- 0:31What is going on, everybody?
- 0:32Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:36This is Wednesday.
- 0:37We're doing some Cajun
- 0:38cooking on a Wednesday
- 0:40because that's because we
- 0:41bring in the Cajun himself,
- 0:43Corey Leonard.
- 0:44What's going on, brother?
- 0:45What's happening, Scott?
- 0:48Just another day in paradise, brother,
- 0:49man.
- 0:51Hey, Sarah.
- 0:51Yeah, so, yeah,
- 0:54a lot going on in the space
- 0:55these last couple days.
- 0:56Yeah.
- 0:58Um,
- 0:58we've kept everything pretty full on
- 1:00this show.
- 1:01Usually I'm struggling like
- 1:02on the Monday and the
- 1:03Tuesday after the Sunday
- 1:04show to like have anything to talk about.
- 1:07Um, but man,
- 1:09like every day there's just
- 1:10stuff coming out now.
- 1:12We got the world fitness
- 1:13project qualifier starting today.
- 1:17Um, did you see, uh,
- 1:19did you see spins post about it?
- 1:21Uh, do you mean with the community stuff?
- 1:25Yeah.
- 1:25With like the people signed up for it.
- 1:27Yeah, well,
- 1:29that's for the community events,
- 1:31and you can sign up up until the event,
- 1:33and you don't have to call.
- 1:34Word.
- 1:37I didn't know that.
- 1:38I just saw the numbers on there.
- 1:39I thought it was interesting.
- 1:40Yeah, that they pay out the podium,
- 1:42and some of them don't even
- 1:43have three teams signed up.
- 1:45Yeah.
- 1:46Someone in the comments was like,
- 1:47this is kind of cool,
- 1:48but I wish I was in one of
- 1:50the divisions that only had three people.
- 1:52Yeah.
- 1:55so you could make money as
- 1:56long as you are in the top
- 1:57three in those community
- 1:58events there are some of
- 2:00the events don't even have
- 2:01three teams in them um but
- 2:04we have six weeks before
- 2:05that event takes off and
- 2:06there's and it's first come
- 2:08first serve there is no
- 2:09qualifier good for now so
- 2:12you and me could do teams
- 2:14right now just get signed
- 2:14up brother get signed up I gotta
- 2:20I got a list I've been
- 2:23adding to since I started
- 2:25competing of team names for
- 2:30CrossFit competition.
- 2:31And I don't know why it
- 2:32didn't strike me before,
- 2:33but I just added the Magic
- 2:36Man and El Diablo.
- 2:44Sarah wants to know if you
- 2:45guys can be a team for free money.
- 2:48I'm in.
- 2:48Sign me up, sir.
- 2:50Sign me up.
- 2:51I mean, good Lord.
- 2:53What's the registration fee for it?
- 2:56I imagine you got to pay to
- 2:57play like anything else.
- 3:00I just don't know what it is.
- 3:01I never looked into it.
- 3:04Like there is probably a registration fee.
- 3:08Um, I don't know what those are.
- 3:12Honestly.
- 3:12Like I I'm at a level where
- 3:16I'm not ready to compete.
- 3:17Um,
- 3:19I'm quite there.
- 3:20We get working on it.
- 3:26So before we get into too much yesterday,
- 3:30I talked about my goals in the open,
- 3:33how I hit twentieth
- 3:34percentile up eight percent
- 3:36from the twelfth in twenty twenty three.
- 3:39Someone in the chat asked me
- 3:41about how you find out what
- 3:44those levels are and stuff like that.
- 3:46I actually have the chart.
- 3:49Here, pull it up.
- 3:52Let me... This one.
- 3:57There we go.
- 3:59So it's tiny.
- 4:00I'll blow it up here.
- 4:01Yeah, yeah.
- 4:02Find my mouse.
- 4:03There we go.
- 4:03All right.
- 4:07So there are five divisions, pro, advanced,
- 4:10intermediate, novice, and rookie.
- 4:13As I mentioned yesterday...
- 4:17I think I'm level two,
- 4:18but actually I didn't realize this.
- 4:20There's a fifty five plus level.
- 4:23So one through five is
- 4:25eleven to twenty first percentile.
- 4:29So maybe I'm a level five now.
- 4:31I don't know.
- 4:32But in the regular division,
- 4:34it is eleven to twenty one
- 4:36percent is level two.
- 4:38And then like twenty two to
- 4:39thirty two is level three.
- 4:41Thirty three to forty three is level four.
- 4:43Forty four to fifty four is level five.
- 4:46Fifty five to sixty five is level six.
- 4:49Sixty six to seventy six is seven.
- 4:52Seventy seven to eighty seven is eight.
- 4:54Eighty eight to ninety eight is nine.
- 4:55And you have to be in the
- 4:56ninety ninth or higher
- 4:58percentile to be level ten.
- 5:00and you can find your
- 5:03percentile by logging into
- 5:05the app it's like on the
- 5:06first page you see they
- 5:08give you a percentile of
- 5:10where you finished then you
- 5:11just come over to here you
- 5:14plug in the percentile you
- 5:16finished and it'll tell you
- 5:17what level you are look
- 5:21that up now while we're
- 5:22talking about it because it uh
- 5:27would be a lot easier if in
- 5:29the app they told you if um
- 5:34what your level is in
- 5:35addition to so I don't know
- 5:39if it's still doing it the
- 5:40same way it used to but I
- 5:41know like on my profile
- 5:43from last year or the
- 5:45current current one or
- 5:46whatever it said what
- 5:47number I was next to my
- 5:48name like if you go look at
- 5:49your athlete profile on the app
- 5:53I don't know if they're
- 5:54still quantifying it like they did before,
- 5:56but it was on there before.
- 5:59Yeah, I've been looking.
- 6:01It's just percentile at this point.
- 6:04So you can see like there.
- 6:08I don't know if you can.
- 6:10Yeah.
- 6:11What I'm saying is if you go
- 6:12look at your stuff, it's not that,
- 6:15but like go click on where
- 6:16you can view your profile.
- 6:17It had a number by it.
- 6:19Okay.
- 6:19Okay.
- 6:22Like where it says view athlete profile.
- 6:25So right now mine doesn't have anything.
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:30My last year that had a number next to it.
- 6:32Okay.
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:33Nothing on my athlete profile at all.
- 6:37But yeah, there's my world ride.
- 6:40Twentieth percentile.
- 6:44Right along.
- 6:45Maybe one percent better every day.
- 6:47D Reed says he's two levels below rookie.
- 6:51I have one that's hard to believe.
- 6:55Doug's fit, man.
- 6:56Don't let him lie to you.
- 6:58I know his name's David, by the way.
- 6:59We just like to call him
- 7:00Doug Reed because Seve's
- 7:02been calling him Doug Reed
- 7:03for the past six months.
- 7:04So yeah, those are the levels.
- 7:08I didn't realize that
- 7:09Fifty-Five Plus and
- 7:10Fourteen to Fifteen had
- 7:11their own set of criteria.
- 7:15And so,
- 7:16eleven to twenty-one is one through five.
- 7:19And then you get ten at
- 7:21sixty-six percent if fifty-five plus.
- 7:25That don't make a lot of sense to me.
- 7:26I don't know why the
- 7:27percentile of one would be
- 7:29different than the
- 7:30percentile of the other.
- 7:32Yeah,
- 7:38that's kind of... You consider it a ten,
- 7:39but you're only in as,
- 7:40you know... Sixty-seven percentile?
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:45That's kind of weird.
- 7:46Is that supposed to be like
- 7:47an overall thing?
- 7:48I guess that's how they're
- 7:49going to do it for the community cup,
- 7:52the community cup.
- 7:53So this is actually called
- 7:55the community cup tiers.
- 7:58Yeah.
- 8:01So like I said,
- 8:01doing that proceeding
- 8:02because you go against your level,
- 8:04not necessarily your age group.
- 8:06yeah and then they're the
- 8:07fourteen fifteen year olds
- 8:08you only have to be in well
- 8:11it's eight to ten so
- 8:13somewhere in that range of
- 8:15forty four to sixty five
- 8:17you start level ten I think
- 8:20that's fair because some
- 8:22fourteen fifteen year olds
- 8:23are like already hidden
- 8:25already hit puberty started
- 8:26growing and whatnot some
- 8:27are not like still you know
- 8:30developing and whatnot so
- 8:32it's kind of a lot of match
- 8:32up against the same age
- 8:34group the two ages like I
- 8:36don't know why you wouldn't
- 8:37just use the same
- 8:37percentage but maybe the
- 8:39numbers are so small that
- 8:40the upper tiers would
- 8:42wouldn't be enough to form
- 8:43a full amount of people
- 8:46that's probably what it is
- 8:47fifty five plus and
- 8:48fourteen and fifteen the
- 8:50groups would be too small
- 8:53so you have yeah like your
- 8:54age group so my my one of
- 8:57my best friends uh bernard
- 8:58like he's fifty five plus
- 9:00two and uh we were talking
- 9:03about the other day like
- 9:04there's thirteen thousand
- 9:05people in forty five forty nine men
- 9:08Like just just just my age group.
- 9:10And then fifty five, fifty nine,
- 9:13like it dropped down tremendously.
- 9:16Like the number was way,
- 9:17way lower in fifty five, fifty nine.
- 9:21As far as like, you know,
- 9:22people actually registered for the open.
- 9:24It was mind boggling because
- 9:27it's not that much older than me,
- 9:29relatively speaking.
- 9:30I mean, I'll be forty eight in a month.
- 9:33And I'm not that far from fifty five,
- 9:35fifty nine.
- 9:36And just the numbers that
- 9:37the amount of number that dropped off,
- 9:39I thought was absolutely bananas.
- 9:41I think Sarah hit it on the head.
- 9:42I think when you get to
- 9:44fifty five plus and fourteen, fifteen,
- 9:45they're just they're different groups.
- 9:46There's less signups.
- 9:48Yeah.
- 9:49Like we always talk about
- 9:49the Masters being the most
- 9:51populated signups to the open.
- 9:53But that's really the thirty
- 9:54five to forty nine year old divisions.
- 9:57Yeah.
- 9:58Like it's those three
- 9:59divisions that are fifty
- 10:01percent of open signups.
- 10:04I'm sure other divisions sign up as well,
- 10:08but just not at the clip
- 10:09that those three do.
- 10:12Yeah, I mean,
- 10:13obviously the open division
- 10:14is the biggest one.
- 10:14And then that thirty five, like you said,
- 10:17from thirty five to forty nine,
- 10:20there's a lot of people.
- 10:21I mean, good Lord.
- 10:26yes doug you are correct
- 10:29yeah I was a listen what
- 10:32happens at fifty five I was
- 10:34a big benefit from um I was
- 10:38not I I have an rx to uh an
- 10:40open workout and so damn
- 10:42long um and I I could have
- 10:46rx'd all three this year um
- 10:49I I did rx too
- 10:51And again, I've said the second one,
- 10:53I chose to compete against
- 10:54my old score rather than go
- 10:56RX because I wanted to see
- 10:58where I was at.
- 11:01So I did that one twice, Scott,
- 11:04just saying,
- 11:04did one against your old score,
- 11:06gave yourself two days and
- 11:07then do it again.
- 11:08I am fifty five.
- 11:10I'm fifty five.
- 11:12And that means body can do one a weekend.
- 11:17I'm a one and done for the
- 11:18rest of my life.
- 11:21You young kids in your forties,
- 11:24you can go twice,
- 11:26three times if you want on the weekend.
- 11:29I'm a one and done-er.
- 11:29You young kids and that dog.
- 11:33I feel like you're talking
- 11:34about Scooby-Doo at this point.
- 11:36Yeah.
- 11:38You pesky kids.
- 11:41Meddling kids and that dog.
- 11:44My wife, my friends,
- 11:46everybody knows I've become
- 11:48the get off my lawn dude.
- 11:50Oh, I can't wait.
- 11:52I'm already, look, I'm halfway there.
- 11:54My neighbors, I'll get home.
- 11:58So our houses face each
- 12:01other in our neighborhood,
- 12:03which is not necessarily a thing.
- 12:04So like when I pull into my garage,
- 12:06I can see their garage,
- 12:06which is not supposed to be
- 12:08a thing in the neighborhood.
- 12:10And I'll get home and one of
- 12:12their kids will be like the
- 12:14back tire of his car that
- 12:16we parked in the street.
- 12:17But the back tire will be on
- 12:18my grass and I lose my ever loving mind.
- 12:23I'm like,
- 12:23I'm like actually physically angry.
- 12:26I want to take the tow strap
- 12:28out the back of my Jeep and
- 12:30hook it to Bryce's car and
- 12:31pull it out of the way.
- 12:33So, yeah, I feel you.
- 12:35I'll take your forty year
- 12:37old grumpy old man and I will raise you.
- 12:41If I if I'm driving down my
- 12:42street and a car is this
- 12:45far off the curb.
- 12:48Giving me little space to get by.
- 12:52I lose my I want to get out,
- 12:54write a note on, put it on the windshield,
- 12:57learn how to park your car.
- 13:00So FYI, don't ask me how I know this,
- 13:03but you can order
- 13:05pre-posted pre-printed
- 13:07sticky notes from Amazon
- 13:11and you can write whatever
- 13:12you want on them.
- 13:14Again, don't ask me how I know that.
- 13:19My wife may or may not be
- 13:21waiting for me to pull the
- 13:22trigger on them to go get them.
- 13:24Cause we got the exact same
- 13:25problem in my neighborhood.
- 13:26I go to turn.
- 13:28The street before I turned
- 13:29on in my house and people
- 13:30are just in the parked in
- 13:32the street for no,
- 13:33and there's nobody in their driveway.
- 13:36That's the part that, but that really,
- 13:38like, there's nobody in the driveway.
- 13:39Why are you parked in the street?
- 13:42Like, I don't,
- 13:42I can't wrap my head around
- 13:44it and it drives me absolutely bananas.
- 13:47Cause I don't do that.
- 13:48I would never do that.
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:50Before we did the lunch with,
- 13:53on the round table,
- 13:54I talked about how I had a
- 13:55woodpecker last summer in fall.
- 13:57I remember that.
- 13:58And I would run out the door,
- 13:59and I would yell at the
- 14:00woodpecker to get going,
- 14:03like throughout the day.
- 14:04I would hear him.
- 14:05Old man yells at bird.
- 14:08I have a post out on my front porch,
- 14:10and he would peck right through that post,
- 14:14right?
- 14:16Yeah.
- 14:16All fall, I'm yelling at this thing.
- 14:18And I literally had my BB gun loaded,
- 14:21ready to take him out.
- 14:23And then like winter came
- 14:25and it kind of went away.
- 14:26But what I didn't realize is
- 14:28he got the whole way through.
- 14:31So now I have squirrels living in my post,
- 14:37taking their nuts and seeds
- 14:39into the hole and down in.
- 14:41And so I go out,
- 14:42like take my dog out and I
- 14:43hear the rustling inside my
- 14:45post out on the front, on my front porch.
- 14:51So now how do I get the
- 14:52squirrels out before I plug that hole in?
- 14:57Yeah.
- 14:58I'm going to have dead
- 14:59carcasses in my pole
- 15:02smelling up the joint.
- 15:04Well, I feel like if you go to,
- 15:05you get ready to plug it,
- 15:06they're going to get scared
- 15:07and they're going to get out the hole.
- 15:08They're not just going to
- 15:09hide up in there.
- 15:09They're going to get out.
- 15:12Yeah.
- 15:12No, in my life,
- 15:14as I'm plugging it right
- 15:15into like Clark Griswold me right,
- 15:17right to the face.
- 15:22I mean, possibly.
- 15:24Oh,
- 15:24you don't yell squirrel and wreck the
- 15:25car.
- 15:25You ought to be all right.
- 15:31The plight of the suburban grumpy old man.
- 15:33A hundred percent.
- 15:34A hundred percent.
- 15:35A hundred percent.
- 15:38Old man yells at cloud.
- 15:39The other thing that gets to me, man,
- 15:42is because I have a dog and the dog,
- 15:44like anytime somebody comes
- 15:45to my front yard, he loses his mind.
- 15:48So I have all these like
- 15:51elementary school age kids that live
- 15:53around me for some reason
- 15:57when they get off the bus
- 15:58at the end of the street
- 15:59it's probably a hundred
- 16:01yards away they mosey down
- 16:04the street and they seem to
- 16:05gather and um and convene
- 16:10some kind of meeting right
- 16:12in front of my house every
- 16:14day after school and my dog
- 16:18loses his mind and I'm just like
- 16:21that's where I want to run up,
- 16:22run out the door and say,
- 16:24you kids get off my, you know,
- 16:27actually get off my lawn.
- 16:29Yes.
- 16:32Truly.
- 16:32That's fantastic.
- 16:34That's fantastic.
- 16:35And they're not doing anything.
- 16:36That's the best part about it.
- 16:37When you have kids,
- 16:39you're more tolerant of all that, right?
- 16:43You've lost all tolerance for that,
- 16:44that stuff.
- 16:47It is crazy.
- 16:48Looking outside.
- 16:49What are those kids doing?
- 16:51Nevermind the fact that you guys didn't,
- 16:52you always used to be doing
- 16:53the same thing and they're
- 16:54now grown and it's not there.
- 16:55It's the only thing that's changed.
- 16:57Well,
- 16:57I think the other thing is that this
- 16:58is my office now, right?
- 16:59I work from home.
- 17:01So like I finished my day at five Eastern,
- 17:04the kids come home from school at three.
- 17:05So I'm in the middle of my
- 17:06work day and then I get
- 17:08disrupted with this dog and everything.
- 17:10So I think that adds to the
- 17:12aggravation of it all,
- 17:14but I'd probably still be
- 17:15that grumpy guy anyway.
- 17:16But,
- 17:19I can't wait, dude.
- 17:19I wish I had a good front
- 17:20porch to sit on so that
- 17:21when I did get old and was
- 17:23retired at home,
- 17:23I couldn't just yell at
- 17:26people that happened by.
- 17:29Get out of here.
- 17:31Reed echoes what my wife
- 17:32says every time we drive in
- 17:33our neighborhood.
- 17:35Why can't you park in your driveway?
- 17:38It's what it's there for.
- 17:40Right.
- 17:42Going out of our neighborhood,
- 17:45like the last little bend
- 17:46before you go out,
- 17:48People park on that bend.
- 17:50It is a complete blind curve.
- 17:54And you're just praying
- 17:55nothing's coming the other
- 17:56way at any rate of speed.
- 17:58Jesus Christ.
- 18:05Yeah.
- 18:05Better yet, park in your bloody garage.
- 18:08Amen.
- 18:10James checking in from the West Coast.
- 18:14Up early?
- 18:15Not early now, but
- 18:18I mean early enough and
- 18:19still nine thirty four over
- 18:20there yeah so one thing I
- 18:24did want to do um today
- 18:25that I I kind of omitted
- 18:27yesterday is because we
- 18:28were talking about carolyn
- 18:29and jamie and winning their
- 18:30open divisions and how
- 18:33incredibly fit they are
- 18:36And how privileged we are
- 18:37that we get that
- 18:38perspective from those two
- 18:40ladies every Sunday night.
- 18:42I am one of the luckiest
- 18:43guys in the world to be
- 18:44able to have those two as my co-hosts,
- 18:47giving that perspective as
- 18:48elite athletes.
- 18:51But we also had some
- 18:53audience members who have
- 18:55become friends tremendously.
- 18:58Two of them, especially,
- 18:59that won the Open as well.
- 19:01And one of them was Chris
- 19:02Anderson in your division.
- 19:05Yep.
- 19:06He's become a great friend of the show.
- 19:08I got to know him through the burgers.
- 19:11Yep, he's fit, dude.
- 19:12That dude's fit.
- 19:13And Rudy took second in the open.
- 19:17To J.R.
- 19:19Howell, of all people,
- 19:20I did not see that coming.
- 19:22Well, Chris Anderson took first.
- 19:25Yeah, but in Rudy's division.
- 19:27Oh, in that two-and-five-three?
- 19:30Rudy took second.
- 19:33To J.R.
- 19:34Howell.
- 19:35Oh, wow.
- 19:37Yeah.
- 19:38I didn't see that coming like that.
- 19:41I mean, I know J.R.
- 19:42's fit, obviously,
- 19:43but I also like I have
- 19:46worked out next to Rudy.
- 19:47Like I know how fit that dude is.
- 19:49And it is that is wild to me
- 19:51that I didn't realize J.R.
- 19:53was that fit.
- 19:55yeah I've done documentaries
- 19:57on rudy and they're both
- 20:00still living out there on
- 20:01youtube uh that guy is
- 20:03amazing and as good of an
- 20:05athlete as he is he's that
- 20:08much better a person a
- 20:11hundred percent the same
- 20:14way I feel about chris
- 20:14anderson um super fit dude
- 20:18but like one of the nicest
- 20:19guys you'll ever meet
- 20:21And then the other person
- 20:22from our crew that killed
- 20:24it is Denise Moore.
- 20:27Denise Moore, who's always in the chat,
- 20:31ended up winning the sixty
- 20:32five to sixty nine year old division.
- 20:35Let's go.
- 20:36So I want to shout out to
- 20:38those two who are clear
- 20:40friends of the show and so
- 20:42happy for them.
- 20:43It just.
- 20:45swells up my pride and my
- 20:47beans in my heart,
- 20:49whatever those sayings are.
- 20:54They're killing it like that.
- 20:56The cockles,
- 20:57warms the cockles of your heart.
- 20:58I don't know exactly where that part is.
- 21:01I knew the current Cajun guy
- 21:02would know the euphemism.
- 21:07Cockles of the heart, baby.
- 21:08Cockles of the heart.
- 21:10Shay says,
- 21:10always look forward to the Sunday show.
- 21:13Shay,
- 21:14you're one of the best commenters in
- 21:16our group.
- 21:17Love getting your chats
- 21:20every Monday morning after
- 21:21the show and getting your input.
- 21:24Thankful that you're there.
- 21:26Tristan, dude, JR is fit fit.
- 21:31Obviously.
- 21:31Yeah.
- 21:33Obviously.
- 21:36Yeah.
- 21:36I wish,
- 21:38I think that's the hardest thing
- 21:39with the masters is like to
- 21:40do a deep dive into what all happened.
- 21:43There's so many divisions,
- 21:46so many divisions that you
- 21:47have to get through to kind of see it.
- 21:49And that my two co-hosts are
- 21:51in that group.
- 21:52Those are the names I look for first.
- 21:54Yeah.
- 21:56It's Jamie and Carolyn and then Rudy.
- 22:00because those are my like
- 22:01close close friends um and
- 22:04then it's like denise and
- 22:06then it's then it looks
- 22:07through the rest like all
- 22:09of my other friends that
- 22:10I've met through this
- 22:11process yeah that's when
- 22:14I'm looking at the lead
- 22:14award that's what I'm
- 22:15looking for is people I've
- 22:16competed against uh people
- 22:18I've met met on instagram
- 22:22that you know I I'm
- 22:23friendly with or whatever I
- 22:24kind of watch those people
- 22:26because that's what that's people I know
- 22:28know and that's the people I
- 22:29would think or uh or not
- 22:30think I would know her
- 22:32roughly how fit they are
- 22:33and have a good at least a
- 22:34good grasp on it I would
- 22:37say either competing
- 22:39against them in person
- 22:42online through qualifiers
- 22:43that that type of deal uh
- 22:45yeah that's the people
- 22:46that's people I'm looking
- 22:47forward to and then you
- 22:48know the people I know jamie and
- 22:53good lord, the vast amount of people.
- 22:55I'm like, oh, hey, there's that guy.
- 22:57Oh, hey,
- 22:57there's that guy or that girl or
- 22:59whoever it might be.
- 23:01What Jamie and Carolyn did
- 23:02is absolutely bonkers.
- 23:05I don't even know a good way to put it.
- 23:07It's bananas freaking crazy.
- 23:11I would say some of the
- 23:14stuff that Jamie's still doing at her age,
- 23:18not that she's old by a
- 23:19stretch of the imagination,
- 23:20but that girl is fit, dude.
- 23:24I don't think people
- 23:25understand exactly how fit
- 23:26she actually is, but it's a lot.
- 23:30When you see that Caroline got a hat trick,
- 23:34and she's up against the
- 23:36likes of Andrea Nistler and
- 23:38Caroline Klutz and Kristen Holta,
- 23:43and that she pulled off
- 23:44three straight wins.
- 23:45Badass, dude.
- 23:49Yeah.
- 23:51That probably does not get
- 23:52enough praise around the space.
- 23:56That's an impressive, impressive stat.
- 23:58And you got Colton one, one,
- 24:00two is mighty impressive as well.
- 24:05I thought,
- 24:07so as far as Colton is concerned,
- 24:09like after he won the second one,
- 24:11I was like, okay,
- 24:11he's been away in the open,
- 24:12but I did not see him.
- 24:15doing what he did on the
- 24:17last one like I figured
- 24:18he'd be in the top ten
- 24:19somewhere you know I'm
- 24:21saying I have a score safe
- 24:22enough for him to win the
- 24:24open but not that he was
- 24:26going to do that like
- 24:28that's that's another one
- 24:31dude like that dude is he's sick with it
- 24:34Uh,
- 24:36so I have a couple of questions about
- 24:37this.
- 24:38I'm totally off what I had
- 24:39planned on talking about today.
- 24:41Um, but that's cool.
- 24:45Okay.
- 24:45So what is on the women's side?
- 24:48First of all, Lucy Campbell,
- 24:51we talked about her
- 24:52comeback after water
- 24:53Palooza because of what she
- 24:54did there and then back
- 24:56that up with a third place
- 24:58finish in the open.
- 25:00Like that is one cool story.
- 25:04Yeah, good on her, man.
- 25:06Good on her.
- 25:07May not be able to ever lift
- 25:08anything again to her
- 25:12finishes at Waterpalooza
- 25:14and now the Open.
- 25:15Should be one of the top
- 25:16stories that CrossFit is
- 25:18pumping out there going into semis.
- 25:23If they're not talking about it,
- 25:24if they're not following
- 25:25her around or putting something together,
- 25:27whatever footage and
- 25:29whatnot they have interviews,
- 25:30they should be.
- 25:31They're missing a huge
- 25:32opportunity if they're not.
- 25:34Yeah.
- 25:36What an amazing comeback story.
- 25:39I mean, I know the chills I got, like,
- 25:40the year I followed Emily
- 25:41after she had the arm
- 25:43surgery at the games and getting, like,
- 25:46talking to Dr. Rocket and
- 25:47all that stuff of what entailed there.
- 25:50Like,
- 25:50Lucy's injury was maybe not as
- 25:55life-threatening,
- 25:55but it was way more career-threatening.
- 25:57Right.
- 25:59Yeah.
- 26:00Your back is mostly your body.
- 26:03Well, it's your wrist.
- 26:04Like, and the surgery, she had to fix it.
- 26:07She cut, they shortened her wrist.
- 26:10They cut it off.
- 26:15I was not aware of that.
- 26:17Yeah.
- 26:17I knew she was hurt.
- 26:18I didn't realize it was to that extent.
- 26:20And I got her conflated with,
- 26:24what's her name?
- 26:25That is still trying to get
- 26:26back from the back.
- 26:27Okay.
- 26:28Yeah, that's insane.
- 26:30Yeah.
- 26:30And if you watch,
- 26:31she did like the
- 26:32Frankenstein cleans for a
- 26:35while because her wrist was so bad.
- 26:38But now she's able to do all the stuff.
- 26:40So, yeah.
- 26:42But the reason I pulled this
- 26:44up is that my question to you is,
- 26:47what is more impressive?
- 26:49And I think you can argue either way.
- 26:51Miriam Von Rohr going one, one,
- 26:53twelve or one, one,
- 26:54eleven or Fee going three, four, seven.
- 27:02I think you can look at it
- 27:03either way to be quite
- 27:05honest with you um scroll
- 27:06back over a little bit let
- 27:07me see the times on the on
- 27:09the n one so we got eleven
- 27:12eleven minutes maram was
- 27:14eleven sixteen okay so
- 27:16you're talking about
- 27:16sixteen seconds separating
- 27:19what is that four places is that right
- 27:24If it's me, granted,
- 27:26nothing taken away from Miriam because,
- 27:29I mean, two firsts and then an eleventh.
- 27:31But the consistency that Fi
- 27:34is putting up with a third, a fourth,
- 27:36and a seventh, you know what I mean?
- 27:41And most of these tests were motor tests.
- 27:44Everybody seems to be in
- 27:44agreement as far as that
- 27:46because we didn't really
- 27:46see anything super heavy.
- 27:48Yes, there was more muscle-ups,
- 27:50but these are elite of the
- 27:51elite of the elite.
- 27:53for me fee doing what she
- 27:56did and still staying right
- 27:58there in that same you know
- 27:59because yeah okay you got
- 28:01two first and you got an
- 28:02eleventh if she was in and
- 28:05she still won by how many
- 28:07points by one point whereas
- 28:10fee got third fourth
- 28:12seventh all within that you
- 28:13know three top tens
- 28:14basically um one top three
- 28:18for my money that's that's
- 28:20probably edges it out a little bit
- 28:22What Miriam did is, I mean, it's,
- 28:26I won't say it's unheard of
- 28:27because Colton did the same thing,
- 28:28but it's until this year,
- 28:30it was definitely unheard of.
- 28:33I just think that's insane.
- 28:34Yeah.
- 28:34Right there.
- 28:39The other thing I wanted to
- 28:40say is if you look at the
- 28:42winner of twenty five point three,
- 28:45it was Olivia Kerstetter at ten eighteen.
- 28:48She was rowing fifty
- 28:49calories with the guys.
- 28:54I heard Dallin and Hopper and Madera say,
- 28:57if she actually got to do
- 28:59the forty calories instead
- 29:00of the fifty that most
- 29:02women get to do in that workout,
- 29:04she would have beat Dallin.
- 29:07Oh,
- 29:08I have no problem believing that
- 29:09whatsoever.
- 29:13That's insane.
- 29:13I would like to know what her, like,
- 29:17I like that if she's got it on video,
- 29:19I would like to go see that
- 29:20just to be able to see, like,
- 29:21what she was pulling on the roller.
- 29:24know what I'm saying one
- 29:25thing we know about olivia
- 29:26is she's never met a
- 29:27barbell she didn't like
- 29:29that is correct that is
- 29:31correct she is super strong
- 29:33like it's silly I would
- 29:36like to see what she was
- 29:37rolling and like if she if
- 29:40she just got on and just
- 29:42you know I'm saying just
- 29:43stroke the entire way if
- 29:44she had a plan you know
- 29:46kind of roll the first five
- 29:48calories and then kind of
- 29:49you know get settled in and
- 29:50then start picking up the pace
- 29:52or just if she just blasted
- 29:54it the entire time,
- 29:55I would really like to be
- 29:56able to go and do like a little,
- 29:59not a deep dive,
- 30:00but a dive on that just to
- 30:01see what it was because
- 30:03it's a shame or she doesn't
- 30:04have a video up.
- 30:05Um, but maybe she has a video somewhere.
- 30:08Yeah.
- 30:12Yeah.
- 30:13Um,
- 30:14A couple other things.
- 30:17We have that tournament challenge,
- 30:18NCAA tournament bracket.
- 30:20The links are in the
- 30:22description of this YouTube,
- 30:24and they'll be in the
- 30:25description of the audio as well.
- 30:29And it's just for fun,
- 30:30just to compete against each other.
- 30:33I don't watch a ton of
- 30:34college basketball anymore, but I thought,
- 30:36what the hell?
- 30:37It'll give me a reason to
- 30:38watch a couple games over
- 30:40the next couple weeks to
- 30:42see where I'm at and see
- 30:43how I compete against my friends.
- 30:46and I have no doubt in that
- 30:47fight either and then
- 30:51whoever wins with the
- 30:53highest score between the
- 30:54two I will put together a
- 30:55prize pack and get out to
- 30:57them for winning that so
- 31:01nothing to enter all free
- 31:04free free just for fun for
- 31:06us to kind of have some
- 31:06bragging rights and
- 31:08something to talk about
- 31:08over the next few weeks and
- 31:11yeah you might win a prize pack
- 31:14sign up people like
- 31:15subscribe sign up how you
- 31:16like that three things
- 31:18three things at once yeah
- 31:18there you go uh the last
- 31:21question I I wanted to ask
- 31:23you uh and get your input
- 31:25is are we in a new golden
- 31:27age of crossfit yes I have
- 31:32I I'm glad you actually
- 31:34asked that because I was
- 31:35thinking about this the
- 31:36other day and I think it
- 31:37happens in a lot of sports
- 31:40Right.
- 31:41Something gets real popular
- 31:42for a little while.
- 31:43And then something weird happens.
- 31:45Doesn't necessarily like,
- 31:46it's not necessarily that
- 31:47somebody passes away, you know,
- 31:50on the field or on the
- 31:51court or whatever it is,
- 31:52but something happens and
- 31:54it takes the shine off of it.
- 31:56Right.
- 31:57And people start feeling
- 31:58some sort of way about it and all,
- 31:59it's not like it used to be and blah,
- 32:01blah, blah, whatever.
- 32:02And it sort of takes a dip
- 32:05and then it starts building back up.
- 32:07Right.
- 32:11Tristan, we'll get to that in a second,
- 32:13a new golden age.
- 32:16Well, what I would say that that is,
- 32:18is that,
- 32:18did you know you were in a golden
- 32:19age whenever we had rich and, uh,
- 32:25Dan Bailey and Josh bridges
- 32:27and all of those guys that
- 32:28were such larger than life personalities.
- 32:33You know what I'm saying?
- 32:35Because you look at it back
- 32:35at it now and you're like, man,
- 32:37That was great times with
- 32:39these people who were in this,
- 32:41in the space and who were,
- 32:43I won't say in your face,
- 32:44cause that doesn't sound right,
- 32:45but they were alive, if that makes sense.
- 32:48And then for a while,
- 32:49like once Matt kind of got
- 32:50out of it and he was the
- 32:51only one like that was really,
- 32:53I won't say emotional,
- 32:55but you could feel his
- 32:56passion while he was on the floor.
- 32:58But do you say that's fair?
- 32:59You know what I'm saying?
- 33:00Like when he comes across the line,
- 33:01he was yelling deep on his
- 33:02chest and stuff like that.
- 33:04And Madero's run two years in a row.
- 33:07And one, what, one event, is that right?
- 33:11I think that's right.
- 33:14And it got it kind of,
- 33:15as far as the games
- 33:15themselves are concerned,
- 33:16it was kind of bland for a little while.
- 33:19And then media was going downhill.
- 33:21It wasn't any kind of like
- 33:22the only content coming out
- 33:23was from guys like you and Savan and,
- 33:27you know, Pedro and whatnot.
- 33:28And then that started
- 33:29building things back up.
- 33:31And then right now I would
- 33:33say right now here in this moment,
- 33:37The media team for the games is on fire.
- 33:41They are pumping out excellent content,
- 33:44like the little promo videos,
- 33:45the open announcements
- 33:47themselves were top notch
- 33:50as far as I'm concerned.
- 33:52They chose the right people.
- 33:54They had them in the right places.
- 33:56Everybody that you've heard
- 33:57speak about who was at the
- 33:58announcement said the
- 34:00atmosphere was electric the entire time.
- 34:03People fired up as far as
- 34:04that's concerned.
- 34:05They're pumping out regular content,
- 34:07not games related as well.
- 34:09Stuff about affiliates and a
- 34:12couple of personal stories
- 34:13and stuff like that, which again,
- 34:15hadn't happened for years.
- 34:18Right.
- 34:19So yeah, I would say,
- 34:21I don't know if we're necessarily in it,
- 34:23but I feel like we're,
- 34:24we're pushing back towards
- 34:26that because now we got
- 34:28like the Dallin and Jason and Justin and,
- 34:32you know,
- 34:33that are all Colton super competitive.
- 34:36Colton Colton's amazing, dude.
- 34:38Um,
- 34:38super competitive poking at each other
- 34:40the entire time talking shit, uh, Oh, and,
- 34:45or, or backing it up.
- 34:46Right.
- 34:47I mean,
- 34:48They're going head to head, toe to toe,
- 34:49and there's not anybody
- 34:51that you can see anyway
- 34:52that's better than them in
- 34:53the space right now.
- 34:55So I'm glad you answered
- 34:56that way because here's my counterpoint.
- 35:01In the golden age we had before,
- 35:04everybody mentions the Rich
- 35:05and the Dan and the Josh
- 35:07and the Matt Chan and all that stuff,
- 35:09right?
- 35:10Yeah.
- 35:10But everybody forgets to
- 35:12mention Annie and Camille
- 35:14and Sam Briggs and Lindsay
- 35:15Valenzuela and...
- 35:18to Elena Fortunato and all
- 35:20in that golden age of women
- 35:22at the same time.
- 35:23Yep.
- 35:26I think the guys are
- 35:28starting to get it in this
- 35:29era by producing their own
- 35:32media content and using
- 35:35other third party media opportunities, uh,
- 35:39to build, uh,
- 35:41a storyline for them so I
- 35:45think the guys are starting
- 35:46to get it and that we're
- 35:47moving into a new golden
- 35:49era of men but I think that
- 35:52the women are so private
- 35:55and competitive with
- 35:57everything they're doing
- 35:57we're not seeing their
- 36:00journey through the process
- 36:01like the men are allowing us to see
- 36:05Does that make sense?
- 36:05A hundred percent.
- 36:07Like Dallin and Jason and
- 36:10them are not afraid to post
- 36:11a score and say, Hey, this is what I did.
- 36:15Come get it.
- 36:15If you can.
- 36:16Yeah.
- 36:17Come get me.
- 36:17Come get some.
- 36:18Right.
- 36:18And they're willing to do it
- 36:19live on air to do that.
- 36:22I think the other thing that
- 36:23men have this time that
- 36:25they didn't in the previous
- 36:26golden era is they have a heel.
- 36:30I think Hopper is becoming the heel.
- 36:35And if you follow wrestling at all,
- 36:37a good heel makes the
- 36:38storyline ten times better.
- 36:41Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:43He is the person that no
- 36:45matter what he says, people dog him,
- 36:48people come after him.
- 36:51And I think that makes that
- 36:53storyline really, really, really,
- 36:57really good.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:59Yeah.
- 37:00You're right.
- 37:01What he can say,
- 37:01it doesn't matter what he says.
- 37:03Like he could go out and be like,
- 37:04the sky is blue and be like,
- 37:05did you hear Jason Hopper
- 37:06said the sky was blue?
- 37:08Well,
- 37:08and he's really good at when he like
- 37:10does a dig, he does,
- 37:12he can do it with a
- 37:12straight face where the
- 37:14other guys just laugh at
- 37:15themselves or right.
- 37:18And he will do it with a
- 37:18straight face to like,
- 37:19sell it more like a heel
- 37:21wooden wrestling.
- 37:25And Jeff, Jeffrey Birchfield said,
- 37:26is a heel different than a villain?
- 37:28Yes.
- 37:30Think of it as the antagonist in a story.
- 37:35He is that counter to the golden boy,
- 37:39Dallin Pepper,
- 37:39with the nice hair and the good values.
- 37:45And you look at James Sprague,
- 37:47very wholesome, young kid growing up.
- 37:51And Jason,
- 37:53while he has a lot of the same values,
- 37:56his digs can cut deeper.
- 38:00And it moves the storyline along.
- 38:03I would almost say he plays their game,
- 38:09that part, better than the others.
- 38:12He's better at doing that kind of stuff.
- 38:14He is probably the best one
- 38:17at talking shit because he will do it,
- 38:19like you said, with a straight face.
- 38:22And it sounds like he believes it.
- 38:27So take the instance during
- 38:28kill Taylor Colton, you do this.
- 38:30I'm telling everybody what your score was.
- 38:33Yeah.
- 38:33Like that cuts deeper than just like, Hey,
- 38:37you're short and you can't row.
- 38:39Like, you know what I mean?
- 38:41Like, like he's getting personal.
- 38:44Like I'm going to reveal something.
- 38:45You don't want me to reveal.
- 38:48If you go ahead with this,
- 38:50like he wanted that cash too.
- 38:52Like the heel wanted it.
- 38:53Yeah.
- 38:55Like, I'm going to give it to the kids.
- 38:58I'm going to donate the money.
- 39:00And Jason's like,
- 39:02you need to not do this so I get my cash.
- 39:08The one that he won where he just,
- 39:11he still had fifteen seconds left,
- 39:13twenty seconds left,
- 39:13whatever that one was,
- 39:15and he just got off the
- 39:15bike because he was like,
- 39:16nobody's beating that.
- 39:21Yeah.
- 39:22It's a
- 39:24Some people probably think
- 39:25it comes off as arrogant.
- 39:28He does the more eccentric
- 39:30celebrations when he wins an event.
- 39:34He has the showman aspect, the cocky,
- 39:38arrogant, pound the chest.
- 39:42I guess Josh Bridges might
- 39:43have been the heel back in the day.
- 39:47But you can be a likable heel.
- 39:50Yeah, everybody loves Josh Bridges.
- 39:51Right.
- 39:52It doesn't mean that people
- 39:53hate you or that you're bad.
- 39:55You're just the antagonist
- 39:57that moves the story forward.
- 39:59Josh Bridges was this little
- 40:00guy that had no business
- 40:01beating Rich Froning in anything,
- 40:03yet he could.
- 40:05Yeah.
- 40:06And when he did, he let you know he did.
- 40:09Well, when he won Murph,
- 40:13he called his shot before
- 40:14he got out on the field.
- 40:18Like, I'm winning this.
- 40:20Like, y'all can do whatever y'all want.
- 40:21I'm winning this.
- 40:21And he was ahead by a lot, a lot.
- 40:25Like,
- 40:25when he took off from his last set of
- 40:28air squats and he took out,
- 40:29he was out the stadium, I think,
- 40:30before he went to second
- 40:31place when he even got off the field.
- 40:34Came back in and watching a
- 40:36Josh Bridges celebration is
- 40:39almost like it's a
- 40:40religious experience at this point,
- 40:42right?
- 40:43I mean, you could feel it through him.
- 40:44And I think, yeah,
- 40:46same type thing is going on
- 40:48with old Jason there.
- 40:51I agree with Tristan,
- 40:52who is arguing with Kenneth
- 40:53at this point.
- 40:55Rich was never the heel.
- 40:57He was so beloved by everybody.
- 41:00You couldn't even make him
- 41:01the heel if you wanted to.
- 41:03No.
- 41:03No.
- 41:05And then he would just come
- 41:08out on Sunday and just win
- 41:10everything just because he was like, oh,
- 41:11it's time for me to win everything.
- 41:14And people still were like, oh,
- 41:15look at him.
- 41:16He's just out there winning.
- 41:17Yeah.
- 41:21Like Jason's the heel in a
- 41:22way where the other two are
- 41:24talking about how rich is the goat.
- 41:26And he's like, the hell he is.
- 41:28Matt's the goat.
- 41:29Like he's going to be the
- 41:31counter to whatever the others say.
- 41:34No matter if it's right or wrong.
- 41:36Right.
- 41:40Yeah.
- 41:41Oh.
- 41:44But Stone Cold did.
- 41:46He was the antagonist a lot.
- 41:52So I remember watching Stone
- 41:54Cold drive into the stadium in his truck,
- 42:01get out with a six-pack of tall boys,
- 42:04stand on the roof of the
- 42:06truck because somebody was
- 42:07in the ring talking about him,
- 42:08and he just sat there
- 42:09drinking a beer looking at him.
- 42:10Yeah.
- 42:11Like,
- 42:12that's the kind of behavior we're
- 42:13talking about.
- 42:14Like, that's the kind of,
- 42:16if Jason Hopper drank,
- 42:18he would probably do some shit like that.
- 42:19Like, oh, all right, we just talking shit?
- 42:21Okay, cool.
- 42:22Uh,
- 42:22train to lift says Matt was more of a
- 42:24heel than rich.
- 42:25Matt was an awesome heel career.
- 42:29Go back and watch the behind
- 42:30the scenes of and when Matt took second,
- 42:37he was every bit the heel.
- 42:40He wanted all that smoke.
- 42:44When they asked him in one
- 42:45of the behind the scenes,
- 42:47when they asked him if it
- 42:48was worth it and he said, turn, I said,
- 42:49did I win?
- 42:52Oh, okay.
- 42:53So I guess not.
- 43:00Hopper's heel era started
- 43:02after he won the handstand
- 43:03walk at syndicate,
- 43:04then did the cigarette celebration.
- 43:06Yes.
- 43:07Yes.
- 43:07That's exactly what was in
- 43:08my head when I was thinking Hopper,
- 43:11the heel,
- 43:12those types of celebrations are
- 43:14just different.
- 43:15A hundred percent.
- 43:18A hundred percent.
- 43:19I'm here for it too, dude.
- 43:20Like me, like,
- 43:21Yeah.
- 43:22We're seeing it for years.
- 43:23We need somebody like that.
- 43:25Yeah.
- 43:25Charlie and I have argued
- 43:26that on the round table
- 43:27since this podcast has been
- 43:29around that the sport needed a heel.
- 43:33Absolutely.
- 43:34And we thought Ricky was it.
- 43:35And then he popped.
- 43:36Then, you know,
- 43:37like we thought there were
- 43:39candidates and none of them have held up.
- 43:41Hopper's got the fitness
- 43:43behind him to be good
- 43:44enough to be the heel.
- 43:48I don't know if
- 43:53Talking about Ricky,
- 43:54I don't know if he never
- 43:56would have popped if he had
- 43:58got to that status.
- 44:00Does that make sense?
- 44:01I think the only reason
- 44:02people started thinking
- 44:03that was because he popped
- 44:05and because he was still
- 44:06doing the open workouts and
- 44:08screwing up the camera,
- 44:09beat that and whatnot.
- 44:13I was at that game.
- 44:15He was cocky.
- 44:16He was brash.
- 44:18He was letting everybody
- 44:19know at that game's.
- 44:23Okay, I did not know that.
- 44:24He was becoming the heel
- 44:25during that games.
- 44:27That is different.
- 44:28I had a front row seat to that.
- 44:31I hated him by Sunday.
- 44:33And that was before he ever
- 44:36popped and did any of the other stuff.
- 44:38Yeah, because nobody knew for...
- 44:40Now, I would say the comeback,
- 44:42he had to fix that image to
- 44:45be accepted back into the community.
- 44:47And he's done an amazing job of that.
- 44:49But the young Ricky in two
- 44:51thousand seventeen, every bit the heel.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:55No, because everybody loves that dude now.
- 44:57Yeah.
- 44:58Everybody.
- 44:59I was one of those ones when
- 45:00he when his band first came up as being,
- 45:03you know.
- 45:04or was first,
- 45:05he was going to be able to compete again.
- 45:06I was one of the people that was like,
- 45:08okay, whatever.
- 45:08I'm a steroid boy, whatever.
- 45:10But kudos to him.
- 45:14He turned it around
- 45:15completely because now everybody's like,
- 45:16yay, Ricky Mack.
- 45:17Love that guy.
- 45:20And that was not a thing beforehand.
- 45:23I think Kenneth makes a good point.
- 45:24Roman would have been the ultimate heel.
- 45:26I think he could have been.
- 45:27The problem is he got
- 45:28delayed so long in actually
- 45:30getting to compete over
- 45:31here that by the time he did,
- 45:34he was at that age where
- 45:35injury started to take over
- 45:37and other things.
- 45:39He would have been good
- 45:41because he would have had
- 45:41the fitness to back it up.
- 45:44And what's happened now is I think...
- 45:48And I kind of hope I'm wrong.
- 45:51I think that he has been
- 45:52hurt so much that his
- 45:54fitness has decreased.
- 45:56He just can't train like he
- 45:57could back before he got
- 46:01admitted into the U.S.
- 46:04I am curious to see what
- 46:05he's going to do for
- 46:06semifinals at this point.
- 46:08Like just judging off of
- 46:09what I've seen from him from the open.
- 46:12see you know what I'm saying
- 46:13like I think you're correct
- 46:15I'm curious to see how much
- 46:17he's either falling off or
- 46:18if we're just not peaking
- 46:19right now if you remember
- 46:21he was competitive last
- 46:22year's semifinals it was
- 46:24him hopper and pepper and
- 46:27adler in the in the east um
- 46:29and that was a very
- 46:30competitive matchup with
- 46:32those four it's the games
- 46:34he just he broke down yeah
- 46:37which was a weird games
- 46:38anyway and it's hard to put
- 46:39much on it but
- 46:40yeah that's why I don't and
- 46:44not to take anything away
- 46:45from from spray being the
- 46:47champ but like every time
- 46:48somebody says something
- 46:48about how somebody
- 46:49performed last year okay
- 46:51yeah but it was also very
- 46:54weird games games to begin
- 46:56like probably the strangest
- 46:58one that's ever taken place
- 46:59um so as far as that goes
- 47:03well I'm already late back
- 47:05from my lunch hour so
- 47:09The rest of you hooligans
- 47:10get back to work.
- 47:11We're done here.
- 47:12We will see you tomorrow on
- 47:15Clydesdale Lunch.
- 47:16Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 47:18Something like that.
- 47:18Something like that.
- 47:19Scratch it, flip it, do that thing.
- 47:22Lunch with the Clydesdale tomorrow.
- 47:23Bye.
