- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering One Piece, episodes 920 and 921. A great sensation,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Sanji's special soba, and luxurious and gorgeous, Wano's most beautiful woman,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Komura Saki. Plus, the cover story sent to me by Florian.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I really hope I said that at all correct. Oh boy.
- 0:42Speaker 1: You guys, I'm pretty excited about this character that has
- 0:46Speaker 1: been introduced. I am here for it. Welcome to Spoil Me.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:16Speaker 1: very much to Seraphim for commissioning this episode. Now, technically
- 1:21Speaker 1: Florian commissioned it, but Seraphim commissioned last week's episode, and
- 1:25Speaker 1: I credited Florian with that one. So I'm giving the
- 1:29Speaker 1: credit to Seraphim this week to make up for it.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And Seraphim, my apologies for not seeing that until now. Okay,
- 1:39Speaker 1: so we had a little bit of a technical problem.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And so I had to start over, but I was
- 1:44Speaker 1: only like 10 minutes in. So we're good. And I
- 1:49Speaker 1: am going to, I'm gonna, I'm gonna take a different
- 1:53Speaker 1: tag here. So, okay. Okay. Komurasaki is an MVP for
- 2:04Speaker 1: me already at this point in this story. Now here's
- 2:07Speaker 1: the thing. I love bitches. There are different types of
- 2:19Speaker 1: fictional bitches, right? There are different types of real-world bitches,
- 2:22Speaker 1: but we're not talking about real-world. We're talking about fictional
- 2:24Speaker 1: bitches right now. Fictional bitches range from, oh my god,
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm rich and I'm classist, or oh, I'm just bigoted
- 2:32Speaker 1: because I hate you guys, or I can never be
- 2:36Speaker 1: pleased by anything and I'm You know, there's all kinds of,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but one of my favorite types of bitch is a
- 2:47Speaker 1: woman who leverages exactly what she has been told is
- 2:55Speaker 1: expected of her in a way that nobody wanted or
- 2:59Speaker 1: thought was allowed. When you, as a cis woman, Trans
- 3:07Speaker 1: women are going to have a really different experience with this,
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think, in certain ways. Because if your assigned gender
- 3:14Speaker 1: at birth is male, and you begin to realize, depending
- 3:21Speaker 1: on the way in which you're seen, you are likely
- 3:27Speaker 1: to be socialized as male for the beginning of your life,
- 3:31Speaker 1: which I think just changes the whole vibe. of your
- 3:35Speaker 1: experience as a woman, when you're cis, it's like.
- 3:39Speaker 2: The toxicity of the expectations of your gender, alleged gender.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Are really difficult to describe. And there is definite toxicity
- 3:57Speaker 1: in the expectations of men as well. But it's just
- 4:01Speaker 1: a completely different sensation, right? It's different. And I don't
- 4:07Speaker 1: have personal experience with that beyond understanding like patriarchy and
- 4:11Speaker 1: what the expectations are of men. A woman, according to
- 4:18Speaker 1: how I was raised, and this is not my parents,
- 4:22Speaker 1: this is media. My mother was a very feminist woman,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but she still really centered men. And I think it
- 4:30Speaker 1: was an odd combination. She was somebody who was like
- 4:33Speaker 1: extremely conservative. compelled by wanting male approval, but also very feminist.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And so those things were difficult to process. And so
- 4:44Speaker 1: she raised me as like being feminist and believing in
- 4:50Speaker 1: myself and yada yada, but also instilled in me a
- 4:54Speaker 1: real desire for male approval also, and a really misogynist
- 5:00Speaker 1: at its base understanding of like what I was supposed
- 5:04Speaker 1: to behave like and look like. And the thing with,
- 5:08Speaker 1: with the expectations of women is that you are meant
- 5:12Speaker 1: to be really attractive, but if you're too attractive, then
- 5:19Speaker 1: it's a problem. So you have to be sexy, but
- 5:23Speaker 1: you can't be like sexy and like overtly, or you're
- 5:26Speaker 1: a slut, but you can't be rude and, And real,
- 5:31Speaker 1: real modest because that's too far on the other extreme.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So you have to like navigate these completely opposing things.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And it changes all the time is the problem. It
- 5:44Speaker 1: changes depending on who you surround yourself with. It changes
- 5:48Speaker 1: depending on what year you're in. It changes depending on
- 5:52Speaker 1: what job you have or if you have children or not.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Like all of the expectations are all over the place.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And when a woman decides that she is going, she's,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know, looks in the mirror and is like, okay,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I have got it. I have got it. And she decides,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I am going to use my beauty only to get
- 6:20Speaker 1: myself the shit I want. We have a real problem
- 6:25Speaker 1: with that as a society. Despite telling women that their
- 6:31Speaker 1: appearance is like 85% at minimum of their overall worth
- 6:36Speaker 1: as a human being. So when a beautiful woman is like, Oh,
- 6:41Speaker 1: it is okay. Bet. I guess I'll cash in on this.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And everybody's like, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. I really get like,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I love seeing it so much. And it's part of
- 6:55Speaker 1: like the, the injustice of, of getting older and beginning
- 6:59Speaker 1: to understand and see the world the way it really is,
- 7:02Speaker 1: but no longer having the power. There are some women
- 7:07Speaker 1: who managed to retain it. But for myself, when I
- 7:10Speaker 1: was in my 20s, I was stunning. I do not
- 7:15Speaker 1: feel stunning at all. This is not fishing. This is just, okay,
- 7:19Speaker 1: there was a way that I was reacted to, and
- 7:21Speaker 1: that is not happening anymore. And I wish so much
- 7:24Speaker 1: that I had done some shit like this, I don't
- 7:27Speaker 1: think I really would have had the heart for it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Not to go this hard. But at least I wish
- 7:34Speaker 1: that I had been a stripper for a while. You
- 7:37Speaker 1: could clean up. You know what I'm saying? Like, I really,
- 7:41Speaker 1: really regret that I didn't understand the power that I held.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And all I used it for was to get male approval.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And where the fuck has that gotten me in life? Like,
- 7:52Speaker 1: what good has that been? It's worthless. Give me money.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Give me money for it. So if I could go
- 8:00Speaker 1: back in time, I would tell myself, you need to
- 8:05Speaker 1: exploit this and otherwise just ignore men and your life
- 8:12Speaker 1: will be so much better in so many different ways.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I don't know if I'd listen to myself. That's the problem.
- 8:20Speaker 1: When we're young, we're very stupid. And that's kind of
- 8:23Speaker 1: part of the appeal of young women to men as well,
- 8:26Speaker 1: is that they don't know. They don't know yet. Anyway,
- 8:30Speaker 1: so Komurasaki, our introduction to her, and forgive me, I
- 8:40Speaker 1: know I'm not really going in order of when things happen.
- 8:43Speaker 1: You know what? I'll take one moment to just talk
- 8:46Speaker 1: about Toko, Otoko. That is the little girl's name, right?
- 8:54Speaker 1: And it's a joke because Otaka is like cross-dressing or something.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Help me out here, guys, because I know that there
- 9:01Speaker 1: was something about the joke of being a boy or
- 9:04Speaker 1: girl in her explaining what her name was. But I
- 9:07Speaker 1: was like, I feel like I'm just barely missing this
- 9:10Speaker 1: and I almost have it. I just despise Toko. I'm
- 9:16Speaker 1: going to say this. I'm sorry, everybody. Otama is my
- 9:22Speaker 1: like favorite child from one piece that I can recall.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm sure there's going to be another one that you
- 9:27Speaker 1: guys bring up and I'll be like, Oh yeah. But like,
- 9:30Speaker 1: she's just really, really adorable. Toko is like, she's really creepy.
- 9:39Speaker 1: She's like a sleep paralysis demon. Like there's just, it's
- 9:45Speaker 1: the fact that she's crying, but also smiling. And, how
- 9:50Speaker 1: unnerving that combination is. the there's this like wide eyed
- 9:55Speaker 1: thing with these like eyelashes that it almost looks like
- 10:01Speaker 1: I imagine in life her looking like the Megan doll
- 10:06Speaker 1: or something you know she's just got a whole look
- 10:12Speaker 1: and energy that is Lena in the chat says unsettling
- 10:18Speaker 1: and there it is Yes. Unsettling. I do not like her.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And I did not like her. And it was really
- 10:25Speaker 1: like puzzling me when everybody is just like, that kid's
- 10:31Speaker 1: all right. And I was like, y'all, your judgment's way off.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But Seraphim says, so her name is Toko. But if
- 10:41Speaker 1: you put the O honorific in front, Otoko is Japanese
- 10:44Speaker 1: for man slash male. Ah, okay. Okay. Um, okay. Why
- 10:52Speaker 1: would you, if you know that the honorific that everybody's
- 10:54Speaker 1: going to be using is an O, why would you
- 10:57Speaker 1: name your child a thing that is going to like,
- 10:59Speaker 1: come on, think it through parents, Jesus. Um, but anyway,
- 11:04Speaker 1: so this, uh, this child is evidently like a worker.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I don't know what, maybe apprentice is the right word
- 11:19Speaker 1: for Komurasaki. Komurasaki is a Gesha, right? And like, because there's,
- 11:31Speaker 1: there's mention of like a pleasure house and I'm not
- 11:33Speaker 1: sure if it's a translation thing because I don't know
- 11:37Speaker 1: if that is synonymous with the place that Geshas would
- 11:40Speaker 1: work or if it's supposed to be that she's much like,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I think that a lot of the Western idea of
- 11:49Speaker 1: what a geisha is, is that they are sex workers.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And I think that that could sometimes be true, but
- 11:55Speaker 1: I do not think that those are synonymous by any means.
- 11:58Speaker 1: So I'm trying to like, make sure that I get right,
- 12:02Speaker 1: whatever is going on with her. And the way that
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm interpreting this is that low key, she's a sex worker,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but because we're trying to do a slightly more kid
- 12:15Speaker 1: friendly thing, storytelling version of this, we can't have that
- 12:19Speaker 1: be explicitly said. So we're going to kind of pouch
- 12:24Speaker 1: it in all of this other, you know, Lena says
- 12:29Speaker 1: in the German translation, she's called a prostitute, I think. Okay.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So this setup that she's got going on is Kimura
- 12:43Speaker 1: Saki has these clients and that she convinces can rescue
- 12:49Speaker 1: her from a marriage that she's being forced into by
- 12:56Speaker 1: some terrible dude, right? And if they can save enough
- 13:03Speaker 1: money and buy out the person that's purchasing her, they
- 13:12Speaker 1: can have her and keep her from that man's evil clutches.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And she also frames it as, and I'm really, I
- 13:22Speaker 1: am in love with you. So then if you do this,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I can be with my true love and we'll be
- 13:30Speaker 1: together forever. And Seraphim says, Toko is kind of a
- 13:37Speaker 1: personal assistant slash gopher. And Kimura Saki is a geisha,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but I forget the actual term, but it's, for basically
- 13:43Speaker 1: an extremely high end top of the top Gesha. She's,
- 13:48Speaker 1: she's Gesha premium, Gesha platinum. So Bernadette's here. Hi Bernadette.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So she sets these guys up and it's, it's, you know,
- 14:02Speaker 1: this is something that still goes on today where it's
- 14:05Speaker 1: a scam for, for lonely people, not just men. Women
- 14:10Speaker 1: gets like tricked by this as well. send me money and,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you know, because we've developed this relationship, I'll finally move
- 14:19Speaker 1: to the US to be with you. I just need
- 14:21Speaker 1: the money to get there. And they send all of
- 14:24Speaker 1: this money to this person that they have never met
- 14:27Speaker 1: and they never see them again or hear from them again.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And it's a really pernicious thing now with AI where
- 14:33Speaker 1: they can make very convincing video as well. And if
- 14:37Speaker 1: you're not good at spotting AI, which a lot of
- 14:42Speaker 1: folks aren't, and it depends on how good the rendering is,
- 14:47Speaker 1: they will really feel like, Oh yeah, that's a real person.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I've talked with them on video, you know? So these
- 14:55Speaker 1: dudes go and literally sell everything they have and abandoned
- 15:07Speaker 1: families sell their houses and And then they show up
- 15:12Speaker 1: to this place with the money and expect her to
- 15:20Speaker 1: fall weeping upon them with gratitude. And they get there
- 15:28Speaker 1: and she is indisposed, but they leave the money expecting
- 15:33Speaker 1: that like, now I press the button and now I
- 15:37Speaker 1: get you, right? And it doesn't, happen and then they
- 15:42Speaker 1: finally realize they've been had and now they're like destitute
- 15:49Speaker 1: seraphim says and gesha they do serve as prostitutes but
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's the it's closer to a courtesan where while sex
- 15:56Speaker 1: can be involved simply their company is worth the price
- 15:58Speaker 1: of hiring them for the esteem and how skilled they
- 16:00Speaker 1: are at being engaging company courtesan is the word that
- 16:04Speaker 1: i was trying thank you seraphim because i was like
- 16:07Speaker 1: i know that we have a word for this um
- 16:10Speaker 1: I would have kicked ass as a courtesan. But again,
- 16:14Speaker 1: my tolerance would have not been high once I get
- 16:17Speaker 1: to a certain age. But once you're at that age,
- 16:20Speaker 1: you can retire because you've made enough money if you
- 16:23Speaker 1: were good at it and nobody wants you anymore anyway.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So perfect. Bye. Okay. So these dudes, I look. Do
- 16:37Speaker 1: I think what she's doing is right? No. But she
- 16:51Speaker 1: didn't make these men do anything. They just wanted that
- 16:58Speaker 1: pussy so bad, they were willing to abandon their wives
- 17:04Speaker 1: and children. And, bro... If you're willing to do that,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I just can't feel bad for you. I feel bad
- 17:14Speaker 1: for your wife and kids because you probably took everything
- 17:17Speaker 1: from them. And so that sucks. But I can't, I just,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. That is a you problem. And this
- 17:30Speaker 1: is the thing, again, with like women weaponizing the things
- 17:34Speaker 1: that they are told are important about themselves. If being
- 17:39Speaker 1: beautiful is such an important thing that we achieve, why
- 17:42Speaker 1: can't we do what we want with it? And it's
- 17:49Speaker 1: not our fault that some men are so ruled by
- 17:55Speaker 1: their cocks that they can't see the fucking red flags
- 18:02Speaker 1: waving all around them. It's a you problem. That's it.
- 18:09Speaker 1: That's all there is to it. Now, the fact that
- 18:13Speaker 1: these guys are like, oh, I'm going to kill her
- 18:16Speaker 1: and that'll fix everything is also, this is such a
- 18:20Speaker 1: very dude response. You know, like, oh, I'll kill her
- 18:24Speaker 1: and that'll fix everything. What? Bruh. What this will do
- 18:29Speaker 1: is make you a murderer. That's what that will do.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And then you'll get sent to prison. Which I guess
- 18:35Speaker 1: if you've got nowhere to live and you aren't eating,
- 18:38Speaker 1: then maybe that's a come up for you. But if
- 18:42Speaker 1: you look at the labors that they're being forced to perform,
- 18:47Speaker 1: then I would say that's a step down. Anyway, she says,
- 18:55Speaker 1: what is it that she says? Men are nothing but
- 18:59Speaker 1: dogs that fetch me riches. Which is a bar. I just,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it's supposed to be like, what a, what an evil. No,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I can't. I'm just, I just, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Be hot and do crimes. Go ahead. I'm just, I
- 19:21Speaker 1: don't care. This is not the kind of thing. And
- 19:25Speaker 1: you know what? I often talk on this show about
- 19:29Speaker 1: how I listen slash watch the True Crime Show snapped
- 19:35Speaker 1: Women Who Kill. And the reason that's like the only
- 19:39Speaker 1: true crime that I consume is because I get very,
- 19:43Speaker 1: very tired of the countless rape and assault stories and
- 19:49Speaker 1: murder stories. of women and how the fucking investigation was
- 19:54Speaker 1: either basically not done or bungled. I would much rather
- 19:58Speaker 1: read about the more rare female murderer and the weirdness
- 20:05Speaker 1: surrounding what happened there. And If anybody thinks that this
- 20:12Speaker 1: is an exaggeration, this sort of a guy just giving
- 20:18Speaker 1: up absolutely everything, I urge you to listen to any
- 20:24Speaker 1: number of snapped episodes. These women, it varies. Sometimes they're
- 20:29Speaker 1: having an affair with the guy already. Sometimes they're refusing
- 20:32Speaker 1: to have an affair. And that's part of why the
- 20:35Speaker 1: guy is willing to do it because he thinks, oh,
- 20:38Speaker 1: then she'll finally be free and be with me. But, like,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I would go so far as to say 75% of
- 20:45Speaker 1: the murders on Snapped, the woman doesn't actually pull the trigger.
- 20:51Speaker 1: She comes up with the idea. She jacks up her
- 20:55Speaker 1: husband's life insurance policy. She sets the stage, but it
- 21:01Speaker 1: is a significant other waiting in the wings to take
- 21:05Speaker 1: her husband's place that is, like, either– staging a home
- 21:11Speaker 1: invasion or setting things up to maybe look like an accident.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It's wild to me. It's sort of a similar, it's,
- 21:23Speaker 1: what's the word I want? When a person hooks up
- 21:28Speaker 1: with somebody who is already married and that person leaves
- 21:33Speaker 1: their spouse to be with them and then that same
- 21:38Speaker 1: person ends up cheating on them too. Many, many folks
- 21:44Speaker 1: are going to just be like, yeah, that's, they are
- 21:47Speaker 1: a cheater. That's what they do. So why did you
- 21:51Speaker 1: think you were going to be different? Now, as somebody
- 21:55Speaker 1: raising my hand here who had cheated on my husband,
- 21:59Speaker 1: my first husband, emotional cheating, there was nothing physical, but nevertheless,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I would absolutely never cheat on Marshall. I just turned
- 22:09Speaker 1: a corner and that is just not in me anymore.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And I am just a totally different person now, but
- 22:17Speaker 1: not everybody like grows and interrogates themselves and why they
- 22:23Speaker 1: acted the way they acted. So I think in many
- 22:27Speaker 1: cases being like, they're a cheater. That's what they do.
- 22:29Speaker 1: That's why it happened to you too. That really rhymed.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I can understand why they feel this way. And, the
- 22:37Speaker 1: way that these dudes will step up to murder this
- 22:39Speaker 1: woman's husband. And it never occurs to them that she
- 22:44Speaker 1: might see them as disposable as she sees her husband.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Sometimes it's clearly, they actually really do have feelings for
- 22:54Speaker 1: each other. Sometimes it's that she was faking the whole
- 22:57Speaker 1: thing just to get him to do something. Sometimes it's
- 23:00Speaker 1: that she isn't real. And she created a catfish account
- 23:04Speaker 1: to get a guy to do something. But, she isn't
- 23:08Speaker 1: who she said, yada, yada. So what I'm saying is
- 23:14Speaker 1: when it comes to emotion, when it comes to sex,
- 23:21Speaker 1: men like to frame themselves a lot as the logical gender,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but when it comes to this stuff, they are just
- 23:28Speaker 1: as driven by the most illogical motivations as women ever are. And,
- 23:37Speaker 1: they will ruin their own lives for the sake of
- 23:43Speaker 1: just some lady. That's it. You know, this is so real.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's so real. And what I am so, what irritates
- 23:58Speaker 1: me about snapped a lot is that the woman being
- 24:04Speaker 1: the like, quote brains of the operation is, despite the
- 24:07Speaker 1: fact that she didn't pull the trigger and that they
- 24:11Speaker 1: really only have circumstantial evidence against her. A lot of
- 24:13Speaker 1: the time she'll serve a longer sentence than the man
- 24:17Speaker 1: who actually committed the murder, because we have a special
- 24:22Speaker 1: hatred in our hearts for women who manipulate, despite the
- 24:29Speaker 1: fact that it's by no means are women, the only
- 24:34Speaker 1: manipulators it's, We just tend to sentence them more harshly
- 24:40Speaker 1: and we are more willing to declare them guilty than
- 24:46Speaker 1: a man with the same circumstantial evidence. And this has
- 24:50Speaker 1: been proven like time and time again. So, yeah, I'm
- 24:55Speaker 1: not saying that these ladies did nothing wrong. I am
- 24:58Speaker 1: simply saying if we are actually going to be rational
- 25:01Speaker 1: and look at the evidence, you don't really have a lot.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And this guy should be doing a lot more hard
- 25:05Speaker 1: time than she is. And somehow that's not what happens
- 25:08Speaker 1: because we just don't like women period as a society,
- 25:15Speaker 1: but we especially don't like when they use their wiles
- 25:20Speaker 1: to like profit themselves, whether it be simply the wiles, fraud, scams, murder, whatever. Um,
- 25:31Speaker 1: Sarah Fim says, preach. If she's just going after assholes
- 25:34Speaker 1: who are stupid enough to bankrupt themselves just for the
- 25:36Speaker 1: possibility of touching boobs, go right ahead and teach them
- 25:40Speaker 1: a lesson. We only have enough blood for one head
- 25:45Speaker 1: to think at a time. You know, it's a, it's
- 25:49Speaker 1: a real weird, it's a real weird thing to me
- 25:54Speaker 1: that men have ever been able to claim being the
- 25:57Speaker 1: more logical gender. It's just weird. there's no evidence whatsoever.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's just not there. The very claim is in and
- 26:07Speaker 1: of itself illogical. So I just, yeah, wild behavior. So anyway,
- 26:16Speaker 1: this is her episode, pair of episodes, Kimura Saki. She
- 26:24Speaker 1: is being dropped into the mix here in a way
- 26:28Speaker 1: that is so interesting because we're hearing her name. We're
- 26:33Speaker 1: hearing that there's going to be like this procession. We
- 26:37Speaker 1: see only her lips a lot of the time until
- 26:42Speaker 1: there's like flashbacks. And even in the flashbacks, her face
- 26:46Speaker 1: is often like shadowed or her hands are over her face.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And it's a really strange kind of like we have
- 26:56Speaker 1: to keep secret what, like what she looks like. And honestly,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I wouldn't be mad if this just kept going like that.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And we never really saw her face so that it
- 27:09Speaker 1: was like, I'm not going to show you a face
- 27:14Speaker 1: that you can be subjective about whether or not you think,
- 27:17Speaker 1: although we all know that she's going to have the
- 27:19Speaker 1: exact same face as Robin and Nami and every woman,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but yeah, I like the idea of let's keep her
- 27:28Speaker 1: shadowed a bit so that you can imagine a face
- 27:32Speaker 1: that suits, you know? And the, the fact that Toko
- 27:41Speaker 1: is like helping her out is a really odd dynamic.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And she's like quite kind to Toko. Toko comes running
- 27:54Speaker 1: up and I forgot what it is that she's like
- 27:56Speaker 1: bringing with her because she's carrying something. But she says,
- 27:59Speaker 1: I'm so sorry that I'm late. And the, sorry, I
- 28:07Speaker 1: keep forgetting her name, Komurasaki. Komurasaki says something like, I
- 28:13Speaker 1: was beginning to worry about you. Let's get to work.
- 28:17Speaker 1: And is really like, it seems concerned for Toko's wellbeing
- 28:24Speaker 1: and is not yelling at her or demanding or anything.
- 28:31Speaker 1: And everybody on the street is purely here to see
- 28:36Speaker 1: her beautiful face. And that's like it. She's so gorgeous
- 28:42Speaker 1: and so glamorous that it's like kind of fascinating to
- 28:50Speaker 1: when you think about the fact that like the way
- 28:54Speaker 1: that we behave a lot towards women who utilize their
- 28:58Speaker 1: looks to get things, she faces remarkably little hate on
- 29:03Speaker 1: the street, except from the men that she swindled. And
- 29:07Speaker 1: it really does appear that everybody who sees her is
- 29:11Speaker 1: like under her spell somehow, despite the fact that like,
- 29:16Speaker 1: there would probably be some detractors in the mix, you know?
- 29:21Speaker 1: So that is sort of compelling to me. The fact
- 29:25Speaker 1: that like nobody appears to be jealous. There's no haters
- 29:32Speaker 1: for the sake of hating, which if you just go
- 29:35Speaker 1: on any hot woman's Instagram comments, like you would know
- 29:38Speaker 1: that's a thing, but, fucking everywhere so i'm wondering if
- 29:44Speaker 1: we are going to eventually see that because for now
- 29:46Speaker 1: it's just a straight up fan club once again aside
- 29:50Speaker 1: from the men that she swindled and uh i am
- 29:55Speaker 1: so curious like how much money in total she has
- 29:58Speaker 1: stolen I don't think we'll ever get any number because
- 30:02Speaker 1: that's not something that really gets bandied about like numbers.
- 30:06Speaker 1: The only time we really hear are when it's for
- 30:10Speaker 1: the plot that we have like a certain bounty on
- 30:13Speaker 1: one of the straw hats heads, or we need X
- 30:15Speaker 1: amount to fix the ship or whatever. But the flashback
- 30:22Speaker 1: that we see with that one old man who's missing
- 30:24Speaker 1: a bunch of teeth is like, he shows up after
- 30:28Speaker 1: dropping off all the money he has. And she says,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I spent it already. And this guy is obviously not
- 30:33Speaker 1: wealthy in the first place. So if he gave her
- 30:36Speaker 1: everything he has, that is not to say it was
- 30:39Speaker 1: a lot of money. It was all his money, but
- 30:42Speaker 1: relatively speaking, that may not be a lot of money.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And it is really, really difficult to like fully wrap
- 30:53Speaker 1: your head around the difference being in, in being somebody
- 30:57Speaker 1: who is wealthy versus not because like the proportion, like
- 31:04Speaker 1: for example, and this is an old reference I'm making.
- 31:08Speaker 1: So this is probably an even more extreme number at
- 31:12Speaker 1: this point, but in the show gossip girl, the whole
- 31:18Speaker 1: show is centered around this private high school in New
- 31:22Speaker 1: York city and And there are kids who are there
- 31:26Speaker 1: on scholarship whose families don't have any money. And then
- 31:29Speaker 1: there are kids whose parents pay their tuition and they
- 31:32Speaker 1: have more money than I could even guess at. And
- 31:37Speaker 1: one of the poor kids is being bribed to do something.
- 31:43Speaker 1: And she kind of is resisting the bribe. And the
- 31:46Speaker 1: guy says, listen, I'm offering you $ 24, 000. And you know,
- 31:54Speaker 1: to her, that's like a couple pairs of shoes and
- 32:00Speaker 1: a Chanel bag. But to you, that's life-changing money. Take
- 32:06Speaker 1: the money. And that quote stuck with me so much.
- 32:12Speaker 1: The thought that like, yeah, that is life-changing money. And
- 32:16Speaker 1: these people still won't part with it for taxes just
- 32:20Speaker 1: to help people who are like, broken sick or need help,
- 32:25Speaker 1: you know, like it's nothing to you. It's nothing to you.
- 32:30Speaker 1: And that would change my life utterly. I can't even
- 32:35Speaker 1: tell you. So all this to say, when you've, when
- 32:41Speaker 1: you are somebody who doesn't have a lot of money,
- 32:44Speaker 1: it's like, I just gave you $ 24, 000. That's everything I had.
- 32:50Speaker 1: That's such a lot of money. And evidently this bitch
- 32:54Speaker 1: has got men on the run all the time. So
- 32:58Speaker 1: that's a couple pairs of shoes and a Chanel bag
- 33:00Speaker 1: to her. And she's, it's gone. And he shows up
- 33:04Speaker 1: wanting it back. And she's just like, girl, I went shopping.
- 33:08Speaker 1: What are you here for? I'm not, you can't have
- 33:11Speaker 1: my shoes. I'll tell you that much. Scoot. Get out
- 33:17Speaker 1: of here. Scram. Bernadette says, I think if you have
- 33:22Speaker 1: Kaido to hate, why would you have some left for
- 33:24Speaker 1: a pretty girl? The people are probably glad about a
- 33:27Speaker 1: bit of celebrity distraction. You know, Bernadette, I want to
- 33:32Speaker 1: agree with you. But once again, we have a Trump
- 33:35Speaker 1: in the world. And yet you still be seeing people
- 33:37Speaker 1: in these Instagram comments. Like people always have time to
- 33:42Speaker 1: be haters. They always have time, especially to hate on women.
- 33:47Speaker 1: It's just a fucking, they always are ready to make time.
- 33:51Speaker 1: It's crazy. That's another type of scam that's happening, to
- 33:56Speaker 1: be honest, is now that we have social media and
- 33:59Speaker 1: people can get paid for engagement, you could just bait
- 34:04Speaker 1: angry dudes and have them just leaving tons of comments.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And every single one of those comments is like another
- 34:13Speaker 1: dollar in their pocket. And these dudes really think they're like,
- 34:17Speaker 1: taking down a page. You are making her rich. You
- 34:21Speaker 1: don't even get it. You aren't even playing the same game, dude.
- 34:26Speaker 1: You know? Seraphim says, I don't think most of Wano's
- 34:31Speaker 1: citizens even know about Kaido. Orochi is the only, is
- 34:35Speaker 1: the one visibly in charge. But yeah, Wano does not
- 34:38Speaker 1: seem to have a lot of either bread or circuses
- 34:41Speaker 1: to distract them. That's an interesting, hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Because
- 34:48Speaker 1: we have Robin, who is also a gash. She's booked
- 34:53Speaker 1: by wealthy clients. This is not like a troupe that
- 34:56Speaker 1: performs on the street or anything like that. Yeah, that's
- 35:02Speaker 1: a flaw in the plan here. Somebody should be doing
- 35:05Speaker 1: a little bit of circus stuff. Evidently, in this community,
- 35:10Speaker 1: we're pretty much set. But in a few others, probably
- 35:13Speaker 1: we could up the participation there a little bit. Um, anyway, okay.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I'm sorry, guys. I know I've spent so much time
- 35:21Speaker 1: talking about her, but I just find her a really,
- 35:24Speaker 1: really compelling character. And I am super excited to see
- 35:30Speaker 1: what more we get from her. And I'm also curious,
- 35:33Speaker 1: like how long she's going to be in the mix.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And I hope that I'm not supposed to like be
- 35:39Speaker 1: happy for her takedown eventually, because I won't, I can't,
- 35:43Speaker 1: I can't, Perhaps there will be additional things I learn
- 35:46Speaker 1: about her that will change my mind on that. And
- 35:48Speaker 1: eventually I'll get there and be like, okay, you know what? No,
- 35:51Speaker 1: this bitch has got to be taken out. But from
- 35:54Speaker 1: where I'm at right now, I can't be excited about that.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I just want her to continue to succeed. And, and,
- 36:04Speaker 1: you know, it's bleed them dry, bleed them dry. So,
- 36:14Speaker 1: I'm going to get back into like the plot of
- 36:16Speaker 1: things because episode 920, we've got, I am honestly surprised
- 36:22Speaker 1: at how long this is allowed to go on. But
- 36:26Speaker 1: Sanji is still making these noodles for this crowd of
- 36:30Speaker 1: women and is being reminded by many people that, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 1: we're supposed to be getting samurai that we can recruit.
- 36:43Speaker 1: And you should probably be making something different. The way
- 36:48Speaker 1: that it's set up is really strange, though. And this
- 36:51Speaker 1: is probably the kind of thing that, like, culturally is understood.
- 36:55Speaker 1: But I don't know this. So, you know, in the
- 36:59Speaker 1: United States, there is just the assumption that men drink
- 37:04Speaker 1: beer and whiskey and women drink Cosmos and Appletinis. women
- 37:10Speaker 1: like sweet fruity drinks and men like to drink green
- 37:15Speaker 1: alcohol because it hurts and we like it so here
- 37:21Speaker 1: we've got women love noodles and men don't i what
- 37:26Speaker 1: frankie says is like you should make it spicier so
- 37:31Speaker 1: that samurai can like wash it down with sake or
- 37:35Speaker 1: something which um The idea of using alcohol to cool
- 37:43Speaker 1: your mouth because of spicy food is unthinkable to me personally.
- 37:49Speaker 1: That would have to make it worse, I would think.
- 37:52Speaker 1: But when he says this, Sanji does not contradict him.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And the show does have it that it's only women
- 38:03Speaker 1: that are being drawn to his booth where he's making
- 38:06Speaker 1: these noodles. there's no men eating other than the straw
- 38:10Speaker 1: hats that are men. Like, otherwise it is all and
- 38:15Speaker 1: only women. And I don't really understand how this is
- 38:18Speaker 1: like what the, the masculinity requirement for food is here.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Is it supposed to be just straight up meat and
- 38:31Speaker 1: only women like carbohydrates or something? Or I don't know.
- 38:34Speaker 1: But anyway, I, we have some dudes that show up
- 38:40Speaker 1: here and it is, it is a group that is
- 38:47Speaker 1: doing that. Like it would, what nice business you got here.
- 38:51Speaker 1: It would be a shame if something happened to it.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Maybe if you give us a percentage of your profits,
- 38:58Speaker 1: it won't happen. You'll, you'll pay us to protect you
- 39:02Speaker 1: from ourselves because, Seraphim says, I think that's more of
- 39:06Speaker 1: Frankie thing of him just liking spicy stuff. The women
- 39:08Speaker 1: thing I took as more Sanji being Sanji and attracting
- 39:11Speaker 1: them through the attention he gives them. Huh? I mean,
- 39:16Speaker 1: I could see that Seraphim, if only we don't see
- 39:19Speaker 1: how long that line is, because it really seems like
- 39:22Speaker 1: there's a hundred women and they can't all be even
- 39:26Speaker 1: aware of the attention that he gives them. But on
- 39:29Speaker 1: the other hand, it's one piece, so what do I know?
- 39:35Speaker 1: Either way, these dudes show up, and you know, we
- 39:39Speaker 1: have the other funny thing that they're twice as tall
- 39:45Speaker 1: as anybody else, and They demand money and Sanji is
- 39:51Speaker 1: just like, for what? And they're like, you know, to
- 39:54Speaker 1: keep you safe. And he's like, oh, well, I don't
- 39:57Speaker 1: need any help with that. I can do that myself.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And we have, as this conversation is happening, the first
- 40:11Speaker 1: person in line is Toko. who turns and looks up
- 40:16Speaker 1: at these guys with that same weird fixed expression that
- 40:20Speaker 1: she always has. It is just so fucking unnerving. I
- 40:26Speaker 1: don't like her. Even when she's being bullied, I can't
- 40:32Speaker 1: help but still be kind of like, yeah, I don't know.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Bully her, I guess. So these dudes decide that they're
- 40:41Speaker 1: going to mess with her and her food and don't
- 40:48Speaker 1: understand who Sanji is or the reaction that he is
- 40:53Speaker 1: going to have. This is something that actually came up
- 40:57Speaker 1: when I was recording Dresden Files with Rashawn yesterday, where
- 41:02Speaker 1: somebody decides to come up against Harry Dresden. And Rashawn
- 41:06Speaker 1: is like, so here's the thing that I'm confused by.
- 41:09Speaker 1: They have to know who he is. they really think
- 41:15Speaker 1: they're going to win this. And here, they obviously don't
- 41:19Speaker 1: know who Sanji is, but it does sort of feel
- 41:21Speaker 1: like y'all really need to pay more attention. And I
- 41:27Speaker 1: think it's just Wano is so isolated. They don't really
- 41:30Speaker 1: get the news. I think that they truly are completely
- 41:33Speaker 1: in the dark about the Straw Hats and about Luffy. Like,
- 41:37Speaker 1: if this were a different circumstance, there have been times
- 41:40Speaker 1: where I'm just like, how does nobody know that just
- 41:43Speaker 1: because Luffy looks like a goofball, there's a fucking reason
- 41:46Speaker 1: why his bounty is so high. And here it does
- 41:50Speaker 1: seem like there is a reasonable excuse. So they knock
- 41:56Speaker 1: the bowl out of her hands and we have that
- 41:59Speaker 1: weird where she's still like smiling, but she's also crying.
- 42:04Speaker 1: There's like tears in her eyes and, But she's still
- 42:08Speaker 1: got like a big smile on her face. And the
- 42:11Speaker 1: way that she's crying sounds like laughter. So I just don't,
- 42:20Speaker 1: I don't even know. What on earth is going on
- 42:22Speaker 1: with this girl? So the terrorists, I don't know what
- 42:29Speaker 1: to call this gang. But they make their point by
- 42:34Speaker 1: bullying this girl. they tell all of the women who
- 42:38Speaker 1: are like in line or who are already eating to
- 42:42Speaker 1: get lost. And the stall is closed. And then we
- 42:47Speaker 1: have Sanji just standing there, having watched them knock this
- 42:52Speaker 1: food down onto the ground and waste it. And also
- 42:56Speaker 1: had them hurt a little girl, not physically necessarily, but
- 43:01Speaker 1: you know, and also, and I have to assume that
- 43:05Speaker 1: this is, even more egregious to him in some ways,
- 43:09Speaker 1: drive away all of the women who were around. So
- 43:15Speaker 1: he walks up to this dude and is like, I
- 43:18Speaker 1: need you to finish all your food. And Guy is like,
- 43:22Speaker 1: are you really picking a fight right now? Which, when
- 43:25Speaker 1: they are standing beside Sanji, he looks like he's only
- 43:31Speaker 1: two-thirds the size of them. They are significantly bigger. But
- 43:35Speaker 1: they don't seem to understand that size isn't everything. So
- 43:39Speaker 1: they attempt to jump him three to one and they
- 43:42Speaker 1: just get trounced so instantly. It's like really embarrassing. Actually,
- 43:47Speaker 1: I have to admit too. I love that on the sidelines,
- 43:51Speaker 1: we've got like Usopp telling Sanji, Hey buddy, calm down.
- 43:58Speaker 1: But then when the, when it's clear that we're about
- 44:00Speaker 1: to have a fight, Frankie is like, Yeah, let's do this.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Frankie is clearly itching for a fight. And I have
- 44:12Speaker 1: to imagine being undercover in a place where there is
- 44:15Speaker 1: so much corruption and so many of these assholes taking
- 44:20Speaker 1: advantage of innocent people that not being able to lean
- 44:24Speaker 1: into your actual nature and defend them is probably really
- 44:28Speaker 1: frustrating and builds up over time so that you're ready
- 44:33Speaker 1: to blow your top. So, yeah, Sanji gets noticed here
- 44:41Speaker 1: because everybody is like, he's just a cook. Why is
- 44:44Speaker 1: he strong enough to just do this? Meanwhile, Frankie is
- 44:51Speaker 1: soaring up into the air with the guy with green
- 44:54Speaker 1: hair and body slamming him into the ground. And I
- 45:00Speaker 1: want to say how much I have missed Frankie. And
- 45:03Speaker 1: this moment with all of them just made me go, yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 1: I'm really glad you're back. I want you to have
- 45:09Speaker 1: more screen time. We're not seeing enough of you, to
- 45:12Speaker 1: be honest, you know. So these dudes all work for
- 45:20Speaker 1: the guy that Robin was performing for that we saw
- 45:25Speaker 1: probably like a dozen episodes ago at this point. He
- 45:28Speaker 1: was telling the story about what happened to caused the
- 45:32Speaker 1: like superstition about the ghosts on that hilltop where the
- 45:37Speaker 1: gravestones are. And I can't remember his name, but they
- 45:42Speaker 1: essentially go running back to him. And he tells them,
- 45:48Speaker 1: you have got to like go out there and kill
- 45:51Speaker 1: one of them. And his underling says, that's going to
- 45:56Speaker 1: cause an uproar though. And he just says, so, What's
- 46:02Speaker 1: your point? So this is a dude who I was
- 46:08Speaker 1: thinking that he was just like a trust fund kid,
- 46:13Speaker 1: but evidently he's the head of a bit of organized crime,
- 46:19Speaker 1: like an arm of it. He doesn't seem like he's
- 46:22Speaker 1: really in charge, like in a serious way. It's just
- 46:28Speaker 1: he's on a petty level, a petty thug, I guess
- 46:31Speaker 1: is what you would call him. Sorry, Seraphim says, with Sanji,
- 46:37Speaker 1: the rage order would be hitting a woman, then wasting food,
- 46:41Speaker 1: then cock blocking. He's a horned dog, but he does
- 46:45Speaker 1: have his principles. Napping Kyoshiro. He's pretty much the mob
- 46:54Speaker 1: boss of the city. His name is Napping? Is that...
- 47:00Speaker 1: It's in... quotation marks. So I'm not sure if that's like,
- 47:05Speaker 1: is that his, what Kyoshiro means in English? I don't,
- 47:11Speaker 1: if I, I don't know that I can like call
- 47:14Speaker 1: a person napping as their name. That just, Seraphim says
- 47:22Speaker 1: it's his nickname because he's always falling asleep. I feel
- 47:29Speaker 1: like He seems to have narcolepsy. That's what Seraphim says.
- 47:32Speaker 1: All right. Napping. I feel like I just want to
- 47:36Speaker 1: call him Sleepy then, like one of the seven dwarves.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Napping just isn't– I feel like it's going to be confusing,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but probably saying Sleepy is also confusing. But Sleepy is
- 47:49Speaker 1: just more understood as a name because of the seven dwarves. So, yeah. Okay.
- 47:56Speaker 1: We're going to go with Sleepy. But long story short,
- 48:03Speaker 1: this guy does not appreciate these folks like stepping up
- 48:09Speaker 1: and ruining his moment of intimidation that he had set up.
- 48:16Speaker 1: And they are, he is going to punish everybody. It
- 48:22Speaker 1: feels like in response to this, um, at this point
- 48:26Speaker 1: Sanji has made a new bowl of soup and noodles
- 48:31Speaker 1: for Toko and she eats it. And then it's suddenly like, Hey,
- 48:39Speaker 1: I just realized I'm super late for work. The oil
- 48:42Speaker 1: run is going to be in a procession. And that
- 48:46Speaker 1: word is used a number of times. So I guess Seraphim,
- 48:50Speaker 1: that's the word that you were saying is for like
- 48:53Speaker 1: Gesha platinum. Uh, And I think it's Sanji who uses
- 48:59Speaker 1: another title. I'm sorry. There's just a moment. Oh, yeah.
- 49:03Speaker 1: He says, Oiran, Toko, are you a Komuro by any chance?
- 49:09Speaker 1: What is that? Komuro. Maybe that's like the official title
- 49:15Speaker 1: for somebody who works for an Oiran. Like, yeah. an understudy.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Understudy isn't the right word. I said apprentice before, but
- 49:24Speaker 1: that's also not quite the word I want. Protégé. Protégé
- 49:30Speaker 1: is the word I was looking for, but I'm not
- 49:32Speaker 1: sure that's correct either. really curious because like Frankie does not,
- 49:46Speaker 1: he doesn't know what these words mean. He says, but
- 49:52Speaker 1: what are those? And this lady just swoops in with
- 49:56Speaker 1: her stringed instrument. There's a very rude comment from Usopp
- 50:02Speaker 1: about how it's a wrinkled paper lantern that's come to life.
- 50:08Speaker 1: And then she's like, How do you guys not know
- 50:11Speaker 1: about our Oiran? She's a superstar. There's only one in
- 50:16Speaker 1: all of Wano. This legend's name is Komurosaki, a role
- 50:21Speaker 1: model for women longed for by men, a beauty that
- 50:25Speaker 1: could upturn the whole country. And she's a woman envied
- 50:32Speaker 1: by heaven itself, both pure and noble. That's Komurosaki. Frankie
- 50:40Speaker 1: claims a woman like that does not exist. And she's
- 50:42Speaker 1: just like, Oh, you'll see. You'll see. You'll all see.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And we don't actually like, I'm worried about the money
- 50:54Speaker 1: of the straw hats because Sanji in this mix, that's
- 50:59Speaker 1: going to Sanji. If there is ever a man that
- 51:04Speaker 1: would give up absolutely everything for a woman, I mean,
- 51:09Speaker 1: you don't, I don't like the use of the word
- 51:16Speaker 1: simp normally. But every now and then there is just
- 51:23Speaker 1: somebody who really is. And he is a simp. Absolutely.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I mean, no question. So she's going to be making
- 51:33Speaker 1: an appearance at the Shogun's Banquet. she's a child attendant
- 51:39Speaker 1: who goes with the Oiran. And straight from Flower Capital,
- 51:46Speaker 1: no less, I have news for you to Orobi. I
- 51:51Speaker 1: think that's Robin's name. You've been summoned to the castle
- 51:55Speaker 1: for the banquet today. Wasn't that your dream to meet
- 51:58Speaker 1: Shogun Orochi in person? So it's happening, which is pretty exciting. Okay.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I'm really worried that maybe she's been made and that
- 52:08Speaker 1: this is a trap, but it doesn't seem like she
- 52:11Speaker 1: has been. It really doesn't appear that anybody knows who
- 52:16Speaker 1: our guys are at all yet. I'm surprised that like
- 52:20Speaker 1: Luffy's presence hasn't caused them to wonder about the rest
- 52:25Speaker 1: of the straw hats. But again, I don't know how
- 52:27Speaker 1: much info anybody in Wano has. So I don't know if,
- 52:33Speaker 1: his situation is, and the fact that he has an
- 52:38Speaker 1: entire crew is even something that they, he's just been
- 52:43Speaker 1: out in the mix for such a long time. I
- 52:44Speaker 1: would have thought some of the news would come back
- 52:46Speaker 1: to them, but, oh, Seraphim and Lena are pointing out
- 52:51Speaker 1: that Nami is the one in charge of the money.
- 52:53Speaker 1: So he won't get a chance Sanji to like blow
- 52:57Speaker 1: it all, which is good. So then we go to
- 53:01Speaker 1: the prison briefly, and this is so weird. So Usopp is, Usopp,
- 53:07Speaker 1: my God, Luffy is being really unfriendly. These dudes are
- 53:13Speaker 1: like talking to him about how strong he is. And,
- 53:20Speaker 1: you know, you really like stood up to them. And
- 53:24Speaker 1: that was the first time that we've had fun in
- 53:26Speaker 1: here in ages. And Luffy just tells them to leave
- 53:31Speaker 1: him alone. And then he pulls out, when this old
- 53:37Speaker 1: man comes up to him, a handful of these tickets
- 53:42Speaker 1: to get some of those millet dumplings. So this makes
- 53:46Speaker 1: up for the previous, because you guys know that I
- 53:49Speaker 1: was sort of like, hey, buddy, how about you share
- 53:51Speaker 1: some of that? He does. It just, he has to
- 53:55Speaker 1: get full before he's willing to do that, which I
- 53:59Speaker 1: do have to respect. I can see that. It's a,
- 54:02Speaker 1: you know, put your own oxygen mask on first sort
- 54:05Speaker 1: of situation. So he's super friendly to this dude and
- 54:09Speaker 1: he hands over all of these tickets and is smiling.
- 54:15Speaker 1: But when it's just those guys talking to him, he
- 54:19Speaker 1: acts hostile as if they're bothering him or like bad guys.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I don't know. Um, Anyway, so he's out here when
- 54:32Speaker 1: Rizo shows up and explains, I've found the key to
- 54:37Speaker 1: your handcuffs, but it is under tight security. It's guarded,
- 54:43Speaker 1: first of all, and it's in a sea prism stone box,
- 54:47Speaker 1: which I can't open. So, you know, it's difficult. Uh,
- 54:54Speaker 1: I vow to steal it all the same. Just give
- 54:57Speaker 1: me time. And Luffy says, okay, no problem. He disappears.
- 55:05Speaker 2: And I.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Got to say, guys, we find out a little bit
- 55:14Speaker 1: later that wet-haired caribou is here. And when I tell
- 55:20Speaker 1: you all, I never wanted to see this motherfucker's face again.
- 55:25Speaker 1: I am so bummed out. I don't know. No, do
- 55:31Speaker 1: you hear me? I don't want this. Nobody wanted this.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I just come on. So I mentioned the cover story
- 55:42Speaker 1: that Florian sent me on discord, which is called caribou's
- 55:51Speaker 1: in the new world. And it really is pretty much
- 55:57Speaker 1: just the story of how Jinbei completely ruins Caribou's life,
- 56:06Speaker 1: which I don't have a lot of time for Jinbei,
- 56:12Speaker 1: but I will say the fact that he is the
- 56:15Speaker 1: one that puts Caribou away earns him a great deal
- 56:20Speaker 1: of credit from me. Because this guy just really fucking sucks.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I'm trying to find, he's like, in that barrel, there's
- 56:32Speaker 1: a whole thing. He winds up like washing up somewhere.
- 56:36Speaker 1: And these guys who find him know that he is
- 56:40Speaker 1: wanted and that there's a reward for him. And then
- 56:45Speaker 1: we have this woman show up. yuki ana of the
- 56:54Speaker 1: biscuit room she is interesting um a very very large
- 57:04Speaker 1: woman in every sense she's fat she's tall she has
- 57:09Speaker 1: green hair i think it's a she i feel like
- 57:14Speaker 1: there's a uh The way that she's drawn is so
- 57:20Speaker 1: extreme because she's in the middle of a movement that
- 57:24Speaker 1: it's not even quite clear to me. I think it is,
- 57:30Speaker 1: but I don't know. So let's see. Let's see. It's
- 57:39Speaker 1: a volume 11. I'm trying to find the moment where Oh, right.
- 57:43Speaker 1: This is the part where I was like, because Caribou escapes.
- 57:46Speaker 1: He's about to be burned at the stake. And I'm
- 57:49Speaker 1: not entirely sure why burning him at the stake was
- 57:54Speaker 1: going to be the play here. Is it supposed to
- 58:00Speaker 1: be that he's caught by the Marines? Because I didn't
- 58:06Speaker 1: know burning at the stake was an execution method that
- 58:08Speaker 1: they would utilize. So You know, and her jumping in,
- 58:18Speaker 1: it's like she's trying to rescue him, but he escapes
- 58:24Speaker 1: and she is left there. So is she like one
- 58:28Speaker 1: of his Confederates that he just abandons? Is that what
- 58:31Speaker 1: I meant to understand? I just, this was some of
- 58:36Speaker 1: these cover stories. even if they're really weird, I can
- 58:42Speaker 1: mostly follow it. And I can understand that it's just
- 58:44Speaker 1: a weird story, but this was the first one that
- 58:47Speaker 1: I really didn't get what was going on in a
- 58:49Speaker 1: few of the panels. And I was feeling sort of mystified.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Cause like, so the ship takes, takes off caribou escapes,
- 58:59Speaker 1: but then we see like the ship torn up in
- 59:01Speaker 1: a storm and him on a boat and escaping. He
- 59:06Speaker 1: is washed up, almost starved to death. on an island
- 59:11Speaker 1: that is covered with snow and is nursed back to
- 59:17Speaker 1: health by an old hag whom once he is well,
- 59:26Speaker 1: he decides that he is going to steal from. It's
- 59:33Speaker 1: she's sitting by his bed and yet he is behind
- 59:39Speaker 1: her taking her jewels and her food. Now I'll be
- 59:44Speaker 1: honest kids. I don't remember what his power is. It's
- 59:49Speaker 1: like he can like ooze into things and turn himself
- 59:53Speaker 1: into a liquid. Right. So is it supposed to be
- 59:57Speaker 1: that he oozes out of the bed sheets, but she
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: doesn't notice? I don't, I don't get because like what
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: it looks like to me is that there's a halo
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: around them indicating that there's like magic happening or something
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and he's stealing and there's a sort of energy to
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: it of like, I'm being really sneaky and, But then
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: in the next frame, he's being directed by this old
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: lady and he's got like a little box that says
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: meat pies on it. And so I thought it was
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: going to be thanks for nursing me back to health.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I'm taking all your shit and I'm leaving. But then
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: he doesn't just leave. It seems like he got caught
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: maybe or I don't know. And. he goes out and
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: is like bringing this little package to these dudes that
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: she was telling. Like, it seems like she was directing
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: him to, but I'm not clear who these guys are
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: that he runs into. If there's one of them, it
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: says on the way to the Harbor, a voice calls
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: out commander Gaburu, which do they know who he is?
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Or is this the name of the old lady? And
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: she like completely beats the shit out of them. And
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: then waves to him as he takes off. But there
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: are more of these soldiers like in town that he's
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: hiding from. I feel like I'm, there's just big chunks
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: of this where there are panels missing. And I don't
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: think that that's true. I think maybe there's just like
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: context that perhaps folks are getting from other parts of
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the story that help more than, they might realize if
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: you don't have that context. Seraphim says the Marines did
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: note him for who he was. It's just that they
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: are G5 Marines that Smoker was in charge of who
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: are noted as being a bunch of thuggish assholes who
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: abused the fuck out of their power. So burning just
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: felt like fun. The one who saved him wasn't a woman,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: but his brother who we saw when they first met him,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: but they got separated. Oh, I do not remember that
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: at all. Hmm. Okay. His power is the swamp swamp fruit.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: The island with the old lady is where he's mistaken
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: for the revolutionary rebel who is the old lady's grandkid. Seraphim,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: you're saying the island with the old lady is where
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: he's mistaken for the rebel who's the old lady's grandkid.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I don't remember this at all. Is this a story
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: that he like told to us at some point? because
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the way that you phrased that, it's like, you're going
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: pointing at this, like, yeah, remember that story we heard?
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: This is where that happened, but that is not ringing
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: any bells for me at all whatsoever. So it like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I can't emphasize enough how much I did not understand
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: that this was what was happening. Um, And then we
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: like the next scene is. Because the island, it's like
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: the island where they're, they have the sad factory and
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: we see a bunch of workers and it's like, he
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: inspires them to unionize because there's a sort of Che
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Guevara looking flag that is being waved around. And I, okay.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: So that, The fact that he's being mistaken for this
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: guy makes Captain Gaburu has returned to us make more sense. Okay. No,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: it's during the arc. The whole thing with them shouting
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: commander was them mistaking him for that guy. Okay. I
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: really wish that there was something in the moment when
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: he is rescued to indicate that he looks like this
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: other dude. I don't know if there was something that
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: is in that frame that I was supposed to have
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: picked up on when he is rescued. But it just
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: cuts from him landing on the island almost like starved
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: to death to him being nursed by this old lady.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: And there's nothing to it. Like, there's no moment of
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: her embracing or a photo that she has of somebody
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: who looks a lot like him to, to indicate that
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: she thinks he's somebody specific. So that just, that did
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: not come through at all. And thus made a lot
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: of the other stuff really confusing. I I'm looking at
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: the time and I'm really sorry guys, because I am
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: out of time. I have another recording and I really
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: do have to go and I'm over time for this anyway.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: So I'm going to come back to this story, but
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I just, maybe if I reread it with that context
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: and now I know this, it will help. I don't
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: know if it will matter that much though, because there were,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: there was more than one spot where I was sort
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: of like, wait, what's happening now? It felt like I
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: kind of got a grasp of it and then I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: lost it again. But, Seraphim says really the main takeaway
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: for the cover story is this is why Caribou is
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: in Wano. Okay. With him running into X Drake at
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the end. Okay. All right. Well, nevertheless, I am going
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: to want to return to this next time. And I'm
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: probably Florian being the one who sent it to me
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: since he's not here today. I'll give him a chance
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: as well, but it's just very funny how some of
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: these have been clear stories and have worked really well
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: for me. And I don't know, maybe it's just the
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: fact that I hate wet hair caribou so much and
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: did not want to see him ever again. And so
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: my brain just low key shut down when he turned
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: up again, because it was like, no, I don't want
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: to waste any of my power deciphering any of this,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: which is certainly a possibility. All right. I'm going to wrap.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Thank you again so much to you guys for hanging
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: out for your patience when I had to restart. Thank
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: you to Seraphim for commissioning this one, asterisk. And until
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: next time, toodaloo, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast.
