- 4:15Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, good morning. How are
- 4:17you? I'm great? How are you? I'm doing find Travis Willard is
- 4:20my guest host today. Travis meet Hannah, Hannah. This is Travis.
- 4:24Good morning, Hannah, good morning. So did you hear me talking there
- 4:28Hannah about that about that kennel that they have there that's got the twenty four
- 4:31hour flat screen TVs for the dogs? Yea, do you have that for
- 4:36your dogs? Uh? Yeah, but they don't really And I say that
- 4:44because I'm always posting pictures of my cat. I have a cat that watches
- 4:46television. Grady is quite the television fan. He watches nature shows. Wednesday
- 4:53night at eight o'clock. I flip it over to PBS so he can watch
- 4:56Nature. Do you ever have a pet that watch TV? Hannah? Yes,
- 5:00so I have one dog. His name is Bentley, and he will
- 5:04sit there sometimes and just stare as a TV for like the longest period ever.
- 5:11Now that's good, that's good. That's good stuff. All right,
- 5:14Let's we got a lot to get to with you this morning, and I
- 5:16want to get right to it. One of those of things. Courses are
- 5:19dot me please, Pet of the Week. You can go over to Dave
- 5:21Allen Radio and Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter, and you can
- 5:26learn the story of Zarah. Tell us the story of Zarah. Hannah.
- 5:30So, she is a female. Um, she's six already, she is
- 5:36about three years old. She is micro chip already, she has her vaccinations.
- 5:44She is an all around a really good dog. She can be a
- 5:49resource carter, So that means that she can be resource carter over her toys,
- 5:56her food or something like that where she just doesn't want other dogs around
- 5:59us, or she may not want even people around it. But she it's
- 6:02not like bad, so it's just a mild little resource guarding. But she
- 6:09is bashful at first, but once she wants up to you, which is
- 6:13fairly quick. She is the sweetest dog ever. She wants to play.
- 6:17She does like other dogs, she just likes them to be like at a
- 6:23calmer state like her. She's not like super calm and super laid back,
- 6:28but she is calm in terms of she's just not super super hyperactive. But
- 6:33she still plays and stuff. But other than that, she is a really
- 6:39great dog. She would be great to take on hikes or walk in the
- 6:43park or if you have a yard, because she, like I said,
- 6:46she does like to play, so she likes still run a little bit,
- 6:48but she's not super hyperactive where she needs this huge hugs a big yard,
- 6:54you know. And I would think though with her being young as she is,
- 6:58Hannah, I mean, I mean three years old relative young. I
- 7:00guess of her dog, maybe if she got with the right family, maybe
- 7:01you could kind of get and get her in a better setting. She might
- 7:04not do the resource guarding things so much. Would you agree with that I
- 7:08do agree, and would be sounds like it'd be a great dog, as
- 7:12you said, for a family. Any idea what kind of dog she is?
- 7:16Um? I am not sure. She kind of looks like she has
- 7:21a little bit of like boxer in her or maybe a little bit of pity
- 7:26in her, but she she does have those boxer markings and a little bit
- 7:30of that squarish looking pitty box her head. So I would say, if
- 7:34I had to guess something mixed with that, I don't know what though.
- 7:40She's about like fifty ish pounds, so she's not large and she's not more
- 7:46sounds like what we always call it, just a West Virginia brown dog.
- 7:48Yeah, yeah, the classic West Virginia brown dog. Do we know how
- 7:53she is with with kids or cats? She said that she likes camber dogs.
- 7:56What about kids or cats? She does so him with kids? Of
- 8:00course. We always advise caution whenever you take a dog home, no matter
- 8:03if it's from the shelter or wherever you may get it, Um, you
- 8:07never want to leave them alone with your kids or other dogs unsupervised for a
- 8:11while. I always say that the three months mark is going to be a
- 8:16good determination on Like you know how they're going to be. However, you
- 8:20still want to always be cautious and make sure you know that you're teaching your
- 8:22kids as well to behavior around it. Yeah, I think, and that's
- 8:28a very good point. I think sometimes people will will look at a pet
- 8:33and say, Okay, we got to teach this dog or cat or whatever
- 8:35it is how to behave around the kids, but they don't take time to
- 8:39tell the kids how to behave around the pet. Exactly. Yeah, a
- 8:43lot of those problems could be prevented if the kids were a little bit more
- 8:46in control. Travis, you've got do you have animals? Don't you know?
- 8:48You have a dog? I do? Actually, um, well we've
- 8:52got one dog. Now I had to. I had a great Dane that
- 8:54we actually unfortunately had to put down last week. He's he had a good
- 8:58life almost ten years, so you know he lasted pretty long. But yeah,
- 9:01and now I've got little kids, and you're absolutely right. It's it's
- 9:03a team effort. It's a family a family affair to everybody's got to understand
- 9:09that even the pets themselves have their own unique personalities, right, So you
- 9:11got to your right handed. You have to integrate them into the home and
- 9:16give them time, give them time to adjust. Right. Do we know
- 9:18what her story is? I mean, was she a stray or do we
- 9:20have any idea where she came from? Yeah? She Um. I believe
- 9:24that she was found in cross lanes and she was just kind of running around
- 9:28and somebody brought her in. So she came in as a stray. Um.
- 9:33But she, like I said, she was kind of fearful when she
- 9:37came in. UM. What she you know every most dogs are not all,
- 9:41but most of them. Um. But she has opened up a lot.
- 9:46She's very, very good on the leash. She's she I mean she
- 9:48pulls just slightly, but that's just when she gets distracted by something. So
- 9:52she's a really really good dog. She just needs a really good home.
- 9:56She would be getting a family, she would be getting a like a couple
- 10:00home. She'd be a single dog. She'd be fine either way, really,
- 10:05just as long as she's got herself a good home. We're talking to
- 10:07Hannah Garden from Canal Trust you main association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet
- 10:11of the Week. Let's talk about what you had happened there over the last
- 10:13day or so. I was looking at your Facebook, Paichanda, and you
- 10:16had a whole lot of dogs that somehow ended up at the shelter. Yeah,
- 10:20so we did take in I believe it was maybe about thirty four or
- 10:26thirty five dogs. It was dogs and puppies. A lot of those were
- 10:33mama dogs that have babies that they're still nursing. So everybody don't get excited
- 10:41yet because puppies will not be available yet. There is a lot of them,
- 10:45but they are just still nursing on their mama, so it'll be like
- 10:50a month or two or so before they are available. So what was the
- 10:52situation there that you took in that many? I mean, are you at
- 10:56liberty to discuss it? I mean, what was I am not percent on
- 11:01the story. I do know that I believe it was from one area,
- 11:07But other than that, the story is still kind of you. We're still
- 11:11trying to figure it out. And there's pictures posted on your gas Facebook page,
- 11:15so we urge people to go over and and take a look at that.
- 11:18Now, Tomorrow night's your big event. We've talked about it for several
- 11:20months. Tucks and Tales, Texas and Tales at the Capitol Market's going to
- 11:24be a great night to night, Hannah, Tomorrow night, I should say

- 11:58would be like good, like Pastel four stuff like that. So grabble on
- 12:03your outfits and come on out and have fun. It's gonna be losting lots
- 12:07of fun. So to the Capital Market. And unfortunately I have a prior
- 12:11commitment. I'm not going to be able to be there to morn night.
- 12:13I was hoping I could, but I will not be there tomorrow night.
- 12:16But I'll anticipate next week when we have on You'll have a lot of great
- 12:18tails. So the Travis from Tuxs and Tails. So all right, before
- 12:22we let you go, you get your empty The shelter event going on now
- 12:26twenty five dollars adoption fee for all adult dogs, cats and kittens. Quickly
- 12:31talk about that. Yeah, so MC the shelter is where Bistles sponsors.

- 12:41it is twenty five dollars adoption fee, so they're sponsoring all but you just

- 13:26week and telling us about all the good stuff going on at the shelter.
- 13:28Zarah is the dog this week. Travis. Zarah's posted on Dave on on
- 13:33Radio, on Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter. Three years old
- 13:37prefers calmber dog. She was taken in as a stray from the Cross Lanes
- 13:41area. She does have an issue with guarding her food, as do you.
- 13:45Absolutely yeah, but that can probably be worked out. It's probably be
- 13:48working well. I've been working on it too, so you know. It's
- 13:50a very energetic dog, walks well on the leash, can be a little
- 13:54bit bashful, but she's fixed and she is ready to go home again.
- 13:58They're empty. The shelter event going on through the fourteenth, twenty five dollars

- 17:34am I You know, I was just thinking at your age, Dave.
- 17:37You know QC Canetics, you probably keep them in business. I did,
- 17:40Yeah, okay, I do thinks and this will be your last time.
- 17:42Then that goes well. First of all, let's go to somebody who actually
- 17:45likes me, and that's Joe Stevens from the Nitro CVB. How are you,
- 17:49Joe, Well, the jury is still add on that at last comment,
- 17:53but we'll move forward. All right, all right, you got a
- 17:56big event that you are going to be kicking off the Sea News because it's
- 18:00cruising season and Nitro talk about it. Yeah, exactly. The Nitro Antique
- 18:06Car Club will could be conducting its first cruise in of the season. They
- 18:11have won every first Friday in May, June, July, and August,
- 18:15and then in September as part of Nitro's Boomtown Day that will have their annual
- 18:19show. Everything kicks off tonight about five o'clock. We close down Second Avenue,
- 18:25which is right there by City Hall and Living Memorial Park. Will close
- 18:29down Second Avenue from nineteenth Street to twenty first. Cars from all over the
- 18:34region will be coming in and Dave near and dear to your heart. We're
- 18:38giving away three hot dogs tonight, three hot dogs. You can't go wrong.
- 18:42Travis is a hot dog gat too, so I can tell that you
- 18:45would like the free hot dogs as well. Right, you're all about the
- 18:48hot Oh absolutely yeah, Classic cars and hot dogs you can't get wrong.
- 18:51And here's the thing I like about this whole thing, Joe, is that
- 18:52this is, as you said, it's not just a one off. I
- 18:56mean, you folks do this each Friday, and you do that May,
- 19:00which is now through August, which leads into that big car show in September.
- 19:03So if for some reason you can't make this evening, although I don't
- 19:06know what that reason would be, because the weather for a cruise in is
- 19:08absolutely fantastic. Joe, it's gonna be really nice tonight, probably temperatures upper
- 19:15fifties, mid sixties or so, partly clanity skies. It's just going to
- 19:18be a fun time. Last year we had some challenges with mother nature and
- 19:22we only actually got in one of the cruise ins because of inclement weather.
- 19:26And moving forward this season again, the all the cruise ins are the first
- 19:30Friday of May, June, July, and Augusta, and then the big
- 19:34show in September or in September to night Boomtown Day. But if mother nature
- 19:41decides to rain us out one Friday, we're going to do it the next
- 19:44Friday. So everything kicks off tonight about five o'clock on Second Avenue. Free
- 19:48hot dogs, chips and drinks for everybody showing up. You don't have to
- 19:52be just a member with a car that you're showing off for something. Just
- 19:56bring your old glope in or maybe we'll just park Dave Allen out on the
- 20:00curb and let people see the real antique of the radio industry here in the
- 20:06area. But nonetheless, free hot dogs, everybody in a good time going
- 20:10to be had by all. And I stand corrected on that. I stood
- 20:11it was every Friday. It's actually the first Friday of the month, and
- 20:14it leads up into the big event that you happened that happens in September.
- 20:18And what always fascinates me, Joe, and I know you got to go,
- 20:22so I'll let you go. But one of the things that fascinates me
- 20:25about about cruise ins and things of that nature is when I was a kid,
- 20:29you know the big cars, Everybody's oh, it's a fifty seven Chevy
- 20:32because I'm the Happy Days generation, you know, the fifty seven Chevy.
- 20:34Now you look at some of the cars that are on these cruise ends and
- 20:38antique, Joe is what twenty five thirty years ago exactly. So you'll see
- 20:44some of those vehicles that are out here that we're Davey, you and I
- 20:48were driving in the seventies and eighties, and now they're antique cars and they're
- 20:52powis up and looking pretty good and going to be a lot of fun.
- 20:55I want to toss in something real quick, Dave, just mark your calendar
- 20:57from May twenty seven. That is the grand opening for the new Nitro Athletic
- 21:03Complex. A lot of things we'll be talking about that as we get a
- 21:06little closer to that. But May twenty seventh, the new Nitro Pool,
- 21:08the newest pool in the region, will be opening up. But tonight cruise
- 21:14in starting at five o'clock right on Second Avenue in Nitro. All right,
- 21:17good stuff, Joe, We will talk soon. Thanks a lot. You'd
- 21:19be safe out there, man, all right, thank you, Joe Stevens.
- 21:22A lot of ironic that Joe was giving me crap about my age.
- 21:26You know, you know, if you know, Joe's a good friend of
- 21:30mine, even you know, he's a he cheers for the wrong sports team
- 21:33sometime, especially in baseball, but he's an Orioles fan. But that's I
- 21:37think it's part of the world or something. But again, it happens the
- 21:40first Friday of every month, including nine Nitro, and you couldn't ask for
- 21:45better weather. But Travis, you're younger than I am. Uh So,
- 21:48does it make you feel weird to think that, Okay, antique is from
- 21:53the nineties, from the nineties, But it is, it really is.
- 21:57And because you're you're When I was growing up, it was you know,
- 22:00the the seventies muscle cars right where they all antiques, And now it's you
- 22:06know, you can have a ninety five caprice that people are showing off.
- 22:10But it's you know, times change, right exactly adapt I guess and uh
- 22:15and uh, and you get into um into into what is old? What
- 22:19is retro? I mean retro? And we talked about this on the show
- 22:22before, Travis retro technically now is the early two thousands? Wow? How
- 22:29does that make you feel? Wow? I mean, yeah, it's the
- 22:30early two thousands? Is retro right now? Yeah? That's that's insane.
- 22:36Yeah, you weren't ready for that? Worried? All right? Travis Willard
- 22:40from Edward Jones is our special Friday guest hosted. We'll do ten questions with
- 22:44Travis coming up a little bit later on. We'ren talked to some folks from
- 22:45the city of Hurricane about their main streat spring event happening just momentarily. But
- 22:49I do need to get this and somebody texted this into us. Uh,
- 22:52going back to the Canal Trust You Maine association that they are. This was
- 22:56a posted it on their Facebook page and I appreciate the texture for sending this
- 23:00in because I forgot to mention this. They are completely out of puppy formula
- 23:04up there. So if you're able to donate some puppy formula they could use
- 23:07it. Just drop it off twelve forty eight Greenbrow Street. That's where the
- 23:11shelter is. So I appreciate the texture for bringing that in. Also,
- 23:14they are in need of Purina dog chow. They have two hundred according to
- 23:18their latest Facebook post, two hundred and twenty one dogs and they just picked
- 23:22up thirty four, you know, as Hannah said yesterday, So if you
- 23:26can make any kind of donation at all, please, uh, I mean
- 23:29they're asking for blankets. They also need some soft blankets as well for the
- 23:33for the for the animals up there. So well, you know, just
- 23:36how stupid I am. I didn't even realize puppy formula was a thing.
- 23:38Yeah it is, I mean that's yeah, it is. So they can
- 23:41use all this. Suchess contact folks at the Canal Charles Ma main association for
- 23:45more in that five EY Live is brought to pired by Generations Physical Therapy seven
- 23:48convenient locations along I sixty four and they're hiring for what licenses and technically train
- 23:53staff. For more information, visit generations pt dot com. Talked about the
- 23:56big event in Nitro, A big, big event going on tomorrow in my
- 24:00hometown, Hurricane, West Virginia. Let's go to the folks from the city
- 24:04Hurricane. Who we got this morning? Hey, it's Mayor Scott Edwards,
- 24:07and I've got a Manda Raven here with me. She's our assistant, the
- 24:11same major and she helps coordinate all of our events. And Tomorrow's will be
- 24:12one heck of a day in Hurricane it is, indeed. And guys,
- 24:15I got Travis Willard, who's our guest host today? Tell us what's going
- 24:18on in Hurricane tomorrow Gas. Well, you know, tomorrow is our Main
- 24:22Street Springs Festival. Tomorrow Main Street from one to five pm. Weather looks
- 24:27awesome. It's like eighty degrees and slight breeze, so it should be perfect.
- 24:33We have all kinds of stuff. It's a carnival themed day everything.
- 24:37It's a free event for everybody. Some old fashioned carnival games. A man,
- 24:41how many crafts will we have? How many vendors we have around forty
- 24:45vendors actually crafts, artisans, some informational vendors. Lots of great folks coming
- 24:49out tomorrow and this is all We're going to be on Main Street right downtown
- 24:52Hurricane. Yes, all on Main Street. We have free you know,
- 24:56inflatables for the kids, giving away free popcorn, hot and candy. You
- 25:00can come by. I want you to come by and get your face painted.
- 25:03That's all free. And perhaps we have a live reptile shows from from
- 25:07the West Virginia Reptile House. Now that's a new edition this year, and
- 25:11that's at two o'clock and four o'clock on the stage, so it's going to
- 25:15be good. And then the Foam Garage will be there spraying foam on kids
- 25:18and adults alike. So you can come on down for that. And I
- 25:22actually had Andy McKeon from the Reptile Group. I think it's the same gentleman
- 25:26on the show last week. And Andy actually brought his bowl of Constructor in
- 25:32studio with us last week. Maybe the first time we've ever had a bowl
- 25:34of Constructor here in the Parmark store. So do you I don't know,
- 25:37possibly not, but I got I got the snake all wrapped around me and
- 25:41stuff and Hollywoodjeff Patty, my producer, was really upset he missed that day
- 25:45because yeah, that was good stuff. And I know a lot of work
- 25:48guys goes into this sort of thing. I mean, when do you.
- 25:51I mean, and you do several events like this in Hurricane every every year
- 25:53of because you have the thing in the summer in the fall, but this
- 25:56is the one that really kind of kicks it off. And let's everybody know,
- 25:59hey, springtime and summers here, warm weathers here. This really takes
- 26:03a lot of volunteers and sponsors, guys coming together to make these things happen.
- 26:07Yeah, well, Amanda and her team with the city, they do
- 26:10a wonderful job putting everything together. But we couldn't do it without the sponsors.
- 26:14So Aaron McAllister with Electronic Services are presenting sponsors. And then we've got
- 26:18you know, Tom Moore, Hoger in real Estate, Better Homes and Guards,
- 26:22Dancy unlim At h and R Blocks, the AMC Pays, Valley Convenient
- 26:26Care about Family Care. There are events sponsors, and then you know,
- 26:30I'll just say three and more. We've got annual sponsors to help us with
- 26:32every event. Putnam County Bank, Martin's, Peterbilt, and ODEBT War was
- 26:36a donny. You take all those sponsors, add together all the money they
- 26:40give so that all these events can be free for the kids and families in
- 26:44our community and I want to thank that. Yeah, I mean, you
- 26:45can't do it without without these folks. And I've learned this living in the
- 26:49Canal Valley now for nine years. Whether it's where you are, or whether
- 26:52it's here in Charleston, South Charleston, Dunbar, or whatever the case is,
- 26:56people really come together, the business community and other groups come together when
- 27:00you have events like this and the weather. You know, I was.
- 27:02I was at a ribbon cutting with you guys have a new business in Hurricane
- 27:04a couple of days ago, and I accidentally mayor to a man that I
- 27:08said, yeah, I think there's a slight chance of rain on Saturday.
- 27:11And she stopped me. And she stopped me. She goes, no,
- 27:14there's not there's no chance of rain on Saturday. And I guess I just
- 27:18must have I must have misunderstood or something. But after after after she got
- 27:22up in my business about about me saying there was going to be raining.
- 27:26I'm sensitive now, I can imagine. I can imagine. But the weather
- 27:30for tomorrow look's absolutely picture perfect, a perfect spring day for this event.
- 27:34And there is literally, to use the cliche, g ass something for the
- 27:37entire family there. Yeah, but I will tell you one other thing I
- 27:40left out. There's gona be We'll have four food trucks as well, so
- 27:42come fill your fill your bellies up tomorrow, four foods. Right now.
- 27:45What time does everything get started again? One o'clock to five o'clock Main Street
- 27:51and Hurricane. We'll shu up the road down about ten o'clock. But it's
- 27:53gonna be a wonderful event. Bring the whole family out, kids, a
- 27:56dog, everybody. I just want to see you in the phone, all
- 28:02right. I'll do my best to try to try to be there tomorrow.
- 28:06Hey, guys, I appreciate it. Uh. And I guess you got
- 28:07information posts on your Facebook page right, yeah, absolutely, the city Facebook
- 28:12page. Everything is there. All right, guys, we'll talk soon.
- 28:15Thanks a lot, Thank you. It's Mayor Scott Edwards, the mayor of
- 28:18the city of Hurricane, and also Amanda Ramy who's their marketing director. And
- 28:22I also have a poster posted on the day Allen Radio on Facebook so people
- 28:26can go check it out. Lots to do today tomorrow. I know there's
- 28:30a different runs and walks going on around Charleston. There's no excuse for people
- 28:34to say I got nothing to do tomorrow. Yeah, which is great.
- 28:37It's great when they have that many events around the people can get out of
- 28:40the house. Yeah, exactly right. Our phone cost here, our phone

- 32:44Travis Willard is with us? So who is with Edward Joseph Tay's Valley's
- 32:47my guest HOSTA. We're getting to know Travis a little bit better here in
- 32:51a couple although I don't know that we really want to, tech, says
- 32:54Dave. Let's be honest, with all the political guests you've had on the
- 32:57show, A Boa Constrictor is certain enough the only snake you've ever had in
- 33:00the studio. Wow, shots have been fired, and I got plenty more
- 33:06of the nut snakes, But I've got plenty plenty more of political people coming
- 33:09up. I don't have the tire scale in front of me, but I
- 33:13do know. On Monday, I'm going to have Chris Rose, who is
- 33:16a candidate for Senate. And everybody keeps talking about, you know, what's
- 33:21going to happen, And now that we know that Governor Justice is in and
- 33:23we know that Alex Mooney's in. Those two are going to fare face off
- 33:27in the primary. There's another Republican candidate in there. And I was listening
- 33:30to Dave Wilson on talk line and yesterday in the second hour, and Dave
- 33:37was kind of doing this thing where he just opened up the phones and said,
- 33:39who are you supporting Mansion or Mooney? And there were a whole lot
- 33:43of calls and tax for people saying there's another guy in there and it's Chris
- 33:45Rose. And a lot of people don't give Chris Rose an opportunity to even
- 33:51have a chance in this race because of the money. But I'll tell you,
- 33:52nobody told Chris Rose that, because I talked to him yesterday on the
- 33:55phone setting up this interview which is going to be on Monday day. So
- 34:00nobody told Chris Rose he doesn't have a chance. So well, you know,
- 34:05you gotta admire the fight, right, Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 34:07So he's going to join us on the show then on Tuesday's show. In
- 34:13addition to actually that's Monday, Chris Rose gonna be on Tuesday's show. We
- 34:16have there's a gentleman by the name m ken Reid, who is hoping to
- 34:19be the next Secretary of State. He's going to join us on the show.
- 34:22Also Ryan Weld, who is a candidate for attorney general. We had
- 34:25a we had Mike Stewart on the show yesterday. Mike Stewart, current state
- 34:29senator who was running for attorney General. Ryan Weld heard the show Mike Stewart
- 34:34yesterday and his folks contact me and said, we'd like to come on on
- 34:37Tuesday to refute some of the comments that were made by Mike Stewarts. So,
- 34:40you know, it's just one of those things, man, you just
- 34:43sit back and let them roll. We'll just put them all in there.
- 34:45I guess that's all you can do. And also, because we like to
- 34:49have a little Pushkin in our lives every now and then, the State Democratic
- 34:52Party Chair and delicate Mike Pushkin is going to be in the on the show
- 34:55on Wednesday next week, I think. So we're loaded up, but we
- 34:58got you here today. Travis Welder from Edward Jones Financial. He's my special
- 35:01co host date. So far, we haven't killed anything, Travis, so
- 35:04I think that's a good thing, right. Yeah. Yeah, We're off
- 35:07to a good start so, and I'm I'm the last I'm the furthest thing
- 35:10from a politician, So texture can rest assured. Yeah, we're not gonna
- 35:14get political today. You might be a snake, but you're not a political
- 35:16snake. Absolutely, give us a bio, Travis Swiller. Now, originally
- 35:21you're a Point Pleasant guy. And I don't know whether you you know this
- 35:24not. I actually have ties to the point as that. You know,
- 35:28if you're front me, you call it point you drop the pleasant point.
- 35:31My first full time radio gig after college was working in Gallipolice, Ohio,
- 35:38just right across the river, and it actually lived though in Point Pleasant.
- 35:43That was the first place my wife and I lived after we got married.
- 35:45Rest Point Pleasant, Yeah, Ohio Street a Point Pleasant next to the Central
- 35:52I think I think was Central Grade School at the time, and I think
- 35:53it's the Board's office now in Mason County. I think I know it was
- 35:58the board office there for it was, but I think the board office moved
- 36:00to the old Moose Lodge. You gotta love Mason County, got you gotta
- 36:06love. You can't make it up. Tell us about Travisca's a little bio
- 36:09on Travis. Yeah, so Uh. Started out in Putnam County when I
- 36:15was you know, before school age, and then did all my school in
- 36:17point plus all your schooling, all my schooling. UM. Joined the military
- 36:22when I was a junior in high school. Joined the Western Army National Guard.
- 36:25Thank you for your service. Bad happy to do it, honestly,
- 36:29joined on a whim. UH just figured out had nothing going on in the
- 36:32summer. And that was twenty three years ago and I'm still still serving to
- 36:36the National Guard. Did about twelve years on active duty. UH. And
- 36:39then UH was looking for a career change. I graduated from UC through their
- 36:44NBA program. I was really looking for a way to give back to people.
- 36:49UM. Really enjoy helping people. UH, and I don't. I
- 36:52don't follow order as well. So I know I've met your wife and she
- 36:58tells me the same thing, you don't follow, Yeah exactly. UM.
- 37:00So you know, I wanted something where I could help people get back and
- 37:04you know, the finance thing is is right in my wheelhouse and UM,
- 37:07you know through my background, so that that kind of led me to where
- 37:10I am now. So I'm gonna talk about financial planning and we don't get
- 37:15into anything too deep on Fridays unless we absolutely have to. Uh, But
- 37:19I want to talk about some of the things that you have experienced in your
- 37:22business, some of the maybe some of the bigger mistakes that people make,
- 37:28or some of the things that people do. Right. I mean, somebody
- 37:31comes to you, what's an average average appointment? If somebody calls you up,
- 37:36And by the way, I'll get the phone number out there. You
- 37:37know, since he has a sponsored the show, I figure I could probably
- 37:39do that. Uh So, somebody calls you up, says I gotta get
- 37:43I gotta get this. I gotta get my financial house in order. I've
- 37:45got to start getting it ready. Exactly what what do you do for him?
- 37:51Well? I think the majority of the time, most people are they
- 37:58think they should know more than what they do, and oftentimes believe or not.
- 38:01They they kind of feel embarrassed and everybody feels behind the ball. I
- 38:06don't care if you've got twenty million dollars or twenty dollars, everybody's going to
- 38:10feel behind the ball. They always feel like they can improve somewhere, and
- 38:14that's typically the case. So most of the time, though, with what
- 38:16I do, it's really about finding out what's important to the person, what's
- 38:22really motivating them, what their goals are, and then we use a very
- 38:25defined process on how to get them to that goal, and then we partner
- 38:30together throughout their life and you know, to make sure they stay on track.
- 38:35And now, there is no such thing as a one size fits all.
- 38:37So if somebody wants to hit the Google machine and say I need money
- 38:40for retirement, that it doesn't work that way. Well yeah, and I
- 38:45get that question all the time, right, like what's the magic number?
- 38:47How much? How much do I need to retire? And you're right,
- 38:51it is not cookie cutter. It is not one size fits all everything.
- 38:55I mean, you can get a generic solution, right. That's you know,
- 38:59it's never a bad idea to put some money back, right, but
- 39:02there's it's kind of a good, better, best situation. And realistically,
- 39:07when you stretch the timeline out, um, you know what could be a
- 39:10good decision now, if you stress that out over the next twenty years,
- 39:15it can make a big difference if you would have just tweaked it just just
- 39:19slightly. But that's hard to see, right, It's hard to see when
- 39:22you're when you're in the thick of things, right exactly, we're talking to
- 39:24Travis Willard this morning. Um, you know, and as I said before,
- 39:29we try to not do serious things on Friday. And I know you
- 39:30can't give specific advice on stocks. I don't want to. Would want you
- 39:35to do that and lose your license right here in live radio. That would
- 39:37not be good. Let's not. But if you did have one piece of
- 39:38general advice to let's say a young person just started out, or someone like
- 39:44me who is now looking down the road at retire but not anytime soon,
- 39:47don't get excited listeners. But I mean, at some point, and I'm
- 39:51thinking about it, at some point I can at least see that what would
- 39:54those pieces of advice be a young person and a person that's well number one,
- 40:00At my age of fifty two, we should have already started planning for
- 40:01this, which I have. But well believe or not, most Americans wake
- 40:05up when they're fifty and they say, holy cow, this is getting close.
- 40:07I gotta put something together. Right, Half of Americans under the age
- 40:12of fifty don't have anything safe for retirement. Honestly, that's incredible. It's
- 40:15it's it's horrifying, but it's it's still true. Um, the best advice
- 40:22I could give. And obviously this is going to sound sound like a little
- 40:24bit of a plug. But reach out to somebody. Find find a financial
- 40:30advisor, a financial planner, somebody that you trust, um, and or
- 40:36somebody that you can get to trust. That's the biggest Not your brother in
- 40:38law. Well yeah, that's your brother in law's a financial planner. Yeah,
- 40:43yeah, you're exactly. My brother in law's not a financial planner.
- 40:45Well yeah, then don't listen it well and that and that's the thing.
- 40:47There's always an armchair quarterback, right, Um. And I tell people all
- 40:51the time, obviously I understand this stuff. But if I didn't do this
- 40:53for a living, if I didn't do this all the time and live and
- 40:58eat and sleep and breathe it, I would and try to do it on
- 41:00my own. Because the world it changes so quickly and the margin of error
- 41:06is so tight that it's really important just to find somebody. And it's not
- 41:10that it's not that anybody's trying to sell you something. It's you're finding a
- 41:15partner that can help guide you on this path. And whether or not that's
- 41:19me or somebody else, you know, you really got to be able to
- 41:22have that relationship with them, and I tell people all the time. Actually
- 41:24when I meet with new people. You know, in my practice, I
- 41:28don't set dollar amount minimums for my clients, but I set personality minimums.
- 41:32And I know that sounds crazy, but it's it's my world too, right.
- 41:37I enjoy what I do. I'm passionate about it. I want to
- 41:39be able to work with the people. And we have to be able to
- 41:43have that solid relationship. That's what's the most important thing. And then that
- 41:47way we can work together more comfortably and you know, keep you on track
- 41:52to meet your goals. What kind And I know you haven't been doing this,
- 41:54you know, your entire life, You've had a life outside this book
- 41:58to what kind of changes have you seen in financial planning, Let's say in
- 42:04in the time that you've been doing is do you see trends like you do
- 42:07when some other businesses win. Okay, now this is the hot thing.
- 42:08Now this is the hot thing or not? Yeah, there, I mean
- 42:12there's always when you're talking about investments themselves, there's always trends and things like
- 42:17that. Realistically, though, the entire industry is has been going through this
- 42:22shift, probably over the last eight or nine years, ten years when you
- 42:27said going through this shift. I almost lost it there because I thought you
- 42:30were going to say something else. But it sounds like a shift. But
- 42:32that's just because I know you off are But go ahead. Yeah, a
- 42:36brief moment of a heart attack there, but go ahead, go ahead.
- 42:38It's all good, Jeff, calm down. The industry is transitioning. Good
- 42:44day. There you go. Well, it's it's really it's it used to
- 42:47be about access, right before the Internet, before all the apps and everything.
- 42:52It used to be about you needed an advisor to have access to the
- 42:54market. Now you can have access online. So the industry is really more
- 43:00on that personal approach, really more on that planning piece, really more on
- 43:04that um that that trajectory and keeping you on track with your playing and partnering
- 43:09together. And it's less about it's less about access. Okay. And what
- 43:15another one of my friends, who is a financial planner has always said,
- 43:19you know, don't panic when it comes to these things. Don't panic.
- 43:22Yeah, yeah, if you if you see so, if you see a
- 43:23news headline, don't panic, well yeah, most of what you hear the
- 43:28news is garbage. I mean, well, I mean we're realistically speaking.
- 43:34When you think about it, like the the news. They need ratings,
- 43:37right, so if they tell you all is right with the world, yeah,
- 43:39you're not going to tune in. So they're rating you know, they're
- 43:42not going to have the ratings there, so um, you know it's really
- 43:46you know, as far as especially with the financial stuff, they like to
- 43:49get people excited. But again, rely on a professional. You know that
- 43:52it's the old adage that what is the attorney that represents himself as a full
- 43:55for a client? Yeah right, same same thing when it comes to money.
- 44:00Gotta and again this is not just a plug for Travis, any any
- 44:04financial planner that that that you feel comfortable with. Yeah, and that's the
- 44:07big thing. I want people to get some advice from a professional, whether
- 44:13or not that's me somebody else. But if it does, is you.
- 44:16But if it isn't, a great Travis has the new office and just right
- 44:21off the Tay's Valley exit of you are coming from Charleston, just get it's

- 44:31putting in there. Yeah, Yeah, definitely labor a love it took a
- 44:34long time to run. And when you say labor, you mean you were
- 44:37out there actually laboring yourself. You did a lot of the work yourself on
- 44:38your building. Yeah, I did. I did some yet or about ninety
- 44:43nine percent of it. Uh. And you can call him up at three

- 47:19Are you ready Travis to play ten questions? Yeah? Bring it on,
- 47:22Dave. These are ten questions that have come out of my feeble mind.
- 47:25You don't know what the questions are, the totally at random. I've
- 47:29just put them together literally right before the show. Apple answered them rapid fire,
- 47:32not too much thinking. Okay, and don't get me fired. All
- 47:37right? Are you ready? Sure? One up? All right? When
- 47:39eating chicken? What is the best part to eat? Uh? The wing?
- 47:45All right, that's a horrible first for first name only. You're headed
- 47:52to jail. Who's probably with you? Oh, Adam? Okay. Most
- 47:59beautiful place you've ever visited, and please don't say the Palmar store studio.
- 48:02Well other than that, probably Italy okay. The one celebrity that you would
- 48:09most like to meet? Ooh, can we pass? We'll come back to
- 48:19it. Favorite dessert cheesecake, all right? The one movie you could probably
- 48:25quote every line from. Oh wow, there's a lot. We'll come with
- 48:35elf. Elf Okay. I know this for a fact because I know you.
- 48:39You are a very musical person. If you are a musical instrument,
- 48:45what musical instrument would you be? Oh, that's a very good question.
- 48:52Probably a piano. Any reason why? I think, just the range,
- 48:58just the range. It it can be. It could be Taylor to,
- 49:00you know, fit a lot of different genres. Okay, another celebrity question,
- 49:05and we'll go back to the previous celebrity question. The one celebrity or
- 49:07public figure you absolutely cannot stand and please don't say Dave Allen. Oh,
- 49:13okay again, other than Dave Allen. Um, you know what, I'm
- 49:17gonna go with the Kardashians as a whole. Okay, because I don't I
- 49:22don't get it. Okay, all right, all right, clowns, yeah
- 49:25your name? Okay, all right, Um, it's Thanksgiving. What is
- 49:31the one food you cannot say no to? Oh, mashed potatoes? All
- 49:36right. The irishman in me is like, yeah, I can't. You
- 49:39can't say mash potatoes. Okay, all right, let's go back to the
- 49:43other one. The one celebrity you'd most like to meet? Um man,
- 49:49that's that is a really you know, honestly, I'll go Joe Rogan,
- 49:53Really Joe Rogan, Yeah, oddly enough. Um yeah, he's just kind
- 49:57of an eclectic guy, and you know, I think he he's got an
- 50:01open mind. So okay, all right, and we have the same barber,
- 50:05so yeah, I could. I can see that. And uh,
- 50:07you know the first time I became aware of Joe Rogan was when he hosted
- 50:09the second incarnation of The Man Show. The Man Show was, you know,
- 50:14the the show that actually launched before he got all well, I'm not
- 50:16gonna get him politics, but before he became what he is. The Man
- 50:21Show is what launched the career of Jimmy Kimmel, you know, The Man
- 50:22Show on Comedy Central with Jimmy kim on Adam Carolla. The second incarnation,
- 50:28when they both left to go on to do other things, was Joe Rogan
- 50:30and again named Doug Stanhope. And but that's where that's what really launched the
- 50:35career of Joe Rogan was The Man Show. Yeah he's been yeah, he's
- 50:37kind of been in the wings there, like you know, News Radio years
- 50:40ago and then The Man Show and Fear Factor. And one of the greatest
- 50:45lines Joe Rogan ever had on the Show News Radio was when he was the
- 50:50engineer on the show. And having been in radio as long as I have,
- 50:52this is pretty true of engineers. He brought a piece of equipment and
- 50:55and he said, you see this, I'm the only one that knows what
- 50:59it is, is what it does, and how to put it back that's
- 51:01power, and that's true of any it person I think all around. Oh
- 51:07yeah, yeah, absolutely well you were able to ace ten questions here this
- 51:09morning, so so you did fine. You passed the audition gold star like
- 51:13gold star, uh texts. As soon as I heard him say the sight
- 51:16sound, I kind of freaked out. Two. So we're gonna have to
- 51:22probably that's a promo there, Jeff. Anytime anybody says something interesting on the
- 51:24program, we say promo, and that way we could put it out there.
- 51:29Oh Tex, says Joe Rocan. Also was on the Brookshield's comedy Suddenly
- 51:32Susan, Wow, that's I did not know. I remember the show.
- 51:37I vaguely remember that. I do know, Suddenly, Salad, that's a.
- 51:40That's a that's what. Yes, Travis Weiller, Man, I appreciate
- 51:45you being here. It's been fine. Man. Give us your contact information
- 51:47if anybody wants to look you up. Hi everybody, Uh three Z four
- 51:52three nine seven five five three is the phone number UM Edward Jones dot com.
