? Cons are weird. We
- 33:10Speaker 1: talk about this all the time, but they strike me
- 33:13Speaker 1: so strange that these days, you're, of course familiar with
- 33:16Speaker 1: the Lost Boys, and you're seeing meet with Jason Patrick,
- 33:18Speaker 1: the star at that in his prime, in his youth, beautiful,
- 33:22Speaker 1: the most handsome men around. You know, you think, oh
- 33:25Speaker 1: my god, this guy's gonna be the biggest movie star ever.
- 33:27Speaker 1: And apparently he was kind of his own words down
- 33:29Speaker 1: to me in a lot of ways, took the work
- 33:30Speaker 1: and himself a bit serious. The little val Kilmorrish in
- 33:32Speaker 1: some regards. He was like some con in La not
- 33:37Speaker 1: long ago, but like because he's in Terrifier three apparently,
- 33:39Speaker 1: and he's in a lot of B movies these days.
- 33:43Speaker 1: But I think still with the feeling he's one of
- 33:44Speaker 1: these people who again takes himself and his art very
- 33:47Speaker 1: very seriously. And here he is at this fucking con
- 33:49Speaker 1: with a fold out card table signing art the clown merch.
- 33:54Speaker 1: It's like, I shouldn't be feeling sorry for you, Jason Patrick.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I'm Guy Davis. I shouldn't be feeling sorry for Jason Patrick.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Kind of did ye.
- 34:05Speaker 2: At this time and there's not no one there, and
- 34:07Speaker 2: I'm like, that's Alc Baldwin.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's funny because he comes across as someone who's very
- 34:12Speaker 1: sort of I mean, he's got that great voice, in
- 34:14Speaker 1: that great presence, and he's come across a very very
- 34:17Speaker 1: dignified Yeah, but lately there's that thing. But there's also
- 34:21Speaker 1: he's been doing a lot of tiktoks or Instagram reels
- 34:23Speaker 1: with his wife, who apparently is not Spanish but speaks
- 34:28Speaker 1: in a Spanish accent. You can look into that yourself,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but that's just too weird for my blood. But doing
- 34:36Speaker 1: a whole lot of those kind of very relatable. Hey,
- 34:39Speaker 1: it's it's me and my husband, Alec Boorwyn. Here we
- 34:41Speaker 1: are in the pool. Here we are driving out to
- 34:43Speaker 1: get some cuckooo or some ship like that. It's like,
- 34:46Speaker 1: how fuck does the economy that you have to do
- 34:51Speaker 1: this business?
- 34:52Speaker 2: It's just he's doing the concert and I'm looking at
- 34:54Speaker 2: this like all these different kinds ex. Salt Lake City.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Now, we are not going to be judging anyone how
- 35:01Speaker 1: they get the bag, but at the same time.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Just sounds bizarre because I grew he was a star
- 35:07Speaker 2: and like thirty Rocks he was. Yeah, it's Alec Baldwin.
- 35:11Speaker 1: At the same time, I think he has copped to
- 35:13Speaker 1: the fact that he remarried. You've got a bunch of kids.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Was like the controversy with the gun scenario is that
- 35:18Speaker 1: as well still still seems to be working. But the
- 35:21Speaker 1: way you sort of make your money these days is
- 35:24Speaker 1: but by rocking up to a con and just you know,
- 35:26Speaker 1: signing autographs.
- 35:27Speaker 2: So I'm going to show you a photo here, look
- 35:28Speaker 2: at this. It's just him with a bunch of eight
- 35:30Speaker 2: by tens on a cardboard on a fold out table.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Oh boy, with like a homemade banner behind him. It's bizarre, right, Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 2: that someone probably made on fiver. Yeah, and the biggest
- 35:40Speaker 2: character on that banner is boss Baby.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Oh boy.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Anyway, we now return you to four great women and
- 35:50Speaker 2: a manicure. How did we get to to Ali Bourbin
- 35:52Speaker 2: and to all that talking about the weather go on
- 35:54Speaker 2: channel nine?
- 35:54Speaker 1: Hey TV? Yeah, yeah we gave.
- 35:57Speaker 2: But she orders Willy, the evil Queen orders Willing to
- 36:00Speaker 2: go and bring her this is a snow White's heart
- 36:02Speaker 2: in the box and put the rest of her in
- 36:04Speaker 2: this box. And when you get back and get your
- 36:06Speaker 2: reward and has a box shaped like him. Snow White
- 36:08Speaker 2: is then cooking. She tells the turtle to get into
- 36:10Speaker 2: the soup. He dies a horrible death, and she laughs
- 36:12Speaker 2: about it.
- 36:12Speaker 1: And I was like, why, why what is going on there?
- 36:17Speaker 1: NICKI turtles? Yeah, everyone loves turtles, the favorite of God's animals. Yeah,
- 36:21Speaker 1: it's bizarre that moment. But Willy walks in. I cannot
- 36:29Speaker 1: do it. Run Lassie, find we little men and hide
- 36:34Speaker 1: with them. Now to fool the queen with a pig's heart.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I cannot do it. Maybe I'll get a heart out
- 36:44Speaker 1: of construction. People. I cannot do it. I cannot do it,
- 36:51Speaker 1: so she goes through the gingerbread house. You're doing you
- 36:54Speaker 1: can do it? Spoiler alert. That moment in Happy Gil
- 36:58Speaker 1: what made me smile, just a little smiling and happy. Yeah,
- 37:02Speaker 1: I don't know how much off and I laughed. I
- 37:04Speaker 1: smiled a lot.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I laughed a lot at the bit with the when
- 37:08Speaker 2: he kept hitting the gold balls, keep hit him the
- 37:09Speaker 2: head because I like, I said to Nicola, push pause,
- 37:11Speaker 2: and I was like, this isn't like funny unless Adam
- 37:14Speaker 2: Sandler's doing it. It's just like, are the sound make
- 37:18Speaker 2: And I'm like, this is so stupid, But Adam Sandler
- 37:22Speaker 2: doing it. It's just funny. Adam Sandler just you can't
- 37:27Speaker 2: up but love him. They yeah, gingerbread house. She finds
- 37:30Speaker 2: Grandma's house and the dogs inside.
- 37:32Speaker 1: The wolf What is that, oh Grandma? Yeah? The red
- 37:35Speaker 1: writing on story. Yeah, I thought I thought it was
- 37:36Speaker 1: like a specific wolf from Disney or something. I don't know.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Anyway, it almost looked a bit like the text Avery did, yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 2: from the mask. Then she finds the house that belongs
- 37:46Speaker 2: to the Seven Dwarfs. She goes inside, she tests out
- 37:48Speaker 2: the beds.
- 37:49Speaker 1: We're getting the.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Goldilocks reference here too, hard, too soft, third once also
- 37:52Speaker 2: too hard, so she settles for the soft one. Then
- 37:55Speaker 2: we get the dwarfs. As they say, here arriving home,
- 37:58Speaker 2: it's time to now get high. Take some shrooms. Go
- 38:01Speaker 2: to our rooms.
- 38:02Speaker 1: People of guys elk sure and they see the lights on.
- 38:07Speaker 2: And Mo Krabby says, let's put a pick axe in
- 38:10Speaker 2: its brain. And they say, you're in marketing, why do
- 38:12Speaker 2: you need an axe? And he's like, if you're in marketing,
- 38:14Speaker 2: you'd know.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Sure.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Krabby then tries to wake up snow White because they
- 38:18Speaker 2: assume they find her in bed o. She's beautiful, she
- 38:20Speaker 2: must be cursed. She needs to kiss to wake her up.
- 38:21Speaker 2: She wakes up quickly, so he then kisses a door
- 38:23Speaker 2: knob instead. How any of this was considered to be funny,
- 38:27Speaker 2: I don't know. Let's just get through it.
- 38:30Speaker 1: She's staying the billion That was probably the phrase they
- 38:32Speaker 1: used in the rider's room, as well as like I've
- 38:34Speaker 1: got dinner to get home.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, she's staying home. The next day looking after the house.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Dr Hibbitt warmed her to look out for the evil witch.
- 38:42Speaker 2: She's a master of disguise and snow watches cleaning all
- 38:45Speaker 2: the animals are helping her. The bear accidentally puts in
- 38:47Speaker 2: too much cleaning powder, so that's too much. You get
- 38:50Speaker 2: outside now, and I'm like, it's trying to help.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You help. It's a big polite and they help out
- 38:56Speaker 1: of the bear anyway.
- 38:57Speaker 2: So then the evil witch arrives, forces her to take
- 38:59Speaker 2: a by the red apple and she passes out. The
- 39:03Speaker 2: dwarves approached the witch, she jumps out the window, sees
- 39:05Speaker 2: the herbivores, who she thinks aren't going to attack her,
- 39:07Speaker 2: and then they kill her. Yes, and that's the end
- 39:10Speaker 2: of that story now, but snow white. Then she's asleep
- 39:13Speaker 2: and she says she waited for a prince, but he
- 39:15Speaker 2: never came. Since a woman doesn't need to depend on
- 39:17Speaker 2: a man, she was brought back to life by our
- 39:19Speaker 2: lady doctor march As.
- 39:21Speaker 1: She lived happily ever after. While she could indulge in
- 39:23Speaker 1: generous activities like handball, but otherwise she was fine. As
- 39:26Speaker 1: I said, cool story, Lisa.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah, the third one was probably the most enjoyable. I
- 39:30Speaker 2: think the Macbeth one, yeah, purely because it was just
- 39:33Speaker 2: felt had a horror aspect to it. I guess ba
- 39:35Speaker 2: Hoomer asks for bride money before this story starts, Marge
- 39:38Speaker 2: gives them dry cleaning coupons. Don't forget it's still going
- 39:41Speaker 2: to be a civil suit, and Marg's like, oh, now,
- 39:43Speaker 2: she tells the story of a great woman who was
- 39:44Speaker 2: held backed by a not so great husband, and it's Macbeth.
- 39:47Speaker 2: And it turns out that it's not actually set when
- 39:50Speaker 2: Macbeth set. It's set on this set of a Mabeth play,
- 39:52Speaker 2: which I oh, thank god, it's something different. And the
- 39:55Speaker 2: director says that you shouldn't be complaining about You shouldn't
- 39:57Speaker 2: get to show business if you're going to complain about
- 39:59Speaker 2: washing barbecue sauce the fleotards.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah, now, this is a return of the director forgot
- 40:03Speaker 1: the episode that is in my apologies, Yeah, I do have.
- 40:07Speaker 1: But it's basically a takeoff of Roy Scheider in All
- 40:11Speaker 1: that Jazz. He's got that sort of got the go
- 40:13Speaker 1: to you got the open shirt? Yeah, very much, sort
- 40:15Speaker 1: of like a macho Broadway director who's you know, he'll
- 40:19Speaker 1: tear you down to get the best out of it.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah, bringing down a few pegs. But she believes that
- 40:24Speaker 2: if Homer had a better part or better role in
- 40:26Speaker 2: the play, that she wouldn't have to be washing all
- 40:28Speaker 2: of the outfits in the costumes, and we cut to Homer,
- 40:30Speaker 2: who was a tree, and he says, well, at least
- 40:31Speaker 2: I'm getting my face out there, and they cover his
- 40:33Speaker 2: face with a bit of buck yep. This show is

- 41:01Speaker 4: I thought I was marrying a man who could play McBeth.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Hey, there's no way I could ever be as good
- 41:06Speaker 1: as dead guy stars. Hide your fires, Let not light
- 41:11Speaker 1: see my black and deep desires. Mels like the Son
- 41:17Speaker 1: Lawrence Olivier and John Gilgood always vaunted but never heard,
- 41:20Speaker 1: But oh how they tried. I don't know about that.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I mean John Gilgert was gay. I don't know if
- 41:24Speaker 1: Laurence Olivier was gay. It is actors. You ever heard
- 41:31Speaker 1: that thing about Tom Hardy, He's bane he's much that's
- 41:35Speaker 1: the odor, sure that that's great. I think someone asked him,
- 41:40Speaker 1: you know when he was when he started was on
- 41:41Speaker 1: the rides, like maybe had like a same sick experiences.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And he's like, man, it was an actor in the nineties.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Of course I've had gay experience.
- 41:49Speaker 2: It's like, wow, good bed, I never heard the hardy
- 41:56Speaker 2: boys hardly boys. But she says to Homer that perhaps
- 42:03Speaker 2: we should turn Mal into a six feet understudy. And
- 42:06Speaker 2: I was like, do you mean kill him? She's like yeah,
- 42:09Speaker 2: So she gives him the knife. He sets into his room.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I didn't mind the snoring snore as he's snoring, tries
- 42:15Speaker 2: to kill him, but it turns out it's just a
- 42:16Speaker 2: prop knife. So he beats him to death with his
- 42:18Speaker 2: own bone, not before he quotes Shakespeare see him in Heavens.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Then the director calls a moment of silence moment over
- 42:27Speaker 2: and says, Homer, You've now got the lead as a
- 42:29Speaker 2: result of the death of sideshow Mal's bone climbing out
- 42:32Speaker 2: of his hair and.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Beating him to death seems seems logical.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I'm just happy with her. With her D's Homer is
- 42:36Speaker 2: now terrible in the role. He's reading the wrong place.
- 42:38Speaker 2: He's going bye bye Berdie and then Matrics reloaded script.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Twenty five.
- 42:44Speaker 2: This feels dated, but at the time that's just trueloaded.
- 42:47Speaker 2: They were huge at the time.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Man, oh well, we were all kind of oh were
- 42:51Speaker 1: Matrix fantastic? You get It's kind of like it's like
- 42:54Speaker 1: seeing Phantom Menace for the first time. I should be
- 42:56Speaker 1: enjoying this. Why am I not enjoying it? Is it me?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Is it just that you? Yeah?
- 43:02Speaker 2: I'm not there watching Last Jedi? Remember we hide out
- 43:04Speaker 2: Gold Class. We had like Star Wars trivia before it started,
- 43:08Speaker 2: and like half an hour in you just sense that
- 43:10Speaker 2: everyone's room was looking at it and going, oh no,
- 43:13Speaker 2: you two. But this is where we get This is
- 43:18Speaker 2: where we start getting the reviews though, So they're at
- 43:19Speaker 2: MOS after the play, they're all getting their reviews. Does
- 43:22Speaker 2: this actually happen in New York? They do reviews like
- 43:24Speaker 2: that night.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Apparently so apparently back in the day. Yeah, yeah, because
- 43:28Speaker 1: this feel like who does newspapers now? In general? That's true,
- 43:31Speaker 1: it just go online and type. But it would be
- 43:33Speaker 1: certainly with Broadway, I mean, which was sort of setting
- 43:35Speaker 1: the tone for the theater across America. The critic would
- 43:40Speaker 1: go instantly sort of bash out the review just in
- 43:42Speaker 1: time for the early edition or whatever. So yeah, you'd
- 43:46Speaker 1: have people. Yeah, cast members and crew members are sort
- 43:48Speaker 1: of clamoring for that first edition. See what do they think?
- 43:51Speaker 1: What do they think? Because it's going to make or
- 43:52Speaker 1: break you. Yeah, reviews mattered? Oh absolutely yeah, but now
- 43:56Speaker 1: it's our mate Emon Moss background, Hello influencers. What a
- 44:02Speaker 1: boss moment, What a lord.
- 44:03Speaker 2: March then reads that Hibbitt as Banquo gets the good reviews,
- 44:06Speaker 2: So March as, you're gonna have to kill him?
- 44:08Speaker 1: Next? Is this where Homer says, wouldn't it be easier
- 44:11Speaker 1: if I just took acting let's screw your courage to
- 44:13Speaker 1: the sticking place and will not fail?
- 44:14Speaker 2: What's that from X Men too? Macbeth mccoop. Homan then
- 44:18Speaker 2: sneaks into the hospital and we've already touched on this
- 44:20Speaker 2: when he kills Hibbitt with a laughing gas This was
- 44:22Speaker 2: actually terrifying. Imagine being in this moment, My goodness, being
- 44:25Speaker 2: in a room knowing it's almost like drowning and being
- 44:28Speaker 2: like a foot from the top of the water.
- 44:29Speaker 1: It's like it's right there.
- 44:31Speaker 2: If I just got to there, I'd be saved, but
- 44:33Speaker 2: you can't get that window open and dies Like that's
- 44:35Speaker 2: horrifying to me. It's just like it'd be like, you know, what,
- 44:39Speaker 2: do you think you'd be more fearful of being eaten
- 44:41Speaker 2: alive by a shark or someone drowning you and holding
- 44:44Speaker 2: you just like a foot under the water. What would
- 44:46Speaker 2: be more terrifying? I think obviously the shark is more
- 44:47Speaker 2: painful and terrifying.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Right, I think so? But yeah, I've got a just
- 44:51Speaker 1: a lifelong fear of drowning. Yes, was I nearly drowned
- 44:54Speaker 1: when I was a kid.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, I nearly drowned when I was about thirteen.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:59Speaker 2: The rip just took me out and I thought for
- 45:01Speaker 2: a moment I was sick. It's almost like I came
- 45:03Speaker 2: to piece of it. I was like, oh I'm going
- 45:05Speaker 2: to die now. Oh yeah, Well, I mean I remember
- 45:07Speaker 2: thinking of going, oh, are you going to die? And
- 45:09Speaker 2: then I was like and then all of a sudden,
- 45:10Speaker 2: I got out and I was like, I'm not going
- 45:12Speaker 2: to die. And it's such a weird feeling.
- 45:15Speaker 1: I've got a podcasts a weird.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Coming to piece of going, Oh I can't do it.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I'm just going to die.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Yeah, this is very interesting. I'm wondering if it feels
- 45:23Speaker 1: like sort of going back to the womb in some ways,
- 45:26Speaker 1: because you know, when you're in your mum's tummy, you're
- 45:28Speaker 1: sort of floating around in the amniotic sac, You've got
- 45:30Speaker 1: all this fluid around you. You're basically an amphibian. Going
- 45:34Speaker 1: back and drowning would kind of feel like, oh, well,
- 45:36Speaker 1: back to the I've respawned.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Essentially, I wasn't even really panicking. I panicked for a second,
- 45:42Speaker 2: and then when I sort of felt like I couldn't
- 45:43Speaker 2: get to the top, I stopped panicking.
- 45:45Speaker 1: You hear this a lot about drowning. Yes, yeah, I
- 45:47Speaker 1: mean because my experience happened when I was very young.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I would have been about maybe three or four. You remember,
- 45:53Speaker 1: it's one of my first memories. Oh wow, Yeah that
- 45:56Speaker 1: explains at all. Oh yeah that I I was basically
- 46:00Speaker 1: on the bottom of the deep end of the pool
- 46:02Speaker 1: and I kind of had this thought, all right, well,
- 46:05Speaker 1: there are the steps I'm gonna have to walk from
- 46:07Speaker 1: here to get to there. And then I was yanked
- 46:10Speaker 1: out of the pool by one of my sisters. So
- 46:13Speaker 1: it is. But so I've got that fear of drowning
- 46:16Speaker 1: at the same time, it's like, maybe I shouldn't because
- 46:18Speaker 1: apparently it's supposedly quite peaceful. Once you sort of realize, oh,
- 46:22Speaker 1: this is happening. That's literal, and I experienced that. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:25Speaker 1: it was weird. Yeah, so like being eaten by wild
- 46:28Speaker 1: animals or being eaten my shark or something, I think that, Yeah,
- 46:30Speaker 1: that would kind of suck.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I cried for like two hours afterwards, just purely from
- 46:33Speaker 2: just the of course, I don't know how to feel.
- 46:35Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, so emotional. I was like, I'm alive,
- 46:38Speaker 2: and it was just it was bizarre.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, become completely aware of the fragility of
- 46:42Speaker 1: it all. I can go in any second. Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:45Speaker 2: But anyway, getting back to this episode, to Yah homesteaking
- 46:49Speaker 2: to hospitals and killing people. Yes, but marg then reads
- 46:52Speaker 2: the reviews and saying that everyone it was better than Homer,
- 46:56Speaker 2: even Eddie and Lou as the two soldiers without any lines,
- 46:59Speaker 2: are better than Homer and last and least yeah Homer,
- 47:02Speaker 2: as they call him. So she questions Homer, questions why
- 47:05Speaker 2: they're writing new reviews every single day. It's like sh
- 47:08Speaker 2: But then he kills them all at the cast party,
- 47:11Speaker 2: and then he sings a song to himself and sleeps
- 47:13Speaker 2: on their corpses, and Margin's annoyed that he killed them
- 47:16Speaker 2: all in their costumes. And then the ghosts of all
- 47:19Speaker 2: the corpses confront Margines that your dark ambitions guided him,
- 47:22Speaker 2: guided his murderer's hand.
- 47:24Speaker 1: No, I just encouraged him.
- 47:25Speaker 2: You're encouraged by withholding sex sex. I'm like, when did
- 47:28Speaker 2: that happen?
- 47:29Speaker 1: Is that a delete the scene? What does she withhold sex?
- 47:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm trying to recall if that actually happens in Macbeth,
- 47:34Speaker 2: But anyway, it's not in this story. Like there is
- 47:37Speaker 2: no mention of Homo not getting He could have just
- 47:39Speaker 2: said a snowball, not until you kill the cast members,
- 47:42Speaker 2: or maybe maybe she does say in the bed because
- 47:44Speaker 2: they are in the bed. When she says that maybe
- 47:45Speaker 2: I'm missing, I was so just like chewing out for
- 47:47Speaker 2: this one. I couldn't care man. But Homer finds her
- 47:50Speaker 2: dead though, because the ghost kill her at least as
- 47:53Speaker 2: you can't nag me anymore, and she's like, that's where
- 47:54Speaker 2: you're wrong. Get out on stage, and the director points
- 47:57Speaker 2: out that there's no cast, there's no audience.
- 47:59Speaker 1: This is your moment. Get out there and do this thing.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Why I go cheer out my books.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Of my subway sandwich franchise, because if you call a
- 48:04Speaker 2: sandwich maker an artist, it's like an invitation to steal.
- 48:07Speaker 2: So Homer performs the play really well. Marge is proud
- 48:11Speaker 2: of him, and she says, there's now nothing that can
- 48:12Speaker 2: stop you from taking on Shakespeare's greatest role. She throws
- 48:15Speaker 2: various scripts at him, and then he kills himself by
- 48:17Speaker 2: shooting himself and says, me, having to read all those
- 48:20Speaker 2: players would have been a real tragedy. Ended that one,
- 48:24Speaker 2: and it's now time for a fourth story.
- 48:26Speaker 1: No, no, what what? Three stories?
- 48:28Speaker 2: That's what we always tell Yes, yeah, no, it's the
- 48:30Speaker 2: fourth one. And Maggie wants one too, So Marge points
- 48:33Speaker 2: out that Agnes is reading the book, which is is
- 48:35Speaker 2: it the fountain Head? The fountain Head for right wing losers?
- 48:38Speaker 2: And Agnes thinks that what's her name again?
- 48:41Speaker 1: Ain Ran? Yeah, it's her first name? Is a y
- 48:45Speaker 1: n that Anne or ain That's the thing. I mean,
- 48:50Speaker 1: I thought it was ain Ran. I thought it was
- 48:51Speaker 1: ann Ran, I think when I was a kid. Yeah,
- 48:54Speaker 1: let's go with ann Ran.
- 48:55Speaker 2: But anyway, but anyway, she Agnes thinks that it's a
- 48:58Speaker 2: guy and he's a second slice of beefcake.
- 49:01Speaker 1: That's what he says, that's what she says.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Sorry, and margin tells the story of Maggie Rourke, an
- 49:05Speaker 2: architecture who refuses to compromise, which is the story of
- 49:08Speaker 2: the fountain Head. I did like the name of the
- 49:11Speaker 2: play center, Mediocritots. The story just felt really bizarre. So
- 49:16Speaker 2: the teacher doesn't want to be with the kids, doesn't
- 49:18Speaker 2: want the kids to succeed or show any sort of
- 49:20Speaker 2: I get that's the story of the found Head, but
- 49:21Speaker 2: it's like in this setting just feels bizarre.
- 49:23Speaker 1: It is, Yeah, look, they're really taking a shot at
- 49:26Speaker 1: ay and raand which I think is really interesting because
- 49:28Speaker 1: Brad Bird, who was like a really pivotal guy in
- 49:31Speaker 1: Simpson's Law, people accuse him of being a rand guy
- 49:35Speaker 1: in a lot of ways, particularly when it comes to
- 49:37Speaker 1: people when it comes to the Incredibles, because in what way, well,
- 49:40Speaker 1: the rand philosophy is kind of, if I'm capable of
- 49:44Speaker 1: great things, I shouldn't be chained by mediocre ideas. I
- 49:48Speaker 1: should be given freedom, the freedom to express myself and
- 49:52Speaker 1: hopefully well, the way Bird interprets it, is like, if
- 49:56Speaker 1: you allow people to, you know, talent people to do
- 49:59Speaker 1: good things, benefit if it's everybody. You see that in
- 50:01Speaker 1: The Incredibles and Your Seed and Tomorrowland as well. So
- 50:04Speaker 1: whether this is a shout out or rebuke to brad
- 50:07Speaker 1: Bird is kind of interesting. I'll admit I have not
- 50:10Speaker 1: read any of Rand's work. It just didn't really appeal
- 50:13Speaker 1: to me, although she's pretty good at like pinterest kind
- 50:15Speaker 1: of things or like inspirational quotes. I just want to
- 50:17Speaker 1: read two of them here. Well, one of them is
- 50:19Speaker 1: it's not a question of whether or not I can do,
- 50:22Speaker 1: it's a question of who's going to stop me. But
- 50:24Speaker 1: the one that I similar to that didn't think of
- 50:27Speaker 1: it whether they should, Well, yeah, there's that. There's one
- 50:29Speaker 1: that I like very much though, and this feels kind
- 50:31Speaker 1: of power positive thinking. But I like this very much.
- 50:34Speaker 1: This is what Ann Rand said, The world you desire
- 50:36Speaker 1: can be one. It exists, It is real, it is possible,
- 50:40Speaker 1: it is yours. I like that. I mean that's something
- 50:42Speaker 1: you should that you should say to yourself if you
- 50:45Speaker 1: want to do things in life, because pretty much not
- 50:49Speaker 1: everything is possible, but a lot of things are possible
- 50:51Speaker 1: if you focus your attention and your will on that.
- 50:54Speaker 1: And that's a lot of rand philosophy. Now I'm not
- 50:56Speaker 1: gonna unfortunately that can be taken and twisted and distorted
- 50:59Speaker 1: by a lot of especially bros. You mean, you'll probably
- 51:02Speaker 1: get a lot of Randy and philosophy and say like
- 51:05Speaker 1: Andrew Huberan or Andrew Taate. But uh, I kind of
- 51:08Speaker 1: like that. And yeah, I mean, and I like it
- 51:10Speaker 1: when Brad Bird does it in something like The Incredibles,
- 51:12Speaker 1: you know, where you've got a lot of people saying no, no, no,
- 51:15Speaker 1: stifle yourself, dance like these people are capable of great things.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Let them cook.
- 51:19Speaker 2: And it is struggle when you're a parent of As
- 51:21Speaker 2: this episode ends, it's like the difference between destruction and
- 51:24Speaker 2: allowing your child creative freedom. It's like I would love
- 51:27Speaker 2: you to paint, just not on the walls please.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:31Speaker 2: But Marge Yes said telling the story of Maggie Rourke
- 51:33Speaker 2: and that the school and the teacher here, the educator
- 51:37Speaker 2: he wants to do his online traffic school or whatever
- 51:39Speaker 2: it is. So he says, you can play with some
- 51:40Speaker 2: blocks and Maggie was excelling and I did, like here
- 51:44Speaker 2: March's and that's just not because I'm her mother either.
- 51:46Speaker 2: I'm not just saying we've all been there. It's like
- 51:49Speaker 2: Alie's really good at foot, Like I know he's my son. Block,
- 51:51Speaker 2: He's actually really good at.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Foot, you know.
- 51:53Speaker 2: But missus, mister Ellsworth two is his name. He wanted
- 51:56Speaker 2: every child to conform. Dancers shouldn't kick too high, and
- 51:59Speaker 2: building she mustn't touch the sky as al must reached
- 52:02Speaker 2: the sky. He says to Maggie and knocks down her building.
- 52:05Speaker 2: That she built the blocks and even the robble was
- 52:06Speaker 2: too high, so he stands on it just to make
- 52:07Speaker 2: sure and welcome to the real world, baby. Then we
- 52:09Speaker 2: get a montage with him just destroying her various building
- 52:12Speaker 2: creations and mediocrity rules, and I'm like, none of this
- 52:15Speaker 2: is funny. It's just like it's just you're telling a story. Yeah,
- 52:19Speaker 2: it's like jokes.
- 52:20Speaker 1: It's kind of that thing where I know what they're
- 52:23Speaker 1: talking about. It's it's clapped her more than laughter. I
- 52:27Speaker 1: feel good for getting this reference.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's now parent teacher day and he wants everyone
- 52:32Speaker 2: to know how beaten down and uncreative you all are.
- 52:34Speaker 2: But he says to the kids, and Homer says, if
- 52:36Speaker 2: he was in that position to be a lot of
- 52:37Speaker 2: strangled babies.
- 52:39Speaker 1: What are the who's referring to other sort of very
- 52:42Speaker 1: mediocre works of art or block building whatever, oh wonderfully pedestrian.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and then he says, all right, everybody, you will
- 52:49Speaker 2: believe your eyes. They come into Maggie has built something
- 52:52Speaker 2: really cool and says you suck by holding up the
- 52:54Speaker 2: U block and suck on the pacifier. So she gets
- 52:57Speaker 2: tried as a toddler. Allsworth wants nine times out served consecutively.
- 53:01Speaker 2: But then Maggie speaks up as Jodie Foster.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Throughout the ages, the finger painter, the Plato sculptor, the
- 53:09Speaker 4: Lincoln Lagger, stood alone against the daycare teacher of her time.
- 53:13Speaker 4: She did not live to earn approval stickers. She lived
- 53:16Speaker 4: for herself that she might achieve things that are the
- 53:19Speaker 4: glory of all humanity. These are my terms. I do
- 53:22Speaker 4: not care to play by any others. And now, if
- 53:25Speaker 4: the court will allow me, it's naptime.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Jodi Foss was really good casto because Jody Foster tends
- 53:30Speaker 1: to play as roles. Yeah. Yeah, women who are very
- 53:32Speaker 1: strong forthright can't hold me back exactly. Yeah.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Maggie grew up to be a famous architect building one
- 53:37Speaker 2: of the Wonders of the world. Building was one of
- 53:39Speaker 2: the wonders of the world, and on the top floor
- 53:40Speaker 2: was a daycare center because every child was free to
- 53:43Speaker 2: follow their dreams. Since nothing is cut, too much to tell,
- 53:46Speaker 2: and Maggie off for drawing a kick ass painting on
- 53:48Speaker 2: the wall. And that is the end of this episode,
- 53:52Speaker 2: thank God. And that's not to say because I don't
- 53:56Speaker 2: want stories about women. It's just I say this every
- 53:59Speaker 2: time they do these types of episodes. I just don't
- 54:02Speaker 2: like them. I apologize nothing to do with the theme
- 54:05Speaker 2: that I like, the story and the point behind this.
- 54:08Speaker 2: I'm glad that one of the on last week's mail
- 54:10Speaker 2: Bake episode, one of the listeners wrote in saying, have
- 54:12Speaker 2: you checked out the episode? That's kind of like twenty
- 54:14Speaker 2: two short films about spirit, but it's all women's based.
- 54:17Speaker 2: I remember really enjoying what I've seen at that so
- 54:19Speaker 2: I'm going to go back and revisit that one. The
- 54:20Speaker 2: idea behind this episode is good. I just think the
- 54:23Speaker 2: execution was not great.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I think some of these stories were really great scaffolding
- 54:28Speaker 1: for Simpsons Shenanigans. Yeah, I mean, I think the Queen
- 54:32Speaker 1: Elizabeth's story, the Lady Macbeth story, and even the Aine
- 54:35Speaker 1: Ran story. They're pretty good and you can work with those.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Snow White not so much. I don't think that worked
- 54:39Speaker 1: at all. I think that was probably that's very much
- 54:41Speaker 1: the flat tire.
- 54:42Speaker 2: I mean, Queens before was the flat one for me. Okay,
- 54:44Speaker 2: then there was a snow white kid when I was
- 54:47Speaker 2: growing up.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you use those events as the scafolding
- 54:50Speaker 1: and then you put fun jokes in them or just
- 54:53Speaker 1: you know, oh how interesting that they're using this Springfield
- 54:57Speaker 1: character in this context, that can be kind of fun.
- 55:00Speaker 1: This felt very slap dash. Let's just get this done.
- 55:04Speaker 1: It did just it felt like they was hitting a quota.
- 55:06Speaker 1: It did. Indeed, what do we learn bomb, Hey, we've
- 55:09Speaker 1: already done. Ow, what'd you learn from this episode? What
- 55:12Speaker 1: did I learn? Again? It was something I taught you?
- 55:16Speaker 1: What did I forget?
- 55:19Speaker 2: Peel to rewind or Dan? I can just edit into this,
- 55:22Speaker 2: but yeah, I said that. Yeah, Macbeth is essentially whatever
- 55:25Speaker 2: you hear, sweety yes.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Exactly right. From day forward, your names will be all right.
- 55:31Speaker 2: It's time for the Guy Davis New Name Championship, who
- 55:34Speaker 2: currently the board stands at this in first position. We
- 55:38Speaker 2: have Jared nam Me Jared Warby on twenty three points.
- 55:43Speaker 2: We have Phil Hawkins on twenty two points and Hughesy
- 55:46Speaker 2: Brian Hughes on eighteen points in third Take it.
- 55:49Speaker 1: Away, Let's see how we go here. One point goes
- 55:53Speaker 1: to a broad view of history.
- 55:55Speaker 2: That would be Mike Salter again with some points this week.
- 55:58Speaker 1: What A'm Mike sprinkling some so on your salt bay
- 56:03Speaker 1: after the minute? Reference from there. Two points goes to
- 56:08Speaker 1: her story of the World Part one, not bad?
- 56:12Speaker 2: Adam Moorehouse. There you go, Adamihouse with the two points there,
- 56:14Speaker 2: it gets him around about fourth position. Wild on Adam,
- 56:17Speaker 2: Welcome to the woolhouse.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Nice. One three points goes to see how this plays out.
- 56:25Speaker 1: I am woman here my law. That's a really good title.
- 56:28Speaker 1: That's pretty good. That one is he need me Gared?
- 56:31Speaker 1: He need me Gared?
- 56:32Speaker 2: I think that means he wins. It's on twenty six
- 56:35Speaker 2: points in first position. Phil Horgans can't catch up on
- 56:39Speaker 2: twenty two four points behind.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Is only one episode left. Congratulations Jared Horny. Name is
- 56:44Speaker 1: Jared Hornby.
- 56:45Speaker 2: Jared Horny has won the Guy That's New Yon Championship.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Next week's a dead rubber, it is.

- 57:00Speaker 2: the moral victory, which, as we all though, is the
- 57:04Speaker 2: sweetest and most profitable. But congratulations, Jared Hormy, you have
- 57:07Speaker 2: won the season twenty guy Davis New Name Championship. Well done,
- 57:10Speaker 2: my friend, nice Phil Hawkins. You can win the moral victory.
- 57:13Speaker 2: You can have the moral victory if you get three
- 57:15Speaker 2: points next week, so make sure you're sending your new names.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Still don't get your jayback, sorry, buddy.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Okay, here's the thing. If you get three points next week, Phil,
- 57:23Speaker 2: I'll give you the jay back. There you go, three
- 57:26Speaker 2: points next week, he gets the jayback for the entirety of.
- 57:29Speaker 1: The next season. I'll allow it. All right. Then here
- 57:32Speaker 1: we go.
- 57:32Speaker 2: So it's it's got something to root for now the jayback.
- 57:35Speaker 2: All right, you've got your work out out for you, buddy. Indeed. Okay,
- 57:39Speaker 2: so currently the board. Yeah, So Jared Hormy wins on
- 57:41Speaker 2: twenty six. Second is Phil Hawkins on twenty two and
- 57:44Speaker 2: third Brian hughes On eighteen points second, everybody who has
- 57:46Speaker 2: contributed to the Guy Davis New Name Championship for season twenty.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Next week is the finale of season twenty as well,

- 57:59Speaker 2: This month's theme was Stressed because school holiday's time in
- 58:02Speaker 2: Australia during this month, so I thought stress related episodes
- 58:05Speaker 2: we will throw out their margin chains and Hurricane Neddy.
- 58:09Speaker 2: They are the two episodes that we've decided to go with.
- 58:11Speaker 2: And it turns out that they have elected Hurricane Netdy. Okay, then, yes, I'm.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Sure everyone had good intentions inting for that.
- 58:20Speaker 2: In indeed, so Hurricane Netty is going to be the
- 58:23Speaker 2: next guy on Springfield Review. Maybe next week, maybe the
- 58:26Speaker 2: week after.
- 58:26Speaker 1: We'll decide. Wow, we're just making it up as we
- 58:29Speaker 1: go along here, yes, but there is actually an underlying plan.
