- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me now for another Football at four.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We're gonna look at the Eagles depth chart as things
- 0:04Speaker 2: shape out up to the draft. There's a lot of
- 0:07Speaker 2: stuff we're kind of taking a look at.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Here that is very intriguing. Adam Kaplan from Inside the Birds.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Inside the Birds podcast you can get on all podcasting platforms,
- 0:18Speaker 2: joins me now. And you know, Adam, we just announced
- 0:20Speaker 2: we're going to be at Ocean the Balcony Bar for
- 0:23Speaker 2: our draft party. The draft less than a month away.
- 0:27Speaker 2: But the Eagles, you know, getting ready for this draft.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Let's take a look what they look like on the
- 0:32Speaker 2: offensive side of.
- 0:33Speaker 1: The ball, very similar to what they looked like last year.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Right, Well, one little change here, we'll start a quarterback
- 0:41Speaker 3: and then their injury concerns obviously with the offensive line,
- 0:45Speaker 3: some depth challenges. But the subject of our past this
- 0:48Speaker 3: past Monday show is what we're going to talk about here.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's the what does the I know? Team still put
- 0:54Speaker 3: out depth charts, but we kind of know it anyway,
- 0:56Speaker 3: and you were kind of alluding to it. A lot
- 0:58Speaker 3: of it looks the same, little some small differences, but
- 1:01Speaker 3: it hurts. It's mcke and the new guy, and he
- 1:03Speaker 3: don't will be the three, McKee's the two and Hurts
- 1:05Speaker 3: as the one. Well. As opposed to Jeff Moscher on
- 1:09Speaker 3: our Monday Morning show, would it surprise you at all
- 1:13Speaker 3: if they drafted the quarterback early? We're quarterback at all
- 1:15Speaker 3: and he goes no. We both agreed it would not
- 1:17Speaker 3: be a surprise at all. Again, McKee will be playing
- 1:20Speaker 3: elsewhere in twenty seven. He might be a starter elseoort
- 1:23Speaker 3: of fact, I'm sure he will be based on the
- 1:25Speaker 3: way this league looks. He's well liked by personnal people
- 1:29Speaker 3: around the league, so he'll be playing somewhere else in
- 1:32Speaker 3: twenty seven. Golton's thirty eight years old. As we reported
- 1:37Speaker 3: three years ago, it was between the Panthers and the Eagles.
- 1:40Speaker 3: At the last moment he decided to sign with the
- 1:42Speaker 3: Panthers and he was there for a few years and
- 1:45Speaker 3: now he's just been acquired. But it's really mike about
- 1:49Speaker 3: the future at this position and who will be hurt
- 1:52Speaker 3: as backup. Now, I would tell you if they took
- 1:55Speaker 3: a quarterback as high as the second round, ironically that's
- 1:58Speaker 3: where they took Hurts in the twenty twenty three, which
- 2:00Speaker 3: shocked us, then you would have to question Hurts hurts
- 2:05Speaker 3: his future as the starting quarterback.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Well, and I would ask the follow up with the
- 2:10Speaker 2: edition of Dalton, do you think that makes it more
- 2:13Speaker 2: plausible that they would move McKee?
- 2:16Speaker 3: Not really, how I'm told how he is always like Dalton.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You have to carry three quarterbacks in training camp. It
- 2:23Speaker 3: just gives you the insurance policy if they would trade McKey,
- 2:28Speaker 3: because you would not want that guy. Remember, the Eagles
- 2:30Speaker 3: are running a brand new offenses here that Hurts us
- 2:32Speaker 3: not played in. McKee and Dalton has played in a
- 2:35Speaker 3: West Coast system before. But it's going to be a
- 2:38Speaker 3: learning experience for Hurts the starter and McKee the number two.
- 2:42Speaker 3: But it does give the insurance policy if they do
- 2:47Speaker 3: wind up trading McKee.
- 2:48Speaker 2: All right, Adam running back, They did sign a running
- 2:51Speaker 2: back one that you know has a pretty decent season
- 2:54Speaker 2: under his belt in Pierce Barkley. We know is the
- 2:57Speaker 2: guy Tank Bigsby gave a you know, had a little
- 3:01Speaker 2: burst last year. Then of course will Shipley.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, boy, I was just it's funny you mentioned Bigsby
- 3:08Speaker 3: and for some reason this came up on YouTube. Tank
- 3:13Speaker 3: Bigsby that that checkdown he got from Tanner McKee in
- 3:16Speaker 3: a week whatever it was eighteen against the Commanders. I mean,
- 3:21Speaker 3: his explosion to the outside, it's just ridiculous. I didn't
- 3:24Speaker 3: It's one of these situations when they got Bigsby. Like, Okay,
- 3:27Speaker 3: So the Jaguars drafted Tuden running back last year, so
- 3:32Speaker 3: they made Bigsby expendable. That's fine, and he was inherited
- 3:36Speaker 3: by the new coaching staff and the front office, so
- 3:38Speaker 3: they traded him. But he's a better football player than Shipley.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Shipley has been okay at times, Mike, but he's not
- 3:45Speaker 3: been quite what the Eagles thought he would be. And
- 3:47Speaker 3: now he's got time left. He's in his third year.
- 3:49Speaker 3: He's got two years left. And you mentioned Damian Pierce, who,
- 3:51Speaker 3: as great as a rookie, regressed. They changed the offense,
- 3:55Speaker 3: as we noted a few weeks ago when they signed him,
- 3:59Speaker 3: the Texans changed their offense completely. He was not a
- 4:02Speaker 3: good fit. Ironically, it's the same system or similar system
- 4:05Speaker 3: that they're running here with the Eagles. So I don't
- 4:07Speaker 3: know that he's a good fit, and he's a major
- 4:09Speaker 3: long shot to make the team at this point.
- 4:11Speaker 2: All Right, that's the running back room there, and of
- 4:13Speaker 2: course the wide receiver room. A lot of stuff still
- 4:17Speaker 2: circulating around AJ Brown. They did sign Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore,
- 4:23Speaker 2: Devonte Smith is still here. But there's a couple guys
- 4:26Speaker 2: at the back end of this depth chart that are interesting.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and this becomes important, Mite because whether Brown is
- 4:33Speaker 3: here or not, where turnam and A J.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Brown.
- 4:37Speaker 3: The thought is here. They're gonna play a ton of
- 4:40Speaker 3: twelve personnel. A. They're gonna be a running team with Barklay.
- 4:44Speaker 3: You see the type of tight ends that they brought in.
- 4:46Speaker 3: They brought in Johnny Mutt specifically to block. That'll help
- 4:50Speaker 3: Calcaterra be freed up a little bit. They got cam
- 4:53Speaker 3: Lott to who's more of a y to the end
- 4:56Speaker 3: in line tight end. And you go back to the
- 4:59Speaker 3: your position that you mentioned. It's Brown and Smith, it's
- 5:01Speaker 3: Hollywood Brown, it's Elijah Moore again, he had his signing.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Has zero to do with A. J. Brown, trust me
- 5:08Speaker 3: on that one, and had nothing to do with it.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They were looking for a potential backup to Devonte Smith. Brown.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Hollywood Brown would probably play in AJ brown spot. If
- 5:19Speaker 3: they trade AJ and they don't draft a receiver early,
- 5:22Speaker 3: we're talking about the first year rounds. That's where you
- 5:23Speaker 3: could see Hollywood Brown Moore could play the slot. He's
- 5:26Speaker 3: really the one guy of the guys who of the
- 5:30Speaker 3: back end players who have a chance to make it.
- 5:33Speaker 3: He's talented. He just has completely fallen off to the
- 5:35Speaker 3: point and make at twenty six years old, people around
- 5:38Speaker 3: the league wonder what a what's happened to him? And
- 5:40Speaker 3: can he still play? It's not an injury situation. It's
- 5:44Speaker 3: a performance and a commented issue. It's kind of lost him.
- 5:47Speaker 3: But he looked good in his first year with the
- 5:49Speaker 3: Jets and for his time with the Browns. He after
- 5:53Speaker 3: showed he could play, but since then it's he's kind
- 5:54Speaker 3: of fallen off.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Adam Cavil, let's look at the tight ends. You kind
- 5:57Speaker 2: of hinted at them a little bit. But my question
- 6:00Speaker 2: is you got got you got Calcatara months.
- 6:02Speaker 1: A blocking guy.
- 6:04Speaker 2: What how is the tight ends role going to change
- 6:07Speaker 2: in this offense from what it was?
- 6:09Speaker 3: It's going to be important. It's a West Coast scheme.
- 6:12Speaker 3: There's no way to know percentage wise, you know how
- 6:14Speaker 3: much of Shanahan versus mcveig they're going to run because
- 6:18Speaker 3: their staff has experienced with both, uh, the offensive coordinator
- 6:22Speaker 3: has got more experience in McVeigh uh than others. And
- 6:26Speaker 3: remember he was drafted by the Rams, so I mean
- 6:30Speaker 3: he was he was with the Rams, so you know
- 6:31Speaker 3: that he knows that system and also the McConnell system,
- 6:34Speaker 3: which is a which is more McVeigh. So it's gonna
- 6:38Speaker 3: be fascinating. But the tight end will be available, I
- 6:40Speaker 3: mean it will be. It's going to be used more,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I believe. Overall, then it's not so much pass targets.
- 6:46Speaker 3: It's about how they use them. And I look at
- 6:50Speaker 3: more creativity with Sean Manion the new play caller, and
- 6:55Speaker 3: it's one of his top assistants, Ryan Mahaffey who's a
- 6:58Speaker 3: tight ends coach who he was with, and Green Bay
- 7:00Speaker 3: who also be the run game coordinator. This is a
- 7:02Speaker 3: big deal here. There's gonna be some change schematically. As
- 7:05Speaker 3: we told you at the time, the offense will look
- 7:07Speaker 3: is going to look different. It's just gonna be different.
- 7:09Speaker 3: The philosophy is different, the technology terminology is as we
- 7:13Speaker 3: knew in Syriatic. Confirm it during his press briefing in
- 7:16Speaker 3: Phoenix on Monday. It's going to change. So it's it's
- 7:19Speaker 3: gonna look different. I'm looking forward to this because there's
- 7:21Speaker 3: a lot of unknowns here, all.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Right, Adam an issue they had last year obviously the
- 7:25Speaker 2: offensive line, Landon Dickerson thought about retirement Tyler Steen. You know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: at an up and down year, I think most people
- 7:32Speaker 2: would have called him the weak part of the offensive line.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't even know if that's.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Fair considering Jurgons and Dickerson's health issues in the years
- 7:38Speaker 2: they had. But what does the interior of that line
- 7:41Speaker 2: look like? Now?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Have they got enough depth there?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Mc daill. Fred Johnson came back, which is what we
- 7:49Speaker 3: thought would happen. Now On Sophomo is a starter. He's
- 7:52Speaker 3: just a good backup. He's one of the better backup
- 7:54Speaker 3: swinging tackles. He could start at right or left tackle.
- 7:57Speaker 3: But after Fred, you just don't. You have Cam Williams,
- 8:02Speaker 3: who had an intriguing start against Washington, a lot of upside.
- 8:06Speaker 3: The thing with him is the total commitment to being great.
- 8:09Speaker 3: This is the question why he dropped to the sixth round.
- 8:12Speaker 3: It's sort of a wild card. But they don't know
- 8:16Speaker 3: yet what he can be. But they're still searching for
- 8:18Speaker 3: Lane Johnson's replacement, long term replacement. But the depth they've
- 8:22Speaker 3: got their swing tackle, the need they don't have that
- 8:24Speaker 3: guy in the interior right now, Mike, that's a problem.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Drew Kennell is better off at center than guard. He
- 8:29Speaker 3: could play both, but from what we've we've been told,
- 8:33Speaker 3: center makes way more sense for him, and particularly in
- 8:35Speaker 3: this offense. We'll see what happens in OT's in training
- 8:38Speaker 3: camp and Willie Lampkin is not playing in the National
- 8:41Speaker 3: Football He was an undrafted free agent because of his size.
- 8:44Speaker 3: He's under five foot eleven, Mike, that's unheard of. So
- 8:50Speaker 3: he's a guy that we'll see if he could even
- 8:53Speaker 3: challenge dev a roster spot. But he's intriguing from an
- 8:55Speaker 3: athletic standpoint. He could play center and guard. By the way,
- 8:59Speaker 3: they need badly a backup center guard here. They really
- 9:03Speaker 3: need to add one. We expect one to be at
- 9:05Speaker 3: it by training camp.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Now.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I could come in the draft, by the way, high Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 3: because as you mentioned about Dickerson's future, so it could
- 9:10Speaker 3: come in the first couple of rounds. Went surprises all.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Right, Adam Kaplain from the inside of the Birds podcast.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Don't forget you can get it on all podcasting platforms.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Those guys are talking Birds all offseason. So are we
- 9:20Speaker 2: on football?
- 9:21Speaker 1: At four?
- 9:21Speaker 2: The last spot on the offense is the tackle position.
- 9:24Speaker 2: My Lot is back, Lane Johnson is back. Fred Johnson
- 9:28Speaker 2: is also back. So they have three guys who are
- 9:31Speaker 2: very capable there. What if somebody got hurt.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so I already talked about right tackle, but let's
- 9:37Speaker 3: let's tuck a left tackle. I'm glad you mentioned that.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So my Lot is a clear starter. Mileston didn't play
- 9:42Speaker 3: last season. Then Holland Pierce, who was cross trained briefly
- 9:45Speaker 3: a guard, he's a tackle. I mean, he's just too big.
- 9:47Speaker 3: He's over six foot eight. Some of the best measurables
- 9:51Speaker 3: at the draft has ever seen a tackle. But he's
- 9:53Speaker 3: just very, very raw. And the footwork, we're told needs
- 9:57Speaker 3: to improve greatly. And the guy that was art to
- 10:00Speaker 3: develop him is gone in terms of coaching, Jeff Stalin.
- 10:03Speaker 3: So Chris Cooper is going to have to develop him.
- 10:07Speaker 3: He's got major great trades in size, but he needs
- 10:10Speaker 3: major work. And you remember, might remember Chris Hinton who
- 10:15Speaker 3: was involved in the John Alway trade.
- 10:17Speaker 1: That that's Indianapolis, yep.
- 10:20Speaker 3: That's that's his dad. So Chris Hinton is a guy
- 10:23Speaker 3: that is a left tackle. He's not a right tackle.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He's a left tackle. They knock on him. We're told
- 10:28Speaker 3: from a scouting standpoint, is not physical really, he's more finesse,
- 10:32Speaker 3: but very athletic and smart. Good hand usage needs further development.
- 10:37Speaker 3: That's where Fred Johnson. That's why Fred Johnson is the
- 10:39Speaker 3: backup left tackle, right tackle, because he's got playing experiences
- 10:42Speaker 3: that he knows what to do. Mileton is a pure
- 10:45Speaker 3: developmental tackle who they want to look. He's got talent
- 10:48Speaker 3: out of Michigan, by the way, they want to see
- 10:50Speaker 3: more out of him, but it's going to be Fred
- 10:52Speaker 3: Johnson is my Latta and Lane Johnson's backup as of now.
- 10:55Speaker 1: All right, there you go.
- 10:56Speaker 2: There's a look at the Philadelphia Eagles on the offensive
- 10:59Speaker 2: side of the ball. The defense will take a look
- 11:01Speaker 2: at later on, certainly has a lot of different looks.
- 11:05Speaker 2: That offense very similar. How can they shake up that offense?
- 11:08Speaker 2: The draft on April twenty third, and I guess they
- 11:10Speaker 2: can still do some things here in free agency. We
- 11:14Speaker 2: shall see a trade could happen. Aj Brown, maybe Tanner McKee.
- 11:18Speaker 2: We will keep our eyes on that here on Football
- 11:20Speaker 2: at four and don't forget check out the Inside of
- 11:22Speaker 2: the Birds podcast on all podcasting platforms. Adam is back
- 11:27Speaker 2: on Friday, Adam Kaplan, Thanks buddy, Thank you.
