- 1:54Speaker 2: Awesome, Welcome and good afternoon everyone. Hello.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I'm Jody Emerson, Superintendent, director of the Centralvermonk Career Center
- 2:02School District and on behalf of the Central Vermont Career Center.
- 2:05It is my pleasure to welcome you to today's signing ceremony.
- 2:09This is a moment of both celebration and commitment, a
- 2:13time when we come together to recognize the power of
- 2:15collaboration and the shared responsibility we hold for the safety
- 2:19and well being of our communities. Today we formalize partnerships
- 2:23between the Central Vermont Career Center School District, Vermont EMS
- 2:27Districts six and eight, and the University of Vermont Health Network.
- 2:31These agreements create a clear path forward for expanding access
- 2:34to emergency medical services, education, and training right here in
- 2:38Central Vermont. This effort is about more than courses and certifications,
- 2:43It is about strengthening our emergency response system, meeting critical
- 2:47workforce needs, and ensuring that those who dedicate themselves to
- 2:51caring for others have the training and support they need
- 2:53to succeed. By combining our resources and utilizing the learning
- 2:58spaces of the Central Vermont Crew, we are eliminating redundancies
- 3:03in equipment and resource allocation, thereby increasing efficiency. We are
- 3:08excited to pilot this type of partnership in EMS training.
- 3:11I want to thank our partners Joe Aldsworth and David
- 3:14Danforth of District six, Matthew Parish of District eight, and
- 3:19Joshua Luduke of the University of Vermont Health Network Medical
- 3:23Center for their leadership and commitment to this work, and
- 3:26to the State Emergency Medical Services Chief Will Moran, who
- 3:29is providing additional support for this partnership.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Each of you brings vital.
- 3:34Speaker 7: Resources, expertise, envision to this collaboration and it is only
- 3:38through this shared effort that.
- 3:40Speaker 6: We can achieve such meaningful impact.
- 3:43Speaker 7: Thank you also to Commissioner Smith for joining us today,
- 3:46as well as our representatives from centers at Sander's office.
- 3:49As we sign these agreements today, let us also recognize
- 3:52what they represent a long term commitment to innovation, access,
- 3:58and excellence in emergency medical education. Together, we are building
- 4:02the foundation for a stronger, safer, and healthier Central Vermont.
- 4:06Thank you for joining us to celebrate this significant milestone.
- 4:09I will now turn the floor over to Maggie Burke,
- 4:12speaking on behalf of Senator Bernie Sanders.
- 4:21Speaker 8: Good afternoon. My name's Maggie Burke. I'm an outreach representative
- 4:25for Senator Bernie Sanders. I also happen to be a
- 4:27graduate of the UVM Paramedic Program. Dear friends, I'm sorry
- 4:33you cannot join you today or sorry reading this letter
- 4:35on behalf of Senator Sanders. Dear friends, I'm sorry you
- 4:39cannot join you today, but I want to extend my
- 4:41congratulations to everyone involved in this important partnership, Central Vermont
- 4:45Career Center, Vermont EMS District six and eight, the UVM
- 4:50Health Network Paramedic Program. Your collaboration sets an example of
- 4:54the way working together at a grassroots level can increase
- 4:57opportunities for vermontors throughout the state. Let's be clear, rural
- 5:01communities in Vermont these serious problems, and one of them
- 5:04is access to quality healthcare. When your neighbor or family
- 5:07member is in trouble, it's the EMS providers who show
- 5:10up first. Their training and judgment can be the difference
- 5:14between life and death.
- 5:15Speaker 1: We owe them more than just thanks.
- 5:17Speaker 2: We owe them real support.
- 5:19Speaker 8: That means doing all we can to ensure they are
- 5:21fully staffed, equipped and trained to respond to emergencies. And
- 5:25too many communities across the nation EMS agencies are not
- 5:28getting the support they need to do their jobs. It's
- 5:31time for that to change. This is why I was
- 5:34proud to secure congressionally directed spending to support more EMS
- 5:37education in Vermont, and why I'm pleased to hear about
- 5:40the partnerships you are announcing today. By connecting a career
- 5:43center and technical education center to local EMS districts and
- 5:47Vermont's largest health network, you are bringing opportunities to vermontors
- 5:51where they live. To my mind, if we want to
- 5:53ensure the future of EMS in Vermont, we've got to
- 5:56expand access to affordable training opportunities, especially to young people
- 6:01like students at Central Vermont Career Center, and to working
- 6:04class Vermonitors, and I'm hopeful these partnerships will do just that.
- 6:08Thank you for your commitment to this work and for
- 6:10helping a build and for helping build a stronger and
- 6:13healthier Vermont. Sincerely, Senator Bernie Sanders.
- 6:27Speaker 7: Next, I'd like to invite District's six chair, Joe Aldsworth.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for
- 6:41all being here and to extend my deepest gratitude to
- 6:44all our providers in the room. Without your Without you,
- 6:47EMS could not it would not exist. Each of us
- 6:50stepped forward into EMS one reason or another, but as
- 6:54a as a core, our work is about service to
- 6:57our communities. As we look towards the future of EMS,
- 7:01we stand at a turning point. Vermont EMS providers are
- 7:04balancing the realities of aging in place, fainly commitments, and
- 7:08the need to continue working. Unfortunately, this burden often follows
- 7:12on the few who remained active in the ranks, and
- 7:15we continue to see the attrition with fire, too few
- 7:18stepping forward to replace them. This cooperative effort seeks to
- 7:23challenge that we aim to harness the energy of our youth,
- 7:27to inspire them and to provide consistent, high quality and
- 7:30affordable training, both for the next generation and for those
- 7:34who serve today. Investing in our youth is a key
- 7:38to recruitment for future EMS professionals who will carry the
- 7:41torch forward. These goals are not only about sustaining EMS
- 7:46in District six and District eight, but it's also creating
- 7:49a model for the future of our EMS across the
- 7:52entire state of Vermont. This is an investment in quality, longevity,
- 7:56and resilience. I want to extend my sincere thanks to
- 7:59the Vermont EMS and Will Moran for supporting and believing
- 8:02in our vision. I also like to thank the University
- 8:06of University of Vermont for their ongoing commitment to training,
- 8:10and the Central Vermont Career Center for their shared vision
- 8:13of the future of MS and the skilled trades. Lastly,
- 8:17I want to thank the public for their unwavering support.
- 8:19Without you, our work would not be possible. So here's
- 8:23to the future of MS, to training that builds bridges
- 8:26to the future, vocations for our use to education that
- 8:29supports our curve providers, and the continued delivery of the
- 8:33highest quality pre hospital patient care which improves lives here
- 8:37in Central Vermont every day.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Next up is Matthew Parish, District eighth President.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I would just like to thank all the services from
- 8:57District to District six for including in this program.
- 9:00Speaker 9: I am excited to see some longevity and training and consistency.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Sure appreciate that.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Will Moran is next up, the State MS chief.
- 9:24Speaker 10: Thank you having number one. I want to thank you
- 9:28for the opportunity to be here today, UH and to
- 9:31represent the Health Department and the Commissioner in our investment
- 9:34in this regional UMS education collaborative. You know, training em
- 9:39S commatis today is difficult. The job we ask them
- 9:42to do is difficult, and the knowledge, skills and abilities
- 9:44they have to have to meet the public expectation of
- 9:47receiving high quality basic and advanced life support is unmatched
- 9:51and like nothing.
- 9:52Speaker 1: We've seen before.
- 9:54Speaker 10: So it's these type of collaborative efforts that we think
- 9:57are the future of the MS training and education across
- 9:59the city. You know, we look to folks in leadership
- 10:02positions both in EMS districts, in education centers, in our
- 10:06hospitals to create these opportunities, and it's a pleasure that
- 10:10the Health Department has to help fund these projects. So
- 10:14we look forward to continuing to support this lord and
- 10:17we look forward to seeing the resources of the program.
- 10:20Speaker 7: Thank you very much, josh Alla the Duke you become
- 10:28Paramedic Program Director.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 10:35Speaker 11: I'd love thank you all for coming today on this
- 10:37beautiful fall day here in Vermont, so that we can
- 10:40announce our partnership both to bring our paramedic program education
- 10:44directly here to Central Vermont, to support Central Vermont in
- 10:48bringing MS education close to home so that they can
- 10:51receive the same education that we are offering to both
- 10:53our New York partnership and a Vermont partnership in a
- 10:56hybrid format, so that people can focus on supporting their communities,
- 11:00their families, and bridging that all gap that we see
- 11:03in reural healthcare where we are not traveling hours to
- 11:06receive education, but we can stay close to home and
- 11:09continue to offer excellent services to both our community while
- 11:12also meeting our academic commitment to becoming paramedics and serving
- 11:16our communities better in the future. Thank you all for
- 11:19being here today.
- 11:21Speaker 7: Thank you, And finally, Commissioner Smith of the Department of Labor,
- 11:31thanks so much for being here.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Good afternoon, everybody.
- 11:41Speaker 9: My name's Kendall Smith and I'm the Commissioner of the
- 11:43Vermont Department of Labor, and I also want to mention
- 11:46I am a POWD. Spalding graduate who took classes at
- 11:50the career center behind me, So I could not be
- 11:53more thrilled to be standing in this parking lot today
- 11:56where I parked for a few years.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Of my earlier life.
- 12:00Speaker 9: Being the last speaker, I'm going to try to round
- 12:02it out and not keep us too long here, but
- 12:04I do want to take a moment to recognize and
- 12:07celebrate the successful launch of these new training pathways and
- 12:10expanded training pathways and voice our support of the Central
- 12:13Romote Career Center.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And school District on this endeavor on.
- 12:18Speaker 6: Behalf of the state of Vermont.
- 12:20Speaker 9: As we all know, workforese votages continue to challenge our
- 12:23state in all sectors. It doesn't matter if I'm speaking
- 12:26with manufacturers, those in it, the hospitality industry, healthcare, education,
- 12:32or the trades, the comments are the same, and creative
- 12:35partnerships like this one with education and industry and leaning
- 12:39it together are exactly.
- 12:41Speaker 2: What we need to meet those challenges head on.
- 12:44Speaker 12: The signing of the MLUS today is a powerful example
- 12:48of collaboration, Like some of the other super cub shared
- 12:51problem solving as well as a commitment to service, and
- 12:54that is what's going to help keeping this region of
- 12:57the state successful and succeed into The one thing that
- 13:02I've come to associate with the governor is the saying
- 13:05solve problems and help people, which seems fitting today given
- 13:09the spirit of service associated with.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Being an EMT or a paramedic.
- 13:14Speaker 9: Service is one of the most powerful ways that Vermonitors.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Can give back to their needs.
- 13:19Speaker 2: For those who choose ms, that service means answering the
- 13:22call in a moment of crisis.
- 13:24Speaker 9: Providing comfort and care, and quite literally saving lives.
- 13:28Speaker 2: And the best part is this canon is the structured
- 13:31career path.
- 13:32Speaker 9: More and more I hear from our eleven regional offices
- 13:36around this state in putting the one just up the hill,
- 13:38the McFarland Barry, the Farling Building and Barry that job
- 13:42seekers walking through their doors are midlife career changers, whether
- 13:46by choice or necessity. And having a suite of training
- 13:49programs like this that we connect that we can connect
- 13:52them to as a new career pathway option is imperative
- 13:55for us. Vermont's future depends on making sure no matter
- 13:58what stage of life you're.
- 13:59Speaker 2: At, and you have access to the.
- 14:01Speaker 9: Education and training that will lead to meaningful employment and experiences.
- 14:05And one of the few things that excites me about
- 14:07this effort today is that these programs are varied in
- 14:10their duration and delivery, with different participation options such as workshops, quarterly,
- 14:15hybrid modules, and more intensive trainings, which is going to
- 14:19create multiple on ramps and accessibility. I also want to
- 14:23mention the department is very interested in howth service like
- 14:25this can be leveraged more broadly as a workforce solution,
- 14:29as a recruitment strategy, and as a way of strengthening
- 14:32our communities. So we look forward to learning from this work,
- 14:35supporting its growth, and expanding.
- 14:37Speaker 6: The opportunities that it creates. Thank you, and I'll turn it.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Back over to the week.
- 14:48Speaker 7: And now I'll invite Matthew Parrish and Joseph Aldworth forward
- 14:52so that we can sign this document. Thank you, mother,
- 15:30An say
