- 0:02SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Mooney's Mythic Podcast.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: This is the Sleepy Time Edition, sponsored by A Good Night's Sleep.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: This is a gift for all of you out there who can find the night times a hard time to rest into.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: I thought I'd record a
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: a sleepy time podcast that we could listen to,
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: that we can all put on when we wake in the night or when we find it hard to sleep.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: And I wish you could see this place now.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I've just had a bath.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: My fire's roaring and I've got a candle lit by my bedside.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: When I finish this tale, I'm just going to
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: drop into my bed and have a really fantastic and deep night's sleep.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: And this is not really a story,
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: it's more a meander through nourishing landscapes,
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: a kind of sensual experience of the word.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Because I think anything too exciting keeps us awake.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: So do head to my other podcasts if you want a thrill.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Because in this podcast we're going to just really, really deeply chill.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Keeping on breathing and every time we're breathing we're just deepening that relaxation.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: We're just letting go.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: knowing that the deeper we can drop into our dreams,
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: the more that we can trust the vast part of ourselves to be so creative,
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: so magical.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: And when Faith woke up, when Faith woke up, she could hear
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: noises going on underneath her and she inhaled deeply and she smiled at the smell
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: that was curling around her cinnamon and butter and her tummy rumbled so she got up
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: she pulled on a thick luscious bathrobe she stepped downstairs
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: And there were many people, all different people from the village baking and cooking and preparing.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: And she remembered that that evening was the evening of the great feast of the time
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: when everybody came together and celebrated and nourished and danced and sang,
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: all getting ready for the great wintering,
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: the great relaxing.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: the great dropping away, the softening, the sleeping, the dreaming.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: But for now they were making.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: And she looked down at the soft, warm rolls, just cooked.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: And she looked up, and the woman who was making them was firm,
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: broad hands, nodded, and pushed a plate over to Faith.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: She bit into them, soft and sumptuous.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: You'll be wanting a glass of milk with that, said the woman, and she poured from a big copper saucepan.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: And Faith drank it.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: It was creamy and sweet and spicy and there was something in it that she couldn't
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: quite put her finger on,
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: but it was delicious.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: There were more people she saw as she looked around who were kneading and rolling
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: and baking and the ovens around them were hot.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: and they had a small basket and they were looking sadly at the small basket and
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Faith asked,
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: what's wrong?
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: And she said, ah, we want grandmother.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: We want grandmother bear to come to the feasting this evening.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Someone has to go and fetch her.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And we're so busy with our cooking.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: We want everything to be just right.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: I'll fetch her, Faith said.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And they looked at her, uncertain at first.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: But she smiled and said, I know where Grandmother Bear lives, the other side of the woods.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I'll bring these to her and I'll bring her back this evening.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Are you sure, they said.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: She nodded.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: And so they gave her the basket and a flask of something warm.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: And off she stepped to Grandmother Bear's house.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: The sun was warm and the sky was blue and yet there was something in the air that
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: told her that things were changing.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: There was something in the air that told her that soon they would be wrapped up
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: warm and cosied by the fire.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: That soon animals would be hibernating, digging burrows, deep, brown, in the earth.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: But for now, the air was warm.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: and the sky was blue and onwards she walked.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: And as she walked on the soft moss of the ancient forest
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: as her feet began to sink into the thickest, softest carpet of the soft moss of the ancient forest.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: She saw tiny mushrooms dotted here and there.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: They seemed like little bells to be ringing.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: And she smiled.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: And for a while she followed the path of the mushrooms, leading her deeper and deeper
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: into the wood.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: And there were tiny flowers too.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Opening, opening, opening, opening on the forest floor.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Bright yellow, soft pinks, blushing apricots, deep, deep, deep greens.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: and Faith thought of nothing but the beauty of the world and how safe she felt in it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: She began to relax and walk deeper and deeper into the wood.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: As she walked she remembered a time when she was little, when she used to
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: lay in her bed with her teddy bear,
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: soft and warm,
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: and she would hold the teddy bear to her with her blankets over her,
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: feeling so safe and so nourished.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And her father would come in, and he'd been fishing all day, and he would tell her of the vast oceans
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: and stories of how he always gave his first fish to whatever god was there
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: protecting him and that sometimes you'll be sitting in his tiny boat and a vast
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: whale would come underneath and he would be as if in the presence of a moving
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: mountain
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: It would go past, and past, and past, and past, and past, and past, and past, and past.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And he felt that everything was okay with the world.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And he would tell her stories of the nights when he was out fishing past midnight.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: he would lean back in his boat and look up at the stars and they seem to be
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: twinkling and smiling back at him and on those nights he would put his finger up to
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: the stars he would draw pictures all around
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: He would draw all the pictures, what he wanted to create in his life.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And it was as if he were telling the stars all that he wanted, all that he desired.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: And when the moon began to grow fatter and fatter and fatter,
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: he let the light of the moon dance all over him.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: And when the moon was full,
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: he would lay back into his boat and he would allow the light of the moon to shine
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: all over him,
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: her milky whiteness holding him safe.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: She remembered those nights and how well she slept and how deeply, deeply she dreamed.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: She remembered when she dreamed about walking through a wood so similar to the wood
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: she was walking through now,
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: she realised,
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: when she met a bear.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: She was frightened of the bear at first.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: It was much bigger than her.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: But it stood quite still and the fur looked so soft.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: She couldn't help but reach out.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And when she reached into the bear's fur,
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: the bear made a moaning noise and she knew that the bear was enjoying the feeling.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And so she stroked and stroked and stroked and stroked and stroked the bear.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And the fur just felt as though it were like velvet.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: It felt as though it could embrace her forever.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: And she found herself curling up with the bear.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Careful, the bear said.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: for a very long time.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: The bear's limbs began to get heavy, paw and calf and thigh heavy,
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: and any strains and concerns of the day seemed to unravel,
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: loosen themselves and the bear knew that when the bear woke these things would be
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: unraveled completely and a new reality would be born.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: The bear continued to drop, heartbeat slowing down.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Breath longer, breathing out slowly.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: When the bear smiled, a satisfied smile, as the bear's brain blankened.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And the girl remembered that she had had a wondrous winter,
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: hibernating in the heavy,
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: safe arms of that bear.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: And as Faith remembered her wintering with the bear,
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: She began to feel quite tired herself as she walked through the woods.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: And she sat down by the roots of a huge oak tree and the roots seemed to come out
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: of the forest floor like arms and they seemed to create a nest to cradle around her.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: And so she sat down
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: The floor was soft and the leaves seemed to cover around her.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Just right.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Then she lay there and she thought that she would rest a while.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: That she didn't need to pick grandmother up for a long time.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: So she lay there, comfortable and still.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: allowing her shoulders to drop, her tongue to relax.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: She sighed and let go of something she'd been holding onto but she couldn't even remember what it was.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: And she lay there as her eyelids drooped.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: She was so quiet and so still that a young deer came
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: behind one of the other trees.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: It stepped slowly towards her.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Faith didn't move.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: She was so struck by the beauty of the deer, by the colour of its fur and the delicate nature of its
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: And before they knew it, they were staring into each other's eyes.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: The deer's eyes, so brown and so large and so round.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: She didn't seem afraid of faith at all.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And they looked into each other's eyes.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: they looked into each other's eyes and the deer elegantly and slowly bent down
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: until it was sitting quite still next to face
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: after a few moments it rested its head in Faith's lap and Faith could feel the head
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: heavy and trusting and they dozed there for a while.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: The smell of the fresh earth filling their nostrils
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: and the leaves that had just begun to fall all around them and they dozed and they
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: dreamed dreamed and dozed and in her sleep Faith put her arm around the deer and in
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: her dream she stepped on to the deer
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And they began to jog, to gallop, to move through the forest.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: It was breathtaking.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Faith was loving it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: The wind on her face and in her hair.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: She could see so many trees.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: They all seemed to be still from a dance that they had been dancing for a lifetime.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: And she watched and she wondered if any of them would move around her.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: And as she watched and she waited and moved on the deer through the woods,
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: it was as if they heard her prayer and they began to softly sway and dance together.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: limbs stretching and opening, roots driving deeper into the earth.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: And with every breath,
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: with every root going deeper into the earth,
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: they seemed to suck up a kind of crystalline light that glistened all around them.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Deer galloped with faith
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: The trees danced, they danced, they danced.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: They danced the spiral dance.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: They danced the ancient dance.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: They danced the dance that meant that everything could find its rightful place.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: That everything could move at its own pace.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Could find its way, its way, its way, its way, its way.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: um um
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: deer stopped just at the edge of the forest and Faith nuzzled her forehead to it
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: and as she nuzzled her forehead to the star at the brow of this deer she could feel
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: so much flowing through her
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: So much suddenly making sense.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: So much resting in her.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: There were feelings that she didn't have words for.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: A rightfulness and a tingling and an always knowing.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: And a deep, deep, deep warmth.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: And a safe, safe, safe love.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: And when she woke, she was filled with it all.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: The deer looked at her knowingly.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: She carried on to her grandmother's house.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: She moved towards her grandmother's house.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: of the basket of food.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: And she was beginning to get hungry,
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: so she hoped she wasn't far,
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: and it was as if the moment she thought that,
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: her grandmother's house appeared before her,
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: and the bright red door seemed to be saying,
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Welcome.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And as she approached it,
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: and she walked through seamlessly and there was grandmother and the table was laid
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: and she got out the sweet smelling pastries and the ripe fruit and grandmother was
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: forming some spiced apple juice from her own orchard and they drank and they ate
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: together and then grandmother smiled
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: said, take me to the feast.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: And so they walked back.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: It seemed to be a different way, along a river.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: The river was so blue.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Faith had never remembered it being so blue before.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: And it moved
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: She loved to watch as the water smoothed and moved its way.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Grandmother saw Faith looking and she said, Yes, you can put anything you like in this water.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: You can put anything you like in,
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: any woes and fears,
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: any confusions or uncertainties,
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: and the water will move it all,
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: will move it all.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And so they carried on walking along the river and they shared with each other
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: things that they were worried about and the things that they felt concern or
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: uncertainty about.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: And they talked about the winter and all that they wanted to prepare and ready for
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: such a time of dreaming.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And they talked about all that they wanted to dream about.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: and they were good company for each other and they smiled at each other often and
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: looked into each other's quick brown eyes and knew that they were being understood.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't long before they were at the edge of the forest
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: And there was a little sadness because they knew that they would see other people
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: soon and that their special time together had come to an end for that night.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: There was also excitement and the thrill of the great feast.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: And the village was buzzing when they went back.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: The blacksmith was there proudly polishing some beautiful goblets that were to be
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: used for the special elixir of dreaming.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: And there was a woman there who was proudly polishing her wooden spoons that were
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: going to be used to stir the great chocolate melt that would be offered
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: And there were children gathering cedar and sage and lavender and mugwort and lime blossom into bunches.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Our winter dreaming bunches, they said.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: They tied them up and they smiled and they laughed.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And then the sky, which had been light, light blue all day, took an orange tinge.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: They knew that it was time to gather.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: So in a great place they gathered with a high roof but no walls and a roaring,
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: roaring fire in the centre.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: And they ate pumpkin soup, spiced and warming and soft.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: They greeted each other and they welcomed each other.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: And they talked of their winter dreaming.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: of their readiness to rest and rest and rest and dream and dream and dream and they
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: exchanged gifts blankets and candles and scents and they ate what they wanted and
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: they drank what they needed and they laughed and they danced all together all
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: together
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: all together and the fire roared through the night and the songs that they knew
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: were sang and then slowly they began to nestle and lie by the fire to yawn and rest
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: and drop and they lay on the fire
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: all around it on thick sheepskins and woolen blankets,
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: some wrapped up tightly cocooned and some with loose blankets around them,
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: some with hot water bottles,
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: each one having exactly what they needed for the best sleep ever.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: for the best sleep, for the first night of their winter dream time.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: And they knew that everything would be taken care of.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: They just needed to let go, let go, let go, let go.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: And they saw their dreams stretching out in front of them, colourful and inviting.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: and all that was stopping them from dropping deeper and deeper into their dreams
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: was releasing its hold,
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: loosening its grip.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: They let go and they let go and they let go, deeper and deeper into sleep.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: There's so much we can trust.
- 31:42Let it go.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Safety.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: Deep breath.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Magic.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Grace.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Mystery.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Leaving you there, my friends.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Leaving you there.
