- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: a former Hallmark hater. On today's episode, we are discussing
- 0:19Speaker 1: a Little Park Music, which originally premiered on the Hallmark
- 0:23Speaker 1: Channel on Saturday, April eleventh, twenty twenty six, and is
- 0:27Speaker 1: currently available to stream on Hallmark Plus. Hey, we are
- 0:32Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark on every social media platform, Facebook, Instagram, Threads,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Blue Sky, TikTok. Follow us around the internet in your
- 0:41Speaker 1: preferred social media platform please, but also, if you're looking
- 0:44Speaker 1: for our schedule, the best place to do that is
- 0:47Speaker 1: on Instagram. That's right, that is right. We are compiling
- 0:52Speaker 1: your emails for our next listener mail bag. I think
- 0:56Speaker 1: we may also have a special listener survey recap. Oh.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think episode which I'm really excited to get into
- 1:07Speaker 1: a little bit like excited, but also it was an
- 1:10Speaker 1: emotional roller coaster guys defend things. But also I just
- 1:15Speaker 1: I think I think it'd be good. I mean, people
- 1:17Speaker 1: want to know, like the results, don't you think, So, yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: what changes we're gonna make, what changes we're not going
- 1:21Speaker 1: to make? That's right? I think you might hear a
- 1:24Speaker 1: few little changes in this episode. I think so too.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But what's not changing is we're going to kick off
- 1:31Speaker 1: this discussion of A Little Park Music with a synopsis.
- 1:34Speaker 1: When a piano appears in the park gazebo, interfering with
- 1:38Speaker 1: important work, city manager Ali joins forces with rookie Copp
- 1:42Speaker 1: Ryan to remove it, only to find both music and
- 1:46Speaker 1: love are hard to resist. A Little Park Music was
- 1:49Speaker 1: directed by Peter Benson, who has a couple standout Christmas
- 1:52Speaker 1: movies in twenty twenty five, including Christmas Above the Clouds
- 1:55Speaker 1: and The More the Merrier. He's become a pretty familiar
- 1:58Speaker 1: name in the homemark rotation. Writing credit is shared by
- 2:02Speaker 1: Rick Garman and Heather Taylor. Garman's a familiar Hallmark man
- 2:06Speaker 1: behind the Cherry Lane Christmas Movies and The Groomsman, while
- 2:10Speaker 1: this appears to be Taylor's first for the network. Lady
- 2:13Speaker 1: j Maylee plays Ali. You probably know Where's Jess from
- 2:16Speaker 1: Chesapeake Shores, where she stuck around for all six seasons.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Bo Mierkof plays Ryan and surprisingly outside of this series,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Ride Rip, this is only his third Hallmark movie. Feels
- 2:30Speaker 1: like it should be more right. I agree, Francis flanagain
- 2:34Speaker 1: play shop owner Julia, and let's be honest, she's a
- 2:36Speaker 1: very familiar face if you watch a lot of Hallmark.
- 2:40Speaker 1: If you're looking for the full cast list, we've got
- 2:42Speaker 1: you covered. Check out our show notes at Girls Gone
- 2:45Speaker 1: Hallmark dot com. Hey Wendy, what was your first impression
- 2:50Speaker 1: of a little park music? I have two. I don't
- 2:54Speaker 1: know which one to go with. Why about I vote?
- 2:56Speaker 1: How are you going to vote? Well, we'll decide which
- 2:58Speaker 1: one goes into I don't know. Just hit us both.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Let me hear them both. Okay. My first one is
- 3:02Speaker 1: I spent ninety minutes yelling at the TV, just move
- 3:05Speaker 1: the fountain. Yeah. And my second first impression is, wait,
- 3:11Speaker 1: did I miss a Peter Benson cameo? Oh? Agree, I
- 3:15Speaker 1: couldn't find him and I watched this movie twice. We're
- 3:17Speaker 1: gonna talk about it, Okay. My first impression is I
- 3:19Speaker 1: think Officer Pruitt should join our hashtag no fun club.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You wanted to hate him, and you've understood his need
- 3:28Speaker 1: to follow the rules. The enneagram nine wing one in me,
- 3:33Speaker 1: that's you. Yeah, I had a real problem with his,
- 3:36Speaker 1: like jaywalking ticket. I'm gonna talk about it. Especially in
- 3:40Speaker 1: a small town, and can I start? I need to
- 3:43Speaker 1: I feel like I need to say something. Oh god, Okay.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I watched this movie twice, and a lot of times
- 3:48Speaker 1: we talk about watching a movie twice because like we
- 3:50Speaker 1: weren't really paying attention or we fell us whatever. No,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I watched it twice, fully focused both times, and I
- 3:56Speaker 1: really struggled with this movie. I need to set the
- 3:59Speaker 1: tone for this review. I had a hard time connecting
- 4:03Speaker 1: with it. The first time I watched it. I sat
- 4:07Speaker 1: in silence after watching it, thinking I don't know what
- 4:10Speaker 1: to say about this movie really, and on second watch,
- 4:13Speaker 1: my overall feelings honestly didn't change that much. Although I
- 4:17Speaker 1: did find some scenes and elements that I found enjoyable,
- 4:20Speaker 1: my overall impression is that I thought this movie had
- 4:24Speaker 1: some good parts that didn't fully come together for me.
- 4:28Speaker 1: The feedback that we got on social media, looking at
- 4:31Speaker 1: our Instagram comments was like two ends of the spectrum.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It was I loved this movie, This was amazing, And
- 4:38Speaker 1: I absolutely did not connect with this movie right. So
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'm super curious because I texted you before you had
- 4:43Speaker 1: seen it, and I was like, it's not working for me.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I don't know what to do so. I'm curious to
- 4:50Speaker 1: hear your takes with your likes. I see it looking
- 4:53Speaker 1: at my list of likes and wishes, the wishes is
- 4:57Speaker 1: a little heavier and I have more thoughts about it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I agree with you going into this movie. If you
- 5:04Speaker 1: remember when we did our April First Impressions, we kind
- 5:08Speaker 1: of like clowned on it a little bit. We're like,
- 5:11Speaker 1: what's this magical? Like piano? Like we didn't this was
- 5:14Speaker 1: so out of the box, right, But as I watched
- 5:18Speaker 1: this movie, I was like, Oh, this is so in
- 5:20Speaker 1: the box. Yeah, Mark, and I feel like we are
- 5:24Speaker 1: reaching for a storyline here, for a problem that is
- 5:28Speaker 1: easily solvable. Yes, I agree. Yeah, I don't want to
- 5:34Speaker 1: get too far into my wishes. I agree. I agree.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Let's talk what we did like about the movie. I
- 5:38Speaker 1: really enjoyed Lazy j Maylee and Bot mierkof together. I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: a big fan of Lacey. I like the movies that
- 5:47Speaker 1: she does. Me too. I don't think she's on the
- 5:49Speaker 1: network enough. When I was looking back at her resume,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, she's only done like maybe three
- 5:55Speaker 1: or four movies, like since Chesapeake Shores ended. Yeah, but
- 5:59Speaker 1: I do like her movies. I really liked that movie
- 6:01Speaker 1: she did last year with Oh the Sister movie with
- 6:05Speaker 1: Ashley Williams. Yes, it was a Christmas movie last year
- 6:08Speaker 1: where I traveled. I liked that movie a lot. I
- 6:11Speaker 1: like her, so I was excited. But also, if you recall,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I was like bo Mira Gough like he doesn't like,
- 6:18Speaker 1: doesn't leave a remarkable impression on me. But I did
- 6:22Speaker 1: enjoy him in this. I enjoyed them together. And let
- 6:26Speaker 1: me tell you what I enjoyed. I thought they had
- 6:29Speaker 1: a natural chemistry. It was not fireworks, but I thought
- 6:32Speaker 1: it was very watchable. And I also thought that the
- 6:35Speaker 1: dialogue that they had together that was written for this
- 6:38Speaker 1: couple felt very modern, like it was what people their
- 6:43Speaker 1: age would say to each other. Oh yeah, And I
- 6:46Speaker 1: was convinced that this couple, like I, it was believable
- 6:49Speaker 1: that they would continue to date like yeah after the
- 6:53Speaker 1: movie and you know, like in some weird fantasy world. Yeah. No,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I agree with you, and I the two of them too.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I really like Lacy J. Mayley. My notes say that
- 7:04Speaker 1: I would like to see her back in a series. Me. Yes,
- 7:06Speaker 1: But then I say, maybe I just need to watch
- 7:08Speaker 1: chest Peak sures. I just think she. I think her
- 7:12Speaker 1: characters really come through, like she develops them for me
- 7:16Speaker 1: on screen in a way that would be really watchable
- 7:19Speaker 1: in a series to see that character play out over
- 7:22Speaker 1: a long period of time. But to your point about
- 7:24Speaker 1: their dialogue, one of my favorite scenes is the stakeout scene. Yes,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I have that down too. It's the most fun scene
- 7:31Speaker 1: in the movie. It's the most fun that Ali and
- 7:33Speaker 1: Ryan have together. You know, they joke about a hot
- 7:36Speaker 1: dog being a sandwich and get out of my car,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and you know, they have these funny little conversations which
- 7:40Speaker 1: I thought, like you said, were believable and real, and
- 7:43Speaker 1: then it transitions into them having a little bit more
- 7:46Speaker 1: of a serious conversation, and she talks about the things
- 7:49Speaker 1: that are important to her in our relationship and what
- 7:51Speaker 1: she really wants, and I appreciate her saying like, this
- 7:55Speaker 1: is what I want out of a relationship, and later
- 7:57Speaker 1: in the movie where she's like, I'm not going to
- 7:59Speaker 1: get that from you, and I'm not going to try
- 8:00Speaker 1: and change you. Go live your dream. But also this
- 8:05Speaker 1: isn't going to work for me, so I'm gonna cut
- 8:08Speaker 1: it off here.
- 8:09Speaker 2: That's so mature, right, Yes, you know, instead of being
- 8:16Speaker 2: like this man I've known for three days is going
- 8:18Speaker 2: to move away and now I'm going to be mad
- 8:19Speaker 2: at him and stop talking.
- 8:21Speaker 1: She just handles it like an adult. I'm currently doing
- 8:24Speaker 1: a little rewatch of Summerhouse. Oh, and it's seas to
- 8:29Speaker 1: Know You in it's when West and Sierra both you know,
- 8:33Speaker 1: meet each other for the first time, and I seas
- 8:36Speaker 1: an eight. Yeah. I caught some day this morning that
- 8:38Speaker 1: she said they were talking about dating, and she's like, look,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I want marriage and kids someday, so I date intentionally.
- 8:45Speaker 1: She's like, I'm not just wasting time, and I was like, whoa.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I don't know how I missed that the first time.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And this is probably the fourth rewatch I've had of
- 8:53Speaker 1: this particular show. But my point is it's kind of
- 8:58Speaker 1: the same with this character, like she's like, look, I
- 9:01Speaker 1: know what I want. This is not going to work out,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so you know. Sorry. It is funny though, because she
- 9:07Speaker 1: has that relationship with the music store guy and she
- 9:10Speaker 1: isn't able to make that distinction there. I mean, she
- 9:13Speaker 1: finally does does she gets there, but she was kind
- 9:16Speaker 1: of letting that run in the background has like a
- 9:19Speaker 1: safety net, which you can kind of understand sure, sure sure.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Speaking of fun scenes, I like that gazebo scene too.
- 9:26Speaker 1: It's the steakout scene, yes, the gazebo steakout scene. Yes,
- 9:31Speaker 1: it got just like the tiny spit like hijiing see
- 9:33Speaker 1: just the touch. Yeah yeah, sure, which you know I
- 9:36Speaker 1: don't love. But I really like the shopping scene too,
- 9:39Speaker 1: when they were looking for furniture and like decor for
- 9:41Speaker 1: his house. Oh I like that montage as well. I
- 9:44Speaker 1: don't like that. Those always hit for me. Yeah, and
- 9:47Speaker 1: then they were clowning on that cute little like bird painting,
- 9:50Speaker 1: which I realized was in his apartment later on. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 1: it was just cute, that's all. Is this where you
- 9:57Speaker 1: texted me and you said I want to go antiquing.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I don't think so, oh no, but I do want
- 10:03Speaker 1: to go antiquing, maybe because my house is it's bear.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It needs personality, and I keep landing on these tiktoks
- 10:12Speaker 1: of these women who have these personality filled homes. Feel you,
- 10:17Speaker 1: And when I tell you that I've lived in this
- 10:18Speaker 1: house for fifteen years, it feels embarrassing to say that
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's been fifteen years and there's no personality. I mean,
- 10:24Speaker 1: there's literally in my house we're on the same page here,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and I think that's an A lot of people's houses
- 10:30Speaker 1: are builder grade and they maybe slap a few things
- 10:32Speaker 1: on the wall and they call it good. I mean,
- 10:33Speaker 1: I just want it to be filled with beautiful things. Yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I hear you. Anyway, I enjoyed that montage scene as well.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I would have liked to see like a little bit
- 10:44Speaker 1: more like it was. His apartment was still pretty bear
- 10:47Speaker 1: at the end of that makeover scene, but they did
- 10:51Speaker 1: add personality to it. I love how he's like, I
- 10:54Speaker 1: don't even have a plan. She's like, I'm gonna buy
- 10:55Speaker 1: you a fake one. Here are some other stuff I liked.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I did think this movie checked the box on the
- 11:03Speaker 1: spring aesthetic. Oh for sure. It was very beautiful to
- 11:07Speaker 1: look at. I thought it was really pretty and I
- 11:09Speaker 1: don't know if this set designer had put this much
- 11:14Speaker 1: thought into it. But there was a lot of blues,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and you know, Lacey's eyes are so blue. Like every
- 11:22Speaker 1: there were a couple of scenes, not every scene, but
- 11:24Speaker 1: there were a couple scenes where there's like a blue
- 11:27Speaker 1: door in the background or a blue potted plant or whatever,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and it just popped off the screen, especially with her eyes.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I don't know it just I thought it was very beautiful.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It was giving me, you know, seasonal spring, seasonal Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: without like being like it felt fresh. Basically, I agree.
- 11:48Speaker 1: The colors were very bright, it was very crisp, very
- 11:52Speaker 1: beautiful to look at. I did find the character of
- 11:54Speaker 1: Ali relatable to a point, her hyper fixation on being efficient,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Like I felt that as a woman who just wants
- 12:05Speaker 1: to get shit done sometimes. And in theory, I thought
- 12:09Speaker 1: her backstory about her her childhood and explaining the need
- 12:15Speaker 1: for control like all that felt very relatable to me.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And I thought this was interesting in theory, But I
- 12:24Speaker 1: don't know for sure this is going to sound like
- 12:25Speaker 1: a wish. I just don't know for sure if we
- 12:28Speaker 1: needed it to be that deep in this movie, because
- 12:34Speaker 1: I'm like, what are we working, I'm going to talk
- 12:36Speaker 1: about it my wishes. I don't want to get too
- 12:38Speaker 1: ahead of myself. But I was like, Okay, I like
- 12:40Speaker 1: that we're dipping our toe into like finding out why
- 12:44Speaker 1: she is the way she is, but also the people
- 12:48Speaker 1: just are that way, Yeah, Like why do we need
- 12:50Speaker 1: to explain everything about everybody? Yeah, that's such your personality, right,
- 12:55Speaker 1: And finally, for me, my final like there is a
- 12:59Speaker 1: theme here to the movie that I that I enjoy
- 13:05Speaker 1: the importance of community and slowing down and being present
- 13:09Speaker 1: and not being on your phone all the time, like
- 13:12Speaker 1: the idea of having this shared space that could bring
- 13:14Speaker 1: people together. Like ah, like this theme. I do think
- 13:18Speaker 1: it's a little heavy handed in this movie. Yeah, I
- 13:22Speaker 1: think we're really reaching for it. I mean, I think
- 13:26Speaker 1: the Gazebo's doing a lot of work here. And the
- 13:31Speaker 1: idea of community was really interesting to me. I really
- 13:35Speaker 1: stuck on the idea of community policing, and this idea
- 13:40Speaker 1: has taken root in my brain this weekend and I
- 13:42Speaker 1: keep returning to it. And I think my local police
- 13:46Speaker 1: department has a strong social media presence and they post
- 13:50Speaker 1: a variety of things, and they sometimes they're like, look
- 13:54Speaker 1: at this crime ring we apprehended, and sometimes they're like
- 13:58Speaker 1: making jokes about the number of tests in the city.
- 14:00Speaker 1: You know. It's just there's a clear effort to be
- 14:05Speaker 1: of the people. Yeah, you know, and they have coffee
- 14:08Speaker 1: with a cop and all of these things come on
- 14:10Speaker 1: down to this demonstration and it's so interesting because not
- 14:14Speaker 1: to get too deep, but like policing has been very
- 14:17Speaker 1: in the news in the conversation the last several years
- 14:20Speaker 1: and the role of police officers, and my feeling is
- 14:23Speaker 1: like there's bad people in every profession, right, nobody is
- 14:27Speaker 1: all one thing or another. But the idea of I
- 14:31Speaker 1: liked how Officer Ryan had to come from this role
- 14:34Speaker 1: of like being in control and being the overseer to
- 14:38Speaker 1: being part of the community and working alongside them. And
- 14:41Speaker 1: this is a much deeper conversation than we have here
- 14:43Speaker 1: on Girls Gone Homework. But I've been thinking about it
- 14:45Speaker 1: a lot, and I think it's an interesting way to
- 14:48Speaker 1: be I like those thoughts. Thank you. I can't help
- 14:53Speaker 1: but think of movies surrounded about community though, and if
- 14:57Speaker 1: we think back to To for Tea, that movie was
- 15:01Speaker 1: really centered on community. Yes, I want a space like that. Yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 1: I mean yeah, I don't hate I like the idea
- 15:09Speaker 1: and two for Tea as well as of having a
- 15:11Speaker 1: community space, so I can I can kind of get
- 15:15Speaker 1: on board with it. With this piano situation in this
- 15:17Speaker 1: gazebo nonsense, but yeah, like I'm not really showing up
- 15:22Speaker 1: for the piano. That's not the thing that's gonna bring
- 15:24Speaker 1: me there. But I do like the idea of having
- 15:28Speaker 1: some sort of central location that brings people together around
- 15:32Speaker 1: a shared experience. Yeah. Part of me is like, well,
- 15:35Speaker 1: is that something that you need a small town for, Like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: do you need a Luke Steiner? Do you need a
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know? Do you have any other likes? Yes? I'm
- 15:43Speaker 1: sorry one. I thought there was some really unique filming
- 15:46Speaker 1: angles in this movie, really, I tell me anymore. Not
- 15:49Speaker 1: so much angles. But there's a couple scenes. For one,
- 15:52Speaker 1: the stakeout scene is shot from so many different cameras. Oh,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I hadn't noticed. And then there's another one. I think
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's the final time they're surprised by the piano at
- 16:02Speaker 1: the gazebo. You see Ali walking up and oh what
- 16:05Speaker 1: and the camera like whips around to the other side
- 16:08Speaker 1: instead of just doing like a cut from Ali to
- 16:10Speaker 1: the piano. There were just some fundaments had Peter Benson
- 16:13Speaker 1: I hope's choice. I hope so he was really working
- 16:17Speaker 1: behind the camera. That's why he had no cameo. He
- 16:20Speaker 1: had to have been in one of those communities scenes, right, cool.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I don't know, but I did. I don't know either. Hey,
- 16:25Speaker 1: let's take a quick break and we're going to come
- 16:27Speaker 1: back to talk about our wishes. Well, it's time to
- 16:38Speaker 1: talk about our wishes on my list is unfortunately a
- 16:42Speaker 1: little bit on the longer side. Okay, why don't you start.
- 16:45Speaker 1: This isn't a wish, this is on me. This wasn't
- 16:47Speaker 1: a magical piano. This was a mysterious piano. In fact,
- 16:51Speaker 1: halfway through the movie, I paused, I got this synopsis
- 16:53Speaker 1: and I thought, oh, it says mysterious. We read that
- 16:59Speaker 1: as like pianos out there, like did it did it?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Did it like just playing? You know, like a couple
- 17:05Speaker 1: walks up and it plays like a romantic song and
- 17:07Speaker 1: kids walk up and it plays like some sort of
- 17:09Speaker 1: mischievous music. That's not how it was it all. So
- 17:12Speaker 1: it was different than what I anticipated. That's on me.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But we were like, it's going to be magical realism
- 17:17Speaker 1: with this. Oh yeah, did you say that boofs into
- 17:22Speaker 1: the gazebo instead of you know, antiquchap ladies grandson wheeling
- 17:28Speaker 1: it in in the dead of night. Also, how is
- 17:30Speaker 1: he getting it there because we own a piano and
- 17:33Speaker 1: have to hire people to move it. Oh, you don't
- 17:37Speaker 1: find it believable that he's pushing this down the blacktop
- 17:41Speaker 1: street and like building a ramp to get it into
- 17:44Speaker 1: the gazebo. Yeah, how heavy? Are they? Very? Yeah? That's funny.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You're right about magical versus and mysterious. I did wonder
- 17:56Speaker 1: for a minute. I was like, is this supposed to
- 17:57Speaker 1: be a mystery. I think it is supposed to be
- 18:01Speaker 1: a mystlite, I think. And the next week's this week's
- 18:05Speaker 1: movie about the letters is a mystery too. I think
- 18:09Speaker 1: I think these are mystery adjacent. Hmmm. I would like
- 18:14Speaker 1: the mystery homemark, mystery stance. Yeah, please weigh in. Yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 1: what did you think? Let us know if you would
- 18:20Speaker 1: consider this a mystery or not. My biggest wish, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: I've said it before, this is such a solvable problem.
- 18:30Speaker 1: The entire movie hinges on something that could be fixed
- 18:33Speaker 1: with let's put the fountain somewhere else in the park, Yes,
- 18:37Speaker 1: end of story. But this central conflict feels to me
- 18:43Speaker 1: artificially stretched, like we are now filling the time with
- 18:48Speaker 1: what are we gonna do with the piano and the
- 18:50Speaker 1: gazebo and the grant and everything's hinging on the park
- 18:55Speaker 1: can have more than one focal point totally, and in
- 18:59Speaker 1: fact that makes it richer and more interesting, and people
- 19:02Speaker 1: are more likely to come there if oh, there's the
- 19:04Speaker 1: nice gazebo with the piano, and oh I can go
- 19:06Speaker 1: sit by the fountain, and oh this is an instagrammable moment,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and oh how peaceful I can walk. Come on, yes,
- 19:13Speaker 1: it's not Central Park now. I was so annoyed by
- 19:18Speaker 1: all of that. I was also I was annoyed by
- 19:24Speaker 1: the shop owner Julia played by Francis Flanagan. At the
- 19:28Speaker 1: top of the movie, she stops Ali and she's like, hey,
- 19:31Speaker 1: did you is by paint application going to be you know,
- 19:36Speaker 1: accepted or whatever they wanted to bring like vibrancy back
- 19:41Speaker 1: to downtown. But all that hinged on this grand right. Well,
- 19:46Speaker 1: now we know that it was that lady kind of
- 19:49Speaker 1: sabotaging it. Yeah, it was her fault. I'm like, why
- 19:52Speaker 1: couldn't Ali just be like, look, we're trying to get you,
- 19:57Speaker 1: like all the approvals and we want to revie downtown too,
- 20:01Speaker 1: but it hinges on this grant and therefore at XYZ,
- 20:04Speaker 1: so stop doing your freaking nonsense and bringing this piano
- 20:08Speaker 1: in here. Also, that scene was very much giving when
- 20:11Speaker 1: Jackson becomes the town selectman and Gilmore girls and like
- 20:14Speaker 1: he can't go anywhere without people bothering him. I was like,
- 20:18Speaker 1: these small town This woman was like, people need to
- 20:20Speaker 1: get off their phones and start smelling the roses. And
- 20:23Speaker 1: I was like, well, you need to take your own
- 20:24Speaker 1: advice and allow Ali to have a little work life balance.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Like when she's walking down the street, she's like, Oh,
- 20:32Speaker 1: we just say good morning and talk about the weather. Well,
- 20:34Speaker 1: that's partially on you, Like, why does Ali want to
- 20:36Speaker 1: engage with you if she knows that engaging with you
- 20:39Speaker 1: means you're gonna brate her and badger her for an
- 20:41Speaker 1: answer to no, talk about that when she's at work,
- 20:44Speaker 1: when she's in front of your store. She let her
- 20:47Speaker 1: be Ali Ali a public servant. Yeah, I agree. Do
- 20:54Speaker 1: you think that the reason that all of the songs
- 20:56Speaker 1: that they played on the piano were old timey like
- 20:59Speaker 1: when the Saints go Marching in was because the rights
- 21:01Speaker 1: for other songs were too expensive? Probably I hadn't clocked
- 21:04Speaker 1: that while watching it, but yeah. Probably. Did they sing
- 21:07Speaker 1: Happy Birthday too? No? Happy Birthday is very expensive? No,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think it's free now all recently. Yeah, I think so, okay,
- 21:14Speaker 1: because I remember in the past people like, don't sing it,
- 21:17Speaker 1: we're gonna get dinged. Yeah. No, I think they can
- 21:19Speaker 1: use it now. I think it's in the public domain.
- 21:22Speaker 1: That's the word, because when the Saintskull Marching In is
- 21:25Speaker 1: in the public domain. I looked, Oh, who was the
- 21:29Speaker 1: girls singing at the end? I don't know, I should
- 21:33Speaker 1: zammed that song. It didn't come up. I was like,
- 21:34Speaker 1: I feel like we should. It was such a It
- 21:37Speaker 1: was the daughter right of the mom who was singing.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Who had that moment? No, anyway, I don't know. Yes,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Happy Birthday to You is in the public domain as
- 21:45Speaker 1: of twenty sixteen. Oh interesting, okay, you know I get it.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I did think the man who sang when the saintsku
- 21:56Speaker 1: Marching In was quite charming, so it's not his fault
- 22:00Speaker 1: that they had to pick, you know, a song from
- 22:03Speaker 1: the nineteenth century. Our piano loving kid needed some higher stakes.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I lolled to be quite on. I don't mean to
- 22:13Speaker 1: be a jerk. But his name is Sam and he
- 22:17Speaker 1: explains to Ryan that the dad got rid of their
- 22:20Speaker 1: piano at their home because football was taking up too
- 22:23Speaker 1: much time, and now he's secretly longing to play. I
- 22:26Speaker 1: was like, football is taking up too much time, so
- 22:30Speaker 1: we have to get rid of a piano in your home?
- 22:33Speaker 1: YEA A break okay, I won't talk about that as all.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Sam comes riding up on his skateboard and I was like, oh,
- 22:40Speaker 1: this is It was so funny because the image I
- 22:42Speaker 1: had of Sam when he wrote up was very different.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is like the troublemaker kid
- 22:47Speaker 1: who doesn't want anybody to know he's like secretly into
- 22:49Speaker 1: the arts. Thought the same thing. Come to find out,
- 22:52Speaker 1: he just has to like play piano on secret because
- 22:54Speaker 1: his dad's going to be mad. Like it's a Friday
- 22:57Speaker 1: night light situation, right. Yes, I could not have cared less. Also,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I got so in my head because I was like,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I don't like the idea of making kids, especially high
- 23:08Speaker 1: school kids, focus on one thing. I don't think it's healthy.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I don't like you need to have more than one interest.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I think that's a recipe for burnout. Yeah, to be like,
- 23:17Speaker 1: this is your thing, focus on it. There was no
- 23:19Speaker 1: reason for him to be worried about his dad's reaction
- 23:21Speaker 1: other than the fact that his dad went completely Who
- 23:24Speaker 1: gets would of a piano in our house because your
- 23:26Speaker 1: son's busy? Yeah, I don't. I can't sit down and
- 23:28Speaker 1: be like like play a little bitdy, I'm gonna take
- 23:32Speaker 1: away the piano because you need to focus on football.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Is so weird, and he's like, I love you, I
- 23:38Speaker 1: just want you to be happy. Okay, this is what
- 23:42Speaker 1: I'm talking about, artificially stretched. Yeah, of course, Ugh, what
- 23:46Speaker 1: are your other wishes? I hated that Ryan was pushing
- 23:51Speaker 1: Ali to change. Oh in what way? Well, I think
- 23:55Speaker 1: there's a fine line between helping someone grow and then
- 23:59Speaker 1: why are you like this now? You need to be different,
- 24:02Speaker 1: Like I'm going to force you into a yoga class
- 24:04Speaker 1: because you need to like slow down, slow down. Like
- 24:08Speaker 1: if she is a high strong wants to be hyper efficient,
- 24:13Speaker 1: let her be who she is. She's a full ass adult.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Just let her be who she is. And I hate
- 24:21Speaker 1: that most of our Hallmark movies do play out in
- 24:26Speaker 1: a way where the women need to be softened by
- 24:30Speaker 1: this man. And I can't stand it. Yeah, it's interesting
- 24:35Speaker 1: because she was willing to accept that he wasn't the
- 24:37Speaker 1: right person for her right and he maybe was not. Yes,
- 24:43Speaker 1: I was bugged by that. Also. I just watched a
- 24:46Speaker 1: documentary over the weekend, like a four episode documentary where
- 24:51Speaker 1: they solved to murder from a clip on a ring
- 24:55Speaker 1: doorbell cam. You're telling me there's No, there was one
- 25:00Speaker 1: camera in this movie, and Ali gets up on from
- 25:03Speaker 1: the vantage point to try to see into the park.
- 25:07Speaker 1: They couldn't figure out who was moving the pianos into
- 25:10Speaker 1: the gazebo. Nobody's got like it. Nobody seem lumbering down
- 25:16Speaker 1: the street. They would have heard it. You know, I
- 25:18Speaker 1: can hear my neighbors taking their trash cans out. You
- 25:20Speaker 1: would absolute literally hear the piano going down the road.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Ever since, I seem worse crime solved on next door,
- 25:27Speaker 1: you know what I mean? My mom solved a crime
- 25:29Speaker 1: with her ring camera. Did she? Yes? Yes, someone's mail
- 25:35Speaker 1: was stolen and they were sorting it in front of
- 25:37Speaker 1: her house, and she called the police and was like,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I don't know if you want this. They came in
- 25:42Speaker 1: out of the ring camera footage. They went they had
- 25:44Speaker 1: just happened. They went found the woman down the street
- 25:47Speaker 1: and arrested her because she had multiple packages in her car. Wow.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Went the night in jail. Wow. I mean, I'm sure
- 25:54Speaker 1: there are some who would be like, would call my mom,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you know whatever, But that person was stealing mail, Yeah,
- 26:02Speaker 1: stealing packages and yes, checks and whatever, birthday card money.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't know. Never send cash through the mail. That's why, right,
- 26:10Speaker 1: never send cash through the mail. Yeah. Yeah, and that
- 26:15Speaker 1: speaks to a police torment that has plenty of time
- 26:17Speaker 1: on their hands to handle it. Yes, yes, look to
- 26:22Speaker 1: your point about manufactured drama, the dispute between the diner
- 26:26Speaker 1: owner and the dance studio. I was like, why do
- 26:28Speaker 1: we get three conversations about this? Yeah, let me tell you.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I was in pilates the other night and there's a
- 26:33Speaker 1: karate class next door, and I can hear them the
- 26:37Speaker 1: entire time. Nobody's bitching at each other floors to share
- 26:42Speaker 1: a wall. Yeah, I can smell your pancakes. Get out
- 26:45Speaker 1: of town, can smell those terrible pancakes. I don't like
- 26:49Speaker 1: hearing music through the wall. Oh, it hadn't occurred to me,
- 26:52Speaker 1: a person who works in dance, to move my speaker
- 26:55Speaker 1: to the other wall. I know, dumb stuff. Anything else
- 27:01Speaker 1: not for my wishes. Hey, let's talk to you to
- 27:03Speaker 1: see that poor LACEYJ. Malee had to wear these crop
- 27:08Speaker 1: jeans in basically every scene. I mean, I'm wearing a
- 27:12Speaker 1: capri jen right now. I love them, but like almost
- 27:15Speaker 1: every scene she had them on different top, different jacket.
- 27:17Speaker 1: You know, wardrobe a limited on this movie. Just yeah, hey,
- 27:22Speaker 1: is it normal to take a yoga class where the
- 27:23Speaker 1: instructor isn't modeling the poses? I have only done very
- 27:26Speaker 1: beginner friendly yoga classes, so Ryan was having to show
- 27:31Speaker 1: her like oh, Warrior one, Warrior two, and the instructor
- 27:35Speaker 1: was walking around. I know yoga instructors will walk around
- 27:37Speaker 1: to like correct your form, but usually like they're showing
- 27:41Speaker 1: the pose. Maybe it was an advanced class, maybe at
- 27:44Speaker 1: a community center, though problems like you should stick around? Yeah, Oh,
- 27:48Speaker 1: we can't put that piano in here, it's too crowded.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Why does the yoga teacher have an opinion on where
- 27:54Speaker 1: the damn piano goes? I do kind of understand that, though,
- 27:58Speaker 1: because people are probably just always trying to dumb stuff
- 28:00Speaker 1: in there, and you're like stop stop, Yeah, but you
- 28:03Speaker 1: don't own the space. No, go get your own studio then, lady, Sorry,
- 28:11Speaker 1: you had mentioned how difficult it is to move a piano. Yeah,
- 28:17Speaker 1: aren't pianos like temperamental? Like can they be outside? Okay,
- 28:21Speaker 1: isn't this Washington state we're in as well? I? Yes,
- 28:26Speaker 1: the whole time, I'm like, they can't have that piano outside.
- 28:28Speaker 1: It's gonna get ruined and then they do have the
- 28:30Speaker 1: discussion of like I'm gonna get a weather proof piano,
- 28:32Speaker 1: which I looked they exist. Oh okay, so I don't
- 28:36Speaker 1: know what they cost. I would imagine they're much more
- 28:38Speaker 1: expensive or maybe there or lower quality. I don't know
- 28:42Speaker 1: one or the other. I didn't look that far. They
- 28:44Speaker 1: do exist, but yes, I was thinking that before they
- 28:48Speaker 1: had the weather proof piano discussion. The mayor was like, oh, well,
- 28:52Speaker 1: it's the weather's good now, and I was like, yeah,
- 28:54Speaker 1: even when the weather's good, it's like dewey at night.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It's yeah. Anyway, yes, that would be problem. I just
- 29:00Speaker 1: can't imagine why you would want an outdoor piano. Are
- 29:03Speaker 1: people that excited about the piano? It's novelty, right, it's
- 29:08Speaker 1: short lived experience. Look, it's you know. You and I
- 29:11Speaker 1: did talk about the Nordstrum piano guys, and it was
- 29:16Speaker 1: nice to have the live piano player walking through Nordstrum.
- 29:20Speaker 1: It it was nice. But you don't gather and dance
- 29:22Speaker 1: in front of them. Oh. Sometimes they would be like
- 29:25Speaker 1: playing a familiar song and you're like, oh, that's nice.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I have an idea, you know how, like locally we'll
- 29:30Speaker 1: have like a summer concert series. Why don't they have
- 29:32Speaker 1: the piano come out for like a summer concert series,
- 29:36Speaker 1: because now the gazebo is essentially unusable because there's a
- 29:39Speaker 1: piano in the center. I forget about having your wedding
- 29:41Speaker 1: there because now there's a piano there. Yes, and who's
- 29:44Speaker 1: moving the piano? Can't prose there at the pianos in
- 29:46Speaker 1: the way. Oh my goodness. My last beef was did
- 29:52Speaker 1: you see that? I know it is. It's the jaywalking ticket.
- 29:56Speaker 1: My husband recently said, like, jaywalking tickets are not a
- 29:59Speaker 1: thing anymore. Oh, and I was like, what So when
- 30:02Speaker 1: I saw this in this movie, of course I googled it.
- 30:04Speaker 1: In California, it's not totally a ticketable offense unless you're
- 30:12Speaker 1: like disrupting the flow of traffic or whatever. I did
- 30:16Speaker 1: like in Washington State though, it can be so, but
- 30:20Speaker 1: still who gives a ticket for jaywalking? And I like
- 30:23Speaker 1: that she tried to flex, like her position, and he's like, yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 1: but again no fun club. Yeah. And I did not
- 30:32Speaker 1: like the jaywalking ticket either, especially because there was not
- 30:34Speaker 1: a car coming. There was no danger to anybody. She
- 30:36Speaker 1: was not disrupting the flow of traffic or creating an
- 30:40Speaker 1: unsafe situation for anybody. So two Lane Road, at one
- 30:44Speaker 1: point bo As Ryan says, I'll see you at the
- 30:46Speaker 1: finish line. I was like, come on, let's got to
- 30:48Speaker 1: be a call back to his movie. I caught that too,
- 30:51Speaker 1: But that's the only connection. It would make more sense if,
- 30:55Speaker 1: like it was the same production team or director or
- 30:58Speaker 1: whatever who did that movie. It is weird, but it
- 31:00Speaker 1: also is like the finish line is a weird phrase
- 31:05Speaker 1: to use because there's no finish line. You know, I'll
- 31:11Speaker 1: see you at the end. I'll see you at the end.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I know. She she have said like not if I
- 31:17Speaker 1: don't see you at Testapeake Shores first, and then you
- 31:19Speaker 1: know it would have been I don't know, Ali get
- 31:24Speaker 1: the text that says you got this. Her font is
- 31:26Speaker 1: at like one hundred, which honestly, Grandma's over here really appreciates.
- 31:29Speaker 1: We were just I think is on the no no, no,
- 31:31Speaker 1: no no no. It was half the screen three words. Look,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I can never see a text on screen. I appreciate it.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Yesterday and my daughter was like, why do you have
- 31:40Speaker 1: so many different glasses. I'm like, well, this one is
- 31:41Speaker 1: for this and this one is for this, and I
- 31:43Speaker 1: need to get progressive. So I can have one pair
- 31:45Speaker 1: of glasses that does all of these things. When they
- 31:49Speaker 1: walk into Francis Flanagan's store, Julia's store, isn't it a
- 31:55Speaker 1: secondhand store? Yeah, I look like pottery barn. Literally, my
- 31:59Speaker 1: notes say it looks like a pottery barn inside there
- 32:01Speaker 1: with there's multiples of several objects. And I had just
- 32:05Speaker 1: that day been inside a good will, which I understand
- 32:09Speaker 1: goodwill secondhand not the same thing like a consignment store
- 32:12Speaker 1: can be beautifully staged, but you typically don't have multiple
- 32:18Speaker 1: of the same bowl, multiple of the same base, next
- 32:21Speaker 1: to each other. Yeah, they're donating these things. Finally, when
- 32:28Speaker 1: the group of elderly walkers starts dancing to the piano music,
- 32:31Speaker 1: they all look like they're all doing the Charlie brown
- 32:33Speaker 1: snoopy dance. Yeah, they're just like bop inside to side.
- 32:37Speaker 1: That's it. What did you rate this movie? I gave
- 32:39Speaker 1: it two and a half stars. I did too. Ooh,
- 32:42Speaker 1: I feel really bad about it. Yeah, because we love
- 32:45Speaker 1: Peter Vincent. I like all the players in this movie,
- 32:49Speaker 1: but you know, sometimes they just don't land all right.
