- 0:07What's up, everybody? Welcome to another episode of
- 0:10Rock for Initiative. My name's Phil and I am your
- 0:13host. Today we get to talk to David
- 0:16from Dear Cincinnati. Such an amazing person.
- 0:21I just spent the last hour and a half plus editing the content of
- 0:26this episode and I I don't know, I don't know what to tell you.
- 0:32It's it's just so good. I think like right after I got
- 0:38done with my conversation with David, I text Rob from Emo kids
- 0:42Anonymous and was just like, the kids are all right.
- 0:45You know, David is really cool. We talk about Sonic, we talk
- 0:50about Overwatch, we talk about Warframe, we talk about emo
- 0:54history, get into all sorts of man, all sorts of stuff.
- 1:01It's it's a great episode. It's it's really good.
- 1:03I'll also be honest, it's it's past midnight right now and I'm
- 1:07exhausted and probably shouldn't be telling you this, but I hope,
- 1:11I hope you're enjoying this whenever you're listening to it
- 1:14and that you're wide awake and not half asleep like I am right
- 1:17now. Dear Cincinnati is going on tour
- 1:21in the very near future with Trash with Adjust the Sales with
- 1:26Dear Marianne. They are going I think like all
- 1:29over the East Coast, hitting up a lot of the Midwest.
- 1:33Make sure that if they are coming to a city near you, you
- 1:36catch that tour because it is going to be insane.
- 1:41So good. Some of the best bands in emo
- 1:44today and probably like a $20 show if that.
- 1:48So make sure you check them out. Check out to your Cincinnati's
- 1:54album that they've got out streaming on Spotify.
- 1:57They got a new album coming out soon that is being produced by
- 2:00Ryland from Word I'm Angel. Man, that's going to be so
- 2:05great. They are one of the younger
- 2:08bands in the scene right now, but like prolific and amazing.
- 2:12I cannot say enough about how much I love Dear Cincinnati and
- 2:16David especially. We're buddies now.
- 2:19Anyways, Rockford Initiative is also undergoing like a logo
- 2:24change, so keep an eye out for that.
- 2:27I've had a lot of people reach out to me.
- 2:29I posted something about the logo I had a had a few artists
- 2:36asked me if it was AI generated because it didn't want to be on
- 2:38the show. If it was and, and fair enough.
- 2:41I, I, it's not AI generated. At least I didn't AI generated.
- 2:45I reached out to someone on Fiverr and had them paid them
- 2:49right to create a logo for me. And, and whether it's AI or not,
- 2:53I don't, I don't think it is. I've had it scanned, I've looked
- 2:56at it could be, couldn't be. It doesn't really matter because
- 2:59at the end of the day, you know, perceptions important.
- 3:03And I also would love to work with an artist who I know and
- 3:07who's part of the music scene. So I've had a few people reach
- 3:10out to me, I have had some people send me like their mock
- 3:15ups and I think they're all great and I wish I could use all
- 3:18of them, but I just want to. I'll shout out some of those on
- 3:21my socials in the very near future.
- 3:23Check out at Rockford Initiative on Instagram and Tiktok.
- 3:28And if you're looking for an artist, I should have a whole
- 3:31list up for you of awesome artists from the scene who are
- 3:35AI free. So keep AI out of art, it's
- 3:40easy, just don't use it. Help support artists.
- 3:45Also, I just want to shout out Never Phase Network, which I am
- 3:49a part of. Never Phase Network is a great
- 3:53place to find out about new music, to read music reviews,
- 3:57check out other awesome podcasts.
- 3:59We just added a brand new podcast to our lineup, Safe and
- 4:02Sound with Jeremy. Really cool therapy based, like
- 4:08music therapy based podcast. Lots of of really great guests
- 4:14on that. We also have the track Marks
- 4:16podcast that's brand new. I just started putting out
- 4:19episodes with Foose and Ducky. They've got a a bunch of new
- 4:22episodes. I think they've got 1 coming out
- 4:25at the same time as this episode, perhaps with Chair
- 4:28Dusty, so make sure you check them out.
- 4:30Never Phase podcast, Wasting Time podcast, Certified fangirl
- 4:35podcast, the Scott Mailman podcast, the Imperfect Guides
- 4:38podcast, podcast which releases once a week.
- 4:42Check them all out. I know everyone's got nothing
- 4:45but time to go listen to podcasts.
- 4:47Also this week, if you are listening on Thursday when I
- 4:51when this episode releases, make sure that tomorrow you check out
- 4:55emokidsanonymous.com. Shout out to the emo kids, shout
- 4:58out Rob, Amanda and Catherine, my favorite, some of my favorite
- 5:02people in the world. I mean like top, top like 5
- 5:05maybe. I don't know.
- 5:06I also have like a wife and two kids, so maybe not top five, I
- 5:10don't know, maybe top five. They're great.
- 5:12I love them. Check out emokidsanonymous.com
- 5:16and check out the top 200 emo albums of all time that were
- 5:22curated by over 100 different contributors.
- 5:26And Rob put the list together. I helped create the website that
- 5:29they're going to be displayed on, so that's getting released
- 5:32tomorrow. So go to argue about e-mail and
- 5:34stuff. Yeah.
- 5:37I don't know. I don't know what else to tell
- 5:38you. This is a long intro for what is
- 5:41already a long episode and I'm just I'm not going to cut any of
- 5:45it. Just enjoy it.
- 5:46Sorry, I will smell. You on
- 6:01I'm here with David from Dear Cincinnati.
- 6:03How are you doing, David? Hello, I'm pretty good.
- 6:06It's it's been a nice Saturday so far, so it's pretty cool.
- 6:12It's like college football Saturday.
- 6:14It is, in fact, college football Saturday.
- 6:17Go blue, University of Michigan. That's who we that's who we root
- 6:21for around these around here. So University of Michigan, but
- 6:26you are from Tallahassee, is that I am from Tallahassee an
- 6:29accurate statement? Yeah, I am.
- 6:32I have family from Michigan, a lot of family.
- 6:34It's like, and I'm not before foremost and before everything,
- 6:40I am a Detroit sports fans, Lions, Pistons, Tigers, Red
- 6:44Wing. And then I kind of just picked
- 6:46up the University of Michigan because I have like friends who
- 6:50go there and Ann Arbor is just a beautiful place.
- 6:52I've been there. So it kind of just I kind of
- 6:54just like fell into the University of Michigan.
- 6:58Nothing. But the rest of my band are fans
- 7:01and a lot of my friends are fans of FSU, obviously.
- 7:05Right. That's yeah.
- 7:08Yeah, well, hey, it's good to be a little different.
- 7:10And also, I mean, it makes a lot of sense, right, that you have
- 7:13Michigan in your blood as a Midwest emo aficionado.
- 7:18Yeah, you know, I I would call myself somewhat of like a
- 7:21historian for the genre. I I do my best to keep up with
- 7:24as much new stuff, though. I feel like recently, like last
- 7:27like a year or so. I've low key dog.
- 7:31I feel like I I haven't, I feel like everyone shows me something
- 7:34new and I'm like, huh, you're telling me this person released
- 7:38an album? What?
- 7:40You know, so it's. It's like a renaissance right
- 7:43now. I feel like emos really like got
- 7:47it going on. Like, there's a lot of really
- 7:49great emo coming out. There's a there's a record that
- 7:52came out that I like put on there that I keep like meaning
- 7:55to when I'm like my free time or like I'm going to drive.
- 7:58I mean to like listen to, but I just never do because Taking
- 8:02Back Sunday. Oh my.
- 8:03It's hard to keep up. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:07Like I like I'm also like, I'm also one of those people that
- 8:10like get stuck in bands. So it's like I'll like put on a
- 8:13band, like I'll like listen to one song from a band and then
- 8:17for the next like 3 weeks it'll just be like all their
- 8:19discography. Like right now I'm in the middle
- 8:22of my Wonder Years era. I love the Wonder Years so much.
- 8:26One of my favorite bands. It's a good era to be in.
- 8:28Awesome era to be in. No closer to Heaven.
- 8:30I've been saying this to everyone recently.
- 8:32No Closer to Heaven is no closer to a perfect album than anything
- 8:36ever will be. I.
- 8:40I mean, I've, I've listened to No Closer to Heaven.
- 8:43I I wouldn't have said it was like one of my favourites until
- 8:46I saw them like earlier this year, do the whole album front
- 8:50to back and then like I started getting really into it.
- 8:53And it is phenomenal. It's like mind blowing, life
- 8:58changing stuff. It's Oh my gosh.
- 9:00And we were on tour when they were doing the No Closer to
- 9:04Heaven Run. And I remember we played the
- 9:08Masquerade. We played one of the smaller
- 9:10rooms, the Masquerade. And as I was walking in, I like
- 9:13to look to my right and there's just a giant poster that's like
- 9:16the album cover. And it's like the Wonder Years
- 9:18are going to be here tomorrow. And I was like, dog, are you
- 9:22kidding me? It's heartbreaking.
- 9:25I know it's super heartbreaking. But it was a great tour.
- 9:28Equipment was on there. Keep in mind knuckle puck.
- 9:32Knuckle Puck, Equipment, the guys from Equipment, I I've the
- 9:36guys from Equipment are really chill and we played Pugfest
- 9:39actually in Pontiac, MI. They were like the first band
- 9:43that like show like that. Like I knew like that showed up
- 9:46that I talked to and they were all super nice guys.
- 9:48The guys from Equipment are awesome, super sweet people.
- 9:52One of these days I'll get them on.
- 9:53I'll get them on the pod. That for real?
- 9:56We'll trick them. I don't normally talk a lot of
- 9:58music, but I do think that going down the emo Rd. with you is is
- 10:02interesting. So I think we should let's,
- 10:04let's just do it. Let's dive into get into emo.
- 10:07Like what is your emo origin story?
- 10:11My emo origin story, I listened to Like the Growing growing up.
- 10:16I heard like a lot of like Fall Out Boy on the radio, but it was
- 10:18always like save rock'n'roll era.
- 10:20It was like that, well, like one song.
- 10:21It's like my songs, no, What You Did in the Dark or whatever.
- 10:25And like that was on the radio a lot.
- 10:28And like also being from Tallahassee, like I remember a
- 10:32teacher's assistant when I was in fifth grade gave me a Mayday
- 10:37Parade jacket that was way too small for me, but I still wore
- 10:41it like everywhere because I thought it was chill.
- 10:46But like first like time I like, really got into emo.
- 10:51I think the first record I ever bought, like the first like CD
- 10:54was from Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy.
- 10:57I think it was the first one that I like really got into.
- 11:00There's some hitters on that album.
- 11:02And then what really did it for me was Taking Back Sunday.
- 11:07Taking Back Sunday was like, Oh my gosh, I remember the first
- 11:10time I heard that Cute without the EI was like 8 or something.
- 11:14I was like 8 years old and I like came on like one of the
- 11:17like, but they like play everything radio stations.
- 11:20Like I was in the car with my Nana.
- 11:22I was like in the car with my Nana and they were like, well,
- 11:24here's Taking Back Sunday and then they like started playing
- 11:27it. I was like, whoa, this is
- 11:28awesome because I've always been the type I really like and the
- 11:33vocals are just insane. Like I'm so big on that.
- 11:36I just love insane vocals. That whole album is insane.
- 11:40Tell all your. Friends tell all your friends is
- 11:42such a good record, like one of my top.
- 11:45It's crazy. We've we've mentioned like 2 out
- 11:47of like mentioned 2 albums on my top five and we're 8 minutes
- 11:51into this record or 8 minutes into this into this session.
- 11:53So. So no, no closer to home and
- 11:57tell all your friends. Are those the 2?
- 11:59Those are two in my top five, 100%.
- 12:01I love both those records to death.
- 12:03What do you rather? What are the other three on
- 12:04there? And these are in no particular
- 12:07order, but of course, no closer to having by the wonder years
- 12:12almost. I think it's like maybe 6.
- 12:14But just Speaking of the wonder years suburbia, I've given you
- 12:17all you've given me. Nothing is like also like my
- 12:20number six, like fantastic record.
- 12:22Actually, it's probably more like 8, but I think my top five
- 12:25in no order is Pilot by Hot Mulligan.
- 12:31That's probably like one of the Hot Mulligan albums is in there.
- 12:35I don't. I kind of switch every day every
- 12:37week or so. Like which one's my favorite?
- 12:41Those days are gone by. Free throw.
- 12:44Yeah. That's like, that's like a
- 12:45quintessential album for me. Like I was like, that was like
- 12:49one of the, like first, like I was like 16.
- 12:51I was like one of the first like real like emo records I heard,
- 12:55and that just like changed my prerogative on so much.
- 13:00Tell your friends how close to heaven, man.
- 13:04I don't know what fills out that lost spot, but a lot comes to
- 13:06mind. Please be nice if I can't be in
- 13:10Alaska. That one gets me all the time.
- 13:13The first American football record is just like, I feel like
- 13:16that's a staple. Like I almost don't want to put
- 13:17it in there because I feel like that's such like a.
- 13:19It's like cliche, but also it's, I mean, there's a reason for
- 13:23that, right? Yeah, Somewhere City by Origami
- 13:27Angel. I've had the great pleasure of
- 13:31working and becoming friends with Ryland, so I'm a little
- 13:36reluctant to say that just because I don't want to hear
- 13:38this and think that I'm like, like, I'm trying to be all nice
- 13:41and stuff. But now I like like produced one
- 13:43of your albums, right? He's in the process of
- 13:45producing. He's producing our.
- 13:47Upcoming record potentially. I don't know if I'm allowed to
- 13:49say. We've announced that maybe he
- 13:52might be producing. He knew.
- 13:54About it from an interview that Ryland did with Emo Kids
- 13:57Anonymous at Warm Taurus. Well then, yeah, he's producing
- 14:00our album. It's been out there.
- 14:03Cool, awesome. I just I.
- 14:04Feel like in the news I don't think.
- 14:06Well, we might be I just every time like I like this is my
- 14:10first like interview. I've done like without the band.
- 14:12And I just think about all the time that like all the like Tom
- 14:15Holland clips of him being like, well, this is what happened
- 14:18happening in the new Spider Man movie.
- 14:20So I don't want to be the guy to like drop moves out, you know
- 14:23what I mean? We'll try not to put you on
- 14:27blast for finding something that.
- 14:29Should we need more drama? We need more drama in this scene
- 14:32anyway, yeah. It is.
- 14:34It's too nice. Who do you?
- 14:36Who do you have beef with? Who like beef?
- 14:38With who do? You who can we like?
- 14:41Who can we generate some beef? I've I had Mike from Summer
- 14:44Bruce come on and talk wrestling with me and I feel like there's
- 14:47not enough rivalry in the emo scene.
- 14:50You guys are too nice to each other.
- 14:52I mean, man, I have beef with that's crazy.
- 14:55I got to think about that. I like to try, I try and live by
- 15:01like then I like being like the nicest person I can because I
- 15:06used to like to get a little vulnerable.
- 15:09I used to not be like the greatest human being in the
- 15:11world. And so as in the last like since
- 15:14the gradual shift and change of human beings happened to me, I
- 15:19try to be just as nice as possible.
- 15:20But when it comes to beef, Dang, who can I call out?
- 15:25Well, this is fun. I feel like I have like his own,
- 15:27I think, I feel like. Shame from adjust the sales is
- 15:29really easy. I was.
- 15:31Thinking Shane, I can talk Shane out Shane from adjust the sales
- 15:34man. Fuck.
- 15:36That guy. No, I'm just joking.
- 15:37I love shame to death Shane. Yeah.
- 15:41And and I feel like I could take him in a fight any day.
- 15:44That's that's just a problem. That's a promise.
- 15:47Who else right Beef with? What else are we done?
- 15:51I kind of have. I have beef with Bryce Howell of
- 15:54Halftime Show, but I'm only saying I have a beef with him to
- 15:57say so we can clip this and oh, no way.
- 16:01I have real beef with him. I texted him and he didn't text
- 16:03me back. I texted him what the heck?
- 16:06Bryce. What the hell?
- 16:07And it's like, come on. So real beef.
- 16:10I was going to say fake, be this was engagement bait.
- 16:12So he would be like, oh, sorry, I saw this interview, David,
- 16:14I'll text you back. But no, now it's written, now
- 16:16it's real beef. I more or less have like beef
- 16:20with like I feel like there's like some certain like I don't
- 16:25really have beef with with bands per SE, but a band related thing
- 16:28I have beef with. I have beef with cities and
- 16:31states. But I.
- 16:33Have I have serious beef with some of these places?
- 16:35And it's not the people. It's never the people that I've
- 16:37never met, like just the city. In general, brow.
- 16:41Phoenix, AZ Why are you that hot?
- 16:45I literally feel I got out of the van and I feel like I
- 16:48emerged from like a big bucket of soup.
- 16:50I was like wet and I smelled really weird and it was just, it
- 16:54was evil, like so wild. Coming from Florida too.
- 16:59Well, it's weird because I come from Florida, but I wasn't I
- 17:02wasn't built for Florida. I see everyone like walking
- 17:05around in like, like people like walk outside and do things at
- 17:11this time of year and I'm like, how do you do that?
- 17:13It's crazy. Yeah, I lived in Florida for, I
- 17:16lived in Florida for like 8 years, so.
- 17:19And I, I grew up in San Diego, which is ideal temperature all
- 17:23the time. And then I lived in Utah for a
- 17:26little while and that it's a little more seasonal, like it's
- 17:28kind of hot in the summer, but it's dry heat, like like
- 17:32Arizona, but way less like tuned down, like 30°.
- 17:36And then I lived in Texas for a little while and it was hot
- 17:39there. But then I moved to Florida and
- 17:41I I never went outside. I was in Port Saint Lucie.
- 17:44We, my son played T-ball in the summer.
- 17:49Jesus. And like just being outside for
- 17:53an hour. I was just drenched.
- 17:57It was awful. Yeah.
- 17:58I. Can't I can't people do?
- 17:59Things there no I. I can't do that.
- 18:02I had to go get like my tire fixed.
- 18:05There was a nail in my tire and like I was so.
- 18:09Nervous. That I was gonna have to like, I
- 18:12don't know why I thought I was gonna have to sit outside.
- 18:14I, I get so anxious over like the weirdest thing, but I'm a
- 18:17pretty anxious guy. I get so anxious and they're
- 18:19like the littlest shit. So I'm driving there and I'm
- 18:22like like white knuckling the steering and I'm like, if I have
- 18:25to sit outside right now, it's over.
- 18:26I was like, I'd just rather just go flat.
- 18:28I'd rather my tire go flat. But I don't have any AC in my
- 18:31car either. Like right now my car is no AC,
- 18:34My girlfriend is not happy about that at all, but I'm getting it
- 18:37fixed. We're getting there.
- 18:38It's an it's an uphill battle, but you know, the the royalties
- 18:41are going to hit one day and then, you know, the ACS, the ACS
- 18:44going to get fixed. And I'm going to tell everyone,
- 18:46hey look what I did fix my ACI. Fixed the AC.
- 18:49That's the most important thing, especially in Florida, for real,
- 18:55because even having the window down, it's just so hot.
- 18:59Yeah, so let's let's pivot to to geekier things.
- 19:06Not that. Not that emo's not nerdy.
- 19:11Let's talk. It can be.
- 19:13Yeah, you give me. Talking about like Braid or
- 19:16Captain Jazz or something. I could nerd out a little bit,
- 19:19but let's talk. Let's talk some video games or
- 19:21something. I was, I was going to say, let's
- 19:24you mentioned that you have a really funny D&D story.
- 19:28I do have. A really funny D&Z story.
- 19:30So when I was like, oh, I must have been like 13 with some of
- 19:36my friends friends, I'm still like, I'm one of those people
- 19:39that's like that. I hated growing up when people
- 19:42would be like, oh, you know, you're not going to have the
- 19:45same friends as when you're like 9 to when you're like 21.
- 19:50And I do so, you know. But we're playing DND at my
- 19:59friend Gillespie's house, and Gillespie's a shout out at
- 20:02Gillespie. He's a prolific.
- 20:03Musician, fantastic. But we're playing Dean Dia's
- 20:07house and I forget what the campaign was and I also forget
- 20:12what I was playing, like what my class was, what my story was.
- 20:15I don't remember anything about that that campaign at all, but I
- 20:19will remember this. We were in this like layer with
- 20:24like a vampire and like we had to get like past the vampire.
- 20:31It's like all coming back to me and we all kind of decided that
- 20:35we were going to like, like throw a big ball of shit at this
- 20:38vampire, like like, like actual shit.
- 20:41And so I roll, I get an 11. I like Tariq's school ball
- 20:47level. Like throw that thing at him,
- 20:48grazes him on the side. My other boy, he he rolls like a
- 20:5219. He's a straight on my friend
- 20:55Kareem, a shorter character, like maybe like 2 feet tall or
- 21:00something. I remember his role and
- 21:02everything. And he rolls like a like a gnat
- 21:0420 to like throw this like giant ball of shit that's bigger than
- 21:09he is at like this vampire Lord. And like that's the only thing I
- 21:14remember from that campaign at all.
- 21:18But it is, it's such a like embedded memory in my mind.
- 21:23When I think about like tabletop game like that's all I think
- 21:25about. It's.
- 21:27Like, that's one of the best things about tabletop games in
- 21:29my opinion, is just, it's like nowhere else in the world
- 21:34really. Can you just get together with
- 21:36like 3 or 4 of your buddies and be like, hey, let's let's make
- 21:39believe for the next three hours and just see what happens, Yeah.
- 21:44It's so wonderful, I love it so much.
- 21:46But that's like the only like D&D story like I can really
- 21:49remember. I do.
- 21:51We always talk about doing a campaign though.
- 21:53Me and my homeboys, we always talk about like doing a
- 21:56campaign. It just sounds like it would be
- 21:57so much fun. But none of us have time
- 22:00anymore. It's that's.
- 22:02The That's always the problem. The the hardest boss battle in
- 22:05D&D is getting everybody together at the same time, for
- 22:09real. For real.
- 22:11That's so real. You also mentioned Warframe,
- 22:16which I know almost nothing about.
- 22:18I think I've, I've tried playing Warframe one time and didn't go
- 22:24super well and then I have never played it again.
- 22:26So tell me a little bit about Warframe, like sell it to me.
- 22:30What? What is what is it that you
- 22:31enjoy about it? I feel.
- 22:33As if Warframe gets compared to Destiny 2A lot.
- 22:38And as someone who's played maybe an hour of Destiny two,
- 22:43I'm an expert and here's what I'll say.
- 22:47Destiny two, it does not compare to Warframe.
- 22:50I don't even really know where to start with Warframe because I
- 22:52don't want to like give anything away.
- 22:55But I got into it because the aforementioned Kareem, he got
- 22:59into it like really early on, like we were like when he was
- 23:04like, I don't know, it must have been like 11 or something.
- 23:06And like he tried to get me into it and like I played a little
- 23:09bit and then I kind of fell out of it.
- 23:10And then in recent years I was like falling back into it.
- 23:14And if you really like to like grind for things, if you really
- 23:17like focusing on like one specific thing you want or if
- 23:22it's awesome, there's a bunch of different like, I don't even
- 23:25know what I would call them like characters.
- 23:27I guess that they're called the war frames.
- 23:30And you like they all have different abilities.
- 23:33And then some of them have like prime versions, which is just
- 23:36like better like a base stats and you can mod everything.
- 23:40You can model your weapons, you can mod your frames.
- 23:43It's just there's just so much like substance to the game.
- 23:48Like there's so much that like even like I was playing Warframe
- 23:51last night. I was doing like things for my
- 23:54rail Jack, which is like ship miss missions is the best way to
- 23:57explain it. And like it's there's just so
- 24:02much like substance with the game that it's like hard to
- 24:08start. And it's like like you're
- 24:11piloting like a mech basically is what the frame is, right?
- 24:15I. I feel like as I've learned a
- 24:18lot more of the story, I can't. It's not like a mech, but it's
- 24:22like, I don't want to like spoil it because it's weird.
- 24:26I found it's like kind of like a spoiler in a way.
- 24:30Like it I, I, it sucks because I don't know how many people are
- 24:34actually going to like play as like as hardcore as like my
- 24:38friends and I do, but but I you're just playing, you know
- 24:47what I mean? You're just playing.
- 24:48You just got to get into it. So.
- 24:51Is it? Tell me about the like the
- 24:54gameplay. Is it like a, is it like like
- 24:56matches against other people or is it No, it's like what?
- 25:00Is it in the world? It's all free world.
- 25:01I mean their story, but a lot of it is like free world, open
- 25:04world type situations. And this is only so you get your
- 25:09you get your star chart, which is like all the planets and then
- 25:12plus some. I'm not going to spoil the plus
- 25:14some, but there's some plus some.
- 25:16And the story has you going to like different planets and
- 25:21stuff. And like there's a bunch of
- 25:23different nodes and there's a bunch of types of games.
- 25:26Like there's survivals where you have to like last a certain
- 25:30amount of time against like just a, a, a continuous incoming of
- 25:37enemies. And then there's there's like
- 25:40defenses which are like waves when you have to defend like
- 25:44certain like artifacts and certain things.
- 25:47There's captures you have to capture, capture people.
- 25:52There's rescues Reed for rescue people.
- 25:54Those two are pretty self-explanatory.
- 25:56There's assassinate like a lot of the boss, a lot of the bosses
- 25:59on the planet are assassinations.
- 26:01And usually you can get like good resources or, or new
- 26:04frames. And I was really drawn to
- 26:08Warframe because of the community aspect that it gives.
- 26:13I feel like in some open world games and some just games in
- 26:19general, there's almost like a toxic culture around it that's
- 26:23pretty like anti everything you know that isn't.
- 26:27I feel like Warframe though, not only the community that plays
- 26:35the game, but Digital Extremes, the company that makes Warframe
- 26:39and overseas Warframe are inclusive to everybody.
- 26:44I mean, like I remember like just yesterday I was like
- 26:47changing the color in my ship and they gave everyone like a
- 26:50free like like pride color palette and that like that.
- 26:55Really like kind of that. That brings me closer to the
- 26:58game because I am not a fan of supporting anything that is it
- 27:06that has any bigotry in its layers.
- 27:09And I don't feel like war friends that way and none of the
- 27:11community is either. You know, it's all a super
- 27:14inclusive space. So that's why I'm really drawn
- 27:17to the game. And also it's like it's it's
- 27:19just a fond memory of me, like my best friend, you know, So I'm
- 27:23I'm still I will ever play Warframe, though I dislike rail
- 27:28Jack quite a lot. Real jet.
- 27:30If you get if you start playing war, I will play Warframe with
- 27:32you, But I'm not playing real blacks.
- 27:34I don't care. I won't.
- 27:36You can get tort to me. I'll do what that.
- 27:37Means but I I'll give Warframe another try.
- 27:41Sure, why not? Yeah, let's do it.
- 27:42I'm play with you. Yeah, we.
- 27:44Can we can start getting you some frames I.
- 27:47I had Christian from hummus vacuum slash my guns adjust the
- 27:52sales my goat I was. Texting you to Christian my
- 27:55goat, were you? I was, yeah.
- 27:57Oh, the guy that's so. Funny, Christian's great and I
- 28:01told I told Christian I would download I would, but I would
- 28:05dust off my PS2 and play not PS2, jeez, my PS5 and play hell
- 28:12divers with him because that's what that's what we talked about
- 28:14always. Trying to.
- 28:15He's trying to get me to play Hell divers.
- 28:18I Loki told him, oh, this is bad.
- 28:21When he first asked me about it, I like kind of blanked on his
- 28:24question. I was like, yeah, I have hell
- 28:25divers because we're on deal on Steam.
- 28:27So I was going to get it. But I was like, yeah, I have it.
- 28:30And then my computer broke and my PC is like, not I like have
- 28:33to go take my PC and get it fixed.
- 28:35So I haven't been able to play hell divers and I could buy it
- 28:38on my Xbox. But in this world, in this day
- 28:41and age and in this time, I don't have $40 and all Hell
- 28:44divers. Wait, Christian, if you can hear
- 28:46me, I will play Hell divers with you soon.
- 28:48One day, I promise. We'll lock it in someday.
- 28:52We'll hell dive together, yeah? We'll.
- 28:54All hell dive together. Save super earth.
- 28:57Define super Earth. He's it's so funny.
- 29:02Yeah. What a great guy.
- 29:04Anyways, that's not what we're here to talk about.
- 29:09Well, that's cool. I I I did not know.
- 29:11I thought Warframe was more like like, what am I thinking?
- 29:17Like like Fortnite or Halo, Like like you, you like it's match to
- 29:21match. But it sounds like it's it's
- 29:23more like open, like more of a like ongoing story or like an
- 29:30MMO without being an MMO Maybe, yeah.
- 29:34Yeah, yeah, pretty much. That's cool.
- 29:38Super. Fun.
- 29:41All right, I'm just going through your list here, but you
- 29:43you got a lot on air and that and and if there's anything else
- 29:45you want to talk about, just throw it out here.
- 29:47I didn't. Know what to put?
- 29:49I like kind of blank. I didn't expect like a list of
- 29:51things. So I like, I like, didn't know
- 29:55what to put, you know what I mean?
- 29:58I mean. We can go off the rails in
- 30:01whatever direction. Like what?
- 30:02What are you geeking out about right now?
- 30:04Like what's what's on your mind right now?
- 30:06What's on my? Mind, I don't know.
- 30:08I, I, I have been dealing with the fact and like suffering with
- 30:12the fact that I've got 5000 hours on Overwatch.
- 30:17I have been wrestling with that fact.
- 30:20I bought it when it came. I bought Overwatch when it came
- 30:21out. I was like 10 years old.
- 30:23Original Overwatch I have somewhere I have like the
- 30:26pre-order thing somewhere back on my shelf over here from It's
- 30:29like a, it's like a license plate from original Overwatch.
- 30:34Jesus. I saw on Twitter actually,
- 30:36that's that's a horrible thing to admit that I stole Twitter,
- 30:39but I will because there's there's a there's a very niche
- 30:42group of people on Twitter. They're just trying to keep it
- 30:44how it used to be. Twitter used to be awesome.
- 30:46I'll stand on that and then emo. Twitter Emo Twitter.
- 30:51'S awesome. That's like I emo.
- 30:53Twitter's awesome, but I saw on Twitter today that they turned
- 30:56Sombra from ADPS into a support or maybe that was just maybe
- 31:01that was just a bit that I wasn't getting because it was
- 31:03very quick. I like got like I got like
- 31:05notification. It was like Sombra being AI got
- 31:07to find it now hold on. We got to find we got to find
- 31:10this tweet or I guess or I guess what do they call him now?
- 31:14We got to find this X so I hate. Calling my sweet.
- 31:17I hate my permission. Got my permission to to call it
- 31:22a tweet and I'm I will. Forever.
- 31:24Call it a tweet. Where is it dude come on.
- 31:30I can't find it in the next few scrolls.
- 31:31I'm just going to get why does they why do they post like so
- 31:35much? How many people are on the
- 31:37Overwatch Twitter like that? Oh my.
- 31:42Gosh, I found it. The tweet says Sombra as a
- 31:45support was nowhere near our 2026 bingo card.
- 31:51Dude what? Sombra as a support?
- 31:54That's an insane. That's insane.
- 31:57Yeah. That's insane to me but no I
- 31:59have 5000 hours on Overwatch and I told my girlfriend that in in
- 32:04passing conversation maybe a month and a half ago and she.
- 32:08Didn't leave you immediately? Insane.
- 32:10She looked at me like I was insane.
- 32:12And I, I guess I didn't realize how bad that was until someone,
- 32:16like had pointed it out. Like, like, I'm 21.
- 32:20That's a year of my life spent in Overwatch, like a full year,
- 32:24continuous year of my life spent on Overwatch.
- 32:27And like, I thought about that and I was like, I got to go
- 32:29outside. I mean, it was like, I have to
- 32:31go outside. I can do something, you know.
- 32:37That my my version of that is Final Fantasy 14.
- 32:41I have 300 days of Final Fantasy 14 play but OK a.
- 32:49Lot of that's. AFK, a lot of that's AFK time
- 32:51because there's a lot of like in that game.
- 32:54The community is very much like let's all stand around and
- 32:57that's 70. 2000 or 7200 hours? Oh my gosh.
- 33:02Oh. My.
- 33:03God, that's insane. It's over.
- 33:06Like a decade, to be fair, but also, but also a lot of it
- 33:11really is like just leaving my game on and like overnight, just
- 33:18like, but everyone will make that excuse.
- 33:21But yeah. That got Overwatch.
- 33:23Though what are the characters that you like to play like?
- 33:27Tell me what do I mean? Overwatch experience.
- 33:29Yeah, this is an. Awesome conversation.
- 33:31I love this. This is awesome.
- 33:33I've never been asked this interview.
- 33:35This is what I want to be asked be like what are your lyrics
- 33:38mean? And I'm like, ask me about my
- 33:40Overwatch characters. I main if I'm playing DPS, I
- 33:45main junk rat or Genji. And then I recently, when I
- 33:48recently got back into it, I became such a nasty Hanzo for no
- 33:53reason. Like I just Remember Me and my
- 33:55boys, me and my friends will play like we'll play mystery
- 34:00heroes a lot just because I that's so much fun.
- 34:02None of us are like ranked people.
- 34:04I've never been like a ranked person.
- 34:05I feel like that much dedication to something like that.
- 34:10To me, it's always just been like a little like whatever.
- 34:12Like I like, I never like, I never Overwatch.
- 34:15OK, I can't even lie. I did play.
- 34:16I did play a little ranked Overwatch.
- 34:19That's when you get really toxic people is when you start playing
- 34:21ranked too. Yeah, and.
- 34:22I'm not into that. I just let me do my thing, but I
- 34:28played a little a little bit of ranked Overwatch, but now we
- 34:32play mystery heroes a lot and it's it's another thing was like
- 34:35Overwatch to that is with Warframes, like the community is
- 34:38so nice and inclusive and especially like because they're
- 34:41so in depth with the stories. Sorry, this is like a hard
- 34:44shift, but I just thought about this like it's the same thing
- 34:46with Overwatch. It is Warframe for me is like is
- 34:49so in depth and I feel like the character backgrounds and who
- 34:54they are as people are like extremely diverse and it's not
- 34:58something I've like seen in any other video game form of media.
- 35:02It's like Call of Duty. It is like Call of Duty.
- 35:04For example, I remember when Black Ops six, no Black Ops Cold
- 35:07War came out, they added like a non binary option and I remember
- 35:11everyone was losing their shit and that was so pain.
- 35:14I mean that made me never play Call of Duty again like that.
- 35:17Like that's the kind of thing like it just made me like never
- 35:19want to like why would I like indulge myself in something that
- 35:22like these like horrible minded people do?
- 35:29But Overwatch is the same way. And that's why that's like I
- 35:34love the game for that reason. It's just so diverse.
- 35:37And Speaking of that, Hanzo, my GOAT, I I just be hitting, I'm
- 35:41hitting headshots like it's nothing.
- 35:43It's insane. If I'm playing tank, I found out
- 35:46I was a pretty good Reinhardt. That's a pretty good Reinhardt,
- 35:50which is not like I used to like in my formative years.
- 35:53I would have told you I was a Diva main.
- 35:56I would have lied to you. OK, I I would like to say that I
- 36:01was good with Diva, but I think there was just no tank that I
- 36:03was good with is the best way to describe it.
- 36:06And then and then on support, probably Mercy, low key, I'm
- 36:13probably that's like my fast like support.
- 36:15I like oh, Zenyatta too. I'm really good at Zenyatta.
- 36:18I like to think, you know, some people are like, oh, you don't
- 36:21play ranked. You can't be that good.
- 36:23Bite me, you know, dude, leave me alone.
- 36:31Yeah, I don't think you have to play rank to be good at a game.
- 36:35It's funny, I I wish I was good at Hanzo.
- 36:37I, I, I've played a lot of Hanzo games.
- 36:40Not great. I definitely, I feel the junk
- 36:42rat because I'm very much a if I don't have to aim, I do a lot
- 36:47better if I can, just if I can just shoot from a distance and
- 36:51blow things up. That's how.
- 36:53I was when I was like when I first got the game, that's how I
- 36:57was, but then I found out that you can low key snipe with junk
- 37:02rat and ever since I ever since I like found that out, it was
- 37:07over. It was so over.
- 37:10Like I I've found that out and I have practiced my junk rat
- 37:13aiming. I got it like like I can bounce
- 37:17them in the enemy, like I can bounce his like frag cannon into
- 37:20enemies. I can hit head shots with them.
- 37:22Even if they don't and they do count.
- 37:23They totally do count. You can head shots and chunk rat
- 37:26and they do count. But I've gotten so good at just
- 37:29flying around with my little minds and placing a trap for the
- 37:32tank and there's trapping them in a corner.
- 37:35What's he going to do? What what are they going to do?
- 37:36What's the tank? What is Theresa going to do?
- 37:39You're trapped in a corner with my trap.
- 37:42What is Theresa going to do? Nothing.
- 37:44Because if she kills me, then I have that after effect after my
- 37:48death, and she's done for. Gosh, God, I love junk rats so
- 37:54much. God damn, dude, I love junk rats
- 37:57so much. He's got some.
- 37:58Great lines too. Amazing lines, amazing skins
- 38:01too. I wear this.
- 38:02I use the I use the Summer Games skin though, with the Beachy
- 38:07one, because that's like my second favorite.
- 38:10My favorite is the doctor Dunkenstein, but I just never
- 38:13got that. Never.
- 38:14I never end up getting Doctor Dunkenstein, which like makes me
- 38:17he's like a. Scarecrow, I have that.
- 38:20One yeah. Scarecrow's Scarecrow's tail.
- 38:23I really like the Scarecrow. I haven't played Overwatch in a
- 38:27minute. It's been all, it's been
- 38:29probably a couple of years since the last time I picked up
- 38:31Overwatch. But it it was fun for sure.
- 38:34So much. Fun overwatching Warframe are
- 38:37like my two games right now. And then I have I have a very
- 38:41dear personal friend who's like starting to get into video games
- 38:44and she's like she's like like starting to she like plays like
- 38:50with her family like she'll like put like Fortnite with her
- 38:52family. And she was like, do you want to
- 38:55play Fortnite with me? Because she's like my
- 38:56girlfriend's like best friend. And then we ended up becoming
- 38:58friends and it's a very lovely, lovely, lovely situation.
- 39:01I got, you know, I just love having like new and like new
- 39:05friends and stuff like that. But I remember like the first
- 39:09time that she was telling me about video games, I was like,
- 39:11oh, what video game do you play? And she's like, oh, she's been
- 39:13playing a lot of Fortnite. And I, I was never really into
- 39:16Fortnite. I never really got into that.
- 39:18It was never like my thing. But I will say this, they
- 39:23released a Sonic the Hedgehog skin and it came out like
- 39:27recently. I have never downloaded and
- 39:30grinded a game as hard as I did with with with Sonic and one of
- 39:36like, I guess like more of like emotes or whatever is like him
- 39:42with all the seven chaos emeralds like turning into
- 39:44golden Sonic. I may, I may have sat there from
- 39:48like the hours of like 5:00 PM to 4:00 in the morning every
- 39:52morning, just like or like every day, just like playing when I
- 39:55could. They did pee.
- 39:56I remember I did like peel off or something like they had to
- 39:59like like come like a they had to like come like RIP me out of
- 40:02my chair so I could so I could get off.
- 40:05But I wanted that golden Sonic skin.
- 40:07It was so cool. I loved it.
- 40:09It's so. Addicting I I played a little
- 40:12bit. Well, I played a lot of
- 40:13Fortnite. My son, like when he was like 8,
- 40:18really wanted to get into Fortnite and his mom was like, I
- 40:23don't, I don't know about that. And I was like, I'll, I'll play
- 40:26with him. It'll, it's fine.
- 40:27I'll I will sacrifice and play Fortnite.
- 40:31And we played all the time and it's been fun watching it like
- 40:35go from me carrying him to him hard carrying me.
- 40:40Yeah, hard carrying me. He's way bigger at Fortnite than
- 40:43I am now. That's how I.
- 40:44Feel with That's how I feel with this this aforementioned friend
- 40:48I have. She's not very good.
- 40:52So you know, she's no, she's actually, she's all right, I
- 40:56guess. But I'm lucky the carrier, you
- 40:58know, and I'm the one with the microphone.
- 41:00So no one gets like me, me, her and my like my, one of my
- 41:05childhood best friends. We play a lot and you know, I'm
- 41:09the one with the microphone. So I can sit here and say that
- 41:11I'm the one cranking 90s and I'm getting all the kills and I'm
- 41:15doing all these different things.
- 41:16They don't have the microform or the platform to be able to
- 41:20dispute what I've got going on. So I can, I can just pretty much
- 41:24say you confidently, I am the the Fortnite master or whatever
- 41:29they call it. Over here or whatever I.
- 41:32Don't know. I don't know.
- 41:33I'm dying. We're gonna.
- 41:35Call it right here, David from Deer, Cincinnati is the once in
- 41:39the future ninja of Fortnite. Yeah, let's.
- 41:41Do it. Let's just put that in.
- 41:43Why not the future ninja? Of Fortnite, that's.
- 41:45Tough. I'm gonna start to call.
- 41:47I'm gonna I'm gonna add that like a suffix to my name like
- 41:51I'm gonna put I have to go get my driver's license renewed.
- 41:53I'm gonna put that. I'm gonna ask me to put that on
- 41:55my driver's license like the future.
- 41:56Can I get that as my? Middle name please?
- 41:58Yeah, you meant. Ninja like like the streamer
- 42:01Ninja. How was Streamer?
- 42:02That's what I was. Saying I was thinking like.
- 42:04That's just the title. Like I'm just so sneaky on
- 42:06Fortnite that I'm just the goat, you know what I mean?
- 42:08It could be that. Too.
- 42:09That's even better, actually. Ninja is from Detroit and he's a
- 42:13Lions fan, so I once I found that out, I actually started to
- 42:16really enjoy Ninja. Never watched like a Ninja
- 42:18stream or whatever, but you know, yeah.
- 42:21So. Sonic, you're a big Sonic fan.
- 42:25That was one. That was one of the things that
- 42:27you listed. So I am a.
- 42:29Pretty. Pretty big Sonic the Hedgehog
- 42:31fan. I love Sonic give.
- 42:35Me, your, I, I know I asked for the origin story and everything,
- 42:39but I think it's so interesting hearing how people get into
- 42:41stuff. What was your entry point for
- 42:43Sonic? Walgreens circa 2000, like 9 or
- 42:4810. I'm like walking around with my
- 42:51Nana. By the way, I've mentioned her a
- 42:53couple times. Love my Nana to death.
- 42:55I hope she sees this Nana. I hope you're all right.
- 42:58I love you. Shout out, Nana.
- 42:59I do. I shout her out at every one of
- 43:00my shows just because I love. I love that woman to death.
- 43:04She's absolutely amazing. Oh gosh, I couldn't talk enough.
- 43:08But if that's if you ever want to know what I could geek out
- 43:10on, be my Nana love her to death.
- 43:13They're just an amazing human being.
- 43:15She that's the sweetest. Thing I've ever heard yeah, I.
- 43:17Was I was raised by her like she was like I was raised by her and
- 43:23just, you know, I don't, I don't go anywhere.
- 43:26Like every time I, I try and do, I try and like send her photos
- 43:29of everywhere I go just because, you know, and she's just most
- 43:34special, like one of the most special people in my life.
- 43:37But it's beyond the point. Circa 2009 or 10, I'm in a
- 43:40Walgreen. No, I'm in the CVS.
- 43:42That was right by the house I grew up in my Nan's getting a
- 43:46prescription or something and I like walk over they used on a
- 43:49toy aisle at CVS like a really good one.
- 43:52I remember and they like down at the bottom shelf where I could
- 43:57see they had like a bunch of like plush toys.
- 44:00Like a bunch of like plush toys. They had a Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
- 44:05And I saw that. I was like, Oh my gosh, that's
- 44:07so cool. So I remember that.
- 44:09And I went back to like the, the, you know, like the family
- 44:13computer. Yeah.
- 44:14Do you have a family computer? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:18I remember. We went back, I went back to the
- 44:19family computer. I like, I snuck around.
- 44:22I like ninja to the computer room, as we called it.
- 44:26It was it wasn't the computer room, just where the where my
- 44:28dog would sleep, but it was the computer room to me.
- 44:32And I like ninja at like 11:30 at night because everyone was
- 44:36asleep. I definitely wasn't supposed to
- 44:37be awake. I had school the next morning
- 44:39and I was like, what is Sonic? And from there I can confidently
- 44:43tell you that Sonic the Hedgehog is is one of the most like peak
- 44:51things in the world. Like a for me, like growing up
- 44:53from the ages of like 5. I would.
- 44:56Say to like 12 but no to now. It was like Pokémon and Sonic
- 45:00like my two things like Oh my gosh, but Sonic first Sonic game
- 45:05I ever got was was Sonic colors for the Wii.
- 45:08That game is awesome and you can't.
- 45:10Get my game. All the time.
- 45:12You cannot convince me that Sonic Colors for the Wii isn't
- 45:15so peak. And you you just can't.
- 45:18And then I got a Sega Dreamcast. Like I remember my like some
- 45:22family member or something, I don't know what it was brought,
- 45:25oh, brought over like a bunch of like brought an original Xbox
- 45:29over and like some other stuff. When I was like 9.
- 45:34There's like a couple years, five years after the fact.
- 45:37I was pretty young when I found out about Sonic.
- 45:40It was probably like I found out about Sonic when I was 6.
- 45:43And then like 3-4 years later, I was like 10 years old.
- 45:45I get like an original Xbox. There's like some like old like
- 45:49junk that my like family didn't want and a Sega Dreamcast and
- 45:52the Sega Dreamcast I was like drawn to how the controller
- 45:55looked because I thought it was super cool.
- 45:56It's so. Cool.
- 45:57I don't know why Sega Dreamcast didn't do better.
- 46:00I don't know. That's a cool system.
- 46:03I don't know. Either, but I like plugged in
- 46:07the Sega Dreamcast to the TV, which took me like hours because
- 46:13I didn't know how anything worked back then.
- 46:15So that took me like hours, but I finally figured it out and
- 46:18there's already a game in there and it was Sonic Adventure.
- 46:23You couldn't. Pull me off.
- 46:25Sonic Adventure. It was so awesome.
- 46:29And then when I was like a couple years down the line when
- 46:32I had like, like unrestricted access to the Internet, like I
- 46:37had a phone, I found out that there was a Sonic Adventures
- 46:40too. And at this point, someone in my
- 46:43family had already sold my Sega Dreamcast.
- 46:46I was heartbroken, I was devastated, but someone had
- 46:49already sold my Sega Dreamcast. So I emulated Sonic Adventure 2
- 46:54on my PC, and I love Sonic. It's so fire.
- 46:58I don't really remember why I was so drawn to it or any of the
- 47:01games, but I love Sonic. Sometimes you just are.
- 47:06Yeah, that's fine. I remember on.
- 47:08Valentine's Day when I was in middle school, none of my
- 47:12friends like, it was weird. None of my friends like we like
- 47:17didn't have like, we didn't have like like girlfriends or
- 47:20whatever. And we were all like weirdly
- 47:22upset about it. Because when you're in middle
- 47:24school and there's like nothing else to like do or like think
- 47:27about, you gotta read bills to pay or anything.
- 47:29So you think about your like, so like you think about like you're
- 47:32like social standing. I get like I never was super
- 47:35deep into it, but like a lot of the people around me were.
- 47:38So I was like, Oh, this is must be something I have to care
- 47:40about. And I remember we were all like
- 47:43upset that we didn't have girlfriends.
- 47:46So I got my Nana to drive all of us in suits to go see the Sonic
- 47:52movie, The live action Sonic, but it just come out and I at
- 47:56the time thought this was the like the greatest thing I could
- 48:00have ever done. That was like like go see that
- 48:03on Valentine's Day. And we were like the only people
- 48:05in the movie theater is awesome, which.
- 48:09Then. I was like, this is awesome.
- 48:12We're the only ones doing like this peak activity today.
- 48:14Now I look back at it and I'm like, oh, because everyone was
- 48:17just their significant other and their partner probably
- 48:20celebrating Valentine's Day. Except I'm pretty sure there was
- 48:24this one couple in there that was like there was like pretty
- 48:29big into Sonic. Like I'm pretty sure that's what
- 48:30they did for their Valentine's Day.
- 48:33Like they like, it was pretty cool.
- 48:35I remember, I don't think we were alone.
- 48:36I'm I'm I kind of like my memories like shift in and out.
- 48:39So it's like I feel like that remembered like exactly what
- 48:42happened. Or was it Sonic 2 that I saw
- 48:46where there was a couple that was like really into Sonic?
- 48:48Like we, I talked to both of them and they were just like
- 48:52explaining their like lore with Sonic.
- 48:56I was like, OK, like that's cool.
- 48:59I was like you guys are awesome, but how did you feel about?
- 49:02Ugly Sonic, like before they changed him for the movie, Were
- 49:06you were you upset about it or were you just whatever?
- 49:11I, I was upset for a time. I was upset and I was about to
- 49:17go storm to Paramount and like I like release like hell, Like I
- 49:26was about to release like the the 10 plagues onto the
- 49:30Paramount studios, But when them changing Sonic into what he
- 49:39looks like now for the live action movies was so like I like
- 49:47I don't remember. Like my reaction was so like
- 49:51like I was like in so much like like awe about it that I forgot
- 49:57to be mad, like still be angry at paramount because like I
- 50:00don't believe that corporations can do right ever.
- 50:03I feel like they don't. A lot of the times corporations
- 50:05don't do right because greed, you know, but it's.
- 50:10Very, very rare, for sure, yeah. But Paramount Studios changing
- 50:17the Sonic design. It was beautiful.
- 50:21It was a beautiful time we lived in.
- 50:23It was, it was quite, it was quite for a second, I, I started
- 50:26to, I started to question the revolution.
- 50:29I was like, well, what are we fighting here?
- 50:30You know, I, I was like, for a second I was like, well, hold
- 50:35on. Well, maybe it's OK.
- 50:37I was like. Look, let's leave Paramount out
- 50:40of this. I was like, they just change.
- 50:42They change Sonic. But no, I'm serious now.
- 50:45I was like so stoked about it. I was.
- 50:48It was so crazy. I remember when all that
- 50:50happened, I was like, when will we come out?
- 50:53Did you ever? Did you ever see the Chip and
- 50:54Dale movie with with ugly Sonic in it?
- 50:57I did. Because like I was like big I, I
- 51:00did, I don't know. It was around the same time as
- 51:02like. Sonic too.
- 51:03Yeah, yeah, I. Don't know how they got the
- 51:05rights to use that but I don't know but it's.
- 51:08Fantastic and and played by Tim Robinson from What is that show
- 51:14called? Yeah.
- 51:16Detroiters and which? Detroit?
- 51:19But Detroiters, and I think you should, I think you should
- 51:22leave, yes. I I.
- 51:25Like watched Detroiters relatively recently and I had
- 51:28never seen I think you should leave, but I like started, I
- 51:33think you should leave and Sam, what is the comedian's name?
- 51:37The other dude in Detroiters, Sam, I want to say his last
- 51:40name's Richardson. Maybe I'm not like I'm looking.
- 51:44It up for you? We'll we'll Google it.
- 51:46Sam Richardson's right. Good job, Yeah.
- 51:48He was in, he was in I think you should leave.
- 51:52And I'm a big, I'm a big believer in like comedy duos.
- 51:55I think people like if it's not broke, don't fix it.
- 52:00And those two together are so funny that like, I didn't think
- 52:03I think you should leave. It's going to be that funny.
- 52:05But he's in a lot of it, apparently.
- 52:08Yeah. So, yeah, he's in.
- 52:09He's in a lot of the sketches for sure.
- 52:11OK, good. It's so good.
- 52:12I, I quote that without thinking about it all the time.
- 52:17Yeah. Me and my friends quote the the
- 52:19hot dog cor quite a lot. Still to this day my favorite
- 52:23my. Personal favorite is like
- 52:24anytime I'm talking about never a phase network or talking about
- 52:27this podcast, I'm like there's got to be some way to make money
- 52:30from it. It's.
- 52:32Too. Good dude, I know.
- 52:34Talking about yeah, there's so much quote about me, me and my
- 52:39me and my girlfriend. We quote the we quote this thing
- 52:41from Detroiters. They like, like get a van and
- 52:45like 1 like one of the other character like paints like Sam
- 52:48Richardson and Tim Robinson onto the dam.
- 52:50And they're like horrible paintings.
- 52:53And and Tim Robbinson is just like, oh, you really captured
- 52:56my, you know, my corncob smile and my Gray, Gray skin.
- 53:00And I'll just look at her and be like, or like, well, or I'll
- 53:02look at her. I'll be like, I'll be like my
- 53:04name Mike Cyclops. And I work for NASA.
- 53:08Like I like we quote that Bubba Sparks.
- 53:11That's another really funny one. He's he's he's such an amazing
- 53:15comedian, such an amazing. Yeah.
- 53:21Back on Sonic for a minute. So.
- 53:24So what would you say is your favorite Sonic game if you had
- 53:27to pick one? Sonic.
- 53:27Adventures. No, Sonic Adventure Colors is
- 53:31like that for Colors is like your colors, like that old
- 53:38friend that you were really close with as a kid.
- 53:40And then you've grown up and you you just kind of like see that
- 53:44dude's posts on Facebook and you're like, OK, you're like,
- 53:50here's a like, I guess you know what I mean?
- 53:53Like that's, that's kind of like almost Sonic Colors.
- 53:56He's just kind of like that old friend on Facebook that I used
- 53:59to be really close with. I still love the game.
- 54:02Like, I still really like this guy, but it's like we're in,
- 54:05we're in two separate worlds now we're in two.
- 54:07Different places now, yeah 2. Completely separate places.
- 54:11That's my. Favorite description of anything
- 54:14ever and I'll and you can quote me on that later.
- 54:16I think that's fantastic. I love that and I'm thinking
- 54:19right now of how I can use that in my personal life in the near
- 54:22future. I've always.
- 54:25Got like a weird way of like I forgot what it was one time.
- 54:30But like my girlfriend and I really got like a gas station.
- 54:33Really. She's like saying something.
- 54:35She's like talking like oh it's baggy pants.
- 54:38I'm pretty anti baggy pants. I don't like them and everyone
- 54:42wants me to put on baggy pants. Like everyone thinks I would
- 54:44look so cool in baggy pants. I've never been like concerned
- 54:48with looking cool or anything, but they all want me to put on
- 54:51like baggy pants and I like looked at her and I was like, I
- 54:55was like baggy pants. To me, it sounds like when you
- 54:57put like a dog in like shoes, you know, they like kind of like
- 55:00clop around. Like that's how I would feel.
- 55:03That's how I do feel in baggy pants.
- 55:05Like I like clop around. I don't know if clop is the
- 55:08right term, but I'm thinking like a horse now.
- 55:10They like like clop on the ground.
- 55:11Exactly what you're saying. Like kitten mittens?
- 55:14Like kitten? Mittens Yeah, exactly.
- 55:17Like watching like a. Baby walk around in the snow, I
- 55:20I. Think it's great.
- 55:21Actually, I think that's probably what makes you like a
- 55:25great musician, a great artist, is that you think differently
- 55:29and you can draw these like comparisons to things that maybe
- 55:34other people wouldn't necessarily.
- 55:37Thank you. It means a lot.
- 55:39Thank you. That's makes you really.
- 55:40Fun to talk to so thank you I. Could talk I I you're also an
- 55:44extremely fun person to talk to. I like, I like didn't know, like
- 55:48I never know what to expect with things like this, and I'm always
- 55:50expecting like I I'm not the greatest socially, so I don't
- 55:55like I don't know. I never know how to expect how
- 55:57I'm gonna be, but this is this. This is felt like I'm always
- 56:01scared. You're on.
- 56:01Fire. Put me on late night.
- 56:06Put me on. Late night.
- 56:08But no, I'm always like scared that I'm gonna like make it
- 56:11awkward or like I'm like say the wrong thing.
- 56:13I'm I'm an extremely extremely anxious anxious.
- 56:17Person. Very, very.
- 56:18Anxious. I'm always scared of like doing
- 56:21something wrong, like that's my like it's one of my big things.
- 56:23I'm always scared of like making a misstep.
- 56:27But this has been like super like easy.
- 56:29I love this. This is awesome.
- 56:30I wish like I wish every interview was off play with like
- 56:32this. This is awesome.
- 56:34I'm. Glad I'm glad you feel that way.
- 56:35I I, you know, I think that's the beauty of doing things this
- 56:39way. And like I've told people this,
- 56:41I'm here to make fun content for people to consume.
- 56:43But also I'm here because I like talking to cool people.
- 56:46And yeah, like, who's cooler than, like, emo musicians?
- 56:50No one. A lot of people.
- 56:52But we're going to pretend where the coolest.
- 56:57I really, I love it. Anyways, here's my this is my
- 57:01we've done a lot of click bait stuff actually.
- 57:03So I think you, you've given me a lot of clips, but I'm in a
- 57:05farm for just a little bit more because this is my favorite type
- 57:08of segment, which is I'm going to give you a Sonic character,
- 57:12OK. And we'll just go through like
- 57:145. And then I want you to give me
- 57:16an emo band that you think is represented by that by.
- 57:21That Sonic character, any era or should it be like this?
- 57:23Like current? It could be any.
- 57:24Era, OK, any era. It's it's whoever you can think
- 57:28of. It doesn't even have to be an
- 57:29emo band. Like if you if you're like that
- 57:31person, this, this character reminds me of whoever.
- 57:34It doesn't matter. We'll start with the the
- 57:37hedgehog himself. How about Sonic the Tensioner?
- 57:40Character himself, you know, man, I don't.
- 57:48I feel like Sonic has to be like, I feel like there's a
- 57:54bunch of different aspects of Sonic that make him Sonic, and I
- 57:58see that in a couple of different bands.
- 58:00I'm not trying to be like to be 1.
- 58:02OK, yeah, give me a couple. I'm not trying.
- 58:04To be like that, like that guy or whatever.
- 58:07But I would say that my bands pretty Sonic.
- 58:11Like in a way, I feel like we're pretty.
- 58:13I feel like he's pretty fun, fun and can be serious when it needs
- 58:19to and like sort of things like that.
- 58:20But outside of my band, we'll start.
- 58:22This is when the clickbait starts.
- 58:24I'll start mentioning other people.
- 58:25This is right now. Clickbait starts now.
- 58:28We could, we could say. It started just a second ago.
- 58:31Internet whenever. It's Snatty.
- 58:34Here's your snatty. Is the Sonic comedy voicing the
- 58:36new Sonic? Are we all collectively voicing
- 58:38the new Sonic? Like all of us five times?
- 58:42Like all of us have our own separate minds and at the.
- 58:44Same time yeah, I like it we're. All we're.
- 58:47All on. Beat with each other.
- 58:49We're not all speaking at the same time.
- 58:50We're speaking in different like in different like like voice,
- 58:54character instincts and stuff. We all have like a different
- 58:57idea. I truly think Sonic should be
- 58:59French this time around. So it's like the one dude
- 59:01speaking a French accent. Sonic play.
- 59:05You know, I might give Sonic Dang.
- 59:11Who would I give Sonic to? I I feel like he needs to be
- 59:16pretty titular pretty like a main character esque.
- 59:20I would probably and I'm also judging this based off what I
- 59:23think that the that they would listen to.
- 59:26I think Sonic would listen to something a little heavier and
- 59:31faster, but also with some feeling low key, just to put it
- 59:34there. I think Taking Back Sunday could
- 59:35be Sonic. I think that's a good snag right
- 59:37there. I think they fit that like yeah,
- 59:40I'm going to go ahead and lock that.
- 59:41I think Taking Back Sunday would be Sonic, but yeah, but I'll do
- 59:45some newer bands and some bands more in the scenes.
- 59:47The other one any. Specific Taking Back Sunday
- 59:51album that you think is the most Sonic I have a.
- 59:53Specific take Back Sunday song that I think would be the most
- 59:55Sonic. Yeah, I think.
- 59:58That a werewolves New Jersey, you know, the ones like get up,
- 1:00:03get up, get up, come on, let's go.
- 1:00:05I that just gives me such like I feel like I would see that like
- 1:00:08a Sonic OST. You know what I mean?
- 1:00:10I like that. Great song.
- 1:00:12That's another one that's just always stuck in my head, even if
- 1:00:15I haven't listened to it in like a year.
- 1:00:17It's it'll it'll just randomly pop up in my head.
- 1:00:21Tails the fox, I feel. Like Tails actually.
- 1:00:25This is why I this is the first one I thought about.
- 1:00:28I think Origami Angel is Tails 100%.
- 1:00:30I feel like Tails would really, really fuck with Origami Angel
- 1:00:35and you know, oh, or Sonic could be the Wonder years too.
- 1:00:40I'm just bringing up my favorite bands, but I'm still locked down
- 1:00:43Taking Back Sunday. I just feel like came like came
- 1:00:47out swinging. It starts like a Sonic song.
- 1:00:49So you know, we're going to change that.
- 1:00:51Sonic Wonder Years, Origami Angel, or who else would be
- 1:00:56Tails? I could see.
- 1:00:59Something a little more mathy be tailed maybe?
- 1:01:02Like maybe tails his niche and listens to like TTNG or
- 1:01:06something, you know what I mean? Like maybe that retails it a
- 1:01:10Loki either GOMI gang because of how like the just like the
- 1:01:14feeling that they give or like something like TTNG or yeah, I'm
- 1:01:20a lock that in one of those two. How about?
- 1:01:23Knuckles. Knuckles, man, Knuckles is some
- 1:01:28like drug church stuff or like and Knuckles is like drug church
- 1:01:33or like and I that sounded like I was like like shitting on drug
- 1:01:36church. I'm not, I'm not like they seem
- 1:01:39like wonderful people. I haven't personally like
- 1:01:41listened to them, but they're also on the list.
- 1:01:43They're knuckles like drug church or like a current band in
- 1:01:49this lineup, Man, I don't even know, but probably drug church.
- 1:01:54I think like I don't know why that those two like kind of
- 1:01:56clicked in my brain. It's I saw them and they were
- 1:01:58really good. And that dude's voice just kind
- 1:02:01of gives me like knuckles in my in my mind.
- 1:02:04So you got that? Amy Rose, Amy.
- 1:02:08Rose. Oh my gosh.
- 1:02:11I think Amy Rose. Personally.
- 1:02:13Out of everyone in the Sonic universe that we've brought up
- 1:02:16so far, I think Amy Rose would be the most tapped in into this
- 1:02:19scene. Out of any.
- 1:02:22Of the other Sonic characters, Susan gives me the vibes that
- 1:02:25she would really like to go to shows so I'd be able to show.
- 1:02:30With Amy Rose, I would I would hang out.
- 1:02:32With Amy Rose, that would be awesome.
- 1:02:33I would, I would want her to like I want to hold the hammer
- 1:02:37just because I want to see how proportionate it would be to me.
- 1:02:40But you know, but I truly feel like Amy Rose would be so tapped
- 1:02:44into this scene. It's not even funny.
- 1:02:48I feel like she would she needs something emotional that I feel
- 1:02:54like that's Amy Rose. Is it like she needs something
- 1:02:56like really emotional? I feel like Amy Rose would
- 1:02:58really like feel like Amy Rose could really like like red Sun
- 1:03:02and like that like veil of bands.
- 1:03:05And I feel like Amy Rose could also be like one of those people
- 1:03:09that's like, you know, she respects the classics.
- 1:03:13I feel like she could be pretty big.
- 1:03:14A Fall Out Boy that gives me. I think Amy Rose and Tales would
- 1:03:18build like Stereosity. That's another one.
- 1:03:20Yeah. I feel like Amy Rose would like
- 1:03:22Stereosity. I'm just, like, unlocking all
- 1:03:27these. I get so nervous in social
- 1:03:28situations that, like, my mind kind of like, shuts off.
- 1:03:30So I'm unlocking other bands. I feel like Sonic could be
- 1:03:33Harrison Gordon, too. I see that 100%.
- 1:03:36Could see that. For sure.
- 1:03:38Oh oh. My gosh, actually, I would see,
- 1:03:43I could see Amy Rose really liking Arm's Length 100%.
- 1:03:47I could see her liking Arm's Length a lot.
- 1:03:49I feel like it's deeply emotional, like to where where
- 1:03:53she needs to be that unrequited love for Sonic she has.
- 1:03:56I feel like that's like that, that like arm's length is like,
- 1:03:59yeah, I'm unlock an arm length for her.
- 1:04:03My last my last character for you is Shadow, of course.
- 1:04:07I have the album actually, that I think Shadow would be into.
- 1:04:10I have a couple actually. I think Blame It on the Weather
- 1:04:14by Kerosene Heights. That's something that Shadow
- 1:04:16would just absolutely eat up. I think that is it brooding
- 1:04:22enough. I don't know that I do love that
- 1:04:24album though. I wouldn't blame anyone for
- 1:04:26loving. That is one of my favorite
- 1:04:28albums of all time. Maybe there's a?
- 1:04:30Darkness to that record that so that like you've really got to
- 1:04:34like hear and I think Shadow fits that.
- 1:04:38I also think Shadow would like the newest arm's length record
- 1:04:42like I really feel like that, but I also really shadow with
- 1:04:45like like Rites of Spring, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:48Like Shadow would be like you'd be like kind of like a
- 1:04:50contrarian, like all the like like stuff like that.
- 1:04:55I think Shadow would also probably like I in my mind,
- 1:04:59especially with, you know, his origin story, I think he kind of
- 1:05:07reflects no closer to heaven. Not to bring up that album for
- 1:05:10like a fourth time on this podcast, but I feel like that
- 1:05:14you can invoke. That album, anytime you want
- 1:05:16that grief. That Shadow has just kind of
- 1:05:19gives me the same vibe. That's a good question.
- 1:05:21I like this. I know I locked down like a
- 1:05:22definite list though, but yeah, I think that Sonic just to give
- 1:05:28like the full list. Sonic probably I'm going to
- 1:05:31actually change him to Harrison Gordon.
- 1:05:35I think Harrison Gordon when Sonic would mix, I think Tales
- 1:05:39would probably be into like if I do like give Tales a band,
- 1:05:44probably Gami gang, I would give Amy, I would give her stereosity
- 1:05:50or like Fall Out Boy Knuckles, I'm still standing on drug
- 1:05:53church. That's like, that's a drug
- 1:05:56church or like or like spray nerd.
- 1:05:58I don't know why those two, but like, but like Apple, but like
- 1:06:02Applebee's bar kind of comes up in my mind when I think of
- 1:06:05Knuckles. Like in this like moment, it's
- 1:06:07like Thrunk Shorts or Straynard. And then I'm given a good shadow
- 1:06:10like Kerosene Heights to the Wonder Years.
- 1:06:12I'm taking that away from Sonic because no closer to heaven is
- 1:06:14just like feel like that's like that shadow.
- 1:06:17The grief is there. You know what I mean?
- 1:06:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:23Well, thank you. That's that I like.
- 1:06:25I like how serious you were about answering all of those.
- 1:06:28I think that's the best. These are the most.
- 1:06:31Serious questions I can answer. So let's let's talk about deer
- 1:06:35Cincinnati for a minute. We've we're at time, but
- 1:06:38whatever if we could talk all. Night.
- 1:06:40I would be OK with that. Just get the best, get the best.
- 1:06:43Keep it rolling. Yeah, keep it rolling.
- 1:06:47I, I'm wearing my Carly Cosgrove hat.
- 1:06:49I talked to Lucas from Carly Cosgrove and we talked, we
- 1:06:53didn't, we didn't even talk about different stuff.
- 1:06:56We only talked about Warhammer 40K and we talked about
- 1:07:00Warhammer 40K for, I'm not joking, two hours.
- 1:07:03And at the end I had to be like, hey, dude, I've I've got to like
- 1:07:07go. Yeah.
- 1:07:08I was like, I don't want to because this is the most
- 1:07:11entertaining. I've like, but I I got to leave
- 1:07:14anyways. I was going to mention.
- 1:07:16The Carly Cosgrove hat. Because they're, they're sick.
- 1:07:20I like them a lot. They're so good.
- 1:07:21They're so sick. They're so good, Yeah.
- 1:07:25But yeah, let's talk to your Cincinnati for a minute.
- 1:07:28You mentioned new music that maybe we should or shouldn't
- 1:07:30talk about. Yeah, let's talk about.
- 1:07:32It when can we? Expect some songs.
- 1:07:34Do you have it's like single dates in mind or?
- 1:07:39We like to keep stuff like I, I don't know, we're always, we
- 1:07:44kind of like, we like keeping stuff under wraps because we
- 1:07:47like surprising people. I think in my personal, in my
- 1:07:50mind, we like surprising people. And, and if I don't speak for
- 1:07:54the whole band, I speak for me. I like when we surprise people.
- 1:07:56I like when people don't expect it.
- 1:07:58But I will say this, I think the newest record we're working on I
- 1:08:05think is some of the most important songs that we have
- 1:08:11worked on to date. Like there's songs that you like
- 1:08:17write and record that are like for you.
- 1:08:22But for me, a lot of this is like a lot of this is for me,
- 1:08:25obviously. But I feel as if this is
- 1:08:28something that fans are going to resonate with pretty heavily.
- 1:08:32It's been a, it's been a hell of a process and we have put in
- 1:08:38very hard work and, and you know, it's been super, it's the
- 1:08:45word I'm looking for. It's kind of escaping me.
- 1:08:48It's, it's been just one of those things where it's like we
- 1:08:51clock in and clock out, but we never really clock out.
- 1:08:55You know what I mean? I'm we're always thinking the
- 1:08:57things that we can add to these songs, take away from these
- 1:08:59songs, things we can change, things we can do just to make
- 1:09:02them the truest expression of ourselves and the truest
- 1:09:07expression of our music. Because something that we have
- 1:09:10always, you know, kind of believed in is just is honesty
- 1:09:15with the records. I we never want to make
- 1:09:18something that isn't true to ourselves.
- 1:09:20We always will. And I think these are and like,
- 1:09:23especially with my like lyric writing process, I think that
- 1:09:26this is the deepest I get to date with some of these songs.
- 1:09:32Not to say that I haven't put the thought behind any of the
- 1:09:37other things I've released, but I think, you know, circumstance,
- 1:09:42circumstance wise, writing the record has weaved into my own
- 1:09:47personal life and I it's kind of on display here.
- 1:09:51I don't want to be I I feel like there's some bands, it's
- 1:09:55throughout the the history of music that aren't really true
- 1:10:01and, and they don't tell the full story and we don't want to
- 1:10:06be that. We're never going to be that.
- 1:10:09I think the only way to have that sort of relationship with
- 1:10:14fans is to be as honest as possible.
- 1:10:16It's like, I don't like, you know, it's not an awesome thing
- 1:10:20to like write about how I've been like a not favorable person
- 1:10:27throughout the years. And, you know, I, I wish I could
- 1:10:33just like kind of scream about, you know, the pursuit of of
- 1:10:37mental fortitude I have been taking.
- 1:10:39But to me, I just don't think that makes a very good record.
- 1:10:44I guess, you know, like if I were to sing about that.
- 1:10:47So I want to be honest with people.
- 1:10:49I want to tell a story. I want I want to tell people
- 1:10:52exactly like how it is. And that's just something I'm
- 1:10:56never going to shy away from. You know, I think sometimes what
- 1:11:00people need to hear is, you know, someone else.
- 1:11:03I think some people can struggle with being honest with
- 1:11:08themselves. And I think that, you know, it
- 1:11:14just kind of takes like an example or it takes like a, you
- 1:11:18know, to take to garner that strength.
- 1:11:22So, yeah, I guess I don't know, like thinking about the record
- 1:11:28is like almost like surreal to me because I'm, I'm very excited
- 1:11:32to show this to the world. Because a big reason why I do
- 1:11:36this is because I know what it's like to be like, 16 years old
- 1:11:40and just listening to a bunch of records up in, you know, my room
- 1:11:46and thinking about the woes of the world and my own personal
- 1:11:50life and the struggles and hardships I've fought.
- 1:11:53And that kind of saved me, especially like, around the time
- 1:11:57that I like, I really got into e-mail music, I had like, you
- 1:12:01know, I'd lost my faith in religion and all that because
- 1:12:05that was just a very toxic community of people.
- 1:12:08And I had, you know, I just lost my mom around that time.
- 1:12:17And so when you feel like the world's ending, when you don't
- 1:12:21have those headphones on, you know, you get this like, special
- 1:12:26feeling. It's almost like the people in
- 1:12:29this community feel something that's a little esoteric to,
- 1:12:31like, everybody else outside of like, that's not under this
- 1:12:36veil. And when we were in
- 1:12:38Indianapolis, our first, like, tour, that we did like really
- 1:12:43outside of the South like that. I remember someone came up to me
- 1:12:47after I was just explaining that to somebody and like his fan was
- 1:12:50just coming up to say like, what a good show.
- 1:12:52And I, this is the type of thing that I like sit up in my room
- 1:12:56and like tear up about if I think about it too much.
- 1:12:58But this fan was like, you know, they were just talking about how
- 1:13:03they like have felt so alone recently.
- 1:13:06And this is like the least alone that they have felt in so long.
- 1:13:10And it doesn't matter what we do with it.
- 1:13:13It doesn't matter if one person or 1 billion people hear it, if
- 1:13:18I can be there to service and help someone feel a little bit
- 1:13:24better about themselves and the the life that they are leading,
- 1:13:30then I have done everything I possibly could as a human being,
- 1:13:34right? You know what I mean?
- 1:13:36There's a lot of hate in this world.
- 1:13:39There's so much of it. There's so much just
- 1:13:42disgustingness that just kind of like clog, you know, the
- 1:13:47Airways. And as vocal as I am about the
- 1:13:53things that are going on, whether that be in the world, in
- 1:13:57our country, you know, I feel like as if in the band too,
- 1:14:05we're trying to do something that might help a little bit,
- 1:14:11you know, take kind of ease that wound.
- 1:14:15Because I mean, it's a scary, the world is a scary fucking
- 1:14:17place right now. It's it's horrifying on top of
- 1:14:21just, you know, people who suffer with, you know, mental
- 1:14:25illness. It's a scary place.
- 1:14:26So, you know, whatever we can do to help, especially because we
- 1:14:29have a platform, you know, like we have a platform to be able to
- 1:14:33speak up for the people who don't have a voice and to help
- 1:14:39the people who who need it that, that feel like the world has
- 1:14:43abandoned them and, and not to get like, like existential about
- 1:14:48it and think about like, oh, what's my point in life?
- 1:14:49Or like make it sound like I'm like, we're like superheroes.
- 1:14:53But I think that a lot of bands, after meeting them and talking
- 1:14:56to them and becoming friends, feel, you know, eerily similar
- 1:15:03where, you know, we all recognize, especially in this
- 1:15:06space, that like, it's a shitty place out there.
- 1:15:09And we're doing this for ourselves because it's a, it's
- 1:15:12like the greatest form of therapy.
- 1:15:13But we know that there are people out there that when they
- 1:15:16hear it, their day just gets a little brighter.
- 1:15:19And to speak only for myself, that puts a smile on my face,
- 1:15:24especially when, you know, you feel like you're not doing
- 1:15:27anything. You're just kind of saying
- 1:15:28stagnant. So yeah.
- 1:15:30The new record I feel is is as serviceable as I could get to my
- 1:15:37community and to give back to the wonderful people that I've
- 1:15:41met throughout the time of this crazy ass journey that's been
- 1:15:46this band. Yeah.
- 1:15:50So that that the new record is is it's pretty good.
- 1:15:53I think. So I think we all think so that
- 1:15:55the new record and just sonically it's a new shift for
- 1:15:59us a little bit. It's nothing like different.
- 1:16:02But I mean, we've only gotten better as a band and I think
- 1:16:05this is on full display. So, you know, look out for that
- 1:16:11in stores on November 13th alongside the Gummy Bear record
- 1:16:14or album. Gummy Bear album.
- 1:16:16November 13th is not a real date by the way, but that is the real
- 1:16:19date for the Gummy Bear album. That's that's the Gummy Bear
- 1:16:23album. So.
- 1:16:25You said a lot, but I wanted to, I just one of the things that I
- 1:16:28thought of while you were talking, I saw an interview with
- 1:16:32Supe from, from the wonder years and he was saying he's like,
- 1:16:39he's like, I, I write a lot of very like specific stuff.
- 1:16:42And I at first like, I thought like, maybe I shouldn't be
- 1:16:44writing this. And then I was like, I don't
- 1:16:47really care. I'm going to write about like
- 1:16:48what I feel. And it's like, and that
- 1:16:50resonates a lot with people because they know how like
- 1:16:55honest it is. They can feel of like and sense
- 1:16:58like the, the sincerity behind it.
- 1:17:00And I think that there really is something to be said about that.
- 1:17:03Like people can smell the bullshit.
- 1:17:05Like if if especially. In a world where where bosses
- 1:17:09and billionaires and politicians spend their entire day breaking
- 1:17:13people's backs and lying, I think people really fucking
- 1:17:17appreciate when someone is honest.
- 1:17:19You know, when someone's finally honest about something.
- 1:17:23So, and, and I, I like that mantra of like writing things
- 1:17:26that are like super true to yourself and like not really
- 1:17:29caring because that's how I've always been.
- 1:17:30I got my start in punk bands, so I really didn't care what I
- 1:17:32wrote about. I only wrote about what I wanted
- 1:17:34to. But learning to, to write for
- 1:17:37yourself but have other people resonate with it is just like,
- 1:17:43it's like unlocking your third eye for music, you know what I
- 1:17:46mean? Like that's just something
- 1:17:47that's like, like that's, that's it's, it's a beautiful world of
- 1:17:51people. The other thing.
- 1:17:53The other thing. That came to mind while you were
- 1:17:55talking is you remind me a lot of Rylan from from Gamma Gang,
- 1:18:00just the way that you speak. And like, I mean, that is like
- 1:18:03the most sincere compliment because I would say that they
- 1:18:05are maybe. I don't know.
- 1:18:08I don't know if I'd say they're my favorite band, but if not my
- 1:18:11favorite then like second or third at yeah.
- 1:18:14I don't know. I could.
- 1:18:15Say One man is my favorite but they are definitely towards the
- 1:18:18top and thank you. I did also just like spend like
- 1:18:23like like a couple weeks with Ryland somewhere recently.
- 1:18:26So some of it's probably like rubbing off on me.
- 1:18:29Some of it's like inflictions have probably rubbed off on me
- 1:18:32just a little bit. But thank you.
- 1:18:36Now I that he's a fan, like I don't even know where to start
- 1:18:39with Ryland. Fantastic music.
- 1:18:41I should think that. You guys just talked about
- 1:18:43Pokémon the whole time. There was some.
- 1:18:45Pokémon talk. Don't don't worry.
- 1:18:47We talked oh there, don't worry world.
- 1:18:49We talked about some Pokémon that's actually on my.
- 1:18:54On my short list of people, he Ryland is one of the people I
- 1:18:57thought about when I when I was like coming up with the concept
- 1:19:00of like what I wanted to do for a podcast.
- 1:19:02Like talking to Ryland about Pokémon is like, yeah, pinnacle
- 1:19:06of where I want to get to actually when I.
- 1:19:09I was, we were, we were working on the record when we had
- 1:19:14communicated about doing an episode and I was going to, I
- 1:19:19like, I was thinking, I was like, man, this is something
- 1:19:22Riley needs to go on because I feel like anyone can talk
- 1:19:25Pokémon. I can talk Pokémon.
- 1:19:26I mean, you can see the Snorlax, yeah, right above the.
- 1:19:30Portal I can talk. Right, right above the the pale
- 1:19:34gleam. I can talk.
- 1:19:36About. Pokémon.
- 1:19:38But Ryland can talk like circles around everyone about Pokémon.
- 1:19:42I've never met a human being who knows more about it and like,
- 1:19:49yeah, Ryland. 'S up there in my list of of
- 1:19:51people to to get one of these days I need to.
- 1:19:54See, I was big in the card game growing up.
- 1:19:57I need to see like a Pokémon tournament of emo bands, what
- 1:19:59with the card game. Like, I feel like the video game
- 1:20:02is there, but Nah, we need we need to bring the card game.
- 1:20:04They're making a lot of safe rejection for like Yu-gi-oh 2.
- 1:20:08Let's see, I think it's got. My sports deck and we'll play.
- 1:20:13I think it's. Sports.
- 1:20:14I saw someone talking today about how they're on tour and
- 1:20:17they're just spending all their time shiny hunting for like

- 1:21:11Dude, that's the lineup. We should do a live episode
- 1:21:15there with the whole band gonna get a full live thing going.

- 1:21:54I'm excited to have all all four of you at the same time.
- 1:21:57It's going to be. Like it's going to be like a
- 1:21:59fest, but it's going to be like a, a music enjoyer's like dream,
- 1:22:04but only if you enjoy adjust the sales, dear Cincinnati trash and
- 1:22:07dear Marianne, if if you're a music enjoyer, but that's what

- 1:22:15This is all you need. You're, you're talking about me.
- 1:22:19I, there have been some great tours this year.

- 1:22:26and we aren't, aren't we amphibians and football head.
- 1:22:32And then Riley was just on tour with Kerosene Heights and Bugsy.
- 1:22:40And then what was the other one? Carly Cosgrove and Leisure Hour
- 1:22:44and Summer Brews were all on tour.
- 1:22:46Leisure. Hour I love the I love.
- 1:22:48I could not stress enough how much I love the people from
- 1:22:52Leisure Hour, Frank and Reagan. My goats love them to death.
- 1:22:58Yeah dude, love those fun. Yeah.
- 1:23:01I've never met a group of people.
- 1:23:02I I told this to to the people back home.
- 1:23:05I was like, I've never met like, especially like Reagan.
- 1:23:08I've never met someone who like as quickly like treated me like
- 1:23:12their best friend from the second I met them.
- 1:23:15Like it was like it was the only thing I've heard.
- 1:23:17About them, yeah, is that they are just amazing.
- 1:23:19I was. I was thinking I was like, Oh my
- 1:23:23gosh, I might actually like be this person's best friend.
- 1:23:26I was like, damn, I was. I was like, I was like, God, I
- 1:23:29was like I said, this is so like.
- 1:23:32The new song, the new Reagan song from Leisure Hour.
- 1:23:36Look at me. I think.
- 1:23:37Yeah, so. Fire so.
- 1:23:40I've been listening to that almost non-stop for the last
- 1:23:44week since it came out. It's so good.
- 1:23:48Anyways, I've kept you for a really long time.
- 1:23:51I appreciate. Is there anything else?
- 1:23:52I mean anything else you want to plug?
- 1:23:54Anything else you anything else I want to?
- 1:23:56Plug, is there anything you left on the?
- 1:23:58Table. What did we what?
- 1:24:00What else did I put in that list?
- 1:24:04World events I think was one of them.
- 1:24:06Just like to keep. Up to date with world events.
- 1:24:09What am I allowed to say? Whatever you.
- 1:24:11Want all right. Whatever I want.
- 1:24:16Open it up. This is a very.
- 1:24:18This is a very, I mean, I, I wouldn't say it's a political
- 1:24:23podcast, but I am sure that my politics and morals and ethics
- 1:24:27probably align very much in your direction.
- 1:24:30So if this. Is the last thing I can say like
- 1:24:33if this is like the last thing like we have time for I will say
- 1:24:36this and this is my message to anyone forming a band or bands
- 1:24:39right now. Use your platform to speak up,
- 1:24:42please. There it's use your platform to
- 1:24:46speak against the the terrors of the world right now.
- 1:24:50I really every time I like to open my phone, it's like guess
- 1:24:53what they just signed in that you got a die law and so use
- 1:25:00your platform to speak up please.
- 1:25:02That's all. That's all I can really say.
- 1:25:04It's like, no matter. Like I think, you know, having a
- 1:25:07distraction from the world is cool, but also like if you have
- 1:25:11the platform, you need to use it even just a little bit.
- 1:25:15Yeah, You know what I mean? I stand on.
- 1:25:18Business, yeah. Fuck, as I say in every show,
- 1:25:22fuck ICE, fuck Israel, protect trans youth, fuck Christian
- 1:25:27nationalism. You know the chains of
- 1:25:32capitalism will break one day if we just keep together and strong
- 1:25:37is what is truly like the way that I can I'm gonna put it.
- 1:25:43But yeah, usual platform speak up.
- 1:25:45I guess like I that covers the the world events and social
- 1:25:48issues and I think we got everything on that list.
