- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the High Level Wife Podcast.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Chelsea Holm, your hostess, and here we do Marriage God's Way.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And during my Bible reading this week, um, I don't know if it's when you're hearing this.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I always record in advance and it posts to you guys later.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but I was in First Kings.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: First Kings 11 specifically.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: So this is following Solomon has become king, he has much wisdom, he builds the temple, he does all these other things.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But then but then Solomon begins turning away from the Lord because he liked his foreign women and they turned his heart away.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: He turned they turned his heart after their gods.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And so as I'm reading, right, so Solomon he he starts building these like temples and and places of worship and sacrifices to Ash Toreth, uh to Milcom, to Malek, to Kemosh, right?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I was like not really familiar with pagan gods of old.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And so, but I know that for these things, right?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Like these are usually just demons behind um behind all of it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And um so I wanted to learn how are these pagan gods of old, little g gods, showing up in modern culture today?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And so I did a quick, quick deep dive on you know what these were.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And I think the two that stuck out most to me were Ashturith, right?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Like this is the uh Asherah polls, and it's really about unchecked consumerism, indulgence, um, right, like coveting, um, like wanting more, more, more, more, more, right.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, well, if that doesn't show up today, like, I mean, I've personally struggled with that, with like shopping online, and thankfully the Lord had like was just revealed that to me and um like has walked me through that.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And and I'm not gonna lie, like my flesh still is like I enjoy that, but at this point I'm like, but I do love God more, like, and I know that like I can buy something online, right?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Like that in and of itself is not sinning, but what's the heart behind it?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: What's the intent behind it?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: And am I seeking something in and through that that that only the Lord can satisfy in me, right?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Anyway, and so I just thought it was so fascinating to see just how um specifically for wives these things are showing up today, and they are common, normal.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Like go to your social media and look at all of the influencers that are selling like clothes and stuff for your home and like anti-aging, and you know, like, and again, and none of those things in and of themselves are sinful.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: It's always the heart behind it, right?
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Anything that we chase, anything that we love more than we love God is sin, is a problem, right?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And it has to be confessed and repented of.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Repentance simply means turning away from the thing and towards God.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to challenge you to take a look at your life and see where these pagan gods of old are showing up today and are completely culturally acceptable and normal.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And how are they robbing you of the intimacy of the Father and of what he wants to give you and what he how he wants to fill you to overflowing, right, to bless you abundantly more than anything you could even think or ask or imagine because your heart is aligned with his.
- 4:59unknown: Right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: The enemy doesn't have to destroy you.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: We do a great job of destroying ourselves when we chase after these foreign things, when we allow our hearts to be turned away from God.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: So, what idolatry is taking place in your life, in your marriage today?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Moloch, this is where modern-day abortion comes from.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Like it was all about child sacrifice.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Um, so anyway, you slice it, and we're seeing culturally things that you know, people were like, oh no, this is just about this, and it'll never be that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And like we're seeing culturally and even globally, like people are opting to end life, like up to, I want to say, I just saw a case recently um of a doctor who was ending life up to like 10.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Like, what 10 years old?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Excuse me, like you know, and and and that's a way of the enemy, right?
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Nothing is ever like blatant in your face, it's always small ebbs and chipping away of things until we just take it as okay, like that's just normal.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: This should mourn our hearts, right?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: That when when our hearts are aligned with God, when the things that mourns the Lord and the things that anger him are also the things that cause grief in our hearts and anger us.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: So, what modern day idolatry is showing up, right?
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Like, and not just abortion, right?
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: We also see this more um sinisterly woven into our lives as wives and moms in giving our kids up to be consumed or sacrificed, maybe not physically, but mentally, socially, emotionally, to anything else.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: I couldn't help but think of devices, you know, and I get it.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: It's easy, right?
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: It's easy, it's easier than parenting, it's easier than telling our kids no, but it's destroying them, and I think that it is modern day idolatry to Mollock, to devour our kids, and to hand them over.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: You can call me crazy.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: A lot of people do.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: It was funny today at uh my women's small group, it was the first and last time that I get to go, so it was bittersweet.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, but the one of the gals, she was praying for me at the end, and uh bless her heart, you know, she's praying that the light that I've been to them that I would also, you know, take to Kentucky.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And I just had to laugh afterwards and said, you know, like sometimes my light can be more like a blowtorch or a spotlight that people don't really care for, you know, and um one of my other friends, yeah, one of our other friends, she was like, Yeah, but that's needed a lot of times.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, You're right, you're absolutely right.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but I just had to chuckle about that.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: So this is me calling you out on look at your life, let the Holy Spirit examine your life and reveal any modern day idolatry, anything that is turning you away from the heart of God.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: It says here in 1 Kings 11, it says for in verse 4, for when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart for after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: All right, so what is turning your heart away?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: What is causing your heart to not be wholly true to the Lord your God?
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: This is a problem.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: And these are ashropoles that need to be ripped down and altars to pagan false gods that need to be torn down and destroyed, never to be allowed again.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing we don't have idol worship as they did back in the day, but it still exists almost more sinisterly.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's a word, but um, in the sense that it's not as in our face obvious, right?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But it's there, it's there.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Can we see it?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And are we willing to ask the Lord to reveal it to us so that we can tear the idols down?
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: I'll see you on the next episode.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Oh my god!
