- 0:03What is going on, everybody?
- 0:04We got live college playoff football
- 0:07tonight.
- 0:09Next.
- 0:21I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:22and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:24I always take what I want,
- 0:25and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:27Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:28Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:30I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:31Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:33Now wake up!
- 0:34It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:36Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:38friend to me.
- 0:39It's not working out,
- 0:41maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:42It's time to break up so I can
- 0:44make a better me.
- 0:44Eeeeee, abadaba!
- 0:49it's lunch time what is going on everybody
- 0:53welcome to lunch with the clydesdale
- 0:56Cowboys back for a second day.
- 0:58We're going to talk about some CrossFit
- 1:00stuff,
- 1:01but I want to start it off with
- 1:02Ole Miss Miami tonight, seven thirty p.m.
- 1:06First playoff game of eight this weekend.
- 1:09Win or go home games from tonight through
- 1:14Monday and the Ole Miss running rebels
- 1:18minus Lane Kiffin.
- 1:21are still alive in the final four of
- 1:23the college football playoffs.
- 1:25Lane's sitting there in LSU trying to muck
- 1:27up the system and take coaches back and
- 1:31do all this stuff.
- 1:32And I think all it's doing is galvanizing
- 1:35the Ole Miss team to say, hey,
- 1:37we can do this without you.
- 1:40Look, more power to them.
- 1:43More power to them.
- 1:44It's an SEC school.
- 1:45That's all I care about right now.
- 1:47So good on them.
- 1:49I hope they do well.
- 1:50I hope they win every single down.
- 1:55I hope they score plenty of touchdowns and
- 1:57win the game.
- 1:57Good for them.
- 1:59Mark Phillips says, what a mucker.
- 2:03Yeah, I, it is so like,
- 2:06I know the schedule,
- 2:07it makes things like impossible in this
- 2:09situation,
- 2:11but the reality of the situation is lane
- 2:13goes to LSU because he says LSU gives
- 2:16them a better chance to win a national
- 2:18championship.
- 2:19And the team he left is sitting in
- 2:22the final four and,
- 2:26and they're the higher ranked team in this
- 2:27game tonight that goes to the national
- 2:30championship game.
- 2:33It's insanity.
- 2:35College football has flipped on its head.
- 2:37There's no Alabama.
- 2:38There's no Ohio State.
- 2:39There's no Clemson.
- 2:40There's none of those traditional big-time
- 2:43schools in the finals.
- 2:46And I think it's awesome.
- 2:47None of the guys that have been hanging
- 2:49around like the past however many years
- 2:52you want to put on it.
- 2:52I mean, Ohio State's always up there.
- 2:55Alabama, obviously, this century,
- 2:58you would say,
- 2:59since the early two thousand,
- 3:00since basically since Saban got there,
- 3:02turned their program completely around and
- 3:05turned them into what they are now.
- 3:08They're out, which in my opinion,
- 3:10they never should have been there in the
- 3:10first place.
- 3:12So take that for what it is.
- 3:16Georgia also been dominant,
- 3:18super dominant out.
- 3:21And it's funny to me to watch the
- 3:24people comment on Instagram and whatnot.
- 3:28Oh, the SEC, it just means more.
- 3:31as if for the last fifteen years SEC
- 3:33hasn't been the absolute dominant force on
- 3:36the in the college football just landscape
- 3:39like yeah dude the last two years it's
- 3:41been a couple down years congratulations
- 3:43you guys are winning stuff good for you
- 3:47without acknowledging the fact that it's
- 3:50been SEC SEC SEC SEC SEC yeah
- 3:54Jay Birch, a century.
- 3:55Yes.
- 3:56This century is only a couple decades old.
- 4:00Yeah, this century.
- 4:01That's what I meant.
- 4:02Yeah, since the two thousands.
- 4:04So just to clarify,
- 4:06the two thousands are only twenty five
- 4:09years old.
- 4:10Right.
- 4:10So I understand, Birch,
- 4:12because in my head,
- 4:14nineteen ninety five is still fifteen
- 4:16years ago, but it's not.
- 4:17Yeah.
- 4:20So I understand that.
- 4:22But it had we did turn a century
- 4:24whenever we knew Y to K,
- 4:27that whole thing.
- 4:29So tonight we have the team that got
- 4:31spurned by its head coach versus the team
- 4:34that was said they shouldn't be in the
- 4:36playoffs and Notre Dame should be there
- 4:38instead.
- 4:39even though they beat Notre Dame.
- 4:42And then tomorrow night we have Mark Cuban
- 4:44money versus Nike money.
- 4:47My money's on Mark Cuban.
- 4:51My money's on Mark Cuban at this point.
- 4:53Dude, Kurt Cignetti is awesome.
- 4:56He is fantastic.
- 4:58All the highlights of him at press
- 5:02conferences and stuff like that,
- 5:03he's like, I'm a winner.
- 5:05Google me.
- 5:07That's one of the coldest things I've ever
- 5:09heard a coach say in the past fifteen,
- 5:11twenty years at least.
- 5:14At least.
- 5:16David Reed, Corey,
- 5:17we're no longer friends.
- 5:21Clock cutter.
- 5:22SEC has overrated.
- 5:23All the fans have left.
- 5:24It's Alabama from a decade ago.
- 5:27It's really been a big ten couple years,
- 5:30man.
- 5:31michigan ohio state winning national
- 5:33titles two big ten schools in the final
- 5:35four and i live in big ten country
- 5:38penn state is a big ten school i'm
- 5:40a big ten guy you're an sec guy
- 5:42um and that is they're the two best
- 5:44conferences in the country and they're but
- 5:48i am anxious to see what this whole
- 5:50new college football looks like with all
- 5:52the money coming in
- 5:54Because if you can flip Indiana around
- 5:57from where they were two years ago with
- 5:59Cuban money, crazy.
- 6:03Absolutely.
- 6:05Absolutely.
- 6:06Absolutely.
- 6:07I mean,
- 6:08the timeline on the whole Indiana thing
- 6:11is, first of all,
- 6:12Indiana has been a basketball school.
- 6:15I'm forty-eight years old.
- 6:16I didn't even know Indiana had a football
- 6:18team.
- 6:20Indiana's a basketball school.
- 6:22Hoosiers.
- 6:23It's a whole ass movie about what?
- 6:26Indiana basketball.
- 6:28Yep.
- 6:29The only reason I knew Indiana had a
- 6:30football team is it was like a warm-up
- 6:32game for the bigger games in the Big
- 6:34Ten.
- 6:36And now it's not.
- 6:37Now it's,
- 6:38you're going to get punched in the mouth.
- 6:39Yeah, it's going to happen.
- 6:42It's going to happen.
- 6:44Jody's sister went to the University of
- 6:45Indiana.
- 6:46Oh, there you go.
- 6:48The next few years for us,
- 6:49you are looking rough.
- 6:50Sig is recruiting real talent.
- 6:52They will win the natty with low talent.
- 6:54Imagine what they will do with talent.
- 6:56Yeah.
- 6:58And dude,
- 6:59those checks from Cuban are rolling in.
- 7:02Holy crap, man.
- 7:04It changes everything.
- 7:05Texas Tech and the oil money,
- 7:07Cuban and his money, Nike.
- 7:09It's going to be Oregon and Texas Tech
- 7:12and Indiana.
- 7:13They're going to be major players in this
- 7:15thing.
- 7:17We got chicken finger money down here.
- 7:19Chicken finger and ambulance chaser,
- 7:26injury lawyer.
- 7:26That's what I was looking for.
- 7:27Personal injury lawyer money.
- 7:31um uh anderson i think they should make
- 7:34different ncaa divisions depending on how
- 7:35much nil money a school has it will
- 7:38come to a point where there are maybe
- 7:40a dozen schools that run everything due to
- 7:41the money but andrew we were coming out
- 7:44of an era where it was a dozen
- 7:45schools that ran everything because of
- 7:47their history and their name and the money
- 7:49because they had the best facilities
- 7:51Like Alabama's facility is off the chain.
- 7:55LSU's facilities are off the chain.
- 7:57That's how they were recruiting all the
- 7:59best kids.
- 8:00And they were able to make them take
- 8:02the step to the NFL.
- 8:04That's why people went there.
- 8:06It's just the money has changed to where
- 8:09now you can directly recruit and pay the
- 8:11players to come to your school.
- 8:13So it's not like...
- 8:17I would say there's actually more parity
- 8:19now with the Wild Wild West than there
- 8:22was five years ago with LSU and Alabama
- 8:26and Ohio State and Clemson.
- 8:28There was really only four schools that
- 8:30could win it every year.
- 8:32If you saw the,
- 8:33or at least part of the Coach O
- 8:35interview,
- 8:36or one of the Coach O interviews from
- 8:37a couple weeks ago or whatnot, he said,
- 8:39the only difference now is that we used
- 8:41to bring the money in through the back
- 8:42door,
- 8:43and now we can bring the money in
- 8:44through the front door.
- 8:45He said that's the main difference as far
- 8:47as that goes.
- 8:51Phil Knight has more money than Cuban and
- 8:53has made it his life goal to have
- 8:54Ducks win the national championship,
- 8:56and he's only running out of days.
- 9:00Here's the thing.
- 9:01You're absolutely right.
- 9:02He one hundred percent has done that and
- 9:04they still have not done it yet.
- 9:08Understand, as always, disagrees with me.
- 9:11But that's why I love him, man,
- 9:13because we can have these discussions.
- 9:20If you are a non-revenue sports athlete,
- 9:22the best option is to not go to
- 9:24a power five school unless the Olympics
- 9:26are in your future.
- 9:27Scholarships are yearly now.
- 9:30If that dude, like I keep in like,
- 9:33you know,
- 9:33a couple of the LSU pages that I
- 9:35follow on Instagram,
- 9:36then they're updating as we get people
- 9:38signed in, which is, it,
- 9:41it looks like a transfer wire,
- 9:42which is what it is,
- 9:43but like for the NFL or professional
- 9:45baseball or whatever else,
- 9:46like it's the off season and, oh,
- 9:48we signed this person.
- 9:49Oh, we signed this person.
- 9:50That was never a thing.
- 9:53If you transfer it in,
- 9:54you had to sit out a year.
- 9:55Yeah.
- 9:57Well,
- 9:58I think that's enough of the college
- 9:59football talk.
- 9:59We'll get into some CrossFit stuff because
- 10:01we have a lot on the docket today.
- 10:03Don't forget to like and subscribe to the
- 10:05channel.
- 10:06But I will be watching the game tonight
- 10:09and the game tomorrow night and all the
- 10:10games over the weekend.
- 10:13I wanted to start with,
- 10:14I texted you last night.
- 10:17CrossFit put out a video of James Sprague
- 10:19taking his L-tube.
- 10:22which I still did not get a chance
- 10:23to watch it, but it is,
- 10:24it is awesome because it's a great
- 10:27illustration of what the L two is about,
- 10:29I believe.
- 10:31And, um,
- 10:32and James is very open to being, um,
- 10:36constructively criticized over his
- 10:39coaching.
- 10:39And so I'm just going to share like
- 10:41a ten second piece of this.
- 10:43So you can kind of get an idea
- 10:45of how the L two went for James.
- 10:54They're better trainers.
- 10:55Now we're not going to get the perfect
- 10:56position with low load.
- 10:58So just do your best here.
- 11:00What I want you guys to go through
- 11:02here.
- 11:02Okay, pause.
- 11:02Take a breath, my friend.
- 11:03Most people forget to drive.
- 11:05What they do is they... Okay, okay, pause,
- 11:07pause.
- 11:08In life,
- 11:08do you feel like you talk a lot
- 11:09or too little?
- 11:11I talk way too much.
- 11:12Yep.
- 11:13It's a challenging and sometimes a scary
- 11:16environment for people.
- 11:17But everybody who shows up at these
- 11:19courses are remarkable.
- 11:20For the front rack position,
- 11:22with a strict press,
- 11:23you're actually going to keep your elbows
- 11:24a little bit lower.
- 11:25So what I want to see,
- 11:27instead of pressing your elbows through as
- 11:28much as you can,
- 11:30find that hybrid position where your
- 11:31elbows.
- 11:31So if the floor is there.
- 11:33your forearm is there so let me see
- 11:36that good for our position okay pause i
- 11:39want to say first i'm still going to
- 11:42say that was ninety seconds to say get
- 11:44your elbows under the car so that was
- 11:52awesome um so awesome to kind of watch
- 11:58him go through that and and i know
- 12:00when i first started coaching i was a
- 12:01blabbermouth
- 12:03Like I wanted to hit all the points,
- 12:04right, all the points.
- 12:06And she's like, ninety seconds to say,
- 12:09get your elbows under the bar.
- 12:12I check myself,
- 12:14especially with new people when I'm
- 12:16coaching,
- 12:16because I will do the same thing.
- 12:18And I will stop and say, look,
- 12:20I know I'm throwing a whole lot of
- 12:21information at you right now.
- 12:23Let me back up.
- 12:24And we're just going to this is the
- 12:26only thing we're going to focus on right
- 12:27now.
- 12:29That for me, that works a whole lot.
- 12:31Like, Hey, well, let me stop.
- 12:33Cause I know I just threw, you know,
- 12:35I said,
- 12:36different words that maybe five of them
- 12:39made sense.
- 12:41Let me back up a little bit and
- 12:43let's, let's,
- 12:44let's break this down and get it to
- 12:46what's the most base thing that's gonna
- 12:47help you right this second.
- 12:49And then we can move on from there.
- 12:52Yeah.
- 12:52So that part of the video is the
- 12:53beginning of day one.
- 12:55And it goes all the way through day
- 12:57two.
- 12:58And then there's a dramatic difference in
- 13:00the way James coaches from the beginning
- 13:03of day one until you get to the
- 13:05end of day two.
- 13:06And he even says at the end,
- 13:07like I came in thinking like I knew
- 13:09a lot.
- 13:10And at the end of the weekend,
- 13:12like I had a lot to learn.
- 13:14Yeah.
- 13:17If you've not seen it,
- 13:18it's on the CrossFit YouTube channel.
- 13:21Go check it out.
- 13:22It's only ten minutes long,
- 13:24but it's jacked full of really cool
- 13:27moments.
- 13:28And I think they did an excellent job
- 13:32putting this out.
- 13:35I can't wait.
- 13:36I'm going to do mine when my L-One
- 13:39expires in October.
- 13:42So I'm going to sign up and get
- 13:43mine renewed and go ahead and do that.
- 13:45It's going to be great.
- 13:47I'm like,
- 13:47I'm kind of bummed because my L-One
- 13:49expired eight days ago.
- 13:52Nope.
- 13:54eight days ago.
- 13:55And I, and I feel like,
- 13:59I feel like a little piece of me
- 14:00is missing now,
- 14:02even though I don't use it at all.
- 14:04Like I don't judge anymore.
- 14:06I don't coach anymore.
- 14:07I don't do any of those things.
- 14:12But I,
- 14:12so I couldn't justify paying the thousand
- 14:15dollars to,
- 14:16to like do it again,
- 14:18because I've done it twice.
- 14:19I've had my one since twenty fifteen.
- 14:22It's twenty twenty five now.
- 14:24So I had it for ten years and
- 14:26now all of a sudden I don't have
- 14:27it and it just feels weird.
- 14:30So I am fairly certain that you could
- 14:33have gotten your L two or you still
- 14:35can, because you already have your L one.
- 14:37Like you don't have to go do redo
- 14:38your L one.
- 14:39You can just go take that.
- 14:41You can just go take the L two
- 14:42now.
- 14:43Um, which even though you're not coaching,
- 14:45like I'm,
- 14:46I'm certain it would still help you as
- 14:49an athlete.
- 14:51Right.
- 14:53cues, whatnot,
- 14:54things you don't think about necessarily
- 14:56being able to move and whatnot.
- 14:59It's pretty good stuff.
- 15:00And yes, Ken Walters.
- 15:03Yeah.
- 15:05I mean, it could be,
- 15:06it could have been a tax deduction,
- 15:07but like,
- 15:08I need to spend my money on this
- 15:10venture.
- 15:11What I'm doing now,
- 15:12make sure like you have microphones like
- 15:15Carolyn and Jamie are set up all of
- 15:18those types of things.
- 15:19And that's where my priority is because I
- 15:22don't need an L one to do media.
- 15:24And I have the knowledge.
- 15:25I took the course twice,
- 15:27passed it both times.
- 15:28Right.
- 15:29Um,
- 15:33Jody,
- 15:34it would be a tax deduction for me
- 15:36because it would be a business expense.
- 15:38It would be related to what we do
- 15:39here.
- 15:40I could talk about it,
- 15:42things of that nature.
- 15:43For the money I get paid to coach,
- 15:53I get whatever tax form it is at
- 15:55the end of the year as an independent,
- 15:57you know,
- 16:02What I did,
- 16:02I didn't realize that I could write off
- 16:05so much stuff to kind of offset that
- 16:07thing because I'm, you know,
- 16:10in addition to my actual job,
- 16:12I have another job, which is coaching.
- 16:14So like my registration fees, shoes,
- 16:20grips, like pick a thing.
- 16:23If it's CrossFit related,
- 16:24it is helping me become a better coach.
- 16:26Therefore, I can write it off.
- 16:27It's fantastic.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:30Ten ninety nine.
- 16:31Everybody's saying you can write off so
- 16:32many things.
- 16:33Thank you.
- 16:35You don't work.
- 16:45Bite it, CJ.
- 16:48Yeah.
- 16:48Oh, that's correct for you.
- 16:50It's a tax deduction.
- 16:51Not for me.
- 16:51I get it.
- 16:51Yes.
- 16:53Yeah.
- 16:53I don't know how you would correlate to
- 16:54now one to cabinet making selling.
- 16:57Probably probably not.
- 17:01Probably not.
- 17:02I mean, you could write,
- 17:03you could figure some stuff out.
- 17:07So to answer Andrew's question,
- 17:08do those write-offs actually do a lot?
- 17:12I don't know yet.
- 17:13Because last year I didn't.
- 17:15Right.
- 17:16And it affected our tax return because it
- 17:18was, I mean, I just get paid.
- 17:20Like I don't know what taxes get taken
- 17:22out of them whenever they write me a
- 17:23check.
- 17:25But I have a very good friend of
- 17:26mine who has been telling me more than
- 17:31once, like, dude,
- 17:32write down everything you do.
- 17:34You know, you have,
- 17:35I got digital receipts for everything he
- 17:38said,
- 17:38and it's going to make a difference at
- 17:39the end of the year.
- 17:40So we'll find out here shortly.
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:42Like,
- 17:46For my business, the media business,
- 17:48I write off everything.
- 17:51My travel to Knoxville to go to Syndicate,
- 17:54all that, the gas, the mileage,
- 17:56all that kind of stuff.
- 17:59Mileage is huge for events.
- 18:01Plane tickets, hotels, whatever it takes.
- 18:04Yeah.
- 18:06I got all of that this year.
- 18:08I got two travels, one to Arizona,
- 18:12one to Kansas City, Airbnbs.
- 18:15I mean, food, picket, name a thing.
- 18:18So pretty excited about that.
- 18:20We'll see.
- 18:22So the last little bit I want to
- 18:23talk about with James is, you know,
- 18:25him and Hopper and Dallin and Justin,
- 18:29the boys interrupted are really like,
- 18:31I think,
- 18:32changing the face of the modern athlete.
- 18:35And I think it's reverting back to that
- 18:37old school approach where CrossFit and the
- 18:40athletes are working hand in hand.
- 18:42And I think what it's doing for them
- 18:45and their
- 18:48their gosh i don't know image their um
- 18:53i know what you're getting across you know
- 18:57what
- 18:58they're getting more followers are getting
- 18:59more like, because,
- 19:01because of the partnership they're,
- 19:03they're creating with CrossFit.
- 19:05And I think it's really changing the game
- 19:06for the modern athlete.
- 19:08And if I'm an athlete and I'm watching
- 19:10them do their thing and how much CrossFit
- 19:13is using them in videos and exposure,
- 19:17exposure was a word I was looking for.
- 19:20But I think it's authentic.
- 19:21It has to stay.
- 19:23You can't be doing it just to get
- 19:24exposure.
- 19:25You have to be doing it because you
- 19:27love doing this stuff.
- 19:28And you could tell watching this video
- 19:30that James was really excited about
- 19:32learning more and becoming a better coach.
- 19:35And I think that is really, really cool.
- 19:38And if I'm an athlete,
- 19:40I would look at this stuff going, man,
- 19:42I need to do more of that instead
- 19:44of hiding in my whole training all the
- 19:46time.
- 19:46Correct.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:48Well, so I think I feel like anyway,
- 19:51part of the huge growth that we have
- 19:53was that you could see these games
- 19:56athletes,
- 19:56you could see the Rich Fronings and the
- 19:58Chris Spielers of the world and whatnot
- 19:59out there doing their thing on the
- 20:00competition floor.
- 20:01And then you could also see them doling
- 20:04out L ones being on seminar staff.
- 20:07And that's a lot more relatable.
- 20:10they're out there and they're actually in
- 20:12the trenches in coaching and owning
- 20:14affiliates and whatnot that's a whole lot
- 20:17more relatable knowing that hey they can
- 20:18they actually do both things at the time
- 20:21so like james james getting his l too
- 20:23that's a fantastic thing hey he's actually
- 20:25a coach he's not just like you said
- 20:28buried in his place doing his training
- 20:31head down moving moving along and whatnot
- 20:34he is he's more like one of us
- 20:36he's more he's actually a normal dude
- 20:38You know, he's got faults.
- 20:39He's not fantastic at everything.
- 20:41I mean, you just saw it.
- 20:42She stopped him twice.
- 20:45You know, twice just to let you know.
- 20:48Yeah.
- 20:48Oh, I bet.
- 20:51James is like a giant puppy dog.
- 20:52He's chasing a car the entire time.
- 20:55And I just figured out, oh, shit,
- 20:58I caught it.
- 20:59I don't know what to do now.
- 21:00But not just James.
- 21:00Like,
- 21:01Dallin went and did the military base
- 21:03training with Dave and coached the
- 21:06classes.
- 21:08Yeah.
- 21:09you know,
- 21:09hoppers doing more and more media and
- 21:11working with everybody.
- 21:12Justin did those drop-ins all the way to
- 21:15Waterpalooza where he stopped in at a
- 21:17different affiliate the whole way on his
- 21:19trip from,
- 21:21was it Utah or Utah down to California?
- 21:25Yeah.
- 21:25Like that's awesome.
- 21:27Like that's stuff that,
- 21:28that you would see rich do.
- 21:30And rich still does to this day.
- 21:32Like he goes on a trip and he
- 21:33stops in at mayhem affiliates along the
- 21:35way.
- 21:36They find they'll plan their trip
- 21:38sometimes around that.
- 21:39Hey, we're going to stop at this place,
- 21:41you know,
- 21:42so we'll stay here instead of there
- 21:43because we can stop at this place since
- 21:45they may have an affiliate.
- 21:45Can you imagine just like going to your
- 21:48regular eight o'clock class in the morning
- 21:50and there's Rich Froning and Angelou and
- 21:53whoever else is with them,
- 21:54like just drop it in.
- 21:55It's fantastic.
- 21:59Well, you know,
- 22:00I was thinking about it a little bit.
- 22:02When Justin first came on in the twenty
- 22:04twenty games and it was hanging on the
- 22:06runs with Matt and all that stuff like
- 22:09he was very likable.
- 22:10Right.
- 22:11Here's this kid coming out of nowhere
- 22:13doing his thing.
- 22:14And then he won.
- 22:15And I found him not to be likable
- 22:17anymore.
- 22:18I feel like he kind of got in
- 22:20his own head and like what he had
- 22:22to do to retain the title.
- 22:24And was he going to like go on
- 22:26for years like Matt or.
- 22:29And the thing was he never won events.
- 22:32He never dominated the game.
- 22:33So everything was like by a fine line.
- 22:37Now he's doing all this stuff for the
- 22:39community and like he is so likable again.
- 22:43He has totally flipped the script for me
- 22:46on how I feel about him as an
- 22:48athlete and as a person.
- 22:51Think about it.
- 22:52Think about it.
- 22:54Ten more games athletes did that.
- 22:55Not all of them,
- 22:56but not all of them are going to
- 22:57do it.
- 22:57It's not going to happen,
- 22:58but just ten more.
- 23:00Four or five more from the female side
- 23:02and three or four more,
- 23:04whatever the case may be,
- 23:05from the male side.
- 23:05How much more engagement that's going to
- 23:07be?
- 23:08How much more forward-facing that's going
- 23:09to be?
- 23:10How much just leading from the front?
- 23:13You know, hey, yeah, I'm a games athlete.
- 23:16Yes,
- 23:17I'm one of the fittest people on the
- 23:18face of the planet,
- 23:19but I am also a dude, right?
- 23:23The more you get to know these people,
- 23:24the more that you understand them better,
- 23:26the easier it is to follow,
- 23:27and the more engagement you're going to
- 23:29get from people who are not huge fans
- 23:32of the sport or even don't pay attention
- 23:34to the sport.
- 23:35You can say – because you can look
- 23:38to –
- 23:39You're an average person,
- 23:40whatever you want to call that, and go,
- 23:42yeah, that guy won the games last year,
- 23:44and he's at this affiliate over here.
- 23:47He's talking to these people.
- 23:50Because regular professional athletes
- 23:52don't do stuff like that.
- 23:53Or if they do,
- 23:54it's for a photo op, right?
- 23:58Not just dropping in to go coach just
- 24:00because I have time.
- 24:02I don't have anything else to do.
- 24:03I should do this.
- 24:04It's going to be good for everybody.
- 24:07Yeah, no, that's a fantastic thing, dude.
- 24:09And I think it will one hundred percent
- 24:10help to grow,
- 24:11get people back in affiliates, you know,
- 24:14get it, get numbers up.
- 24:15I mean, it's outstanding, dude.
- 24:20Frida says that's really athletes paying
- 24:22it forward.
- 24:23It is.
- 24:23And it's awesome.
- 24:26Sean in Oregon,
- 24:27I appreciate the elite CrossFit athletes
- 24:28interacting with the community.
- 24:30I think everybody does.
- 24:31Like it just gives you a connection with
- 24:33them.
- 24:33Like Corey is saying, like,
- 24:35They're doing what you do.
- 24:36They're in the same style box,
- 24:39doing the same style gym.
- 24:40They're not in their garage.
- 24:41They're not in there.
- 24:42And not to say that training can't be
- 24:46in your garage,
- 24:48but occasionally drop into a class.
- 24:50It makes a huge difference.
- 24:51It humanizes them.
- 25:00Yeah.
- 25:01I wanted to do two more quick updates
- 25:03for sure.
- 25:05One, this is going to be super fast.
- 25:06A couple months ago,
- 25:08we talked about the IF-III Masters
- 25:10competition in Australia.
- 25:13And from the news of water is wet,
- 25:15the sky is blue,
- 25:17there was an independent company that was
- 25:20brought in to see what the deficiencies
- 25:22were.
- 25:23And they said, yes,
- 25:24there were plenty of deficiencies,
- 25:26not staffed well enough,
- 25:28not programmed right, things like that.
- 25:31But what I found kind of fascinating in
- 25:33the fine details of it all were that
- 25:36there were a lot of complaints that they
- 25:37found unfounded.
- 25:40And I think that that's kind of funny.
- 25:43I love my Masters athletes.
- 25:44I love them to death.
- 25:46They are amazing people.
- 25:47I love hanging out and chatting with them.
- 25:50But
- 25:52We Masters athletes know how to complain.
- 25:55So when the wheels came off the bus,
- 25:57it was open season to complain about
- 26:00everything.
- 26:01If complaining was an event at the Masters
- 26:04CrossFit Games,
- 26:05it would be the most tightly contested
- 26:08event of the weekend.
- 26:10Yeah.
- 26:10By far, because everybody's good at it.
- 26:13Yep.
- 26:14And they all have their idea of how
- 26:15things should be and how it should be
- 26:17set up.
- 26:18And again...
- 26:19they are my people.
- 26:21I love hanging out with them.
- 26:22Um, but they,
- 26:24it's hard to get them on a positive
- 26:26trajectory in their conversations at an
- 26:28event.
- 26:30Well, uh, this and well, uh, that,
- 26:34and well, uh, this,
- 26:35there's so much of a dude.
- 26:36I try not to get on that train
- 26:38to the best of my ability.
- 26:39I still do my fair share,
- 26:40but you're not like a lot of anybody,
- 26:42but the amount of it that you hear.
- 26:47And it's just like, man,
- 26:50My favorite one is people complaining
- 26:51about the programming because they program
- 26:54stuff that they're not good at.
- 26:55Hey, bro,
- 26:56that's the entire point of the test is
- 26:57to see what you are actually good at.
- 26:59So I don't complain about the programming
- 27:04much.
- 27:05The only time that is warranted is at
- 27:07the games because that test should be a
- 27:10balanced test to test the first.
- 27:13When you're talking like,
- 27:16legends or masters fitness collective or
- 27:21any of those it's their event they can
- 27:23do whatever they want to do and and
- 27:25that's fine um but when you're talking the
- 27:27games is the only time i give that
- 27:29like a lot of credence right but but
- 27:34the the independent
- 27:38auditor did find plenty of things that the
- 27:40IF-III did incorrectly in that as well.
- 27:43This is my shocked face.
- 27:45Right.
- 27:46This is my shocked face for that.
- 27:49Not having medical people on site was
- 27:53probably the most egregious.
- 27:57But anyway.
- 27:58And then the last thing I wanted to
- 28:00talk about is Pat Vellner announced on his
- 28:04Instagram.
- 28:05It was then reported by the Barbell Spin
- 28:08that, and I have his Instagram here,
- 28:09so I'll pull it up.
- 28:12that he had torn a rotator cuff in
- 28:14the lifting event at the final tour stop
- 28:19at...
- 28:23So you see where he loses the bar
- 28:24behind and he grabs his shoulder.
- 28:27He posted that.
- 28:29He says,
- 28:29been stacking lots of rehab days following
- 28:31this lift in Denmark.
- 28:33Torn rotator cuff, not great.
- 28:34Things happen.
- 28:35Lots of time to get back on track
- 28:37for twenty twenty six.
- 28:38Jack shoulders and rotator cuffs.
- 28:41So I wanted to research quickly because I
- 28:44know like in baseball,
- 28:45a torn rotator cuff is a devastating
- 28:49injury, right?
- 28:51And so like if I looked up like
- 28:53if an athlete has rotator cuff,
- 28:54what is the recovery time?
- 28:56And it appears to me by looking through
- 28:58his stuff that he did not get the
- 29:01surgical solution to this torn rotator
- 29:03cuff.
- 29:03And so he's attempting to rehab it.
- 29:06And if you're just rehabbing it,
- 29:08you can get back in like four to
- 29:09six weeks and
- 29:12If it requires surgery,
- 29:13you're talking four to nine months.
- 29:16Months, yeah.
- 29:19So I was curious to see how this
- 29:20would affect the season,
- 29:22but he has been announced as a participant
- 29:28at Wadapalooza.
- 29:31So he must think that he is going
- 29:33to give it a go at Wadapalooza.
- 29:39I think it's good on him.
- 29:43Good on him if he is.
- 29:44Well, not if he is.
- 29:45Obviously, he is.
- 29:46I saw the same post.
- 29:46You saw that water pollution post that
- 29:48he's coming back and going to be
- 29:50competing.
- 29:52I've never had it.
- 29:54I know several people that did and had
- 29:58the surgery for it or whatnot.
- 29:59And six to nine months,
- 30:03that's a solid thing.
- 30:05solid number my life had it my best
- 30:09one of my best friends in the entire
- 30:10world who is pretty decent level high
- 30:13level masters athlete had it and he's
- 30:17probably still never going to be the same
- 30:19and he's fifty six and he's probably still
- 30:24never going to be as good as he
- 30:25was before just from the rehab and then
- 30:28just losing time right losing time not
- 30:31being able to do anything in the sling
- 30:33the whole nine like it's insane
- 30:36Well,
- 30:36I always go to our expert in the
- 30:38chat, and that's Shanna.
- 30:40She says, I have a fully torn...
- 30:44I don't know why she's swearing at me.
- 30:46Suprasprinatus.
- 30:47I got you on that one.
- 30:49On the right shoulder and still compete at
- 30:51a high level.
- 30:52And she never got it repaired.
- 30:59I had a surgery,
- 31:00and it took me almost nine months.
- 31:01Torn rotator cuff, torn labrum,
- 31:03and a detached bicep.
- 31:04Oh, man.
- 31:08That's bad.
- 31:09No.
- 31:10But by looking at the video,
- 31:11I would say it's a partial tear.
- 31:13I have a partially torn rotator cuff.
- 31:15I can do most CrossFit things.
- 31:17The only thing that is affected is if
- 31:19I tried...
- 31:20If the softball toss was at a competition,
- 31:22I'd be screwed.
- 31:25I want to say...
- 31:27Maybe CJ was talking about it one morning
- 31:29or something like that, that most people,
- 31:31athletes types and non,
- 31:33probably have some sort of partial tear in
- 31:35their rotator cuff.
- 31:36If you've done anything physical in your
- 31:38entire life, that's a good,
- 31:40strong possibility.
- 31:41Yeah,
- 31:41mine happened in a bar fight when I
- 31:43worked as a bouncer.
- 31:46Hey, that's a solid story.
- 31:47I would tell everybody that, you know,
- 31:50I would be at the games,
- 31:53but
- 31:55Yeah.
- 31:56I had to break up a bar fight
- 31:57and yeah.
- 31:59Have you ever seen roadhouse?
- 32:01It's basically the same thing.
- 32:03It was the most,
- 32:05it was the worst fight I'd ever had
- 32:08to break up in all my days of
- 32:10bouncing.
- 32:12Um,
- 32:14what you do in your twenties when you
- 32:16think you're invincible is just ridiculous
- 32:19um yeah i leapt dove over a table
- 32:23it was a football player going ballistic
- 32:27we ended up wrestling and that's how it
- 32:29popped and i ended up in the hospital
- 32:31that night um
- 32:34But yeah, I,
- 32:35I thought I was Superman dove over a
- 32:37table, knocked over drinks everywhere,
- 32:40took the guy to the floor,
- 32:42put his leg in the wing, trying to,
- 32:45to get him to stop.
- 32:47Yeah, it was,
- 32:47it was bad ground and pound baby ground
- 32:50and pound.
- 32:51Yeah.
- 32:55Uh, solid story from, from Jody and Vicki.
- 33:01I would be at the games,
- 33:02but I'm not in shape and I'm old.
- 33:05That's what David said.
- 33:06He looks like Captain America.
- 33:09He's three years older than I am,
- 33:12I think.
- 33:13It's not much.
- 33:14I don't want to hear that shit.
- 33:15That's nonsense.
- 33:18Technically,
- 33:19I've actually been to games way more times
- 33:21than I have because I haven't even gone
- 33:22as a spectator and he's been like two
- 33:24or three years at least.
- 33:27He's one year younger than me.
- 33:29There you go.
- 33:29When you're younger than you,
- 33:31six years older than me.
- 33:34Yeah.
- 33:34That much.
- 33:36That would be forty nine in April.
- 33:39It's just trying to keep up with that
- 33:40wife and kids, man.
- 33:41Well,
- 33:43it's a lot to keep up with his
- 33:45kids.
- 33:46Fantastic.
- 33:49So, yeah,
- 33:50hopefully he gets back because there's
- 33:51been a lot of speculation.
- 33:55Is he going to do the game season
- 33:56this year?
- 33:58guess we'll find out if he signs up
- 33:59for the open.
- 34:00I feel like that's a pretty easy tell.
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:05There seems to be some speculation that he
- 34:07is going to come back and do one
- 34:08more year in the CrossFit game season.
- 34:12It just sucks that he tears a rotator
- 34:15cuff going into it.
- 34:21No.
- 34:22I mean,
- 34:22I won't say it couldn't be that bad,
- 34:24but because...
- 34:27when Brandon tore whatever he tore in his
- 34:30elbow or whatnot,
- 34:30doing the snatch at the games,
- 34:31like he competed and he just,
- 34:33I'd be proofing up and stayed the rest
- 34:34of the weekend.
- 34:35Pat did the same thing, right?
- 34:37Like do that out.
- 34:40Brandon's was pretty gnarly to watch.
- 34:44Cause his elbow went the wrong direction.
- 34:46Uh, Judy is now coaching.
- 34:48Wow.
- 34:49That's awesome.
- 34:51Good chat in our stuff way back in
- 34:54the day.
- 34:55um she wasn't even crossfitting she's
- 35:00hanging out with the crossfit talk and
- 35:02then she joined a gym and now she's
- 35:06yeah wow that's awesome good for her yeah
- 35:13so cool so cool um anything else you
- 35:18want to talk i have about two minutes
- 35:20left before i have do you have the
- 35:22same birthday with tristan
- 35:24April, April, April, April, April, April,
- 35:25April, April, April, April, April, April,
- 35:32April, April, April, April, April, April,
- 35:34April, April, April, April, April,
- 35:49Yeah.
- 35:49My sister was a diver when we were
- 35:50kids and she was really, really good.
- 35:54Um,
- 35:56and when I watched the videos of their
- 35:59son diving, it is like,
- 36:01there's I'm speechless sometimes at how
- 36:05little splash he has when he goes into
- 36:07water.
- 36:08Like the form is amazing.
- 36:11And he dives for Ohio state here.
- 36:14Um, so yeah.
- 36:19Uh, Tyler deadlifted five,
- 36:21fifteen conventional and six,
- 36:22ten on a trap bar.
- 36:26Yep.
- 36:26I do that in my back would be
- 36:28laying on the floor.
- 36:29I'd have to assemble it back together.
- 36:32I deadlifted five hundred once and if I'd
- 36:36never do it again,
- 36:37I will be perfectly fine.
- 36:39I was messed up for four days afterwards.
- 36:42Yeah.
- 36:43I did it once in high school.
- 36:45And then when I was doing the CrossFit
- 36:47thing,
- 36:49my back squat was like a hundred pounds
- 36:51more than my deadlift.
- 36:55Yeah.
- 36:56My back was just,
- 36:57my back just can't support the deadlift,
- 36:59but it's fine when I'm doing a squat.
- 37:02Jeez.
- 37:04So I have the strength.
- 37:05I just don't have the back to be
- 37:08able to lift.
- 37:09And I did hit four hundred, but it.
- 37:12Yeah.
- 37:14it wasn't pretty part is not terrible i
- 37:18can still rep out for fifteen or i
- 37:22say i can't i haven't in quite some
- 37:23time we don't program a whole lot of
- 37:24heavy deadlift so it's a i'll say it's
- 37:28a party trick i mean it's definitely core
- 37:30strength and all that good stuff but it's
- 37:33not something i'm super focused on yeah i
- 37:37i don't really know what my true back
- 37:39squat was when
- 37:41I've not missed a back squat since twenty
- 37:45twelve, twenty thirteen.
- 37:48I've never missed one,
- 37:49so I don't even know.
- 37:50I've never made it to the point where
- 37:51I've had to drop it.
- 37:57I don't think I have.
- 38:01I don't know if I've ever felt like
- 38:03a one rep max attempt.
- 38:05My last one was for four fifteen and
- 38:08it felt like super nice.
- 38:10Like I'm probably four thirty five,
- 38:12four fifty backswater if I had to guess.
- 38:15It's not something I work on.
- 38:16I'm not so much worried about absolute
- 38:19strength as I am just being able to
- 38:23consistently move like I'm strong.
- 38:25I'm going to be strong.
- 38:27I'm not that's not really going anywhere
- 38:28as long as I maintain what I'm doing.
- 38:30I do one squat cycle a year,
- 38:32usually right after the opens finish.
- 38:35Yeah,
- 38:35the highest I hit crossfitting and back
- 38:38squat was about like four eighty.
- 38:41But again, I've never truly maxed it out.
- 38:46By the time you get up to those,
- 38:47like, you need a lot of time, and,
- 38:48like,
- 38:49we never gave ourselves enough time to get
- 38:52up there.
- 38:54By the time, like,
- 38:55we got up in those areas, like,
- 38:56you're running out of the lifting time,
- 38:58and now it's time for the Metcon.
- 38:59Yeah.
- 38:59Nothing like lifting four-eighty and then
- 39:02going to a Metcon and trying to use
- 39:03your legs.
- 39:04So when I first started CrossFit in, like,
- 39:10I was that guy because I had been
- 39:12running a whole lot who, like,
- 39:13loved to –
- 39:15i was like running was programmed i was
- 39:16like yeah cool let's run and we had
- 39:19we did a mile for time one day
- 39:22and it was the first part of it
- 39:23was a back squat workout and i i
- 39:26remember what the back squat workout was
- 39:27but i remember my mile for time at
- 39:29six twenty one was the fastest i had
- 39:31ever run in my entire life that was
- 39:33fun that was good times right there yeah
- 39:38Well, I hate to end this early,
- 39:39but I actually have a meeting in five
- 39:42minutes that I have to get up and
- 39:44get a dress shirt on for.
- 39:47With that, guys,
