- 2:10Speaker 4: people know.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Some people might know why we're here today, Girls Got
- 2:14Speaker 3: Hallmark began in October twenty twenty. January twenty twenty one
- 2:19Speaker 3: was our first non holiday movie season, right, and the
- 2:25Speaker 3: second movie we watched in that season was a New
- 2:27Speaker 3: Year's Resolution. And since watching that movie, Wendy has held
- 2:31Speaker 3: it up as kind of the worst movie she's ever seen. Yes, now,
- 2:36Speaker 3: we disagree on movies a lot. I don't have a problem.
- 2:38Speaker 4: When you don't like a movie. However, However, what I
- 2:44Speaker 4: in my mind keep thinking, We've watched so many worst movies.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Why is this the life like? There have been so
- 2:50Speaker 4: many worst movies? And I have remained convinced that maybe
- 2:55Speaker 4: you'll prove me wrong that this isn't actually the worst
- 2:58Speaker 4: Hallmark movie we've ever seen. You might still hate it.
- 3:01Speaker 4: But is it Chasing Waterfalls? Oh?
- 3:04Speaker 5: Are we gonna have to do Chasing Waterfalls revisited just.
- 3:06Speaker 4: To confirm No, it's actually that bad, that's the worst movie.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Well.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Look, the thing about me is when I believe something,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I believe it with my whole heart. So I fully
- 3:16Speaker 3: believe that's worse. So I've been saying, I need you
- 3:19Speaker 3: to rewatch this movie.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And we did.
- 3:21Speaker 3: We rewatched the movie, and what my process was I
- 3:24Speaker 3: watched the movie, I took all of my notes, and
- 3:27Speaker 3: then I listened to the first several minutes of our
- 3:30Speaker 3: old episode just to.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Get a feel of the vibe. And you really did
- 3:35Speaker 4: hate it. You said the words, I hated this movie really, Yes,
- 3:39Speaker 4: oh boy.
- 3:41Speaker 3: And we had a guest on that episode, Callie Junger
- 3:43Speaker 3: of Hallmarks A spot that was a good time. She
- 3:45Speaker 3: and I both enjoyed the movie. Now, timeline wise, this
- 3:51Speaker 3: dropped a week after taking a shot at love, which
- 3:53Speaker 3: you and I love. Right, the bar was high. Yes,
- 3:56Speaker 3: it's not taking a shot at love. But let's get
- 3:58Speaker 3: into it. Let's do some news and notes, Okay. A
- 4:00Speaker 3: synopsis first, Sure.
- 4:02Speaker 5: When a morning show producer makes a New Year's resolution
- 4:06Speaker 5: to say yes more, she crosses pass with a confirmed
- 4:10Speaker 5: yes man who just might hold the key to her
- 4:13Speaker 5: biggest story and to her heart. Starring Amy T. Garden
- 4:17Speaker 5: and Michael Rady.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Backstory to the backstory, this movie was ripped from the lineup.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It was supposed to air in twenty nineteen as part
- 4:27Speaker 3: of that years countdown to Christmas. And there's not a
- 4:31Speaker 3: lot of officials.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Yeah, but what's crazy is that it was supposed to
- 4:37Speaker 5: air on December twenty eighth, and it was pulled or
- 4:40Speaker 5: it was announced that it was pulled on December sixteenth.
- 4:43Speaker 5: We're talking a week and change before it's supposed to air,
- 4:47Speaker 5: and it's gone off the schedule. Is wild to me,
- 4:50Speaker 5: like me too, something must have happened well.
- 4:54Speaker 3: And I am just imagining myself as Amy T. Gardener
- 4:57Speaker 3: Michael Rady, who's like, excuse me, where's my movie that
- 5:00Speaker 3: was supposed to be. I mean, I've already been paid
- 5:02Speaker 3: for the work, but I would feel very badly about
- 5:05Speaker 3: that if they said we're not airing your movie.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I would be like, is this a reflection of
- 5:10Speaker 5: my work? I mean from everybody, the actors, the director, yes, writer,
- 5:16Speaker 5: the whatever, whoever works.
- 5:18Speaker 4: On the movie. Yes, I'm sure they were like, what's
- 5:21Speaker 4: going on here? What happened?
- 5:23Speaker 5: I did read that coincidence are not But the movie's producer,
- 5:30Speaker 5: Kevin Duda, also had another movie pulled from the Hallwark
- 5:34Speaker 5: schedule earlier that year. I don't know if there's any
- 5:40Speaker 5: We're just spitting facts, yes, yes, exactly.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Speaking of facts, this movie was originally titled New Year
- 5:47Speaker 4: Knew Me. I like a New Year's resolution. Matter, I
- 5:50Speaker 4: don't I like New Year Knew Me.
- 5:52Speaker 5: I think it is a better reflection of the story
- 5:56Speaker 5: that's told in the movie. Look, guys, I want to
- 5:59Speaker 5: say that I really paid attention to this movie when
- 6:01Speaker 5: I rewatched it, and really did the due diligence and.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Took copious notes. Yes, I can't wait. Okay.
- 6:10Speaker 3: This movie was filmed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and Saint
- 6:13Speaker 3: Ambrose Beach Provincial Park in Canada, reportedly filmed in October
- 6:17Speaker 3: November twenty nineteen.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Of course, it is set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- 6:22Speaker 5: It feels like a really old movie to say, like
- 6:24Speaker 5: twenty nineteen, right, we are now twenty twenty four.
- 6:30Speaker 4: There's BP and before pandemic, like BP, what are you
- 6:37Speaker 4: talking about?
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yes?
- 6:38Speaker 5: Amy t Guard plays Kelly. She currently has thirty eight
- 6:42Speaker 5: acting credits. Amy is probably most known as Texas teenager
- 6:47Speaker 5: Julie Taylor from Friday Night Lights. Since the conclusion of
- 6:52Speaker 5: Friday Night Lights, she went on to start in Once
- 6:54Speaker 5: Upon a Christmas Miracle, My Christmas Family Tree, Heart of
- 6:58Speaker 5: the Matter, Autumn the City, and Christmas Class Reunion for
- 7:02Speaker 5: Hallmark Channel.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Michael Rady plays Tom.
- 7:06Speaker 3: He has fifty five acting credits at the moment, and
- 7:09Speaker 3: we most recently saw Michael in this year's Where Are
- 7:13Speaker 3: You Christmas? Other Hallmark movies of his include Unexpected Grace,
- 7:18Speaker 3: The Christmas bo You're Baking Me Crazy, as well as
- 7:21Speaker 3: fan favorite Love to the Rescue. I want to add
- 7:23Speaker 3: another note to this. In our original episode, we're like,
- 7:26Speaker 3: is it Raddy?
- 7:28Speaker 4: Is it Rady Like?
- 7:29Speaker 3: He was so unknown to us at the time, so unknown.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I have some notes about that too. Now he's like
- 7:35Speaker 3: our best tiem Michael. That's a stretch Girl.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Kelly's friend group was played by Eli's Bowman. She played
- 7:40Speaker 5: a j Patricia Isaac That's Lisa, and Devin Alexander who
- 7:45Speaker 5: played Jackson. Now, Devin Alexander is one of those faces
- 7:48Speaker 5: that shows up a lot in Hallmark movies, yet he
- 7:52Speaker 5: never has a lead role, and we last saw him
- 7:55Speaker 5: in Love and Glacier, National Where Your Heart Belongs, The
- 7:58Speaker 5: Santa Steak Out, and a movie Megan mentioned just mere
- 8:02Speaker 5: minutes ago, Chasing Waterfalls Justice for Devin.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Sarah Montana is the writer of this movie. She most
- 8:08Speaker 3: recently wrote Rescuing Christmas, which premiered exclusively on the Hallmark
- 8:12Speaker 3: Movies and now app on December seventh. She also previously
- 8:15Speaker 3: penned If I Only had Christmas, Two Turtle Doves and
- 8:19Speaker 3: once Again Love.
- 8:20Speaker 4: To the Rescue.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Leslie Demitriode is directed. She has eleven directing credits, but
- 8:24Speaker 3: only one since this movie, and it was eb movie.
- 8:27Speaker 4: A Christmas present for Gaff. What was your second impression
- 8:32Speaker 4: of this movie?
- 8:33Speaker 5: It wasn't as terrible as I remember, but I do
- 8:38Speaker 5: have thoughts.
- 8:39Speaker 4: My second impression is I still like this movie.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Uh, Okay, I'm not trying to spoil it with my
- 8:47Speaker 5: uh because I think I might surprise you. I think
- 8:50Speaker 5: I might surprise you. Let's talk about what we liked.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Well, I really liked the many events that we see now.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Some of them are a little cheesy, like the obstacle
- 8:59Speaker 3: course moment is obviously there's like four people at this
- 9:02Speaker 3: obsticle course event, but I like them, She goes curling.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I like the Gatsby event with the costume design.
- 9:09Speaker 2: There.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I know you thought the Gatsby event was so cheesy.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I liked the many events. I like that they were busy.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I like the polar plunge, even though it sounds miserable,
- 9:20Speaker 4: she fully committed.
- 9:22Speaker 5: I remember that being like such a bigger sticking point
- 9:28Speaker 5: for me in my first review, but watching it this
- 9:31Speaker 5: second time, I was like, Yeah. In the first review,
- 9:34Speaker 5: I was like, Oh, that's ridiculous.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Who does that?
- 9:37Speaker 5: She's in a bikini, like everybody else is in wet.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Suits, Like, there are a lot of people in bathing suits.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Well, what I liked about that scene is that there
- 9:46Speaker 3: are like bodies of all shapes and sizes in that moment,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and they're in bathing suits.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I say, I didn't even notice that. Did we talk
- 9:52Speaker 5: about it on the first time round?
- 9:53Speaker 4: I don't know, but I was watching it this time.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I know we talked about the fact that, like, you're
- 9:58Speaker 3: not putting me in the big on a Hallmark movie,
- 10:03Speaker 3: But there were a number of people in swimsuits that
- 10:06Speaker 3: ran in and ran out.
- 10:07Speaker 4: That's the whole point. It's supposed to be cold.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Are you supposed to run into the water or plunged?
- 10:13Speaker 5: To me, sounds like you're jumping in.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Well, how do you jump in when it's a beach
- 10:17Speaker 4: entry from a pier. I don't know. They didn't have
- 10:21Speaker 4: that available, so they don't know.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:23Speaker 5: It just seems like it would be so much more
- 10:26Speaker 5: tortuous to like run out into like this. I agree
- 10:30Speaker 5: to get to my knees and be like, nope, Well,
- 10:33Speaker 5: I think.
- 10:33Speaker 4: That's why, Like she she went full speed, like she
- 10:35Speaker 4: ran in. I think there's no like you can't wade
- 10:38Speaker 4: into a polar plunge.
- 10:39Speaker 5: No, And the water wherever they filmed this, I had
- 10:44Speaker 5: to have been a little bit cold at the time too,
- 10:47Speaker 5: because they did film it in October and November.
- 10:50Speaker 4: In Canada Manitoba. Yeah, I had to at least be chilly.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I would imagine it was miserable. So good on, Yes,
- 11:01Speaker 4: got it? Okay, do you have anything else you want
- 11:03Speaker 4: to add to that? I have lots of likes, but
- 11:06Speaker 4: give me one. Okay, this is.
- 11:08Speaker 5: My big statement here. It seems to me that this
- 11:13Speaker 5: story may have not fit the typical Hallmark movie mold
- 11:17Speaker 5: during the Abbot era.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Let me explain.
- 11:20Speaker 5: The main theme of the story is personal growth and
- 11:22Speaker 5: self discovery, and the romance takes a secondary role.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Don't you think so?
- 11:28Speaker 5: These narrative elements are more common now in the new
- 11:33Speaker 5: Hallmark era, and we've been talking a lot about it, right,
- 11:37Speaker 5: And I'm curious if Abbot didn't appreciate it because it
- 11:41Speaker 5: didn't fit the kind of movies he had been putting
- 11:45Speaker 5: out at the time.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Yeah, didn't fit the cookie cutter.
- 11:48Speaker 5: I did go back and look at like what were
- 11:51Speaker 5: like the popular twenty nineteen movies.
- 11:54Speaker 4: It was a lot of like love this romance, this,
- 11:59Speaker 4: you know, which hasn't changed much. It hasn't.
- 12:02Speaker 5: That's why I was like, well, it's not even like
- 12:03Speaker 5: I it's not even mentionable because.
- 12:06Speaker 4: But we didn't have a love classified standout woman in
- 12:09Speaker 4: twenty nineteen. We didn't have Christmas House in twenty nineteen.
- 12:13Speaker 4: We didn't have anything that was pushing on the Hallmark
- 12:19Speaker 4: box exactly.
- 12:22Speaker 5: But with all that said, I liked seventy five percent
- 12:25Speaker 5: of this story.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Okay, now I want you to tell me the thing
- 12:29Speaker 3: that bothered you, because I.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Have a thought on that.
- 12:33Speaker 5: What what's the twenty five percent I didn't like about it?
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yes, Amy T Garden isn't it.
- 12:38Speaker 5: We'll talk about that in the wished category.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Look, Michael Rady is a delight. He's always a delight.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He's pleasant to watch on screen. I'm happy to see
- 12:46Speaker 4: him come on screen. I enjoy his scenes. He seems
- 12:51Speaker 4: like he exudes good guy energy. To me, I feel
- 12:56Speaker 4: safe when he's around.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Interesting, he has a very comforting on screen presence. Of course,
- 13:01Speaker 3: He's very handsome, which is a nice little bonus. I
- 13:03Speaker 3: just find him charming and delightful, and I think he
- 13:09Speaker 3: elevates this movie. That being said, I really loved her
- 13:12Speaker 3: friend group. I thought they played nicely.
- 13:14Speaker 4: What is that face? We're gonna talk about it.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Okay, here's my thoughts on Michael Rady on Original Watch.
- 13:24Speaker 5: This was definitely the first Michael Rady movie I had
- 13:27Speaker 5: ever seen, and I may have poo pooed him a
- 13:30Speaker 5: little bit in our first review. I don't recall exactly,
- 13:35Speaker 5: but I have feelings that I might have been underwhelmed
- 13:39Speaker 5: by him. Since then, he's really grown on me. And
- 13:45Speaker 5: like you said, he's a good actor. I know he's
- 13:47Speaker 5: going to give a good performance, and if he's starring
- 13:50Speaker 5: in it, I'm probably going to watch it. I found
- 13:55Speaker 5: his character Tom to be like a cheerleader, a bright sider.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It's like drawn to that. And in addition, I kind
- 14:05Speaker 5: of found him a little bit smoldering, which feels weird
- 14:09Speaker 5: to say about Michael Rady.
- 14:12Speaker 4: It's not that weird, I just because you're like, he's
- 14:14Speaker 4: like the.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Good guy, right smoldering Maybe doesn't really like smoldering fits
- 14:19Speaker 5: like Tyler, but.
- 14:20Speaker 4: He could be a hot good guy.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Yeah right, Tyler Hines, I think is a good guy
- 14:24Speaker 3: though too, like he rarely plays a jerk.
- 14:28Speaker 4: No, I know he plays that like I can take
- 14:30Speaker 4: care of you. Yeah, I'm into that. I give you
- 14:33Speaker 4: these candy cane eyeste eyes.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Okay, so let me just talk about one saying that
- 14:40Speaker 5: really stood out to me with him. They're at the
- 14:43Speaker 5: gala and they're dancing, and he's barely talking above a
- 14:47Speaker 5: whisper to her, and he's telling her, like.
- 14:51Speaker 4: What good things to focus on? Do you recall He's
- 14:55Speaker 4: like the music, the whatever.
- 14:57Speaker 5: I was like, I'm into it made me feel like
- 14:59Speaker 5: a little something something Mmm. I thought it was a
- 15:03Speaker 5: great scene.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I liked the gaya and they have that kiss
- 15:07Speaker 4: that I thought it was nice at the gala. Yes, dancing, Yes, Yes,
- 15:11Speaker 4: two more little bits that I liked giving her the
- 15:14Speaker 4: game sorry as an apology for a board game lover,
- 15:17Speaker 4: super cute the classic game Did you notice that? And
- 15:20Speaker 4: the running middle name bit throughout is funny? I didn't
- 15:24Speaker 4: why why? It's just like a funny callback to what
- 15:30Speaker 4: to the fact that they don't know her middle name?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Oh?
- 15:32Speaker 4: All right, what did you wish for? Okay? Listen for
- 15:34Speaker 4: io first followed did you know that we used to
- 15:35Speaker 4: call this section? Oh we did?
- 15:39Speaker 3: I found that out and I was listening to this
- 15:41Speaker 3: episode roadblocks placed in the way of our romantic couple.
- 15:44Speaker 4: But then we changed it because not every movie. I
- 15:46Speaker 4: don't even recall that, Oh we did?
- 15:50Speaker 5: Okay, wow, what We've done a lot of reviews since then,
- 15:53Speaker 5: I don't.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Even I don't. I didn't remember either. I was shocked
- 15:55Speaker 4: when we said it.
- 15:56Speaker 5: I mean, I remember recording this in my closet. They
- 15:59Speaker 5: original episode to remember the details. Wow, that's crazy.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:05Speaker 5: These are the two biggest things okay that I realized
- 16:08Speaker 5: well rewatching this movie. The first one is.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I'm not rooty for Kelly.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I find Kelly to be a straight up wet blanket.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Despite taking on the New Year's challenges, which I love.
- 16:23Speaker 4: I love a new Year, new me sort of like yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Like that's I love that, but she always looks unhappy.
- 16:32Speaker 5: She takes herself way too seriously. I found her to
- 16:36Speaker 5: be exhausting, and I felt bad for Tom because he
- 16:41Speaker 5: was like always trying to like cheer up and like
- 16:45Speaker 5: be there for her. I was like, that has to
- 16:47Speaker 5: be exhausting as a partner.
- 16:50Speaker 3: So I think the reason that I like her and
- 16:54Speaker 3: her performance more than you did is because her personality
- 16:59Speaker 3: is like mine. And I don't mean the really organized,
- 17:03Speaker 3: hard working part, and I wrote, I mean the realist,
- 17:06Speaker 3: no fun part. Nope, nope, because I am not fun.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I am not exuberant. I thought she she had a
- 17:15Speaker 3: smile on her face when her friends were like, how
- 17:17Speaker 3: about we go dancing?
- 17:18Speaker 4: She was like, yes, she said yes to those things.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Of course, Yes, I'm gonna go dancing.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yes, I know.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Here's no thing. No, here's the other thing.
- 17:28Speaker 3: My follow up note to that is I don't actually
- 17:31Speaker 3: think she's no fun.
- 17:32Speaker 4: I think that she's hard working and trying to find
- 17:36Speaker 4: balance in her life. And I think being a single
- 17:40Speaker 4: adult who's trying to make it in your career while
- 17:43Speaker 4: also like maintaining your friendships and finding a new relationship
- 17:48Speaker 4: h when you are trying to grow in your career
- 17:52Speaker 4: is a challenging thing to do.
- 17:54Speaker 5: It is and I have some more thoughts on that. Okay,
- 17:57Speaker 5: that has to do with the friend group. I don't
- 17:58Speaker 5: think you're anything like this character of Kelly.
- 18:03Speaker 4: She was awful. The character was awful. Okay, you are
- 18:08Speaker 4: nothing like her. I'm not any fun, guys. I just
- 18:10Speaker 4: want to fair pop with me either.
- 18:14Speaker 5: But this bitch was like Debbie Downer times one hundred.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think I am too well, You're not.
- 18:22Speaker 5: You have a very skewed look at yourself. Okay, I'm
- 18:25Speaker 5: would I come here four days? I have personality dysmorphia?
- 18:29Speaker 4: Yes, absolutely, I'm come here four days a week because
- 18:32Speaker 4: we have a job to do. I enjoy hanging out
- 18:35Speaker 4: with you.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I mean we don't talk for ninety minutes before we
- 18:39Speaker 5: get on the you know what I mean, Like.
- 18:41Speaker 3: We don't walk in, sit down, click record. Oh, we
- 18:44Speaker 3: checking out each other like exactly.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Okay, Wow.
- 18:48Speaker 5: The second thing I'm you guys, I'm trying really hard.
- 18:52Speaker 5: When I was making my notes here, I was like, Wendy,
- 18:56Speaker 5: don't be an asshole. But I do not like Amy
- 19:00Speaker 5: T Garden.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Now, is this something you felt when we're watching other movies,
- 19:05Speaker 3: like think of My Christmas Family Tree.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Did you feel strongly about her in that movie?
- 19:10Speaker 5: I liked that movie, but I think I liked Andrew
- 19:13Speaker 5: Walker Andrew Story.
- 19:15Speaker 4: In that movie. She was James Tupper. Yeah, she was
- 19:19Speaker 4: like just an incidental actor in that movie.
- 19:23Speaker 5: I find her Wooden I find that she lacks presence.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I don't care for her as an actor, and I
- 19:32Speaker 5: don't want to come on here because I know that
- 19:34Speaker 5: people work really hard at their jobs. It does not
- 19:39Speaker 5: bring me pleasure to get come on here and be
- 19:41Speaker 5: like shit all over an actor.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Sure, and I'm really trying to restrain myself here. Okay.
- 19:50Speaker 5: I think looking back, the reason I did not like
- 19:54Speaker 5: this movie is because of, like I just said, two things,
- 19:58Speaker 5: the character of Kelly and Amy T Garden And I
- 20:02Speaker 5: was trying to think who would better be cast in this,
- 20:05Speaker 5: who would I like to watch in this? I think
- 20:07Speaker 5: Nicky Deloatch would have been awesome in this in this
- 20:10Speaker 5: role because she would have brought like a level of
- 20:13Speaker 5: like quirkiness.
- 20:15Speaker 4: She loves Nicki the load, so do I.
- 20:17Speaker 5: She brings an element of fun to her characters, a
- 20:21Speaker 5: little bit snarky, but fun. This to me was so
- 20:25Speaker 5: flat across the board. Like I'm telling you, I could
- 20:28Speaker 5: not get it up for this character.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Do you I know this is off topic.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Do you have a favorite or top two like Hallmark actresses?
- 20:40Speaker 4: Because I think Nicki's in the top.
- 20:42Speaker 5: Nkey's up there. I really enjoy anam Reeser.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Julie Gonzalez up there for me, Julie Ganze. Lesser names
- 20:52Speaker 4: I'm trying to think of, like lesser name Kimberly Sustad
- 20:56Speaker 4: always knocks it out of the PODC.
- 20:57Speaker 5: Yes, this would not have been a role for her,
- 20:59Speaker 5: though I don't I agree.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, this is secondary to because I think all
- 21:06Speaker 3: the points we're making our big points about the movie.
- 21:09Speaker 3: A secondary minor point about the movie that I found
- 21:12Speaker 3: very distracting is I don't understand Tom's job. He's in marketing, right,
- 21:21Speaker 3: stop running events if you're marketing. What's unclear to me
- 21:25Speaker 3: is he's in marketing for the bank, and the very
- 21:28Speaker 3: beginning he's like asking for a bigger budget next year,
- 21:31Speaker 3: so like it seemed like he was asking for a
- 21:34Speaker 3: bigger budget so they could do more of these events.
- 21:36Speaker 3: To me, it seems like bank marketing is like you
- 21:40Speaker 3: put a band, put on a customer appreciation event, like
- 21:43Speaker 3: we got coffee on Friday mornings in the branch. There's
- 21:46Speaker 3: a we organized a deal with you with the local
- 21:50Speaker 3: baseball team to buy like.
- 21:52Speaker 4: These tick you know what I mean? That's marketing.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yes, a banner, a sign here, an advertisement there. Maybe
- 21:59Speaker 3: they're responsible for writing a check to be a sponsor of.
- 22:04Speaker 4: One of these events. But a bank marketing dude is
- 22:08Speaker 4: not an event manager, right, Make him an event planner.
- 22:12Speaker 4: But they needed the whole bank. They needed some sort
- 22:15Speaker 4: of like scandal in the backstory to come in between them, which.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I also have issues with, so do I because I
- 22:21Speaker 3: feel like it was handled a little too lightly.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Oh interesting, Like if the bank is actually committing fraud,
- 22:28Speaker 4: they are signing up customers for these accounts because the
- 22:32Speaker 4: employees make more money.
- 22:35Speaker 3: The bank does better. It looks if you have more accounts,
- 22:38Speaker 3: that's fraud. You don't want your bank committing fraud, right,
- 22:42Speaker 3: And if he's the one who blows the lid off
- 22:44Speaker 3: of this not only goes to his manager about it,
- 22:46Speaker 3: but then goes on the news to talk about it,
- 22:49Speaker 3: he should have whistleblower protections.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Someone's going to murder him.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Bank fraud's a big deal, Like all those people are
- 22:56Speaker 3: then going to take their money out of the bank.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Yeah, because a run on the bank.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 4: The implications I think are bigger than they made them
- 23:03Speaker 4: in this movie.
- 23:05Speaker 5: This is the twenty five percent of the story that
- 23:07Speaker 5: I didn't really care for. And I understand they needed
- 23:10Speaker 5: some conflict, but like you said, I feel like it
- 23:14Speaker 5: was all your points are super valid. I agree, but
- 23:18Speaker 5: I do think it was unfair of Kelly to like
- 23:21Speaker 5: be mad at Tom for going to his boss about
- 23:26Speaker 5: this potential story that's going to like blow the lid off,
- 23:29Speaker 5: like the future.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Of the bank. I just think it was unreasonable for
- 23:32Speaker 4: her to be pissed off at him.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Well, she says, I needed to protect my source. Then bitch,
- 23:36Speaker 3: you shouldn't have shared that information with your new boyfriend,
- 23:40Speaker 3: right because now you've put him in a position or yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 3: he needs to do something about it.
- 23:46Speaker 5: And I thought, I mean, excuse me for being naive,
- 23:50Speaker 5: but I thought that they came up with a reasonable
- 23:54Speaker 5: solution because, like you said, it wasn't the bank that
- 23:58Speaker 5: it was committing fraud.
- 23:59Speaker 4: It was a couple of sells people.
- 24:00Speaker 3: But it seemed to me like when he goes to
- 24:03Speaker 3: his boss and his boss is like sh sh oh,
- 24:06Speaker 3: because the salespeople that he spoke to that basically like
- 24:09Speaker 3: clued him into what was happening were not the ones
- 24:11Speaker 3: linked to the accounts that had come forward. I assume
- 24:14Speaker 3: they were, but they specifically say they're not. At one
- 24:16Speaker 3: point and he's talking to his boss. He's like, wait,
- 24:18Speaker 3: but those guys weren't involved with those accounts. He's like,
- 24:21Speaker 3: we close those accounts. Whatever, So it's a bigger problem
- 24:25Speaker 3: than those two guys, and we'll like those two.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Guys are getting instruction from someone.
- 24:29Speaker 4: It seems like it.
- 24:30Speaker 3: When his boss is like sh basically like padded him
- 24:33Speaker 3: on the head, it seems like this is coming from
- 24:36Speaker 3: on high, like this is.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Something that we're letting our employees do. Got it boost
- 24:42Speaker 4: our sales? Got it?
- 24:44Speaker 5: Well, okay, when we look at it that way, it's
- 24:46Speaker 5: so messy. It's so messy.
- 24:48Speaker 4: You're right, the story's bigger than it it is. Then
- 24:50Speaker 4: they had the ability to make it. Yeah, and therefore
- 24:54Speaker 4: I think it's a bad conflict for this movie. So
- 24:57Speaker 4: they should have like spun the wheel.
- 25:01Speaker 3: The conflict enough is that they both want to leave
- 25:04Speaker 3: the city. They both have bigger dreams, Like that's enough.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Yeah, not like I'm a reporter, you work for the bank.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna expose your bank. Bernie made Off.
- 25:15Speaker 5: I hated that whole scene when they're at the chili
- 25:18Speaker 5: cookoff at the end and she's like, we can't be
- 25:21Speaker 5: together because it's gonna be disastrous. You know, if this
- 25:25Speaker 5: big story comes out and it's a conflict of interest
- 25:28Speaker 5: and blah blah blah blah blah, and she just wanted
- 25:30Speaker 5: to like shut it down.
- 25:32Speaker 4: This is what I'm talking about. She's like a huge
- 25:34Speaker 4: stick in the mud.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Would it really be a huge conflict of interest?
- 25:39Speaker 4: I don't know. Okay.
- 25:41Speaker 5: One final note on her friends. They were conditionally supportive
- 25:47Speaker 5: of her, and I thought that is that are some
- 25:51Speaker 5: shitty friends because they had already established that she was
- 25:55Speaker 5: on the verge of being fired the previous year, right
- 25:58Speaker 5: that there was like all this stuff, had the ratings
- 26:00Speaker 5: down at the TV show and whatever, So she was
- 26:03Speaker 5: like working her ass off to save her job practically,
- 26:06Speaker 5: and then these friends are like guilt tripping her for like,
- 26:09Speaker 5: you're not showing up to our events. Give the girls
- 26:12Speaker 5: some grace. She's trying to save her career. Yes, you
- 26:16Speaker 5: don't peace out and be like we left Christmas Eve
- 26:19Speaker 5: because you're late, and now you have to like beg
- 26:22Speaker 5: us to be friends.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Still, I just it pissed me off.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah, they were much nicer when she started playing their
- 26:28Speaker 3: game exactly.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yes, no pun intended. With all the games in this
- 26:34Speaker 4: they played life. That's the worst game. Life is the
- 26:36Speaker 4: worst game ever. I don't know why adults would choose
- 26:39Speaker 4: to pick Life.
- 26:40Speaker 2: No.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I hate that game and we owned it for a while,
- 26:43Speaker 3: and every time my kids would want to play, they're like, sorry,
- 26:45Speaker 3: not now.
- 26:45Speaker 4: It's this, it's too long ending every single time it's
- 26:49Speaker 4: And I like Monopoly, so don't come for me.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I love.
- 26:51Speaker 4: We play a lot of board games. Clue, you have fun?
- 26:54Speaker 4: Clues fun?
- 26:55Speaker 5: Did I tell you we bought checkers recently because my
- 26:58Speaker 5: husband and I were this summer at a hotel. The
- 27:03Speaker 5: whole family was, but they in the lobby had a
- 27:05Speaker 5: checkerboard and we sat down and we played for like
- 27:07Speaker 5: an hour and it was so much fun. I was like,
- 27:10Speaker 5: I'm buying this checkerboard for our own home. We haven't
- 27:13Speaker 5: played yet, but you should.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Well, we have that backgammon set set up all the time,
- 27:18Speaker 3: and like my kids and otherman sit down and play
- 27:20Speaker 3: all the time.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Really, your family's more fun than mine. See, I don't
- 27:24Speaker 4: do that, Not that I'm unwilling to. My husband be like,
- 27:28Speaker 4: let's play backgammon, and you're like, I have eight hundred
- 27:31Speaker 4: other things I need to do. Really, I hear you,
- 27:35Speaker 4: I hear you.
- 27:36Speaker 5: Are we ready to move on to Did you see that? Yes,
- 27:38Speaker 5: you already mentioned it. But the laughable relay obstacle, course,
- 27:42Speaker 5: it did remind me of Survivor a little bit. Yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 5: it would have been a Survivor thing. But I had
- 27:48Speaker 5: thoughts when they're like pulling themselves over this wall. I
- 27:50Speaker 5: was like, there's no way I could do that. Nope, same,
- 27:54Speaker 5: I say, it's laughable, and then I don't think I
- 27:56Speaker 5: could actually do it myself.
- 27:58Speaker 4: It's not that the obstacle course, it's is laughable, although
- 28:01Speaker 4: I do think it's a little bit short for like
- 28:04Speaker 4: a whole event. They're like this, yes. The other thing
- 28:14Speaker 4: is there's nobody there.
- 28:15Speaker 3: At one point, they're like climbing up the wall and
- 28:17Speaker 3: there's two people that are dropping off the other side
- 28:19Speaker 3: of the wall in front of them. Oh yeah, but
- 28:21Speaker 3: that's really the only time you ever see other participants.
- 28:24Speaker 3: It's it's very odd.
- 28:25Speaker 4: It was just an odd event.
- 28:27Speaker 3: When they're at their New Year's dinner and Tom is
- 28:30Speaker 3: with his friends and he's like, I can guess anybody's resolution, yes,
- 28:33Speaker 3: and they're like, go to the next table, pick someone.
- 28:36Speaker 4: So he sits down and he's like, somebody's going to
- 28:39Speaker 4: finish a creative pact. That that's not guessing.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Their resolutions, that's naming the most popular resolutions and assuming,
- 28:46Speaker 3: based on probability that someone in this group is going
- 28:49Speaker 3: to have made one of a very common resolution.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Agree, that's not what you think you can do. Power,
- 28:55Speaker 4: He was still charming.
- 28:56Speaker 3: When he was charming, it was fun, but it didn't
- 29:00Speaker 3: The setup didn't make sense. It would have made more
- 29:02Speaker 3: sense if it was like, everyone makes the same resolutions
- 29:05Speaker 3: and I can prove it to you, not I can
- 29:07Speaker 3: guess what your specific resolution.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Is, Yes, ma'am, yes, yes, yes.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Did you notice that Tom and Kelly have this whole
- 29:15Speaker 5: conversation about the bank story when she is behind a
- 29:19Speaker 5: bathroom door like they're getting ready for the game, Oh yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 5: And she's like I'm not ready yet, and he's like,
- 29:24Speaker 5: I would really like to talk to you face to
- 29:25Speaker 5: face and she's and it's all voiceover, And I was like,
- 29:29Speaker 5: I wonder if this was like a.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Scene that they had to like.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Fill in to like make the bank story work.
- 29:37Speaker 4: But you can see her like shadow through the door,
- 29:40Speaker 4: not actually her, But then like they wouldn't have him
- 29:43Speaker 4: come back to like a set just to film like this.
- 29:47Speaker 4: I mean maybe they do. I don't know how. I don't.
- 29:50Speaker 4: I didn't get that feeling.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I just got the impression like that was a busy day,
- 29:53Speaker 3: Like they had to go to his niece's party, and
- 29:55Speaker 3: then he had to go to this skala.
- 29:57Speaker 5: They went to the nieces party, then they went to
- 29:59Speaker 5: that caf fay where the cafe, then they went to
- 30:03Speaker 5: the gala.
- 30:03Speaker 4: It was a twenty four hour date. It was it
- 30:06Speaker 4: was a long day. Yes, and I'd be like, I
- 30:09Speaker 4: can't go to a galen Now we've had a full day.
- 30:12Speaker 4: I need a nap. Like we go lay on the
- 30:14Speaker 4: couch and watch Survivor. Please, what if she needs to
- 30:17Speaker 4: shave her legs.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:18Speaker 3: There's a scene where she is explaining the potential fraud
- 30:23Speaker 3: to him and he's like, we just did the survey
- 30:25Speaker 3: and we have thousands of happy customers.
- 30:27Speaker 4: You're a smart man. Two different things can be true.
- 30:29Speaker 4: You can have happy customers and customers who are being
- 30:32Speaker 4: defrauded at the same time. Yeah, it seemed odd to me. Okay,
- 30:36Speaker 4: anything else?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:37Speaker 5: One more at her Gatsby birthday party. Yeah, Tom arrives.
- 30:43Speaker 5: She runs over and shouts you're here, Like this is
- 30:46Speaker 5: the most excited we've ever seen her uh huh, And
- 30:49Speaker 5: it was so out of character for her that like
- 30:52Speaker 5: it gave me like jump scare, Like yeah, I was like,
- 30:55Speaker 5: is she drunk?
- 30:55Speaker 4: Like what's happening?
- 30:57Speaker 5: And the full second hand embarrassment when she goes back
- 30:59Speaker 5: to do her like Charleston dance or whatever, and I
- 31:02Speaker 5: was like Ruby from three Bed two Bath one Ghosts
- 31:05Speaker 5: is rolling over in her grave watching this pitch dance.
- 31:08Speaker 4: I will say you did mention that on the last
- 31:10Speaker 4: episode as well. Hated the dancing, yeah, oh my gosh.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Hated the dancing.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Okay, well, because she's like, don't you know how I
- 31:18Speaker 3: feel about dancing in these movies?
- 31:21Speaker 5: And I know what was like her birthday and they
- 31:23Speaker 5: were in some sort of like house, I don't even
- 31:25Speaker 5: know where, but like she's in the center. It's her birthday.
- 31:28Speaker 5: She's like in the center of this room like dancing.
- 31:31Speaker 5: I was like, what It just made me uncomfortable, Okay,
- 31:35Speaker 5: I didn't like it.
- 31:35Speaker 4: It was super out of character.
- 31:39Speaker 3: When Tom's like, oh, this is kind of a Gatsby
- 31:41Speaker 3: party and they're like, oh, you don't know, Kelly, she
- 31:43Speaker 3: loves a theme party.
- 31:45Speaker 4: I hear what you say, And.
- 31:47Speaker 3: In that moment, I was like, they've painted her as
- 31:50Speaker 3: no fun, right because she works hard though. This is
- 31:53Speaker 3: why this was the incongruous moment for me, And like,
- 31:57Speaker 3: everything you have to say about her being no fun
- 32:00Speaker 3: isn't because she doesn't like to do fun things. It's
- 32:02Speaker 3: because she doesn't have the time to get it all in.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I got to tell you her friend Lisa, the
- 32:07Speaker 5: one who was like the police officer. Yeah, I found
- 32:11Speaker 5: her stunning.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Okay, why aren't you in more movies? Yeah, dropped dead Gorge.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I really enjoyed her. I would have preferred to see
- 32:18Speaker 4: her in the lead role. Oh okay, all right, you
- 32:23Speaker 4: know what I gave this movie last time because I
- 32:25Speaker 4: don't know and also we were rating on four stars
- 32:27Speaker 4: at that Oh okay, I didn't listen to the whole episode. Okay,
- 32:30Speaker 4: would you rate it two point seventy five?
- 32:32Speaker 5: I can't get past Kelly and Amy de Garden.
- 32:34Speaker 4: I only gave it a three. Oh okay. I liked
- 32:38Speaker 4: the story on the rewatch.
- 32:39Speaker 5: I was like, I'm this story is very relatable of
- 32:42Speaker 5: working too hard, saying no to a lot of things.
- 32:46Speaker 5: Like I could definitely put myself in that role. I
- 32:51Speaker 5: just didn't like all the like, yeah, you know what
- 32:55Speaker 5: I didn't like.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Thank you for listening to this revisited episode of Girls
