Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 1: NHL and is stripped coming to you on Canada Day.
- 0:23Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:23Speaker 1: That means Toal is gonna give us his draft all
- 0:25Speaker 1: name team. Not sure if these guys can play, but
- 0:27Speaker 1: the draft names are great, which reminds you of the draft.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I covered rounds two through seven for Inchell Network with
- 0:32Speaker 1: the great Lawrence Goldstein. As they walked into the studio today,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Algie said to me Ivan Ivan, who is of course
- 0:36Speaker 1: our favorite. Now the Boston Bruins gotta get an ive
- 0:39Speaker 1: An Ivan jersey one of these days. The meantime handing
- 0:41Speaker 1: out flyers to Alex Steam were of course recapping the
- 0:43Speaker 1: draft and all the accident went down, and just a
- 0:45Speaker 1: flurry of activity as it always is on Canada Day.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Free agency. Lots of moves being made, nothing bigger than
- 0:50Speaker 1: what about Bob Baby steps the bus, Baby steps over here,
- 0:54Speaker 1: Sergey Lebowski going three years, the tournament beliefs as John
- 0:58Speaker 1: Chika shaking things up, There's no doubt about it. Before
- 1:00Speaker 1: we see anything further, though, tell I want to know
- 1:02Speaker 1: our summer schedule. We were two days for the Cup final.
- 1:05Speaker 1: When can I tell the us we're gonna be back.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's canadidate. When are we going to be back on unscripted.
- 1:10Speaker 3: We'll know, we'll know, hopefully by the weekend. I think
- 1:13Speaker 3: what'd likely do is every other week for the next
- 1:17Speaker 3: of them, for the rest of the summer.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's going to be slow for the summer.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, keeping it by, that's right.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Just let me know when I got to calalk in.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Just call me. I'll be on the golf course.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Just just throw it in the chest.
- 1:31Speaker 3: We'll poke you with a stick when we're ready for you.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Yeah, just pull me with a stick to wake me up.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I like that Huckleberry Finn.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Today.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So I mentioned Lebrowski three years, twenty one millions to
- 1:42Speaker 1: the Leaves, Mason Marchman following in his late five years
- 1:45Speaker 1: a deal, JD gets all the fields. Jacob Truba four
- 1:49Speaker 1: years to San Jose, speaking of those Sharks, Jenner for yours, Andrews,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Lady hutup, give me another Sharks ones thankfully to face only.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Jaden Schwartz three years of Colorado and Matchicrella one year
- 2:00Speaker 1: to la Let's start with the leaves, jad Yeah, you're
- 2:02Speaker 1: soft on zook. A million bucks went up the leafs.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I mean, listen, Schaika came in there. At the very least.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He's gonna be aggressive. He's gonna make moves. He's not
- 2:09Speaker 1: gonna be passive. So if you looked up as a
- 2:12Speaker 1: Maine Leaves, I don't know how he would be throwing
- 2:13Speaker 1: away to say, we got Gavin McKenna, who relishes the
- 2:17Speaker 1: role of perhaps being the next Patrick Kane. Maybe he's
- 2:19Speaker 1: forty goals, who knows, at some point in his career
- 2:21Speaker 1: is expected to be an impact player. Austin Masthews seems thrilled. Hey,
- 2:24Speaker 1: best defensemen available, Let's go get Darren Radish, seven year deal. Okay,
- 2:28Speaker 1: as long as he's good for three to five. Who
- 2:30Speaker 1: cares with the seven? This guy's sixty points, great shot,
- 2:32Speaker 1: great pass, and then goaltenderise okay. Joseph Wall was hurt
- 2:37Speaker 1: too much, Fine Arison brutal, get rid of him. He
- 2:39Speaker 1: goes out with senators. Here's what we're gonna do. We're
- 2:41Speaker 1: gonna get Bbroe Stellars are still there. But Stillars gets
- 2:44Speaker 1: hurt a lot, maybe he gets flipped. He gets he's
- 2:46Speaker 1: making three point five million, but you still got I
- 2:49Speaker 1: can always pronounce this guy's name. Akim Off, the Russian goaltender,
- 2:52Speaker 1: who can now tutor with Bebrovski, or you can have
- 2:54Speaker 1: hilde be there as well, so you can keep hildeby
- 2:56Speaker 1: who's cheap and trade starts bad for defense.
- 2:59Speaker 4: They traded Hill to be Hill to be got traded.
- 3:01Speaker 4: They traded Hill to be this ship's bananas. This is
- 3:05Speaker 4: so that they traded him for the next ball.
- 3:07Speaker 1: So still Art's is still there. But my point is this,
- 3:10Speaker 1: but proxy, if I said to you JD three years,
- 3:12Speaker 1: twenty one million dollars, how do you not jump at that? Again?
- 3:15Speaker 1: I know he's tryed thirty eight this summer. I know
- 3:17Speaker 1: this past season was a down year. It was it
- 3:19Speaker 1: down here for many of the Panthers. I think it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's a steal, like he's got a
- 3:22Speaker 1: semi millionaire and he's guys three thirty eight. But if
- 3:24Speaker 1: you're me a police fan, you go, hey, we need
- 3:26Speaker 1: a goaltender. You got Sergey Mabrovsky. Fantastic day for John Chika.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Dude, John Chika, Like, I'm gonna try to go through
- 3:33Speaker 4: this as we're walking. And they got Jack Roslovic, after
- 3:37Speaker 4: they got Gavin McKenna. They went and got Nick Paul
- 3:41Speaker 4: for hildeb They signed Brandon new Ham, They signed Teddy Blueger,
- 3:46Speaker 4: Teddy Blueger, they signed Colton Sissons. That is a lot
- 3:50Speaker 4: of very good signings and they already have you know,
- 3:53Speaker 4: they got the McKenna, so they got their high end
- 3:55Speaker 4: talent bringing in Bob Now with Stolars and Wool two
- 3:58Speaker 4: goalies that get hurt. Now there's like this three headed
- 4:01Speaker 4: monster that maybe you can now move on from Wool
- 4:05Speaker 4: or Stolars. There's a potential there to maybe get something back.
- 4:08Speaker 4: But anybody saying that he has he has not done
- 4:13Speaker 4: a good job or hasn't at least made it a
- 4:15Speaker 4: parent that he's trying to make this team competitive is
- 4:19Speaker 4: high on crack cocaine. And I tell you what, I've
- 4:22Speaker 4: loved everything he's done so far because they've addressed a
- 4:25Speaker 4: lot of needs in the bottom six, which I think
- 4:28Speaker 4: was important. They you know, they trade Nick robertson a
- 4:30Speaker 4: way which even though he had sixteen goals, I think
- 4:33Speaker 4: it was just time for him to move on. Chiker
- 4:35Speaker 4: realized that I don't think any GM had realized that
- 4:38Speaker 4: Nick Robinson needed to go move on. They get a
- 4:40Speaker 4: fourth round pick for him, so everything they've done, I've
- 4:42Speaker 4: really enjoyed.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I like it.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Listen, Brandon new Haim very underrated signing, so was Colton says.
- 4:48Speaker 4: And so I'm liking what the Maple Leafs are doing
- 4:51Speaker 4: right now. I'm liking it. I'm liking it towards it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I don't upset good. I know there's work to do.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I know the defense still needs improvement. You bounce back seasons,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but you still have youngish players Matthew Nie so they believe,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and you still have your Matthews and your Kneelander, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: now you're pouring that cast now with veteran players again.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I don't know how you can't be happy for a
- 5:08Speaker 1: Leafs fan.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I mean it looked bleak after the season, and the
- 5:12Speaker 5: way you described it, Jad he was perfect because it's
- 5:15Speaker 5: just they added everything they needed and they've added then some.
- 5:18Speaker 5: You know, when you've add a guy like Darren Radish too,
- 5:20Speaker 5: like you have a number one d everything he can do.
- 5:23Speaker 5: I mean you look at all the statistics, he was
- 5:26Speaker 5: off the charts with that, and then you know, you
- 5:28Speaker 5: look at their lines and you have basically you have
- 5:32Speaker 5: every first, second, third line center. I mean Matthews plays
- 5:36Speaker 5: in McKennon and Nyes and you have Nlander, Tavares and
- 5:40Speaker 5: whoevery wan is slot on the second line. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 5: you have so many other players now Sissons, who's we've
- 5:45Speaker 5: seen has been really really good in the playoffs for
- 5:48Speaker 5: so many years in Nashville, now in Vegas. So that's
- 5:51Speaker 5: a great ad for the Leafs. So I mean, this team,
- 5:53Speaker 5: they went from looking like, all right, they're not going
- 5:55Speaker 5: to make the playoffs next year to they're going to
- 5:57Speaker 5: make the playoffs next year, you know, And that's.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Oh I still like that.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That's what they look like to me.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Wow, Yeah, I think, I mean, and I think Bob.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Bob had his worst year though. That's the one thing
- 6:09Speaker 4: is like how much does he have left from the tank.
- 6:11Speaker 4: But I think Bob's better when he's in. Like, uh,
- 6:14Speaker 4: I think Tarasof wasn't good enough to carry the load
- 6:18Speaker 4: all sexual puns aside. I just don't think he was
- 6:21Speaker 4: good enough to carry the team and give Bob enough rest.
- 6:25Speaker 4: But I think this team in Toronto will. And then
- 6:28Speaker 4: just as we were talking, Mary Ferraro went to the Jets.
- 6:32Speaker 4: I was hoping three by dude, he got he got
- 6:35Speaker 4: fucking hooked. He got three by four, three years, four
- 6:39Speaker 4: million year. It's a good deal, but not great. Vinnie
- 6:43Speaker 4: d Hardenin had more of than them.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's still god.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I I like to see you should have if that's
- 6:51Speaker 4: if that's the him out, Like, how was that more?
- 6:54Speaker 2: Guys?
- 6:54Speaker 4: Why would you m four point two five sad day franti? Anyway,
- 7:00Speaker 4: this is fucking crazy.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Here's this is our first app so since the draft
- 7:05Speaker 1: and since the beginning of free agency. And again, if
- 7:08Speaker 1: you're a least fit, you're happy. If you're a Sharks fan,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I mean you're doing a moonwalk right now, saying sexual.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You got Steenberg who eighteen years old, bug and player,
- 7:18Speaker 1: like this guy is ready to go. He looked great
- 7:20Speaker 1: in the Swedish league. He's ready. He might be playing
- 7:22Speaker 1: with Celebraty Stemberg's in. You got these great young players players.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You also get the number nine pick, fantastic. You also
- 7:29Speaker 1: get Mason marshmen beforely mentioned and Jacob Truba. So like
- 7:32Speaker 1: you're identifying the fact you need to improve your defense,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you're doing so. You have a great young core. I'm
- 7:37Speaker 1: just waiting for them to lock up Celebraty. Hey we
- 7:39Speaker 1: got we get Mac done. Eight years, twelve min and
- 7:42Speaker 1: Darnell Nurse as you and I said, nine point two
- 7:44Speaker 1: five million. I know he's not worth that kind of money,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but is he a serviceable defenseman? Absolutely, and he'd improve
- 7:48Speaker 1: your defense. Well done.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Now, before I, you know, reached my climax, no listen
- 7:59Speaker 4: signed no no, but the Darnell and there signing, and
- 8:04Speaker 4: I think people, you know, people are up in arms
- 8:06Speaker 4: right now a little bit, being like, why are we
- 8:07Speaker 4: paying Truba and Nurse? Again? You have to pay somebody.
- 8:12Speaker 4: And at the end of the day, they're like, after
- 8:16Speaker 4: this year, they're gonna have like fifty four million in
- 8:20Speaker 4: cap space available. They have so much ore LOFs off
- 8:23Speaker 4: the books, catures contracts off the books, they have a
- 8:27Speaker 4: couple a few more guys. They have so much money
- 8:29Speaker 4: coming off the books starting next year. So like this
- 8:34Speaker 4: is fine for them to sign that. And the thing
- 8:36Speaker 4: that people don't realize is that they have so much
- 8:39Speaker 4: young talent that are on like entry level deals and
- 8:41Speaker 4: bridge deals that they need to pay somebody. So this
- 8:45Speaker 4: is like I wish I was still playing because this
- 8:48Speaker 4: is like they're in the perfect position to pay these
- 8:50Speaker 4: veterans because their young guys are still under. You know,
- 8:53Speaker 4: they're gonna sign call On Graft to probably a three
- 8:55Speaker 4: to five year deal, probably like five million a year,
- 8:58Speaker 4: and then they're gonna you know, Max and I wonder
- 9:01Speaker 4: to me, we talked about it a lot this year.
- 9:02Speaker 4: I think if I'm Mac, I take it two three million,
- 9:05Speaker 4: two three year deal. Don't over you know, don't take
- 9:09Speaker 4: a seven year deal at sixteen million because the CAP's
- 9:12Speaker 4: gonna go up. Take a three year deal at twelve
- 9:14Speaker 4: and a half at Connor, give yourself some money. Keep
- 9:17Speaker 4: the team competitive. But they have so much to like
- 9:20Speaker 4: and if they can develop the right way, I mean.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Ooh, doggy, look at their top four to now, like
- 9:26Speaker 5: I look at their like Dickinson, Truba, Nurse or Loft
- 9:30Speaker 5: and then Kesserlink too, you know, like their d look
- 9:34Speaker 5: nice JD.
- 9:35Speaker 4: It's good that your big good.
- 9:37Speaker 5: And then you add Stenburgh. But I mean I would
- 9:39Speaker 5: imagine Stenburg's playing on the top two lines next year.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, like you for sure he has to
- 9:44Speaker 4: be right.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And then you have me.
- 9:45Speaker 5: You add Mason Marchman to that with Mesa and oh
- 9:49Speaker 5: march Man I mean like coming home, yeah, and march
- 9:52Speaker 5: Man like bad ad And I saw your tweet today
- 9:54Speaker 5: and it was a great uh.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I love how you said it, how he's coming home.
- 9:56Speaker 5: That's I think it's amazing that he's coming back to
- 9:59Speaker 5: San Jose and he's gonna be not only is it
- 10:01Speaker 5: gonna be coming home, but I think it's gonna be
- 10:02Speaker 5: an amazing fit there. Like he's a uh, he's a
- 10:05Speaker 5: guy that they kind of need and a guy that
- 10:06Speaker 5: don't really have. Like he's a he's a little bit
- 10:08Speaker 5: of a unicorn, that guy, the way he plays.
- 10:10Speaker 4: They got him in Sherwood, right.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, multiple.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Under the radar, Matt sic Corella. When you're to l
- 10:17Speaker 1: A Nate, I mean, for a million bucks you get
- 10:19Speaker 1: Matt C. Corrello. I mean that's a nice little move
- 10:21Speaker 1: for them. Schwartz has ties, you know, three years to Colorado.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The Anders like that.
- 10:27Speaker 3: You want to talk Schwartz, go ahead.
- 10:28Speaker 1: What do you like about Schwartz?
- 10:29Speaker 4: No, I just like I like Jayon Schwartz on Colorado.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I like what Colorado has done this offseason. They brought
- 10:34Speaker 4: back there there. You know, they lost some pieces. I mean, honestly,
- 10:38Speaker 4: you know, the team I think we should probably talk
- 10:41Speaker 4: about the most after San Jose is Utah. I think
- 10:45Speaker 4: Utah Man Utah resigned Stenlin, they got tro Check and
- 10:49Speaker 4: then they picked up anders Lee. I mean, that's a
- 10:53Speaker 4: nice fricking that's a nice tidy piece of work by
- 10:57Speaker 4: Bill Armstrong, who I can't stand. But listen, he's called
- 11:01Speaker 4: give him, give him his flowers. Dude, I can't stand
- 11:06Speaker 4: you guys.
- 11:07Speaker 5: You add those two guys in their lineup and they play.
- 11:10Speaker 5: You put him in that series against Vegas and they
- 11:14Speaker 5: probably win. Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you look at those two guys now, like
- 11:19Speaker 2: that's that's yeah. I like that one too. Jady Utah
- 11:22Speaker 2: is a really good one.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Yeah, they're and I think that's why they're gonna let
- 11:26Speaker 4: Barrett Hayte and walk for that second round pick. And
- 11:28Speaker 4: they're gonna get a second round pick. They don't have
- 11:30Speaker 4: to do anything.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Barrett Hayten getting an offer sheet from New Jersey. Do
- 11:36Speaker 1: they match.
- 11:37Speaker 4: No, they're no, there's no way they match. They'll let
- 11:40Speaker 4: They'll let Barrett walk. I think it's a good Barrett
- 11:44Speaker 4: kind of struggled with some injuries the last couple of years,
- 11:47Speaker 4: but they loved him there and they love what he brought.
- 11:49Speaker 4: He needs to kind of I think he needs a change.
- 11:51Speaker 4: The scener I think it's a good fit for him
- 11:52Speaker 4: in Jersey. They need a centerman like Kim. You know,
- 11:55Speaker 4: Hates can do a little bit of everything offense, defense,
- 11:58Speaker 4: play some p K. He's really kind of developed into
- 12:01Speaker 4: a two way center, and uh, I think it's gonna
- 12:05Speaker 4: be good for him to go. And I think, like
- 12:06Speaker 4: there's just no room with anders Lee and Trocheck coming.
- 12:09Speaker 4: And now they got there, you know, they got what
- 12:11Speaker 4: is it, Trocheck, Schmaltz, Stenland and then who's their third
- 12:15Speaker 4: line center? Trying to think is anders Lee the centiment
- 12:19Speaker 4: or a winger curvefoot, Yeah, curvefoot or somebody. I can't
- 12:23Speaker 4: but they got a good They just don't need Hates.
- 12:25Speaker 4: He just doesn't fit anymore.
- 12:27Speaker 2: The other thing is is if Utah does sign him,
- 12:31Speaker 2: they can't trade him for a year and he becomes
- 12:34Speaker 2: a UFA after next season.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's I you know, ad Nan, I just I
- 12:42Speaker 4: don't know what your guys thoughts are, but I tweeted
- 12:45Speaker 4: about it, and I just you know, I usually test
- 12:47Speaker 4: it before I bring it here, but I just offer
- 12:50Speaker 4: sheets are punk rock, man, It's just punk rock. I
- 12:53Speaker 4: want it more mainstream. It's grunge. It's fucking I love it.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Like every team should have to offer sheet at least
- 13:02Speaker 4: once at every single season a GMS to off for
- 13:06Speaker 4: sheet one player punk Rock, I'd be sick.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I just say the fact that it's one of a
- 13:12Speaker 3: brand new GM who's never been a GM in the
- 13:14Speaker 3: league before and just goes right up to the biggest
- 13:17Speaker 3: kid on the playground and sucks him.
- 13:18Speaker 2: In the face.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I love, oh Sonny Meta swinging that der around.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Speaking of just swinging it around, this is after I
- 13:27Speaker 1: love Sonny, He's my guy. We have to talk with
- 13:29Speaker 1: the Zacharnsky trade drama. I mean, the fact D's so
- 13:33Speaker 1: much to this became public. So Rensky informs Donaldel he's
- 13:36Speaker 1: not likely it's not another contract of the Blue Jackets.
- 13:38Speaker 1: When his current dealer is up after the twenty seven
- 13:40Speaker 1: to twenty eight seasons two more years. Well, Dall attempts
- 13:42Speaker 1: to trade him this offseason, including a dealing and plays
- 13:44Speaker 1: with the Stars. Lorensky uses his no movement clause to
- 13:47Speaker 1: veto and then it's like, well, at this point is
- 13:49Speaker 1: at the point of no return. How do you feel
- 13:51Speaker 1: if you're a teammate of Zach, Like, dude, you're quitting
- 13:53Speaker 1: on us. You want to like that's it, Whereas maybe
- 13:56Speaker 1: he's feeling like, no, what you're putting the pressure on
- 13:58Speaker 1: me sing have to sign a long term deal and
- 14:00Speaker 1: being honest about it. Here's what Rensky has to say.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Don I had very open and honest dialogue and the
- 14:04Speaker 1: sea and ended ideally this wouldn't becomes such a public
- 14:06Speaker 1: thing that this is the world we live in. Everything
- 14:08Speaker 1: got blown out of proportion. In my opinion, I want
- 14:11Speaker 1: to win. I want to do that. In Columbus. He
- 14:13Speaker 1: all goes on to say he loves his teammates, he's
- 14:14Speaker 1: twenty eight entries eleventh season. I mean, he's obviously a
- 14:17Speaker 1: fabulous player, coming up one of the Norse Trophy. How
- 14:20Speaker 1: does this end? Can he just go back to Columbus
- 14:22Speaker 1: And it's like, e man, he texts a few teammates
- 14:24Speaker 1: out of all locked in boys.
- 14:25Speaker 2: We're good.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I don't.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I don't know if this is like you know, he's
- 14:29Speaker 4: got Jud muldover right, and Jud's kind of a little
- 14:32Speaker 4: Hollywood and he's got some big names, and like I
- 14:36Speaker 4: had heard randomly, it's like he never really wanted to leave.
- 14:39Speaker 4: He just was like maybe trying to cattle prod Columbus
- 14:44Speaker 4: to make some moves, But I'm like, is that the
- 14:45Speaker 4: way to do it? Like so much distraction and probably,
- 14:50Speaker 4: you know what, this probably distracted the GM so much
- 14:56Speaker 4: in this organization trying to put out the Wrenski fires
- 14:59Speaker 4: that they couldn't really like dive into free agency. Because
- 15:03Speaker 4: if you're in that building and all of a sudden, you're,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you know, yesterday, you're getting ready to like sign some players,
- 15:10Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, it's like Warrensky wants
- 15:12Speaker 4: to leave. All these gems are calling you being like
- 15:14Speaker 4: what are you gonna take? What are you gonna take?
- 15:15Speaker 4: They're probably like fuck off, like we're not trading them.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And then they're trying to talk to Zach, probably talking
- 15:20Speaker 4: to the the agent. They're not even talking directly to Zach,
- 15:23Speaker 4: they're talking to the agent who's talking to Zach broken telephone.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I just think this was an absolute mess, disorganization at
- 15:29Speaker 4: its finest. And this is gonna hurt Columbus more than
- 15:32Speaker 4: it's gonna hurt Warnsky, because you know, there is some
- 15:35Speaker 4: good deals out there for him too in a short
- 15:37Speaker 4: amount of time, like that Dallas deal. Like I bet
- 15:41Speaker 4: you Columbus is pissed that he vetoed that as good
- 15:46Speaker 4: as Wrensky is Like that was like Harley and two firsts.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I'm like that says about as good as you're gonna get.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So frustration there for Zach When and Blue Jackets fans,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and say this for Columbus, say lost Marchman and jenneral
- 16:01Speaker 1: free agency. Meantime, Nate, what's you gonna take for someone
- 16:03Speaker 1: to sign with? Jason Robertson turned out one hundred and
- 16:07Speaker 1: twenty million.
- 16:08Speaker 4: They've got Curtis Douglas one hundred and twenty million.
- 16:11Speaker 1: This thing is are Toimy Peneren four years over fourteen
- 16:15Speaker 1: million per year from the Crack And it's okay, I'll
- 16:17Speaker 1: take less in La. I don't want to go to Seattle.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I'll just take less money.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I mean, I get what the Cracker are doing. They
- 16:22Speaker 1: need to find an identity. You know, they're a youngest team.
- 16:25Speaker 1: They're a boring team. There's only a lot of excitement
- 16:27Speaker 1: exception for John Fors and my guy, what are the
- 16:30Speaker 1: Crackers was doing?
- 16:31Speaker 6: Nate?
- 16:31Speaker 1: We're giving you the money. Nobody wants to take it.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I don't know. That's and that's no state tax too, Washington.
- 16:36Speaker 2: That's another state.
- 16:37Speaker 5: No state tax so but you know, he turns down
- 16:40Speaker 5: what fifteen million from Seattle, no state tax, So it's
- 16:45Speaker 5: not a destination. It just tells you that players want
- 16:48Speaker 5: to win, and they want to go to it, and
- 16:49Speaker 5: they want to go to a place that they know
- 16:51Speaker 5: they're gonna have a chance to win and they're gonna
- 16:52Speaker 5: have all the other entities that go with it. And
- 16:56Speaker 5: Seattle is not a destination right now. So I don't
- 17:00Speaker 5: know for Seattle as far as getting free agents, I mean,
- 17:04Speaker 5: that has to that has to happen within the organization
- 17:07Speaker 5: like it like all the other ones. You're seeing San
- 17:09Speaker 5: Jose do it, You're seeing Anaheim, Montreal, all these teams,
- 17:12Speaker 5: they go about it the right way. So I think
- 17:15Speaker 5: Seattle it's it's been tough for them because they've just
- 17:17Speaker 5: had basically what four lines of fall second line guys,
- 17:21Speaker 5: of the third line guys basically every every season and
- 17:24Speaker 5: they're kind of in the mushy middle always. So I
- 17:27Speaker 5: mean they're they're a team that's gonna have to you know,
- 17:29Speaker 5: they might have to bring it down to the studs
- 17:33Speaker 5: and and and start it over like other teams have,
- 17:36Speaker 5: you know, so and and then I don't know, to
- 17:38Speaker 5: add to the Jason Robertson thing. I mean, that's, uh,
- 17:41Speaker 5: that's probably another topic we can get into more.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yea, absolutely, but listen, Pittsburgh got Nick Robertson. They go, fine,
- 17:46Speaker 1: we'll go get Jason. We'll get your brother here and
- 17:48Speaker 1: Tyson whatever way you can. And I mean before we
- 17:51Speaker 1: talked about Dallas being up against with the cap, but
- 17:53Speaker 1: don't forget Sagan comes off after next season, so that's
- 17:57Speaker 1: nine plus million. The CAP's going up by ten million.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Is there a way that they can keep Robertson in Dallas.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I think they're gonna end up having to. And to
- 18:05Speaker 4: Nate's point of Seattle, it's just a it's a fucking
- 18:07Speaker 4: dump around the rink. Fix that, fix it around the ranks.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Can't You gotta just worried about getting stabbed coming out
- 18:15Speaker 4: of the rink after losing to to one to the
- 18:17Speaker 4: La Kings, and you you can't even think about taking
- 18:19Speaker 4: a shootout in overtime because all you're thinking is your
- 18:22Speaker 4: car on cinder blocks, so you're gonna get.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Car.
- 18:27Speaker 4: We're not wrong, he's I mean, like, I'm just calling
- 18:29Speaker 4: a spade a spade, Like it's not say the same
- 18:31Speaker 4: thing about skid Row in l a fix that ship
- 18:34Speaker 4: anyway to the to the other news. Where were we
- 18:38Speaker 4: I'm like just talking on yeah Robos, Yeah, I think
- 18:44Speaker 4: I think he will. I think, you know, Jim Neill
- 18:46Speaker 4: will figure something out. I think there. I think they
- 18:49Speaker 4: end up keeping robertson, or maybe he goes to Detroit
- 18:52Speaker 4: for Larkin or they find a way to bring Larkin in.
- 18:56Speaker 4: But yeah, man, there's there's so much crazy shit going
- 19:00Speaker 4: on right now in these signings. I saw Nick Jensen
- 19:02Speaker 4: to the Ducks. That's a good one. I guess we
- 19:06Speaker 4: haven't even touched on the Florida Panthers, the rat Cats
- 19:10Speaker 4: with Jacob Barstrow.
- 19:12Speaker 1: How about rad Co Gudus getting six years one and
- 19:14Speaker 1: a half million AAV six years.
- 19:17Speaker 2: For I want to ask too early.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I want to ask Nate this because I was sitting
- 19:24Speaker 4: in I went to a PA meeting near the end
- 19:27Speaker 4: of my end of my career in Toronto's with Brad
- 19:30Speaker 4: Richardson and he had a great idea. He was like,
- 19:32Speaker 4: he's like I think, and he pitched it before we
- 19:36Speaker 4: went to those last CBA talks and it was probably
- 19:38Speaker 4: like twenty twenty one. He's like, anybody have to He's
- 19:42Speaker 4: like we have to start finding a way to keeping
- 19:45Speaker 4: these veterans on the team that are over thirty five,
- 19:50Speaker 4: having them be able to sign small deals and not
- 19:54Speaker 4: count towards the cap, and just so that gives the
- 19:57Speaker 4: ability to keep these veterans around to continue the culture,
- 20:00Speaker 4: which I thought was a great idea. But what I
- 20:01Speaker 4: love that Florida did is like instead of paying him
- 20:06Speaker 4: a three year deal at three a year, they give
- 20:10Speaker 4: him six years at one and a half, knowing, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 4: Radco is probably gonna retire after two or three years,
- 20:15Speaker 4: right then, they're just paying a good veteran. They're paying
- 20:18Speaker 4: them homage. He's coming to the team, he'll be going
- 20:21Speaker 4: LTI R. And I just think it's like a great
- 20:23Speaker 4: way to take care of a veteran and also pay
- 20:27Speaker 4: him because like that one point five extra, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 4: is just kind of like a tip of the cap, like, hey,
- 20:34Speaker 4: thanks for your service. We'll ride you till the wheels
- 20:38Speaker 4: come off. But like, I think that's a great deal.
- 20:40Speaker 4: And I think again, I think Florida's hit it out
- 20:42Speaker 4: of the park this summer.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Mar You think Marsiman was a legit upgrade for Bob.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Bob was his worst year statistically, last year was Bob's
- 20:50Speaker 4: Bob was on the marsh, not a proven commodity. But
- 20:54Speaker 4: Marksham was incredible at the Olympics, So maybe it's he
- 20:57Speaker 4: needs to be in front of a better team. And
- 20:58Speaker 4: I think that Decourt is going to block some frickin' shots,
- 21:01Speaker 4: that's for sure. Look at that Decourt. I mean they're
- 21:04Speaker 4: gonna be. I think it's gonna be. I think they're
- 21:06Speaker 4: gonna be just fine with that team. And I think
- 21:09Speaker 4: they're gonna insulate Marquis pretty well. And I think somebody
- 21:12Speaker 4: made a joke they're like, he plays like a ves
- 21:14Speaker 4: goalie and then plays like an HL goalie. It's like
- 21:17Speaker 4: kind of opposite years. And last year he was like
- 21:20Speaker 4: an HL goalie. So this year he's gonna win the
- 21:22Speaker 4: Vesna and they're gonna they're gonna win the Cup again.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Florida Panthers can only hope. By the way, our special
- 21:28Speaker 1: guest days Keaton Barhaff just drafted by the San Jose
- 21:30Speaker 1: Sharks number nine overall, so we'll get him in just
- 21:33Speaker 1: a second. Again, Dylan Larkin's not getting moved anytime soon.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I don't think Steve Eisman's rushing to do it. I
- 21:37Speaker 1: think if there's a great trade out there. He'll trade
- 21:39Speaker 1: Dylan Lark and he's not gonna be pushed around by
- 21:40Speaker 1: this kid. He'll make sure that the deal works out
- 21:42Speaker 1: for the Red Wings. There. Playing makes sense. Let's get wow.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah, before you go to break, you can't. You can't
- 21:48Speaker 2: push around with Cvy.
- 21:50Speaker 4: You can't push around Stevie. Why but before we went
- 21:53Speaker 4: to break, Edmonton Oilers signed Frederick Anderson for Kevinhi. Really, wow,
- 21:59Speaker 4: I feel that Oilers might be cooking, folks.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I swear to you to call to day. I said
- 22:05Speaker 1: to Mike, what are the others gonna do? Because I
- 22:06Speaker 1: think they love to get my bosk and if not,
- 22:07Speaker 1: maybe Freddie Anderson? And I was like, maybe I just
- 22:12Speaker 1: hadn't heard that yet.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Wow, Freddy and Devin LEVI Wow, anyway, take us to
- 22:20Speaker 4: break baby.
- 22:21Speaker 7: Oh dude, that's great. We're gonna tak Freddie Anderson. That's
- 22:23Speaker 7: great if you know who feeling's massive, ad man, take
- 22:26Speaker 7: us to break. No, we just want one thought here,
- 22:27Speaker 7: gd I just want any thoughts in the draft again.
- 22:29Speaker 7: You can talk Sharks if you want. But McKenna, as
- 22:31Speaker 7: we all expected, went first.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Overall your boy stammer to the Sharks, Calebell Hot, you
- 22:35Speaker 1: to Vancouver, and now this Dad Jackson Rudolph, the Buffalo,
- 22:37Speaker 1: Albert Smith's the Rangers. Some guys dropped a little bit.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Vigo Byork at number eight, and again we're gonna talk
- 22:42Speaker 1: to Katon Verahoff, he's at number nine. What stuck out
- 22:44Speaker 1: you at the draft besides Justin bieber.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Well, I did it just to be I did. I
- 22:49Speaker 4: did kind of a breakdown on h on Chase Reid
- 22:53Speaker 4: and I I think he was the most complete D
- 22:55Speaker 4: man in that first round. I like that the Sharks
- 22:58Speaker 4: got air off, but he fell to Seattle. Like you know,
- 23:01Speaker 4: for everybody not wanting to go to Seattle. They have
- 23:02Speaker 4: one of the better decours in the league. I think,
- 23:05Speaker 4: you know, they lost the Lexiak unfortunately, but you know
- 23:08Speaker 4: they got what Larssen, Montour Donn, Chase Reid, Riker Evans.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I mean, they got a good decoor and they're pretty
- 23:16Speaker 4: solid back there in good goaltending. So to me, I
- 23:19Speaker 4: think Chase Reid dropping. I thought Buffalo it's exactly what
- 23:23Speaker 4: they needed. They went for a little bit more offensive
- 23:26Speaker 4: minded in Jackson Rudolph. But I thought that was a
- 23:28Speaker 4: miss by Buffalo because I think Chase Reid is going
- 23:31Speaker 4: to be a stud Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Originally I think I was looking at some of the
- 23:34Speaker 1: Angel Network rankings. They thought it might be the first
- 23:36Speaker 1: defensemen taken. Definitely get the top five guys. So interesting
- 23:38Speaker 1: how that all unfolds. Meantime, speaking of Buffalo, sometimes they're
- 23:43Speaker 1: really you know, Connor Hallibuck, remember, Nate, you were talking
- 23:44Speaker 1: about that. Potentially that could still happen. Bob Byron has gone.
- 23:47Speaker 1: He goes to Chicago, highest paid defenseman in the league.
- 23:50Speaker 1: As you said before, he wants to be number one guy.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Talked to Washington, Door, Fiev to the Rangers, Trocheck to Utah.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Gendi just talked about Marsham to the Panthers. Nurse. We've
- 24:00Speaker 1: mentioned Brendan Gallagher going to Vancouver, which non Brady could
- 24:04Speaker 1: chuck trade to you, Nate, are we not talking enough
- 24:06Speaker 1: about which of those movies you go? You know what,
- 24:07Speaker 1: eh Vala Chus going in Columbus. That's good, I.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Think, honestly. I mean, there's there's so many of them
- 24:13Speaker 5: trying to keep up. I mean the one, the other
- 24:15Speaker 5: trade I really liked was JJ Peterca to Boston from Utah.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I like that trade.
- 24:21Speaker 5: I thought that was a good move for Boston. I
- 24:24Speaker 5: know he's German. You know Marco Sturm, German coach, He's
- 24:27Speaker 5: coached him before. There's some familiarity there.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So I like that play.
- 24:32Speaker 5: That was the trade I really really like. And I
- 24:34Speaker 5: think what Utah is doing right now. I mean, I
- 24:38Speaker 5: think getting Vinnie Trochek is massive for them. I think
- 24:42Speaker 5: that's a that's a huge pickup. And you know, to
- 24:45Speaker 5: have what they already have at the center ice position
- 24:47Speaker 5: to add those guys. Those those two really jump up,
- 24:50Speaker 5: jump off the page for me.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Jesus woman. My wife just listening to a concert right now.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It's a big cheering section there. She really liked it.
- 25:01Speaker 4: It is she's cheering Nate great. She said, that's a great,
- 25:04Speaker 4: great con. We got all sorts of shit. We are
- 25:07Speaker 4: absolute chaos right now, but I love it. No, I
- 25:11Speaker 4: think poopy Pants Perterca going to Boston, I think it's
- 25:14Speaker 4: gonna be a good move. I think him going back
- 25:16Speaker 4: with his is uh you know, a little German brethren
- 25:21Speaker 4: and Marco stermol Unlockham. So No, I think, you know,
- 25:25Speaker 4: trade wise, I think you got to look at the
- 25:26Speaker 4: trocheck trades a big one.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Door A few of the Rangers talk to Washington. Which
- 25:32Speaker 1: one do you like more?
- 25:33Speaker 4: I mean, the tough one was nice. I like the
- 25:35Speaker 4: Bob one. Honestly. I think Pebrowski to Toronto. I liked it.
- 25:38Speaker 4: They were firing from the hip in Toronto. I think,
- 25:40Speaker 4: you know, Toronto's taking a lot of shit. But listen,
- 25:43Speaker 4: Drake is fire. And you know that's not just speaking
- 25:45Speaker 4: from the fact that you know. I don't have anything
- 25:47Speaker 4: really bad to say about them, but I think there's
- 25:50Speaker 4: a lot of question marks of what the hell is
- 25:51Speaker 4: Toronto gonna do? And they're answering those questions alongside getting
- 25:55Speaker 4: Gavin McKenna. So I think it's gonna be it's gonna
- 25:58Speaker 4: be interesting to see that team come, you know, October seventh, eighth,
- 26:03Speaker 4: when the puck's dropped.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I wondered about Buffalo a little bit. I
- 26:06Speaker 1: think they've been weakened a little bit, obviously, losing boat Arm,
- 26:09Speaker 1: losing Tocic. They're looking to make some moves and again
- 26:11Speaker 1: maybe they go out and get Connor Hallibuck, they solve
- 26:13Speaker 1: potential golding situation. We shall see. I'm still blown away.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Freddie Anderson, Edmonton. All right, that's the news as it happens.
- 26:20Speaker 1: By the time you listen this, a lot more will
- 26:21Speaker 1: have happened. But it's okay. We're doing our best to
- 26:22Speaker 1: keep up and we're on a bi we bie weekly schedule,
- 26:25Speaker 1: so it's all good. Keaton Verhoff. Now remember the sales
- 26:28Speaker 1: a Sharks, Sharks making moves. You're Keaton on his thoughts
- 26:31Speaker 1: on being a top ten pick number nine overawl to Sanes.
- 26:33Speaker 1: That's coming up right after this on NHL and Scripted.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Our next guest is the Pride of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta,
- 26:54Speaker 4: and recently completed a busy season in which he suited
- 26:57Speaker 4: up for the University of North Dakota, captain the Canadian
- 27:00Speaker 4: squad of the Under eighteen World Championships, and was one
- 27:02Speaker 4: of the youngest players on Team Cannon at World Juniors.
- 27:05Speaker 4: You wrapped up all that last weekend by being drafted
- 27:08Speaker 4: ninth overall by my Shan Jose Sharks at the NHL
- 27:12Speaker 4: Draft Live from Sharks development Camp. It's Keaton Verhoff. What
- 27:15Speaker 4: is up, my man?
- 27:17Speaker 6: How's it going? Saus Thanks for having.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Me Keaton quickly? Just you know, what is the whirlwind
- 27:23Speaker 4: been like since the moment you heard your name called.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Take us through that and just take us through the
- 27:28Speaker 4: lead up to the draft and what has been your
- 27:31Speaker 4: highlights so far.
- 27:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it's been crazy.
- 27:34Speaker 8: Obviously, kind of go through the entire year and folks
- 27:38Speaker 8: on the important part of the year and trying to
- 27:40Speaker 8: do what you can to help a team win, and
- 27:43Speaker 8: then you kind of get to the draft time and
- 27:46Speaker 8: combine time and all that stuff, and a lot was
- 27:48Speaker 8: going through kind of me and my family's head. But
- 27:52Speaker 8: it was an exciting time. I couldn't be more lucky
- 27:54Speaker 8: in honored to be drafted by the Sharks as well.
- 27:57Speaker 8: Obviously unbelieve organization with the players they have coming up,
- 28:01Speaker 8: it's it's special. So it's been a whirlwind, but it's
- 28:05Speaker 8: been so exciting looking forward to.
- 28:07Speaker 6: It for what's to come.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Keaton, You're from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Guys like Ray Whitney,
- 28:16Speaker 5: Mike Commodore, Jeoffrey Loopel are from there. You know, what
- 28:19Speaker 5: is it like and what was it like growing up
- 28:21Speaker 5: in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta And are you you know, are
- 28:24Speaker 5: you spend your summers there? Are you working out with
- 28:26Speaker 5: other guys there around around your hometown?
- 28:28Speaker 6: Yeah, it was so special.
- 28:31Speaker 8: That's a big part of my identity a big part
- 28:34Speaker 8: of the person I am today. I gotta give a
- 28:37Speaker 8: lot of credit to my roots in Fort Skatchwan. Obviously
- 28:40Speaker 8: a smaller town, but the hockey is so big there
- 28:42Speaker 8: and the town supports it so well. I remember growing
- 28:46Speaker 8: up and going to the U eighteen games and watching
- 28:49Speaker 8: those guys play and thinking they were in the NHL
- 28:51Speaker 8: and thinking they were the best players in the world,
- 28:53Speaker 8: and so it was. That was a big thing for me,
- 28:56Speaker 8: growing up and watching those guys in a small town.
- 28:58Speaker 8: And as I've gotten older, the support from my hometown
- 29:00Speaker 8: has been so huge and so and so much of
- 29:03Speaker 8: it too.
- 29:04Speaker 6: Like I've been I've had so many.
- 29:06Speaker 8: Kids come up to me and Fort Scatchwan, and that's
- 29:09Speaker 8: exciting every time that happens to kind of be something
- 29:11Speaker 8: that those kids can come up and talk to and
- 29:13Speaker 8: kind of have a have a conversation with because I
- 29:16Speaker 8: remember being in their shoes and yeah, so it's being
- 29:19Speaker 8: for Fort Scatchroan was huge. And as for now, yah
- 29:22Speaker 8: to stay my summers back and forth Scatchman and hang
- 29:25Speaker 8: out with my family there, I'll see an important time
- 29:28Speaker 8: and just being with my family and working out there
- 29:30Speaker 8: and skating there with my cousins as well, so it's
- 29:33Speaker 8: it's pretty awesome.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Do you have any NHL ors that you know, we're
- 29:38Speaker 4: from that area that you kind of talked about young
- 29:40Speaker 4: kids talking to you and you kind of giving back,
- 29:43Speaker 4: you know, did you have any moments growing up where
- 29:45Speaker 4: you got to watch skate with maybe some NHL guys
- 29:49Speaker 4: and how are those moments?
- 29:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I was pretty lucky related to the docs.
- 29:55Speaker 8: So I've been skating with those guys since I was
- 29:57Speaker 8: thirteen fourteen years old and been a little be out
- 30:00Speaker 8: on the ice with them, Zelwiger and kind of guys
- 30:03Speaker 8: like that. But I also kind of remember growing up
- 30:06Speaker 8: looking at Sebastian Coosa was a goalie in Ford, Scotch
- 30:10Speaker 8: when I was growing up, and I remember the year
- 30:13Speaker 8: he got drafted and looking at him, and so yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 8: I've been pretty lucky. B l scaped from some pretty
- 30:18Speaker 8: cool names. But yeah, it's been fun being with from
- 30:21Speaker 8: fort schedule.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Just to kind of continue into the draft quickly and
- 30:27Speaker 4: talk about you know, you know, you go ninth this year.
- 30:32Speaker 4: You were kind of one of the names that was
- 30:34Speaker 4: more talked about than other players, you know, in terms
- 30:37Speaker 4: of your ranking, and you started high and then you
- 30:39Speaker 4: went low and then you built yourself back up. Did
- 30:42Speaker 4: you ever pay attention to any of that or or
- 30:44Speaker 4: you know, friends, and how was that dealing with that?
- 30:46Speaker 4: Because I thought for you, it showed an immense amount
- 30:48Speaker 4: of maturity and and and emotional bandwidth to handle that,
- 30:52Speaker 4: because you know, again you're you haven't even been able
- 30:54Speaker 4: to prove yourself at the NHL level, at the NHL level,
- 30:57Speaker 4: and you're already being talked about, like you know, up
- 30:59Speaker 4: and down the ranking. So how was that for you
- 31:01Speaker 4: this season? And it did any moments that were hard?
- 31:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I think I tried to focus on I tried
- 31:08Speaker 8: not to focus on the Obviously they're there every single
- 31:12Speaker 8: kid at social media and everybody's kind of looking at
- 31:15Speaker 8: those rankings and seeing those rankings pop up on your feed.
- 31:18Speaker 8: But it was obviously some moments where you try not
- 31:21Speaker 8: to get too high and you try not to get
- 31:23Speaker 8: too low. But I think for me, the biggest thing
- 31:26Speaker 8: I was really focused on was just being with the guys.
- 31:29Speaker 8: A big thing that really helped me was just immersing
- 31:31Speaker 8: myself with the guys. And I was super lucky to
- 31:33Speaker 8: have an unbelievable team with unbelievable guys around me that
- 31:36Speaker 8: really supported me. They were they were always cheering for
- 31:39Speaker 8: me and always kind of being my biggest supporter. So
- 31:42Speaker 8: I was super nice both on the ice and off
- 31:44Speaker 8: the ice.
- 31:44Speaker 6: I mean a lot of my.
- 31:46Speaker 8: Year and year kind of have to give a lot
- 31:48Speaker 8: of credit to my teammates, both kind of with how
- 31:51Speaker 8: they were able to teach me some things on the ice,
- 31:53Speaker 8: but as well off the ice. I think kind of
- 31:56Speaker 8: being in that North Dakota locker room was something that
- 32:00Speaker 8: really grounded me, just being around those guys and knowing
- 32:04Speaker 8: it's not really the bigger picture for us this year
- 32:08Speaker 8: was was winning, and that was really what I was trying.
- 32:11Speaker 6: To focus on throughout the year.
- 32:13Speaker 8: Obviously there's lots of things in the background and lots
- 32:15Speaker 8: of things you see in here, but the biggest thing
- 32:18Speaker 8: I was really focus on with that group of guys
- 32:20Speaker 8: was just to win. We had so many guys that
- 32:23Speaker 8: were so bought in, and it was pretty inspirational to
- 32:25Speaker 8: go to the rink every single day there and just
- 32:27Speaker 8: compete with them.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 5: I mean, I'm so impressed by that because I go
- 32:33Speaker 5: back to my draft here, and like I did not
- 32:37Speaker 5: handle the pressure as well in in my draft year,
- 32:39Speaker 5: and I listened to you, and I hear you and JD.
- 32:41Speaker 5: I don't know about you, but it was it was
- 32:44Speaker 5: a stressful year for me. So to hear you talk
- 32:46Speaker 5: about it and you, you know, be so articulate, it's impressive.
- 32:49Speaker 5: So I guess I want you to take us through,
- 32:53Speaker 5: take us into the draft.
- 32:54Speaker 4: I was passed over three years in a row in
- 32:56Speaker 4: the draft from the seventh round, so I had no stress.
- 32:59Speaker 5: There you go, there, you go, there, you go anyways,
- 33:04Speaker 5: but you know, you know you're sitting in the draft.
- 33:08Speaker 5: You know there's four defensemen that are going ahead of you. Like,
- 33:11Speaker 5: what's what's going through your head at that moment as
- 33:13Speaker 5: you're sitting there before you're selected.
- 33:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I think for a lot of it, you kind
- 33:20Speaker 8: of sit there and you have possibilities of teams you've
- 33:23Speaker 8: talked with, and kind of you get to know them
- 33:26Speaker 8: a bit at the combine and see what's going on.
- 33:29Speaker 8: So I think I was trying not speculate too much.
- 33:32Speaker 8: I'm really trying to sit there and enjoy the moment.
- 33:35Speaker 8: It was obviously a little stressful time, but looking back
- 33:38Speaker 8: at it now, it was pretty incredible and I wouldn't
- 33:41Speaker 8: have wanted to go any other way. I mean sitting
- 33:45Speaker 8: through that, I think my family and my mom is
- 33:47Speaker 8: maybe a little more stressed than uh.
- 33:50Speaker 6: And.
- 33:52Speaker 4: It's always that, but it was fun talk about just
- 33:58Speaker 4: the combine and and I think I talked to a
- 34:00Speaker 4: couple of you guys during the finals and I asked,
- 34:01Speaker 4: you know, there's always some funky, quirky meetings with teams.
- 34:05Speaker 4: What was the team that kind of it was a
- 34:08Speaker 4: little bit interesting, you know, your meeting with them or
- 34:11Speaker 4: they did something different.
- 34:13Speaker 8: Yeah, I think there's there's a couple of different ones.
- 34:17Speaker 8: I mean, I think there's the usual ones. Some your questions.
- 34:23Speaker 8: None of them were too too crazy, but they all
- 34:27Speaker 8: had their unique quirks. Every single team is kind of
- 34:29Speaker 8: different and there it was fun talking with all them.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Was it Montreal? Did Montreal do like you had to
- 34:36Speaker 4: like put put a garbage can at a distance or something?
- 34:40Speaker 8: Yeah, Montreal did a garbage can and you had to
- 34:43Speaker 8: throw the puck in the bucket and it was kind
- 34:45Speaker 8: of test of confidence.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Uh.
- 34:47Speaker 6: I didn't when I interview with Montreal, they didn't ask
- 34:49Speaker 6: me that.
- 34:50Speaker 8: They asked me this year if I went to a
- 34:54Speaker 8: restaurant and asked for B L T and I asked
- 34:57Speaker 8: for a cheese on it, but the the whatever serving
- 35:01Speaker 8: me said the cheese would cost extra. And then I
- 35:06Speaker 8: went outside, got to my car, opened my bot and
- 35:09Speaker 8: saw there's no cheese.
- 35:10Speaker 6: And they asked what I do. So that was kind
- 35:11Speaker 6: of a weird question I got. But other than that,
- 35:13Speaker 6: there was wasn't too.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Many say drive the car through the restaurant or what.
- 35:20Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly, something something along those lines.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I have to ask.
- 35:24Speaker 5: You know, you're finally you're finally in San Jose. You
- 35:27Speaker 5: know you're there, you're at development camp. How has it been?
- 35:30Speaker 5: What has it been like being around the guys? You know,
- 35:33Speaker 5: I mean, what's what's the feeling overall now now that
- 35:35Speaker 5: you're drafting and now you're San Jose shark.
- 35:38Speaker 8: Yeah, it's uh, it's pretty cool, like I said, to
- 35:41Speaker 8: be a draft to such an amazing organization, with the
- 35:43Speaker 8: opportunity that this team has and the kind of people
- 35:46Speaker 8: they have around the team and sports staff and the
- 35:49Speaker 8: management and the coaching staff as well, it's pretty incredible.
- 35:52Speaker 6: So just with the as for the guys.
- 35:54Speaker 8: Too, like getting to all of them and being around
- 35:56Speaker 8: the rink with them and kind of meeting the people
- 35:59Speaker 8: behind the scenes.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Too, has been pretty cool.
- 36:02Speaker 8: Obviously kind of a couple of guys I know for
- 36:04Speaker 8: in the past, but building those relationships with these guys
- 36:07Speaker 8: that we're gonna have futures with together and be around
- 36:10Speaker 8: the same organizations.
- 36:11Speaker 6: So it's super fun and it's it's just a cool
- 36:14Speaker 6: experience as a whole.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Before we get into all things Sharks and I'm just
- 36:20Speaker 4: chomping at the bit to talk to you about that,
- 36:22Speaker 4: I want to talk a little bit about your you know,
- 36:24Speaker 4: your story. You're you're in junior Victoria Royals and you
- 36:29Speaker 4: decide kind of to go from the dub to to
- 36:31Speaker 4: No Dak and you know what prompted that decision and
- 36:35Speaker 4: was it a tough one at the time, and and
- 36:38Speaker 4: how did you you know, how did you feel about that,
- 36:42Speaker 4: you know, your family and making that big change.
- 36:46Speaker 8: Yeah, one hundred percent of a tough one. Victoria played
- 36:49Speaker 8: such a huge role in my life and my young
- 36:52Speaker 8: career as well. I had an amazing built family there,
- 36:55Speaker 8: amazing coaching staff, amazing teammates.
- 36:58Speaker 2: And management as well.
- 37:00Speaker 8: It was the spot that kind of gave me my
- 37:01Speaker 8: first opportunity in junior and people that first kind of
- 37:05Speaker 8: believed in me and took that step on me.
- 37:07Speaker 6: I know, coming into Victoria is pretty raw.
- 37:09Speaker 8: And had a lot of development to do, I think,
- 37:14Speaker 8: and they really shaped me up and turned me around,
- 37:17Speaker 8: and I got to give I was still thanking for
- 37:20Speaker 8: my time in Victoria, but yeah, it was a super
- 37:22Speaker 8: tough decision to make that jump in North Dakota.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Going on.
- 37:25Speaker 8: We had played out my six year old the year
- 37:27Speaker 8: and went on some visits to some schools, and going
- 37:30Speaker 8: to North Dakota just kind of felt like the place
- 37:31Speaker 8: for me, the people there, at the support we had.
- 37:34Speaker 8: You can go on and on about what's amazing about
- 37:37Speaker 8: North Dakota and I still could now and after one
- 37:40Speaker 8: year there, I I I have so much pride and
- 37:43Speaker 8: love for the program and and for the people there.
- 37:46Speaker 8: So it's it's been pretty amazing for the year I
- 37:49Speaker 8: have and for the team we're gonna be having next year.
- 37:54Speaker 5: Before we do get into Sharks, because I want to
- 37:55Speaker 5: let JD ask some more about that and get into it.
- 37:59Speaker 2: You know, I have to ask, what.
- 38:01Speaker 5: Was there a defenseman or a player that you really
- 38:04Speaker 5: kind of model your game after or you know that
- 38:06Speaker 5: you answered, I'm sure in the interviews when you rask
- 38:09Speaker 5: by teams ask you know, who do you monitor who
- 38:11Speaker 5: do you monitor game after? Who do you want to
- 38:13Speaker 5: be like the NHL? Is there is there a player
- 38:15Speaker 5: that jumps out at you.
- 38:17Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. No, there's a couple of guys. I think
- 38:24Speaker 6: I really liked Washington Thomas Harley after the Four.
- 38:28Speaker 8: Nations and seeing his game, and he's young, young Canadian
- 38:31Speaker 8: defenseman and is a bigger.
- 38:33Speaker 6: Guy and someone that I've kind of tried to model
- 38:35Speaker 6: my game after. Is just a two way ability.
- 38:37Speaker 8: His ability to defend and shut down guys but also
- 38:40Speaker 8: create some offense and move the bucks up the ice
- 38:42Speaker 8: of the forward tense. H.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I like that.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Actually, it's a good that's a good comp for you
- 38:48Speaker 4: as well, A great one. He's a good skater, he's
- 38:51Speaker 4: very I think he's he's underrated, I still think in
- 38:54Speaker 4: the league. So that's a good one.
- 38:55Speaker 2: I like it.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Talk a little bit. You're with the Sharks. First impressions
- 38:58Speaker 4: at dev camp. What's been your favorite drill and your
- 39:02Speaker 4: worst drill that you've just absolutely just buysed at depth
- 39:06Speaker 4: camp because it's a little bit of a grind.
- 39:09Speaker 6: Yeah, No, it's all been fun.
- 39:11Speaker 8: Uh yeah, it's it's uh, it's a cool experience here
- 39:14Speaker 8: and the drills have been fun kind of doing some
- 39:17Speaker 8: of that technique stuff and focusing on the small details.
- 39:21Speaker 6: That's super important.
- 39:22Speaker 8: So it's been cool to come here and learn from
- 39:24Speaker 8: these guys and and just listen to these guys as
- 39:26Speaker 8: well and soak it all in. I think the things
- 39:29Speaker 8: they preach are important, and kind of listening to them
- 39:33Speaker 8: and trying to implement the style playing in my game
- 39:36Speaker 8: and implement their little there's little skills and tactics.
- 39:39Speaker 6: It's been fun. And it's for the worst drill. There's
- 39:43Speaker 6: been nothing so far.
- 39:44Speaker 4: So uh oh, you're such a hey car radio love
- 39:50Speaker 4: that answer. There is some that one legged. I watched
- 39:54Speaker 4: that big seven, that big seven karmanop doing the doing
- 39:58Speaker 4: that edgework around the stick, and I you know, I
- 40:01Speaker 4: feel for him because I hated that when I did.
- 40:02Speaker 2: It was fun.
- 40:04Speaker 6: I saw that's awesome.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Are there any proper?
- 40:08Speaker 4: How big? How big is that fucker?
- 40:11Speaker 6: Seven to eighty pounds? I think is a beast?
- 40:15Speaker 8: Like not even skinny either, Like you look at like
- 40:18Speaker 8: seven to one guys, you think they'll be like tall
- 40:20Speaker 8: and lanky, But he's.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Tall, like built and like just strong. It's it's insane.
- 40:27Speaker 5: And he was moving pretty well around the like on
- 40:29Speaker 5: one leg, like moving around that stick like no problem,
- 40:32Speaker 5: Like he pretty well looks like too.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Yeah, people shipping on him in the on Twitter, I
- 40:37Speaker 4: was like, that's such a hard drill on your outside edge.
- 40:40Speaker 6: Oh no, speed, should have flip.
- 40:43Speaker 8: Should have shown him then showing me probably looked like
- 40:45Speaker 8: a deer on ice watching me out there.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Have you gotten to meet I me know, I know
- 40:52Speaker 5: you mentioned Joe and some of the other development staff
- 40:54Speaker 5: before we got on this, before we were recording. Are
- 40:57Speaker 5: there any other players besides Jason de Murz or current
- 41:01Speaker 5: players you've gotten to talk to since being drafted?
- 41:05Speaker 6: Yeah, there's been a couple, I think.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Well, I mean, it's a pretty cool moment right after
- 41:09Speaker 8: the draft and Maclin called me and talk to me
- 41:12Speaker 8: and welcome the organization. Welcomed me to the organization. So
- 41:15Speaker 8: that was a pretty cool moment for sure. Obviously talking
- 41:17Speaker 8: to a guy like that. Obviously he's at such a
- 41:20Speaker 8: young age. He's done so much for the league and
- 41:22Speaker 8: done so much as in his young career. It's it's
- 41:25Speaker 8: been an inspiration for a lot of kids, and it's
- 41:27Speaker 8: pretty cool to watch him play. So a lot of
- 41:29Speaker 8: those those guys and just guys that are seeing around
- 41:32Speaker 8: the rink and hanging out.
- 41:33Speaker 6: So it's it's been cool and it's been fun.
- 41:37Speaker 4: What you know, obviously we got to ask about I mean,
- 41:41Speaker 4: there's two guys that I think is great. I mean
- 41:42Speaker 4: you probably saw him a little bit, but how was
- 41:44Speaker 4: he meeting Jumbo and just feeling his energy. I'm sure
- 41:46Speaker 4: you've heard stories about him, but Joe Thornton, you know,
- 41:49Speaker 4: first impressions of meeting that guy.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Yeah, it was cool. It's unbelievable.
- 41:54Speaker 8: Actually, he's obviously kind of hear so many things, and
- 41:57Speaker 8: I grew up kind of watching him as being an
- 41:59Speaker 8: Edmonton seeing Edmonton and sounds that you play quite a bit,
- 42:01Speaker 8: and grew up seeing him play and just kind of
- 42:05Speaker 8: meet him and seeing him on the ice.
- 42:07Speaker 6: Was pretty cool.
- 42:08Speaker 8: He's obviously got so much energy and so positive out
- 42:11Speaker 8: there and really just wants to help the guys out.
- 42:14Speaker 8: So be out there with him and be on the
- 42:16Speaker 8: ice of the guy of that stature and a career
- 42:19Speaker 8: he had was was pretty amazing.
- 42:23Speaker 5: Have you had conversations with management or any coaches about
- 42:28Speaker 5: you know, where you stand or what they want to
- 42:30Speaker 5: see or you know, what they want to see out
- 42:32Speaker 5: of you as far as developing or has it just
- 42:34Speaker 5: kind of been Hey Keaton, just have you know, have
- 42:37Speaker 5: fun and enjoy this and we're just going to take
- 42:39Speaker 5: this day by day.
- 42:41Speaker 6: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 42:42Speaker 8: I think just kind of enjoy the experience right now,
- 42:46Speaker 8: folks on on the present, and like I said earlier,
- 42:50Speaker 8: folks is just focusing on soaking everything in becoming a
- 42:53Speaker 8: better player right here, right here, right now, and kind
- 42:56Speaker 8: of taking everything I can from the coaching staff and
- 42:59Speaker 8: the development staff and as well the players around me too.
- 43:02Speaker 8: I mean, these guys have been doing this for longer
- 43:05Speaker 8: than me and have some tricks that I can still
- 43:08Speaker 8: learn from them. So just be in a sponge out
- 43:11Speaker 8: there and learn learn from all the guys and the
- 43:13Speaker 8: cuating staff.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Talk about no Dak right now. You're going back next year,
- 43:19Speaker 4: right and you're gonna unless you just blow the doors
- 43:22Speaker 4: off in training camp, which it might happen. Who knows,
- 43:25Speaker 4: you might get you might get tempted out. But if
- 43:27Speaker 4: you go back to Noak, you know, talk about somebody
- 43:30Speaker 4: that maybe you know, I think your team is was
- 43:35Speaker 4: was just so deep top to bottom, but but talk
- 43:37Speaker 4: about somebody that maybe nobody really knows about that that
- 43:40Speaker 4: you loved playing with over there at Noak.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I could go on and on about guys in
- 43:45Speaker 6: North Dakota.
- 43:47Speaker 8: There's guys there that I've obviously became so close with
- 43:51Speaker 8: and really built good relationships with and bonds with. I mean,
- 43:54Speaker 8: when you're that close so that as a team and
- 43:57Speaker 8: go pretty far, it's it's relationships you never forget. But
- 44:01Speaker 8: I mean there's there's so many guys there you look
- 44:05Speaker 8: at it a lot of guys that you look at
- 44:08Speaker 8: the guys that left this year, Like I mean rick
- 44:11Speaker 8: Wood was a bit a guy for me.
- 44:13Speaker 6: Elis Rickwood who.
- 44:16Speaker 8: Makes that jump into the A at the end of
- 44:17Speaker 8: the year and end up becoming a goal scorer there
- 44:20Speaker 8: and was scoring three points.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Eh, yeah, ye had two goals right away and then
- 44:24Speaker 4: in the playoffs, yeah exactly.
- 44:26Speaker 6: So he's a guy that was so good for us
- 44:29Speaker 6: all year.
- 44:30Speaker 8: But I mean I could go on on, like especially
- 44:33Speaker 8: for like guys like Zamolik, our captain Livnavige and we
- 44:37Speaker 8: those guys are players that really define a North Dakota
- 44:41Speaker 8: culture and really built it.
- 44:43Speaker 6: I mean they're there for the couple tough years and.
- 44:47Speaker 8: Built that program back up and not saying back up,
- 44:50Speaker 8: but like we're so proud of our legacy and our
- 44:52Speaker 8: history and tradition, and those are guys that really really
- 44:56Speaker 8: displayed it day in and day out.
- 44:58Speaker 6: So lots of guys like that that really taught me and.
- 45:02Speaker 8: The guys and the freshman and the transfers this year
- 45:04Speaker 8: what it's like to be a North Koloka player.
- 45:08Speaker 5: I'm gonna I'm gonna switch things up a little bit
- 45:10Speaker 5: because I want to see we were talking about before
- 45:13Speaker 5: the show and and you know, now JD, you know,
- 45:16Speaker 5: being retired, being a former Shark, you know, Keaton, Like,
- 45:18Speaker 5: I want to ask you if you have any questions
- 45:21Speaker 5: for JD as far as you know, being what it
- 45:24Speaker 5: means to be a San Jose Shark also playing in
- 45:27Speaker 5: the league, getting there and staying there and you know,
- 45:29Speaker 5: I mean, if there's anything you have to ask him.
- 45:32Speaker 5: I know, you're you're there at San Jose. Tell them
- 45:34Speaker 5: about the bars, yeah yeah, yeah, no, no, no, none
- 45:37Speaker 5: of that about what bars to go to now hockey stuff.
- 45:40Speaker 5: You know, I wonder we're all just shooting the ship here,
- 45:42Speaker 5: you know, we're just curious if you have any questions
- 45:44Speaker 5: for him.
- 45:44Speaker 2: You know, we just see.
- 45:47Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I don't know too much. I mean it's.
- 45:51Speaker 8: Couple of days, but I mean, like just kind of
- 45:55Speaker 8: I mean asking about his time and what it's like
- 45:57Speaker 8: to play in front of the fans and things like that,
- 46:00Speaker 8: and what it's like to be what it means honestly
- 46:02Speaker 8: to be.
- 46:03Speaker 6: A Shark too.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Yeah, man, it was, you know, I started at twenty
- 46:07Speaker 4: one there, and I mean it was still to this day.
- 46:11Speaker 4: You know, I'm gonna be I'll be there doing pre
- 46:14Speaker 4: and post stuff and some studio work too. I do
- 46:17Speaker 4: a lot of TV with them now. I just love it.
- 46:19Speaker 8: You know.
- 46:20Speaker 4: It's probably the one place that I played in that
- 46:22Speaker 4: the fan base still, you know, was kind of embraced
- 46:26Speaker 4: me and embraced the way I played. You know, it's
- 46:29Speaker 4: it's a more knowledgeable fan base than people think, and
- 46:32Speaker 4: they just they love exciting hockey. So really, like as
- 46:35Speaker 4: a defenseman and a guy, I know your style. Watch
- 46:37Speaker 4: a lot of your game too, Like you know, you
- 46:40Speaker 4: do make the simple pass, but you do have some
- 46:43Speaker 4: I think there is another level to you as a
- 46:45Speaker 4: player in terms of risk reward that you can you
- 46:48Speaker 4: can add into your game, and I think you will
- 46:50Speaker 4: as you get older, and you understand because defenseman, it
- 46:53Speaker 4: takes a little bit of time, and there's no better
- 46:55Speaker 4: development squad than in San Jose, I think right now
- 46:59Speaker 4: in the league. So you're going to be in for
- 47:00Speaker 4: a treat, you know, once you decide. But yeah, yeah,
- 47:04Speaker 4: it's it's a loud ass building too, man like. It's
- 47:08Speaker 4: people don't realize how loud it is until you see
- 47:10Speaker 4: game one, or even if you see that, you know
- 47:12Speaker 4: if you're you're able to get a preseason game at
- 47:14Speaker 4: home this year. It's just so much fun. It's really
- 47:20Speaker 4: there's no city you know that that's kind of like
- 47:24Speaker 4: it's very underassuming, like you don't know that it's actually
- 47:27Speaker 4: this big hockey town. But everybody's a fan. Everybody loves
- 47:30Speaker 4: the Sharks, and I'm sure every single there's so many
- 47:35Speaker 4: people in San Jose that know who you are and
- 47:37Speaker 4: know your whole life story, so and they root for you.
- 47:39Speaker 4: There's really no hate towards players, which is nice. As
- 47:42Speaker 4: a player. You know, you go to other places and
- 47:44Speaker 4: you're gonna be judged a little bit more, and of
- 47:46Speaker 4: course you're gonna you know, Sharks fans will judge on
- 47:49Speaker 4: a bad game and stuff like that, but they root
- 47:50Speaker 4: for you at the end of the day because they
- 47:52Speaker 4: love good people. So it's a cool thing. It's a great,
- 47:54Speaker 4: great place to be a part of a great organization
- 47:57Speaker 4: too that you're gonna you know, you're gonna see Jumbo
- 48:00Speaker 4: more in the shower than any other player, which is
- 48:03Speaker 4: kind of funny once you start seeing a hall of
- 48:05Speaker 4: fame or just showering every day at the rink, said Creep, I.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Have the best culture there. But but but he's right though.
- 48:13Speaker 5: I remember playing, I mean, I remember going on the
- 48:15Speaker 5: road and playing in San Josean and being it was
- 48:18Speaker 5: on another level as far as how loud and felt
- 48:22Speaker 5: like it was. It felt like it was fifty guys
- 48:24Speaker 5: on the ice because the crowd be right on top
- 48:25Speaker 5: of you, and you know, the way that they played
- 48:27Speaker 5: it was so exciting. So you're you're you're gonna fit
- 48:31Speaker 5: in just fine in that organization.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I know. JD agrees as well.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Yeah, we're we have one from uh one more from
- 48:38Speaker 4: tal for you here, just a couple here.
- 48:41Speaker 2: King.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I just well, actually it's more for the guys because
- 48:43Speaker 3: I want to see what more advice they have for Keaton.
- 48:45Speaker 3: I mean, the guy got drafted less than a week ago.
- 48:48Speaker 3: But I'm wondering, JD, is there someone that in player
- 48:50Speaker 3: development or with the organization that you got to recommend
- 48:53Speaker 3: Keaton kind of make sure he I wouldn't say, kiss
- 48:55Speaker 3: his ass, but at least, you know, makes nice with
- 48:57Speaker 3: as he as he you know, becomes more a part
- 49:00Speaker 3: of the organization.
- 49:01Speaker 4: Have you met Burkie yet? Has Burkee been around there?
- 49:04Speaker 6: I don't think so.
- 49:05Speaker 4: He's one of the scouts.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Yeah, no, not much.
- 49:09Speaker 4: I think you'll probably see him, but he's he's just
- 49:13Speaker 4: an older head. No, I think listen. I think it's
- 49:16Speaker 4: Jumbo for sure, is a great guy to pick his brain.
- 49:19Speaker 4: I think Mike Riachie's a great guy to pick his brain.
- 49:22Speaker 4: He's been around for a long time. And and uh,
- 49:25Speaker 4: you know, I always loved I played with Tommy Wingles, so.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I played with Spece too. Spiece is a great dude too.
- 49:32Speaker 4: It's just you can't miss I think, just you know,
- 49:34Speaker 4: the one thing I was always told Keats is uh
- 49:38Speaker 4: is just be be a sponge man. Just ask questions,
- 49:41Speaker 4: learn figure out different ways to play, and see what
- 49:45Speaker 4: works for you, and then just take what works for you.
- 49:48Speaker 4: And but you know, not changing who you are as
- 49:51Speaker 4: a player, like stick to your strengths.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and only other thing for me is just I'm
- 49:56Speaker 3: curious Keaton like you are now joining what a lot
- 49:58Speaker 3: of people are calling probably the best young group you
- 50:02Speaker 3: know of prospects in the NHL. I mean you mentioned maclan,
- 50:06Speaker 3: he got Stenberg second overall, Michael Misa. I mean, it's
- 50:08Speaker 3: a pretty pretty great group. What's what's it like for you?
- 50:12Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, how many of these guys
- 50:14Speaker 3: are you familiar with as far as their game and
- 50:16Speaker 3: what they've already done, and and what's it like for
- 50:18Speaker 3: you being part of this core that that looks like
- 50:20Speaker 3: it could do some special things in the next few years.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it's super cool.
- 50:26Speaker 8: I mean seeing the guys and especially these past couple
- 50:29Speaker 8: of years watching their hockey and watching San Jose games,
- 50:32Speaker 8: it's been so exciting.
- 50:33Speaker 6: I mean the hockey has been fun, the hockey has
- 50:35Speaker 6: been high paced.
- 50:36Speaker 8: And seeing what they've done the past couple of years
- 50:38Speaker 8: and seeing the steps they've taken, and like with the
- 50:42Speaker 8: guys that are here and are playing on the team
- 50:44Speaker 8: right now, it's just as exciting hockey to watch.
- 50:47Speaker 6: And then you talk about I mean you had Ivory.
- 50:50Speaker 8: Had stant like Stenberg in there, and it's pretty incredible.
- 50:54Speaker 8: I mean the type player he is it's it's fun
- 50:57Speaker 8: to watch, I mean played against seeing him at World
- 51:00Speaker 8: Juniors and seeing a couple other events and watching the
- 51:04Speaker 8: way he takes over games and the way he's able
- 51:06Speaker 8: to move the puck and do everything is pretty special.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Is he the guy that's impressed you the most? Last
- 51:12Speaker 4: one for me?
- 51:13Speaker 8: There, Yeah, I haven't like seen skated like over the
- 51:19Speaker 8: course of the past couple years. I think over the
- 51:22Speaker 8: past year, definitely him, especially at World Juniors and seeing
- 51:27Speaker 8: him there, but at like at camp so far we've
- 51:30Speaker 8: been on separate team, so I haven't skated too much together.
- 51:33Speaker 8: But just as a person, he's an unbelievable guy and
- 51:37Speaker 8: it's been fun to get to know him.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Well, it's been fun to get to know you, buddy,
- 51:42Speaker 4: and I wish you all the luck at development Camp.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Get through it, go, enjoy Santana Rogo, get a little
- 51:49Speaker 4: pizza Antiica, and enjoy some time with the boys. But
- 51:53Speaker 4: good luck and thanks for coming on with us. But man, yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 4: thank you, lucky, Thanks man.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Thanks to Keaton Verhoff, Quicksten a Fill and sixty toy
- 52:10Speaker 1: story five cash grabbers what they should have just called it.
- 52:12Speaker 1: I mean, how do you not end this? After three
- 52:14Speaker 1: three is an outstanding movie. Quentin Tarantin, who even said
- 52:17Speaker 1: Toy Straight three is won the great movies of all time.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Heartbreak again. What he gives away with the toys are
- 52:21Speaker 1: sure the kickers with the toys.
- 52:22Speaker 2: What's the toy.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Toy Straight four? Unnecessarily Toy Straight five. I'm like, oh
- 52:26Speaker 1: my god. Now the toys are battling with iPads. Could
- 52:28Speaker 1: have just had a nightpad rather than spend one hundred
- 52:30Speaker 1: bucks in the tickets and eighty dollars on the pop
- 52:32Speaker 1: corny candy. But congratulations, his picksar another hit at the
- 52:35Speaker 1: box office. Tim Allen, just carrying, just carrying the mail
- 52:39Speaker 1: is buzz Lightyear to Infinity and beyond. That's where the
- 52:41Speaker 1: box office is going. Meantime, let's go back to more
- 52:44Speaker 1: of the moves being made. We talked about Florida. You know,
- 52:46Speaker 1: Nashville picked up Ross Colton, Jack Drewy Love the Hog
- 52:50Speaker 1: Maverick Bork, pretty good, pickup Lubushkin, they got him from
- 52:53Speaker 1: the stars, Saint Louis, Mason McTavish, Connor McMichael, Brandon Carlow.
- 52:57Speaker 1: They treated Jordan Cairou. We've talked about Toronto quite a bit.
- 53:00Speaker 1: We talked about the Sharks and Washington. I should mention
- 53:03Speaker 1: they get Jordan Kyru and Alex tu through Chase for
- 53:05Speaker 1: a signing boon.
- 53:05Speaker 4: They need to harn it too.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Yep. So those the the you know, the team is
- 53:09Speaker 1: making moves that look good as far as teams right now.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I don't want to say winners and losers JD. Because
- 53:13Speaker 1: there's you know, still some to be determined. But the Sabers,
- 53:15Speaker 1: as I mentioned, they're a weaker team now, losing Byronman Tuck.
- 53:17Speaker 1: They do at Zelweger, Auto loses Brady, but ads Willy Acklin,
- 53:20Speaker 1: Andre Borakowski Colorado. U said, you like because they get
- 53:23Speaker 1: Schwartz Anaheim, though you get a j. Greer, but you're
- 53:26Speaker 1: losing John Carlson, Gudas, Zelweger and Truba on defense. Your
- 53:29Speaker 1: thoughts and team that's been underwhelming so far.
- 53:32Speaker 4: I mean it's got It's probably a toss up between
- 53:35Speaker 4: Ottawa and Anaheim. I think Seattle, you can't really get
- 53:38Speaker 4: mad at him because they're trying. Ottawa just they need
- 53:43Speaker 4: to put that rink down town so goddamn bad. They
- 53:46Speaker 4: just can't attract anybody. You know, Brady leaves. You know
- 53:50Speaker 4: the return is some picks and stuff like that. But
- 53:54Speaker 4: you know they need players. They got some good talent,
- 53:56Speaker 4: Tim Stutzlo, they got some good you know, Jake Sanderson,
- 53:59Speaker 4: you gotta you gotta hurry up because Jake Sanderson's gonna
- 54:02Speaker 4: leave because if anything's if anything is certain in life,
- 54:06Speaker 4: it's death taxes in that Team USA group chat, and
- 54:10Speaker 4: that group chat's humming, and Jake Sanders is probably like,
- 54:13Speaker 4: get me out of here. Misa, Misa, Michael him, Michael, Mista.
- 54:21Speaker 4: You know Melata, I think I killed her with my carate.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Your thoughts in Anaheim. They could use a defenseman.
- 54:28Speaker 2: They could use a couple of defensemen.
- 54:30Speaker 4: I think Jensen.
- 54:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they get Jensen, which is a good
- 54:33Speaker 5: pick up. But I mean you have Jackson leccomb obviously,
- 54:35Speaker 5: but I'm looking at their d it's Drew Hellison, mitt Nikoff,
- 54:39Speaker 5: you know, Tyson Hens. I mean, but it's after that
- 54:42Speaker 5: you don't really have much. So I think they they
- 54:44Speaker 5: have to. I think they're gonna go out and get
- 54:45Speaker 5: one or two more guys, because you know, you lose
- 54:48Speaker 5: a guy like Truba and Carlson, those are tough holes
- 54:52Speaker 5: to fill. So and then I think, you know, you
- 54:55Speaker 5: look at what like I love what Washington did for
- 54:58Speaker 5: a team that didn't make the playoffs. Like I think
- 55:00Speaker 5: Washington really kind of hit it out of the part
- 55:02Speaker 5: with all the guys oh yeah and talking.
- 55:04Speaker 1: You still don't know if a Vection's coming back. And
- 55:06Speaker 1: I'll see this for e. G. Rockman a great point
- 55:08Speaker 1: on a vection today through four hours of covers in nhelwork,
- 55:10Speaker 1: he goes, he's kind of a DH now, but the
- 55:12Speaker 1: other day he scored three two goals last year, I
- 55:14Speaker 1: know it five on five. Oh, we can't keep up necessarily,
- 55:17Speaker 1: and he has to be a power place spost some ways.
- 55:20Speaker 1: But three two goals is thirty two goals. So we
- 55:22Speaker 1: don't still know if a Vets's coming back. But to
- 55:24Speaker 1: Nate's point, you're getting tucked back and you know he's
- 55:26Speaker 1: gonna score and Kyra's gonna score. So like those are
- 55:28Speaker 1: top end guys. I would think if they're clicking, Uh, I.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Mean, I wouldn't mind. And I could see OV. Jesus's
- 55:35Speaker 4: my wife's moving furniture right now over there. Sorry, you know,
- 55:39Speaker 4: I think I could see OV coming back halfway through
- 55:43Speaker 4: the year, come back right before just missed the first
- 55:47Speaker 4: twenty thirty games, Like just if.
- 55:49Speaker 1: You're gonna play, you're gona play.
- 55:50Speaker 4: If not, it's okay, No, fuck dad, he could do
- 55:52Speaker 4: whatever he wants.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Mess right, he's at least two fifty right now. You
- 55:56Speaker 1: think he's just right? Hang on.
- 55:57Speaker 4: They probably just said work workout, skate with the team,
- 56:00Speaker 4: come hang out, we'll sign you when we're ready a
- 56:03Speaker 4: million dollar deal. Will go win a cup if you
- 56:04Speaker 4: want to play. If not, just enjoy the KHL.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Now down, No, because if you have a ven you
- 56:12Speaker 1: want to the merchandise and the tickets and everything, like,
- 56:14Speaker 1: we need you for the whole season. Show up for
- 56:16Speaker 1: forty games.
- 56:17Speaker 4: They're going to be an exciting team Without Ov, They're
- 56:22Speaker 4: gonna that Metropolitan Division goes Carolina. Was Washington, Yeah, you know,
- 56:30Speaker 4: was Devil's Devil's kind of you can maybe see him there,
- 56:32Speaker 4: but it's really it's really wash. Like I think Philly
- 56:35Speaker 4: is gonna stink this year.
- 56:37Speaker 1: No, that's not true. There's still not Listen, they're on
- 56:39Speaker 1: car I think Carlson goes Lightning. I'm just telling you
- 56:41Speaker 1: Philly potentially.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Gets watch this. Okay, you heard it here first. Philly
- 56:48Speaker 4: is gonna be way out of the playoffs next year.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I can't wait, we have to make sure we remember this.
- 56:54Speaker 9: Yeah, locked up Tyson Forrester. If the doors are ready
- 56:57Speaker 9: to go? Oh yeah, you have the same exact team.
- 57:02Speaker 9: You have the same team that different playoffs.
- 57:06Speaker 2: We're gonna get off this. They're gonna get John Carlson.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Probably Dal give us your draft All Name Team. You're
- 57:13Speaker 1: excited about.
- 57:14Speaker 3: This, very excited. It's the first annual All Name team
- 57:18Speaker 3: brought to you by kidding. We don't have a sponsor, but.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Nice first and only one because first and maybe only.
- 57:24Speaker 3: We got a couple of divisions here. I'm big on
- 57:26Speaker 3: the names. We start with the Cruise Lucius Division, just
- 57:29Speaker 3: straight up fantastic name. Starts with Brooks Rogowski six seventh,
- 57:35Speaker 3: what goes to Vancouver. Here's another one. I like Timofay
- 57:38Speaker 3: runtso from Montreal. Actually read backstory on this kid, you'll
- 57:43Speaker 3: love it. Add now. He's actually a product of the
- 57:45Speaker 3: Junior Kings program. His dad Andre plays from Belarus and
- 57:49Speaker 3: played professionally, came to Southern California, became a stuntman and
- 57:54Speaker 3: has worked on films like Salt Jack, Reacher and Amazing
- 57:56Speaker 3: Spider Man.
- 57:57Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 57:58Speaker 2: I love this guy.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Evan Jardine like kind of a smooth jazz.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Sound of this love that smooth jazz.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Beckham Edwards to Detroit, Ben Roberto Henriquez goalie to Boston,
- 58:11Speaker 3: born and raised in Slovakia, Dominican Dad. You figure it out.
- 58:17Speaker 3: It's like another junior King goes to Winnipeg, the first
- 58:25Speaker 3: player of Samoan descent drafted in the and then Joe
- 58:33Speaker 3: again La Jerome's kid drafted by Calgary.
- 58:36Speaker 4: That's fantastic.
- 58:38Speaker 3: And then we have what I like to call the
- 58:40Speaker 3: the bond Villain division, guys who sound like they could
- 58:42Speaker 3: be a bond Villain. There's it starts starts, of course
- 58:45Speaker 3: with Eva Stenberg, Eva Eva Vigo Byork by the who
- 58:52Speaker 3: by the way, apparently already looks awesome at Jet's dev camp.
- 58:55Speaker 4: But he's gonna be. He's somebody that we had our
- 58:59Speaker 4: researcher in Ahl network said like, he's going to be.
- 59:03Speaker 4: He's like a Braandon pointlg.
- 59:05Speaker 1: You said that.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Stank in the oven. Keep going.
- 59:13Speaker 3: We got Anaheim pick Nikita Kliphov, you know you have
- 59:16Speaker 3: to have a in there. And then Pittsburgh draft pick
- 59:19Speaker 3: Parker von Richter.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Oh.
- 59:22Speaker 3: I don't know if he can play, but it's a
- 59:23Speaker 3: great name.
- 59:24Speaker 4: Von Richter is nice.
- 59:25Speaker 3: And then we have finally, we have the boy band division.
- 59:29Speaker 3: These guys all sound like they could be in a
- 59:30Speaker 3: boy band. Starts, of course with Buffalo defenseman Daxon with
- 59:34Speaker 3: an ex Rudolph. He's the leader, and Chase reed to
- 59:38Speaker 3: Seattle he's the shy one, of course.
- 59:40Speaker 2: And then.
- 59:42Speaker 3: This is the first time I've heard this.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Is I call this lazy. I call this hippie parents.
- 59:47Speaker 3: Lawrence are they combined two names into one, Tynan Lawrence
- 59:51Speaker 3: Saint Louis Maddix with an ex Maddox Dash and he's
- 59:54Speaker 3: the bad boy, and then.
- 59:56Speaker 4: Called the hippie parents Maddox by Jad I'm calling my
- 59:59Speaker 4: kid Mason.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Has a hippie name for sure. While there's hip music.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Well they're yeah, but like that's like Jackson's like naming
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: your kid Nason Nate and Jason that's actually a nice name.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: That's not bad.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: Actually about Jay?
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: What about Jade? Not Jake?
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: J j Jade is brutal.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: And then the last member of the boy band division
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: is Jackson with an ex Jackson cover to Ottawa. He's
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: the sensitive one. There it is, folks, you're your first
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: and only.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: All name team I like it.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: The boy tel that was great, well done, well done.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Tell I love that. Actually that was that was nerdy
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: but fun.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Last time we handed out flowers to Alex Steen. An
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: eventful summer so far from the Blues State officially named
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the team's general manager. You played thirteen seasons in Saint Louis,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: won a couple of Blues in twenty nineteen, immediately joins
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: the front office after retirement. Was a special assistant to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Doug Armstrongholdermine as president hockey Operations. You're thoughts she had
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: a former player now running a team. It's clearly is
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: a trend we've been seeing for a while.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Dah Steiner, I mean he's been around the organization now
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: for a while. I think he's been learning from Doug
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Armstrong for quite a bit. And this was just this
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: was the plan for the last couple of years. And
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: he's a brilliant hockey mind. And he was a great player,
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: really a good teammate. You hear everything about his leadership
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: as well. So I think he's gonna fit fit in
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: just nice. And I mean they've done a great job,
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: him and Doug hand in hand. I can't imagine this
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: like the draft and everything was Doug Armstrong. I think
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: he was him at the helm to maybe protect Stein
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: or if anybody came after him. But I think all
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: of these moves has been Alex DestinE, Alex Stine's kind
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: of vision, and I think it's been a good vision
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: and they've they look good right now. I like what
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Saint Louis has done.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Nate your thoughts on it.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: I think it's great.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: I actually played with him a long time ago on
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: a play with Everybody, Boston Iman. Alex Stein great, great guy.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean I think it's a it's a
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: great uh, it's a great fit. I mean, I like
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: seeing this former players, especially because Alex Stein was he
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: was like a top line guy and then he was
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: a fourth.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Line guy at the end of his career.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: So he's kind of, you know, he's been at every
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: every role and I think, you know, him being a
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: part of the team at won a Cup and now
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: he gets to put his uh, his footprints on the team.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I think this is gonna be great. I think he's
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: gonna do a great job there.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: He's Jack too, I might whatever that's worth absolutely jacked.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: I remember covering him in Saint Louis and he come
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: out with his shirt off and just damn, I gotta
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: get them too the gym.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Like yesterday, Flowers.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: We're also hitting out Flowers, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: You talk about Friday Night, Well, if that's something that
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: we do here, but what wait?
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: Are we talking about Swift?
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Swift and Kelso getting married a.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Insane like just who the woho do you think you are.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: That you can just get married at Madison Square Ground,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: the world's most famous arena.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: I know we missed.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: I'm shocked they picked that for all the locations, like
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: as rich as you are, right, Yeah, it's like to
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: go to Tokyo Drift, But what.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: Is msg going to look like on the inside? Though?
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: That's what I'm curious about.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Pretty sick, I think it was. I think they seem
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: to love each other.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: You you think you think it's going to be done
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: under five?
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: I don't know. I hope I listen. I don't. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: don't advocate for divorce, so I hope they picked the
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: right people.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: I think once he retires Challenge, he doesn't have much
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: time left as an NFL players.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: I mean, he's pretty busy though he's already gotta he's
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: already been retired for two years. He sucks for two years.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: He'll be doing media the second he's done playing.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Yeah, like he's going to be busy. He's got a
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: great career. He's had an amazing career, and I think
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: he's going to have a He's going to be good
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: in retirement. I think he's pretty business savvy.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Just not the first MSG wedding by they're probably gonna
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: have kids right away too, that's likely.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's true, probably right.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: What was that MG weddings?
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Not the first MSG wedding. Slah Stone sly Stone, sla
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Stone got married in Madison Square. I don't think it
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: lasted very long.
