Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: They're calling it one of the All Blacks greatest wins
- 0:02Speaker 1: in years. Huge thirty three sixteen victory over the Box
- 0:05Speaker 1: at Alice Park, our biggest ever there and first win
- 0:08Speaker 1: in South Africa in four years, five tries to one,
- 0:12Speaker 1: just three box points after halftime. So how much credit
- 0:15Speaker 1: does Dave Rennie get?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Like, It's not about me, you know, I'm really rare
- 0:20Speaker 2: for the class. We've got a fantastic group of staff
- 0:22Speaker 2: who've worked really hard and so yeah, like it's a
- 0:26Speaker 2: special night. It's it's tough to win Alice Park against
- 0:30Speaker 2: a high quality size.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Certainly as Sean Fitzpatrick, former All Black captain in Johannesburg
- 0:34Speaker 1: with me this morning, Hey Sean.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Good morning, A good yeah, a very special day in
- 0:43Speaker 3: the life of New Zealand rugby.
- 0:44Speaker 4: For sure.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Did you think going in, because I was asking everyone
- 0:48Speaker 1: last week are they going to do it? Are they
- 0:50Speaker 1: not going to do it? It was kind of fifty
- 0:51Speaker 1: to fifty. What did you really think was going to happen?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Ron? I was quietly confident, but I was also concerned
- 1:00Speaker 3: in terms of it's probably the most hostile environment of
- 1:05Speaker 3: any any ground I've ever played them, and there was
- 1:08Speaker 3: a number of the boys hadn't hadn't experienced that, and
- 1:12Speaker 3: it's a case of how they were going to deal
- 1:13Speaker 3: with that, really and and they obviously dealt with it
- 1:18Speaker 3: pretty well the way they hung in there.
- 1:20Speaker 4: So.
- 1:23Speaker 3: It sort of played out how I thought it would.
- 1:26Speaker 3: But the way they just dug in and the atmosphere
- 1:30Speaker 3: there ryan was was second to none. The noise was unbelievable,
- 1:34Speaker 3: especially in the sort of end of that first half
- 1:36Speaker 3: when they were starting to really dominate at scrum time.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I was a little bit concerned at that stage.
- 1:45Speaker 1: How much of this do you put down to Rennie's coaching,
- 1:47Speaker 1: And you know, I mean not only throughout the last
- 1:50Speaker 1: few months, but at halftime.
- 1:54Speaker 3: They've got a they've got a real belief in what
- 1:56Speaker 3: they're doing. He's picked players to play a particular game plan.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And they believed in that.
- 2:06Speaker 3: And you know, they said at halftime, you know, the
- 2:08Speaker 3: spring Box had basically thrown.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Everything at them, and we were leading by one point.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So I was really pleased at the way they stuck
- 2:21Speaker 3: at it. You know that you saw it, the way
- 2:25Speaker 3: they were dominating that scrum that sort of the thirty
- 2:28Speaker 3: minute mark, I was thinking, oh, oh, this is this
- 2:31Speaker 3: is not looking very good. But then they came out
- 2:36Speaker 3: in that second half, and obviously that Fabian Holland charged
- 2:39Speaker 3: down really sort of shifted the mad mention of the game.
- 2:42Speaker 3: And you know, they had thrown everything at us, and their.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Attack didn't seem to be doing too much.
- 2:51Speaker 3: We were very good defensively, and they sort of thought that,
- 2:57Speaker 3: you know, they would out muscle us, and especially that
- 2:59Speaker 3: first half they had about sort of seven or eight
- 3:01Speaker 3: scrums and didn't take any shots at goal.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And then eventually we've got to turnover and in the
- 3:08Speaker 4: whole momentum just shifted, you know, hugely.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Sure, And I spoke to and we've got three more
- 3:14Speaker 1: tests to play now next in Cape Town. I spoke
- 3:16Speaker 1: to Ian Jones on Friday. He said, you win the
- 3:19Speaker 1: first one, you kind of win them all psychologically, from
- 3:23Speaker 1: a from a psychological point of view, what do you
- 3:26Speaker 1: reckon is going to happen next?
- 3:28Speaker 3: I think it was paramount we had to win that test,
- 3:32Speaker 3: and it was against the We're playing the double world
- 3:35Speaker 3: champions in there in their backyard at altitude, and and
- 3:40Speaker 3: we we nick that. So we go to Cape Town
- 3:43Speaker 3: now with a degree of confidence. You know that the
- 3:47Speaker 3: press here today have got into them quite a bit.
- 3:50Speaker 3: They've got into Rassi and you know, i'd imagine he
- 3:57Speaker 3: will make quite a few changes. But I'm you know,
- 4:01Speaker 3: Cape Town's a good place for the Alplex to play.
- 4:03Speaker 3: It's almost like a home home game for us. We
- 4:06Speaker 3: get a lot of support down here. So you know,
- 4:09Speaker 3: we've we've we've just got to get better than what
- 4:12Speaker 3: we were because the spring Box, they don't go away, Ryan,
- 4:17Speaker 3: they don't like losing. They're like us, and it's going
- 4:21Speaker 3: to be one hell of a test in Cape Town.
- 4:23Speaker 3: But it's really set up this whole, this whole greatest
- 4:26Speaker 3: greatest rivalry series that New Zealand Rugby and South African
- 4:30Speaker 3: Rugby have created is just phenomenal. The the interest here
- 4:35Speaker 3: is mind blowing and that's what that's what we need
- 4:38Speaker 3: in rugby. We need interests like this to engage, engage
- 4:42Speaker 3: the fans.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Fantastic.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Let's hope all of your dreams come trou Shuan Fitzpatrick's
- 4:46Speaker 1: nice to have you on the program.
