- 0:02- Hello, I'm Olivia here with,
- 0:09Shauna, and this is your PCJ Pop for the Week.
- 0:14I recently rewatched a movie, great movie,
- 0:19also from 2004, I robot with the one
- 0:24and only Will Smith.
- 0:26- Oh my God, why?
- 0:28- So I have actually been on a bit of a rabbit hole
- 0:33of like AI whistleblowers, like,
- 0:39like there are a lot of AI engineers who are truly
- 0:43like sounding the alarm, like we should be concerned,
- 0:46we need legislation and there are some of the
- 0:49original creators of this technology.
- 0:51So I've really been in kind of that mind space
- 0:54of everything, also good in San Francisco.
- 0:57They have these humanoid robots
- 1:00that they're like walking on the streets
- 1:02in San Francisco or in Iroba.
- 1:04- Yeah, in San Francisco.
- 1:06- What?
- 1:07- No.
- 1:08- Yeah, like they're testing them, right?
- 1:11They're still people like controlling them,
- 1:13but they're doing little things like that.
- 1:16So it's been kind of interesting as well,
- 1:19like you just see like TikTok videos of it.
- 1:21So Iroba is set in 2035, they call Will Smith
- 1:26a techno-phobic cop.
- 1:29And best of gets a crime that have been perpetrated
- 1:32by a robot and ultimately leads to this larger threat
- 1:36to humanity.
- 1:38And I think that this movie came out in 2004, right?
- 1:41It was at the time quite wild.
- 1:45And people are like, oh, that's so far off.
- 1:47That's never gonna happen.
- 1:49- Yeah, 2034.
- 1:50- We're not gonna have robots by then.
- 1:52And now I just looked at what year it was.
- 1:54Like, well shit, that's only nine years.
- 1:56- Yeah, nine years.
- 1:58I mean, if Elon has his way,
- 2:00he's gonna release those robots in one to two years.
- 2:02- Oh God, no.
- 2:03- As well.
- 2:04And so yeah, I think it's a really, really interesting one.
- 2:07It's around our artificial intelligence,
- 2:10our trust within the safeguards that we're putting into them
- 2:15and the assumption that the super intelligent beings
- 2:20can't outthink our protections that we put into play.
- 2:24So I think it's just really, really up the time
- 2:27and an interesting movie.
- 2:29It is like very cyberpunk and silly.
- 2:32- Yeah, I remember it speaking to like,
- 2:33can the robots feel, do they have real emotions,
- 2:36do they feel regret and pain and love and all that good stuff too?
- 2:41- Yeah, it's super interesting.
- 2:43Like what makes a human brain?
- 2:45And like what is emotion and a soul?
- 2:50I think that it grapples with that.
- 2:52And you know, it's something that I've really been asking myself
- 2:55as of late.
- 2:57- Interesting.
- 2:57- So yeah, I think if you haven't seen it in a long time,
- 2:59watch it and be like, oh shit, we are much closer to that
- 3:03than we were in 2000 before we give it a whirl.
- 3:06Yeah, yeah, it's, but it's so late.
- 3:09It's very futuristic, very like transparent computer screen.
- 3:14How we thought we would see the world in 2035 back in 2004,
- 3:20which I would fuck up the transparent computer screen.
- 3:23Where do we get that tech?
- 3:24- Dude, I just want those computers back
- 3:26with that were like the max with the,
- 3:28they're all colorful.
- 3:29- Okay.
- 3:30- You get like a hot pink one and a green one.
- 3:31Yeah, I want that back.
- 3:33And it was clear in the back of it.
- 3:35You could see all that.
- 3:36- Where is my country little computer?
- 3:37- Yes, bring back country little computers.
- 3:41- I don't want gray.
- 3:43What is this?
- 3:44- This is ugly.
- 3:45- Oh, oh.
- 3:47(laughing)
- 3:48So as we say goodbye to the clankers,
- 3:52I just kept saying, I don't want no clankers.
- 3:54- No, get in clankers.
- 3:56- And no, the clankers duck car jobs.
- 3:59- You can't take the car, yeah.
- 4:02They took the car jobs.
- 4:03- Where can we watch?
- 4:05- I robot if we were so inclined to live here.
- 4:07- You can watch it on Hulu.
- 4:09You can also buy it on, I think, on Prime Video as well,
- 4:14if you don't have Hulu, but that's it for your PCJ Pop.
