- 0:00I wish.
- 0:00I just told you before, my life would have been so much easier if I had played football forever.
- 0:05We were just talking though, so let's get started about how you performed in the game for Hope last week.
- 0:14I can't hear what you're saying.
- 0:15Don't need to know how enjoyable.
- 0:16How did you perform?
- 0:17Dreadful.
- 0:19I'm not a footballer.
- 0:19Oh, come on.
- 0:20Don't be harsh at yourself, Tony.
- 0:22You've told me that you're Bob Latchford.
- 0:25You're Duncan Ferguson.
- 0:26You play up front.
- 0:27We've talked about it before.
- 0:28How did it go?
- 0:30I don't want to know.
- 0:31I don't want to talk about the game.
- 0:32But I don't know anything you just said there for the last 10 seconds, so...
- 0:37I did see a clip of you having a shot from about 25 yards.
- 0:40It's absolutely disgusting.
- 0:41There ain't some poor kid that was sat near the corner flag.
- 0:44It's very sad.
- 0:45Very, very sad.
- 0:46And it wasn't 25 yards, it was a ball whipped across the speed of light by Baz.
- 0:53yeah it was going too fast he's got to understand what you're playing with know the calibre of people you're playing with you're not playing with seasoned professionals you're playing with a fat fella from Wavertree who was a good boxer yeah
- 1:09That's no excuse for the shot though, is it?
- 1:12No, it wasn't a shot.
- 1:13I tried to redirect it into the corner and I didn't let my body open up fully and I paid the price and so did the kid.
- 1:22Well, that's actually not the one I was talking about.
- 1:24I saw another one where you had a shot from 25 yards and... Ah, let's not talk about that.
- 1:29It nearly went over the back end stand.
- 1:31Do you know what the frightening part was, Leon?
- 1:33You'd done that on a regular basis and you were actually a professional footballer.
- 1:42Yeah, well played.
- 1:43Yeah, well I'd rather not have the abuse now, you'd have to get some back.
- 1:47Leave me alone.
- 1:49It looked like it went well though, it looked like a good day.
- 1:51It was a good day.
- 1:53My highlights of the day was the first five minutes, I get hold of the ball in the middle of the park.
- 1:58I go past one man and I slot Tony dug in through right through the lines and I put it in and she misses it.
- 2:04So I don't get it and then, oh no, sorry, there was another good point.
- 2:07I put a cross kind of shot and I'm going to claim it was a cross and Tim Cale gets it and he misses an open goal.
- 2:14See, that's the way it works for a midfielder at times.
- 2:17Bruno Fernandes puts things on plates, he gets 20 assists.
- 2:20I put things through for people all the time.
- 2:23They missed, so that's not my fault.
- 2:25I should have had well more assists.
- 2:26You should have been playing.
- 2:27That's what you should have been.
- 2:29I'm only wrestling.
- 2:30I couldn't.
- 2:30I was obviously away with my family.
- 2:33Couldn't rearrange anything.
- 2:35Was upset that I missed it.
- 2:37Did look like a lot of fun.
- 2:41Yeah, I'm playing at Goodison again.
- 2:43Yes Because you You claimed Was it on the last pod That you're the last person To score at Goodison Park Or definitely a free kick Last male To score a free kick At Goodison Park Was definitely me So there was no free kicks There was no free kicks In that game No free kicks in that game Oh your record Still stands No one scored a free kick No one scored From a free kick directly I mean what I'd done that That day was never Going to be replicated It's never going to be done again I should be put on the walls Of Goodison Park Yes
- 3:12Yeah, not even Baines, you could do that.
- 3:16Well, it was a long international break, wasn't it?
- 3:19That was the only game that I probably enjoyed.
- 3:22Did you watch any international footy or did you just leave it?
- 3:26Bits.
- 3:28I've got to be honest, obviously I need to try and keep track of England and follow England.
- 3:34I tried to, but obviously on this occasion, as I told you, I went away with me dad and my family just to,
- 3:41for personal reasons, went away.
- 3:43So didn't quite follow the international breakers probably as much as they usually would.
- 3:49But England's results and seeing the goals and seeing performances.
- 3:54I mean, Kane scoring goals.
- 3:57Jude Bellingham, I mean, he's something else.
- 4:00I know you love him, Tony, and he's starting to prove... Anthony Gordon kicked on again.
- 4:05I mean, he probably took a bit of stick from leaving...
- 4:10Newcastle maybe going to Barcelona and people talking about is he the player of Barcelona and he's gone there and he's he's actually talked himself up hasn't he got a bit of sort of public attention from how he from how he was talking about himself whether that's we talk about the modern generation of players he's got a good few assists no goals for Barca but he's had a really good international break I think he's kicked on I think he I'm starting to believe his own hype I'm starting to believe from those kind of performances so
- 4:40Well done.
- 4:41Didn't see, as I've told you before, didn't see the kid I saw train at 14, the kid I was coaching at that level.
- 4:52Didn't see him doing this.
- 4:53Didn't see the developments, and I'm absolutely delighted for him.
- 4:57And also, if you come out and make statements like he has done, you've got to back it up.
- 5:00And he has done.
- 5:01So fair play to him.
- 5:04Yeah, I agree.
- 5:06The lot's doing great.
- 5:07Fair play to him.
- 5:10Yeah, Barcelona obviously saw something in him because they basically had the trace over signing Rashford properly or going in for him and they've made that decision.
- 5:19So maybe they saw something that maybe we didn't see.
- 5:23Yeah, I just think it's purely down to a work-free thing.
- 5:26I think in the final third of the pitch, I think they both produced the same amount.
- 5:31But I think his work rate going backwards and being aggressive on the front foot with the press, I think that's probably what gets him slightly ahead of Rashford.
- 5:40I'm just speaking out loud from, like I said, a bit of a fan's perspective, and I don't really understand Oz.
- 5:46He will know the proper technicalities of the game and what it is, but I would say that's the only real difference between Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford because I think at the top end of the pitch,
- 5:57they're very similar in what he can score and their creation and stuff like that.
- 6:05You're making a really good point, actually, when you say that.
- 6:10He is busy.
- 6:11He runs around at a fast pace.
- 6:13He works really hard, as you also just mentioned, in and out of possession.
- 6:18And when you look at Rashford, he gives you moments of brilliance, but he kind of just waits for the ball, doesn't he?
- 6:24And he's...
- 6:25He's a little bit more...
- 6:26He drifts out of games, Oz.
- 6:28Yeah, he drifts.
- 6:29Whereas Gordon, actually, if he's not playing well, charges people down, closes people down, gets back, works hard.
- 6:35He'll give you a more rounded performance, Anthony Gordon.
- 6:39And do you know what?
- 6:40That's what I'd prefer in my team.
- 6:42And if you're going to go out and spend the amount of money they did, yeah, I think you want to spend it on an Anthony Gordon.
- 6:49Especially if you've done your research and you know he's going to get the assists and he's going to...
- 6:53get the goals and he's going to perform and get you the game altering incidents.
- 7:00He's going to be a part of those big moments and he's going to give you the work rate off the ball.
- 7:05So yeah, I think what you just said is spot on.
- 7:10If you're looking at statistics, I think you're going to take Anthony Gordon over Marcus Rashford.
- 7:16If you're looking at what the eye sees and what someone's capable of,
- 7:23Excuse me, I think you might be... God bless you.
- 7:25Thank you, so apologies.
- 7:28I think you might be more, if you're just going on what the eye can see, I think you might be more prone to Marcus Rashford.
- 7:34But as I say, when you're looking at statistics and data and things like, what is, those numbers are going backwards as well as going forwards, I think Anthony Gordon's always going to be his choice.
- 7:43And I think that's what, I think that's basically how Thomas Tuchel picks his team.
- 7:47Because when you have decisions made, like putting Madiweke out on the right, and I was thinking, why are you playing Madiweke out in the World Cup?
- 7:55And it was quite clear to see, your eyes didn't lie to you, Madweke does more miles, Madweke does more numbers, running up and down the line.
- 8:01He will probably create you more chances than Saka was.
- 8:05But then in them moments of brilliance, in them important moments of the game, Saka is the kind of one who delivers more than Madweke, in them vital and important moments.
- 8:16Like I said, this game is just now so statistically during, it sends me insane at times.
- 8:22But...
- 8:23The more I watch it and the more I look at the statistics, the more I get it.
- 8:28Fair.
- 8:29Well, probably the biggest story of the international break wasn't the international football.
- 8:33It was the Man City charges.
- 8:35Tony, I've been waiting to hear your say on this.
- 8:39Where do we start with this?
- 8:41Do you know what?
- 8:41I'm just going to give you quite brutal and honest.
- 8:44And people don't really like me saying this, but everyone's had it.
- 8:47All right, everyone's at it.
- 8:49They're all at it.
- 8:50I mean, I've just been having an argument this morning once again in my stupid group about, you know, they're saying Pep's thing he always tainted.
- 8:56Now, no, it's not.
- 8:57No, it's not at all.
- 8:58What Pep Guardiola's done is changed football all over the world.
- 9:01Everybody is now playing out from the back.
- 9:03He's literally...
- 9:04He is the biggest influence on football in my lifetime, Pep Guardiola.
- 9:08He's changed the game.
- 9:09I mean, I'm turning up at Academy watching my kid play and they're all trying to do what he's doing.
- 9:14It's just absolutely ridiculous, the levels that he's changed it to.
- 9:19Now, to get onto these charges and stuff like that, my genuine belief is everyone's at it.
- 9:23Do I think they should be punished?
- 9:25Absolutely.
- 9:26Absolutely they should be punished.
- 9:30If you're asking me what do I think's a fair punishment, I would say 10 points off for every season, for 10 seasons, for the next 10 seasons, 10 points off at the start of the season, and I would go...
- 9:42not just what he did to heaven, only what he did to us, so I think that 10 points off for 10 seasons, and I would give, I think you get 100 million for the Premier League, at the start of every season, all the clubs get 100 million each, all of the clubs they've affected, I would give 100 million, and the clubs like Everton who you've stopped getting into Europe, I think should get an extra 20 to 30 million each season you've affected that team.
- 10:06So when they go back and work out exactly the team team effect, I think Everton affected five times, stopping getting into Europe three or four times, or four or five times, whatever it is,
- 10:16I think Everton should probably end up getting about £200 million.
- 10:19Tottenham should probably end up getting about £180 million.
- 10:22Liverpool probably £180 million.
- 10:24So whoever they've affected directly with their positions and placements, I think should be getting paid.
- 10:31And that's where I think it should be.
- 10:32So I think they should have to pay out probably about £2 billion or £2.34 billion.
- 10:38And they should get 10 points deducted at the start of every season for the next 10 seasons.
- 10:43And I think that's very fair.
- 10:44LAUGHTER
- 10:45I'd love to see you in that courtroom, Tony.
- 10:47No, no, but by the way, that's if they don't prove that Abu Dhabi has basically not funded them.
- 10:55If Abu Dhabi's funded them, then they've had the right to go and buy whoever they want fair play to them.
- 10:59They shouldn't be punished at all.
- 11:00So if these are proven correct, they shouldn't be punished.
- 11:05And I think it's an absolute disgrace that the likes of Chelsea were allowed to do this.
- 11:12for how many years and then all of a sudden you just go right we're putting rules in place now because of what happened in the lower leagues to the likes of Bury and I get it it's truly frightening what happens to the likes of Bury but I just think any football club owner should be allowed to
- 11:28Spend whatever they want.
- 11:29And okay, if it's not, if it doesn't work and it's not sustainable, then each owner of a football club should give a guarantee.
- 11:37And the guarantee is that whatever we've spent or whatever we've done, we will never let this football club go out of business.
- 11:42And we will put this much in when we are leaving if it goes wrong.
- 11:47And every owner who's
- 11:49or every business, or every franchise, that signs up to this kind of thing, should be made, to have that put in place, but I think they all, should be allowed to spend, what they want, we're the richest, and the best league in the world, let the people, who are coming in, spend money, let Newcastle spend the money, let them, let Everton spend, some more money, why are we all, messing around, with these financial restrictions, why have you put these in place, because not everybody needs them, I get Betty, what happened to Betty, to Traversley, and it's wrong, but,
- 12:17Let me tell you, that can't happen to Newcastle with the wealth they've got.
- 12:20That can't happen to City with the wealth they've got.
- 12:23And I just find it wrong that they're punishing people and doing this in the first place.
- 12:27So there's my 10 pence worth.
- 12:29Aussie will have a far better view than I have.
- 12:31No, I enjoyed listening to what you're saying because it's a balancing act, isn't it, in terms of...
- 12:40making sure that, because that's what the rules are for, as you just said, to make sure that clubs, towns, people's local love, you know, everyone's got their local team that they love, to make sure that they're all looked after.
- 12:54And I sort of lean towards you, it's,
- 12:58we're stopping, what the Reels currently do is allow the biggest teams to stay the biggest teams.
- 13:07Man United have like a massive revenue and they can spend 500 million a year on players and Everton can only spend X amount of money because it's all about your turnover and your revenue and the Reels are in place.
- 13:19and they are what they are.
- 13:20So maybe as you've just talked, Tony, that everyone, that every owner, especially Premier League, I don't know how far you'd go down, you'd go, but to make sure that you can spend what you want, but to guarantee the club, maybe you put, I don't know, especially with the size of
- 13:37spend owners are making to purchase clubs these days.
- 13:40Maybe you put 250 million in a pot over there out the way in escrow, you know, like you just pop it over there, 250 million.
- 13:49Now, if I mess the club up and if I leave unexpectedly, I lose that 250 million and that is then spent on the club.
- 13:56I don't know, but that will then sort of guarantee that the club will be okay moving forward.
- 14:03But...
- 14:04it'll allow the clubs to spend, as you said, because was there anything wrong?
- 14:11Or did it ruin the league when Walker of Blackburn went and spent all that money on Blackburn?
- 14:19It actually made the league really good because suddenly Blackburn could go and compete for the title.
- 14:23They won it off Man United and blah, blah, blah.
- 14:25Chelsea, we all know, bought success in that period of time.
- 14:31And actually they did it, turns out, a little bit illegally as well.
- 14:34but they've had long-term success and the revenue they got from doing it has worked out to help them.
- 14:42Because they've been spending a lot of money.
- 14:45Yeah, Leeds did it.
- 14:46Leeds are probably the show that it's not always successful in terms of they chucked loads of money at it.
- 14:54Champions League, semifinals, thought they were going to be in the Champions League every season, overspent to that point.
- 15:02and fell foul of it, got punished, but they didn't go out of business.
- 15:05They struggled for a long time because they got it wrong, but they didn't go out of business.
- 15:08So now look at them, it's obviously took over 20 years for them to get back.
- 15:12But they gambled and lost.
- 15:15But the club have stayed there.
- 15:18So as you say, there has to be something that helps these other clubs, your Newcastles, your Villas, your Uzz, your...
- 15:26maybe less so Spurs in the way to do it, get to the point where we can actually have a go of competing at the top.
- 15:33Because at the minute, it's only ever going to be the same teams that are able to sort of do it.
- 15:37So, yeah, I understand the way you're coming about it, Tony.
- 15:43But talking about Man City, if...
- 15:47and as you know, it's been proven at the moment, but there is an appeal and it may change.
- 15:52If the rules were in place and everyone agreed on the rules and they've circumvented them in the way that they have, then there's going to be punishments.
- 15:59There's got to be punishments.
- 16:00There's got to be what there is.
- 16:03And you mentioned about 10 points a year.
- 16:04I think,
- 16:06I sort of agree with that.
- 16:07I don't know the extent, I don't know how you're doing it, I don't know what the Premier League are going to do, but what I would say is I don't think there can be a one issue now whether you put loads of points on them now or you relegate them to where you relegate.
- 16:21I don't even know because it's so messy, the whole situation.
- 16:25I don't even know what you sort of do, but I think that the feeling around everywhere is that it has to be a sort of longer-term punishment to then
- 16:35just take points off them this season so they can't do stuff, but next season they'd come back.
- 16:39And the issue with that is it would hurt them in a way that would these players hang around?
- 16:45I mean, that's the concern for City.
- 16:46They've built themselves up to a point where all the best players want to play for them.
- 16:50And now,
- 16:52You think all the best players might scramble.
- 16:53What's Eliminadie thinking now?
- 16:55Just gone from Everton to Man City.
- 16:57He thinks he's got his dream move to get him to the top, where he's going to compete for titles, compete for the champion, play in the Champions League every year, compete there, play with the best players.
- 17:07And he's just walked into this absolute nightmare of a situation.
- 17:12I can't even imagine what he's thinking now.
- 17:15I can't even imagine.
- 17:17Do you know what I look at it?
- 17:18That big part that everyone's missing.
- 17:20The Premier League are called well.
- 17:23How did the Premier League let this go on for 10 years?
- 17:25Everybody is.
- 17:27It's the craziest thing.
- 17:28Football is probably one of the most transparent sports in the world.
- 17:32We have a transfer deadline.
- 17:33Everybody knows who's coming.
- 17:35Everybody knows who's going out of every single football club.
- 17:38Why did it take for this?
- 17:40After a year or two, someone's gone, you know what, guys?
- 17:44They've spent about $150 million and they've brought in about $10 million.
- 17:48How has someone not gone, what's going on here?
- 17:50Like, this financially, it's not adding up, it's not making sense.
- 17:54Well, sorry, go on.
- 17:56Why hasn't someone, after the first year, two years, three years, it's got to 10 years, I understand this has been going on for a couple of years now, so I understand that's got to 10, but ultimately, as soon as they've seen this creeping up, why has someone just gone, let's touch up on this right now, and just go, oi, stop it, you've been nicked, there you go, we know you's a bang at it.
- 18:15And like I said before, ah, ah,
- 18:17Call me superstitious or whatever.
- 18:18They're all Harry.
- 18:19Everyone's Harry.
- 18:20It's no coincidence how Isaac was going on strike, leaving Newcastle.
- 18:24He'd been spoken to way before that.
- 18:25They're all Harry.
- 18:26Everyone's Harry.
- 18:27Everton's Harry.
- 18:28Liverpool's Harry.
- 18:29All these clubs are Harry.
- 18:30It's just that, guess what?
- 18:31City have took the piss.
- 18:33City have gone too far.
- 18:34City have just gone, you know what?
- 18:35We do it right in front of you and we don't care.
- 18:37As Chelsea did, but Chelsea held the hands up.
- 18:39When the new owner's come into Chelsea, they went, listen, he's been bang at it for how many years.
- 18:43We're going to pay for the, you know, for what he's done.
- 18:46I just but for me the Premier League had to have been more quicker in the response more responsive see the thing about it is City have not helped in any way see like Everton and you just said Chelsea but just talk about Everton
- 19:05As we usually do, we went, oh, yeah, we did.
- 19:08We didn't quite meet the standards this year.
- 19:10And yeah, we did.
- 19:11And everything we got accused of, we basically went, yeah, we did.
- 19:15There you go.
- 19:16There's your punishment straight away.
- 19:18City have not helped.
- 19:19That's part of the charges, not actually helping, denying, avoiding, making it difficult.
- 19:25And that makes it more difficult for the Premier League.
- 19:28So now it's not a straightforward bang, man, as you can.
- 19:31I get that, Oz.
- 19:32I get that, right.
- 19:32City have made it as horrible and awkward for the Premier League as is possible.
- 19:38So...
- 19:39Premier League are sort of their hands are tied they've done everything they can they're trying to make sure it's a legitimate competition I was wondering when you say we held our hands up and it's not easy to do but they've seen that so you know when they come to everyone going right you've done this this and this and we've gone yeah we held our hands up we did I'm sure they went to City as well
- 19:58I'm sure they went to City and went, listen, yous have done this, this and this, and they've gone, no, we haven't.
- 20:01And they've got to go straight away, they've got to go, well, yeah, you have.
- 20:04You can't let it carry on for 10 years.
- 20:06You can't let it drag on.
- 20:07Because you didn't with heaven.
- 20:08It's like a murder case.
- 20:12I know I've gone completely dramatic.
- 20:14Jesus Christ, there we go.
- 20:15Sherlock Holmes is going to be talking about next.
- 20:16It doesn't have to be murder, but it could be a different case.
- 20:18If you go to court over something and you plead guilty, your course will sail through.
- 20:24I'm all.
- 20:24Sorry, your situation will sail through.
- 20:26If you say not guilty and you debate it, it's going to last, it could be a good few weeks trial because you're debating it.
- 20:31But if you get to say guilty, you take your slap on it.
- 20:34It won't even go to court.
- 20:35If you say you're guilty, you get your slap on it.
- 20:37I get that side, but I'll get out of the Premier League.
- 20:40I'm a bit mad there.
- 20:41I'll have the Premier League let it go on for 10 years.
- 20:44And they knew, they must have known within the first 18 months of this all starting.
- 20:48Like, why aren't they coming out?
- 20:49Because they're all well and good being transparent when it suits them.
- 20:53So 10 years ago, they should have just went, we think that you're at it right now and come out in the public because they've done it to us.
- 20:58We think Everton have been bang at it.
- 21:00And you know what?
- 21:01They just sank us.
- 21:02They just went 10 points.
- 21:03There you go.
- 21:04There's your deal.
- 21:05Off you pop.
- 21:06you're probably going to be going down.
- 21:08And thank God we did.
- 21:09And Sean Dyche saved us from, I still never know how we've done that.
- 21:12But... Go on Dychey.
- 21:14Yeah, but he did.
- 21:15And...
- 21:18It infuriates me the ways we were dealt with so harshly and so quickly.
- 21:22And I know what you're saying.
- 21:23They haven't admitted it to be dealt with.
- 21:25But ultimately, like I've said before, football is so transparent.
- 21:29It doesn't take a rocket scientist to go, you've got this much coming in, you've got that much going out, and you've spent this much on players.
- 21:37It's not right, guys.
- 21:38I don't know.
- 21:39We have a problem with that in our house.
- 21:41It's incredible.
- 21:43Well, we've got this much coming in.
- 21:45Why have we got that much going out?
- 21:47Oh, don't start me off on that.
- 21:49And we've had those conversations.
- 21:51And I'll tell you what, it's took 10 years.
- 21:52Yeah, I'm still tired after 25.
- 21:57Just plead guilty.
- 21:59Yeah, I do.
- 22:01Might plead the fifth.
- 22:04Ozzy, I had a couple of questions for you on this, from a player's perspective.
- 22:08So you played during the period where some of these charges were brought away.
- 22:13You're owed a few quids.
- 22:14They've done you.
- 22:16Yeah.
- 22:16Go and speak to your beef.
- 22:18Get your name in.
- 22:18They're like that.
- 22:20Come on, baby.
- 22:21Call Rex Macon.
- 22:22Sexy Rex.
- 22:23It's time to call Sexy Rex.
- 22:28Some of these seasons where we were probably the closest for you and Everton making more money.
- 22:332011-12, we missed Europa League by one spot.
- 22:352012-13, we missed Europa League by one spot.
- 22:422013-14, we missed the Champions League by one spot and City finished first, second, first in those three years.
- 22:51So, Ozzy, as a player, do you feel like you've had something robbed from you in that light?
- 23:02It's a bit weird because obviously we never sort of achieved stuff in that year.
- 23:09Missed the opportunity, yeah, they've stolen opportunity, haven't they?
- 23:13They've not stolen any titles from me.
- 23:17They've not stolen anything like that in terms of actually pipping me to the post.
- 23:22I didn't finish second in the league.
- 23:25At first when it came out, I was thinking, ah, well, it's part of football and it, you know, never won in any way.
- 23:30Would I be one of those players that wants the title had I finished second?
- 23:36At first I was thinking no, but maybe I would.
- 23:38I mean, we've been at Everton, we haven't won anything for so many years.
- 23:43I'd have liked the opportunity to be in Europe and had another crack at it.
- 23:47Because we got close in Europe a couple of times, we felt we had good momentum.
- 23:50At those times we were talking about, we had actually good teams that deserve to play in Europe.
- 23:57We missed out on that on three or four seasons while I played.
- 24:00I should have had three or four more seasons of European football.
- 24:03I should have had, all down to simple things, I should have had another 60, 70 appearances.
- 24:09Maybe not that many, but 50 extra appearances from playing in Europe for years.
- 24:14five seasons or whatever it is, more goals, more situations, more opportunities, maybe another crack at a couple of different cup competitions, which maybe we would have put all our eggs in that basket and, and, and gone, and gone close on those occasions.
- 24:28So, so,
- 24:30Yeah, missed opportunities as much as anything else.
- 24:33And I actually wondered, because a lot of people, you know the people who are used to winning titles, and they've won titles in cup competitions and all that throughout their careers, and they're saying, I wouldn't want to be gifted the medal.
- 24:49I wouldn't want to be gifted stuff in that way because I didn't win it properly.
- 24:53And I get that because...
- 24:55You want the feeling of winning.
- 24:57The good thing about winning is being in the stadium and being in that moment and celebrating that win.
- 25:03But for clubs like us that haven't won anything for a while and ever got close, I think I would want, I think I actually would, when I started thinking about it, I think I actually would want the medal.
- 25:13I think I would.
- 25:14I think I would want me to say that I actually did win the league.
- 25:17Get in.
- 25:18I did win the league after all.
- 25:19I might not have got to celebrate it, but yeah, I think a lot of people have missed out.
- 25:26deserve to have that on their records that they did I know it's I know it's different I see Tony in a posture it's like Tony losing a fight but the guy put it that way if you went into a ring with someone it was for a world title and he beat you but it turns out he'd been cheating and doing it that way and one of you has had to have the title but you walked away without it but found out it was because he was cheating and you
- 25:49You deserve to have the title.
- 25:51You'd got yourself to that point where you got to fight for the title.
- 25:53And he cheated you out of it.
- 25:56You'd won the title, surely?
- 25:58No.
- 26:00Oh, really?
- 26:01Speak, speak me.
- 26:02Don't get me wrong.
- 26:03There's one thing, there's one scenario missing out here, and that's obviously in my profession, in my sport, that's drugs.
- 26:12That's how they cheat in my sport.
- 26:14You can't, money's not going to really change anything in my sport.
- 26:18So, yeah, that's, but it's a bit different.
- 26:21The lives are at risk in my sport.
- 26:23So, you know, the belt is not really...
- 26:27is not really important until you're out and safe in one piece.
- 26:31Yeah, but you wouldn't want the belt though if somebody cheated against you.
- 26:34Say you got to the point where you were the number one contender for this.
- 26:37This belt's free and it's available, and you and the other guy, the two number one contenders, you deserve it.
- 26:42You got yourself to that position, right?
- 26:44And he beat you, having done drugs, and having got into that moment, and then actually because of that, you then fall away and you never quite get to be the number one contender again.
- 26:53Yeah.
- 26:53Yeah, but in boxing it's just declared a no contest.
- 26:56In boxing it's not declared, you're the nodder, and it's declared a no contest.
- 27:01So basically what they're trying to say in the league is nullify it, aren't they?
- 27:03They're trying to say there's no champion.
- 27:06and that's what would happen.
- 27:08That's going to be a strange thing that the Premier League that's the biggest, best league in the world, if you look back in the record books, there's a potential for us to have had no champions for so many years.
- 27:17It's embarrassing.
- 27:18That's crazy.
- 27:19Yeah, I'm not sure how the Premier League are going to manage that.
- 27:21It's embarrassing.
- 27:22It's so tough for the Premier League.
- 27:24Yeah.
- 27:24Like everyone's, maybe people...
- 27:26Maybe people are criticising the Premier League.
- 27:28I'm not.
- 27:29I'm wondering how they deal with this.
- 27:31How do you go about making the competition as good as it is?
- 27:34Do you know the one thing?
- 27:35Do you know the best scenario out of all of this?
- 27:38And I know this sounds crazy and no one's going to like this.
- 27:41Is that city we're funded by Abu Dhabi.
- 27:45That's the best scenario out of it all.
- 27:47Because in any other situation else now, everyone else comes out dreadful.
- 27:51The winners, the league, the losers, the money that's caught.
- 27:55Unless, if City proved that everything came from this Abu Dhabi sponsor, which I'm sure they probably could prove it, I think that's... Well, I'm sure the paperwork is fine with it.
- 28:06It has become...
- 28:07but I'll tell you now it's appearing out of nowhere I think that's the best scenario for everybody involved because I don't want to see the likes of Erling Haaland leaving the Premier League I don't want to see the likes of teams being taken apart I don't want to see teams getting deducted 10 points you have to ask the thing of this whose great plan was this to put all these financial restrictions in place because ultimately who's ever plan it was I believe is being paid by the big six
- 28:37because you've made the game unfair.
- 28:41That's what I believe.
- 28:41So whoever put this plan in place, I don't know who that was.
- 28:45Is it was it your Richard Masters?
- 28:47Is that his name or whatever it is?
- 28:48I think I met him the other week where we met the prince and princess.
- 28:53If he was in place, and I don't know if he did, I have no idea, but whoever put these rules in place
- 29:00has done it to the benefit of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, I'd say Tottenham and Chelsea.
- 29:15Because all them teams were generating huge amounts of money when you stuck these restrictions in place.
- 29:21And it just so happens, isn't it, three of them are London clubs.
- 29:26Three of them are London clubs.
- 29:27So as per usual, everyone north of the Watford Gap is looked at as a dickhead in this country.
- 29:32And we're treated wrongly.
- 29:35So Watford Gap.
- 29:36It is everyone north of the Watford Gap.
- 29:38Everyone north of the Watford Gap is treated like, you know, we don't belong.
- 29:43And I just think that's, you know, outside of Liverpool and Manchester United in the North, who did this benefit, guys?
- 29:49Who did this rule, this invention benefit?
- 29:52Because you've got big, big consortiums and huge organisations who have come to the best and richest league in the world and want to take part.
- 30:00Like, why can't Newcastle spend?
- 30:02It's an absolute travesty.
- 30:05I think the rules were put in place...
- 30:07for the smaller clubs, the ones that...
- 30:10But they don't benefit the smaller clubs, Oz, they only benefit the big ones.
- 30:14Yeah, but they don't benefit the smaller.
- 30:16Yeah, but they don't...
- 30:17When you just said, I think they were put in place, they're not in place to benefit the little clubs.
- 30:22But as you said at the start, I think the idea of them was to make sure that a very situation doesn't happen again, to make sure clubs aren't used and abused in that way.
- 30:32So the club, but they went in, were probably without realising the significance of how it would affect the top.
- 30:37But, not the flip side of that, but within that, as you saw, owners will continue.
- 30:45To bend the rules.
- 30:45Owners will continue to find a way.
- 30:47Well, like anyone in any business, in any business, not just football, you'll find a way to skirt the rules, circumvent them, find a way to just about stay.
- 30:56Like look at Man United do.
- 30:58The owners came in, didn't fall foul, but they took a massive loan out against the club.
- 31:02So United are constantly in debt.
- 31:05But they've not fell foul of any rules.
- 31:07There's always...
- 31:09no matter what rule you put in place, no matter who puts rules in place, there are people that will find a way of getting around them.
- 31:15Which I do get, which I do get, but ultimately it still can't be looked at.
- 31:20This rule was put in place to benefit the big six.
- 31:25Chelsea were allowed to come in, go nuts and change their club's history.
- 31:31Let's all be honest, guys, before Abramovich goes anywhere near Chelsea, they're nowhere near the size of Everton.
- 31:37They've overtook us.
- 31:39They've overtook us.
- 31:41And it's all because one fella comes in and just spends an absolute fortune and he just doesn't stop spending.
- 31:46And he's cheated as well, by the way.
- 31:48But I just feel like no one cares.
- 31:53And I feel it should just...
- 31:56It's the most transparent game in the world, football.
- 32:00Because everyone knows what everyone's doing and they do it all in front of each other's faces.
- 32:03You might as well just let everyone cheat.
- 32:05Yeah, bang on.
- 32:08So it's a level playing field.
- 32:09Let anyone spend whatever they want and then you'll really find out.
- 32:12Because if we all be totally honest, most of our lifetime, it's gone on anyway.
- 32:18Teams have spent what they wanted and it hasn't ruined the game or it hasn't made it unfair.
- 32:22You know, when Chelsea were spending all that money, they weren't the best every single year.
- 32:25I don't know, you know, I just feel like it's changed a little bit.
- 32:28There's more money involved now than what there was.
- 32:31There is Leipo, when Abramovich was spending, was Chelsea the best every year?
- 32:35Did they dominate?
- 32:37I don't remember them being the best every single time.
- 32:39And they used to have a good run when Mourinho was there.
- 32:42Of course.
- 32:43Is that more down to the manager than ours?
- 32:45Because once he picked the team, he didn't go, okay.
- 32:48But he doesn't just buy your success, but it helps you.
- 32:51It massively, yes, I agree.
- 32:53But Jose Mourinho, when he takes over to Chelsea, he puts about four to five players in place and he goes, right, we're going for it.
- 33:00And he keeps that team and that core and that, that,
- 33:04spying in place of that team and that's what wins he won the leagues Jose Mourinho as an amazing manager won it yes money helps absolutely but we've as Ozzy touched on before we've seen many a manager come in with many a different chairman spend a hundred okay if money buys success what happened to Liverpool last season they were the champions and they spent five six hundred million and look where they ended up so money is not is not like it's about the manager it's about the tactics it's about the
- 33:34you know there's so many different things to put in play that it's a part of it's not just about the money and not what's it even if we're spending the most it's like why if we spend the most in the world why aren't we the european champions why isn't it a club for england dominating the champions league because our league far surpasses all the other leagues in the world why don't we dominate the champions league every year we start we've started to dominate europe in terms of the lesser competitions yes the three the three competitions every year we
- 34:02our clubs are getting to the latter stage zone winning them consistently now so are the Spanish though because of squad size as much as anything the Spanish and the Italians are still there yeah they're there and the big ones and obviously PSG PSG are an absolute monster in their league mm-hmm
- 34:19So they show it's not all about money, don't they?
- 34:21They're winning it.
- 34:22And that's what I'm saying.
- 34:22Well, no, it is.
- 34:24They're spending money as well.
- 34:25Of course they are.
- 34:26They're spending more money out there than the other teams that league.
- 34:28Well, I'll tell you what, they're not spending more than the Premier League though.
- 34:31So why aren't we beating them?
- 34:32Because if it's all about money, we should be handing PSG their arses.
- 34:36And we're not.
- 34:37They're handing us our arses.
- 34:38And we're the richest league and we're spending the most money in the world.
- 34:41I mean, I'm pretty sure our transfer window this year surpassed all the leagues combined together.
- 34:47I'm embarrassed since that.
- 34:49How embarrassing is that?
- 34:51Wait, sorry, I didn't hear that.
- 34:53I'm pretty sure our transfer turnover for the Premier League this season beats all the other league combined.
- 35:00Yeah, well, we've started to buy off within our league for money rather than
- 35:09from going round Europe.
- 35:10I think there was some sort of stat on that in terms of getting a good price because only Premier League clubs could actually pay the price that Premier League clubs want these days.
- 35:18I just think they need to re-look at the rules.
- 35:20They need to re-look at the rules, the Premier League, and say, listen,
- 35:23We can't have a format in place that favours the big six.
- 35:27Not fair.
- 35:28You're letting us all go out and you're telling us it's a level playing field.
- 35:31No, it's not.
- 35:32It's not a level playing field.
- 35:34Because we can't spend as much as they can.
- 35:36And how are we ever going to catch them?
- 35:38How is anyone ever going to catch Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in terms of revenue?
- 35:45How is that ever going to happen, guys, if they keep these rules in place?
- 35:48It can't.
- 35:49So you've got to change them.
- 35:50The game's not fair.
- 35:51Manchester City's revenue isn't up with the others.
- 35:58Excuse me, that's what the whole argument's about.
- 36:00Careful now, Leon.
- 36:00We don't need a lawsuit about attacking those.
- 36:03Allegedly, do you say, Leon?
- 36:04Allegedly.
- 36:05Yeah.
- 36:06Allegedly.
- 36:07Do you know what I think is a good format and this is going to go down like a lead balloon?
- 36:11What the NFL do.
- 36:14but the NFL do.
- 36:14Ozzie probably will love it.
- 36:16That's a sustainable format.
- 36:18It is.
- 36:18In what way?
- 36:19No relegations?
- 36:21No, no.
- 36:21The relegations got to stay 100%.
- 36:23I'm talking about the transfer day with the players, Oz.
- 36:27They have wage caps and every club can only have a certain amount.
- 36:30Every club's got the exact same sort of wage limitations.
- 36:34Yes.
- 36:35That is more sustainable to football.
- 36:37And then when it comes to the bottom team get some of the best players and the top team are the last pick in the draft and stuff like that, I think we could learn from them.
- 36:46I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm just thinking of the most sustainable way to help football.
- 36:52Because if it keeps going, it is going to go pop, guys, eventually.
- 36:55Because it's not sustainable the way it's going.
- 36:56That's what would have been my point is that you can't let everybody just spend what they want because it will just go pop.
- 37:02At some point it will.
- 37:03It will, but it's unfair to say let some spend and let others not.
- 37:06That's not fair.
- 37:09Or you bring back the Super League and let those big teams go off and do their own thing and then we have our own thing here.
- 37:13Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 37:14That'd be easy now, Tiger.
- 37:16Easy now, Tiger.
- 37:17Nothing can affect the Premier League.
- 37:18We have the best and richest league in the world.
- 37:20They're all jealous of our league.
- 37:21Remember that.
- 37:22We don't say swear words on this show, Liam.
- 37:24We don't need to bring that up again.
- 37:26On this show, we don't even acknowledge them.
- 37:28I mean, that league was just a farce.
- 37:30It was a nonsense.
- 37:31No, I totally agree.
- 37:33I definitely would not want that to happen.
- 37:35But if there was a world where they would just spend and spend and spend and spend and spend and then you've got people buying players for 600 million and there's no way that you can compete, would you not just let them go off and just do their own thing?
- 37:46No, no, no.
- 37:47Let it all go proper here first thing and then we'll have a talk about that later.
- 37:50At that point in time, Everton should be back up there amongst the Giants and we should be swimming with the Sharks by then.
- 37:55So, it's a different conversation but a different time.
- 37:59I was going to say, at some point during that though, Liam.
- 38:02even these big, expensive, massive clubs would have to limit themselves because I bring you back to Leeds at the start.
- 38:09Leeds were like, bang, bang, let's spend, let's spend, let's spend, let's spend.
- 38:11Uh-oh, we can't anymore.
- 38:14So clubs, that would start happening to clubs who would then...
- 38:20really struggle.
- 38:22What is the answer then, Oz?
- 38:23Because I've whinged and moaned enough.
- 38:25What is the answer?
- 38:26Because if you can't spend the same, what's the answer?
- 38:30I don't have an answer.
- 38:31And that's why I'm sort of not feeling sorry for the Premier League, but I'm,
- 38:39I'm sort of wondering how do you deal with this?
- 38:42What is the answer?
- 38:43Where do you go?
- 38:44I was watching Punish with the City.
- 38:46No one's going to be happy with stuff.
- 38:48I don't know.
- 38:48I think they have to have a punishment.
- 38:52If it's guilty, guilty, guilty, yeah, then they have to have a punishment now, and then I think they have to have a punishment ongoing to stop them being able to win titles for the next, well, how many years is it now?
- 39:05I don't know.
- 39:06And again, I'm just...
- 39:09I mean, listen, they could very well still win the league if they were minus 10 points.
- 39:12I'm not joking.
- 39:14Well, then you have to go minus 15 then.
- 39:16I suppose.
- 39:18But then, is Haaland going to stay at Man City?
- 39:22No.
- 39:23And those kind of players, if...
- 39:25okay, they'll take the punishment this year and they'll say fine, and they get relegated, even to come back.
- 39:29So three years' time, if he's back in the Premier League, but he has to try and win the league with minus 15 points.
- 39:34He's got Barcelona.
- 39:36He's got Barcelona written all over.
- 39:37Those players aren't hanging around for those situations.
- 39:39Not a chance.
- 39:40Barcelona, he's got written all over.
- 39:42Erling Haaland would...
- 39:44The Viking will dominate wherever he goes.
- 39:46He will just take over.
- 39:49I'll tell you what a funny sort of situation, because obviously we're talking about...
- 39:56teams have missed out on titles and we've missed out on Europe and how do we get to this?
- 40:00And can players all get compensation?
- 40:02Can every individual player now who's missed out on their bonuses that were in their contract, excuse me, can they all start asking, putting claims in for that if the club are getting paid?
- 40:12And we're talking about all this
- 40:14Yes, they can.
- 40:16Yes, they can, because Everton had to pay Burnley.
- 40:18I didn't realise that Everton had to pay Burnley 40 million quid, guys.
- 40:21That's disgusting.
- 40:23So the Burnley players are now getting compensation.
- 40:26Can the Burnley players get compensation for having, because they had bad bonuses in their contract to say, if we stay in the Premier League and get paid.
- 40:33And now the club have been compensated.
- 40:34Can the players get compensated for that?
- 40:37We're starting to get such a messy place, but taking money out of it, because of all of this situation.
- 40:42I heard a funny one yesterday, it was,
- 40:45that if Man City weren't competing for the titles in the way they did, then the year that Steven Gerrard slipped, right, Liverpool would have won the title, which means they would have won it that one season, which means Brendan Rodgers would have still been their manager at the end of that season.
- 41:06So going into the next season, I think Brendan Rodgers was fired midway through the season.
- 41:11But if he'd have won the title...
- 41:13season before as shown with all the slots just done they wouldn't have sacked him about between the season because he'd probably been competing again or they'd have definitely given more time which would have mean that yeah the manager that they got halfway through that next season jürgen klopp would not have joined liverpool at that moment and the jürgen klopp went for two interviews at that time for two different clubs liverpool
- 41:38and Man United.
- 41:39Oh, wow.
- 41:40So Jurgen Klopp, having not had Liverpool as an option, probably would have gone to Man United in that moment.
- 41:47Slide and doors moment.
- 41:48City fans are now thinking, well...
- 41:52Thank God Man United didn't get Jurgen Klopp.
- 41:55Liverpool fans are thinking, once we're fair, it's actually not bad that City did this to us because we ended up with Jurgen Klopp.
- 42:02So, slide the doors moments that Jurgen Klopp, had City not done that to Liverpool in that moment, Jurgen Klopp would have been at Man United for all them years.
- 42:10And Man United may have, you'd have to say, would have been a different football club.
- 42:15He wouldn't have been given the time at United he was given at Liverpool.
- 42:21No way.
- 42:22Because he didn't start great at Liverpool.
- 42:24He didn't start great at Liverpool loss.
- 42:26Yeah, but it was a bad squad when he first took over.
- 42:28I know, and it's even worse at United.
- 42:33It was even worse at United.
- 42:35On that point, though, where you just said the butterfly effect,
- 42:39where you said that Klopp would have ended up there, blah, blah, blah.
- 42:41When we missed out on Champions League, that was Roberto Martinez, and then the year after we came 11th.
- 42:46If we'd have got in the Champions League, came 4th.
- 42:48Is that like the same situation?
- 42:50Yeah, big sliding doors moments.
- 42:52You're right.
- 42:53Aussie spot on, aren't you?
- 42:54They're all sliding doors moments, and obviously, coming back to Edmonton, someone put on Sky, someone texted into Sky or emailed into Sky to say, shh.
- 43:05We fell foul.
- 43:06We've just had to pay Burnley that money because we admitted to PSR breaches.
- 43:10We also had to take 10 points because of PSR breaches and all this, this, this, this.
- 43:16was Man City doing this to us and us missing out on Europe that many times?
- 43:20Are they the reason that we didn't get enough money so that we fell foul of PSR breaches and all these situations?
- 43:27And you could argue, yeah.
- 43:28You could argue that these sliding doors moments mean that we missed out on revenue as a club, which actually now meant we fell foul of all the rules we fell of.
- 43:37It's so messy.
- 43:39I tell you, it's just so messy.
- 43:41so it's just that's why I feel sorry for the Premier League and trying to work all this out because it's just there's to blame ultimately as well should have been on them earlier I don't care what there's no excuse for both transparents I keep saying it you know what's coming in you know what's going on go in there and say we're not having this but if people are hiding it it's hard to spot I tell you the Premier League are
- 44:03Hands are tied.
- 44:04It's tough.
- 44:04They didn't cooperate with the Premier League.
- 44:06They didn't cooperate with them.
- 44:08I know, but you know, they have to put deals down.
- 44:12You know who's getting bored.
- 44:13You know who's coming in.
- 44:13You know who's going out.
- 44:15It's transparent.
- 44:18And when they're saying, right, we've got this sponsor, we've got that sponsor, we should have went straight away.
- 44:23We want to see exact, you know, we want to see the money going into the account from the sponsor right now.
- 44:27We want to see it.
- 44:30We want transparency.
- 44:32Every deal that's put in place for a football club should be made transparent and in cooperation with the Premier League.
- 44:39And that should just be the way it is.
- 44:40In any other business it would be.
- 44:43Any other business or any other franchise have to do, they will do.
- 44:45You can imagine the Americans, can you imagine like the Dallas Cowboys contract, some of them have to give over to the NFL and stuff like that.
- 44:52It has to be transparent, otherwise everyone's going to cheat.
- 44:55And imagine, here's the frightening part.
- 44:57Do you know if everyone becomes transparent, you soon see.
- 45:01The league will just blow up.
- 45:04Because once, I'm telling you now, I'm just a realist.
- 45:07Everybody's cheating.
- 45:08Everybody's been at it for years.
- 45:10Everton was just inept and got nicked because we were being run.
- 45:15So of everyone that's cheating, we were just bad cheats.
- 45:18Yeah, we were the worst that's cheating.
- 45:21Yeah, we were being run by morons.
- 45:24Being run by morons.
- 45:26Absolute maniacs.
- 45:27Psychopaths who think they're playing fancy football on a PC.
- 45:31You can't do it.
- 45:32It's just madness.
- 45:34And then you've got even the highest clubs and the wealthiest people have now shown they're inept as well.
- 45:42Boban Abramovich was running Chelsea like it was just a cash machine.
- 45:46It's nuts.
- 45:47It's crazy.
- 45:49And they're just having a laugh.
- 45:50And then City are doing this as well now.
- 45:53But like I said, the only frightening point is how long it's been going on.
- 45:59You know it's been going on.
- 46:02They've done it right under your noses.
- 46:06Do you know, imagine when Liverpool have got to go, so you know what, guys, you've just spent £500 million that season.
- 46:09Do you want to explain how that's all been able to happen?
- 46:14And go right through your books and go right through all your sponsorships.
- 46:16And now my luck, you know, they'll be able to pull out every single thing anyway because when they spend, they spend properly.
- 46:21They don't spend very often when they do, they spend.
- 46:23And Jeff Bezos is aware about that.
- 46:24That's what I'm saying.
- 46:25So, you know, next thing you're going to know, that whole of Anfield's covered in an Amazon box.
- 46:29And you go, well, that's how we afforded that.
- 46:32So it's just, everything should just be so transparent.
- 46:38I think it is.
- 46:39We have transfer deadline day.
- 46:41We all see the transfers coming in and going out.
- 46:44At what point?
- 46:45It surely didn't take 10 years for someone to go on the big table at the Premier League to go, you know what, lads?
- 46:50It just doesn't quite stack up for these.
- 46:52I know it's been 10 years, but it doesn't stack up.
- 46:54It was stacking up after the first year they were at it.
- 46:57It was stacking up after the second year they were at it.
- 46:59And it's just took someone with a set of bollocks to go in and go, yous aren't doing this no more.
- 47:03Give us everything now.
- 47:05Or you know what?
- 47:05We're going to suspend yous.
- 47:07And that's what it needs.
- 47:08It needs someone with big enough bollocks to go, we will suspend yous from the league.
- 47:12you won't be playing league games.
- 47:14And that's what I think it needs.
- 47:15And if someone hasn't got a big enough set of cojones to do it, that's what it boils down to, lads.
- 47:22That's what it boils down to.
- 47:24And whoever was in that position who should have made it, didn't make it.
- 47:27And instead, you know what they've done?
- 47:28They made them stronger.
- 47:30They made the big six stronger by going, you know what?
- 47:32Forget them.
- 47:33None of you can spend as well.
- 47:35You can't spend like them.
- 47:37Imagine how you'd feel if you were a Newcastle owner.
- 47:40How frustrating would that be?
- 47:42Your big players are just getting whisked off into nowhere.
- 47:45You've actually done the hard part.
- 47:46Eddie Howe got them into the Champions League.
- 47:48He done the really hard bit.
- 47:51And then you get there and guess what?
- 47:52They can't spend.
- 47:54Because their turnover must be good numbers.
- 47:57You know, Newcastle, that ground's full every week, isn't it?
- 48:01It's so sad that them owners can't do what they need to do.
- 48:04But the revenue's not there.
- 48:05So, yeah, I understand in terms of,
- 48:08if a team does qualify for the Champions League, that they now, everybody needs to know that you now need to strengthen.
- 48:15So for instance, us, we were talking about, we nearly got in Europe last season, but with the team ready, because we haven't got the depth of squad, we haven't got the opportunity, revenue wise, we can't spend X amount of money over the summer, because...
- 48:28We'll fall foul of PA. We just can't do it.
- 48:31So yeah, if you get in that moment and you've actually got an owner, an owner that could actually go out there and spend, excuse me, 250 million on five players to actually strengthen his squad over the summer, but you're not allowed.
- 48:45So getting in the Champions League actually ends up hurting you because you've now got loads more games, but you're not allowed to spend more.
- 48:52Yeah, it's a tough situation.
- 48:55It really, really is.
- 48:56You just need transparency.
- 48:58Yeah, I don't know if we're going to get an answer anytime soon, but I think the only thing we want is for Ozzy to get paid what he deserves.
- 49:07and to keep carrying on with these dicey impressions that he's doing because every time he can't I will apologise I'm in Spain at the minute aren't I on this charity golf trip that you were supposed to be on yourself Tony that you dropped out of
- 49:28I'm here, basically, earning money for kids.
- 49:32That's why I'm out here.
- 49:33I'm out here playing golf.
- 49:34There's no better way, Cosi.
- 49:35Good on you.
- 49:35I'm out here playing golf.
- 49:37I'm doing it for the kids.
- 49:38Oh, mate.
- 49:39I love you, Leo.
- 49:40I love you very much.
- 49:42And you obviously didn't like the kids enough, so you decided to go and be selfish.
- 49:46Terrible, Tony.
- 49:47Terrible.
- 49:48Oh, Leo, I do love you.
- 49:50You horror.
- 49:51I'm here for charity.
- 49:53Think of the kids, Tony.
- 49:54It's not easy.
- 49:55Oh, wow.
- 49:55It's not easy being over here.
- 49:58The stuff his boss will believe is next level.
- 50:00And the sun's come out today as well.
- 50:01It's been raining for the last three days.
- 50:03Really?
- 50:04Have you had to play in the rain?
- 50:06I did, yeah.
- 50:07That's made me feel a lot better.
- 50:08I had to play golf over in Spain in the rain for the charity.
- 50:14But I did it, Tony.
- 50:15I did it.
- 50:16Now the sun's come out.
- 50:18Because I was thinking about the good it would do.
- 50:21for everybody and the joy it would bring to people.
- 50:25You're jamming.
- 50:25And you decided not to come because you...
- 50:27I can't come because I am actually working.
- 50:29I worked yesterday and today I'm doing the podcast
- 50:33And then I'm meant to be going to watch my own son playing his games, which is going to be abroad hopefully, but we'll see.
- 50:42Oh nice.
- 50:43Nice.
- 50:43So just to point out that I'm over here on this charity golf trip, that's why my voice is rough, but it's because of the air conditioning in the room.
- 50:54Do you know what air conditioning is like?
- 50:58Oh, I thought he was going to say it then.
- 51:00He can't even bring himself to tell the truth.
- 51:02He was so close to it, and then he just changed it.
- 51:05Wow.
- 51:06It's the air conditioning.
- 51:07It's everyone else here with air conditioning.
- 51:10The air conditioning is bad.
- 51:11Leon, the longest you've spent in that hotel room is the time you're talking right now.
- 51:21to sham yeah there's no transparency with him whatsoever no don't know what you're talking about I think you're being unreal harsh and you're going to have to prove it we're going to rig 115 charges against you I thought he was going to say 115 pints no 115 charges number one croaky voice nice impressions I came on and before before you joined me and Liam before you joined at the start and Liam looked at me and went oh put a cap on will you
- 51:52Oh no.
- 51:53I'd be honest.
- 51:55You best put a cap on, you know, I'm like, alright, okay.
- 51:58I do like the cap very nice.
- 52:00Thank you.
- 52:00It is a nice cap.
- 52:01Come on.
- 52:01Nice cap.
- 52:02Let's round up with a quick look at the weekend ahead.
- 52:05Premier League's back.
- 52:06We've got Hull.
- 52:07Think we can keep the unbeaten record.
- 52:09They've been pretty good as well though.
- 52:10They're getting a hiding.
- 52:12They're going to be more of the Tigers.
- 52:13We'll show you that's a more of the bleeding Tigers.
- 52:17getting mowed by the daggers, mowed by the daggers.
- 52:20No, you're going to get hammered.
- 52:21Toffees are coming into town.
- 52:23What was it we said that didn't quite work?
- 52:26It didn't have a thing.
- 52:26You're getting chewed up.
- 52:27You're getting chewed by the toffees.
- 52:29Chewed by the toffees.
- 52:31Yeah.
- 52:32Let's leave that one alone.
- 52:33Let's leave it to see if that one's... Yeah, we can get somebody in the side.
- 52:38Get the fuck down.
- 52:39Give it that.
- 52:40Yeah, I...
- 52:43I think you've got to fancy it.
- 52:44I think you've got to be thinking, despite Hull's start, and by the way, they've had a good start.
- 52:50They beat Man United.
- 52:53They went to Chelsea, and they were actually really unlucky not to beat Chelsea.
- 52:58So this game is hard, because you look all the time, and you think, oh, babe, you've got to beat the newly promoted teams home and away.
- 53:04And it's not straightforward.
- 53:05But I mean, instinct is still saying that.
- 53:07You've got to go to home and win.
- 53:09You've got to beat these teams.
- 53:10But I haven't seen the way they performed in their games.
- 53:13It's going to be tough, you know.
- 53:14It is going to be tough.
- 53:15It's going to be a tough game.
- 53:17They just need to go on.
- 53:18They don't concede.
- 53:19They don't...
- 53:20They're decent defensively.
- 53:22Where that's probably our sort of issue is converting opportunities.
- 53:30So yeah, I think it's tough.
- 53:31I think...
- 53:32I think Tyler Dibblom might start this game.
- 53:35I think this might be the one for him.
- 53:39To actually go out and show what he's capable of against the whole team.
- 53:45They play a back five, so tactically, it's not straight us, we're both playing the same system, we'll be playing different systems, so you've got to make your
- 53:55advantages count in the right places.
- 53:57And generally, I always think, if you're playing against a team at a back five and you're playing a winger and a fullback, overlap and fullbacks should be able to go 2v1 against wingbacks.
- 54:07You should be getting the ball out there all the time.
- 54:102v1, overlaps, overlaps.
- 54:11Make sure you get people in the box for crosses.
- 54:14So that's weird.
- 54:14Because obviously you're 3-5-2 or the way you do it.
- 54:17Generally, three centre-halves, generally three midfielders.
- 54:20So you're thicker and you've got more players in there.
- 54:22So you're weaker in the wider areas.
- 54:25So hopefully we'll take advantage of there.
- 54:26So Dibbling, whoever's playing in the wide area, his full backs.
- 54:31I mean, Mikhelenko got injured, didn't he?
- 54:32I don't know if he's, I don't know his, I don't know how severe the injury was, but he picked up, that'll be a tough one for us to cover because of... That's a disaster.
- 54:47because of us have no other left backs.
- 54:49I don't know.
- 54:49Hopefully everyone's back as fit as can be.
- 54:52Because on paper it's a game we've got to win.
- 54:55Yeah, do you think there's an argument?
- 54:57Sorry, the fans that go there will be expecting us to win.
- 55:00Oh, yeah.
- 55:00Yeah, for sure.
- 55:01For sure.
- 55:02But they've only conceded for this season.
- 55:04So as you said, it is tough.
- 55:06Do you think because there's been so much time in between the...
- 55:11the last game that we played that we do have to do something a bit different like throw a dibbling into the mix just to because Hull have had a long time to sort of like have a look at how to try and prevent Everton from scoring and creating chances Yeah but at the same time we've had a lot of time to have a look at them as well
- 55:29So would you expect them to make massive changes?
- 55:31I wouldn't, because what's worked for them is worked for them.
- 55:36And remember, we're going into this touch wood at the moment.
- 55:39Hope we come out of it in the same.
- 55:40Unbeaten.
- 55:42Not conceding that many goals.
- 55:44So what we've been doing has been working for us as well.
- 55:47So I don't expect too many changes.
- 55:49I don't expect both managers to try and come up with something clever because they've had a lot of time to think about it.
- 55:56So, but there might be one or two changes.
- 55:58I would say Dibbling's right on the edge of having earned himself a start, which I'm delighted for him because halfway through last season, you're wondering where he's going.
- 56:10Has he got enough fight in him?
- 56:11And this season, he's come out swinging, he's come out fighting, and he's ready to compete, and I really like it.
- 56:15So...
- 56:17Yeah, I hope that continues.
- 56:18Tyreek George is the same.
- 56:20We sat on the pod at the start of the season saying we need one of them to step up.
- 56:24And actually, both of them have raised their levels.
- 56:26So that's good.
- 56:28Because the main thing is we need to find goals from somewhere else.
- 56:31We really do.
- 56:32Tieno scored last week.
- 56:33I can't believe he got the other one took off him.
- 56:38Should have been a goal for me.
- 56:39But...
- 56:41We can't just rely on this one guy to constantly score goals.
- 56:43We've got to find goals elsewhere in the team.
- 56:45You've got to, especially your wide men, your top wide men, you've got to get over five goals from either side, hopefully approaching 10 each from either wing.
- 56:53Then Gearsby, Keenan will get 10.
- 56:55Hackney will get four or five.
- 56:57Garner should be getting four or five.
- 57:00You've got to spread your centre-half, get you a few goals.
- 57:03You've got to spread the goals around.
- 57:04It's not always just on the striker.
- 57:08Spot on.
- 57:09I agree.
- 57:11Come on then.
- 57:11Score predictions.
- 57:142-1.
- 57:151-1.
- 57:17You think 1-0?
- 57:18Do you think it draws?
- 57:191-1, yeah.
- 57:20Oof.
- 57:21I think we'll draw it.
- 57:23I want us to win.
- 57:24You looked at me like I was rooting for a 1-1 draw.
- 57:28I'm not wanting a 1-1 draw.
- 57:29I want us to win.
- 57:30But I think it'll be 1-1.
- 57:32I can repeat them 2-1.
- 57:36Yeah.
- 57:36I hope so.
- 57:38How's your fantasy team been going, Liam?
- 57:41It's been the international day.
- 57:44Are you still top?
- 57:45Can we talk to us about it?
- 57:47Are you trying to bring it up because Tony's bottom?
- 57:49Yeah.
- 57:50It's funny how you knew who was bottom, but you didn't know who was top, didn't you?
- 57:54I just thought I had to bring it up.
- 57:56Just piss off you, though.
- 57:57Go and play your golf.
- 58:01Don't be like that.
- 58:03No need to be like that.
- 58:04Hey, what about, though, swinging it back to the City and the whole situation?
- 58:12When all this comes out about Man City, and you've obviously had that international break for everyone to go, the first game back after all this has come out is away at Anfield.
- 58:22Yeah, it's massive, though.
- 58:24Massive.
- 58:25What are you doing, Tony?
- 58:27No.
- 58:27It's what I mean.
- 58:28What are you doing?
- 58:30Trying to cancel your old meas.
- 58:33Sticking something in your ear.
- 58:35For anyone who can't see, he's literally trying to tickle his brain.
- 58:42He'd have a tough job.
- 58:43It's absolutely failed because there's absolutely nothing in there.
- 58:46No.
- 58:47He can't reach you.
- 58:49Yeah.
- 58:50Yeah, so Man City away at Anfield for that first game back on the Sunday.
- 58:55And people believe the Premier League didn't know this was coming.
- 58:58Yeah, sure thing, mate.
- 59:00More conspiracy theories again, but absolutely not it was coming.
- 59:09That's not a coincidence.
- 59:10The goal into Anfield, first game back, stop it.
- 59:14Stop it now.
- 59:16They are good.
- 59:17Imagine the reception.
- 59:18I do get what you're saying.
- 59:19I do get what you're saying.
- 59:20But surely... Just a three-week international break, Lee.
- 59:23Yeah, just a three-week international break.
- 59:25I don't think I've ever seen a three-week international break in the first season ever.
- 59:30No, this is the first time that they're trying to squash two international breaks into one.
- 59:34And on the first Friday, before the international break starts and kicks in, they drop.
- 59:40That City have been charged with 115 charges.
- 59:43And you know what, lads?
- 59:43You know what we're going to do to make it even better?
- 59:45We're going to go and play our both bitterest rivals throughout this rain that day round.
- 59:51Yeah, okey-dokey, mate.
- 59:52I'm supposed to believe that was just a coincidence.
- 59:55Sure thing.
- 59:56Good luck.
- 59:56Maybe I'm just naive.
- 59:59Me too.
