- 0:00So depending on who you ask, Mermaids can symbolize both fortune and misfortune, like the sea
- 0:10they can be both beautiful and deadly.
- 0:14And if you were to travel to Portland's sister city, Moutares in Bobway, ooh, and ask
- 0:22them what they think of Mermaids, they would probably lean towards the misfortune or deadly
- 0:28side.
- 0:29Okay.
- 0:30Hi, Caitlyn.
- 0:42Hi, Cassie.
- 0:44Hi, creepy people.
- 0:46The studio's looking pretty weird.
- 0:48Sorry, I got thrown off.
- 0:50Hello!
- 0:51I was like, is she gonna do it?
- 0:54I don't know.
- 0:55No one knows.
- 0:56No one knows.
- 0:58It's perpetually distracted by the bright lights.
- 1:01Yes, my arm fat.
- 1:03The lights are very bright.
- 1:05The arms are very skinny.
- 1:08Here at PNW Haunts and Homicides, which that's what this is.
- 1:12Is that what we're doing?
- 1:13Oh shit.
- 1:14Doing?
- 1:15Just start.
- 1:16No.
- 1:17This is perfect.
- 1:18Okay.
- 1:19Where we talk about true crime, the paranormal, and all things spooky and or magical in the
- 1:27Pacific Northwest.
- 1:29Erie.
- 1:30Sometimes other places.
- 1:32Yeah, also that.
- 1:34We also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode for a little bit of deeper insight
- 1:40into our topic.
- 1:42Deeper insight.
- 1:44Very deep.
- 1:45We dive deeper into the ocean.
- 1:48Oh.
- 1:49I mean, that's like the one place we haven't really explored very much of.
- 1:54I know, right?
- 1:55It makes me nervous.
- 1:57We might talk a little bit about today and about some of the creatures that might be in
- 2:02the ocean that we don't know about.
- 2:04No.
- 2:05But it's going to be fun.
- 2:06Don't worry.
- 2:07Okay.
- 2:08Look at our hair.
- 2:09We're having fun today.
- 2:10Yeah, we are having fun today.
- 2:11Yay.
- 2:12So this was actually a Patreon live that we did a while back.
- 2:17I can't remember when.
- 2:18Sometime last year, I think.
- 2:19Oh, yeah.
- 2:20It's been close to a year probably.
- 2:22I feel like.
- 2:24But with our birthdays, mining, Kaitlyn's coming up.
- 2:27Caitlyn's wedding, Shenanigans.
- 2:29There's a lot going on.
- 2:30So we decided we need to make our lives a little easy.
- 2:34Bring back something old that we've already written.
- 2:36I spruced it up a little bit.
- 2:38There's some stuff added to it that was not in the Patreon live.
- 2:41So you get something new as well.
- 2:45And there's a bonus that can go with it too.
- 2:47So a Patreon bonus.
- 2:49So you're not missing out on anything.
- 2:52We're not getting repeats because honestly we're goldfish.
- 2:55And we might not even remember what is in this episode.
- 2:58So that's what I was going to say.
- 3:01There's, I mean, if you're adding to it and then our commentary, the decides.
- 3:07Yes.
- 3:08The digression.
- 3:09We might say the same exact thing and not even know that we'd previously set it to either.
- 3:14Say.
- 3:15It's all new to us.
- 3:17Yeah.
- 3:18Well, I'm going to start us off with a little dad joke.
- 3:22Do you remember the dad joke?
- 3:24No.
- 3:25You might when I start say it.
- 3:28How do mermaids relax?
- 3:31I don't know.
- 3:32They smoke seaweed.
- 3:34Oh, my God.
- 3:37I was going to say are they like me and they just like don't?
- 3:42No, they do relax with you know, little seaweed at night after work in long hours.
- 3:48Whatever they what I was like when what stress what job does a mermaid have?
- 3:55Fishing.
- 3:56Fishing.
- 3:57Fishing.
- 3:58Is this not already a pretty carefree existence for mermaids?
- 4:02You know what they do?
- 4:03They swim around old shipwrecks and collect forks.
- 4:07Oh, oh, stressful day of that.
- 4:10You're going to use some seaweed after that.
- 4:12So I've been hard at work.
- 4:15So what is the scuttlebot with mermaids?
- 4:19That's adorable.
- 4:21I know right now.
- 4:22But it's like the mermaid version of gossip.
- 4:25I love it.
- 4:26Which is actually funny.
- 4:28That word is going to come back around at the end.
- 4:31Oh, yeah.
- 4:32Okay.
- 4:33So the English word for mermaid is the old English for sea, which is mare and made a young
- 4:41woman.
- 4:42A woman.
- 4:43In Ireland, they're called merrows.
- 4:47And this is where I was like, oh my god, we had just talked to Jacquelin from Merrow's Anchor.
- 4:53Yeah.
- 4:54And I was like, I didn't even know what Merrow's Anchor meant.
- 4:57Now it makes so much sense.
- 4:58Oh my gosh.
- 5:00There's literally a mermaid like in the artwork.
- 5:03You know how sometimes you learn something new, right?
- 5:07Again.
- 5:09So again, that was Jacquelin, our friend Jacquelin.
- 5:11Hi.
- 5:12And I did forget to say this was also a suggestion from Michelle, who I think was one of our
- 5:20patrons.
- 5:21I don't know if she still is, but this was your suggestion, Michelle.
- 5:25No, I, I, I, I, we had a couple of Michelle's.
- 5:28I don't know which Michelle it was.
- 5:32All of the Michelle's.
- 5:33Yeah.
- 5:34Michelle.
- 5:38What were we saying about making up mermaid names and I know I said, shelly, shelly.
- 5:45Because I'm an 80 year old and also a dad, despite the odds.
- 5:53I mean, this episode has dad jokes and shelly's in it.
- 5:57It's all coming together.
- 5:58I love it.
- 5:59So just another little aside, I was like just a little aside.
- 6:02And like the whole beginning is kind of an aside.
- 6:05Everything's an aside.
- 6:07But before we totally dive in, we're kind of doing this gender stereotype thing with this
- 6:16episode with like the mermaids, but I promise you at the end, I will fix it.
- 6:22Don't you worry.
- 6:23Oh, but I do have to say, you know, today we're talking mermaids, but mermaids are also a thing.
- 6:31They're just not as popular unless you're John Cena in the Barbie movie.
- 6:37For the fan, the favorite monster in cabin in the woods.
- 6:40It's a merman.
- 6:42Okay.
- 6:43You've never seen it.
- 6:44I think we've gone over this.
- 6:45Yeah.
- 6:46I feel like, yeah, it goes without saying.
- 6:49Yeah.
- 6:50So unless you're either one of those, no one really cares about merman, but I promise you,
- 6:54we'll fix it in the end.
- 6:55Okay.
- 6:56I don't know.
- 6:57Are we fixing it or fixing it?
- 6:59Okay.
- 7:00Mermaids have been making a splash in pop culture from books and music to Disney and Starbucks.
- 7:06So I assume the majority of us know what this mythical creature looks like.
- 7:12Upper body of a human until you get to the hip area and the rest is fish from there.
- 7:17Yep.
- 7:18Starbucks.
- 7:19Mermaid.
- 7:20She's stover titties out.
- 7:22Fun fact, if you didn't know, kids.
- 7:24Oh, she doesn't even have any now.
- 7:27Nope.
- 7:28They covered it with hair because titties are offensive as fuck you guys.
- 7:32She just looks like kind of like the under the below the belt bits of a kendall in her
- 7:40chest area now.
- 7:44Speaking of kendall.
- 7:45Nippleless.
- 7:46Yeah.
- 7:47That's funny.
- 7:48Kend comes up again in this.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:52It's, it's, we're so feeble with everything.
- 7:55I swear, we don't even try.
- 7:59So mermaids can pop up to the surface for the occasional interaction with a full human,
- 8:04you know, both halves are human and are generally considered non-threatening.
- 8:12This is different from a siren, another mythical being that is nowadays depicted as some type
- 8:17of evil fishy woman, woman, usually very similar looking to mermaid.
- 8:23Sirens are famously hostile and lure you to your demise with hypnotic song.
- 8:31Ooh.
- 8:32Yes.
- 8:33Not like hypnotic, the blue liqueur?
- 8:36Maybe both.
- 8:37Maybe she's singing about hypnotic.
- 8:38Molly, what are you doing?
- 8:39Oh, that's Charlie.
- 8:40Oh, sorry.
- 8:41He's Charlie.
- 8:42What?
- 8:43He can't tell from behind.
- 8:45Both are like brown little furry mudbutt.
- 8:48Charlie.
- 8:49That is more of a Charlie thing to do. He is standing in the closet just to stare in a way,
- 8:55stare in in the corner to box this basic, like there's literally nothing.
- 9:01I mean, no, no.
- 9:04It's, I mean, why would I be concerned?
- 9:06Yeah.
- 9:07Thanks, Charlie.
- 9:08We got to get that pod dog cam.
- 9:10We do.
- 9:11So you can see how creepy shit they do.
- 9:12We're recording.
- 9:14Oh.
- 9:15So with these sirens, think Harry Potter and the goblet of fire.
- 9:20Oh.
- 9:21Yeah.
- 9:22I have a fun fact for you though.
- 9:26Give it to me.
- 9:27A little shimmy.
- 9:28Well, sirens actually started out as human bird hybrids and over time, the lore kind of
- 9:34merged with mermaids.
- 9:36Merged with them.
- 9:37I don't like that.
- 9:38Yeah, I don't know why they like turn to them aquatic.
- 9:41Oh, I'm okay with them being aquatic.
- 9:44I don't like the bird.
- 9:46Yeah.
- 9:47You have to watch this clip though.
- 9:48So open the email I sent you.
- 9:50Damn it.
- 9:51There is a siren in what we do in the shadows.
- 9:54That is kind of the older version of a siren.
- 9:57And I just want you to watch it because it's very, it's, he he.
- 10:01She's like a Jersey girl.
- 10:03Is that what it is?
- 10:05Yeah.
- 10:06Like Jersey Shore.
- 10:07Oh, yeah.
- 10:08Jersey Shore.
- 10:09Yeah.
- 10:10The only thing I hate more than when someone tries to interrupt my song is when they join
- 10:16in.
- 10:17Is it me or is she hideous?
- 10:21We are in the presence of a siren.
- 10:26Yeah.
- 10:27Where is she just pulled out of her mouth?
- 10:31It was like a bone probably.
- 10:33My god.
- 10:34She's like eating things and birds.
- 10:39It's so funny.
- 10:40- It's perfect. - You have to watch it.
- 10:43- It's great.
- 10:45- So I'm just glad they really represented
- 10:47the old school siren, you know?
- 10:49- Yeah.
- 10:50(chiming)
- 10:53- So depending on who you ask,
- 10:56Mermaids can symbolize both fortune and misfortune.
- 11:00Like the sea they can be both beautiful and deadly.
- 11:06- Yeah. - Very deadly, the sea.
- 11:09- All right, dot lie.
- 11:10- What did I say the other day about Tennessee?
- 11:12I was like severely haunted,
- 11:13(laughing)
- 11:15to see severely haunted.
- 11:17- Not really haunted. - Sivirly deadly play.
- 11:20(laughing)
- 11:22I did not even remember I said that when I heard it.
- 11:25I was like, what the fuck was I even saying?
- 11:27Tennessee - severely haunted.
- 11:30(laughing)
- 11:32Oh God.
- 11:33- Okay, so like the sea, blue bit of blue, deadly.
- 11:38- Blue bit, blue, blue, blue, blue.
- 11:40They were used as figure heads on ships
- 11:45as kind of an offering to the sea for safe travels.
- 11:48- Oh, that's interesting.
- 11:50- So like the pretty blopshuous mermaid on the ship
- 11:54was as like a good omen for there.
- 11:57- Okay.
- 11:58- What's it called?
- 11:59Sailor ship?
- 12:00Do you sail a ship?
- 12:02- Yeah.
- 12:03- Or do you sail just a sailboat?
- 12:04- No, I think it can be sailing.
- 12:08I think that's the right term for more than one type of.
- 12:10- So sail.
- 12:11- Yeah.
- 12:13And if it's not like whatever,
- 12:15we're not sailors.
- 12:16- Right, so.
- 12:17- I had to look up nautical terms for this in a film.
- 12:19(laughing)
- 12:21I love it.
- 12:22- And if you were to travel to Portland's sister city,
- 12:25And if you were to travel to Portland’s sister city Mutare Zimbabwe,
- 12:28ooh, and ask them what they think of mermaids.
- 12:31They would probably lean towards the misfortune or deadly side.
- 12:36- Okay.
- 12:38Dam workers, not damn workers, but like dam workers.
- 12:42- God damn workers.
- 12:43(laughing)
- 12:45- Those GD dam workers.
- 12:47- Dam, dam workers, all over Zimbabwe,
- 12:51including Mutare, are being scared away from job sites
- 12:56by aggressive mermaid attacks.
- 13:00- Like this is like real, like this isn't the news.
- 13:03- Okay, it's straight up mermaid mayhem in this bitch.
- 13:07(laughing)
- 13:10- Well, some get away to tell their stories.
- 13:12Others, sadly, are never seen again.
- 13:15- Okay, that doesn't sound very mermaidy.
- 13:17- Not well.
- 13:18- It sounds more like.
- 13:19- More sireny.
- 13:19- Yeah.
- 13:20- But these mermaids are not good over in Zimbabwe.
- 13:23You gotta watch your back.
- 13:24- Okay.
- 13:25- This is a huge problem to have at a dam that provides water
- 13:30to the people.
- 13:33- Yeah.
- 13:33- So when it breaks and people are too scared to go and fix it,
- 13:37people are kind of fucked out of water.
- 13:39- Yeah, that's a problem.
- 13:40- It is a problem.
- 13:41- Yeah.
- 13:42- This was back, I think in like 2012, but they were doing
- 13:46everything they could to make the water safe again,
- 13:50performing rituals and traditional rights,
- 13:53even brewing special beer to appease the malicious mermaids.
- 13:57- I mean, I'm all about that.
- 13:59- Right.
- 14:00- I mean, I know we have our whole heart take about,
- 14:02that's a problem, you guys, but the beer sounds pretty good.
- 14:07- Mm-hmm.
- 14:08- What kind of beer?
- 14:08Do we have any information on that?
- 14:10- I try to look, but I didn't try that hard.
- 14:13- Yeah.
- 14:15- It's kind of an ancillary detail.
- 14:16- Yeah, and an initial goug of like,
- 14:19what is a Zimbabwe beer that scares the mermaid's away?
- 14:23It didn't really get me very far.
- 14:25If you can imagine.
- 14:28- Oh my God.
- 14:29- Mermaid repellent.
- 14:30- Yeah, mermaid.
- 14:31(laughs)
- 14:33So yeah, so I don't know if the beer was like an offering
- 14:35or if it like literally repelled them away.
- 14:37- Yeah.
- 14:38- Maybe we drink the beer and just like get too drunk
- 14:41to care about the mermaids?
- 14:42- I think that's a strong theory as well.
- 14:45- It's probably also dangerous around the dam though.
- 14:47I don't know.
- 14:48- This sounds good.
- 14:49- Yeah, I mean the whole thing, again guys, hot take,
- 14:51but not good.
- 14:53It's not good.
- 14:57It's not good and not only that, it's also bad.
- 14:59- Mermaids are bad and kind of good.
- 15:03(laughs)
- 15:05Zimbabweans are not unfamiliar with the supernatural.
- 15:10And these dam mermaids are a big part
- 15:15of their spiritual beliefs.
- 15:16So literally the mermaids are only in the dams.
- 15:21Like their dam(n) mermaids.
- 15:24- I don't, okay.
- 15:25- Yeah.
- 15:25- I see what you did there double entendre,
- 15:29but how does that happen?
- 15:32- I don't know, it's just a thing with like all of their dams
- 15:35have mermaids.
- 15:36I'm, to me it feels like the mermaid is kind of like
- 15:39the protector of the water and they,
- 15:41they don't like the dams obviously
- 15:43'cause they fuck with the natural flow of the earth.
- 15:46- Or the waterways.
- 15:48- Yeah, that makes sense.
- 15:49- That's my theory anyway.
- 15:50- They're like preservationists.
- 15:51- Right.
- 15:52- Which kind of makes sense with their whole vibe later.
- 15:56Yeah, we're gonna get into all that too.
- 15:58- But I mean, dam water isn't that freshwater?
- 16:01It's not like salty sea water.
- 16:04- No, it's not.
- 16:05They're freshwater mermaids.
- 16:07- I'm, you're never too old to learn something new.
- 16:12- Unless these dams are in the ocean,
- 16:14but I don't think so.
- 16:15- I didn't look at a map of like some like way.
- 16:17- You're like, I need to see you.
- 16:18(laughing)
- 16:19- I need to look up where all the dams are
- 16:22in the aboveway.
- 16:23- I got.
- 16:24- That's wild.
- 16:24- Okay.
- 16:25The mermaids are a big part of their spiritual beliefs.
- 16:28Obviously still there are some zimbabweans
- 16:32who are skeptical,
- 16:34blaming it on the unpredictable hazardous currents
- 16:37creating illusions in the dams.
- 16:39- Okay.
- 16:40I mean, I could see that.
- 16:42The earliest known mermaid tale is from 1000 BC
- 16:47about a Syrian goddess named Atargatis.
- 16:51- Oh.
- 16:52- She was a goddess of fertility and protection,
- 16:55water and the moon.
- 16:57So we like her.
- 16:58- Oh, yeah.
- 17:00I see you, you found.
- 17:01- Maybe not so much the fertility stuff for us,
- 17:04but for others.
- 17:05- I mean, you know, broad term fertility, you know?
- 17:09- Yeah.
- 17:10- For people who want it.
- 17:12- I mean, it doesn't have to be necessarily fertility
- 17:16in the way that I feel like we always apply it.
- 17:19- For general fertility reproductive organ health.
- 17:24- Yeah.
- 17:25- Let's go with that.
- 17:25- Yeah.
- 17:26I mean, I feel like at that point in history,
- 17:30too though they sort of viewed fertility,
- 17:35obviously in terms of reproduction,
- 17:37but think about it too in terms of like the land being
- 17:41for unlike your previous.
- 17:43- Like enough fish in the sea.
- 17:45- Yeah, you're right.
- 17:46We have talked about that before.
- 17:47- Take it back to food.
- 17:48- Yes.
- 17:49- That's where we live.
- 17:50That's our happy place.
- 17:51- You know.
- 17:52- Enough beer for everyone.
- 17:55- Got some beer, got some fish.
- 17:58- So the story of Atargatis might sound a little familiar
- 18:03to start.
- 18:04- She fell in love with a regular human mans.
- 18:07- Oh no.
- 18:09- Don't do it.
- 18:09- Don't ever do that.
- 18:11- Don't do it.
- 18:12- It's dangerous.
- 18:12- Yeah.
- 18:13- You end up getting married.
- 18:14- Yeah.
- 18:15- Funny you should say that.
- 18:19- Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 18:19- I'm getting married soon.
- 18:21- Yeah.
- 18:22- Well, and not to totally give anything away,
- 18:25but I do have a story coming up about the deadly,
- 18:33the, what did you say?
- 18:35It was like the seriously deadly or?
- 18:39- Oh, severely.
- 18:41- Yeah.
- 18:42- The severe deadliness of what?
- 18:44- I actually read that last night and it was not good.
- 18:49- Yeah.
- 18:50- That story was not good.
- 18:51- Terrible.
- 18:52- Don't listen to it.
- 18:53(laughing)
- 18:54- Is it or is it not?
- 18:56Like it reads like a story that I wrote specifically
- 19:00to be all of Christopher's Nightmare Fuel?
- 19:03- Yeah.
- 19:04- It does.
- 19:05- It's like, I can't even--
- 19:06- I was like, well, she's mean.
- 19:08(laughing)
- 19:09- I told him.
- 19:09I was like, I think we went back and forth.
- 19:14So he hasn't read it and we haven't recorded it yet
- 19:17'cause spoiler alert Chris is going to record that one with me
- 19:20and I was like, maybe I'll have him read it first
- 19:22and then I was like, no, don't.
- 19:25- Yeah.
- 19:26- Let the horror sink in real time.
- 19:30- Make him cry.
- 19:31(laughing)
- 19:32If he doesn't cry, he's a monster.
- 19:34- I seriously doubt he'll cry.
- 19:36He's just not really a cryer,
- 19:37but just have to get eyedrops in him
- 19:39and then return back to the camera.
- 19:41- It's a little movie magic.
- 19:42- Go, yeah.
- 19:43(laughing)
- 19:44- Okay.
- 19:45Back to peace.
- 19:46- Back to Atargatis.
- 19:47- Yes.
- 19:48- She fell in love with his regular human man's
- 19:51and they end up having a daughter together.
- 19:53- Okay.
- 19:54- More fertility.
- 19:55- For color. - For color.
- 19:56- For color.
- 19:57- The myth sort of flip-flops here.
- 20:00One story says that her lovemaking was so powerful
- 20:05that she ends up accidentally killing her love.
- 20:08- Oh shit.
- 20:10Like in the, oh my gosh, that Amazon show, The Boys.
- 20:14- Oh, yeah.
- 20:15- I haven't seen it, spoiler alert.
- 20:16- Oh, well, listen, they're on like season four now.
- 20:19- I knew what I was literally gonna watch that.
- 20:21You totally just wanted that for me.
- 20:23- Yeah, we're gonna pick it up.
- 20:25- I won't remember.
- 20:26- No, you won't.
- 20:27It only pertains to like one episode.
- 20:29- Okay.
- 20:30- Yeah.
- 20:31- And you won't see it coming.
- 20:31- Okay, good.
- 20:33- I mean, she is a goddess, you know,
- 20:36and he's just like some regular dude.
- 20:39So, he just wasn't enough, you know?
- 20:43(laughing)
- 20:44- Oh my god, that's amazing.
- 20:46Bring it back.
- 20:47I'm just kidding.
- 20:50So good.
- 20:52Such a good movie.
- 20:53- It's really just my favorite.
- 20:54- Can we re-watch that?
- 20:56- All day.
- 20:57- Yeah.
- 20:58- Yeah.
- 20:59- Okay.
- 21:00- We have to see John Cena.
- 21:01That was a mermaid.
- 21:02- Yeah.
- 21:02- Mermaids.
- 21:03- It's a very serious role.
- 21:05(laughing)
- 21:06- Just pause it on that.
- 21:07We're just like a little bit
- 21:08'cause he's in it really a second.
- 21:09(laughing)
- 21:10- Yeah.
- 21:11(laughing)
- 21:13But, Atargatis was understandably so devastated
- 21:17that she took to the water intending to live out her life
- 21:21as an ugly fish.
- 21:22She just wanted to be a pout, pout fish
- 21:26with a pout, pout face spreading.
- 21:28- spreading the dreary-wearies all over the place!
- 21:31- Oh my goodness.
- 21:32- That's from a kid's book.
- 21:33I was a nanny.
- 21:33I apologize.
- 21:34- Yeah, I was like, um.
- 21:36- Sorry, not sorry.
- 21:37- Was it like, is that from Finding Nemo or?
- 21:40- That was really good.
- 21:41You should write a children's book.
- 21:43- Yeah.
- 21:43(laughing)
- 21:45- Also in another version, the reason for her watery escape
- 21:49was because she was ashamed about having a child
- 21:53with a mortal.
- 21:54- Oh.
- 21:55- So I don't know, the first version of the story is sad,
- 21:59but this one just breaks my heart a little bit.
- 22:02So I prefer the first.
- 22:04- Oh no, maybe figure your life out, you know.
- 22:06- Don't be ashamed to your kids.
- 22:08It's not there.
- 22:08They didn't do any of it.
- 22:09- You're the one with scale.
- 22:10- Your choice is.
- 22:11- Yeah.
- 22:12- Fins, jerf.
- 22:14- Especially because her daughter becomes the queen
- 22:16of Syria later.
- 22:18- Oh shit.
- 22:19- Yeah.
- 22:20- So there's really nothing to be ashamed about.
- 22:22- Seriously, she's like, what of?
- 22:25- Some queen material, okay.
- 22:26Just over here, crushing it, even though my mom's like,
- 22:29not that proud of me, whatever.
- 22:31Hopefully that's not true.
- 22:32Hopefully she was sad about killing her lover,
- 22:36doing sex.
- 22:37In any case, she was apparently too beautiful today.
- 22:42So she turned into a sea creature,
- 22:44human top, fish bottom, aka mermaid.
- 22:48Okay.
- 22:49So she went to kill herself in the sea
- 22:50and she just turned into a mermaid
- 22:52because the sea was like, you too beautiful girl.
- 22:55- Wow.
- 22:56- We're not killing you today.
- 22:58- All right.
- 22:59- We're just gonna give you gills n' fins.
- 23:01(laughing)
- 23:02- Like, that's not up to you.
- 23:04You creepy, ominous body of water.
- 23:09- I just love, I love myths.
- 23:11- There's a lot. - Yeah.
- 23:12- Very interesting.
- 23:14Okay.
- 23:14We're going to flow with a different current now.
- 23:18In 2012, a documentary was released
- 23:22in the US on Animal Planet.
- 23:24It was called Mermaids: The Body Found.
- 23:29As the title suggests,
- 23:32they're investigating the existence of mermaids.
- 23:35- Okay.
- 23:36- The first thing that inspired this documentary
- 23:39was the bloop, the bloop,
- 23:42a previously unexplained sound recorded under water
- 23:45by scientists in 1997.
- 23:48Okay.
- 23:49So, I want you to pull up the clip of the bloop, the bloop.
- 23:53- Oh yeah, there we go.
- 23:54Listen to the bloop.
- 23:56Don't mind if I do.
- 23:57- It's blue.
- 23:58- I feel like there's a lot of bloops in the ocean,
- 24:01you know?
- 24:02Bloops and fish poops.
- 24:05- I don't think bloops.
- 24:06- It literally goes bloop.
- 24:08(laughing)
- 24:10- So at the end of the documentary,
- 24:12they end up finding their own bloops.
- 24:15And long story short, they think the bloopities
- 24:18are sound made from mermaids communicating underwater.
- 24:22- That's how they communicate with farts?
- 24:25- Yeah, that's literally.
- 24:28- To mermaids, to fish fart?
- 24:29To fish a, I mean, they poop.
- 24:33They're buttholes.
- 24:34Do they fart?
- 24:35Somebody let us know with fish farts.
- 24:38- She's Google-ing it.
- 24:39(laughing)
- 24:41- This is so weird.
- 24:42The answer is weird.
- 24:44It's a little, I don't know.
- 24:46- It's not a answer, no?
- 24:47- It's not a, yeah, okay.
- 24:49So if you consider farting to be the byproduct
- 24:52of digestion in parentheses, guesses,
- 24:57expelled solely through the rear end,
- 24:59then no, most fish don't fart.
- 25:02But apparently they, it seems like,
- 25:07it seems like yes, they fart,
- 25:10but maybe not in a way that we think of it.
- 25:13- Do they fart out their mouth?
- 25:14Is that what the bubbles come from?
- 25:15They go bloop, bloop, bloop,
- 25:17from their mouth?
- 25:19- Listen to this, that's okay.
- 25:20So I was reading just the portion of it
- 25:23that I could see in the Google preview.
- 25:25So I click the link and it says,
- 25:27"Most fish don't fart with the exception
- 25:31"of herring and sand sharks."
- 25:35Apparently they fart.
- 25:36- Herring and sand sharks.
- 25:41- Uh-huh, see it sharks fart?
- 25:43- I guess so.
- 25:44- That is a really fun shark fact
- 25:46that you're never gonna forget.
- 25:48- No.
- 25:49- And we're gonna share with everyone
- 25:50who shows a little bit of interest in sharks.
- 25:53- That is so weird.
- 25:55- Sharks are in this episode too.
- 25:57- I'm really good.
- 25:58I'm going down a rabbit hole with this.
- 26:00- Okay.
- 26:01- Get out of your rabbit hole, we gotta finish.
- 26:02- Yeah, I found a university of Maryland,
- 26:05quote, on the fish farting and,
- 26:08- Okay, read it.
- 26:09- They say, "No one knows for sure
- 26:11"what purpose farting serves in any fish."
- 26:14- Well, I just got to wish.
- 26:19- The wildlife is really fucking mysterious.
- 26:22- Yeah.
- 26:23(whooshing)
- 26:25- You guys, we have something really exciting to share with you.
- 26:28- Let's hear a few words from our new pod besties.
- 26:32- Hi, I'm Shaun.
- 26:33- And I'm John.
- 26:34- We're the hosts of Sins and Survivors,
- 26:36a Las Vegas True Crime podcast.
- 26:38Each week we cover important true crime stories
- 26:41from Nevada, focusing on the Las Vegas area.
- 26:43We cover current cases in the news,
- 26:45as well as cold cases and missing persons,
- 26:48but there's a twist.
- 26:50- Our focus is primarily on crimes
- 26:51with a domestic violence component.
- 26:53Sins and survivors is centered on the victims
- 26:56and the families they leave behind.
- 26:57Our goal is not only to tell the stories,
- 26:59but also provide victims with resources
- 27:02to help in their own lives.
- 27:03- We're focused on Las Vegas,
- 27:05but as we'll remind you in every episode,
- 27:08what happens here happens everywhere.
- 27:10So listen now wherever you get your podcasts
- 27:13or just visit Sins and Survivors.com.
- 27:15- Check them out, creepy people.
- 27:18You can find their info in our show notes.
- 27:20- Okay, back to this documentary.
- 27:24They go on to explain how mermaids could exist
- 27:29using the aquatic ape theory,
- 27:32which in the absolute simplest terms,
- 27:35I'm not gonna deep dive on the aquatic apes,
- 27:37but it is that some of us evolved into sea humans
- 27:41instead of land humans, basically.
- 27:43- Okay, great.
- 27:44They feature a NOAA scientist really legitimizing things
- 27:49'cause Noah stands for National Oceanic
- 27:53and Atmospheric Administration.
- 27:55- Yeah. - Is real.
- 27:57- That makes me a little nervous though.
- 27:59Like I mean, I don't know.
- 28:02- It's a real thing.
- 28:02NOAA's a real thing.
- 28:03- Noah's for sure. - NOAA's for sure, legit.
- 28:05- Yeah. - So this is legit, you know?
- 28:07How out of context are they gonna quote this person
- 28:11to make it fit their documentary?
- 28:12- Oh, it wasn't out of context.
- 28:14He was in the documentary.
- 28:15He was their expert.
- 28:18- Okay. - Yeah.
- 28:20- Right.
- 28:21- Throughout the documentary,
- 28:22they go over all kinds of historical, scientific video
- 28:27and even physical evidence.
- 28:29I mean, it's called the body found, right?
- 28:32So like they have a body assume, assume,
- 28:36- Presumably. - Presumably.
- 28:37- Assumably.
- 28:39Assumably. - I meant presumably,
- 28:41but Assumably. - But Assumably, sounds cooler.
- 28:42- This is our apology and making up words podcast.
- 28:46And then every time that we make up a new word,
- 28:49we laugh at it and then apologize.
- 28:51- Every time we make up a new word, you have to drink.
- 28:54(laughing)
- 28:55- Oh my God, people will die.
- 28:57- I know. - Long with Caitlyn saying,
- 28:58"No, no, no, no."
- 29:01- Okay, so as I've learned from the Mel's Hole episode,
- 29:05I need to give a trigger warning for violence towards sharks.
- 29:10- Oh.
- 29:12- Told you there were sharks in this episode.
- 29:14- Yeah.
- 29:15- So the team found a dead shark
- 29:18with a peculiar spear hole in it.
- 29:22They say it's from a weapon made out
- 29:25of a steam raised hail thing of a bob.
- 29:28I don't know what it's called,
- 29:29thing of a bob, really.
- 29:30(laughing)
- 29:32- I just can't help myself, would I?
- 29:34- I mean, clearly.
- 29:35(laughing)
- 29:37- Who's it?
- 29:38- Who's it?
- 29:38- Yeah, that's right.
- 29:39- Who's it and what's it?
- 29:41- But, oh, well wait, there's more.
- 29:44- More, yes.
- 29:45- They also find bones inside the shark's belly.
- 29:50They are able to identify some pretty human looking parts.
- 29:55- Oh, yeah.
- 29:56Like something close to human anyway.
- 29:59- No thanks.
- 30:00- Like maybe a mermaid.
- 30:01- Like, yeah.
- 30:03- Adding wind to their sails,
- 30:05they disclose a cell phone video
- 30:07with a found footage vibe.
- 30:10It showed some kids on a Washington beach
- 30:12that found a bunch of dead whales.
- 30:15And this is like a whole other thing in the documentary.
- 30:17Basically, they claim it's from the military testing
- 30:20Sonar or weapons.
- 30:21- Oh no.
- 30:22- But that's not even the weird part of this video.
- 30:26- Oh, okay.
- 30:27- Amongst these whales,
- 30:28there is the body of what appears to be a mermaid.
- 30:32I'm gonna have you watch it.
- 30:33There is a jump scare at the end,
- 30:34which is why I'm ruining it for you.
- 30:36- I'm already sweating.
- 30:38I'm telling you, there's a jump scare.
- 30:40So don't like, it's still going away.
- 30:43- You see the whales and the kids?
- 30:46- Yeah.
- 30:46This definitely looks like found footage, right?
- 30:49- Yeah.
- 30:50- Totally.
- 30:51Not at all like Cloverfield.
- 30:53Definitely from a cell phone.
- 30:56A 20, like, 2012 cell phone.
- 30:59- Yeah.
- 31:00- Two early 2000s.
- 31:01- Ew, ew, ew.
- 31:02- No, no, no, no.
- 31:04- She's just a mermaid.
- 31:05- Can you describe it for us?
- 31:10(screams)
- 31:11- I told you there's jump scare.
- 31:13I know, but I didn't know when it was gonna happen, so.
- 31:17And I saw her fingers move and then I thought that was it.
- 31:21I thought maybe that was the jump scare.
- 31:23- She had like teeth, right?
- 31:25Like jaggedy teeth or am I making this up?
- 31:29- No, I think she did.
- 31:31(gasps)
- 31:32- Okay.
- 31:33- I do both of the face.
- 31:36- Yeah.
- 31:37I mean, it's really blurry, so it's really hard to tell.
- 31:41What it is you're seeing, but everything that you can make out
- 31:44is not gonna lie, it's pretty horrifying.
- 31:48- Yeah, some more like a Zimbabwe mermaid, like a meme.
- 31:54Like, I, yeah.
- 31:58I mean, it looks like basically in this section
- 32:01of the phone footage that this teenager
- 32:06and maybe his buddy who's off camera,
- 32:09like come onto the beach and they see all the whales
- 32:12and everything, and then they see kind of like,
- 32:15it honestly just looks like a pile of like rubbage
- 32:18or something, and he goes up to whatever this is
- 32:22and like it's kind of like poking at it.
- 32:24And then all of a sudden you see like fingers moving,
- 32:29and I was like, oh, maybe that's the part
- 32:31that's supposed to jump scare me
- 32:32'cause like I wasn't expecting that.
- 32:34No, no, that's not it.
- 32:36- That's not the jump scare.
- 32:38- Okay.
- 32:39- Yeah, 'cause that would be stupid.
- 32:42Who would even think that's the jump scare?
- 32:43- I should have put the time in there, sorry.
- 32:45- I thought it was gonna be plenty of warning
- 32:47about those jump scare kind of.
- 32:49- No, I should have known that that wasn't gonna be
- 32:51the jump scare, but I was like,
- 32:53oh, that was so scary, your fingers made.
- 32:56- When she jumps up and was like screaming in this place,
- 32:58it's based on whether pre-be siren scream
- 33:02and, yeah, it's not kind of covered that.
- 33:06- Yeah, you did a great job, thank you.
- 33:08'Cause I didn't pull it up 'cause I've seen it.
- 33:10(gasps)
- 33:11I was intense.
- 33:12- So at the end of this documentary,
- 33:14they claim that the government came
- 33:15and took all their evidence except for the kid's cell phone video.
- 33:18Okay.
- 33:20They had a website, believeinmermades.com.
- 33:23And if you visited this website,
- 33:27it had a government alert that popped up,
- 33:29saying, "US Department of Justice and Homeland Security
- 33:32has seized to the site."
- 33:35And, simulating, this is a federal cover-up.
- 33:37Okay.
- 33:40The site no longer exists today, unfortunately.
- 33:44- What?
- 33:44- I know.
- 33:46The government took it.
- 33:47Oh, right, right, right, right.
- 33:48If the government was taking a site,
- 33:50why would they put up a screen alert?
- 33:52- They would just take it.
- 33:53- I think, yeah.
- 33:54- I think they just erased from history.
- 33:56- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:58After many people watched this documentary,
- 34:01as it was presented as factual with scientists and evidence
- 34:05and everything, animal planet emits,
- 34:09this is nearly a speculative documentary,
- 34:13saying, quote, "The film is science fiction
- 34:15using science as a springboard into imagination."
- 34:19- I'll say.
- 34:21Yeah, I think that's putting it rather mildly,
- 34:23if I'm being honest.
- 34:25- There is also a quote from Noah.
- 34:28- Great.
- 34:29I can't wait.
- 34:30- No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found.
- 34:34- What?
- 34:35- To have put that in there.
- 34:36- To science.
- 34:37- Just stating all, I'm bringing all of the evidence here.
- 34:40Okay.
- 34:40- Toads.
- 34:41- There was a not very obvious disclaimer
- 34:46at the end of the documentary.
- 34:48- Okay, most people missed stating that some of the evidence
- 34:53were fictional.
- 34:55- What?
- 34:55- Some.
- 34:56(laughing)
- 34:57- Try like 95%.
- 34:59And it's like a tiny writing, too.
- 35:04- Yeah, yeah.
- 35:05- All right.
- 35:07- It's just ridiculous, so.
- 35:07- Yeah.
- 35:08- It wasn't just that they faked some videos with CGI.
- 35:13Obviously, the cell phone video was not
- 35:15from an early 2000s phone.
- 35:17- No.
- 35:18- It was literally in cinematic proportions
- 35:22or whatever it's called ratio.
- 35:24- Right.
- 35:25- So it was like the quality was too good.
- 35:27- Yeah, it was perfectly pixelated.
- 35:30- Yeah.
- 35:31- It really does remind me of parts of Cloverfield.
- 35:35- Yeah.
- 35:36- Yeah.
- 35:36- And I was like, all right.
- 35:37- And cell phone videos back then,
- 35:39they were pretty, it was mostly just photos.
- 35:42I don't think videos were a super huge thing,
- 35:44but they were not.
- 35:45- I think it was a terrible quality.
- 35:47- Yeah.
- 35:48- Yeah.
- 35:49- So it's pretty funny.
- 35:50You can still watch that.
- 35:50Obviously, Kate would just watch it,
- 35:52so we'll link it.
- 35:53- Sure did.
- 35:54- It's fun.
- 35:55- So not only that fake video,
- 35:59they faked historical facts and used actors as scientists.
- 36:03They misused scientific theories,
- 36:06like the aquatic ape theory,
- 36:08just that their own completely made up theories.
- 36:11- Okay.
- 36:11- I'm sorry, they're scientific springboard
- 36:14into imagination.
- 36:17- All right.
- 36:18Also, I wanna say I wasn't able to watch
- 36:22this whole documentary.
- 36:23I didn't wanna like pay for it.
- 36:24So I found some clips on YouTube
- 36:27and I got most of my info from the unbelievers podcast.
- 36:31They do a hilarious deep dive review of the entire thing.
- 36:35It's really good and really funny.
- 36:37So you should listen to that.
- 36:38- That sounds, yeah.
- 36:40That'll be listening to that.
- 36:42- That.
- 36:43- In May 2013, Animal Planet aired an extended cut
- 36:48of Mermaids, the body found,
- 36:50and a sequel to the speculative documentary, Mermaids,
- 36:55new evidence.
- 36:57- Oh.
- 36:58- In this one for Monsters Week.
- 37:01- Okay.
- 37:02- It was, at least in 2013,
- 37:04the most watched telecast on Animal Planet.
- 37:08- Wow.
- 37:08- Wow.
- 37:09- Even after the scandal.
- 37:13- That's, okay, I'm sorry.
- 37:15There's more of this, like significantly more.
- 37:19- There's more.
- 37:20I just,
- 37:21- I know.
- 37:22I don't know anything about the second one,
- 37:23but over the extended,
- 37:24but like I kind of wanna see what it's all about, you know?
- 37:28- Yeah.
- 37:29Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna lie.
- 37:30I'm tempted.
- 37:32- Okay, now I know what you're thinking.
- 37:34But Cassie, what about the blue?
- 37:39- Oh, yes, I was thinking that.
- 37:42'Cause that is real.
- 37:44That is hard evidence, this blue.
- 37:47- I don't even know what to believe anymore.
- 37:49(laughs)
- 37:50- As it turns out, back in 2005,
- 37:54which I think this documentary was 2012.
- 37:58- Okay.
- 37:59- 2005.
- 38:01- Real Noah scientist had already figured out
- 38:03that the sound recorded was just a big old glacier fart.
- 38:08- Wow, it's a fart.
- 38:11- So it was a fart after all.
- 38:13(laughs)
- 38:14We were not wrong.
- 38:15- Okay.
- 38:16- Well.
- 38:17- Okay, like that's not the technical term for it.
- 38:20- It's a matter of.
- 38:21- I mean, they call them ice quakes
- 38:24when an iceberg cracks and breaks away from the glacier.
- 38:28It causes, you know, bubbles that go,
- 38:30(blows raspberry)
- 38:31I mean, first of all, not very descriptive.
- 38:35Second of all, not at all amusing or humorous.
- 38:38- I know, like ice quakes, glacier farts.
- 38:41- Yeah.
- 38:42- Same thing, which one sounds better coming out of your mouth.
- 38:44- Obviously, one of them is better.
- 38:46- Yeah.
- 38:47Farts.
- 38:48- You be the judge.
- 38:49(laughs)
- 38:50- 'Cause we're 12.
- 38:51- Even though unfortunately,
- 38:54this documentary's speculative documentary
- 38:56ended up being fake,
- 38:58with water being 71% of our planet
- 39:01and not quite 25% of that sea floor is mapped.
- 39:05And only 5% actually explored.
- 39:08- Mm-hmm.
- 39:10Who knows what could be lurking in the deep blue?
- 39:16- We're still here to believe in mermaids.
- 39:18- Yeah.
- 39:19- I'm sure it's all like totally chill stuff down there.
- 39:22- Yes.
- 39:24- Well, because mermaids are real.
- 39:26They are.
- 39:27There is even a mermaid museum near Aberdeen.
- 39:30- Ooh.
- 39:31- Washington.
- 39:33The nonprofit International Mermaid Museum is open daily
- 39:37with extremely reasonable admission rates.
- 39:40- Okay.
- 39:41- The museum is, quote, dedicated to teaching ocean ecology
- 39:45from the sea shore to sea floor,
- 39:47immersed in mermaid mythology,
- 39:48unifying oceanic cultures.
- 39:51- Love it.
- 39:53- So if you'd like to contribute to the museum,
- 39:55you can donate mermaid memorabilia
- 39:58and marine life artifacts
- 40:00or donate a brick or a bench.
- 40:03- Ooh.
- 40:04- Links are in the episode description.
- 40:06There is also a mermaid festival, April 12th through April 19th,
- 40:102025.
- 40:11So next year we miss this year's, it was in April.
- 40:13- So damn it.
- 40:14- Next year, though, we can go.
- 40:16And it has, this is at the museum.
- 40:19It has the Northwest famous Una, the mermaid.
- 40:24- Ooh.
- 40:25- She'll be performing underwater in her tank every day.
- 40:28I actually saw her tank, I realized,
- 40:30when I went to St. Helens for Halloween town,
- 40:32she was there.
- 40:33- Yeah.
- 40:34- Oh, that's fun.
- 40:34- So I have like a picture of her tank.
- 40:36It has a tarp over it and you can just see like mermaid
- 40:39underneath it.
- 40:40You can see the moon apart.
- 40:40And I was just scared to like peep behind the curtain
- 40:44'cause I'm a sucker for like rules.
- 40:46And I don't want to get in trouble by touching things,
- 40:49but no touching.
- 40:51- I know, unfortunately I went like during the day
- 40:53on a weekday, so they're where, yeah.
- 40:55That was down by the water.
- 40:56I think they have like a little festival area.
- 40:59- Yeah.
- 41:00- That sounds like cool.
- 41:01- I know, we should go one time at night.
- 41:03- Cool.
- 41:04- And they are show.
- 41:04- I want to see Una, she's so cool.
- 41:06- Cool.
- 41:07- Okay, I told you I'd bring this back.
- 41:10A gathering of mermaids can be called a gossip.
- 41:13- Ooh.
- 41:14- I thought that was funny too
- 41:15'cause we just did our little podcast astrology birth chart.
- 41:20- Oh yeah.
- 41:21- And we were talking about like we were Gemini
- 41:23and we were all about like gossiping
- 41:26and we were also talking about like good gossip
- 41:29and bad gossip.
- 41:30- Yeah.
- 41:31- And I was listening to a podcast the other day
- 41:33that was like you know, like there is a difference
- 41:36between there is good gossip and there is bad gossip
- 41:39and I'm like we were debating that.
- 41:41- Yeah.
- 41:42- Yeah.
- 41:43- Yeah.
- 41:43- And then I was listening to this other podcast
- 41:46and they were saying that gossip was only made to be,
- 41:50like have a bad connotation because it was like women
- 41:53doing the gossiping about men in the patriarchy.
- 41:56So you know, we need to take back the gossip.
- 41:58It's not, if it's not mean spirited,
- 42:01it's fine.
- 42:02And it can still be called gossip
- 42:03without the negative connotation.
- 42:05- Yeah.
- 42:06- Also mermaids.
- 42:07But more often a group of mermaids is called a pod.
- 42:11- Ooh.
- 42:12- And the Pacific Northwest has several pods.
- 42:16Merfolk include all genders and body types.
- 42:20Some people enjoy mermaiding for exercise
- 42:24as a hobby, a side or a full-time hustle.
- 42:27- Hey, hey.
- 42:28Some go to schools and retreats to learn how to mermaid
- 42:32and even have custom costumes made,
- 42:34like gorgeous costumes made.
- 42:36But there's no need for fancy tales to join.
- 42:41Even if you just wanna wear a mermaid t-shirt,
- 42:43stay on land, sip a cocktail.
- 42:47- I'm in sale.
- 42:48- They're open to all.
- 42:50- Portlandia mermaid parade and festival
- 42:54is Saturday, July 27th this year.
- 42:56- Oh my God.
- 42:58- Yes, they also have a sirens ball
- 43:00as a fundraiser gallop on the parade on the 20th.
- 43:04- Yeah.
- 43:05So Una, the mermaid, remember her.
- 43:07She actually started this.
- 43:09So she started the parade and the pod that's in Portland.
- 43:12- That's so cool.
- 43:13- And you can find her on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.
- 43:17She's a website, we'll link the website for you.
- 43:19- No worries.
- 43:20- Okay, so I told you earlier,
- 43:21I'd make up for the gender stereotyping.
- 43:24- I mean, it's about time.
- 43:25- I'm doing it.
- 43:26- I'm fixing it.
- 43:27- Justice for Mermen.
- 43:28- I'm trying, Mermaid folk.
- 43:31(laughing)
- 43:32So the mermaid is used as a symbol for Mermaid's UK,
- 43:35which is a transgender youth network and charity.
- 43:39They support children and young people
- 43:42who are transgender or gender diverse.
- 43:45Love it.
- 43:46And this is a quote from their website.
- 43:49Over the years, we've seen many changes in the language
- 43:52and understanding surrounding gender issues.
- 43:54But one thing remains the same.
- 43:56Transgender, non-binary and gender diverse children
- 44:00deserve the freedom and confidence to-
- 44:02I'm gonna cry.
- 44:04- Oh my God.
- 44:05'Cause it's like so obvious
- 44:08and people are ridiculous.
- 44:09Okay, sorry.
- 44:10- We have it just like people are trash.
- 44:11- I didn't think I was gonna cry.
- 44:13The mermaid episode.
- 44:14So these children deserve the freedom and confidence
- 44:18to explore their gender identity.
- 44:20Wherever their journey takes them,
- 44:22free from fear, isolation and discrimination.
- 44:27(baby crying)
- 44:29- Look at me.
- 44:29- Oh my God.
- 44:30- Oh my God.
- 44:32- Yeah, so I told you I'd fix it.
- 44:34- Oh.
- 44:36- Also, I think,
- 44:37You can call them Mermaid,
- 44:39you can call them Mermen,
- 44:40call them Merfolk, whatever you want.
- 44:42- Merpeople.
- 44:43- Yeah.
- 44:44There's no discrimination, there's no rules.
- 44:48You can be whoever you wanna be.
- 44:49- I love it.
- 44:50- Yeah, so if you're struggling with that,
- 44:54consider joining a mermaid pod.
- 44:56'Cause they got you.
- 44:58- Yeah, 'cause like, fuck yeah.
- 45:00- Yeah, yeah.
- 45:02- So we did have a question in the Patreon Live
- 45:05'cause we were giving away a mermaid postcard.
- 45:08- Right.
- 45:08- From the peculiarium.
- 45:10- Yes.
- 45:11- So we're not gonna give anything away this time,
- 45:12but the question was,
- 45:14what animal skeleton is often mistaken
- 45:17to be the bones of a mermaid?
- 45:19Do you remember the answer?
- 45:20- Does it manatee?
- 45:21- Yeah, it's a manatee!
- 45:22- Oh, yeah.
- 45:23- But we're not giving anything away this time.
- 45:25- Yeah, I mean, anyways.
- 45:28I think it often said like the stellar sea cow or something...
- 45:30Are they the same thing as stellar sea cow and a manatee?
- 45:34Manatee?
- 45:35I think they're similar anyway.
- 45:39- Yeah, I mean, as a marine biology expert, yes.
- 45:44They're the same.
- 45:45- Yep.
- 45:46- Once I was reading,
- 45:48said if mermaids were real,
- 45:49they would likely be like fat and hairy,
- 45:51like have blubber and be hairy.
- 45:53- Okay.
- 45:55- Like a manatee or something.
- 45:57And instead of picturing like a sea lion,
- 46:00which I'm sure is like kind of more what they meant.
- 46:04I pictured like a big foot mermaid hybrid.
- 46:08- Oh my God.
- 46:09Wait, did that be like a Bigmaid or a Merfoot?
- 46:15We'll workshop it.
- 46:18- Okay.
- 46:19- Let's go to the tarot.
- 46:21We'll workshops the big made Merfoot thing.
- 46:24(laughs)
- 46:25- Yeah, like Merfoot better, Bigmaid I dont know.
- 46:28- Bigmaid.
- 46:29- Yeah.
- 46:30- Almost kind of fun.
- 46:32- Yeah.
- 46:33- Love it.
- 46:34- All right, let's do some mermaid tarot.
- 46:36- Do it.
- 46:38- Okay.
- 46:39- Tarot.
- 46:40(Tarot whistling)
- 46:43(Tarot whistling)
- 46:44- Okay, we are drawing tarot for a mermaid episode
- 46:48from Caitlyn's Oceanic Tarot Deck,
- 46:52which, you know it has mermaids on it.
- 46:55- Doves.
- 46:56- Who got that for her?
- 46:57- Me.
- 47:00(laughs)
- 47:01- Oh.
- 47:02- Is that a mermaid?
- 47:05I mean, I know it's the oceanic deck, but it's still.
- 47:09Okay, so joke's on me.
- 47:13We got a merman.
- 47:14(laughs)
- 47:16- Oh, I love that.
- 47:18- Hey, hey.
- 47:20- I mean, it could be either, really.
- 47:22Like we said, you can be whatever you want,
- 47:24but it definitely presents as a male chest
- 47:28is what I'm trying to say.
- 47:29- Yeah.
- 47:30- I mean, I think that's fair, that's accurate.
- 47:32- So it is the world card.
- 47:34- Oh wow.
- 47:36- And on this card it says regeneration,
- 47:39which is interesting because it was all about like,
- 47:41oceanic preservation, pollution.
- 47:45- Yeah.
- 47:45- Like that's what the whole museum
- 47:48was really about, so that was kind of interesting.
- 47:51So we need to regenerate our oceans, you guys.
- 47:54- I like it.
- 47:55- Save the mermaids.
- 47:56- Okay.
- 47:57- And did we draw that up, right?
- 47:59- Oh, I'm sorry, it was in the reverse.
- 48:01- Oh, it was reverse, yeah.
- 48:02- It was reverse, okay.
- 48:03Okay, key words for the world.
- 48:06fulfillment, completion, achievement, mastery, and wholeness.
- 48:15The world represents the end of the fool's journey.
- 48:19You've tracked down an arduous path of awakening
- 48:23and finally reached your destination.
- 48:26In many decks, the world card shows a young woman
- 48:29sometimes nude holding a double ended wand.
- 48:33- Oh, okay, I got a wand.
- 48:36- I got a wand.
- 48:37- The point's both upward and downward suggesting,
- 48:42as above so below.
- 48:46In the Rider Weight Smith deck,
- 48:48the woman is encircled by a wreath, signifying victory,
- 48:52bound at the top and bottom by ribbons
- 48:56that call to mind the infinity symbol.
- 48:59- Oh, it does.
- 49:00- Oh, okay.
- 49:01- In this card, he's surrounded by fish.
- 49:03Like a wreath of fish.
- 49:05- Yeah.
- 49:06She's dancing and as Isadora Duncan believed,
- 49:11one truly lives only when one dances.
- 49:15- All or swims.
- 49:16- Swims.
- 49:17- That was like kind of one of the things
- 49:20why people do like the mermaid thing
- 49:22'cause it's like so peaceful and quiet underwater
- 49:24and like you just can move your body in different ways.
- 49:27Obviously you can't own land, you know?
- 49:29- I could totally see that.
- 49:31- Yeah.
- 49:32- That's so cool.
- 49:32- I like it.
- 49:33- I've never seen like a mermaid show, you know?
- 49:36I've never seen like someone being a mermaid.
- 49:39I wanna see it.
- 49:40- Oh, someone needs to get on that.
- 49:42- Oh, no, we're coming for ya.
- 49:44- Four figures in the corner signify
- 49:47the four elements via zodiac imagery.
- 49:51The world represents fulfillment.
- 49:53All is right with the world.
- 49:55You've faced your dark side and honored your beauty.
- 49:59- Ooh, very fitting.
- 50:00- Yes.
- 50:01I think of this as the congratulations card.
- 50:05The last card of the major arcana,
- 50:08it indicates fulfillment, achievement, balance and wholeness,
- 50:13the completion of the journey from innocence to enlightenment.
- 50:17- Oh, okay.
- 50:18So balancing is interesting 'cause it's like,
- 50:21it's a half fish, half person.
- 50:22- Like, you know?
- 50:23- Yeah.
- 50:24That is an interesting, huh?
- 50:27I didn't even think about it, but I didn't think of that at all.
- 50:30There's an extra excerpt and it's about a goddess.
- 50:34I literally went to go and grab the oceanic deck
- 50:38was looking at my goddess Oracle.
- 50:40And I don't know why, but I sat there for like a full minute
- 50:43summing through looking at the cards.
- 50:45Was Adder goddess in there?
- 50:48I don't know.
- 50:49And this one is actually talking about a different goddess.
- 50:51So, but yeah, that was just interesting.
- 50:54I was feeling drawn to it.
- 50:56Okay, so let's get to our reversed interpretation.
- 51:01Many choices are presented to you,
- 51:04but you don't know which way to go.
- 51:07Perhaps an obstacle still stands in the way of your success.
- 51:11Things may get stuck regardless of all your hard work
- 51:16and you'll just have to wait until matters right themselves.
- 51:21- It's kind of like, you know, fixing the ocean.
- 51:23You can't really do anything about it.
- 51:24You just have to wait until people get their heads
- 51:26out of their butts and stop polluting the ocean.
- 51:29- Get your heads out of your butts
- 51:30and turtle heads out of those plastic ring thingies, you know?
- 51:36I was talking about cousin yesterday
- 51:39and we were talking about like, straws, you know,
- 51:41how they, and we're at this bar and the straws were noodles
- 51:45'cause they didn't have, they got their straws taken away.
- 51:48- Oh.
- 51:49- We talked about, I don't know if it was this place
- 51:50or another place got their straws taken away.
- 51:53And I was like, was it like the straw police come?
- 51:56It's like a bunch of turtles and like,
- 51:58swat uniforms.
- 51:59(laughs)
- 52:00Taking the straws.
- 52:01- That's a hilarious and kind of adorable visual.
- 52:06- It is.
- 52:07- I love it.
- 52:08- I know.
- 52:08- I also have pictures of me drinking out of a giant noodle
- 52:10if anyone wants it.
- 52:11- Well, yeah, obviously we need to share those
- 52:14in a certain photo here.
- 52:16- Taylor.
- 52:17- Oh my goodness.
- 52:18- Maybe the end result doesn't live up to your expectations.
- 52:23Sometimes you may be required to go back
- 52:25and do more work on something you thought you'd finished.
- 52:29Oh, almost like this episode.
- 52:32- Oh.
- 52:33- Yeah.
- 52:33- It was complete the first and we're all just to be clear.
- 52:36Or the rewards you receive are of a private personal kind
- 52:41rather than worldly success.
- 52:43- I don't know about that.
- 52:46- So if you meet a mermaid, they're gonna reward you.
- 52:49- I don't know.
- 52:50- I don't know.
- 52:51- I'm not sure where we're going with this.
- 52:53Let's see.
- 52:53- They have treasure.
- 52:54- 'Cause there's treasure on the altar.
- 52:56- Yeah, treasure.
- 52:57- Treasure.
- 52:58- Treasure.
- 52:58- Okay.
- 53:01In a reading about money, you may need to wait a bit
- 53:03or work a little longer before you achieve
- 53:06your financial goals.
- 53:08Perhaps the compensation you receive
- 53:10is less than you'd expect.
- 53:12Sometimes this card shows you focusing on spiritual
- 53:17rather than material goals.
- 53:19- Oh, kinda like the dams.
- 53:22- They're like growing beer and stuff to a piece
- 53:24the mermaid's instead of fixing the dam.
- 53:30If the reading is about your job, the world reverse,
- 53:34reversed suggests you feel restricted, frustrated,
- 53:38or dissatisfied with your work situation.
- 53:41So maybe you should become a mermaid.
- 53:43- Exactly.
- 53:45Yeah, do what you love.
- 53:46- You thought you'd be further along by now,
- 53:49yet you still need to put in more effort.
- 53:53This card may also mean the end result
- 53:55isn't what you'd expected and you feel a letdown.
- 54:00- In a reading about love, a relationship
- 54:04may not have developed according to your plans.
- 54:07Despite your efforts, you still see areas that need work.
- 54:11Don't let frustration or inertia cause you to give up.
- 54:15- What if you're, oh sorry.
- 54:17- No, go ahead.
- 54:18- Happy your times may await just around the corner.
- 54:22- What if you like kill your lover
- 54:24from making love to him too hard?
- 54:27- Yeah, I'm guessing that she didn't see it working out that way.
- 54:32So there's that.
- 54:34I pose a lot of it for me.
- 54:37It's relating back to ocean conservation and stuff.
- 54:41That's really where it's getting me this card.
- 54:43Okay, there's actually two extra excerpts.
- 54:48This first one says, and this is a quote from a tarot manual.
- 54:54The world is a work of art, neither a mechanism,
- 54:58nor an organism, nor even a social community,
- 55:02neither a school on a grand scale, nor a pedagogical,
- 55:07yeah, I think that's right, nor a pedagogical,
- 55:12no, it's pedagogical, isn't it?
- 55:14- I don't know what that means.
- 55:16- Nor a pedagogical institution for living beings,
- 55:20but rather a work of divine art
- 55:23at one and the same time, a choreographic musical, poetic,
- 55:28dramatic work of painting, sculpture, and architecture.
- 55:32- Wow.
- 55:33- Just like the ocean is so beautiful down there.
- 55:37- Yeah, even though interesting.
- 55:39- Even the fact that this is like the world card,
- 55:42and it's like, I'm 70% of the world is water.
- 55:45- Yeah.
- 55:47- Wow.
- 55:48- Okay, I'm gonna read the goddess excerpt here.
- 55:51Shiva, God of creation, and destruction.
- 55:55- That's what I forgot to bring you guys.
- 55:57I forgot to bring my Shiva shell, my Shiva shell.
- 56:00- Which obviously would have been perfect for that.
- 56:02- Clearly we needed that for the altar.
- 56:05- Don't it?
- 56:05- The world card can be linked to Shiva,
- 56:10the Hindu God who dances the world into being
- 56:14and then destroys it.
- 56:16- Wow.
- 56:16- Only to again dance it into being
- 56:20in the eternal dance of life, death, and rebirth.
- 56:24- That's really cool.
- 56:25- Yeah.
- 56:26- I like how.
- 56:28- I didn't even know like, I don't know why it's called
- 56:31Shiva, I shall.
- 56:32Like what?
- 56:33- Yeah, I don't know.
- 56:33- 'Cause I didn't really have anything to do with the ocean,
- 56:35you know?
- 56:36- No, I don't think so.
- 56:38- It's interesting that like, yeah.
- 56:39The name Shiva is in there, and then I relate it
- 56:42to the ocean with my shell.
- 56:44- Yeah.
- 56:45- Interesting things.
- 56:46- Yeah.
- 56:47- Yeah.
- 56:48- All connected.
- 56:49- All connected.
- 56:50- It all circles back.
- 56:53- You got a little, what's that?
- 56:55Coral reef of connection.
- 56:58I don't know.
- 56:59- Oh yeah.
- 57:00- Yeah.
- 57:00- I feel like maybe coral reef, like,
- 57:04they all communicate to each other in the ocean
- 57:06the same way that like mushrooms and trees
- 57:08and other plants do here on land.
- 57:10- Mm-hmm.
- 57:11- It's connected.
- 57:13- Just a hat, right.
- 57:14- Well, should we open our gifts real quick?
- 57:17- Oh, yeah.
- 57:18- It's our birthday.
- 57:19So we just, you know,
- 57:20I was like, your presents.
- 57:22I was like, oh yeah.
- 57:23- But your presents too.
- 57:24- 'Cause we're gonna do our birthdays just in one episode.
- 57:27So we're not taking up 10 episodes with birthdays.
- 57:30- I mean, I know.
- 57:32- Oh.
- 57:33(laughs)
- 57:35- Okay, who should go first?
- 57:36- You go first.
- 57:37- Peace.
- 57:37- Yeah, it's like your actual birthday
- 57:39in a couple of days.
- 57:39- Okay.
- 57:40- (laughs)
- 57:44(crash)
- 57:45(laughs)
- 57:47- Should I read the card first?
- 57:48- Yeah.
- 57:49- I should have just pulled out the card.
- 57:50I'm struggling.
- 57:51- Yeah.
- 57:52- The struggle bus.
- 57:53- I saw her writing this card right before we started recording.
- 57:56(laughs)
- 57:57- Yeah, 'cause I found the card and I was like, oh shit.
- 57:59Like I didn't write anything.
- 58:01Why am I so dumb?
- 58:02- It's got astronauts on it.
- 58:08- I can't believe you say alien.
- 58:09- Alien, I know.
- 58:10- I know.
- 58:11- It's an astronaut.
- 58:12- I almost said aliens too.
- 58:13I'm like, it's aliens.
- 58:14- Let's get this party started.
- 58:16- Are we pink?
- 58:18- Let's pink, right?
- 58:20- Get the party started.
- 58:20- That's for a key.
- 58:22- Like from the black eyed piece.
- 58:24- Oh no.
- 58:25- Pink has a song, has that, yeah.
- 58:27Never mind.
- 58:28I guess there's more than one party.
- 58:29- I'm sure, yeah.
- 58:30- Like I'm pretty free.
- 58:31- Maybe for a guy who has said,
- 58:32get this party started at one point in a song.
- 58:35(laughs)
- 58:36- Let's get it started.
- 58:37- Right, let's get it started.
- 58:39Yeah.
- 58:40Do you want me to read this?
- 58:40Happy birthday to my co-host, BFF,
- 58:43a party or a cry.
- 58:45- Get it?
- 58:46- You got it.
- 58:47- You guys, you got it.
- 58:48- You're my PAC.
- 58:50You're my partner and creepy.
- 58:53(laughs)
- 58:53- In creeps.
- 58:54- Oh, I love that.
- 58:56- Partner and creeps.
- 58:57- In jerbs.
- 58:58- I didn't get hit on a card because I'm a monster.
- 59:02- I don't know.
- 59:03I just, I honestly stumbled upon that.
- 59:06- Is this the one I almost bought myself the other day?
- 59:08And I was like, I can't, I can't.
- 59:09- I think so.
- 59:11Yeah, I did the digital download for the book too.
- 59:15- Oh, cool.
- 59:16- Yeah, so I'll send you that.
- 59:18I almost just sent it to you
- 59:20'cause I was like, oh yeah, I got to send her the thing
- 59:22and then I was like, don't do that yet.
- 59:23- Maybe like, oh, why are you sending me this?
- 59:25I don't even have a dial.
- 59:26- What?
- 59:27(laughs)
- 59:28- Oh, it's a mushroom spirit or a cult act, by the way.
- 59:31- Yeah.
- 59:32- And I'm pretty sure, yeah, I was eyeballing that
- 59:33in "At Through the Veil"
- 59:35when I think we were getting tail in.
- 59:37- Yeah.
- 59:38- Something and I was like,
- 59:39"Eh, I should get this for myself."
- 59:41- Me too.
- 59:42- Don't need to do this.
- 59:44- Thank you.
- 59:45- Here's the welcome.
- 59:46- Mushroom.
- 59:47- We talked about mushrooms just a couple of seconds ago.
- 59:49- Oh, we sure did.
- 59:51And you just had, we just literally talked about mushrooms
- 59:54like "At length" in an episode.
- 59:57We reported the tree one.
- 59:58- It'll be, yeah.
- 1:00:00- Ooh.
- 1:00:01- What kind of rock is that?
- 1:00:04- I cannot remember.
- 1:00:05- I was like, what am I?
- 1:00:06- I was like, I'm gonna fucking idiot.
- 1:00:08It's a moor.
- 1:00:09- I saw that and I was like, no freaking way.
- 1:00:12- So pretty.
- 1:00:13I said, you guys, oh my god,
- 1:00:15I'm so sorry, the story is hilarious.
- 1:00:18I'm so sorry to tail in our video editor/socialmedia
- 1:00:23with social media like Queen.
- 1:00:28- Yep.
- 1:00:28- I was trying to think of something.
- 1:00:29- She's more than just the best.
- 1:00:33- She's all of the things.
- 1:00:35She's the glue holding this whole operation together.
- 1:00:38- Yeah, and I'm an asshole.
- 1:00:39And I didn't know that she's like,
- 1:00:40definitely afraid of moss and butterflies apparently.
- 1:00:45- I didn't know that either.
- 1:00:46And I said to picture of a moth in her text thread.
- 1:00:49And I was like, oh my god, look at this cute moth.
- 1:00:51And this was just like a couple of days ago.
- 1:00:53- Oh my god.
- 1:00:54- She's like, I'm gonna have a panic attack.
- 1:00:57And I was like, oh sorry.
- 1:00:58I'm so sorry.
- 1:01:00Oh no.
- 1:01:01Oh my god.
- 1:01:01But then she sent a picture of a spider
- 1:01:05and I felt better.
- 1:01:06I'm sorry and not a spider.
- 1:01:08- Not better about either of these things.
- 1:01:10- Not, by the way.
- 1:01:11Just in case anyone was wondering how I felt.
- 1:01:14- It's fine.
- 1:01:15- It was one of the daddy long legs.
- 1:01:16That's not a spider.
- 1:01:17- Oh my god, they are spiders.
- 1:01:20Oh there's, I thought I was done.
- 1:01:23You guys, she hates it.
- 1:01:25She threw it on the ground.
- 1:01:27(laughing)
- 1:01:28- Thrown on the ground.
- 1:01:30- It's a little pan.
- 1:01:32This is carry yourself with the confidence
- 1:01:34of a mediocre white man.
- 1:01:36- Yay.
- 1:01:38- I do wear this everyday.
- 1:01:39- We should be so lucky, am I right?
- 1:01:41- Seriously.
- 1:01:42- For cereals.
- 1:01:43- For cereals.
- 1:01:44- Oh cute.
- 1:01:47- That's a little skull.
- 1:01:50- Like a skull ghosty guy.
- 1:01:51- I would like to.
- 1:01:52- He looks like, I mean he's obviously a skull
- 1:01:55but he kind of also looks ghosty too.
- 1:01:57- He does.
- 1:01:57- Yeah.
- 1:01:58- Yeah.
- 1:01:59- I was like, okay, well obviously I know
- 1:02:01where you need to live.
- 1:02:02- Okay.
- 1:02:03- I put a bunch of my pins now on that coffin.
- 1:02:06The coffin word.
- 1:02:08- Yeah.
- 1:02:09- A little message board.
- 1:02:10- Yeah, I put my pins all over that now, whatever.
- 1:02:13- Love it.
- 1:02:15- Thank you.
- 1:02:17- You love everything.
- 1:02:18- Yeah, it's like your smallest gift
- 1:02:20like in the history of ever.
- 1:02:22- I mean, I got you like one thing.
- 1:02:23So I was like,
- 1:02:24our wedding's coming up, it's fine.
- 1:02:26- Yeah.
- 1:02:27- It's like a little change.
- 1:02:28- She's got enough coming.
- 1:02:29- I know.
- 1:02:30- It's a lot right now.
- 1:02:31She's just a lot.
- 1:02:32- Yeah.
- 1:02:33- She's just a lot.
- 1:02:34- But it's a good one, I promise.
- 1:02:35Good gift.
- 1:02:36- I'm excited.
- 1:02:37(laughing)
- 1:02:38- I think I know what it is, you guys.
- 1:02:41- I knew when I brought mine.
- 1:02:42I was like,
- 1:02:43ooh, she's gonna be so jealous.
- 1:02:44She doesn't even know I already got her one.
- 1:02:45- Sure was.
- 1:02:47Okay, guys.
- 1:02:48This, I think you can probably make out what this is.
- 1:02:53Oh boy.
- 1:02:55Oh, put it right up to my face
- 1:02:57'cause that's where we have the camera focused.
- 1:02:59- I love how it is.
- 1:03:02- And I have the infinity sign on it
- 1:03:03that we also just talked about with this card.
- 1:03:07- Okay, so it's like a cello night with,
- 1:03:09in case you can't quite puzzle this one out.
- 1:03:12(laughing)
- 1:03:13- It's a magician.
- 1:03:14Or no, no, no, I'm sorry.
- 1:03:16It has the infinity symbol like the magician.
- 1:03:18It always reminds me of the magician,
- 1:03:20which is similar. - Yeah.
- 1:03:21- Yes.
- 1:03:22But it's the string card.
- 1:03:24- It is.
- 1:03:25- It's the string card.
- 1:03:26- 'Cause you guys, I don't know if you knew this,
- 1:03:27but I'm a Leo.
- 1:03:29- She is.
- 1:03:29- So.
- 1:03:31- And. - It's like,
- 1:03:32has a lion on it?
- 1:03:34- Yeah, they didn't have the magician one.
- 1:03:36- I got my stuff for cool.
- 1:03:38- Yeah.
- 1:03:39- It's like your zodiac card is cooler than mine,
- 1:03:42mine's just the chariot, which is like, it's cool.
- 1:03:44- It's like the chariot's cool.
- 1:03:46- It's like, you know.
- 1:03:47- You're not excited about it.
- 1:03:48- It's like a string card, you know?
- 1:03:50So I was go for the fool,
- 1:03:52which is like my other favorite card.
- 1:03:53So.
- 1:03:54- Well, you know, I think typically when people think of me,
- 1:03:58what they think of is obviously, you know.
- 1:04:01- Strength.
- 1:04:02- Yeah.
- 1:04:03(laughing)
- 1:04:04- It's not strong, tall,
- 1:04:07is it a upper body strength?
- 1:04:09- I feel like the strength you have is more.
- 1:04:12(laughing)
- 1:04:13- Inside.
- 1:04:14- Yeah, like we're no inconsious.
- 1:04:16- Yeah.
- 1:04:17(laughing)
- 1:04:18- You guys, it's there.
- 1:04:19We swear, like you just can't see it.
- 1:04:21So.
- 1:04:22I don't know when to tell you.
- 1:04:23- Happy birthday.
- 1:04:26- Leo.
- 1:04:27- Leo season is coming.
- 1:04:29- Leo season.
- 1:04:30- But it's cancer season right now, bitch.
- 1:04:31And we're about to go to my pool party.
- 1:04:34- Pool party.
- 1:04:35- My summer win party.
- 1:04:37Wait, did I even show?
- 1:04:38I mean, I showed them in like,
- 1:04:40when we were being silly, but let me show my shirt.
- 1:04:43- Show me a lot of pop.
- 1:04:44(laughing)
- 1:04:46- Wearing my Halloween costume,
- 1:04:48which I was a dead mermaid.
- 1:04:49So I have a skeleton top with sea shells on my boobs.
- 1:04:52- Sea shells.
- 1:04:53- And that is my summer win costume.
- 1:04:56- I love it.
- 1:04:57I love it.
- 1:04:58- I mean, it's approximately 8,000 degrees.
- 1:05:01So I am not wearing my mermaid costume.
- 1:05:05- Yeah.
- 1:05:05- No.
- 1:05:06- We did use it in our alter setup though.
- 1:05:09- Yeah, we did.
- 1:05:10- We might have to take a couple of like,
- 1:05:11still shots of it so that you can like,
- 1:05:14see that it's like the mermaid.
- 1:05:16- Yeah.
- 1:05:17- I mean, you can kind of tell in the tarot video.
- 1:05:20- Yeah.
- 1:05:21- Yeah, well, okay.
- 1:05:22- Really, I really want to drive at home.
- 1:05:24Like, mermaid is fuck you guys.

- 1:05:27- It's so mermaid.
- 1:05:28- I had that mermaid skirt, the skeleton skirt.
- 1:05:31Obviously, I wasn't gonna wear that today
- 1:05:32'cause it's like a full length.
- 1:05:34Yeah, no.
- 1:05:35- No.
- 1:05:36- Again, we're sitting on the surface of the sun.
- 1:05:39- Yeah.
- 1:05:40- Currently.
- 1:05:40- You're not under the sea?
- 1:05:41Unfortunately.
- 1:05:42- No.
- 1:05:43(laughing)
- 1:05:44- No, not the sea.
- 1:05:45- Okay, we know we gotta stop because I will.
- 1:05:47- Yeah, yeah, okay.

- 1:05:59- Yeah, we need to go do a little tasty test.
- 1:06:01- Oh yeah. - To the sangory.
- 1:06:03- The sangory, yeah.
- 1:06:04It's like a fall/summer sangory.
- 1:06:06- Yeah, thanks for bringing this in a min.
- 1:06:08- I was like walking all over Jardir Joe's.
- 1:06:14Like, they don't have cinnamon in any kind.
- 1:06:16- Oh no.
- 1:06:17- It's like, what is happening?
- 1:06:18- I have cinnamon sticks so I can grind them up
- 1:06:20in my mortar and pestle and be witchy.
- 1:06:23Put them in jars. (laughing)
- 1:06:25- Yeah.
- 1:06:26- Wow.
- 1:06:27- All right.
- 1:06:28- I threw them in so they're cinnamon-

- 1:06:32- A way.
- 1:06:33- Awesome.

- 1:06:42- Or-- - Or,
- 1:06:44- Make sure under the sea.
- 1:06:45- Yeah. - Swimming around
- 1:06:47doing mermaid choreography.
- 1:06:49(laughing)
- 1:06:50- Living a silent life,
- 1:06:51just flowing with the ocean,
- 1:06:54smoking your seaweed,
- 1:06:56which is what I'm about to do as soon as we cut.
- 1:06:58(laughing)
- 1:07:01- Why wait?
- 1:07:02- I know, right? - Yeah.
- 1:07:03- Oh, it's like kind of mermaid colored.
- 1:07:06- Oh, cute.
- 1:07:07I didn't even realize.
- 1:07:09- It's everything that's everything.
- 1:07:11(upbeat music)
- 1:07:13- God, what is that called?
- 1:07:17Is that on a monopia?
- 1:07:20- Maybe.
- 1:07:21- Yeah, that sounds great.
- 1:07:22- Is that like a smell?
- 1:07:24Wait.
- 1:07:24- No.
- 1:07:26- No.
- 1:07:26- Hold on.
- 1:07:27- Hold that, I'm gonna look at that.
- 1:07:28- Yeah, where it's like a sound is a word.
- 1:07:31- Okay, so on a monopia,
- 1:07:33the formation of a word from a sound associated
- 1:07:37with what is named.
- 1:07:39- Broom!
- 1:07:40- So like sizzle.
- 1:07:42- Oh.
- 1:07:43- Yeah. - Meow.
- 1:07:45- Meow.
- 1:07:45- Rough, rough.
- 1:07:47- Real words that sound like real things,
- 1:07:50real words made to evoke the sound of real things,
- 1:07:53made up words that sound like real things
- 1:07:55and a series of letters that mimic a raw sound.
- 1:07:59- Ha ha ha ha.
- 1:08:01(laughing)
- 1:08:03- Oh good. (laughing)
- 1:08:05- We're just gonna do an on a monopia episode.
