Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Longhorns were fired up last night, jumped out to
- 0:04Speaker 1: an early lead on New Mexico State, never looked back,
- 0:06Speaker 1: never had the game tied, never had really even threatened.
- 0:10Speaker 1: They were up by twenty five of the half, led
- 0:12Speaker 1: by as many as I think thirty two ended up
- 0:14Speaker 1: winning it ninety one to sixty seven. So yeah, they
- 0:20Speaker 1: won by twenty four points. After the game, visited with
- 0:24Speaker 1: head coach Rodney Terry outside the locker room to talk
- 0:26Speaker 1: about his team's attention to detail and continue development.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Talk about pretty complete.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Did you see it as a pretty complete effort by
- 0:34Speaker 1: your guys?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what, We talked the last two days
- 0:37Speaker 3: about urgency and how how important it is for us
- 0:40Speaker 3: to develop urgency right now before we ebook on SEC play,
- 0:44Speaker 3: because you have to. It's going to be really important
- 0:46Speaker 3: to play with urgency in the SEC. And I thought
- 0:49Speaker 3: they really met the challenge tonight. You know, this team
- 0:53Speaker 3: was coming off a good win over in the pitch.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Really hard to win in the bit if you you know,
- 0:58Speaker 3: you know basketball over there, it's really hard those guys,
- 1:00Speaker 3: but they played hard. They compete the Well Coast and
- 1:04Speaker 3: we knew we were going to get a good game
- 1:05Speaker 3: to night but I thought our guys really bounced back
- 1:07Speaker 3: really really good focus, and I thought we were better
- 1:10Speaker 3: in areas we need to get better tonight.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You know, it was mentioned to me and I mentioned
- 1:13Speaker 1: to Tremont that it seemed like he was able to
- 1:16Speaker 1: lose himself in the game and do well and seem
- 1:18Speaker 1: pretty comfortable tonight. Oh.
- 1:19Speaker 3: We tell guys great to get lost playing really hard
- 1:21Speaker 3: on defense, and the thing we asked him to do
- 1:23Speaker 3: is try to play with the motor on defense and
- 1:25Speaker 3: then offense comes.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Easy to you.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And I thought he got I thought he really got
- 1:29Speaker 3: off to the great star defense. They're trying to go
- 1:31Speaker 3: out one of the better players, really good shooter, and
- 1:34Speaker 3: we weren't switching at all to day. We're gonna stay
- 1:35Speaker 3: with our man, and I thought he was pretty locked
- 1:38Speaker 3: in on that end of the floor.
- 1:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I see your Pimter guys making plays now passing the
- 1:43Speaker 4: ball that maybe they wouldn't make it early in years.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Seemed like you guys were sharing the ball and they're
- 1:47Speaker 4: really learning to play with each other, which is important.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I thought we really need to improve.
- 1:52Speaker 3: In the last game, a prayer movement, ball movement.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We had nineteen.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Assist a night, sharing the ball plenty five mentality, don't
- 1:59Speaker 3: play with the ball, get the ball out of your
- 2:01Speaker 3: hands and move the basketball. Cut with the purpose, cut hard.
- 2:06Speaker 3: You know, again, we hadn't practiced as much as on
- 2:09Speaker 3: our office as much as we needed to, and we
- 2:12Speaker 3: made it a focal point the last couple of days
- 2:14Speaker 3: of work on those things. Specifically alone was still working
- 2:18Speaker 3: on our defense.
- 2:18Speaker 2: We spent a lot of time on our defense.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You also were able to get some bench guys some
- 2:23Speaker 1: extended minutes, Nick Cody, I thought Jamie Vincent gave you
- 2:26Speaker 1: some good minutes tonight, even DP Dvian Pryor gave you
- 2:30Speaker 1: some minutes.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Valuable minutes for those young guys. All those minutes are
- 2:33Speaker 3: really really valuable for them. Every minutes valuable in every game,
- 2:36Speaker 3: but especially for young guys that you're bringing alone and
- 2:39Speaker 3: you're developing those guys. They have a full scale workout
- 2:42Speaker 3: in the morning's on game day. Uh and uh, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 3: if we're in a position to be able to play
- 2:48Speaker 3: them and give them opportunities, we want to be to
- 2:50Speaker 3: do that, and tonight we're fortunate to be able to
- 2:52Speaker 3: do that.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Weird time of year, isn't it the end of the
- 2:54Speaker 1: academic semester and some people going through finals and all
- 2:57Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, and then you get in that
- 2:58Speaker 1: long spell where's just back basketball and not much else.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, what's it's one of those times of
- 3:03Speaker 3: the year where guys can be physically physically fatigued, they
- 3:07Speaker 3: can be mentally fatigued. You know, we had a big
- 3:08Speaker 3: ball game because you've gone the other day and our
- 3:11Speaker 3: guys were still you know, a lot of academic work.
- 3:13Speaker 3: It's a lot a lot on their plate right now
- 3:15Speaker 3: to close it out and everything. But we're here in
- 3:17Speaker 3: the last week of it, and from that point on
- 3:20Speaker 3: it'll be pretty much just basketball. You know, they can
- 3:23Speaker 3: focus and try to be guys that really lock in
- 3:26Speaker 3: to to what we're trying to get done, both offensively
- 3:28Speaker 3: and defensively.
- 3:29Speaker 2: All right, appreciate the time, Artie, Congrats on the wind.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Thanks true. All right.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So yeah, in this somewhat odd time of year, the Longhorns,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, took care of business last night. I think
- 3:42Speaker 1: when they'll play Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at
- 3:45Speaker 1: Moody probably will handle their business then and then they're
- 3:50Speaker 1: off for a few days till after Christmas. Well, actually,
- 3:52Speaker 1: they have one more home game there and that'll follow afterwards.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And then after New Orleans.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, against New Orleans on Thursday of the nineteenth And
- 4:07Speaker 1: by the way, a very underrated logo the Privateers. Yeah, underrated.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I think, why do you think that that's underrated? I
- 4:14Speaker 1: just I mean, I don't think people reminded me of
- 4:16Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yeah, I just don't think a lot
- 4:18Speaker 1: of people know that Nola has a university. But I think,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, it's it's a cool you know, it's a
- 4:23Speaker 1: cool logo. They do have a university, it's called Tulane,
- 4:28Speaker 1: but they also Yeah, I don't think a lot of
- 4:30Speaker 1: people know that.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You're right, Yeah, you And.
- 4:35Speaker 1: When I went down to New Orleans to broadcast the
- 4:39Speaker 1: Final Four in two thousand and three, Texas of course
- 4:43Speaker 1: went to the Final Four that year and both men's
- 4:45Speaker 1: and women's basketball, and the men were playing in New
- 4:49Speaker 1: Orleans at the Superdome.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And.
- 4:53Speaker 1: We got down there a couple of days early, and
- 4:58Speaker 1: Mike Perle, who was our basketball engineer at the Mike.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And I.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Think went to see We went to the Lakefront Arena,
- 5:09Speaker 1: which is UNO's home arena.
- 5:12Speaker 2: The basketball team.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They don't play where don't play the Smoothi King Arena.
- 5:16Speaker 1: They don't play at the Smoothie King Arena. They do
- 5:18Speaker 1: not play in the NBA area. They play on and
- 5:20Speaker 1: on campus FA. So it's a nice building. We went
- 5:22Speaker 1: to see a concert. We went to see Bardaked Ladies
- 5:25Speaker 1: play there before things got real business. It was good
- 5:28Speaker 1: that had a good time there before they played. So anyway,
- 5:32Speaker 1: that was there and then back then all right, coming
- 5:35Speaker 1: up an interesting different take on Bowl games because I
- 5:40Speaker 1: know a lot of people think, gosh, there's so many
- 5:42Speaker 1: Bowl games and I don't care to watch, and I
- 5:45Speaker 1: have my own opinion about that, which I'll get to,
- 5:47Speaker 1: but there's another opinion on it that you need to hear.
- 5:49Speaker 1: We'll get to that when we continue on Sports Radio
- 5:51Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
