- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts. Right now.
- 0:16Welcome back to the three O take presented by Sea Kick.
- 0:17This is episode 473. I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin.
- 0:20I'm here with my Co host and Nate Reyes.
- 0:25Nate Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 0:34What what just happened? OK, I feel like I have to
- 0:39preface this by saying what I just shared with you before I
- 0:42before we hopped on. OK, so we're driving back
- 0:45tonight. So we're out.
- 0:46So I had to have it up on the phone and this is the Mets
- 0:48Brewers game. If you don't know, we're talking
- 0:50about literally driving back and Pete Alonso will obviously get
- 0:56into it. Pete Alonso hits the go ahead
- 0:57three run Homer in the bottom of the top of the ninth and I'm
- 1:03sitting there thinking to myself, and this is what I told
- 1:07you. That's one of those situations
- 1:11in which as a as a baseball fan, regardless what fit what team
- 1:15you're fan of, that's one of the situations that you go, man,
- 1:20what if fill in the blank happened and nine times out of
- 1:2310 doesn't happen because that's just the way baseball works.
- 1:26But every now and then, as baseball fans, we're lucky
- 1:29enough to witness that situation where you go, what if that
- 1:33happened and it happened and I didn't really know what I'm what
- 1:39I do with my hands. I'm still in shock.
- 1:40I'm still in shock. Unbelievable.
- 1:44I'm still in shock, dude. Like, this is just the first
- 1:49three games, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:50Like, this is just the start of this beautiful month.
- 1:54This is just the start. We insanity.
- 1:58That's a great point. I feel like as baseball fans,
- 2:00we've we've been spoiled this month like already.
- 2:03My goodness, dude. And I got to admit, a lot of
- 2:07it's, a lot of it's owed to the Mets.
- 2:09Like if we're being honest, I hate it, but I love.
- 2:13It yeah, I hate it, but I love it dude, it's just.
- 2:16Oh man. It's this.
- 2:18This is what this month is, man. That literally is what this
- 2:23month is. That huge.
- 2:25That's beautiful. What a what a just a primer for,
- 2:29I mean, you, you really could go back to the Braves and and Mets
- 2:33to close out the regular season. You could call that the primer.
- 2:36But in terms of like the postseason, we saw a handful of
- 2:39games these past few days, yeah, that I would say really set us
- 2:44up well for the rest of this month.
- 2:46And I am excited like. I'm literally I, I do you, I
- 2:55said. Should we start that series?
- 2:57Let's just call the episode. Let's just call the.
- 2:58Episode we'll just unbelievable it.
- 3:01Was good game. We'll see you guys next week.
- 3:03No, Yeah, I get. I guess it only makes sense that
- 3:06we start with that. It was last on my list here,
- 3:08obviously, given the the nature of it being the only Game 3 of
- 3:12this week. But it I guess given the nature
- 3:16of what happened, it only makes sense.
- 3:18So let's start right there. We'll start with the Brewers and
- 3:22Mets. Can I just be honest?
- 3:26I don't really. Do we really need to talk about
- 3:28the first two games like? We got we.
- 3:31OK, we'll, we'll dabble into it. I don't want to get ahead of
- 3:33ourselves here, but. I I mean, there's a couple
- 3:38things to note you and I called it on Jackson Cheerio man's
- 3:42man's is is built for this life. And overall man like I job.
- 3:51I'm still like impressed by the Brewers.
- 3:53I got to be honest, like I know they didn't pull this off and I
- 3:57know that, you know, like AI, I'm not going to say 100% Devin
- 4:03Williams, you know, kind of cough things up a little bit.
- 4:07You know, he's he hasn't been back.
- 4:08He hasn't been the whole year. I don't think, you know, a
- 4:10closer takes a long time to kind of settle in into that position
- 4:14and and build up for, you know, those moments.
- 4:17And I'm not laying excuses out for the Brewers.
- 4:21I mean they lost, but overall, like I'm still I'm still
- 4:23impressed. I really am.
- 4:25I'm impressed with with the defense they played.
- 4:28I'm impressed with the at bats like it was it was solid.
- 4:36Man. The freaking pesky Mets, man,
- 4:40they just, I hate that. This is like it's feeling
- 4:45destiny, it's feeling real, it's feeling consistent.
- 4:53Can I ask you something? Yeah.
- 4:55And I was going to wait till we actually got to the game.
- 4:57But now that we're just seemingly talking Mets
- 5:00generally, look, this is going to be a moment of accountability
- 5:07here, possibly, possibly talking about the Mets.
- 5:13You and I and A lot of other people have have ragged on the
- 5:17Mets, rightfully so. They've they've gotten in their
- 5:20own way a fair amount of times. And they, you know, as the
- 5:24saying goes, Mets are going to met.
- 5:28How many of these nail biting games do the Mets have to pull
- 5:33out or just moments in general this post season?
- 5:37How many of those do the Mets have to have before we start
- 5:40going, OK, maybe you maybe we can see the light at the end of
- 5:45the tunnel with this Mets culture.
- 5:48Call it to where this isn't necessarily the team.
- 5:51And I know like recency bias. We're like, we're like basically
- 5:55minutes off of this Pita Lonza home run.
- 5:58So I know it's still fresh and I don't want to get ahead of
- 6:00ourselves here. But like the way they wrapped up
- 6:03the regular season against the Braves, the way they they clawed
- 6:07on the road in Milwaukee, which is a a can be a tough place to
- 6:12play in the post. Season rocking.
- 6:13Let's let's be that. That was loud.
- 6:15I mean, they were there in the night.
- 6:17They were ready to shut this thing down and get the party
- 6:19going out in the streets. But I mean, again, how many
- 6:22moments do we have to have from the New York Mets for us?
- 6:25Milwaukee. For us to go probably a lot of a
- 6:29lot of cheese. How many, how many of these
- 6:32moments do we have to have before we go, OK, that this
- 6:34might be a, a, you know what? I'll, I'll, I'll take a step
- 6:39back. I won't even say looking ahead
- 6:40down the road after this year. This particular Mets team,
- 6:44though, because we, like I said, we, we keep hearing that.
- 6:47Well, the Mets are eventually going to Met and we've said
- 6:49that, but like they're now in the NLDS and they're showing,
- 6:55they're showing no signs of, of relenting, especially given the
- 6:59no, the whole no days off thing. Do I get it?
- 7:02Do I get it? They're about to have two days
- 7:04off. Well, I'm I'm just.
- 7:06Saying a day. Off without missing, without
- 7:08having that that buy, I should say.
- 7:11I I definitely understand. I definitely understand.
- 7:15What I will say is I know you and I talked about like the back
- 7:19end, the bullpen being great in the second-half.
- 7:24I just, I don't see the dominant Edwin Diaz that we're used to.
- 7:30I don't see it. And I saw a courageous coming
- 7:36out in the eighth to hold it at 2, coming out in the ninth like
- 7:42I there was it 7th and 8th. I'm getting all my games make 7
- 7:48days. He did.
- 7:51Did he do? He did 2 innings.
- 7:55I don't remember. I can't keep it.
- 7:57Not tonight you're talking about.
- 7:59You're talking about earlier in the series.
- 8:00Yeah, early in the series he did 2 innings.
- 8:03And then like tonight, I think he, I don't remember what it
- 8:09was, I don't know. But it, it just, it doesn't seem
- 8:13as dominant as, as what we're used to.
- 8:15And I know they had Stanic in the bullpen kind of ready to go,
- 8:20but like Peterson coming in for like his first relief appearance
- 8:23in a year. It's like I, I think they're
- 8:29getting by with band aids in that area.
- 8:33Everything else looks really good.
- 8:34I'm going to be honest. Like it, it does look good.
- 8:36The hitting, the timely hitting is worth noting.
- 8:41The, the solid starting pitching is worth noting.
- 8:46It's the back end where I'm like, do you have enough to get
- 8:50to the end of the month? Do you have enough back there to
- 8:55continue to put up zeros or or hold other teams down until
- 9:01you're like, the comebacks are great, but that that runs dry
- 9:07after a while? It does.
- 9:09And when you're talking 7 game sets, it's going to get
- 9:14interesting. Yeah, even this 5 gamer that's
- 9:16coming up in the NLDS like they have a shot, they always are
- 9:20going to have a shot. I'm just that's the part even
- 9:23watching these games that are I'm like a little I don't know,
- 9:27I don't know, You know on the Pete Alonzo side of things,
- 9:33there was a couple mishaps the last two games.
- 9:37It was that first and 3rd double play that he had into where was
- 9:42there was one out and he tripped on his bat and you know, like
- 9:47you, no one really knew. Like the play was at 1st and he
- 9:50wasn't even halfway down the line.
- 9:51Like what? What was that right?
- 9:52And then you look back and he tripped on his back.
- 9:54He stumbled and couldn't get out-of-the-box quick that that
- 9:59pop up in foul territory tonight.
- 10:01That was right up against the net that he thought he ran out
- 10:04of room. There turned out to be more room
- 10:06and you didn't catch it. Like there's just little things.
- 10:09And so it's like for him to have, I think they said his
- 10:13first home run in like over 40 at bats where he's gone like a a
- 10:17rough homeless streak. Like for him to have that
- 10:21moment, I think really just washes away a lot of what he's,
- 10:28you know, been dealing with. And it's it's a big confidence
- 10:33boost. And they said it on the
- 10:34broadcast like that Lindor at bat to start the 9th.
- 10:41That was. That was a professional at bat.
- 10:44Yeah, big time. We'll get into it.
- 10:46We'll get into it, but I was at the OS game yesterday or last
- 10:50night when they got eliminated and I have to say I talk about
- 10:54night and day in terms of putting up tough at bats late in
- 10:58the game. I mean, Francisco Lindor tipped
- 11:03my hat to you, my friend. That's that is the way to lead
- 11:05off an inning that late in the game.
- 11:08And Nimmo, Nimmo, to me right now, it seems like he's like,
- 11:11you're lucky to get him out. That's what I feel like.
- 11:14I feel like when he's in the box, it's like if it's if it is,
- 11:19you know, an infield little dinker, like it's a bang, bang
- 11:23play. If he's lining out to
- 11:26outfielders, like he's hitting balls hard through the infield,
- 11:28like he's a tough out right now. And I know it didn't really
- 11:35necessarily play a factor in in the 9th at all, but I mean just
- 11:41little things that they're doing.
- 11:42Winker stealing second scoring on that Marte single.
- 11:47Like there's there's that was a crazy celebration.
- 11:50By the way, did you catch that? Like wait.
- 11:52Jesse Winker being over the top like colour, colour me shocks.
- 11:57Calm down bro. Where did this come from?
- 12:00I I don't remember Jesse Winker being this way at.
- 12:02All throughout his career. Three years ago.
- 12:05It's like once he came over to the Mets, it like unleashed
- 12:08something. He somewhat had it with the Nats
- 12:10earlier this year, but like once he got traded over, it's like
- 12:15unleash. This can't bring my finger to
- 12:17when it happened, but that sounds that sounds about.
- 12:20Right. Weird.
- 12:20Every team needs that guy though.
- 12:22Every team needs like an instigator.
- 12:24That's fair. Kind of guy and I feel like he
- 12:26fits that role really well right now.
- 12:28But anyway, man, like, I know I'm just kind of rambling and
- 12:32breaking down what we all watched, but I, I, it's a team
- 12:38that like, do you know, we saw it last year in the
- 12:41Diamondbacks, like a team that just won't quit, a team that is
- 12:45getting more and more comfortable in these types of
- 12:47situations. And I think it's just like, give
- 12:52our offense a chance. That's all the pitching needs to
- 12:56do. Just give our offense a chance,
- 12:58keep us close and we'll manage something.
- 13:01We'll squeak out anything. And it's, and it's walks, it's
- 13:05stolen bases, it's hitting behind runners, it's finding
- 13:08holes. It's good base running as well.
- 13:12You know, like it, it's, it's all there.
- 13:18It's it's a lot going right. Yeah, I saw a lot of really
- 13:23this, not even not just tonight, really this series show the
- 13:26Mets. I saw a lot of playing within
- 13:28yourself, not trying to do too much, like accepting the role
- 13:32that's been placed before you in a given situation.
- 13:35Trying to do as best you can in that situation with with what
- 13:40you have, what you're able to bring to the table skill set
- 13:42wise. And teams that are able to do
- 13:45that, players that are able to do that find themselves finding
- 13:48success. More often than not, it's the
- 13:50guys. They go up there trying to do
- 13:51too much. They're trying to hit a, an 8
- 13:54run Homer when there's nobody on base that it, it doesn't work
- 13:59out. But the Mets are just figuring,
- 14:01like you said, if, if the if the staff, if the pen can find ways
- 14:05to keep them in the game, keep it close and just give the
- 14:08offense a chance and the offense is able to to play within their
- 14:12cells. That's that's a pretty good
- 14:15recipe for a win. Yeah, 100 percent, 100%, very
- 14:21impressed. I really am.
- 14:24This is I think as as good as I think the Brewers were this
- 14:29year. I think this is this is how it
- 14:32had to come down to it. You know, I mean like we, we
- 14:34needed Mets fills. Yeah.
- 14:36Oh, for sure. Yeah, this is the how it had to
- 14:39happen. I don't know why I didn't put
- 14:41two and two together. Like when we were going through
- 14:43our predictions, I was like, yeah, you know, like, yeah,
- 14:46like, 'cause I think I was just, so I was just so fixated on this
- 14:50being like a different Brewers team.
- 14:51And I was like, you know, I'm rarely going to go with the
- 14:53Brewers in it when it comes to October, but this is an
- 14:56opportunity for me to do that. So let me do that.
- 14:59And then it was like after game one, I'm, I'm, I'm drawn.
- 15:02I'm putting two and two together and I'm like, why would I not?
- 15:08Why would I not want Mets, Phillies?
- 15:09And this isn't similar to like, OK, to put it into perspective,
- 15:14like if the Brave, if this year's Braves matched up against
- 15:18the Phillies, that would do nothing for me.
- 15:20And I'm just being honest, just given the the state of that
- 15:24team. But the way that the Mets are
- 15:25playing right now to go up against the Phillies, it's not
- 15:28exactly Braves Phillies of, of last year or the year before,
- 15:32but it's still Mets Phillies. And I I with the, with just the,
- 15:37the, the mojo that the Mets have right now, that is going to be a
- 15:41good series. Can you take me through?
- 15:43I know it's been a while, but just when I think of like
- 15:47Destiny teams and stuff, like do you remember the path for the
- 15:51nationals to get to the. World Series.
- 15:55So I was at the Wild Card game when Soto clutched up.
- 16:00So they beat, they beat. Ironically, Hater was on the
- 16:04mound when that, when that happened.
- 16:05Beat the Brewers. We'll get to that.
- 16:09Beat the Brewers in the wild card game and then they went to
- 16:11oh, who was it after the Brewers?
- 16:16The Dodgers were in there somewhere.
- 16:19But was that the that would have been the NLC?
- 16:22Oh, it was the Cardinals and then the Dodgers.
- 16:27Or the Dodgers and then the Cardinals, and then obviously.
- 16:30Houston Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:34Well, I was thinking of like when I was, I was with you last
- 16:41year when the Diamondbacks went through the Dodgers in LA and it
- 16:48just just popped them in the mouth.
- 16:50I remember in that first inning, then they put up like 7 against
- 16:54Kershaw or something like that. It was like this immediate like
- 16:59if we're the team of destiny, it's almost like there's one
- 17:03team that you face. And I can't really remember the
- 17:07Brewers of the Cardinals or the Dodgers of 2019 for the
- 17:11Nationals case here. But like I think of like the
- 17:14Diamondbacks and there's like there's one team you got to
- 17:16prove it against. And I think this is the perfect
- 17:21scenario, like if the Mets are real, this is where you prove
- 17:25it. And I know that's like you still
- 17:28got to get to the NLCS and then you don't through that and
- 17:31through the World Series. But like, it's the Phillies,
- 17:33it's the best team in baseball this year in my opinion.
- 17:36And if you're real, if you're really doing this this year, it
- 17:43there has to be this, this type of opponent.
- 17:48I'm looking forward to it. I really, really am.
- 17:50That's going to be electric. We're going to we're going to
- 17:54get into a little bit of the division series preview.
- 17:57We're certainly going to get into that late in the episode.
- 17:59But to keep the theme moving along here, rap recap in the
- 18:04wild card. Do you want to switch gears
- 18:08here? You want to go?
- 18:09You just want to work backwards at this point, 'cause I had I
- 18:14had Mets, Brewers the last. So if we're going to work
- 18:16backwards, let's go Braves, Padres.
- 18:20This is a good one. This is a good one.
- 18:22Is sandwich in? Yeah, sorry.
- 18:26Yeah, we need. Where how are we at on time?
- 18:28Do we can we, is this something maybe we can just we can just
- 18:31fly right on by. I mean, look, if if you're the
- 18:35Braves, why did you even bother to show up?
- 18:38I mean, good for you I guess for for punching your ticket.
- 18:41But like we, the Padres would have been better off inner
- 18:47squatting one another these last couple days to prepare
- 18:50themselves for the Division Series rather than them play the
- 18:53Braves. I know.
- 18:55We all knew that this is how it was going to go, and the Braves
- 18:58did nothing but waste everyone's time.
- 19:01I mean, why even bother? Why bother to show up?
- 19:04You could have gotten a head start on your trip to Cancun,
- 19:07but you said no. We're going to get a little
- 19:09teaser out in San Diego to get to get warmed up for our trip to
- 19:14Cancun. And you know, good for you for
- 19:16taking the trip out there, but why'd you bother?
- 19:19I just, I didn't even feel, I didn't even feel like any kind
- 19:25of fire from that, like any kind of there was just nothing even
- 19:29towards the end of the regular season.
- 19:31Like it's just it their fan bases checked out.
- 19:35I think their own players are checked out.
- 19:39It's impressive that they even got to this point considering
- 19:43the massive injuries. And I know every team has
- 19:47injuries, but the names that they lost is detrimental.
- 19:54And I, I, I just, I just never felt any type of any way about
- 20:00them. And I think everyone knew that.
- 20:02Everyone saw that. And I think they.
- 20:04Felt it. And I think even the Padres fans
- 20:07kind of felt it. I'm sitting there watching those
- 20:09games. I'm going, this is like watching
- 20:11like a 12 you Little League team beat up on some 9 year olds.
- 20:15It's like, yeah, woo Hoo, we, you know, we won the game.
- 20:18But like, what are we really doing out here?
- 20:22I don't remember. First off, hats off to Michael
- 20:25King. Game one.
- 20:28Unbelievable. I got a little stat here for you
- 20:31that I found Michael King is the first pitcher with 12 plus KS,
- 20:35zero runs and zero walks in his first postseason start.
- 20:40Yeah, that was an absolute clinic.
- 20:42That was he's nasty, he's nasty, he was.
- 20:47I was sad to see him go and now I know the Soto trade had to
- 20:51happen. Well, let me ask you, I, I, I
- 20:54saw a lot of people and I don't know if it was like tongue in
- 20:56cheek or or, you know, taking a jab at Yankees fans, but I saw a
- 20:59lot of people being like, all things considered, it seems like
- 21:03a win, win trade. Yeah.
- 21:05Looking back, yeah, I mean, he had a great year.
- 21:08I think he threw 160, a 170 innings, sub 3 ERA like he for I
- 21:17think it's his second full season as a starter.
- 21:21I mean, it's it's impressive. The guy is legit.
- 21:25That was the hardest, hardest part for that trade for me.
- 21:28But yeah, I mean, obviously win, win.
- 21:32But yeah, unbelievable, dude. That guy is ridiculous.
- 21:35And not to mention kind of the Cliff note of that trade, Kyle
- 21:41Ogashioka. Two big bombs, dude.
- 21:46That's big time. Two big bombs.
- 21:48That's big time. Unbelievable.
- 21:52Just a very complete game and it's so crazy watching them
- 21:57defensively. I don't even know how they rank
- 22:01as like in the in defensive metrics.
- 22:04But when you think about like Solano was at first, he's
- 22:10definitely played shortstop in his career.
- 22:12Cronenworth definitely played shortstop in his career.
- 22:15Xander. Hello, Manny.
- 22:17Hello, Profar Tatis. You have an entire field of.
- 22:22Shorts athletes. Just raw athletes.
- 22:24And I know that like I'm we're biased because we were
- 22:27shortstops, but like the athleticism required to play
- 22:32that position and then you're seeing all of it just kind of
- 22:35spread out across the field is nuts, man.
- 22:38It's crazy. It's really, it's just it's very
- 22:43fun baseball to watch. Little concerned with Joe
- 22:50Musgrove. I like on a scale of one to 10.
- 22:54What do you think? So what's the latest on that
- 22:58because I was trying to, I was just keeping an eye out for
- 23:01updates on that throughout the day.
- 23:06I'm seeing his pitching, been pitching through discomfort for
- 23:09a couple weeks, but a test on his UCL left him feeling
- 23:14optimistic. Yeah, seems like a lot still up
- 23:21in the air right now. I don't think anything.
- 23:23I mean, he hasn't been ruled out or anything, at least at this
- 23:26moment. So yeah, I'm seeing UCLA test
- 23:31came back clean. So, you know, I don't know.
- 23:36Can I be honest with you though? Yeah, I feel like the Padres,
- 23:41even without Joe, Joe, this this Padres team this postseason, I,
- 23:47I think they're, I think they'll be all right.
- 23:49I really do. I agree.
- 23:51All, all fast. I mean, like you're getting
- 23:53clutch play by everybody, everybody.
- 23:58I mean, the fact that Tatis, that was the first home run of
- 24:01the the postseason at that point, like we had gone through
- 24:04a we had gone through a slate of games and then we had the finale
- 24:09that night to to close to wrap up the the day of baseball.
- 24:12And that was bottom one, bottom one, just go getting Petco
- 24:18unglued right out of the game. But yeah, I mean, it goes back
- 24:22to the just the environment, like Petco was rocking for sure.
- 24:26But just this, this, these two games, you just feel like you
- 24:30were watching an adult, an adult team watching, watch him beat up
- 24:36against some Little leaguers. It just wasn't fun, wasn't
- 24:39enjoyable. Yeah, we knew it.
- 24:41We we all saw it. We all know what's happening.
- 24:44Hey, shout out money Mike though, he gave it his he gave
- 24:47it his best go there at the end. He's like, I'm going to do what
- 24:49I can to to extend this thing. Had a had a two run bomb in the
- 24:558th to bring within a run. But alas, we have the dot the
- 25:01Padres moving on to play the Dodgers for the third time in
- 25:08the NLDS in five years. I believe I read which this one
- 25:13feel different we'll get into yeah, a little different.
- 25:19Yeah, I yeah, feels a little different.
- 25:22And we're going to get again, we're going to we're certainly
- 25:24going to be previewing the the division series, but as as we
- 25:28had it last, we're going to going to move along to another
- 25:32series. We're going to talk Royals,
- 25:34Orioles. Yes, Nate, this is my Bobby Witt
- 25:39jersey that I purchased for winning the fantasy league.
- 25:42Thank you for asking. I mean, it's super clean, as you
- 25:45can see. I mean, look at that.
- 25:47I mean, what a beauty. What, what a beauty.
- 25:53What I mean, look at that, that there's not a better the the
- 25:58black O's jersey that I witnessed in person last night.
- 26:02That's to me is the best uniform baseball.
- 26:04But I tell you what the the the Powder blue Royals Bobby Witch
- 26:09jersey is second best. Give me what I mean, give me
- 26:12some reports, give me some reports of of you know, the
- 26:16obviously Camden is is gorgeous. You know that we know that, we
- 26:20all know that, but like anything else that like.
- 26:23You want to know my tell from TV?
- 26:27Well, I'll tell you what I experienced.
- 26:30Yeah, right there in person. You may have not gathered it on
- 26:32TVI told Meredith this on the way home.
- 26:35I was like no. And and we were walking out of
- 26:39the stadium and and I I looked over and I was like, I I think
- 26:44this fan base is a little shell shocked.
- 26:46I really do. Because there was, you say what
- 26:49people can say what they want. I was there, at least from what
- 26:53I could gather. I sensed 0 hope in the ninth.
- 26:57There was no energy, there was no momentum.
- 27:01They, they handed out the route. You and I were there for the DS
- 27:04against the Rangers last year. They handed out those rally
- 27:06towels. It was pretty much the same
- 27:07thing this year. They they handed them out and
- 27:09there were moments throughout the game where they were going.
- 27:11They were getting into it, especially after that Cedric
- 27:14bomb, which I got video of the reaction that that plays.
- 27:18Where were your seats, by the way?
- 27:18Where are we sitting? We're down the third baseline.
- 27:22OK, So this was like, this was a birthday thing.
- 27:25Meredith was like, hey, for your birthday.
- 27:27Happy belated, by the way. Thank you.
- 27:29That wasn't, that wasn't a a plug, that was me just trying to
- 27:32explain, explain the situation. So yeah, so it was like a little
- 27:35impromptu because you know how the post season develops, a lot
- 27:38of times it can be like very last minute.
- 27:39So we didn't really know. What the deal was.
- 27:41Oh yeah. But she was, she was like, hey,
- 27:44we're going to go to Baltimore for the, for the wild card game.
- 27:47So take work off. We're going to, we're going to
- 27:50head down. And so she's like, I'm going to
- 27:52need you to tell me what seats you want though.
- 27:54So I'm, I'm sitting there looking and I've, I wanted to be
- 28:00on the third base side because I wanted to have a better vantage
- 28:03point of Bobby, watch him do his thing.
- 28:06And so we were along the third baseline main concourse level up
- 28:12underneath the overhang. So I mean, it was prime, prime
- 28:16seats, prime seats. But yeah, I'm sitting there in
- 28:20the 9th and we're obviously there to the end.
- 28:22But I'm, I'm sitting there in the 9th and I'm looking around.
- 28:24I'm going, I'm not a nose fan, but I, I, I can sense like more
- 28:30probably more objectively than they can do.
- 28:33They're, they're shell shocked and they're, they're fearful.
- 28:36And this was before the game was even over.
- 28:37I'm looking around going, they're fearful of repeating
- 28:40exactly what happened last year. And it had me thinking today and
- 28:44I had to ask myself this question.
- 28:46I'm sitting, I'm literally driving to where I'm like at
- 28:48work and I'm driving and I'm sitting there asking myself, how
- 28:53many more post season sweeps is it going to take for us to start
- 28:58asking, is this Baltimore Orioles team, maybe not the team
- 29:04we thought they were? And I know that may come across
- 29:07as a little, little strong, but we're looking at now five
- 29:13straight postseason losses from this at from this Orioles team
- 29:18as it's constructed. You know, the, the gunner, the
- 29:20adly, so on and so forth. How many more?
- 29:24How many more post? Seasons at home.
- 29:26At home, yeah. Because I mean, you, you you
- 29:31zoom out a little bit pre Adly, pre gunner, all that we're
- 29:35talking what do we got here? 10 straight postseason losses
- 29:40for the Orioles going back to 2014, ten straight postseason
- 29:45losses. And I'm I'm certainly not going
- 29:47to hang those those previous 5 on this current team that
- 29:50nothing they can do about it. But this team as it as it's
- 29:53constructed, five straight losses, four of those at home.
- 30:01When, when are we going to start asking the the tough questions
- 30:04with this Orioles team that maybe, just maybe they're not as
- 30:09as much of A powerhouse as we're making them out to be?
- 30:12And that's not, I love this Orioles team.
- 30:14Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this Orioles team.
- 30:16I love majority of the guys, if not all the guys on this team.
- 30:21But when are we going to start asking the tough questions
- 30:23because they need to be asked? It's a fair question.
- 30:28It's absolutely a fair question at home.
- 30:31Is disgraceful to not get at least the dub.
- 30:35Gunner Henderson went over the week.
- 30:38Yeah. I mean.
- 30:41That's what that's that's what I when we were previewing, I told
- 30:45you that Cole Reagan's from the left side game one was a genius
- 30:50because when you start switching guys, those those big switch
- 30:54hitters in Adley and and Santander, when you switch them
- 30:57to their non dominant side or they're you know, I don't know
- 31:01about Adley. I think he's still pretty good
- 31:02righty. But either way, these obviously
- 31:05got the pop on the left side. So like to switch them to the
- 31:09non dominant side to get a gunner going left on left and at
- 31:14a team that I think like already has lacked confidence for months
- 31:18now to not be able to do anything.
- 31:22Nothing in game one offensively it I think they're in for big
- 31:31changes one. Run over 18 innings.
- 31:35I think they're in for big changes.
- 31:37I think Hyde is. I think Hyde is out.
- 31:39I think it's just a matter of time.
- 31:41No, that I did you not see it today they announced, they
- 31:43announced he's coming back. Today it's been announced that
- 31:47he's coming back. How do you Why?
- 31:52Why? How?
- 31:54Couldn't tell you. Yeah, that that one may have
- 31:57slipped through the cracks. I know you're busy with work
- 31:58today, but yeah, that was a nice day.
- 32:02Couldn't tell you all. Right.
- 32:04Well, I mean, I'm curious, I'm I'm assuming burns OPS for free
- 32:11agency, right? Because he has an option?
- 32:16I think he has an option. I don't think so.
- 32:20I thought he was set. I thought he was just set to be
- 32:23a free agent. I thought he had an option.
- 32:25Thought he was UFA after this year.
- 32:27Yeah, I think things are going to look very different now.
- 32:29I know you're going to, you know, have the Orioles fans with
- 32:33excuses of not having Felix Batista this year.
- 32:36And no, no. You know, not having the back
- 32:38end of the bullpen and Craig Kimbrel not performing.
- 32:41The truth is like I think the these last few months have been
- 32:44on the offense. I really do.
- 32:46So I don't know what it's going to, what it's going to look
- 32:49like, But you know, I think things kind of have to be
- 32:53adjusted here. Things are going to have to
- 32:54change. They need more pitching as well.
- 32:58So I mean, just it's it's ugly. I don't understand the Brandon
- 33:02Hyde coming back thing. What is that about?
- 33:04I'm not, I'm that's the least of my worries, to be honest with
- 33:07you at this point. Like there's guys that are on
- 33:09the field that are are actively impacting the game or they have
- 33:15the opportunity to actively impact the game and they're just
- 33:18not. And that's more of a concern to
- 33:20me. You the fact that you have
- 33:21gunner going over the fact that Adley has just been on a brutal
- 33:25slide the last what month and a half, two months and you were
- 33:32hoping that. Sometimes there might not come
- 33:35back, you know what I mean? Like that might that guy.
- 33:38When you have a team that is going to have to commit to
- 33:41multiple young core guys, I don't think you can afford when
- 33:45you also have to address your starting pitching.
- 33:48I don't think they can afford a Santander contract this
- 33:50offseason. I think he's gone.
- 33:53That's a 40 home run guy leaving the lineup.
- 33:56See, like even this conversation that you and I are having right
- 33:58now, I hate that we're having it because it's like, because, I
- 34:02mean, you got you excited. About this team.
- 34:04You're right. I mean, you go back to our
- 34:05preseason predictions. I can't remember what what you
- 34:07had. I.
- 34:08Had them winning the division. I well, I had them in the world.
- 34:11Series in the World Series, Yeah, I think we both had
- 34:13Orioles fills, right? Yeah.
- 34:15And I think maybe we just alternated who was who was
- 34:17winning it. But like I, I don't think we're
- 34:20the only ones that had that situation.
- 34:21And here we are talking two games.
- 34:24We saw them for two games, lifeless games, again, one run
- 34:30over 18 innings. And I saw, I saw a tweet and I
- 34:34rarely do I literally laugh out loud when I'm at the office.
- 34:38But I read this tweet where it said I want to congratulate the
- 34:41Orioles on their postseason run. And by run, I mean the singular
- 34:44run that they scored in Game 2. And I saw that.
- 34:48And I'm like. That's.
- 34:50Good. I hate that I'm laughing at the
- 34:51expense of this team right now, but I mean, at some point there
- 34:55has to be some accountability and like the IT would I just I
- 34:59can't, I can't believe that we're sitting here talking about
- 35:01the Orioles season being done. I, I can't and I, I don't mean
- 35:04to like focus on them and take away from what the Royals said.
- 35:06The Royals. Royals are playing.
- 35:09The Royals are doing what they do and it's and it's play really
- 35:14good defense, it's really good pitching and Bobby is going to
- 35:21impact the game offensively in one way or another.
- 35:24He had both go ahead runs or both game-winning hits.
- 35:30I believe in in both games. Both with two outs I believe as
- 35:35well. Yeah, the one was the one.
- 35:38In game two, game one was the game one was that single up the
- 35:41middle and then he legged out Game 2.
- 35:45Yeah, man, speed, his defense. I know it's easy to look at
- 35:53gunner and and say like, oh, like, you know, shortstop in
- 35:56Baltimore. We see Cal Ripken all over
- 35:58again. I see more of Cal Ripken and
- 36:01Bobby Witt junior than than anybody.
- 36:03The specifically defensively it it looks good.
- 36:11It looks really, really good in the hole.
- 36:16The slow rollers where he's he's going like slightly bare hand
- 36:20side throwing against his body like and he's very comfortable
- 36:24throwing underneath. I had Nerd out on a lot of that
- 36:28and it reminds me a lot of Cal. I see.
- 36:31I'll be honest with you, I see a lot of Nomar in Bobby just
- 36:34because I, because I, I mean, you look at Nomar's athleticism
- 36:38compared to Cows and it's not a knock against Cow, but Cow was
- 36:40just a massive guy. Cow was big and and you can only
- 36:44move. So I'm talking, I'm talking
- 36:47younger shortstop Cal sure. No, versus the shoulder Cal that
- 36:51you know we saw him move to 3rd. Cal laying out, yeah, to to his
- 36:55left or right. I see that.
- 36:57I mean, you, you see Bobby get the balls that that most guys
- 37:00can't get to. It's just it, it's very, it's
- 37:02very fun to watch, man. It's very fun to watch.
- 37:05But yeah, I mean, look, the Royals, yeah, they look good.
- 37:12Quick little shot at at Ryan Ripken for his his little wild
- 37:16card, you know, prediction saying that, you know, the
- 37:20Orioles aren't scared to go to New York.
- 37:22Well, too bad. We won't have to worry about
- 37:25that, Ryan. So.
- 37:28They might have to go in street clothes at this point if they
- 37:30want to go to New York, sadly. Oh, man.
- 37:35By the way, did you I I'm sure you were watching.
- 37:37Did you see Ryan our our different friend Ryan behind
- 37:40home plate last night? Yeah.
- 37:42Calvin and Calvin and the Kid. Yeah, Lance texts a lot during
- 37:48the game. I don't know if you noticed.
- 37:49That that's a busy man. He's got a lot going on.
- 37:52He's probably, he's probably setting up his his podcast
- 37:58schedule for the rest of the year, watching Game A.
- 38:01Lot going on, a lot going on. Do you see do you see the clip
- 38:05floating around on Twitter today of his reaction to Cedric's home
- 38:07run? Cedric makes contact with I
- 38:09think Rocco tweeted it out. Shout out Rocco tweeted out the
- 38:13slow MO video of Ryan reacting to the Cedric gets into it and
- 38:17he's like and he like gets up out of his seat.
- 38:22Meanwhile, Cal is just like. Yeah.
- 38:25Classic Cal Meredith, Meredith looked at over at me multiple
- 38:28times because I was like, yeah, Cal is on areas with Ryan and,
- 38:31and and the rest of the crew. And she was, she was like, does
- 38:35Cal ever cheer? I was like, no, Cal not so much.
- 38:39And and then she was like, she was like, does he do you think
- 38:42he waves the rally towel? And I was like, no, he doesn't.
- 38:45He's he's no, no John, no shot. Yeah, he especially has no
- 38:50reason this year to be waving it because I mean, talk about talk
- 38:54about a team that let him down. That's what I was going to ask
- 38:57you because like I know we talked about, I think you and I
- 39:00both picked this as like the most looking forward to series
- 39:03of the wild card options. I think this is the biggest
- 39:06disappointment. I mean, this is brutal.
- 39:09It was a Outside of Corbin Burns, I have nothing positive
- 39:14to say about the Orioles. I'm I'm legitimately trying to
- 39:19think like gunner. I mean, talking about defense
- 39:22from gunner like he he he got to some balls that were, you know,
- 39:28makes you turn your head a little bit.
- 39:30But outside of there just wasn't.
- 39:32And going back to the Cedric thing, I'm, I'm sitting there
- 39:35thinking last night as I'm watching, I'm go, how ironic is
- 39:37it that the guy that these fans wanted to run out of town
- 39:40because of how poorly he was hitting this year is the guy
- 39:43that contributes the only run that the team scores in the wild
- 39:47card series? That's bad, dude.
- 39:50I mean, I'm sitting there, I'm watching and I'm going.
- 39:53Surely Cedric Mullins is not going to be the guy to hit the
- 39:55home run. Yeah.
- 40:01I I don't, I'm not out on this Orioles team, but I'm going to
- 40:03need to take AI think. I if they run it back next year
- 40:09with minimal offseason moves, I'm very much questioning what's
- 40:15happening here. I need to take a break from
- 40:18these these baby OS. I just, I don't want ownership
- 40:21to come in and and not rock the boat too much.
- 40:25I don't want that to be the mentality.
- 40:27You know what I mean? Come in, change things.
- 40:31You have a culture. The problem is now is that you
- 40:35have a fan base that has expectations.
- 40:37It's been fun, right? It's been fonded.
- 40:41Watch, you know, all this youth and promise finally start to
- 40:49develop in front of our eyes. But now, moving forward, there's
- 40:53expectations. Go out and get some proven
- 40:55talent enough. Enough fun to do some stuff.
- 40:58Yeah, they got to do some stuff. They got to spend some money.
- 41:03Hey, Speaking of youth, OK, let's talk about these tigers.
- 41:08Let's talk about these tigers. I got to be honest, man, that
- 41:12this one had me cheesing. I was, you know what?
- 41:17Hey, I was glad. I was super glad to be wrong
- 41:19here. Yeah, I was just about to say
- 41:21I'm happy to take the yell on this prediction.
- 41:24And honestly, I I knew that if people were going to come at us
- 41:27for our our picks on that graphic that I posted before all
- 41:30these games started, I was like, you know what, have at it.
- 41:33Like I'm, I'm more than happy to, like you said, I'm more than
- 41:36happy to be wrong here. That mean this was a fun like
- 41:39granted, it was a sweep, but like this was a fun.
- 41:45You can like you can always make the argument for the Royals and
- 41:47the Orioles. You could maybe depend upon
- 41:50where you where you're at between those teams.
- 41:52You could say like you and I both had them going into I
- 41:56think, or at least you did. I don't remember if I finalized
- 41:59on two or three the Royals Orioles series.
- 42:03We both said 2. Did we both said two?
- 42:05OK, so like you and I can look at that and go it's sort of
- 42:08predictable, but like, you know, the Orioles might put up a
- 42:11fight. This was the Tigers Astros
- 42:15series was fun because I don't think this this outcome was on
- 42:19the mind too many people. I mean to go into Houston and
- 42:22just take 2 immediately and get out of.
- 42:24Town, I think, I think a lot of people, including us, said game
- 42:27one Tigers can do it. Scubal, I'm going to give them
- 42:31the edge there. I just.
- 42:33And for the record, remember when I played, when I played
- 42:35devil's advocate and I was like, why are we just get, why are we
- 42:38chalking up Tarek Scubal as an automatic win?
- 42:40They got Framber, but remember I walked it back and I said with
- 42:45that said I'm giving terrorism the win in game one and he went
- 42:48out and he went out and did his thing.
- 42:51Yeah, I think my biggest take away, I kind of mentioned this
- 42:56same thing earlier, but like their biggest runs were with two
- 43:01outs, their biggest runs game one.
- 43:07I think it was just like single you to death and get those three
- 43:13runs across all RBI. Singles.
- 43:16The three runs I scored? Yep.
- 43:18And then obviously the big moment of Ibania is against
- 43:22hater was that two out double down the line?
- 43:27In game. Two, yeah, yeah.
- 43:28And that's like that's the, that's the story, right?
- 43:31Those, I mean, those are the runs.
- 43:33That's basically the biggest moments offensively for them.
- 43:39Well, not to not to skip ahead to game two.
- 43:41I want to I want to touch on something real quick in game one
- 43:43that I I immediately thought of you when it happened bases
- 43:47loaded in the bottom of the ninth two outs, Jason Hayward
- 43:53steps to plate. And I immediately went back to
- 43:55what you said when this acquisition happened where you
- 43:57said. He's going to have a moment You.
- 43:59Know that he's going to have a moment in the postseason.
- 44:02I said talk about a moment. Yeah, talk about a moment.
- 44:06You have an opportunity in game one right away to set the tone
- 44:10for your team for the remainder of the month.
- 44:12Should you? Should you advance that far.
- 44:14I. Hit a freaking rocket though.
- 44:16Oh man, I hit a rocket. I thought that was it.
- 44:19I thought that was it. That was a Lena.
- 44:23Unbelievable. Yeah.
- 44:27Yeah, but but then going to game two, you said that you were
- 44:31talking about the story of Andy Banya's bass is clearing double.
- 44:35Certainly the story there. But I what I don't want to get
- 44:37lost here is Hunter Brown. His efforts on the mound went
- 44:42five and 1/3, had 9 K's and and then you have to remember the
- 44:49five and 2/3. Excuse me, I don't know if I
- 44:51said 5 and a third. You have to remember that this
- 44:56is a season in which he had some ups and downs, where he had
- 44:59some. People.
- 45:00He had some fantasy for a while and that was interesting.
- 45:04Yeah, include you had people including us talk about like,
- 45:07you know, maybe it's time to to step away from the Hunter Brown
- 45:11hype train for a moment and you wonder, OK, how how is the ups
- 45:15and downs of the season going to play out in the postseason?
- 45:18And that mean as best as he could have done.
- 45:21He he showed up and showed out only gave up a run over those
- 45:24five and 2/3. But the 9 KS is what was
- 45:26impressive, especially you talk about a pesky Tigers team to to
- 45:30get swings and misses like that. I mean, that's tip of the cap to
- 45:34Hunter Brown. Yeah, for sure.
- 45:38It's just it seemed like a little lack of depth offensively
- 45:47that we're not normally used to seeing from the Astros.
- 45:51No offense against, you know, like a Jason Hayward or, you
- 45:54know, a Carrantini. I think Yiner Diaz did not come
- 46:02through in a few moments. There was a couple opportunities
- 46:06that he had that he didn't come through in it.
- 46:11Just it just didn't feel like the offense was really clicking
- 46:17and going for the Astros. But interested to see how things
- 46:23go from here. Was this, you know, the last
- 46:26time we see Alex Bregman in an Astros uniform?
- 46:29That's that's a big question for me.
- 46:31I don't know if you saw his tweet and I don't know, I mean,
- 46:33I don't know if it even makes sense to read into, but he it
- 46:36was something to the effect. I think it was just like, thank
- 46:39you, Houston, Nothing else. He just said thank you, Houston.
- 46:42So I don't know if that's just like a like AI don't know if
- 46:44he's done that in the past or? If this is a different tells me
- 46:47that just like a just in case, you know, just in case, just in
- 46:50case you don't you never know how things shake out.
- 46:53That that to me seems like a guy that's just willing to, you
- 46:56know, listen, listen to the offers and he's going to have
- 46:59some offers a rough start to the season, but I think he ended up
- 47:03similar to the back of his baseball card.
- 47:06So and he was what I don't know, maybe 6 inches away from lifting
- 47:12that ball into the Crawford seats and probably changing the
- 47:16vibe a little bit end up just being a long single.
- 47:20So yeah, it's I'm interested to see and what happens with the
- 47:27with the Astros. I did see an update that
- 47:30Verlander is not retiring, which is interesting.
- 47:35Yeah, yeah. I mean, you have to imagine a
- 47:36guy like that with his resume probably doesn't want to go out
- 47:40like this. Does that bug you?
- 47:43Does it bug you when, when announcements like this come out
- 47:47so close, like there's such a such like a like, not just
- 47:53players, but like even with the Orioles thing, with like the
- 47:55Brandon Hyde thing, like can we, why don't we take some time
- 47:58before we just come out with these things?
- 48:00Like can we get out of the emotional state after a loss
- 48:04before we just publicly announce?
- 48:06Things well, I, I, I think that's exactly why I can't speak
- 48:10for the Verlander situation, nor can I really speak for the
- 48:13Brandon Hyde. This is more of just like a
- 48:14guess, but my my guess is that they're trying to do just that.
- 48:19They're trying to avoid the emotional state kicking in to
- 48:24where, I mean, people were doing it the second the final outs
- 48:26made. Yeah, that I mean, I was I was
- 48:29walking through the concourse and people were just, I mean,
- 48:33just ripping in the hide. And so I think I think the
- 48:36reason maybe that happened so close is that business decision
- 48:39was probably made before these games even happened.
- 48:42And they're just like, let's see how it goes.
- 48:44But this is what's going to happen in 2025.
- 48:48We'll we'll see how this wild card series goes.
- 48:50I don't know. And then the games are over.
- 48:52And then they go, well, let's not let any narratives build.
- 48:55Let's not let reporters get their their turn at the, you
- 49:01know, to to just RIP into this guy.
- 49:04Let's just take care of this right away so people are clear
- 49:07as to what's happened moving forward.
- 49:09I don't know. It's hard to say.
- 49:10Yeah. It's just strange.
- 49:12Let it, let it, let it die out a little bit.
- 49:14Let it. Let's come down.
- 49:17Speaking of dying out, what's what do we think the deals with
- 49:19Josh Hader? Because I've got a little he
- 49:27didn't. Start the inning, Did he?
- 49:29I don't think he started the inning.
- 49:32I think there was one or two guys on when he came in.
- 49:35Yeah, it was. Well, Presley got hit with the
- 49:37loss. So it was, it would have been,
- 49:39it would have been Presley, but a lot I saw a lot of, I saw a
- 49:43lot of back and forth about Josh Hader and his ability or like
- 49:46his, his well, yeah, his ability to make things happen in the big
- 49:51moments. I saw I had to go back and look
- 49:54at his post season numbers because I I wanted to zoom out a
- 49:57little bit and look beyond because people are talking like
- 49:59I'm seeing the memes already like Josh Hader in 2024.
- 50:02And it's like that picture of Jose Bautista and like, and I
- 50:06don't remember what uniform he's wearing, but essentially
- 50:09implying that he's washed. And so I was like, well, let me
- 50:14let me zoom out here and and look at the big picture here.
- 50:16Josh Hader in nine postseason series, postseason series has a
- 50:22career ERA of 164. He has a 33 to six career K to
- 50:29walk ratio in the postseason. He only has four earned runs
- 50:34charged to his name. So like, I do understand that
- 50:37like with inherited runners and all of that, I understand that
- 50:39that's certainly a factor here. But just in terms of what he's
- 50:44doing individually, I don't know how much of this is like, oh,
- 50:52well, haters wash. Career wise, yeah, he's had a
- 50:57couple not so great moments. But like, at the end of the day,
- 51:01I'm, I'm not, I'm not putting all of this on Josh Hater.
- 51:07I'm not. I don't, I didn't really feel
- 51:10that way. I think it's, it's an
- 51:12interesting move. It's it's interesting to go.
- 51:17I know you were so quick to get to the closer like we and, and I
- 51:21know that the the new idea of just getting to that closer at
- 51:30the biggest moment versus not necessarily always saving him
- 51:34for the 9th and saving him for the close.
- 51:36When we need them is when we need them.
- 51:40I just thought it was interesting that you're not
- 51:44giving him an opportunity to start with a clean inning
- 51:49because you've I've seen, I've seen hater countless times give
- 51:54up a double like that to a lead off guy and then that guy's
- 51:57stuck at second. I've seen that a million times
- 52:00out of him. So it's like I, I don't know,
- 52:03it's just it's a tough moment to come into.
- 52:07Also at the same time, if you leave a Presley in or bring
- 52:10someone else in and hater's still in the bullpen and that
- 52:13happens. Not the best look, you know what
- 52:17I mean? So it's like I it's it's a
- 52:19difficult situation. I think the right button was
- 52:21pressed. It's just it's not easy.
- 52:26Closers are are, you know, we're all creatures that have it in
- 52:30the game. But like closers are for sure
- 52:33and not having a clean inning to start with in in clear basis to
- 52:37start with is is interesting. That's all.
- 52:39It's just a tough moment. Which brings me to a point that
- 52:45I was hoping that we could get to you.
- 52:46You think back on some of the the bigger moments that Josh
- 52:51Hader maybe didn't come through. We mentioned the Nats back in
- 52:542019. He was on the hill for that.
- 52:56You'd think back to this moment against the Tigers nationals
- 53:01proven to be a team of destiny in 2019.
- 53:04The way that the Tigers are playing in 2024.
- 53:07I look I, I, I understand the Mets are are are pushing hard
- 53:11for that title of team of destiny right now with the way
- 53:13they're playing. And to be fair, maybe we give
- 53:17them the the the early advantage out of the out of the wild card
- 53:21gate if you will. But I'm not going to rule out
- 53:24the Tigers as being a possible team of destiny here because as
- 53:28as great as the Mets series was and the as great as their effort
- 53:33was to go into Milwaukee on the road and to take game three,
- 53:37which I I would argue more pressure there.
- 53:41The Tigers went into Houston, Houston and took, like I said,
- 53:47took 2 immediately before the Astros even knew what happened.
- 53:54And now they're on to the Division Series.
- 53:57So like kind of transition here from hater to like bigger
- 54:02picture Tigers team of destiny. What do we think as we
- 54:09transition now to looking ahead to the division series?
- 54:13Because we have, we have the Tigers lining up against the
- 54:16Guardians. That's a familiar foes, you
- 54:24know, Very familiar. It's it's going to be
- 54:29interesting. I think there you're always
- 54:32curious on like a team that is hot versus the first round by
- 54:37team and like how dominant is that first round by team?
- 54:41How dominant are the guardians? Like, if we're going to sit back
- 54:45and really ask that question, how dominant are they?
- 54:50Are they gettable? The fact that.
- 54:55We're go over the tigers. The fact that we're asking that
- 54:58question about the guardians tells you what you need to know.
- 55:01And I'm not trying to hint here at any any predictions coming
- 55:04down the pipe here in just a minute.
- 55:06But like that I had that same exact thought.
- 55:09I'm going once again, we're now revisiting the topic of would
- 55:14you rather be a wild card team that advances or would you
- 55:17rather be a first round bye team that gets the rest?
- 55:21And what is that dynamic look like?
- 55:23How does how does one team respond versus the other?
- 55:28And like you said, with the way the Tigers are playing.
- 55:31Keep it rolling, you know. I, you know, I, I still have my
- 55:35thoughts about the Mets. They've they're, they're
- 55:37continuing to prove me wrong. The the over the last week or
- 55:40so, to me, the Detroit Tigers are a team of destiny because
- 55:47you look at a team like the Tigers, a team of destiny.
- 55:50There's one every single year, it seems, if not every year,
- 55:55just about every year. It doesn't matter if there's
- 55:58holes in the lineup. It doesn't matter if there's
- 55:59holes in the rotation and the bullpen on the base pass.
- 56:03They figure out ways to plug the holes and to advance the machine
- 56:09forward and the Tigers are continuing to do that.
- 56:13They took Terex Scubble, they plugged him into game one,
- 56:16shockingly. I know, crazy.
- 56:18You throw Tarek Scubble out there Game 1, he does what Tarek
- 56:21Scubble does Game 2. AJ Hinch said we're going to
- 56:25unleash chaos from the pen in game two.
- 56:28You and I go. I don't know that that sounds a
- 56:31little risky to me. As good as your pen is to go
- 56:34into, to say you're going to go into Houston and unleash chaos
- 56:37from the pen. Bold move, Cotton.
- 56:39Let's see if it pays off. What does the bullpen do?
- 56:42They go in and unleash chaos offensively.
- 56:46They're coming up with the big hits.
- 56:48The emotion is plain for the Tigers.
- 56:53You look at the what you look at the formula that's that's
- 56:55required to be considered a team of destiny, and you look at the
- 56:59previous teams over previous seasons that have have fit that
- 57:02bill. I don't see how the Detroit
- 57:04Tigers are any different. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 57:07I hear you. I definitely hear you.
- 57:10Especially when you look at who they play next and that's you.
- 57:14You chalk that up. That's one step closer.
- 57:16You know what I mean? If you're the Detroit Tigers,
- 57:18you're not scared of the guardians.
- 57:20If anything that you know, the pressure is on the guardians.
- 57:26I kind of like it. I kind of like it.
- 57:28You mentioned a big name. It's AJ Hinch, man.
- 57:34Like I, I think when you're talking about a team that has
- 57:39any type of destiny, when you're talking about a team that may
- 57:42have some gaps, may, you know, lack certain things when you
- 57:47have a manager that's been there, done that and it's calm,
- 57:50cool, collected. Bingo.
- 57:52And I think you're starting to sell me a little bit.
- 58:00I like the Guardians, man, Like I do, I think these guys are
- 58:03very good. I I really, I'm really looking
- 58:06forward to this series. I like as a, if you're just, you
- 58:10know, a regular old baseball fan and you're a fan of like games
- 58:15being played the right way and all facets of the game being
- 58:19included, this is the series for you, man.
- 58:23This is the series. I mean, you want to talk
- 58:25pedigrees of these teams, you can make the argument that this
- 58:30is, on paper at least, this will be the least entertaining series
- 58:33of the four. You're talking about Matt
- 58:35Phillies, You're talking Royal, You're talking Bobby Witt, Aaron
- 58:39Judge on the same field. What yet?
- 58:41Again, Padres, Dodgers, Yeah, this is like the least
- 58:46marketable series, I agree, but I think we're.
- 58:50We're amped for it. I think it's, I think it's going
- 58:53to be very, very good baseball. Timely hitting, bunting, stolen
- 58:59bases, hit and runs, scoring from first in the gap.
- 59:04I mean, just good defense, good pitching.
- 59:06Like it's going to have every aspect of the game.
- 59:09Great managers. Say what you will about AJ
- 59:12Hinch, he's a great manager. Stephen Vogt should win manager
- 59:18of the year in my opinion. Like, this is a very good series
- 59:24man. Yeah, you take the whole, I know
- 59:28this is going to rub people the wrong way.
- 59:29You take the whole scandal out of the picture.
- 59:32For AJ Hinch, you're looking at 2 very bright baseball minds.
- 59:35And I know, yeah, I use that phrase a lot.
- 59:37But like, there aren't as many of those in the game as you
- 59:40might think. And, and for me, there are
- 59:43certain, like you have to check certain boxes to be considered
- 59:47like a a brilliant baseball mind.
- 59:49You can't just be a guy that reads the recommendations from
- 59:53upstairs. You can't just be a guy that
- 59:55relies on on percentages or matchups.
- 1:00:00You have to have that that it factor.
- 1:00:04You have to have that that gut feel for the game and that that
- 1:00:08finger on the pulse. And Stephen Vogt has already
- 1:00:10shown you not just in his playing career, but what he's
- 1:00:14done as a as a, as a manager as well.
- 1:00:17He has that. And you know, AJ Hinge has that
- 1:00:20as well. So I mean, for for no other
- 1:00:24reason but managers, you could argue that this is just a, a
- 1:00:27yeah, going to be a, a good series.
- 1:00:29I was curious on on overall record throughout the year.
- 1:00:33Tigers are six and seven against the Guardians this year.
- 1:00:39Right down the middle of the road, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:40As as middle as you can get with this new 13 game, you know, in
- 1:00:44Division series sets. Who you thinking?
- 1:00:48How many games with that said middle middle of the middle of
- 1:00:52the road here. And look, I know, but and and
- 1:01:00don't I'm going to I'm going to say to not let me influence your
- 1:01:04picks. But I know by me saying that
- 1:01:06that it like ironically influences your picks.
- 1:01:09But like feel free to like we don't have to.
- 1:01:12Don't let me trying to sell you on the Tigers as a team of
- 1:01:15destiny lead you to pick the Tigers.
- 1:01:17Because I'm worried that like we're going to we're going to
- 1:01:19end up at the end of this with like the same amount of or same
- 1:01:22picks or whatever. And if we do like so be it.
- 1:01:24But like, feel free to go like if if you've been, if you've had
- 1:01:28narratives running in your mind or like gut feels about certain
- 1:01:31teams to this point, run with that.
- 1:01:33Yeah, I get it. I mean that that goes without
- 1:01:38saying, but I just want to remind you.
- 1:01:39I'm going Guardians in four. Are you really OK?
- 1:01:44Class A does not let that kind of stuff happen.
- 1:01:51That's just not going to happen. And again, when you shorten a
- 1:01:54game and it's not sexy, I don't think either of these teams do
- 1:02:01it in a very sexy way. Not a whole lot of pop.
- 1:02:05Granted, the Guardians are great at home and and whatever's
- 1:02:08happening in that in that ballpark right now power wise, I
- 1:02:12don't know if it's going to be addressed, but the balls fly in
- 1:02:15there that I just I I think they have very similar styles
- 1:02:22offensively. I think the guardians are
- 1:02:26guardians are just quietly good. I'll give the Tigers the for
- 1:02:32I'll give the Tigers game one. I think the Tigers will get game
- 1:02:35one just based on vibes and and how they've been rolling.
- 1:02:39But I'm going, I'm going Guardians and four.
- 1:02:46Guardians, with all due respect, you can take your days off and
- 1:02:49shove it. I'm taking the Tigers are hot
- 1:02:52and I'm running. I'm rolling with the Tigers.
- 1:02:55I'm rolling with the Tigers. I can't in one breath call them
- 1:02:58a team of destiny and then in the same breath say, yeah, but
- 1:03:02you're going to run into a division rival.
- 1:03:04And then and that's where the that's where the road ends.
- 1:03:06Sorry, I I can't do it. Tigers.
- 1:03:08I'm taking the Tigers. And how many games?
- 1:03:19It's got to be 5. I'll go five.
- 1:03:21Yeah. I mean, you mentioned Class A
- 1:03:22like Class A, it has to be a factor here.
- 1:03:25And I'm not I, I can't foresee anything going South if he is on
- 1:03:30the mound and I'm I would imagine he's.
- 1:03:33Literally won't. It hasn't happened in over a
- 1:03:35year or so, but the man is. Unbelievable.
- 1:03:40Yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to go, I'm going to go Tigers in
- 1:03:42five. I'm going to give the Guardians
- 1:03:44a respect. I'm going to especially give
- 1:03:45Stephen Vogt the respect he's earned in in a short amount of
- 1:03:48time. But I'm the I, I'm telling you,
- 1:03:52I'm telling you, the more that we see this expanded post season
- 1:03:57and the, and the structure as it's constructed, I'm, I'm
- 1:04:01losing more and more faith in the first round by not, not
- 1:04:06necessarily the team, but the, the, the institution of the
- 1:04:11first round by and, and the effects that it has on a team.
- 1:04:14Not all teams. I, I, I do my best to look at it
- 1:04:17by a case by case basis. But given the way I feel about
- 1:04:21the Tigers right now and the guardians is as much respect as
- 1:04:25I think they've earned. They've they've been one of the
- 1:04:27better teams in baseball this year.
- 1:04:28It's it's that it's just not as much of A threat to me that can
- 1:04:35outweigh the potential negative effects of a first round buy, if
- 1:04:39that makes sense. Sure, Yeah, I get it.
- 1:04:41Good series. It's going to be great.
- 1:04:43It's going to be very good Baseball, if you can, if you're
- 1:04:46going to nerd out on the little stuff, if you're a fan of of
- 1:04:49home runs, if you're a fan of long ball, if you're a fan of
- 1:04:52new age baseball, you know, that's OK.
- 1:04:55But this is a this is a matchup that's going to provide a lot of
- 1:04:59old school style. Let's talk Mets Phillies.
- 1:05:09Let's talk some Mets Phillies. This should be.
- 1:05:12This could be good too. Man, this is going to be a great
- 1:05:14postseason. That's what I'm saying, dude.
- 1:05:17You looking at these four division series matchups and
- 1:05:20again, you can make the argument that the Tigers Guardians as
- 1:05:23good as we think it's going to be.
- 1:05:25And for like for all the reasons we just laid out, you could make
- 1:05:27your argument that this would be the least entertaining or to use
- 1:05:30a better word, the the least marketable series of the four.
- 1:05:35So the really from from here on out, these other three series, I
- 1:05:38mean, we're talking about very, very marquee type baseball here.
- 1:05:45And the fact that we don't get to watch all of these teams play
- 1:05:48in prime time is a real shame. But you know, something's got to
- 1:05:51give. I know I'm going to be useless
- 1:05:53this weekend. I'm not moving, dude.
- 1:05:56Oh, the imprint on the couch is just going to be Nate shaped for
- 1:06:0148 hours. It's going to be great.
- 1:06:05I look the Mets, as much as I hate it, are rolling.
- 1:06:18Rolling. They are moving right now.
- 1:06:21Is he going to they? Are they?
- 1:06:23Are doing things that it's just kind of shocks you and they have
- 1:06:30vibes, they have energy. You're going to pull the rug out
- 1:06:36from underneath us, aren't you? Are you going meds?
- 1:06:41No, I'm going Phillies. Hey, I'm going Phillies, Phil's.
- 1:06:47Phil's right. I'm going to.
- 1:06:50I'm going to have to say 5. I'm going to have to say 5, but
- 1:06:55I think the Phil's just pitching is too good.
- 1:07:02Then they have every bit of the lineup that the Mets do and then
- 1:07:06some. So I Wheeler has been
- 1:07:13unbelievable the all year, but specifically the last couple
- 1:07:17months. I just the vibes in in Philly
- 1:07:22are going to be rocking like the Eagles have a lot of question
- 1:07:26marks around them and I think everybody is just all in on the
- 1:07:30Phillies, all chips to the middle of the table in
- 1:07:34Philadelphia. On the red team and it's it
- 1:07:37we're, we've arrived again at that point of the year where the
- 1:07:40whole I saw it on Twitter today. I've seen all these accounts
- 1:07:44who's got and I I've even thrown it out there just for kicks, but
- 1:07:47I know the answer. But I'm seeing all these all
- 1:07:49these people put out like who's got the best playoff atmosphere?
- 1:07:52Stop, stop asking that question. Stop suggesting Petco, stop
- 1:07:59suggesting Dodger Stadium. Everyone knows who has the best
- 1:08:04post season atmosphere and it's none of those teams.
- 1:08:09It's in Philadelphia. I don't know why this
- 1:08:14conversation needs to come up every single year.
- 1:08:19As long as this team, as long as this fan base exists in the
- 1:08:28harmony that it is, it's the answer.
- 1:08:32Now, when you get guys like you get guys like Bryce and, and
- 1:08:35Cassianos and, and Trey, when those guys start falling out of
- 1:08:39the picture, OK, we can revisit it.
- 1:08:42But as of right now, the, the, the movement that's taking place
- 1:08:46in Philly right now, that's the answer.
- 1:08:48So let's just put that to bed. OK, We'll, we'll just put that
- 1:08:51to bed. They're just so deep.
- 1:08:55They're so deep and we've seen it post season after post
- 1:08:58season. Like big moments from names that
- 1:09:03aren't Bryce Harper, that aren't Kyle Schwarber.
- 1:09:08You have big moments from Bryson Stock.
- 1:09:11You're going to see something out of Brandon Marsh, I
- 1:09:13guarantee it. At some point.
- 1:09:15You're going to see something out of Alec Baum.
- 1:09:18You're you're just looking at so many different names that are
- 1:09:23capable of doing things. I, it's hard to go against it,
- 1:09:28man. And it's like, like I was saying
- 1:09:31before, I I just don't see, I don't see enough talent wise on
- 1:09:42the Mets side that's going to be able to overcome this.
- 1:09:48To me it's you know, I'm I'm sitting there talking about like
- 1:09:56the effects that the first John by has on a team and how I do my
- 1:09:59best to look at it by a case by case.
- 1:10:01I'm not just like coming out with this generalization, this
- 1:10:04like sweeping declaration that, oh, I think the rule supplies
- 1:10:09here. The rule does not.
- 1:10:11To me at least the the rule does not apply to the Phillies.
- 1:10:15Whether they come out sluggish we've yet to see.
- 1:10:19But as it stands right now with the way with the C, regardless
- 1:10:24of the slides, they've had their body of work over the course of
- 1:10:26162. I'm not worried about this team
- 1:10:29going into game one. We'll see and especially we'll
- 1:10:33see how it pairs up against this Mets magic.
- 1:10:35It seems to be rising to the surface, but I'm I'm not worried
- 1:10:41about it as as much for the Phillies.
- 1:10:45So with that said, I'm probably going to go Phillies in four.
- 1:10:53Pho Phillies in pho what I say I said 5, right?
- 1:10:59Yeah, I think I'm comfortable with that.
- 1:11:03So you've got guardians in. 4. Four.
- 1:11:10You've got Phillies in five. OK, I'm going Phillies in four.
- 1:11:15Let's talk Royals Yanks the two and #1 and #2 Aaron Judge, Bobby
- 1:11:27Witt respectively in in the ALMVP discussion, they returned
- 1:11:34to the same field yet again. We saw a little taste remind me
- 1:11:37it was like at the end of September to like mid mid to
- 1:11:40late September we saw. Mid-september, yeah.
- 1:11:43Yeah, so we get to see these two bright stars return to the same
- 1:11:48diamond, which I'm I'm very excited to watch game one, The
- 1:11:54you have the probables of Michael Walker versus Garrett
- 1:11:57Cole. Obviously, Garrett Cole's going
- 1:11:59game one, but the Royals have, at least the last I checked,
- 1:12:03have, have decided that they're going Michael Walker game one.
- 1:12:08The bigger, the bigger thing we need to talk about here, and I
- 1:12:10tweeted about it, is what's really at stake here.
- 1:12:14Like, forget the Yankees trying to get back to the World Series.
- 1:12:17Forget the Royals trying to extend this magic run.
- 1:12:20The Will Smith World Series streak is at stake.
- 1:12:23It's a big point, very big point.
- 1:12:27Some might even argue the biggest, the biggest thing at
- 1:12:29stake here in this 2024 postseason across the board.
- 1:12:33I'm not saying it. Some are saying it.
- 1:12:36That's fair, That's fair. How do you feel about this
- 1:12:40series though? All jokes aside, obviously the
- 1:12:43resident Yankees fan here. The the unashamed Yankees fan.
- 1:12:47Well, ashamed at some time, at some points, based on how they
- 1:12:50play. For sure, for sure.
- 1:12:58I feel good. I think this week was probably
- 1:13:03the best possible outcome for Yankees for the Orioles and the
- 1:13:09Astros to get put down for. And I know you got to get
- 1:13:14through the Royals, but I, I just, there's something about
- 1:13:17those two teams that give the Yankees fits.
- 1:13:21Obviously the Astros for, you know, a long time now, 7-8
- 1:13:28years. So it's like this was a, a
- 1:13:31great, great week. I, I just, I don't think the
- 1:13:39Royals can keep up offensively. The Royals will not beat
- 1:13:46themselves. They're not going to make
- 1:13:49mistakes defensively. They're going to pitch really
- 1:13:52well, but I'm going to go ahead and lean towards the what we saw
- 1:14:01Gerrit Cole do his last few starts, going really, really
- 1:14:05deep into games and starting to look like what we're used to,
- 1:14:10which hasn't been the case for most of the year.
- 1:14:16I think question marks were kind of solved by Nestor Cortez going
- 1:14:20on the IL not being available, Anthony Rizzo being hurt and and
- 1:14:25likely being done for the year with the broken hand is, is a
- 1:14:28big deal. It's a bigger deal than what
- 1:14:31people are, you know, they're not talking about what that does
- 1:14:35defensively create some issues. And Ben Rice hasn't done much
- 1:14:41outside of those first few weeks.
- 1:14:43So it's going to be really interesting.
- 1:14:44But offensively, I I really like where the Yanks are at.
- 1:14:51I really like it. Austin Wells has like quietly
- 1:14:55snuck himself into AO Rookie of the year conversation.
- 1:14:59Rodon has looked very good quietly the second-half.
- 1:15:03If you have Louise Heel, who's also in the rookie of the year
- 1:15:06conversation, coming in as 3. Clark Schmidt is in that
- 1:15:11conversation as well. Like there's pieces that are
- 1:15:14starting to come together for the Yanks that I feel strong
- 1:15:17about. I feel, I feel really good.
- 1:15:22I like that there's a little bit of like this battle between
- 1:15:25Verdugo and and Jason Dominguez. There's a little bit of level of
- 1:15:29competition that's happening for left field.
- 1:15:33You know, what Stanton can do in the in the postseason.
- 1:15:36So I feel I feel confident and there's other key pieces that,
- 1:15:43you know, I'm saying all this stuff and I'm not even
- 1:15:45mentioning hell, I'm VP Aaron Judge or top five AO MVP voting
- 1:15:51for Juan Soto. There's a lot of lot of good
- 1:15:55things that are happening. Glaber Torres has looked a great
- 1:15:59than the lead off spot. I mean, there's there's good
- 1:16:02stuff happening. And as much as the Orioles have
- 1:16:06slid in that second-half of the last few months to lose the the
- 1:16:10division and lose that lead that they had, the Yanks have looked
- 1:16:14good. The Yanks have looked good for a
- 1:16:17good six weeks now. Yeah, it's all fine and dandy.
- 1:16:23You know who else's look good? The Royals.
- 1:16:24I'm going to Royals in five. Give me Yanks in four.
- 1:16:31That's a stupid pick, but all right.
- 1:16:33I I didn't know we were making choices to be wrong here.
- 1:16:36But you know, to each their own, I suppose.
- 1:16:42Yeah. Going, going Royals in five.
- 1:16:45And quite honest, to be quite honest with you, I'm a little
- 1:16:47disappointed that you're not giving the Royals a little bit
- 1:16:49more respect because you sit there and and you praise them
- 1:16:54for their athleticism, their ability to to manufacture, their
- 1:16:57ability to especially pitch both on the front end and the back
- 1:17:01end. I said they can't hang
- 1:17:02offensively. That's what I I don't think they
- 1:17:04can hang. Yeah, maybe not with the
- 1:17:08firepower, but they can still the athletic.
- 1:17:11The athleticism still can translate to manufacturing runs.
- 1:17:14That's fine. I think they're not going to go
- 1:17:16to score. That's all.
- 1:17:18Not talking just power rankings. I'm I'm talking they struggle to
- 1:17:21score. I need to look something up.
- 1:17:30They're a good ball club, don't get me wrong.
- 1:17:32I and, and you have heard me. Everyone on here has heard me
- 1:17:37complain about how the Yankees have been up and down throughout
- 1:17:41the year. I I think it just, it feels a
- 1:17:46little different for me this year.
- 1:17:48There were top, for what it's worth, their top half in
- 1:17:50baseball for run scored 735 thirteenth, which was more than
- 1:17:55the Guardians, more than the Braves and the like.
- 1:18:01Top half. Well, I don't want to say that.
- 1:18:05I mean, yeah, I guess technically middle of the pack
- 1:18:08at 13. But like I, I don't, I mean,
- 1:18:10they're not like 16/17/18. I mean like somewhat
- 1:18:13respectable. But again, any you could make
- 1:18:18the argument and we'll see how it how it how it goes.
- 1:18:24And yeah, I'm seeing in the chat that, yeah, they get to play the
- 1:18:27White Sox 13 times. That's fine.
- 1:18:28We're not talking about the White Sox right now.
- 1:18:30We're talking about the Royals. Hey, now, a little more respect
- 1:18:32for the AO Central this year. Let's Yeah.
- 1:18:35What I mean we're talking about 3 teams right now that are that
- 1:18:38are still in the mix. No, but it goes back to what I
- 1:18:42was saying. The any maybe lack of firepower
- 1:18:47you could say gets made-up by the fact that they're just
- 1:18:50continuing to roll. They're continuing to stay hot
- 1:18:52and they're they're staying, staying on their toes, staying
- 1:18:55fresh. And maybe a team like the
- 1:18:58Yankees that can manufacture runs, maybe they're a little
- 1:19:01sluggish out of the gate. And I'm not, I'm, I'm not, I'm
- 1:19:03not saying that that applies to the whole series, but at least
- 1:19:07to get this to get the to, to get the series going.
- 1:19:11You could see that maybe the Royals or or any of these teams
- 1:19:14that just rolled right into into game, game action.
- 1:19:18Maybe that helps them from an offensive point seeing pitches
- 1:19:21because you're seeing clips of these, these first round buy
- 1:19:24teams. They're they're scrimmaging each
- 1:19:26other. And you and I both know we did.
- 1:19:29I mean, we, we didn't play at that level.
- 1:19:31But you can't really any sport, you can't replicate actual live
- 1:19:36game action playing against the guys that you share a clubhouse
- 1:19:40with day in and day out. It's just not the same.
- 1:19:42And I I wore and take bias out of it.
- 1:19:44I worry about a team like the Yankees or maybe less for the
- 1:19:49Yankees because they they just can produce runs.
- 1:19:51But other some of these other first round by teams, I worry
- 1:19:54about them coming a little little sluggish out of the gate.
- 1:19:57That's all understandable. With that said though, Royals
- 1:20:00and five lastly here, Padres. Dodgers.
- 1:20:07No dude, I'm just a big, big Royals guy from here.
- 1:20:13Quick question by the way, I forgot to ask.
- 1:20:14There's zero percent chance you wore that to Camden.
- 1:20:19No. OK, so here's I.
- 1:20:20Didn't think you had the balls. No, I surely didn't.
- 1:20:23I I contemplated it though, 'cause I'm like, is there a way
- 1:20:27that I could wear the jersey? But like also maybe like staple
- 1:20:31a sign to my jersey that says like, I'm just a Bobby Witt fan
- 1:20:35or something? Like just so people knew, like
- 1:20:38this wasn't me like a Royals thing.
- 1:20:39But then I was like, ow, well, I'm maybe going to introduce
- 1:20:43Meredith because Meredith and Ryan have yet to meet.
- 1:20:45So it's like maybe we'll run into Ryan.
- 1:20:46And then we were super late to the game because of traffic
- 1:20:49sucked. So that didn't end up happening.
- 1:20:51So I'm like, maybe could have gotten away with wearing it, but
- 1:20:54I, it just felt wrong. And, and it turns out that it
- 1:20:58the jersey didn't even get there by the time we left.
- 1:21:00It was supposed to left. So I didn't even have the choice
- 1:21:02to to make. But I was just curious.
- 1:21:05That's a good. That's a fair question.
- 1:21:07That's a fair question. But no, even if it had been
- 1:21:09there on time, I wouldn't have worn it.
- 1:21:12Would not have worn it. Padres Dodgers to close us out
- 1:21:15here. Well, we have one item after
- 1:21:17that, but regarding Division Series preview, Padres, Dodgers,
- 1:21:24I tell you what. Stardom, dude.
- 1:21:26I tell you what. Talk about stardom.
- 1:21:29Carabas with, honestly his tweet I think summed it up the best,
- 1:21:33he said. Padres, Dodgers is going to feed
- 1:21:36families and that I don't think I can I can put it better than
- 1:21:39that because you you said it. You talk stardom, you talk
- 1:21:45rivalry, you talk about bad blood.
- 1:21:48You talk about, I mean, forget the on field product.
- 1:21:51The fan bases alone would would just mass murder one another if
- 1:21:57given the chance. I I believe that.
- 1:21:59Yeah, probably true. That's what's at stake here.
- 1:22:03And this is the division series. Like we're not even talking
- 1:22:05NLCS. We're not talking like one step
- 1:22:07away from from the big dance talking division series.
- 1:22:11I still feel like this is just this is like top of the line
- 1:22:15quality post season baseball. It's going to be unreal.
- 1:22:19It's going to be unreal. Not to mention we're getting
- 1:22:23Yamamoto out of the gate. They and originally it was
- 1:22:26supposed to be Jack Flaherty and they said because of like rest
- 1:22:30schedules, they they want to get Flaherty push back.
- 1:22:33I don't know. Or something, something to do
- 1:22:36with a potential game five. I'm like, OK, we're already
- 1:22:38talking about game five. I don't know if I like that, but
- 1:22:44Yamamoto right out of the gate against Dylan cease.
- 1:22:46I mean, you want to talk about possibly the best game, one that
- 1:22:51we're looking at here of these 4 slates or four games, I'm taking
- 1:22:56taking that. For sure.
- 1:22:58The problem is, what do the Dodgers have after that?
- 1:23:03Jack Flaherty. It's a cute story.
- 1:23:08Ohtani. Amazing year.
- 1:23:12Great job finding your own group, planting your flag on the
- 1:23:195050 club. Give me the Padres in four.
- 1:23:26Give me the freaking Padres in four.
- 1:23:31They are two good this year. Pitching is in line, bullpen
- 1:23:39arguably the best out of these eight teams, and offense is
- 1:23:44moving. Big Brother.
- 1:23:47No more Padres in four. Oh, Doctor Seuss, little rhyme,
- 1:23:57little rhyme in action there. You know, I'm with you.
- 1:24:02I think, I think I'm seeing that Walker Buehler is their third
- 1:24:05option for game or their their option for game 3.
- 1:24:11That doesn't excite me. I I could say that much.
- 1:24:15And as great as Otani has been this year, as much as we've
- 1:24:19talked about it, as much as the baseball world has talked about
- 1:24:21it, Shohei Otani cannot win games by himself, at least not
- 1:24:25this year. Maybe next year when he gets
- 1:24:27back to form on the mound, should that, should that follow
- 1:24:31the way that they're hoping that it does not this year, though,
- 1:24:36and again, revisit the point that I made before the season
- 1:24:41started. I've said it 100 times.
- 1:24:46It was never going to be a cakewalk for the Dodgers this
- 1:24:49year because it rarely, if ever, works out that way, where the
- 1:24:53best team on paper just marches their way to the World Series.
- 1:24:59And that's not hindsight. I've got the receipts.
- 1:25:02I'm not saying that. I've been saying it.
- 1:25:06I just don't see I, I, I, I can't say those things.
- 1:25:12And then as each series goes along and go, well, I got to go
- 1:25:15Dodgers here, I got to go Dodgers there.
- 1:25:17I got to, I got to go against the Dodgers.
- 1:25:19At some point, if that narrative for myself is going to hold
- 1:25:22true, I because I've been pushing that all year.
- 1:25:24I said the, the, the Dodger magic is going to run out
- 1:25:27eventually, or at least it's going to be tough.
- 1:25:30And what better time for me to to put that into action by going
- 1:25:36with the Padres, the arguably one of the hotter, maybe not
- 1:25:41maybe not hottest, but in terms of talent playing at peak level
- 1:25:45right now that it just seems like a match made in heaven for
- 1:25:51me to to choose the Padres to be the team that puts this ride to
- 1:25:57rest for the Dodgers. I.
- 1:25:59Think I think they're the most complete team.
- 1:26:02I do. I do.
- 1:26:04It's like I the Phillies are very good, but the Padres are
- 1:26:11also very complete and hot. If those two teams ended up in
- 1:26:16the NLCS, I've, I'll be honest with you, that's going to be a
- 1:26:19really tough one for me. And I know, I know.
- 1:26:20I get the whole like, oh, fake Phillies fan, not a Phillies
- 1:26:24fan, first of all. Second of all, what?
- 1:26:29Huh. Close your eyes.
- 1:26:42How does your eyes just picture Casey in Philly in this just a
- 1:26:48sea of red? I'm quite literally wearing a
- 1:26:50Bobby Witt Junior jersey, right? Now what are you talking about?
- 1:26:54All you just going. If I was, if I was the Phillies
- 1:26:58fan that people make me out to be, I would be wearing the
- 1:27:01Phillies jersey ahead of the 1st post season series for them this
- 1:27:04year. But here I am wearing a Bobby
- 1:27:06Witt jersey following a Wild Card series dub for the Kid.
- 1:27:11One could also argue that, you know I was going to be wearing
- 1:27:14Yankee stuff and that's why you wore that, but you did also just
- 1:27:19get it in the mail. Yeah, I knew this was arriving
- 1:27:21on my birthday and I was going to wear it regardless.
- 1:27:23I I don't even care anyway. Padres.
- 1:27:30I'm going Padres, can I be honest with you right now?
- 1:27:35I'm kind of, I'm kind of flirting with the sweep here.
- 1:27:38Are you? I'm kind of flirting.
- 1:27:40I hate that I didn't have a single sweep in my predictions.
- 1:27:47Now you know what I got? I got to be, I got to have, I
- 1:27:50got to be a man of conviction here.
- 1:27:51I'm going, you know what? I, I don't think the, I think
- 1:27:54this is where the run ends for the Dodgers, the run that really
- 1:27:56didn't even happen considering they haven't played any
- 1:27:59postseason baseball yet. But it's going to the, the road
- 1:28:03stops here for the Dodgers. I'm going Padres sweep Padres in
- 1:28:08three. Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 1:28:16It's funny though, because always.
- 1:28:17By the way, Marais pissed. No, all these people are like,
- 1:28:21oh, you got to have pitching. You got to have pitching because
- 1:28:25I because I, I don't know if you saw that, that post that I put
- 1:28:27out, but it was the, I mean, this was going back a a few
- 1:28:30days, but it was like the Diamondbacks scored.
- 1:28:32I think it was like the most runs in baseball and didn't even
- 1:28:34make the postseason. And then everybody in the
- 1:28:36comments like, well, that's great when you can score runs,
- 1:28:39but you got to have pitching. Pitching wins championships.
- 1:28:41And these are the same people that are somehow questioning my,
- 1:28:44my, my thoughts on the Dodgers here, given that they have no
- 1:28:47pitching. They're going relax.
- 1:28:50It's the Dodgers. Well, which is it is, is it is
- 1:28:53it? Does pitching win championships?
- 1:28:55Or. Does just having LA on your hat
- 1:28:58win you championships? Which is it?
- 1:29:01Because the Dodgers have no pitching, The Padres are more at
- 1:29:05at this current state, more talented or complete.
- 1:29:09They're bringing more to the table.
- 1:29:10They're hot. Fresh off a A a sweep in the
- 1:29:13Wild Card Series seems like a perfect recipe to me.
- 1:29:16Not to mention we've never seen Shohei with a first round vibe
- 1:29:19before. What is this time off do to him?
- 1:29:24We don't know, never seen it before.
- 1:29:30Interesting. Yep.
- 1:29:32Madre sweet. Yeah, I felt good.
- 1:29:34I felt good. Felt real good.
- 1:29:36Good stuff, good stuff, old chap.
- 1:29:39Wow. So we, we, we, we went 5050 on
- 1:29:42picks there. No, we did.
- 1:29:45I went Tigers, you went guards, both went Phillies.
- 1:29:50Both went pods. Both went pods and then split on
- 1:29:53rose Yanks. I like it.
- 1:29:54I like it. Like it a lot.
- 1:29:57You know what else I like? I like the fact that Terry
- 1:30:00Francona is getting back into baseball.
- 1:30:03I do too. I know I said I didn't.
- 1:30:06I I didn't know how I felt about it when I first saw it.
- 1:30:08But the more I think about it every, every additional day that
- 1:30:13we have Terry Francona in Major League Baseball, that's a better
- 1:30:16day. Yeah, that's a better day for
- 1:30:19Major League Baseball. I like this, I like this.
- 1:30:23I said this off off air, I'll say it on air.
- 1:30:28Makes me almost certain that this was in the hopper before
- 1:30:34the David Bell announcement. And and even then, it was
- 1:30:38probably why David Bell got got bounced, especially when there's
- 1:30:45question marks around the extension like why?
- 1:30:48Why fire him after the extension?
- 1:30:50But look, Tito knows ball. Good for the Reds.
- 1:30:56Now fill out your roster and. Don't forget he he he had a
- 1:31:04short stint with the Reds in his in his career.
- 1:31:10You just looked that up, didn't you?
- 1:31:11No, I, I've, I had to confirm, but I, I believed that to be the
- 1:31:16case. And he he played one season in
- 1:31:191987. I knew because I knew there was
- 1:31:26a connection there. And I was like, was it with the
- 1:31:30Reds? Sure enough, I was looking to
- 1:31:33see if he did anything special that year, but it didn't really
- 1:31:35seem like anything really stood out.
- 1:31:38Talk about a guy that knows knows how to get a young ball
- 1:31:42club over the hump. You know, get it.
- 1:31:45Get a young ball club to take that next turn.
- 1:31:48Turn the page into the next chapter of of life.
- 1:31:53And look, I mean, I think I had the Reds winning the Central
- 1:31:57this year. I think Ryan did too.
- 1:32:04It's a team that disappointed and there's a lot of names on
- 1:32:07that roster. There's a lot of potential
- 1:32:09there. So they need to do some things.
- 1:32:11They need to fill out, you know, some gaps, but that's that's
- 1:32:16that's the man to take it to the next level and, you know, maybe
- 1:32:22sneak into one of these next, you know, wild card spots or be
- 1:32:25in contention of the division next year.
- 1:32:27He's he's the guy that can do it.
- 1:32:31I love it, I love it. Big fan.
- 1:32:33We'll see what happens, and we'll see what happens this
- 1:32:38weekend as we kick off 4. Yeah.
- 1:32:44Division series matchups. Any other thoughts here before
- 1:32:52my clothes? In fact, while you not to put
- 1:32:54you on the spot here, think about a closing thought if you
- 1:32:56have one. My closing thought I I, I cannot
- 1:33:04and will not get enough of the Moneyball home run clips.
- 1:33:09I don't care if your payroll is $2 billion, if you hit a clutch
- 1:33:19home run in the postseason, I need that set to the Moneyball
- 1:33:23music. OK, I know that it was it, it
- 1:33:28was designed. It was.
- 1:33:29It was crafted for a movie about a very small market team.
- 1:33:35I understand that, but ever since this trend for a handful
- 1:33:42of years at this point, whenever it started, all I know is I'm
- 1:33:46glad it started because I can't get enough of those.
- 1:33:49So you know what if Shohei Otani, who's making like $6
- 1:33:53trillion over the next 60 years, if he comes up and hits a go
- 1:34:00ahead Homer in the in the bottom of the eighth, I don't care.
- 1:34:06Set at the Moneyball. I cannot get enough of the
- 1:34:10Moneyball home run clips. Give me more Moneyball home run
- 1:34:15clips. That's my closing thought.
- 1:34:19All right, guy. I've been well, what started is
- 1:34:22I saw that they I saw one with the Garrett Mitchell home run,
- 1:34:24which we, I don't even think we mentioned in the Brewers game.
- 1:34:27Big moment, huge moment, huge moment for the kids swing of his
- 1:34:30life. I was Paige and I were at dinner
- 1:34:33like a like a spot over here, like a it's kind of like a bar
- 1:34:36spot. And there was one Brewers fan in
- 1:34:39there watching, just screaming, dude just pounding the table.
- 1:34:43Let's go. So excited.
- 1:34:45I came over, I gave him knocks. I'm like, I hate the Mets.
- 1:34:49And he's like Maito, this one guy, like, all right, I'm going
- 1:34:54to get back to my nachos. This is more important right
- 1:34:57now. Yeah, but I I saw, I saw the
- 1:35:01clip set to the Moneyball and it just reminded me because we had,
- 1:35:04I mean, we all things I don't feel like we've seen very many
- 1:35:06home runs this post season thus far.
- 1:35:09And that was obviously a huge 1 yet.
- 1:35:12Well, obviously, I mean, we can't go into the future.
- 1:35:15We don't have the technology. But I saw that set the Moneyball
- 1:35:20and it just reminded me I thought back to all the great
- 1:35:22Moneyball Homer post season clips that I've seen over the
- 1:35:24last 3-4 years and I I need more.
- 1:35:28I need more. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:33What are people going to do tomorrow, if anything?
- 1:35:39Anything. Does anybody have any
- 1:35:42recommendations before we get out of here in the chat?
- 1:35:45We're just folks in the chat are continue to push this Dodgers
- 1:35:51narrative. Robert, I see you in the chat.
- 1:35:54I'm not you're not getting me to change my mind.
- 1:35:56I'm I'm sold on the Padres. You can throw whatever numbers
- 1:35:59you want at me. I've I've seen what I've seen
- 1:36:02and I like what I've seen from the Padres.
- 1:36:04It's it's Padres in three. I said what I said.
- 1:36:11Yeah. Does anybody in the chat have
- 1:36:12recommendations on what to do with this off day?
- 1:36:16Because I don't I don't know how I feel about it.
- 1:36:18I mean, if it was like a if, like if it was tonight, if we
- 1:36:20had no baseball, I'm cool with that.
- 1:36:21But a Friday night, but I don't really have much going on.
- 1:36:25I'm hoping with like how things kind of pan out that like this
- 1:36:30is probably our last off day until the World Series, you know
- 1:36:34what I mean? It's like you're always going to
- 1:36:36have that like that sweep and then another series that goes
- 1:36:41like five games and then they meet up.
- 1:36:44You know, there's like another series that's like starting
- 1:36:47before the others. You know, there's, there's going
- 1:36:49to be, there's going to be some of that happening, which I like.
- 1:36:55I'm running out of words. I'm tired.
- 1:36:58I'm going to sleep. Hopefully we got you through the
- 1:37:08the the off day. Hopefully you're watching this
- 1:37:11on YouTube. Hopefully you're subscribed.
- 1:37:15Hopefully you're telling everyone that you've ever known
- 1:37:19about us so you can come hang out with us.
- 1:37:22You can join us in the chat. You can get Kyle Ride riled up.
- 1:37:25I like when you pick fights with the chat, by the way, I really
- 1:37:28do. I like when you pick fights with
- 1:37:31random people. It makes makes me happy.
- 1:37:34Comment sections. Now I'm just on a mission to
- 1:37:38explain why the Dodgers are not all that they're chalked up to
- 1:37:41be. There you go.
- 1:37:44That's good. We will see you guys Monday I
- 1:37:48believe. So good chance it's going to be
- 1:37:50like a A2 game recap for the DSS, right?
- 1:38:01Oh super quick thought we didn't even get to it.
- 1:38:06Any thoughts on the Padres restricting ticket purchases?
- 1:38:11I didn't see this. What?
- 1:38:13So the Padres are restricting ticket purchases based on
- 1:38:17location because they're trying to limit the number of Dodgers
- 1:38:20fans in Petco, and it seems to be really, really, really
- 1:38:28upsetting some folks. I'm here for the pettiness.
- 1:38:34You know, that's my line. I'm here for the pettiness.
- 1:38:37I'm a van. I like it.
- 1:38:40I do like it. What was there was something, I
- 1:38:43think it was like a national championship game in college
- 1:38:45football or something like that, where like there was one fan
- 1:38:50base that like bought out a ton of tickets and then didn't.
- 1:38:53I think there was something like that.
- 1:38:54Didn't go and there was just like empty seats, yeah.
- 1:38:59Well, it's been brought to my attention both in the chat and
- 1:39:02on social because I posted about it.
- 1:39:04And they're like, well, this happens all the time.
- 1:39:05It's like, well, I don't. I don't think the limit look per
- 1:39:10location. Yeah, because they're just
- 1:39:11trying to keep it like a home game and not like just let
- 1:39:16Dodgers because you know how well Dodgers fans travel there.
- 1:39:18They would just infiltrate Petco.
- 1:39:20But my, my, my point or my response to those people would
- 1:39:24be like, yeah, this may happen elsewhere around the league, but
- 1:39:27it's the Padres Dodgers dynamic is is more unique than just
- 1:39:32about any other of those situations when you take into
- 1:39:35account the rivalry, the proximity, the what's at stake
- 1:39:38here between these two teams. Like this is a somewhat of a
- 1:39:43unique situation. I say it, I'll say it again.
- 1:39:47These fan bases would mass murder 11 another if given the
- 1:39:50opportunity. That's that's what we're dealing
- 1:39:51with. And.
- 1:39:52I'll say it again, Padres and four.
- 1:39:56Padres and three. Good stuff.
- 1:40:00Enjoy your weekend a baseball, folks.
- 1:40:03Don't you dare leave that couch nor chase curveballs.
- 1:40:08We love you on as always. Looking forward to talking more
- 1:40:10baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
