- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have very
- 0:06Speaker 1: special guest actor, comedian, writer, producer Johann Jones is in
- 0:10Speaker 1: the building.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hello, how are you doing?
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm good? Why you do that?
- 0:17Speaker 2: You know, give give everybody levels?
- 0:20Speaker 1: You know? I like that.
- 0:22Speaker 3: So I have you in the studio about to cook
- 0:26Speaker 3: me a nice dish. What are we eating as a
- 0:29Speaker 3: broke dish today?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Okay, this this is going to change your life. You
- 0:33Speaker 2: never had a dish like this? So pleasant. I'm missing
- 0:37Speaker 2: my butter, though I don't see my butter.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Did you put butter on the line?
- 0:40Speaker 2: I did put butter on it? I crazy? Yeah, we
- 0:47Speaker 2: have butter, I'm sure we do. Yeah, let's get some butter.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I've just noticed that. I'm like, wow, So, yes, I'm
- 0:54Speaker 2: about to make the best dish ever.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure there's only vegan butter back then.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I guess we got to deal with it because judging
- 1:03Speaker 2: me on my meal without my ingredients. But it's cool.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I love when people say you forgot an ingredient. That
- 1:08Speaker 3: would be funny if that ingredient was on the list.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Because it was. It was like four. But it's called noodles.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Oh, it's that's what it's called. I was like, man,
- 1:22Speaker 3: you know, you was broke wn. You don't see any meat.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You're right, and I'm from the d m V. And
- 1:26Speaker 2: this is a luxury. You know. This was like how
- 1:28Speaker 2: we got down. I mean, it's called top ramen, but
- 1:31Speaker 2: this was like the thing to eat before. You know,
- 1:35Speaker 2: you saw a noodle a ramen restaurant on every corner.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Now, oh yeah, yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Is that real butter or vegan butter? You didn't even look.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It's the one out of the whatever. Let's let's she said,
- 2:14Speaker 1: it looks the whole time when you were in there.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Oh good, because he was, well, it's your still up here.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess you're not gonna use.
- 2:24Speaker 1: None of that. No, we'll use it. It was recording.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we still so yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Tell us about oodles and noodles and noodles and noodles.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and noodles and this butter looks nice. So I
- 2:38Speaker 2: guess we're.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Gonna we're gonna find out if it's vegan or not.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure doesn't matter to taste good. So yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: before a ramen place was hot. I feel like we
- 2:49Speaker 2: were eating udles and noodles. We made ramen hot. We
- 2:54Speaker 2: made everybody talk about, oh my gosh, bring it back
- 2:58Speaker 2: from China and do it here in America because they
- 3:02Speaker 2: heard about how we did it in the DMV.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I'm gonna figure out if you're really, really were broke
- 3:07Speaker 3: by answer, if you could answer this one question correctly,
- 3:12Speaker 3: do you go out and buy.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Ramen at a restaurant.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Back then? Over now?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Now?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Well?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Have you yeah? Okay? I mean yeah, yeah, you made
- 3:25Speaker 1: it to the other side.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You made it to the other side. I mean, but
- 3:28Speaker 2: I made it to.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The other side when you could literally do that.
- 3:31Speaker 3: You could make this in your kitchen for a dollar,
- 3:33Speaker 3: and you're gonna go to a restaurant spend twenty dollars
- 3:36Speaker 3: on some wrong.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But there's a difference. There's there's a difference like, oh,
- 3:39Speaker 2: like you got the ramen spots now and the loose goods.
- 3:42Speaker 2: We made it from scratch. It's is like we just
- 3:44Speaker 2: made the ramen from the dough and everything, and you
- 3:46Speaker 2: know they have how they say all this different stuff,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and it's like you see a lot of Asians back there,
- 3:51Speaker 2: So it makes it a little bit more official, so
- 3:53Speaker 2: and they add other things to it. No, Ramen is
- 3:56Speaker 2: a culture and udles and noodles was something that they
- 4:00Speaker 2: put in the grocery stores for us to get to
- 4:04Speaker 2: or top Ramen. Should I say, so, we can get
- 4:07Speaker 2: to it. But they've been doing this stuff. Ramen's Asian connection,
- 4:10Speaker 2: that's an Asian pirsuave.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Well let's see, how are you gonna make this Ramen
- 4:14Speaker 3: all special?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well, first and foremost, you got a boil of water.
- 4:19Speaker 2: You got a slow boiler?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Do you have it on low? Is that why?
- 4:22Speaker 2: You? Sure?
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you got it on low?
- 4:24Speaker 3: He said, we have a slow boiler boiler, but he
- 4:27Speaker 3: didn't even put it on high.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, readings fundamental. So yeah, so first you start
- 4:32Speaker 2: off boiling the water. Okay, Now you need yourself a
- 4:36Speaker 2: nice onion because I'm an onion man. You know, it
- 4:39Speaker 2: adds a certain level of extra spice.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Where are you gonna add the onion into the water?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's good, I'm about to get to it.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Baby back, you know what I'm saying. Then it adds
- 4:52Speaker 2: a little bit more of a crunch to it too,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. You got now, you got
- 4:56Speaker 2: your your season seasons, You need black pepper. We don't
- 5:00Speaker 2: need to do salt. So you got salt. You didn't
- 5:02Speaker 2: forget that soy sauce. Just a look, and then you
- 5:06Speaker 2: got see what's the deal with the crystals the crystal
- 5:09Speaker 2: hot sauce. So see, I'm not really a hot sauce man.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I really don't like to do spice because it's too spicy.
- 5:16Speaker 2: It's not in my life. But Crystal's hot sauce is like,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you know, it's it's like it gives you a little spicy,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but it's not. It's like kool aidives of hot sauce.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So I'm glad I learned that because I'm not a
- 5:30Speaker 3: big spicy person. But I was like googling where do
- 5:33Speaker 3: you get crystals hot sauce? And it said Walmart.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I said, yes, I.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Feel like hot sauce is not even spicy. I I
- 5:40Speaker 2: feel like it's the flavor of chili pepper, Like it's
- 5:43Speaker 2: just not spicy. And I don't do spice at all. Yeah,
- 5:47Speaker 2: it's the only one that I've let you know.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I'm glad I didn't try to cheat you and just
- 5:53Speaker 3: put whatever in the kitchen, because then I.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Would have died. Also, we need butter. They found butter
- 6:00Speaker 2: last minute, Thank you Lord and eggs. I like to
- 6:06Speaker 2: boil the eggs.
- 6:07Speaker 1: This is what I thought. You wanted them hard boiled already.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Oh they're already hard boiled.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah that's cool. Do you want us to get you
- 6:14Speaker 1: It's fine, we boil them for you now.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Now. Now here's the thing. How did you boil them?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Is the yolk all super hard in the middle?
- 6:23Speaker 1: You know how?
- 6:24Speaker 3: I know because me and this other girl was cleaning
- 6:28Speaker 3: the studio yesterday and the girl said to me, how
- 6:31Speaker 3: long do you usually boil your heart boiled eggs? I
- 6:34Speaker 3: said to her, I swear to god, I said, they're
- 6:36Speaker 3: hard boiled. Who's counting? And she was like, girl, I
- 6:39Speaker 3: got you high five. So them things was boiling for
- 6:42Speaker 3: at least like ten fifteen minutes.
- 6:43Speaker 1: They gotta be solid.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Well, you know, I do prefer the yolk
- 6:51Speaker 2: to be nice and soft and flaky when you touch it.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You know that old hard, there's a rock, it's you know,
- 6:59Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. We know. Now we're going to see
- 7:01Speaker 2: we have we have other eggs.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I think in the back.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Well we would need another part too, so we could.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Do that if you want. You want to see here
- 7:07Speaker 1: and boil eggs.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well we can do we can do both and see
- 7:09Speaker 2: what happens, you know, Okay, we might be fine.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, let's just be fine because I want to hear
- 7:13Speaker 1: your story too, yes.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so uh well yeah, tell me how I want
- 7:17Speaker 2: me to cut these onions.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to see you cut it. Uh Johan
- 7:20Speaker 3: here was talking about washing an onion. I've never heard
- 7:24Speaker 3: of someone doing that, so I just want to. I
- 7:26Speaker 3: want to experience the experience of washing onion.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Get washed.
- 7:29Speaker 2: So, okay, guys, I just want to ask you in
- 7:32Speaker 2: the comments whatever section if you know there's a comment section.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I'm sure there is.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Okay, so guys, just put in it. Do you you know,
- 7:41Speaker 2: when you get your vegetables, do you rense them? You do?
- 7:44Speaker 1: But not an onion?
- 7:45Speaker 2: Well, what's the difference with an onion?
- 7:47Speaker 1: It's got layers. You could literally cut it off. But
- 7:50Speaker 1: go ahead, I want to watch this.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, Well I'll cut while you while you question there.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I have never in my life, and I hope, I
- 7:59Speaker 3: hope this is a real thing that all people do.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Is but I've never washed an onion ever.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Now, normally I wash an onion with the sink. But
- 8:07Speaker 2: we're gonna make it work with this. Now we don't exactly,
- 8:12Speaker 2: we don't need a whole onionod it's a nice knife job, sponsor.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure you cut the onion. Now. This is
- 8:24Speaker 2: still a lot of onion. But there's two people.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Now.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I do have a rule, but I'll trust myself nor
- 8:32Speaker 2: because I see you got two packs there. The rule
- 8:37Speaker 2: to top Ramen is one pack per pot. There's something
- 8:43Speaker 2: about quantity in quality. For some reason, most times you
- 8:50Speaker 2: can't make more than one pack, and it just tastes
- 8:53Speaker 2: just as good. But you know I'm trusting, So just no.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Normally when you do this, use one pack.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So what if you have like someone over, you gotta
- 9:04Speaker 1: get another pot?
- 9:05Speaker 4: Wow?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Or wait?
- 9:07Speaker 1: I just so you know, I put double the water
- 9:09Speaker 1: for double the packs.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Okay, cool, Okay, it's cool, it's cool. So yeah, what
- 9:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna do is I'm gonna peel this onion off
- 9:15Speaker 2: a little bit, you know what I'm saying, because you
- 9:17Speaker 2: got all this extra stuff coming. See you see that?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Look it up?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah, look at that clean little layer.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Is it clean? Though?
- 9:22Speaker 3: But that's the thing you're pulling off, the bare minimum.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I pull off that second, lady, But.
- 9:26Speaker 2: That's taking off meat, meat off the.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Broke brokeness right now, I'm respecting.
- 9:31Speaker 2: You know, is a woman taking off her ass, cheeks
- 9:34Speaker 2: and the panties, all right? You know what I'm You
- 9:37Speaker 2: see a little all your stuff on it? Okay, cool,
- 9:39Speaker 2: it's a little little layer. Yeah, I would prefer not
- 9:42Speaker 2: to have all the extra hair, hairy skin. Yeah, that's
- 9:45Speaker 2: a layer that we could take off.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's a little bit too much panties. That's
- 9:50Speaker 2: the actually layer of panty right there, you know. All right,
- 9:53Speaker 2: so we do that? Okay, cool?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Let me know why you name it shows? What's your
- 9:57Speaker 1: name it?
- 9:58Speaker 2: Right? So now look at that. Now we're ready.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Now you're gonna wash it.
- 10:03Speaker 2: We went through the little rints. I only looking fresh
- 10:09Speaker 2: and ready to be.
- 10:10Speaker 3: That was like a dip. That was like a baptism
- 10:12Speaker 3: of the onion. But okay, I got it less.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Now you're ready to just like you can bite this
- 10:16Speaker 2: right now?
- 10:17Speaker 1: No thanks, okay, cool? Would you ever eat an onion?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Wrong? You pay me some money? Okay, it's probably torture. Torture, torture,
- 10:26Speaker 2: all right, okay, cool, So I'm gonna cut this onion up.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Are you excited.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I'm also curious what was going on at the time
- 10:35Speaker 3: when you were making an onion Ramen.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So at the time when I was doing it first
- 10:41Speaker 2: started when we discovered it, Yeah, because you know, I
- 10:45Speaker 2: was talking to some of these Asian cats and I
- 10:48Speaker 2: was like, you know what, we're gonna do this for y'all.
- 10:52Speaker 2: We're gonna make this hide in the streets. But I
- 10:54Speaker 2: was a young tender aro only living at home when
- 10:59Speaker 2: my parents Mommy and Daddy in the DMV District Heights.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I think it was probably Yeah, I made top Roman
- 11:08Speaker 2: all the way to the age of tender eighteen.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Oh you stop making it?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Well, you know, once you move to la and you
- 11:17Speaker 2: get all helf conscious, a lot of this stuff goes
- 11:18Speaker 2: out the window.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So you haven't e in this in a while?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Well, don't judge me. Wow, that sounds like a lot
- 11:27Speaker 2: of judgment. So I haven't had top ramen. Yes, this,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I haven't made this. Probably this masterpiece graduated to other things,
- 11:37Speaker 2: but I probably haven't made this in about in fifteen years.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Really. Oh yeah, Oh, so are you gonna like nostalgia
- 11:46Speaker 1: right now?
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little bit, you know what I'm saying
- 11:48Speaker 2: I don't even eat like this. I don't even eat
- 11:49Speaker 2: carbas during the week, you know, really not trying to
- 11:52Speaker 2: be bully with it.
- 11:52Speaker 3: It's just how you know, when people transfer over to
- 11:54Speaker 3: la A start talking like any cars carrots, just.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Shout out didn't work. Somebody did that trick to you
- 12:01Speaker 2: a couple of times.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I have siblings, didn't even flinch.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I am dead over here.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You got so you haven't eaten this in fifteen years.
- 12:11Speaker 3: That's like a testament to like your success in la
- 12:16Speaker 3: having its footprint on you.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Apparently.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Eat like a regular person, like you know, I haven't
- 12:28Speaker 3: said so. The most I don't do is red meat,
- 12:30Speaker 3: and that's because LA I'm allergic.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Okay, all right.
- 12:35Speaker 1: All right, So you're putting the onions in the water, got.
- 12:37Speaker 2: It freshly cut? You know you don't. You can cut
- 12:41Speaker 2: them how you want, as big as you want, as
- 12:43Speaker 2: small as you want, is how many you want. I'm
- 12:47Speaker 2: an onion lover, so you know I wouldn't use this
- 12:50Speaker 2: much for just myself, but I probably used about three.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Quarters of this just just hey, you ain't got to
- 12:55Speaker 3: put the whole thing in. Don't destroy the dish because
- 12:57Speaker 3: I will judge it.
- 12:58Speaker 2: You gotta eat it too. There's two people I know.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm just letting you know.
- 13:02Speaker 3: If it comes out all onion.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I like onions as long as they're cooked.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I like to cook them nice and soft. I
- 13:10Speaker 2: like to get them nice and soft and just just
- 13:16Speaker 2: the juice onion, juice in the water. I'm gonna put
- 13:20Speaker 2: this now in the hood. I'm not gonna say I'm
- 13:23Speaker 2: not from the hood, but I'm you know, I'm you
- 13:25Speaker 2: know than that. I wasn't rich, but we don't. We
- 13:28Speaker 2: normally didn't do this. But since it's here, speeds of
- 13:33Speaker 2: the process I heard, so we're gonna let that just
- 13:37Speaker 2: warm up and do his thing. The eggs are already boiled, so.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Do you peel and crack them up?
- 13:44Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, you know, let's peel them because what I
- 13:47Speaker 2: am going to do at some point I am going
- 13:50Speaker 2: to put them back in the pot. So you don't
- 13:53Speaker 2: do nothing on the show.
- 13:54Speaker 1: You pretty much, man.
- 13:56Speaker 2: It's a really hard ball. Wow, you hit that, Jane.
- 14:02Speaker 2: That's crazy, you.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Know, I like, literally, let them boil me. And this
- 14:06Speaker 3: girl was just joking. I was like, yo, let them
- 14:07Speaker 3: boils for a while. We boil them yesterday and just
- 14:09Speaker 3: put them in the fridge. You could probably throw you know,
- 14:13Speaker 3: look I'm helping out.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Look at this. Look at her. I can do this
- 14:16Speaker 1: one handed.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Look at her.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You know, if you boil it right, if it just
- 14:19Speaker 1: like slips right off.
- 14:21Speaker 2: That's good. Did you put any salt in the water
- 14:23Speaker 2: or nothing? You just threw them in the water. How
- 14:25Speaker 2: long you been cooking.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've been cooking. I cooked good.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Okay, But let's hear your story, missus. So did acting
- 14:32Speaker 3: come first or did comedy come first?
- 14:36Speaker 2: So a lot of people don't know because I am
- 14:38Speaker 2: known a lot more from my comedy. But I started
- 14:41Speaker 2: off as a dramatic actor for sure, got an NAACP
- 14:47Speaker 2: Theater Award. You know, you don't get that. I just
- 14:49Speaker 2: tell them all these jokes. You feel me. Idol was
- 14:54Speaker 2: Denzel Washington, So I was mimicking a lot of Denzel
- 14:57Speaker 2: performances for sure. And then when I moved to LA
- 15:03Speaker 2: I started to get more into you know, comedy and
- 15:05Speaker 2: stand up and I met up with my boy Brandon Brody,
- 15:08Speaker 2: hilarious guy.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But wait, before we get into you doing comedy, what
- 15:12Speaker 1: was your first like, what was that first intro to acting?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Like?
- 15:17Speaker 3: What was that first gig, like, tell me like the
- 15:20Speaker 3: lead up to it, that first big break.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so my first.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Doing this work for you?
- 15:27Speaker 2: I know, right, you better get it. So my first
- 15:31Speaker 2: acting gig man, I remember, actually my first acting in
- 15:36Speaker 2: general was an audition in high school and they said
- 15:41Speaker 2: do a cold reading for this audition and I didn't
- 15:43Speaker 2: really know what that was. That was my first time auditioning.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I think that was probably my first time auditioning ever.
- 15:49Speaker 2: And I didn't know what the cold for people don't
- 15:50Speaker 2: know what the cold reading is. You get the script
- 15:52Speaker 2: and you just got to go out there and you
- 15:54Speaker 2: have little time to memorize any lines. You go out
- 15:57Speaker 2: there and you just perform and act it out. You
- 15:59Speaker 2: can still have your script, but you just got to
- 16:01Speaker 2: kind of like real time. Yeah, And for me that's
- 16:04Speaker 2: always been a little hard, Like even to this day,
- 16:06Speaker 2: I like to memorize my stuff because I don't want
- 16:08Speaker 2: to be trying to filter my thoughts and read at
- 16:10Speaker 2: the same time, because I don't want to look like
- 16:12Speaker 2: I'm reading. So I didn't know, and he was. I
- 16:15Speaker 2: was like when I got on stage, I was like,
- 16:18Speaker 2: there's a director was like, all right, action, and I
- 16:20Speaker 2: was like, well, I didn't have enough time to mimigize
- 16:23Speaker 2: my lines and he's like, what the like next? Just
- 16:26Speaker 2: yell next? While I was on stage. That was my
- 16:28Speaker 2: first experience.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You were in high school.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I was in high school. That's crazy. I wish I
- 16:32Speaker 2: knew who that dude was now so I'm like, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 2: it's good, fam, Yeah remember you next me. But anyway,
- 16:38Speaker 2: and not holding graduatees, so as I progressed, I did
- 16:43Speaker 2: TV production in high school as well, and then I
- 16:47Speaker 2: didn't actually get my first speaking role or acting job
- 16:50Speaker 2: until I was I went to community college for like
- 16:52Speaker 2: a year PG community for like a year and a half,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and it's this play called Our Town or play how
- 16:59Speaker 2: We Knew the Milkman. It was I didn't have any lines.
- 17:04Speaker 3: And your family knew this whole time, and you knew
- 17:06Speaker 3: this whole time. That's what you wanted to do, yes, ma'am.
- 17:08Speaker 3: When did you know that you wanted to do it?
- 17:12Speaker 2: I think? And it was some time in high school,
- 17:16Speaker 2: like eleventh grade, near senior year, and they was like
- 17:20Speaker 2: you know that time when they're asking you what do
- 17:22Speaker 2: you want to do?
- 17:22Speaker 1: What do you want to do? What college do you
- 17:23Speaker 1: want to go to?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:24Speaker 2: What do you want to get?
- 17:25Speaker 1: A nine to five go to college.
- 17:28Speaker 2: The dreaming of it came like in middle school when
- 17:31Speaker 2: you see movies and like, oh, I want to do that.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I want to be a part of that. I want
- 17:34Speaker 2: to be in that world, but you don't really know
- 17:36Speaker 2: how to get into it. But around when twelfth grade
- 17:39Speaker 2: came to asked that question, I was like, yeah, it
- 17:41Speaker 2: was blurry, I really it was. I didn't it was
- 17:44Speaker 2: very far. I didn't have anything else I wanted to do,
- 17:46Speaker 2: but acting that's the only thing that stood out to me.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So after I graduated, I did Howard knew some in
- 17:54Speaker 2: our town, and you know, I had to be the
- 17:57Speaker 2: milkman in the place. But I do remember break. Before
- 18:00Speaker 2: I went on stage, I was thinking to myself, Oh,
- 18:05Speaker 2: it's the first time I ever acted. You know, you
- 18:08Speaker 2: had that moment. I was like, oh, wait, what what?
- 18:11Speaker 2: And then I went out there and did it. And
- 18:14Speaker 2: then after that I started pursuing acting. I got my
- 18:16Speaker 2: first manager, Linda Townsend and Maryland Uh. The same day
- 18:21Speaker 2: I got the call that I was getting signed for.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You worried about these I mean I heard smoke, no, no,
- 18:28Speaker 2: let me turn it down. That's you see, guys, bullet
- 18:31Speaker 2: you turn it down. You got a smoke detector.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, we just pray it never goes off.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna turn it down a little bit, you know,
- 18:37Speaker 2: turn it down, turn it down to about a three.
- 18:39Speaker 2: This is a fairly fast process. So yeah, I got
- 18:42Speaker 2: a manager same day I got that call. Uh, I
- 18:46Speaker 2: got a call from The Wire Productions HBO the Wire,
- 18:50Speaker 2: and they said, you just got booked to be a
- 18:54Speaker 2: background artist, featured background, so background is extra. But this
- 18:59Speaker 2: one was like.
- 19:00Speaker 1: How did you audition do You had to have auditioned
- 19:03Speaker 1: right for that?
- 19:04Speaker 2: No, So for that, like so to rewind, I was
- 19:06Speaker 2: getting my I just got my head shots. I made.
- 19:08Speaker 2: It was black and white back in the day. That's
- 19:10Speaker 2: how far back black and white. And I just did
- 19:13Speaker 2: a submission, mailed out a bunch of bones. Two different production.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Companies personally were doing that.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I was ahead.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Cryme and they called me back and I said, oh snaps.
- 19:25Speaker 2: So I was background on the Wire was a big deal.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Why is legendary?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 19:32Speaker 2: And I remember it on set and it's like I
- 19:33Speaker 2: was just like, oh snaps, Like I won set, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 2: and they having a little the guy. The thing that
- 19:40Speaker 2: shot up to me the most was the crafty people
- 19:44Speaker 2: don't know crafty and crafty is like the snacks and
- 19:47Speaker 2: stuff that they give to the actors. This lady came
- 19:51Speaker 2: out with cutting board with PB and J. No, this this,
- 19:56Speaker 2: this is what set it off for me because the
- 19:58Speaker 2: P B and J was it was it was on
- 20:01Speaker 2: potato bread, and from where I'm from, the upper echelon
- 20:04Speaker 2: of bread is potato bread. You make your PEPJ with
- 20:07Speaker 2: some potato bread. That's a new level of taste. And
- 20:10Speaker 2: the corners the crust was cut off. I'm oh, you know.
- 20:15Speaker 2: They had some tunic fish like that too, but I
- 20:17Speaker 2: was like, no, the people eja. So that was a
- 20:19Speaker 2: moment for me. So I said, I have to get
- 20:21Speaker 2: back on this show, you know. And I got on
- 20:24Speaker 2: the wire again, but it was background again, but it
- 20:28Speaker 2: was way further like a football field. I was like,
- 20:30Speaker 2: why y'all even need somebody back there, you know, But
- 20:34Speaker 2: that's just how it worked. So as I was getting
- 20:37Speaker 2: in the game with the management, I would go to
- 20:39Speaker 2: different auditions with the new manager and I ran into
- 20:43Speaker 2: he actually ended up being my future roommate in LA
- 20:46Speaker 2: one of my roommates, Dennis Hill, and he was like, yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 2: I take this workshop in Baltimore where they they filmed
- 20:53Speaker 2: in Baltimore. She's the casting assistant to the head casting
- 20:58Speaker 2: and on the show she said you should go. He
- 21:02Speaker 2: said you should go take it, you know, take her
- 21:04Speaker 2: class once a weekend or whatever. And I went to
- 21:07Speaker 2: go take it. I drove all the way down. It
- 21:09Speaker 2: was a forty five minute drive from where I lived,
- 21:11Speaker 2: and you know, I took the class. And she always said,
- 21:14Speaker 2: you know, I can get you in the door, you
- 21:15Speaker 2: gotta do the rest. And she actually got me an audition. Yeah,
- 21:20Speaker 2: so it was actually when I went in there, it
- 21:22Speaker 2: was my boy Dnnist and my other roommate I would
- 21:24Speaker 2: see on auditions running around. He actually beat me out.
- 21:27Speaker 2: My boy Mitch, he beat me out for a row.
- 21:30Speaker 2: This time we both were going for a drug dealer
- 21:33Speaker 2: and my other homeboy, Dennists he was going for a
- 21:35Speaker 2: cop a boy. Dennis, he booked the cop a detective
- 21:39Speaker 2: and I booked the drug dealer drug dealer, and I
- 21:43Speaker 2: beat my boy Mitch. My first speaking role that got
- 21:46Speaker 2: me qualified for the Union.
- 21:48Speaker 3: And who'd you call? Like, who'd you tell when that happened?
- 21:51Speaker 3: Like who was the first? Like, oh my god, mommy,
- 21:53Speaker 3: I married it I.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Called my parents, for sure, I called my parents, and
- 21:58Speaker 2: it was that was a beautiful thing because on the wire,
- 22:00Speaker 2: I remember, I told you I got excited about the
- 22:01Speaker 2: crafty and they had like a crafty truck. The first time,
- 22:05Speaker 2: I went like, oh, you can go to the crafty
- 22:06Speaker 2: truck and then you can just tell them whatever you want.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I want to be reading. What make it soundich And
- 22:10Speaker 2: I was like, oh the treatment that was like.
- 22:12Speaker 1: The next was the first time. Oh that was the
- 22:15Speaker 1: first time. Okay, you know, you just.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Had to wait till they escorted you over there. But
- 22:20Speaker 2: this time I came and I saw, you know, they
- 22:23Speaker 2: came to set and you know, I had a trailer.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Now had dealer and Johann Jones taped the trailer.
- 22:30Speaker 1: All taking pictures of it too. Back then they didn't
- 22:33Speaker 1: have did they have.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I think we had a phone. I mean you had
- 22:36Speaker 2: to be.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Bawling at the cell on the right, you know we
- 22:38Speaker 3: had we had it was a beepers back then, Beeples.
- 22:41Speaker 2: You ain't put me back that lone. Wait wait, whoa
- 22:43Speaker 2: whoa don't date me like that. She said, beepers. She
- 22:46Speaker 2: said the infamous B word, wow, beepers.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Even in the wire, they had beeper.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Was yeah, but that was written in the show. Okay,
- 22:55Speaker 2: but they had how.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Was that when the wire came out? I was still
- 23:00Speaker 1: pretty young.
- 23:00Speaker 2: The wire was out in shoot to two thousands.
- 23:10Speaker 1: It was two thousands. I was still in high school.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You try to get med ship bevers. So yeah, So
- 23:24Speaker 2: I get there and I walk on it inside the
- 23:28Speaker 2: trailer and then see they got the shoes laid out,
- 23:30Speaker 2: they got the outfite the first time I brought my
- 23:32Speaker 2: my own outfit. They got me clothes, got me wardrobe.
- 23:36Speaker 2: They even had me socks. I got super excited about
- 23:38Speaker 2: the socks.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I was like, hilarious.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And the shoes yeah, and I was like oh snap.
- 23:43Speaker 2: And then the PA came to the truck. He was like,
- 23:47Speaker 2: mister Jalon with you like anything, you're hungry, And I
- 23:50Speaker 2: was like, oh yeah, no, no, it's cool because the truck,
- 23:52Speaker 2: the trailer was right in front of the crafty truck.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I said, no, no, no, no, I see the trailer truck.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I know how to get to it, you know, so no, no, no, no, no,
- 23:59Speaker 2: we'll take your order. I said, you're thinking about I
- 24:06Speaker 2: don't feel that.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I would totally feel that. I don't feel exactly like, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 3: that's how I feel, you know what I'm.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Saying, And so then I do, and it was this
- 24:13Speaker 2: was another moment, you know, because I had never acted
- 24:16Speaker 2: on like a show this level, like a professional, like
- 24:21Speaker 2: a network show.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And how many seasons in were they at that point?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Season five?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so you was really in it? You feeling the.
- 24:28Speaker 2: First episode you know? So well? I was. I wasn't
- 24:32Speaker 2: necessarily feel feeling myself. I was like just like more
- 24:35Speaker 2: so like, oh, all right, it's the beginning. So I
- 24:39Speaker 2: remember it was like a half a circle and it's Marlow,
- 24:44Speaker 2: the main character. I'm here drug dealer. I'm like this
- 24:48Speaker 2: drug dealer that's you know, small and pop shop on
- 24:51Speaker 2: the block, and he brings me in and I'm coming
- 24:53Speaker 2: and you should probably use this clip as I'm talking
- 24:55Speaker 2: about it on the show. Yeah, YouTube find it. I
- 24:58Speaker 2: had long little two string twist. I was, man, I
- 25:01Speaker 2: like little B two K extra member back then anyway,
- 25:04Speaker 2: so able to line up all these shaved down and
- 25:07Speaker 2: everything like O Mario on it was like anyway, So yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 2: I walk down and it's a half a circle and
- 25:13Speaker 2: I'm talking straight tomorrow in my head, I'm like, oh, snaps,
- 25:18Speaker 2: because I have never been on a production this level.
- 25:21Speaker 2: So this other side, if to my right, my peripheral,
- 25:26Speaker 2: all I can see is like almost one hundred crew
- 25:30Speaker 2: members in equipment right there, and the reality, you know,
- 25:34Speaker 2: soaks into you, like, man, there's a lot of money
- 25:38Speaker 2: waiting on me to get these lines right, and you're
- 25:41Speaker 2: just thinking, like time is money, and they just looking
- 25:43Speaker 2: like all ain't in action, and you're like, so I
- 25:47Speaker 2: do my lines? I do. I do always deliver. I
- 25:49Speaker 2: definitely deliver. But it's like those moments. I've had a
- 25:52Speaker 2: few of those moments in my career throughout time where
- 25:54Speaker 2: it's like, man, you're here, you know. So that was
- 25:57Speaker 2: my first speaking role got me qualified for this, say Union,
- 26:01Speaker 2: you know, and I was ready to move because before
- 26:03Speaker 2: I was trying to move to l A.
- 26:04Speaker 1: So that one role got you qualified, yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Because the way it works with the Union, you got
- 26:09Speaker 2: to have three, uh set three background roles vouchers on
- 26:15Speaker 2: a SAG project. I already had one. I had two
- 26:18Speaker 2: or one speaking role.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Or or one on AAG project on the same project.
- 26:24Speaker 2: On a SAG project, and that automatically got me qualified
- 26:28Speaker 2: for that. So but I was before that, I was
- 26:31Speaker 2: calling l A trying to get agents and the sack
- 26:34Speaker 2: was like no, and they would hang up with me
- 26:37Speaker 2: straight up. Just LA agents was just brutal. They still
- 26:41Speaker 2: are h But yeah, So now I was ready to
- 26:55Speaker 2: save up my money and move to l A.
- 26:59Speaker 1: From the wire, you were you able to do that?
- 27:01Speaker 2: Well? I was able to go to LA. Now I
- 27:05Speaker 2: spent a few more years saving up some money. And
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'll be real because all the money's gone now. Back then,
- 27:11Speaker 2: but I saved about fifty thousand dollars almost fifty thousand. Yep.
- 27:14Speaker 2: That's not the norm.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But how are you able to do that off acting?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Well? I actually had a nice government job driving government
- 27:21Speaker 2: officials around.
- 27:23Speaker 1: What kind of job was that?
- 27:24Speaker 2: Just driving government officials around? Like Better's top secret, They're
- 27:27Speaker 2: driving to the Pentagon, driving to the White House, Andrew's
- 27:31Speaker 2: Air Force base. He's making like twenty five dollars an hour, okay,
- 27:35Speaker 2: and then on overtime maybe almost thirty thousands.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So you were doing that in Maryland while pursuing acting. Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and you had your agent? Yeah, manager, manager, I mean,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and so you don't have an agent. You're doing this
- 27:48Speaker 1: for a couple of years, then you finally say let's
- 27:52Speaker 1: go move on to La. Yeah, and now how hard
- 27:56Speaker 1: was it to quit that day job that was comfortable?
- 28:00Speaker 2: It was hard, but it wasn't hard because I had
- 28:02Speaker 2: already been. When you got a passion, you got a passion.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Plus I was young, and really young, like fresh out
- 28:08Speaker 2: of high school. So it's like I'm about to go.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Yeah, like I had been, sus you didn't have that
- 28:14Speaker 3: much overhead, I would imagine too. No, I was living
- 28:16Speaker 3: with my parents even when you were doing the driving.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I didn't move out of my house until
- 28:26Speaker 2: I moved to California, three thousand miles away from Maryland.
- 28:30Speaker 2: That was my first time living anywhere else.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Wow, and your parents, you come from a two parent household?
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, luckily so, I mean not luckily, but fortunately. So
- 28:41Speaker 2: it's like a unicorn to be, you know, raised in
- 28:44Speaker 2: the house with two parents.
- 28:46Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah that's good. They're still married still rock
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah good good. You have a crazy good, good foundation.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I got the pedigree.
- 28:54Speaker 3: So when they so when they when you moved, what
- 28:57Speaker 3: were your parents were? They all one hundred percent in
- 28:59Speaker 3: where they nervous so they knew you had a nice
- 29:01Speaker 3: cushion and you were.
- 29:03Speaker 2: They never shot I never really told my parents how
- 29:07Speaker 2: much I say that they knew I was making money.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I actually got my mom in that building too, she
- 29:13Speaker 2: still did making good old money. I got a few
- 29:15Speaker 2: people in there making money.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Actually it was a great place to be, into that
- 29:20Speaker 1: office to government building.
- 29:22Speaker 2: But yeah, they knew I was always pursuing it. Like
- 29:25Speaker 2: I said in school, and I would take the Chinatown
- 29:31Speaker 2: bus from DC to New York just to take acting
- 29:34Speaker 2: classes and never been in New York, don't have any
- 29:36Speaker 2: family or whatever, so they kind of knew the energy
- 29:39Speaker 2: was there. It was always safer because I was still close. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 2: you know, it's different when you move across the country.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I was just talking about this today. My father, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 2: had tears when he saw me off to California and stuff.
- 29:53Speaker 2: He ain't really a crier. So you know my mom
- 29:55Speaker 2: didn't cry all. She just ain't no cry. She just
- 29:57Speaker 2: is tough from d C. She real hood, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 2: still to today. I'm trying to find catch your crying.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Like I'm just about to just like poker and to
- 30:05Speaker 2: see if I can gotch you.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Why don't you do your fake onion cut. It ain't
- 30:09Speaker 1: gonna work on her, Yeah, it probably wouldn't.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Probably this how much. This is how serious I was
- 30:15Speaker 2: trying to catch my mama crying at my grandmother's funeral.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Her mother, Oh my gosh, No ways, she had these
- 30:23Speaker 2: big old glasses on, right, the big Mary j I
- 30:26Speaker 2: just got a black eye glasses on. And you know,
- 30:30Speaker 2: I'm crying. In the midst of my cry, I look
- 30:33Speaker 2: over to try to see if she doing and and
- 30:36Speaker 2: all I could see was just a white She did
- 30:38Speaker 2: the white. Oh so she did cry, but the white
- 30:41Speaker 2: was dry as hell, like no way, it wouldn't know.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It was just a dry ass white. And I'm like, yo,
- 30:49Speaker 2: is she wiping dry tears like I still? And that
- 30:52Speaker 2: was the only time I think I would have caught her.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Did you ever ask your dad if he ever seen
- 30:55Speaker 1: her cry?
- 30:56Speaker 2: I haven't asked her, and I bet he hasn't, because
- 30:59Speaker 2: my mama, she's a little hardcore woman, like she's just
- 31:02Speaker 2: going she loveing, never cried. It's gonna come out in aggression,
- 31:07Speaker 2: her pain gonna come out.
- 31:08Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Got her mouth on her. I love it though, I
- 31:11Speaker 2: love you, mommy. When she watched this, because she's gonna
- 31:14Speaker 2: watch it.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Oh real.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I actually talked about her on stage too.
- 31:18Speaker 1: That's good, good, old mama jokes, I gotta catch you.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so you're yeah, it's I don't know if this
- 31:24Speaker 3: is this looks like it's gonna be oily water.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Boy, she's a hat already. Okay, okay, so look at that.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I look nice. You see that. If they had a camera,
- 31:33Speaker 2: you can see a two dollion.
- 31:34Speaker 1: We used to have an overhead camera. Everyone's asking to
- 31:37Speaker 1: bring it back.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Why would you have a cookie show up?
- 31:39Speaker 1: All right, go ahead, go ahead, Let's see how.
- 31:41Speaker 2: How many episodes we end overhead?
- 31:45Speaker 1: Definitely at one hundred episodes.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I think, oh, she looks you see So look, guys,
- 31:50Speaker 2: maybe you can zoom in or whatever. You see how
- 31:52Speaker 2: the onions are almost crystally clear. Hen kind of sees.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Is that what you're looking for when you boil them?
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that means they're soft, Oh my god, wealthy. So
- 32:01Speaker 2: now you know you can read the instructions. They say
- 32:04Speaker 2: you only keep the news in there for about and
- 32:06Speaker 2: I washed my hands.
- 32:08Speaker 1: They keep We have sanitizer right there just in case.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Who does that? Who licks their fingers and licks off sanitizer?
- 32:16Speaker 2: You do that?
- 32:16Speaker 3: By the way, one of my favorite dishes on this
- 32:18Speaker 3: show is a ramen dish. So you are going up
- 32:22Speaker 3: against a really great Raman dish and it was another comic.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Okay, they made a bomb ram.
- 32:39Speaker 3: No, they made a Ramen that was top top, it
- 32:43Speaker 3: was no, you know what they did it. I'm not
- 32:45Speaker 3: going to tell you to after I rate your dish.
- 32:47Speaker 3: So there's two Ramins that are my top favorite romans
- 32:50Speaker 3: that have been on the show. We actually don't allow
- 32:52Speaker 3: people to make ramen really on the show. I just
- 32:54Speaker 3: didn't want to go.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Back because because because they're somebody had already did it, well,
- 32:58Speaker 2: we just don't.
- 33:00Speaker 3: We don't add Ramin unless someone has tweaked it to
- 33:02Speaker 3: a certain point. But not because I really wanted you
- 33:08Speaker 3: on the show, and I didn't want to push my
- 33:10Speaker 3: little envelope because when I called you, you were so busy.
- 33:12Speaker 3: You were like, I'm doing this, this, this is this,
- 33:14Speaker 3: and I was like, please, God, just just give me.
- 33:17Speaker 2: He's the victim now, Oh my god. You know I'm
- 33:19Speaker 2: not gonna give them if I changed the meal, turn tweet,
- 33:23Speaker 2: y'all see these guys. That's crazy.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Anyway, So back to your story. You come to l A.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Your mom's not a crier, and what's the first play.
- 33:33Speaker 2: In LA You know, it's funny because I could have
- 33:36Speaker 2: used this other meal, but I felt like it wasn't.
- 33:39Speaker 2: It wasn't. It was it's just too easy. But I
- 33:42Speaker 2: do remember, because you know, when you live with your
- 33:45Speaker 2: parents and your parents cooking for you and stuff, you
- 33:48Speaker 2: don't realize that that's a luxury until you get out
- 33:53Speaker 2: on your own. So I remember like getting to my apartment,
- 33:59Speaker 2: which now my boy Mitchell, he's the one who told me,
- 34:02Speaker 2: but I told you about it was beat. I beat
- 34:04Speaker 2: an audition he had already.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I'm going to like make a snippet and just make
- 34:09Speaker 3: sure that we find Mitchell and just would just have
- 34:11Speaker 3: it on replay like a record.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You know, Mitch, the one that I passed, the one
- 34:15Speaker 1: that I beat on the audition.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he know what it is anyway. So but privately
- 34:20Speaker 2: to me moving out to LA, he was already out there,
- 34:23Speaker 2: so he was like, yo, we got another bit. We
- 34:24Speaker 2: had a full bed room apartment. You want to come
- 34:26Speaker 2: out here. I'm not ready yet. I need to save
- 34:28Speaker 2: up some more money. But he saved that room. So
- 34:30Speaker 2: I finally got to LA.
- 34:31Speaker 1: You didn't think forty five thousand was enough. You had
- 34:34Speaker 1: to hit the fifty thousand.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Man, okay, I respect it.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I respect it.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Okay, it's all gone down.
- 34:40Speaker 1: You and me likes that.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah you. So I got there and I was like, man,
- 34:47Speaker 2: that's crazy. It's my first meal. I had a can
- 34:50Speaker 2: of ravioli, so lasagna came. I like that.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I used to love.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. I still love raviol until
- 35:00Speaker 3: I had it on eating while broke, and I was like,
- 35:02Speaker 3: I can't believe I used to like this. I used
- 35:04Speaker 3: to love that stuff.
- 35:05Speaker 2: How'd you make it? Did you put anything in it?
- 35:07Speaker 2: I don't something.
- 35:09Speaker 1: No, I don't think he did anything.
- 35:11Speaker 3: But it just if you tried some of those can
- 35:14Speaker 3: First of all, I'm the I'm the person getting cooked
- 35:16Speaker 3: for Okay, I'm over here peeling eggs for you.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Look at your egg. Your egg looked like someone attacked
- 35:23Speaker 1: it from the side.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Hey. Well anyway.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:27Speaker 2: So I get to la and it's that realization moment, like, oh,
- 35:36Speaker 2: I'm cooking for myself. Well, welcome to adulthood. So yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 2: I made that. You know, it was a good meal.
- 35:45Speaker 2: But it was like, oh man, I'm here. I just
- 35:48Speaker 2: officially made my first meal for myself.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Wow, your mom really took care of you.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, but I made meals for myself at home too,
- 35:57Speaker 2: but it was like your first official on your own. Yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 2: it's like that feeling like if you don't cook tonight,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you ain't gonna eat and what you got, you know,
- 36:07Speaker 2: that was that moment, you know, and then from there
- 36:10Speaker 2: we went up. So that was so as I got
- 36:13Speaker 2: to LA, I got the grind on, I got more
- 36:15Speaker 2: head shots. I had cut my hair off to a
- 36:19Speaker 2: low cut, and I submitted all these head shots and
- 36:23Speaker 2: mass meling.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Had help that you have roommates that were like pursuing
- 36:28Speaker 1: the same industry.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Yes, to know as far as knowledge of what we
- 36:31Speaker 2: should be doing, but you know, they can't help us
- 36:35Speaker 2: get in the room. Yeah. I remember my first experience.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I would literally go to some of these casts and
- 36:41Speaker 2: offices and drop it off just so I can know
- 36:43Speaker 2: that it made it. William Shagner Shackner, you know, Captain
- 36:50Speaker 2: Kirk star Trek. Yeah, yeah, are you sure?
- 36:54Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 36:54Speaker 2: Yeah, She's like yeah, so yeah he I remember I
- 37:00Speaker 2: saw him in an office. He was on the phone
- 37:03Speaker 2: having a little business and I'm thinking it had almost
- 37:06Speaker 2: a similar address as the casting office. I think it
- 37:09Speaker 2: was just connected. It was like one of those double addresses.
- 37:12Speaker 2: So I go on there and I opened the door
- 37:15Speaker 2: while he's on the phone, and I'm being respectful because
- 37:18Speaker 2: I'm not going to talk, so I signed language everything.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I'm like, hit shots. I'm basically saying hit shots here,
- 37:26Speaker 2: and he was like, I was like, oh okay. So
- 37:30Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, the dropbox is probably you know, on
- 37:32Speaker 2: the side. So I'm walking walking and walking outside and
- 37:36Speaker 2: I walked to the ventur Boulevard and I look around
- 37:39Speaker 2: back and forth, and I was like, oh this mother.
- 37:43Speaker 2: He pointed me to the highway. I hit Captain Kirk. Now,
- 37:50Speaker 2: hold up my first, that's hilarious experience, Captain Kirk. Let
- 37:55Speaker 2: me check these.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I thought you really.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I thought he really pointed you in the right direction
- 38:00Speaker 3: the way you told it. Those are gonna be some
- 38:04Speaker 3: salt noodles.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Boy, you like him hard or so?
- 38:06Speaker 1: I like them kind of hard. When I was younger,
- 38:08Speaker 1: I like them soft.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Was you gonna leave it in for like a minute longer? Okay,
- 38:13Speaker 2: just to kind of I just wanted to break it
- 38:14Speaker 2: up a little bit. But it's actually still a little
- 38:16Speaker 2: hard in there for you. Okay, Okay, As a matter
- 38:18Speaker 2: of fact, let me just want these eggs while we're
- 38:21Speaker 2: in here, because you got these cold eggs. They supposed
- 38:24Speaker 2: to be fresh. You know what I'm saying.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Boom, that's how you put them in there?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Well, just I didn't.
- 38:30Speaker 3: I don't know what to expect and where do you
- 38:32Speaker 3: put the butter? Okay, I'm gonna stay out the kitchen.
- 38:34Speaker 3: I want to hear this story.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 38:37Speaker 3: So, so you're taking your you're taking control of the wheel.
- 38:41Speaker 3: You're over here pitching yourself to all these casting agencies.
- 38:45Speaker 3: What's the next big play?
- 38:47Speaker 2: So I started getting a couple of plays. Uh, screenwriter
- 38:52Speaker 2: don Bie Welch. He was really, you know, really hot
- 38:54Speaker 2: in the city, like long lines of auditions for actors
- 38:58Speaker 2: trying to get in this place. And I ended up
- 39:00Speaker 2: getting in an audition and booking a play. And I
- 39:05Speaker 2: started doing a couple of plays with him and building
- 39:08Speaker 2: up my name in the city and his productions, and
- 39:12Speaker 2: you know, I got me an agent as well out
- 39:14Speaker 2: here in La started auditioning and stuff. So I was
- 39:18Speaker 2: in the game, in the mix of everything.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Did you need a day job during this whole thing
- 39:22Speaker 1: or were you just like doing savings?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Well no, actually I got my first job out here
- 39:28Speaker 2: at Ikea.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Oh, the way you let it up.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Okay, and I got fired from IKEA. I think I
- 39:37Speaker 2: was late or something whatever, but I ended up claiming unemployment.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Oh that's awesome. So then you were able to like
- 39:44Speaker 3: pursue your dreams for at least another year, right.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I ended up claiming in California and Virginia because I
- 39:49Speaker 2: was fresh. So and then the raid around Obama time too,
- 39:54Speaker 2: so he was passing all those nice checks. I was
- 39:56Speaker 2: getting like every other week now fifty dollars.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Oh wow, I like.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I love you, Obama, we miss you. And rent was
- 40:07Speaker 2: only because it was cheaper than so rent. Rent was
- 40:11Speaker 2: only four hundred and sixty five each for us, and
- 40:15Speaker 2: my car was already paid off. I shipped it out here. Okay.
- 40:18Speaker 3: So you were doing okay, and you're just pursuing your dreams,
- 40:21Speaker 3: going staying focused. At what point do you decide you
- 40:25Speaker 3: want to get behind the wheel in production and writing
- 40:29Speaker 3: or does comedy come before that.
- 40:31Speaker 1: I don't want to skip a milestone.
- 40:34Speaker 2: So comedy always came natural to me. It was in
- 40:36Speaker 2: my family. You know, a lot of my friends growing up.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I feel like any of my friends, if they got
- 40:41Speaker 2: serious about it, they could have been in this business
- 40:43Speaker 2: as well. But I remember I think I got called
- 40:48Speaker 2: to do something. When digital platforms start becoming any thing
- 40:51Speaker 2: I'm a lower is just little. It started to become
- 40:54Speaker 2: a thing. Well, I am had started a digital company,
- 40:59Speaker 2: and this young lady was like, hey, how about you
- 41:02Speaker 2: right four characters up like in living color style, and
- 41:05Speaker 2: we can try to figure out how to shoot them.
- 41:08Speaker 2: They never happened. So I ended up saying, look, I'm
- 41:11Speaker 2: gonna shoot my own thing. And right around the time
- 41:13Speaker 2: when YouTube is becoming a thing and I'm gonna go.
- 41:16Speaker 2: And when I went home, I shot about two episodes,
- 41:22Speaker 2: two characters of it getting in Lester and I think
- 41:26Speaker 2: mister and missus s is something and I shot them
- 41:31Speaker 2: and that was the beginning of the Jahan jones Is Show,
- 41:34Speaker 2: which is kind of like Dave Chappelle meets him living
- 41:38Speaker 2: color type energy. And then I came back out here
- 41:42Speaker 2: and I shot all of the episodes. Grand Master Sugar like.
- 41:45Speaker 1: That, why do you say you came back out here?
- 41:48Speaker 1: Where'd you shoot it?
- 41:48Speaker 2: Because I was okay, I went back home. So one
- 41:51Speaker 2: of the times when I went home for the holidays,
- 41:53Speaker 2: I said, I'm gonnaknock this out because I had more
- 41:55Speaker 2: resources to my homeboy Adam. He shot ok, so you know,
- 42:01Speaker 2: I had just had more resources, and I think I
- 42:03Speaker 2: didn't even shoot at him. I think somebody else was
- 42:05Speaker 2: always facebooking me and like you shoot you know, you
- 42:09Speaker 2: shoot us. So somehow I got my hands with some
- 42:12Speaker 2: cameras and I shot those two episodes the beginning, and
- 42:15Speaker 2: then I came back to LA and finished about another
- 42:19Speaker 2: eight or six episodes. Grandmaster Sugar. He's a funny character.
- 42:24Speaker 2: I think I need to bring back, and a few
- 42:26Speaker 2: other characters, Juicy Larry to Jerry Carroll, a lot of stuff.
- 42:31Speaker 2: And I created that show and I put it out
- 42:35Speaker 2: and I ain't getting no views. That was my first time,
- 42:37Speaker 2: but I felt like it was crazy because it was
- 42:39Speaker 2: before like viral shit. So I would like Facebook everybody
- 42:43Speaker 2: and DM everybody on Twitter, and I got like a
- 42:46Speaker 2: thousand views. Oh my god, a thousand people saw my
- 42:48Speaker 2: video and that was a win for me. Yeah you
- 42:52Speaker 2: ready for me to for you up?
- 42:53Speaker 1: I'm ready?
- 42:54Speaker 2: She hungry, y'all? Yeah him, get your bowl over there,
- 42:58Speaker 2: because she hung.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, are you gonna put the butter in it?
- 43:05Speaker 2: She's hungry? Forget this project. I just I don't.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I'm trying to see it. Yeah, I'm just trying to
- 43:09Speaker 1: see when you put them all in there, can I stand? Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 1: go ahead do it.
- 43:15Speaker 3: We're gonna starve to death. It's gonna be mush noodles.
- 43:19Speaker 3: We don't need teeth for Jahan's noodles.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yeah you don't.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I assure you this.
- 43:24Speaker 3: They look like straight barely noodles. Could be mashed potatoes,
- 43:29Speaker 3: like eat.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Paper for noodles. It's cool. Yeah, that's her.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I went to Japan and I had their ramen. By
- 43:37Speaker 1: the way, how hard was it? It was pretty good. Yeah,
- 43:41Speaker 1: I just don't like noodles. I'm probably saying it wrong.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Let's just forget it because I'm probably saying it wrong.
- 43:50Speaker 2: What's it tastes like? Why didn't you like it?
- 43:51Speaker 1: It's just like that thicker noodle.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeah it was a softer heart.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Probably hard, but I like the ramen. I like the
- 43:58Speaker 1: ramen in Japan.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna get you some onions because you know
- 44:02Speaker 2: I talked very horridly about these onions. Look at the
- 44:04Speaker 2: ice crystal in them onions? This crystally Yeah, yes, she's
- 44:11Speaker 2: about to love this.
- 44:13Speaker 1: So when does your your YouTube start taking off?
- 44:17Speaker 4: So?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Like, how many years did it take.
- 44:20Speaker 2: So the YouTube actually it started, it didn't really start
- 44:24Speaker 2: off on its own. I had left YouTube for a
- 44:28Speaker 2: while and did more of the stuff on social media
- 44:32Speaker 2: because what had happened was I had did the Johann
- 44:36Speaker 2: jones Is Show and had it, and now Marlon wins
- 44:40Speaker 2: was creating something called what the Funny was another digital company,
- 44:44Speaker 2: and he was like, you know, I felt like I
- 44:47Speaker 2: wanted to give you little juice juice. Need to keep
- 44:53Speaker 2: the juice.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Buy you put no seasoning package. I'm trying. I'm trying
- 44:56Speaker 1: to focus, all right, your focus.
- 44:59Speaker 2: So I knew that, hey Marlon got like ten every
- 45:05Speaker 2: every every comic, and you know.
- 45:08Speaker 1: There's other utensils along the side right over here struggling
- 45:11Speaker 1: with Now.
- 45:12Speaker 2: That's how you get in the hood. You ain't got
- 45:13Speaker 2: other you ain't got when you broke. You don't have
- 45:15Speaker 2: all this used what you got.
- 45:17Speaker 1: You know that egg look tore up. You could. You're
- 45:20Speaker 1: gonna know you were the one that.
- 45:22Speaker 2: That ap peeled it. Now you cooked that one.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, continue you continue. Wait, you weren't hypeding
- 45:27Speaker 1: you end up working with Marlon Wayne's.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I was a super hype So I was like, okay,
- 45:32Speaker 2: let's add some butter for her, since you want to
- 45:34Speaker 2: be buttered in cholesteroled out. So I was like, man,
- 45:38Speaker 2: how I'm much stand out because every black comic in
- 45:42Speaker 2: la is gonna be trying to get in this and
- 45:44Speaker 2: also he has like thirty siblings that's going he's gonna
- 45:47Speaker 2: put on, So how do I stand out? So it
- 45:51Speaker 2: was like, okay, Vine, Remember.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I remember Vine. Vine helped a lot of people's careers
- 45:56Speaker 1: the first TikTok.
- 45:58Speaker 2: So basically I was like, man, there's an app called Vine,
- 46:03Speaker 2: and nobody is like paying attention, used a little bit
- 46:08Speaker 2: more better paying attention to this app, Like we're really
- 46:14Speaker 2: focused on these longer vert videos and this is the
- 46:17Speaker 2: fastest meaning of growing a meaning, means of growing a following,
- 46:21Speaker 2: and nobody's doing it. So I said, let me put
- 46:23Speaker 2: together a Vine group just for What the Funny, not
- 46:28Speaker 2: even taking care of myself, and we brought them from
- 46:32Speaker 2: like one hundred thousand to No. No. A thousand to
- 46:36Speaker 2: one hundred thousand in less than six months.
- 46:39Speaker 1: A thousand to one hundred thousand on What the Funny,
- 46:43Speaker 1: on What the Funny's account, which was the Marlon Wayne's account, which.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Was Yeah, which was his company. Now vine ended up
- 46:52Speaker 2: going down because all the big guys you know, said
- 46:56Speaker 2: they didn't want to do it anymore because they weren't
- 46:58Speaker 2: getting paid. So it's blackadd in black pepper guys. And
- 47:04Speaker 2: I knew all these guys too, you know. I remember
- 47:07Speaker 2: I did my first stand up show with uh Andrew
- 47:11Speaker 2: Bachelor aka King Batch, and I remember him hit calling
- 47:14Speaker 2: me up for his first million followers, like he would
- 47:17Speaker 2: invite me all the time to do vines. You're like, yeah,
- 47:18Speaker 2: I got my first million followers. Come to my bowling party.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I got like fifty million followers now. But I was like, man,
- 47:24Speaker 2: I'm doing plays and I got awards and stuff in movies,
- 47:28Speaker 2: like you know, I had did a couple of crash
- 47:30Speaker 2: I was in this movie called Starving Games that was
- 47:32Speaker 2: in theaters that was a spooful on Hunger Games. So
- 47:37Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, there's this six second app this. Yeah.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Then I realized, like a year go by, I'm driving
- 47:44Speaker 2: party bus. It's part time only on the weekends. I'm like, man,
- 47:50Speaker 2: all my peers is quite a few people have gotten
- 47:53Speaker 2: famous in all these brand deals and almost millionaires in
- 47:56Speaker 2: a year, and here I am a year round and
- 47:59Speaker 2: I'm still on this party bus. And I was like, man,
- 48:01Speaker 2: it ain't because like, these cats are more talented than me,
- 48:04Speaker 2: talented than me. They were just outworking me a lot. Yeah.
- 48:07Speaker 2: I was doing spoof and posted on YouTube once a week,
- 48:10Speaker 2: and these dudes were doing new videos, new content.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Yea, they were so I know that squad and they
- 48:16Speaker 3: are they were beasts. They would meet up on the weekends,
- 48:19Speaker 3: they would you know, figure out their whole strategy and
- 48:23Speaker 3: they would all get together and just tape every freaking day.
- 48:26Speaker 2: And back then, we couldn't save to a camera roll
- 48:29Speaker 2: until like maybe six months later, so you literally had
- 48:33Speaker 2: to shoot your video six second video, edit it, and
- 48:37Speaker 2: post it. So there was no like, oh, we're going
- 48:39Speaker 2: to have a day like. So they were really working. Yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 2: So I decided, hey, I'm about to get into it.
- 48:45Speaker 2: But by that time I had start working with Russell
- 48:48Speaker 2: Simmons his company All Deaf Digital, And because the same
- 48:53Speaker 2: young lady Ashley who got me at What the Funny,
- 48:58Speaker 2: she started working with All def Dish and she said, hey,
- 49:00Speaker 2: we're looking for creators over here, YadA YadA, And I
- 49:03Speaker 2: almost made the same decision because I neglected my Vine
- 49:06Speaker 2: account and only focused on what the Funny account, I'm
- 49:10Speaker 2: adding this to a packet. Some people say you shouldn't
- 49:13Speaker 2: this too, mussodium, don't add the whole packet, But you broke.
- 49:19Speaker 2: You want all the season you can get, so you
- 49:21Speaker 2: just add what's in the pack So just sticking to
- 49:24Speaker 2: what it is I can get this guts you on
- 49:28Speaker 2: your crystal.
- 49:29Speaker 3: So you end up you almost make the same mistake
- 49:32Speaker 3: that you did with what the Funny with Russell? But
- 49:35Speaker 3: what what was the thing that said now, I'm not
- 49:37Speaker 3: about to do this a second time.
- 49:39Speaker 2: So they finally add more seconds fifteen seconds to Instagram.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and they will pull Instagram with smart because
- 49:47Speaker 2: they were pulling all of the creators over from Instagram,
- 49:51Speaker 2: I mean from Vine to Instagram. Oh we're gonna come
- 49:53Speaker 2: over here, guys, and we're gonna get you more.
- 49:56Speaker 1: And they needed it, they really, I mean the the
- 50:00Speaker 1: the influencers needed.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they needed And it was the beginning of
- 50:03Speaker 2: you know, it was the beginning of Instagram and you
- 50:07Speaker 2: know Vine in the vine and vine Vine created what
- 50:13Speaker 2: we call the influencer. Yeah, you had a couple of
- 50:15Speaker 2: cats on YouTube doing their thing like the storm is
- 50:18Speaker 2: doing his thing. Tim de La Ghetto was doing his
- 50:20Speaker 2: thing a couple of guys.
- 50:22Speaker 1: But who's wrong and you're going up against by the way.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Tim, Yeah, that's so cheat. He's Asian. Yeah that's all
- 50:32Speaker 2: they ate growing up, is that racis. But oh yeah,
- 50:39Speaker 2: you can't you cool with my boy? So yeah, that
- 50:42Speaker 2: was the situation with that. But I said, you know what, now,
- 50:47Speaker 2: I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna focus on myself.
- 50:49Speaker 2: So I was about to put together an Instagram group
- 50:52Speaker 2: for all that digital. I said, nah, I had did
- 50:55Speaker 2: a few videos. I said, na, I'm gonna focus more.
- 50:59Speaker 2: So I said, a video every day until I get
- 51:02Speaker 2: a million followers. In less than a year, I got
- 51:06Speaker 2: a million follows on Instagram. Yeah, and that's the way
- 51:10Speaker 2: the history is made. That's when I my realm of
- 51:15Speaker 2: social media came. I was like, I consider myself the
- 51:18Speaker 2: second wave, you know what I mean of influencer. But
- 51:22Speaker 2: I'm also you know, I started off as an actor,
- 51:24Speaker 2: so I have that background of that as well.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And how are you handling putting out that much content?
- 51:32Speaker 2: Man? Because at this point I just treated everything like
- 51:35Speaker 2: a work system. I was able to you know, we
- 51:39Speaker 2: could have camero save stuff. So I'll just have shooting days.
- 51:42Speaker 2: So my day typically was every Thursday, I would get together,
- 51:48Speaker 2: call some actors up and you know, meeting my boy
- 51:51Speaker 2: Terrence aka Terrence Green aka Ross Swagger, meet up his
- 51:54Speaker 2: apartment and we knock out three four videos a day
- 51:58Speaker 2: and eventually we went up ended up going into my
- 52:00Speaker 2: other boy house, Kenny. He had a whole house, and
- 52:03Speaker 2: we just start shooting there. They start calling the sketch house.
- 52:06Speaker 2: And man, these things will get big too. Man, you
- 52:08Speaker 2: have like you know, because it's becoming thing, like people
- 52:11Speaker 2: know we were shooting like, uh, soy sauce, don't add
- 52:17Speaker 2: too much because this is very soft.
- 52:19Speaker 3: It's so funny because watching you make this, like you
- 52:21Speaker 3: look like you really know what you're doing, Like you
- 52:24Speaker 3: you don't perfected this ramen.
- 52:26Speaker 2: You don't want to add too much because you you know,
- 52:28Speaker 2: you already got the SODI minutes. You just get a
- 52:31Speaker 2: few dads. You know, we don't like salty food around here.
- 52:35Speaker 2: You feel me family, So yeah, I started, Uh what
- 52:50Speaker 2: was I saying?
- 52:52Speaker 3: You start you end up at the house where you're
- 52:55Speaker 3: starting banging out. I'm guessing a kazillion.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and then people was coming, man, people coming in
- 53:00Speaker 2: like a party, Like I remember one time it would
- 53:02Speaker 2: get so crazy because you had all the people, Like
- 53:04Speaker 2: I started bringing all my cats that actually shot what
- 53:08Speaker 2: they were comedians, you know what I mean, Because a
- 53:10Speaker 2: lot of influencers were just like influencers that picked up
- 53:14Speaker 2: people that picked up the phone and started getting consistent.
- 53:16Speaker 2: But I wanted to bring in some like real like
- 53:19Speaker 2: people that been in the game, so I you know,
- 53:21Speaker 2: I like, I know I was with me doing the
- 53:23Speaker 2: stand up. I'm bringing like Tony Baker, Clayton Thomas, bt Kens,
- 53:30Speaker 2: League Ron g like these all my guys I'm bringing
- 53:34Speaker 2: into my world because I you know, I'm looking out
- 53:36Speaker 2: because I got my stuff going because I when I
- 53:38Speaker 2: got into the game, my boy King Keron, he looked
- 53:41Speaker 2: out for me a lot, just kind of like I
- 53:43Speaker 2: never was a person that felt like, oh I gotta
- 53:46Speaker 2: be worried about somebody taking my shine, like I'm always
- 53:49Speaker 2: going to share. So I had to dad On beg
- 53:53Speaker 2: Clayton to shoot the videos. Clayton Thomas, he was like, man,
- 53:57Speaker 2: ain't doing it. Ain't doing it. Ain't doing it. And
- 53:59Speaker 2: I had for like almost a year. I'm like, oh man,
- 54:01Speaker 2: it's his wave is the way when he finally came
- 54:03Speaker 2: through and he's killing now, he's my boy, big job.
- 54:08Speaker 2: You know, he's killing in the game.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Yeah, try that, Try the way you do it, make
- 54:18Speaker 1: that sound, she said, I can't, so.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah, oh it's the time. Sure this in a while.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Hold on, we get everything. Not normally like to ask
- 54:29Speaker 2: a little bit of garlic powder too. But you know
- 54:30Speaker 2: I forgot you did not put it.
- 54:32Speaker 1: You did not put want because he was.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I did forget that good and I had the
- 54:37Speaker 2: list of butter.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Gonna double check that.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Okay, make sure you're getting more nice and deep in
- 54:42Speaker 2: the in the in the juices though, you know, go
- 54:44Speaker 2: down in the juices though, you know, yeah, you try
- 54:46Speaker 2: to get some onion on it too, and get you
- 54:47Speaker 2: some crystal onions.
- 54:48Speaker 1: The story is sounding like it's about to get good.
- 54:51Speaker 1: All right, try it.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Chairs gonna say your blessing little bit, thank for this
- 54:55Speaker 2: male price is healthy and blessing and blows them ound
- 54:57Speaker 2: away and beat tams a little punk little dish, you
- 55:00Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. The rud noodles, and it's hot
- 55:03Speaker 2: and tasty. She got choked. She got chokes.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Let me just tell you something. And there was like
- 55:21Speaker 1: all the Ramins on the show.
- 55:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you the order Tims, then Bone Thugs,
- 55:29Speaker 3: then Ashley Everett. Yours would be like the absolute last
- 55:34Speaker 3: Ramen of all time. It's because you overcook the noodles.
- 55:38Speaker 3: You put way too many onions.
- 55:40Speaker 2: She worried about these these go to the box.
- 55:45Speaker 1: You won't even see me to watch me small.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Go to the bottle. You don't need it. Chew, you
- 55:49Speaker 2: don't need a chew. Them soft the better.
- 55:54Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, he's a salty. Give me the soy sauce.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Maybe it'll help you.
- 56:00Speaker 2: You want some more sauce.
- 56:01Speaker 1: He put so much uh rawm and seasoning in it, so.
- 56:05Speaker 2: You're saying it salty.
- 56:08Speaker 1: This is like mush.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Look, I'm telling you you master egg in it. Oh,
- 56:14Speaker 2: I ain't even try to take to try the egg.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Try.
- 56:17Speaker 1: But now, let me just tell you something. You wouldn't
- 56:19Speaker 1: compete against nobody's drama.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Hold on, let me see, let me try to old.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Let me try this little egg that you try to cook.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Not your head, No, that's your head.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I think it's just too much onion. It's been boiled
- 56:40Speaker 1: too long.
- 56:42Speaker 2: Onions are the key guys. Onions a key life.
- 56:45Speaker 1: There's a reason why you ain't had this dish in
- 56:47Speaker 1: a long time. Hold on, my goodness, you have like
- 56:54Speaker 1: a stroke from this dish.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Stroke. You just added more soy sauce.
- 57:00Speaker 1: You're adding more salt and so salty. I think I'm
- 57:03Speaker 1: only going.
- 57:03Speaker 3: In for more. Why'd you add soy saut the salty
- 57:06Speaker 3: because I was hoping it would drawing out the salt.
- 57:09Speaker 1: I didn't know soy sauce was that salty on its own.
- 57:12Speaker 2: So guys, you try to just and y'all tell us
- 57:16Speaker 2: in the comments. Is it is it? Is it not?
- 57:20Speaker 2: Or is it?
- 57:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest. It would have been great if
- 57:23Speaker 1: you added less of that seasoning packet.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Really, there's so much noodle though? Does it does?
- 57:29Speaker 1: Does it bring you back? Do you feel like you're
- 57:30Speaker 1: reminiscent now?
- 57:35Speaker 2: Kind of? Is it? M hm? I ain't gonna hold you.
- 57:40Speaker 2: It's not that bad. Had a little bit more, God,
- 57:42Speaker 2: but it's all preference. She likes your noodles like paper noodles.
- 57:47Speaker 3: And it didn't have to be this soft like do
- 57:49Speaker 3: you guys see me? Like I literally just put my
- 57:52Speaker 3: tongue to the roof and just mashed it. I could
- 57:55Speaker 3: have swallowed it.
- 57:56Speaker 2: I don't like hard noodles because it feels like, oh am,
- 57:59Speaker 2: I just eating cereal. If I eating it straight from
- 58:01Speaker 2: the pack, you know what I'm saying.
- 58:02Speaker 1: You know, Yeah, if I went to your house for ramen,
- 58:05Speaker 1: we were cooking two different parts.
- 58:10Speaker 2: I would have to cook her as longer. See that's why.
- 58:13Speaker 2: That's why you have to cook it single. I like
- 58:18Speaker 2: Loki just because everybody has a different way of cooking
- 58:21Speaker 2: their noodles. Though. Everybody has a different taste. Some like hard,
- 58:25Speaker 2: some like sauce, some like the whole pack, some like
- 58:27Speaker 2: half the pack. Somebody, you know, hot dogs in this stuff.
- 58:30Speaker 3: Let me tell you how Tim did his He got
- 58:32Speaker 3: this thing called Mama Ramen. So that's how he cheated.
- 58:36Speaker 3: He had a different season. It was like a tie seasoning.
- 58:38Speaker 3: He had a peanut butter to a ship, and that
- 58:41Speaker 3: shit sounds disgusting when I say it was the best
- 58:44Speaker 3: ramen of all.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Time peanut butter, I promise you.
- 58:47Speaker 1: With the tie with the tie ramen, I was like, hell, no, okay.
- 58:51Speaker 2: Okay, because he's making seat that's peanuts songs.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And they had it like corn and hot dogs.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Do it what?
- 58:56Speaker 1: And then he had like I think top chops scallions.
- 58:59Speaker 1: It was down.
- 59:00Speaker 2: You cannot compete with somebody that's Asian, I know. I
- 59:03Speaker 2: was like, that's like saying, oh, you call me black person,
- 59:06Speaker 2: make fried chicken and a bunch of a bunch of uh,
- 59:10Speaker 2: you know.
- 59:10Speaker 3: But I will say bone thugs in harmony. They added
- 59:14Speaker 3: cheese to theirs, and I thought that was all of them.
- 59:16Speaker 2: That's a cheat too, all four of the game, Army.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Coming in lazy it was lazy bone, but it was
- 59:21Speaker 1: like a spread ramen. It was delicious, all right, but.
- 59:27Speaker 2: All of them it was you know what.
- 59:28Speaker 3: It was just the fact that they added cheese that
- 59:30Speaker 3: was different from me. I was like, damn, I never
- 59:32Speaker 3: thought about that. It was pretty impressive. Have you ever
- 59:36Speaker 3: added cheese to your ramen?
- 59:37Speaker 2: Never too much, that's too much.
- 59:39Speaker 1: It was pretty good, but yours is like, yo, you broke.
- 59:43Speaker 1: You ain't got nothing in the account. You got like
- 59:45Speaker 1: just ramen. You got a half onion in your fridge,
- 59:48Speaker 1: you got some eggs. Yeah that was George.
- 59:50Speaker 3: Matter of fact, if you add more crystals hot sauce
- 59:52Speaker 3: to probably help it. Let's try, all right.
- 59:58Speaker 1: But you know what, I'm glad you're here and you're
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: spending time with me. And I've now discovered one of
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: the worst ramins.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Ain't the worst. I'm I'm Bruce. Spruce it up again
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: You know what it is? You just over cooked it. Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna do that for her next time and.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: See what happens if I put a lot of hot
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: sauce on it.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: It's not gonna change it because it's still soft noodles.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: But it's fine.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I don't know, I could smell that house. That may
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: have been too much.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Made a whole new dish. It's not even my recipe anymore,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: so go on.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Yeah, So back to your story when you hit that
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: one point five, just to take it back, were you
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: like low key like, what was that experience? Because I
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: know I would have been hyped. I would have been
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: hyped off like two hundred thousand.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it was. It was a ground. It was
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: in a journey to get there.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: It was one of the videos. Did it really take off?
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Is that? What? I did have one video that went
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: crazy that a lot of people was like, and it
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: was before people were like going viral on Instagram. I
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: think it's just up like a glitch because I but
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: I gained like fifteen thousand and twenty thousand. No, I
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: came like almost fifty thousand followers from that one video,
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: and it was like, I don't know, it just went crazy,
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: then it stopped, I don't.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Know, and then you had to just keep working until
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: you got another.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, just grinding and posting and doing shoutouts.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Shoutouts back then like me and Haha Davis and Tonio Skins.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: We had like groups of cats. I remember Desi. We
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: would do shoutouts banks like been in the game for
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: so long to be some on everybody. We all are
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: a party. But they were oh you they came a
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: little bit after they came, like maybe they were probably as.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: They're also a different market because they're Atlanta market.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's still all the Internet. It's influencers Instagram,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: I would say, Instagram.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: I know Simone taps in with like day Storm Squad
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: a little bit by. I don't never see Desi and.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Uh no not not Desi, but no, no, yeah, because
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: usually what.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I noticed with those clicks is like you have your
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: DC's crew DC Young fly that hole, but.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: They all PC bas. You gotta think about it. Back then,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: it was all like just kind of only a few
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: of us. You got Batch and everybody who was the godfathers,
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: and then then that's a tight circle. Then they started
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: expanding more so you had probably about ten of us
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: as far as urban influencers that kind of all were
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: the known guys.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: And you guys didn't hey, y'all just kind of collod.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Yeah, collab, but boom boom, we're doing our thing now, DC,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Young Fly, B Simone and everybody started to come to
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: LA and jump in these videos. Especially all of them
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: would want to do at some point and the levels
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: of career, I want to do something with Batch, so
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: they would all come out, like Country Wayne, he came
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: out a couple of times. He shot some videos with me,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Like they all start to come but then it just became,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: you know, an expansion of influencers and it got bigger
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: and bigger. But I remember, yeah, I was excited my
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: first million followers because it was a thing like everybody
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: had hit a million followers, they would do like a
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: celebration video, a big video, and I, you know, I
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: like to think big like my I like look up
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: to Michael Jackson. So I was like, man, I'm gonna
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: do this. So I was like, all right, I'm gonna
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: get all like the top guys like Bad State Storm,
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: you know my boy fondso Melville, Greg Spoken Reasons and
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: like a bunch of Tonio, a bunch of influences that
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: you were familiar with and putting in one video just
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: you know. I'm like, I'm having a celebration. I always
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: had in my head Eddie Murphy's song or the ending
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: of coming to America when he got his wife. You
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: kind of favored a little bit of that thing about
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: this little you know what I'm saying. But you know what,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: the celebrations we just got married. So I said, I
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: want to use that. So I said, man, I don't
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: know why I get these ideas. I'm gonna get a band.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: So I went to all this. I went to u
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: a high school, the Hollywood High School on Highland, and
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: I went up in there. I was like, look, man,
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I got a million follows and I'm gonna do celebration now.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: This one used the band and I wanted to play
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: this song and he was like, yeah, well we won't
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: get to everyone there. That's cool and it's supposed for us.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: So I had a band and I had everybody show up.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Then I was I'm gonna take it to the next
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: level because I was doing a lot of stuff with
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Heartbeat Productions. So I'm like, man, and they's talking about
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: we talking about Kevin Hart at the peak, like the hottest,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: hottest of his career, and I was like, man, I
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: had told Kevin right before, like I was hearing. I
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: was like, man, when I do my million follows celebration,
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: you're gonna be in it. He's like, yeah, okay, sure,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: he jokes about it. Let me get your vote, you know,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: whatever you want to vote. And I was like yeah,
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: you know. So that time comes and I was like, yeah,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: can I get cared? You know, I'm talking to his
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: people and don't get cave and we was going to
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: the What Now premiere and they was like yeah, all right.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: So cav said he'll do it for you, but you
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: gotta be quick, and I just fect rewind back to
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: one of those moments I had. This is a I
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: had with Kevin, but I was more prepared. But back then,
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: when I shoot with Marlon Wains and he was doing
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: promotion for his movie, A Scary Movie, he was like
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: all right. He comes in, He's like, all I want
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: to do a vine Now normally you got the vine groups.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Everybody got something to say. You know, I was the leader,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: but everybody always got ideas that they want to do,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: and I just feel like the boss. But as soon
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: as like Marlon comes in, imagine this is the hotel,
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: this is the door, and that's the room, like literally
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: everybody on the couch sitting where the cameras are. And
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I'm at I let Marlin in and he goes straight
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: past me and sits on the couch and it's like,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: all right, so what we don't what do you want
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: me do? And for a split second, I'm like you
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: grow up and color and all I can hear in
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: my head was like, oh my gosh, I'm about to
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: give direction to be the director for Marlon freaking waans
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: like he's asking me, just use me, tell me what
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: you want me to do. But it felt like ten minutes,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: but it was a half seconds. I went straight yeah,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: all right, we're gonna do that, you know. So fast
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: forward back to this time with Kevin and I'm shooting.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: I'm used to shooting and everything, and I know how
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: to cheat around to get stuff done would limited amount
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: of time, So keVs like they was like yeah, so
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: cav won't come in after the thing after you talked
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: to y'all and you got a little because you gotta
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: get ready to back on the road, so you got
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: to go ahead shoot it. So I said, all right,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: me and my boy Tonio s kiss on life. So look, keV,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: I just want you to go in and uh talk
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: smack about me being excited about having a million files.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: I should play this during the interview too. You talk
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: smack about me.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: I love how you're also like your director and editing. Yeah.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: So yeah, So he up there talking smack about me,
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: and I'm like, look, I'm just gonna get your reactions,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: do all your thing. We get one take it at,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: gonna light it up, and then you can go ahead
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: and leave. Okay, I'll just get my reactions. Just camera
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: on me, and we knocked it out, and I had
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: this video and I got put everything together. I had
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: the band, I had all I even had, like to
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: shoot all my influence, like batching everything separately because I
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: couldn't get him all on the same schedule. So I
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: shot a book tight and it made it look like
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: they was all together. And I got a horse. I said,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: I need a horse. I need a white horse. I've
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: never ridden a horse.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Find this video.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you can't find it, I'll send it. So
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I had a d horse and I was like, I'm
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: a ride in on this horse with this little white suit.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Looked like a monkey suit. I found it in downtown
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: and looked like a little Mexican. Not racist, but you
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: look like a little Mexican, like one of those band suits,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: just to be funny. And I'm on this horse, and
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: I remember that the training was still holding that horse.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: I remember like, whoo that thing because we had to
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: drone out there, and I think the nurse the horse
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: was a little nervous from all this stuff, like it's
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: always it's as good a hint to them. I'm like, no,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: it's not. I think that drone was throwing him at
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: the sound. He joed it one time and I felt
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: like in between my thighs, I said, oh, this is
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: a lot of power. I could die on. This is
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: all It's pure muscle under my legs right now. If
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: he decides to go crazy, I'm done. But he didn't.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: We got it. We got the video. It was out.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: It was magical, and I remember in the comments that
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: everybody was like, dang, that's crazy. How'd you get that horse?
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: I'm like, I got one of the biggest comedians in
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: the world to talk smack in my celebration video and
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: all you guys can worry about is the horse, all right?
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: You know? So yeah, that's how I celebrated it was
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: it was a great mind. I do things big.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that. I like that. So what was
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: that big next big milestone for you?
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Shoot the big next milestone?
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Just so at this point, are you you're still acquiring
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: like a huge YouTube following too, right?
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh then I okay, So I said I wanted
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: to do longer content, so I went over and created
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: a show called You Hitting That on YouTube. That's when
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: I returned back to I did a few videos before
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: to kind of get the rhythm. So I never really
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: put my old viral videos, which I've seen a lot
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: of people posting my videos over the over the years
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: because of music. I used a lot of music, and
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: YouTube was always tripping about music and you can't monetize it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: But I finally came back start doing more original content
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: and I did the show and you know, me and
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: my boy Dame Pierre, we created the show together and
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: it went crazy. It went crazy. Fans love it. They
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: still love it, and it's still a brand from it.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: It's called you hitting that. And I mean I think like,
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: especially the first season, every episode man minimum had a million.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Views, and what was those YouTube checks looking like? What
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: was that first experience with that first check?
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: That was great, that was actually marvelous, But it still
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: wasn't as impactful as it could have been because YouTube
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: had all these rules. Sometimes they got me for music.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Sometimes it was like just a little bit too sexual
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: energy for you, so it would not get the full
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: glow of like monetizing if normally, if it's green, it
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: means you're gonna get the maximum amount of money. If
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: it's yellow, it's gonna be a little shaky. If it's red,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: you ain't getting nothing, you know. So I had a
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: lot of yellows I had to learn. The second season
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: got you know, I kind of could control a little
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: bit more. But at that point I wasn't really worried
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: about that. And then I start adding like more familiar
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: faces and comics like Michael Collier. I even managed to
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: get Lisa Ray the Great and a couple of episodes
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: of the second season. Then I end up shooting a
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: movie for it called You Married That that just got
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: on All Black Streaming network. And I'm gonna do some
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: more things with the movie. It's a fan base for it.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Then another show and just building from that. And that
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: is leading me now to getting ready to launch my
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: own network. It's called the Judi Network. What. Yeah, It's
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: time to take my power back and you know, go
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: to the next time. Now, this is not an extended YouTube.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: This is actually I'm not going to be in everything.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: This is.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: What you're saying network. When I think of networking Zeus.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: And yeah, well Zeus is great, love them making money,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: but not as aggressive yet. But the same people that
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: built those platforms like Zeus built minds, oh built yours?
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Yes, So what is the headache for that next milestone?
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Money? I need money? So if any investors looking out.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: There, are you doing it currently with your own money
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: or have you raised some capital.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I'm going for broke, Robert Townson style, going for broke,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: just trusting myself, investing in myself and getting ready. I'm
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: shooting already shot at third season of you Hitting That
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: because that's a brand that.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I know what I called you the other day, you
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: were shooting a bunch. Where were you work on the drama? Well,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I think I just got back from New York.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: I shot a Christmas movie for BT, so that's what
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I did, kind of like around the time you hit me.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: But I'm getting in production for the drama and and
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: all this stuff with the stand up going. I just
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: came from Arizona did to show off there, so it's
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: a lot. But I'm back now back. I got a
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: production call after this talking about that drama. So when
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: you say that drama, it's a drama series. Is a
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: drama series for for you? Or is it for the
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Juda Network? But it's again, it's not like something I'm
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: starting in. It's just something else and then be acquiring
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: more content and just building up and put new series
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: on there too.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: What's the name of the network, the Judah the Judah
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Network jud H j u d a j u d ah.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Get ready. As a matter of fact, you're looking.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: For a home, you know what I'm saying. You know,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I was already thinking, you know, got a lot of.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Why not. You know you can break bread or noodle harder.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, as long as it's not Joe noodles.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: You want.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Okay, So with everything you've experienced, what was like one
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: of the like, what do you think is one of
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: the secret ingredients for like your life?
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Distrusting in God man and you know, just sticking to it. Uh.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: And the number one thing I say uh to anybody
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: getting into the business is consistency. It's just really that's
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: the magic sauce, the magic ingredient, you know, to all
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: this stuff. This is consistency. Even the lesser talented are
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: able to make a name for themselves if they're consistent.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: That's why I see a lot of TikTokers or even
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: back then winers that they are the biggest tons of people,
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: but they were posting. So after a while people just
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: kind of like buy into what they're doing. And even
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: in that consistency, they get better because they're practicing. Yeah,
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: so they are actually getting stronger because of the work
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: that they put in.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: Now there's some people that feel like they are consistent.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: Would you say that there's like a milestone metric. I
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: know in podcasting we talk all the time at the
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: black effect and I heeart, iHeart is a super Consistency
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: is everything they give me. The talk of Colleen, you know,
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: our top number one show has been around.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: For thirty years.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: But I know, like in podcasting, they'll say, like the
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: magic numbers around the three hundred marks, three hundred episodes.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I'm like, three hundred episodes, Well.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's it. Podcasting is a different beast, though
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: it's a lane of its kind of. I've come to
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: realize that world is a numbers game. You've got to
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: really put in the time and an episode. Like I
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: feel like everybody I see that's been doing it for like,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: you know, hundredth episodes like these an hour long episodes.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: That's your life, you know. But it's doable. It's definitely doable,
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: and it's like it feels like when it hits man,
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: the following fan base you get is just they're so loyal.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Like you see podcasters doing podcasting on the road, like
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: even the eighty five South, Like of course they got
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: the wild'n out and everything, But I've seen podcasters that
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: didn't have that following or name, but they have a
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: huge podcast now and all the numbers go up. Yeah,
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: and people just want to come out and experience you live.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: And that's that real money, that real loyalty, you know
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: that I feel like every entertainer should want or have.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Ye I was saying, like, so for some people that
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: are like I've been consistently at it.
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: For a year, do you think that even quantifies in
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: this age of the digital world or do you or
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: should it just be like you don't stop until you
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: you actually win.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, if you really love it, you ain't
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: really doing it for a time. You know you're doing
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: it because you love it, You're not. You know, we
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: used to joke about actors coming out in the beginning
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: when we first got out in the game. I mean,
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: you have these friends. Oh man, I'm just gonna come
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: out and I'm gonna move to LA for a year
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: and just see how it works. And if I don't
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: make it within a year, then it wasn't for me.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: And we just laughed, like, boy, you think you're about
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: to move to LA and just pop off and be
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: the next Denzil or Holly Berry in one year? Okay,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: gonna take you six months to pronounce kawanga Losiana. You're
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: gonna be the lachianga kawonga Like you're gonna be saying
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: that for eight months, you think, like it really is true?
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Like this business they say ten years whatever, but sometimes
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: it is, you know, it's a relationship base. It definitely
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: is a lot of relationships. And even when I first
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: moved out here, the first wave of strikes that were
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: happening with the writers and everything. You know, a lot
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: of people could say, man, I wish I came out
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: at a different time, But I built up a lot
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: of relationships and I wouldn't take anything from that, because
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: you know, I know a lot of people in California,
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: in Hollywood, you know, and it's the beauty of social
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: media that I know even more people in the industry
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: and they know my name if they haven't met me directly.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: You know, it's crazy what I was thinking about that
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: before because my boy, uh Keron, he cracked jokes about
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: me because I was shooting a lot with him. I
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: had the iPhone like four or something, and I think
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: the iPhone six was out at the time, and they'd
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: be like, man, why you you got like one hundreds
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: of thousand people looking at your little iPhone for quality? Like,
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: you know, but if the irony of it is like
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: it's crazy that we could be like, man, I built
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: a career that superseds a lot of careers all on
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: the phone, I phone four you know what I mean. Like,
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: you got your actors that are consistent and not taking
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: away anything from traditional Hollywood, but it's just the game.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Like you can see a TV show that you like
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: right now, and it could be an actor that's on
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: there pretty frequently but not as much, but you would
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: like you see them out and you be like, I
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: think I know I recognize them somewhere. I think you know.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: But because the way Instagram and Vine was like they literally,
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: you know, everybody has the phone everywhere, everybody's on their phone,
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: and they looking at these videos and it's consistently like
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: seven seconds, fifteen seconds is playing over and over. It's
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: like our faces and voices are being embedded in your head,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: you know what I mean. And people connect more. So
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: you got people on these big Fox TV shows or
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: whatever network, and here you are like, what is really
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: the level of success that we're talking about here? Like
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: what is it Hollywood or is it? Like all right,
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: I'm known, I don't have to work it. I haven't
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: worked a job outside of entertainment in ten plus years.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: That's you know what I mean.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: By the way you know you can I've been I
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: can go all around the United States and people know
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: my work, Oh, we love you work, and were fans.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: I don't like calling people fans supporters, but like, you know,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: that's there. So you got that. I went out the country.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: I was in Antigua, and you know, they were like, oh,
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: we love you videos. Oh man, y'all watching videos over? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: and he hit me with the little movie more than
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: you know, bro, more than you know you know what
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: I mean. So you got people all over the world
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: that you got celebrities this year. I heard people at
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: studios be like, oh, yeah, we'll be watching you guys,
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: you know, legs like Robert Townsend and Keene Like you'd
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: be like, man, what's a funny man like me? And
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: Keene was just looking at y'all videos like what like
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: these are like the guys that we look at like
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: modeling our stuff after them, you know? So what is
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: really success at that point? Like do we let us
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: believe that? Are we supposed to believe that success is
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: what Hollywood says it is or you just really look
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: at what life is now. Of course we want to
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: be every artist, well most from where I come from,
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: you want to get that. Okay. I was in Transformers
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: and I was recovered. So that is the goal for sure.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: But sometimes you got to not be so hard on
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: yourself and really sit back and analyze all that you
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: have done and be like, man, it's kind of you
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: did more than some of the actors that just got chosen,
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: you know what I mean, And you have a brand
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: and it's nothing more beautiful to see that outside of
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: the phone. I remember I did my first show in
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: DC and I recorded like I did it like in November,
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: right around my birthday. It's freezing out there and there's
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: a long line and you know, I'm recording the line
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: and you're like, all these people, it's beyond now my
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: family and friends, Like this is all these people betting
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: outside waiting for you, meaning that at some point they
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: had to say I like you, I'll follow you. Now.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I need to get up, get dressed, pick an outfit,
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: drive to you, and wait in the cold to see you.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: That is gratifying.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I can only imagine that is a.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Super feeling, you know what I mean. I feel like
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: anybody that's really working hard in this to get to
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: that level.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Is that would be like a hole. That would be
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: the time at the.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Moment because you work, I'm all corny and stuff. I
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: feel like, hey, we'll get in here so we can
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: watch you, like you know what I'm saying. But that's like, man,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: it's crazy, Like I'm like, look this line along this
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: line is to see me Like it's like, Okay, all
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: the hardwork that you and the validation you've been trying
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: to get from the industry, it is like people really
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: support you know.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well I respect it. I know the show
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: I mentioned this. I hope I mentioned it, but we
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: only interview like self made. Everyone has to be self
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: made and they had to start from this terrible ass ramen.
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: I'm gonna say you know what, I'm gonna give you
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: grace you know why, and respect because you have not
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: eaten this dish in ten years, so this is probably
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: you know, you forgot how long ram is supposed to cook, right,
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: you know I have not It could have.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Beenshed it because I don't eat it anymore. But I
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: got some dishes for you. Okay, don't don't think this
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: is a judgment of being a cook. Okay, this is
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: a joke. So you got some real dishes for hey, Hey,
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: I make a banging a banging salmon pasta.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Oh for real, good salmon pasta too.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I could compete, though, compete it all. I'm
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: also over the years have been the turkey champ. I
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: have some of the softest, juiciest turkeys.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Really.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Yes, I make my infamous Barbie honey cute chicken thighs. Yeah,
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: I make some dishes.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Okay, how do you make your turkey not dry?
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: Well, that's a secret.
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: You know, it's good when someone says that they don't
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: want to share the recipe.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Because then you're gonna be going and then well, I
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: will say, is is love and care? Okay, you got
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: to continue continuously check on your turkey, check on your bird,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: and you got to love on that bird.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: Anything are you talking about? Like you only make it
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: during Thanksgiving and you make a juicy during Thanksgiving?
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Were making turkey all time?
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: I just I was just curious because you was like,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: I'm a turkey juicy turkey person.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm a juty toy. I don't like I'm sorry,
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: I'm not very raciust, but I don't like white meat.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I don't like white meat eating. I agree, I got
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: to have.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: So I want people to be saying, like, your whole
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: turkey taste like dark meat.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm gonna.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: Try this turkey.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Do you cook turkey for your family for Thanksgiving?
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: Yeah? My mom be mad. She'd be trying to hate
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: because you know, you're putting all the extra stuff in it,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: Like you know my turkey better. It is what it is,
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: Like Mom, you know.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I want to try this turkey. Okay, I want to
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: try it for real. I'm I'm gonna hold you to it.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: Bring your turkey.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I've never no, not a turkey. First of all, turkey
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: is naturally dry, so why would I in a turkey.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: I just had a homegirl come to our spot a
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. We had like a friend's kickback,
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: and we all brought food and stuff. And she came
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: to years ago when I first moved out here. Thanksgiving
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: friend friends Giving, Yeah, and she said, I never eat turkey.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: I never have in my life. I'm not gonna do it.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: She brought the story up probably like eight years later,
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: in the house in front of everybody. She's like, you
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: know what, your turkey was the first turkey I ever
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: had and liked because I never liked turkey my whole life,
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: and then I had your and you know, lie, it
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: was juicy, and oh I think I can mouth cookie now,
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: she said, she got out. Yeah, because people have been
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: holding this in. I didn't bless them, and now all
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: of a sudden years later they wanted to step up
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: to the master. It's fine.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I want to try this turkey. I want to try
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: the turkey.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: I got people never in the life like turkey, and
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: I changed and I converted them. You know what.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: You know what someone made for me the other day
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: that I never had was fried salmon.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: There's interesting. People don't really do fris wonder. I guess
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: Sam just looked at it as like a healthy fish.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: But yeah, no one's ever done it.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: But you want to know something, what was also impressive
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: that you would think when you fry salmon would be
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: really dry.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: This cat did it and it wasn't dry.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: I was thoroughly like sitting there like you know, you know,
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: when it's so good, you'd be like, hey, come over here,
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: so what what what breading.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: Did you use?
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Okay, okay, and how how long did you.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Do that for? Okay? You must have baked it again
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: or something I don't.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: I don't know how he did it, but I'll probably text.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: But it was fried and he used the Louisiana you know,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: the the breading the season, and they used it.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: The reason probably why I haven't tried f like that.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: I don't fry, but I promise you that fried salmon.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: I was like at the freak out and it went
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: so quick you couldn't even get more we had with it.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: I mean they had everything. They always have a big spread.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: But yeah, but I was thoroughly like, okay, So what
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: I'm saying is more the story is, don't judge me
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: by my ten year old come back to the tongue ramen.
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: No, we respect you for for We respect and appreciate
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: you for taking the time to make this classic dish
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: that was.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Did you eat all of Tim's Let me tell you,
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: I like Sim's.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Ramen so much.
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: First of all, little backstory is that I couldn't find
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: the Mama ramen that he had, so I texted, I said.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: Another reason why this is the cheat code that nobody.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Yeah, nobody could get their hands on it, and he
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: had some at the house, so he brought it in.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: We had all the ingredients, but his dish was so
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: good that I went home and tried to create it
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: at least four different times.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: Somebody tagged Tim in here, tagging him in the comments.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it was good.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: But I'm gonna do it I want to do.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell my team to do a Ramen like
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: best Ramen and it will be I'm already do that.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: Do that because yours, yours, yours won't even make the list.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: But we give you mad respect because you know what,
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: Tim and all those guys, they still eat Ramen to
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: this day.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: You have not ten years he had it in his house.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: It was bombed. Don't hate, don't hate, don't hate, don't hate.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Me making money? Man, Come on, it was good.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: But he had the Ramen packets in his house that day.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: So you know he's still is id him in here, Okay,
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: I don't hate.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: That's that l a in him watching his figure. I
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: don't eat cards. He carrieds and celery sticks. Johan, Where
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: can people keep up with you? I'm sorry? Was I
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: was that doing so many extras?
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: So yeah, so you can follow me everywhere, Johan Jones.
