- 0:43I know the weather hasn't been so great
- 0:46with that, unfortunately.
- 0:47But again, it's great to have you with

- 1:18Good.
- 1:20Might as well energy boost there.
- 1:22All right.
- 1:22So, without any further ado, guys, let's kick
- 1:24this show off, all right?
- 1:26Welcome everyone.
- 1:27If I haven't said welcome to you enough,
- 1:28welcome to the Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 1:36I'm John C.
- 1:37Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:41podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 1:45lifelong learner, and now I'm so grateful to
- 1:48be a published author.
- 1:49You know, guys, every week, I explore ideas
- 1:52that help us think better, live better, and
- 1:55connect more deeply with people around us.
- 1:57Now, this week's master topic is belonging drives
- 2:02action.
- 2:02By the way, it's series five and it's
- 2:04show number 22, and yeah, this is an
- 2:13important thing.
- 2:13So, belonging drives action, and today I begin
- 2:17with one of the most important starting points
- 2:20of all.
- 2:21What is that?
- 2:22Entry.
- 2:23What is entry?
- 2:24Entry is more than the moment someone walks
- 2:27into a room or through a door or
- 2:30clicks a link or accepts an invitation.
- 2:33Entry is the emotional doorway.
- 2:35It is the first experience that tells a
- 2:38person whether they are safe, seen, and welcome.
- 2:41Before people commit, before they participate, before they
- 2:45open up, they first decide whether the space
- 2:47feels right.
- 2:48That is why entry matters so much.
- 2:51It shapes trust, lowers hesitation, and creates the
- 2:55conditions for real connection.
- 2:57Now, when entry is done well, people move
- 3:02forward with less resistance, sometimes none.
- 3:05When it's unclear, cold, or overly complicated, people
- 3:09often stop before they even begin.
- 3:12The beginning of any experience carries more power
- 3:15than most people realize.
- 3:18A strong beginning does not force people in.
- 3:21It helps them want to stay.
- 3:23That is the difference between pressure and invitation,
- 3:32so between the noise and belongingness, between attention
- 3:36and the action that we take.
- 3:39Today's episode is about the kind of entry
- 3:43that creates comfort, confidence, and participation.
- 3:47I'm going to look at why the first
- 3:51impression matters, how a clear welcome changes behavior,
- 3:54and why people respond more openly when they
- 3:58feel the door is truly open.
- 4:00See, this is not just about events, communities,
- 4:05or conversations.
- 4:06It is about the way human beings respond
- 4:10to being invited into something that feels real,
- 4:14authentic, sincere.
- 4:16Entry shapes the entire experience.
- 4:20The first moment often sets the tone for
- 4:23everything that's about to follow.
- 4:25If the entry, for some reason, feels smooth,
- 4:31people are more likely to keep going through.
- 4:35If it feels even the slightest bit awkward,
- 4:38or unclear, or foggy, or ambiguous, the energy
- 4:42just drops before the real experiences even have
- 4:46a chance to begin.
- 4:48People move when the door feels open.
- 4:51People move when the door feels open.
- 4:53I think that's a point that a lot
- 4:57of people don't seem to understand.
- 4:59They don't realize what that means.
- 5:01But when I say the door is open,
- 5:04we're talking about this emotionally.
- 5:08We're talking about this emotionally.
- 5:12I think that's important to know.
- 5:18And we can understand what it means or
- 5:22why it means this.
- 5:23I think that's a very important thing.
- 5:26But a lot of times, people don't notice
- 5:29this.
- 5:29So our body notices this.
- 5:32So our body does notice it.
- 5:34And our nervous system will respond before what?
- 5:41Before we're aware of it.
- 5:44Before we're aware of it.
- 5:47So these are important things.
- 5:52And so people learn this.
- 5:56People move when the door feels open, not
- 5:59when the door feels closed, guys.
- 6:02A closed, or I'm going to say an
- 6:05uncertain door, can be a very, very big
- 6:11problem.
- 6:15A closed or uncertain door or opportunity creates
- 6:19hesitation.
- 6:21But people sense openness.
- 6:26And when they do, they naturally lean in.
- 6:29See, that small feeling of being welcomed can
- 6:34be the difference between interest and action.
- 6:39Too many people put pressure on others that,
- 6:40you know, you have to do it this
- 6:41way.
- 6:41You have to do it that way.
- 6:43And it doesn't come across as low pressure
- 6:48because it's not or no pressure.
- 6:50See, when we put pressure on something, things
- 6:53become harder for us.
- 6:57And in that token, they get more difficult
- 7:00for us because we just overwhelm ourselves.
- 7:06And that's the difference between interest and action.
- 7:10Interest is a genuine probing of some questions.
- 7:16You get to know somebody, right?
- 7:21And action can sometimes be forceful.
- 7:25It can be manipulative, right?
- 7:27Entry, which is what we're talking about here
- 7:30today.
- 7:31Entry lowers resistance, lowers resistance.
- 7:40And when it does this, well, we sometimes
- 7:46don't quite understand.
- 7:50But it's important.
- 7:52Most people, guys, are not resisting the idea
- 7:55itself.
- 7:56They're resisting uncertainty, confusion, ambiguity, or discomfort.
- 8:00See, a strong entry removes some of the
- 8:02pressure and makes the next step feel easier.
- 8:08Yeah.
- 8:10The first yes, guys, matters most.
- 8:14The first yes is not just agreement.
- 8:17It is a decision to trust the moment
- 8:20in the environment that we're in.
- 8:22Once someone says yes to entry, they become
- 8:26much more likely to say yes to what
- 8:29comes next.
- 8:31What is next?
- 8:34Next comes with something called new spaces.
- 8:40New spaces.
- 8:41And new spaces, guys, are pretty cool because
- 8:44new spaces will change our behavior fast.
- 8:48People often act differently depending on the environment
- 8:52they enter, a calm sense they have, a
- 8:55respectfulness, and an inviting space can shift their
- 8:59tone, posture, and willingness to participate almost immediately.
- 9:07That's something that just kind of boggles me.
- 9:13But it's a big secret of life, a
- 9:15very big secret of life.
- 9:16So opening the circle invites momentum.
- 9:22When people feel included, something changes in them.
- 9:25They become more open, more relaxed, and more
- 9:29ready to engage.
- 9:30That sense of inclusion builds, well, its own
- 9:32inertia of motion.
- 9:34The first step is the hardest one, guys.
- 9:37Most barriers exist before action can begin.
- 9:45Once a person takes the first step, the
- 9:49rest often becomes easy, or I should say
- 9:53easier.
- 9:55Entry is where that initial challenge gets broken.
- 10:05And I think that's an important thing to
- 10:08realize, okay?
- 10:11Good entry, guys.
- 10:13Feel safe.
- 10:14Safety is one of the strongest signals a
- 10:17space can send.
- 10:19If people feel emotionally safe, they're more likely
- 10:21to speak, listen, connect, without guarding themselves so
- 10:27tightly, being afraid of saying something or not
- 10:30saying something.
- 10:31A clear invitation beats any kind of pressure.
- 10:35Pressure can make people pull back.
- 10:37A clear, thoughtful invitation gives them room to
- 10:41decide freely.
- 10:43And that freedom often leads to a better
- 10:46response.
- 10:47Now, people act when they feel welcome.
- 10:51Belonging is powerful because it changes behavior from
- 10:55the inside out.
- 10:56When people feel that they matter, they are
- 10:59more willing to show up, contribute, and stay
- 11:03engaged.
- 11:07Yeah, that's important, guys.
- 11:13The right room creates confidence.
- 11:17Sometimes the space itself does some of the
- 11:19work.
- 11:20When a room feels right, people carry themselves
- 11:22differently and often become more willing to open
- 11:25up.
- 11:27Entry is where the trust starts to build
- 11:30and begin.
- 11:31Trust does not usually appear all at once.
- 11:34It starts with small signals, tone, clarity, a
- 11:39sense of warmth, and a demonstration of respect.
- 11:43Entry is that first place those signals are
- 11:46received.
- 11:48A simple ask can start a new path.
- 11:51Not every invitation needs to be complex.
- 11:56Sometimes one simple human ask is enough to
- 12:01help someone take a step they might not
- 12:05have taken on their own.
- 12:10First contact sets the tone.
- 12:15The way you meet someone, greet someone, or
- 12:18invite someone matters.
- 12:21First contact often stays in a person's memory
- 12:25longer than the details of the event itself.
- 12:30You can't undo a first impression.
- 12:33The threshold matters, guys.
- 12:36The threshold is the moment between the outside
- 12:39and the inside, between uncertainty and participation.
- 12:43That moment deserves care because it carries a
- 12:48lot of emotional weight.
- 12:50People need to reason to step in.
- 12:53Most people want clarity because, well, they're moving.
- 12:58And if the purpose is obvious, the benefit
- 13:00is clear, and the atmosphere feels good, they're
- 13:04much more likely to step forward.
- 13:06Entry can be soft and strong at the
- 13:09same time.
- 13:10Now, a good invitation does not have to
- 13:14be loud to be effective.
- 13:17It can be calm, confident, and welcoming all
- 13:23at once.
- 13:24Now, strength is important, and softness are not
- 13:28opposites.
- 13:30New belonging starts with one move.
- 13:34Belonging does not always begin with a grand
- 13:37gesture.
- 13:39Nope.
- 13:40Sometimes it begins with one simple response, one
- 13:44message, one arrival, one moment of courage that
- 13:49was exhibited.
- 13:50The best invitation feels human.
- 13:54People respond to sincerity.
- 13:57A real invitation feels thoughtful, personal, and grounded.
- 14:03It does not try too hard.
- 14:06And that makes it stronger.
- 14:07That makes it stronger, guys.
- 14:12And I think that's a lot of things
- 14:13that people don't realize.
- 14:15People just don't realize that.
- 14:17Open doors, guys, create opportunity, opportunity.
- 14:25When doors stay closed, chances just vanish.
- 14:29They disappear.
- 14:30When doors are open, new relationships, new ideas,
- 14:35and new energy can enter the room.
- 14:39Entry, ladies and gentlemen, is a form of
- 14:41generosity.
- 14:44All right.
- 14:45I know maybe you haven't heard of it
- 14:46that way before, but that's kind of what
- 14:49it is.
- 14:50Okay.
- 14:52That's kind of what it is.
- 14:54So welcoming someone is an act of giving.
- 14:57Did you know that?
- 14:58It says you matter here.
- 15:00You matter to me.
- 15:01And that simple message can change how a
- 15:04person feels about the entire experience that they're
- 15:07with.
- 15:07All because of that initial interaction they might
- 15:11have had with the host or maybe some
- 15:13people that were at the event.
- 15:15They've already been started.
- 15:16A warm welcome changes the whole dynamic and
- 15:20experience.
- 15:21And warmth has a way of making people,
- 15:24shall we say, relax.
- 15:25And once they relax, they listen better.
- 15:29They connect more easily.
- 15:31And they participate more naturally.
- 15:34Now, one, this is important.
- 15:36One, ladies and gentlemen, one clear doorway beats
- 15:4510 vague ideas.
- 15:4810 vague ideas.
- 15:51Confusion slows people down.
- 15:57Clarity helps them move.
- 16:00If you want action, make the entrance simple,
- 16:05understandable, and easy to recognize.
- 16:07Now, the start decides the story.
- 16:11The start decides the story.
- 16:14The opening of any experience influences how people
- 16:18interpret the rest of it.
- 16:21So a positive start creates a better chance
- 16:24for a positive outcome.
- 16:28Entry gives people permission.
- 16:32Sometimes people are waiting to be invited before
- 16:34they feel allowed to participate.
- 16:36To participate.
- 16:42And that sounds crazy, right?
- 16:45That they're allowed to participate.
- 16:48And I think that confuses some people.
- 16:52Entry, guys, gives them that permission without any
- 16:58kind of pressure.
- 17:00Without any kind of pressure.
- 17:02So good entry will remove fear.
- 17:08Fear grows in uncertainty.
- 17:11And when the path is clear and the
- 17:14welcome is real, fear tends to soften.
- 17:18And action becomes more possible.
- 17:21People remember how they were invited.
- 17:27The invitation itself often stays with them.
- 17:30A thoughtful welcome can make someone feel valued
- 17:34long before the main experience, even, begins.
- 17:41The first moment shapes the rest.
- 17:47What do I mean by that?
- 17:48I mean, you don't get a chance to
- 17:49make a second impression.
- 17:52It's sad, but it's our truth.
- 17:55The first moment shapes the rest.
- 18:02Early participation of any interaction affects people.
- 18:10And how they interpret everything.
- 18:12After.
- 18:14And that's why entry should never be treated
- 18:16as an afterthought.
- 18:20Never treat it as an afterthought.
- 18:23I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 18:29Never treat it as an afterthought.
- 18:32Because if you do, guys, you're going to
- 18:34find that things just don't work.
- 18:38Right?
- 18:39And they don't work because you're probably in
- 18:44some type of a loop.
- 18:49In some type of loop.
- 18:51And that loop is going to get you
- 18:52frustrated because you're never going to get out
- 18:54of the loop.
- 18:55Like in computer programming, we call it an
- 18:57endless loop.
- 18:57You know, if a user enters a value
- 19:00and that value can't get cleared properly, it
- 19:02keeps going to a loop or a kind
- 19:04of condition gets hit.
- 19:05Because they enter some output that we didn't,
- 19:08let's say, foresee.
- 19:09Now the program gets stuck.
- 19:11I'll give you a perfect example.
- 19:13Individual resolve.
- 19:14If I enter, let's say, another character beside
- 19:17a number, it doesn't check that.
- 19:22It freezes.
- 19:24Have to wait about 30 or 40 seconds
- 19:26and the program closes down.
- 19:27I have to reopen or close it down
- 19:28manually.
- 19:30Right?
- 19:31And that happens a lot.
- 19:36But they've yet to fix that.
- 19:38So welcoming someone, guys, is a leadership move.
- 19:43It's a leadership move.
- 19:45Strong leadership is not just about direction.
- 19:50It's about creating conditions where others feel safe
- 19:54enough to join, to participate, and grow.
- 20:01And grow.
- 20:05That's important, guys.
- 20:09And grow.
- 20:14And grow.
- 20:14A lot of people forget that life is
- 20:18a constant thing where, you know, people don't
- 20:23understand that.
- 20:25They don't understand a point that I want
- 20:28to talk to you right now about.
- 20:29And that's about every turn, guys.
- 20:42We have to notice something different happens.
- 20:45You know what that is?
- 20:46I'm going to tell you.
- 20:48That's the entry.
- 20:52That is the entry.
- 20:58And if we can understand that, life gets
- 21:05easier.
- 21:06Life gets easier.
- 21:08And I say that to you because when
- 21:12you understand this, and you understand why something's
- 21:15working a certain way, you can appreciate it.
- 21:18So entry turns interest into participation.
- 21:22Interest is only the beginning.
- 21:23And entry is what helps interest become action.
- 21:27And action is what creates that sense of
- 21:31belongingness.
- 21:35That sense of belonging.
- 21:39And maybe people are fearful.
- 21:43That could be because of something that happened
- 21:47in the past.
- 21:48And they're replaying that.
- 21:54Entry is what helps interest become action.
- 21:58Action is what creates belongingness.
- 22:05As you think, ladies and gentlemen, about today's
- 22:11episode, I want you to remember this, okay?
- 22:16People do not just respond to what you
- 22:23offer.
- 22:25Let me say that again.
- 22:26People do not just respond to what you
- 22:29offer.
- 22:32They do, in fact, respond to how you
- 22:36make them feel when they arrive immediately.
- 22:44Entry is the first proof that a space
- 22:48is worth stepping into.
- 22:53That's the first point, guys.
- 22:57Entry is the first proof a space is
- 23:00worth stepping into.
- 23:03And when entry is done well, not manipulative,
- 23:08it creates the trust and the comfort that
- 23:16make belonging possible.
- 23:21Possible.
- 23:24And I think sometimes people go one way,
- 23:30but then they get stuck because they somehow
- 23:35either don't follow the process through or they
- 23:39find that what they're doing doesn't work anymore.
- 23:50And I think that's the real thread, is
- 23:52that people are looking to take shortcuts.
- 23:56People think that belongingness happens overnight.
- 23:59It doesn't.
- 24:01It doesn't.
- 24:04But I know people want instant results, like
- 24:08with the toys we got here from the
- 24:10gift shop at one of the museums.
- 24:17We can realize that a model is not
- 24:23the same as the real thing.
- 24:28It might seem close, but it's not the
- 24:32real thing.
- 24:33Next, ladies and gentlemen, we'll continue building on
- 24:36this master topic by exploring how belonging moves
- 24:44from an invitation into a connection and from
- 24:48connection into lasting action.
- 24:52These are steps, guys, that cannot be rushed.
- 24:56I don't care what you're doing.
- 24:58They cannot be rushed or they will be
- 25:00a complete disaster.
- 25:06I do invite you right now to go
- 25:08and check out BelieveMeAchieve.com.
- 25:11Again, for more of my amazing, of course,
- 25:13inspiring creations, which you can look at 24
- 25:16hours a day.
- 25:17So this is going to be a great
- 25:18master topic.
- 25:19We always have great master topics.
- 25:21And we always have great granular topics.
- 25:24Now, I've had people reaching out to me
- 25:25saying, hey, can I get on your show?
- 25:27So we are in the process of implementing
- 25:29an automated interview system to screen people.
- 25:32And then after that, we'll decide who we
- 25:35want to move to the next step.
- 25:36But I have not been taking any guests
- 25:38for a while.
- 25:38I've been very busy with school and other
- 25:40stuff.
- 25:40So there's a lot happening, guys, a lot.
- 25:45But I think the biggest thing is we've
- 25:46got to be aware of not only the
- 25:49things we hear.
- 25:50We've got to be aware of the things
- 25:52we see, the things we can touch, the
- 25:54things we can smell.
- 25:57Because these parts of our body, they don't
- 26:06understand why they have so many tools, let's
- 26:15say, in their arsenal.
- 26:17And they can't do anything because they can't
- 26:23figure out how to use the tool right.
- 26:26And if you can't figure out how to
- 26:27use the tool right, don't blame the tool
- 26:29manufacturer.
- 26:32Blame the person who's trying to use the
- 26:33tool.
- 26:33They've given you instructions.
- 26:35It's not our fault that you're using your
- 26:37screwdriver like a hammer, OK?
- 26:40Or your, you know, let's say, hammer to
- 26:47screw a screw in, right?
- 26:51That's a very big problem, guys.
- 26:55So again, I invite you to check out
- 26:57BelieveMeAchieved.com.
- 26:59So what's on there?
- 27:00So I've got short form content.
- 27:02I have got long form content.
- 27:04I've got articles.
- 27:05I've got reels.
