- 2:23want to apologize to my mama. Okay, So we have the kid whisper,
- 2:30the parent whisper, a very good family member. Yes we are families,
- 2:35so you know that smart intelligence run through our lives. I have my
- 2:38very own cousin who's an author. I am so proud of her. From
- 2:43the Simone Doxy she is the author of Understanding your Millennial Kid. I need
- 2:53this book and I know y'all need it cause plenty of times you want to
- 2:57make it here not anymore. So she's gonna give us some tips on how
- 3:01we can deal with these kids hours. So you guys welcome to SC book.
- 3:06Geld and Friends author Simone Doxy Hey girly, Hello, Hello, hey
- 3:13Cus and y'all. She always has the smile all the time from ear to
- 3:19ear. So I'm first gonna say I'm proud of you. I'm saying you
- 3:24so it is an honor to have you here. So first of all,
- 3:30I always say, tell your future readers about yourself. Let's do see,
- 3:37all right, So I am born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina.
- 3:42But I'm not just gonna tell you about myself. Now, I have to
- 3:45tie you in too how I got here, because how I came up as
- 3:51a direct reflection of how I got to this place. Okay, so just
- 3:53stay with me, all right, all right, So I was I'm gonna
- 3:58raised in Charleston, South Carolina. However, from my early beginning was in
- 4:01lads in South Carolina with my father and my mother together with me and my
- 4:06brother, all right. So I came from a two parent household, all
- 4:12right, coming through. My father was army and navy, so I had
- 4:15the structure. And my mother is a social worker, all right, so
- 4:20I had that nurture and that you know that good old let me reason with
- 4:26you, right, So that was early beginning Now my journey keeps going.
- 4:32As they ended up getting divorced, all right. Didn't see it then,
- 4:38but it was God set me up or something later, all right. So
- 4:41with the divorce, that means we had to move, So stay down with
- 4:45Granny for a little while, Union Heights, the Hike area. That that
- 4:49was part two of my life, right, So part one, Mom and
- 4:54Daddy together, great family household. Things didn't work out, boom split,
- 5:00all right, So now I'm at a single mom being raised by a single
- 5:02mom. Went to North Chawton High School, just was thriving, had those
- 5:08same principles and still but eventually it was a greater something being working being worked
- 5:15in me. Right, So graduate from high school, went into the army,
- 5:18all right, Dad was army, went in the army, transition through
- 5:24the army, still trying to figure it out, got out of the Army.
- 5:29Now, this whole time, I've always been affiliated, and people just
- 5:31been drawn to me with kids stuff I don't know, but kids been drawn
- 5:38to me, young teenagers, young adults, just drawn to me. You
- 5:42know. I embraced that and I did what I needed to do, not
- 5:44really knowing what that was. Right. So after I got out the Army,
- 5:49still trying to find my way. Okay, God, all right,
- 5:53my careers has come to an end. There, what do you have for
- 5:56me? Now? This some overseas contract work, still affiliated with the military.
- 6:02But also I'm still feeling that nurturing thing. People still gravitating towards me.
- 6:08Kids and Sunday school teacher. My mom was a Sunday school teacher.
- 6:12I ended up taking her, taking her spot and becoming a Sunday school teacher.
- 6:17Eventually. Now I ended up in education. Eventually I ended up at
- 6:25the Military Magnet. Right in between that time, I was able to be
- 6:28blessed and have my son. His name is mister Hamilton, and he owns
- 6:31every bit of it. Avid athlete, very smart, straight a student.
- 6:40And so I ended up at military Magnet. So this is where I am
- 6:44now. So that's that's a little bit about me, without getting too long
- 6:47and drawn out, trying to summarize it. So now you guys see why
- 6:51she knows what she's talking about. So education I need working at a library.
- 7:00I would not say I'm an education but how do you do it?
- 7:05It's I only have them for like maybe two to three hours, and I
- 7:11think they are the reason for the gray hair on this side, and the
- 7:15kids are the reason for the gray hall on this side, and the gray
- 7:16had together in the middle. But how do you do it? Yeah,
- 7:24so it came to me, right, I didn't find education. Education came
- 7:29to me using my military background and just being a military magnet academy. You
- 7:39know, I apply on that side of the house. I still didn't know
- 7:43that my gift is is what's brought me to this place. I'm thinking still
- 7:48military now, I'm not thinking the part where the kids and how they need
- 7:54me and how that how I can be that person for them, brought me
- 7:57to education. So it really found me to be honest, and I have
- 8:01the patience for it, you know, have the patience for it. And
- 8:07that's what We'll talk more about that a little bit later on. But that's
- 8:11pretty much how I got into it, though by way of the military.
- 8:15See you didn't even notice, but we saw each other at the Christmas parade
- 8:18last year. Y'all should have seen all the kids around her, and I'm
- 8:22thinking to myself, love, she good? You see whatn't I'm sure would
- 8:26have been getting block in the right odd but they were just around you,
- 8:30like, oh, I was like, oh my god, like I see
- 8:35what you say that they are drawn to you. I see that. I
- 8:37see that at so many levels. So what need you want to write this
- 8:43book? Well, maybe want write this book. Yes, there are so
- 8:48many based It was almost like a little work study, a little case study
- 8:54that I just accumulated over the years. They always say starting doxy my,
- 9:00my parents just don't understand me. They don't get me. We we do
- 9:03this a lot, you know, And I got my life coaching certification first,
- 9:09so I always I've just been trying to pare parents with their kids as
- 9:13they but heads and I'm just like, something's wrong here, Like are we
- 9:18really that distant from our kids right now? And we are as parents,
- 9:22we are a little bit distant. We want to do it our way,
- 9:26We want to do it the way that we were raised. And so I
- 9:28just wanted to to show parents like just bridge bridges gap is it's a big
- 9:35it's a big gap from how we were, how we came up into where
- 9:37they are right now. We can't do things the same we we used to
- 9:41do not if you really want to have a great relationship with your kid,
- 9:46gotta do it differently. So that's what propelled me to write the book Let
- 9:48me help, Let me help my sisters and brothers out, and guess what,
- 9:52let me help my grandparents out too. There's a lot of grandparents are
- 9:54raising their kids. Yeah, grandkids the big thing. Now, a lot
- 10:00of grandparents. And I think the name of it is called from my sister
- 10:05askedally, I think it's called kinship. Now we're out of the grandparents are
- 10:09stepping in the role of parents. So I mean, I really understand that,
- 10:15yap, because when I look at Anaya, it's like I can't do
- 10:20the things that my mom did because with her is like, oh well,
- 10:26you know, it's like you know, it's like it doesn't FaZe her.
- 10:30You go in your room and sit down, and she's like okay, and
- 10:31she just goes in the room, and I'm like, I was like,
- 10:33I want, I want to be anyway. Yeah, it's like, don't
- 10:37you understand I'm putting you on the punishment, Like okay, but mommy,
- 10:41I just want to tell you. I'm like, really, didn't act you
- 10:43that. But then I had to realize that she has something she want to
- 10:48say. We can't do like we were raised, you keep quiet and you
- 10:52go on the room to sit down. You actually have to listen to these
- 10:56kids nowadays, because if we don't listen to them, there's plendy people out
- 11:00there that's willing to listen to them. Give them. Yeah, I write
- 11:03things, so yes, so what's the difference. And I'm gonna bring in
- 11:13something that I have to deal with. So I'm I'm the I have a
- 11:18girl, you guys. I told my someone, Dad said, if if
- 11:22she came in before you, you would not exist. He's like, why,
- 11:28mam, I say that thing called sassy mouth? How to me,
- 11:35it's called sassy to her, is called I'm trying to speak to you.
- 11:41How do you bridge that cap with? Yeah? So we gotta teach them
- 11:48from like two years old, soon as they can start talking how to communicate.
- 11:54Communication will kill it, make it, or break it. It's not
- 11:58what you say, is how you say it. I want you to be
- 12:01able to express yourself and tell exactly how it is, what it is,
- 12:07Tell me how you feel. But this is how we're gonna do it.
- 12:11We're gonna do it to where Mommy can hear you and understand what you're saying
- 12:16this and this is how you do it. Okay, take a minute because
- 12:20when you're upset, Mom, can't hear anything that you're saying when you're upset
- 12:24because you have that high energy. And that's what I call it high energy.
- 12:28And what we say it's sad, semi or being loud or talking back,
- 12:33it's a high it's a high energy. It's emotions. We go through
- 12:35it when we get upset. What do we do right? So sing them
- 12:41early. It's a natural emotion to go off and to be loud, even
- 12:46when you don't mean no harm. Because what we have to teach them is
- 12:48it's not how you take how you take it, or how you want people
- 12:52to take it. It's how I receive it. It's how I receive it.
- 12:56Is what's offensive as a parent. That's just respectful when really they're not
- 13:00really trying to bes respectful. They're really just trying to tell you. But
- 13:01their emotions are so hot, So calm down. What I just say,
- 13:05I look at them if they are in that moment, All right, are
- 13:09you done? Now tell me again what you want to say. But it
- 13:13takes a level of patients. It's it's work and it's practiced because it has
- 13:16to be taught. They don't they're human beings. I always say that in
- 13:20my book, we're human beings. They're not yours. We God give them
- 13:24to us. But they're humans. They flesh, they have emotions, and
- 13:28they have feelings. So we have to treat it as such and just understand
- 13:31to be patient with it. You know, reteach. It's gonna take a
- 13:33lot of reteach, and especially if you're starting now. That's why I say,
- 13:37if you got a new kid, they two or three years old,
- 13:39just learning how to talk and communicate, it can be really taught and broke
- 13:43down early. But if you have like an older kid, a teenager or
- 13:46a young adult, all these practices have to be restructured in and just retaught.
- 13:52That's all Godly. I never thought of that. I never wow because
- 14:01that high pitched voice, Oh my god, that is like so draining and
- 14:05at that time respect, Why what's that level of control with us where somebody
- 14:11talks loud to us? We think it's yeah, yeah, it makes sense
- 14:18now because I used to be like, okay, now, because you because
- 14:20you per se, but there are feelings and emotions. It's just up and
- 14:28it's just not time to talk it. Just like with us when you upset
- 14:31with your spouse or your partner or whoever it is. It's not good to
- 14:35talk when you upset. You need to take a minute, like give me,
- 14:39give me ten minutes and then we can talk. But you gotta get
- 14:43it out. You have to talk. Yeah, I wonder why I call
- 14:46it a kid whisper. I mean, come on, you know what,
- 14:48you guys, y'all better stay tuned. We're gonna come back, and you
- 14:50know the second half. I usually have a little fun, but we still
- 14:54want to keep it a little fun. We still got some more questions from
- 14:56this docsie. She just really blew my mom, and I really wrote down
- 15:01what she said, like, okay, but we're going to take a commercial,
- 15:05you guys, and we will be back. Y'all don't want to miss
- 15:07this parents here, it's for us, but we're coming back. You guys.

- 16:07even then in a commercial, my daughter just came in here and she's like,
- 16:10oh my god, Mommy, we need to talk. I was like,
- 16:12can you give me fifteen okay, just have a hug? And I
- 16:17gave her a hug and it and it kind of resident and it stuck with
- 16:21me what she said. So it's like, okay, so when we get
- 16:23off, that gives her time to go through her little emotional thing and then
- 16:29I can give her fifteen minutes and she there you go. So, how
- 16:37has this writing in your book has said? How has it changed your your
- 16:42parenting style or how does it change your look on parenting and how about like
- 16:51our age and how we parentility kids? When you wrote your book, how
- 16:55did it make any changes? So? I wrote it because I was.
- 17:00I was already doing this unique way of parenting. Right. Some people say
- 17:03gentle parenting, and I just say, let's think about it more just like
- 17:07cheating our kids, Like they're just human beings and they're just not our children.
- 17:12Right. So I've already been doing it. But other people's onlooking to
- 17:18how our parent, mister, and they're just like that's different, Like who,
- 17:22okay, how do you do that? You know, what is what
- 17:26happens here? So that's kind of my book really came about because I wanted
- 17:30to help other parents that may just be struggling. I have to learn the
- 17:36process of this different way, right because you said earlier. If you don't,
- 17:41if you're not their major influence or their first influence, they're going to
- 17:45get that influence from somebody someplace else. Yeah, they're going through So you
- 17:48have to find a way for you to be that first influence in their life
- 17:53and then you know, help them guide, you know, guide their ways
- 17:57if they see other people or if they are admire or if he and my
- 18:00other people. But try to be that first, if you're that first,
- 18:03that they're gonna come to you first. Now that that's that's true, you
- 18:11know, we need. We have to be that and and with with the
- 18:18naya because I can't really say James James type. James was one of those
- 18:22kids that okay, Mom, okay mom, and even now he's yes ma'am,
- 18:27yes ma'am. But just naya, my daughter. It's a it's like
- 18:32a daily challenge. And now it's getting better because after I read your book,
- 18:37it was like, okay, yeah, give her time to talk.
- 18:41She does have big emotions, and I do tell her, I said,
- 18:45you are you having big emotions? Do we need to do a breathing exercise
- 18:48and we'll do it together, or I'll signal if she needs her time and
- 18:53we're in the middle of going at it, she'll do like this and she'll
- 18:57go in her friend. Yeah, I tell me that. Okay, I'm
- 19:00about to say nothing something wrong, mummy, So I'm gonna go in my
- 19:03room a calm now le Maybe about ten fifteen minutes later she'd come back.
- 19:07She's like, can we talk? And I'm like, okay, here we
- 19:11go. So but that gives me time as a parent to gather my emotions
- 19:17and get it correct because some times where we are like this and you see
- 19:21the train wreck coming. Yeah, and instead of us like try to to
- 19:26we go and it's like, okay, so you are totally, totally,
- 19:33totally, totally right. So yeah, it's work. It's work, and
- 19:37and what we don't want to we want to create productive adults and citizens.
- 19:41We don't want them to show up as the eleven year old mister or Denia
- 19:47that's an adult that don't know how to manage their emotions. It starts now
- 19:51like you have to teach them how to manage their emotions. They're gonna get
- 19:52out there in the world world and think that that's okay. It's not okay
- 19:56communicate effectively, right said you can't be direct, and you can't, but
- 20:00don't go anybody in workplace like this like yes almost, yes man, sir,
- 20:07But I feel like I need a raise because of ABCD. I feel
- 20:11like things are not going right because of ABCD. Not throwing a tantrum.
- 20:18Yes, let's be clear cut and concise about what we want and how we
- 20:22communicate. And that's all really You're You're trying to raise them to be productive
- 20:26citizens that know how to use their words to say what they need to say
- 20:32without a fit. That's what I'm talking about, y'all. Y'all need to
- 20:37get this book. So you know, I'm gonna put on my page and
- 20:40how we're getting the books. But get your pens and pencils because she you
- 20:44need a piece of paper. Don't be like me and write on your hand.
- 20:45Okay, but go ahead and get that. We got all fun questions
- 20:49real quick. So when you are not writing, what is MSDOCSI doing for
- 20:56fun? Yeah? Well, of course I love working. I'm at Military
- 21:03Magnet. I can't say that enough. I it's it's a joy to be
- 21:07able to go there and just and my kids, like you know what I'm
- 21:10saying, Like if I'm not when I'm not writing, that's what I'm doing.
- 21:14And of course mister has we have our hands full with being busy with
- 21:18playing sports, and you know, I'm a sports mom momager, so I
- 21:22enjoy that a lot. For my me time. It's exercising. It's mind,
- 21:29body and soul. And believe it or not, I go through fast
- 21:32every every ninety days, I go through a thirty day fast. Me and
- 21:36my partner. We do it together and it's the best thing. So a
- 21:40whole thirty days when I'm when I'm not writing, every ninety days we do
- 21:45a thirty day. It's a very disciplined thing. Six to six. It's
- 21:51no food from six to six. Mind body and soul, be clear minded.
- 21:57It's the best thing. So exercise, mamager, work and then get
- 22:04to it when it's time to get back to the writing. It's wonderful.
- 22:08There you go. So my two fun questions for you. If you can
- 22:17have your book done by a voice over by any celebrity, who would it
- 22:23be? Anybody? Anybody? All right? I got two. I'm gonna
- 22:30I got two. Who we got? Who we got? Steve Harvey and
- 22:37Rogie p Hinson. Oh, that would be hilarious with Steve and Taragie.
- 22:45I can hear the attitude coming as I think about some of them. Oh,
- 22:49that would be hilarious for that an atmosphere right there. Taggie and Steve,
- 22:56y'all go ahead. And to Rogie and Steve, y'all y'all got money,
- 22:59y'allking, bring this way, come on and get the book now.
- 23:02My last question, that was my one more fun question. So for our
- 23:07generation, are we talking living single or a different world? We're talking different
- 23:12world? Girl? Why I got that on the TV right now? We're
- 23:17talking world. We got the episode when they say big sister, gorgeous one
- 23:22going right now? All right, okay, well you got this is my
- 23:26family. And it was a little bit too. They were a little older,
- 23:30so yeah, I at first I wasn't into living single. But when
- 23:37he started with Maxine and Nicle, yeah that was hilarious. Those two kept
- 23:44it interesting. Yeah, and it's like you love him, but you calling
- 23:47him the scoming to Earthew, cool girl, a different world. They always
- 23:53had a lesson, yes, always, you always got something out of So
- 24:00that's why I was like, yeah, I'm looking at it for something I'm
- 24:03gonna get out of this. They always had issues, current issues, you
- 24:06know, yes, especially at that time, and they didn't shy away from
- 24:11it. And that's the thing about it. And it was on a level
- 24:15that we as an African Americans we can understand. I mean, we all
- 24:18wanted to go to human. I felt bad when I realized there wasn't a
- 24:22human. I thought for sure there was a human college me too, until
- 24:29it's like, there's no human that's made up, that was made up by
- 24:30boy. No it's not there's a there's a there's no human. I said,
- 24:37Godly, I really thought there was a human. Yeah yea, So
- 24:44now you have to tell us what would you like to sity your readers.
- 24:48How can you get that book? And how can they follow you on TikTok
- 24:53for all those good at bike Oh she dropped off. Well you guys,
- 24:59I'm still gonna have her information. I'm still going to tell you how you
- 25:03can get understanding all my cameras and like me, understanding the millennial kid.
- 25:08I have a copy here. Her name is Simone Darcy. She is found
- 25:12on Oh she's coming back. She's found on Facebook. Okay, there she
- 25:18is. So tell us how we can contact you, how we can get
- 25:23your book, how we can follow you on TikTok, because you do have
- 25:27a TikTok and you have those little gyms that you drop because I follow you.
