- 0:00Hello and welcome back to the show. It's Dune here, your host and hype girl. In this mini episode, I'm bringing you some absolute gold resources for this week and the deets on our launch parties in London and New York. Let's get straight into this episode. This is me for Female Startup Club. Hello.
- 0:22I hope you are having the most beautiful Friday and that your week was super productive and joyful and moved you towards your goals for this year.
- 0:35I cannot believe that we are close to March, for one. And secondly, I can't believe that I am just over one week away from launching my book into the wild and accomplishing the goal that I set for myself in January 2021. Holy goodness.
- 0:56But before we get into the book updates and all the launch party stuff, let me take you through a few quick resources that might be useful for you this week. First up on the ranks is a company called LegalPad. Now, they're a female-founded business that specifically helps founders relocate to the U.S. on the O-1 visa.
- 1:20I don't know about you, but when I've looked into moving to the U.S. in the past, the whole process seemed so overwhelming and totally out of reach. But I recently connected with the team at LegalPad to chat about ways we might be able to work together. And I was so impressed to learn about how they help people like me, like you, to move to the U.S. and move your business to the U.S.
- 1:44I have spent so much time on immigration and visas and all of the mountain loads of admin linked to it. And I know how much a pain in the butt it can be. So if you're someone in the world dreaming of relocating to the U.S. to build your business there, check them out online and obviously tell them that I sent you. Very, very cool.
- 2:09Next up is Gloria Chu. I've mentioned her before, but I want to mention her again because Gloria is a PR expert specifically for small business owners. She does PR. Well, she's in the PR kind of space that helps all kinds of businesses, whether you're a service provider or whether you're a product based e-com founder, all that kind of stuff.
- 2:31I got introduced to her through a mini mastermind group that I'm part of. And since we met, she has just been such a star. So I want to make sure everyone knows what she is up to and what she's all about.
- 2:43Pre-COVID, she had a retainer model agency with clients, and then obviously the pandemic hit and she knew she needed to act fast to keep things moving. So she pivoted to an online-only business and turned all of her wealth of knowledge in the PR industry into this epic course that teaches founders and small business owners how to do their own PR. Yeah.
- 3:08She actually gave me access to the course to check it out, and I can tell you how legit it actually is. But the course isn't actually where the magic lies. The magic is in the media lists that she's curating and kind of updating on a daily basis. She literally goes through and curates thousands of journalists and their contact details across different keywords and industries and provides you with their email so you can just reach out directly. Okay.
- 3:36So basically you take her learnings, you figure out like how to pitch, how to outreach, how to develop your kind of profile from things like LinkedIn to, you know, what you actually send them in an email about you. And then you can actually go and start building key relationships with those journalists yourself, which I think is really, really cool to own the relationship, especially when you're at a stage of business where you're not able to hire a PR agency to do all that stuff for you.
- 4:03Pretty cool. I've been digging around in there this morning, sifting through contacts specifically for the book because she has this whole section about book PR contacts and different like book related stuff. So it's super, super relevant to me at the moment. She's also going to be coming into our private network in the next month or two to give a workshop on all things PR, which I'm so excited about.
- 4:26And I also just wanted to let you know that even if you're not in Hype Club, because we haven't opened the doors for a little bit of a while at the moment, and we're still trying to figure out when we reopen the doors. But in the meantime, she also has a free masterclass on her website that you can directly sign up to and get a dose of the good stuff from her there.
- 4:47Third on the list, what are we up to? Third on the list is a Shopify plugin called GetCaro. Maybe it's GetCaro or Caro. I don't know, but GetCaro, which is spelled C-A-R-R-O. This is a tool that helps brands build relationships with influencers, but it's actually so cool in the way that it works.
- 5:07Basically, you plug it into your Shopify site and it syncs up your social media followers and shows you what influencers or people of influence are already following you. So these are the folks who have influence. They have intent. They already love you and they already love your product. Well, hopefully that's why they're following you. And it also helps you reach out to them easily all in one place instead of having to kind of like go through DMs and chat with people there.
- 5:35The other thing that they do is they also help you cross-sell products with other aligned Shopify stores to list each other's products. And the benefit of that is that you also both get the customer info if someone buys a product that's listed in these cross-sell promotions. So an example of this could be you are someone who currently sells beauty products, but you don't sell beauty tools. So you can essentially expand into new categories,
- 6:03provide your customer with something that they'll likely need and don't need to go somewhere else to buy. And you just partner with a company who sells those tools and then it's a win-win for both of you. It increases your average order value and your customer kind of lifetime value goes up. You're able to split the money. You both get the customer data, all that kind of stuff. It's really cool. I didn't know they did that. I'd heard of GetCaro before, but I didn't know that they had that cross-sell kind of thing built in.
- 6:32Next up on my list is something called Cogsy. Also, I don't know if I'm saying that correctly or not, but Cogsy, C-O-G-S-Y. I just heard of this one really recently, like yesterday, and it is another cracker for product-based founders.
- 6:49The short gist is that it takes your data from Shopify and turns it into accurate forecasts for your biz. So it removes things like spreadsheets that you have to update manually, which are the bane of my existence, and stops any guesswork for future purchase orders. Super, super useful.
- 7:09And last business resource I also just want to quickly mention is Norby. This is a female-founded tech company that makes ridiculously easy marketing tools for entrepreneurs of all kinds, service providers, consultants, coaches, product-based businesses, all that kind of stuff, and creators as well. So,
- 7:30So I use them specifically in my personal and female startup clubs, LinkinBio. And they also have epic features for things like event RSVPs and SMS. And it's all really designed forward. Everything looks super cute. And it's just really cool. All their stuff is really cool. Check it out.
- 7:49And the last resource, but it's less of a business resource. It's more of just a health and wellness thing that I'm doing. So I'm going to share it with you. Last night, I received my whoop, my whoop 4.0 to help me better track my sleep.
- 8:05If you haven't heard of Whoop, they are a company that created a health tracking wearable device thingy for your wrist. They initially targeted it towards athletes, but because it's so good, regular folks like me started raving about it. And so I heard about it through some founders. I know who use it and love it. And they kept recommending it to me. And since I'm someone who has a bit of trouble sleeping...
- 8:30sleeping, I thought I would give it a try. So I literally set it up last night. I would say it's a little clunky on my wrist. Like it's not the most discreet thing. It looks a bit like
- 8:43techie or like I've got a bit of an emergency button, but I also kind of like it because it looks a bit stealth. I just went for like the all black one, but I actually think I'm going to get the all white one because that looks a little bit more chic. But yeah, I'm super excited. It takes a few days to calibrate. So I really don't know how long until I'll have some like interesting points to share, but I'm going to keep you posted on my thoughts about it and what happens after, you know, a couple of weeks of wearing it.
- 9:12That is all my resources for today. I hope you got something out of that. I'm going to link all the things that I mentioned in the show notes, especially the ones that I wasn't sure of the pronunciation of. But let's now talk about book launch, the book launch events, because holy freaking moly, it's all creeping up on me so quickly.
- 9:33Let's start with London because it's the closest one. Next Thursday night, which is the 24th of February in Soho, we have our launch party. This is going to be an intimate kind of cute celebration with a lot of my close friends, a lot of people I know in the industry, and of course, you guys, anyone who's based in London and who listens to the show and is free. We'll be right back.
- 9:56We have a cute DJ playing, Fabian. She's amazing. We have cute drinks from some local businesses here in London. One of them is called Quarter Gin and the other one is called Punchy Drinks. So I'm really excited. It's going to be pretty chill. The point is just to relax and celebrate this big milestone that's coming up, obviously, on the following Monday.
- 10:21Everyone is invited. If you want to come shoot me an email to get on the guest list, you probably know my email by now. I feel like I say it all the time, but it's hello at femaleslightupclub.com. Feel free to slide in there. And then New York, the New York book party is on the 10th of March. And for this one, you actually need to RSVP through my Norby link, which is in the show notes. It's also on my Instagram. It's also on femaleslightupclub's Instagram.
- 10:47This one has limited availability. So be sure to get yourself on the list if you're planning on coming.
- 10:53It's going to be more of a professional networking event that's kind of mixed in with a bit of a party. I'm going to be hosting a panel-style conversation with Kim from Omsom and Rushi from Avrani. The event is in collaboration with Nobi and our friends at Brick and Click, which is an experiential retail experience for DTC brands.
- 11:19There's going to be yummy food. There's going to be great drinks. There's going to be some goodie bags. And I think it's going to be super cool. I haven't been to New York in a while, so I'm so excited to meet anyone who is from the New York posse of Female Startup Club and enjoy the book celebration. Basically, enjoy the two-week kind of book launch period.
- 11:39Both events are totally free. And yeah, I'm just so excited. These are going to be the first RIL events that I've ever done. And it's the first time where I'm going to be able to meet some of you beautiful humans who listen to the show. So I can't wait. Last thing, while we're on the book stuff.
- 11:59Holy moly. The book is just over a week away from launching and I am just all sorts of crazy excited slash super overwhelmed slash butterflies in my tummy slash might throw up feelings. It's been over a year now in the making to lead up to this moment. And I don't know,
- 12:20If you've been through this with launching something, but of course, like, I feel like I started with so much time on my hands and really preparing myself, which I feel like I've gotten a lot done. But I also feel like now I'm in this scramble phase of just being like, holy shit, like, I've got to get all this stuff done. How am I going to get it done? But.
- 12:38The deadline is approaching. It's coming out really soon. It's going to be available to order from the 28th, which is Monday. And for that week only, we're going to do some celebration offers on the site. So it's easy. It's affordable for everyone. Absolutely anyone can buy it. Even if it's just the Kindle version, it's going to be super cool on that Monday to Friday.
- 12:58And the reason why I'm doing that is because with your help, I'm aiming for an Amazon bestseller. And yeah, afterwards, I think I'm going to do a bit more of a breakdown on what we've done for the launch plan and like what worked, what didn't work, how much money I spent on this and all that kind of stuff. If you want to hear that, definitely slide into my Instagram DMs. Let me know if you have any specific questions so I can kind of get working on preparing what
- 13:27that episode will look like, but I want to share with you kind of like my launch plan and then yeah, what worked, what didn't work in hindsight, which obviously we won't know until after the launch week.
- 13:39Alrighty, that is all from me today in this quick episode. Thank you so much for being part of my journey in building Female Startup Club and this book.
