- 0:25Speaker 1: Good morning. Hey, guys. Feels like deja vu all over again.
- 0:29Speaker 1: As the famous player once said about us. Okay, Youngin,
- 0:34Speaker 1: be brutally honest. When you woke up last Friday morning,
- 0:37Speaker 1: did you just wake up and go, what the hell
- 0:40Speaker 1: just happened?
- 0:40Speaker 3: What was your reaction?
- 0:42Speaker 2: There was a little bit of that. Yeah, it was disappointing.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It probably did take most of that Friday to get
- 0:50Speaker 3: over it and move on. But I think that Friday
- 0:53Speaker 3: night when I watched the footy and Geelong won, Carlton lost,
- 0:57Speaker 3: and I realised, hang on a minute, Carlton are done
- 0:59Speaker 3: for the year and we're still playing.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So I got over it pretty quickly.
- 1:03Speaker 3: You know, last year, this time last year, we lost
- 1:05Speaker 3: and we were out and we weren't in a semifinal.
- 1:07Speaker 3: So if you look at it that way, we get
- 1:09Speaker 3: to play a game of footy. We're in a semifinal.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's a great opportunity.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And, yeah, you get out of that funk pretty quickly
- 1:14Speaker 3: when you realise, you know, we've still got a game
- 1:16Speaker 3: of footy to play. And, yeah, it was a disappointing game.
- 1:19Speaker 2: But, yeah, really excited to be able to bounce back.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's the reason why you get the double chance when
- 1:25Speaker 1: you've played so well all year. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:26Speaker 3: 19 wins.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah. On a scale from one to never watch again,
- 1:29Speaker 1: where was that game in your opinion? Was it one
- 1:33Speaker 1: you just put in the bin and just forget about
- 1:35Speaker 1: it or do you try to take some learnings out
- 1:37Speaker 1: of it?
- 1:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a tricky one because when you play poorly,
- 1:41Speaker 3: you want to move on quickly, but we had to
- 1:44Speaker 3: really embrace our uncomfortableness about it and we spoke about
- 1:47Speaker 3: that before our meeting. Some of the stuff that we
- 1:51Speaker 3: went through in our meeting wasn't us and it was
- 1:53Speaker 3: hard to look at and it was like, We haven't
- 1:55Speaker 3: been like that.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You didn't recognize yourself?
- 1:57Speaker 3: I know, but yeah, sort of that feeling that you
- 2:00Speaker 3: got from a disappointment, feeling really uncomfortable. I mean, it
- 2:04Speaker 3: actually gave us a lot of juice heading into training.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I mean, you love to play well every week, but
- 2:11Speaker 3: sometimes when you play poorly, it just gives you that
- 2:14Speaker 3: little extra boost, and we're certainly fired up.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You just looked flat, didn't you, when you came out,
- 2:19Speaker 1: even body language. Even the fans looked a bit flat.
- 2:22Speaker 1: They were a bit sort of apprehensive and anxious about
- 2:25Speaker 1: what might happen. Do you think that was maybe because
- 2:29Speaker 1: of the build-up and how big a game it was?
- 2:31Speaker 1: And then this week, it'll be completely different. You've got
- 2:33Speaker 1: that out of your system?
- 2:35Speaker 2: It's hard to say.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I think one thing that you could say as well
- 2:39Speaker 3: is Hawthorne were really good. They put on great pressure,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and you've got to give them their credit there. And
- 2:45Speaker 3: we probably just didn't handle that. overly well, particularly in
- 2:48Speaker 3: the first half. We, you know, fed into their pressure.
- 2:52Speaker 3: We transferred pressure and didn't execute the basics of the
- 2:55Speaker 3: game well enough. So, yeah, no, we've learned from that
- 2:58Speaker 3: and I'm sure we'll be ready this week.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, things happen like Murphy returning it over and even Josh, Tracy,
- 3:05Speaker 1: he didn't have a kick till the last quarter and
- 3:07Speaker 1: didn't take a mark. That was like, he's just become
- 3:10Speaker 1: the All-Australian centre-half forward. So, So there's some weird stuff happening.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So you wouldn't think that could happen again, but I'll
- 3:15Speaker 1: leave that with you. Hey, what about, how do you
- 3:17Speaker 1: decompress though? I was just thinking about you driving in.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I was thinking, because I remember back to those days
- 3:22Speaker 1: where you can't even really go out and people want
- 3:24Speaker 1: to talk to you about it and they're tugging your
- 3:25Speaker 1: coat and going, what happened? All this sort of stuff.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Have you got a way that you can, because you
- 3:29Speaker 1: need to decompress, don't you?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you do.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Quite fortunate on the weekend, we had the weekend off,
- 3:35Speaker 3: which was good. So we had a bit of time
- 3:36Speaker 3: and I had family over, which was great. I actually
- 3:39Speaker 3: did some gardening and, In my house, which was really good.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I had the ability to sort of get active and
- 3:46Speaker 3: do some things.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You did some gardening, didn't you?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Did some gardening.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah. What sort of stuff?
- 3:50Speaker 2: I laid some lawn, actually. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And you spotted Justin Longyear, didn't you? I reckon I did.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Lawns and their lawns.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I reckon I did in Bunnings yesterday, yeah. So that's
- 3:58Speaker 1: obviously where he goes to decompress. Strange place to go
- 4:01Speaker 1: to decompress. No, that's a good place, isn't it, to go,
- 4:03Speaker 1: don't you reckon?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 2: This is good. But at this time of year, wouldn't
- 4:06Speaker 2: you just door dash what you need?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Send over some fence palings, please.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Oh, you lay some turf. That's brilliant. And you love
- 4:15Speaker 1: your dog too, don't you, off the beach?
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I spent some time at the beach and
- 4:19Speaker 3: took the dog for a walk. So, yeah, plenty of
- 4:20Speaker 3: opportunities to decompress. And I went down and watched Peel
- 4:23Speaker 3: play as well on the weekend, and they had a
- 4:25Speaker 3: great win. So, yeah, it was good to get down
- 4:28Speaker 3: and support those boys.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Dogs are king, aren't they, Lise? They can really bring
- 4:31Speaker 1: you back. They're time wasters, that's for sure. Play with
- 4:34Speaker 1: your dogs. Or I saw Geelong get off the plane. Now,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you've told me that they travel casually all the time,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but I thought, oh, they're put on– because they didn't
- 4:41Speaker 1: come in uniform, Lace. Actually, Barley Smith looked like he'd
- 4:44Speaker 1: just come out of Baywatch off the set. It was
- 4:48Speaker 1: like they were saying, well, we're not stressed. I thought
- 4:51Speaker 1: they did it deliberately, but apparently when they travel, when
- 4:55Speaker 1: they do have to travel, which is hardly ever, they
- 4:58Speaker 1: don't dress up.
- 4:59Speaker 2: No, I don't think they do. No, they're very casual.
- 5:03Speaker 2: About their travel, which is, you know, how they roll,
- 5:04Speaker 2: which is fine. So, yeah. No, good on them.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I don't want to say too much. Fair enough. Halfback flankers. Look,
- 5:15Speaker 1: now the Purple Army, I reckon you need to send
- 5:18Speaker 1: a message to the Purple Army on behalf of everyone
- 5:22Speaker 1: at 96FM, from Gold 96FM, because... I thought they were
- 5:27Speaker 1: apprehensive on the weekend. I thought they looked anxious. It
- 5:30Speaker 1: looked like they were going to the gallows or going
- 5:33Speaker 1: to a wake or something. They weren't the same, were they?
- 5:36Speaker 1: We need them to, even if they don't believe and
- 5:38Speaker 1: they're really worried, they just need to be up and about.
- 5:41Speaker 1: They need to be delivering like the Purple Army, absolute racket.
- 5:46Speaker 1: That's my view. What do you reckon?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think they have to be anything than
- 5:49Speaker 3: what they have been all year for us and that's
- 5:51Speaker 3: really passionate and I don't blame them on the weekend.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, we were all nervous. They were nervous and
- 5:56Speaker 2: that's fine. It's human nature.
- 5:57Speaker 3: They care a lot and so do we as players.
- 6:01Speaker 3: But yeah, they've been there for us all year. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 3: Despite last week's poor performance, tickets sold out in a day.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Tickets sold out in half an hour.
- 6:10Speaker 3: We've got the most passionate fans in the country, and
- 6:12Speaker 3: we know they're going to be there right behind us
- 6:14Speaker 3: on the weekend, and we can't do it without them.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Everybody plays their part, on and off the field. What
- 6:20Speaker 1: do you reckon about, how about this, guys, then? We
- 6:21Speaker 1: hit Wharfie time right at the start. No. Let's just
- 6:25Speaker 1: go bang, get everybody up and about. The whole joint's rocking.
- 6:28Speaker 2: You're devaluing it by doing that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: No, but they didn't get to use it last week.
- 6:31Speaker 2: No, I know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Well, you wouldn't.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Maybe we just kick a few goals. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That's a better strategy. Yeah, you're putting too much under warfare.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Time, I think.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:42Speaker 1: That's only a break the glass situation. Yes.
- 6:45Speaker 2: In case of an emergency, break the glass.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's a less is more. It was so weird, though,
- 6:48Speaker 1: because last week they couldn't use it and they needed it.
- 6:52Speaker 2: No, I reckon you only play it if it's really close.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Don't you?
- 6:56Speaker 2: We needed to win some contests first.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Let's just, yeah. Save wealthy time for the right moment. Yeah, exactly.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Hayden, good luck. We wish you all the best. Thank
- 7:05Speaker 1: you very much. 19 wins. You're virtually unbeatable at Optus.
- 7:07Speaker 1: One bad night does not erase six months of great work.
- 7:10Speaker 1: So good on you, buddy. We wish you all the best.
- 7:12Speaker 2: That's correct. Thank you.
