- 0:00Speaker 1: One of the greats. We have a four time major winner,
- 0:03Speaker 1: someone that has turned the met Gala into the net Gala,
- 0:06Speaker 1: constantly coming out with new style, Naomi Osaka joining us
- 0:10Speaker 1: see on the set on GMT. You did it again.
- 0:14Speaker 1: The world is talking. Can we talk about the dress?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Can we talk about your game both? I'm sure you're
- 0:19Speaker 1: proud of both.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Sure, thank you. Yeah, I mean, it was definitely really
- 0:24Speaker 2: fun to walk out today, but it was also really warm.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Did you second guess yourself when you were walking out there,
- 0:32Speaker 3: saying maybe a little too much for today?
- 0:35Speaker 2: No, honestly no, I feel like this was less than Australia.
- 0:39Speaker 2: So once I got over the Australia, hope, I feel
- 0:42Speaker 2: like I can wear anything at this point.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Well, they say fashion is pain, so you powered through
- 0:47Speaker 1: and I think you put a wonderful performance on both fronts.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Thank you, you got it.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Are you worried when you've got an outfit like that?
- 0:54Speaker 1: I'm assuming it's a very nice outfit.
- 0:56Speaker 4: On a hardquart or grass court, it's not gonna get dirty.
- 0:58Speaker 2: But out here it's rubbing on the clay, right, Yeah
- 1:01Speaker 2: it is. But I like that aesthetic, Like, I think
- 1:04Speaker 2: it's cool that it's getting roughed up a little bit.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Oh hey, Noaomi, how are you good?
- 1:10Speaker 2: How are you going?
- 1:11Speaker 4: Great? Well done today? Incredible match, I think obviously, Adam said,
- 1:15Speaker 4: the world's kind of talking about the outfits. I'm curious
- 1:18Speaker 4: as to how you come up with these inspirations for
- 1:21Speaker 4: Australia was one thing. Here's another one. You've already spoken
- 1:24Speaker 4: pretty publicly that you have things playing kind of far
- 1:26Speaker 4: in advance for different tournaments. Where does that come from?
- 1:29Speaker 4: Do you draw from any sources? Did the met Gala
- 1:31Speaker 4: play any part? Or is this all just organic coming
- 1:33Speaker 4: from you and those close around you.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think I'm pretty fortunate. Nike kind
- 1:38Speaker 2: of lets me submit my sketches, so that's a really
- 1:41Speaker 2: fun process with them and shout out Nike for I
- 1:45Speaker 2: don't know, just sticking with me, But yeah, I think,
- 1:49Speaker 2: you know, like once you get to the bigger scale
- 1:51Speaker 2: and you start like collaborating with designers on top of
- 1:53Speaker 2: the Nike stuff, that's when it gets like into a
- 1:57Speaker 2: big conversation. But luckily, like everyone that I've collaborated with
- 2:02Speaker 2: so far are so kind and they invite me into
- 2:05Speaker 2: their process as well.
- 2:07Speaker 4: One follow up on that, how do they work with
- 2:10Speaker 4: the performance aspect of it, because obviously it can be
- 2:13Speaker 4: maybe someon would say easy to put together a very
- 2:16Speaker 4: bold and audacious outfit, but you've got to perform. You
- 2:20Speaker 4: got a match, you have to plane, you've got to
- 2:21Speaker 4: be able to go out there, slide on the left,
- 2:23Speaker 4: slide on the right. I'll see you sliding on the
- 2:24Speaker 4: play too. He looks pretty good. But like, so, how
- 2:27Speaker 4: does that collaboration work with a designer with Nike? Do
- 2:30Speaker 4: you have any say so and maybe modifying some of
- 2:32Speaker 4: the outfits to make it a little bit more breathable
- 2:34Speaker 4: or do you just kind of let them do their thing.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I mean on the last two definitely it's not as
- 2:42Speaker 2: like intricate like for example Australian Open and here I
- 2:46Speaker 2: just need to be able to snap the stuff off.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So that's the only like clause that I tell them about.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And then with Nike, they're the ones that care a
- 2:55Speaker 2: lot about the performance. I'm kind of the one that
- 2:57Speaker 2: says like, hey, guys, I just want it to look
- 3:00Speaker 2: really cool. So they kind of put a stop to
- 3:03Speaker 2: me at some moments.
- 3:05Speaker 5: And what about the actual tennis. You look amazing, Everything
- 3:09Speaker 5: is great, You're playing amazing. How do you feel like
- 3:11Speaker 5: you're playing.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's kind of tough to say. I feel
- 3:15Speaker 2: like first rounds and slams are always the most like
- 3:18Speaker 2: nerve racking. I think leading into this tournament, I played
- 3:21Speaker 2: a couple of really good matches, so I'm just trying
- 3:24Speaker 2: to keep the ball rolling.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Yeah, you have get momentum, obviously having a good result
- 3:28Speaker 5: in Madrid and then in Rome. Do you feel like
- 3:31Speaker 5: clay hasn't been your favorite surface? But do you feel
- 3:34Speaker 5: like you've made a lot of progress throughout the clay
- 3:36Speaker 5: season to get ready for here?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like I have. I think hopefully I've
- 3:41Speaker 2: understood my play game a little bit more. And I'm
- 3:44Speaker 2: also really curious to like see it or the things
- 3:47Speaker 2: that I've learned on the clay court to apply them
- 3:50Speaker 2: onto the other surfaces as well.
- 3:53Speaker 3: What are some of those things they only that you're
- 3:55Speaker 3: learned that are helping you become more of a complete
- 3:58Speaker 3: player that you can not just take advantage here at
- 4:00Speaker 3: Roland Garrels, but perhaps in a few weeks on the
- 4:03Speaker 3: grass at Woman Week.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, one of the biggest things that I've
- 4:07Speaker 2: learned is just to the well I don't know how
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's going to apply on grass, but I've been trying
- 4:12Speaker 2: to hit pretty heavy fourhands. I feel like they've been
- 4:15Speaker 2: working on this surface. I'm not sure how they'll work
- 4:18Speaker 2: on grass, but I guess I'll figure it out when
- 4:20Speaker 2: the time comes. And then honestly, just trying to be
- 4:24Speaker 2: really aggressive on my returns.
- 4:26Speaker 3: You had a lot of winners on your forehand today.
- 4:27Speaker 3: That was a big weapon. The other weapon is your serf.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Do you feel that your serf is the dominant shot,
- 4:34Speaker 3: the one that you rely on for everything else to.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Fall in the place, you know, Honestly, I had a
- 4:40Speaker 2: coach talk with my coach, and he told me not
- 4:42Speaker 2: to like think too much about my serf because I
- 4:45Speaker 2: feel like sometimes when I serve, I expect an ace
- 4:48Speaker 2: and then it kind of throws me off. So I'm
- 4:51Speaker 2: just trying to lean more into like like point building
- 4:56Speaker 2: and just like understanding that you know, there might be
- 5:00Speaker 2: return like every single point.
- 5:02Speaker 1: This is my second year covering tennis. I've been more
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the basketball world the football world, and I think
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's so interesting that you guys have these yearly pilgrimages
- 5:10Speaker 1: to these certain cities and every city, every moment kind
- 5:13Speaker 1: of leaves a lasting image. I'm curious, these trips to
- 5:17Speaker 1: Paris year after year, what has it helped teach you
- 5:19Speaker 1: about yourself coming to this city and this experience.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie. I mean, I think this year,
- 5:29Speaker 2: I haven't really done much. I just feel like what
- 5:33Speaker 2: I understand more about myself is that I want to
- 5:37Speaker 2: grow as a person. But I'm also like always watching
- 5:41Speaker 2: videos of my daughter. So I think what I've learned
- 5:43Speaker 2: is that I really miss my daughter right now, and
- 5:45Speaker 2: I hope that I can see her maybe in two
- 5:48Speaker 2: weeks or whenever this tournament ends.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I'm going to follow up on that. So my son
- 5:53Speaker 1: is two and a half. He was just running around.
- 5:55Speaker 1: How old is your daughter?
- 5:56Speaker 4: Now?
- 5:56Speaker 2: She's almost three?
- 5:57Speaker 1: So the change happens so rapidly, and you understand time
- 6:02Speaker 1: because you're seeing it through their eyes. What has she
- 6:04Speaker 1: taught you same kind of question through this process.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean she's taught me a lot of patience,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but also I feel like expression of love. A lot
- 6:16Speaker 2: of people tell me like, I'm very Chris, It says
- 6:19Speaker 2: told me, I'm like very Like my expressions don't really
- 6:23Speaker 2: change that much. But I think when I'm with her like,
- 6:26Speaker 2: she lights up my whole life and I just want
- 6:28Speaker 2: to hold her all the time. And she loves debating
- 6:32Speaker 2: with me. She's quite a talker already. So yeah. So
- 6:35Speaker 2: her name is Shy, but she's not shy at all,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and she'll go up to people and just start saying like.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Hi, how are you?
- 6:43Speaker 2: So yeah, just like learning more about myself through her.
- 6:47Speaker 3: That's beautiful.
- 6:47Speaker 1: You're teaching us stuff every day. You're showing us different
- 6:50Speaker 1: sides of you, and we appreciate that. Go enjoy time
- 6:53Speaker 1: with Shy. Thank you so much for your time, Naomio Saba.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Great to meet you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Naomi. We're gonna watch some tennis. You can hang out
- 7:01Speaker 1: if you like, but I'm sure you're a very busy person.
