- 0:00we're now back sorry we weren't here last week me and Dan were PS and yeah I
- 0:06I was going to try and do something funny but I didn't yeah so as they know
- 0:11they would know by now oh I've still got time technically I could slap something
- 0:15together tomorrow oh yeah very quickly so I don't know you may see something
- 0:18before this or next maybe probably not welcome to multiple
- 0:24nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 0:29Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:34Things
- 0:40nerdy but I thought I was doing so well but appears I finally I got the pack pox
- 0:45I now not well incapacitated yeah like
- 0:50the flu C kind of
- 0:53boy just incubated for a week I think yeah not good cuz we're getting warm now
- 0:59it's the worst have a sort of cold flu when it's hot yeah and it was one thing
- 1:03I learned this week is that things are not taking as long to
- 1:06incubate oh we get we'll get to that I can't wait to hear this I thought you
- 1:11were going to be upset oh I am just not at what you thought I was going to
- 1:16be I can't wait to find out then do you want to not wait we do that
- 1:22jump straight into that you finally saw alien Romulus I did I watched alien
- 1:26Romulus um I I don't know that I can talk about it without spoilers so this
- 1:33will be yeah so we're going to talk alien romula spoilers yeah if you haven't seen
- 1:37it and you want to skip ahead um I saw it I I did I I liked it it's not that I
- 1:43didn't like it it's just that the more I thought about it afterwards I was like
- 1:46hang on a minute and then there were the most horrifying scene m in the
- 1:53whole movie and I don't know why they kept showing this was [ __ ] deep faky in
- 1:59Holm on why did they do
- 2:05that because they got in there I saw there
- 2:10was an Android synthetic dead on the floor and I was like that kind of looks
- 2:14like ash that's neat that's a neat little nod they'll probably just leave
- 2:18that for the No No at one point he jumps up and I was like oh that looks pretty
- 2:22cool was just a quick Flash and it was him mhm let's leave it at that nope well
- 2:28that was sort of to me I know why they did they sort of showing that they were
- 2:31just the Androids style that were
- 2:35around they yeah they were mess made it
- 2:39wasn't individual the I guess my problem with it was that the visual effect the
- 2:44visual effects were very bad and I I feel like the movie would
- 2:51have been improved by just not showing it as much I didn't mind it you could
- 2:56have had him serve the same function and just pop on the radio every now and then
- 3:00I knew it was it looked a bit weird but it didn't bother me that much I thought
- 3:04it looked really weird but I was watching it in 4k yeah
- 3:08maybe that maybe that might have been it I thought you would have been mad the
- 3:11second they said xenomorph well that's interesting
- 3:16because it's not the word xenomorph I object to it's the usage of the word and
- 3:21it was used correctly in this movie he
- 3:24says xenomorph X1 [ __ ] whatever designation it is m M and then from then
- 3:30on he referred to it as the xenomorph meaning the alien yes like I have no
- 3:36problem with that the problem I have is when people think the alien's name is
- 3:40xenomorph a xen xenomorph xenomorph is a generic word yes yeah okay yeah no what
- 3:47the said that Matt's not going to be happy no no I actually laughed when he
- 3:51said it because I was like no no I'm actually fine with that that's that's
- 3:54how it should be used in my opinion what did you think of it being the original alien
- 4:01uh I was okay with all that I liked that uh I liked so things I liked I really
- 4:07liked the addition of the Cocoon to the life cycle I thought that was really
- 4:11cool um we haven't seen that before no it was it was appropriately vagina
- 4:17looking um you know Giga would have been proud yeah we sort of see that now that
- 4:22yeah just blasting them out in the space doesn't kill them no they can cocoon
- 4:26themselves which makes sense they like they were in
- 4:30harsh conditions on LV 426 already so
- 4:35that makes sense um yeah I like that they were so they okay this is one
- 4:40question I had right the opening of the movie we see them retrieve that alien
- 4:46yep from the alien from Alien which I think people call Big Chad I learned
- 4:53this week really that his name hang on big Chad
- 4:59no not big Chad big something
- 5:02else what the alien from Alien Gad big Chad what's his
- 5:09name Z he's referred to as big chap how
- 5:14the [ __ ] do I get big Chad big chat is not an official name for the xenomorph
- 5:19drone it is a nickname used by the cast crew for the Drone during the filming of
- 5:22the original movie but people kept using it online kept saying big Chap and I'm
- 5:27like why are they calling it big chap is that did they say that in Romulus no no
- 5:32yeah I'm surprised they didn't know that to be honest yeah that's the first time
- 5:35I've ever heard of it and that's yeah surprising um so yeah we see them
- 5:41retrieve big chap MH they take him presumably to the Renaissance station
- 5:47which is Remis and Romulus which I loved by the way lay the station that was very
- 5:50cool and it was a cool way to have a section that was a bit less [ __ ] up at
- 5:54the start yes so you could then descend into madness later that was pretty good
- 6:00um and then they cut open the Cocoon and then you it shows you that it's it's the
- 6:04alien and you and it says alien and you go okay I'm watching alien yeah um but
- 6:11then I was like where'd they get the face huggers
- 6:15from and that bothered me for a long time because I think not because I
- 6:20wasn't I wasn't paying attention but also because I just I don't like the
- 6:24explanation so I think my brain just didn't get there I think the explanation
- 6:30is um cuz Rook says they extracted a a
- 6:35fluid from the alien which is the Prometheus goo yes that's the one part I
- 6:42didn't like we're going back to Prometheus goo just so the explanation is that they
- 6:48apparently apparently I learned this online apparently there's a book called
- 6:52cold Forge which is an alien book recent fairly recent after Prometheus and in
- 6:58that book they explain that when the face hugger implants you it's not a
- 7:05embryo like we grew up we grew up with it being an embryo that's what I always
- 7:10was that's that's how we they impregnate you no it's the goo they put in there oh
- 7:16yeah and so that sucks apparently they got the goo and then
- 7:22they 3D print the face huggers and that's why there's no eggs they 3D print
- 7:28like with these space 3D printers that can print organic substances that's
- 7:32where they came from I'm just going to skip over that part that's why I was
- 7:35like oh I'm liking the movie less as I learn this because at first I was like
- 7:41hang on where the [ __ ] did the face huggers come from and then I'm looking
- 7:44and I'm like you know what yeah I don't want to know just enjoy the [ __ ] that
- 7:49you like and it's it's taught me that I love Prometheus but apparently I don't
- 7:53like it when it gets too close to alien I like I like them in their Corners kind
- 7:58of thing like Prometheus should not be an alien movie that's that's the thing
- 8:03everything I love about Prometheus is the alien as in the alien is irrelevant
- 8:09yeah yeah so yeah so I didn't like that oh yeah and the thing I mentioned before is I've
- 8:15don't like how the [ __ ] alien you get implanted I'm still going to say
- 8:22impregnated with with the thing and then it just [ __ ] comes out 5 minutes
- 8:25later that's not how it used to work no it used to take time and I also
- 8:30understand in Alien the fact that it took a long time built a lot of dramatic
- 8:36tension right and it surp so everyone could be surprised when it came out and
- 8:40we all know what's going to happen now so it's actually not that interesting
- 8:43for them to [ __ ] around for two days going everything's fine thank goodness
- 8:49because we all why they just speed it up now cuz you know what's going to happen
- 8:52the only way you could make it not satisfying to me though it's just
- 8:55they've changed it I think the only way you could sort of really introduce that
- 8:58now is if someone was to get impregnant off screen and so you don't know who and
- 9:03it sort of happens yes that's the only way it would work these days well that's
- 9:06in Alien Resurrection there's that guy that wakes up uh and
- 9:11he's we know he's got one in there but I don't know that I think they do know but
- 9:16it just takes a while for it to he's running around he makes it halfway
- 9:20through the movie before something before it happens i' i' I've forgotten about that
- 9:27movie this reminded me of it a bit the ending of this was very strange that
- 9:32the ending was sort of very creepy it was very creepy I liked the creature but
- 9:37I again I didn't like and I I know this happens in Alien 2 like how [ __ ] fast
- 9:43did that thing get enormous yeah that was that was surprising
- 9:49like I guess I that isn't that because I know in Alien it bursts out of cane it
- 9:55runs off and then I don't we don't actually know how long later but all of
- 10:00a sudden it's [ __ ] huge like all it's like big chap size so
- 10:05yeah but this is like seconds it was 2 seconds it was a baby and it came and
- 10:10then it crawled off and then all of a sudden it was [ __ ] huge 10 eating
- 10:14anything yeah cuz the whole thing was meant to be that they the aliens of they
- 10:19go out and then they start scourging for food and then they get bigger and they
- 10:22still grow very fast but something had to be a catalyst for them to they can't
- 10:27just grow without yeah yeah anything energy doesn't just get created it's
- 10:34converted also I I don't like that this
- 10:37makes me ask questions about aliens
- 10:41because why is Burke not know like why do they not know about the alien in
- 10:48Aliens like in Aliens they don't know that the alien is in the deric on the
- 10:55other side of the planet after they find Ripley she tells them survey crew over
- 11:00there like it's just so it's just weird to me that it's like how do they not
- 11:06know that if they already know they already got big chap from the Nostromo
- 11:11and they've got this space station they've been manufacturing them like how
- 11:13do they not know about the alien at this point stop overthinking it I can't help
- 11:20it I can't help it I'm an old man and I it's something it's a movie that is like
- 11:25caught my identity in a way you know you know like can't help it I know but yet
- 11:31you and I look at these conversations people talking online about stuff and
- 11:34I'm like I don't know what you're talking about because it's not in Alien
- 11:38aliens alien 3 or alien resurrection right and I don't like Alien
- 11:42Resurrection there's a lot of books out there now yeah I know it's like with
- 11:46Star Wars right you know I think we've talked about this before there's a
- 11:49certain point where you got old enough that you were like no new information
- 11:54thanks like yeah Alien 3 alien one two and three that's
- 12:01my reference for this stuff the stuff after it I'm like not for me no we don't
- 12:08need we're not a writer no and uh I'm yeah so anyway Romulus I I really
- 12:15enjoyed the first half of it uh especially the stuff at the start on the
- 12:18planet I was like oh this is great and like I liked Andy the yep but yeah
- 12:24finding out like this universe is really messed up yeah yeah I liked all that
- 12:29stuff it was only once they I guess once I realized the goo had to be involved
- 12:35that's where I was like goo I don't care about the
- 12:40goo I like the anti-grav scene that was good that was a I want to watch it again
- 12:44now I might watch it this afternoon while I'm in bed it wasn't it yeah it
- 12:49wasn't bad it's just that there was a lot of stuff that my my brain had to
- 12:53like ignore that ignore that see the thing is good is I can actually just
- 12:58ignore that stuff I can question it sometimes but I can also just go e it's
- 13:01a movie that's I clearly did because people are like you know know he
- 13:04explained where the face huggers came from the movie and and I was like my my
- 13:08my brain protected me from that information as I was watching it
- 13:13like my like it filtered it before it got to my Consciousness where it was
- 13:18like that's going to annoy you ignore it and then it wasn't until afterwards
- 13:23that I was like hang on a minute
- 13:27anyway yeah anyway yeah I liked it mhm just it had some stuff that annoyed me
- 13:33and the more I think about it the less sense it makes but yeah but if you don't
- 13:37think that's all of those movies now so better than alien Covenant it's the
- 13:43problem is you want to know more because you really enjoy it but the more you
- 13:45know the more you dislike it yeah yeah I just I don't want to know what they're
- 13:49telling me yes yeah the stuff that you make on your head that's great I liked
- 13:55the alien when it was an alien from space can we go back to that please that's
- 14:01what I that's what I liked it and the the company wanted it and they didn't
- 14:04have it not that they not not whatever this is like it's confusing now well
- 14:11it's the problem that it has turned into like a whole franchise and you got to
- 14:15keep it going and try and tie it together and keep it and
- 14:18yeah and I feel silly now for having liked Prometheus so much cuz it really
- 14:23is that was the problem well AP was bad too but they like chopped off that off
- 14:29and yeah yeah but Prometheus introduced black
- 14:34goo I liked Prometheus just it should have been its own
- 14:39thing and it's still if they didn't throw the alien at the end it still could have
- 14:44been well and it wasn't it wasn't actually the alien at the end it was
- 14:48kind of like something else so even then my brain was like no no it's okay mhm it
- 14:53was in it was alien Covenant where I was
- 14:55like no no no forget it I'm
- 15:01done now you have been watching something else this week and I want to
- 15:05talk to you about it cuz I'm scared okay I think you need an
- 15:09intervention oh oh I know what this is you'll be watching anient Apocalypse
- 15:15season 2 and I want to read something that was in the chat that's not all that
- 15:20I've been watching this week I've been watching uh Graham Hancock on various
- 15:25shows cuz he's promoting the new season stting to things and
- 15:32it's the things that you don't to question like what like what what did I
- 15:37question was the the fact that like humans have been around for so many
- 15:40years but really civilizations only been around for 6,000 like what were we doing
- 15:43the rest of the time mhm Yeah well yeah well electricity's only been around for
- 15:49200 like there's a catalyst so things just go very quickly but there's periods of
- 15:56nothing 300,000 years is a long time when when he like I said when he said it
- 16:00I was like it's a good question like Why didn't it happen earlier and then I I
- 16:04mean since then I look okay so what L's talking about is in an interview recently grahe
- 16:10Hancock said he put up a chart and he said we know that modern man as in Homo
- 16:16sapiens first showed up around 300,000 years
- 16:21ago we also know you know they spread out everywhere yeah and then 6,000 years
- 16:28ago is all the civilizations we know about around the world there like six or seven
- 16:35major ones that we know about around the
- 16:38same time they all began Y and that that
- 16:43is interesting like in isolation that information is like oh yeah cuz then
- 16:50he's like what were we doing before that why was it not more spread out why
- 16:54didn't some develop it you know 100,000 years earlier what was the thing and
- 16:58then and I was like yeah okay good question but then I looked into it yes
- 17:02after I after I sent that message yes and the answer is well first of all the
- 17:08shortly before 6,000 years ago like before that happened there was a [ __ ]
- 17:13ice age and like the Earth was barely
- 17:17inhabitable for long periods of time um and then apparently the answer according
- 17:23to most scientists is population density mixed with changing climate scarcity of
- 17:29food necessitated working together yeah to farm people found Agriculture and the
- 17:36reason that everybody around the world did it is because they all had to
- 17:38otherwise they would have [ __ ] died they just got to a point where the
- 17:40population got so big you can't just Loop off Hunting and Gathering yeah and
- 17:45I guess that makes sense too but also it was Atlantis Luke what if it was
- 17:51Atlantis well where's all that stuff well I learned in ancient
- 17:57apocalypse season 2 the answer is it's in South America
- 18:02Luke what's it doing there well we don't we don't get that
- 18:07far no so these are the thing I I still need to fact check a lot of this what
- 18:12what I like about okay I'm I'm very interested in this
- 18:16stuff and I like uh do you know you know Flint Dibble the guy who debated grahe
- 18:20Hancock on Joe Rogan Flint Dibble is a really funny interesting
- 18:25guy but he's very dry uh on his YouTube channel like for
- 18:30me he's like like cuz it's he's he's an archaeologist and he's interested in
- 18:36actual facts and stuff like that so when you watch him he's on a zoom call it's
- 18:40like this he's just talking to some scientist and occasionally they'll pop a
- 18:42slide up or anything and or something like that and he gives you
- 18:45information grahe Hancock is on Netflix and when he shows up at [ __ ] chenita
- 18:52or somewhere there's like [ __ ] music and the camera's spinning around and
- 18:57he's standing there looking at carvings and stuff and he's like what if these
- 19:01ancient civilizations knew about Venus and like and you're like yeah
- 19:07that's I mean it's it's more convincing isn't
- 19:11it it's scary that people think this is
- 19:15true well he's he's walked it back he's walked it back a lot in this his main as
- 19:21far as I can tell his main thesis in this is in a lot of the South
- 19:25American cultures like for example the Inca built a lot of
- 19:30stuff and their style allegedly I I haven't fact checked any of this stuff
- 19:35allegedly their style of building was very like Square brick and blah blah
- 19:40blah blah blah but a lot of their stuff is built on these megalithic structures
- 19:45that are carved stone blocks similar to what we see in other civilizations
- 19:51around the world and so his theory is they didn't make that they found that
- 19:57and then they built on it so who did build it that's his theory not that just
- 20:03at the time it's just the easiest stuff to do people just I mean it certainly
- 20:08wasn't easy no like yeah there's no question of that and then and then like
- 20:13he talks to these experts who I know he Cherry picks his experts but they say
- 20:16yeah know we actually don't know how they did it look I can actually
- 20:19understand CU When I was looking into Flat Earth even though I know it's not
- 20:21true when you start just only hearing from that Community you start the
- 20:27question like hold on yeah that's right that is a bit weird
- 20:30and to be clear I'm not actually questioning I just I find the show very
- 20:33entertaining he is very well spoken he's very interesting and it's very well done
- 20:37it is it's dramatic and it's entertaining and I think I said in the
- 20:41chat too I [ __ ] laugh out loud sometimes at the CU he's a he's an old
- 20:46man yeah right and so they'll but they'll do these dramatic shots where
- 20:49he's just kind of he's just kind of standing there looking like an old man
- 20:52but the camera's like whipping around in like Matrix style in like like there's a
- 20:57shot in this of these like Amazonian Warriors running through the jungle and then it like
- 21:03slowly pans over and grahe Hancock's just standing there looking old in his
- 21:06leather jacket and it's like maybe I should watch
- 21:11it oh it's number four in TV shows world the moment yeah it doesn't surprise me
- 21:17it's it's it's compelling television
- 21:20even if it is [ __ ] yes okay but the
- 21:25problem more the problem with it is there's
- 21:29like I mean he's not basing it on nothing like these things that he's
- 21:34showing you are real it's just his interpretation of them wildly differs
- 21:38from everyone else yeah people have actually done a lot more research into
- 21:43it so what I did with the first season I watched the first season I really liked
- 21:47it and at the end of every episode I was like [ __ ] how do you explain that and
- 21:52then I would go online and I would see oh archaeologists have made videos mhm
- 21:58explaining the things that he and it's very easy to explain yeah so this just
- 22:03came out so that hasn't happened yet yes but over the next few weeks I'm sure
- 22:08someone will explain to me why the [ __ ] geoglyphs in the Amazon don't
- 22:14indicate that there was Atlantis
- 22:18there or whatever or why Easter Island isn't Atlantis or I don't think he never
- 22:24he doesn't say Atlantis I'm I shouldn't yeah don't think he says at get very mad
- 22:28if accusing he used to talk about Atlantis didn't he he used to talk about
- 22:32a lot of stuff he's walked all that stuff right back and in his
- 22:36defense he has and I think he knows that
- 22:40was a bit silly like this whole
- 22:45episodes maybe there's a there's at least one episode maybe more content
- 22:49than that just about aasa in this he's very into psychedelics now and I was
- 22:54like that explains a lot yeah that that does you'll take some look at
- 23:00something go what if this cuz he was like why is it that um all these
- 23:07civilizations around the world take these like psychedelics and they all
- 23:11draw geometric shapes where did that come from and it's like well we have the same
- 23:15brains it'd be weird if we didn't hallucinate the same [ __ ] like people
- 23:19still taking them today like yeah why do yeah but like he's saying you know why
- 23:25is it all these geometric shapes like cuz cuz we're all humans we take the
- 23:29stuff and then that's what it does to us like makes it it's yeah like why do they
- 23:34why if we all drink you know [ __ ] why we all eat [ __ ] why do we
- 23:40all get sick that's a bit weird isn't it no it's not
- 23:45weird but he says it in his voice and it makes it question yeah
- 23:51yeah anyway good entertainment but I do I
- 23:57I I've seen the argument that he I think people go too far with the weird
- 24:02arguments he's been accused of like they've not calling him racist or
- 24:06anything but they're saying the stuff he's talking about a lot of the sources
- 24:10of of racist and it's like well I mean he's clearly not saying this
- 24:16was like a white race of people that like he's saying from South America like
- 24:21these are clearly not like yeah he's not claiming that this is you know white
- 24:26people teaching the native but just it's not what he's saying at all but he's
- 24:31also going like these people weren't smart enough to come up with themselves
- 24:33and not even that he's just saying like now he saying I'm not I'm
- 24:40not saying he hasn't said stuff before I'm sure he probably may have and I'm I
- 24:44like I say he's walked a lot of stuff back all he's saying now is he thinks
- 24:48the fact that there's so many similarities he thinks it's not enough
- 24:53to say that we're all humans and we want
- 24:56to do the same [ __ ] he thinks somebody
- 25:01taught them how to do it because there was a civilization before all those
- 25:05civilizations and then they put their own flare on it
- 25:10yeah yeah cuz it's not exactly the same I think some of the accusations that
- 25:15gets lab like I I think it's silly and it's probably not you know it's not true
- 25:19most of it's not true some of it might be true could be yeah
- 25:25but uh yeah I don't think calling him a racist or
- 25:30anything sensible and I think that does more harm than good too because then he
- 25:35can say oh they're just calling me a racist and it's like that's actually not
- 25:39the issue the issue is that you're teaching people nonsense they're calling me racist try
- 25:44and shut me down and get me cancelled yeah like it gives him
- 25:50ammunition you just attack his arguments
- 25:54well then he can't do that
- 25:58sorry I'm fighting with a cat I see that what is the cat doing keeps pushing the
- 26:05microphone and is now biting me ow
- 26:11ow
- 26:14stay cats stay don't they if you train
- 26:18them I guess yeah this one's not trained H anyway ancient apocalypse season 2 oh
- 26:24and ke Reeves is in it oh yes I remember that his involvement appears to well it
- 26:29doesn't I've watched the whole season his involvement literally is he and
- 26:34Graham stand somewhere mhm in a in a you know in a in a
- 26:40location uh and they talk and B got ke for a
- 26:45day if that yeah like an hour and it's
- 26:49just chat and then it's seem saying stuff like yeah I've always thought
- 26:54there was more to the story than we were told and then Graham's like M there is
- 26:58is and then it'll cut to something else and it's yeah okay I mean he got a
- 27:04paycheck is what I'm saying yeah I just still don't believe that he
- 27:10did it cuz I don't know that just sort of gives more ability which
- 27:16is that's what he's there for clearly like there is there is no reason
- 27:22for Kean Reeves to be in this other than to say Kean Reeves is in this so it must
- 27:27be true yep you like K
- 27:31Reeves there he is yep he's nodding gr Hancock's telling him this stuff nodding
- 27:37so it looks like he's agreeing and he'd
- 27:45know anyway that's what I've been doing this week oh I've been doing one other thing
- 27:51but what have you been doing I've been talking a lot no no I'm enjoying this
- 27:56I'm remember I'm dying sure but I feel horrible to packs we have to talk about
- 28:00packs I went to packs no I'm I've got stuff to talk about I'll be ready for
- 28:04next week but no packs was great um it was Dan first time at the Australian
- 28:07packs yes and you realiz we maybe we can wait till he's here to do a full deep
- 28:12yeah all right um it was his first again forgot to do panels again because I
- 28:17always get caught up oh yeah in tournaments and playing games and um
- 28:21there is a bit of controversy this year that I'll talk about this week is there
- 28:25someone got a lifetime ban from playing um tournaments at packs and maybe being
- 28:31banned from packs why cuz they were cheating at Ticket to Ride
- 28:37tournament is this we don't know this person we don't know this person okay
- 28:42good but yeah though they were caught and they would got a lifetime ban from
- 28:45playing tournament cuz they were yeah stealing cards and hiding them and lying
- 28:50about their tracks They completed and really and I think reason someone got
- 28:57caught not officially caught last year but they were questioned like keep an
- 29:01eye on this guy this this year someone was actually caught this year they
- 29:05actually had prizes for winning tournaments so like not just a ribbon or
- 29:09not just a you still got your medal but King of Tokyo he's a the monster boxer
- 29:14King of Tokyo oh okay like decent prizes so I don't know if that had something to
- 29:18do with it but people have been known to try and cheat in the past but yeah
- 29:23that's just a little bit of gos that happened on the last day is it you they
- 29:28it's not me okay just checking I would never cheat I've I'm happy with my
- 29:33record of losing most tournaments at packs did you win anything did you win
- 29:37any tournaments no I got to the final quite a few times oh yeah it actually
- 29:42was quite nice one the last final we're in um cuz I see meet these people there
- 29:48every year like don't know their names we just see each other we play
- 29:51tournaments we chat we catch up and then we w't sing in for another year they'd
- 29:55won a tournament the day before your name yes I'm terrible with names they
- 30:00won the day before they' won a tournament so got the prize so then I
- 30:05came second they went here you can have the King of Tokyo Monster Box I've got
- 30:09an expansion from King of Tokyo because they'd already won that copy so it was
- 30:12quite nice that like these people we just like hey we've already won so you
- 30:15can have this it wasn't our yeah yeah so that was quite a nice thing see we don't
- 30:20cheat we share the prizes right right but it's done for another year um we did
- 30:27go see panel which we weren't going to go see but we just ended up seeing it
- 30:31was quite interesting which we'll talk about next week okay but the thing I
- 30:34love is also seeing games change over time cuz a lot of
- 30:39Indie Games there and you'll see them come out they'll show it and then they
- 30:44disappear for a year come back to next year and the game is completely reworked
- 30:47and no that was nice to see so I'll have more to talk about next week with Dan
- 30:52he's here so he can talk for himself all right
- 30:58not Dan's not here by the way oh yeah in case you didn't notice
- 31:03yeah Luke cat is also filling is filling
- 31:07in the ro ro I can't talk yeah uh I played an indie game this week
- 31:13I played started and finished a game in less than a week wow it's a short game
- 31:20yeah but uh I played the excavation of
- 31:23Hobs Barrow this is an indie point and click Adventure game and it's excellent
- 31:30and I highly recommend if you like that kind of game uh you should check it out
- 31:35it's in the style of like the old uh I I think probably fate of Atlantis
- 31:40monkeyland 2 is probably the best equivalent kind of era of game
- 31:47um it doesn't have the ver it doesn't have the the you know the verbs and that
- 31:51down the bottom to click on you just click on things and interact but it's
- 31:54it's very good now that this is also one of the games we saw at PX that I think
- 31:57you quite like called The Drifter that's coming out next year much like this as
- 32:00well wait you saw that like just now at Pax yeah The
- 32:05Drifter did you talk to Dave from powerof no no oh okay you just saw it
- 32:11there just saw it every time I went there they were busy talking to other
- 32:15people oh okay yeah know I like those guys
- 32:20yeah that's what we'll be talking about next week but no so cuz yeah I'm just
- 32:25looking the um page on Steam and everything's very
- 32:31positive for uh excavation of H HS yeah
- 32:35y yeah it's great you play as a Thomasina she's like a archaeologist uh
- 32:42who gets a letter she's she's writing a book about all the barrows in uh in in
- 32:47in England it's ancient burial mounds in case you're not familiar um listeners
- 32:51and Luke and she's writing a book about ancient barrows and she gets a letter
- 32:55from someone called Leonard Scher who says there's a very interesting Barrow
- 33:00here in I forget the name of the town Hobs not Hobs it's called Hobs
- 33:05Barrow uh but uh come here and uh I'll show you this Barrow I think you'll find
- 33:11it very interesting so they agree to meet up she goes there and uh things
- 33:17happen things happen is it a long game guess not if you finished it I
- 33:23think it's probably just that that per nice can I see my play play time my play
- 33:28time would be like it's it's a it's a point click adventure game so it's not
- 33:33like you know there not lot of reloading or yeah you know anything like that so
- 33:40whatever my play time is I'm guessing is probably just probably it pretty
- 33:44standard and you don't want to with these types of games you don't want 10
- 33:4812h hour gameplay no it was nice like I said it was nice it was fun it was it
- 33:52didn't overstate to welcome I when it ended I was like that was very
- 33:55satisfying so let's see installed Hobs
- 34:01Barrow does it tell me my Play Time 10 hours 43 minutes
- 34:07oh it's longer than I thought but I'm actually no I'm more amazing you spent
- 34:1010 hours playing a game it was really really captivating like yeah it's it's a
- 34:16really good game good story like it's interesting it's a little bit little bit
- 34:21Supernatural at times I might have to give it a try then
- 34:26slow build of the mystery like as you go on things are a bit mysterious and you
- 34:29have to kind of figure out what the [ __ ] is going on and it's
- 34:33good that sometimes happens with those games mhm yeah what's going on I'm just
- 34:37going to try and use this on everyone see what happens yeah a little bit of
- 34:42that there some puzzles were I never had to look up the solution to a puzzle
- 34:46there was some that got me for a little bit and then I was like oh I know what
- 34:50to do yeah and then it always kind of seemed obvious afterwards but sometimes
- 34:56those games it's they can be a bit tricky like they want you do a very
- 35:00specific thing and in your head that doesn't make sense sometimes but I could
- 35:04just one puzzle where it's like that you need an item to complete the puzzle and
- 35:10it took me ages to even notice this item existed in the game that that was the
- 35:15that was the one that got me the most stuck but then once I found the thing I
- 35:19was like oh I know what to do I know exactly what to do yeah yeah
- 35:24okay right yeah recommend it it's not on Xbox so I can't play it
- 35:30unfortunately no it's not no it's on Mac PC that might be
- 35:36it a lot of them starting to see with these typ of games they're also going to
- 35:40um switch switch as well it might be on switch actually I have no idea hang on
- 35:47is it on switch Hobs Barrow Googling for those which I think
- 35:53that these types of games would be good on switch he on the switch that would
- 35:57have been good good I should have done that yeah I'm trying to think like these
- 35:59types of games are good on a handheld now I got to look at what other
- 36:06the publisher wget eye games publish some good [ __ ] all of
- 36:11these games are quite good PR Gemini R I've played all of them that's the
- 36:16problem unow I haven't played is that on switch it is maybe I'll play unavowed on
- 36:20the switch that's the only I haven't played yet anyway yeah it got me well see
- 36:26coincidentally it got me interested in you know I've always talked about making
- 36:30an adventure game yes and and uh The
- 36:34Drifter is made by poweroff who make Dave from poweroff makes power quest
- 36:40which is a Unity add-on for making point and click adventure games that I've been
- 36:44using and I've been watching all his tutorial videos so when you said you saw
- 36:47them there I was like oh y I know I know Dave y I mean I don't know him but I
- 36:52know I know I've watched hours and hours of him talking cuz yeah I was watching
- 36:57it it's like fully voiced this time so it's going to be quite interesting yeah
- 37:02yeah and the art is amazing yeah the trailer for it looks incredible yeah so
- 37:07next year yeah I've been following the dev diaries oh I'll play it if I hadn't
- 37:12known I would have made a bit more of an effort to force talking to them I didn't
- 37:16know they were going to be there but I guess I should have assumed because it's
- 37:18Australia it just didn't occur to me yeah like CU they're that's where they are Yep this
- 37:24is the sort of biggest thing for the Indie scene in you pack there you go
- 37:30next time let me know I will and I'll kidnap him all right you'd have to do
- 37:36that then he can't make more content for me to watch okay I watch a lot of
- 37:41Australian game development people actually we've got some really great
- 37:44people here it's just a shame that we don't they don't get us
- 37:48support think mostly Melbourne I think they yeah Melbourne's the place to do
- 37:53that Mel's the place Melbourne and New Zealand yeah right New Zealand's Got
- 37:57quite a New Zealand the other state of Australia yes but no um they're at packs
- 38:02every year and they've got they've got we just lost our New Zealand
- 38:05listener they've got one called I think it's published called code and they've
- 38:10got like a lot of lot devs Indie devs that they try and help bring games and
- 38:13they bring them to Australia to show off they've got quite a few really good ones as
- 38:17well that's fantastic mhm that's really bad Ki accent yeah I don't try and do
- 38:23accents I know except Scottish I can do Scottish but done at the
- 38:29moment I'm struggling to talk at the moment all right what do you what do you
- 38:34want me to talk about I want to talk about horse armor okay I can talk about horse armor
- 38:40what's going on with horse armor this is follow-up I suppose of a sort because we
- 38:45talked about I think we talked about this no we couldn't have I just realized
- 38:502006 we hav started this yet we started this podcast in
- 38:552011 yes like which is [ __ ] long time ago this is around Skyrims when we
- 39:00started this we we definitely talked about horse armmer on the podcast and
- 39:07cuz horse was really the first real DLC
- 39:11yeah yeah especially on a console
- 39:15uh and I purchased it so did I so when
- 39:20Oblivion came out on Xbox 360 the first like you said think probably potentially
- 39:26one of the first DLCs ever available was horse armor which cost what like $10 or
- 39:31something yeah it was a bit expensive for what it was and cuz it was literally just a
- 39:38cosmetic thing on the horse it didn't do anything yep and I actually remember I
- 39:42got it saw my horse on it rode around my horse died and I never knew how to get the armor
- 39:50back well apparently oh no okay $3 how much was it price isn't really the issue
- 39:56anyway so a former developer from Bethesda said and we didn't I guess we didn't
- 40:01really know this before despite all the really really
- 40:05really bad feedback and jokes and people saying what a [ __ ] ripoff and and all
- 40:10that they sold millions of them y I can believe
- 40:15that so that's why that's why that's what we get I guess because people keep buying
- 40:21it yeah like the best way to stop DLC if you're upset about it microtransaction
- 40:27don't buy it yep yeah that's but yeah like if you can
- 40:34just make this little thing horse armor sell it and sell it for
- 40:38millions and it it must have been just at the right price point yeah what was
- 40:45it I pay $3 cuz they're saying it's $250 on this
- 40:51website how much was the horse I'm thinking $495 oh
- 40:58no this would have been um back in the days of Microsoft points remember the
- 41:03store you didn't use cash I reckon would 400 points yeah you're right yeah
- 41:09apparently it was $250 yeah I'm happy those days are gone
- 41:15remember that when you if you want to buy like a game you had to use points
- 41:20and you could never buy just amount of points you wanted yeah yeah that's
- 41:24[ __ ] stupid uh Nintendo tries to get you to do that on the switch but with
- 41:28money cuz I'll say if you go to buy a game on the switch M digitally and the
- 41:34game is say $40 yeah they'll say do you want to just pay the $40 or do you want
- 41:39to pay the 50 and just get the 50 pay $50 credit and then use that and it's
- 41:43like well then I'll just have $10 yeah on there why would I want to do that cuz
- 41:48you might then spend it there or they yeah it just seems weird to me
- 41:54sometimes like I don't know why you would do that
- 41:59I can understand like having any options to put credit on like that makes total
- 42:04sense but like if you're already in the process of buying it like that seems a
- 42:07weird time give us 50 I guess maybe psychologically people
- 42:12do go oh yeah maybe I'll use that $10 for something so as as we just said like
- 42:18they're doing it because it's working yeah
- 42:23yeah um speaking of game money and whatnot I found this article very
- 42:29interesting i' like to talk about it we've talked before actually I think
- 42:35we've definitely talked about this at length and I think we had articles on
- 42:37the website about it just about um when multiple nasm wrote
- 42:41articles um the cost of piracy to game
- 42:46development companies and how we we don't obviously we don't dispute that
- 42:51there is some cost but also not everybody who Pirates a game would have
- 42:57purchased that game same with movies and CDs and stuff like that just because
- 43:01someone downloaded a game doesn't mean you would have got money yeah had they
- 43:06not and so I thought this was interesting because at
- 43:09first uh I thought they were just like trying to calculate the lost money based
- 43:16on downloads that's not what this is this study looked at there's this
- 43:21particular type of copy protection for video games made by denuvo yes yes I'm
- 43:27aware of it so what they did is they looked
- 43:32at in like like like data on when a game comes
- 43:38out how much how many copies does it sell mhm and then versus at what point
- 43:45does the crack for the copy protection come out yep and then they look at sales
- 43:51before the copy protection comes out sales after and in some cases sometimes
- 43:54it's like 12 weeks before the copy prote are they saying like is a trend cuz
- 43:59games will always sell most at the start and then start drop so when the crack
- 44:03comes out is there a big drop or is it just so there's like a chart here that
- 44:07says like um basically it looks like
- 44:12it's maybe 20% maybe it's about it looks like it's
- 44:17about 20% like on average like you look at this chart down the bottom comparison of
- 44:24weekly Revenue lost by week cracked and again this is very specula this is not
- 44:29def in any way but this is an interesting way of of doing it so if you
- 44:34look if on this chart if the crack came
- 44:39out the same day the game came out they
- 44:42can expect lose slightly over 20% yep because people just will not well not
- 44:49people 20 2% of people won't pay for it that
- 44:54would have and then the ch goes from
- 44:59there that's actually quite interesting yeah I think it's
- 45:04definitely more accurate used in Australia they used to come out P py
- 45:10very hard and movie industry was going like way losing all this money but then
- 45:14every year they go we've made record profits yeah yeah yeah like that doesn't
- 45:19work with um I know we've talked about this before too with DVDs and movie
- 45:24piracy and stuff like that they complain about movie
- 45:28piracy but they never the DVDs didn't exist when we were kids no movies are on
- 45:35VHS tapes and nobody bought movies on VHS tape well not nobody but like
- 45:40expensive most people did not buy movies on VHS tapes like this is a whole new
- 45:45Revenue stream you record movies off the television yeah exactly oh yeah so it's
- 45:51it always struck me as strange that like this thing didn't exist they
- 45:57DVDs came out they started making buckets of money CU everyone was just
- 46:00buying movies and and then some people started copying them and they were like
- 46:04oh we're losing all this you didn't have that money it's happening every time
- 46:08though like when the VHS came out and like you were able to record they went
- 46:12that's going to be the end of us when cassette tapes came out and you could
- 46:16hit record off the radio people said that's going to be the end of us like
- 46:19it's every single time something CED out and then they just go oh we're actually
- 46:24making more money now so we'll be quiet yeah and how much yeah how much of these
- 46:28[ __ ] movies not all
- 46:32movies but like
- 46:37yeah I thought this very interesting very clever way of getting actual yeah I
- 46:43actually quite like it like it shows that like yeah if crack comes out very
- 46:46early that's when they'll lose the money if they if that crack can
- 46:50stay hold off they cuz by the end looks like at the end of six weeks that's when
- 46:56sales are sort of dropping off and comes out there people are just yeah I'm just
- 46:59going to buy it they said interestingly it doesn't seem to
- 47:03matter what type of game it is the numbers are always pretty similar which
- 47:08I thought was very interesting like the percentages are quite similar like I
- 47:12know there are people out there who just will never ever buy a game like there
- 47:16are those people who are just yeah but you'll never get money
- 47:19from them so don't worry about it
- 47:22like yeah no that's yeah no that's I
- 47:27don't like the noo I think they yeah I don't like any of those
- 47:32things well I'm not endorsing them I'm just saying this was an interesting way
- 47:36of tracking it it's not that I don't like it's just like sometimes with this
- 47:40like anti-piracy stuff it can actually impact the game itself it's intrusive
- 47:45and yeah like well was one of the Assassin's Creed games the DRM servers
- 47:50[ __ ] up and you could play the game yeah like that stuff still happens all
- 47:53the time yeah but I do like now that they will actually get to a point point
- 47:57where they go eh we're just removing it now yeah they should well this study
- 48:02said um they could after 12 weeks do that and it would have negligible impact
- 48:09because after 12 weeks the sales like the the the effect is
- 48:14negligible yeah like after 12 weeks people wanted the game who were going to
- 48:18buy it they going to buy it everyone else after 12 weeks they're waiting for
- 48:21a sale that's right yeah after 12 weeks everybody who's
- 48:25going to buy it has bought it everyone's going to p has pirated it yeah don't
- 48:28worry about it too much after that yeah not everyone but like the majority
- 48:33of people we're not condoning piracy no not at
- 48:39all no but yeah 20% of the start's a big hit though yeah it
- 48:46is but again that still assumes those people
- 48:52would have bought bought it well well actually no because sorry that's not
- 48:57true because they were basing it on data
- 49:01yeah they those people in theory did buy games when there wasn't a crack yes
- 49:07that's how that's why this is different so I actually I should retract that yes
- 49:10that 20% might be legit yeah
- 49:15yep I remember cracking games back in the day I mean I didn't crack any games but
- 49:22I remember games being cracked cracked well it's when you're at a l and you
- 49:25wanted to play like I remember having to apply cracks to a game yes yeah well
- 49:31sometimes only cracks I would actually sort of use were the ones where I didn't
- 49:34have to put the disc in yeah oh I've done that plenty of times yeah like I've
- 49:37purchased a game I've installed it I just don't want to have to get the disc
- 49:40out yep yeah I have a lot of games installed and I like to flick between
- 49:44them like an idiot yes like basically we just what it is now with steam like you
- 49:49just flick through change whatever you want does think but back then we had to
- 49:53yeah work for that yeah well you kid easy these days speaking of steam got
- 50:00some followup we talked about the other week I'm pretty sure we talked about you
- 50:04and I talked about the um California law that says they'll have to say you're not
- 50:11buying the product you're buying a license this is unrelated to that I
- 50:15think uh it is timed to cons to fit with
- 50:19the new law but anyway steam now says when you buy a game on Steam it says a
- 50:26purchase of a digital product grants a license for the product on Steam click
- 50:31here for terms and conditions so they are telling you you're not buying the
- 50:37game product on Steam yeah but I don't is that
- 50:44actually enough for the law though because that just goes yes I've got a
- 50:47license I own a license to play that game whenever I
- 50:50want don't know the license shouldn't go away the license doesn't go away but
- 50:56license might go away that's in the terms and conditions you have to click
- 51:00that little link the steam subscriber agreement games could go away I've had
- 51:05stuff but I'm purchasing a license I'm not renting a license what's that I'm purchasing a
- 51:11license I'm not renting a license not if
- 51:15if a publisher removes a game from Steam yes you still Li
- 51:21isless they don't have a license so it doesn't mean anything it's worthless
- 51:25yeah that's what with that but although with this this may alleviate something
- 51:31I've always wondered like what happens if they come back yeah that's the thing I've always
- 51:37wondered like in like when MythBusters left like if that comes back in 2 years
- 51:42time the license I got does that still valid my instinct with
- 51:49steam is that they' give it back to you just because
- 51:53steam I I feel like whether I'm incorrect but I feel like they're kind of consumer
- 52:00friendly they've got enough money that it's not really going to yeah I maybe
- 52:04I'm maybe they've just managed to trick me into thinking that over many many
- 52:09years but I feel like they would give you the game back if they got it back
- 52:13how often do um games leave steam I I don't know if that ever
- 52:20happens I was saying as an example that's what's been happening on other
- 52:23things and I assume that's why they' had to put this text SE St leave like
- 52:29um even in the Microsoft store and stuff some like um The Telltale Games where
- 52:35there we don't have them anymore Gog is different uh in that you can
- 52:42download Standalone installers and that's yours you keep that continue to
- 52:47work forever but if you they may you may not be able to buy this download
- 52:53installer all the time though no no youed to download them and back them up
- 52:56back which I have done for most of my games on um Gog I have back up on my
- 53:03file server in the basement yes I have a file server in the basement oh no there
- 53:08there a whole Jen boss thinks that's very funny that I have a server in the
- 53:12house I was like well I have stuff I want to put on it yeah know there's a
- 53:18the start I'm just looking at there's a list of games that at risk of removal
- 53:22from Steam yeah right Starship Troopers and
- 53:27command
- 53:30M that's weird license exp what happens then it goes away presumably it goes
- 53:36away yeah yeah yeah I mean nothing I can do about it really I
- 53:42guess they don't have expiration so it looks like they purchased a license for
- 53:47Starship Troopers didn't have it for that long and now they can't sell the game
- 53:52anymore they can't sell it or they can't even let you play it well what I'm
- 53:56looking at I don't know for certain I'm just looking at the website and it's
- 53:59that games at risk of removal so I'm thinking they can't even support it
- 54:03anymore it be removed from theore might just being removed from the store I
- 54:06don't know yeah I shouldn't have I just wonder about that is can they are they
- 54:12just not allowed to sell it to people or do they actually have to remove it from
- 54:15people who already bought it like that happened on Kindle too and it was ironically
- 54:211984 then people were like oh it's a wellion it's it's not it's not
- 54:26particularly relevant to what he was trying to say but it was ironic in a
- 54:30sense I'm not actually going to follow this anymore cuz it's got games at risk
- 54:33of removal and it's got like the Lego Star Wars games and stuff and so this is
- 54:38just someone's personal list wait what they had like the Lego
- 54:44Star Wars games and Cobra Kai and all this stuff so I think it's just someone
- 54:47just made a list of stuff that they think oh they think might be yeah
- 54:51removed okay maybe they are at risk Maybe
- 54:56well well even Yellen wake you can't buy the original version of that anymore no
- 55:01because of the music yeah bastards I think I still own the
- 55:06original copy somewhere but if I was to redownload it it would be upd music yeah
- 55:12disc somewhere on Xbox 360 yep it's down there somewhere in a a binder I'll put
- 55:18all my 360 discs in a binder when we moved that's a good way of doing
- 55:22it instead of Ling around all the cases yeah I've recycled
- 55:29them yeah all right tell me about your new sex
- 55:34stll well i' would love to it was very expensive uh as you all know I'm a fan
- 55:40of Boulders Gate 3
- 55:42mhm and uh I just I just there was I just really wanted to uh to buy an
- 55:49asarian sex doll for $20,000 yep don't blame you and now now
- 55:55I'm famous on the internet the one thing I just saw on there which
- 56:00I'm a bit amazed about when I saw like the link to this I'm thinking sex so I'm
- 56:04thinking yep it's going to be a female no it's a male sex doll yeah it's a
- 56:07staran yeah the the vampire sorry spoilers The Vampire you find out within
- 56:12the first 10 minutes the vampire elf
- 56:17aaran uh yeah somebody bought it um and
- 56:23then apparently from the from the post they said they ordered it and when it
- 56:29arrived the company had made changes to the face so it didn't look like asarian
- 56:36anymore or something and then they said they can't complain despite that I
- 56:40really can't complain I think you can complain oh you can but there probably
- 56:44also a legal thing where we can't make an exact copy oh maybe this is the
- 56:49review this is an amazing doll very well made details are phenomenal I wasn't
- 56:53completely satisfied with the custom head sadly I gave them a 3D file and
- 56:57before printing the head they made quite a few changes I didn't ask for that
- 57:01threw his whole lookoff for me like that's not what you ordered then is it
- 57:07yeah so now I wonder if cuz I know with a lot
- 57:13of these sex dolls and things like that the first one is the expensive one and
- 57:16then when they resell it on they become cheaper as they go cuz they have to make
- 57:20like C remember we discussed on the podcast ages ago there was a someone got a custom foot
- 57:27made oh yeah okay and getting the custom bold getting that first one made was
- 57:32quite expensive but then when they're making more they could sell them at a
- 57:35cheaper one because you're not doing the whole creating from scratch
- 57:40thing okay so what you're saying is that I could get one of these for cheaper
- 57:44than 20 grand now yes cuz they've already got the mold there but you're
- 57:47going to have to live with the messed up face can I get it I think I prefer
- 57:53Shadow heart one just quietly I know that's not going to surprise
- 57:58literally anybody nope but uh well you got a spare 20,000 line
- 58:04around all right I'm going to regret
- 58:08this Shadow heart sex
- 58:14doll I'm sure there is one there has to
- 58:20be I mean it's not showing up oh so maybe you do have to pay that 20,00 to
- 58:26get the first one made I've on AliExpress I can get uh Shadow heart's
- 58:32underwear from the game um
- 58:38okay I mean I don't think I'd look very good in it
- 58:44but
- 58:49anyway well before I go off and die we should probably um look at ending this
- 58:55podcast and going off and doing the Afterparty what's the Afterparty Luke
