- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like a lot of guys, I was stuck in that cycle starting over again and again, frustrated, guessing what to eat.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: Then I started to wake in 180 weight loss nine weeks ago.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm down almost 35 pounds now under 200 pounds for the first time in the years.

- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, folks, triple coverage podcast live here on the built in Buffalo podcast network.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: I am Lance Nelson, president of built in Buffalo to my left tonight.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: The owner of built in Buffalo Dave Myers and to my right is Benjamin shoe substitute.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing much, I decided to get into the mini camp and I was good everybody was there.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: So there's one of those things where you got some news, you know, still in that new cycle of it.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's nothing really huge, but still stuff to talk about and be able to get into when it comes to just what we can look forward to going into then the next few months into training camp.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Dave, what's going on?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: Brother, thanks for joining us here tonight to talk a little mini camp.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: You will fire it up to see some bills on a practice field.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, football is back.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I guess.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: Sort of yeah, it's good to see a lot of the newer faces and obviously it's nice to see the updates of the guys that either end of the season injured or missed some of the season last year due to injuries like Michael Holden stuff like that so but yeah I'm fired up.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: We got about 48ish days until they're actually back at training camp so it can be fun it's it's nice to see the new staff so I think this OTA slash mini camp.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Being led by somebody different has kind of been an adjustment for a lot of us, you know, obviously we should push on with German for the last nine years.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, no, it's exciting and I'm looking forward to seeing what this group looks like come July.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the first thing just to jump right into what's going on at one bill is drive is they made some roster moves right at the end of the day for them during a strong wave to a non-fulball injury designation, hoping he clears waivers and
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: intending to put him on IR obviously.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: They waved Desmond Reed and Gabriel Benjard and then they signed Devon Tompkins, who was on the Bucks Panthers and Falcons over his career so far, mostly practice squad and then signed rookie from Youngstown State Max Tomzack.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: What do you make of any of the moves there Ben?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: You have one move over another that really you want to talk about?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of a game right now of who do you want coming in for for the practices and who do you want there for camp bodies.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Thompson or Tomkins was actually brought in for a workout yesterday, so that was quick work for him being able to get the workout in yesterday and today signing.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, during strong, that's one.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I expect him to get through waivers.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be shocked if somebody claims player that's going into a second season that is coming off of a major neck injury that they still don't know if he'll ever really play again.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'd imagine he gets through IR spends the year on IR and then we've revisited again next off season to see hey he's going to be able to have a play.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, situation that it's been for him, but yeah, I do expect him to clear waivers and move to IR for the bills.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Dave, you have anything to add on the roster moves the bills made to it.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: And they're just camp bodies.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if I'm being honest, a lot of this stuff is they need 91 because of we have the international player.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's just camp devs, and they're going to need guys to run as many sets of offense defense special teams as they want.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: You never know one guy might stand out and make the practice quad.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: But we were talking to our group chat earlier about Dorian's strong, and it's just a tough story.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of hard to not be upset about a guy that had so much problems, especially after he was here in camp last year and he looked like he was going to be a guy that was going to be something for the team so hopefully.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like Schupe said, hopefully he gets through waivers to get the bills put them on IR for the rest of the season.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's able to come back and at least the bills get and training staff get to have a look at him, going forward into your three to see if this is obviously something that he can do.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: But you never like to hear about stuff like that, especially with neck injuries.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I know he's been at camp.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: We've got some footage of him working off to the side, just hanging out with the neck brace and stuff on.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: just you know we have to think about this guy you know he won the lottery admitted to the NFL and it was taken away from a pretty quick so it's a tough story but hopefully you know he can pull through and you know he could be a contributor maybe next season
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, speaking of roster, if I can add the little bit here, you said 91, they're at 90.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: So if they're going to add someone to make 91, what's the next position or what position will that next player be or even venture a guess of who it might be to get this roster to 91, then you have any thoughts on that?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: If I had to go position, I'd have to think it has to be cornered up.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we talked a few weeks ago about Jim Leonard and how much she emphasized the pick of IGB of
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: him saying they need cornered up and right now behind I do be I mean you don't really have much so uh... i could see corner being the one maybe you got a tray white comes back your idea is white i mean i know i feel a lot of bills fans i think would be a fan of that it's just more i guess would he fit with jim wonder wants to do in the defense being older that comment had injuries in his career
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Even though he did look better last year, it's still a big question of like, is he really worth being that fourth boundary corner in that order there, probably?
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're fighting at least with number three for IGV, or with IBG, or I can't speak right now, excuse me.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's going to be maybe him, not really sure there's not really a ton of guys out there.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: For depth corner when it comes to, you know, household names, I guess, and usually if there's still out there in the air household names, it's because they are around the corner and on the down slope of their career.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see, but I do, I don't imagine it has to be, it has to be either corner or linebacker to me, but I would lean corner as my guess.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: Dave, what do you think?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree with shoot, but I was also thinking about this earlier and looking at the injury to Dorian Williams.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know how severe it is.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, they have a month and a half before they're actually back or before they get to St. John Fisher.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: So depending on what
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Leonard wants to deploy as far as how many guys they want to roster, um, I think you get a little wider receiver too.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: I know Joshua Palmer has, he was back the past couple days actually doing some of the team activities instead of just working off to the side, um, and Josh Palmer's a guy that I, I think that at some point during the show, we should have absolutely spent some time talking on the bills wider receivers because, I mean, Brandon Cooks has been making the rounds the last couple weeks on the national media talking about how he would love
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: As far as contract-wise, that could fit that one cost a bunch, he was here last year, it seemed to start working towards the end of the season.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's a guy that could come in and stretch the field and do some other things.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I think linebacker you have to definitely look at, depending on how long, during whims, I mean, he's been on crutches at Manitory Mini Camp.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: So we don't know if that's just precautionary.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: Because I think they're stacked everywhere else.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think defensive line they're good.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think offensive line they're good.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Safety they're good.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: Corner like Schupe said they probably want to bring someone in just to take a look.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: Because we don't really match what Harrison was in and out of the line in the last year.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: IGB I feel like it's going to be pushing him for starting snaps too.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: And that's obviously a different story for it if you show.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, you got to look middle, you know.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: linebacker, corner, and then probably wide receiver.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'll probably the three glaring positions of me right now.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure, you mentioned Dorian Williams being injured.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just mention that real quick.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you want, I don't mind.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's spend just two or three minutes talking about that wide receiver crew.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: So Dorian Williams, you know, Lord body injury of some sort.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: So not sure when he picked it up assuming it's an offseason thing, probably outside of the football field.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that's why it's being kept the way it is.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not exactly sure we don't know Joe Brady kept it.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: tight to the vest.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see how that progresses.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he is ready.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone in the building at least including door and Williams is suspected to be full go and ready for training camp according to Joe Brady.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see how that actually.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: plays out.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Cole Bishop had as knee cleaned up in the off season here, so he's getting back from that.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Spencer Brown, Skeptical about maybe just resting the back and making sure stays fresh for camp.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Not anything concrete there, Skylar Bell.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Also,
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: not anything concrete that I was aware of.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: But if you guys know something, I don't that's fair.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, catching balls from jugs machine and, you know, spending some time maybe away from individuals or team drills, which is an ideal for the rookie, but he's going to get plenty of chances.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure as training camp gets going and then the one injury news, bit of news that I am just
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, psyched out of my mind about is Michael Hoyt like he mentioned also before Dave doing individual drills and looking like a guy that can potentially without setback be ready to shoot up right from the get go a week one and if that's the case this bill's defense gets a whole lot better real quick so thoughts on the injuries guys real quick and he won that you want to highlight
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, the whole year one is the one that throughout the off season and the rest of the off season and the training camp is definitely going to be the one I'm probably keeping my eyes on the most.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, nothing really too major to being up and not like cautious about what these guys are really just be.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: like worried about with anybody.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, Hoid's the one that like you mentioned.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's he's it.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's looked like he could be that difference maker.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: The defense needed last year and it was unfortunate.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: He got hurt so quick.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I imagine that Jim Leonard is.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: aesthetic about the idea of having a guy that can really be that chest piece that can do it all and, you know, do whatever you need.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see Hoy, Skyler Bell.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he didn't see too much on him.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't seem like they had much information on why he or what it was or what was really going on.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: But he's one that I guess if he were to have something going in a training camp.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: That would be something that I would definitely then think, yeah, I think it is a higher possibility that maybe a guy like Dave mentioned like Brandon cooks could be an option that they bring in if they think Skylar Bell has something that might linger or just maybe be something to keep an eye on going into the season.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: So not too much not really worried about any of them, but definitely those two are the ones that stand out to me.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Dave Myers, tell us all of your thoughts on those injuries.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: All right, Dorian Williams.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've all known for four years that Dorian Williams is a study.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's a genetic freak and a lot of the bills staff and players who said that he's the most talented, physically gifted player on the team.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: He just, if you watch him, he has a high military runs around with his hair on fire.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think I feel like why he kind of fell in the draft a little bit was because it has a wingspan for what he does is a hybrid kind of linebacker so he can do inside outside whatever you kind of need him to do.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I think a lot of teams that were looking at linebackers in the draft early wanted guys that knew that they were setting still on their actual what their position is going to be.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know same thing with Jalen Kilgore like he's a hybrid.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: So he fell to the bills because
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's teams wanted a safety or a corner and he can do both.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: So with Dorian Williams, I feel like it's a contract here, right?
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: So he's going to be betting on himself all season, right?
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: So hopefully he's going to do the right thing.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to get ready to go on July and we can have a real competition.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: But from everything you've heard from the Bill's media guys and everything you've seen, like Caleb Eularm's or is basically that guy playing Nexatural Bernard right now.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's been the general of the huddles.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's been just surpassing all the expectations that they had for him.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: And he seems like from what Joe Brady said, and I guess from what Jim Leonard said as well, they're trying to dump as much on these guys as possible as far as information overload.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: Just so that they can see what they can retain coming back in July and apparently he learns or has just he's just so fit up like a sponge.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm excited to see that Cole Bishop obviously he had a knee scope.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: He's been on record countless times in that he'll be good to go in July.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was just a routine procedure that he wanted to have some stuff cleaned up.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Spencer Brown you mentioned Spencer Brown.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like this is just built the bills being cautious about a massive human being that has had back issues in the past and they're just what's he going to do out there?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to do some drills and just kind of run around.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's what the offensive alignment have been doing.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: They just been pairing off and just kind of been doing independent drills and stuff like that.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Who else was on a list?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: Who am I forgetting?
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: Skyler Bell.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: So I did see something he had a sleeve on his left leg and I did see a report that it was a hamstring issue.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not a good sign if he's having some soft tissue issues already.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: But again, that wasn't confirmed.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: It could have been a myriad of different things.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then Michael Hoyt, if you ask Michael Hoyt how long he's been out, he will tell you exactly how many months and days he's been out.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then he'll also tell you how many months and days
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and I don't know if you guys have been paying attention to like the videos that the bills, uh, meeting you guys have been putting now, it's things like every day for the last three or four weeks, he's been doing more and more and he looks more and more close, if that makes sense.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like the footwork's there, there was a drill I saw from yesterday where they were hitting the tackling dummies and when he hit the tackling dummy, he was on the ground punching it.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could tell this guy just lives breathe, he's an animal.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like what we got from him for for seven quarters last season, we're going to get even more from him because I feel like he's going to be kept off the leash even less.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: Now, like I feel like Jim Lunders is going to tell me go out there and get after it.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now, there may be some regression early on because he's coming back from, you know, that they
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: he's going to be extremely fun to watch so i'm i'm excited to see that i'm excited to see if if he's back on the field when these guys when they put pads on i'm in training camp so yeah i'm excited
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: Royce coming in here, do you think Caleb e-learns or can win the starting job over Williams?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: 100% I think he was handpicked for that role and I think we talked about a little bit of that last week during our defensive show, but I think that's exactly why he's here and it's his role of grass, but he's going to have every opportunity in my opinion to do just that Royce.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: So appreciate the question.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't done so yet, please like and share this episode on Facebook.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on X, give it a repost and a like as well.

- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: We appreciate all the support from you out there.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: We are sponsored here by a big tree in.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's wing night at the big tree in 75 sent wings.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't had dinner yet, go out there, get yourself some Murphy wings or other flavors that you like.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: And 75 sent wings, you can't beat that.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: We already mentioned a Waken 180 wheat loss, greatly appreciate the opportunity to awaken 180 wheat loss has given me to change my life while still eating burgers and wings.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the best parts.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Wingnuts Buffalo, appreciate them with room 40 there, accommodating us to do player interviews, and other things like that.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I get over a room 40 book, your party there today.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: 7-1-slicks, barbershop, book your cut here on the cut app with Dennis and his crew.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're over on Broadway in Dupue.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: So get over there, get your 7-1 slicker and get looking good for this summer.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's start into the mini camp.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Talk a little bit more.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: Start out.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned talking about the skill positions a little bit in the wider receiver.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Allen talked a lot about building chemistry with DJ Moore and everybody.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: When they brought up just DJ Moore, Josh said, I have to build my chemistry with everybody here and just keep improving it.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: So the wider receiver group looks pretty solid here.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: from, you know, the top three, D.J.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Moore, Cleo Schkeer, Kiankelman, maybe at three.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to see Josh Palmer, but I also have read and heard some things about being a potential cut candidate.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious about that if they do bring in someone like Cooks or maybe even a reunion with Stefan Diggs.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: So like,
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one of those things where the wide receiver room could get real interesting.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of guys here.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a cool hardman still here.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: Shavers is still there coming back.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: You have Trent Sherfield.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Your boy.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: So like you got a lot of dudes there.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think they do probably still add a free agent to this group, but just give your thoughts on how important this is really for this time of year building chemistry between AL and and those skill positions.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think especially when it comes to the new guys, it's especially important.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like you go get DJ Moore and this is the time where it's crucial with
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Skylar Bell, same thing, even though I know Skylar Bell may not be doing everything right now.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's still the communication aspect we talked a week or two ago again about how much even Joe Brady emphasized communication at this aspect.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's not so much with the exes in us right now when it comes to who's doing the best on the field.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's who off the field is going to be able to get in the right mindset and whether it's
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: they need to be able to communicate and be able to, the leaders need to be able to get on the same page and show, this is the time that the leaders really need to show that they are going to be the guys on this team to go to.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, it's huge during this time for Allen, especially.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think you've seen especially over the past few years, how much it can really hurt an offense when guys aren't on the same page.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen Kian not be on the same page, or if you've seen Josh Palmer.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you just go down the line that's guy, it's been a mess when it comes to certain times of the game with these new red even raining cooks last year.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: There were times that they weren't on the same page.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, it's super important right now for them.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's the really the number one goal for them is to get on that same page and build chemistry.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: So excited to kind of see how much progress they can get before a training camp when it comes to that.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of the key on Coleman stuff, we need to kind of pay attention to some of the things and then obviously they've been doing a lot of positive reinforcement out in public as far as Brandon being Joe Brady, saying you know about how much he's going to be a part of this team and things like that.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he was also kind of put into a box where they threw him out in front of everything, right?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't do that with TJ Parker, they didn't do that with Maxwell Hirston, like they didn't do all the stuff that Keyon was forced to do when he was drafted, you know, with the cookies and the yellow jacket and going into the cryogenic chamber, walk in the field, like they didn't do any of that stuff.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like,
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: Exposure is good until it's not, right?
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: So when I hear from Joe Brady that the best thing that could happen to Kian Coleman was that he became a head coach, I actually believe it.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I believe it because we know that there's certain coaches that vibe differently with player.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: They relate to those players.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that Sean McDermott was overly hard on Kian Coleman and just Kian couldn't take it and that's why the whole stuff happened this past year.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: He and Coleman's going to be on this team, this year and I believe he's going to be on this team next year.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's on a cheap four-year rookie deal, as far as wide receiver threes go in the NFL.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's pretty underpaid, probably for what they're going to ask him to do.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: Now, when you talk about Joshua Palmer, I feel like this is a guy that we're going to have to kind of keep an eye on the next 48 days and kind of see if he's on the roster come July.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: because if you trade him, there's teams that need wide receiver depth.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're absolutely as teams that need wide receiver depth.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: And if you can trade him, you know, maybe you can recoup a six round pick or something.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: You can free up $10 million this season.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: If you cut him, you only save $2 million.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then you have a bunch of deadcap.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, I'm rooting for the guy, you know, I feel like it's funny because I compare his situation in a Michael Holtz situation last year, where
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: They both got injured, they both missed a chunk of time, but you could tell the impact that you saw from like a white one who was out there for just seven quarters.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like we didn't really get a huge key moment when we're like, okay, now we know why they went out and got Joshua Palmer.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: There was some spots during the Atlanta game before we got injured where he looked really good.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: He had that catch against the Ravens in week one, but
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: There hasn't really been those moments where you're like, okay, the stat nerds were right.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he gets down field.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: He creates separation.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yards after catch, like all the stuff that all the analytics guys were talking about was a perfect match for Josh Allen because we hadn't had that since Stefan Diggs left.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: So it's gonna be interesting to see, obviously D.J.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: Moore.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: This may be like just an outlandish take, but I feel like DJ Moore is going to have a better season than AJ Brown is like you could call me crazy.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: You can think I'm nuts.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like DJ Moore was two things can be true.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: DJ Moore can do that and you're still crazy and nuts.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: A hundred percent.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: A hundred percent.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: When he was in Chicago playing with Justin Fields, he made Justin Fields look like an all-procorder back.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: Even Caleb Williams first year, he looked really good.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: Now last year, they had a brand new offensive coordinator that wanted things done a certain way and they even brought in new skill position players to fit into Ben Johnson's offense.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they did.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like,
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's never been injured.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: He's very durable.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he can stretch the field.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: He can do the dirty routes.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: When I say dirty routes, the ones that are the scrambled drill routes for Josh that he loves, where you just come back to him, or you run around until he wants to throw you the ball.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he's still got it.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: And pairing that with hopefully a healthy don't-in-concated no-he's skill positions.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't why it received her.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: Haven't a healthy don't buy roadskill positions there on purpose.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think haven't a healthy don't concave.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Not a lot of people are talking about what it's going to do for the rest of the offense, right?
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: Not just DJ Moore, but haven't a healthy don't concave opens up a lot of stuff, too, because if you watch the games that he was healthy, the offense is completely different when don't concave plays.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like he just doesn't do the typical tight end intermediate stuff like Josh was feeding him the ball down field.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: And one that comes to mind was that Kansas city game where don't they had no answer for Dalton can hate.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's a team that plays three linebackers in a bunch of DBs.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: So, I, oh no, I feel like one, one and two, we're good.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: We know we're going to get our secure.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to get 80 catches, 800 yards, a bunch of bubble screens, DJ Moore.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: We know I think what we're going to get from him.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be Josh's new favorite target, probably 120 targets.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: But then after that, an African cade, it's like, all right, where are these other guys going to fit in?
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I think when it comes to camp,
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: in July and into August, I feel like that's what I want to see.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see if the bills are going to keep force feeding Kian or if Kian's going to take on more of a role of A.L.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: do some pump returns and things like that.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: Conductor Palmer stay healthy.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they add another wide receiver.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's going to be intriguing and in the camp.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like if these guys are healthy and they meet most of their expectations, I feel like we have a really good skill position set of players for Josh Allen this year.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one of the guys you guys didn't mention, I'm not going to just repeat everything you already said, because I, you know, agree with most of what was there, but Jackson Hall is another guy who, you know, is young guy coming in also, we don't know exactly what the tight end usage will be.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: how many heavy sets they'll have or what the rotation might be to keep guys load managed and things like that.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to see maybe a growing role for Jackson Haas potentially as well or just growing chemistry at least.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I like Roy's comment here, you know, I completely agree.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to I'm waiting on some some video stuff to to go here, but I think Josh Palmer
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: is going to be if you look at some of his tape from the early games, the Baltimore game, for sure he got separation in some key moments.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: The Atlanta game before he got hurt, he was getting separation.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: So there wasn't the consistency in the six weeks.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: He was on the field before getting hurt.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that if you look at some of those plays that he did make,
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's something to take from that and I I still believe in Palmer, but You know, there's still people that think that he could be the odd man out here and then they could bring in some of my cooks To get a whole can I play devil's advocate for a second because he don't mean so America So Joshua Palmer was healthy in the playoffs, right?
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he was right.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's in man.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking about the playoffs.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: He was healthy in the postseason
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he's healthy enough to play, but I don't think he was 100%.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, I saw what Brandon Cooks was able to do in the postseason.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I saw, and I'll say what you wanted with the last play, the season for whatever.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: But, and I also saw that Josh Palmer, you know, if he was healthy or not, your best ability is your availability, right?
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody knows that.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: And you're paying this guy $11 million this year.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: And you could probably go get somebody like a Brandon Cooks for probably three million, four million, maybe if that.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, that's like, I want Joshua Palmer to work out because of two reasons why.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he is a good downhill threat and I also know he's making a bunch of money.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: These middle-tier contracts that the bills give to wide receivers, we get, like, we get no return on investment.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, that's why I'm hoping it works.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, we can actually say we signed Joshua Palmer.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: He had 45 receptions.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: He scored five touchdowns.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: He made some big
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: but I just don't know if he's already come into camp like injured.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: Undisclosed injured, he hasn't been doing all the normal stuff up until the last two days.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: So is it something that's going to linger again all season?
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: So that's why I said earlier, if you can get something for him, you should get something for him.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: It would stink because he was only here for a year, but look at what happened with Curtis Samuel and look at what happened with Elijah Moore and all these guys, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: So having sex doesn't stink.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, it's unfortunate for him if it doesn't work out.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's unfortunate that the bill spent assets and might lose some dead cap there or whatnot.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, it is what it is.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: You got to do what you got to do to win.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like Palmer could help them if he's right.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: And now if he can't get right and he can't get the availability, then I totally agree you have to figure out what to do from there.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think at 100% health with his ability, I think he does provide,
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: provide help.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, all right, next topic real quick here, we can kind of go through some of our, you know, favorite moments or, you know, highlights or what you will for the mini camp, but.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about the Joe Brady effect on this team to earn the mini camp?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything that, you know, stuck out to you, he had his press conference, you saw he changed up the schedule a little bit for the guys going a little bit later in the day with the practices, right?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's been reported that there's looser vibes, you know, he's now cheering for the defense, which is a weird thing for some of the offensive guys, which has been talked about in the media.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, take something maybe and just let me know what you think about the Joe Brady effect overall on this team, how how you kind of have perceived it in this mini camp session and anything you think of how that propels to training camp and the regular season for this squad.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm wondering, well, because it's almost seems like it's like a 180, complete 180, right?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's McDermott was come show up, do your job, do what you need to do, like, be professional, what's, you know, every little thing to it to a T as to be detail oriented.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of just seems like this is,
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, we're still going to be professional.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: We're still going to get to work, but at the same time, we're here to play football, and we're here to, you know, bond as a team and have fun and make some play.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's good for a lot of these guys.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think even for a guy like Josh, who now is going, you know, going into his 30s and he's not getting any younger.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think for him, especially the past two, two or three years.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like the pressure has been so great on these guys.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think McDermott even kind of got to him a little sometimes when you saw on press conferences and just everything about how it just built up and it kind of seems like everybody.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you heart saw the quote a few months ago of oh, you know, we're not going to walk on egg shells anymore.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: What a, you know, it's going to be a little bit better in terms for the players being able to just be themselves a little bit more.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be interesting to see how it affects the team going into the season and how it affects them those first few games because I mean maybe it's something that there a little bit they come a little bit more prepared for the games because that was something that with McDermott was always a conversation of and I even saw the stat I think today of
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think plus three is their first half margin or margin of a point margin when it comes to the past few years.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not that great for if you're thinking of the bills and I know some people might say, oh, well, it was the offense that it started slow.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: they were still one of the top offensive teams in the first half so and even regardless it's just the tip out the team being ready so i'm wondering if maybe this approach by bready having things be loose or having guys being able to be themselves will cause them to not be as stressed or have much pressure on them and we'll be able to show up and maybe start the games better in the first half and not have those slow starts like we've seen the past few years
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I saw something from Conner McGovern from yesterday's practice where he said they interviewed him right after practice.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sweaty is help.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: And he said this is the hardest practice I've ever been a part of as a professional football.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: So they're putting in the work and he's working these guys.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's, you know, the mentality is like, whenever you've got like, wherever you work at for your job, like when you get a new boss, like things are like, okay, this is different, wait a minute, like the other guy used to make me do this stuff, but now this guy wants to focus on this stuff.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like there's like the newness factor, which is cool because like I said earlier, I feel like Joe Brady might relate to a lot of these players more just based off of age alone.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: On top of the fact that when you bring new players in to play for Sean McDermott, he has an established system.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: right?
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: It was, excuse me, it was this way, this way, this way, this way, this way, where with Joe Brady, he's still grooming his system.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's still trying to figure out, well, this is what I did last week, this work.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: So next week, let's try it this way.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think having some flexibility as the head coach, we can't forget to Brendan Beings in any position as well, president and football operations.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe he's a little bit less hands-on on some
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: So you got to think like the guys, you know, everything that I've seen so far, a lot of the guys last, you know, a few years, they felt like they were kind of loose and they were buddies and stuff like that.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: But what I'm seeing now is that emphasis on doing being a close-knit group outside of football,
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: to build those relationships so that you can trust, you know, the guy next to you or the guy across from you when it comes, you know, time to play and put the ball down as you'll ready would say.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm excited and I'm also
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: trying to temper some expectations on some things because we do have a new head coach, right?
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: We do have a new defensive coordinator.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a new defensive scheme.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like we knew basically what we would get from Sean McDermott year in and year out.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: good batter and different however you want to look at that and I feel like is there another layer of Joe Brady that is going to be unlocked like are the bills going to pass the ball more like is this defense going to have like 75 sacks because they're so hybrid and so crazy all over the ball that it's going to be insane so it's it's intriguing but um the overall vibe like the Brady effects to I guess answer the actual topic of
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: The discussion here is I, I, I so far and I am enjoying it and this is coming from Sean McDermott like truth or like the way things went down like we don't have to get into that, but I'm excited and I like where it's gone so far and I can see the evolution of Joe Brady through public his public speaking.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's gotten a lot more detail oriented when he's answering questions
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas, I feel like it's almost a breath of fresh air because he gives you a little bit.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: We're Sean McDermott kind of kept everything close to the chest and you'd have to really go fishing to try to figure out what he was talking about.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm excited.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited overall.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's sort of shows how smart this guy is, and how he sort of garner his respect from people.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think like Osiris, Tom and Spoke, with one of the media members, Josh Reed earlier, and he post that on his ex account, and from sure he post it everywhere.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: And Osiris was saying that Joe cheering for the defense motivates the offense to make the plays so that they can celebrate with Joe.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a very, you know, smart way of creating this, he's got the bond with this offense.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, all right, guys, you want me to celebrate with you and dep you up and all this stuff, like you got to go,
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: make the plays and if you don't want, I'm going to go celebrate with those guys.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a fun dynamic and I think, you know, Joe Brady is a fun guy.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think they not a mushroom, but a fun person to be around.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think he does, like I said, Gardner respect because he is so smart, people do just love being around him because he has that looser vibe as well.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, one of the fun things I heard or one of the intriguing things I heard about what's going on at this mini camp was an update to the offensive scheme.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Matt Bovade didn't come out and say this directly, but he hinted at it on it's always game day in Buffalo with Salca Potio and Matt said there were some things being ran at the mini camp that folks would like to instill
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: in the offensive scheme, and I can only imagine, based upon some of the video I saw as well, that one of the things being implemented in this offense, which may make it less hard at times, Roy, is running back screens.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm very excited to see.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know what we talked about this in our chat two days, and then, but like,
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a, you know, talk about running back screens or talk about any other key component to the offensive scheme that you think maybe getting an upgrade here, starting with this any camp.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, I mean, running out of screens as we have known have been something to forget for the past few years, I even few past, you know, 10 years.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's not been exactly great.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: Really zines what you're doing with the Romeo shouting.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that they really was the last time and it's been pretty brutal sense, but I think if you look back, especially when Joe Brady was the OC and Carolina in 2020, he didn't have
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: The year before that, they had close to 150, or the year after.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, the year after that, they had about 150, and that was again with McAfrey only playing seven games.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I would imagine that now that this is again fully Joe Brady's play style game plan, everything.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was still his offense with Sean McDermott, but they think the way that they play will be different, and I think that you might see.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know Dave, you've been a big performer or I can't speak again.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: Even somebody who's been very vocal about wanting, running backs, especially James Cook, to be involved in the passing game more.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: And whether it's screens, or even just getting it out in the flat to him, or whatever wheel routes, whatever you want to run with him, I do think you have to get him involved.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: Now, whether it comes to the screens in general, I'm not really...
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really sure how I'd feel about incorporating them much more than they were, just because I don't imagine it being that big of a jump, even if Joe Brady does drop the screens a little bit around here, or game plans running back screens anymore, I just don't see it really changing that much for helping us off.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so, um,
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do think there might be, it might be incorporated a little bit more.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to really be calling for it to be added to the playbook a ton more, just until I see that it can actually work with whichever running back that they decide is going to be their main guy for that.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that there's some tea leaves to the truth about maybe they're going to run some screens and do some stuff with the running backs because Pete Carmichael played with
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: right.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: Ray Davis came out in an interview this week and said, I just need an opportunity, I just need the ball in my hands, however that is.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: There was some stuff that was put out about Ty Johnson this week.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: And Josh Allen was asked about Ty Johnson about being the third downback in the comments he made a couple of seasons ago.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: On top of the fact that they asked
- 42:58[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't say carry, he said touch.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to read between the lines, touch on you, whoa, if you want to read between the lines or try to connect the dots or whatever, I feel like,
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: When you have the backfield the bills have in James Cook Ray Davis and Ty Johnson, you would be foolish not to use them other than just handing the ball off to them.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Because we saw there's been games throughout Joe Brady's tenure as offensive coordinator when he targeted running backs.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: There was design plays for James Cook.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: There was the Lions game that was Ty Johnson he had over 100 yards in that game because they weren't expecting it.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: And he was the guy that delivered him.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: And there's been times when Josh Allen's targeted Ray Davis.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, it's there, they just have to figure out if that's what they want to do.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_02]: Now, obviously other things go into that, like the offensive line, they have a new left guard, maybe they don't know how it's going to work out.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: This may be something that's a work in progress, trying to get things going as the season progresses.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: But I do feel like bringing in Pete Carmichael with smart because you get a guy that's been around the league.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, cerebral offensive-minded coaches, you know, as a head coach and as an NFL coach.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I think, you know, if Joe Brady is as smart as everybody says that he is and is bragging about how bright he is, he needs to adapt and you have playmakers that aren't just wide receivers and tight ends.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: That can get you, you know, big chunk plays and moves a ball down the field.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: On top of the fact is, I think we're all sick-a-seen bubble screens, right?
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: We used to complain all the time about Alec Anderson, six man available, six off of my man available.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: And you can do that with screens, too.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can have jungle packages where you run screens.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it's a matter of what they want to do.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: And, and hopefully they just get as many guys involved to take the pressure off of Josh Allen and move the ball down the field.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: Because the offense,
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think of a couple of people on the comments have said, like the offense wasn't the problem last year.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: They just started slow and at times there was times when they just couldn't dig themselves out every single game of the whole because they started so slow.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: So make it easier for Josh and the offense and if that's using every every skill position player you have do it, right?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, people also forget.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that they have John Fox here as well as a senior assistant.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that you just have a lot of guys with a lot of experience that are going to give a lot of advice to make this thing rule.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, on the defensive side, you know, let's each, we could each just pick one or whatever, whatever your favorite or most intriguing defensive scheme.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of defensive scheme changes with the new defensive coordinator obviously, but
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: They talked about pre-snap movement and disguised in Josh Allen's press conference.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the defense is going to look to attack the offense more, be more aggressive, and not necessarily sit back and worry about giving up the bigger plays.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then they have guys with more of a mental edge, right?
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: CJ Gardner Johnson making big plays throughout this mini camp here, and letting people know about it.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's always allowed a sky in the room, so they kind of...
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, update to the scheme amongst the, I mean, they changed the whole entire thing, but, you know, what sort of installation component here is most intriguing to you.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: From me, it's not, and I don't really know if this, I guess, is this scheme change more as just a preference change, maybe it's probably will make some both, but it really is, you know, with Sean McDermott's defense, it was, you know,
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: you know, coal bishop, you're not going to be, you know, moved around, safety is, I guess, moved down a little bit more, but like, you, they had the role that was the role that was it.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was now there's no moving around no versatility, even though I thought guys could be a versatile piece for these defenses.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: you knew his role by based on where he was lined up.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the number one thing with this defense that I'm really, really excited to see is not just the versatility from the players, but just even the versatility from the scheme itself.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be able to have guys playing.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe not a position they're used to.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: But due to the scheme, it might make an easier transition for some of these guys because of just the defense of lines the biggest one the defensive line you might be able to get some more help from everybody at Oliver right he's a perfect example this scheme is going to help him because the versatility of him be able to move around along with the on walker and
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: and Michael Hoyt and just go down and list the D-line, you can say that, and same with safety.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, I mean, see, she took her to Johnson.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that you probably will see all over the field, same with Cole Bishop.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not a guy like Gino Stone, but you know, even Dave touched on it early in the show with Killgore, another guy that is versatile.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they're looking for with this defense.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think for the first few months of seeing how they were constructing it and seeing what maybe Jim wanted and not getting a ton of information the first few months, people were curious about how it was going to look.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we talked a lot over the office.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's about no staff.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now it doesn't seem as big of a,
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: deal because we now have learned that it might not be a traditional nose tackle with this team or linebacker, you know, we thought linebacker, you need to get somebody you need to get somebody in there, you lose a mountain lawn, or who's going to play against for Albert next to 12 Bernard, who's coming off in injury.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: And now I think people are kind of
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: getting into that idea of, oh, okay, I'm fine with the other work your Dorian Williams next to them.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fine with that because of just what I've been hearing about this defense.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, the biggest change that I'm loving and the continuous updates about what guys are maybe going to be doing in the defense is just, it's got me so excited to see one the attacking and to how, how many different angles they're going to attack from.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's really the biggest thing for me.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's four guys that I'm excited to watch.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: And they might probably be three of them are probably the same that you guys would have.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to see Bradley Chuck.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he is going to be an absolute dominant past Russia in this defense.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he's a year removed, another year removed from the ACL injury.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: He played good last year coming off the ACL injury.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Everything you've heard from Jim Leonard about Bradley Chobes at, this is the defense that he should have been playing in his entire career, and this is what he's going to excel at, based off of what he did early on with, you know, with Denver, then a little bit with Miami, and now this defense is built for guys like him.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to see what Ed Oliver's going to do because.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_02]: From what some of the defensive linemen have been saying about Ed Oliver being able to now not have to worry about what gap he's trying to get in or who he's trying to go against on on the offensive line and just being able to push forward and get to the quarterback.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited for that.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: Caleb Ealarm's or I feel like everything I've seen from this guy and heard from this guy and a lot of the smart football people too are saying that this guy's the real deal.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then obviously CJ Gardner Johnson.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_02]: Um, if you guys watch any of when he was with the Eagles, he was a game changer on the back end.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like he would make some mistakes, but then he also made some plays when you knew that the back end of the field was taken care of.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and that's something that we've wanted ever since they had to move on from the duo of Poir and Hyde.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm really interested to see
- 51:01[SPEAKER_02]: something new right like like shoot kind of alluded to like we know what McDermott's defense kind of was right it was.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_02]: They don't push down field.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have bona fide pass rushers.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: They try to keep everything in front.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_02]: There's not a lot of risk taking as far as moving around players into different spots to try to get some sort of pre-snap edge.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm intrigued.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: And again, like I said earlier in the show, I think we just need to kind of temper our expectations for a while.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's going to be a new system.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of new parts in there.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's a guy calling plays for the first time in his career.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: at the NFL level.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_02]: And it's year one.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like a lot of people, if you look at how the bills are structured, I feel like they're built to score points.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like the defense is built to when you get it the way you want it Jim Leonard, we are going to be dynamite on both sides of the ball.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_02]: and hopefully they can take a right hook in the fourth corner and still be okay.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying they're gonna be like that forever.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like this defense, there's gonna be a lot of stuff they're gonna have to figure out.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously with a lot of new parts, you're asking a lot of guys to do stuff that they weren't originally brought to Buffalo to do now in a different system, you know, maybe it unlock some stuff, but then maybe there's some guys that it just doesn't quite work out and as through the season progresses, we may have guys like Maxwell Harris did not start in that corner back.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: have other players coming in and playing on the defensive line that at the beginning of the year, they weren't Pennsylvania starters or linebackers or, you know, what have you.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's gonna be interesting to watch.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm excited to see like the development and the growth of that team going, oh, that's how the ball going forward.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: I do want to add as well, Dave, you mentioned how like the defense of Lyon with McDermond.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: It never had the premiere pass, Russia, and for the past few years, that's been the one thing I have been kind of, I mean, a lot of us have been screaming for is go get that pass, Russia, or rather it was Parsons, or Miles Garrett, or whoever you want to throw out there that was in talks with trades or did get traded,
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a huge conversation and it's weird with Jim Leonard like, yeah, you know, I still, if Miles Garrett will earlier, you know, in the offseason before Chobasind was known that he was available, I would have been pushing for it.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I'm not as upset that they didn't get them as I think I would have been if McDermott was still here because I do think in a McDermott defense that pass right premier pass rusher would have been that he'll hold difference would have helped the D line immensely where I think this scheme, well, yes, it would be nice to have somebody like that.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily know if it's needed for this type of scheme.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: For for the defensive line to be effective and get pass rush.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you can still have guys like root and Chub who yeah, they're not by any means bad pass rushers, but they're not elite of the elite pass rushers I do think they can thrive in a system like this at Oliver like they said getting those one-on-ones I mean he was a guy that I guess you could look at last year and then in the short time he played was playing at an elite level with this pass rush Can he bring that now over into a scheme that
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like Dave said, it's been talked about all offseason about how he's going to be a wrecking ball on that defense can he come through and continue that that that success that he was having last year in that short time he played into this year in the new scheme and one that should benefit him.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that that's all I got to say last thing on the defense of line is just yeah, it's it's almost like for me at least the pressure to get that big
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: big as it was when McDermott was here.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: One more thing too, Lance, before you could go on TJ Parker too, I think it's going to surprise some people.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like that was a signing because a lot of Bill's fans were mad because it wasn't a big fat defensive tackle that we all wanted to be that nose tackle that was going to be 350 pounds that was just going to stuff the run.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think TJ Parker
- 55:16[SPEAKER_02]: is also a guy similar to Bradley Chub, who was kind of built for this defense in what Jim Leonard wants to do.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then to piggyback off of that, I think IGB is going to, I think he's going to surprise some people too with the amount of snaps that he's going to see, because I can absolutely see a world where they platoon three corners.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_02]: And they tried it, well, two corners, and obviously there's been for, but I mean, there's three corners plain in a game, where they're platoonian heirston and platoonian IGB, and it could get to a point
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: It might stink, but he might not be the guy that fits in the system the way that IGB does.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_02]: And that would stink, but you also have a first-round pick as a depth corner at that point.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_02]: So either way it works out, I'm hoping Max works out because I feel like he's ridiculous athlete, and he can change the game with how he can close on balls as ridiculous.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just love the change in the edginess.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like from personals, wise and scheme wise that you're going to see on defense and I'm here for it.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see that attacking nature.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see them bring in the fight to the offense each and every down.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're definitely going to be with, especially with the way the schedules lay it out here.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a tough road for this defense to find its legs right away potentially.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: There may be some hiccups, but I'm all in on this on this defense with all the uncertainty talked about maybe having, uh,
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: the first time play call or the new pieces, the new scheme being asked to do new things.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think the bills are going to see some positive results fairly early on and then hopefully, you know, as they face adversity and roll through some of that, that by week and then some games after that can help them get back into it for the stretch run and make sure that it's
- 57:08[SPEAKER_01]: pretty buttoned up down the stretch.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm pretty excited.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we got six weeks now until training camp.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are going to come into training camp.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: We got fights at left guard, linebacker, we're still going to have some competition at quarterback as well, safety.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: So going to be a lot of competition.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: throughout the training camp area.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have wide receiver battles as well, trying to get those last three spots of the wide receiver room.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited to see all that.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope you guys are as well.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: But that is going to do it for us today.

- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: So he's healing up.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: He can't really put his foot down.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it'd be hard for him to sit here and do a show for an hour.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: But we hope we wish Scott well, obviously.
