- 0:57All right, happy Monday to everyone.
- 0:59It's been a beautiful day here in Southwest Michigan and
- 1:02Northwest Indiana, especially after a bumpy last week on
- 1:06Thursday across the area. So definitely nice weather to
- 1:08get out today. I know this week it's supposed
- 1:10to be bumpier again on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that means as
- 1:15we get through those, we get a little bit closer to turning
- 1:17left and going fast. So with the Monday night Rewind
- 1:20presented by the National compact touring Series,
- 1:22Federated Auto Parts, LH detailing and of course Top row
- 1:25racing media, tonight we have another packed shows we have
- 1:28each week. First joining us at about seven
- 1:31O 5 will be Colin Bozell. He's fresh off of two more
- 1:34victories in his 2026 campaign, one at Kalamazoo last Friday
- 1:38night and the street stock, which you can also watch from
- 1:42his view the onboard camera from Friday night.
- 1:45And then probably tomorrow morning will be the Kalamazoo
- 1:48full race. Got behind on that a little bit.
- 1:52And then joining us at about 7:40 will be Scott Kozak from
- 1:55Get in the Stands, where he'll be talking about the bridge that
- 1:58fans can take advantage of with Get in the Stands between tracks
- 2:02and fans and where you can find tracks all around the area.
- 2:06Don't forget again this Thursday we have Throttle up with us with
- 2:10the Thursday Night Throttle where we preview the upcoming
- 2:13weekend as well as the storylines around the area
- 2:15heading into what looks to be another busy and exciting
- 2:18weekend and short track racing across the area.
- 2:21And we're getting really close to July 13th.
- 2:24So don't forget if you're looking to get a fresh detail
- 2:27marketing partner special from ELH Detailing, you can say the
- 2:32words top row and you'll be entered for a chance at a free
- 2:35detail. And we're giving two ways.
- 2:38So you could potentially get 2 details in the year, but
- 2:42definitely take advantage of that.
- 2:43They're fresh off their car show where they raised a lot of money
- 2:47for a camp that helps students everything over in Montana.
- 2:52So definitely take advantage of that.
- 2:54And then also don't forget too on the top row racing media
- 2:58store, especially if you're looking for those barf stickers.
- 3:01We've had a lot of I've had a lot of people ask me about the
- 3:03barf stickers. So don't forget that means bring
- 3:06a race fan. So again, 40% off on all orders,
- 3:09which includes the bar stickers. But other than that, it's
- 3:12Monday. Buju up there's you.
- 3:14He left from oh, he got a phone call.
- 3:16I bet that's why you had to leave for a moment.
- 3:17But by the ways, we have Drew Jack with the National Compact
- 3:21Touring series, Midwest Compact Touring series, Great Lakes
- 3:24memorabilia, Great Lakes promotions, Race Reach Media,
- 3:27and I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two other things.
- 3:29And then of course, we have Buju with the Bullring Chronicles.
- 3:32I forgot the I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I interrupted my own
- 3:35introduction there, but you forgot the new Crown Victoria
- 3:37series there. 00 royal or not royal pursue what would the the
- 3:43and I don't remember and we. I honestly don't even remember
- 3:46either the The Great American Pursuit.
- 3:48Series player can pursue yeah, the crown big series that he has
- 3:51coming on. So I, well, and then he has one
- 3:53over in New York. So I, I forget what that one's
- 3:55called too, but I think that's Northeast national compact,
- 4:00northeast or something like that.
- 4:02Then. And then of course, Buju, you've
- 4:05been part time announcer at the new Paris Speedway and you'll
- 4:07soon be hosting your own podcast every other week on YouTube and
- 4:12obviously me, owner of Top Row Racing Media.
- 4:14So how are we all doing on a Monday?
- 4:17Go ahead, Andrew, you have more to say than I do.
- 4:20I'm pretty, I'm doing pretty good.
- 4:21It was a very busy weekend. I'm a little sleepy, but we're
- 4:24going to try and bring some energy to the show tonight.
- 4:27I had a double header this weekend, like you said.
- 4:29I was announcing at New Paris again on Saturday.
- 4:31That was very fun. Nice quick show at New Paris
- 4:33once again. A beautiful Saturday that was,
- 4:36that's for sure. You know, I had a a great race
- 4:40at I-96 Speedway with the Midwest compacts.
- 4:42We'll talk about that when our guests are done, but also a
- 4:46shout out to both the Russell's M40 Speedway and Hartford Motor
- 4:51Speedway where I was at both put on great shows and you know,
- 4:56Hartford, the night of destructions, they had about 70
- 4:58competitors. The stands were packed.
- 5:01A lot of times, you know when you do 3 or 4, the stands aren't
- 5:04as full as you do one or two. But I'll tell you that was
- 5:07pretty packed at Hartford Speedway.
- 5:09Congratulations to Tim and Leah and their entire team.
- 5:12It's a lot of fun on Friday and Saturday.
- 5:15I also want to give a shout out real quick to New Paris's
- 5:17shirts. I finally bought one Saturday.
- 5:19Great merch at New Paris. No, no free ads.
- 5:22I know. I'm sorry Louis, but.
- 5:23Very merch down in new Paris. We're good with new Paris.
- 5:26Advertise all you want, but is that their 2026 shirt if I
- 5:30remember. I believe so.
- 5:32I'm not sure. I just, I just like it so much.
- 5:35Yeah, I didn't get that one yet. I have to get that.
- 5:36Oh no, that's from last year. But I I still need to get that
- 5:39one. I need to.
- 5:40That's a good reminder. But they do have really nice
- 5:44shirts there, so. I assume, I assume Andy designs
- 5:47them just like she does the posters and does a very fine
- 5:49job. So yeah, another compliment to
- 5:51new pairs for me is great merch. Well, and the food too, I mean,
- 5:56they, they're burgers. They have secret sauce that they
- 5:59do with that. And Tracy won't tell me yet, but
- 6:02I, I was. I was talking, I was talking
- 6:05about on the microphone this week.
- 6:06I don't. Do they have the jumbo hot dogs
- 6:07every week or was that just a this week thing?
- 6:09Because, man, that was that was a good dog.
- 6:11Two weeks in a row now that they've had the jumbo hot dogs.
- 6:13That was a good dog. I do.
- 6:16Oh, go ahead, Drew. Before we bring out some guests,
- 6:18let's click like and share this and get it out.
- 6:20I know it's on the national compact page, top row racing
- 6:23media page. Let's have we got some really
- 6:26nice guests tonight. Colin Wozell will let you get on
- 6:29that. I'm excited about that.
- 6:31That kids been on fire. Oh yeah, well, that's exactly
- 6:34what I was just getting ready to do, is do a reminder for likes,
- 6:37you know, likes and shares and all the things I know.
- 6:40Sorry I got distracted. I've been GoPro support all day.
- 6:43Has kind of been a best friend of mine, sometimes irritatingly
- 6:48and other times and good. But I had two cameras fry up on
- 6:50me over the weekend, one at Kalamazoo, but at least I got
- 6:53most of it. It was with the Super Modified.
- 6:55So we have all but two laps, two or three laps from that, from
- 7:00the Super Modified, but his camera is kaput.
- 7:03That's number 14. So our IP to Camera 14 and then
- 7:07the one that actually Colin Bozell has done really well with
- 7:10in the past and Scott LCU camera #1 which is other people's
- 7:14enemy, in fact majority of the world's enemy.
- 7:17Any time I had camera one, nobody wanted it.
- 7:19But Colin always took on the challenge and won a couple races
- 7:22with it last year. That one bit the dust over at
- 7:25New or at Galesburg so that they're both getting replaced.
- 7:30I want to send a shout out to Tracy Blanchard.
- 7:33She helped with some of the 'cause I was hesitant and she
- 7:38did it anyway. So she said you do a lot for us
- 7:42and so definitely want to support and all that.
- 7:44So that helped with some of it. So, and I know other people said
- 7:48do no donations. I just, I never get into that.
- 7:50It's like, you know, I, I never asked for that.
- 7:52It's just show up, do my job do anything I'm supposed to do and
- 7:55hopefully it works. But but yeah.
- 7:57So we did lose the footage on camera number one.
- 7:59That's how bad it was that disk everything is is pretty put.
- 8:04So feel bad for Keith Adams. I was Colin had this a few weeks
- 8:08ago with his limited late or not limited late model.
- 8:09But with the late model, we lost like the last couple, a lapse on
- 8:13it, which I always hate when that happens.
- 8:15But sometimes I can't control the technology.
- 8:19So if you see me looking to the side, that's because I've been
- 8:21dealing with GoPro support for now 7 hours.
- 8:23So we're trying to get everything processed.
- 8:26But other than that, if we're all ready, I know Colin's right
- 8:29in the staging area. All right, so we're going to
- 8:34bring on Colin Bozell, who again added his eighth and 9th feature
- 8:40win this past weekend. 1st at Callum is you in the Street
- 8:44stock and then at Galesburg in the Street stock so we can sweep
- 8:48in the Street stock. So again, Colin, how are you
- 8:50doing tonight? Doing good.
- 8:52How are you pals doing? Great, thanks for asking and
- 8:55you've been on fire and on a roll no matter What Car you've
- 8:58been racing lately. Yeah, it's been, it's been a
- 9:02pretty good start to the year, I should say.
- 9:06So do you want to talk a little bit about, you know, first, just
- 9:09for those who may be at other tracks and don't get a chance to
- 9:11even watch you in person or they know the name, but they don't
- 9:15like know who you are. If you want to talk a little bit
- 9:17about that, then we can go right into, I mean, nine wins this
- 9:20year, which is if you want to remind how many you even had
- 9:25last year, I think you're getting pretty close to like
- 9:27eclipsing what you did last year.
- 9:28I mean, it's just been such a dominant run over the last two
- 9:31years. So first you are and then kind
- 9:33of go into. I mean, I think it's like 6 in a
- 9:36row right now if I was counting right. 1249 row, but 9 total,
- 9:42yeah. So every, every race that I've
- 9:45been in with the street stack, I've I've won so far this year,
- 9:49I've every, every time I've competed with the car we've
- 9:53parked in Venture Lane. So.
- 9:56Just dominant. It's impressive.
- 9:58And you did that last year? And is it the same car as last
- 10:00year? Yeah, it's the same car as last
- 10:03year. We've we ventured out a little
- 10:05bit last year to a couple of the bigger races and we took some,
- 10:10you know, shots and I think we had chances to win, but we just
- 10:15got kind of caught up in some wrecks and it ended our night
- 10:19short. But no, it's been, it's been a
- 10:22pretty good year so far for the Street Stock and I got a new
- 10:27late model this year. We took that out for the first
- 10:30time ever, even driving the car and we parked out in Victory
- 10:33Lane. That was pretty crazy.
- 10:37And yeah, we're we definitely don't plan on slowing down.
- 10:40We're chasing every checker we can get.
- 10:44So how do you do this? How do you determine which car
- 10:46you're going to race each week? I don't.
- 10:50I just, I, I don't know it. It all boils down to Thursday or
- 10:55Friday on which one I want to put in the trailer, and that's
- 10:57the one we take. So I'm pretty dominant on the
- 11:01street stack at Galesburg just because we're leading the points
- 11:04right now and I haven't won a championship in the street
- 11:07stack, so I'm thinking I'm going to try to lock that up for this
- 11:12year, so. So do you want to talk about
- 11:16that because you come from a championship family?
- 11:18I mean, just the Bozell name in itself carries a lot of weight
- 11:21in Southwest Michigan. So you want to talk a little bit
- 11:25about like even what got you and tracing other than probably
- 11:28growing up around it, you know your background and and even why
- 11:32you know why you chase checkers just like your dad, you know
- 11:35Jeff. And then obviously you have
- 11:37relation with Phil and everybody else.
- 11:39So like, where does Colin fit in?
- 11:40And all of that with the championship pedigree just.
- 11:43A little boy standing at the fence watching them cars all my
- 11:47life, you know, it's, you know, I, I was once underneath the
- 11:51bleachers with Hot Wheels building race tracks with a
- 11:55plastic spoon and you know, and then now I'm all grown up and
- 12:02taking checkered. So it's just been a part of my
- 12:05life for since I can remember, you know, that's all I've ever
- 12:08known. So I definitely want to carry on
- 12:11my family's legacy. You know, I don't, I don't want
- 12:14it to fade off or anything like that.
- 12:17So and the championships last year, I probably could have
- 12:22locked up a championship somewhere, but I had more fun
- 12:25bouncing around, you know, track to track and, you know, taking
- 12:28on the challenges and we won it quite a few tracks last year in
- 12:32the streets top just travelling around and, you know, doing our
- 12:36thing. But I think I'm going to try to
- 12:39lock up the one at Galesburg this year and just have fun.
- 12:44That's all that matters is if having fun and, you know, trying
- 12:48to keep the cars clean because as most people know, you know,
- 12:53it's it's my racing crew is very small.
- 12:56So we, we just do what we can with what we got and we're there
- 13:01to, you know, win races so. So you've been talking about
- 13:06your championship goals at Galesburg.
- 13:09There's a lot of big St. Stock races, a lot of big late
- 13:12Model races. What's one of those races that
- 13:15you would like to win before you retire when you're if it's the
- 13:18Ravers Rumble or the new Paris Czech flagger boy?
- 13:23I mean, there's there's a lot of races that I would like to win
- 13:28and there will be a time to where I'll have a chance to win
- 13:31one of those races. So but I want to win a clash.
- 13:36I've won the Raver Rumble. I'd like to take another shot at
- 13:38that this year again with the Street Stock.
- 13:43I definitely want to, you know, my, I think I want to win and
- 13:48two cars in one night. That would be awesome.
- 13:50Rather it's a big show or small show, you know, just get out of
- 13:54one car after parking it and getting another and do it.
- 13:56I think that would be pretty cool.
- 13:58So that's another goal of mine. And you could talk a little bit
- 14:02about maybe 3 cars in one night, you know, maybe not right at the
- 14:05beginning of the season, but I know at the beginning you're
- 14:07kind of talk about one night you might have all three there.
- 14:10So and and wasn't someone kind of looking into whether that's
- 14:13been done or not? Yeah, I don't know if that has
- 14:17been done. If it has, kudos to that person
- 14:20that did it. But that's definitely a bucket
- 14:24list because I do have 3 hot rods and I don't have enough
- 14:29trucks or trailers to pull all three, but I can sure I can pull
- 14:32a posse together to make something happen.
- 14:34And yeah, you never know what track it might be at or, you
- 14:39know, I mean, it's obviously got to be a track that runs the late
- 14:42model division, but it's definitely a goal to park all
- 14:47three in one night. That'd be pretty cool.
- 14:51Sorry, just one real quick and I'll slip it over to you, but
- 14:54back off on what Colin was saying.
- 14:56He must have it in the bloodline because Uncle Andy did that a
- 14:59long time ago. I don't know if he won for your
- 15:02four or three races, but he did it and they ran double features
- 15:06and he tried attempted to run every feature in the front wheel
- 15:08drives the late models and they want to say the Street Stocks
- 15:12and maybe the Sportsman's at the time.
- 15:14So that's quite the goal and you'll be very tired that day.
- 15:17Sorry, Buju, I'll kick you back over to you.
- 15:19No. You're all good.
- 15:20We're just going circling back to, we were talking about tracks
- 15:23and stuff like that. What are some tracks maybe that
- 15:25you haven't ran yet, that you have circled that you're looking
- 15:27forward to getting to or maybe, yeah, soon, maybe this year or
- 15:30in the near future? Well, I ran pretty much every
- 15:35local track around here. You know, even in the Indiana,
- 15:39I've heard, you know, some good things about Shady Bowl.
- 15:43I mean just how it's so racy. I want to take the late model
- 15:46down there and try it. I've never ran at Berlin.
- 15:49I don't know What Car I would take there.
- 15:53There's you know, there's a handful of tracks.
- 15:55I did really want to go to that Ken Ross track and try that out.
- 16:00But like I said, my team small, you know, funding short.
- 16:03So we just do what we can, when we can, and we go from there.
- 16:09Are you going to talk a little bit about, you know, for
- 16:11especially for fans who don't know, like what does it take?
- 16:14And you don't have to give specific, you know, numbers by
- 16:17the way, But in general, like what does it take to be,
- 16:20especially at the level you are right now competing?
- 16:23You know, the the sponsorships, which I know are there's not as
- 16:26many with your car, but you know, the sponsorships, the cost
- 16:30like things that you have to factor in as you make these
- 16:32trips to even to Kalamazoo, which is just around the corner,
- 16:36or to Corrigan, which may be a little bit further around the
- 16:39corner. Like what does it take to run a
- 16:40competitive St. stock that's competing for either first or at
- 16:45least the top of this of the board?
- 16:48Well, first of all, I just want to give a big thanks to Amsoil.
- 16:51Damn net. He's got the best products ever
- 16:53and he, you know, supplies all our fluids and I couldn't do it
- 16:57without him. But as far as like funding goes
- 17:00for, you know, traveling around buying tires and stuff like
- 17:03that. I mean, we get a little bit of
- 17:05money in the beginning of the year by, you know, friends and
- 17:08what not that we get on the car, but other than that throughout
- 17:10the year, it's all funded out of my pocket.
- 17:13So and it's not cheap. You know, there's, there's times
- 17:16to where we go and you know, we spend 700 to make 700, but at
- 17:21the end of the day, you know, it's we're not there to worry
- 17:25about money. We're there to race, you know,
- 17:27so I mean, there's been times where I've spent my last $20 to
- 17:32get there and raced on old tires and came home with 800 bucks.
- 17:35So you know, we, we just do what we can.
- 17:39You know, I mean, we've been wanting to get up to Owosso and
- 17:43a couple of the other bigger facilities to race this year.
- 17:46We just, we want to get our point cushion a little bit
- 17:48further than what it is over at Galesburg before we take a night
- 17:51off to where we're safe, you know, to take a night and come
- 17:55back following weekend and still be in a good position.
- 17:58So, but yeah, it's, it's not easy.
- 18:01It's not for the week, that's for sure.
- 18:03So. Well, I think sometimes, and I
- 18:06ask that just because, you know, we've had other drivers kind of
- 18:09explain that to, you know, for their kind of car, just because
- 18:12sometimes you will see fans, of course, say, well, how come that
- 18:16driver is not there? Why is that driver not there?
- 18:18Why is there this or why is there that?
- 18:20And it's as you just said, like sometimes you're, you're
- 18:23spending your your last dollars or just you get to the track
- 18:27hoping, you know, that you come out ahead, right?
- 18:31Or at least come out with something, you know, maybe more
- 18:33at least 20 bucks back, right? Like I sometimes think like fans
- 18:38and even sometimes drivers when they want someone to be there,
- 18:41it's like, well, it was a challenge for you to get here
- 18:43too. So, you know, like that costs
- 18:46are not cheap, especially when you're running a competitive up
- 18:50in the front St. stock that all so you don't have time to tear
- 18:53up, you know, you know, do you want to talk a little bit about
- 18:56not only with this cost savings, but the one thing that you do is
- 18:59you race very clean. I mean, watching you go, you're
- 19:03like a silent assassin sometimes in a way, because you'll be in
- 19:07the middle of a pack and next thing you know, there you are,
- 19:10you know, and and there's not really a scratch on you.
- 19:13And so like, not only cost savings, because as you said,
- 19:16funding is hard to come by, but at the same time, like you're
- 19:21fixing your car if there's something that happens.
- 19:23So do you want to talk a little bit about your race strategy and
- 19:26how you're able to be so lethal on the track, but doing it in a
- 19:30way where you're not pushing people out of the way, you're
- 19:33not bumping them out of the way, you're just doing your thing?
- 19:37So I mean it all, it all boils down to focus, You know, I, I
- 19:43don't know. I mean, it's, it's all in my
- 19:46head, like I'm never racing on the back bumper that's right in
- 19:49front of me. And I'm always watching what,
- 19:51you know, the front cars are doing ahead of me.
- 19:54And, you know, I know how these cars react if, if there's too
- 19:57much wheel turn to the left or there's too much wheel to the,
- 20:00you know, turn to the right when they're trying to overcorrect, I
- 20:03know which way they're going to go.
- 20:06It's, you know, you just got to stay focused.
- 20:08And I'm honestly just blessed that all the, you know, kamikaze
- 20:12moves that I've ever made, I made it out OK, you know?
- 20:16There's been a couple times to where, you know, I climbed the
- 20:19wall at Kilms, the Speedway. I did it twice this year or did
- 20:23it this year in the late model and did it last year in the
- 20:25street stock, you know, and it's that's just, it's like gambling,
- 20:29man. You got to hope to God that it's
- 20:33the right play and hope to God that you come out OK.
- 20:36So, but you just got to stay focused, pay attention to what's
- 20:39going on in front of you. You know, they give race cars a
- 20:43brake pedal for a reason. Sometimes you ain't got to
- 20:45throttle all the way through a wreck.
- 20:46And if you just, you know, slow down a little bit, you come out
- 20:49OK, you know, so. Well, in that Highline that you
- 20:53run, right, we were talking before we got on the show of
- 20:57how, and I've said this to you even last year, just how
- 20:59impressive you know, it has been to watch you run that Highline.
- 21:04And you've LED a lot of races with that Highline and you've
- 21:07been one of the only cars consistently run that Highline
- 21:11and stay high. I mean, almost the entire race
- 21:13you're you're up high. So you know, how does that work
- 21:16either with like your car set up, you know, where others throw
- 21:19fits as soon as they go up top, yours is like, I'm happy up
- 21:21here, you know. So what does it take to that and
- 21:23why? Why the Highline?
- 21:25A lot of that has to do with the tires this year.
- 21:28You know, they're, they haven't been really good for holding
- 21:31their stagger points. And I've always been taught at
- 21:36Kilamazoo that if your car gets tight on the bottom, you just go
- 21:39up top and it'll free it up a little bit.
- 21:41And I've made a lot of success and the top groove over there as
- 21:47far as getting to the front and maintaining the front.
- 21:49And I've just learned the strategy on how to drive it up
- 21:52there. I mean, there's a couple guys,
- 21:54you know, Ricky Laduke can do it.
- 21:57You know, there's, there's a couple guys that's got it
- 21:59figured out. But you, you know, I've sat back
- 22:02and watch guys try to do it and they, they just can't do it.
- 22:05They can't get it done. They either wash up the track
- 22:07and get passed by three cars on the bottom, you know, and it's,
- 22:10it's all throttle control really.
- 22:11I mean, you could really drive it all the way in there and, and
- 22:15either get passed by two cars on the bottom, but by the time
- 22:18you're coming out, you're passing them back, you know, So
- 22:21there's no really hard definition of it, you know,
- 22:25explaining on how to do it. You just got to do it.
- 22:27Either you can or you can't. Well, you definitely can.
- 22:30That's again, that's just that's what I think has been most
- 22:33impressive about this run is just the especially at Kalamazoo
- 22:37and Galesburg. I mean, nine wins this year,
- 22:40which is almost or almost as many as last year, really,
- 22:45really close to tying. And it's just in you're doing
- 22:48it, running a line that just a lot of drivers have not had
- 22:51success duplicating. And I'm sure there are pity, you
- 22:54know, people watching you, you know, watching do that who
- 22:57think, well, if Conlin can do it, I can try to do that.
- 22:59And it, as you said, you've watched, you've had some of them
- 23:02in front of you and it's not because they're bad drivers,
- 23:05right? They're really great drivers,
- 23:06but they just, it doesn't stick for them where you it's like
- 23:10it's like night and you know, walk in the park.
- 23:13It's really incredible. Seriously.
- 23:17So we got a question in the sorry chat.
- 23:22Color of your car is red is a story behind it.
- 23:25Nope, I've never had a red race car and this year was the year
- 23:28to do it. So if anybody has any questions
- 23:32for Colin, drop them in the chat, either Wuju, Lewis or
- 23:34myself or read them. Was I cutting off Wuju?
- 23:38Did you have another question? How about the number?
- 23:41What's the inspiration behind the number?
- 23:44The number has always been my dad, like he's always been the
- 23:4911. And, you know, obviously as a
- 23:52young boy growing up watching your dad do crazy stuff out on
- 23:55the racetrack, you, you want to idle that number.
- 23:57And you know, I, I grew up watching my dad run that number.
- 24:02Johnny Foot ran that number on history stock for multiple years
- 24:05and actually still does run it. You know, I was actually able to
- 24:10just share the track with that car that I grew up watching race
- 24:13and dominating for the longest time all over, you know.
- 24:17So no, it's, it was my old man's number and I'll continue to
- 24:21carry it for him. So you have a lot of family
- 24:24legacy that races. Growing up as a kid you touched
- 24:27about it behind the grandstands. Other than one of your family
- 24:30members, what was one of the your favorite drivers growing up
- 24:33as a kid? That's a tough question.
- 24:41He was only rooting for the family.
- 24:44Honestly, I didn't. I rooted for them all, you know
- 24:47what I mean? Because they were all out there
- 24:49putting a show on for us to watch.
- 24:50So I just, I never really, I mean, my eyes were never off my
- 24:56dad's car, you know, I watched it every square inch of the
- 24:59track. You know, I never really, I
- 25:02mean, I've watched, I've watched them all, but not like I watched
- 25:05my old man's car, so. All right.
- 25:08We'll follow up with that question maybe a little bit
- 25:09easier. From your dad's era, if you
- 25:12could race with anybody from that era, who would you want to
- 25:14race with? That's another hard one.
- 25:23I mean, you got so many good shoes that were back in the day
- 25:28that were, you know, doing great things.
- 25:33It probably I I honestly I have no idea.
- 25:39I I think Todd Currier, one of your dad's old team mates, and
- 25:42you would be a hell of a battle at Kalamazoo Speedway.
- 25:45Yeah, side by side for 30 laps. Absolutely.
- 25:49You're you're, you got, you got that right for sure.
- 25:53I don't know why I forgot about him or how I even did, but he's
- 25:56definitely another one that I idolized growing up.
- 26:00So. So then for your race style,
- 26:04right, you watched as a kid. What are the lessons that you
- 26:08learned? I mean, obviously you come
- 26:10again, from a family dynasty that there's a lot of coaching
- 26:13that can happen within that shop and within that bloodline.
- 26:17But are there other drivers who you watch as a kid really like?
- 26:19I want to be race like them Other Obviously your dad stands
- 26:23out and he's pretty good behind the wheel too, you know?
- 26:26Are there others who you pull from or, or people who you look
- 26:29to as mentors or someone you go to for advice?
- 26:34I mean, in this day and age, yes, I, you know, I bounce
- 26:37around for advice from everybody that I can.
- 26:40But when I was younger, my dad was my idol on everything.
- 26:44So there wasn't nobody taking his spot in that position.
- 26:49You know, 20 years of my life was dedicated just watching him
- 26:53go in circles, you know, so, and as far as like learning how to
- 26:56do things, you know, it's, it's kind of hard not to learn when
- 27:01you're watching it happen every weekend of your life, you know,
- 27:04so throughout the summer, so. What's a favorite win for you
- 27:10and you watching your dad? Like what are winds that stand
- 27:13out to you that are meaningful or memorable or just because
- 27:17obviously within just between you 2, you have a lot of them,
- 27:20but are there any of that like really stands out to you that
- 27:23like, man, we needed this one or this came at a right time,
- 27:26whatever. It's going to probably be goofy
- 27:29the most, but the most meaningful win that I can think
- 27:35of at all was when me and my dad took the Stacker car to Hartford
- 27:39and we won that race and he controlled the throttle and I
- 27:44still, I was up top steering and he never lifted.
- 27:48And I'm like, you know, I'm like, you're going to roll us
- 27:51over if you don't hit the brake, you know, And he he had all
- 27:55faith in me on the steering wheel and we drove right to the
- 27:57front. So that was, you know, the most
- 28:00fun I probably ever had because I was in a race with my old man
- 28:04and it was, you know, we shared a victory together.
- 28:08So that was probably that. So it sounds like since the
- 28:11Stackers are being retired at Kalamazoo, maybe we need a
- 28:14Bozell. You know, if it fit in the
- 28:16schedule, Bozell reunite to crash them, you know, send them
- 28:20out, you know, 'cause they're never they're not coming back,
- 28:22right? So you can help retired the the
- 28:25Stacker cars. Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:28I I gotta say I was, I was scared shitless with him on the.
- 28:32On the gas pedal so. Can't blame you.
- 28:36Well, even that you've done night of destructions, right?
- 28:38You're a racer who has gone over to the night of destruction
- 28:42side. Not only that, but you did a
- 28:43rollover contest a few years ago.
- 28:45You've done different things. So do you even want to talk
- 28:47about like, you know, obviously there's a lot of racers who they
- 28:51hear the words night of destruction and cringe or do
- 28:54whatever and they just can't stand it, you know, but for you,
- 28:58you're getting in a car with some safety and sending it over
- 29:03a ramp and purposely rolling it over.
- 29:05Sue, do you want to talk a little bit about like that?
- 29:08I don't, I wouldn't. I wouldn't say it's adrenaline.
- 29:10Like I want you to say what it is like, what makes you go over
- 29:13to that night of destruction site just to go do stuff that's
- 29:16different? I always show up to watch and
- 29:20everybody's always like Colin to do it, Colin to do it.
- 29:24And I look at him, I'm like, you're damn right I will sign me
- 29:29up. So that's that's how that always
- 29:32happens. And you didn't you like injure a
- 29:34rib or something within that rollover contest and you come
- 29:37out a little bit banged up from it too?
- 29:39Yeah, I had a bruised rib on the on the left side.
- 29:42I flipped that Prius and it has the electric batteries in the
- 29:45bottom of it so it's so heavy. Yep.
- 29:47And when I it slammed on the ground on the side there it I
- 29:51bruised the rib. But we got out and we were going
- 29:54to do it again, but the car wouldn't start so.
- 29:58Yeah, I, I remember that. And I'm like, wow, I and it's
- 30:02good. It was a good rollover.
- 30:03I mean, you'd like you. I I hit it full throttle?
- 30:07Yeah, you did not. I think the wall is what stopped
- 30:09you. I don't think the car stopped
- 30:11itself. I think you made it all the way
- 30:12to the wall, but pretty close. And that was, you know, and
- 30:15again, I just think sometimes, right, like, you know, what
- 30:18makes someone leave that, you know, turning left to go do
- 30:21something crazy like that. So that's.
- 30:23I just wanted to ask that because again, there's a lot of
- 30:25racers who don't embrace. That's right.
- 30:28Like that's a whole, it's like a dirty word, but it's like, I
- 30:31don't know, there's a, there's a street stack racer who's pretty
- 30:33darn good who's out there rolling it over and doing these
- 30:35things. But that's cool story though, to
- 30:37go back to the stacker cuz I mean, you got to share that
- 30:40moment. Not only race against each
- 30:42other, but now race together. Yeah, that's, that's, that's
- 30:45the, the best memory I can think of as I mean, we both won at M40
- 30:51in the Smitty Memorial last year.
- 30:53I won in the street stack, he won in the late model.
- 30:55You know, that was awesome. We both got the same trophy.
- 30:59We both won at Gillsburg. He won in the late model, I won
- 31:02in the street stack. I mean, I'd have to go through
- 31:04the trophy room and look, but I, I'm pretty sure there's like
- 31:07four or five times that we both won at the same track on the
- 31:10same night. And, you know, I don't know
- 31:12exact what dates they are and when they were, but we got
- 31:16pictures and trophies to prove it.
- 31:18So there's a lot of memory shared with him, that's for
- 31:22sure. So they call your dad the master
- 31:24of Faster. What's your nickname?
- 31:26Have they given you 1 yet? I don't know, I have no idea.
- 31:32I So we got to work on that as what I'm hearing, because I
- 31:35don't I don't know that that I've heard anyone with a
- 31:37nickname yet for you, But I don't know, you keep winning
- 31:40these. It might, you know, you might be
- 31:41the trophy something, well, the trophy hunter or trophy hoarder
- 31:46or I don't know, like something because again, it's just the run
- 31:49that you're on. I, I don't remember this at
- 31:53least within the last couple years where someone's just
- 31:55consistently going out there first after first and not just
- 31:58in your doing it in multiple classes.
- 32:01It's not just one class, it's multiple classes.
- 32:04And again, that is, that's just what has been so.
- 32:07Impressive, but his dad says cowboy.
- 32:10Oh, cowboy. All right.
- 32:11There you go. Yeah.
- 32:13It's been cowboy for as long as I can remember, but.
- 32:19He ratted you out. So you you talk about a lot of
- 32:23people have superstitions or car names for their cars.
- 32:26Do you have Do you have names for your cars and where did
- 32:29those names come from? I do.
- 32:31My limited late model is named Shadow and my street stock is
- 32:36named Midnight and I haven't thought of a name for the late
- 32:41model yet so I haven't drove it enough to come come up with a
- 32:47name for it so. It just, if it just it hasn't
- 32:49come to you yet, when it'll be the right circumstance that that
- 32:52name will come to you. It will come to me, but it it
- 32:55took me 3 years to come up with a name for my limited late model
- 32:58so. And where do the names come
- 33:01from? Like what inspires it or where
- 33:03you know, what's like midnight? Where does midnight come from?
- 33:08It's just, it was a thought and you know, she's I got to stick
- 33:13her on the bumper. That's Midnight Rider.
- 33:15She's. Just she's just a midnight rider
- 33:17and shadow. It was just like, you know, now
- 33:21you see me, now you don't kind of thing.
- 33:23Oh yeah, I like that. I like the access.
- 33:27There's a lot of people seeing you go by, then they don't see
- 33:29you for a while until they're past you when you're already
- 33:32parked in Victory Lane. I mean, it's, I like that.
- 33:35That's cool. I've always wondered like, where
- 33:37do the names even come from? Like what's the inspiration to
- 33:40even like Midnight like? So that's pretty cool.
- 33:43Thank you for sharing that. Yep.
- 33:46Who wins between you and your dad in the drag race?
- 33:495 laps Who wins? Well, we know Jeff doesn't lift
- 33:54so. Depends on what we're driving.
- 33:57He's got a lot more hot rods than I do so.
- 34:01Street stock, you both get a street stock, both set up the
- 34:04same whatever, right? Like.
- 34:07He'd probably win because he'd spin me out on lap one.
- 34:12He knows better. Well, and that's when it's fun,
- 34:17you know, watching him race, I don't get to watch him race as
- 34:19often now, but even when he came down to New Paris a few years
- 34:22ago, that was just so awesome to see the Bozell banner there.
- 34:25And, and so it's always, it's always fun watching him racing.
- 34:29And I liked his, I think it's his car last year that had the
- 34:32pink ribbon on it with the breast cancer or year before.
- 34:36But you know, obviously my mom's A2 time survivor.
- 34:39So anytime I see a breast cancer car, those always stick out to
- 34:41me too. And so he had a really awesome
- 34:43scheme then. I mean, a few years ago you had
- 34:46a black and gold car. You had different things.
- 34:48So what do you what goes in your head when you're like coming up
- 34:51with your schemes and what you want your identity to be for
- 34:54that year? It's always, you know, March
- 34:59Madness, man, It's either, you know, I'm, I've always been into
- 35:03black race cars, you know, the flat black gold.
- 35:06Gold's my favorite color because of my dad Chevelle.
- 35:10So it's just a, you know, and then this year I'm like, you
- 35:14know, I'm going to do a black on red.
- 35:16And then that's just how it kind of turned out.
- 35:19I've never done a black on red. I've had black and red
- 35:23lettering, you know, black cars with red lettering, but I've
- 35:25never done like a red body. So and just so happens now all
- 35:30three my cars are black and red so.
- 35:34Yeah, 'cause you did the same scheme for all three, right?
- 35:36Like I I think that's what you're saying, that they are all
- 35:39all the same. Yep.
- 35:40So the limited or the late model is all red because I just it
- 35:45came that way when I purchased the car.
- 35:47So, but the limited late model is getting reworked to be black
- 35:53and red so. Oh, sorry.
- 35:57I was reading Bill's comment. I was listening to Colin and
- 36:00reading Bill's comment at the same time.
- 36:01And then you'd made it go away. I didn't get to read all of it.
- 36:06Always like watching. So that's Bill Russell.
- 36:07And you know Bill Russell, I mean, he has wild stories
- 36:09himself. I'll.
- 36:10Bring him back. There you go.
- 36:12I'm like, I'm listening to Colin.
- 36:13But then you pop that up and I'm like, I can't like you're asking
- 36:16me to do 2 things at one time. But so again, an endorsement
- 36:19from Bill Russell. I mean, you can't go wrong
- 36:22there. He's, you know, another, you
- 36:23know, legend in the area. So one thing I was thinking, as
- 36:28you're talking, you know, how often have you and your dad been
- 36:32able to share the same track at the same time?
- 36:34Like we were talking about skiing, we were talking about
- 36:36that, but then the kind of circle back around, obviously in
- 36:38the stacker you shared, because you're literally together, you
- 36:42know, by by like, how often do you guys get to share the track
- 36:45when you race? We've, we've shared it a couple
- 36:49times at one night at Galesburg, it was Rome with your Brown.
- 36:53I was in my street stock and he was in his late model and that
- 36:56was pretty fun. We were door to door for a lap
- 36:58or so. And then we've shared a couple
- 37:02times over at Galesburg in the limited late model class last
- 37:07year, the year before last, I can't remember what year it was,
- 37:09and we got the race door to door and we placed first and second.
- 37:14I won and he got second. And that was, you know, that was
- 37:18huge to me because it's like, I know that I'm holding the
- 37:22pedestal high for him, you know, because I'm sure he wouldn't
- 37:25want anybody else to beat him but his son, you know?
- 37:28So that was, you know, a very proud moment for myself, you
- 37:34know, after watching this guy create my, you know, path and
- 37:38life with racing and to be able to show him that I focused
- 37:43enough to learn something, it was it was huge to me so.
- 37:50So we talked about your racing career, but let's talk about you
- 37:55own your own business, correct? Yes I do.
- 37:57I own my own tree service. Yep.
- 38:00So you want to talk about that moderate listeners learn a
- 38:02little about what they you do in case they need your services
- 38:06anytime soon. I work hard.
- 38:11Well, after last week especially because you do the don't you
- 38:14help with like storm damage like clean?
- 38:16Up. Yeah, we do.
- 38:16We do a little bit here and there.
- 38:19We try not to get too involved with it.
- 38:20You know, we'll help our existing customers if they got
- 38:23storm work, but you know, we stay pretty busy with regular
- 38:26removals and stuff like that. And you know, we have hundreds
- 38:32of preferred customers that we take care of each year.
- 38:36They're always got something to do, you know, each year for us.
- 38:39So we just take care of them and move forward with it.
- 38:44But I got a couple really good guys that work for me and they
- 38:47also work on my race car. So, you know, it's not only do
- 38:51we work Monday through Friday together on the on the job site
- 38:54to make sure our bills are funded, we also grind out our
- 38:58time on the race car. So you know we're.
- 39:01Just a social media page or a website for your business that
- 39:04you want to. Put no, we, we just stay kind of
- 39:06small man I I've never really had to advertise like that or,
- 39:09you know, jump out there and make a, you know, like I don't
- 39:12have two business phones. I just do it right off my phone.
- 39:15You know, I mean an easy life is a good life.
- 39:19So, you know, the less stuff I got to deal with, the better,
- 39:23you know, I mean the phone rings Monday through Friday.
- 39:25Why, why advertise? I mean, I put pictures of our
- 39:29work out there, you know, when we do big jobs because just
- 39:33because it's cool to see the, you know, the turn around on
- 39:37what we did. But no, we don't, we don't have
- 39:41a business page or anything like that.
- 39:42So do you. Want to talk about who helps
- 39:46since we're on that topic. You talked about like the help
- 39:48with your car and even at the track, like you know who all's
- 39:51part of like your team and and helps the car.
- 39:55And I know you help a couple others too if you want to give
- 39:57them all a shout out as well. Yeah, I try to help anybody that
- 40:01needs it. You know, I've helped quite a
- 40:04bit of teams out this year, just as far as.
- 40:07Trying to point them in the right direction and, you know,
- 40:10trying to help them out a little bit.
- 40:14You know, I would never steer anybody wrong.
- 40:17I want to see everybody succeed, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:19Not everybody was grew up around racing.
- 40:21So everybody deserves a chance when they, you know, have one to
- 40:25give. So I just try to help where I
- 40:28can. You know, I mean, I can't
- 40:30financially give anybody money to help them, but I can give
- 40:34them a little bit of the knowledge that I have.
- 40:36And so far everybody that I've helped have came back and said
- 40:39that, you know it, the car's been either the best it's ever
- 40:43been or you know, they picked up a second and 1/2 or 1/2 a second
- 40:48since I've helped them. So, you know, and I got Desmond,
- 40:54Sean and Mike Dimmer. That's my three guys that are
- 40:58with me 24/7 when we're doing stuff.
- 41:00So. And that's about it.
- 41:04And that must be fun even watching like Desmond, I know
- 41:07when he won a few weeks ago, I think you were the first one to
- 41:10his car or pretty close to the first one to his car when in
- 41:13Victory Lane. And, and that, you know, he's
- 41:16been on such a, a run this year too, you know, watching him and
- 41:19that and the 44 front wheel drive.
- 41:22So I, I know I like watching him race because he, you know, he
- 41:25too, he just, he has a line that he keeps and, and runs and seems
- 41:29to be pretty successful with that line.
- 41:30And I know maybe doesn't always get the results that, you know,
- 41:33he would like or hope for, but you know, watching him win and,
- 41:36and then even watch him go out there and compete, I know that's
- 41:38been fun. So and I know he's a really
- 41:40close teammate with you. Yeah, I just think the front
- 41:42wheel drive class is getting out of hand and I think they need to
- 41:45go back to the old Outlaw and dot, you know, hands down.
- 41:50There's no breakout rule for the DOTS and there's no breakout
- 41:53rule for the Outlaws. You know, you're either on a
- 41:55Hoosier or you're on ADOT just because you're you're running
- 41:59ABC and you know, you got a car like Desmond's.
- 42:03You know, it's just just fast enough to be, you know, a top
- 42:07ten car in the A in the A feature.
- 42:09But nobody really wants to come to a track to show up and give
- 42:13it all they got and race for 10th every week.
- 42:17So I just think, you know, if they went back to it AB, you
- 42:20know, got rid of the ABC and went back to dot and Hoosiers,
- 42:24then they would, you know, minimize a lot of headaches.
- 42:28You know, you can obviously have rules for the dot like, you
- 42:32know, not having coil overs and all this other fancy jazz, you
- 42:36know, if you're an outlaw car, be an outlaw car.
- 42:40But there's just, I don't know, the split up on the front wheel
- 42:43drives is getting hard for guys to compete.
- 42:46You got some guys out there with $15,000 mortars in the front
- 42:49wheel drive and it's like I don't even have that into my
- 42:52street stock motor. So, you know, and I don't know,
- 42:56I just wish they would switch things up a little bit for that
- 42:59class because that class deserves some recognition in
- 43:03that so. And that's kind of some of the
- 43:06drawback, which we, you know, Boozoo and I have even talked
- 43:08about that is that, you know, sometimes you it's those B cars
- 43:12who are at the front of the B who could be in the A.
- 43:16But you know, like there you find those kind of betweeners
- 43:20where they're competitive enough to be the A, but they don't
- 43:22qualify into the A, but then they're too fast for the BS
- 43:26sometimes, right? Like it, you know, it's just,
- 43:28it's kind of one of those that, that sometimes the drawback with
- 43:31the ABC is just where do they cut that line that night?
- 43:34And, and this year they've kind of cut it different ways,
- 43:37different times. You know, it used to be like 16
- 43:39would be in the A and then this year's kind of been like 13.
- 43:42And it's like, well, that's putting your fringe people who
- 43:45could be in the A, you know, back into AB and then they're
- 43:50breaking out in the BS. So I I get that, that this
- 43:53sometimes it's how they get cut is where it gets a little like,
- 43:57I would say confusing, but like, well, that's an A car.
- 44:00Why are they in the B? But it's where they cut the line
- 44:02that night, right? So I definitely get what you're
- 44:04saying. That's why it's just easy to
- 44:06have them on dot tires with a shock rule and let them eat, you
- 44:10know, I mean, you're either, you know, a zoo stock or you're an
- 44:14outlaw, you know, So, and there's, it's not hard to tack
- 44:18them to make sure that they ain't got, you know, $15,000
- 44:22into a zoo stock, you know what I mean?
- 44:24So. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:26I'm sure they'll get a grip on that sooner than later, so.
- 44:30Yeah. So I know we're almost out of
- 44:32time here. So any last, you know, thoughts
- 44:34that you want to share? One thing I think is like the
- 44:36best advice you've ever received, whether it's been from
- 44:39your dad in racing or just in life in general, or someone who
- 44:44like, I have Andy Boseall once so that I've learned to try to
- 44:47keep, but you know, like, what's the best advice you've been
- 44:50given, whether it is racing related or just life related?
- 44:54Just, you know, never let your head get too big for your
- 44:58helmet, you know, always be humble and know where you came
- 45:03from and stand on that, you know, So I just, I can't thank
- 45:07my dad enough for raising me up the way I was raised.
- 45:10And, you know, I can't be a poor sport when you lose because
- 45:15it'll happen at any given time. You know, you just got to work
- 45:18harder that following week to get better, to go back out there
- 45:21and show him like, yeah, I got second this week.
- 45:24But look where I'm at this week, you know?
- 45:26So it's all, it's all in the the mental state of mind.
- 45:30You just got to stay calm, collective and go from there.
- 45:34And I've seen that directly. I mean, I can I can attest to
- 45:38that's how you are because I don't I've not seen you like
- 45:41super fired up ever. And maybe you get fired up and I
- 45:43just haven't had a chance to see it yet.
- 45:45But you know, you're one of the drivers who I always touch base
- 45:49with first when I'm at the track, you know, as I make my
- 45:52way around, I always touch base with you.
- 45:54And that's something that, you know, one week when you when the
- 45:58late model got torn up, yours still in a pretty good mood.
- 46:02I mean, it's like, you know, Les models is literally torn up and
- 46:04it didn't like you're like, it happens, you know, just got to
- 46:08get it fixed and come back strong.
- 46:09And it's like, OK, well, that there that that's a good
- 46:12attitude that'll that'll keep some longevity in that racing
- 46:15career, right? You know, if you if you let too
- 46:18much get to you, it probably gets to a point where it's like,
- 46:20OK, time to hang up the steering wheel.
- 46:22But that's one thing hearing you say that it's like, I can, I can
- 46:25attest as an outsider who's not related to you, not blood or
- 46:29anything to say. You definitely are living your
- 46:31words because I've seen it directly.
- 46:34Yep, you just got to stay calm in this part because for one,
- 46:37you ain't getting rich doing it. And you know, there's none of us
- 46:42are going to NASCAR, so you just got to stay calm and you tear a
- 46:46race car up. Oh well, fix it.
- 46:49Yep, Yep. But again, the run that you're
- 46:52on for anyone who's missed it, I before I let you go, and I know
- 46:55Scott Kozak is already in the staging years, so we're about to
- 46:58bring him on. But if you you know, for anyone
- 47:01who hasn't seen it yet on the clip, you know, this is you
- 47:04know, you have someone who's won a championship right behind you
- 47:07and the street stock. And then you have another one
- 47:09who's, you know, pretty close to a teammate, right?
- 47:13I mean, you and Jeff Town or you, you guys parked next to
- 47:15each other or close to each other at least.
- 47:18And. We're cousins.
- 47:21Yeah, Yep. And so you know, you're holding
- 47:23off, right? You're holding off, you know,
- 47:26Jeff here and again, that, that the line you run just seems to,
- 47:31to work for you, although that might be the lowest you went all
- 47:34night, but that but he didn't, he didn't really have anything
- 47:39for you. I think you could have gotten 10
- 47:40more laps and he might have gotten close, but I, I think
- 47:43that was yours to have. I mean, you've just been on such
- 47:46a run. And then for people who then
- 47:47missed it at Galesburg, you know, nobody's in the shop by
- 47:51the way. You're by yourself so that there
- 47:54are more cars on the track. It's just again, you have been
- 47:58dominant here where you, I mean, you can see there's, you know,
- 48:02quite the distance and I think there's a lapped car who is
- 48:04behind you. Nope, that's Garrett.
- 48:06Oh, Garrett. Oh, OK, never my mistake.
- 48:08And but still, I mean, just distance.
- 48:11So for anyone who hasn't seen it, this is this has been what
- 48:15it's been all season for you. So again, it's just enjoy the
- 48:18run. You know, I I know they say, you
- 48:20know, all things come to an end at some point.
- 48:22So, you know, just keep enjoying it.
- 48:24But, you know, just know that you have a lot of people
- 48:27supporting you and watching you. And even for those fans who may
- 48:30not like you just because you're a Bozell, you know they.
- 48:33That's fine. They have to acknowledge though
- 48:35that the run that you're on this year, I mean the worst, worst if
- 48:38we put that in quotes is 8th place in the in the late model
- 48:42and then 5th place. Otherwise you're my race past
- 48:44stats goes first, first, first, first, first, first, first nine
- 48:48times. So out of 10 or 11 opportunities
- 48:51you've been on the track, nine of them have been first places
- 48:55and many of them with quite the distance between you and 2nd.
- 48:58So again, just kudos to you and what you're doing.
- 49:02Thank you guys. Appreciate that.
- 49:04Again, and I know you have a lot to do, cars to work on and
- 49:06everything. So I definitely appreciate you
- 49:08taking the time to come on tonight and and to give us your
- 49:12time to tell, you know, talk about your 2026 season and and
- 49:16share of course, your memories and everything.
- 49:18But or you will be say that again.
- 49:21We'll see you this Friday though, because you'll be,
- 49:24you're thinking maybe double duty, but at least one car will
- 49:26be there. Yep, we'll see.
- 49:28You'll find out Friday. And then Saturday you'll be back
- 49:31at Galesburg then since you're chasing points there.
- 49:33So definitely fans can see you on Saturday at Galesburg and on
- 49:37Friday. You just never know what's going
- 49:39to come out of that Bozell box. Yep, absolutely.
- 49:42Well, again, Colin, thank you so much again for joining us
- 49:45tonight. And then I know I'll see you on
- 49:47on Friday. So I hope you have a great rest
- 49:49of your week and especially with more storms.
- 49:51Come and be safe out there all. Right.
- 49:53See. You guys see you.
- 49:56So again, we've been talking with Colin Bozell, who again,
- 49:59just not to keep reiterating it, but it definitely deserves it.
- 50:02Nine wins so far in 2026 and 2023 had one win. 2024 at least
- 50:11had my race path my race past tracks, zero wins and an A
- 50:16feature. But he's just been on terror the
- 50:18last couple years. So really quick before we bring
- 50:21Scott on. I know he's been hanging out in
- 50:22the bottom there. You are watching the Monday
- 50:25night rewind. So again, we encourage you to
- 50:27like the show share it outlet. People know that you're watching
- 50:31and don't forget this Thursday, the Thursday Night Throttle,
- 50:34which now both podcasts, I think with the help of Scott, are also
- 50:38on Get in the stands.com. So without further ado, let's
- 50:42pull on Scott Kozak from getinthestands.com.
- 50:46So how you doing tonight, Scott? What's up guys?
- 50:49I'm doing well. Thank you very much for having
- 50:51me. Oh, you even got a nice little
- 50:54banner behind. You see, everyone has like a
- 50:56hotel though, so he but he has a nice wall behind them.
- 51:00But you know, has this whole set up and it's different again.
- 51:03It was different last week and he's changed it again.
- 51:06But you have race tracks behind you.
- 51:09So what race tracks are behind you on the wall?
- 51:10There's a dragon. So, so we got the I-57 Speedway.
- 51:15I took that picture on a on a visit there.
- 51:17I met the owners there. We've got Lima land over here.
- 51:21Wait over here. There's Lima land, I believe,
- 51:24down here, which you really can't see.
- 51:25So over this shoulder is the old Beaver Dam Raceway up in
- 51:29Wisconsin, which unfortunately is closed now.
- 51:32And then over here is actually Plymouth.
- 51:35So I took all those pictures I took when I was just doing my
- 51:38various, you know, running around, taking pictures of
- 51:41tracks when no one was there and, you know, just letting
- 51:45people know where tracks are. Yep, well, and that's where Drew
- 51:48will be at Plymouth here in a couple weeks on June 27th for a
- 51:52show with the All Star Pavement Sprints and then come back
- 51:57touring Sears and Monster Trucks.
- 51:58So. I think Kenny Wallace just raced
- 52:00there a few weeks ago, didn't he?
- 52:02Yep, not not the best outcome. He was doing well I guess, and
- 52:05it wasn't a great outcome from what I hear.
- 52:07Kenny was just at Berlin last Saturday.
- 52:10Yeah, that's right. I saw that too.
- 52:11Yep, up in your neck of the woods, Michigan.
- 52:15Yep, and then and I know that's Boujou's hangout too, so I know
- 52:18I had an audible reaction. I apologize for that.
- 52:20But get out the way there so people can see Plymouth.
- 52:23There you go. What a huge, what a huge
- 52:27grandstand that they have there and, and all the individual
- 52:30seats. I mean, you don't see that very
- 52:31often at at grassroots tracks. Yeah, it's a great grandstand.
- 52:36I agree with you. Yeah.
- 52:38Well, so you get a chance to travel all over the United
- 52:42States at all these different tracks.
- 52:44So OK, I apologize. I'm not getting notifications
- 52:48even though people know I'm on a show.
- 52:50That was a dinner bell. I'm getting hungry.
- 52:55But anyways, you get a chance to travel all over the place and go
- 52:58to all these different tracks. And with that you've been able
- 53:01to build get in the stands.com. So if not, if you want to peel
- 53:05the onion back a little bit and kind of how you got into racing
- 53:08your background with that. And then what led you to get in
- 53:11the stands, which I know crashers adventures who was on
- 53:15here? I don't I don't know if he's
- 53:16still on or not, but Donald, one of his hashtags that he uses for
- 53:20everything he posts is get in the stands.
- 53:22So it's at it's working. You got a lot of people using,
- 53:28so if you want to peel the onion back a little bit and and tell
- 53:30everyone who you are and why, they should get in the stands.
- 53:33Well, no, I appreciate it and thank you for having me on.
- 53:37You know, get in the stands.com is the second generation of of
- 53:41racetrack directories that I've owned.
- 53:43The original 1 was called racingin.com and I launched that
- 53:482008 I want to say. So I just my roots in grassroots
- 53:54racing when I was a, a, a young pup, 10/11/12 years old, my
- 53:58father worked at pit gates at Stafford Motor Speedway in
- 54:00Connecticut. So I was one of those kids that
- 54:04the promoters hate running up and down the grandstands causing
- 54:07a ruckus. You know, I was, I was one of
- 54:09those kids and being told go sit with your father.
- 54:14But you know what, whatever anyway, so that, that was my,
- 54:17that was my initial roots in, in grassroots racing growing up in,
- 54:21in New England. Anyway, Fast forward in, in the
- 54:25early 2000s, I worked at a huge country radio station in, in
- 54:29Chicago, US 99, which a lot of you guys probably know.
- 54:34And we put NASCAR on the air and it never been on the air in
- 54:38Chicago before We were, we were living literally like giving
- 54:41them a 10% audience lift just by, by going on the air with
- 54:44NASCAR. And we did it for a few years.
- 54:47And then they promoted their, their local tracks program,
- 54:50right? NASCAR, what was it called?
- 54:52NASCAR local or no? NASCAR Home tracks was the first
- 54:54rendition of it. And I think it was a 2007 or
- 55:012008 in Daytona 500. They put these commercials on
- 55:04TV. Go to nascar.com, look for your
- 55:06local tracks. Whatever.
- 55:07I did it and it took me 10 minutes to find the button that
- 55:13they told me to go look for. And when I did, there was only
- 55:17like 25 tracks listed. And I'm like, wait a second,
- 55:20where's Grundy County? Where's Merrillville at that
- 55:22time? You know, over I-30, in, in, in,
- 55:24in, in Indiana. And none of them were there.
- 55:28And there was no online portal for grassroots racing.
- 55:31So I was like, you know what, I'm going to build this.
- 55:34Because if NASCAR's telling people there's grassroots racing
- 55:37out there, we want you to go see it.
- 55:39And they're not giving everybody all the tracks.
- 55:42Then I'm just going to build it. So that's how racingin.com was
- 55:45built in O8. It launched.
- 55:48We did probably almost 5 million viewers or users in about nine
- 55:53years or 10 years. COVID hit.
- 55:56It was, wasn't mobile friendly. I relaunched it as get in the
- 56:00stands on a mobile friendly platform.
- 56:02It's totally free for anybody to use.
- 56:05They literally just go to get in the stands.com.
- 56:07The home screen shows a box where you enter a city, a state,
- 56:10a zip code. You hit search gives you all the
- 56:12tracks within 100 miles. And we've got track maps for
- 56:16every state. And you know, I was, I was
- 56:18pulling some statistics. We've, we've been up four years
- 56:22now and in the four years we've helped almost 390,000 race fans
- 56:28do nothing except find racing or race dates or race tracks across
- 56:33the United States. It's what we do.
- 56:34We build a bridge. I call it, I call it the Gits
- 56:37bridge because that's what we want to be.
- 56:40And, and you mentioned that there it is.
- 56:42There's the Gits bridge, you know, on your phone, whatever it
- 56:46is, it's mobile friendly. And, and you say that hashtag
- 56:48get in the stands. I started using that hashtag,
- 56:51get in the stands. Oh God, I want to save social
- 56:55media probably back in 2010 or 11 or 12.
- 57:00And I was like, hey, this is pretty catchy.
- 57:01So I bought the domain name and I was like, you know, and that
- 57:03was back when people were like, I don't know, do I want to buy
- 57:06it? Or, you know, so I bought the
- 57:07domain name. I'm like, maybe someday I'll use
- 57:09it. It's pretty catchy.
- 57:10And, you know, COVID hit and I was like, let's do it.
- 57:12So Long story short, we are all about helping race fans find
- 57:17racing where they live, where they're traveling to and
- 57:20through. It's that simple. 1 And I know
- 57:25at PRI you have a huge setup area where you connect motors
- 57:30and owners. And then obviously you've done
- 57:33live shows on your pages, you've created all these different
- 57:37groups that people can be a part of where some they can share
- 57:40places they've been or things they do.
- 57:42Others is more patient and not so much like posting stuff and
- 57:46more like engaging with what you're prompting and, and all
- 57:49that kind of deal. So with that, what have you
- 57:52found, you know, being especially at PRI with in that
- 57:56whole area where you're with promoters and owners pretty much
- 57:59all week, you know, what are some of the challenges that
- 58:02you're hearing or seeing from them or from fans that really
- 58:06helps you as you mold and continue to build?
- 58:10Because it's always building, right?
- 58:11Like it's not. Absolutely.
- 58:14You know, get in the stands.com. So for me, the biggest thing is
- 58:18actually getting, helping promoters kind of cross that
- 58:23bridge into the digital divide. Now, I've been doing digital
- 58:26marketing for 20 years, right? So I was doing it in radio.
- 58:29We were doing, we were building websites, you know, before
- 58:32people really went to websites a lot.
- 58:35And we started social media in, you know, 2005, 2006.
- 58:39And so the whole idea of, of helping promoters learn how to
- 58:44cross that digital divide and use it to their benefit, that's
- 58:48the biggest thing. And I mean, even getting race
- 58:51tracks to even claim their listing.
- 58:53So it's 100% free for any track to claim their listing again in
- 58:57the stands. And that literally gets them the
- 58:59opportunity to put up their logo, their phone number, their
- 59:03website, their social links. And so when somebody's searching
- 59:06and they're on their phone, they literally hit the call this
- 59:08track button or they Click to their socials.
- 59:11That's what the gets bridge is. It's free for every track to do.
- 59:14And, you know, we, we do some paid services for promote and
- 59:16race dates and things like that. But the number one thing is
- 59:20letting fans know, you know, years and years ago.
- 59:23And I'm trying to see if I got my copyright here.
- 59:25It's over on my bookcase. You know, there was the the
- 59:28National Speedway directory, right?
- 59:29Everybody had that in their car, you know?
- 59:33Yeah, the National Speedway directory.
- 59:34I'm I'm just trying to think if I haven't heard.
- 59:37It I heard some of the Holy Bible before the ending were us
- 59:40all people. Hey, I'm in that group, Drew.
- 59:45I am too, you know, and, and Alan Brown, God rest his soul,
- 59:49you know, I had that for years and years.
- 59:51And then Tim Brown, Tim Frost took it on and, and I think the
- 59:56last one they, they did was 2019 maybe.
- 1:00:00And, and it's just like, you know what, everybody's on their
- 1:00:04phone nowadays, right? It's it word of mouth is not
- 1:00:06word of mouth anymore. It's word of thumb.
- 1:00:09And what I'm trying to do really is I, I say in trainings, I'm
- 1:00:14not a promoter, right? But I promote races constantly.
- 1:00:18I'm a digital marketer. And what I'm trying to help the
- 1:00:22industry understand is number one, there are a lot more
- 1:00:26Motorsports fans out there than know where tracks are, right?
- 1:00:31And Andrew, you've probably had this experience and I, and I
- 1:00:33talked about this at the, the Michigan Promoters Association
- 1:00:36is how many times does a promoter meet somebody in the
- 1:00:40public less than 10 miles from a track?
- 1:00:43And the person asks them to say, what are you doing?
- 1:00:45They say, Hey, I, I promote the racetrack out on, you know, out
- 1:00:48on Route 50. And they're like, what
- 1:00:50racetrack? You know, even though it's been
- 1:00:52there, they probably drive by 10 * a month or whatever.
- 1:00:55And they, they just don't realize it because, you know,
- 1:00:58people kind of drive around in their bubbles and don't really
- 1:01:01notice anything. And, and, and it's just one of
- 1:01:03those things. So every single promoter has
- 1:01:05those experiences all the time. And what we're trying to do is,
- 1:01:09is get the casual Motorsports fan who thinks Motorsports is a
- 1:01:164 hour race on Saturday, one race green flag to checker and
- 1:01:21let them know that if they go to a grassroots track, they're
- 1:01:24going to see 345 classes of cars.
- 1:01:27They're going to see probably anywhere from 12 to 20 green
- 1:01:32flag to checker races. Their kids are going to be able
- 1:01:34to find their own Lightning McQueen and four different
- 1:01:37classes are racing and, and the family of four is probably going
- 1:01:42to spend a hundred 125 bucks and they're going to have admission,
- 1:01:44they're going to have food, they're going to have drinks And
- 1:01:48and that's like true value entertainment.
- 1:01:49What are they going to do? Go sit down at Chuck E Cheese
- 1:01:51and, and, and come out with like Pez pops or whatever after two
- 1:01:55hours or, or sit at Chili's and they're going to spend 150 bucks
- 1:01:59just on a, on a meal for an hour and that's it.
- 1:02:02And, and they're all probably going to be on their phones at
- 1:02:04the time while they're there. And that's, that's the, that's
- 1:02:08that true family entertainment value of grassroots racing that
- 1:02:11I think, I think as an industry, we all need to do a better job
- 1:02:14of, of letting people know, you know what, this is a hell of a
- 1:02:17damn good time. Why don't you come on out and
- 1:02:19try it? That's where I come from.
- 1:02:22You know, I think you're not wrong on that.
- 1:02:24You talk about the different entertainment venues at short
- 1:02:27track racing is against each other.
- 1:02:29But even in the Motorsports industry we're up.
- 1:02:32So I get so much competition with different age brackets.
- 1:02:35Now, like me and you are traditional race fans would love
- 1:02:38to be at a short track. We could probably tolerate a
- 1:02:41four hour show, but most fans are looking for 2 1/2 hours.
- 1:02:45You look at Grid Life, that was just at Judgerman this weekend.
- 1:02:50I saw some of the weekend passes for that.
- 1:02:52They were like $1200. It, it, it was sold out.
- 1:02:56I mean, they were near sell out. And there's what, probably 2530
- 1:03:00thousand people that go out there and that's you got to find
- 1:03:04your niche. You got to provide a, a program.
- 1:03:07It's easy to it's easy to get people in your venue, but it's
- 1:03:12hard to retain them if you don't put on a quality show.
- 1:03:18And Drew, that's interesting to hear you say that because it's,
- 1:03:21I, I, I have this discussion a lot of times with promoters and
- 1:03:24I'm like, how do you define a quality show?
- 1:03:28And I think the challenge is that what a promoter defines a
- 1:03:33quality show as is sometimes very different from what a
- 1:03:36casual Motorsports fan defines a great show as, right?
- 1:03:40So a lot of times I'll talk to a promoter and they're like, well,
- 1:03:43if I can't get 15 cars, I'm not going to run the class.
- 1:03:47And I'm thinking to myself, if you get a family of four who's
- 1:03:49never come to a track and they see 10 cars putting on a good
- 1:03:52race, they're going to have fun and they're going to be like,
- 1:03:55damn, that's cool, right? So I think there's, I think
- 1:03:59there's sometimes in the industry, we, we kind of get
- 1:04:02caught what we, what we want it to be versus what the fans are
- 1:04:08willing and, and, and, and, and entertained by, right.
- 1:04:12You know, is, is, is racing entertainment?
- 1:04:15Heck yeah, racing is entertaining, right?
- 1:04:20You got to fill the time in between the, in between the
- 1:04:22heats and all that stuff. Yeah, you got to fill it, do
- 1:04:24candy tosses. There's ways to do that
- 1:04:26creatively. It's a little harder to dirt
- 1:04:27track when you got to repack sometimes.
- 1:04:30But, you know, as long as you keep things moving, as long as
- 1:04:33you keep people engaged, yeah, I think it's I think it's a great
- 1:04:37thing. And and so many people would be
- 1:04:40absolutely surprised to the upside of how much excitement
- 1:04:44there is in a grassroots track. That's that's just me.
- 1:04:48No, absolutely. So you hit a lot of good points
- 1:04:51on there. Like a Hartford Speedway night
- 1:04:53of destruction, packed crowd went a little bit faster than
- 1:04:58what they wanted, so they had to buy some time for the fireworks
- 1:05:01and a little secret I used to announce, and I used to be OK at
- 1:05:06it. You're a very good announcer.
- 1:05:09And I don't like that there's only there's only one person
- 1:05:12that I'll pick a microphone up for, and that's Lee and Tim
- 1:05:14Dibble at Hartford Speedway. And Wayne Bond, great announcer,
- 1:05:18but he'll be the first one to tell you he's not an
- 1:05:20entertainer. He's he's an announcer and next
- 1:05:24thing I know, Lewis can probably attest us he's seen it.
- 1:05:26We had the place rocking with a dance contest and I hate
- 1:05:30attention. I don't like people being on me
- 1:05:32around me. I have like 100 kids.
- 1:05:34I couldn't get them off the flag stand.
- 1:05:36Leah came down and gave away. So we made the best out of a
- 1:05:39terrible situation. But that's what the the families
- 1:05:43will remember. Now the race fan are like, well,
- 1:05:45why did you why, why, why are we dancing and doing dance
- 1:05:48competition? Well, it was either that or sit
- 1:05:50in silence. And that's what a lot of track
- 1:05:52promoters you have to improvise. You can't just improve the one
- 1:05:55flag of motors. Russell's M40 Speedway big late
- 1:05:59model race. The traditional late model fans
- 1:06:01love that stuff. But if you get somebody like
- 1:06:04you're talking about that doesn't know the tracks that
- 1:06:05been there for 10 years, he drives by every day and we
- 1:06:08finally get him to that race, probably not coming back because
- 1:06:11that race took an hour and 45 minutes and they couldn't see
- 1:06:14the finish of it. Not the fault of the track
- 1:06:16drivers is the circumstance. Right.
- 1:06:18And, and you know, I think that that's, that's the changing
- 1:06:21mindset of people when we think about the heritage of grassroots
- 1:06:25racing, right? Grassroots racing has been
- 1:06:26around for 100 years and, and in some way, shape or form, right.
- 1:06:30And, and the people who've been promoting it successfully for so
- 1:06:35long had a, had a recipe that worked incredibly well, you
- 1:06:39know, for so many years. But you know, the, the launch
- 1:06:43of, you know, this, you know, mind meld thing that we all
- 1:06:47carry around. And, you know, I mean, I've got,
- 1:06:49I've got kids who are 22 and 25, people who have kids who are
- 1:06:53younger, who have grown, grown up on iPads.
- 1:06:55You know, it's, it's, it's one of those things of being able to
- 1:07:00kind of put yourself in the fan shoes of the new fan, not the
- 1:07:05other fan because you know, when, when grassroots tracks
- 1:07:09were packed back in the heyday, everybody loved it.
- 1:07:13It was the place where the community came together, right?
- 1:07:16That was that was the place. And Doug Rice from from the
- 1:07:19Performance Racing network from PRN told me one time, he said,
- 1:07:22Scott, he goes, what you got to understand about sticking ball
- 1:07:24sports versus Motorsports is like Motorsports, the tracks in
- 1:07:30the middle of nowhere. And that's where they were and
- 1:07:32that's where they started and, and people went to it and stick
- 1:07:37and ball sports are in the middle of the city.
- 1:07:38So everybody's there and they stay there.
- 1:07:40But when you're a track in the middle of nowhere, you know,
- 1:07:42everybody comes to it. Now, what's that causing that's
- 1:07:45causing the suburban sprawl? And then we need all these right
- 1:07:47to race rules and all that, you know, protections and all that
- 1:07:50stuff. Because as suburbs get closer,
- 1:07:52then people start to complain and noise and all that other
- 1:07:54stuff, which is a pain in the butt.
- 1:07:57So it's, it's a part of knowing who your core audience is, but
- 1:08:01also inviting in a new fan and knowing that they're going to be
- 1:08:04a little bit different from the person who's like, you got to
- 1:08:08keep it moving. You got to, you know, this is
- 1:08:10the track's got to be this. And, and, and that's the whole
- 1:08:14thing of finding that balance. And it can be hard.
- 1:08:16I, I'll tell you, I think promoters are the most
- 1:08:18underappreciated people in the world.
- 1:08:21I think the fans who, you know, do the keyboard warrior stuff,
- 1:08:24they don't have a clue or they maybe they do have a clue and
- 1:08:27they just don't want to listen. But at the same time, if you can
- 1:08:34find that balance and you can make the, the, the new fans
- 1:08:37happy and bring them in, you can, I think, I think we can be
- 1:08:41in a place. I mean, Drew, you guys got
- 1:08:4450,000 people, you know, following the Kalamazoo page
- 1:08:46right on on Facebook. The reality is, I mean, you
- 1:08:50can't fit 50,000 people in the stands and you probably got a
- 1:08:52ton of people from outside of, you know, far away from
- 1:08:56Kalamazoo just because some of the crazy stuff you guys do
- 1:08:58there. But the reality is there 40 mile
- 1:09:02circle around Kalamazoo, there's eight other tracks, but there's
- 1:09:0661,000 NASCAR fans in that circle, right?
- 1:09:1161,000 fans amongst 8 tracks. My God, you could sell all of
- 1:09:16them out, you'd have 30,000 fans leftover.
- 1:09:21But I think one of the, I think one of the challenges that
- 1:09:24sometimes we end up with is, is I think, and I've talked to
- 1:09:26promoters who've told me this and, and they're like, well, I,
- 1:09:30you know, tracks can't run on the same nights because they
- 1:09:31don't want to, you know, they don't want to lose fans to
- 1:09:34another, they don't want to lose racers to another track.
- 1:09:36Obviously that's a big thing. But at the same time, I think, I
- 1:09:42think when you open your eyes beyond just the core loyal
- 1:09:46grassroots fan, the number of casual Motorsports fans who are
- 1:09:51the ones that we're trying to reach out to, those are the ones
- 1:09:54that are the future of the front gate at grassroots Motorsports
- 1:09:57from my opinion. No, you're absolutely right.
- 1:10:01It's so hard to let alone get new people in the building.
- 1:10:05I'll give you an example. Media's tough, like getting rent
- 1:10:10TV. I have a decent relationship
- 1:10:13with the sports director in Kalamazoo, and I called him,
- 1:10:16hey, can we get some coverage on this?
- 1:10:17Well, you know, this guy's out of the office.
- 1:10:20I dropped that guy that, you know, from Portage, MI's name.
- 1:10:23C, You know, Carson. Oh, wow.
- 1:10:26Yeah, wow. Absolutely.
- 1:10:28We'll cover something with that. And it just that boggles my
- 1:10:33mind. Like, we can help each other.
- 1:10:36Like even TV over the year, radio, TV is dying.
- 1:10:42We can help each other. We don't want to be extinct
- 1:10:44together. That's just it's a struggle for
- 1:10:47any short track. And you, you imagine what was
- 1:10:50it? Wake County, that's in a big
- 1:10:52metropolitan area rally. That cocktail night that they
- 1:10:55did or something that that and they ended up with the bar night
- 1:10:58or whatever. I, I forget what the
- 1:10:59circumstance were around. You probably divide them and I
- 1:11:01do. The same thing they don't.
- 1:11:03They're making their own media coverage.
- 1:11:05They had that. I don't know if you were at RPM
- 1:11:08when that they were telling the story about this Tik Toker that
- 1:11:11came out to the racetrack, which unannounced did a video and what
- 1:11:16we'll say it wasn't the clientele they were expecting.
- 1:11:19And it was a great time they were out there just because that
- 1:11:21one Tik Toker had brought a very different demographic of race
- 1:11:26fan and it packed the place. They they honestly were shocked
- 1:11:29and very excited and made 30,000 new race fans.
- 1:11:35There's 10,000 new race fans, whoever showed up that night all
- 1:11:38because of that Tik Toker. And, and you know what?
- 1:11:41And that's The thing is, and I, and I, I use this in some of my,
- 1:11:44my trainings that I've done is you can find your local
- 1:11:48influencers, right? Like Sycamore Speedway.
- 1:11:50And this wasn't even something that they did Sycamore Speedway
- 1:11:53up in, up in Illinois here last year.
- 1:11:55They had a woman come out. She calls herself the the modern
- 1:11:58day mom is her handle on TikTok. Every day she goes to a
- 1:12:02different place, she takes her kids, her family or whatever.
- 1:12:04She ended up going to Sycamore one night unannounced.
- 1:12:08She brought her kids and she put the the the TikTok up.
- 1:12:11That TikTok got 400,000 views and and most of her most of her
- 1:12:17Tik Toks had, you know, 20-30, forty thousand.
- 1:12:20I mean, she had a good following.
- 1:12:21She's built it since then. But but it's absolutely amazing
- 1:12:25how she just put it out as look from her the perspective of her
- 1:12:29kids watching the race and she's got a, a a following of just
- 1:12:34moms, right? Like how many tracks actually
- 1:12:37build a night around moms and kids, right.
- 1:12:41I know some tracks do you know, but it's like, you know, make it
- 1:12:45Lightning McQueen nightmare or come, come dressed as your
- 1:12:48favorite Disney character or whatever and and have Disney
- 1:12:51character stuffed animals hanging out of cars.
- 1:12:53You know, I just, it's little stuff like that, that just, you
- 1:12:56know, it's definitely different from the old school.
- 1:12:59Hey, we're here to race mindset, right?
- 1:13:02These are races. It's dirty, it's it's greasy,
- 1:13:05it's grimy, it's it's loud. But you know what, it's also
- 1:13:08fun. And, and those racers are having
- 1:13:10fun too. They just have fun from a
- 1:13:12different perspective. So it's just, it's just
- 1:13:14everybody figuring out how to how to enjoy that together.
- 1:13:17And I think there's so much upside for grassroots racing and
- 1:13:20you know, where a lot of people are kind of thinking, oh man,
- 1:13:22it's so hard. There's a track for sale every
- 1:13:24day. I think the upside's there, and
- 1:13:26that's what we're trying to do, is just get more of those casual
- 1:13:29fans to realize, wow, there's something pretty cool near me.
- 1:13:34Yeah, the problem is it's trying to follow in the balance between
- 1:13:37the the casual fan and the traditional fan, because the
- 1:13:40traditional fan doesn't want any change and doesn't have an
- 1:13:43understanding. It's the same thing in all
- 1:13:45sports. Hockey, basketball, you, you
- 1:13:48look at all the minor leagues of pro teams, they always have
- 1:13:50something constantly going on from the time the game starts to
- 1:13:54a be a time out to intermission. And people get annoyed by that.
- 1:13:59But 90% of the people there are to drink a beer and eat a hot
- 1:14:03dog and hang out with their friends and there just happens
- 1:14:05to be a sporting event going on front.
- 1:14:07It doesn't matter if it's racing.
- 1:14:09Berlin is a perfect example of that.
- 1:14:11They built a social spot. Yes, they get big race for die
- 1:14:17hard fans, but Berlin is a different market because there's
- 1:14:21a lot of different upscale bars and restaurants and they
- 1:14:24transition Berlin Raceway into that with their bar.
- 1:14:27Just look at what Kenny Wallace posted this weekend.
- 1:14:30It's an experience sitting there.
- 1:14:31They got a live band playing while the racetrack is going on,
- 1:14:34got a bar outside that's serving you drinks and you just happen
- 1:14:37to have race cars going around. So it makes it a cool ambi nuts
- 1:14:40and experience. Yeah, I mean, you think about
- 1:14:45it's an entertainment district in one little place, you know,
- 1:14:48all in one. I mean, and tracks, you know
- 1:14:51what tracks can kind of do. I mean, how much does it cost
- 1:14:54for a karaoke machine, right? I mean, you can buy a karaoke
- 1:14:57machine for 400 bucks and and during intermissions, you can
- 1:15:00have fans doing karaoke in the midway while they're waiting in
- 1:15:03line for hot dogs. You know, you know, you put a
- 1:15:06couple of put a couple of, you know, 2 by 10s on top of a
- 1:15:10couple of buckets. Well, obviously you don't want
- 1:15:12to do that because the insurance people don't like something that
- 1:15:14shit. I don't think they've they were
- 1:15:18any of those guys are listening to this right now.
- 1:15:20But but little things like that, like there's so much Knights of
- 1:15:28Destruction, monster trucks, those plays, things are going to
- 1:15:31pack every track, right? Everybody wants to see Sunday,
- 1:15:35Sunday, Sunday, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, you know, all
- 1:15:38that stuff. But I think I think what we what
- 1:15:43we got to understand is it doesn't take that to get people
- 1:15:47excited, right? You can get people excited with
- 1:15:50something a little bit less and just keep them engaged and make
- 1:15:53sure they're having a good time. You know, there's downtime
- 1:15:56during and even destruction, right?
- 1:15:58There's it happens. I mean, they got to, they got to
- 1:16:01move the rec trucks off, they got, you know, all that other
- 1:16:03stuff. So there's downtime during all
- 1:16:04of it. It's it's Motorsports.
- 1:16:06I mean, you know what, there's downtime in baseball games in
- 1:16:08between every inning, twice actually, there's 18 gaps in a,
- 1:16:13in a, in a baseball game that people have to deal with.
- 1:16:16So you know what? The Savannah Bananas have
- 1:16:19figured out how to make that entertaining, too.
- 1:16:21And to your point, what you're talking about, I'm, I announced
- 1:16:24at the new Paris Speedway here in Indiana on Saturday.
- 1:16:26And they just started a new tradition last week where at the
- 1:16:29intermission they bring 1. The featured class of the week
- 1:16:31comes up and they have a meet and greet underneath the tower.
- 1:16:35The Hornet drivers this week we're bringing hero cards.
- 1:16:37Ray Roberts, who has a Ninja Turtle car, had pizza boxes
- 1:16:40stickered up like the Ninja Turtles with candy in it.
- 1:16:42And that's something that doesn't cost the track anything
- 1:16:44to do. And then those kids go back to
- 1:16:46school in the spring and they tell the other kids what they
- 1:16:48saw at the racetrack. That's what makes a difference,
- 1:16:50like you said. So I just wanted to reiterate
- 1:16:52your point, I guess. And you know what I thought,
- 1:16:54honestly, I thought that that was like a regular staple of, of
- 1:16:58what happens at grassroots race. I mean, have racers kind of stop
- 1:17:00being willing to do that stuff because I think that.
- 1:17:03I don't know that the racers are necessarily aren't willing to do
- 1:17:07it. I just think tracks anymore.
- 1:17:10And then this, this goes back to what we were saying earlier
- 1:17:12about getting through the show, but tracks are so focused on
- 1:17:14getting through the show that there's not really the time for
- 1:17:17the drivers go up and walk through the stands and meet fans
- 1:17:20and hand stuff out like there used to be.
- 1:17:22In my opinion, I'm not a promoter.
- 1:17:24So the the first time I went to Sycamore Speedway when I moved
- 1:17:27out to Illinois, it was back in probably 2004, 2005.
- 1:17:32I was in the stands and then when we walked out, the, the
- 1:17:37drivers who are already done, they hadn't left.
- 1:17:40They had literally just moved their trucks and their trailers
- 1:17:43out into the parking lot and had them lined along the parking lot
- 1:17:47so people could see the cars as you're going to there because
- 1:17:50you know, it's Sycamore. The the pits are way in the back
- 1:17:52and the, and the parking lots way in the front, like like in a
- 1:17:55lot of tracks. And you know, I in the last four
- 1:17:59to five years, I think sometimes promoters are under appreciated.
- 1:18:04Promoters are over taxed and under resourced and they've got
- 1:18:07so many things going on. You know what, I think people
- 1:18:09don't realize how many things racers have going on too before
- 1:18:12and after shows, you know, they got to get packed up, maybe they
- 1:18:15got to go drive 2 hours or three hours or whatever.
- 1:18:18So that's, that's a part of it too.
- 1:18:20So, you know, I think I just, I love what grassroots racing
- 1:18:25offers for entertainment, you know, and I think Drew just went
- 1:18:30out to try and do some promotion.
- 1:18:31Drew's. Trying to get people in the
- 1:18:34stands right now. Man, some of the things that I
- 1:18:38hear when he talks about the promoters Association and the
- 1:18:40things that they're doing, it's just like, wow, I was, I was
- 1:18:43going through the the Kalamazoo Facebook page earlier and I saw
- 1:18:47those pictures of the Stacker cars.
- 1:18:48I'm like, I think, I think late June, I'm going to be heading to
- 1:18:50Kalamazoo. I mean, I'm only a couple hours
- 1:18:52away. I got to see those things.
- 1:18:54That's. Worth the truth?
- 1:18:56Well, and I know where you come off from Stacker races right on
- 1:18:58top of racing Media's YouTube channel, but that's where yeah,
- 1:19:02they're awesome. But this I'm I'm kind of sad
- 1:19:05it's, you know, more of a demo Derby with them, like it's going
- 1:19:08to be a final send off. But they I.
- 1:19:10I think it's just a final send off to the fleet.
- 1:19:12I'm not saying they're not going to ever do Oh.
- 1:19:15No, but yeah, but this fleet, they've had some stories to
- 1:19:17tell. And if you've not seen a stacker
- 1:19:20race guy, I haven't, it is well worth it.
- 1:19:22I had one clip one time that went wild.
- 1:19:25I want to say an Oh my. God, some of that, some of that
- 1:19:30racing from England that you see, what do they call it?
- 1:19:32They're just banger racing. Yeah.
- 1:19:35Oh my God, They just took the crap out of each other.
- 1:19:40There's a guy stuck on the wall and everybody else is just
- 1:19:42purposely driving into the guy stuck on the wall.
- 1:19:44That's the same. There's like right?
- 1:19:46That's left of the. Car right?
- 1:19:48Scott, you were kind of talk about is, you know, what does it
- 1:19:50look like sometimes at grassroots like when Buju was
- 1:19:53sharing? And so we have Jr.
- 1:19:54Hayes who commented like nowadays, and this is something
- 1:19:57Boujee and I've talked about. Nowadays, most cars are in are
- 1:20:00in closed trailers, which hides the cars when driving down the
- 1:20:04trailways. And we've kind of talked about
- 1:20:05and I even think someone at at PRII think said it this way.
- 1:20:10If not, it's at the Michigan Promoter Association is you
- 1:20:12don't know whether it's maybe it was even you, Scott, that you
- 1:20:15don't know whether it's a race car or a lawnmower service.
- 1:20:18Like you just don't know before. And now I know, and I was
- 1:20:22telling this to bury with Great Lakes Super sprints, I think.
- 1:20:25I know when when they're in town at Hartford because as I'm going
- 1:20:29to Kalamazoo, it's like a convoy coming down or westbound going
- 1:20:34towards Hartford. I said you just see trailer
- 1:20:36after trailer and you definitely know it's a Sprint car.
- 1:20:38But it's one thing that I kind of mentioned and I know it costs
- 1:20:41money. So I I'm.
- 1:20:42Yeah, the wraps. You know, wraps cost money to do
- 1:20:45that and but it's like even if you went a little cheaper and
- 1:20:49just even put numbers on the trailer to show that it is a
- 1:20:53race trailer or, or something even on the back.
- 1:20:56It doesn't have to be super fancy.
- 1:20:58It doesn't have to be wrapped all the way.
- 1:20:59But that's one thing that I during COVID, I remember this
- 1:21:03driving back from South Bend because Michigan was closed
- 1:21:07down. You can't race anywhere but
- 1:21:09Anna. They were wide open.
- 1:21:10They're welcoming everybody. And so, so literally I just
- 1:21:14crossed the border and to South, you know, and went to South Bend
- 1:21:18and, but coming on my way home, all the cars going back to
- 1:21:21Michigan and it's like, oh, that's race car.
- 1:21:23It reminded me of like growing, growing up at Santa Fe Speedway,
- 1:21:27you knew when the pulled in and you knew when the Izzos pulled
- 1:21:31out and when the Izzo pulled out, everybody else pretty much
- 1:21:33left, right, Like they waited around for the Izzo family and
- 1:21:36hung around with them. Or Schuler's down at Grundy
- 1:21:39County. You just had all these guys who
- 1:21:41did all these things. And so that's one thing that I
- 1:21:43definitely, you know, impacts. I have noticed more open
- 1:21:48trailers lately at even at Kalamazoo, I mean, there's still
- 1:21:50a ton of enclosed, but I've noticed more and more some and,
- 1:21:55you know, open trailers where cars are coming in and it's
- 1:21:57like, man, that's just, it's like old days.
- 1:21:58And I love that, right? And I just kind of wish that
- 1:22:02there's a way to you maybe can't bring that back because it's
- 1:22:05already the box is already open, right?
- 1:22:08You know, and I know enclosed trailers, you can literally put
- 1:22:10houses in there of everything you need tools and all that.
- 1:22:13And I get the convenience and the cooling factor, but it's
- 1:22:16like, but how is it differentiate from a lawn mower
- 1:22:20service or how does it differentiate from a lawn care
- 1:22:22service or you know, so I think sometimes that's how fans can
- 1:22:25feel disconnected. And even too after the races,
- 1:22:28like at Kalamazoo, our pits are open as soon as the races are
- 1:22:31done, you can go down, but half the half the trailers are
- 1:22:34zooming out of there, you know, ready to go home.
- 1:22:37And I get it's a long day, especially on a Friday.
- 1:22:39I totally understand. But one idea I told Chris and
- 1:22:43Tracy is, you know, what, if we offered some kind of incentive,
- 1:22:47I said I'll help fund it. It could be like a sponsorship
- 1:22:49or whatever, some kind of a sense of that 15 minutes, 1520
- 1:22:53minutes after the races, the new Paris pits are open.
- 1:22:57Keep the drivers there. And, you know, try to try to get
- 1:23:01fans to interact with the drivers.
- 1:23:03You know, 1520 minutes isn't long.
- 1:23:04You're not going to get to everybody.
- 1:23:07But can fans get to enough people or find their favorite
- 1:23:10driver, their favorite car, You know, otherwise, you know, by
- 1:23:14the time fans get there, like Bozell's hang around sex, hang
- 1:23:17around at Kalamazoo, some do, but a lot of the pitch empty.
- 1:23:21And it's just like, well, no wonder fans don't know who you
- 1:23:24are other than in the car because there there's very
- 1:23:26little chance. So what are some things that
- 1:23:29you've seen while you're going around to all these tracks that
- 1:23:32maybe a track does really well before the races or after the
- 1:23:36races for fan engagement with drivers?
- 1:23:39Oh man, you know what? And this is where I'm going to
- 1:23:42look really sad on this because when the races aren't going on,
- 1:23:46I'm walking through the pits taking tons of pictures to
- 1:23:48share. So I mean, I've had, you know,
- 1:23:53obviously the, the candy throw from the, the flag stand is a
- 1:23:56big thing, right? That's, that's a huge thing.
- 1:23:58Limbo contest. Here's here's some things that
- 1:24:02I've actually talked with tracks about doing, but I haven't seen
- 1:24:04them do. And, and this is a way to get
- 1:24:06the younger people in. Like if you're a track and
- 1:24:09you've got 4 high schools within 25 miles, why not invite their
- 1:24:13quarterbacks to come and have a, a, a throwing contest to see who
- 1:24:18can throw the ball the most times through the tire that's
- 1:24:21mounted 20 yards away, right? So you get, you know, do it, do
- 1:24:26it three weeks in a row. Bring 2 high schools in one
- 1:24:28week, 2 high schools in another week.
- 1:24:29They're all gonna bring their team mates and their, their
- 1:24:31friends and everything to see if they can win.
- 1:24:34And then, you know, and then the final, the, the last night, I
- 1:24:37mean, little things like that, that don't take more than 10
- 1:24:40minutes, right? But give that quarterback 10
- 1:24:42tickets for him and his friends, right?
- 1:24:45And then all their friends are gonna come too, you know,
- 1:24:47they're, you know, give them a special BOGO, whatever it is.
- 1:24:50But you'll get, you'll get kids to school that have never been
- 1:24:53there before, right? You know, play a little T-ball
- 1:24:57on the front stretch, right? I mean, little things like that.
- 1:25:02I think there's this, there's this misnomer that it's either
- 1:25:05racing or it's sticking ball sports.
- 1:25:07Racing is not a sticking ball sport.
- 1:25:08It can't be marketed like it. But you know what?
- 1:25:10The people who like those sticking ball sports, we can
- 1:25:14market to them. Why don't we bring what they
- 1:25:16like into our world and let them see it, right?
- 1:25:20I mean, you get 2 high school quarterbacks, they got pretty
- 1:25:24big egos. They're going to want to win
- 1:25:25that, right? They're not going to want to
- 1:25:27lose. They're going to want all their
- 1:25:28friends there. But you know what?
- 1:25:31Just you know, and you put a couple of Hoosier, you get
- 1:25:32Hoosier to sponsor it, right? Put a couple of Hoosier tires,
- 1:25:35put one circle on the, you know, on the top or whatever and see
- 1:25:38who can throw in from furthest away and just keep moving away
- 1:25:40until they get, you know, who can throw it the furthest away.
- 1:25:44There's not really any insurance risk there at all.
- 1:25:46It's just tires mounted in a football, for crying out loud.
- 1:25:50So just engaging things like that, right?
- 1:25:54And that's what it's about. It's just giving people
- 1:25:56something to root for when when the cars aren't running.
- 1:25:59Well, I don't know, New Paris, they have a football team who
- 1:26:02uses their facility for training.
- 1:26:05They do like bicycle training and all that where they, they
- 1:26:09use the facility. And I went, So what if before,
- 1:26:12because Indiana starts football before Michigan, I said, you
- 1:26:16know, what if you know their final week before their first
- 1:26:20game, What if you had them come out on their bikes, give them
- 1:26:23all free tickets or you've already used your facility all
- 1:26:25summer. Have them come out and do a race
- 1:26:28to the finish. You know, the OR you know, race
- 1:26:31to the start of the season or whatever, like that final lap,
- 1:26:33you know, you've done it all. Now it's time to go, you know,
- 1:26:37now it's time to play the game, take all your training that we
- 1:26:39put together. And so I'm going to try to
- 1:26:41remind them of that because I know the local football team was
- 1:26:44using their facility to do that kind of stuff and they loved it
- 1:26:47and enjoyed it. It's like that's one community
- 1:26:50service. So that's promoting something
- 1:26:51you've done in the community that this is, this can be a
- 1:26:54community facility. It's not just the track out in
- 1:26:57the backwoods, but you know, and I know insurance dictates some
- 1:27:02of what can and can't happen at a track and and that's something
- 1:27:05insurance, but I know there's some things that, you know, like
- 1:27:08I brought up, well, insurance won't allow that.
- 1:27:10Well, this track can do it, but that track does actually have
- 1:27:13different insurance. So maybe they what they can do
- 1:27:15and what they can do are completely different.
- 1:27:16But and it gets frustrating where it's like, well, there's
- 1:27:19only two of them and the whole United States that does that.
- 1:27:21Can't they like have some things in common, you know, like to
- 1:27:25allow and not allow for fan engagement.
- 1:27:26That's still safe. And so I might pass on that idea
- 1:27:29because I do know the football team is use their use their
- 1:27:32track and stuff. It's like, hey, that could be
- 1:27:35something cool. Or get a county Elkhart County
- 1:27:38invite, get all the quarterbacks from the area.
- 1:27:40You know, they're already doing 7 on 7.
- 1:27:43You know, have them come out there and maybe do some kind of
- 1:27:46competition, you know, roll, tire roll.
- 1:27:48Little skills test. Yeah, You know, something that,
- 1:27:51you know, then you're getting schools engaged.
- 1:27:53And you know, and I know that something that's coming out of
- 1:27:56KRI was an idea that I had after hearing the high school racer.
- 1:28:02I forget his name right now. Jonathan Eckleburg.
- 1:28:05And Yep, you know, hearing him and then hearing what attracted
- 1:28:09with their buses, where the schools designed the buses and
- 1:28:12it was a rivalry and you know, the money raised went towards
- 1:28:16that school or whatever that, you know, the schools got into
- 1:28:19it. So I think there's just a lot of
- 1:28:21different things, but it's, you know, it's one, as you said,
- 1:28:23tracks are under resourced. I you know, that's not, I mean,
- 1:28:27look at you go to McDonald's or Burger King and they're under
- 1:28:29resourced and they're corporations.
- 1:28:31So now you're talking about, you know, most tracks in this area,
- 1:28:34the owners are still working. They don't get just sit around
- 1:28:37all day and do nothing except racing.
- 1:28:39Like they have full time jobs. They have different things.
- 1:28:41So I get it's a resource thing, but it's like, but what little
- 1:28:44can you, you know, what little planning things can you do or
- 1:28:47find somebody who's willing, which maybe it's harder to do
- 1:28:50too, but you know, find someone who's willing to take this on
- 1:28:53and say, I'll make that my project.
- 1:28:54You know, I'm willing to make that project.
- 1:28:56You get a football mom behind that, they'll make that their
- 1:28:58project. If they're, you know, if their
- 1:29:00son can be out in front of a couple hundreds of 1000 people,
- 1:29:03that's exposure, you know, you know, it's exposure for the
- 1:29:07teams, you know, let them come out and something while they're
- 1:29:10there, 5050, whatever. So, so yeah, that's why I wanted
- 1:29:14to ask that because I know everyone's always thinking of
- 1:29:16ideas, but you know, while we're kind of talking about it and you
- 1:29:20know what drivers can do, it's also, you know, you get to
- 1:29:23travel around, you get to see these different things.
- 1:29:25Something that stood out to you were like, hey, that's actually
- 1:29:28a pretty good idea. Or hey, I liked how they did
- 1:29:30that. There was a, there was a track
- 1:29:32who was actually working on an idea to they have a, a local
- 1:29:36technical industrial school. It's a community knowledge
- 1:29:39technical industrial school. They were gonna have a, a table
- 1:29:43building contest at halftime. They were going to do a bracket.
- 1:29:45They had like, you know, because woodworking was one of the, one
- 1:29:48of the specialties in carpentry, whatever.
- 1:29:50So they were actually going to do where you, you know, the
- 1:29:52track provides the wood in the bolts or whatever, right?
- 1:29:55And it's all the same plan. So, you know, and it was who
- 1:29:58could put the table together quickest.
- 1:30:01And you know, you get, you get 4 people doing it at the same time
- 1:30:05and you get the entire college to come on out and see who's,
- 1:30:08you know, who went in quicker, right?
- 1:30:10I mean, they get the college to sponsor it.
- 1:30:12They get the, they get the materials, you know, and, and
- 1:30:15the local lumber stores sponsor it.
- 1:30:17There's so many different things you can do just to get other
- 1:30:21people engaged. You don't always have to go and
- 1:30:23just root for the racers. You can root for the fans who
- 1:30:25are doing the silly stuff too, you know, and that just, that
- 1:30:29just comes. I'll tell you where that comes
- 1:30:30from. For me, that comes from, I
- 1:30:32worked in radio for 10 years and we had to come up with silly,
- 1:30:36stupid games to entertain people at radio remotes.
- 1:30:41You know, that's, that's where that comes from.
- 1:30:43It's like, what can we do with no budget to try and just get
- 1:30:47people engaged? And you get a bunch of fans of a
- 1:30:49radio station and they'll do anything.
- 1:30:50You know, they'll just have fun as long as they can win a couple
- 1:30:52tickets to a concert or AT shirt or a, a, a bumper sticker.
- 1:30:56It's amazing how how little can motivate people.
- 1:31:00Absolutely. But I, I, I, I think the biggest
- 1:31:05issue that we run into is a lot of promoters are their own
- 1:31:10groundskeepers, their marketing. Team.
- 1:31:14And on top of it, they probably own a successful business.
- 1:31:18For them to be able to keep the racetrack open, there's not very
- 1:31:21many people that work as not a factor into their racetrack.
- 1:31:28So these are all great ideas, but it's implementing it and
- 1:31:31that's it's hard to do. And not everybody is a Berlin
- 1:31:36Raceway or Madison International Speedway that has full time
- 1:31:40staff or that's what they do for a living.
- 1:31:43So how, how would you suggest to a promoter that's in that
- 1:31:49situation, Scott, that they can make the best of a situation and
- 1:31:53do some of the stuff we're talking about tonight?
- 1:31:56So one of the things that so my kids played youth soccer, right
- 1:31:59when I was when they were growing up, one of the things
- 1:32:01that a lot of the, the facilities, minor League
- 1:32:03Baseball parks and even the Chicago Fire did it, you know,
- 1:32:07soccer teams, they invited non profits to come and work the
- 1:32:13concession stands, right. The nonprofit got a cut of the
- 1:32:17concessions for the night, but they ran the concession stand.
- 1:32:20I mean, they had, they had, they had their, you know, their
- 1:32:22regular staffers, whatever, but it was a volunteer thing.
- 1:32:26The, the rest of the, the soccer club gets a discount ticket for
- 1:32:29the night or whatever if they're not working it per SE.
- 1:32:32But I mean, why not invite the local PTA to come on out?
- 1:32:36And hey, you know what, we, we would love for you guys to come
- 1:32:39on out and, and have a game night with the kids of your, of
- 1:32:43your school or whatever. I think that there's, but then
- 1:32:45again, like you said, Drew, I mean, who's the one who
- 1:32:48organizes that, right? So there's all these different
- 1:32:52ways to do it, but it's a matter of I, I, I think it's a matter
- 1:32:56of picking one thing and making it a priority, you know, because
- 1:33:03the time, I mean, you can't make a 25th dollar out of a day.
- 1:33:05I, and I get that piece of it. And, and you're absolutely
- 1:33:08right, very few tracks have more than one full time staff member.
- 1:33:13But I think there's ways, you know, just to, to engage people.
- 1:33:17Local nonprofits are always looking for ways to raise money
- 1:33:21and if and if it's worth giving up, you know, 5% of concessions
- 1:33:26for a night to have labor that's volunteer.
- 1:33:29I don't know, is that worth it or not?
- 1:33:30Or, or, or to run a game or whatever.
- 1:33:33You know, I, I don't know if it's worth it or not.
- 1:33:35Like I said, I'm, I'm not in those shoes and I don't have a
- 1:33:38clue what it's like. But I think if promoters looked
- 1:33:43at it and said, OK, is there someone that we know who's an
- 1:33:47entertaining son of a gun, right?
- 1:33:49Like, would that person want to do it right?
- 1:33:52You know, who's the class clown at the local high school that
- 1:33:55wants to, you know, have a little stage or, you know, who's
- 1:33:58the local karaoke star who wants to, you know, kind of put on
- 1:34:01some things or whatever, you know?
- 1:34:03But what? But like you said, Drew, I, I, I
- 1:34:05totally appreciate that. It's like a vast majority of
- 1:34:11race tracks are the second or third business of successful
- 1:34:15business owners. And, and that's the reality of
- 1:34:18the grassroots industry, but I also think that's what kind of
- 1:34:22makes it a little bit more personal too, because people get
- 1:34:25to know each other. And I think I think as much as
- 1:34:27that can be a challenge, I think it can also be a strength too,
- 1:34:31because the more people that a promoter can invite in to get to
- 1:34:36know what's going on and be a part of it and feel like they're
- 1:34:38a part of it. You know what, sometimes I think
- 1:34:41that might help along in the long term.
- 1:34:43But you know, you never know. Like I said, I haven't been
- 1:34:45there and, and you've lived it a lot more than I have.
- 1:34:48So you can, you can, you can, you can critique my thoughts all
- 1:34:52you want on that one for. Sure you know prime example, our
- 1:34:56owner of Kalamazoo, he's a successful trucking business
- 1:34:59guy, towing business guy Saturday through Friday till
- 1:35:03about 2:00. But the fans will know him
- 1:35:05because he's been on that grill, grill and steak on a stick and
- 1:35:08hamburgers for six years that he's on the racetrack now.
- 1:35:13So I mean, that's and it's all family that's in the concession
- 1:35:17stand. So it it's a family business if
- 1:35:21they like it or not. But at the time, the fans get to
- 1:35:24know and see who our owner is and personalize with them, good,
- 1:35:27bad or indifferent. But it is, you know, Greg
- 1:35:33Mccarns always at the front gate at the end of the way.
- 1:35:36He's taking a hand that goes a long way.
- 1:35:38You know. There's it's just a, a tough
- 1:35:43sport that we're in. And I think people like you,
- 1:35:45Lewis, myself and Buju, you know, we got to keep finding
- 1:35:50people like us because, you know, I'm kind of depressed
- 1:35:54that, you know, in about two years, it'll be my 30th class
- 1:35:57reunion. And I don't feel that old, but
- 1:35:59I'm getting married. So I do have a couple of a
- 1:36:04couple years on you that I don't feel so old anymore.
- 1:36:07Actually, I feel older. My God.
- 1:36:10Oh, by the way, we both. Know we both didn't have Matt
- 1:36:13and know Alan Brown. That makes us old.
- 1:36:14Yeah, this. Year, you're right about that
- 1:36:18and and by the way, I got to say Buju, some of those videos that
- 1:36:21you've put out, man, those those historical videos, the first one
- 1:36:25that I saw that you did was the one of of the the forgotten
- 1:36:28racetrack near O'Hare at Chicago.
- 1:36:31I mean I had no freaking clue that that existed and I was
- 1:36:35like, wow, that's amazing. Like in the some of the stuff
- 1:36:39that you're putting out. Kudos to you man.
- 1:36:41And and I think understanding the history, you know, you
- 1:36:47mentioned the Lewis, you mentioned the the track in, in
- 1:36:51in the Chicago suburbs. Well, some.
- 1:36:54Blue Island. No, not Blue Island.
- 1:36:57Santa Fe. Yeah, I mean, I never knew that
- 1:37:00existed because I didn't move to Chicago until 2000, till right
- 1:37:03around 2000 or whatever. When we were looking for houses,
- 1:37:08we were looking in that area because they were, they were
- 1:37:11literally building houses on the property that used to be Santa
- 1:37:14Fe. And they were like, yeah, this
- 1:37:15used to be a racetrack. And I was like, really.
- 1:37:18Yeah, you know, and it's, and now it's just like all like,
- 1:37:21really. I mean, back then they were
- 1:37:23actually affordable. Now.
- 1:37:24No way. Yeah, yeah, there is a
- 1:37:27historical marker there if you've never seen the.
- 1:37:29Historical. Yeah.
- 1:37:31Dedicated one? No.
- 1:37:33Five years ago, 6 maybe. It's.
- 1:37:36Like that, but there is a marker there.
- 1:37:37But yeah, all they did is they elevated the land to build it
- 1:37:40above the track because it was contaminated land.
- 1:37:42So I mean, they did a couple different things to get around
- 1:37:45all the laws and everything to do that.
- 1:37:47But yeah, there that was a sad situation, but I do know the
- 1:37:52legacy at least still lives on there.
- 1:37:54But that's where we had Brian Cusaban a few weeks ago.
- 1:37:57Who's the promoter down or excuse me, race director down at
- 1:38:00Grundy County Speedway and gone to Ileana.
- 1:38:03Well, Ileana is gone. He went to Blue Island.
- 1:38:05Blue Islands gone. Like there's so many tracks that
- 1:38:08are gone that, you know, at least with, you know, Buju
- 1:38:12putting in the groundwork on some of these that, you know,
- 1:38:14people are able to learn about them and see them.
- 1:38:17And I did let Buju know right away at the MSPA meeting where
- 1:38:21you gave credit and a highlight, like, you know, this video that
- 1:38:24he did for the right to race in Indiana.
- 1:38:27And there was another media person there who thought we
- 1:38:30shouldn't do that. But oh, wow, we did it anyways.
- 1:38:33And some people want the credit for themselves and not want to
- 1:38:38share it with anyone else. And that's OK.
- 1:38:40But. PRPRI ended actually ended up
- 1:38:44sharing that Tom Deary shared that video he got their he got
- 1:38:48their their legal people and who are doing all the right to raise
- 1:38:51stuff in in Washington DC kind of sharing it and everything Yep
- 1:38:54and so for. It right?
- 1:38:57Oh no, you do good stuff. I appreciate it guys.
- 1:39:00I do. I wish you'd do more Bujo, I
- 1:39:02know it's a lot to do. I'm I'm about 3/4 of the one.
- 1:39:06I got about 3/4 of the way through a video part of 1 today,
- 1:39:09so we're close to another. One because those I I don't take
- 1:39:13a lot of time to watch that kind of stuff, but you got me to stop
- 1:39:16and waiting for the next one you've done.
- 1:39:17Some and they're. Not new YouTube channel that
- 1:39:22he's getting going to. So they're not only on Facebook,
- 1:39:24but they're a lot easier to find on YouTube and they're his work.
- 1:39:27They're not my work. So I will never take credit for
- 1:39:29what he does. He is all behind that.
- 1:39:30But he did one on Montville and I reached out to him almost
- 1:39:34immediately and I said, you know, what if you you know to
- 1:39:37help him grow, right? What if you did something like
- 1:39:39that on top row use my platform that I've been able to build to
- 1:39:43help build his brand, right? You know, I'm not against
- 1:39:46helping others. And he's a day one.
- 1:39:48He's even prior to day one top row.
- 1:39:50So he's been here since the very beginning and part of the
- 1:39:54inspiration behind the the circle logo with the 70s retro
- 1:39:58look. And so, so it's one of those
- 1:40:01things that it's like, you know, you're someone who's been here
- 1:40:03since day one and then, you know, look at that like.
- 1:40:06He could have probably got that reach on his own, but then by
- 1:40:08using, you know, top row, you know, Chicago got out there,
- 1:40:11that right to a race got out there, all those different
- 1:40:13things got out there that are now recognizable.
- 1:40:16And then of course, through Twitter, he was able to get, you
- 1:40:18know, Mark Martin and Dale Junior and, you know, big names.
- 1:40:22So, so thank you for bringing that up 'cause he definitely
- 1:40:25deserves kudos on that. And even at MSPA, you might
- 1:40:28remember I went that's not mine. That is, that is I will never
- 1:40:33take credit for his work and but he does incredible.
- 1:40:36So so Scott, one thing that I was wondering too, you know,
- 1:40:42with get in the stands and what you've built so far, what's the
- 1:40:45end goal with this? Like where do you see it?
- 1:40:48When you when you're going to feel like, all right, we are at
- 1:40:52the peak because like we talked earlier, you're still building
- 1:40:54it. It will always be building, but
- 1:40:56when you, when are you and maybe you already feel it?
- 1:40:59When do you feel like, OK, this was the ultimate goal.
- 1:41:02We've reached the ultimate goal of what we were hoping for.
- 1:41:05Now let's go even further. Yeah, I'll be honest, 1300
- 1:41:11tracks listed on the site. And I've, I mean, I've, I've
- 1:41:16sent emails to every track. I've, I've, I've messaged tracks
- 1:41:21to their page and just saying, hey, here's your listing.
- 1:41:23Just claim it. If for some reason we just can't
- 1:41:28get tracks to actually claim their listing, even though it
- 1:41:31takes 5 minutes and it's totally free, right?
- 1:41:33So it's if, if track promoters listen to this, the reason you
- 1:41:39need to claim your track is if somebody searches your city and
- 1:41:44you're in that city and you haven't claimed your track,
- 1:41:48you're going to be below all the tracks within 100 miles that
- 1:41:52have claimed their listing, right tracks.
- 1:41:56And it's totally free marketing there.
- 1:42:00You know, 370,000 people have used the site in the last four
- 1:42:04years. And the average track listing
- 1:42:07has been viewed between 110 to 225 times.
- 1:42:13That's 1200 tracks times 200 people who hit a dead end that
- 1:42:20didn't get to cross a bridge because there was no link to
- 1:42:22click and it cost those tracks nothing, right?
- 1:42:27So to me, getting there is getting 50% of those tracks to
- 1:42:32realize, oh, you know what, I got to go claim that listing
- 1:42:35because I want that bridge to work for me because people are
- 1:42:39coming to the site to use it. 3700 people or 3100 people use
- 1:42:43the site last week alone to search for racing or race dates.
- 1:42:46You know, you think about that. That doesn't sound like a big
- 1:42:49number, but 3100 people, if you get 20% of those to come to a
- 1:42:54track in a week, that's 66120 people. 600, yeah, 620 people.
- 1:43:01The average person who comes to a track brings two or three
- 1:43:06people with them, and that group of people spends 100 bucks.
- 1:43:11So 20% of those people who were looking for tracks or looking
- 1:43:14for race dates last week, if they went to a race and brought
- 1:43:18that group of three, that's $32,000 in revenue to the 600
- 1:43:24tracks that they go to, right? And that's, you know, so that's,
- 1:43:28that's the whole thing for me is helping, helping the grassroots
- 1:43:32world realize that it's not all either I'm empty or I've got an
- 1:43:38eve of destruction, that there's a middle ground in there, right?
- 1:43:41And Greg Mccarth has actually talked about this.
- 1:43:43He's like, OK, everybody like, like, yeah, 345600 people in the
- 1:43:47stands. You know what?
- 1:43:48You're happy with that? You're happy with that.
- 1:43:50You know, how do you get the next 10?
- 1:43:52How do you get the next 20? Because the biggest thing is the
- 1:43:57new fans who come and then post it on their Facebook page, then
- 1:44:03their friends that they've got 2 or 300 of them and you know,
- 1:44:06whatever, they're going to see that they were at Kalamazoo
- 1:44:09Speedway and they're going to see Kalamazoo Speedway tagged.
- 1:44:12And they're going to be like, oh, what's that?
- 1:44:13And they're going to go and they're going to look at it and
- 1:44:15they're like, hey, maybe we should try that some night.
- 1:44:16Maybe we should have a family night out or whatever.
- 1:44:18So it's, it's, it's helping the industry.
- 1:44:22And I think we started with this, right?
- 1:44:23So maybe we go kind of full circle is helping the industry
- 1:44:26cross that divide to understanding how to get those
- 1:44:32new fans in one at a time and realizing that there's value in
- 1:44:37one new fan at a time. And I think that's the hardest
- 1:44:41thing because the financial restraints or constraints the
- 1:44:45tracks operate under, you know, when you think about it from the
- 1:44:50big picture, 1 fan here, 1 fan there, it feels like it doesn't
- 1:44:54make a big difference. But if you get 5 new fans each
- 1:44:58night for a 15 race night, you're talking about another
- 1:45:01$20,000 in revenue for the year, right?
- 1:45:04So it's just, it's that whole thing of, of trying to think
- 1:45:08about the bigger picture because obviously there's a lot of,
- 1:45:11there's a lot of pressure on tracks right now, especially
- 1:45:15with the costs of racing to make sure they're getting as much of
- 1:45:18the back gate as possible 'cause that's where that's where a lot
- 1:45:21of the money comes in is the, is the pit fees and the number of
- 1:45:23racers and the number of people they bring as crew and family or
- 1:45:26whatever who are paying the, the higher dollar, the pit fee.
- 1:45:30But the front gate, you can't forget about the front gate.
- 1:45:34So I think, what does success look to me like to me #1 it
- 1:45:37means more tracks claiming their listings.
- 1:45:41It's free, it's 5 minutes, make the bridge work.
- 1:45:45And then it's also helping tracks just get to the point
- 1:45:50where they're like, OK, I got to at least put equal effort into
- 1:45:54front and back and try and figure out a way to do that
- 1:45:57right? And it's not easy and there's
- 1:46:01lots of ideas that people can come up with.
- 1:46:03And Drew, you mentioned this earlier, it's like, but there's
- 1:46:05still, it's like, how do you get that done when you just don't
- 1:46:07have the people, right? Who knows?
- 1:46:10Find the best damn car dealer at the local used car shop who
- 1:46:13sells the most cars and tell him you'll give him 5 bucks for
- 1:46:16every ticket he sells in a week. I guarantee he's going to go out
- 1:46:19and sell a crap ton of tickets. That's not a bad idea.
- 1:46:23No, I mean, it's every, every town has salespeople in it,
- 1:46:27right? I mean, sales is the, is the
- 1:46:29biggest industry in the world, right?
- 1:46:31And, and there's, there's a ton of people who are amazing
- 1:46:34salespeople who are, you know, just used to selling what they
- 1:46:36selling. Who knows, you know what, maybe
- 1:46:38they get them to sell some tickets and give them some
- 1:46:42Commission on them. You know, get those people there
- 1:46:44once and then you take over. Obviously the, the, the biggest
- 1:46:47question I ask every promoter is if a new person comes to your
- 1:46:51track, are you confident that they're going to see an
- 1:46:57experience and experience something that they're going to
- 1:47:00want to come back to? Because that's what it comes
- 1:47:02back to, right, Is if if a person comes and they put in the
- 1:47:08energy to come and then they feel like, oh, that was kind of
- 1:47:10a let down. Yeah.
- 1:47:11I mean, that's that you can't, you know, that's, that's on the
- 1:47:14facility and the venue and the entertainment factor.
- 1:47:16But I think promoters work really hard at what they do, and
- 1:47:21I think they work a lot harder than anybody, even fathoms how
- 1:47:24hard they work. And I honestly, I can be a
- 1:47:29pretty tough critic, right? I haven't been to a track that I
- 1:47:33haven't had a good time at. Have I occasionally been like,
- 1:47:37oh man, that break was too long or, you know, this is too.
- 1:47:40Yeah, it happens. But I'm a pretty forgiving guy
- 1:47:43too. I'm like, yeah, y'all go get
- 1:47:45another hot dog, go get another beer.
- 1:47:48I'll go do another lap of the pits or whatever and take more
- 1:47:50pictures to post. But it's, it's just one of those
- 1:47:54things of, you know, realize that what we do is, is a lot of
- 1:48:01fun to people who might not have ever seen it before, right?
- 1:48:05Like, like get some people there who've never seen it and they're
- 1:48:08not looking at it through your lens.
- 1:48:09They're looking at it through their lens.
- 1:48:12And, and if and if we can get people to kind of step back a
- 1:48:14little bit and realize that, wait, that lens is a lot less
- 1:48:17critical. It's a lot less judgy.
- 1:48:20And they're like, Oh my God, look at those cars and and the
- 1:48:24core loyal races are like, oh man, that was just way too
- 1:48:26spread out, right. That was a horrible race.
- 1:48:30And then, you know, and then the non critical fan, the one who's
- 1:48:35never been there before is like, Oh my God, that one's catching
- 1:48:37up. Look, he always catching up a
- 1:48:38little bit on that lap. And so it's just a different
- 1:48:41perspective, I think. Well, in this past Friday at
- 1:48:44Kalamazoo, we had someone who came from California, they're on
- 1:48:47a trip, they're just kind of driving and going different
- 1:48:50places and they don't have race tracks in the area anymore.
- 1:48:53They keep closing, they keep getting whatever may be.
- 1:48:55So they're just so excited to be at a racetrack.
- 1:48:57And I know a few years ago because of my race day coverage
- 1:49:02also at Kalamazoo, we had a dad drive all the way from South
- 1:49:05Carolina on three Red Bulls from he was an Army veteran, brought
- 1:49:10his son to the races for the first time ever drove all the
- 1:49:13way from South Carolina just because of the my videos.
- 1:49:17He's like, I watch your videos I saw and I'm like, I need to
- 1:49:19bring my son to this racetrack. And so you just never know the
- 1:49:23reach writer. You never know who you're
- 1:49:24bringing to the track for the first time, but I thought that
- 1:49:27was pretty cool to have someone from California come out.
- 1:49:29Not that was not because of me. They're they're the South
- 1:49:32Carolina one was, but that one just because they're on a trip,
- 1:49:35they're in a camper and they stayed on the property overnight
- 1:49:38and we're going to see what else they could find in the area.
- 1:49:40So it's like you just never know who, what, when, where, when, or
- 1:49:43how. There are two kids.
- 1:49:47There are two kids that just having me sitting to the right
- 1:49:49of the tower at New Paris Saturday, and I was already down
- 1:49:52there watching them get fired up during hot laps.
- 1:49:54It just so happened that they had already been chosen to do
- 1:49:57the command to start the Hornet features as the featured class
- 1:50:00of the week. So it happened to be their first
- 1:50:02time at the racetrack and they got to fire the engines and the
- 1:50:05two Hornet features. So cool memory that lasts them.
- 1:50:08Yeah, they're pretty fired up. No, but it's OK.
- 1:50:12Give me 10 seconds. I'm going to run in the other
- 1:50:14room and grab a picture. I want to show you guys.
- 1:50:16Give me 10 seconds. Talk amongst yourselves.
- 1:50:18I'll be right back with the picture.
- 1:50:20Now we can start talking about him.
- 1:50:22I can hear you still. I can hear that.
- 1:50:24Jen, he's got the earbuds tracks.
- 1:50:26Not a good content and I hope people that you come back and
- 1:50:29watch this, do watch this portion of it and how important
- 1:50:32it is and how hard, not just the marketing people work the track
- 1:50:36promoters, the drivers to get to the racetrack.
- 1:50:39It's a team effort and I think a lot of people forget that all
- 1:50:42the time. Yeah, so here's a picture and
- 1:50:44this and this reinforces what it's about memory and
- 1:50:48experience, right? I took this picture at Daytona
- 1:50:52International Speedway, the first Daytona 500 I went to.
- 1:50:56And and they do something before races that have a lot of tracks
- 1:51:01do when they bring cars out and let people walk around the cars.
- 1:51:03They let people walk on the track and sign the start finish
- 1:51:06line, right? So this is a picture that I took
- 1:51:11I got it. I got to turn off I got to turn
- 1:51:13off the background feature. I think I can turn that off.
- 1:51:18You're not going to see much, trust me.
- 1:51:21Virtual background none there we go all right, see look at that.
- 1:51:25It's like clear. All right, So let me turn off
- 1:51:28the the ring light here. There we go.
- 1:51:32So this is a picture of a family of four.
- 1:51:37Let me see how we There we go here.
- 1:51:38We go all right. So they are signing the start
- 1:51:42finish line in 2005 at the Daytona 500.
- 1:51:45Look at that. One's a Jeff Gordon fan, one's a
- 1:51:48Tony Stewart fan, one's a Ryan Newman fan, and one's a a Jimmy
- 1:51:51Johnson fan, right? They all got their own gear on.
- 1:51:55And that was like, that hit me like racing is a family thing,
- 1:52:00right? That's, and I think that
- 1:52:03grassroots race tracks, they are 100% about family, right?
- 1:52:09You know, and, and, and you think about, you know, Kyle
- 1:52:12Busch, God rest his soul and everything that happens at
- 1:52:14Millbridge and all the, the racing families at Millbridge
- 1:52:16with, you know, Braxton and, and all the kids down there who race
- 1:52:20in the families. Now that's a, that's a higher
- 1:52:21level with NASCAR and all that other stuff.
- 1:52:23But that's every track, right? Every track is about families.
- 1:52:28I posted a picture on on our Facebook page earlier this week.
- 1:52:34The right to race thing is coming up in Kutztown,
- 1:52:37Pennsylvania in action Track, USA.
- 1:52:39So they had a, a bunch of people or a local, they had a meeting
- 1:52:43because someone is raising a ruckus about the fact that it's
- 1:52:45in the middle of town and and it's a lot of noise.
- 1:52:49I went back and I did a, a track visit there in 2014 and it was
- 1:52:53literally it was AI think it was a Midget of some sort, or maybe
- 1:52:59it was a modified or something. But the father was in the in the
- 1:53:02car getting ready to race. His son, who's about 5 or 6
- 1:53:06years old, maybe 7 was standing outside like handing him
- 1:53:09something and then the the driver's father-in-law.
- 1:53:13So we had three generations of a family there was like standing
- 1:53:17back watching over. And it's like that's, that's
- 1:53:20what grassroots racing is. But that's also, I mean, that's
- 1:53:23the same thing as youth soccer. You know, there's a there's a
- 1:53:27father and a son who've who've played and, you know,
- 1:53:29grandparent watching their kid. So it it's a lot more familial
- 1:53:34than than people realize. And I think that that's part of
- 1:53:36the power of it is realizing that people are going to have
- 1:53:39experiences with their families and they're not going to forget
- 1:53:42them. And if and if a track, if a
- 1:53:44Kalamazoo, can be the reason there's a place where one of
- 1:53:49those memories happens, or an I-96 or a Berlin or wherever it
- 1:53:53is. I mean, it could be the old
- 1:53:54Bauerty Speedway in Boswell IN where I went and saw a race
- 1:53:57years ago before it it stopped racing.
- 1:54:01If you can be the place that that gets that memory to happen
- 1:54:04for a family and has a good time, they're going to want to
- 1:54:06do it again. Right.
- 1:54:08And that's the goal, right? You.
- 1:54:10Better create those memories or you're going to be on the hoodoo
- 1:54:13stories of the past. Yeah, on the website with
- 1:54:19absolutely no wall behind, you see this like whoa.
- 1:54:21But not. Just after staring at the track
- 1:54:27the whole time, I'm like, now this kind of feels a little
- 1:54:29different, you know? I'm like, I don't know, you
- 1:54:34look. Like you've ascended kind.
- 1:54:40Of like that Oh. Man, and we're almost like you
- 1:54:42could probably do like see you all.
- 1:54:52That's that's technology like, you know, they didn't have that
- 1:54:5520 years. Ago.
- 1:54:59Do a lot of damage in a way. You can tell me stories with
- 1:55:01that wall just, you know, and killer clowns from outer space,
- 1:55:07you know, the, you know, the hand puppet things and all that.
- 1:55:11Just no eating stuff with them. But but yeah, no, that was, I
- 1:55:16mean, I don't have a fancy stuff like that.
- 1:55:17I can't do that kind of stuff. I I'm I'm a little slightly
- 1:55:20jealous of a wall like that. But other than that, I mean,
- 1:55:24well, like I said, Buju's wall changes every single time.
- 1:55:27So I would have to look at. That that just means I have too
- 1:55:29much stuff I'm. Like what did you do this time?
- 1:55:31It literally was lined with cars the last time and that was less
- 1:55:33than a week, but there's. A different room, to be fair.
- 1:55:38Oh, that is right. That is true.
- 1:55:39Yeah, this. Garage.
- 1:55:40That was basement, yeah. But I know Scott, you were able
- 1:55:43to help me earlier. We do have the Monday night
- 1:55:45rewind and I also believe you said the Thursday night throttle
- 1:55:47that are can also now be found on get in the stands.com so or
- 1:55:51close to something. So we, I started this thing
- 1:55:55about a year and a half ago, two years ago, and I call it the
- 1:55:58Gits Garage. And if you go to get in the
- 1:56:02stands.com and there's a, there's a, a thing up there that
- 1:56:04says the Gets garage. And honestly, I created it as a
- 1:56:07place where any grass roots podcaster can get their own
- 1:56:11page. It's totally free.
- 1:56:14They make the page, we give them the header or whatever.
- 1:56:18And it it's, it's a matter of just getting your posts exposed
- 1:56:24in another place. And you know what?
- 1:56:28You don't. So, yeah, go to the Gets garage
- 1:56:30there. So there's the list of all the
- 1:56:34the content creators. Oh, yeah, there's no you got to
- 1:56:38sign up your name. Come on, man.
- 1:56:40Come on, Lewis. My God.
- 1:56:42Now. It's a headache messed.
- 1:56:44It. Up.
- 1:56:48Hold on. So.
- 1:56:48If you scroll, if you Scroll down, you'll find.
- 1:56:50If you Scroll down, you'll find yours.
- 1:56:52It's coming. It'll come out.
- 1:56:53They they come up in a different order every time.
- 1:56:55There's no method or madness, but there's a little bit of a of
- 1:56:58a thing there. And honestly, we just give a
- 1:57:00little bit of a description about all of them.
- 1:57:01But if you Scroll down, just click on podcast there.
- 1:57:08Oh, you got a Capital One card, huh?
- 1:57:09Oh, there. We go save this again.
- 1:57:11Don't worry about it. There you go.
- 1:57:14Put your information on the screen.
- 1:57:19Basically what we're doing is, you know, you just click that
- 1:57:21and that's that's that's your Monday Night Rewind episode 17
- 1:57:26and you know it, it should open, it should open the actual
- 1:57:30podcast. And you know, that's the whole
- 1:57:32idea is just, you know, that's the place where people can
- 1:57:35listen to it if they want. Or you know what the bottom line
- 1:57:38is? I mean, you get credit for the
- 1:57:39views when people watch that. It's the YouTube, It's just an
- 1:57:42embed. We're not we're not uploading
- 1:57:45anything. The biggest thing is just that
- 1:57:48gets garage page where we want to just let people know where
- 1:57:52they can find tons of different. There's 11 right now.
- 1:57:56I mean tons, right? Anybody who's got a podcast or a
- 1:58:00video cast or whatever, they can, they can, you know, ask for
- 1:58:06a page and I'll make it for them and then I'll teach them how to
- 1:58:08upload their content every week. You know, it's just it literally
- 1:58:11once the first one's done, you just clone it and then change
- 1:58:14the embed code every week and the title.
- 1:58:17And it's easy to do. But but yeah, it's so if I think
- 1:58:22about what get in the stands is, is, you know, there's this,
- 1:58:26there's this phrase out there called the single source of
- 1:58:29truth. Well, who knows whether it's
- 1:58:30true or not, but it's a single source of stuff, right?
- 1:58:34All related to grassroots racing.
- 1:58:35So there you go. You got the Michigan track map
- 1:58:39and you got them all listed. And then up above there
- 1:58:43actually, since people are watching this, click the little
- 1:58:45globe and the, and to the right of the sort results.
- 1:58:48And that's where people can actually see the map.
- 1:58:50And that map is, you know, you can scroll around and then, you
- 1:58:54know, you can zoom in with the tools in the bottom right.
- 1:58:57And so they're all there. We got, we got some, we got some
- 1:59:01motocross tracks, you know, you name it, we got it.
- 1:59:04That's not too far from me. That's why I was saying that
- 1:59:06with Red Bud, you know, because Red Bud weekend is coming up.
- 1:59:10I think what, two weeks from now?
- 1:59:11I think it's usually July 4th weekend.
- 1:59:13They have the Red Bud. That's, I mean, it's it's
- 1:59:16nationally known because of just the dedicated fans.
- 1:59:19Yeah. And as you can see, whether
- 1:59:22obviously that's not a claim track, but you know, if if you
- 1:59:25go back that the, you know, actually go ahead and click on
- 1:59:30on any one of those other, other tracks there and we'll show
- 1:59:32people what the difference is between a claim track and an
- 1:59:35unclaimed track. So, you know, click on Auto City
- 1:59:38or Hartford. Yeah, there you go.
- 1:59:40So they get a nice header image, they get their logo, they wow,
- 1:59:43they don't have their phone number on there.
- 1:59:45They got their website, their links and everything.
- 1:59:46So if somebody's look, you know, if somebody comes across
- 1:59:49Hartford Speedway, the goal is to get them there.
- 1:59:52You know, there's been. Donnie's phone number on there,
- 1:59:54so he's getting calls for Hartford and Gilsburg.
- 1:59:59If there's one, these are verified.
- 2:00:00So let's let's click on another one just to kind of see, let's
- 2:00:04go to oh, not claimed. So this even says not claimed
- 2:00:07yet. Yep.
- 2:00:08So basically what happens if you Scroll down, it'll tell people
- 2:00:11the kind of track it is. It's a 716 mile asphalt Oval.
- 2:00:14It gives the address, you know, and then the above it, there's
- 2:00:20the Google map so you can get the Google directions.
- 2:00:22You know, we want people to find tracks, but you know it, it
- 2:00:25would literally take the staff at Berlin to click that green
- 2:00:29button underneath their, their track name.
- 2:00:31It would take them less than 5 minutes to claim that listing.
- 2:00:35And and and it's easy to do. And then there, as you said,
- 2:00:40there would be like more info, you know, here it isn't, you
- 2:00:43know. So that social share is just
- 2:00:46like you hit that share button and that's going to share it to
- 2:00:48your social profile or whatever. You know, that's so that that
- 2:00:52and race fans actually do share a lot of profiles.
- 2:00:57So yeah, it's, you know, it's it's East Lansing cart track is
- 2:01:03there. Oh, there's Kalamazoo Speedway.
- 2:01:05Yeah, unclaimed. Springport.
- 2:01:06Unclaimed. Anyway, so, you know, I
- 2:01:12appreciate you guys having me on.
- 2:01:14It's, it's, I always love to, to spread the word about getting in
- 2:01:17the stands, but I also hope it doesn't get so dry that like
- 2:01:20people are like, Oh my God, we're just talking about
- 2:01:22grassroots marketing or whatever.
- 2:01:23But you know, I, I truly do appreciate everything that, that
- 2:01:30the promoters and the staff members and the volunteers and
- 2:01:33everybody do to, to get this, this sport going.
- 2:01:35I know it's, it's just as hard for racers too nowadays with the
- 2:01:38economy the way it is, the way rules are evolving.
- 2:01:42You know, I, I love the fact that there's this whole Crown
- 2:01:45Victoria class thing now. You know, I mean, I, I know
- 2:01:48they're probably not as cheap as, as somebody like think they
- 2:01:51are, but you know what's going to be the next class?
- 2:01:56Somebody told me it's going to be minivans, right?
- 2:02:00What? Makes sense?
- 2:02:01What is there that's in junk yards?
- 2:02:04I mean, God, there were tons of Camaros and my Carlos and
- 2:02:07Malibu's and whatever. All those cars that you know,
- 2:02:10when I was growing up and Drew, when you were growing up, all
- 2:02:12those cars that became the, you know, the stock cars of
- 2:02:14yesteryear, right? What are what's the stock car
- 2:02:17classes of tomorrow, right? Drew just got his next
- 2:02:21travelling series. Yeah, well.
- 2:02:23Drew's already next. So monster me.
- 2:02:27Man's The Grocery Game series. Drew's Monster Van Tour.
- 2:02:34You could stack those suckers. Oh my God.
- 2:02:37I'm already figuring out how I'm going to clone myself to New
- 2:02:40York next year, but that's another.
- 2:02:42Thing what I will say is stay tuned because there may be a
- 2:02:46track in Northwest Indiana that may have minivans showing up in
- 2:02:52the Hornet class not too long from now.
- 2:02:54So we shall see and it's not the one that's behind you.
- 2:02:57I can also clarify that. So it's it's deeper into Amish
- 2:03:02country than others and so we shall see.
- 2:03:06In fact our guest is in next week or two weeks ago or two
- 2:03:10weeks from now may have some more information on that so.
- 2:03:12Northwestern Indiana. Yeah.
- 2:03:15There there actually is a minivan that races in the
- 2:03:17Montville Stocks at M40 and he's actually pretty competitive.
- 2:03:21Yeah, really. That's partly where the idea
- 2:03:24some was come from. I don't want to say all of it,
- 2:03:26but they were raised, they were going to race in the night of
- 2:03:29the trucks and they thought, why not race it in the Hornet class?
- 2:03:31And so, so it's a, it's a trek in Amish country, as I like to
- 2:03:36call it. And it's the hottest quarter
- 2:03:39mile in the Midwest. So Buju is reckoning, sometimes
- 2:03:44announced, sometimes great fans. Yeah.
- 2:03:49You really love? It so so when somebody mods out
- 2:03:54a a minivan to race on a track, do they take the sliding doors
- 2:03:57off and put crash test dummies in the seats so that they're
- 2:04:00actually like in the back seat? So.
- 2:04:04But then again, you'd probably have to have the seats come out,
- 2:04:06who knows, but. It's.
- 2:04:08Funny like like like a a minivan with no doors but crash test
- 2:04:13dummies or dolls in the seats. We had a these.
- 2:04:16Similar questions so I won't say you're too far off, but I went
- 2:04:20even well, what's the roll cage that you would use and all these
- 2:04:23other things So, so yeah, I've, I've asked similar questions on
- 2:04:27what we could do with that. I thought, you know, put a bunch
- 2:04:29of soccer moms out there, you know, and let, let them go at
- 2:04:33it. But or I, I would call it the
- 2:04:36middle school drop off line. That's what I would call it now
- 2:04:38is the middle school drop off line.
- 2:04:40Soccer moms are not a not as much a thing anymore.
- 2:04:43But you say middle school drop off line.
- 2:04:44Everybody knows what that will be.
- 2:04:46That's very triggering for a lot of people.
- 2:04:47So especially middle school parents, so who are part of the,
- 2:04:52you know, are like, man, that drop off line, just drop your
- 2:04:54kid off and go, they're OK, they're in middle school,
- 2:04:56they'll be just fine. So.
- 2:04:59No, I just figured out where that is.
- 2:05:01I know where it's going to be now.
- 2:05:04They actually have their race dates posted again in the
- 2:05:07stands. Oh good, I believe.
- 2:05:10So for any track that hasn't claimed their spot, how do they
- 2:05:14do that? They literally find their track
- 2:05:17and underneath the the track name beside where it says track
- 2:05:22not yet claimed is a green button that says click here to
- 2:05:26claim this listing. And it's.
- 2:05:29It's that simple. So we're.
- 2:05:32Going to present and then it's right here.
- 2:05:34Hey, wait. Claim.
- 2:05:35Claim it for him. Put it up.
- 2:05:37Put it under Randy Ritchie. Have to claim it in struggles.
- 2:05:43That's the that's yeah, that's the one thing.
- 2:05:46We've actually had race fans try and claim tracks before.
- 2:05:50That's why we asked for a personal phone number, so we can
- 2:05:52actually confirm that the person is with a.
- 2:05:54Phone number. And we'll be like, who's calling
- 2:05:57me? Because believe it or not, and
- 2:06:02this goes back to the racing in days, we had people try to claim
- 2:06:06tracks that actually then claimed the track before I had
- 2:06:11this idea to actually verify it. They actually destroyed the
- 2:06:15profile and they like bashed the track.
- 2:06:18And then they shared it socially.
- 2:06:19And I was like, whoa, you know, I'm glad I caught it the night
- 2:06:23that it happened. But it was like, holy cow.
- 2:06:25So that was when we we went to, OK, you can claim a track, but
- 2:06:30we're going to make sure that you work for the track and that
- 2:06:33you are who you say you. Are I'm not seeing national
- 2:06:37compact touring series on here? There's a.
- 2:06:39Lot of things you probably don't see that I haven't.
- 2:06:42Done. There's tons.
- 2:06:43There's tons on there that you don't see.
- 2:06:44It's just, you know, it's, you know, and suggest the tracker
- 2:06:50series, that button on the right there, that's that's where
- 2:06:52everything starts. You, you better suggest me
- 2:06:55Lewis. I'll get it done.
- 2:06:57Oh, I will. I'll.
- 2:06:58Put all eight of them in there. I'm.
- 2:07:00Doing a little active work, but but I know, Scott, we've kept
- 2:07:04you a really long time, but I feel like it's really valuable
- 2:07:08because, you know, we we got get in the stands out there more
- 2:07:11now, hopefully more. Definitely want everyone to
- 2:07:14share this out there. Of course, like the podcast.
- 2:07:17But you know, the goal when I reached out to you originally
- 2:07:19was like, how can we get, you know, get in stands out there
- 2:07:22more, especially just race season was going on and I know
- 2:07:24you're traveling at that time. And then your response went to
- 2:07:26my spam folder. Figured out why a lot of
- 2:07:29responses were going to spam folder.
- 2:07:30It was a security setting that I messed up on and I fixed that
- 2:07:33really quick. Technology makes everything so
- 2:07:36easy, doesn't it? Yeah, well, I've never set up my
- 2:07:38own like e-mail and I'm the admin of it.
- 2:07:41So like I the whole said click here, click here, click here.
- 2:07:44So I'm clicking and apparently I wasn't supposed to click that
- 2:07:47even though it said to click that.
- 2:07:48So I fixed that. So all of a sudden a couple
- 2:07:51responses showed up to other people too.
- 2:07:54And I'm like, so you know, I was able to reach back and I
- 2:07:57appreciate because we did have a cancellation for 7:40.
- 2:08:00So I said, I know it's late notice, but would you be able to
- 2:08:02come on? Because I I've been wanting to
- 2:08:04get you on to do that. And so I'm really glad that
- 2:08:06you're able to fit it in and and hopefully more people know now,
- 2:08:10fans, race fans, drivers to I'll show up the graphic one more
- 2:08:13time to get in the stands.com turn on lights because now it's
- 2:08:20dark in my room, but the sun went down overlake Michigan.
- 2:08:22So but get in and this is where you know the bridge you're able
- 2:08:27to find and we just showed if you missed it once we're done
- 2:08:30being live, you'll be able to go back and you'll you can see
- 2:08:33exactly where I clicked. I went and get in sands.com.
- 2:08:35We clicked on, I clicked on state maps and clicked Michigan
- 2:08:39and, and there's a couple different ways that you can do
- 2:08:41that. So you know, if you're looking
- 2:08:43for a track or when Buju and I are on the Thursday night
- 2:08:45throttle and we're talking about a track and you're like, I don't
- 2:08:48know where Tri-City Motor Speedway is now you can go there
- 2:08:51and at least see where it is on the map and and put it in.
- 2:08:54I mean, I know everyone has Google Maps, but it's it would
- 2:08:57be very easy to see the track profile.
- 2:08:58Is it semi banked? Is it somewhat, you know, like
- 2:09:00what can they expect? And so, so definitely, you know,
- 2:09:05visit Scott's put a lot of work into this.
- 2:09:07And, and it's free for tracks to claim.
- 2:09:09It's free for Sears to claim. It was free for me.
- 2:09:11It took, you know, a few minutes while I was waiting for GoPro
- 2:09:14support. That's where Scott was messaged
- 2:09:17very seriously. I'm like, OK, not seriously
- 2:09:19feverishly, right? Or is that the right word?
- 2:09:21I don't know. Whatever and I'm like and I'm
- 2:09:25with go full support and then I'm, you know, doing this and
- 2:09:28editing and so I appreciate you. I mean, you were Johnny on the
- 2:09:31spot with responses. So it was, it was coming in
- 2:09:34faster than I could even keep up, but I was a little
- 2:09:37frustrated with GoPro support by that point, so.
- 2:09:40Like, no, that's right. And thank you for doing what you
- 2:09:42do. I mean, I, I met you, you know,
- 2:09:45I, I think I met Drew for the first time 3 or 4 years ago when
- 2:09:47I went to the first MSPA meeting and, and you were probably there
- 2:09:50or shortly thereafter. And, you know, whatever the
- 2:09:55stuff that you do and the stuff that every every grass roots
- 2:10:00content creator does to help get the word out there, I mean,
- 2:10:04yeah, is a lot of it landing on the ears of the people who are
- 2:10:07already loving it and everything else?
- 2:10:09Absolutely. But you know what, that's where
- 2:10:11it starts. And then it's it's sharing that
- 2:10:14with somebody else. And if you know, and I
- 2:10:16appreciate you having me on, but I also appreciate you telling
- 2:10:19the stories of the racers because that's, you know,
- 2:10:21that's, that's what matters too, is, is, you know, people like
- 2:10:26Jalen Brunson because he's a, he seems like a genuinely good guy,
- 2:10:30right? And he, he met a kid from, from
- 2:10:34the Children's Miracle Network and, and fulfilled his wish like
- 2:10:382 weeks ago. And then the kid ended up
- 2:10:40passing away. And he talked about that in his
- 2:10:41press conference, you know, before the final game.
- 2:10:44But every racer's got a story just like that.
- 2:10:48And I think the more we can, we can help help people see, you
- 2:10:54know, the person behind the mask, the person under the
- 2:10:57helmet and and realize that their neighbor, you know, just
- 2:11:01loves to go fast. Right, right.
- 2:11:03And they? Hate it when somebody cuts them
- 2:11:04off. So you know what?
- 2:11:05Sometimes they whip them around too.
- 2:11:07Yep, and that's where, you know, New Paris doing their new
- 2:11:11program. I was throwing names out when
- 2:11:14Chris Mandel, the own one of the owners at New Paris, and I said
- 2:11:17showcase, you know, class of the week, and he slept on it and he
- 2:11:22called me the next day and he said, So what do you think we
- 2:11:24should call this? And I said showcase classes
- 2:11:26like, you know what? I woke up thinking the same
- 2:11:28thing because we were in the tower throwing around names and
- 2:11:31all that because I'm AI, you know, this is something Tracy
- 2:11:35has wanted to do because of that exact thing.
- 2:11:38You know, them under the helmet. And in fact, it was just that in
- 2:11:41the Stevens O Meyer, I was getting ready to go to Kalamazoo
- 2:11:43last week. I was already running behind and
- 2:11:46I ran into somebody who lives in my town.
- 2:11:48I didn't even know they lived in my town.
- 2:11:50Their kids go to the district that I used to teach at and and
- 2:11:55it was and they, their racer or their racer, their dad's eraser,
- 2:11:59very famous names over at Berlin.
- 2:12:02And, and they weren't in a helmet or anything, so I didn't
- 2:12:05recognize them. They weren't in a fire suit.
- 2:12:07And I'm like, it's a lot easier for people to know me than it is
- 2:12:10for me to always know everybody because it's a very say top row
- 2:12:14Lewis, top row Lewis. And I have fans saying hi all
- 2:12:16the time. Like I hi, I, you know, tell me
- 2:12:19your name and you tell me enough times I'll remember it.
- 2:12:23But that's something that I'm just sitting there trying to get
- 2:12:25a pop and, you know, comes around the corner and I have
- 2:12:27nothing. Oh no, it's last Thursday when I
- 2:12:29went to the softball game in East Lansing.
- 2:12:32That's what I was on my way to. And he said, are you from top
- 2:12:34row? And I went well he watched the
- 2:12:36car pull in which has topped all over it.
- 2:12:40Nothing top row. I'm wearing 0 things top row and
- 2:12:44but recognize me because of the car.
- 2:12:46Watch me walk in. And then once he said who he
- 2:12:48was. I know who you are now, it's
- 2:12:50just you're not in the fire suit or you're not sitting in a car
- 2:12:53with a helmet on where I would be able to recognize you.
- 2:12:56So. So I definitely think it's those
- 2:12:58kind of things of telling the story, peeling the helmet back.
- 2:13:00We were just talking about spotlights the other day and I
- 2:13:02said always around this time of year, I take that pause because
- 2:13:05of the new season. Let's get new stats and
- 2:13:07everything, then I can bring that back.
- 2:13:09I said usually I bring them back and although everyone's like,
- 2:13:14where you going to fit that in? I don't know, we'll figure that
- 2:13:16out, but but I definitely always appreciate the stories.
- 2:13:20And you know, usually a driver will have one conversation with
- 2:13:23me and I can write a whole spotlight on them.
- 2:13:24Like how do you remember all that?
- 2:13:26If you, if I wrote notes, it'd mean nothing to me, but because
- 2:13:28it was a conversation that meant everything.
- 2:13:30So I remember conversations. And so, you know, I try to pay
- 2:13:35really good attention to them and, and keep all that in my
- 2:13:37mind. So, so that's where I definitely
- 2:13:39appreciate the stories that you've been able to help tell
- 2:13:41about tracks. I know that's how I came across
- 2:13:44your page a few years ago. You were visiting some tracks in
- 2:13:47the area and just doing video at them.
- 2:13:49And, and you know, we that those are the kind of things that we
- 2:13:52need because think of how many fans you probably come across.
- 2:13:55Like, that track's still open. Didn't even know that was there,
- 2:13:58you know? And so again, that's where if
- 2:14:01you ever feel that way, I'll show the graphic one more time.
- 2:14:04You know, go to get in the stands.com and there's some
- 2:14:07tracks on that listing in Michigan.
- 2:14:08And I'm like, I didn't know that was a thing.
- 2:14:10I didn't know that was a thing. And I live in Michigan now.
- 2:14:13Their fairness, some of them are really far away from me when I
- 2:14:16looked at the map. So I'm like, that's probably why
- 2:14:18I don't know it, but, you know, get there, see the track
- 2:14:22scenario, see what's going on, get their schedules.
- 2:14:24And if they're not claimed yet by that track, encourage someone
- 2:14:27at that track to go and claim it.
- 2:14:29And as Scott said, it's absolutely free.
- 2:14:31It cost them nothing but 5 to 10 minutes of time.
- 2:14:34It took me, I think 7 minutes total to do my listing.
- 2:14:39And that's just because I was also with GoPro support.
- 2:14:41But I clicked the link and you know, I was going through that
- 2:14:44and I had to pick a cover photo, you know, and then it wasn't
- 2:14:48fitting. I'm like, I'll come back to it
- 2:14:49later. Looks wonky, but I'll fix it
- 2:14:51later and not much time to do. And then you get to be in those
- 2:14:56search results. So definitely take advantage of
- 2:14:58it. But like I said, I know we've
- 2:15:00kept you a while now, so any. Not a problem.
- 2:15:03Any last words or anything good for the group?
- 2:15:06No, just, you know, thank you for having me.
- 2:15:10Thank you you guys for, for doing what you do.
- 2:15:12And I mean, I without you guys doing what you do, there'd be no
- 2:15:15need for me. So, you know, thank you for
- 2:15:19that. And and my other thing and, and
- 2:15:21I think you, this is you guys. Did you guys watch the fart
- 2:15:24thing? Barf, yeah.
- 2:15:27Barf no. What do you guys do?
- 2:15:28Fuck. Bring a Roars fan.
- 2:15:31I saw that today. That's awesome.
- 2:15:33Yep, that's my thing. Do the.
- 2:15:35Barf be a face fan or or bring a bring a non fan Banff that
- 2:15:40doesn't work. Bring a non.
- 2:15:44Oh, a new fan. Bring a I'll have.
- 2:15:47I'll think of something with it. Maybe I'll think of something.
- 2:15:49Bring a rookie fan. Bring a rookie fan.
- 2:15:52Bring a rookie fan. Oh yeah, still barf.
- 2:15:54But yeah that's where I keep telling people.
- 2:15:56Like if Mean Girls. Can.
- 2:15:58Make, I'm going to try to make a barf work.
- 2:15:59And so, and that's where it's like, you know, I, I now have
- 2:16:03bumper stickers on my website and everything's 40% off until
- 2:16:07tomorrow morning. So it's like, you know, go get a
- 2:16:09barf sticker, put it on there and make people look twice.
- 2:16:12And I said, that's why I came up with it because I was watching
- 2:16:15something they were talking about Bogo and I new pairs
- 2:16:18challenged me with a task of creating some promotional things
- 2:16:21for them. And so I'm, you know, typing up
- 2:16:23this huge document and, and I'm like, what can I do with BOGO?
- 2:16:27Everyone does BOGO. Bogo's not that interesting.
- 2:16:30And, and so I googled, you know, different things to see, you
- 2:16:35know, is this claimed? Is this claimed?
- 2:16:37Is this claimed? And, you know, once I start
- 2:16:40coming up with some acronyms. And so barf wasn't a thing
- 2:16:43anywhere. And I'm like, well, I'm going to
- 2:16:44make it, you know, tongue in cheek, right?
- 2:16:48Because if, if I say, man, that racing action just made me want
- 2:16:51to barf last night, you're going to get people to go wait, what?
- 2:16:54They want to hear it again. And then I said, now you're
- 2:16:58hooked. And now you got the thing.
- 2:17:00Because they, they, they have to think twice of what you just
- 2:17:04said. And so I said, that's marketing.
- 2:17:07If you can, sometimes if you can get people to look at something
- 2:17:10twice or make something, you know, like, I mean, think of how
- 2:17:13many cookie creations or cupcake creations, you go to some
- 2:17:15bakeries and you're like, wait, what did they do?
- 2:17:18And then you walk out with, you know, walk out with one because
- 2:17:20you want to know what does that taste like?
- 2:17:21And you know, so that was, that was kind of the intent behind
- 2:17:25it. So I'm going to come up with
- 2:17:26different graphics as I this week, as my goal is to create a
- 2:17:30few different ones. So it's not the same one all the
- 2:17:32time, but it's definitely there's some people who are
- 2:17:35already into it and making it a thing.
- 2:17:37So like, let's just make it a thing.
- 2:17:39And but I'm like, if I see other people stealing and I know
- 2:17:42exactly where they got it from because TikTok in fairness, but
- 2:17:47Facebook and all these other places, it did not come up in
- 2:17:49the search search at all. And I went, all right, we're
- 2:17:52going to make that a thing. So, and Chris and Tracy just
- 2:17:55absolutely ate it up, no pun, you know, so that's from all
- 2:17:59right, let's do the thing. So yeah, that that we had
- 2:18:03Kalamazoo was the first track to do 2 tickets and the, the people
- 2:18:06did cash them in. They went and got them and so I
- 2:18:09plan to talk with Hartford about it.
- 2:18:11I plan to talk with M40 about it.
- 2:18:13Drew suggested Winston and a few others where my goal is to make
- 2:18:18it even a weekend combo where you can go to Kalamazoo on
- 2:18:20Friday night with two tickets. And then maybe you go to, maybe
- 2:18:25you go to New Paris on Saturday or maybe it's Hartford and M40
- 2:18:29or you know, maybe Owosso gets in there or someone else gets in
- 2:18:34and not make it the same package all the time, but try to change
- 2:18:37it up a little bit. And whether I have to buy the
- 2:18:40tickets or track supplies the tickets, you know, I'm like, if
- 2:18:44I'm talking about it, let's, I got to do my part.
- 2:18:46And so my part is let's put 2 tickets out there and you know,
- 2:18:50it's your role, then it's their job to claim them, right?
- 2:18:53If I'm providing them show up. And what we did is I had Boojie
- 2:18:57make the wheel for me since I was going to be late, and we
- 2:19:00drew 33 names because if one person wasn't going to claim it
- 2:19:03or show up, we were going to give it to the next person until
- 2:19:05we got success. Let's use these tickets.
- 2:19:09So yeah, hopefully we can continue to make it a thing and
- 2:19:12it builds. Actually, I'm, I'm writing a
- 2:19:15post right now. I just found the stickers on
- 2:19:17your website. Gonna throw.
- 2:19:19Does great racing make you wanna barf?
- 2:19:21I want you to bring a race fan and I'm gonna throw it up there
- 2:19:24and, and get that image up there for you.
- 2:19:26And we're gonna see if we can get people to barf this weekend.
- 2:19:29I hope so. Bark anywhere, everywhere can
- 2:19:33like have a great fan on Friday said.
- 2:19:34As long as you bark to the right, because the drivers were
- 2:19:36going to the left. So, you know, 'cause when you
- 2:19:40get in a ride, they say you have to bark, bark this direction.
- 2:19:42So that's one of those things that we're going to make it a
- 2:19:45thing one way or another. But I definitely appreciate that
- 2:19:49too, 'cause it gets it, gets it out there, right?
- 2:19:51And so, you know, hopefully people, fans, not just people,
- 2:19:55but race fans start doing it. Bring someone new, bring someone
- 2:19:57different. But yeah, definitely it's a
- 2:20:00campaign that I'm I'm investing myself into, so.
- 2:20:04It's awesome. Again, it'll make people look
- 2:20:08twice and that is kind of the goal is what will make him look
- 2:20:10twice. And I thought barf, you know,
- 2:20:13why not? And sometimes barf makes people
- 2:20:16giggle. So you know, like maybe they'll,
- 2:20:18they'll be very cheerful and happy, right?
- 2:20:21I the other one I was going to come up with was going to be
- 2:20:23something with fart and I thought, Nah, that might be a
- 2:20:26little too far. And you know, so I didn't do
- 2:20:29that one, but I was trying to come up with an algorithm for or
- 2:20:31not algorithm acronym for that one too.
- 2:20:34But I, you know, doesn't this racing action just make you, you
- 2:20:37know, it's like Taco Bell, right?
- 2:20:39Everybody knows it what happens to the Taco Bell?
- 2:20:41So it doesn't racing action just make you want to whatever,
- 2:20:45right. So.
- 2:20:46I think it's awesome. Parf is where we landed, but but
- 2:20:49again, Scott, thank you again so much for your time tonight.
- 2:20:52Thank you for sharing that out too.
- 2:20:54I'll be sure to share that post. That way you know, everyone can,
- 2:20:57you know, even go to get in the stands and hopefully follow it
- 2:20:59if they're not already. You know what, Let's sell some
- 2:21:03bumper stickers for crying out loud.
- 2:21:04That's what racing is, right? We got to got to sell stuff, for
- 2:21:07crying out loud. And it's 40% off automatically.
- 2:21:10It's they don't even have to type in a discount.
- 2:21:12It's literally they just put it in the automatically 40% off.
- 2:21:16It's the Monday Night Rewind discount so.
- 2:21:19Beautiful, put it. On the card and buy it.
- 2:21:21So again, thank you so much for that too.
- 2:21:24Drew, I'm going to come out. I I got to double check my
- 2:21:26schedule, but I think I'm going to be at Kalamazoo for the
- 2:21:28Stackers. I got to see that.
- 2:21:30If you get with Lewis, we'll make sure you get in.
- 2:21:33Unfortunately, I will be at another venue that night.
- 2:21:36Oh man. But I got to tell you something
- 2:21:40there. They're not getting rid of what
- 2:21:43we do. They're just retiring some of
- 2:21:45our fleet that's overdue to be retired.
- 2:21:47So instead of doing a school bus race, they're going to do a
- 2:21:49school bus demolition Derby. They're going to do a stack of
- 2:21:52car Derby. Lewis's race from New Paris.
- 2:21:56Whoever invented that? The Pac-Man race is really
- 2:21:58entertaining. And then they're doing a cow
- 2:22:03tipping that looks kind of cool. Nice.
- 2:22:07So are the are the are the stackers going to actually race
- 2:22:09laps that night before they do the demo Derby?
- 2:22:12I honestly I don't think they have enough power to do that.
- 2:22:15They probably just have enough power to destroy each other.
- 2:22:17Just. Have fun, have fun.
- 2:22:19So awesome. But thank.
- 2:22:23You guys for having me? Kenny Hat and his group and
- 2:22:25Donnie are putting a great effort into that, so I think
- 2:22:29you'll have a good time, yeah. So let me know if you're coming
- 2:22:31and we'll make sure to get you in for sure.
- 2:22:34Absolutely. Well.
- 2:22:35All right. Well, just to remind everyone
- 2:22:37again, we've been talking with Scott Kozak from
- 2:22:39getinthestands.com. So if you've not been to the
- 2:22:42website, definitely favorite it. You can find tracks anywhere and
- 2:22:44everywhere. So again, Scott, thank you so
- 2:22:48much for joining us tonight. Buju, thank you again for
- 2:22:50another awesome show is packed between you and Colin.
- 2:22:54You know, lots of information out there.
- 2:22:56Then of course, Drew, we don't get to see Drew too often.
- 2:22:58You know, he's busy, but this is one of his kind of not super
- 2:23:02busy week so far. But by tomorrow it'll change.
- 2:23:04He'll be busy again. But.
- 2:23:08He didn't realize he was getting into a 2 1/2 hour gig tonight
- 2:23:11either. Oh, I know.
- 2:23:16That's all good. What's?
- 2:23:17Nice is it hasn't felt that way because.
- 2:23:19No, definitely not. That's when you look at the time
- 2:23:23you're like, holy cow, it's already 922 for us.
- 2:23:25And I think you're at what, 822 still.
- 2:23:28So you we've already lived at 8:00 hour.
- 2:23:30You're just now living it for us.
- 2:23:31But again, Scott, thank you so much.
- 2:23:34And while you're on, I do want to remind everyone that Thursday
- 2:23:36Night Throttle once again returns this Thursday night at
- 2:23:397:00 PM. Buju and I will preview the
- 2:23:41upcoming weekend of events around the area.
- 2:23:44And then also don't forget, as Scott was just talking about,
- 2:23:47let's maybe sell some bumper stickers.
- 2:23:48So if you want to barf or show people that you barf 40% off on
- 2:23:52all orders, all you have to do is literally add it to your cart
- 2:23:55and that's it. The discount automatically
