Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Vincent Megaviny uk Europe correspondent, and we will start with that. Actually,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ukraine has suffered a huge drone strike with Russia threatening
- 0:09Speaker 1: to use new types of missiles on Kiv. The Evincent, Yeah,
- 0:14Speaker 1: that's right.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Overnight Ukraine suffered a huge attack once again on its
- 0:18Speaker 2: power grid Royy in winter here in Europe, it's very
- 0:22Speaker 2: cold in Ukraine and it's left around a million people
- 0:26Speaker 2: without power after they struck twelve targets. This is a
- 0:30Speaker 2: pattern they've been following over recent months to really try
- 0:33Speaker 2: and make this winter as difficult and horrible as possible,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and that warning as well that they might use that
- 0:39Speaker 2: new missile. Now, last week when I spoke to you,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Ukraine had suggested it was potentially an ICBM without a
- 0:45Speaker 2: nuclear warhead on it, but we now know it was
- 0:47Speaker 2: some kind of new type of missile that Russia's developed
- 0:51Speaker 2: that Western governments are scrambling to try to understand, and
- 0:54Speaker 2: they have threatened more attacks, particularly in what they're saying
- 0:58Speaker 2: is the sort of power centres, decision making centers, so
- 1:01Speaker 2: that would be central Key trying to possibly destroy the
- 1:04Speaker 2: government and.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Very quickly the nit migration revised figures from twenty twenty three.
- 1:09Speaker 1: How do you lose one hundred and sixty six thousand people?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, quiet, and just to frame this, when the Conservatives
- 1:15Speaker 2: came into governments in twenty ten, they promised that they'd
- 1:18Speaker 2: get migration underneath six figures, so net migration would be
- 1:22Speaker 2: less than one hundred thousand. When they left their final
- 1:25Speaker 2: full year, it turns out that they had claimed in
- 1:28Speaker 2: the twelve months to June twenty twenty three only net
- 1:31Speaker 2: migration was only and I say only seven hundred and
- 1:34Speaker 2: forty thousand. It was in the fact nine hundred and
- 1:37Speaker 2: six thousand. That is a huge revision and there are
- 1:40Speaker 2: questions about why that revision is so drastic. We have
- 1:44Speaker 2: found out the latest in the twelve months to June
- 1:46Speaker 2: this year it has fallen back to seven hundred and
- 1:48Speaker 2: twenty eight thousand. But we know from what's happening in
- 1:52Speaker 2: governments around the world, the US and Europe as well,
- 1:55Speaker 2: if Labor can't bring that number down then they'll likely
- 1:58Speaker 2: be punished at the election in five years time.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Thanks so much for that. That's Vincent mcaviny, our UK
- 2:02Speaker 1: europe correspondent.
