2:23
Speaker 4: McCuskey, A g. Good morning, Welcome to the show.
2:27
Speaker 7: Good morning, Dave.
2:28
Speaker 4: How are you doing fine?
2:30
Speaker 3: First of all, I know you would want to say
2:32
Speaker 3: something to the people of Marion and Ohio Counties this morning.
2:37
Speaker 7: Yeah. North central West Virginia is my home, and there's
2:40
Speaker 7: just so many people that are suffering today, and I
2:44
Speaker 7: think to them, we all offer our prayers, and we
2:47
Speaker 7: all offer our thoughts, and we offer our from the
2:50
Speaker 7: government standpoint, whatever you need, right, I mean, we just
2:53
Speaker 7: we need to all come together like we always do
2:56
Speaker 7: and get past this and hopefully we can start to
2:59
Speaker 7: come up with some real strategies moving forward for these
3:03
Speaker 7: communities and local governments to be able to understand what
3:09
Speaker 7: to do in the day after a flood, because you
3:11
Speaker 7: know what we're working on now, is making sure there's
3:13
Speaker 7: no price gouging. We're making sure that there aren't any
3:16
Speaker 7: scam charities popping up. These things happen in the event,
3:20
Speaker 7: in the aftermath of these kind of events, and so
3:22
Speaker 7: our office is monitoring this stuff closely. But I think
3:26
Speaker 7: more importantly that all the people in those two wildly
3:28
Speaker 7: affected areas need to know that we're here for them,
3:31
Speaker 7: and the Attorney General's office, but most importantly, the Governor's
3:35
Speaker 7: office is on site and ready to assist in every
3:39
Speaker 7: single way that they can.
3:41
Speaker 3: Indeed, before I get there are some other things in
3:44
Speaker 3: the news I want to get to you about, including
3:45
Speaker 3: that big pharmaceutical settlement that was announced yesterday, but something
3:49
Speaker 3: that just kind of pumped up on the radar the
3:51
Speaker 3: last twelve to twenty four hours last week, it was
3:53
Speaker 3: announced JB that by Attorney or i'm sorry, by Governor
3:59
Speaker 3: Patrick Morrison, that June teenth would not be a state
4:04
Speaker 3: holiday for state workers. Course, on Friday is West Virginia Day,
4:07
Speaker 3: This coming Friday is already a state holiday that's in code,
4:10
Speaker 3: but Juneteenth is a federal holiday, and the governor last
4:14
Speaker 3: week announcing that he would not be giving state workers
4:18
Speaker 3: the day off that day he didn't want to give
4:20
Speaker 3: him a four day weekend, and it kind of put
4:23
Speaker 3: I think some of the counties in a strange position.
4:27
Speaker 3: Now we're starting to see that counties and some municipalities
4:31
Speaker 3: I know in Charleston have announced that their offices.
4:33
Speaker 4: Will be closed.
4:34
Speaker 3: Your office was asked to, I guess, kind of way
4:37
Speaker 3: in on the subject. Right in, your office issued a
4:40
Speaker 3: ruling I think it was in Berkeley County.
4:42
Speaker 4: What did that say? What do you want to say
4:44
Speaker 4: about that subject.
4:45
Speaker 7: Well, it's not a ruling, it's an opinion, opinion.
4:47
Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I paying happens.
4:49
Speaker 7: Yeah, it's okay. It's an important distinction. And so a
4:52
Speaker 7: lot of the counties have asked us, what is the
4:55
Speaker 7: nexus between when a federal holiday is on a day
4:58
Speaker 7: when there is not a state holiday, and so in
5:01
Speaker 7: the answer to that question, in our opinion is that
5:04
Speaker 7: state code says that the court rooms of the State
5:06
Speaker 7: of West Virginia follow the federal code, and so if
5:10
Speaker 7: there is a federal holiday, it is our opinion that
5:13
Speaker 7: the court rooms themselves will be closed. And we are
5:16
Speaker 7: working closely with the Supreme Court as they issue guidance
5:20
Speaker 7: on what that means and how that is supposed to
5:22
Speaker 7: be carried out in the courtrooms around the state.
5:25
Speaker 3: And again, as you said, thanks for thanks for pointing
5:28
Speaker 3: out my error there is it was an opinion that
5:31
Speaker 3: was released yesterday.
5:32
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's opinion based on our state code, and our
5:35
Speaker 7: state code indicates and says that federal holidays, the courthouses
5:40
Speaker 7: will be the courtrooms will be closed. And so that
5:43
Speaker 7: is where the confusion came about.
5:45
Speaker 8: And we've been working with a.
5:46
Speaker 7: Lot of counties, not just Berkeley, to give them the
5:48
Speaker 7: guidance and the understanding they need what the law is
5:50
Speaker 7: and what they're supposed to be doing.
5:51
Speaker 3: And the Kenawk Handy Commission President Ben Selanga, with a commission,
5:54
Speaker 3: i should say, issued a statement within the last forty
5:57
Speaker 3: five minutes talking about their offices closed. And the Commissioner
6:01
Speaker 3: Salango will join us a little bit later on the
6:02
Speaker 3: show to talk about that.
6:03
Speaker 7: All right.
6:04
Speaker 3: It was announced yesterday that a settlement has been reached
6:07
Speaker 3: with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family seven
6:10
Speaker 3: point four billion dollars. What does it mean to West Virginia.
6:13
Speaker 7: Sir, it's a big deal and we've talked a little
6:18
Speaker 7: bit about this before, but there will there is no
6:21
Speaker 7: amount of money that can overcome what the Sackler family
6:24
Speaker 7: did to the people of West Virginia. There isn't a
6:26
Speaker 7: monetary number, but a lot of money is always better
6:29
Speaker 7: than none. And we have an amazing foundation set up,
6:32
Speaker 7: like we've talked about with Jonathan Board leading it and
6:34
Speaker 7: so many leaders around the state, and West Virginia will
6:37
Speaker 7: be receiving around fifty five million dollars more for that foundation,
6:42
Speaker 7: and we're going to put it to use, and that
6:44
Speaker 7: money is going to do amazing good in our communities
6:48
Speaker 7: to try to heal some of these wounds, but I
6:50
Speaker 7: think importantly really start to rebuild a lot of the
6:56
Speaker 7: hopefulness that our youth and people have that at the
7:00
Speaker 7: end of the day, if we don't have less people
7:01
Speaker 7: doing drugs in ten years, twenty years, we can't keep
7:06
Speaker 7: up with the treatment. It's too expensive and we just
7:09
Speaker 7: absolutely have to have way less people falling victim to
7:12
Speaker 7: this horrible scourge than we do today. And fifty million
7:16
Speaker 7: dollars a lot of money, and we're very, very hopeful
7:18
Speaker 7: that it's going to do what it's intended to and
7:21
Speaker 7: really start to bring West Virginia up.
7:23
Speaker 3: Talking again with Attorney General Jimmy mccusky to Dave Allen,
7:25
Speaker 3: showing five any line presented apartment by Generations Physical Therapy

7:32
Speaker 3: therapy has never been easier for an appointment three zero four, seven, six,
7:35
Speaker 3: zero fifty six to sixty or visit generationspt dot com.
7:40
Speaker 3: You said that, in reading some of the articles and
7:43
Speaker 3: some of the things that've come out of your office,
7:45
Speaker 3: that you're concerned about the alarming rise in anti Semitic
7:49
Speaker 3: domestic terrorism in the country.
7:51
Speaker 4: Elaborate on that.
7:54
Speaker 7: It is become almost a weekly occurrence. It seems like
8:00
Speaker 7: where something happens where somebody of the Jewish faith is
8:07
Speaker 7: either injured or murdered or made to feel less human
8:13
Speaker 7: than everybody else in the world. And I don't understand
8:17
Speaker 7: where this rise has come from. I didn't grow up
8:19
Speaker 7: that way. I am intensely nervous about where we are
8:26
Speaker 7: in terms of how so many people in this country
8:31
Speaker 7: are incapable of expressing their views in a way that
8:35
Speaker 7: is kind and generous and not treating everyone with the
8:39
Speaker 7: requisite level of respect, regardless of their faith, color, or creed.
8:42
Speaker 7: And so it is just something that's happening, and the
8:46
Speaker 7: Republican Attorney generals of this country are actively working together
8:51
Speaker 7: to ensure that these kinds of things have consequences. Right,
8:56
Speaker 7: if you are going to be a bigot and you
8:58
Speaker 7: are going to act in a way that is bigoted
9:01
Speaker 7: and towards anyone, but in this specific instance, towards people
9:04
Speaker 7: of the Jewish faith, We're not going to stand for that.
9:07
Speaker 7: And we are going to do everything we can to
9:10
Speaker 7: ensure that all Americans get to live with the same
9:12
Speaker 7: freedoms that every that were guaranteed to us. And I
9:15
Speaker 7: think that's really really important. And you know, my mom
9:18
Speaker 7: used to always say actions have consequences, and if you're
9:21
Speaker 7: going to act that way, we feel very very strongly
9:24
Speaker 7: that we should be punishing people that harbor resentment towards
9:28
Speaker 7: Jews based on their faith.
9:30
Speaker 3: It's also said that you're concerned about some of the
9:32
Speaker 3: things you're seeing in California here as of late.
9:35
Speaker 4: Talk about that.
9:36
Speaker 7: I mean, there's just so many things in California that
9:38
Speaker 7: are concerning Dave. And before we get into that, let
9:40
Speaker 7: me just say one last thing about the sass Or settlement. Yeah,
9:43
Speaker 7: so that the you know, I came into this office
9:45
Speaker 7: six months ago and these were all cases that then
9:48
Speaker 7: Attorney General Morrissey was wildly active in, as well as
9:53
Speaker 7: a whole bunch of members of his team and his
9:55
Speaker 7: legal team that he had hired. And this is really
9:58
Speaker 7: the culmination of a lot of work of a lot
9:59
Speaker 7: of peop people. And the people in my office, especially
10:02
Speaker 7: the people that are still there, are just really immensely
10:04
Speaker 7: thankful that we've gotten this to the end of the road.
10:07
Speaker 7: And we're really thankful for all the work for the
10:09
Speaker 7: people that were in the office before us. They did
10:11
Speaker 7: incredible work and we wouldn't be where we were if
10:13
Speaker 7: they hadn't, so I think that needs to be said.
10:17
Speaker 7: The things that we're really nervous about in California are
10:21
Speaker 7: there is an alarming trend where large liberal states are
10:26
Speaker 7: trying to sort of step into the regulatory environment that
10:30
Speaker 7: the federal government generally stands in. And what's happening is
10:32
Speaker 7: is they now see that we have a president who
10:35
Speaker 7: believes in fossil fuels, who believes in carbon fuels, who
10:38
Speaker 7: believes that the future of American energy begins, middles and
10:42
Speaker 7: ends with coal, oil, and gas. And I think any
10:45
Speaker 7: rational person looking at energy policy understands that where we
10:47
Speaker 7: are right now that is just an objective truth. It
10:50
Speaker 7: doesn't mean we shouldn't be working towards alternative fuel sources.
10:53
Speaker 7: It doesn't mean we shouldn't be working towards these things.
10:55
Speaker 7: But we're not there yet, and we can't get there
10:58
Speaker 7: unless those kinds of fuels are used to keep energy
11:01
Speaker 7: prices low, not just for families, but for small business
11:04
Speaker 7: and entrepreneurs. And so California is so big that its
11:09
Speaker 7: regulatory environment affects all the states in the entire country.
11:12
Speaker 7: And so myself and many of my other fellow attorneys
11:15
Speaker 7: general are doing everything we can to ensure that California
11:20
Speaker 7: doesn't go beyond what's its constitutional scope and isn't doing
11:24
Speaker 7: things that harm the economies of the states around them.
11:26
Speaker 3: Attorney General Jamie mccusky, it's always a pleasure to have you.
11:30
Speaker 7: You wouldn't mind show, Yeah, you wouldn't mind to give
11:33
Speaker 7: me thirty more seconds, Yes, sir. They're putting my really
11:37
Speaker 7: good friend Doug to rest today. And we talked about
11:39
Speaker 7: this the other day, and I think it just bears
11:42
Speaker 7: one more moment just to he really was a truly
11:46
Speaker 7: wonderful person. And if we had a lot more Doug
11:49
Speaker 7: scaffs running around the Capitol. I think we'd have a
11:53
Speaker 7: lot better place to be. And he was a kind
11:56
Speaker 7: person who truly cared about everybody in West Virginia and
11:59
Speaker 7: did his life level best to rise everyone's standard of living,
12:03
Speaker 7: to put a smile on kids' faces, to just do
12:07
Speaker 7: the things that make everyone around him happier. And I
12:12
Speaker 7: don't know, I'm just really going to miss him. He
12:15
Speaker 7: was a great friend, a great dad, a great husband,
12:18
Speaker 7: and it's just such a tragedy and my heart just
12:21
Speaker 7: breaks for everyone in the scaff family.
12:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, I was at the service last night, Attorney General,
12:27
Speaker 3: and I got in line because it started at four
12:30
Speaker 3: at the Culture Center. I left the station, went straight
12:33
Speaker 3: there and was in line at three point fifty yesterday afternoon,
12:37
Speaker 3: standing with a couple of friends of mine, and I
12:39
Speaker 3: think we finally got into the building about six fifteen
12:42
Speaker 3: or six thirty last night.
12:44
Speaker 7: Well, and what a testament to the life that Doug has,
12:46
Speaker 7: I mean, and I'm sure they and there were people
12:49
Speaker 7: there from every walk of life, from every political party.
12:52
Speaker 7: There were people there that worked for Doug. There were
12:53
Speaker 7: people there that worked around Doug. There were other parents
12:56
Speaker 7: whose kids played soccer with Doug's kids, there were it is.
13:00
Speaker 7: He was a larger than life figure and he had
13:04
Speaker 7: a million friends because people like him do.
13:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, And thoughts and prayers continue to his family because
13:09
Speaker 3: as you know, you've you've you've had loss.
13:11
Speaker 4: In your family, just as I have.
13:13
Speaker 3: You know, it's one thing when everybody is together and
13:17
Speaker 3: everybody's talking about, you know, what a great person the
13:20
Speaker 3: departed was. But then the weeks and the days afterwards,
13:23
Speaker 3: when the rooms go silent in your home, that's when
13:25
Speaker 3: they really really need your thoughts and prayers, in my opinion,
13:28
Speaker 3: because I have, I've gone through it, and I know
13:30
Speaker 3: you have two Attorney general Yeah, Attorney General Jimmy mccusey
13:35
Speaker 3: pray and they know absolutely.

17:13
Speaker 3: Gonock a hand the commission President of Bensulango Will joined
17:15
Speaker 3: us a little bit later on the show. Stephen Allen
17:17
Speaker 3: Adams from Ogden Newspapers is here. Steven, good morning, Welcome
17:20
Speaker 3: to the show. And I'll kind of pick up with
17:23
Speaker 3: where Attorney General McCuskey left off last night, because I
17:26
Speaker 3: saw you and your lovely wife Jessica last night off
17:28
Speaker 3: in the distance at that gathering for Doug scaff at
17:31
Speaker 3: the Culture Center. I mean, I've never I've never seen
17:38
Speaker 3: a gathering like that. Now I was with I was
17:40
Speaker 3: in line with Brian Dayton from the good friend of
17:43
Speaker 3: mine from the Chamber of Commerce, and he said that
17:45
Speaker 3: the Archmore service he attended that I did not was
17:49
Speaker 3: similar to that. I mean, I estimated on social media,
17:53
Speaker 3: I said a thousand, and people said, you're stupid, Dave.
17:56
Speaker 3: There was a lot more than a thousand people there
17:58
Speaker 3: last night. Oh for sure.
18:00
Speaker 12: I've only seen two funerals similar to that, or memorial
18:04
Speaker 12: services or what have you. One would have been the
18:09
Speaker 12: pomp and circumstance for the death of former US Enator
18:12
Speaker 12: Robert C. Bird, you know, fifteen years ago. The other
18:15
Speaker 12: was for General Chuck Yeager over at the Coliseum. Those
18:22
Speaker 12: are the biggest ones I've seen. This is now in
18:25
Speaker 12: the top three of those. I have never seen anything
18:28
Speaker 12: like that. My wife and I arrived at five. I
18:32
Speaker 12: don't think we got inside the doors till about seven thirty,
18:35
Speaker 12: just in time for the little service that they did.
18:39
Speaker 12: His wife spoke and there was a sort of a
18:43
Speaker 12: Greek Orthodox thing and a singing of country roads as
18:46
Speaker 12: you expect for status exactly. Also some eat you know
18:52
Speaker 12: what pit at the end, so.
18:56
Speaker 8: Everything.
18:57
Speaker 12: Doug would have really really loved. I think he would
19:00
Speaker 12: have been tickled to know that he touched so many people.
19:03
Speaker 4: I think he would have been.
19:05
Speaker 12: Very touched by the fact it was by partisan so
19:07
Speaker 12: many Republicans and Democrats. They're people of all walks of life.
19:11
Speaker 12: It was huge, huge, but bas think I've.
19:14
Speaker 3: Seen Coach Huggins was there last night, among other people.
19:18
Speaker 3: He was one of the when I first got there.
19:20
Speaker 3: That's because Huggins just kind of has that that larger
19:23
Speaker 3: than like of personna, and he was one of the
19:25
Speaker 3: first people that I saw when I walked in. As
19:27
Speaker 3: I said, I was there. It's even at Tendall four yesterday,
19:32
Speaker 3: and I thought, well, I'm you know, I'm not gonna
19:34
Speaker 3: wait till like most people are going to go when
19:36
Speaker 3: I get off work. I was last night seen on
19:38
Speaker 3: social media people after the service that were there like
19:41
Speaker 3: nine thirty, ten o'clock or so. I mean, it's a
19:43
Speaker 3: testament to the life of Doug Scatt yeare in. US
19:46
Speaker 3: Senator Joe Manchin was there in many ways. I mean,
19:49
Speaker 3: scaff was sort of considered considered at least there for
19:52
Speaker 3: a time. The air apparently away to Joe Mansion. I
19:55
Speaker 3: think people had seen him at one point. It's probably
19:57
Speaker 3: being on track to be the next governor of the
20:00
Speaker 3: He had already announced he was going to run for
20:01
Speaker 3: state Senate. Yeah, in the next election.
20:03
Speaker 12: As a Republican. He was having a new career in
20:05
Speaker 12: Republican politics. So it kind of lost for the Secretary
20:08
Speaker 12: of State thing. But I mean he was always a
20:10
Speaker 12: moderate Democrat anyway, he was more Republican on economic isasions, right,
20:14
Speaker 12: But yeah.
20:15
Speaker 3: Well, I want to talk about quickly the flooding situation
20:18
Speaker 3: up north. We're hearing now seventh person may have died,
20:21
Speaker 3: just terriball around. And I know you know that area
20:24
Speaker 3: because you're a state wide reporter. You cover that area
20:26
Speaker 3: very well. You've got you got papers, you know in
20:28
Speaker 3: the in the Wheeling area. Your thoughts on all that,
20:31
Speaker 3: because it's just devastating.
20:32
Speaker 12: Man, all devastating, and I'm always you know, I'm seeing
20:35
Speaker 12: some of the things now. I know the Democratic Caucus
20:37
Speaker 12: in the House are obviously saying, hey, we tried to
20:39
Speaker 12: put some money aside for flood mitigation, and the Republican
20:44
Speaker 12: sent backed it up, which is true.
20:46
Speaker 4: But also I.
20:48
Speaker 12: Don't know what you can really do. And I'm I'm
20:51
Speaker 12: one the one, one of the ones that writes about
20:53
Speaker 12: flood mitigation and the need for that all the time.
20:55
Speaker 12: We need to be proactive versus always reacting. But at
20:58
Speaker 12: the same time, when you're talking about four to five
21:00
Speaker 12: inches of the rain in a thirty minute period and
21:03
Speaker 12: a small area, yeah, there's nothing, nothing you could do
21:06
Speaker 12: about that that would overwhelm any mitigation that you would
21:09
Speaker 12: have done.
21:10
Speaker 4: So truly a tragedy. You're right.
21:12
Speaker 12: As of this morning, I think the governor Governor Morrissey
21:15
Speaker 12: just officially now confirmed seventh death tied to this, that
21:19
Speaker 12: they're starting to release some of the names. There are
21:21
Speaker 12: I think maybe two people now that are still missing
21:25
Speaker 12: that they're still doing search and rescue for. So absolutely tragic.
21:29
Speaker 12: Marion County also got hit on as bad. But of
21:31
Speaker 12: course you've seen the crazy picture of the apartment building.
21:34
Speaker 12: Justable literally was getting it from both ends. Water from
21:38
Speaker 12: the rain from the top, floodwaters underneath, and just.
21:41
Speaker 4: I mean, I can't imagine.
21:42
Speaker 3: And I saw an interview on thirteen News this morning
21:44
Speaker 3: with some of those people there.
21:46
Speaker 4: I can't imagine, Stephen.
21:47
Speaker 3: I mean, floodwaters are one thing, and we've all, you know,
21:50
Speaker 3: most people have probably undergone something like that. You can
21:53
Speaker 3: see the water rising, you say, okay, I need to leave.
21:56
Speaker 3: But when you're in a building and that's and you're
21:59
Speaker 3: seeing that, you say, the water all around, the water coming,
22:01
Speaker 3: I just can't imagine what that is like. Of course,
22:04
Speaker 3: TJ and Dave will have more on the coverage coming
22:07
Speaker 3: up at ten o'clock and Amanda and I will on
22:09
Speaker 3: Metro News midday as well. I will say this about
22:11
Speaker 3: Governor Morrissey. There are a lot of critics of various
22:14
Speaker 3: things of any governor, no matter who the governor is.
22:16
Speaker 3: One thing that you cannot and somebody pointed this out
22:18
Speaker 3: on the text line yesterday Steven on the midday show.
22:21
Speaker 4: You can't see.
22:22
Speaker 3: He can't say he hasn't showed up because he has.
22:24
Speaker 3: He was there on Sunday, he was there yesterday. I
22:27
Speaker 3: would imagine, I don't know what his schedule with Today's
22:29
Speaker 3: probably there today if not. He's keeping a close eye
22:32
Speaker 3: on the situation. He's on the ground.
22:34
Speaker 12: Yeah, he is boots on the ground. He gets there
22:37
Speaker 12: with his Adjutant General from the National Guard, James Seward.
22:41
Speaker 12: You've got Interim Homeland Security Secretary Doug Buffington that's been
22:45
Speaker 12: on the ground. I mean they are literally on the ground,
22:48
Speaker 12: and they don't waste time. They don't do press conferences
22:52
Speaker 12: down here, they don't do little things saying well, you know,
22:55
Speaker 12: this is a state of mountainous terrain and rain flews downhill.
22:58
Speaker 12: That's the thing that the former goyor Justice used.
23:00
Speaker 4: To sort too.
23:01
Speaker 12: I mean, he's being very proactive on the ground, making
23:05
Speaker 12: sure things are moving, making sure resources are moving to
23:08
Speaker 12: where they need to be. And I do think based
23:12
Speaker 12: on what he said at his press conference in Marion
23:15
Speaker 12: County yesterday, I do think he's now kind of serious.
23:18
Speaker 12: This is his third state of emergency for FLEGD. You've
23:20
Speaker 12: got the thirteen county southern West Virginia flood in February.
23:23
Speaker 12: You've got Mineral County in May that was under state
23:26
Speaker 12: emergency for their flow reigning floods. Now you have this.
23:29
Speaker 12: I think he's serious about trying to get some sort
23:33
Speaker 12: of flood mitigation to try to proactively deal with this.
23:37
Speaker 12: But of course we're just at the sea.
23:39
Speaker 3: But Dave Allan Chowing five Adieline brought to you a
23:40
Speaker 3: part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
23:43
Speaker 3: Birds begin the series at Southern Maryland tonight. For tickets,
23:46
Speaker 3: promotion schedules, merchandise and more, visit dirty Birds Baseball dot com.
23:49
Speaker 3: Let's battle over Juneteenth, Governor Morrissey said it would not
23:54
Speaker 3: be a day offer state workers, despite the fact that
23:56
Speaker 3: it is a federal holiday. Wester Virginia state workers already
24:00
Speaker 3: a Friday off in code, you know, for West Virginia
24:02
Speaker 3: Day and Stephen, I've said from the very beginning that
24:05
Speaker 3: a lot of state workers are going to take Thursday
24:06
Speaker 3: off anyway, and and so good luck trying to get
24:10
Speaker 3: anything done in a governmental office on Thursday.
24:12
Speaker 4: Anyway.
24:13
Speaker 3: Yesterday, as we said, and we just talked to Attorney
24:15
Speaker 3: General mccusky to the AG's office issued uh an opinion
24:20
Speaker 3: as it pertained to Berkeley County. There are several, as
24:22
Speaker 3: he pointed out, several other counties that were asked I
24:25
Speaker 3: guess for opinions on this situation, Kanawh County following suit,
24:28
Speaker 3: and as I said, Kennaugh County Commission President Bensulango is
24:33
Speaker 3: going to join us in the next segment where where
24:36
Speaker 3: we're where are you on all of this? As it
24:38
Speaker 3: as a as a journalist, I mean, this statement came
24:41
Speaker 3: out from Governor Morrissey on I guess.
24:44
Speaker 4: Uh Friday.
24:46
Speaker 3: I think yeah, because there were two there were two
24:48
Speaker 3: kind of controversial things in my opinion, that came out
24:51
Speaker 3: of the Governor's office on Friday. You had this, but
24:53
Speaker 3: then also you had about the no King's Rally that
24:57
Speaker 3: we were putting, you know, the National Guard on stand
25:00
Speaker 3: by which it's I mean, is really going to happen
25:03
Speaker 3: in West Virginia? I mean, are you really concerned about
25:05
Speaker 3: but anyway, so kind of weighing on.
25:07
Speaker 4: Both of those.
25:08
Speaker 13: Yeah.
25:08
Speaker 4: Absolutely.
25:09
Speaker 12: In regards to Juneteenth, I thought that statement was a
25:11
Speaker 12: little weird, not just for saying we're not going to
25:14
Speaker 12: give state employees the paid day off. I mean, they
25:18
Speaker 12: can do that, I guess, but I don't know why
25:20
Speaker 12: you would do it now that it is a federal holiday.
25:22
Speaker 12: If President Trump somehow rescinds that, and I'm not even
25:25
Speaker 12: highly sure how it works, because I think.
25:26
Speaker 4: That's stunt their congressional approval.
25:28
Speaker 12: But I have to look. But that hasn't stopped President
25:30
Speaker 12: Trump before. But that hasn't happened, So it's interesting that
25:35
Speaker 12: the governor would take that tack, but also basically use
25:38
Speaker 12: the excuse of the state's fiscal condition, which at least
25:42
Speaker 12: as of right now isn't bad. We're going to end
25:46
Speaker 12: the fiscal year in the black. I mean, most of
25:49
Speaker 12: that money's already spoken for it. We're going to have
25:51
Speaker 12: for surplus. It's already been kind of appropriated. But we're
25:54
Speaker 12: still going to end I think maybe with around ten million,
25:57
Speaker 12: depending on how this month works out. Give stay employees
26:01
Speaker 12: a payday off, you know, the price of that's kind
26:04
Speaker 12: of negligible at that point, it's not that big of
26:07
Speaker 12: a deal. So blaming that and using as the excuse
26:10
Speaker 12: is just kind of weird to me. In regards to
26:13
Speaker 12: the other situation that you're talking about with the protest
26:16
Speaker 12: and saying that you're going to put the National Guard
26:18
Speaker 12: on all alert in case anything happens, my reaction is
26:22
Speaker 12: that's kind of spoken like somebody that hasn't witnessed a
26:25
Speaker 12: liberal progressive protest in this state before. If anyone knows
26:30
Speaker 12: the name Betty Rivard, who's I'm not going to age her,
26:33
Speaker 12: but she's an older, older.
26:36
Speaker 3: Lady Colin normally in the gazette mail on Saturday or
26:40
Speaker 3: on the weekend of the day.
26:41
Speaker 12: She's not known to do a full rager and start
26:43
Speaker 12: throwing bricks and then lighting bushes on fire. That doesn't
26:47
Speaker 12: really happen with these protests. They're usually pretty calm, pretty safe,
26:52
Speaker 12: and that's the way Saturday was here at the capitol
26:54
Speaker 12: and around the state. It was all very calm. And
26:58
Speaker 12: let's be honest, he'd look at the news, what's going
27:00
Speaker 12: on in La even what you see in LA. We
27:04
Speaker 12: say LA because that's the point of reference. It's a
27:07
Speaker 12: small area inside La County.
27:09
Speaker 3: I've got friends and I've talked about them on the
27:11
Speaker 3: Midday Show. I've got a married couple friend of mine
27:14
Speaker 3: from here in Charleston, and they they're constantly putting out
27:18
Speaker 3: on social media. Folks, this is not all of California.
27:21
Speaker 3: When you say California doesn't make it, I mean, you know,
27:24
Speaker 3: I mean it's not right. But this is not like
27:26
Speaker 3: the entire They're not They're not setting fires on Rodeo,
27:30
Speaker 3: you know, or Beverly Hills or even where you know exactly.
27:33
Speaker 4: A well go on.
27:35
Speaker 12: In short though, back to West Virginia, I think a
27:38
Speaker 12: lot of these statements, I don't think you have to
27:41
Speaker 12: play to a base. At this point. You're the governor
27:43
Speaker 12: at the state of West Virginia. You won the election,
27:45
Speaker 12: You're already there. So who are you playing to, Like,
27:49
Speaker 12: what what is the point of doing that other than
27:52
Speaker 12: to play to a political base that say, yeah, great,
27:55
Speaker 12: we won't celebrate Juneteenth, or yeah great we had a
27:58
Speaker 12: national Guard in case something happened.
28:01
Speaker 4: It's really kind of a necessary Yeah, I would agree.
28:04
Speaker 3: With that, but Dave Allen showing five any Line broad Too,

28:16
Speaker 3: What else do you take a look at today?
28:18
Speaker 12: Well, I am beginning to do a little bit of
28:21
Speaker 12: a look into a very controversial topic in regards to
28:25
Speaker 12: incidents involving teachers and inappropriate behavior with students, whether you're
28:31
Speaker 12: talking about relationships, whether you're talking about inappropriate sexual contact.
28:35
Speaker 12: I'm trying to figure out how often this happens and
28:39
Speaker 12: how much how often these incidents are reported. So the
28:44
Speaker 12: State Department's credit, they have a pretty good database on
28:47
Speaker 12: these type of incidents reported from counties. So I'm kind
28:51
Speaker 12: of taking a deep dive into that and looking into that.
28:55
Speaker 12: But I mean, of course, you know, we're getting into
28:58
Speaker 12: West Virginia Day at the end of this week, so
29:00
Speaker 12: it'll be interesting to see what the state does for that.
29:02
Speaker 12: It looks like the little two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
29:06
Speaker 12: park that's right beside the Culture Centers getting ready. I
29:08
Speaker 12: think maybe to officially open here soon.
29:10
Speaker 3: You know, I hadn't been on the Capitol grounds since
29:13
Speaker 3: the session ended, and as I was leaving the scaff
29:16
Speaker 3: service last night, I looked over at that and I
29:19
Speaker 3: guess I had was just totally ignorant. I didn't even
29:22
Speaker 3: realize that was like, it's coming along quite nicely, what
29:24
Speaker 3: they're doing there.
29:25
Speaker 12: It's taken a while. I think they finally rushed in
29:27
Speaker 12: the last few weeks because I felt like they were
29:29
Speaker 12: taking their time for forever. But there's going to be
29:32
Speaker 12: a nice little walking path there. There's some history. There's
29:35
Speaker 12: some old I think steam engines there right going down
29:40
Speaker 12: in the Culture Centator's waterfall. Yeah, that'll be that's what
29:43
Speaker 12: history items. They're kind of detailing the history of the state.
29:48
Speaker 12: And it's all part of two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
29:51
Speaker 12: of the nation that's coming up, and that's our contribution
29:55
Speaker 12: to it. So I think once they get it complete,
29:57
Speaker 12: it should be pretty nice, all.
29:59
Speaker 3: Right, people where they can catch your stuff.
30:01
Speaker 13: Yeah.

Speaker 3: Good morning, sir, Welcome.
33:47
Speaker 4: To the show.
33:49
Speaker 13: Thanks Dave, good morning.
33:50
Speaker 3: How are you doing fine? So this whole thing on
33:52
Speaker 3: the federal holiday. The governor last week saying state workers
33:56
Speaker 3: would not be given the day off for June teen,
34:00
Speaker 3: since West Virginia is the next West Virginia Day rather
34:03
Speaker 3: is the next day. Governor did not want workers to
34:05
Speaker 3: have a four day weekend. Seems like most counties and
34:09
Speaker 3: cities are now taking I guess commissioner matters into their
34:12
Speaker 3: own hands.
34:13
Speaker 4: Is that a fair assessment?
34:15
Speaker 13: Well, you know what it's. It's what this has done
34:18
Speaker 13: is caused an administrative nightmare for county commissions all over
34:22
Speaker 13: the state. And that's not to be critical of Governor Morsey.
34:26
Speaker 13: He has the absolute right and authority to pick state holidays.
34:31
Speaker 13: You know that already aren't included in state code. But
34:34
Speaker 13: what the problem is is you've got the county commissions
34:38
Speaker 13: that have to recognize federal holidays. So in this instance,
34:42
Speaker 13: we initially closed just the County Commission building, which would
34:47
Speaker 13: be the clerk's office and the County commission office fiduciary
34:51
Speaker 13: of those things. Yesterday, Attorney General JB. Mccusky correctly pointed
34:57
Speaker 13: out that county commissions all over the state have a
35:00
Speaker 13: under Westernia Code to recognize federal holidays, and the county
35:03
Speaker 13: commissions control the judicial buildings too, so the judicial annexes
35:07
Speaker 13: in addition to the courthouse where the commission sets. So
35:11
Speaker 13: in a lot of counties, the county commission and the
35:14
Speaker 13: course have one building. In several counties they're actually in
35:18
Speaker 13: different buildings. So what we had to do this morning
35:20
Speaker 13: was issue a press release also closing the Judicial anex.
35:25
Speaker 13: The reason that's an administrative nightmare is because you've got
35:29
Speaker 13: state workers who do not have the day off, but
35:32
Speaker 13: literally have nowhere to go, like they cannot go to
35:35
Speaker 13: the Judicial anax. And you know, the county workers do
35:38
Speaker 13: have the day off. We do that at the beginning
35:41
Speaker 13: because we are acknowledging the federal holidays, and the very
35:46
Speaker 13: first meeting that we have in the year, what we
35:48
Speaker 13: call the administrative meeting, we set the days that the
35:51
Speaker 13: county employees have off. Anytime historically, when the governor will
35:55
Speaker 13: give state workers a day off in addition to the
35:59
Speaker 13: recognized holiday, we have always followed suit out of respect
36:04
Speaker 13: to not just our workforce, but also out of respect
36:08
Speaker 13: to the governor and so, but this is a very
36:10
Speaker 13: interesting issue where you have state workers who do not
36:15
Speaker 13: have a day off and county buildings, including a judicial annex,
36:20
Speaker 13: which are closed. So I don't know if they go
36:22
Speaker 13: hang out in the parking lot. I'm not sure exactly
36:24
Speaker 13: what happened.
36:24
Speaker 3: Well in this era, as you know, and again we're
36:27
Speaker 3: talking to kennawk Aunty, Commission President of Nsulanga Bean. As
36:30
Speaker 3: you know, we live in an era when a lot
36:31
Speaker 3: of people could do a lot of work from home,
36:33
Speaker 3: and even as my my time as a state worker,
36:36
Speaker 3: there were a lot of things.
36:37
Speaker 4: You could do from home.
36:39
Speaker 3: But I don't know that the work of a county clerk,
36:41
Speaker 3: for example, or are you know, an assessor, I don't
36:44
Speaker 3: I don't know how much of that you can actually
36:46
Speaker 3: do from a home. And then, as you said, you
36:48
Speaker 3: get into this whole kind of you know, this as
36:51
Speaker 3: you called it a nightmare, which is what it could be,
36:53
Speaker 3: because well, I mean, it's a day off from work.
36:57
Speaker 4: My office is closed, but yet you want me to.
36:59
Speaker 3: Work, you know. And as you said, where do they go?
37:02
Speaker 3: I mean, does everybody meet it sheets or war wide?
37:06
Speaker 13: Well that's actually a pretty good approach. Maybe they do.
37:09
Speaker 13: But the I think it does create an administrative issue,
37:12
Speaker 13: and I think the Western Spring Court is going to
37:15
Speaker 13: have to weigh in as well, because you know, most
37:17
Speaker 13: of the employees in the judicial annects are employees of
37:21
Speaker 13: the Western Supreme Court. But we control the building and
37:25
Speaker 13: we have no discretion. As Attorney General mccusky pointed out
37:29
Speaker 13: in his memo yesterday, county commissions do not have the
37:33
Speaker 13: discretion as to whether or not we recognize federal holidays.
37:38
Speaker 13: We are required by state code to do that, and
37:40
Speaker 13: so that's what we've done this morning is issued at
37:43
Speaker 13: a press relief that the judicial annex will be closed.
37:47
Speaker 4: Were you surprised we'll have some.
37:49
Speaker 7: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
37:50
Speaker 4: No, I'm just going to say we used.
37:51
Speaker 13: To have some guidance from the governor or from the
37:53
Speaker 13: Western Supreme Court as to what those employees are supposed
37:55
Speaker 13: to do. You know, there's we have until Thursday, so
37:58
Speaker 13: hopefully they'll they'll issue something.
38:00
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, but it's it's and I understand completely
38:03
Speaker 3: what you're saying. You have util Thursday, but if you're
38:04
Speaker 3: a parent, uh, and you're thinking about you know, childcare
38:09
Speaker 3: and things, because it's you know, it's the schools out.
38:11
Speaker 3: Unless you're like me and had to go to summer
38:12
Speaker 3: school schools out, So you know that's that's going to
38:17
Speaker 3: create some of the problems. We've got a text here
38:19
Speaker 3: to the show. It says, uh, if you want the
38:21
Speaker 3: state to have Juneteenth as a holiday, pass it in
38:24
Speaker 3: the legislature.
38:25
Speaker 4: Well that do I mean, what would that do? If anything?
38:28
Speaker 13: I think they could do that. I think that would
38:31
Speaker 13: probably take a lot of political courage, But I think
38:34
Speaker 13: typically what you saw was the governor doing it in
38:39
Speaker 13: the past. Now the problem is when the governor has that,
38:43
Speaker 13: that just affects state employees. The Count of Commission does
38:46
Speaker 13: not have the luxury, if you will, or the authority
38:50
Speaker 13: to pick and choose which holidays we recognize. We're required
38:53
Speaker 13: by code to recognize certain holidays, including all federal holidays,
38:58
Speaker 13: and Juneteenth has been a federal holiday, I think now
39:00
Speaker 13: for four years. So we have to close our buildings,
39:05
Speaker 13: which would include the judicial annex, and we've got so
39:08
Speaker 13: I think there's some you know, they're just some the ambiguity,
39:12
Speaker 13: some confusion, some uncertainty that I think needs clarified well.
39:16
Speaker 3: And another text here says, so what if you need
39:18
Speaker 3: to go to the DMV and the only day you
39:21
Speaker 3: can make it is Thursday, but it's closed all the
39:23
Speaker 3: way through the following Monday. As a taxpayer, yes, I'm
39:26
Speaker 3: going to be angry because I can't get done what
39:27
Speaker 3: I legally need to do. But if it's I mean,
39:31
Speaker 3: I understand, I understand completely.
39:32
Speaker 13: V will be open. I think dm V will be
39:34
Speaker 13: open on Thursday because it's a state right agency, right right,
39:39
Speaker 13: and so those workers will be there probably with frowns
39:41
Speaker 13: on their face.
39:42
Speaker 4: Well, but I think I mean, and Ben, I'm gonna
39:44
Speaker 4: be honest with you.
39:45
Speaker 3: As Steven Adams and I were talking about earlier, I
39:47
Speaker 3: think most workers are going to take the day off anyway.
39:49
Speaker 3: I mean, And here's the thing about it, And this
39:51
Speaker 3: is where I am, and this is my opinion. The
39:53
Speaker 3: opinion is only mine and not that commissioner Sielanka. You know,
39:57
Speaker 3: I was having a conversation with somebody earlier today, somebody
40:00
Speaker 3: in the media world, and they were talking. They said, well,
40:03
Speaker 3: for these county commissions, maybe in a redder area than
40:07
Speaker 3: what Kanawha County is, is do you appear to be
40:10
Speaker 3: quote unquote woke? You know, that's the that's the evil word.
40:14
Speaker 3: By by making this a holiday, my assertion is on
40:18
Speaker 3: that to be honest with you, and you don't have
40:19
Speaker 3: to wait in this if you don't want to. I
40:20
Speaker 3: don't think most people care one way or the other.
40:22
Speaker 3: They just want a day off, you know. I mean,
40:25
Speaker 3: I'll be honest with you.
40:27
Speaker 13: Here's here's the here's the absolute truth. It's not about
40:31
Speaker 13: being woke. It's about actually following the law. And county commissions,
40:34
Speaker 13: all fifty five of them, all over the state are
40:37
Speaker 13: required to close their buildings on federal holidays, and as
40:41
Speaker 13: the Attorney General correctly pointed out, it doesn't mean that
40:44
Speaker 13: Governor Morsey is wrong. In fact, he has the after
40:47
Speaker 13: discretion to do what he's doing, and I respect I
40:50
Speaker 13: respect him, But I think what the Attorney General pointed
40:54
Speaker 13: out is county commissions do not have that luxury. We
40:57
Speaker 13: do not have any discretion whatsoever. And so it's not
41:00
Speaker 13: about commissions appearing woke, it's about them following to the law.
41:05
Speaker 3: I'll be working, I'll be working West Virginia Day. And
41:07
Speaker 3: in my radio career, I've worked a whole lot of
41:09
Speaker 3: Christmas mornings and New Year's even Thanksgivings too, But that's
41:12
Speaker 3: just part of being in the media.
41:13
Speaker 4: So there you go.
41:13
Speaker 3: And as a county commissioner, you three in Kannaw County
41:16
Speaker 3: are never really off anyway, right, Well.
41:19
Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean that just comes with the you understand
41:22
Speaker 13: that when you run for office that there are truly
41:24
Speaker 13: no days off. But you know, I'm glad that the
41:28
Speaker 13: County commission employees and the county employees will be able
41:31
Speaker 13: to take the day off and then also followed by
41:33
Speaker 13: West Virginia Day. So to give them, you know, the
41:35
Speaker 13: long weekend. I suspect many of them want to use
41:38
Speaker 13: PTO anywhere.
41:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's we can. That's kind of what I said.
41:41
Speaker 3: In the City of Charleston, I think made the announcement.
41:43
Speaker 3: I think maybe at the at city council meeting last
41:46
Speaker 3: night that their offices will be closed as well. Kanawha
41:49

Speaker 3: three o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Rick Cavetor from Charleston Urban
46:45
Speaker 3: Works is going to be here to talk about that.
46:46
Speaker 3: Plus Millie Snyder will be on the show tomorrow as well,
46:50
Speaker 3: and uh talking about Juneteenth. One of my favorite people,
46:54
Speaker 3: Chef Key's gonna stop by the studio tomorrow as well.
46:57
Speaker 3: That's on tomorrow show thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor
46:59
Speaker 3: Amanda Bear and me coming up with Metro News midday.
47:01
Speaker 3: Later today, we'll continue the coverage of the devastating flooding
47:05
Speaker 3: in Ohio and Marin counties. Yesterday we had on State
47:07
Speaker 3: Senator Ryan Weld and he actually had to cut our
47:10
Speaker 3: interviews short because he was with the Wheeling Fire Department
47:12
Speaker 3: and they got called out on an emergency. Literally, I've
47:16
Speaker 3: had some odd I've had interviews cut short in my
47:19
Speaker 3: radio career, but I think that was the first time
47:21
Speaker 3: I've ever had anybody, especially a state senator. He and
47:25
Speaker 3: I texted about it later, saying, Hey, Dave, gotta go
47:28
Speaker 3: click and it happens.
47:31
Speaker 4: It happens.
47:31
Speaker 3: I mean, I understand one percent. And so he's gonna
47:34
Speaker 3: be back on the show today. Also, Brian Dayton from
47:38
Speaker 3: State Chamber of Commerce is going to be stopping by
47:40
Speaker 3: and not all companies are upset about tariffs, and we're
47:43
Speaker 3: going to get an opinion on a few of those
47:45
Speaker 3: from Brian Dayton from State Chamber. Coming up a little
47:47
Speaker 3: bit later on Metro News Midday with thirteen News Tonight
47:50
Speaker 3: Live anchor Amanda Bear and Me coming up at noon
47:52
Speaker 3: today on Metro News. On this so many other Metro
47:55
Speaker 3: News stations powered by a Selango Law. The Dave Islands
47:58
Speaker 3: showing five any Live is bron two parted by Pitical Consultants.
48:01
Speaker 3: Pinnacle offers a four phase assessment for your properties, inspection, sampling,
48:04
Speaker 3: that analysis, comprehensive reporting and management planning. Visit Pinnacle Court
48:08
Speaker 3: dot net because what you don't know can hurt you.
48:11
Speaker 3: This whole thing on Juneteenth, though, I think is very
48:14
Speaker 3: very interesting. Again Friday, the governor comes out and announces
48:18
Speaker 3: that it would not be a day off, and immediately
48:21
Speaker 3: I thought, well, they're gonna take the day off anyway.
48:23
Speaker 3: I mean, they got pto get an ungodly amount of
48:26
Speaker 3: time off. As a state employee. Not hating on them,
48:28
Speaker 3: I used to be one. I know, at the end
48:30
Speaker 3: of the year, I had all these days left over
48:33
Speaker 3: and thinking what am I going to do with them?
48:35
Speaker 3: You know, and you do get a lot of time off.
48:39
Speaker 3: That's what many people are going to do. That's what
48:40
Speaker 3: many people in state government do on the If Friday
48:45
Speaker 3: was a day offer on a long weekend on Monday,
48:47
Speaker 3: many will take the Friday off or they'll take Tuesday off.
48:50
Speaker 3: So again, if you got in one of the offices
48:52
Speaker 3: that is going to be open, as Commissioner Silango and
48:55
Speaker 3: I talked about, good luck getting some things done on
48:58
Speaker 3: Thursday or Friday, because it's it's it's gonna be very
49:02
Speaker 3: very very difficult.
49:03
Speaker 4: Indeed, TJ. Meadows is with us right now. How are you, sir?
49:08
Speaker 19: I got to learn to pay attention when you come
49:10
Speaker 19: to me. Sorry, it's all right, you're busy man. It's
49:13
Speaker 19: not like you're said, multitask here. I mean of what
49:15
Speaker 19: you don't know about TJ.
49:16
Speaker 4: Meadows. He constantly has a phone in his hand.
49:20
Speaker 3: Yes, and he's not on TikTok uh and he's constantly
49:23
Speaker 3: got a laptop.
49:24
Speaker 4: His phone's constantly ringing you. It's kind of like.
49:27
Speaker 3: When they do these promos for and the one that
49:30
Speaker 3: comes to mind is Margaret Brennan on on CBS when
49:33
Speaker 3: it shows her walking down the street on the phone,
49:35
Speaker 3: because it's going to show that she's important. When then
49:38
Speaker 3: I ideally she could be doing door dash for all
49:40
Speaker 3: we know. You know, I mean, are calling it, you know,
49:42
Speaker 3: I mean, you don't know what she's doing. But it's
49:45
Speaker 3: very If you walk briskly and you carry a phone,
49:48
Speaker 3: people think you're very important, and you are very important.
49:50
Speaker 18: No I'm not.
49:50
Speaker 19: I'm not important at all, and that's fine. I just
49:53
Speaker 19: try to stay on top of what's going on, and
49:54
Speaker 19: things change in our world so quickly.
49:56
Speaker 4: I mean, look, I could do show prep last night.
49:58
Speaker 19: Which I did, I did this morning, and when I
50:00
Speaker 19: wake up at five o'clock, I did I do.
50:03
Speaker 3: I do quite a bit of prep on certain things
50:06
Speaker 3: the night before. But then the whole thing came out
50:09
Speaker 3: on the June Team thing and the opinion that was
50:12
Speaker 3: given by the Attorney General's office. I already had Attorney
50:14
Speaker 3: General McCuskey scheduled to be on the show today anyway,
50:18
Speaker 3: so I had to kind of pivot, you know, away
50:21
Speaker 3: from that. And then I had did not have Commissioner
50:24
Speaker 3: Solango scheduled to be on the show. But when I
50:26
Speaker 3: saw this came out, you know, we kind of talked
50:29
Speaker 3: and said, well, he probably needs to come on. So yeah,
50:31
Speaker 3: there's a lot that goes into these little so those
50:34
Speaker 3: little radio exhibitions that we do.
50:36
Speaker 19: Having subbed for Hobby for a number of years, for
50:38
Speaker 19: like a week at a time, I know that it's
50:40
Speaker 19: it's difficult. I actually one of the reasons I took
50:44
Speaker 19: this job was to step back. I was working sixty
50:46
Speaker 19: five seventy hours a week. I have a young family.
50:48
Speaker 19: I didn't want to do that anymore. So I kind
50:49
Speaker 19: of say I semi retired from the corporate world. I
50:52
Speaker 19: knew this would be a lot. I don't know that
50:54
Speaker 19: I appreciated how much it would be. All the time.
50:57
Speaker 19: You're never off.
50:59
Speaker 4: So when Hobby was doing talk, what time did he
51:01
Speaker 4: get in the building?
51:02
Speaker 19: It was like, no, Well, earlier in his career, I
51:06
Speaker 19: mean he would get there at four o'clock. He got
51:09
Speaker 19: up at three thirty in the morning and start, you know,
51:12
Speaker 19: he started getting up every morning. I think he said
51:14
Speaker 19: at five twenty four. I don't know, five twenty four. Yeah,
51:17
Speaker 19: and then it's a short drive to the office, so
51:18
Speaker 19: I think he's there six fifteen or something. I do
51:22
Speaker 19: it a little differently. I get up that early, but
51:24
Speaker 19: I go in my home office and I shut the
51:26
Speaker 19: door and I work, and then I find a point
51:28
Speaker 19: where I want to stop take a thirty minute drive
51:30
Speaker 19: into the office.
51:31
Speaker 4: It's old Juneteenth thing.
51:32
Speaker 3: I mean you guys are going to get into that
51:33
Speaker 3: at all today, or I mean I didn't know of it.
51:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, we have a jam packed show. We may try
51:37
Speaker 4: to get into it a bit. I'll tell you.
51:39
Speaker 19: I think it's an opportunity to look at the code.
51:41
Speaker 19: I agree and revisit the code. I have some clarity
51:44
Speaker 19: around this.
51:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we had a texture that said get
51:46
Speaker 3: the legislature to weigh in on that. Gush Ursolango didn't
51:49
Speaker 3: disagree with that. However, he said it would be kind
51:52
Speaker 3: of a hot button issue. He didn't know whether a
51:54
Speaker 3: lot would have the courage to step up to the
51:56
Speaker 3: plate to want to do that.
51:57
Speaker 4: Well, that's why you set.
51:57
Speaker 19: In those chairs. You can't dodge the top of us.
52:00
Speaker 19: And this shouldn't be a tough thing. I like the
52:01
Speaker 19: floating holiday idea personally talking about we've tossed out there.
52:04
Speaker 19: People can celebrate what they want to celebrate. But yeah,
52:07
Speaker 19: we're talking about a sentence that's maybe ten words in
52:10
Speaker 19: the code, that's buried in the jails section here, that
52:13
Speaker 19: has sparked all of this. It's probably been ignored for
52:16
Speaker 19: a long time. But Ben is right, Ben siling Go's right.
52:19
Speaker 4: JB. Mccusky is right.
52:20
Speaker 19: The counties will have to shut the courthouses and the annexes. Yeah,
52:23
Speaker 19: it's that simple. Yeah, well, that pesky rule of law.
52:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, gosh darned it all the heck all right, Wilson
52:31
Speaker 3: Meadows coming up with Metro News talk Line ten oh
52:33
Speaker 3: six and matdam Baron and I will be along with thirteen.
52:36
Speaker 3: She's with thirteen News. I'm with Metro News and WCCHS.
52:39
Speaker 3: We have the job titles right here in a minute,
52:41
Speaker 3: but yeah, we'll be along with Metro News Midday coming
52:43
Speaker 3: up at noon today. Coming up on this show tomorrow,
52:46
Speaker 3: Rick Cavator, we'll stop by Charleston Urban Works foment the
52:48
Speaker 3: dome is happening this Saturday. It looks like the rain's
52:51
Speaker 3: gonna move out, but oh man, is there gonna be
52:53
Speaker 3: hots And so we'll talk to Rick Cavator about that.
52:56
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder we'll be talking sipping by as well, and
52:59
Speaker 3: we can continue on the food subject. Chef Key talking
53:02
Speaker 3: about some Juneteenth cooking.
53:04
Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to that. I'll see you later today.
53:06
Speaker 3: Till then, have fun, love somebody.
53:21
Speaker 4: You see a S A M.
53:22
Speaker 2: Six point five that's on Charleston one or four point
