- 0:00Speaker 1: When justice got ready to take you out, mercy stepped
- 0:04Speaker 1: in and pleaded your case and you are here by
- 0:07Speaker 1: the amazing grace of God. If there's anybody in here
- 0:13Speaker 1: that knows that you are here in the mercies of God,
- 0:17Speaker 1: tell somebody, say, he's talking about me.
- 0:24Speaker 2: This is the part of time.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Well, we started it last week and we're going deeper
- 0:31Speaker 1: into it this week. I'm talking about the message Choke.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It is a part of the series The Verge. As
- 0:36Speaker 1: we go back into it, I pray that you would
- 0:39Speaker 1: pick up where we left off and begin to understand
- 0:42Speaker 1: that you are on the verge of your destiny and
- 0:44Speaker 1: you cannot allow the things around you or the things
- 0:47Speaker 1: that the enemy would plant in you to stop you
- 0:50Speaker 1: from what God has spoken to you. Get this word.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's called Choke. Tell him, sell his wife And now
- 0:58Speaker 1: this is really the kicker. Sell my kids. My future.
- 1:06Speaker 1: My children are my future. It's my destiny. It's what
- 1:12Speaker 1: I leave in the earth as a living testimony that
- 1:15Speaker 1: I was here. Glory to God. So when you sell
- 1:19Speaker 1: my children. You have sold my future. When the servant.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Who owed all of this. Heard what was about to
- 1:28Speaker 1: happen to him. Over the magnitude of his debt. He
- 1:31Speaker 1: collapsed on the floor. threw himself on the mercy of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the master and cried out, have mercy on me. And
- 1:39Speaker 1: he says to me, give him time. Give me time
- 1:43Speaker 1: and I will pay you. Give me time and I
- 1:47Speaker 1: will pay you. And he wept sore and he cried
- 1:50Speaker 1: out to the master for mercy. And instead of the
- 1:54Speaker 1: master giving him time, To pay the bill, he forgave
- 2:02Speaker 1: him the entire debt. Some might say that's amazing. Anytime
- 2:09Speaker 1: you were angry enough to sell me, my wife, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: kids in order to reconcile the debt, that shows you
- 2:15Speaker 1: how strong repentance is. That when I repented, you saw
- 2:20Speaker 1: the repentance as being more valuable than the slavery. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: rather than give me time to pay the debt, you said,
- 2:26Speaker 1: that's all right. We're going to call it even, Stephen.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm going to write it off. The debt is paid.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You're clear. You're free. You're good to go. Now, can
- 2:35Speaker 1: you imagine? The jubilation this man would feel because of
- 2:41Speaker 1: the mercy of the master. Not only does he survive,
- 2:45Speaker 1: but his woman, the one he's connected to, survives also.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And his future. escapes by the mercy of the master
- 2:56Speaker 1: can you imagine what it would be like when you
- 2:59Speaker 1: look down the road and you see what could have
- 3:01Speaker 1: happened to you and how close you came to total
- 3:05Speaker 1: destruction but through no goodness of your own But the
- 3:09Speaker 1: amazing grace of the master who looked beyond your fault
- 3:15Speaker 1: and saw your need and had compassion on you. That's amazing.
- 3:20Speaker 1: That's flamboyant. That's mercy. That's grace. That's deliverance. That's restoration.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I wish I had a metaphor. I wish I had
- 3:32Speaker 1: a simile. I wish I had a parable that could
- 3:35Speaker 1: make you understand. Maybe there's somebody in this room that
- 3:40Speaker 1: should have been dead. You owe the debt to sin.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Some of your friends are dead. You watched them die.
- 3:49Speaker 1: They died. They got AIDS and died. They got shot
- 3:53Speaker 1: and died. They got killed and died. They killed themselves.
- 3:57Speaker 1: They wore themselves out. They didn't make it. And you
- 4:00Speaker 1: was in the same mess they were into. But when
- 4:04Speaker 1: justice got ready to take you out, mercy stepped in
- 4:09Speaker 1: and pleaded your case. And you are here by the
- 4:12Speaker 1: amazing grace of God. If there's anybody in here that
- 4:18Speaker 1: knows that you are here in the mercies of God,
- 4:21Speaker 1: tell somebody, say, he's talking about me. Anytime you were
- 4:30Speaker 1: angry enough to sell me, my wife, and kids in
- 4:33Speaker 1: order to reconcile the debt, that shows you how strong
- 4:36Speaker 1: repentance is. That when I repented, you saw the repentance
- 4:41Speaker 1: as being more valuable than the slavery. And rather than
- 4:44Speaker 1: give me time to pay the debt, you said, that's
- 4:47Speaker 1: all right. We're going to call it even, Stephen. I'm
- 4:50Speaker 1: going to write it off. The debt is paid. You're clear.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You're free. You're good to go. Now, can you imagine?
- 4:57Speaker 1: The jubilation this man would feel because of the mercy
- 5:02Speaker 1: of the master. Not only does he survive, but his woman,
- 5:07Speaker 1: the one he's connected to, survives also. And his future
- 5:12Speaker 1: escapes by the mercy of the master. Can you imagine
- 5:17Speaker 1: what it would be like when you look down the
- 5:19Speaker 1: road and you see what could have happened to you?
- 5:23Speaker 1: And how close you came to total destruction. but through
- 5:27Speaker 1: no goodness of your own but the amazing grace of
- 5:31Speaker 1: the master who looked beyond your fault and saw your
- 5:36Speaker 1: need and had compassion on you that's amazing that that's
- 5:41Speaker 1: flamboyant that's mercy that's grace that's deliverance that's restoration I
- 5:49Speaker 1: wish I had a metaphor. I wish I had a simile.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I wish I had a parable that could make you understand.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Maybe there's somebody in this room that should have been dead.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You owe the debt to sin. Some of your friends
- 6:06Speaker 1: are dead. You watched them die. They died. They got
- 6:10Speaker 1: AIDS and died. They got shot and died. They got
- 6:14Speaker 1: killed and died. They killed themselves. They wore themselves out.
- 6:19Speaker 1: They didn't make it. And you was in the same
- 6:22Speaker 1: mess they were into. But when justice got ready to
- 6:26Speaker 1: take you out, mercy stepped in and pleaded your case.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And you are here by the amazing grace of God.
- 6:35Speaker 1: If there's anybody in here that knows that you are
- 6:39Speaker 1: here in the mercies of God, tell somebody, say, he's
- 6:42Speaker 1: talking about me. Mercy. Mercy. Mercy.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Mercy. Mercy. Mercy.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Mercy.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Mercy.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Mercy.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Mercy.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy. Mercy brought me to it.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Mercy brought me to it. Mercy brought me out of
- 7:19Speaker 1: that relationship. Mercy brought me out of that chaos. Mercy
- 7:22Speaker 1: brought me out of that crazy house. Mercy brought me
- 7:25Speaker 1: out of that situation. Mercy brought me through my childhood.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Mercy let me survive my trauma. Mercy kept me from
- 7:33Speaker 1: losing my mind. Mercy brought me through the attack and
- 7:36Speaker 1: the storm. mercy mercy mercy somebody thank god for mercy
- 7:42Speaker 1: if i don't get anything else done today somebody who's
- 7:46Speaker 1: grateful just help me thank god for mercy mercy stop
- 7:51Speaker 1: the cancer mercy heal the leukemia mercy let you have
- 7:55Speaker 1: a child you wasn't supposed to be able to have
- 7:58Speaker 1: a child You had an abortion and came back and
- 8:01Speaker 1: had a baby. Mercy. Let the child survive. Mercy. Been
- 8:06Speaker 1: on drugs and had a healthy baby. Mercy. Smoking and
- 8:11Speaker 1: had a healthy baby. Mercy. Getting high and your child
- 8:15Speaker 1: wasn't crazy. Mercy. Oh, you ain't going to say nothing
- 8:19Speaker 1: because now you sister so and so. But somebody in
- 8:23Speaker 1: here understands mercy.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Mercy.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Now, sit down. I'm just talking to you. I'm just
- 8:39Speaker 1: talking to you. I'm in cruise this morning. I'm in
- 8:41Speaker 1: cruise this morning. I'm just chilling this morning. Just talking
- 8:44Speaker 1: to you. Just hanging out with the kid. Daddy just
- 8:46Speaker 1: hanging out with the kid. Oh, somebody holler mercy. Have
- 8:53Speaker 1: you ever had somebody say something about you that wasn't true?
- 9:00Speaker 1: Been falsely accused? When you are innocent, And somebody has
- 9:06Speaker 1: falsely accused you. You want justice. Justice is the friend
- 9:15Speaker 1: of the innocent. You can't prove that you weren't there.
- 9:24Speaker 1: You have no alibi. You can't prove that you didn't
- 9:28Speaker 1: do it. And you're just praying. Oh God let justice prevail.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Because when you're innocent. You want justice. Have you ever
- 9:41Speaker 1: had somebody say something about you and it was true?
- 9:47Speaker 1: Come on, it's just me and you. We can be real.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Some of the stuff we want them to shut up
- 9:52Speaker 1: about is not because it's a lie. It's because it's true.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And it's none of your business, but it is true.
- 10:00Speaker 1: shut up when you accuse me of something that I
- 10:04Speaker 1: did not do and I can't prove it I want
- 10:08Speaker 1: justice but when you accuse me of something that I
- 10:11Speaker 1: am guilty of oh y'all gonna get it in a
- 10:17Speaker 1: minute Touch your neighbor and say, I want mercy. Yeah, see,
- 10:23Speaker 1: it's a few folks in here that might need justice,
- 10:27Speaker 1: but the rest of us.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Still to come on The Potter's Touch.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But when somebody is weak in an area that you
- 10:39Speaker 1: have a strength... Now I get to see what's really
- 10:43Speaker 1: going on with you. You will justify the person who
- 10:48Speaker 1: has a weakness where you have a weakness because you
- 10:51Speaker 1: identify with their struggle. But when you run into somebody
- 10:55Speaker 1: who has a struggle where you have a strength, now
- 10:58Speaker 1: I get to see whether you are merciful or merciless. Oh,
- 11:04Speaker 1: y'all ain't going home. What do you do with the
- 11:09Speaker 1: fire that will not go?
- 11:10Speaker 2: The wait is over. God wants to use you in
- 11:13Speaker 2: extraordinary ways now. Great things are ahead of you. You're
- 11:16Speaker 2: on the verge.
- 11:17Speaker 1: You are not just going from day to day, week
- 11:19Speaker 1: to week, month to month, and now you're getting ready
- 11:21Speaker 1: to step into another year. You are standing on the cusp.
- 11:25Speaker 1: of an entirely new awakening. There's a burning desire down
- 11:30Speaker 1: inside of you that will not shut up. I got
- 11:33Speaker 1: the pain, but I got the passion too. I got
- 11:36Speaker 1: the problem, but I got the passion too. I got
- 11:39Speaker 1: a little chatter going on, but I still got the passion.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Life is going to hand you something every day. Take
- 11:45Speaker 1: in what you can get out of it. Let go
- 11:47Speaker 1: of what you can't get out of it. But don't
- 11:49Speaker 1: let anybody hurt you so bad that you shall die.
- 11:55Speaker 2: The wait is over. It's time to make your life count.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Order The Verge today. Visit our website or call 1-800-BISHOP2.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You did it. You slept with her. She calls you
- 12:20Speaker 1: and says, I think I'm pregnant. You don't fall down
- 12:25Speaker 1: and say, give me justice. You fall out on your knees,
- 12:39Speaker 1: tears running down your face, talking about, Lord, if you
- 12:42Speaker 1: get me out of this.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I ain't going to ever do this again. I want....
- 12:56Speaker 1: There is no freedom like undeserved freedom. When you get
- 13:05Speaker 1: the word that you escaped, though you were guilty. See,
- 13:15Speaker 1: you would think that when innocent people are pardoned, they
- 13:19Speaker 1: get happy. But they can't touch guilty people. Because when
- 13:24Speaker 1: you know you had every right to go down in
- 13:28Speaker 1: that last stupid thing you did, but God gave you mercy,
- 13:34Speaker 1: we don't need praise dancers. We don't need praise leaders.
- 13:38Speaker 1: We don't need no great preacher. You'll shout in your
- 13:41Speaker 1: living room. You'll dance all around your house over the
- 13:46Speaker 1: mercy of God. Somebody holler mercy. Then the text says,
- 13:57Speaker 1: that same servant, that one who just got through dancing,
- 14:09Speaker 1: that one who shouted all the way back home, said,
- 14:11Speaker 1: guess what, baby? God got us out of this. That
- 14:19Speaker 1: same servant that same guilty servant that experienced the mercy
- 14:27Speaker 1: of God, you would think the rest of his life
- 14:34Speaker 1: he would be merciful. He was fine till he ran
- 14:44Speaker 1: into somebody that he had power over. Amen. This guy
- 14:55Speaker 1: passed the test when he was powerless. Because when you're powerless,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you got no choice. Don't nobody have to teach you
- 15:12Speaker 1: how to cry. There is not a person in this
- 15:16Speaker 1: room who has got tear ducts unused. You didn't take
- 15:22Speaker 1: no crying class. You didn't take quick books for crying.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Read crying for dummies. Your kindergarten teacher didn't teach you
- 15:34Speaker 1: how to cry. Your mother didn't say, now baby, when
- 15:37Speaker 1: things are too much for you, this is how you
- 15:40Speaker 1: do it. When you are powerless, the first thing you
- 15:49Speaker 1: do is cry. The first sound a baby makes is
- 15:56Speaker 1: a cry. Isn't it odd that a laugh would say
- 16:02Speaker 1: the same thing? It would announce that I can breathe.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Why do babies not come here laughing? Because the one
- 16:13Speaker 1: thing you are promised is tears. And the first thing
- 16:19Speaker 1: you get to practice is It's crying. You may need
- 16:24Speaker 1: to learn to laugh. But nobody will have to teach
- 16:29Speaker 1: you how to cry. I'm almost where I want to be.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Can I go further? He, when he was without options,
- 16:48Speaker 1: passed the test of repentance without fail. But the real
- 16:54Speaker 1: test is when you get back up and you have
- 16:59Speaker 1: power and he runs into somebody who is powerless. I
- 17:05Speaker 1: often tell you that if you want to know who
- 17:07Speaker 1: people really are, don't watch how they treat people they
- 17:10Speaker 1: don't need. Watch how they treat people they don't need.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I always watch how you treat the skycap and the
- 17:17Speaker 1: busboy and the waitress and people who are cleaning up
- 17:21Speaker 1: your hotel room. I don't watch how you treat somebody
- 17:24Speaker 1: that you're trying to get a job from because any
- 17:27Speaker 1: fool's going to act nice when you need something. But
- 17:31Speaker 1: I like to watch how you treat people that you
- 17:34Speaker 1: think you don't need. And I always take note of
- 17:37Speaker 1: it because I understand that if a rose ever reversed,
- 17:41Speaker 1: that's how you would treat me. Come on, somebody. I
- 17:46Speaker 1: pay attention to that. Hallelujah. I pay attention to that.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So the Bible says, that same....
- 18:03Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That same servant... Just let him know I still got
- 18:20Speaker 1: it if I need it. When he got up, when
- 18:26Speaker 1: he wasn't the one wrong this time, now he runs
- 18:32Speaker 1: up on the guy who owes him almost nothing compared
- 18:37Speaker 1: to what he owes. But because it was different from
- 18:44Speaker 1: what he owes. See, we have patience with people who
- 18:48Speaker 1: have our kind of weakness. But when somebody is weak
- 19:00Speaker 1: in an area that you have a strength. Now I
- 19:04Speaker 1: get to see what's really going on with you. You
- 19:08Speaker 1: will justify the person who has a weakness where you
- 19:12Speaker 1: have a weakness because you identify with their struggle. But
- 19:16Speaker 1: when you run into somebody who has a struggle where
- 19:19Speaker 1: you have a strength, now I get to see whether
- 19:22Speaker 1: you are merciful or merciless. Watch this. He runs up
- 19:35Speaker 1: and confronts the brother, snatches him, and chokes him. Chokes him.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Over what he owes him. Not knowing. That what he did.
- 19:57Speaker 1: To the brother he owed. Is what he did. To
- 20:02Speaker 1: the blessing he could have had. When he. Choked the man.
- 20:20Speaker 1: He choked off his own blessing. For the Bible says,
- 20:28Speaker 1: blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. Amen.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And God said, as long as I see you give it,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I will always give it to you. But when you
- 20:41Speaker 1: stop giving it, you will also stop receiving it. Slap
- 20:49Speaker 1: somebody and say, choked. If you don't forgive them, you're
- 20:54Speaker 1: going to choke. If you don't forgive them, you're going
- 20:57Speaker 1: to choke. If you don't get over it, you're going
- 21:00Speaker 1: to choke. If you don't get rid of that attitude,
- 21:03Speaker 1: you're going to choke off. Not only are you going
- 21:06Speaker 1: to choke, your children, your future, your destiny, what God
- 21:12Speaker 1: is about to do, what God has in store for you,
- 21:16Speaker 1: that that your eyes have not seen and your ears
- 21:20Speaker 1: have not heard, them unborn babies, those future promises, you
- 21:25Speaker 1: choke that too. Now, sit down. The reason perhaps the
- 21:43Speaker 1: most minute part of the text screams at me the
- 21:47Speaker 1: loudest because like the dogs in a fight, I understand
- 21:57Speaker 1: the power of the throat.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 22:02Speaker 1: He went for the throat because when you go for
- 22:07Speaker 1: the throat, you break the cycle. Breathe in. Breathe out.
- 22:16Speaker 1: How many times you want to do that? Seven? Anybody
- 22:30Speaker 1: in here? Want to just breathe seven times? Anybody in
- 22:33Speaker 1: the balcony? Anybody up in the top balcony up there
- 22:37Speaker 1: just want seven more breaths? Hold your hand up high.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I can help you with that. If you don't want
- 22:46Speaker 1: but seven more breaths, run down here and I can
- 22:49Speaker 1: answer that prayer for you. I don't have to shoot you.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't have to stab you. All I got to
- 22:58Speaker 1: do is count. seven times and choke. Your prayer is answered.
- 23:10Speaker 1: What happens when I choke you? I break the cycle
- 23:15Speaker 1: of breathing. Taking in what you do need, exhaling what
- 23:22Speaker 1: you don't need. Taking in what you do need, exhaling
- 23:27Speaker 1: what you don't need. What are your lungs? Capacity. Limited capacity.
- 23:36Speaker 1: If you take in what you do need.
- 23:39Speaker 3: And hold on to what you don't need, your lungs
- 23:43Speaker 3: won't have room to take in what's next. And when
- 23:48Speaker 3: your lungs don't have room to take in what's next,
- 23:53Speaker 3: you choke and die.
- 24:01Speaker 1: If your lungs are full of where you've been, how
- 24:10Speaker 1: will you have room for where you're going? Stay tuned.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I've got more for you in just a moment. What
- 24:20Speaker 1: do you do with the fire that will not go?
- 24:23Speaker 2: The wait is over. God wants to use you in
- 24:26Speaker 2: extraordinary ways now. Great things are ahead of you. You're
- 24:29Speaker 2: on the verge.
- 24:30Speaker 1: You are not just going from day to day, week
- 24:32Speaker 1: to week, month to month, and now you're getting ready
- 24:33Speaker 1: to step into another year. You are standing on the cusp.
- 24:38Speaker 1: of an entirely new awakening. There's a burning desire down
- 24:43Speaker 1: inside of you that will not shut up. I got
- 24:45Speaker 1: the pain, but I got the passion too. I got
- 24:49Speaker 1: the problem, but I got the passion too. I got
- 24:52Speaker 1: a little chatter going on, but I still got the passion.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Life is going to hand you something every day. Take
- 24:58Speaker 1: in what you can get out of it. Let go
- 25:00Speaker 1: of what you can't get out of it. But don't
- 25:02Speaker 1: let anybody hurt you so bad that you shall.
- 25:08Speaker 2: The wait is over. It's time to make your life count.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Order The Verge today. Visit our website or call 1-800-BISHOP-2.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Long before the season of trials, God already provided what
- 25:24Speaker 2: you need. Exit strategies. There is a way out.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Mrs. Jakes, she said, I know this is painful, but
- 25:32Speaker 1: when you get the next pain, push! I know what
- 25:39Speaker 1: you're going through is painful, but when you get your
- 25:43Speaker 1: next pain, push.
- 25:46Speaker 2: For your best gift, receive exit strategies plus three prayer
- 25:50Speaker 2: journals in your darkest hour. How can you not feel trapped?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Wherever Jesus is, there will be a resurrection. Wherever Jesus is,
- 26:00Speaker 1: somebody's going to get up. Somebody's gonna get out. Somebody's
- 26:06Speaker 1: gonna get loose.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And for your gift of $ 150 or more, we'll add
- 26:13Speaker 2: a resurrection candle holder set with communion kit when you
- 26:16Speaker 2: visit our website or call 1-800-BISHOP-2. Times are changing.
- 26:22Speaker 1: We must equip the church to be effective and ensure
- 26:25Speaker 1: no church is left behind.
- 26:26Speaker 3: This conference was all The change.
- 26:29Speaker 1: It's amazing. You can't be out there like a long
- 26:31Speaker 1: ranger trying to train yourself. Wisdom that all of the
