Speaker 6: Brian Hughes says we thought we were in the clear,
• 1:45
Speaker 6: but some areas, he says, could get a pop up
• 1:47
Speaker 6: shower to today. How's going to be the low eighties
• 1:50
Speaker 6: for our flood recovery efforts that are going on as
• 1:52
Speaker 6: we speak on our parking lot at eleven eleven Virginia Street,
• 1:56
Speaker 6: D's and Charleston Moore and that come it up, Brian says,
• 1:58
Speaker 6: showers see if we get him, should taper off the

• 2:01
Speaker 6: be the upper sixties, beautiful day to Mars sun and
• 2:04
Speaker 6: in the mid eighties, slight chance of showers and thunderstorms
• 2:06
Speaker 6: on Sunday. Then the humidity returns as we head into

Speaker 6: next week. Download the Metro News television app. Follow along
• 2:12
Speaker 6: on social media for the best team in weather, Brian
• 2:14
Speaker 6: Hughes and his folks. As I said earlier, our flood
• 2:17
Speaker 6: donation drop is going on now as we speak on
• 2:19
Speaker 6: our parking lot eleven eleven Virginia s Treat, East Charleston.
• 2:23
Speaker 6: This is one of those things. All of our stations

• 2:36
Speaker 6: Talk about it a little bit later on. We're looking
• 2:39
Speaker 6: we can take cash donations. We got folks from the
• 2:41
Speaker 6: Red Cross here. If you're going to write us a check,
• 2:44
Speaker 6: just American Red Cross and in the memo line you
• 2:46
Speaker 6: simply put West Virginia Flood Relief cleaning supplies. We're looking
• 2:50
Speaker 6: for pet food, We're looking for non perishable items, all
• 2:55
Speaker 6: that stuff, and I'll go over the entire list for
• 2:56
Speaker 6: you a little bit later on. Now, we don't have
• 2:58
Speaker 6: Jim Straw today as we normally do to talk about
• 3:01
Speaker 6: Live on the Levee. Live on the Levee is still
• 3:02
Speaker 6: going on, but I think and Strong will be there tonight,
• 3:06
Speaker 6: but he's actually on a plane, I think as we speak.
• 3:08
Speaker 6: But we'll talk about that coming up. Plus, Gnawa County Commission,
• 3:11
Speaker 6: President of Ben Silango is going to stop by. The
• 3:13
Speaker 6: County Commission met last night. Commissioner Selango made a motion
• 3:18
Speaker 6: to appoint Jared Page to the seat that had been
• 3:21
Speaker 6: held by Lance Wheeler, and Commissioner Tenant did not second
• 3:25
Speaker 6: the motion, so it died for lack of a second,
• 3:27
Speaker 6: So the strike process goes into effect. We'll talk about
• 3:30
Speaker 6: that with the Ben Selango coming up a little bit
• 3:33
Speaker 6: later on the show. And of course your calls and

• 3:53
Speaker 6: good morning and happy Friday.
• 3:55
Speaker 7: Good morning, and thank goodness it's Friday.
• 3:58
Speaker 6: Indeed it is all right, is all always? We got
• 4:00
Speaker 6: our pets. Picture posted at Dave Allen Radio and the
• 4:04
Speaker 6: w c HS network facebook pages. Also Dave Allen on
• 4:07
Speaker 6: X tell us about Malcolm.
• 4:10
Speaker 7: So, Malcolm originally came to ksey h a as astray.
• 4:13
Speaker 7: He was very sick and it turns out that he
• 4:15
Speaker 7: had parvo. He has beat parvo. He is now available
• 4:20
Speaker 7: for ad option and stronger than ever. He's great with
• 4:23
Speaker 7: other dogs. He loves to go to play groups and
• 4:25
Speaker 7: play Obviously, he's a three month old puppy, so he's
• 4:28
Speaker 7: gonna have a zest for life that puppies as. He's
• 4:32
Speaker 7: great with kids and I'm sure he would be no
• 4:35
Speaker 7: problem to introduce to Katz. One thing about Malcolm, definitely
• 4:39
Speaker 7: check out his picture. He is so unique looking. He
• 4:43
Speaker 7: has blue freckles all over his face and then red
• 4:46
Speaker 7: freckles all over the rest of his body. So very
• 4:48
  Speaker 7: interesting looking dog.
• 4:50
Speaker 5: I mean when you.
• 4:51
Speaker 6: Sent me that picture last night and I was taking
• 4:54
Speaker 6: a look at. I thought, well, you're right. Unique is
• 4:56
Speaker 6: an interesting way to describe young Malcolm. I mean, what
• 5:00
Speaker 6: kind of dog is he? I mean, do you have
• 5:02
Speaker 6: any idea and are those are? Is the freckling very
• 5:06
  Speaker 6: prevalent in Dulston.
• 5:07
  Speaker 5: I haven't seen a lot of that.
• 5:09
Speaker 7: So the freckling happens in certain breeds. Certain hounds can
• 5:12
Speaker 7: have that, Certain like healer cattle dog mixes can have
• 5:16
Speaker 7: that as well as like certain some pointers can also
• 5:20
Speaker 7: have the freckling pattern. So I would guess that he
• 5:22
Speaker 7: is probably a healer mix just by the way that
• 5:25
Speaker 7: coke pattern looks, but mixed with what is a nice
• 5:29
  Speaker 7: big question mark.
• 5:31
Speaker 5: Well, he is a great, great looking dog.
• 5:34
Speaker 6: I mean, he really really is. And we'll talk about
• 5:36
Speaker 6: him a little bit later on. His name is Malcolm,
• 5:38
Speaker 6: and again his pictures posted on my social media pages.
• 5:41
Speaker 5: I want to talk about the.
• 5:42
Speaker 6: Because we've had several We always have good stories from
• 5:45
Speaker 6: the shelter, Angie, but we always have some that are
• 5:47
Speaker 6: a little sad too. It's been a rough week at
• 5:49
  Speaker 6: the shelter.
• 5:51
Speaker 7: Yeah, it absolutely has. So we have been hit back
• 5:56
Speaker 7: to back to back with animals coming and we've seen
• 6:00
Speaker 7: an uptick in illness of animals that are coming in
• 6:04
Speaker 7: which we are happy to be able to help, extremely
• 6:06
Speaker 7: happy to be able to offer a space and safe
• 6:09
Speaker 7: space for these animals. But with that comes medicine, it
• 6:14
Speaker 7: comes food, comes our staff that have to spend you know,
• 6:18
Speaker 7: eight to ten hours a day taking care of these animals.
• 6:22
Speaker 7: So right now we are definitely in the need of
• 6:24
Speaker 7: donations or if you are able to foster and or
• 6:28
Speaker 7: adopt some of these cases that we are taking on,
• 6:32
Speaker 7: that's also something that can help greatly. But it has
• 6:35
Speaker 7: definitely been a very busy and rough week to be
• 6:40
  Speaker 7: at Caseyha.
• 6:41
Speaker 6: Now did we have and I saw this just in passing.
• 6:44
Speaker 6: I apologize I don't have all the details in front
• 6:46
Speaker 6: of me, but did we have another case where there
• 6:49
Speaker 6: were some kiddies abandoned somewhere that you guys him a possession.
• 6:53
Speaker 7: Of yesterday while our staff were in the building, which
• 6:57
Speaker 7: is kind of like the frustrating part, if you will,
• 7:00
Speaker 7: our staff were there, twenty cats were left in our
• 7:03
Speaker 7: parking lot while our staff members were running play groups
• 7:07
Speaker 7: with the adult dogs and getting things started for the morning.
• 7:11
Speaker 7: So twenty cats were just left in the parking lot.
• 7:14
Speaker 7: If you are in a situation like that, we especially
• 7:17
Speaker 7: if we are in the building, please come talk to us.
• 7:20
Speaker 7: If we can't take the animals right away, we can
• 7:21
Speaker 7: at least give you supplies to care for them. But yeah,
• 7:25
Speaker 7: leaving the animals in a parking lot, we don't have
• 7:27
Speaker 7: one hundred percent history on where they're from, what medicines
• 7:31
Speaker 7: and vaccines they've had, you know, who gets along with who,
• 7:35
Speaker 7: anything like that. So that's that's the difficult part about it.
• 7:39
Speaker 7: And again we will offer resources if it's a matter
• 7:42
Speaker 7: of you know, we can't take them right now, but
• 7:44
Speaker 7: here's how we can help in the meantime.
• 7:46
Speaker 6: I mean, we appreciate people wanting to do the right thing,
• 7:48
Speaker 6: but I mean, you know, come on, if you're there
• 7:51
Speaker 6: and it's doing business hours, knock on the door, you know,
• 7:54
Speaker 6: don't don't just drop them off. Knock on the door,
• 7:56
Speaker 6: no questions ask I mean, you may ask the questions
• 7:58
Speaker 6: about like where did they come from? Do you know
• 7:59
Speaker 6: that been vaccinated? But I mean, I'm sorry, I got
• 8:03
  Speaker 6: a real.
• 8:03
Speaker 5: Issue with that. I'm sorry, you know, I mean, especially
• 8:06
  Speaker 5: if you're there.
• 8:07
  Speaker 8: You know.
• 8:08
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the that's the tough part, is I mean, again,
• 8:10
Speaker 7: we were in the building, so you know, come in,
• 8:13
Speaker 7: talk to us. Don't be afraid to talk to us.
• 8:16
Speaker 7: We you know, we've promised to handle things gently. And
• 8:20
Speaker 7: again I do appreciate and have respect for you know,
• 8:23
Speaker 7: trying to get your animals help, but leaving them in
• 8:25
Speaker 7: the parking lot there. I've seen it, tom and Tommy
• 8:28
Speaker 7: Inn where animals break out of the carriers that they're
• 8:30
Speaker 7: in and then now they're on a busy road or
• 8:33
Speaker 7: they're in the woods, exposed to a lot of animals.
• 8:36
Speaker 7: I've seen animals that you know, people have hit on
• 8:39
Speaker 7: the property and we haven't gotten to them in a
• 8:42
Speaker 7: timely manner, like we haven't been able to see them
• 8:44
Speaker 7: or find them. And yesterday was a really hot day.
• 8:47
Speaker 7: So if you're hiding them, then it's they're exposed to
• 8:50
Speaker 7: the elements. It's just a lot of things can happen
• 8:52
  Speaker 7: when people.
• 8:53
Speaker 6: Do that, all right, So I had the text here
• 8:55
Speaker 6: for you said that a litter of kittens dumped out
• 8:57
Speaker 6: on the Nitro Saint Alban's Bridge on Wednesday.
• 9:00
Speaker 5: Were they not brought to the shelter.
• 9:03
Speaker 7: I don't recall that, but what I can do is
• 9:06
Speaker 7: double check anything that came in on Wednesday, and you know,
• 9:09
Speaker 7: see if they made it or not that I'm not
• 9:11
  Speaker 7: I don't recall that.
• 9:12
Speaker 5: On Wednesday, tell us about the kitty.
• 9:14
Speaker 6: You have one posted on your social media that had
• 9:17
Speaker 6: to have both of her eyes removed.
• 9:20
Speaker 7: So that is something that falls under the category of
• 9:22
Speaker 7: we've had a lot of very serious illnesses come into
• 9:26
Speaker 7: the building recently. And do you know the name of
• 9:31
Speaker 7: the one in specific that you're talking about that has
• 9:34
  Speaker 7: happened a lot.
• 9:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, there was just there was a I don't have
• 9:36
Speaker 6: it in front of me right now, but there was
• 9:37
Speaker 6: a posted this week. There was a picture of a
• 9:40
Speaker 6: kitten that had to have its eyes removed or again
• 9:42
Speaker 6: I had to have its eyes removed. It's on your
• 9:44
  Speaker 6: Facebook page. I'm sorry, I didn't mean you can't you
• 9:46
  Speaker 6: buy surprise.
• 9:47
  Speaker 9: On that book?
• 9:47
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's posted on the facebook page. Maybe we can
• 9:49
Speaker 6: get an update on that particular kitten.
• 9:51
Speaker 7: Yeah, next Yeah, if it's the one I'm thinking about
• 9:54
Speaker 7: that that would be a result of a system so
• 9:57
Speaker 7: the year up a respiratory infection where the eyes, you know,
• 10:02
Speaker 7: they are not treated in time, which you know, depending
• 10:05
Speaker 7: on how fast and how quickly they get to us,
• 10:08
Speaker 7: they will sometimes crust shut to Harper.
• 10:12
Speaker 6: Harper Yeah, that's exactly the one. Yeah, one of one
• 10:16
Speaker 6: hundred and twenty five animals at the shelter receiving various
• 10:19
Speaker 6: kinds of medical treatment, and Harper is the one and
• 10:23
Speaker 6: it and the poor thing had to.
• 10:24
Speaker 5: Have its eyes removed. But hopefully, I mean could make
• 10:29
Speaker 5: someone a good pet, you know.
• 10:30
Speaker 7: Absolutely Yep. Having a blind animal is I mean, it's
• 10:35
Speaker 7: not much different than having one that can see. There
• 10:37
Speaker 7: are a couple of things you have to do, so
• 10:39
Speaker 7: you absolutely make a wonderful pet for somebody out there.
• 10:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, you guys out about anywhere.
• 10:43
Speaker 7: This weekend, we're staying home this weekend. We're finishing wrapping
• 10:48
Speaker 7: up the Empty the Shelters adoption special, so we're going
• 10:52
Speaker 7: to be doing that at kh Yeah.
• 10:54
Speaker 6: And that's and I don't know whether you brought that
• 10:56
Speaker 6: up or not, but Malcolm, our dog this week, our
• 10:58
Speaker 6: pet of the week, is part of that of the
• 11:02
Speaker 6: Empty of the Shelter thing with bissels.
• 11:03
Speaker 5: So he's only five bucks, right, yep.
• 11:06
Speaker 7: Any kennel dog, which is what Malcolm falls under, is
• 11:09
Speaker 7: going to be five dollars to it all. But some
• 11:12
Speaker 7: very generous console came in and sponsored the next ten
• 11:16
Speaker 7: adult dogs that get adopted so you don't even have
• 11:18
Speaker 7: to pay anything for anywhere to go.
• 11:20
Speaker 6: I shared that on my personal page because I always do,
• 11:24
Speaker 6: and a friend of mine from Logan texted or not texted,
• 11:29
Speaker 6: but actually posted on my post on my personal page
• 11:32
Speaker 6: and said that he bet it was a sibling of
• 11:35
Speaker 6: an animal that he and his family just adopted. He said,
• 11:38
Speaker 6: we just adopted one that looked like that from the shelter,
• 11:40
Speaker 6: like a week or two ago.
• 11:41
  Speaker 5: And he said, I bet that's a sibling. I don't
• 11:43
Speaker 5: know that for a fact, but they looked a lot alike.
• 11:45
Speaker 6: They probably are all right, Kegs for Canines tell us
• 11:50
  Speaker 6: about that.
• 11:51
Speaker 7: Kegs for Canines. The early bird tickets are alive, so
• 11:54
Speaker 7: get those while you can. They will not last forever.
• 11:57
Speaker 7: It is coming up at the end of August at
• 11:59
Speaker 7: the Red Carpet Lounge. We're very excited for that, again,
• 12:03
Speaker 7: my favorite event that we do. You get her drinks
• 12:05
Speaker 7: here and pet dogs.
• 12:06
Speaker 5: What more could you want? Angie?
• 12:08
Speaker 6: I appreciate you being here. We'll talk again next week.
• 12:11
  Speaker 6: Thanks a lot.
• 12:11
Speaker 7: Absolutely have a good weeknd.
• 12:13
Speaker 6: Angie, getlnwaterkinaw Charlest you've made association with this week'sdop me.
• 12:16
Speaker 6: Please pet of the week picture posted Dave Allen Radio
• 12:18
Speaker 6: on Facebook at the WCCHS Network Facebook page and also
• 12:21
Speaker 6: at Dave A seventy or Dave Allen on X. His
• 12:24
Speaker 6: name is Malcolm. He is three months old. He's a
• 12:27
Speaker 6: par of o survivor, but he's doing fine now. Very
• 12:30
Speaker 6: interesting looking dog if you go over and look at
• 12:32
Speaker 6: the picture, because he's got a little blue specs in
• 12:35
Speaker 6: him and little freckling going on. Just a beautiful dog,
• 12:39
Speaker 6: she said. Probably get some healer in him. He appears
• 12:42
Speaker 6: to be good with other dogs and kids and based
• 12:45
Speaker 6: on his personality, but you always want to be careful.
• 12:47
Speaker 6: Of course, Angie says he's probably going to be good
• 12:49
Speaker 6: with cats as well. And he's only five bucks through
• 12:51
Speaker 6: the twenty six thanks to the folks at.
• 12:53
  Speaker 5: The Abyssel Foundation.
• 12:54
Speaker 6: But again an anonymous soul has come out of the
• 12:57
Speaker 6: woodwork and said, we're going to sponsor the next ones,
• 12:59
Speaker 6: like the next I think, she said, tan or so,
• 13:01
Speaker 6: so going up to the shelter and get yourself a

Speaker 10: You may think speeding a little isn't really speeding, but
• 14:12
Speaker 10: even a few miles over the limit has consequences. First,
• 14:16
Speaker 10: there's the fine. Your first offense could cost you one
• 14:19
Speaker 10: hundred dollars plus court costs, and you'll pay a lot
• 14:22
Speaker 10: more if it's your second or third offense. Eventually you
• 14:24
Speaker 10: can lose your license or even go to jail, and
• 14:27
Speaker 10: those are minor consequences. Speeding causes ten thousand deaths each year.
• 14:32
Speaker 10: So next time you think a few miles over isn't

Speaker 6: in southern West Virginia. Sasha Colette and the Magnolias. They're
• 17:05
Speaker 6: absolutely fantastic. Six point thirty tonight. How's the west that
• 17:09
Speaker 6: you're in here? I'm gonna utilize your skills.
• 17:11
Speaker 5: How's the weather looking? Weather's gonna be actually pretty good.
• 17:14
Speaker 13: We've got a chance for just a couple of spotty
• 17:16
Speaker 13: showers trying to bubble up today, but that's not going
• 17:18
Speaker 13: to First of all, it's talking to be severe, and secondly,
• 17:20
Speaker 13: we're not gonna have any flooding with that. So the
• 17:23
Speaker 13: weather's actually gonna be pretty nice for this afternoon, for
• 17:25
Speaker 13: live on the levee, into this evening out into the
• 17:27
Speaker 13: evening hours, and listen, your Saturday is gonna be nice
• 17:29
  Speaker 13: as well.
• 17:30
  Speaker 5: Sunday pre decent.
• 17:32
Speaker 13: Next week we do have some thunderstorms that will start
• 17:34
Speaker 13: to bubble up, if well, a few on Monday, probably
• 17:36
Speaker 13: a few more on Tuesday.
• 17:38
  Speaker 1: Though.
• 17:38
Speaker 5: Are you going to do?
• 17:39
Speaker 6: Is wind him up and say weather, and there he
• 17:40
Speaker 6: goes Sam Steve Am Steve Animal here ninety eight to seven,
• 17:44
Speaker 6: A mountain wild, wonderful classic rock. How you doing, man, Bam,
• 17:47
Speaker 6: I'm here. You're here all right now as we speak.
• 17:51
Speaker 6: Several of our folks are out on the lot eleven
• 17:53
Speaker 6: eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston collecting donations. Through the Red Cross.
• 17:57
Speaker 6: We're all gonna be out there, all of our stations.
• 17:59
Speaker 5: Pot of stuff already, I know.
• 18:01
Speaker 6: I mean I went out there right before the show
• 18:02
Speaker 6: and we started this thing at eight o'clock. And I
• 18:04
Speaker 6: want to give a big shout out to the West
• 18:06
Speaker 6: Virginia Association Affairs and Festivals because they're out there as well.
• 18:11
Speaker 6: Yesterday we just when we were talking about it on
• 18:14
Speaker 6: the air, we had people saying, what do I make
• 18:18
Speaker 6: a check to? A big shout out to Harvey Peyton
• 18:21
Speaker 6: Peyton Law Firm, who kind of got it started. Several
• 18:23
Speaker 6: others have come forward as well, and I don't know
• 18:25
Speaker 6: whether they actually want to be announced or not, so
• 18:28
Speaker 6: I won't say the rest of them without their permission.
• 18:30
Speaker 6: But bottom line is West Virginia coming through Steve and
• 18:33
Speaker 6: doing what West Virginia's doing that's helping out absolutely.
• 18:35
Speaker 14: I was out there a little while ago too, and
• 18:37
Speaker 14: it's amazing the support. I actually got some pictures from
• 18:43
Speaker 14: my wife. She sent me the byside we go up there.
• 18:46
Speaker 14: She actually graduated from Buchanan High Oh wow. So we've
• 18:51
Speaker 14: been up for the Strawberry Festival and it's amazing. Unfortunately,
• 18:54
Speaker 14: like the by side by Centennial Hotel. It's got water
• 18:58
Speaker 14: right up all the way up. Yeah, and I love
• 19:01
Speaker 14: that the Lounge of the eighty eight. It's a great
• 19:04
Speaker 14: place to hang out. And so those folks definitely need
• 19:07
Speaker 14: our help and we can do some good for the neighborhood.
• 19:09
Speaker 13: So you know what, some of the people who've already
• 19:11
Speaker 13: been donating have been previous flood victims themselves, and that
• 19:16
Speaker 13: that's what is Kathy hess who is love Kathy? I
• 19:21
Speaker 13: love Kathy, Secretary Warner's right hand lady.
• 19:23
Speaker 6: For both Secretary Warners. Yes, exactly, the old one.
• 19:27
Speaker 13: Then yeah, she said, you know, she she told a
• 19:30
Speaker 13: story about her when she was younger and her son
• 19:33
Speaker 13: was ten, and that called her.
• 19:36
Speaker 5: Daddy said what are we going to do?
• 19:38
Speaker 13: And he goes, you got to go up on the
• 19:39
Speaker 13: hill and get unstopped the culvert or it's going to
• 19:42
Speaker 13: take everything, wash it all way.
• 19:44
Speaker 5: We won't have nothing.
• 19:45
Speaker 13: And she went up there and she did it, and
• 19:47
Speaker 13: she talked about being in flood victims.
• 19:49
Speaker 14: I mean, when you see the sun national news across
• 19:51
Speaker 14: the country. I've had people reaching out to me, you know,
• 19:54
Speaker 14: just you know, checking, hey, were you affected by this?
• 19:57
Speaker 14: I said, fortunately not. However, unfortunately thousands of people have
• 20:01
  Speaker 14: been So.
• 20:02
Speaker 6: As we speak, we've got a news nation here in
• 20:04
Speaker 6: the studio and this is video from yesterday of Governor
• 20:06
Speaker 6: Morrisey at the of course yesterday Brian, as you all know,
• 20:10
Speaker 6: we got confirmation that the two people had perished. We
• 20:14
Speaker 6: initially the reports were is that we didn't know of
• 20:17
Speaker 6: anybody that died in this, but that's there's still there's
• 20:20
Speaker 6: still several unaccounted for, so we just we just don't know.
• 20:26
Speaker 6: And I do want to mention programming know Jeff Jenkins
• 20:28
Speaker 6: is actually heading up there now and we're going to
• 20:30
Speaker 6: be checking in with Jeff later today on Talkline the
• 20:33
Speaker 6: Wilson Meadow as well, but also on Metro News midday
• 20:35
  Speaker 6: as well.
• 20:35
Speaker 5: All right, so what are we looking for here? Here's
• 20:37
  Speaker 5: what we need.
• 20:38
Speaker 6: Bottled water and gatorade, non perishable ready to eat foods,
• 20:43
Speaker 6: toilet paper, paper, towels, cleaning supplies, clorox, wifes, extension cords
• 20:48
Speaker 6: and fans, air mattresses, trash bags the regular ones or
• 20:52
Speaker 6: the heavy duty or even better, mops, buckets and brooms, shovels, rakes,
• 20:58
Speaker 6: anything that you can clean up with work gloves, rubber
• 21:01
Speaker 6: boots and n ninety five masks, and those masks Brian
• 21:04
Speaker 6: As you know, you're they say meteorologist or you're kind
• 21:06
Speaker 6: of like scientists trying.
• 21:07
Speaker 5: To yeah, pretty much.
• 21:08
Speaker 15: Sometimes something like that will explain why those masks are important,
• 21:12
Speaker 15: because because right now, as you've got all that silt
• 21:15
Speaker 15: that's that's in these houses, all this what's mud will
• 21:19
Speaker 15: dry up and then it is completely it's it's contaminated.
• 21:22
Speaker 13: And so once it becomes airborne and once it dries
• 21:25
Speaker 13: up becomes dust, you're breathing in contamination, significant amounts of it.
• 21:30
Speaker 6: And last year, I know that when we had some
• 21:32
Speaker 6: of the flooding that was going on in well various
• 21:34
Speaker 6: places last year, there are a lot of people get
• 21:36
Speaker 6: that got sick from the clean up. You look and
• 21:39
Speaker 6: and and and tetanus where Angie Settle from Health Right
• 21:42
Speaker 6: was on this show on After News Midday with This
• 21:43
Speaker 6: yesterday talking about the need for tetanus shots and things
• 21:46
  Speaker 6: like that.
• 21:46
Speaker 13: Well, and you need won every five years to make
• 21:49
Speaker 13: sure you're you're good to go. Uh and and you
• 21:52
Speaker 13: almost need a preventative tetnis shot. You know, you can
• 21:55
Speaker 13: get one afterwards, but it's better have preventive because the
• 21:57
Speaker 13: sickness is going to be incredible.
• 21:58
Speaker 14: Especially if you're eating around me. But the one thing though,
• 22:04
Speaker 14: you know, like when you see the floodwaters, it's brown.
• 22:06
Speaker 14: It's brown for a reason, so you know, keep that
• 22:09
Speaker 14: in mind. That's yeah, you know that water is dirty.
• 22:12
Speaker 13: And even and and the thing is even though we
• 22:14
Speaker 13: have we have some of the cleanest rivers around. The
• 22:16
Speaker 13: reason surprised some people like there's not a clean river.
• 22:19
  Speaker 16: Now.
• 22:20
Speaker 13: We have some very clean rivers up in these these parts,
• 22:23
Speaker 13: but when when it floods, it takes everything with it.
• 22:26
Speaker 5: It all gets mixed together.
• 22:28
Speaker 13: Yeah, oil, diesel, there's gasoline, there's.
• 22:32
Speaker 14: System and it rises and it gets into the water.
• 22:35
Speaker 6: So yeah, but ave voland shilling five Eddieline is brought
• 22:37
Speaker 6: to you a part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest
• 22:39
Speaker 6: injury law firm, and we have a run in now
• 22:42
  Speaker 6: from Dale Cooper.
• 22:42
Speaker 5: How you doing, man, I'm little okay.
• 22:45
Speaker 17: I was a little late because we got three straight
• 22:47
Speaker 17: huge drop offs just as I was coming in. So
• 22:50
Speaker 17: we had a bunch of folks coming by that heard
• 22:52
Speaker 17: you on the radio and also you, I believe on
• 22:54
  Speaker 17: the radio.
• 22:55
Speaker 5: Wait a minute, this was on the radio.
• 22:56
Speaker 16: Hey what do you know?
• 22:57
  Speaker 7: Right?
• 22:57
Speaker 17: But they were they literally had heard about right before
• 23:00
Speaker 17: the show started, went and grabbed some stuff and dropped
• 23:03
Speaker 17: by here. Just a little bit ago. We had a
• 23:05
Speaker 17: whole truck full of boxed up supplies, pre boxed up supplies.
• 23:09
Speaker 17: We just got maybe I don't know fifty mops and
• 23:11
Speaker 17: brooms that somebody bought and Balkin dropped off. Huge donations
• 23:16
Speaker 17: coming from people. And what do we expect from our community.
• 23:18
Speaker 5: Right best listeners in the world, the question question, thank you?
• 23:22
  Speaker 5: Uh and uh.
• 23:23
Speaker 6: And the folks that Triton are going to be Trenton Rophie.
• 23:25
Speaker 6: They're going to be helping us out to get those
• 23:27
  Speaker 6: items there.
• 23:27
Speaker 13: And Trent and Roufs has been has been on site
• 23:30
Speaker 13: up there in Buchanan and uh, they were the you know,
• 23:32
Speaker 13: they've been in the midst of things. They actually uh
• 23:34
Speaker 13: unfortunately the two people that they uh that did perish,
• 23:38
Speaker 13: they were they were there as they were as they
• 23:40
Speaker 13: were being cut out of the car essentially. And so
• 23:43
Speaker 13: they they've been their first hand already and have seen
• 23:45
Speaker 13: the the literally the death and destruction and uh they're
• 23:49
Speaker 13: changed people uh after this and uh and but they
• 23:52
Speaker 13: want to help, that's why they're here. They're happy to
• 23:55
Speaker 13: help out and they're going to be driving everything up
• 23:57
Speaker 13: along with the Red Cross. You know, we're working to
• 23:59
Speaker 13: make this happened. Bleach cleaning supplies, everything you can possibly do,
• 24:03
Speaker 13: rubber gloves, things that nature.
• 24:04
Speaker 6: We need all of the pet food and pet supplies.
• 24:06
Speaker 6: On Friday, you know, we do our segment or not
• 24:08
Speaker 6: be please spend up the week and I want to
• 24:10
Speaker 6: make sure people realize that they need pet food.
• 24:13
Speaker 17: Yeah, and that's something else. We just got a bunch
• 24:15
Speaker 17: of We got maybe six bags of dog food and
• 24:19
Speaker 17: six palettes of cat foods, so we got quite a
• 24:21
Speaker 17: bit of it out there. And I'm not sure if
• 24:23
Speaker 17: you guys addressed this or not, but we did have
• 24:24
Speaker 17: a few folks asking questions about how deployment was going
• 24:27
Speaker 17: to work, how the supplies were going to get there
• 24:28
Speaker 17: and stuff. We're working with locals in the community up there,
• 24:32
Speaker 17: so we're going to be delivering straight to folks that
• 24:34
Speaker 17: are working with the locals to get these supplies distributed.
• 24:37
Speaker 5: So don't worry. It's not going through several different steps
• 24:39
  Speaker 5: before against there.
• 24:40
Speaker 17: It's basically going to leave straight from here and we're
• 24:42
Speaker 17: going to take it to the folks that.
• 24:43
Speaker 6: And they've got the staging area set up now. They
• 24:45
Speaker 6: got it yesterday I think Brian at West Virginia Wesleyan.
• 24:47
Speaker 6: So that's where things are going to go to.
• 24:49
Speaker 13: And that's the thing Wesley is making sure that everything's
• 24:51
Speaker 13: divvied up and putting the proper spots. I mean you
• 24:53
Speaker 13: have everything from feminine hygiene products that are needed to
• 24:57
Speaker 13: to you know, baby formula to diapers, I mean all
• 25:00
Speaker 13: the all the basic stuff. If there is any type
• 25:03
Speaker 13: of clothing, socks or socks are very important.
• 25:06
Speaker 5: You use brand new socks.
• 25:07
Speaker 13: We don't need anything use, uh, but brand new socks
• 25:09
Speaker 13: are important because first of all, when you're in that
• 25:11
Speaker 13: water and it's getting you're getting into your shoes and
• 25:14
  Speaker 13: stuff things.
• 25:14
Speaker 5: You know, you gotta change clothes, clothes all the time.
• 25:17
Speaker 13: So uh, And that's why cash is important because what
• 25:20
Speaker 13: happens is you have the Red Cross in the different
• 25:23
Speaker 13: organizations that know, these folks need clothing. We're gonna go
• 25:26
Speaker 13: get them taken care of. They need stuff that's fits,
• 25:29
Speaker 13: it's proper. They don't need to use stuff. And that's
• 25:31
Speaker 13: why that's why the cash helps out.
• 25:32
Speaker 6: And you can write checks if you want to do
• 25:34
Speaker 6: that to the American Red Cross and put it just
• 25:36
Speaker 6: put in that memo line you can put in West
• 25:38
Speaker 6: Virginia flood relief. You want to give us the green
• 25:40
Speaker 6: stuff out here too. I mean that's perfect. That's perfect
• 25:42
Speaker 6: time flashlights and batteries too. That's something I don't think
• 25:45
Speaker 6: that we'd mentioned earlier because there's still a lot of
• 25:47
Speaker 6: people up there that don't have power.
• 25:49
Speaker 14: It won't have power for a long time.
• 25:50
Speaker 17: Somebody also brought several bags of disposable rags. That's the
• 25:53
Speaker 17: first time I'd seen that, And that's a really good
• 25:55
Speaker 17: one too, because they're a little bit more robust than
• 25:57
Speaker 17: the paper towels. You can reuse and bring them out
• 25:59
Speaker 17: and then you could throw them away afterwards. Those are
• 26:00
Speaker 17: very useful as well.
• 26:01
Speaker 6: And I will say, we don't, you know, encourage you
• 26:04
Speaker 6: to go to any particular store, but I will say
• 26:06
Speaker 6: that last night my wife and I went out to dinner,
• 26:08
Speaker 6: and we were out at Valley Park last night for
• 26:10
Speaker 6: the night market out there, and we stopped by.
• 26:12
Speaker 5: In our neighborhood. We have one of the uh one.
• 26:15
Speaker 6: Of the dollar general grocery store type places at the
• 26:17
Speaker 6: DJ marketplace. They have a dollar They have an aisle
• 26:21
Speaker 6: of nothing but things that are a dollar and there
• 26:23
Speaker 6: were a lot of cleaning supplies in those right there,
• 26:26
Speaker 6: Things like the smaller containers bleach. Smaller containers will make
• 26:29
  Speaker 6: bigger containers bleach.
• 26:30
Speaker 5: So if you want to.
• 26:30
Speaker 6: Hit up that place, you want to hit up all
• 26:33
  Speaker 6: the big lots.
• 26:34
Speaker 5: Target we go. We don't care where you go, just.
• 26:37
Speaker 13: Go right well, and don don is incredibly important because
• 26:41
Speaker 13: at first of all, it cuts through grease, grease and
• 26:44
Speaker 13: oil and everything else, so that that helps significantly. And
• 26:46
Speaker 13: and there, and mind you, there are a number of
• 26:48
Speaker 13: animals that also need to be cleaned off as well,
• 26:50
Speaker 13: and they're using don for some of them as well.
• 26:52
Speaker 6: So I saw a picture of a friend of mine
• 26:54
Speaker 6: lives up there, and he sent me a picture last.
• 26:56
  Speaker 5: Night of this.
• 26:59
Speaker 6: You just can't imagine what it is until you. I've
• 27:03
Speaker 6: interviewed man Aman, and I have interviewed several people over
• 27:06
Speaker 6: the last couple of days. But one of my buddies
• 27:07
Speaker 6: actually lives in Buchanon. And not that any one item
• 27:12
Speaker 6: is more important than anything else, but I'm a car guy,
• 27:15
Speaker 6: and this guy had a collection of Jaguars and they
• 27:17
  Speaker 6: weren't all expensive. I mean, there's a lot of them
• 27:19
Speaker 6: were cars. He was working on all just laid out
• 27:22
Speaker 6: there on the street last night, A Buchanan.
• 27:24
Speaker 13: I mean, the Kenaw County Sheriff's Apartment sent an entire
• 27:28
Speaker 13: team up there to help out the uptur County Sheriff's Department,
• 27:31
Speaker 13: and they've been working there, and one of my best
• 27:34
Speaker 13: friends is on that team.
• 27:36
Speaker 5: And he said, you can't imagine the destruction. He said.
• 27:39
Speaker 13: He said, in town intown, the water came up and
• 27:43
Speaker 13: it's a mess. He says, water's gone back down, he said.
• 27:45
Speaker 13: But out in the county, things are gone.
• 27:47
Speaker 5: He said. Houses are gone, roads are gone, Bridges are gone.
• 27:50
Speaker 5: He said, it's really and it wasn't.
• 27:52
Speaker 6: Really until yesterday Brian and guys that they could get
• 27:55
Speaker 6: into some of those areas. So you don't know how
• 27:58
Speaker 6: gone it is until you get up there, because we're
• 28:00
Speaker 6: talking about I mean, but Cannon is a nice little
• 28:02
Speaker 6: West Virginia city, but a lot of these rural areas
• 28:04
Speaker 6: that are outside of town you couldn't even access, So
• 28:07
Speaker 6: you don't even know what the damage is until you
• 28:09
  Speaker 6: get in there.
• 28:10
Speaker 17: I just think back to twenty sixteen, and my mom
• 28:12
Speaker 17: lives in Beaumont, so I saw a lot of the
• 28:14
Speaker 17: destruction out there. What we broadcast from out there as
• 28:16
Speaker 17: well at the FEMA location in Clinton, and but also
• 28:19
Speaker 17: my mom lives in Beaumont, so I was out there
• 28:21
Speaker 17: a lot, and even today, but especially up until maybe
• 28:25
Speaker 17: a year or two ago, when you were driving out there,
• 28:27
Speaker 17: you could see the water line still when the surviving
• 28:29
Speaker 17: structures are out there, and it was feet above the ground.
• 28:31
Speaker 17: And just imagine what all those communities had to go
• 28:34
Speaker 17: through to get all of that water out to get
• 28:35
Speaker 17: these structures relivable again. And it took some of those
• 28:37
Speaker 17: places years and years and years to get to that point.
• 28:40
Speaker 17: And I just feel for the people in these communities
• 28:42
Speaker 17: that's starting at ground zero in this it's a long journey.
• 28:45
Speaker 16: They need our help.
• 28:46
Speaker 6: We had a texta at a reminder of what happened
• 28:47
Speaker 6: after the twenty sixteen flood. Do we know if there'll
• 28:49
Speaker 6: be anyone up there this weekend cooking for these people?
• 28:52
Speaker 6: I know that people came together and made hot dogs
• 28:54
Speaker 6: and hamburgers back then. I can tell you that every
• 28:56
Speaker 6: Friday on midday we do a lunch Bot segment, and
• 28:58
Speaker 6: that's what we are going to do. You're going to
• 29:00
Speaker 6: feature one of those places that is cooking for people.
• 29:02
Speaker 6: It may be somebody's grandma in her backyard.
• 29:04
  Speaker 5: We don't care.
• 29:05
Speaker 6: They don't have to have a license as far as
• 29:06
Speaker 6: we're concerned, as long as they're fit, long as they're
• 29:08
  Speaker 6: feeding people.
• 29:09
Speaker 14: Absolutely, And I don't think people understand been in a
• 29:12
Speaker 14: flood before, years and years ago, and the water comes
• 29:15
Speaker 14: up quickly, like and suddenly you're thinking, you know, it's like,
• 29:19
Speaker 14: oh what your mind is not really thinking that.
• 29:23
  Speaker 5: What's going on?
• 29:24
Speaker 14: Like suddenly you've got a photo water and then suddenly
• 29:28
Speaker 14: there's two feet of water and you're seeing all your stuff. Well,
• 29:30
Speaker 14: I need to get that, you know, it's floating. I
• 29:33
Speaker 14: need to get out. You know, you don't know where
• 29:34
  Speaker 14: to go where.
• 29:36
Speaker 6: And that's one of the great things in talking with
• 29:38
Speaker 6: Angie Settle of Health Right yesterday because she brought up
• 29:40
Speaker 6: a very good point. When these with floodwaters come up,
• 29:42
Speaker 6: people get their kids, they get you know, maybe a
• 29:45
Speaker 6: photo album or two, their Bible, they get, they get
• 29:48
  Speaker 6: their pets.
• 29:48
Speaker 5: But they don't think about the medication.
• 29:50
Speaker 6: And there are some people that having that daily medication
• 29:54
Speaker 6: is their lifeblood literally. And so the folks at Health
• 29:57
Speaker 6: Right here and Charleston are working with people up there.
• 30:00
Speaker 6: Similar agencies up there to try to get much needed medication.
• 30:03
Speaker 6: We're talking about anti seizure medications. We're talking about I
• 30:06
Speaker 6: think heart medications that people have to have to survive
• 30:10
Speaker 6: day to day. So contact the folks at health right
• 30:12
Speaker 6: here in Charleston if you'd like to, because they could
• 30:14
Speaker 6: probably take donations as well.
• 30:16
Speaker 5: I mean as well.
• 30:17
Speaker 6: All right, we're out on our parking lot. We will
• 30:19
Speaker 6: be throughout the day till six o'clock tonight. And I
• 30:22
Speaker 6: just grabbed a few bodies brought you guys in here.
• 30:25
Speaker 6: You're the greatest listeners in the world. You've always come
• 30:27
Speaker 6: through with us no matter what we've asked. We really
• 30:30
Speaker 6: need you guys to help this time, and we don't
• 30:31
Speaker 6: give If you bring us a gallon of bleach, will
• 30:34
  Speaker 6: take it.
• 30:34
Speaker 5: If we bring us a palette of bleach, will take it.
• 30:38
Speaker 17: We literally had a guy right before I came in
• 30:39
Speaker 17: that he walked down the street. He brought one box
• 30:42
Speaker 17: of contractor backs. Great, we need him. That's perfect, right, yeah.
• 30:45
Speaker 14: Yeah, whatever, even if you're in your car and you
• 30:48
Speaker 14: can't come back later, you have some cash in the
• 30:51
Speaker 14: cash tray I call mine.
• 30:55
Speaker 18: I want to say pennies on the wrong end of
• 30:59
Speaker 18: the industry world. This orders. I'm picking those up and
• 31:03
Speaker 18: using them daily. But yeah, I turned my ash tray
• 31:06
Speaker 18: into the car years ago into a cash trae, so yeah,
• 31:09
  Speaker 18: mostly changed.
• 31:10
  Speaker 5: Way to go.
• 31:11
Speaker 6: Just telled everybody you have money in your card. Yeah
• 31:15
  Speaker 6: it's a nineteen.
• 31:16
Speaker 5: What are you driving? I just have six grain of
• 31:20
Speaker 5: the car money. I wanted the casino and I finally
• 31:22
Speaker 5: got rid of that.
• 31:24
Speaker 6: All right, Brian, Brian Hughes, appreciate you coming in, Dale

Speaker 6: will be out there until six o'clock tonight. Cana County Commission,
• 34:24
Speaker 6: President of Ben Selango Joints. Yes, good morning, sir, Good morning,
• 34:27
Speaker 6: and I want to get away from County Commission stuff
• 34:30
  Speaker 6: for this moment.
• 34:31
Speaker 5: Say thank you very much.
• 34:32
Speaker 6: The Selango Law firm just dropped off a check for
• 34:34
Speaker 6: one thousand dollars here you're well, Thank you very much.
• 34:37
Speaker 5: I will take care of that, make sure it gets
• 34:38
Speaker 5: in the right hands.
• 34:39
Speaker 21: When we had we had the massive flooding in Elkviw
• 34:42
Speaker 21: ten years ago, people from all over the state, all
• 34:43
Speaker 21: over the country, quite frankly, pitched in to help. So
• 34:46
Speaker 21: it's uh, it's good that people here are pitching in
• 34:49
Speaker 21: to help our friends up and up sure and.
• 34:52
Speaker 6: Yeah, and all those areas up there, you just can't Again,
• 34:56
Speaker 6: I've known Robbie Skinner. I don't know whether you know
• 34:58
Speaker 6: Robbie or old Farewell mayor of Mechanic. He and I
• 35:00
Speaker 6: go back way. He'll be back on the show again
• 35:02
Speaker 6: today and just talking to him. And you know, Robbie
• 35:05
Speaker 6: is one of those guys that Ben is always upbeat,
• 35:08
Speaker 6: always got a smile, on his face. You can just
• 35:11
Speaker 6: hear it the other night when I was talking to
• 35:12
Speaker 6: him and he's like, Dave, this is this is bad.
• 35:15
  Speaker 5: Yeah, bad.
• 35:15
Speaker 21: And I've reached out to Robbie and we sent several
• 35:19
Speaker 21: Kanaw County deputies up, yeah, a few days ago to
• 35:22
Speaker 21: help out. And I'll let Robbie know that everybody in
• 35:24
Speaker 21: Kanaw County's behind them anything they need.
• 35:27
Speaker 6: And and you know there's but Cannon, there's Weston, and
• 35:30
Speaker 6: then we kind of forget. I was talking to Stephen
• 35:32
Speaker 6: Allen Adams yesterday that in the area around Saint Mary's
• 35:35
Speaker 6: and some of the and crossed in the border over
• 35:36
Speaker 6: in Ohio, those folks got tornadoes there and and it's
• 35:40
Speaker 6: you know, you can there's a lot of damage there
• 35:42
Speaker 6: as well, So we don't want to forget about.
• 35:43
Speaker 5: Those people as well.
• 35:44
Speaker 21: Yeah, it's it's uh, it's fairly widespread over there. So
• 35:48
Speaker 21: we're we're we're trying to help as many people as
• 35:51
Speaker 21: we can. But I appreciate you guys doing the flood drive. Yeah,
• 35:54
Speaker 21: getting the supplies up to them, that's you know, very important.
• 35:57
Speaker 5: Well, I mean we have.
• 35:58
Speaker 6: The idea, but it's the listeners that come up with
• 36:00
Speaker 6: this stuff. It's listeners and people like you and Harvey
• 36:02
Speaker 6: Payton and Jay Goldman hooked us up with some money yesterday,
• 36:07
Speaker 6: So appreciate all that. All right, So, last night, County
• 36:10
Speaker 6: commission meaning you and Commissioner Natalie Tennant, could not come
• 36:13
Speaker 6: to an agreement on the replacement for Lance Wheeler.
• 36:16
Speaker 5: And of course you know Lance Wheeler's story.
• 36:17
Speaker 6: He's resigned the remainder of his tenure to head up
• 36:21
Speaker 6: the Ambulance Service Authority. Your comment, Well, so Commissioner Tenant
• 36:27
Speaker 6: and I met, and I wasn't sure how the vote
• 36:29
Speaker 6: would go last night. I wasn't sure if she would
• 36:33
Speaker 6: vote for Jared or not. But you know, when I
• 36:36
Speaker 6: was looking at the applicants and we had a lot
• 36:38
Speaker 6: of qualified folks, you know, I think six or seven submitted.
• 36:40
Speaker 6: There were five that were qualified legally qualified to.
• 36:46
  Speaker 5: Serve.
• 36:47
Speaker 21: And you go through the applications and the resumes and
• 36:52
Speaker 21: the letters of recommendation. In fact, Jared Page had I
• 36:57
Speaker 21: think last night I said twenty two. It was actually
• 36:59
Speaker 21: twenty three letters recommendation from mayors and US senators and
• 37:05
Speaker 21: law enforcement and firefighters and the other apples didn't have
• 37:09
Speaker 21: a single letter of recommendation. So you know, I thought
• 37:12
Speaker 21: it was pretty clear the Republican voters had spoken in
• 37:16
Speaker 21: the primary. They elected Jared Page as they've selected him
• 37:19
Speaker 21: as the Republican nominee. The Republican Executive Committee, the County
• 37:24
Speaker 21: Executive Committee sent us a letter indicating they wanted Jared appointed.
• 37:27
Speaker 21: The State Republican Party sent a letter indicating they wanted
• 37:32
Speaker 21: Jared appointed. And Treasurer Larry Pack sent a letter. You know,
• 37:37
Speaker 21: Shelley Moore Capital sent a letter. I mean, there were
• 37:39
Speaker 21: lots and lots of support for Jared, So that's why
• 37:42
Speaker 21: I made the motion. And Jared was the only candidate
• 37:45
Speaker 21: of the five that had any government experience whatsoever. Jared,
• 37:48
Speaker 21: of course is vice mayor of Saint Albans, he was
• 37:51
Speaker 21: municipal judge, he's on city council, so he has a
• 37:54
Speaker 21: lot of government experience. I know that he's worked with
• 37:57
Speaker 21: the legislature a lot, So it was to me it
• 38:01
Speaker 21: was a pretty clear choice. Now, I've yet to find
• 38:05
Speaker 21: a person in the world that agrees with me one
• 38:07
Speaker 21: hundred percent of the time. You know, my wife and
• 38:09
Speaker 21: I have been married twenty five years and we're in
• 38:11
Speaker 21: an agreement like seventy five percent at.
• 38:13
Speaker 5: The time, pretty high for most married couple.
• 38:15
Speaker 21: And for the twenty five percent that we're not in agreement.
• 38:18
Speaker 21: You know, she will tell you that I'm always wrong,
• 38:20
Speaker 21: so you know that's it's not unusual for people to
• 38:23
Speaker 21: have disagreements. I mean, and I'm saying we're disagreeing. We
• 38:28
Speaker 21: just did not agree on that particular issue. But you know,
• 38:30
Speaker 21: Commissioner Tenant and I agree on most of the issues, thankfully,
• 38:34
Speaker 21: and we're going to have to agree over the next
• 38:35
Speaker 21: thirty days because we do not have a third commissioner.
• 38:40
Speaker 21: So my hope is when we come back. We've asked
• 38:42
Speaker 21: the Republican Executive Committee to send us three names.
• 38:46
Speaker 6: And again it has to be a Republican and has
• 38:48
Speaker 6: to be from that district.
• 38:49
Speaker 5: Yes, districts three or four. Yeah, that's the way this works.
• 38:52
Speaker 21: So Republican districts three or four, and they have to
• 38:56
Speaker 21: have been registered as a Republican for at least a year.
• 38:59
Speaker 21: So she can't go which your party registration and move
• 39:02
Speaker 21: to District three or four and expect to get the appointment,
• 39:05
Speaker 21: because it's not going to happen. But the way that
• 39:08
Speaker 21: that works is then they will send us three names
• 39:11
Speaker 21: by August fifteenth. We have a meeting on August twenty seventh.
• 39:16
Speaker 21: We're going to allow each of the three candidates to
• 39:20
Speaker 21: speak for two to three.
• 39:21
Speaker 6: Minutes, basically saying why they're the Yeah, field of the
• 39:25
  Speaker 6: best gamp Yeah.
• 39:26
Speaker 21: And then we will because we may not know, We
• 39:29
Speaker 21: may not know any of the three people that they submit.
• 39:32
Speaker 21: It could be it could be anyone, So as long
• 39:34
Speaker 21: as they're qualified, it could be. They don't even have
• 39:36
Speaker 21: to submit resumes or anything, just just a name. So
• 39:40
Speaker 21: I want to be able to at least know their background.
• 39:42
Speaker 21: And hopefully we'll know all three, but perhaps we won't,
• 39:44
Speaker 21: and then we will. We'll do public strikes. You know,
• 39:47
Speaker 21: the way that the statute is now worded, the one
• 39:51
Speaker 21: who has the most tenure on the commission has to
• 39:53
Speaker 21: strike first and then and that's me, and then Commissioner
• 39:57
Speaker 21: Tenant will strike second, and whoever's left is your next
• 40:01
  Speaker 21: Canawa County Commissioner.
• 40:02
Speaker 5: Were you surprised that you and Commissionert Tenant could not
• 40:06
Speaker 5: agree on this or I was?
• 40:12
Speaker 21: No, I wasn't surprised, but I will tell you that
• 40:15
Speaker 21: I understand why she did what she did. Of course,
• 40:19
Speaker 21: she applied for the vacancy back in twenty twenty four
• 40:21
Speaker 21: when Commissioner Carper resigned abruptly and she wasn't selected. Now,
• 40:27
Speaker 21: I've come on this show before, and I came on
• 40:29
Speaker 21: this show back in May of twenty four, and I
• 40:32
Speaker 21: will say it again. I supported her. I wanted her
• 40:35
Speaker 21: to be the Democratic appointment. She was the nominee. It
• 40:40
Speaker 21: was obvious to me. She had eight years as Secretary
• 40:43
Speaker 21: of State, tons of governmental experience. She was to me
• 40:47
Speaker 21: a very qualified candidate, and also she was selected by
• 40:51
Speaker 21: the Democratic voter. So I have been very consistent.
• 40:54
  Speaker 5: Now.
• 40:55
Speaker 21: What happened then was we couldn't reach an agreement and
• 40:58
Speaker 21: what I did differently by back in twenty four that
• 41:01
Speaker 21: I'm not doing now, and quite frankly, I probably should
• 41:03
Speaker 21: have done this in twenty four too. But you know,
• 41:05
Speaker 21: the Commission had been through a lot that you know,
• 41:07
Speaker 21: we were under tons of scrutiny. We were getting served
• 41:11
Speaker 21: with subpoenas from the US Department of Justice, and you know,
• 41:16
Speaker 21: the staff was rattled. So we needed some calm at
• 41:19
Speaker 21: the Commission and that calm was Mark Slotnik. So Commissioner
• 41:24
Speaker 21: Wheeler and I agreed that if we're not going to
• 41:26
Speaker 21: agree on Natalie, that we could agree on Mark Slotnik
• 41:29
Speaker 21: and Mark Slotnik was an excellent, excellent choice to get
• 41:32
Speaker 21: through the interim. In fact, you know, back in twenty
• 41:35
Speaker 21: seventeen when I applied, Mark Slotnink also applied then, and
• 41:40
Speaker 21: you know several there were like fourteen people, thirteen people
• 41:43
Speaker 21: that applied, and the commission picked me Hoppy in Kent
• 41:47
Speaker 21: and Mark even you know, he tried to apply back then.
• 41:50
Speaker 21: But Mark has been with the County Commission forever and
• 41:53
Speaker 21: that's why we selected him. And it was it was
• 41:55
Speaker 21: a good, steady choice, and it was good for the staff.
• 41:59
Speaker 21: You know, as difficult as that period was on the commissioners,
• 42:04
Speaker 21: it was more difficult on the staff because it was
• 42:06
Speaker 21: just so uncertain. So that's why I did what I
• 42:09
Speaker 21: did back in twenty twenty four. Now you fast forward
• 42:12
Speaker 21: then Chuck Miller, wonderful attorney, our prosecuting attorney. He was
• 42:17
Speaker 21: actually served as US attorney for a long time. He
• 42:20
Speaker 21: decided to retire. Essentially the same situation. We had a
• 42:25
Speaker 21: Republican nominee, which was Deb Rusnick. She had just won
• 42:28
Speaker 21: that election. She was going up into the general against
• 42:33
Speaker 21: the Democratic nominee, and we unanimously selected Deb. So to me,
• 42:38
Speaker 21: I thought we at least I have been very consistent
• 42:41
Speaker 21: on who should get that appointment if there's a vacancy
• 42:44
Speaker 21: after And I'll say this because Lord only knows what
• 42:46
Speaker 21: will happen in twenty eight or thirty or thirty two
• 42:48
Speaker 21: or whatever. If there's a vacancy after an election, I
• 42:53
Speaker 21: think he should go to the nominee. That's just my thought,
• 42:57
Speaker 21: and not to mention, Jared was by far the most
• 43:01
Speaker 21: qualified of the folks that had submitted applications last night.
• 43:04
Speaker 21: And I want to point out that you are a Democrat.
• 43:06
Speaker 21: I'm a Democrat, and Jared Page is a Republican, So
• 43:09
Speaker 21: this is not really a partisan that you and Natalie
• 43:10
Speaker 21: Tennant's both. To me, it's not partisan. I do not
• 43:13
Speaker 21: think the County Commission should be a partisan body. It
• 43:17
Speaker 21: can be sometimes, but typically it's not. I don't care
• 43:20
Speaker 21: if it doesn't matter to me if it's a Republican idea,
• 43:24
Speaker 21: Democratic nominee nominee. I only care if it's a good idea,
• 43:27
Speaker 21: and I want to make sure that we're moving forward.
• 43:29
Speaker 21: So unfortunately, we had a small setback last night, but
• 43:33
Speaker 21: we'll see what happens on August twenty seven. The good
• 43:37
Speaker 21: news is the voters get to decide who they want
• 43:41
Speaker 21: their next commissioner to be.
• 43:42
  Speaker 5: In November.
• 43:43
Speaker 21: You know, we have two Jared Pages run on the
• 43:45
  Speaker 21: Republican side.
• 43:46
Speaker 5: And he won the primary. He won them. He does
• 43:49
Speaker 5: have opposition to the general.
• 43:50
Speaker 21: He does Paul Monroe, you know, great guy.
• 43:52
  Speaker 5: I know Paul.
• 43:54
Speaker 21: But the voters get a decide. And so I understand
• 43:57
Speaker 21: that perhaps there was a concern about giving Jared an
• 44:01
Speaker 21: unfair advantage in the general. Perhaps that was, you know,
• 44:04
Speaker 21: one concern. But as I point out last time I
• 44:07
Speaker 21: was on the show, it's not an advantage. In fact,
• 44:10
Speaker 21: I think the majority of people who receive appointments lose
• 44:14
  Speaker 21: the next election.
• 44:15
Speaker 6: Okay, and I gonna take a break, but I want
• 44:17
Speaker 6: you to follow up on that point. And we sat

Speaker 21: folks pay attention to, and then there's the seventy percent

Speaker 21: of all the rest with right and we're just kind
• 48:01
Speaker 21: of we just want to do the right thing. We
• 48:03
Speaker 21: wanted to just move move forward, do the right thing
• 48:06
Speaker 21: and have no issues, but unfortunately we get I think
• 48:10
Speaker 21: a lot of things are sidetracked. And by the side
• 48:13
  Speaker 21: shows it happens.
• 48:15
Speaker 6: And by the way, I do want to say I
• 48:16
Speaker 6: have commissioned President Selango on the show.
• 48:19
  Speaker 17: Now.
• 48:20
Speaker 6: Commissioner Tenant has been on the show. I mean she

Speaker 6: guest hosted for me at one point anytime. Yeah, while
• 48:25
Speaker 6: I was on vacation, she guest hosted for me one day.
• 48:28
Speaker 6: But she's more than welcome to come on the show
• 48:30
Speaker 6: at any times. Natalie, if you're just reach out, you're
• 48:32
Speaker 6: more than welcome to come on the show anytime. Do
• 48:33
Speaker 6: you want you want as well? I just actually had
• 48:36
Speaker 6: you already scheduled today anyway, So are you hopeful because
• 48:40
Speaker 6: between now, how many meetings do you have between now
• 48:42
  Speaker 6: and that one?
• 48:43
  Speaker 5: Just once?
• 48:43
Speaker 21: We have one in early August and then one on
• 48:45
Speaker 21: August twenty seventh. I was thinking about if we could
• 48:48
Speaker 21: do it in the first meeting in August, but there's
• 48:52
Speaker 21: a statute that we have to follow, so we have
• 48:54
Speaker 21: to give the Executive Committee enough time to meet or
• 48:57
Speaker 21: if their chair is gonna pick it, that's up to them.
• 49:00
Speaker 21: Their bylaws, they get to select the names. And then
• 49:03
Speaker 21: I didn't think we'd have enough time to do that
• 49:05
Speaker 21: in time for our August sixth meeting, So we've asked
• 49:08
Speaker 21: them to submit the names by August fifteenth, and those
• 49:10
Speaker 21: will be public. You know, we'll turn over the uh,
• 49:13
Speaker 21: we'll make sure that we publish the letter that they
• 49:15
Speaker 21: send us with the names on it, and then we
• 49:17
Speaker 21: will come out on August twenty seventh and do our strikes. Now,
• 49:21
Speaker 21: that doesn't mean that, first of all, doesn't mean Jared's
• 49:24
Speaker 21: gonna beile a list right right, Yeah, I presume he will,
• 49:27
Speaker 21: since I got a letter from the Republican Executive Committee
• 49:30
Speaker 21: asking us to appoint him. But it could be could
• 49:33
Speaker 21: be three other names or there. You know, even if
• 49:36
Speaker 21: Jared's on the list, maybe he is not stricken and
• 49:40
Speaker 21: he serves or maybe shoot, maybe I have a change.
• 49:43
Speaker 5: Who knows. I mean, anything can happen between now and then.
• 49:45
Speaker 5: But now obviously you're not allowed to.
• 49:48
Speaker 6: I mean I would think you can't because well you
• 49:51
Speaker 6: number one, You and Natalie Tenant both Democrats, so a
• 49:53
Speaker 6: lot of like you would be contacting the Republican and saying, hey,
• 49:56
Speaker 6: we want this person of that person. I mean, I mean,
• 49:58
Speaker 6: I guess you could talk to Republicans all I know,
• 50:00
  Speaker 6: I understand.
• 50:01
  Speaker 5: I'm just saying.
• 50:02
Speaker 6: I'm just saying, but there's not going to be You're
• 50:03
Speaker 6: just gonna have to play the waiting.
• 50:05
Speaker 21: This is their decision. They get to pick it, and
• 50:08
Speaker 21: I'm not going to try to influence it. They get
• 50:10
Speaker 21: to send me whoever in Natalie, whoever they want to send,
• 50:13
Speaker 21: and it'll be three names, and I'm not going to
• 50:15
Speaker 21: interfere with that process. To me, the Republican voters spoke
• 50:19
Speaker 21: in the primary in Kannall County. They said who they want,
• 50:24
Speaker 21: and I assume that Jared will be in Lewis, but
• 50:25
Speaker 21: it doesn't mean he will be and they can send
• 50:27
Speaker 21: us whoever they want.
• 50:28
Speaker 5: All right, one of them will be a commissioner.
• 50:29
Speaker 6: All right for a while anyway, and we'll see what
• 50:32
Speaker 6: happens after that. There was all right, Ken County Commission
