- 0:00Speaker 1: By Hi everyone, HiPE your greats, Welcome to another installment
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the show. Today is today's almost like a little
- 0:08Speaker 1: mini workshop, very practical. It may or may not be
- 0:12Speaker 1: of interest to you. Some of you are on the
- 0:17Speaker 1: journey and doing great, and you probably listen more for
- 0:21Speaker 1: a bit of entertainment and stimulation. Some of you are
- 0:24Speaker 1: really on the personal development, professional development, be all, be
- 0:30Speaker 1: all you can be journey. And part of that is
- 0:34Speaker 1: of course being able to have a structure and process,
- 0:37Speaker 1: set goals, be analytical and strategic to an extent about
- 0:43Speaker 1: what is working in our life, what is not working
- 0:46Speaker 1: in our life, and at times turning down the emotion,
- 0:50Speaker 1: turning up the logic so that we can consciously and
- 0:55Speaker 1: intentionally create a future plan plan for what we want
- 1:01Speaker 1: to do be create change and become moving forward from
- 1:06Speaker 1: now and my so what I'm sharing with you today
- 1:09Speaker 1: just my really fundamental thoughts around creating change in a
- 1:15Speaker 1: strategic way, a way that is more conscious, process driven, logical,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and intentional. And we are while we all think we
- 1:25Speaker 1: are that, my experience anyway is that we are not
- 1:30Speaker 1: so much that we are more emotional and reactive than
- 1:35Speaker 1: we are, you know, living out or trying to consciously,
- 1:39Speaker 1: day to day, week to week, year to year, execute
- 1:41Speaker 1: some plan that we've created to build the situation, circumstance, environment, life, lifestyle, habits,
- 1:49Speaker 1: body that we want to live in the middle of.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And so while we want to have room for fun
- 1:55Speaker 1: and spontaneity and intuition and distinctiveness, of course we want
- 2:01Speaker 1: to have that. We don't want to lose that. But
- 2:05Speaker 1: how many of you, if we're really honest, how many
- 2:08Speaker 1: of us, if we're really honest, have woken up one
- 2:12Speaker 1: day metaphorically and it's five years or three years later,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and we're still doing the shit that we said we
- 2:18Speaker 1: wouldn't do three or five years ago. We're still having
- 2:21Speaker 1: the same dumb conversations about the shit that we're not changing.
- 2:24Speaker 1: We're still living in a version of groundhog Day. We're
- 2:27Speaker 1: still making decisions which aren't optimal for us. We're doing
- 2:31Speaker 1: things which aren't optimal for us. We are self sabotaging,
- 2:35Speaker 1: we're overthinking, we're underdoing. And some of you have listened
- 2:40Speaker 1: to hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of these episodes, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: remember all of this is self awareness, not self loathing.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But I'm sure that some of you have made decisions
- 2:50Speaker 1: and been inspired and got a bit in the zone,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and then sometime later got out of the zone, got
- 2:55Speaker 1: uninspired and stopped doing the thing that you started that
- 2:59Speaker 1: does make you bad, weak, flawed or broken, that makes
- 3:02Speaker 1: you normal and human, just like me, I've done exactly that,
- 3:06Speaker 1: And I guess for me, it wasn't.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Until I really started to get logical, strategic and intentional
- 3:18Speaker 2: about everything in my life.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And whether or not that was my physical health or
- 3:23Speaker 1: my relationships, or my business, or my brand, or my podcast,
- 3:27Speaker 1: or my academic pursuits or you know, my spiritual life
- 3:34Speaker 1: or whatever. It was until I started to get a
- 3:36Speaker 1: little bit kind of conscious and strategic about what that
- 3:43Speaker 1: would look like. And you sometimes you'll think, well, how
- 3:47Speaker 1: on earth can you be strategic about your spiritual life?
- 3:49Speaker 1: For example? Good question. So it might just be like
- 3:54Speaker 1: one of my goals might be I want to have
- 3:56Speaker 1: a component or an aspect to my life that is
- 4:02Speaker 1: more spiritual, more about giving than getting, more about having
- 4:06Speaker 1: a purpose bigger than me. And then the next thing
- 4:11Speaker 1: I would say, is all right, Well, a question I
- 4:13Speaker 1: would ask is, well, all right, Craig, what does that mean?
- 4:16Speaker 1: What does that mean to have a purpose bigger than you,
- 4:19Speaker 1: greater than you, so that you're not selfish, so that
- 4:22Speaker 1: you're not completely self absorbed, so that you might be
- 4:25Speaker 1: giving more even than you're getting. Who knows, and there's
- 4:29Speaker 1: no hard and fast rules about any of that. But
- 4:32Speaker 1: the truth is that whatever the goal, or whatever the
- 4:36Speaker 1: intentional or the desire or the dream, unless there's some
- 4:41Speaker 1: kind of strategy wrapped around that, it's very unlikely that
- 4:46Speaker 1: the person who says, I want to be much healthier
- 4:48Speaker 1: in twelve months, I want to be much healthier. I
- 4:51Speaker 1: want to be leaner, stronger, more functional, better immune system lower.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You know, that person who wants that but actually doesn't
- 4:58Speaker 1: have a plan or strategy to create that. We can't
- 5:02Speaker 1: execute a plan or a strategy we don't have. It's
- 5:05Speaker 1: very unlikely that the person who wants to create that
- 5:09Speaker 1: outcome but doesn't have any kind of goals or specific
- 5:12Speaker 1: structure or plans around that idea, The idea being I
- 5:16Speaker 1: want to in one year be a much better version
- 5:20Speaker 1: physiologically of me than I am. Now, that's a nice idea,
- 5:24Speaker 1: that's a nice intention, that's an understandable desire, but it's
- 5:28Speaker 1: not a goal. It's not a goal and tool there's
- 5:31Speaker 1: a structure and a timeline and accountability and process and
- 5:35Speaker 1: all of those things. And while, as I said a
- 5:38Speaker 1: few minutes ago, I'm all for instinctiveness and intuition and
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, at times flying by the seat of my
- 5:46Speaker 1: pants and being in the moment and figuring shit out
- 5:49Speaker 1: in real time. In fact, if I'm being honest, that's
- 5:51Speaker 1: my that's my jam, that's what I'm the best at.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm great at making shit up in the moment. I'm
- 5:58Speaker 1: great at figuring shit up, figuring shit out, I should say,
- 6:02Speaker 1: in the moment, that intuitive instinctive being in front of
- 6:07Speaker 1: a group of people and just figuring it out in
- 6:09Speaker 1: real time and all those things is probably, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: something that I'm I want say I'm great at, but
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think I'm not bad at all of that stuff. Right. So,
- 6:18Speaker 1: so for me to be really organized, to be really structured,
- 6:22Speaker 1: to have accountability, to have a process, to have timelines,
- 6:26Speaker 1: to have some kind of template or to do list
- 6:31Speaker 1: that I follow consistently and keeps me kind of grounded
- 6:37Speaker 1: and aware and accountable. For me, that was something I
- 6:41Speaker 1: really had to develop and learn and incorporate into my
- 6:46Speaker 1: life over time, because that isn't my natural kind of
- 6:50Speaker 1: default set. So without giving you a set you know,
- 6:58Speaker 1: plan or set rest a set formula, I'm going to
- 7:02Speaker 1: give you some some thoughts and ideas. I did do
- 7:07Speaker 1: a version of this, I don't know a few years
- 7:09Speaker 1: ago on the show, but let's just develop it. So
- 7:14Speaker 1: for me, there are some just simple questions that simple
- 7:19Speaker 1: questions and or steps that I work through with people.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So I'm going to work through these with you. And
- 7:29Speaker 1: so the first thing is like what do you want? Like,
- 7:34Speaker 1: what is the thing that you want to change or
- 7:36Speaker 1: do or be or create or overcome? What is the
- 7:41Speaker 1: thing that you want? What's the outcome that you want?
- 7:47Speaker 1: And that thing that you want that that could be.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I mean like when I did a goal sitting session
- 7:57Speaker 1: last night with my mentor group, So I'm recording this
- 8:01Speaker 1: Tuesday morning. We did it Monday night, and even within that,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I've shared a framework with them which is a little
- 8:10Speaker 1: lot more developed than what I'm sharing with you right now.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But you know, when we talk about different types of goals,
- 8:16Speaker 1: for example, so there might be outcome based goals or
- 8:20Speaker 1: action based goals, or lifestyle goals, or health goals, or
- 8:23Speaker 1: financial goals, or fitness goals or career goals, or spiritual
- 8:27Speaker 1: goals as I said before, or learning and or professional
- 8:30Speaker 1: development goals, or academic goals, or relationship goals, social goals,
- 8:34Speaker 1: giving service goals, and there might even be goals that
- 8:38Speaker 1: are built around having fun and playing just having downtime. Right, So,
- 8:46Speaker 1: when we think about the totality of our life, I mean,
- 8:49Speaker 1: it's multi dimensional thing, isn't it. We know that, for example,
- 8:55Speaker 1: we could be earning great dough, we could be making
- 8:58Speaker 1: lots of money, and in the middle of our money stuff,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and so you know, in the middle of all of that,
- 9:03Speaker 1: we're not particularly happy. And that's no revelation. You know
- 9:05Speaker 1: that this is no kind of light bulb moment for anyone.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And so it's trying to factor in as much as
- 9:13Speaker 1: we can without doing our head in, but trying to
- 9:15Speaker 1: factor in, well, what does success look like for me
- 9:19Speaker 1: from a holistic perspective, taking my entire life and existence
- 9:26Speaker 1: and experience, my situation, my circumstance, my career, my emotional health,
- 9:33Speaker 1: my mental health, my physical health, my social interactions, my relationships,
- 9:38Speaker 1: my family. Like when I look at all of that stuff,
- 9:41Speaker 1: because that is the stuff that kind of builds my existence,
- 9:45Speaker 1: it's not who I am it's what I do. But
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's the stuff that forms the basis of my life
- 9:52Speaker 1: and my existence. What are the things that I want
- 9:55Speaker 1: to do better? Or what are the things that need
- 9:57Speaker 1: to change? What are the things that are going right?
- 10:00Speaker 1: So when I say to you question one, what is
- 10:02Speaker 1: it that you want? I guess it could be a
- 10:05Speaker 1: bunch of things. It could be internal, it could be
- 10:08Speaker 1: external the thing that you want, Like one of the
- 10:12Speaker 1: most common goals that I hear from people, once we
- 10:17Speaker 1: get through all the kind of smoke and mirrors, what
- 10:20Speaker 1: they really want is to be less anxious. It's an
- 10:25Speaker 1: internal shift, isn't it. They're not saying what you know
- 10:28Speaker 1: what I really want? Want a faster car. You know
- 10:30Speaker 1: what I really want? I need a bloody bigger telling.
- 10:32Speaker 1: You know what I really want? I want that pair
- 10:34Speaker 1: of jenes. Nothing wrong with wanting any of those things.
- 10:38Speaker 1: But what we really want at our core is most
- 10:41Speaker 1: of us want to be calm. Most of us want
- 10:43Speaker 1: to be joyful. Most of us want to be able
- 10:45Speaker 1: to sleep, most of us want to be able to
- 10:47Speaker 1: have meaningful relationships. Most of us want to have a
- 10:50Speaker 1: life that is full of purpose. Okay, so number one
- 10:56Speaker 1: is just what do you want, and when you here's
- 10:59Speaker 1: the thing. I know clearly you know that I'm freestyling
- 11:03Speaker 1: as I do this. So here's the thing. If you
- 11:08Speaker 1: attempt to do what I'm sharing with you in this
- 11:11Speaker 1: little kind of extravaganza here in twenty minutes or ten minutes,
- 11:15Speaker 1: it's not going to work. My advice to you is
- 11:19Speaker 1: if you are serious about really changing the quality of
- 11:23Speaker 1: your life, the direction of your life, what you're doing,
- 11:26Speaker 1: how you're being, the outcomes you're producing, potentially your situation
- 11:32Speaker 1: or circumstance or career or environment or whatever it is like,
- 11:36Speaker 1: this is not a five to ten minute thing. Last
- 11:41Speaker 1: week when I last night, I should say, when I
- 11:43Speaker 1: gave the group this framework that I've designed, I said
- 11:48Speaker 1: to them, this is at least a ten hour process.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And it is because you think about what do you
- 11:55Speaker 1: want the next thirty years, or what do you want
- 11:57Speaker 1: the next year, what do you want the next three
- 11:59Speaker 1: or five years of your life to look like? How
- 12:03Speaker 1: important is it to you to change this stuff? And
- 12:08Speaker 1: then and then how much time and energy and focus
- 12:12Speaker 1: and brain power do I need to invest now or
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the near future, And how much am I willing
- 12:22Speaker 1: to invest to create something that I really like being
- 12:26Speaker 1: in the middle of for the next one, three, five, ten, twenty,
- 12:29Speaker 1: pick your number years. So back to question one, what
- 12:34Speaker 1: do you want? Question two is why do you want it?
- 12:37Speaker 1: And you've heard me say this before, but the why,
- 12:39Speaker 1: that's your real goal, that's your reason, that's your driver,
- 12:42Speaker 1: that's your underlying motivation. That's the thing that is driving
- 12:47Speaker 1: number two. The why is driving number one the what
- 12:50Speaker 1: because I believe I have a belief somewhere you and
- 12:53Speaker 1: I have a belief that when I achieve the goal
- 12:56Speaker 1: question one, the thing that I want, that will give
- 12:59Speaker 1: me my why, that will give me the joy, that
- 13:03Speaker 1: will give me the ability to be able to you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: when I'm earning more money, There'll be less arguments in
- 13:08Speaker 1: the house. When I'm earning more money, I'll be able
- 13:11Speaker 1: to sleep at night. When I'm earning more money, I'll
- 13:13Speaker 1: be happier. I'll be this, I'll be that. So there's
- 13:16Speaker 1: the external achievement in this case money, the external achievement,
- 13:20Speaker 1: and what we think will be the correlated internal shift
- 13:25Speaker 1: or outcome. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. And also
- 13:30Speaker 1: when we realize, look, what I really want is I
- 13:34Speaker 1: just want to get on better with my partner and
- 13:36Speaker 1: always having blues about money, or I just want to
- 13:40Speaker 1: be able to sleep at night and not worry about money,
- 13:43Speaker 1: or I want to be able to, you know, have
- 13:47Speaker 1: a better car and the money will do whatever. It is,
- 13:49Speaker 1: none of those bad goals, by the way, or bad reasons.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But sometimes when we hit the pause button and we say,
- 13:56Speaker 1: is it really is that really going to? Is the
- 14:00Speaker 1: reason that we're fighting really just money? Is it only
- 14:04Speaker 1: about money? Or could it be something about the way
- 14:07Speaker 1: that we think about money? Could it be something about
- 14:09Speaker 1: your personality and mind together. Could it be something about
- 14:13Speaker 1: our beliefs. Could it be something about fear? Could it
- 14:15Speaker 1: be could it be all of that? And maybe money
- 14:18Speaker 1: Maybe it is the solution, by the way, but maybe
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's not in some particular instances. So this is my point,
- 14:26Speaker 1: is to really understand the underlying psychological and emotional drivers
- 14:35Speaker 1: that push us towards wanting a certain goal or outcome.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So knowing what you want, of course, is important. Knowing
- 14:46Speaker 1: why you want it is more important. Number three on
- 14:54Speaker 1: our little kind of process here is for you to
- 14:59Speaker 1: once of s it, maybe do this after you've set
- 15:02Speaker 1: a bunch of goals, but then to go through those goals.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Let's say you set ten goals that you want to achieve,
- 15:08Speaker 1: do be, create, change whatever become over the next year.
- 15:12Speaker 1: For example, let's say you've set ten goals. Now, what
- 15:16Speaker 1: is a really good idea to do is to go
- 15:18Speaker 1: through each of those goals and rank them from five
- 15:22Speaker 1: to ten, not one to ten, five to ten. Now,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I'm assuming that they are all somewhat important because you've
- 15:29Speaker 1: set a goal. So that's why I start at five.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I don't start at one. One would infer that it's unimportant.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And if it was unimportant, you're not setting a goal.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So I'm going to say in this little kind of
- 15:41Speaker 1: Craig scale that you may or may not want to use,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but my thinking is five means look, I really I
- 15:47Speaker 1: want to do this. I want to change that thing.
- 15:50Speaker 1: But it's not the top of the list. It's not paramount,
- 15:53Speaker 1: it's not urgent. But yes, And an example of that
- 15:57Speaker 1: might be I would love to do a certificate for
- 16:03Speaker 1: in fitness one day. I would love to I'd love
- 16:07Speaker 1: to do the qualification to become a personal trainer. And
- 16:11Speaker 1: maybe I want to work in the industry, maybe not,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but I'd really love to learn about how the body
- 16:16Speaker 1: works and how to lift, and a little bit about nutrition,
- 16:18Speaker 1: a little bit about psychology of exercise, a little bit
- 16:21Speaker 1: about anatomy and physiology, and so yeah, that's I'm going
- 16:24Speaker 1: to put that on my to do list. I would
- 16:26Speaker 1: like to do that one day. That is a goal,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but it's not a ten goal. It's a five, and
- 16:30Speaker 1: I'll get to it eventually probably, but if I don't,
- 16:34Speaker 1: it's not life and death, but a ten. A nine
- 16:37Speaker 1: or a ten might be I want to reduce anxiety.
- 16:44Speaker 1: As I've said before, a nine or ten might be
- 16:48Speaker 1: I want to get physically healthy. And my why is
- 16:56Speaker 1: because I don't want to die. My why is I
- 16:58Speaker 1: want to have a long health span. Why is I
- 17:01Speaker 1: want to be able to play with my kids or grandkids.
- 17:03Speaker 1: My why is because I'm in pain all the time
- 17:06Speaker 1: and I'm fucking exhausted. Okay, So our why is powerful.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And so with that particular goal, that would be a
- 17:13Speaker 1: nine or ten perhaps in this hypothetical that I'm presenting
- 17:16Speaker 1: to you. So my point is this, once you've set
- 17:19Speaker 1: your goals, then go through them. And the reason that
- 17:21Speaker 1: we can kind of ascribe a number between five and
- 17:27Speaker 1: ten is because then it makes it easier for us
- 17:31Speaker 1: to action plan moving forwards, so we can prioritize, so
- 17:36Speaker 1: I know that my anxiety and my getting in shape,
- 17:39Speaker 1: or let's say, in my instance, one of my important
- 17:43Speaker 1: goals and commitments is that I look after my mum
- 17:47Speaker 1: and dad and as much as I can, I support them,
- 17:50Speaker 1: love them, protect them. Whatever that looks like, how important
- 17:53Speaker 1: is that to me? That's a ten. So that's the
- 17:57Speaker 1: top of my list, right in terms of just stuff
- 18:01Speaker 1: that I want to do over the next one two,
- 18:03Speaker 1: five years, right, And so you'll figure out what is
- 18:07Speaker 1: a five, six, seven, eight, nine or ten for you.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You'll figure that out. And by the way, there's no
- 18:11Speaker 1: right or wrong, there's just your right or wrong. So
- 18:15Speaker 1: number one is what do you want? Number two is
- 18:17Speaker 1: why do you want it? Number three is figure out
- 18:22Speaker 1: how important that is to you? And by the way,
- 18:25Speaker 1: you know, the chances of you doing something and creating
- 18:28Speaker 1: real shift and real change and an amazing outcome by
- 18:33Speaker 1: starting something that for you isn't really important, the chances
- 18:37Speaker 1: of you creating a great outcome and next and next
- 18:41Speaker 1: to zero, So these things want to really matter to you.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Number four is where we get into the really the strategizing,
- 18:48Speaker 1: planning operationalizing stage, And that's just how are you going
- 18:53Speaker 1: to do it? You know what you want, you know
- 18:56Speaker 1: why you want it, you know how important it is.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The Next one is your how cool? So what why? How?
- 19:03Speaker 1: How are you going to do it? Like? What is
- 19:05Speaker 1: your strategy? What is your plan or of what do
- 19:10Speaker 1: you need to do less of? You know what does
- 19:12Speaker 1: that look like? So? How will you do be? Create?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Change the thing that you need to address or become?
- 19:20Speaker 1: What is your plan? What is your strategy? What is
- 19:22Speaker 1: the protocol? What needs to become normal for you? And
- 19:27Speaker 1: so on and so on. Number five is your timeline? Cool?
- 19:31Speaker 1: You know what you want to do, you know why
- 19:33Speaker 1: you want to do it. You've now created a plan
- 19:36Speaker 1: about how to do it, how to execute it, how
- 19:38Speaker 1: to create it? Great? What's the timeline between where you
- 19:44Speaker 1: are now in the intention dimension? The intention dimension? Do
- 19:48Speaker 1: you're like that where we're thinking about it, we're about
- 19:50Speaker 1: to start it, but we're not doing it now between
- 19:53Speaker 1: right now listening to me in this theoretical stage of
- 19:56Speaker 1: this and when you are going to you have actualized
- 20:01Speaker 1: that plan or maybe maybe it's an ongoing thing, But
- 20:05Speaker 1: what's your timeline around that? I like having a timeline
- 20:09Speaker 1: because it gives us a level of if we do
- 20:13Speaker 1: it the right way, it gives us a level of
- 20:15Speaker 1: momentum and pressure, a good kind of pressure, so that
- 20:21Speaker 1: we will We are more likely to perform if there's
- 20:23Speaker 1: no timeline, if there's no KPI, if there's no date
- 20:30Speaker 1: my experiences, we are far less, far less likely to
- 20:35Speaker 1: get shit done. Number six is two more on this
- 20:39Speaker 1: little kind of simple process or framework, whatever you want
- 20:43Speaker 1: to call it. Number six is what's your first step? Like,
- 20:48Speaker 1: what is the first practical thing that you are going
- 20:51Speaker 1: to do other than set the goals and do this
- 20:53Speaker 1: stuff right now? But beyond this stuff that you're going
- 20:56Speaker 1: to do, what's your first step? What's the first action?
- 21:01Speaker 1: So that might be back to the example of giving
- 21:04Speaker 1: of saying I want to do a sert for I
- 21:06Speaker 1: want to learn how to be a personal trainer or whatever.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Maybe the first step is today, I'm going to make
- 21:12Speaker 1: some phone calls. I'm going to ring a couple of
- 21:15Speaker 1: course providers. I'm going to talk to people. I'm going
- 21:18Speaker 1: to get an idea of how it works, how it
- 21:21Speaker 1: works face to face, how it works online. Is there
- 21:23Speaker 1: a hybrid model of that? How much does it cost?
- 21:27Speaker 1: How long does it take? Is there anything that I
- 21:31Speaker 1: can do in terms of pre prep that I can
- 21:34Speaker 1: increase my chances of creating a good outcome? Blah blah blah.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So my first step is I'm going to inform myself
- 21:39Speaker 1: educate myself. Maybe it means I'm going to jump l
- 21:42Speaker 1: online and have a look at some websites from course providers.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Maybe I'm going to talk to Diane or Dave at
- 21:50Speaker 1: Australian Fitness Academy or AIIR for whoever it is, right,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'm going to go and I'm going to talk to someone.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But what I'm doing is I'm starting the process. I'm
- 22:00Speaker 1: starting the process. And number seven is what's your accountability system?
- 22:07Speaker 1: In other words, what is your when I'm not motivated plan?
- 22:15Speaker 1: How will you stay proactive and productive and effective when
- 22:21Speaker 1: maybe the motivation, the inspiration, the excitement, the focus has disappeared.
- 22:31Speaker 1: What is the thing that will keep you doing the
- 22:34Speaker 1: thing that you need to do irrespective of the peaks
- 22:38Speaker 1: and troughs of emotion and excitement and focus and attention
- 22:41Speaker 1: and commitment that you might feel day to day. So
- 22:45Speaker 1: how do I you know? So, for example, part of
- 22:48Speaker 1: that for me is part of my accountability is that
- 22:52Speaker 1: every day I train with someone else. Every day I
- 22:55Speaker 1: train with one of my mates, I train with the crab,
- 22:57Speaker 1: as most of you know. And so apart from the
- 23:00Speaker 1: fact that I'd probably turn up anyway because I've created
- 23:02Speaker 1: a habit, but the fact that I'm going to meet someone,
- 23:06Speaker 1: the fact that somebody is going to be at the
- 23:08Speaker 1: gym at four o'clock or three o'clock or five o'clock today,
- 23:12Speaker 1: that guarantees that I'm going to be there. So the
- 23:14Speaker 1: willisle won't I For me personally, it's never really an issue,
- 23:18Speaker 1: But for a lot of us, the will i'le won't. I. Well,
- 23:21Speaker 1: my back's little sore, or I'm a bit cold, or
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's raining, or I'm a little tired. But if you
- 23:27Speaker 1: know that you are going to meet someone and in
- 23:29Speaker 1: order to get out of it, you know you've got
- 23:32Speaker 1: to ring them and tell them that, then it's much
- 23:36Speaker 1: more likely. Research and observation and anecdote tells me that
- 23:42Speaker 1: people are much more likely to keep doing the thing
- 23:45Speaker 1: they need to do to create the outcome they want
- 23:48Speaker 1: to create, in other words, achieve the goal. They achieve
- 23:51Speaker 1: the goal they want to achieve. When there is accountability
- 23:55Speaker 1: and Accountability can be anything from keeping a food and
- 23:58Speaker 1: exercise diary to seeing a psychologist or a counselor or
- 24:03Speaker 1: a coach or a dietitian or a personal trainer on
- 24:07Speaker 1: a regular basis. It could be a walking partner. It
- 24:10Speaker 1: could be somebody that you meet a certain number of
- 24:12Speaker 1: days a week at a certain time, and that's locked in,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and you guys just do that whether or not that
- 24:20Speaker 1: is you know, every day or some days you know,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and it's flexible, I guess, But it's just means that
- 24:28Speaker 1: you have a level of commitment that is going to
- 24:31Speaker 1: be harder to break than to actually complete, because you
- 24:34Speaker 1: don't want to let someone down, you don't want to
- 24:36Speaker 1: be embarrassed you, and so on and so on, and
- 24:39Speaker 1: so I think this is I'm not going to bang
- 24:43Speaker 1: on too much longer, but I think this is not
- 24:45Speaker 1: a bad place to start. And I think in a
- 24:51Speaker 1: world of an ever increasing social media and media world
- 24:56Speaker 1: and audiobook world of and written hard copy book world
- 25:02Speaker 1: of how to be better, how to think better, how
- 25:05Speaker 1: to do better, how to reach your peak, how to
- 25:07Speaker 1: be all you can be, and all of that stuff
- 25:10Speaker 1: is cool. It's all cool. But here's what I know.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I know that we have never had more inspirational, motivational, educational,
- 25:18Speaker 1: get your shit together stuff. We've never had more than
- 25:20Speaker 1: we have now. And my observation is that I think
- 25:28Speaker 1: generally people are struggling more than ever. Not everyone and
- 25:33Speaker 1: not all the time, of course, but I am speaking
- 25:38Speaker 1: to more and more and more people who's the wheels
- 25:42Speaker 1: are falling off their life and their sanity and their
- 25:45Speaker 1: physical health and their you know, and things are hard,
- 25:50Speaker 1: and things are things are not easy, and so this
- 25:53Speaker 1: is no judgment or criticism. This is just an awareness
- 25:56Speaker 1: that I have had, and I just now, whatever protocol
- 26:02Speaker 1: you follow, whatever you know, you might you might come
- 26:05Speaker 1: up with your own version of what I just said,
- 26:07Speaker 1: or you might follow something completely all completely different altogether.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. But you are not going to accidentally
- 26:17Speaker 1: end up great. You're not going to stumble into high
- 26:21Speaker 1: levels of physical, mental, and emotional health. You're not going
- 26:24Speaker 1: to accidentally get there. You're not going to accidentally build
- 26:28Speaker 1: an awesome career or business. You're not going to accidentally
- 26:30Speaker 1: resolve all the problems. You're not going to accidentally undo
- 26:35Speaker 1: all those things that you did or deal with that
- 26:38Speaker 1: habit without any conscious effort and So knowing is good, informing,
- 26:44Speaker 1: being informed is good, education is good. Podcasts are good
- 26:48Speaker 1: some of them. And that goes with everything, right, books, everything,
- 26:52Speaker 1: But it's up to you even with my stuff. Don't
- 26:54Speaker 1: believe it because I say it, don't believe it because
- 26:57Speaker 1: you perhaps like me or enjoy listening to me, but
- 27:01Speaker 1: rather just say, well, that seems to make sense. I'm
- 27:04Speaker 1: going to take it for a test drive. I'm going
- 27:05Speaker 1: to try it out. But there needs to there needs
- 27:09Speaker 1: to be a point in time where all of us,
- 27:12Speaker 1: me included. There needs to be a point in time
- 27:14Speaker 1: where not that we stop listening, or we stop reading,
- 27:17Speaker 1: or we stop learning. I think reading, learning, listening, you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: upskilling personal growth. I think this is this is for me.
- 27:25Speaker 1: It's been an ongoing classroom for me, you know. But
- 27:31Speaker 1: at the same time, if we wait until we're comfortable
- 27:36Speaker 1: or certain or you know, all the planets have aligned,
- 27:42Speaker 1: if we keep waiting to actually step into the process,
- 27:45Speaker 1: we look up and it's five five years down the track.
- 27:49Speaker 1: We look up and we're like, oh shit, and now
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm sixty, Now I'm fifty old shit, And now it's
- 27:54Speaker 1: two thousand and thirty not twenty twenty five, and five
- 27:58Speaker 1: years ago, I was talking about this, I was thinking
- 28:00Speaker 1: about this. I was listening to Craig's podcast. I started this,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I stopped that. I started this, I stopped that. I
- 28:05Speaker 1: almost did it, then I undid it. I got excited,
- 28:08Speaker 1: then I got unexcited. I was in the zone. I
- 28:10Speaker 1: was out of the zone. And this, for many of us,
- 28:13Speaker 1: is just a fucking cycle of frustration, pointlessness, and wasted
- 28:18Speaker 1: time and talent and potential. The only person that can
- 28:23Speaker 1: make your life awesome as you, the only person that
- 28:27Speaker 1: can overcome toxic thinking and destructive habits and start to
- 28:33Speaker 1: create better outcomes as you. And yes, you can be
- 28:35Speaker 1: supported and encouraged, and you can have you know, the Cheersquad,
- 28:41Speaker 1: and you can all of those things, and they're not bad,
- 28:43Speaker 1: they're good. But ultimately it comes down to you. Ultimately,
- 28:47Speaker 1: it comes down to what you do with what you know.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Ultimately it comes down to your resilience and your courage
- 28:53Speaker 1: and your ability to just keep doing the things that
- 28:56Speaker 1: you need to do.
