- 1:33Speaker 1: The suspect hiding and waiting for his teenage prey with
- 1:36Speaker 1: a large knife and a bottle filled with gasoline. Today,
- 1:40Speaker 1: that victim is sharing her incredible story of survival with me.
- 1:46Speaker 1: All is quiet at the Putney family home on Prospect
- 1:50Speaker 1: Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The family has had an early dinner.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Mom Christian kickback for the rest of the evening. Son
- 1:57Speaker 1: Kylie is playing video games, and Sophia is climbing the
- 2:01Speaker 1: stairs leading to her bedroom. But Sophia has no way
- 2:05Speaker 1: of knowing that behind that bedroom door, a durined stalker
- 2:10Speaker 1: is lying in wait.
- 2:12Speaker 6: It was obsessed with her, and now.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Under the knife, a bottle of gasoline and a lighter,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the love sick maniac is about to plunge Sophia into
- 2:20Speaker 1: a nightmare on Prospect Street.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He looks insane. Honestly, there's no other way to describe it.
- 2:29Speaker 10: Once he says Sophia's face, he was angry.
- 2:32Speaker 2: He has these really piercing blue eyes, but they looked
- 2:37Speaker 2: almost dead to me.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Sophia Putney Wilcox, a Gregaria seventeen year old high school senior,
- 2:46Speaker 1: would miraculously survive to tell of her Harry ordeal in
- 2:49Speaker 1: that Chamber of Horrors. So you come into your room
- 2:56Speaker 1: thinking nothing's wrong, and now fully recovered from the ghastly,
- 3:00Speaker 1: life threatening injuries she suffered. The brave teenager is reliving
- 3:04Speaker 1: with me only on crime Watch Danley. What she thought
- 3:07Speaker 1: would be her last night alive? Did you think you
- 3:11Speaker 1: would die?
- 3:12Speaker 5: Yes?
- 3:12Speaker 2: One, It didn't even cross my mind that there was
- 3:15Speaker 2: a possibility I would make it out. That's funny, what
- 3:22Speaker 2: are you doing?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Until her night of terror, Sophia had always been a happy, fun.
- 3:27Speaker 11: Girl, nice nice swagon swagon, even as a young child,
- 3:35Speaker 11: and she was so pretty that her mother Kristen, kept
- 3:37Speaker 11: a close eye out for her safety.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I was probably overprotective in a lot of ways, and
- 3:43Speaker 4: I was really careful to have her raised in a
- 3:47Speaker 4: warm and loving environment.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And it worked.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it did work. It great kid, Yeah, she has
- 3:52Speaker 4: a great kid, that's for sure.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Kristin became even more vigilant when Sophia, at fourteen years old,
- 3:59Speaker 1: got a crush on a high school classmate named Adam
- 4:02Speaker 1: Si guaja he was your daughter's.
- 4:04Speaker 4: First love, Yeah, very first love.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Really, how did Adam strike you?
- 4:11Speaker 4: Adam has a real innocent face and your eyes was
- 4:14Speaker 4: very quiet and soft spoken, a little shy.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Mom says their relationship appeared to be very sweet and wholesome.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Sophia and Adam were going to church group activities. That
- 4:25Speaker 4: seemed like a really kind of wholesome situation.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Sophia says he was her first true love.
- 4:32Speaker 2: He was just really attractive, charming, funny.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And what did you like most about him? When he
- 4:37Speaker 1: started seeing him?
- 4:38Speaker 2: I liked that he was really mysterious. It was really
- 4:42Speaker 2: hard for me to figure him out. I'm normally really
- 4:45Speaker 2: good at reading people, but with him, it was different.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And Sophia would begin to see a frightening other side
- 4:52Speaker 1: of Adam after they'd been dating for about six months.
- 4:56Speaker 2: He'd do things from like just punching me in the face,
- 5:00Speaker 2: to throwing things at me to choking me. One time
- 5:04Speaker 2: he locked me in a trunk.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Like he locked you in a trunk of a car.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Yeah, why did you put up with it?
- 5:11Speaker 2: I put up with it because I didn't know any better.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Adam just continued to get more violent and abusive. Did
- 5:23Speaker 1: he injure you?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yes, multiple times. I'd get bruises all the time. He'd
- 5:30Speaker 2: hold razors to my throat and other various parts of
- 5:34Speaker 2: my body, so I'd have little scratch marks and stuff.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Sophia says Adam had also become extremely jealous, possessive, and controlling.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I pushed everyone out of my life. It wasn't He
- 5:46Speaker 2: wasn't okay with me having friends, so I didn't really
- 5:49Speaker 2: have anyone to talk to.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Did he keep you from your parents?
- 5:52Speaker 2: He didn't even want me to hang out with my family.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And he started to tell me, you know, you're not
- 5:57Speaker 2: gonna get a job, You're not gonna go to college,
- 6:00Speaker 2: not going to do all these things because there could
- 6:02Speaker 2: be guys there, you could talk to other people, whatever.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And Sophia was keeping the terrible abuse a dark secret.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Did you tell your mom about this?
- 6:13Speaker 5: No?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Why not?
- 6:15Speaker 2: I was scared of what she would think. I didn't
- 6:19Speaker 2: want to disappoint her. I didn't. I was ashamed that
- 6:22Speaker 2: I was letting someone treat me poorly.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Sophia was also afraid that telling her mother might make
- 6:28Speaker 1: Adam even more dangerous.
- 6:30Speaker 4: She knew that if I knew what was really going on,
- 6:32Speaker 4: I would have them break up, and she knew that
- 6:34Speaker 4: that would send him off. You know that he would
- 6:38Speaker 4: go into attack mode.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And that's just what Adam did when Sophia finally dumped
- 6:43Speaker 1: him for cheating on her. And how did he respond.
- 6:48Speaker 2: He would walk to my house, he'd cry, He'd wait
- 6:52Speaker 2: outside for me, He'd watch everything I was doing. He'd
- 6:56Speaker 2: stalked me.
- 6:58Speaker 4: I found that he was looking in the windows. I
- 7:01Speaker 4: became very concerned.
- 7:04Speaker 2: He would sit outside my window and text me everything
- 7:08Speaker 2: that I was doing.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Then a crazed Adam actually broke into the family's apartment
- 7:13Speaker 1: through Sofia's bedroom window, brandishing a knife.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It's the middle of winter. I was literally in a
- 7:21Speaker 2: T shirt and underwear. I wasn't even wearing socks, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: he was telling me to go outside with him, and
- 7:26Speaker 2: I knew I couldn't do that. I knew that if
- 7:28Speaker 2: I walked out with my knife wielding X in the
- 7:31Speaker 2: middle of winter, in the middle of the night, that
- 7:33Speaker 2: I wouldn't come back. He had killed you, Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 7:37Speaker 1: How did you get him to leave.
- 7:39Speaker 2: After hours of just trying to tell him that everything
- 7:44Speaker 2: was okay that I promised I wouldn't call the cops.
- 7:48Speaker 1: He left, but Sophia's mom did call the cops. Well
- 7:52Speaker 1: rest of the Adam on stalking in a soul charm.
- 7:55Speaker 1: A judge put him on four years probation and ordered
- 7:58Speaker 1: him to stay away from Sophia. Did you think he
- 8:01Speaker 1: would solve the problem?
- 8:02Speaker 4: I did, Unfortunately I didn't realize how sick he was.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Next Sophia's nightmare on Prospect Street, as Adam returns like
- 8:13Speaker 1: Freddy Krueger with a knife and bottle of gasoline in
- 8:16Speaker 1: his hands and murder on his mom.
- 8:18Speaker 2: He held the door close and he dumped out the gasoline,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and then he lit it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Sophia Putney Wilcox thought it was just like any other night.
- 8:33Speaker 1: She got home, walked into her bedroom to relax, but
- 8:36Speaker 1: waiting for her under her comforter was a man with
- 8:38Speaker 1: a knife and evil intentions. Seventeen year old Sophia Putney
- 8:44Speaker 1: Wilcox thought she was finally safe from her brutally violent
- 8:48Speaker 1: and abusive ex boyfriend, Adam Shaguajohn.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Adam was arrested right outside my window.
- 8:55Speaker 1: A judge had sentenced eighteen year old Shaguajah to four
- 8:59Speaker 1: years provasion and ordered him to stay away from Sophia
- 9:03Speaker 1: after he'd relentlessly beaten, stalked, and threatened to kill his
- 9:06Speaker 1: former high school sweetheart. He was not supposed to see her, no,
- 9:11Speaker 1: he was, but an obsessed Adam would not be deterred.
- 9:17Speaker 6: He went back to the same old tricks that he'd
- 9:19Speaker 6: used before.
- 9:20Speaker 4: He was trying to contact her right from the beginning.
- 9:26Speaker 2: He texted me hundreds and hundreds of times, spanning my phone.
- 9:34Speaker 2: He was just saying, I'm gonna kill myself.
- 9:36Speaker 5: I'm going to kill you.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And now Adam, rejected and enraged, is ready to make
- 9:42Speaker 1: good on that threat.
- 9:44Speaker 7: He took a small water bottle, filled it up with gasoline,
- 9:48Speaker 7: also had a lighter with him.
- 9:50Speaker 4: I know his intention was to kill her.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Then, late one afternoon, when nobody is home, Adam slips
- 9:56Speaker 1: into Sophia's house through a door he knows is always
- 9:59Speaker 1: left unlocked.
- 10:00Speaker 10: Adam made his way up to Sophia's bedroom. He waited
- 10:04Speaker 10: there for upwards of three hours for her to get home.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And once she does, his anger suddenly explodes into a
- 10:13Speaker 1: jealous rage.
- 10:14Speaker 10: A young man brings Sophia home.
- 10:17Speaker 5: He said he heard a male voice that's what set
- 10:19Speaker 5: him off.
- 10:21Speaker 10: She was with another young man.
- 10:23Speaker 1: The other young man leaves, and Sophia hangs out with mom, Kristen,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and younger brother Kylie before walking up the stairs to
- 10:30Speaker 1: go to her bedroom on the second floor. Behind the door,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Adam is now hiding under a blanket on the bedroom floor,
- 10:37Speaker 1: waiting for Sophia to walk in.
- 10:40Speaker 2: After I close the door, he popped up.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Sophia relives her terror in the very room where she
- 10:47Speaker 1: stared death in the face. What does he do?
- 10:51Speaker 2: He is looking at me crazy and I tried to
- 10:55Speaker 2: tell him, you know, you can leave. It's not too late.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Nobody has to know. We can talk about things, can
- 11:00Speaker 2: work it out.
- 11:01Speaker 1: What a crazed Adam pulls out a knife.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I asked him.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I said, Adam, are you going to kill me?
- 11:07Speaker 2: And he cut me across the chest and he said yes.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Then he presses the knife to Sophia's neck. He must
- 11:16Speaker 1: have been finding out of your mind.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I just kept thinking this is it?
- 11:22Speaker 5: What happened? Next?
- 11:24Speaker 2: I was crying.
- 11:26Speaker 6: I collapsed to the floor.
- 11:28Speaker 2: My mom and my brother were downstairs.
- 11:30Speaker 4: And I heard this thud and Sophie cry out.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Kristen runs to her daughter's.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Bedroom and I grabbed the doorknob and I said, let
- 11:37Speaker 4: me answer.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But Adams pressed his body against the door to keep
- 11:40Speaker 1: it closed. Your mom's trying to get in to this door.
- 11:44Speaker 1: He's holding a shut what's going through your nut?
- 11:47Speaker 5: This is it?
- 11:48Speaker 2: I remember I told my mom that I loved her.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be the last time.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Now, Adam grabs the bottle of gasoline he brought with.
- 11:57Speaker 10: Him and poured it all around himself as he stood
- 12:00Speaker 10: there by the door, and then let himself on fire.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Flames burst it everywhere.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Sophia's mother finally manages to push open the bedroom door.
- 12:12Speaker 6: It just was a wall.
- 12:13Speaker 4: It was like all the way up to the ceiling
- 12:15Speaker 4: of flames, and I couldn't see into the room.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So she starts yelling for my little brother.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Kylie comes up the stairs with a baseball bat because
- 12:23Speaker 4: he's in protective mode already, and he jumped through the flames.
- 12:27Speaker 6: All I can remember is just hitting there.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Adam pulls Sophia in front of him as a human shield.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Kylie just yelled, I'm going to kill you.
- 12:35Speaker 9: I'm going to kill you.
- 12:37Speaker 1: But Kylie is barely able to see through the smoke.
- 12:40Speaker 10: Unfortunately, he missed Adam on one of the swings and
- 12:43Speaker 10: struck Sofia right in the head.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Did you realize you had hit Sophie?
- 12:48Speaker 12: I think so.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Look I get it, and in the mayhem, Kylie chases
- 12:56Speaker 1: Adam away.
- 12:57Speaker 5: He's the reason Sophie's here.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I think Adam was ready to kill her, and only
- 13:01Speaker 1: Kylie's intervention is the reason that she's still ground and
- 13:03Speaker 1: the banged up ex boyfriend makes a dramatic escape. So
- 13:07Speaker 1: Adam goes out that window, slides down the roofline, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: hits the ground one story below.
- 13:13Speaker 6: YEP.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Sophia's mother calls nine to one one as she's rushing
- 13:17Speaker 1: her daughter to the emergency room.
- 13:20Speaker 6: He tried to kill her.
- 13:21Speaker 10: He had a bottleful of gasoline and a lightery through
- 13:24Speaker 10: a bomb are house, trying to get the house to
- 13:26Speaker 10: go open, flames with her.
- 13:27Speaker 7: And him in us.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Christian's frantic and furious.
- 13:30Speaker 9: He needs to be put away.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You can hear a bleeding and critically injured Sophia crying
- 13:36Speaker 1: in the background. I do you have something you can
- 13:41Speaker 1: put on your daughter's hut?
- 13:43Speaker 13: Pressure wherever the cut is, I'm driving well.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Doctor's battle to keep Sophia alive Kalamazoo police hunt for
- 13:50Speaker 1: her wounded ex now on the rut.
- 13:52Speaker 10: He needed medical attention. He was burnt pretty bad and
- 13:56Speaker 10: he had some injuries received from either the bad or
- 13:59Speaker 10: the fall.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Then the next day, an unexpected and bizarre Adam sighting
- 14:08Speaker 1: Kilima Zoo. Cops helping in the search spot him looking
- 14:10Speaker 1: scruffy and weak, walking along the side of a road
- 14:13Speaker 1: towards town.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Get you any dragon camp, Take care of what's going on? Man?
- 14:22Speaker 1: You have your idea?
- 14:22Speaker 5: You no okay?
- 14:25Speaker 1: And the surprisingly simple capture of Adam is recorded on
- 14:28Speaker 1: this police dash cam video showing him being interviewed, frisked,
- 14:33Speaker 1: and arrested for the attack on Sofia. As he's being
- 14:37Speaker 1: taken to a hospital in the back of a police cruiser,
- 14:40Speaker 1: a very calm collected Adam gives a chilling blow by
- 14:43Speaker 1: blow account of his attack.
- 14:45Speaker 9: I didn't want to catch myself on fire to look at.
- 14:48Speaker 9: I obviously had this stuff to doing it right. There's more, leader,
- 14:53Speaker 9: I guess you'd you say a scared attack then, but
- 14:57Speaker 9: by the time I sa from everything as it can now.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Adam is later arraigned on attempted murder and other charges.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Sure you understand what the charges are and whether your
- 15:09Speaker 1: mass or penalties are. While Anam remains locked up a
- 15:14Speaker 1: witting trial, Sophia is out of danger and making a
- 15:17Speaker 1: remarkable recovery from her horrific injuries, which included a fractured
- 15:22Speaker 1: skull and knife wounds to the chest.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I think, deep down, I always knew that something was wrong,
- 15:27Speaker 2: but you don't really acknowledge that.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And from her hospital bed, Sophia bravely delivers this video
- 15:34Speaker 1: message to other young women in abusive relationships.
- 15:37Speaker 2: If you ever get a wrong feeling about something, you
- 15:40Speaker 2: need to go straight to someone and talk to them
- 15:43Speaker 2: about it.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And at Adam's much anticipated trial, laying out a very
- 15:48Speaker 1: rare case of teenage domestic violence, Sophia's emotional testimony commands
- 15:53Speaker 1: the attention of everyone in the courtroom. Sophia weeps she
- 16:00Speaker 1: tells of the terror she endured at his hands.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I was going to die and.
- 16:08Speaker 5: He was pulling me and then.
- 16:11Speaker 8: Bull towards the fire.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Anam beats the attempted murder rat but is found guilty
- 16:17Speaker 1: of the lesser charges of a home invasion and second
- 16:20Speaker 1: degree arson, a ruling that would spark a rally outside
- 16:26Speaker 1: the courthouse by protesters demanding tougher sentences for violent crimes
- 16:30Speaker 1: against women. I want you, I wanted to call you.
- 16:34Speaker 1: The controversy means all eyes are again on Sophia at
- 16:37Speaker 1: Adam sentencing, where she speaks directly to her former sweetheart
- 16:41Speaker 1: about the pain he caused her.
- 16:46Speaker 11: Every time he didn't want.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Adam Shagwaja is sentenced to twenty nine to sixty years
- 16:54Speaker 1: in prison, while Sophia becomes the poster girl for the
- 16:58Speaker 1: anti domestic violence movement.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I get to share my story and hopes that it
- 17:02Speaker 2: won't happen to someone else.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And what's the most important thing you say to these girls?
- 17:07Speaker 2: That they're not alone, that I'm here, that they have options.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Sophia is living proof of the lasting damage such abuse
- 17:20Speaker 1: can cause, admitting she's already living in fear of the
- 17:23Speaker 1: day Adam gets out of prison, even though he's not
- 17:26Speaker 1: eligible for parole for nearly thirty years. Do you worry
- 17:30Speaker 1: that when he gets out he'll come after you again?
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think he will, even in his forties or early
- 17:38Speaker 1: se Yeah. What can you do about that?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Hide, change my name, move out of the state.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You would actually do that?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I'm going to do that for sure.
- 17:49Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 1: That's how much you're afraid of this kid.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm terrified.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Having kids around Sophia's age and spending time with her,
- 17:58Speaker 1: her mother and her brother. It really hits home with
- 18:01Speaker 1: me how amazing her story of survival is. And sticking
- 18:05Speaker 1: with Sophia's message if you or anyone you know is
- 18:08Speaker 1: living in an abusive relationship, we put up information on
- 18:12Speaker 1: places you can turn to for help on our website.

- 19:15Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's an explosive new update on a murder mystery.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Crime Watch Daily has been following an unsolved quadruple murder and.
- 19:25Speaker 14: Counting were all the bodies?
- 19:27Speaker 1: An unstoppable serial killer?
- 19:29Speaker 6: He is a chameleon on the hunt for more.
- 19:32Speaker 14: There's probably more victims out there.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Could the wait for answers finally be over? Senior District
- 19:39Speaker 1: Attorney Jeff Stroulzan invites our cameras in once again.
- 19:43Speaker 7: Last time I was here, I asked you straight up,
- 19:45Speaker 7: do you think this case will ever be solved?
- 19:47Speaker 6: Do you remember what you told me?
- 19:48Speaker 3: I don't remember exactly what I said, but I'm sure
- 19:50Speaker 3: it wasn't optimistic. It wasn't I think the chances are
- 19:54Speaker 3: pretty slim.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And now there's a bombshell breakthrough in the case known
- 19:58Speaker 1: as the Allenstown It was a crime as gruesome and
- 20:03Speaker 1: heartless as it gets in New Hampshire's bear Brooks State Park,
- 20:07Speaker 1: where two barrels are discovered containing the remains of a
- 20:10Speaker 1: woman and three young girls.
- 20:11Speaker 3: That's a cold, hard person, and you'd have to be
- 20:14Speaker 3: to do the things he did.
- 20:16Speaker 1: For decades, the identities of the woman and three little
- 20:19Speaker 1: girls in these police composites remained unknown, and who killed
- 20:23Speaker 1: them became the ultimate murder mystery. Forensics revealed the unknown
- 20:28Speaker 1: bodies in the barrels were likely a twenty three to
- 20:31Speaker 1: thirty three year old mother and her two daughters around
- 20:34Speaker 1: the ages of ten and two years old, but there
- 20:38Speaker 1: was a third child around four years old inside the
- 20:41Speaker 1: barrels too, and not biologically related to the others. It's
- 20:45Speaker 1: an interesting fact our investigative reporter Billy Jensen discussed during
- 20:50Speaker 1: our first visit to the crime scene.
- 20:51Speaker 7: Oh, she could have been stepdaughter, she could have been
- 20:54Speaker 7: a family friend who knows, or could have been just
- 20:57Speaker 7: a serial killer who killed somebody else in this id
- 21:00Speaker 7: to dump it with the other.
- 21:02Speaker 2: That's I mean, that's the million dollar question. And really
- 21:05Speaker 2: so much of the focus of the case has been on,
- 21:07Speaker 2: you know, who is that other little girl.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Within the last couple of years, forensic artists rendered three
- 21:13Speaker 1: D facial reconstructions of the missing woman and children, hoping
- 21:17Speaker 1: it will lead to information regarding their identity, but sadly
- 21:21Speaker 1: no new leads have come in.
- 21:22Speaker 6: We still don't know who our four victims are. In
- 21:25Speaker 6: Alan's tough.
- 21:28Speaker 1: But now a year later.
- 21:29Speaker 6: That was a big moment in the case.
- 21:32Speaker 1: A huge break in the investigation, and it begins three
- 21:36Speaker 1: thousand miles away on the opposite coast in northern California,
- 21:41Speaker 1: where Captain Roxanne Gruenhide, with a Contracosta Sheriff's Office, is
- 21:45Speaker 1: in the middle of her own missing person's case.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Our Crimes against Persons detail received a missing person's case
- 21:53Speaker 5: for a woman named onsoon June.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Soon June, a biotech worker is reported missing by a
- 21:59Speaker 1: friend after she hadn't been heard from in months. Contra
- 22:04Speaker 1: Costa County Sheriff's deputies tracked down her living boyfriend, Lawrence Vanner.
- 22:08Speaker 5: In Richmond, California, where he was working at a corner
- 22:11Speaker 5: convenience store. They spoke with him and he agreed to
- 22:15Speaker 5: come back to our office.
- 22:18Speaker 1: On the ride to the Sheriff's office, Captain Gruenhide sits
- 22:21Speaker 1: in the back seat of the patrol car with Lawrence.
- 22:23Speaker 1: They strike up a friendly conversation.
- 22:25Speaker 5: You know, kind of where are you from? Just making
- 22:28Speaker 5: small talk. He stopped in his tracks what he was saying,
- 22:31Speaker 5: and he turned towards me, and he got really close,
- 22:34Speaker 5: kind of in my personal space in the backseat of
- 22:36Speaker 5: the car, and he said, that's none of your damn business.
- 22:41Speaker 1: His reaction is odd, but so is something else.
- 22:44Speaker 5: His name, the name Larry Vanner or Lawrence William Vanner,
- 22:48Speaker 5: that he provided us the name and the date of birth.
- 22:51Speaker 5: There was no driver's license associated with it, There was
- 22:54Speaker 5: no prior criminal history associated with it.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So who is this Lauren?
- 23:00Speaker 5: The detectives asked him if he would be willing to
- 23:03Speaker 5: go down to our records bureau and for fingerprinting, and
- 23:08Speaker 5: he agreed to do that, and.
- 23:10Speaker 1: When they run as prints, there's a match to someone else.
- 23:14Speaker 5: He was identified as Curtis Mayo Kimball, and he had
- 23:17Speaker 5: been absconded from parole for approximately twelve years. Upon learning
- 23:22Speaker 5: that knowledge, he was under arrest and he was no
- 23:25Speaker 5: longer free to leave.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Cops then go to search his house, hoping to find
- 23:30Speaker 1: clues to the disappearance of his missing girlfriend Unsoon June.
- 23:35Speaker 5: We went to his residence to see if there was
- 23:37Speaker 5: some you know, if miss June was perhaps in the
- 23:40Speaker 5: house being kept in the house or something like that.
- 23:46Speaker 1: June is not in the house. But when they popped
- 23:49Speaker 1: the padlock on the garage.
- 23:50Speaker 5: That I could see from my vantage point was a
- 23:53Speaker 5: very large pile of cat litter, approximately three feet high
- 24:00Speaker 5: by approximately four and a half to five feet around
- 24:04Speaker 5: of just a pile of fresh cat litter.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And then a horrifying discoveries sticking out from under the
- 24:12Speaker 1: pile of litter.
- 24:13Speaker 5: A mummified human foot.
- 24:18Speaker 1: The badly decomposed body is transported to the corners.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Of autopsy was performed. The victim had suffered from bunt
- 24:26Speaker 5: force trauma to the head and dismemberment.
- 24:30Speaker 1: A couple of weeks later, the victim is identified as
- 24:34Speaker 1: the missing Unsun June. Her boyfriend, Lauras Vanner, also known
- 24:39Speaker 1: as Curtis Kimball, is charged with killing his girlfriend. He
- 24:43Speaker 1: pleads guilty to second degree murder and is sentenced to
- 24:46Speaker 1: fifteen years to life. And while prosecutors and police are
- 24:50Speaker 1: certain they got their man, they still aren't certain exactly
- 24:53Speaker 1: who their man is.
- 24:55Speaker 5: There were numerous aka's, there were numerous social secures, He
- 25:00Speaker 5: numbers numerous dates of birth that he had been using.
- 25:04Speaker 5: The investigators at the time tried to ascertain a true
- 25:08Speaker 5: identity on him.
- 25:11Speaker 1: In California alone, this convicted murderer has used the aliases
- 25:15Speaker 1: Lawrence Vanner, Curtis Kimball, and another name, Gordon Jensen, an
- 25:19Speaker 1: alias the Drifter, began using when he skipped out on parole.
- 25:23Speaker 5: What was the parole violation for was for abandoning a
- 25:25Speaker 5: child under the age of fourteen?
- 25:29Speaker 1: And just who was that child? Her name was Lisa,
- 25:33Speaker 1: a five year old girl living with a man then
- 25:36Speaker 1: known as Gordon Jensen at a trailer park in Santa Cruz, California.
- 25:40Speaker 14: At the time, everyone believed he was the father, That's
- 25:43Speaker 14: what he said.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And whatever happened to his little girl, Lisa.
- 25:48Speaker 14: Lisa was put into foster care and was adopted.
- 25:54Speaker 1: But after learning so much about this convicted murderer's legacy
- 25:58Speaker 1: of lies, Captain Gruenheide gets a gut feeling I didn't.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Believe that he was related to her.
- 26:05Speaker 1: In fact, Captain gruhenhide with worries that Lisa may have
- 26:08Speaker 1: been abducted by the man with multiple aliases. That's when
- 26:12Speaker 1: she alerts the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
- 26:15Speaker 1: in the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. The same agency
- 26:19Speaker 1: that investigated the abandon case against Lisa's so called father,
- 26:23Speaker 1: and that's when San Bernardino detectives tell her about potentially
- 26:27Speaker 1: explosive evidence.
- 26:28Speaker 5: They had taken a sample of her blood. I received
- 26:32Speaker 5: a report back that was conclusive that Lawrence William Vanner
- 26:38Speaker 5: or Gordon Jensen, Curtis Mayo Kimball was not biologically related
- 26:43Speaker 5: to Lisa.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So who does she belong to and what could it
- 26:48Speaker 1: mean for the bodies in those barrels?
- 26:50Speaker 14: So Lisa wanted to know who she was, who her
- 26:52Speaker 14: family was. That's when this process started of finding out
- 26:56Speaker 14: who Lisa.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Is coming up.
- 26:59Speaker 5: It blew my mind.
- 27:00Speaker 1: The little girl's ancestry results are in and she's not
- 27:04Speaker 1: from California.
- 27:05Speaker 13: She was from here in New Hampshire.
- 27:07Speaker 6: Were you thinking that it was going to be the
- 27:08Speaker 6: woman in the barrel?
- 27:12Speaker 1: Two girls are found containing something more gruesome than the next. Today,
- 27:16Speaker 1: detectives say they may finally have some answers to this
- 27:20Speaker 1: troubling murder mystery, but they need your help to piece
- 27:23Speaker 1: together the final clues. A convicted murderer with multiple aliases
- 27:29Speaker 1: sits behind bars in a California prison, but years before
- 27:34Speaker 1: he was locked up the deadly drifter abandoned a five
- 27:37Speaker 1: year old girl named Lisa. He claimed she was his daughter,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but DNA tests revealed they weren't related.
- 27:43Speaker 13: The concern was that she had been abducted from somewhere
- 27:47Speaker 13: Lisa's ancestry.
- 27:48Speaker 1: DNA is sent out for testing and there's a hit.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Turns out the abandoned girl is not from California, She's
- 27:55Speaker 1: from New Hampshire.
- 27:57Speaker 13: San Bernardino called us the state police and all the
- 28:00Speaker 13: Manchester Police Department and said, it appears that this lady
- 28:03Speaker 13: that we've been trying to identify actually has family in
- 28:07Speaker 13: New Hampshire.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And after some digging.
- 28:10Speaker 13: Her grandfather in fact still lived in New Hampshire.
- 28:13Speaker 1: And he had a daughter. Her name was Denise Boden.
- 28:16Speaker 13: And it came to light that that man's daughter had
- 28:20Speaker 13: left Manchester in nineteen eighty one with her then boyfriend and.
- 28:24Speaker 1: A six month old baby girl. Denise was never seen
- 28:29Speaker 1: again and is for her baby.
- 28:32Speaker 14: We were able to determine that Lisa was actually Don
- 28:35Speaker 14: Boden and her mother was Denise Boden.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That's right. The one time abandoned little girl has a
- 28:41Speaker 1: name and a hometown full of relatives. So why didn't
- 28:45Speaker 1: any of them file a missing person's report for Lisa's mother.
- 28:49Speaker 14: The boyfriend of Denise Boden. He was able to convince
- 28:52Speaker 14: the family that they owed money to everyone and when
- 28:55Speaker 14: they left town, they did not make a missing person's
- 28:59Speaker 14: report because they believe that they were on the run
- 29:02Speaker 14: from bad debts.
- 29:04Speaker 1: But who is Denise's boyfriend is seen here together in
- 29:07Speaker 1: a rare snapshot. Turns out his name is Bob Evans.
- 29:12Speaker 13: And Manchester began investigating the circumstances of Denise Boden's disappearance
- 29:16Speaker 13: and the connections that it had to this Bob Evans.
- 29:19Speaker 1: And when you Hampshire detectives compare photos of Lisa's mother
- 29:22Speaker 1: and her boyfriend with photos of the California drifter who
- 29:25Speaker 1: abandoned her.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Turns out from looking at photographs that this Bob Evans
- 29:30Speaker 3: from New Hampshire is in fact the same guy who
- 29:32Speaker 3: is known in California with another alias.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yes, and if you're keeping track, the drifter going by
- 29:38Speaker 1: the name Bob Evans in New Hampshire is also known
- 29:41Speaker 1: as Curtis Kimball, Gordon Jensen, and Laurence Vanner from California,
- 29:47Speaker 1: leaving detectives with one chilling conclusion, Denise Bowden isn't missing,
- 29:52Speaker 1: she's dead.
- 29:53Speaker 6: Evans killed her as well.
- 29:56Speaker 1: But where's her body?
- 29:58Speaker 7: Were you thinking that Denise Boden was going to be
- 29:59Speaker 7: the one the barrel?
- 30:00Speaker 10: Who is it?
- 30:01Speaker 13: Real?
- 30:01Speaker 6: Possibility?
- 30:04Speaker 1: Investigators compared Denise's DNA with a woman's body found in
- 30:07Speaker 1: barrels along with three little girls, and the.
- 30:10Speaker 6: Result turns out she's not the person in the barrel.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Then detectives get a hunch and test Bob Evans DNA
- 30:18Speaker 1: against the bodies in the barrels. This time there's a match.
- 30:23Speaker 13: He in fact is the father of the middle Allenstown child,
- 30:26Speaker 13: the one that appeared non related to the other three victims.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And not only is Evans the father of the third child.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Putting it all together, were convinced that he's our killer.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Of those four people in Allenstown.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Plus two girlfriends, Unsun Juhn from California and Denise Boden
- 30:44Speaker 1: from New Hampshire, putting Evans' body count at six.
- 30:49Speaker 6: We don't think Bob Evans is his real name.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But investigators from both coasts believe that the man known
- 30:55Speaker 1: in New Hampshire as Bob Evans is just another alias
- 30:58Speaker 1: to add to an ever growing, and detectives tell our
- 31:02Speaker 1: investigative reporter Billy Jensen that Evans is more than a murderer.
- 31:06Speaker 7: This guy could have left a trail of bodies across
- 31:09Speaker 7: the entire United States.
- 31:11Speaker 14: Absolutely a serial killer.
- 31:14Speaker 13: We've attributed multiple victims to him. That is a great
- 31:17Speaker 13: concern that there's others we don't know about.
- 31:19Speaker 1: So authorities are turning to the public for help. They
- 31:22Speaker 1: want to identify the man who used six known aliases
- 31:26Speaker 1: Larry Vanner, Curtis Mayo, Kimball, Gordon Jensen, and Bob Evans,
- 31:31Speaker 1: plus two other named surface Jerry Gorman and Jerry Mockerman.
- 31:36Speaker 1: The Chameleon Killer resided in several states, but mainly New Hampshire, California, Idaho,
- 31:41Speaker 1: and Texas. Authorities confirmed that Evans lived in New Hampshire
- 31:46Speaker 1: from nineteen seventy seven to nineteen eighty one and all
- 31:49Speaker 1: over the state of California from nineteen eighty four to
- 31:52Speaker 1: two thousand and two up until he was arrested for murder. Also,
- 31:56Speaker 1: detectives claim Evans had a specific mo eating single mothers.
- 32:01Speaker 13: He does show a pattern of befriending vulnerable women and
- 32:05Speaker 13: isolating them.
- 32:07Speaker 1: But before investigators in New Hampshire can interview Evans about
- 32:11Speaker 1: all the new clues and victims. He dies in prison
- 32:14Speaker 1: from natural causes, but there was one person who spoke
- 32:18Speaker 1: to this cold blooded killer when she arrested him from
- 32:21Speaker 1: what she thought at the time was his only murder.
- 32:25Speaker 5: Nice to meet you.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Finally the investigators from opposite coasts meet for the first time.
- 32:34Speaker 3: It's interesting for me to actually meet somebody who talked
- 32:37Speaker 3: to this guy, you know, because obviously with the picture
- 32:39Speaker 3: we have of him as pictures, and you know, I've
- 32:41Speaker 3: never heard his voice.
- 32:42Speaker 6: So somebody who could turn in a moment.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Huh, turn in a moment. And then the connection between
- 32:48Speaker 5: you know, California and Contra Costa County and San Bernardino
- 32:52Speaker 5: County and bringing bringing that to New Hampshire and then
- 32:56Speaker 5: connecting to your case. Just I it's it's un and.
- 33:00Speaker 13: Intuitively it sounds like you knew you were just scratching
- 33:03Speaker 13: the surface with this guy.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Yes you know what was underneath.
- 33:05Speaker 13: I mean, all these years later to come out and
- 33:07Speaker 13: coast to coast, it's amazing.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Prime Watch Daily reached out to Evans's only known living victim, Lisa.
- 33:13Speaker 1: She prefers to keep her life private, but released this statement.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I'm so thankful to be reunited with my grandfather and
- 33:20Speaker 1: cousins after all of these years. I want to send
- 33:23Speaker 1: out a heartfelt thank you to all of the organization's
- 33:26Speaker 1: and tireless individuals who made this possible. Lisa's statement continues.
- 33:32Speaker 14: Please turn your focus towards the unidentified victims and other
- 33:35Speaker 14: potentially unknown victims in this case, and hopefully their families
- 33:39Speaker 14: will also be offered some closure as this investigation continues.
- 33:44Speaker 14: Thank you, Lisa.
- 33:46Speaker 1: With potential unknown victims all across the US, this case
- 33:50Speaker 1: is far from over, and still three of the four
- 33:53Speaker 1: bodies found in those barrels remain unidentified.
- 33:57Speaker 6: And this case is backwards.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Usually we solve our cases by knowing who our victims
- 34:01Speaker 3: are and that those connections lead us to our perpetrator. Here,
- 34:05Speaker 3: we know who our perpetrator is, at least who we
- 34:08Speaker 3: think he is, but we have a lot more work
- 34:10Speaker 3: to affair exactly who they are, who he was, and
- 34:13Speaker 3: who the rest of his victims were.
- 34:16Speaker 1: It's shocking that an entire family has wiped out and
- 34:19Speaker 1: no one reports them missing. Now it's up to you,
- 34:22Speaker 1: our viewers, to help piece together the missing parts for
- 34:25Speaker 1: detectives here are three composite sketches of what the still
- 34:29Speaker 1: unidentified victims would have looked like at the time they
- 34:32Speaker 1: were murdered. If you recognize who they are, or you
- 34:35Speaker 1: recognize this man, the suspected serial killer who was with them,
- 34:39Speaker 1: called the New Hampshire State Police at one six oh
- 34:42Speaker 1: three two two three thirty eight fifty six, or send
- 34:45Speaker 1: us a tip on our website Crimewatch Daily dot com.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Up next, a Property Wars star busted Prime Watch Daily
- 34:55Speaker 1: with all new details on the headline making arrest and
- 34:58Speaker 1: his furniture store. Help me out. Now to Arizona, where
- 35:05Speaker 1: we're learning more about a popular reality TV star are
- 35:08Speaker 1: arrested in a massive joint investigation between the Department of
- 35:11Speaker 1: Homeland Security and the IRS. Our Paalo Lama is teaming
- 35:15Speaker 1: up with our affiliate ABC fifteen in Phoenix, which broke
- 35:18Speaker 1: the story, and she has the very letters. Is this
- 35:21Speaker 1: thing gonna stop?
- 35:21Speaker 7: Say?
- 35:22Speaker 12: He made his mark as the star of Discoveries now
- 35:24Speaker 12: defunct Property Wars.
- 35:26Speaker 8: Here in the valley is kind of like a local celebrity.
- 35:29Speaker 12: Think Brooklyn, thunderstorm hits the Arizona Desert.
- 35:32Speaker 1: It's a blackhouse in a good location. It's kind of
- 35:35Speaker 1: like the ugly girl at a bachelorette party, surrounded by
- 35:38Speaker 1: all the good looking friends.
- 35:39Speaker 12: The East Coast tough guy bitting big dollars against other
- 35:43Speaker 12: investors for homes.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Auction president coming through.
- 35:46Speaker 8: He's a New Yorker, very bold personality, would go in
- 35:49Speaker 8: try to get these great deals.
- 35:50Speaker 12: But now could Scott Managet's fifteen minutes of fame as
- 35:54Speaker 12: a property warrior turn into a lifetime behind bars? Crime
- 36:02Speaker 12: wats Daily's Phoenix affiliate, ABC fifteen bringing us this exclusive
- 36:06Speaker 12: footage of a federal raid on Managgad's Arizona furniture store empire,
- 36:11Speaker 12: and based on this fourteen page indictment, the furniture King
- 36:15Speaker 12: may soon have a new moniker, the King of Greed.
- 36:19Speaker 9: We know that the.
- 36:19Speaker 8: Feds were tipped off, now to the extent of that,
- 36:21Speaker 8: and how many people have called in possibly complaining about that,
- 36:25Speaker 8: That's what we don't know.
- 36:26Speaker 12: Managad allegedly bilking banks with a phony credit scheme, using
- 36:31Speaker 12: the identities of deceased people or stealing the identities of
- 36:36Speaker 12: those still living.
- 36:37Speaker 8: Essentially, managged and three others set up fake lines of
- 36:41Speaker 8: credits with banks under fraudulent names, and then they made
- 36:45Speaker 8: these huge purchases at the furniture store, and then they
- 36:48Speaker 8: would put that charge through to the banks and then
- 36:51Speaker 8: just pocket all that money.
- 36:53Speaker 12: Where did Managad allegedly obtain the identities? Remember, he's a
- 36:58Speaker 12: real estate man with access to all kinds of documents
- 37:01Speaker 12: filled with personal information, so he knows who's buying, who's selling,
- 37:06Speaker 12: who's alive, and who's dead. Managged and three other co
- 37:10Speaker 12: defendants have been charged with multiple felon accounts, including bank
- 37:14Speaker 12: fraud and aggravated identity theft to the tune of more
- 37:18Speaker 12: than two million dollars according to this indictment. But for
- 37:22Speaker 12: this property War's bossy bidster, it may be just the
- 37:26Speaker 12: start of his problems. Crimach Daily has just obtained this
- 37:30Speaker 12: transcript of a deposition given by Benagad involving yet another
- 37:36Speaker 12: alleged multi million dollar scheme. According to the deposition, Managgad
- 37:43Speaker 12: allegedly falsified documents in order to take out multiple loans
- 37:48Speaker 12: on the very same property. It reportedly worked like this,
- 37:52Speaker 12: Managad buys a house with one loan, then pockets all
- 37:55Speaker 12: the money from the other loans he's secured for the
