  Many people believe that an evil, sinful life dooms the soul

  This implies that the soul permanently takes on the burden

  of the actions of the external being in any lifetime.

  There are, however, other ways to look at the situation.

  Sri Aurobindo and the Mother explain that the soul is the

  spark of the Divine and cannot be polluted by the actions of

  the external nature. The external nature consists of

  various parts that have evolved over long spans of time and

  continue to grow and evolve naturally.

  During this process, the body, life and mind will take on

  various perspectives, lines of development, moral codes,

  logical standpoints, and observational profiles across an

  innumerable number of lifetimes. The experience will be decidedly

  mixed. In ages and cultures where brute

  force rules, the being will obviously have to take on the

  coloration of that society, while in others that focus on

  mutual respect, cooperation and collaboration, a different value

  set will occur. Some cultures focus on

  immediate, vital satisfaction of desires as the objective, and in

  those certain lines of action will prevail.

  Through all of these varied perspectives and lifetimes, the

  soul in the form of its developing psychic being, takes

  on the essence of the experience, gains power of

  action over time, and nevertheless remains true to its

  source, the Divine. The voice of the soul is not

  strident or loud. If the external being is unready

  or unwilling to hear it, it simply withdraws or remains in

  the background until the time and circumstances become more
