Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: It's not the mistakes that kills trust, it's the accountability dodgers
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: There's an air of arrogance and butt covering to the
- 0:02Speaker 1: stench that is Moa Point. Can you smell it? In
- 0:05Speaker 1: a nutshell, the council, the water management company, the contractor
- 0:08Speaker 1: were all a bit shit at their jobs. And Wellington
- 0:11Speaker 1: South Coast has been shat on. Guess how much? To
- 0:14Speaker 1: be precise, 14 billion litres of raw sewage. None of
- 0:18Speaker 1: them took charge of and ownership of the water treatment plant.
- 0:21Speaker 1: They didn't talk to each other or listen enough to
- 0:24Speaker 1: some quite critical information and warnings it turns out. Anyone
- 0:27Speaker 1: getting Mount Maunganui vibes here? But the part that gets
- 0:31Speaker 1: me most, and should get us all, is the no-show
- 0:35Speaker 1: from ratepayer-funded bureaucrats ducking for cover. Council infrastructure leaders, who
- 0:40Speaker 1: clearly are leaders in job title only, did not meet
- 0:44Speaker 1: with the Crown review team to tell them about their
- 0:46Speaker 1: role in this shambles. They were asked for in-person meetings,
- 0:50Speaker 1: they were asked to sit down in front of somebody
- 0:52Speaker 1: and explain themselves, and they ran, they ducked, they gave
- 0:56Speaker 1: written responses. 14 billion litres of Wellington's digested breakfasts on
- 1:01Speaker 1: the beach deserves more than written answers. It's like the
- 1:05Speaker 1: politicians who dodged the COVID inquiry. Why would you not
- 1:09Speaker 1: front up in person unless you had something to hide?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Why would you not speak in person unless you were
- 1:14Speaker 1: worried about what you'd say? Did lawyers and comm staff
- 1:19Speaker 1: at ratepayers' expense review all of these written responses before
- 1:23Speaker 1: you hit send? People don't necessarily lose trust in councils
- 1:27Speaker 1: over mistakes. Mistakes happen to us all. Cover-ups and accountability dodgers,
- 1:33Speaker 1: they're the ones who flush trust down the dunny.
