- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, and welcome to the Short Stuff. I'm Josh and
- 0:06Speaker 1: there's Chuck and Jerry's here sitting in for day. So
- 0:08Speaker 1: it's short stuff.
- 0:09Speaker 2: And now cheop of cabra, that's right?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Is that? Okay? That was gold?
- 0:15Speaker 2: All right?
- 0:15Speaker 1: I asked Chuck said that before we recorded. I was like,
- 0:18Speaker 1: can you please say that on this episode? It was
- 0:21Speaker 1: just that great.
- 0:22Speaker 2: It's better than saying goat sucker because that sounds like
- 0:24Speaker 2: a very nasty thing that you would call somebody.
- 0:27Speaker 1: But that's the literal translation of chupa cabra. Chop are
- 0:31Speaker 1: means to suck, hence why they call them chupa chups.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I just realized. And cabra means goat, not cobra like
- 0:39Speaker 1: you would think it means goat, So chuop a cabra
- 0:42Speaker 1: means goat sucker, not cobra sucker.
- 0:45Speaker 2: That's right. And if you're already frustrated a minute and
- 0:48Speaker 2: a half in because you don't know what these words mean,
- 0:50Speaker 2: we are talking about the probably urban legend of the cryptid,
- 0:57Speaker 2: which is an animal that doesn't exist but has a
- 1:00Speaker 2: great legend around it, of the chew cup. Here I go,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the chewpacabra aka the goat sucker.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a reason that they call it a goat
- 1:09Speaker 1: sucker too, and it's pretty straightforward. Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I mean, one of the telltale signs at the chewpacabre
- 1:16Speaker 2: if they have come by your farm in the middle
- 1:18Speaker 2: of the night is you will wake up to dead
- 1:21Speaker 2: farm animals that have been drained of their blood.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Usually with puncture wounds in their neck, and often there's
- 1:29Speaker 1: a lot of them and some chupacabra sightings or attacks.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I guess, hundreds of different animals around a farm, sometimes
- 1:37Speaker 1: domestic pets, sometimes wild animals in the area are found
- 1:41Speaker 1: dead all at once. The thing is this chupacabra, which
- 1:45Speaker 1: is a cryptive we should say, no one's ever actually
- 1:47Speaker 1: seen one, and all of the sightings and evidence that
- 1:50Speaker 1: has been collected can be easily explained away by science.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It's not that big. And from what I can tell
- 2:00Speaker 1: there people seem to believe there's just one. Did you
- 2:02Speaker 1: get that impression like there's a choop ofcabra, like there's
- 2:05Speaker 1: a locknus monsters are speed a different species or race
- 2:11Speaker 1: of something to where there's multiple ones. Did you that's
- 2:14Speaker 1: the impression that I have.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I'm not sure I got that impression, but I'm not
- 2:17Speaker 2: sure that that that I'm right about that impression.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Can't you just say, yeah, Josh, you're right, way to go?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Is that so important for me? Yeah?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Well, should we describe what this thing looks like since
- 2:29Speaker 2: you brought that up?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, because imagine what we're about to talk about, killing
- 2:33Speaker 1: one hundred goats the way that we said they do
- 2:36Speaker 1: in a night.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I've seen its short as three feet tall, but
- 2:39Speaker 2: generally about four and a half to five five and
- 2:42Speaker 2: a half feet tall, oval shaped head, glowing eyes like
- 2:48Speaker 2: sort of alien shaped eyes, which you know, put a
- 2:51Speaker 2: pin in that because that'll come back, long sharp spines,
- 2:55Speaker 2: usually from the back of its head down to the tailbone. Strong,
- 3:01Speaker 2: a stinky odor. A lot of people say it is
- 3:04Speaker 2: sort of like a sulfur smell. Some people say it
- 3:06Speaker 2: doesn't smell at all. And then the skin can either
- 3:09Speaker 2: be like lizardy or like a frog's, or it can
- 3:14Speaker 2: be what's been described as like a fuzzy lizard with
- 3:18Speaker 2: like little prickly hairs and scales.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Fuzzy wuzzy wizard.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But here's a key walks on two legs for the
- 3:26Speaker 2: most part, which is one of the creepy parts.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, so there's a do you want to take
- 3:32Speaker 1: a break down, come back and talk about this, like
- 3:34Speaker 1: what people think it is or the origin of it
- 3:36Speaker 1: or what.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do it.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Okay, this is not scripted, everybody.
- 4:02Speaker 2: All right? Take two?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Oh wait, can it start from the beginning? You have
- 4:08Speaker 1: to take it with and now cheopicabra again.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Okay, and now part two of Chop of Cabra. So
- 4:16Speaker 2: you talked about the origins. I've seen mentions of this
- 4:19Speaker 2: all the way back to the nineteen fifties in Arizona.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It seems like it really picked up steam in the
- 4:27Speaker 2: nineties as probably as the Internet picked up steam. And
- 4:31Speaker 2: it looks like Puerto Rico, even though it's been found
- 4:34Speaker 2: in a lot of countries, supposedly mainly in South America,
- 4:37Speaker 2: but there's a lot of stories from Puerto Rico and
- 4:41Speaker 2: may have even originated, as at least the modern online
- 4:44Speaker 2: version from a woman named Madeline Tolentino in San Juan
- 4:49Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety five.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Apparently her description kind of set the tone for
- 4:55Speaker 1: the basis, or set the basis I guess for the time. Yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: of other descriptions and sightings to come that's right, very
- 5:04Speaker 1: similar to Betty and Barney Hill. She was the Betty
- 5:07Speaker 1: and Barney Hill of chupacabra sightings.
- 5:11Speaker 2: That's right, she was both of them.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So yeah, Puerto Rico is a hot spot of chewpacabra sightings. Apparently,
- 5:18Speaker 1: in just one year, in one area alone, there was
- 5:23Speaker 1: several hundred livestock fatalities that were attributed to the chupacabra.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And I mean in just this one town. Just hundreds
- 5:33Speaker 1: of livestock dying in one year alone is very bizarre
- 5:36Speaker 1: and strange. So you can kind of guess that if
- 5:39Speaker 1: everybody's aware of the chupacabra already, they might be like,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I think this is the chupacabra at work.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. If you've been online and you've seen
- 5:47Speaker 2: pictures of like chupacabra washed up on the beach, there
- 5:52Speaker 2: are quite a few of those, and most of them
- 5:55Speaker 2: have been thoroughly debunked and proven to be It's usually
- 5:59Speaker 2: like a with mange who had rotted such that their
- 6:03Speaker 2: skin receded and it ended up looking really, really weird.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Those aren't chupacabra. In fact, there are no chup of cabra,
- 6:11Speaker 2: but there have been some sightings in the past couple
- 6:15Speaker 2: of years that I did look up on YouTube that
- 6:19Speaker 2: aren't compelling that like where I was like, oh my god,
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's totally real. But it was enough to where I
- 6:23Speaker 2: was like, what in the world is that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yes, In particular, there's one from twenty twenty two where
- 6:32Speaker 1: the Amberillo Zoo in Texas found an image or like
- 6:36Speaker 1: a short snippet of some creature inside its perimeter fence. Yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like one in thirty in the morning. Yeah, walking around,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and it looks very much like a werewolf if you
- 6:49Speaker 1: ask me. It's got the big, massive, massive like back
- 6:53Speaker 1: and shoulders with its head like up around its ears. Essentially,
- 6:57Speaker 1: it's the way it's holding its arms and fingers make it.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It looks a lot to me like somebody who was
- 7:02Speaker 1: dressed up like a werewolf and got into the Amarillo
- 7:05Speaker 1: Zoo on purpose.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, fair.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's been chalked up as a chupacabra siety.
- 7:11Speaker 2: That's right. There was another one from twenty twenty three
- 7:14Speaker 2: in Bolivia, and this one also coincided with a bunch
- 7:18Speaker 2: of livestock death supposedly drained of their blood. This drone footage,
- 7:22Speaker 2: So it's a much higher, but it's near Auru City
- 7:25Speaker 2: and you definitely see like a shadowy figure kind of
- 7:28Speaker 2: moving through the field. And uh, I mean it's hard.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It's not as kind of clear clearly werewolf be looking
- 7:36Speaker 2: as the other one. But again, it was just another
- 7:39Speaker 2: recent thing. And you know, both of these could be
- 7:40Speaker 2: people screwing around with people. It could be dressing up
- 7:44Speaker 2: like what they think of Chupacabra looks like exactly.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So I mean Chupacabra, it's a fairly you can tell
- 7:51Speaker 1: it's a fairly recent phenomenon. I mean, the nineties really
- 7:54Speaker 1: are when it started to take off, and definitely it's heyday,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but it is found itself cemented into popular culture, not
- 8:01Speaker 1: just in Latin America, but in the Southwestern United States too.
- 8:06Speaker 1: There's been sightings apparently and everywhere from Arizona to New Mexico,
- 8:11Speaker 1: all over the southwestern United States over the years, and
- 8:15Speaker 1: apparently the earliest, the earliest newspaper account of it dates
- 8:19Speaker 1: back to the fifties in Arizona, which I found very interesting.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. And I've said to put a pin
- 8:26Speaker 2: in the fact that some people say they have glowing
- 8:28Speaker 2: alien like eyes. That's because some people think, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: there of course theories on what could be going on here.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Some people do think that it's a visitor from outer space,
- 8:39Speaker 2: or maybe a pet from a visitor from outer space.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I can you know, like et was left behind, just
- 8:45Speaker 2: like this chew picabra was, or that it is like
- 8:50Speaker 2: NASA was breeding like alien things with human things, and
- 8:55Speaker 2: this was one of those that got out. Supposedly, sure
- 8:58Speaker 2: as they do.
- 8:59Speaker 1: There's a veterinarian who believes that it was a genetically
- 9:04Speaker 1: modified vampire bat because I don't remember it supposedly as
- 9:08Speaker 1: a bloodsucker, a goat sucker in particular. I believe because
- 9:14Speaker 1: of the fact that this was biggest in the nineties,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think that whole left behind alien pet is it
- 9:23Speaker 1: was folklore directly influenced by porno for pyros.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Oh from the pet song.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, from Will Make Great Pets.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I love that song.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great song. But I guarantee somebody added
- 9:37Speaker 1: that to the folklore from that song.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Oh, so it was a future human that was kept
- 9:42Speaker 2: as a pet.
- 9:45Speaker 1: No, No, just the concept that aliens even have pets. Oh,
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's why I'm linking it too, could have been a
- 9:51Speaker 1: future human. That's the thing. Everybody's just throwing anything that
- 9:54Speaker 1: can stick at the wall, at the whole cup oficabra phenomenon.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It Again, it's fairly recent enough that it hasn't taken
- 10:01Speaker 1: full solid shape. Still, it seems like to me you
- 10:05Speaker 1: can say, oh, it's a genetically modified vampire bat or whatever.
- 10:09Speaker 1: The best explanation I've seen. You kind of already touched
- 10:12Speaker 1: on about carcasses washed up on the beach being dogs
- 10:15Speaker 1: having mange. Coyotes get mange too, and coyotes tend to
- 10:20Speaker 1: kill live stock. Yeah, if they're from the circus, yes, yeah, yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 1: The telltale signed to me though, is that part of
- 10:30Speaker 1: mange is the hair on the back between the shoulders
- 10:36Speaker 1: usually remains a patch of hair. Yes, hence the spikes
- 10:40Speaker 1: of spines down well the spine and the fact that
- 10:44Speaker 1: they lose their hair so they look really weird. And
- 10:47Speaker 1: apparently just about every single carcass that's ever turned up
- 10:51Speaker 1: and has been attributed or chalked up as chupacabra and
- 10:55Speaker 1: the autopsy is revealed it's an animal with mange. Well done,
- 10:58Speaker 1: my friend, Thank you. Well done to you too, Charles.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I just want to say one more thing. I had
- 11:04Speaker 2: tickets to see that porner. For Pyro's reunion tour last year,
- 11:08Speaker 2: you were one of ten got canceled.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because they couldn't sell enough tickets, right, That's what
- 11:14Speaker 1: I heard. Surprising.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but Jane's Addiction is on tour again, and I
- 11:20Speaker 2: love those guys. I just want to publicly say give
- 11:23Speaker 2: credit to Casey Nikolee for her work and if.
- 11:29Speaker 1: The one who was erased from their.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah, their history basically great, great call out. Yeah, go
- 11:37Speaker 2: read up about that because she's talking about it now
- 11:39Speaker 2: and it's not cool at all.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I also want to give a shout out. If this
- 11:44Speaker 1: kind of stuff is up your alley or float your
