Transcript
- 0:25All right, you are in the treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley, along with
- 0:30Trey Trenholme and dear friend comedian actor Raj Sharma. Hello morning, gentlemen,
- 0:38Good morning or afternoon, depending on what time you hit play on this episode.
- 0:44So, speaking of episodes, we are still somewhat fresh off the heels
- 0:50of our of our road show at Daddy Rabbits, bub and Louisville, which
- 0:56I think it's safe to say we all had a pretty good time and it
- 0:59was a great turnout. The place was once again packed, so yeah for
- 1:02us, Yeah, yeah. Or as as Tray said to me later on
- 1:06that evening or the next morning, he's like, you know what, Dan,
- 1:07it really amazes me that people drive so far just to watch us talk.
- 1:17It does. Yeah, that is true. I know, yeah,
- 1:22right, you have to be a little more used to it. It's what
- 1:23you do for a living, people, you know. Yeah. I had
- 1:27a couple the last I was at the Addison and Problem that drove from which
- 1:32Tough Falls um and then went straight back after the show, and I was
- 1:37like that, Okay, that's pretty cool, but yeah it was. That
- 1:41was really it was. It was nice to see I haven't done one of
- 1:42the road shows. I'm not done the thing. It was the second one,
- 1:47right, yeah. Yeah, it's not like we've done a ton without
- 1:49you, it's two. No, But it was really it was really cool
- 1:53to see like just how much everyone enjoys the show and are willing to come
- 2:01out because it's five o'clock because it was the star time, I think,
- 2:05yeah, right, it was five o'clock, and so it was packed.
- 2:07At four thirty. I think you were then at the ease and you're a
- 2:09little nervous because for thirty and there was a there was a handful of people.
- 2:14By five, I think the place was full. Yeah, and you
- 2:16at one point lean over and were like, you know, there's still more
- 2:21people coming, and I'm like, I don't know where they're going to go.
- 2:24I don't know where they're gonna sit. Well, I know some of
- 2:27them ended up sitting in the back basically in the bathroom. Yeah, and
- 2:34in the hallway that led to the bathrooms, and right before the hallway,
- 2:38people were crammed around the two the two pool tables. Yeah. So it
- 2:44was it was a great turnout. So everyone that came, thank you very
- 2:46much. We appreciate and it was great seeing everybody. The dangerous thing though
- 2:53about doing a live event isn't so much about putting are putting our imposter syndromes
- 3:01on full display as far as wondering, oh my god, as anyone going
- 3:05to come to see us, I don't know, please please don't, please,
- 3:07don't let us embarrass ourselves in front of this new establishment. So at
- 3:13least that that part, yeah, was fine. But the other dangerous part
- 3:17is when people come, they have a tendency to bring stuff which can be
- 3:23great. Like Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing raje I showed you. She brought me
- 3:30this Band of Brothers. Yeah, yeah, that was really cool. So
- 3:34she had found this book. The book is a Band of Brothers that it
- 3:38was used for the Band of Brothers mini series back in like two thousand and
- 3:44two thousand and one at Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced, and it's one of
- 3:47my favorite shows of all time. And I've read the book as well.
- 3:51Well. She found this book and it had and she had gone to this
- 3:55event. I can't remember exactly all the details because you know, I've brain
- 3:59fall, but she basically met almost the entire cast and they autographed the book
- 4:10and then the actors put the real life soldier that they portrayed in the show,
- 4:16so they so you would know who they were and everything, because you
- 4:19know, it's autographs or scribbles and you can't read a half of them anyway.
- 4:23So anyway, that was a great thing. She brought that and gave
- 4:25that to me because she knew she knew that I was a huge fan of
- 4:28the series, and so that was cool. Robert Powell, our dear friend
- 4:32Robert Powell, who's been a long time listener of the show, did me
- 4:36a solid. He told me months ago when Bluebell released the Doctor Pepper float
- 4:43ice cream flavor. He's like, are you gonna be able to get some?
- 4:46And I was like, man, I don't know if there's gonna be
- 4:47any left by the time I get into town. And he's like, I
- 4:50got you, and he did. He brought a cooler with four four pints
- 4:58of the Doctor Pepper ice cream that are now sitting in the freezer of my
- 5:02Airbnb. That's great. I didn't know that that was a flavor, but
- 5:06that sounds cool. Actually missed that. Uh, I'm not a bit I
- 5:12mean Doctor Pepper. If it was, I don't, I don't, I
- 5:15don't seek I don't seek out the dock. Well, I know it was
- 5:18for about two or three days. You were hard pressed again on any social
- 5:24media and not see something about the you know, water Burger doctor Pepper float.
- 5:31They do a doctor Pepper milkshake. That's what it is, Okay,
- 5:35but uh and here's what's interesting, And it's kind of blasphemy to say,
- 5:42but if you take the doctor Pepper float ice cream and then put some coke
- 5:46at it, it's actually really tasty. How dare you, sir? How
- 5:50dare you say something so clearly untextan that man did not go to four years
- 5:57of medical school, unless, of course less of course, by coke,
- 6:00you mean doctor pepper, because that is something Texan is. We refer to
- 6:09every soda as coke. Yeah, and I think the Addison improv actually has
- 6:13it on the gun they have like if you order a doctor Pepper, you
- 6:15will get doctor Pepper. That's that's the like I hadn't had. I don't
- 6:20think I had a full what they say, like a full fat or a
- 6:26full normal doctor Pepper because my whole family was diabetics, so like like eighty
- 6:32nine, everything in my house switched to diet everything, and I remember the
- 6:36manager, Jay was like, I'm gonna get a doctor Pepper and I was
- 6:40like, oh, well, what do you have again, going back to
- 6:43everything as a coker or whatever, and he's like, no, we actually
- 6:45have doctor Pepper, and I forgot how good it just stood on its own.
- 6:49I was like, all right, and I don't really seek it out,
- 6:51but it's a it's a pretty so it's a pretty solid drink. Twenty
- 6:58three ingredients or whatever it is. Is it still right? Usually they're on
- 7:00the on the on the can or the bottle, and still to this day,
- 7:03no one knows what most of them are. Yeah, it's like KFC.
- 7:08Actually, I think the KFC recipe got leaked years ago. You can
- 7:11find that online somewhere. Oh I need to do that. Um. But
- 7:14yeah, I I I'm I was a Pepsi generation kid, So like Michael
- 7:19Jackson got me drinking pepsi. Oh, I'm a I'm a pepsi guy.
- 7:26You're you're part of the one generation. Yeah, that m'd have been a
- 7:30mesquite thing, because otherwise there's you're and I are the same age Roger,
- 7:36there was no pepsi generation. I was. I was a part of it.
- 7:40I mean except except if you were in that small window and here that
- 7:45this will really date me where when Coke introduced new coke, then there was
- 7:50you know, there's a small sliver of people that went to pepsi because yeah,
- 7:55yeah, I remember, and I didn't drink enough regular cooked and like
- 8:01I think I had a new coke once. Maybe I don't know, I
- 8:05just remember, like I remember all the debaccles. I remember the new coke
- 8:07and then crystal Pepsi was my favorite failure. See, to me, that's
- 8:11the sweet spot is we're all old enough slash young enough to remember both yecause
- 8:18I remember I still remember how whatever whatever year it was, but I still
- 8:22remember being in the grocery store. I think it was I think this was
- 8:26so far back that it wasn't Albertson's and it wasn't jewel Osco. It was
- 8:31all the way back to the store. It was Scaggs Alphabeta. Yeah,
- 8:35and I remember going into Stags. I remember going into Skags and seeing new
- 8:41coke, and even as even as a child, I remember thinking, why
- 8:43are they messing with something that's already perfect? Well, why do you need
- 8:48new coke? And then extending that sweet spot out into the early nineties when
- 8:54Crystal Pepsi was a thing and everyone knew. Everyone knew before it came out
- 9:00it was gonna flop, even though they had the really cool uh super Bowl
- 9:03commercial with Van Halen singing the song and everything. And I'll admit I went
- 9:09to the store. I got the Crystal pepsi. I think I ended up
- 9:11having like two two leader bottles. And then I was like, yeah,
- 9:16this is this kind of gross. I gave it a fair shot, man,
- 9:20I go. I went in two two Leaders, and I was like,
- 9:22I can still actually taste this seriously after taste twenty years thirty years later,
- 9:28I do you you were a better man than me. I got the
- 9:31one and I begged and I was like, I you know, Michael Jackson
- 9:35got me on pepsi because he was in and he was the Jackson five in
- 9:39the commercial. I'm like, oh my god, this is gonna be great.
- 9:41And I'm like, I'm on board with whatever they bring out. I'm
- 9:45on board. And I got the I asked my mom, I'm like please,
- 9:48it's like where all that bet X. I'm like, but please?
- 9:50And uh. I got the two Leader and I was like, wow,
- 9:54that this is diabetes. Like this is like, this is how you get
- 9:58it as when I drinking. But but then I went to college and I
- 10:03remember I was like, oh, so the guy from Crystal PEPSI recovered his
- 10:07money with ziema. Same guy. No, I'm just assuming there was just
- 10:13so much of that leftover. They're like, hey, how about we just
- 10:16put alcohol in it, Like, let's see what we can that does actually
- 10:20the flavor if I mean, it's been a while since I've had either one,
- 10:22but from my memory banks the flavor profile seemed very similar. Yeah,
- 10:28there was a place in off Sunset called Laser Cat and it was an eighties
- 10:31themed bar. Oh my god. And they did the zema and they gave
- 10:35you a like a when you ordered your zeema, they gave you a little
- 10:37cup of jolly ranchers. I don't know if you guys, Yeah, oh
- 10:41yeah, and you had your different flavors so you could put your jolly rancher
- 10:43in. So basically it was the homemade homemade white cloth. Yes, you
- 10:50know, that's probably what it was. That whoever it was that came up
- 10:54with the whole white cloth thing that started this whole seltzer you know, uh
- 10:58thing now, probably was exactly inspired by the zeeman, the jolly ranchers and
- 11:03said, oh, I'll just make this a totally new drink and call it
- 11:05a new name. And next thing you know, everyone's got a freaking seltzer.
- 11:09Yeah. I just, uh, the white cloth thing took off like
- 11:13I didn't. I didn't think it would. And I don't know if it
- 11:18was just like soccer models. I gave them a reason, like it's like,
- 11:20hey, I'm not an alcoholic, I drink a seltzer. I'm like,
- 11:24okay, when you're nineteen mango white claws in and topless, yes,
- 11:37tell me more about how about how you're just a casual drinker your kids soccer
- 11:43game? If you if if you're nineteen white claws in in your mom and
- 11:50your mom tumbler, and you are running up and down the sideline of your
- 11:54six year old soccer game, ripping your shirt off Brandy chat Stain style but
- 11:58not having the sports brought underneath and whipping it around your head like you're at
- 12:03the rodeo going woo hoo Timmy. Especially when there's no Timmy on the team,
- 12:16you might have a problem. Yeah, it's the the white clat And
- 12:20then uh, I saw this at my my nephew's soccer game. They this
- 12:26is sneaky and it's fun, kind of sneaky, but they have the wine
- 12:31in the juice box. Oh right, have you seen this? It looks
- 12:35like a so it looks like the moms are on the side drinking juice like
- 12:43the little box. Yeah, it's like the little um whatever it was,
- 12:46the little apple juice box. It used to get in school or whatever.
- 12:50But it's like a full glass of wine. And so they have this like
- 12:54kind of like this mom nod that they're like, hey, it's in that
- 12:56cool over there, and they all go over and I'm like, wow,
- 13:00you guys are you guys are drinking in a child's sporting event. Like I
- 13:05think as a society, this is why I don't have kids, Because I
- 13:09don't. I don't have to come to that low point like where I'm like,
- 13:13how can I make this six year old? How can I make this
- 13:16occer to be more interesting? I get loaded, to be fair. When
- 13:20you're watching a bunch of five and six and seven year olds play soccer,
- 13:22they all look drunk. Yeah, I mean the three of us have spent
- 13:31enough time in and around bars to realize, Yeah, seeing a bunch of
- 13:35five and six and seven year olds chasing one ball around a field all huddled
- 13:39together is very similar to a bunch of drunks at water Burger at two am.
- 13:45Yes, just flocking, flocking to it. But I'll tell you what
- 13:50completely changed the trajectory as far as the soccer, you know, motherhood,
- 13:54you know phenomenon and drinking at the kids sporting event was the Steel Cup because
- 14:01once the Steel Cup came out, they could hide whatever their adult beverage was
- 14:07at eight am. Yeah. Yeah. Well. Also, the other thing
- 14:13that really that sparked that I think is was COVID because at a certain point
- 14:20after homeschooling their kids, a bunch of mothers were like, yeah, they
- 14:24used to try to hide it from each other. No, I don't really
- 14:26drink that much. Then I think it all their crap got laid out and
- 14:28they're like, yeah, you know, I'm cracking one at ten thirty in
- 14:31the morning when I'm trying to teach timmy algebra, and or they decided,
- 14:37you know what, because they had to, you know, have the kids
- 14:39at home, but then they also had to jump on zoom for work purposes,
- 14:43so they needed to hide the booze in the water tank, so they
- 14:48would be on like, you know, meeting at work and everyone's drinking out
- 14:52of these metal cups and everyone knows it's booze, but no one says it.
- 14:56I think I think we just stumbled onto and I don't know. We
- 15:00might have to edit this out just so we don't let the idea leak because
- 15:03it's brilliant. But if you did the seltzer in the Sparklets container with the
- 15:11like, if you did like if you had a whole like you mean,
- 15:13like the five gallon just yes, like the actual water cooler. Yes,
- 15:20Okay, now guys, okay, I've come up with some hair brained business
- 15:24ideas before, but follow me on this one. Okay, okay, this
- 15:30would sell right like the Sparklets guy, but it's like it's our version white
- 15:35Claw or whatever, like you can and it doesn't have to be I mean,
- 15:37come on, it doesn't have to be a five gallon. You can
- 15:39do like a three gallon or maybe a one like tabletop and it's like the
- 15:46places like the bars and stuff that do the Tower of Beer or whatever.
- 15:50But this is for your home and or soccer practice. I don't know how
- 15:56there's there's some marketing stuff and some logistics that have to be worked out.
- 16:00But I could see that, like the Sparklets guy just coming up and just
- 16:03knock them down like a manko selser in front of your door. But but
- 16:07you're saying it has to be hidden, so it's actually in a Sparklets jug
- 16:11right, as opposed to the jug having like the white claw label on it.
- 16:15Right, It just like Sparklets is misspelled so that we don't get sued
- 16:19with a Z at the beginning. So when you slur like you're in the
- 16:34treehous visit us online at Treehouse OnAir dot com. The phone number you're going

- 16:59Sonnie, I'm curious, what is it that you're seeing in the housing
- 17:02market right now? Are there a bunch of first time home buyers getting in
- 17:04the market, is a bunch of move up buyers? What's going on?
- 17:07We're seeing a lot of move up buyers and a lot of people right sizing
- 17:11people sitting there and they're moving all different areas. I just talked to Kim
- 17:15and her husband a little bit ago. They live in Dallas right now.
- 17:18They want to move to Azel. They want to get out of the traffic.
- 17:22They want to get move out a little bit. So they're making an
- 17:26offer today on a house in Azel. We're seeing a lot of people just
- 17:29relocate for school rezonings for all different reasons. But Dan, we always tell
- 17:34people you have to be preapproved up front. Kim and Kim and Casey,
- 17:41they went out and found this house in Azel. The house has been on
- 17:44the market for a while. The sellers already found another house, so they
- 17:48can go out and make an offer on this thing. We'll be closed in
- 17:52the loan in fifteen days or less and they can go out and find the
- 17:55house that they really wanted and it really fits the seller because the seller at
- 17:59all he found another house as well. These are just a couple of the
- 18:02reasons why when you're ready to get into that housing market, you need to
- 18:04give Rodney and his team a call. They can help you get to the
- 18:07finish line very very very quickly, and that can actually help you when it
- 18:12comes time to getting that home. So give him in his team a call.

- 19:26was the show that you were saying that that Trey and I need to watch
- 19:27on Netflix? Because I know Netflix has has sort of gone gone heavy on
- 19:33the documentaries lately, and so now they've got all these new ones. Yeah,
- 19:37it's pretty I mean, it's a pretty pretty brilliant business model that Netflix
- 19:41has done is like, hey, how can I keep you watching for five
- 19:42episodes or six episodes? Let's just do docu series. I saw the American
- 19:48Gladiator one like that is that is you that's a must watch, like you
- 19:53have if you remember, like I'm forty eight about to be forty eight,
- 19:57So if you remember that show when you were coming up, Absolutely I loved
- 20:03that show. And I don't even remember if I don't know if it was
- 20:07a North Texas thing, but it always came on like late at night.
- 20:10I don't really remember if it came on during the day anywhere. It was
- 20:12always on like eleven o'clock or something. It was. It was a reason
- 20:17for me to stay up late and just watch you know, Hawk and and
- 20:19and and Tase, your you know, Turbo whatever, just running around chasing
- 20:23uh, chasing scrawny people with tennis balls. Yes see now now I know,
- 20:30uh because I watched the documentary. I know which season you you when
- 20:36you said Hawk and all that like that, those were those were after season
- 20:40one? Season one was your Nitro, your Blaze, your Malibu Alibu.
- 20:48Yeah, now I remember Nitro. I remember Nitro, Yeah, he have
- 20:53to he Uh, he's the most successful of the I'm sorry, I just
- 20:57had to laugh when I said that, What's what's that hierarchy of success look
- 21:02like as far as the post American Gladiators because I mean, he didn't do
- 21:07porn so so, so he's the tasteful Gladiator. Also, if we ever
- 21:17start a band, we're gonna be called Tasteful Gladiator. I don't know what
- 21:22we'll sing, but that's an awesome band name. Oh it's gonna be all
- 21:25bad. It's tasteful Gladiators. Uh. Yeah, he's Nitro. And the
- 21:30Malibu was my It was hilarious because they just because because of how he looked,
- 21:37they just made him that. He's like, I have never been on
- 21:41a surfboard ever. He's like, I'm not that guy. Well he's like
- 21:45he's like apparently like very well read like he's but he's like, yeah,
- 21:49man, you know, I'm just me in a babe and some bruise,
- 21:52Like he's not that guy. But then like when the camera turns off,
- 21:55it's he immediately puts on the smoking jacket, grabs a huge novel, sits
- 21:59in front of the fire with a pipe. Yeah. They he's got a
- 22:03very famous clip and you can look it up and just type in Malibu,
- 22:07uh raise. I think if you in YouTube will pop it up. And
- 22:11so I was like, so Malib, like would you do this way?
- 22:14He's like, you know, it's just me and some babes and some raised
- 22:17and he was like, that's not me at all. Like he's like,
- 22:19I'm not that guy. I've never stepped on a surfboard ever, but he
- 22:25looks like he would be that guy. Um, and then Nitro has a
- 22:30very cool story. Uh, they kept bringing him back. So they kind
- 22:34of did this the friends thing. The first season. It was like Blaze
- 22:38and Nitro and Malibu and um. They had one guy who is I think
- 22:44was in everyone. He even says it. He's like, I wasn't every
- 22:47season and no one remembers me. He was. I think it was like
- 22:51Tower. I think was his name. Really yeah, I think I think
- 22:55that was his name. But he's like a really really tall but really big
- 22:57guy. And he's like I wasn't. Like and they show like all the
- 23:00seasons, like the posters, he's in all of them. It's just you
- 23:04never really and this didn't stick. He just looked like a big dude,
- 23:07Like okay, so that's a big guy all and muscular. Everybody else had
- 23:11like the mane of hair or just like was just jacked on roids or whatever
- 23:17it was. He was like, yeah, work up, I'm big.
- 23:19It was just kind of in the corner or whatever. But like they but
- 23:22they did the Friends thing where like the season one, like they were they
- 23:26were kind of promised. It's what Hollywood does. They were kind of promised
- 23:30all of like, hey, just joined this season. You know, if
- 23:33it gets picked up, we'll get all this money. And then there's endorsement
- 23:36deals. And I think season two they were doing and Trey apparently remembers this
- 23:41like a stadium tour, like an arena tour. They were a band really,
- 23:45so they were going like city to city. Well you're you're saying like
- 23:48like it was a concert, but it was more like like WWF at the
- 23:52time, going from city to city or you know, ice capades. No,
- 23:56it was all the I would pay solid money to see American Gladiators on
- 24:03ice. They had the same setup if like today the only think kind of
- 24:08the same is the American Ninja Warrior. But they took the Gladiators show on
- 24:15the road and like they sold out. I mean, this is how long
- 24:18ago it was. It was a reunion arena. Oh but that's so that's
- 24:22so interesting that you say that trade because they said I think at the end,
- 24:26like when they're putting the button on the documentary, they're like, if
- 24:30it wasn't for this show, American Ninja Warrior wouldn't exist. And when they
- 24:34said it, like I don't really want I think I've seen maybe a couple
- 24:37of episodes of American Ninja Warrior. I'm not a big I don't. I
- 24:41don't. Okay, you're not a big fan of watching people really strong workout.
- 24:45But after the first season, I was like, okay, so you
- 24:48can you can climb obstacle courses, Okay, don't there's no real life practice
- 24:52like the American Gladiator things was hilarious because they were if you watch the documentary,
- 24:56they're just trying to come up with games. As every they kept getting
- 25:00picked up and like what else can we do, like put I don't know,
- 25:03hit him with tennis balls. Let's see what we can do like they
- 25:07were that's that's basically like when you watch the show, that's how they were
- 25:11coming up with game ideas like okay, so what can we do to concuss
- 25:15people? Well, I mean if if like yeah, I mean shows like
- 25:18American Ninja Warrior Wipe Out. You know, those shows definitely are offshoots.
- 25:23They come from that American gladiator tree, sort of like they talk about NFL
- 25:27coaching trees. It's like, okay, you know Bill Belichick is from the
- 25:30Bill Parcels coaching tree and stuff. It's the same thing with these you know,
- 25:34outlandish shows all the way up to and including whatever. The I think
- 25:40it's just a put put show that comes on in the summer. I mean
- 25:42that technically is that's that's that's inspired by American gladiators. Yeah, and so
- 25:49so basically the arena thing that they tray. Did you go to them?
- 25:53No? I did. I didn't go to it. What are their their
- 25:56people? The guy was my orthopede surgeon. Uh. He was very he
- 26:03was well known and so stuff like that. People would go see him.
- 26:06And it just happened the day I was there, they had one of the
- 26:08people in the next room and I heard my doctor and this is really before
- 26:12hippo because he also just said the guy was just dumb as a box of
- 26:17rocks. But doctor was trying to explain to him that steroids impede the body
- 26:22from healing. He said, your shoulder is never going to heal as long
- 26:26as you keep doing steroids. And he said. The guy just could not
- 26:29understand it, just yeah, yeah, and so they were talking about this.
- 26:37So yeah, so it's this arena tour that they went on and it
- 26:41was sold out like every like globally, going to Japan, going to like
- 26:45Australia and everywhere sold out, and so it's basically like it is kind of
- 26:51capitish, if we can make that word stick. It's very where they were
- 26:56like and now introducing it was like the lineup would come out and they would
- 27:00just like give a quick little intro and like dip out, and then the
- 27:02next guy would come and then audience members like you could sign up to be
- 27:07in the events, and they were talking about when they would go backstage.
- 27:11Yeah, Pete from Saskatchewan, come on down. Yeah. It's it is
- 27:18like the prices, right, but like eighty mile an hour tennis ball at
- 27:21head yeah, or you're gonna you're just gonna get pulverized by by nitro.
- 27:26Yeah, And I didn't and they show a couple of those clips where they
- 27:30go, you know, we've sustained real injuries because they were literally coming up
- 27:33with the games as as each season progressed. So I had number those.
- 27:37Yeah, they had that one where like they basically stood on a tower and
- 27:41then another person I think just hurled their body at him trying to knock them
- 27:45off. Oh yeah, it was like a twenty foot drop or something.
- 27:48I mean it was God. What was that the gauntlet? Well, I
- 27:52thought the gauntlet was the end. Maybe, I know there was the jousting
- 27:57that was one. So the joust was one of my favorites because it's similar
- 28:00to I don't know, similar to nothing really, but the crowd would get
- 28:04into it based on what event was coming up next. And of course the
- 28:10crowds we all and the people watching, we had our favorites and some they
- 28:12were like right, okay, fine, whatever, but the joust was everyone
- 28:15was ever practically everybody's favorite because it was just taking two big sticks and smacking
- 28:21the crap out of each other. Yeah, and then like the human wrecking
- 28:23ball thing is what I could happen? Yeah, I think that was what
- 28:26they call it. Wrecking baller. Oh maybe I don't know. That's the
- 28:27only thing I could have quit it to. But they're like, I don't
- 28:30know. It sparked that memory in my head where they would have cut away
- 28:33to the gladiator like hey, you feel It was like, you know,
- 28:34I'm doing okay and they're like bleeding there through. I can taste sound.
- 28:45I mean, now that we're talking about it, then you know you really
- 28:49think about all the things that American Gladiators inspired. It had to also have
- 28:55been the inspiration for a squid Game, Yes, some of those things.
- 29:00I was watching this, you know, the Squid Game show. It's like,
- 29:03well, this looks like just stuff that they did on American Gladiators.
- 29:06But you know, real do you remember, like you they would cut away,
- 29:10They're like, hey, Nitrios, so how was that last one?
- 29:11Like his eyes dangling out? Like well, I think I think whould cut
- 29:15to commercial. But they had like paramedics on the side. And so when
- 29:18they by season two, had had done all of this, all these tourings,
- 29:22and they were talking about the trailers, talking about the steroids. They
- 29:26were talking about the cleaning cruise that would come into the arenas, like their
- 29:29dressing rooms and like just needles everywhere like they weren't. They weren't very shy
- 29:34about where they did there. I don't know how steroids work. I thought
- 29:38it was like, oh, let me do this in the bathroom of my
- 29:41house and then go to the gin. I don't know, there's a kid
- 29:45like how much time it needs to settle in before you work. I don't
- 29:48know how it works. I just imagine like it's the Incredible Hulk, Like
- 29:52you shoot it and then like your eyes turned green and now you're a giant.
- 29:56Like that's all I can think of. It's not exactly like that,
- 30:00But from what Trey was saying about steroids, that's the reason why I never
- 30:03went anywhere near steroids. Well, I mean, I mean it was near
- 30:06me plenty. You know, being in a gym or playing sports in high
- 30:08school, you knew it was there. Like guys in the locker room were
- 30:11not very shy about it. They'd be like, Oh, yeah, this
- 30:14is what I take, this is how much I take, this is when
- 30:15I do it, this is when I do that, blah blah blah.
- 30:18We had we had guys in high school that it was hilarious to me because
- 30:22just watching UH coaches that that knew what was going on? But we're trying
- 30:26to find a spin. Do you see what this workout program does for you?
- 30:30And I'm like, I'm I'm doing the same program. By the way,
- 30:33and my buddy over here, uh he grew a hat size. I'm
- 30:37just saying, his head got thicker. I'm just saying, I don't think
- 30:44it has anything to do with two days. Yeah, I don't. I
- 30:47don't think it's your I don't think it's your genius lifting program they're coaching.
- 30:49Yeah, but then, uh, I am so all those campaigns back in
- 30:55the day like that. Just say no, all that stuff worked on me.
- 31:00And I heard steroids like it gives you, like it can stop your
- 31:03heart in bad act like acne, like the small things and like snop your
- 31:07heart and then can cause cancer. And I'm like, am I don't need
- 31:08to be big and I'm Indian. What am I gonna do? The most
- 31:14jack doctor you've ever seen? Like just a just a swoll it? Have
- 31:19you turned it on and turned it off and then back on again? No,
- 31:22Actually that might have been you might have ignored your your chance at the
- 31:26big break in Hollywood rags because I had you done that, you would have
- 31:29been the star of Swollen m D. We're writing that. I'm happy to
- 31:41help. I'm happy to let let's let's let's collaborate on Swollen d Fresh.
- 31:45I just want to see your business card that says consultant Swoll m D.
- 31:51Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, executive producer.
- 31:56I'm if I'm gonna, If I'm gonna have my fingers in something that
- 31:59stupid, I gotta be near the top of it. You don't want to
- 32:02be the grip. Well, now I do. What are you working on
- 32:15these days? You know they just picked up season two of Swollen Deep.
- 32:20You'll never hear that in Hollywood, or maybe you say they do not.
- 32:24Do not underestimate Hollywood. You've been in Hollywood enough to know things. The
- 32:29only thing stupider than this show is just probably Hollywood or swollen We have to
- 32:37make this show now, let me come on. They already have to addicted
- 32:42doctors. It's like Grayson out of me. But instead of screwing their juicing,
- 32:52the entire than just takes place in a gym full of doctor. Nobody
- 32:55gets hurt. They don't. They don't do surgery. It's all about the
- 33:00games. All the patients die. I had other things planning for this second,
- 33:08but I can't seem to find idio them at the moment, So I'm
- 33:13just gonna call ithuse online that treehouse on air dot com writing of the uh

- 33:46dot com. Daniel, I know we've talked a lot about how you work
- 33:49with homeowners and their insurance companies when it comes to claims. Does it always
- 33:52work out exactly the way the homeowner wants or is there some having to limit
- 33:58expectations. Yeah, Dan, that's a great question. So when we go
- 34:00out and we meet homeowners, a lot of the times, the first thing
- 34:02out of the homeowner's mouth is I need an estimate, and it's up to
- 34:07the contractor to there agree to that estimate that the insurance presents are to contact
- 34:12the insurance company and modify the estimate that's needed to properly put the house back
- 34:16together to a pre storm loss condition, and a few contractors are able to
- 34:22handle that. Because we have the same kind of software, the estimating procedures,
- 34:27everything is identical to the insurance company. And I think a lot of
- 34:30times homeowners may go down the wrong path because they have a contractor come up
- 34:34and say, yeah, I can do your roof for fifteen thousand dollars and
- 34:37the insurance companies wrote it up for twenty one thousand, and the homeowner thinks
- 34:39are going to pocket that six thousand, and it's not going to happen.
- 34:43Insurance is going to ask for an invoice or an estimate back, and if
- 34:46it comes in less, the insurance is going to cut your estimate down to
- 34:49fifteen thousand. So a lot of homeowners don't know that, and that's going
- 34:52to be something that unfortunately, you're not going to get the right kind of
- 34:54roof either because there's no contractor out there's going to take a loss on building
- 34:59your roof back. Yeah, this just doesn't happen. So you gotta be
- 35:01careful, make sure you ask the right questions. We are always there for
- 35:06you, second opinions, third opinions, whatever you need, we're going to

- 36:08your address? I can look it up because I have my database in my

- 36:42I was like, oh, what can I do for you? And he
- 36:44goes, can you call my wife Tracy? And I said yeah, I
- 36:46can remind me what your address is, and so he told me and I
- 36:51said I will call her right now, and she picked up the phone and
- 36:53I said, hey, it's Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing and she goes, okay,
- 36:58it's like ten o'clock at night. And I said, uh, you
- 37:00just called me. He's in jail and he needs you to call him.
- 37:04He couldn't remember your number and he said. She goes okay, which jail?
- 37:08And I was able to tell her and she goes, okay, I'll
- 37:10go get him. I don't know if we can say that then I wouldn't
- 37:13use his name. But I think it's I think it's so funny. No,
- 37:16it's hysterical and we're using all of that. I recommend calling you Jacqueline

- 38:17at Brooks Plumbing. All right, Roger, I think I found the clip
- 38:22you were talking about with uh with Malibu from American Gladiators. Oh yeah,
- 38:29just watching this clip just brings back so many fond, just brutal memories as
- 38:36a child watching this show. I think, I think if this is the
- 38:39right one. There was that human wrecking ball thing. I think he gets
- 38:44like I don't think he gets pummeled, but I think he cuts his eye
- 38:50or like he gets a gash to his head or something like that. Okay,
- 38:52or he was like really badly injured. And this was there, like,
- 38:55Hey, let's check in on ou Malibu is doing. That's exactly what
- 38:59the the beginning stages of CTE. Let's check Yeah, this is from Universal
- 39:06Studios Hollywood, Malibu on American Gladiators. Welcome back to Universal Studios Hollywood and
- 39:13the American Gladiators. Now, last time we saw our gladiator Malibu, he
- 39:17was flying through the air from a tremendous kick delivered by Brian Hudson, and
- 39:23the last time he landed, we weren't sure where he wound up. Hey,
- 39:29Malibu, after you got drilled by that human cannonball, I thought,
- 39:31Hey, there is no way this guy is going to live to play another
- 39:35day. You're alive, You're well, what happened? Did you go to
- 39:37the hospital, did you get X rays? Well, dude, it's like
- 39:40this. I saw this guy coming and I took the most excellent hit of
- 39:45my life. Next thing, I knew. I was on the beach,
- 39:51taking in some cosmic rays, getting healed by mother Nature, taking a little
- 39:55BRUISKI, holding on a beautiful babe, and I'm fine today. So no
- 40:00hospital, no doctors, just mother nature. Huh oh, I'm a child
- 40:04of Mother Nature. Set Malibu. You are truly amazing. He took a
- 40:07licking and he is still ticking? Is he me? Sweet? He doesn't
- 40:15know what to say. He's like, I gotta play this character and he's
- 40:21not this dude, but he's like literally still concussed. I believe when they're
- 40:25uh yeah, he took If you watch the CLIs he takes guy. I
- 40:29think the guy kicks him in the head. Uh yeah. And then they
- 40:32did this and I forgot to mention this, but it was like, um,
- 40:37I don't know which city, maybe Florida, maybe Branson, I'm not
- 40:40sure, but they did the last kind of thing that they did to hold
- 40:45onto the popularity was they did, uh, Okay, you've been in medieval
- 40:51times. I've not, but I have not, but I know I know
- 40:54pretty much all about it. Okay, so you go in, you eat,
- 40:58and you watch the the people. That's what they did. And I
- 41:01think it was Florida or Branson. But they had the American Gladiator Dinner Theater.
- 41:07What Yeah, the American Gladiator Dinner Theater. Yes, Oh Jesus,
- 41:13you have to watch it. I'm telling you, this is the greatest documentary.
- 41:15But at the end they're like they had a dinner theater and uh,
- 41:20like, oh, it's just the saddest because at the end of like the
- 41:22clip of guys like, don't forget to check out the gladiator buffet, Like
- 41:28what is it? Is it all just steroids windstraw? But it's like that
- 41:37was the name of the buffet in the hotel, and they the gladiators had
- 41:42to like you can meet them because that's where they had to eat. Is
- 41:45it just like a Is it just like a like a testosterone fountain? There's
- 41:52dessert? Yeah, that's ah, I'll never be able I'll never or see
- 42:00it the chocolate fountain ever again and think the same thing. But no,
- 42:04well that's because because now you have the gladiator corraled in your mind. Yeah,
- 42:10they did the that was the last thing and they said that you know,
- 42:15it was packed audiences. I guess I don't know what the overhead was,
- 42:19but the gladiators showed up one day perform with the dinner theater and the
- 42:23chains on the doors, and that's where I'm like, I think we're out
- 42:27of work. That's probably a pretty good indicator that the ride is over.
- 42:32Yeah, but how many seasons? If you had to guess how many seasons
- 42:36do you think it was on the air, I would go four? Okay,
- 42:40try uh, I have five, five or six? I guess I
- 42:45think it was a closer than nine. I don't remember that, I think
- 42:51so if I remember, because it was the first and second season, then
- 42:53they had the whole uh world. They did like the like Friends before Friends
- 42:58are like, we are the so the all the gladiators like, we're going
- 43:01to ask for more money, and then they basically looked at him and went,
- 43:04cool, we'll go to a gym and find a replacement. Yeah,
- 43:08it's not like this is, you know, next level you know acting here.
- 43:13All they needed was just some some people that are just really muscle e
- 43:16and to run in and runningto walls and people and things. If you looked
- 43:21at the cast of Friends when they did that whole thing, I think it
- 43:22was after season two as well, when they're like we're gonna we're the show
- 43:28there's nobody replacing any of those people. Right. Maybe at the time there
- 43:31wasn't. We wouldn't have noticed as but that was the show. The American
- 43:36Gladiators. Like you were like, hey man, I remember would you say?
- 43:38You're like I remember Hawk? And I was like, in my head
- 43:42of one season four, well that and not only that, but you know,
- 43:46the names were pretty straightforward. So if the if they had to do
- 43:51a huge cast turnover, so well, okay, well Hawk is pretty easy
- 43:54to replace. You just find another huge muscle guy and just call him Block.
- 43:59Yeah, so so you you had Laser becomes Taser, Blaze became Saber.
- 44:06That's who. That's what it was. So when they when they got
- 44:08after season two, they're like, okay, we'll just replace everybody. So
- 44:12they just I don't know why. I don't know who owned the names.
- 44:15I don't know why you can just give those people the same names. But
- 44:19you do have to again, you have to watch because when they replace people,
- 44:23they're like, oh, yeah, that makes sense. I thought it
- 44:27was, and this is why it made kind of blew my mind. I
- 44:30thought it was a competition that if you won at the end, you became
- 44:35an American Gladiator. Because I think the season one, the guy who took
- 44:39the whole thing. The next year came back and he was it was I
- 44:45can't remember his name, but he was on for I think two or three
- 44:49seasons as well. He came back and became one of the Gladiators. That's
- 44:52what I thought the show was. So every time they came back a new
- 44:55season, like and we have all these new Gladiators, I was like,
- 44:58oh, those are the people that want no, it has nothing to do
- 45:00with any of them. They were just like, hey, we want to
- 45:02pay these people eleven dollars. What can we do? Sounds like sounds like
- 45:10radio companies? Yea, yeah, yeah. I remember them using that as
- 45:16a selling point of you know, wait till you see who the next year.
- 45:21You know, this year's Gladiators they're going to be. It was like
- 45:22they're you know, tease of it. Yeah see I And that makes sense
- 45:28now when I'm watching them, like, oh, that's when we're kids.
- 45:31We don't know about contract disputes and money, and you just think these are
- 45:35guys that like really enjoy hurting, Like the one do you remember that I
- 45:39don't remember what it's called, but you have the basketball and you put it
- 45:43in the thing like the little round. It looked like the wabble wobble that
- 45:46that's basketball rush yeah but not okay, but imagine basketball, but like in
- 45:52the gym and you have their needle. Oh it was it was, yeah,
- 45:57it was. It was like American Gladiator basketball and and it was it
- 46:00was like the it was like dodgeball, but it was like it had the
- 46:04cylindrical like container things. Honestly, Honestly, if you think about it,
- 46:07American Gladiators basketball was really reminiscent of basketball for at the time because you really
- 46:13couldn't differentiate a whole lot between Bill lamb Beer's Pistons and the American Gladiators.
- 46:19Go back and watch the series, go back and watch the Eastern Conference finals
- 46:22of like nineteen ninety or whatever it is, between the Pistons and the Bulls,
- 46:25and they just beat the crap out of Michael Jordan for for the whole
- 46:29series. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Bad boys. Yeah. But
- 46:34they were like like literally the motivation then became like the pep talk in the
- 46:39in the locker room or nine locker room dressing room, was like, hey,
- 46:43at least we get to hurt people. Well, they had one game
- 46:47that was like charts with you know, throwing charts at people. Oh,
- 46:53you're right, it was like it was it was it was like jackline trust
- 46:59darts, right, yeah, it was it was yard darts. So yeah,
- 47:04yeah, see. But here's the like, here's here's how my brain
- 47:08works, right, Like I have friends that are professional wrestlers, so I
- 47:13don't understand like that when like what that meetings like like all right, hey
- 47:15man, so here's what Bill, So would you think about? Like two
- 47:19minutes in I hitched in the head with an iron, I'm like, all
- 47:21right, that sounds good. I'm gonna use this fork and stabby in the
- 47:23eye. You're awesome. The same thing like when I saw the American Gladier's
- 47:28documentary, like so what kind of what kind of events can we have?
- 47:30And they nobody came to the table. That's the thing. Nobody came to
- 47:35the table with anything safe. Nobody went hey, let's let's let's have them
- 47:39spell Everybody's like, okay, wow, you're not gonna no. Of course,
- 47:44the show was very self aware, like you're not going to have a
- 47:47spelling be competition in the middle of those you know of joust and human wrecking
- 47:52ball You're not going to have have them sit down and play chess. That's
- 47:55boring. You want to see people get their ass kicked. And that was
- 48:00Alabum might have won. That was sports though at that time. I mean
- 48:06bodies were disposable. Yeah, yeah, were disposable. Concussions no one even
- 48:12knew what that word was, Like concussions, Well, you knew. You
- 48:15got your bell rung air quotes and then they gave you some smelling small salts
- 48:19and sent you back in. Yeah. So they were like there was one
- 48:22that I remember going as a kid, going that can't be saved. Do
- 48:27you remember that King of the Hill thing contraption that they had where it was
- 48:30like you had there, it was everybody. It was a free for all.
- 48:32Oh, everybody who was trying to get to the top of this Like
- 48:36it looked like Jim like those little red mats, but they were like inflated.
- 48:40Yeah, there were stuffed and everybody there was. No it's not like
- 48:45they had repelling rows. If you threw somebody off that, they're just flying
- 48:50off that. Yeah. No, you're right. It's like at a certain
- 48:52point they just they just kind of gave up on the creativity of the games.
- 48:55And then at some point they're basically you know, just like all right
- 48:59now, but time for who can take the most shots to them those before
- 49:10passing out? You you advanced to the gauntlet. The only people making money
- 49:20on that show is like TiSER Permanente. That's like Blue Cross, Blue Shield
- 49:24made a fortune of that show. Definitely, But yeah, they would,
- 49:28they should. They showed them. They were interviewing one of the executive producers
- 49:30that like how they came up with the games. They're like, okay,
- 49:35how about we hit them with you know, they run and they hide,
- 49:37and then we just kind of hit them with tennis balls like oh okay,
- 49:40and then that would kind of go okay, but what if what if it
- 49:45was tennis balls? I like your idea, Sarah, But but what if
- 49:49we put them in a like in a CEO two container and like launch it
- 49:53at him? Yeah yeah, but what's the speed of that? We're not
- 49:55sure? Yeah, so the idea is to this balls but five hundred feet
- 50:00per second. Also there also their nails and glass inside the tennis balls.
- 50:10Yeah, so basically what you just did there was what their chow prop was
- 50:15like. So they were like, hey, so what can we do this?
- 50:17Season, and it was like somebody was like, hey, how about
- 50:20we launch like dodgeball. We'll just hit them with tennis balls, and they
- 50:23went, wow, that's not exciting. But if we make it like this
- 50:28new age because all the all the eighties and eighties and nineties action movies were
- 50:30coming out, so like the bigger, the cooler looking the thing was.
- 50:35And they made it round with all the tennis balls so you could see them
- 50:37when they get launched out that that they're actually using those tennis balls in the
- 50:42container, and like, how can we launch this at people to injure them?
- 50:47Like, oh, okay, perfect, let's just put this and again
- 50:50it is something like five hundred six hundred feet per second is what this is
- 50:55launching at. And we just got it. Yeah. I don't even know
- 51:00when they started, if they were I remember at one point there there was
- 51:02they made a deal about the fact that they everyone was wearing protective eyewear.
- 51:08Yes, I don't even know when they started, if they were making them
- 51:12wear goggles. I think it was after Malbow. I think it's when Malibu
- 51:16got kicked in the eye. They're like, hey, we might want to
- 51:21have some safety safety first. It's all funning games until someone loses an eye.
