- 0:14Speaker 1: Henry Radio Show and the Phil Henry Podcast. Our radio
- 0:16Speaker 1: show went for sixteen years and we've got about six set.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Well, we've got about.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Ten years, twelve years, thirteen years worth.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Why did I say six or seven? It's just you're
- 0:26Speaker 2: kind of stuck there, you know.
- 0:27Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We've got about ten eleven years of our radio archived. There,
- 0:31Speaker 1: radio show archived, the great Radio Hall of Fame show.
- 0:35Speaker 1: So if you want to listen to that, and that
- 0:37Speaker 1: was the show that kind of put us on the map,
- 0:39Speaker 1: you want to hear our new podcast, the Bobby Dooley
- 0:41Speaker 1: podcast ELCOT The Next Step, because we've taken it beyond
- 0:44Speaker 1: that into places that I guess, you know, my brain
- 0:47Speaker 1: goes wherever that is. You don't know, I don't really know.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So get a backstage pass and hear what's going on.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Man.

- 1:16Speaker 1: year's subscription, you got access to all of it, a
- 1:19Speaker 1: backstage pass to the world famous Phil Henry Show. We
- 1:22Speaker 1: like to say it's the greatest value online general. What
- 1:27Speaker 1: it's the greatest value on oh oh, other than porn? Right,
- 1:30Speaker 1: other than porn. Welcome everybody to our Radio Archive Hour.
- 1:33Speaker 1: This is now the primary presentation if you will, daily
- 1:39Speaker 1: on our free feed to all of you wonderful people,
- 1:41Speaker 1: the Radio Archive Hour. It's a hour of our radio archive.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's an hour from our what we used to call
- 1:47Speaker 1: the classic hours. These are the award winning shows we did.
- 1:51Speaker 1: They're Radio Hall of Fame shows that we did that
- 1:54Speaker 1: basically entailed me interviewing characters that I was also performing.
- 1:59Speaker 1: The people that called real people. They thought these characters
- 2:02Speaker 1: were real. They talked to them, they got angry at them,
- 2:04Speaker 1: they threatened them. We did not pay callers. We didn't,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, I have fake callers. I don't like that
- 2:10Speaker 1: kind of thing. I'd blow my brains out if I
- 2:12Speaker 1: knew that was happening. No, we actually got real callers
- 2:15Speaker 1: to call in and talk to these made up voices,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and that's what we did. What was it about, I
- 2:20Speaker 1: don't know, a satire of talk radio. Some people say
- 2:23Speaker 1: that our radio show was the final bullet through the
- 2:25Speaker 1: head of talk radio, and the rest of it has
- 2:27Speaker 1: just kind of gone downhill. I don't know if that's
- 2:29Speaker 1: anything to be proud of.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, save us here. Yeah, you know, you put
- 2:32Speaker 2: a bullet through the radio head. You know, what do
- 2:35Speaker 2: you mean? A bullet through the radio head?
- 2:36Speaker 1: So anyway, what I'm trying to say is this is
- 2:39Speaker 1: a great satire of talk radio radio, the media or medium.
- 2:45Speaker 1: The world famous Phil Henry show. Tonight we have Ted Bell,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and Ted Bell was the restaurant tour there from Beverly Hills,
- 2:51Speaker 1: who talks about the kind of low grade client tell
- 2:55Speaker 1: his restaurants getting All of these are people who listened
- 2:57Speaker 1: to my show, and he doesn't like it. He doesn't
- 3:01Speaker 1: like these people that are walking in who don't have
- 3:03Speaker 1: any class that I'm sending to his restaurant.
- 3:09Speaker 2: He's still Henry.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Sad of Beverly Hills Steakhouse.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Come on.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Bell from Ted to Beverly Hills. Let me tell you
- 3:24Speaker 3: we have got pork Rose, pork wine all day Prime rib.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I can't it's I gotta get back to work. Do
- 3:33Speaker 3: you want to boot on meat in?
- 3:35Speaker 2: You all right with us?
- 3:38Speaker 4: As Ted Belly, sponsor of this portion of the Phil
- 3:41Speaker 4: Henry Show, Ted to Beverly Hills and we join Ted.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You're at the restaurant tonight working a lot of what
- 3:48Speaker 4: we do on the radio effects advertisers, and I wanted
- 3:51Speaker 4: to ask you about that in light of recent FCC
- 3:55Speaker 4: rulings I wanted to ask you about and plus you
- 3:58Speaker 4: requested to come on the show and sort of talk
- 3:59Speaker 4: with this a little bit about that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Well, I think it's important Phil too, I guess, to
- 4:05Speaker 3: let your listeners have an inside view of how we
- 4:08Speaker 3: relate as advertisers. I had a question for you about
- 4:12Speaker 3: some of your material. I don't like to be and
- 4:14Speaker 3: I'm not one of those sponsors who who I guess
- 4:17Speaker 3: you could they stick. There's those that are programming. You're
- 4:20Speaker 3: the talent. I'm the sponsor but I had a question
- 4:23Speaker 3: for you. Sure, I've heard you on your program lately
- 4:27Speaker 3: talking an offload about gas prices.
- 4:30Speaker 4: And all right, now, for people who just joining us,
- 4:32Speaker 4: these topics, whether it's gas prices, whether it's some more
- 4:38Speaker 4: serious news, these have an effect on an advertiser, right, Well,
- 4:41Speaker 4: I think what you.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Need to do is remember something specific about me. You know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: I'm Ted Bell I own ted to Beverly Hills in
- 4:49Speaker 3: one of the most successful stake houses in America. I
- 4:51Speaker 3: can afford the gas prices. People who eat in my
- 4:54Speaker 3: restaurant are the kinds of people that can afford the
- 4:58Speaker 3: gas prices. So when you're so, when you or other
- 5:02Speaker 3: other guests are complaining about the gas prices, that really
- 5:05Speaker 3: doesn't have anything to do with me.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Okay, And remember I'm Tied Belle.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I have one of the most successful steakehouses of America.
- 5:11Speaker 3: When I'm buy airtime, I want to reach people that
- 5:13Speaker 3: are my kind, you know, my kind, and that come
- 5:16Speaker 3: to my restaurant.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Well, all right, I appreciate the money that you spend
- 5:19Speaker 4: on my show, and I'm happy to these spots of
- 5:21Speaker 4: the show. But are you talking about people? Are people
- 5:26Speaker 4: are concerned about gas prices?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Right, Well, I'm not and not the people that eat
- 5:31Speaker 3: it by restaurant. That's what I guess I'm trying to
- 5:33Speaker 3: say to you. We've had people coming in and this
- 5:37Speaker 3: is I guess this is more business than it is
- 5:40Speaker 3: something for your show.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Go ahead, let's we can talk about this because I
- 5:44Speaker 4: think it's important for people to know how business works.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Well, we've had a lot of people coming in who
- 5:48Speaker 3: are not the kind of people that you would want
- 5:50Speaker 3: to have, necessarily that I would want to have. You
- 5:53Speaker 3: know that people would see in my restaurant, that not
- 5:57Speaker 3: that we are in a family place, about that we
- 5:58Speaker 3: don't that we don't want everyone's business.
- 6:01Speaker 4: What are you saying that me talking about gas prices
- 6:05Speaker 4: is sending into your restaurant the wrong kind of a customer.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Again, I want to say this, I can afford gas,
- 6:12Speaker 3: so can my customers. But I'll give you an example.
- 6:15Speaker 3: We had a little bit of chaos here the other night.
- 6:17Speaker 3: A couple came in. They drove in from Temple City.
- 6:19Speaker 3: It was a man and a woman. They heard about
- 6:22Speaker 3: a restaurant on your show. Now, he comes in wearing
- 6:26Speaker 3: a cardigan sweater and she's got on a polyester pantsuit
- 6:29Speaker 3: and I said to him when he left, I said,
- 6:31Speaker 3: you can't come in here looking like that. And I
- 6:36Speaker 3: told Carry to seat them.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And I think they had on because he didn't have
- 6:39Speaker 2: a suit on.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Well, let's ship be finishing the story. I told Carry
- 6:43Speaker 3: to go ahead and seat them. He came over. Brad
- 6:46Speaker 3: Our waiter came over and looked visibly shaken. They had
- 6:48Speaker 3: asked if we had anything like a Patty melt on
- 6:51Speaker 3: the menu. Now those people are heard about my restaurant
- 6:55Speaker 3: for your show. So I guess what I'm asking is,
- 6:57Speaker 3: you know, what are you trying to do to me?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I'm not were you upset that the guy who was
- 7:02Speaker 4: wearing a cardigan sweater?
- 7:03Speaker 3: You can't you can't come into my place looking like that.
- 7:06Speaker 3: You can't come into my place looking like that. Again,
- 7:09Speaker 3: My customers don't care about yet. You talking about gas
- 7:14Speaker 3: prices means you got people who are gonna come to
- 7:17Speaker 3: my restaurant looking like that.
- 7:20Speaker 4: You see, and so all right, but you don't stick
- 7:24Speaker 4: your nose into the material of somebody's eye.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I don't want to, but I'm asking you to understand that.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Teds of Beverly Hills again again, I'm Ted Bell. You
- 7:32Speaker 3: know you ask the people of Beverly Hills what I've
- 7:34Speaker 3: done business wise. They know very well and I've done
- 7:37Speaker 3: business wise. And to send people into my restaurant looking
- 7:40Speaker 3: like him, I think sends the wrong message. And what
- 7:45Speaker 3: I'm asking you to do is to not talk about
- 7:48Speaker 3: these kinds. I can't afford this. The affordability of things
- 7:52Speaker 3: I think hurts me, Ted Bell because it sends people
- 7:56Speaker 3: in who are looking at it. You know the price
- 7:58Speaker 3: of things you come to teds Beverly, here's you. You get
- 8:00Speaker 3: the greatest stake you ever had in your life. You're
- 8:02Speaker 3: gonna look at the price on the menu. Well, I'll
- 8:04Speaker 3: tell you what. There's a beautiful Tony Romas about a
- 8:06Speaker 3: mile down. We've got an outback steakhouse over here.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Uh.
- 8:11Speaker 3: But you can't come into my place looking like that.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And so this is these are the things that can
- 8:15Speaker 3: serve me.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Built all right?
- 8:16Speaker 4: Ted Bella's with us. Our number is one eight hundred
- 8:18Speaker 4: four four nine eighty six eighty six. One eight hundred
- 8:21Speaker 4: four four nine eighty six eighty six. This was a
- 8:24Speaker 4: question I was talking with David G. Hall about should
- 8:27Speaker 4: I be talking about certain topics when they may not
- 8:30Speaker 4: make advertisers happy? But and me talking about the affordability
- 8:35Speaker 4: of things like gas prices sends to you customers that
- 8:39Speaker 4: are worried about the price of something.
- 8:40Speaker 3: It sends to me customers they are not necessarily looking
- 8:43Speaker 3: for quality. They're looking for they're looking for a free lunch.
- 8:48Speaker 2: And I mean that, Well, they're not looking for a
- 8:49Speaker 2: free lunch.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Well, what they're looking for? These people ask me? They
- 8:53Speaker 3: get a Patty bellery, and I said, well, And finally
- 8:56Speaker 3: Brad asked them, and I had I had our hostess
- 8:58Speaker 3: go over, and they said, well, we don't want to
- 9:00Speaker 3: spend this kind of money on a stake. Well, then
- 9:02Speaker 3: what are you doing in my restaurant. Well, I'll tell
- 9:05Speaker 3: you what they're doing in my restaurant. They came to
- 9:06Speaker 3: my restaurant because of you talking about cheap gas prices. Now,
- 9:11Speaker 3: I got a guy coming into my restaurant in the
- 9:13Speaker 3: cardigan sweater, and I said, you can't come in here
- 9:16Speaker 3: looking like that.
- 9:18Speaker 4: But I am sending your customers, but not the right
- 9:20Speaker 4: kind of customer. But well, you say, not the right
- 9:23Speaker 4: kind of customer.
- 9:24Speaker 3: But the reason you insist on talking about things in
- 9:26Speaker 3: your show that I don't care.
- 9:27Speaker 4: About, But the country Ted cares about gas prices. They
- 9:31Speaker 4: care about the affordability of gas.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Prices, not as much as you think they do. But
- 9:35Speaker 3: the people that drive the economy of this country, this
- 9:37Speaker 3: country field, Let's talk about those people. The people that
- 9:41Speaker 3: are up at four am talking to an overseas bank,
- 9:43Speaker 3: that are on a spending bike at seven am at
- 9:45Speaker 3: talking with brokers on the East Coast, the people that
- 9:47Speaker 3: are going over payrol, etc. And they're talking about gas
- 9:50Speaker 3: prices as you talking about gas prices. As a result,
- 9:54Speaker 3: when my commercial runs at your show, I had a
- 9:56Speaker 3: couple come in. He's wearing these doc and she's in
- 10:00Speaker 3: something she got at the dress barn now and I
- 10:04Speaker 3: walked in.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Is it about clothing, No.
- 10:06Speaker 3: It's not about clothing. But when you see them walk in,
- 10:10Speaker 3: you immediately know these people are going to start breaking
- 10:13Speaker 3: my you know what's over the price. And I've worked
- 10:17Speaker 3: very hard to build an incredibly successful business, joy serving
- 10:20Speaker 3: customers who worked as hard as I have, who build
- 10:22Speaker 3: a business like I have. And I walked into my
- 10:25Speaker 3: office after I saw the guy and his doctors and
- 10:27Speaker 3: the woman is in this dress. And I walked into
- 10:30Speaker 3: my office and I will tell you this, Phil, and
- 10:32Speaker 3: I don't mean to be dramatic, but for the first
- 10:34Speaker 3: time in my life, I poured myself to drink to
- 10:37Speaker 3: steady my nerves. And I haven't done that, really, I
- 10:40Speaker 3: don't think I've ever done that. Maybe after my father
- 10:42Speaker 3: almost lost the business.
- 10:44Speaker 4: All Right, we're talking with Ted Bell. Ted's Beverley Hills
- 10:48Speaker 4: Steakhouse is his business. I should not be talking about
- 10:52Speaker 4: the affordability of things because it's sending you the wrong
- 10:55Speaker 4: kind of customer.
- 10:56Speaker 3: And that's what I was talking with David about.
- 10:59Speaker 4: All right, then let me ask you this. Aren't you
- 11:00Speaker 4: actually trying to censor the material on my show?
- 11:03Speaker 3: I think that's a harsh word, sensor. I'm not trying
- 11:06Speaker 3: to censor. No, I don't think I am. I'm asking you,
- 11:10Speaker 3: with all respect, please understand. You're killing me when you
- 11:16Speaker 3: talk about how can we make gas cheaper? And isn't
- 11:19Speaker 3: it too expensive to go to ball games? Are you
- 11:23Speaker 3: talking to me? The gas prices aren't bothering me. The
- 11:27Speaker 3: people that I know and come to a restaurant, it's
- 11:29Speaker 3: not bothering them. I've the two of my customers have
- 11:34Speaker 3: boxes at the Laker gates. So who are you talking to?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Aren't there more people concerned about it.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It's not about more people. See, once again you're giving
- 11:41Speaker 3: me an argument. I want to tell you something that
- 11:43Speaker 3: maybe you won't like. I've gladly given money to your show.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And what am I what I'm getting in an exchange
- 11:49Speaker 3: of these people? And oh, I love Phil and he's
- 11:51Speaker 3: so funny. And we heard your restaurant on the show.
- 11:54Speaker 3: And they think they're walking into a Tony Robas. They
- 11:56Speaker 3: think they're walking into a Stuart Anderson's.
- 11:58Speaker 4: And well, look, I know do you have a classy place.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I know you have a lot of show business clients.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Well, it's another thing. Larry David was in with his
- 12:05Speaker 3: wife the other night to have a client meal as
- 12:07Speaker 3: couple from Tevil City. Is they're staring at him and
- 12:10Speaker 3: they looked at him. And the last month has not
- 12:14Speaker 3: been good for the radio business. I'm asking you, as
- 12:16Speaker 3: a gentleman to stop talking about gas prices and the
- 12:19Speaker 3: affordability of things because it's just killing me now. It's
- 12:24Speaker 3: killing me and I don't want to have to go
- 12:27Speaker 3: to the FCC and I don't want to have to
- 12:28Speaker 3: talk about this in a threatening way.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Okay, I want to ask you a question. Are you
- 12:35Speaker 4: are you saying you'll go to the FCC and report me.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I feel it's an option. You're murdering my business when
- 12:43Speaker 3: you get on the air and talk about these things,
- 12:46Speaker 3: and what do you think about your kids SAT scores?
- 12:52Speaker 3: This doesn't relate to the individuals to give it a
- 12:54Speaker 3: very as right.
- 12:57Speaker 4: You claimed that my show costs you five thousand dollar
- 13:00Speaker 4: dollars last month, that's correct.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Why because of the signage that I had to put up?
- 13:04Speaker 4: What signage I had to put up a sign that says,
- 13:07Speaker 4: you know, there's a tony Romans over here, there's an outback.
- 13:11Speaker 3: You know, you're sending me out of outback steakhouse people,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and all that does is get me or by bartenders
- 13:15Speaker 3: and the fights throwing them out. So the I mean,
- 13:17Speaker 3: the average check in our restaurant for a party two
- 13:19Speaker 3: is three hundred and fifty dollars. To get these outback types,
- 13:21Speaker 3: it's one hundred and fifty bucks. So when I put
- 13:23Speaker 3: up a sign saying you may want to eat an
- 13:26Speaker 3: outback if you're coming in here, you know thinking that
- 13:30Speaker 3: this is some kind of a sizzler experience. And what
- 13:33Speaker 3: I'm saying to you bail as an advertiser, and I'm
- 13:36Speaker 3: saying to your listeners who make care about gas prices.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I don't. I'm Ted Bell. The people that ken to
- 13:42Speaker 3: my restaurant are individuals that and I'm paying good money
- 13:46Speaker 3: to be on your program.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And well, I can tell you this.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Most of America is very concerned about the affordability of
- 13:54Speaker 4: gas prices.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Most Americans are transient in their opinions. I'm telling you
- 13:59Speaker 3: I need for you to get please stop, all right,
- 14:03Speaker 3: I will blow my advertising and I'll go to the
- 14:05Speaker 3: FCC and I and Phil you know, I've known you
- 14:10Speaker 3: for a long time.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Uh you you would you would? You would write a
- 14:14Speaker 2: letter to the FCC on me.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I would have to because I'm talking about how gas
- 14:19Speaker 4: prices are too high.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I don't care. What does it come to do with me?
- 14:25Speaker 2: But Ted, the people are they giving you money?
- 14:27Speaker 3: The people out there, let's let's talk turkey.
- 14:30Speaker 2: You know they're listening right now, they're listening.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Let's talk turkey. Let's let's put it right out of
- 14:33Speaker 3: the open. Are your listeners giving you money?
- 14:37Speaker 2: No, they're not, they're not.
- 14:39Speaker 3: No, who is you are? Okay, let's see Ted gives
- 14:43Speaker 3: me money? They don't. And I'm giving Ted the argument,
- 14:46Speaker 3: huh so That's why I'm uh, you know, this is
- 14:53Speaker 3: what the quandary is.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Well, it's a quandary for all of us. Ted hold on,
- 14:56Speaker 4: now do you see what I'm see what we're dealing with.
- 14:58Speaker 4: This is what we're dealing with in righte You and
- 15:01Speaker 4: Ted bell'sman an advertiser on my show for probably the
- 15:04Speaker 4: last seven years, and yet this guy is threatening to
- 15:07Speaker 4: go to the FCC on me and he may pull
- 15:09Speaker 4: his advertising because I'm talking about things that he doesn't
- 15:12Speaker 4: care about, like the affordability of gas prices. You heard
- 15:14Speaker 4: him say, I can afford gas prices soaking my customers.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So why are you talking about that.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You're sending in people to my restaurant wearing cardigan sweaters and.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Dresses from the dress barn.
- 15:25Speaker 4: He says he's had to put up a sign telling them, look,
- 15:28Speaker 4: before you come into my restaurant, you may want.
- 15:30Speaker 2: To try sizzler or outback.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Should this advertiser or any advertiser be able to tell
- 15:36Speaker 4: me what to say or anybody what to say on
- 15:38Speaker 4: their show if it's not interesting to them? After all,
- 15:40Speaker 4: they're paying me The world famous Phil Henry Show.
- 15:43Speaker 5: The Phil Henry Show, The addom of Radio Bill Henry
- 16:00Speaker 5: Show is Back.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Hills Steakhouse. Come on, I'm Ted Bell from Ted to
- 16:13Speaker 3: Beverly Hills. I want to tell you we serve a
- 16:16Speaker 3: very good product, but it is expensive. If you're the
- 16:19Speaker 3: kind of person that worries about the price of gas,
- 16:21Speaker 3: don't come into my restaurant. Please don't bother me.
- 16:24Speaker 2: You William see. That's what I'm talking about.
- 16:26Speaker 3: But that's the kind of advertising that I have to do.
- 16:30Speaker 2: What do you mean, don't bother me?
- 16:32Speaker 3: I have to tell these people. Look, so the fact
- 16:34Speaker 3: that I advertise in your show gives I think your
- 16:36Speaker 3: program su prestige. Remember that I've Ted Bell. Why would
- 16:39Speaker 3: you spit on that prestige by catering to the types
- 16:42Speaker 3: of people if we're not going to do anything for you.
- 16:44Speaker 3: The woman who was wearing the polyester suit asked me
- 16:46Speaker 3: if I had ever met you, And I'm saying to myself,
- 16:50Speaker 3: what does that have to do with me? I'm Ted Bell.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I built this restaurant up from nothing.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I know that you built the restaurant.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Ted my charter, and what I'm licensed to do is
- 17:02Speaker 4: to talk about issues that are important.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Important, okay important to who important to your advertisers.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I would think important to the people.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Then, in other words, you don't care about me. And
- 17:16Speaker 3: I'm Ted Bell, and you don't care about me.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I do care about your advertising dollar.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Well, I don't care about the price of gas because
- 17:24Speaker 3: I can afford gas. I can afford the price of gas.
- 17:28Speaker 3: So when you talk about it, I sit at home
- 17:30Speaker 3: and I look at my wife, Barcie. I go, he's
- 17:32Speaker 3: spinning in my face again, and he's sending as a
- 17:36Speaker 3: resultant of my restaurant people they can't come in here
- 17:39Speaker 3: in a dress, bar and skirt.
- 17:42Speaker 4: You see, all right, Charlie, go ahead, you're on the
- 17:45Speaker 4: Phil Henry Show with Ted Bell.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Well, Ted Bell, it doesn't matter what he's bringing forth
- 17:50Speaker 6: on his programming when the people come to your restaurant
- 17:53Speaker 6: and the food is good. But I don't care what
- 17:55Speaker 6: you're saying.
- 17:56Speaker 3: It's the best stake in America. It's the best stake
- 17:58Speaker 3: in America.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Fantastic. You know, one day I'm going to come out
- 18:01Speaker 6: to your area and have that stake and I'm not
- 18:02Speaker 6: going to worry about the gas and my motor coach.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Good. Then what do you calling the show for I'm
- 18:06Speaker 3: talking about? Then you agree with me? Okay, I'm saying,
- 18:10Speaker 3: or mister Henry, I don't care about the price of gas,
- 18:14Speaker 3: so why is he talking about it?
- 18:15Speaker 6: No, it is the people that listen to the program,
- 18:18Speaker 6: who listen to the commercials, who come to your restaurant,
- 18:21Speaker 6: regardless of what they're wearing. If you had the best
- 18:23Speaker 6: stake in the world, it doesn't make a different a film.
- 18:26Speaker 3: I've got an atmosphere. I've got atmosphere in my restaurant,
- 18:29Speaker 3: and one of the things that people come to my
- 18:30Speaker 3: restaurant for when I got Larry David sitting there, or
- 18:33Speaker 3: I've got Dennis Miller sitting there and somebody comes in
- 18:36Speaker 3: wearing doctors and his wife just got her clothes from
- 18:38Speaker 3: the gap, and oh, mister Miller's it's embarrassing to me.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Oh, don't let it be embarrassing to you. Just charge
- 18:45Speaker 6: the money to them, let them pay, and let them
- 18:47Speaker 6: get out of the problem.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Is that phil is is you know you're talking to
- 18:51Speaker 3: these people and there on their level. He's a challenge
- 18:53Speaker 3: your listeners. You're talking about the stock market, high performance cars,
- 18:56Speaker 3: gourve dinning. Give them a challenge, open their eyes to
- 19:00Speaker 3: a world they know nothing about. Okay, And I think
- 19:03Speaker 3: you're gonna really enjoy the Well.
- 19:05Speaker 4: What you're saying is, I'm not talking about stuff that
- 19:07Speaker 4: you're interested in because you can afford the price of gas,
- 19:10Speaker 4: and you're gonna have to get to know the great unwashed.
- 19:12Speaker 4: You want some guy walking in wearing dockers in the
- 19:13Speaker 4: cardigan sweater and what are you talking about him?
- 19:17Speaker 3: What are you killing me? That's the kind of guy
- 19:19Speaker 3: that's gonna go down here to Tony Romas and get
- 19:21Speaker 3: the family pack of the baby back ribs. Oh my god,
- 19:27Speaker 3: you don't understand what I'm talking about.
- 19:29Speaker 2: So, in other words, are you afraid that, like, uh.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Larry David's gonna walk into your restaurant and see some
- 19:35Speaker 4: cat in the cardigan sweater?
- 19:36Speaker 3: Well, what do you think he's gonna want to heat
- 19:38Speaker 3: there again with some guy looking at him? When Larry
- 19:41Speaker 3: David comes by into my restaurant, no one looks at
- 19:44Speaker 3: him like he's a monkey in a cage. He has
- 19:47Speaker 3: a cocktailing. Hey, Larry, how are you doing? I don't
- 19:49Speaker 3: look at him. I was excited the first time he
- 19:52Speaker 3: came in. I asked him for his autograph, and he
- 19:56Speaker 3: put me in my place. He said, if you ever
- 19:57Speaker 3: asked me for my autograph? Again. I'll ever come to
- 19:59Speaker 3: your restaurant again. I come in here to relax and
- 20:01Speaker 3: I don't need you breathing your clam sauce on me.
- 20:03Speaker 3: And I said, you know what, mister David, You're right.
- 20:05Speaker 3: And I never bothered him again. And I don't look
- 20:07Speaker 3: at him. But I got these people coming in who
- 20:09Speaker 3: eat at Uh? Uh Stuart Anderson's he's Stuart. You did
- 20:12Speaker 3: it again, Yeah, you did it again. All right? You
- 20:14Speaker 3: said your customers to my place, and they're looking at him.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You don't look at him. Look at that's right, you
- 20:22Speaker 3: don't look at him.
- 20:25Speaker 2: She's done. On the Phil Henry Show, don go.
- 20:26Speaker 7: Ahead, Uh, Phil Bell, this is done, And I I
- 20:32Speaker 7: can't believe it.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Would you call him Phil Bill, Phil Bill.
- 20:37Speaker 7: Whatever you want to call yourself.
- 20:39Speaker 3: My name is Ted Bell. Done, Ted Bell. Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 7: I am appalled that you would go on your car
- 20:48Speaker 7: and appalled that you would go on there and tell
- 20:51Speaker 7: millions and millions of people out here that make this
- 20:55Speaker 7: country work, make this country go.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Day today the guys I have finally.
- 21:01Speaker 7: Gas that they can barely a forward to get to work,
- 21:03Speaker 7: and you go on the air and say my place,
- 21:06Speaker 7: and I want to d grade somebody that comes in.
- 21:09Speaker 7: You'll play.
- 21:13Speaker 3: What am I supposed to say when some kid walks
- 21:15Speaker 3: up to me and says, where's the dessert bar? I
- 21:18Speaker 3: had to study my nurse with a drink. I don't
- 21:20Speaker 3: have a dessert bar. But this is what Henry sending
- 21:23Speaker 3: into my restaurant.
- 21:24Speaker 7: Why is he sending I'm in your restaurant?
- 21:26Speaker 2: Tell you what? Don hold the line all right? Uh?
- 21:29Speaker 3: Do I have to keep talking to him?
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yes, sir, you do because I'm going to take a break.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Ted's of Beverly Hills is threatening to pull their advertising
- 21:36Speaker 4: because I'm talking about the price of gas and it
- 21:37Speaker 4: doesn't matter to Ted or as customers.
- 21:40Speaker 2: They're rich. Phil Henry Show, The.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Phil Henry Show, Whitney Houston Stealer. The Phil Henry Show
- 21:52Speaker 5: is backed.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Steakhouse.
- 22:02Speaker 8: Come on.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Beverly Hills Steakhouse. I want to tell you it's a
- 22:06Speaker 3: very class experience. We'd like you to wear a suit
- 22:08Speaker 3: coat that you wouldn't mind. We have had a high
- 22:11Speaker 3: incidence of cardigan sweaters. Please look like you belong in
- 22:14Speaker 3: our restaurants. When you come to our restaurant, we'll give
- 22:16Speaker 3: you a great day.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Sports.
- 22:20Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show brought to you by Ted to
- 22:22Speaker 4: Beverly Hills. This is an interesting conversation we're having, but
- 22:24Speaker 4: I left off with Don. I want to get Don
- 22:26Speaker 4: back on the air. Hello, Don, and Don. You were
- 22:28Speaker 4: making a point that Ted, he said, you don't want
- 22:31Speaker 4: certain people in your restaurant. You think my show has
- 22:34Speaker 4: underserved you in that regard because you're getting people in
- 22:36Speaker 4: the restaurant who can't afford your steaks.
- 22:39Speaker 3: That's like a nutshell. Now, why I asked both of you, gentlemen,
- 22:42Speaker 3: am I expected to accommodate individuals who are going to
- 22:45Speaker 3: cheap be out of a booth ordering the porkloin at
- 22:48Speaker 3: twenty five dollars when I could easily have that booth
- 22:51Speaker 3: filled with some very significant players from the business community.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It's fifty dollars a steak, done, done. I'll go with
- 23:00Speaker 3: you first.
- 23:03Speaker 9: Well to start with miss Bell and I appreciate and
- 23:07Speaker 9: I understand your your feeling about this, But at the
- 23:10Speaker 9: same time, you have to understand that the ninety nine
- 23:14Speaker 9: point nine percent of the people that are out here
- 23:17Speaker 9: might not be able to eat at your restaurant. So
- 23:20Speaker 9: how could you blame a man that is advertising for you,
- 23:25Speaker 9: is sending you bad business.
- 23:28Speaker 2: That's my point, what are you talking about?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Ain't he's talking about gas prices. If he talked about
- 23:34Speaker 3: something more significant and meaningful than me and my friends,
- 23:38Speaker 3: I wouldn't get these people in. I had a guy
- 23:41Speaker 3: pulling the other day at a foign escort.
- 23:43Speaker 9: Let me ask something you want to that. Let me ask,
- 23:46Speaker 9: miss Bell, do you write the advertising that this radio
- 23:50Speaker 9: station sends out over the air.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I do all of the commercials myself, as you might
- 23:55Speaker 3: have just used the commercial of was we ked Bell?
- 23:57Speaker 9: I did, and I heard that, and I understand that.
- 24:00Speaker 9: But at the same time.
- 24:01Speaker 3: There is no warsking me to my valets have to
- 24:05Speaker 3: lower themselves and debase themselves by parking a Ford Escort
- 24:11Speaker 3: in a parking lot that up to this point was
- 24:14Speaker 3: accommodating rolls, Royce nine hundred series, Mercedes, et cetera. And
- 24:19Speaker 3: now my valets are having to debase themselves, degrade themselves,
- 24:24Speaker 3: and lower themselves by getting into a Ford Escort.
- 24:28Speaker 9: Sir, you know I drive a Honda. I'd drive a
- 24:30Speaker 9: Honda and a Ford pickup drugs. You are you're You're
- 24:35Speaker 9: slapping me in the face because having something that maybe
- 24:40Speaker 9: doesn't meet your standard. The whole world is not on
- 24:44Speaker 9: your level.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Let me ask you, would you actually make a man
- 24:46Speaker 3: for himself though by parking that for you? You wouldn't,
- 24:51Speaker 3: would you? Of course you wouldn't because you realize it
- 24:53Speaker 3: may be good for you, But you're not going to
- 24:55Speaker 3: ask a man like a valet and a class restaurant
- 24:59Speaker 3: to get in the your truck and park it.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Why not you?
- 25:04Speaker 9: Why would pay him? You would pay him the same
- 25:08Speaker 9: tim whether he was parking a Mercedes or a Ford
- 25:11Speaker 9: picket like.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Well, okay, but I got people that are pulling in
- 25:14Speaker 3: and saying, hey, Ted, I just saw one of your
- 25:15Speaker 3: valets parking a guy's truck. Jesus you get.
- 25:19Speaker 9: Are they gonna leave because they see a truck in
- 25:23Speaker 9: the parking?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Lone ringo?
- 25:24Speaker 3: No, I've been trying to tell you nothing done.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I gotta move on.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Done.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I think you for your call, though, Well.
- 25:31Speaker 3: He didn't know what it's like to spend over twenty
- 25:32Speaker 3: five dollars at a restaurant a guy like that, Because
- 25:34Speaker 3: if you never spent over twenty five dollars, I would
- 25:37Speaker 3: prefer you don't come to tests Beverly Hills, thank you
- 25:40Speaker 3: very very much. Oh my god, the average check that
- 25:43Speaker 3: you're going to we're gonna deliver to you at your
- 25:45Speaker 3: table at Tennis Beverly Hills. Is the around three hundred
- 25:47Speaker 3: and fifty dollars. Now that includes the best thing You're
- 25:49Speaker 3: ever gonna have you voue, also a great final of
- 25:51Speaker 3: California wine, your choice of the dessert. And this kid
- 25:54Speaker 3: that came up to me, and I'll never forget it.
- 25:57Speaker 3: She came up to me because she was with this
- 25:58Speaker 3: couple that came in. They said they heard about the show.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Can Santa Barbara? Excuse me, mister? She says, where's the
- 26:04Speaker 3: dessert buffet? Yeah?
- 26:07Speaker 2: You met? What's wrong with that?
- 26:09Speaker 3: What's wrong with that? Well? Number one, I'm the owner.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I'm Ted Bell, So I'm not mister. You don't come
- 26:14Speaker 3: up to me and ask me where the john is.
- 26:16Speaker 3: You can ask by a hostess, you can ask one
- 26:18Speaker 3: of the servers.
- 26:19Speaker 2: It was a little kid, Ted.
- 26:21Speaker 3: All right, I'll give you that. Where's the dessert buffet?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Okay? The little kid is used to going to uh yeah,
- 26:27Speaker 2: I used.
- 26:28Speaker 3: To go into Press Choice, used to go into soup plantation.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I'm Ted Bell. I built this place with my bare hands,
- 26:35Speaker 3: brick by brick, stone by stone, and you're asking me
- 26:39Speaker 3: to hooor myself by having a valet park your camaro.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I don't think it's right, Phil.
- 26:47Speaker 4: All right, you know what, man, I realize you got
- 26:49Speaker 4: a lot of heavy, heavy cats, but I just personally
- 26:52Speaker 4: feel that you need to have a little bit of
- 26:54Speaker 4: sympathy and understanding for the rest of us that though
- 26:57Speaker 4: you do care about gas prices, and we won't eat
- 26:59Speaker 4: in your restaurant. I guess what am I doing on
- 27:01Speaker 4: your show? All right, it's a good question. Here's Crystal.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Go ahead, Crystal, you're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 27:06Speaker 8: Yes, I would lot to know why you feel like
- 27:11Speaker 8: we should not bring up issues like this. This is
- 27:13Speaker 8: everyday issues. Everybody does not have money, everybody is.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Not What was that? What happened?
- 27:20Speaker 3: Oh? I'm sorry? What what? Someone just pulled in in
- 27:25Speaker 3: a Ford Ranger truck?
- 27:26Speaker 8: What difference does it make what they drive?
- 27:29Speaker 3: I got to take care of this hill.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Okay, Crystal, go ahead, give us your opinion.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Ted's taking care of something in the parking lot and
- 27:36Speaker 4: you feel that it's unnecessary.
- 27:38Speaker 8: I feel that it's unnecessary that he feels like someone
- 27:40Speaker 8: should not fill up in the restaurant in a damn
- 27:43Speaker 8: rolls Royce.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Uh I'm sorry, Phil. A guy pulled up in a Ford
- 27:50Speaker 3: Ranger and wanted at Valeid and I was sick all
- 27:54Speaker 3: over the front of my suit. So I'm gonna have
- 27:56Speaker 3: to change my shirt. If you can give me just
- 27:59Speaker 3: sixty sec and go ahead, can.
- 28:01Speaker 2: You just like I'm gonna ask you something, Crystal? This
- 28:03Speaker 2: is so Henry.
- 28:04Speaker 4: What what do you think about a guy that screams
- 28:06Speaker 4: as if he's as if he's just seen Frank and stun.
- 28:13Speaker 8: It's what It's gross?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:15Speaker 2: And he said he.
- 28:18Speaker 8: Yeah, And he made the remark that he just throwed
- 28:20Speaker 8: up all over the front of his shirt.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 8: I mean that to me is well, I mean what
- 28:25Speaker 8: does he I guess he thinks everybody's back around with
- 28:28Speaker 8: thousands of dollars in their pocket. They don't. We don't
- 28:31Speaker 8: have that. Everybody doesn't have it?
- 28:33Speaker 3: Is this, Crystal, Chrystal step belt. Let me ask you
- 28:35Speaker 3: a question. If I asked you if you wanted pellegrino
- 28:38Speaker 3: or flat water, what what am I talking about?
- 28:43Speaker 8: If I wanted pellegrino or flat flat water?
- 28:46Speaker 3: What's the difference between the two? And Phil, do you
- 28:49Speaker 3: have that Jeopardy music the weekend?
- 28:50Speaker 2: No? I don't have the Jeopardy music, and I'm not
- 28:52Speaker 2: going to make fun of people.
- 28:53Speaker 3: I don't want to make fun of her either. I
- 28:55Speaker 3: just how long time?
- 28:56Speaker 8: Well, you don't have to make fun of Why would
- 28:59Speaker 8: I want to go to And I understand your point
- 29:02Speaker 8: of view, but I want to go to someone's restaurant
- 29:05Speaker 8: that is going to get on it. Okay, let's say
- 29:07Speaker 8: that I don't know what twenty is you and I
- 29:09Speaker 8: want to go out to eat somewhere nice and let's
- 29:11Speaker 8: say my hand.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Wait a minute, because what happened, Ted, I'm very sure.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Can you got to come back? Fum?
- 29:21Speaker 2: Tony? Is that you? What happened?
- 29:24Speaker 3: He's sick?
- 29:25Speaker 4: What happened, Tony? A guy was wearing moccasins. So this guy,
- 29:34Speaker 4: Crystal some Ted is just vomited because he saw a
- 29:37Speaker 4: man walk into his restaurant. It's leather, it's on in
- 29:40Speaker 4: the car and uh and everything is.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Just great here, Crystal.
- 29:45Speaker 8: That's sad.
- 29:46Speaker 4: He puked because a guy walked in wearing leather moccasins. Now,
- 29:49Speaker 4: this is the kind of elitism that I'm talking about.
- 29:52Speaker 8: I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 29:54Speaker 2: And it's yeah, I mean, uh, that's.
- 29:57Speaker 8: I mean, I'll understand happy that someone of our class
- 30:02Speaker 8: would want to go eat every pay that amount of
- 30:05Speaker 8: money for those kind of steaks. I would gladly do it.
- 30:08Speaker 8: But if it if it's gonna bother you, what kind
- 30:10Speaker 8: of car that I was gonna drive? Why would you?
- 30:13Speaker 8: Why would you even bother.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I'm simply saying this, Crystal. Now, let's remember you couldn't
- 30:19Speaker 3: answer my question about Pelogreno and flatwater. But that's okay.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Let me ask you this the lame mignon fish or
- 30:26Speaker 3: beef fish? Say that again, Crystal, b la mignon fish
- 30:32Speaker 3: or beef?
- 30:33Speaker 8: I guess fish. I don't know.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Well now come on, Ted. That's not fair, Crystal, Crystal
- 30:39Speaker 2: flam No.
- 30:40Speaker 8: No, no, you're saying because I couldn't answer a question
- 30:43Speaker 8: like this, are you class education?
- 30:46Speaker 3: All right?
- 30:48Speaker 4: I don't know what's wrong with him, but he is puking.
- 30:52Speaker 8: Why would you even want someone like that advertising on
- 30:54Speaker 8: your show? He can't.
- 30:58Speaker 2: He does.
- 30:59Speaker 4: He can put an awful lot of money into our into
- 31:01Speaker 4: our on our show every year.
- 31:05Speaker 8: Little question I want.
- 31:06Speaker 3: To ask this young lady. Is she weare that I have?
- 31:09Speaker 3: I've gone through three shirts talking to her.
- 31:12Speaker 8: Does it matter?
- 31:13Speaker 3: Yes, mam it does.
- 31:14Speaker 8: When I asked, no, let me tell you something. My
- 31:17Speaker 8: husband is in the military. He has fault for this
- 31:21Speaker 8: country for you.
