Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, Well, if you
- 0:07Speaker 1: haven't noticed, I did not do a drop in three
- 0:12Speaker 1: to talk about the post election results because I've actually
- 0:14Speaker 1: had to take almost twenty four hours to process it.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Because I thought last night I woke.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Up this morning, I shouldn't be confused about how disappointed
- 0:31Speaker 1: I am in New York City.
- 0:33Speaker 2: That I'm not confused about.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I am disappointed.
- 0:38Speaker 2: At where we wake up today.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But then I think on the human level, and you know,
- 0:49Speaker 1: there is something about a thirty four year old we
- 0:52Speaker 1: had no experience running anything, becoming mayor of New York City, say,
- 1:00Speaker 1: we all can make it here in New York, wherever
- 1:03Speaker 1: we desire to choose, we can do it. Yes, that
- 1:09Speaker 1: inexperienced brat known as Zoram Mamdani has inspired me to say,
- 1:16Speaker 1: if you put your heart to it, you can do it.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And you could probably fool over fifty percent of a
- 1:21Speaker 1: New Yorker's along the way, you know, and a lot
- 1:27Speaker 1: has been stoked because look, we are two days apart
- 1:31Speaker 1: in age. Mamdanie is born on October eighteenth, nineteen ninety one.
- 1:37Speaker 1: He turned thirty four two days before I did. We
- 1:42Speaker 1: are clearly two thirty four year olds on our drives
- 1:45Speaker 1: to thirty five. As I've been saying on social media,
- 1:47Speaker 1: drive to thirty five in very different ways. He just
- 1:53Speaker 1: happened to win an election in New York. Meanwhile, I've
- 1:56Speaker 1: met five mayors, I met the president nights.
- 2:00Speaker 2: They saped down a lot in thirty four years my life.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I feel like I.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Could have done this if I put my heart into
- 2:07Speaker 1: it now. But if he screws up, if he screws
- 2:13Speaker 1: up royally, and we both turned thirty eight, by the way,
- 2:18Speaker 1: in twenty twenty nine.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Maybe I will.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Take on my libra brother. If you will, well, he's
- 2:29Speaker 1: two days apart. If I don't get a radio show
- 2:34Speaker 1: full time, if the podcast just kind of stays where
- 2:38Speaker 1: it is, and I love where we're at, but I
- 2:39Speaker 1: want to grow it, then by twenty twenty nine, I
- 2:45Speaker 1: will do it because I truly believe, and I'll probably
- 2:49Speaker 1: think this four years from now. We are diametrically opposed,
- 2:55Speaker 1: two days apart. How did two libras think totally different?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Because normally levers are very like minded, they think the same.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't know what it is.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It is when you're in your same astrological sign, you
- 3:08Speaker 1: feel connected to them. Now I feel connected to this
- 3:13Speaker 1: guy because not only is he two days older than me,
- 3:16Speaker 1: he just has the misguided ideals. The misguided ideas. Yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 1: we all want balance, and that is a form of socialism, right, balance,
- 3:30Speaker 1: We want to make sure everbody gets their fair share,
- 3:31Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah. But he's literally willing to sacrifice
- 3:36Speaker 1: the balance for New Yorkers, sacrifice our safety in the
- 3:41Speaker 1: process for that balance. He's it doesn't make sense. And
- 3:50Speaker 1: in fact, if you're thinking more along that line, wouldn't
- 3:55Speaker 1: you want as you're trying to make a fair in
- 3:58Speaker 1: New York, say for New York. At the same time,
- 4:02Speaker 1: he has kept saying how he wants affordable housing, affordable
- 4:05Speaker 1: disc The city's not affordable.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And I will say it again.
- 4:09Speaker 1: If our police department can stay intact, I will pay
- 4:13Speaker 1: for a thousand dollars bagel.
- 4:17Speaker 2: If our police department is not disbanded in any.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Way, I will pay for one thousand dollars bagel if
- 4:22Speaker 1: that means keeping the city more affordable and keeping the
- 4:26Speaker 1: city more safe. Because you can't pay rent if you're
- 4:30Speaker 1: not alive to see it, and you can't pay rent
- 4:35Speaker 1: if you're not feeling protected.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You know, by your city.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So I feel like I can go a couple of
- 4:48Speaker 1: ways with this feeling I have of being And I've
- 4:56Speaker 1: never been politically motivated like that to run for office.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That's probably why I'm not there, But it does make
- 5:03Speaker 1: me feel like, if this kid can accomplish it at
- 5:07Speaker 1: thirty four, then the first thing I want to do
- 5:14Speaker 1: at thirty four plus well actually at thirty five and
- 5:18Speaker 1: put my heart and mind to it, is run the marathon.
- 5:24Speaker 1: He has made me feel like by winning and really
- 5:30Speaker 1: truly a moment views aside, a moment for the kids
- 5:35Speaker 1: born in nineteen ninety one, is it not?
- 5:39Speaker 2: This is our moment?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Ninety one baby became a mayor and it wasn't me,
- 5:45Speaker 1: which is the most shocking thing. But a nineteen ninety
- 5:48Speaker 1: one baby became mayor. That is kind of a big deal.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And maybe he will become more centralized and we do
- 5:59Speaker 1: have to root him on because he's roundly our city.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But there's just this fascination for me.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That we are totally different people with totally different backgrounds,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and yet we're only two days apart in age. I
- 6:21Speaker 1: don't know why that fascinates me so much, but it does.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And it makes me want to say also to continue
- 6:32Speaker 1: to have one like up four New Yorkers. As we
- 6:33Speaker 1: switch hands again, as we say, it's amazing. This has
- 6:39Speaker 1: been such a long term for Mayor Adams. He's a
- 6:41Speaker 1: one term mayor. Didn't it feel like ten terms in
- 6:46Speaker 1: one didn't feel like ten terms in one term?
- 6:53Speaker 2: With all the tumulil, with all the indictment, with.
- 6:55Speaker 1: All the thing with Trump, it felt like a ten
- 6:58Speaker 1: term term. But there's only one term, so we gotta
- 7:04Speaker 1: switch hands again to the next regime, the next administration.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So Zoran, I think you should actually lean on other
- 7:17Speaker 1: thirty four year olds, other people born in your in
- 7:20Speaker 1: our year.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Because.
- 7:26Speaker 1: We all have our own ways of trying to make
- 7:28Speaker 1: the city better. But if the year of ninety one
- 7:32Speaker 1: can work together on our drive to thirty five.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And in my thirty fifth year in New York, then
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'll help you try and and and and better New York.
- 7:48Speaker 2: The way.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I feel and maybe others feel that you may not
- 7:54Speaker 1: feel like we're gonna have to come into this with disagreements.
- 8:00Speaker 1: But the first task for me is the host of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the show and the goal of having one leg up
- 8:07Speaker 1: for New Yorker.
- 8:08Speaker 2: As we switch hands.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Again, is to throw that olive branch out there and say, look,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you got elected. Congratulations shivering as I say it. But
- 8:22Speaker 1: we're both thirty four, we both have our whole lives
- 8:27Speaker 1: ahead of us.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And clearly you do love New York enough to run
- 8:32Speaker 2: from air and win.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I love New York because I've been in this city
- 8:36Speaker 1: for thirty four years and I feel like I still
- 8:38Speaker 1: have the post of the city right on my wheels here.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So let's team up.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Let me talk to you on my podcast. Let's do
- 8:48Speaker 1: an interview about what New Yorkers can expect and how
- 8:53Speaker 1: this generation can, as you'd like to say, move New.
- 8:57Speaker 2: York forward, but allow.
- 9:00Speaker 1: The dissension that you might get from other kids born
- 9:04Speaker 1: in ninety one.
- 9:09Speaker 2: But this, this does feel like.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And if this Zoramumdani can do it at age thirty four,
- 9:20Speaker 1: then at age.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Thirty four, what can I do? What's next in my world?
- 9:30Speaker 2: And maybe the marathon is that next big step.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Maybe finally buying time on a radio station is that
- 9:39Speaker 1: next big step?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Be cause and again.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Views aside, Although I hate that there were swastikas up
- 9:49Speaker 1: at a.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Brooklyn Yeshiva, Yeshiva, that we need to have a conversation.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I really believe that.
- 10:05Speaker 1: We are two days apart in age, we are miles
- 10:08Speaker 1: apart in belief systems. But that shouldn't shouldn't hold me
- 10:15Speaker 1: back from certainly inviting to the podcast, and that shouldn't
- 10:19Speaker 1: hold us as a generation from moving New York forward together.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Disagreements along the way shore, but I think you need
- 10:34Speaker 1: the group of ninety one and those group broad and
- 10:39Speaker 1: ninety one's help. So I'll I'll step alongside and not
- 10:51Speaker 1: agree with everything, and I'll push back on a lot
- 10:53Speaker 1: of things also.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But I will have you. I will give you.
- 10:56Speaker 1: A fair interview if you so accept, because you are
- 11:03Speaker 1: clearly showing that if a thirty four year old can
- 11:07Speaker 1: get elected mayor, damn it, a thirty five year old
- 11:10Speaker 1: can get elected president, thirty something year can get elected Congress.
- 11:15Speaker 2: We don't have to.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Wait for the old guard to get older to make
- 11:19Speaker 1: a difference.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Let me say that again. We don't have to wait
- 11:24Speaker 2: for the old guard to get older to make a difference.
- 11:29Speaker 2: You're clearly showing that difference can be done now. And
- 11:36Speaker 2: I'm my own way, in my own path.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'm inspired to make that difference, whether it is running
- 11:47Speaker 1: for office at some point, or just continuing to bring
- 11:51Speaker 1: awareness on this podcast, or simply enhancing and stepping up
- 11:58Speaker 1: the mission to make New York's any more accessible for people.
- 12:09Speaker 1: As and I thought he felt he seemed like scar
- 12:13Speaker 1: from linking last night. But as aggressive as he sounded
- 12:16Speaker 1: last night and pretty dark, there's gotta be some daylight
- 12:24Speaker 1: there where he and I can collab and talk about
- 12:35Speaker 1: how two thirty four year olds would turn two days
- 12:37Speaker 1: apart see the world so differently. You both want the
- 12:43Speaker 1: best for New York, so let's team up. Let's give
- 12:47Speaker 1: them the best for New York. After all, that's what
- 12:54Speaker 1: you say you want to do. And I'm gonna have
- 12:57Speaker 1: one leg up for New Yorkers, So let's team up up.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And just have a talk about what.
- 13:08Speaker 1: We can both do to bring New York forward. If
- 13:15Speaker 1: the age to be elected for office is now, then
- 13:20Speaker 1: do something with it.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And I think joining my podcast would be a great
- 13:25Speaker 2: start here. I won leg up with Alex Garrett
