- 0:12Hello friends. It is Sean.
- 0:14Here it is Friday, it is the 15th of September.
- 0:19And hello, welcome to the end of the week.
- 0:22Congratulations. Here we are.
- 0:24You have made it through all of those difficult, full,
- 0:27challenging days, I bet. Whether it's study that you're
- 0:31knuckling down as we get toward the end of the year, or work
- 0:36when there's only one of you and 100 things to be done at the
- 0:39same time. Full busy days, or whether you
- 0:42are caring for someone who needs your attention when there's just
- 0:46not enough hours in the day for you to take a moment for
- 0:49yourself. Our weeks are full and I just
- 0:52want to encourage you that here at the end of another week, you
- 0:56and I can just put down the challenges and busyness of our
- 1:00weeks and come before our loving God.
- 1:05And we do that today with a Psalm.
- 1:07This is a brief Psalm. This is a Psalm of ASAP.
- 1:11This is a Psalm of lament about crying out for the justice of
- 1:17God. So whatever's coming or going or
- 1:20rushing around in your head, let us take a moment, place it down,
- 1:29and we come before you got our God of Justice.
- 1:34And we open our hearts, our ears, and our minds to hear what
- 1:39you have to say to us as we read together.
- 1:43Psalm 82 God presides over heaven's
- 1:57course. He pronounces judgments on the
- 2:00heavenly beings. How long will you hand down
- 2:04unjust decisions by favoring the wicked?
- 2:08Give justice to the poor and the orphan.
- 2:12Uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
- 2:16Rescue the poor and the helpless.
- 2:19Deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
- 2:23But these oppressors know nothing.
- 2:26They are so ignorant they wonder about in darkness while the
- 2:32whole world is shaken to the core.
- 2:36I say you are gods. You are all children of the Most
- 2:41High. But you will die like mere
- 2:44mortals and fall like every other ruler.
- 2:49Rise up, oh God, and judge the earth for all the nations belong
- 2:56to you. You are in the driver's seat,
- 3:10our God, When the world feels like it's heading in the wrong
- 3:14direction, but justice feels like it's a dream that will
- 3:20never become reality, let us sit firmly in the sure knowledge
- 3:25that you, our just and present God, are sovereign over
- 3:30everything and that all nations belong to you.
- 3:37Help us. Have enough faith in you and
- 3:41your sovereignty that the injustices of the world, yes,
- 3:45they may rile us up, that we would be your voice for justice.
- 3:50They would not bring us despair, because we know that you are a
- 3:56God of justice and that you rule from your heavenly throne.
- 4:01So we praise you, our great God of justice, and we thank you
- 4:05that you bring that justice. And more than justice, you bring
- 4:09your grace, your undeserved love and forgiveness for us, even
- 4:14when we don't deserve it. Thank you for everything that
- 4:19you give us, showing us who you are in Jesus for comforting us
- 4:25in your spirit. We just give you our praise, We
- 4:30give you our all, and it's in Jesus name that we pray.
- 4:35Amen.
