- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning. Hurricane Lala has moved out and trade winds are back. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:39Windward and mountain areas are seeing light to moderate showers this morning and tonight — visibility on roads like the Hāna Highway will be reduced through Friday. If you're on the leeward side, you're mostly clear today. Wednesday through Friday, the winds ease and showers could spread to normally dry areas. The weekend picks up trade winds again and showers taper off.
- 1:58Oʻahu's south shore is moderate at 4.2 feet with shore break and rip currents — watch for rough conditions at less protected beaches. The north shore is smaller at 3.7 feet, comfortable for swimmers. Kauaʻi's hitting moderate at 4.6 feet. Maui and the Big Island are calmer, with Kāʻanapali at 2.8 feet and Hapuna at 1.4 feet.
- 2:14Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is closed and without power following the hurricane. The park is under an advisory alert level, with Kīlauea eruption listed as a danger. Volcanic ash is also a caution in the area. If you're planning a Big Island volcano visit this week, check the park website before you go.
- 2:30Hurricane Lala hit hard, and if you're heading to the islands in the coming weeks or adjusting plans for being there now, our recovery resource guide covers what travelers should know — road conditions, what's reopened, cleanup safety, and what to expect. The islands are recovering fast, and that piece walks you through the situation on the ground right now.
- 2:48Wednesday and Thursday stay humid with showers spreading to more islands. Friday morning brings the last of the wet weather. By the weekend, trade winds return and conditions clear.
- 2:57Leeward beaches are your best bet through the week. Talk to you in the morning.
