- 2:15And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children
- 2:19of Israel before his death.
- 2:21And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Syir unto them.
- 2:26He shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints.
- 2:32From his right hand went a fiery law for them.
- 2:35Yea he loved the people. All his saints are in thy hand. and they sat down at thy feet.
- 2:41Everyone shall receive of thy words.
- 2:44Moses commanded us a law, even an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.
- 2:50And he was king in Jeshurun, when the hands of the people and the tribes of
- 2:55Israel were gathered together.
- 2:57Let Reuben live, and not die, and let not his men be few.
- 3:02And this is the blessing of Judah. And he said, Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah,
- 3:08and bring him unto his people.
- 3:10Let his hands be sufficient for him, and be thou and help to him from his enemies.
- 3:17And of Levi he said, Let Thummim and thy Urim be with thy Holy One,
- 3:23whom thou didst prove at Massah, and whom thou didst strive at the waters of
- 3:27Meribah, who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him,
- 3:32neither did he acknowledge his brethren,
- 3:34nor knew his own children, for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
- 3:39They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law.
- 3:43They shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.
- 3:49Bless, Lord, his substance, and accept the work of his hands.
- 3:53Smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate
- 3:57him, that they did not rise again.
- 4:01And of Benjamin, he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him,
- 4:06and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
- 4:10And of Joseph, he said, Blessed of the Lord be his land, for the precious things
- 4:15of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,
- 4:20and for the precious fruits brought
- 4:22forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon.
- 4:26And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things
- 4:31of the lasting hills, and for the precious things of the earth and fullness
- 4:35thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush,
- 4:39let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head
- 4:43of him that was separated from his brethren.
- 4:47His glory is like the first thing of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns.
- 4:52With them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth,
- 4:56and they that are the tens of thousands of Ephraim, and they are the tens of thousands of Massah.
- 5:02And of Zebulun, he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out,
- 5:06and Issachar in thy tents.
- 5:08They shall call the people unto the mountain. There they shall offer sacrifices
- 5:12of righteousness, for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas,
- 5:16and of treasures hid in the sand.
- 5:19And of Gad, he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gab.
- 5:23He dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head.
- 5:28And he provided the first part of himself, because there in the portion of the
- 5:34lawgiver was seated, and he came with the heads of the people.
- 5:38He executed the justice of the Lord, and his judgments are with Israel.
- 5:43And of Dan, he said, Dan is a lion's whelp.
- 5:47He shall leap from Bashan. And of Naphtali, he said, O Naphtali,
- 5:52satisfied with favor and full with the blessing of the Lord,
- 5:57possess thou the west and the south.
- 5:59And of Asher, he said, Let Asher be blessed with children, let him be acceptable
- 6:03to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.
- 6:07Thy shoes shall be iron and brass, as thy days so shall thy strength be.
- 6:14There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy
- 6:19help, and in his excellency on the sky.
- 6:22The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms,
- 6:27and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee, and shall say, Destroy them.
- 6:33Israel, then, shall dwell in safety alone.
- 6:37The fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine,
- 6:42also his heavens shall drop down dew.
- 6:46Happy art thou, O Israel, who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord,
- 6:51the shield of thy help, who is the sword of thy excellency, and thine enemies
- 6:57shall be found liars upon thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
- 7:03As we move into Deuteronomy chapter 33, we are reading Moses' final blessing
- 7:08over the people of Israel.
- 7:09This chapter is deeply personal for each tribe of Israel, very prophetic,
- 7:15and it's filled with reminders of God's faithfulness from the very beginning of Israel's story.
- 7:21Moses is nearing the end of his life, and before he leaves the people,
- 7:24he blesses them tribe by tribe, just like Jacob did in Genesis chapter 49.
- 7:31These blessings are not random, statements or farewells.
- 7:35They're declarations rooted in God's love that reflect God's character.
- 7:40Israel's history, and God's plan for their future.
- 7:43The chapter opens in verses 1-5 with a powerful picture of God's glory.
- 7:48We see God described as the one who came from Sinai, who shined forth from Sair,
- 7:54who rose up from Mount Paran.
- 7:56These references point to the majesty of God's appearance when he gave the law,
- 8:01reminding the Israelites that the same God who thundered on Sinai is the God
- 8:06who has carried them through the wilderness and has brought them to the cusp of the promised land.
- 8:11Verse 3 tells us something precious, that God loved his people and that they
- 8:16were gathered at his feet to receive his words.
- 8:19Verse 4 reminds them that the law they had received was their inheritance,
- 8:23something given to them as a gift.
- 8:25And verse 5 declares God as the king in Jeshurun, the king over his chosen people,
- 8:31when the tribes were gathered together.
- 8:34Jeshurun was the poetic name for Israel.
- 8:37Beginning in verse 6 and running through verse 25, Moses speaks blessing over
- 8:42each of the tribes of Israel.
- 8:44These blessings mirror their unique character, calling and history of each of
- 8:48the tribes, showing that God knows his people individually.
- 8:52Reuben is blessed with preservation and strength.
- 8:55Judah is blessed with help in battle and unity with the rest of Israel.
- 9:00Levi receives a blessing tied to their priestly role.
- 9:03Their faithfulness during times of testing in their sacred responsibility to teach God's law.
- 9:09Benjamin is pictured as dwelling safely under the special protection of the Lord.
- 9:15Joseph is described with abundant fruitfulness and great strength.
- 9:19Zebulun and Issachar are blessed in their work, their worship, and their partnership.
- 9:24Gad is blessed with expansion and military might.
- 9:28Dan is compared to a young lion. Naphtali is full of favor and blessing.
- 9:33Asher is blessed with strength, security, and abundance.
- 9:38The chapter concludes in verses 26 through 29 with a declaration of God's incomparable
- 9:43greatness and his final blessing over Israel as a whole.
- 9:47God is described as their refuge, the eternal God who carries his people and
- 9:51drives out their enemies.
- 9:53Israel is reminded that they are a blessed people because God himself is their shield and their sword.
- 9:59Moses' final words to them highlight the privilege and the protection that belong
- 10:04to those who belong to the Lord.
- 10:06When we look at Deuteronomy chapter 33, through the lens of applying it to our
- 10:10lives, we see a chapter overflowing with encouragement, identity,
- 10:15and the tender-hearted nature of a God who knows his people personally.
- 10:20This chapter is not simply Moses' farewell address. It is a reminder of who
- 10:24God is and who we are as his people.
- 10:28The chapter opens with a vivid picture of God's glory and God's presence.
- 10:33The same God who descended on Mount Sinai in fire and majesty is the same God
- 10:38who walks with us each and every day.
- 10:40Verse 3 is incredibly comforting because it reminds us that God loves his people
- 10:44and gathers them at his feet to receive his word.
- 10:48For those of us on this side of the cross, this is a reminder that our relationship
- 10:53with God begins with His love and with our response to His voice.
- 10:57We are His because He loves us and because we commit ourselves to learning and obeying His word.
- 11:04As Moses blesses the tribes, we see something beautiful.
- 11:08God's blessings were unique, specific, and intentional.
- 11:13Each tribe received a blessing that matched their calling. In the same way,
- 11:18God knows us individually.
- 11:19He knows our strengths, our gifts, our burdens, and our circumstances.
- 11:25The blessings of God in our lives are not random. They are personal.
- 11:30They are tailored to his purpose for us. Some of the tribes were blessed with
- 11:34strength, some with protection, some with fruitfulness, and some with peace.
- 11:39God meets each of us exactly where we are and equips us in the ways he knows we need.
- 11:46Moses' blessing to Levi reminds us that God values faithfulness.
- 11:51Levi stood with Moses during a time of great sin in the wilderness and was willing
- 11:55to put obedience to God above all else.
- 11:58That faithfulness became the foundation of their blessing.
- 12:02This teaches us that obedience is always worth it. Our choices matter,
- 12:06and God honors those who honor Him.
- 12:09The blessing to Benjamin reminds us of the safety we have in the presence of.
- 12:13God, that we dwell between his shoulders.
- 12:16For those of us walking through seasons of difficulty, grief,
- 12:20fear, or uncertainty, it is a powerful reminder that God holds us close and protects us tenderly.
- 12:28Joseph's blessing speaks of abundance and fruitfulness, reminding us that every
- 12:33good thing we have, whether it be family, work, influence, or success,
- 12:39comes from the hand of God.
- 12:42Blessings are not accidents, they are gifts. The closing verses of the chapter
- 12:47take all of these individual blessings and wrap them up in one great truth.
- 12:51God himself is the everlasting refuge of his people.
- 12:56Israel was reminded that there is no God like our God, the one who rides on
- 13:00the heavens to help his people, who is their shield and their sword.
- 13:05For us, this means that no matter what comes against us, the Lord himself is our protector.
- 13:10We do not face battles alone. We do not walk through uncertainty alone.
- 13:15The God who blessed Israel is the same God who watches over us today.
- 13:20If Deuteronomy 33 teaches us anything, it teaches us that we serve a God who
- 13:26knows us individually, who blesses us intentionally, and who defends us powerfully.
- 13:33It teaches us that obedience, faithfulness, and worship are not small things.
- 13:39They are pathways to walking in the fullness of God's blessing.
- 13:43And it teaches us that no matter what we face, our God is our refuge.
- 13:48Remember, you are loved. Jesus loves you.
