- 0:03SPEAKER_02: This is your girl, Cam Go Crazy.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: And welcome back to my podcast, Boss at Heart.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: You guys, this is the first episode of the year.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: And I'm happy.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: Y'all already know in December I had one.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: I did it solo.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: I was really juiced, but I couldn't wait to get back to my people because I love talking to my people.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: I love connecting with my people.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: And guess what, you guys?
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: I have a woman.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: Guess with me.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: And I'm not even gonna say her name because I'm gonna let her introduce herself.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: But guess what, you guys?
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: All of us who got them baby kids, she makes them look beauty kids, okay?
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Beautiful, all right?
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: She don't make them look ugly.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they don't look ugly no more, girl.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: You take them and you transform them, okay?
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: I be trying as a mom.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, girl, you be doing.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: So, you know, with no further ado, I will go ahead and have her introduce herself.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: So you go ahead and tell everybody your name.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, everybody, I'm Danielle, and I'm a owner and a hairstylist at Beyond You Kids Hair Swag.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: I specialize in kids' hair.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I'm from Vallejo, California.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I have two locations in Vallejo, California.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: And um, yeah.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So I'm an entrepreneur, a mom, and a wife, basically.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: And a wife.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: And girl, you make it look good, okay?
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Because you look like you're only like 18 right now.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: That's what people say.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: Girl, because that's true.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: I'm serious.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: And then you said that you have two shops in Vallejo?
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, and then you be out of both of them, or you just solely work out of one?
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I work out of one.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: I actually had three locations, but um, I had to shut one down for some reasons.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: And then I transfer everything over to they both right next door to each other.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: That's so um I rent out chairs basically.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you just rent so you hire the people that come.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: They come in.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: They they own boss.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: They just use my um my name, my my, you know, my establishment, my establishment.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, to come in there and work under you.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Well, they still, like you said, they still the boss, but they still working under you, girl.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: You're the boss.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: They there to, you know, build themselves up.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: And I'm happy for that.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, girl, thank you.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: And you so you're from Vallejo or but you from Oakland?
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, I'm from Oakland, but I've been in Vallejo for like, let me see, nine, ten years.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And then you like it out there?
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: It's cool.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: It's cool.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: It's, I mean, it is what it is.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't too much hang out, so I don't know like that part of it, but I'm really to myself.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I'm on I'm only at the shop and then I go home.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: So it's, you know, it's quiet for me.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: And then having a business though, in Vallejo, it'd probably be better than Oakland or you think that it's cheaper.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Like renting in Vallejo.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: It's the same prices.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Well, it might be a little expensive in um Oakland.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But it's pretty much the it's the same.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Because I'm like, girl, Vallejo, we have to.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: You just gotta, when you go, um, you know, when you go shopping for your where you want your place of business at, you gotta just see what you're trying to spend.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: So, oh, so how do you do that?
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Like, what do you mean?
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: So you put a budget and say if it's like 3,000 or 4,000 or whatever the budget is, that's how you start searching for your location.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: It's just like people think that it's more than what it is, but it really, it's really not.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: You just basically you going shopping on, you just uh you just seeing your price, what you can afford, basically.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: That's cool.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, thank you, girl, for clearing that up.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And just getting a space.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Now now it's different from buying and you know, renting.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: I'm renting right now.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: So it's just like when you, you know, buying a getting a home, renting a home.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, that's cool.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: And then if you're renting for both of them, you can just put that price because you're not renting to own.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: You're just renting them, right?
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: And then after the lease is over, you're done.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: You can move wherever you want to move.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Like you said, you can just keep transitioning all over the place.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: And that's in Vallejo.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: So make sure y'all, if y'all in the Vallejo base, y'all need to make sure y'all go to either or, okay?
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: And I love that, all right.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: And then you say that you are from Oakland because you know I'm from Oakland too.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: And you know what?
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: That is a long drive.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Let me just before I even go to Oakland, thank you for driving from Vallejo all the way here.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Because we are in the house, yeah, we is in Fremont, y'all.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: This is networking, okay?
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: I really need to.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Any opportunity that's opened up for me, I'm coming.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, girl, I swear.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: And that was like, how was traffic?
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: It was smooth.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: You know, um, what's today?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Today is a Tuesday, no everybody at work.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: So tell me about it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: I told you I was, if I would have been late, y'all, I would have been so devastated because I got off of work, but I pushed it here, though.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: I got here on time for my boo.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: And I woke up early.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I woke up early, had my baby together, had, and and I mean, we couldn't, we had a little situation where we had to keep circling around, but we got here.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: It was easy.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: It was easy.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, girl.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: And I really appreciate you because like I told you, that is a far drive.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: And girl, gas is not cheap.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: And I know what it is, because shit, gas was like$5.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Now it's$20.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: That's just what it is.
- 4:54SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, so what schools did you attend?
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Have you gone to a school for like Braden or anything?
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Or just have you been to college or what schools?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, so um, I went to for for college, I went to a community college, Alameda Beauty College, um, downtown Oakland.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I did like a year there.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Um, and then I transferred over to um, I said um I went to Laney, right?
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: No, nope, you went to Alameda first and then.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, so let me sell it.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I went to Laney College first for a year.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: And I transferred over to Alameda Beauty College, and that's where I graduated from.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, my sister, and y'all, that's crazy, because I have a sister named Danielle too, and she does hair.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: So shout out to the Danielles and shout out to all of them that do hair, okay?
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Because she went to those same schools and she did the same thing that you did.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Do you recommend that for people?
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: So I recommend, um, because this is where I made my mistake.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I went to, when I went to Laney, I did um, because it's two years, it's a two-year program.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: So I did one year there, but I I think the smart thing was for me to stay at Laney instead of transferring.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Somebody told me that I would get finished earlier if I go to Alameda Beauty, because it's only uh what, 10, 10 months?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: But I wish I would have stayed at Laney because I learned more there.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And I um, you know, you get, you know, you get the financial aid and stuff like that.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: But I took out a loan for uh Alameda.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Alameda, the um one in um, well, the Alameda Beauty College, because I go there and it's in Alameda.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: I used to go there and get my hair flat ironed because it's the students, right?
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And then they just flat earn it, comb it, cut it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: So basically, you were saying, so you went to the second one, and the second one kind of just put you more in debt when you could have just learned everything with the first one.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And they don't tell you that.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: So who And I learned more at Laney than I learned at Alameda.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: So who recommended the second school?
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, I had a cousin that went to Alameda.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna beat that cousin ass, all right?
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: She's cool.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Don't do it like that.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was all work that I, you know, I was able to graduate and everything.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: You know, I found, I mean, it was some teachers there that um, you know, didn't help me, but it was some, you know, of my favorite ones that helped out.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: But I put really it wasn't the teachers, I pushed myself through.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: And you look at you now.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: A business woman.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Girl, you said you got two, girl, you're gonna get three, four, five, six.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: I'm speaking it into existence, okay?
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: And I love it.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Look, so y'all need to do some type of schooling for it, right?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Because some people just start off with, I know I was just gonna ask you, like, how did you start off braiding?
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Like, some people go to school for it or?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Um, well, I, you know, I've been braiding since I was like 12.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: So I um I was, you know, doing hair at, you know, in middle school, high school, braiding the kids' hair at recess and stuff like that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Um, doing hair at my house, like cousins and aunties and stuff like that.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Um, so who taught you though?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: I I think it came natural to me.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Like I, I mean, I got a lot of sisters, um, uh baby dolls, Barbie dolls.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I think I taught myself.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: I taught myself.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: I think it was just, I think it's just my talent.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I think you know how people got they, you know, they gift.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: And I think this is my gift.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: To make everybody look beautiful.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: Girl, you can take a beat a beat and make it look real slick and good, girl.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: That is a gift, you guys.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: I swear it is.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Because you make people look beautiful.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And I do it like with, I mean, I just, I don't know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: It just came natural.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: I would, it was self-taught.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: So I just, I don't know.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: And then people try, you know how now it's like the stitch braiding and and the new stuff now.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I, you, and then people, you know, had a classes and stuff for it, but I I could teach, I can literally go online and just and teach myself.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Any um new styles or anything, I can teach myself.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: You watch it one time and you able to learn it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: And it's not hard.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: It's really not like it's not hard.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Like um, oh, I do um braiding workshops too.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: I got braiding workshops.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: So when I'm teaching, you know, when I'm teaching the um kids or adults how to braid, it's, you know, it's kind of hard for them to learn.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: But it's easy for me to, it's it's I don't know, it just came naturally.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's easier for me.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, um, sorry for cutting you off.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say it's easier for you because you got the workshop for you to show them.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Cause they'll sit there right there, and you basically just like showing them how to put it on.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Because I mean, when it's braiding, you showing them how to do it with the real hair and with the fake hair, too.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: And y'all make sure, like we said, because we're gonna make sure we tag her shop and y'all go there for them work, um, the braid workshops, right?
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Braid workshops, yep.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: And she got oil and what?
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: So much more stuff.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Look, and y'all make sure y'all look at it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Hair oil, all natural hair oil, help grow your hair, promotes hair growth.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: It's um, you know, it's for everyday use and hot oil treatment.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: That's why your hair looks like that.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: We need, see, we need to get our hair to look like hers, okay?
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: That's I do.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: I'll be trying to keep my hair up.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Mad at it.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: I swear to God, I love a natural look.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: It's so beautiful.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Her hair is so full.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And like I was saying, y'all, she gave me a gift, you guys.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: And it ain't even for me, though.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: It's for my kids.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Because my Yan Yu shirts and I uh we got our own braiding hair.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Make sure y'all look at it.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: And like I told y'all, we're gonna tag it.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Because if y'all in the Vallejo area or anywhere down that area, or even if y'all down this way, go support her because that's what it's about.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: And I really love it.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And we got affordable prices too.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: So we're not like just because they kids and they don't sit, we uh, you know, we make it affordable for you guys to come every two to three weeks to um get your kids' hair done.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: And then we also deal with tenderheads, like we specialize, we really specialize in kids.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: You already knew that was gonna be a question.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Because I was just gonna say, how is it with the tenderhead kids?
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a challenge, but you know, I've been doing it for so long.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: I just seen you do a video with that.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: You just gotta do it.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: I would have threw her ass out of my chair.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Girl, how like mama?
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: I get way worse than what you saw.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Are you serious?
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: So how do you, like you said, how do you get the patience?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I I just prepare myself.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: They tell me, I ask the question, like, is they tenderhead?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Um, I just prepare myself for it.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: I know, you know, I know kids, they treat us like the doctor's office, you know, when they get their shot.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: That's how they treat us.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Are you serious?
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: So you gotta, uh-huh.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: You just gotta have the patience.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: You gotta love kids.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: You gotta, you know, make them feel comfortable.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Um uh basically take your time.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Take your time.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: When I when I know I got a tenderhead child, I time out, uh, you know, the time duration.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: I time it out.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Like I don't schedule my next client until um, you know, later yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: So I can have that time to take my time on a um scout.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Because you know she's gonna be screaming and crying or that don't bother me.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: I can tune that out.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, that don't, the screaming and crying, as long as they can sit in, long as they sit in the chair.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: So I was just gonna say, with a tenderhead kid, what do they do?
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: Try to jump out the chair?
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Ah, uh, you know how they do it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Uh-uh.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: See, God, it's a gift for everybody, baby.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Daniel, you got that gift, girl.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Because everybody can't, everybody really can't do that.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Everybody be like, Dang yeah, I don't see how you can do it.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: I don't see how you can do it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: Baby like Bozo the Clown, baby, walking.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, I got some kids that have challenged my um my nerve.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: For real?
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And do you ever like refuse any of them or do you just still let them just come back or you try your?
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I had a few that we couldn't, we they just had to, we we couldn't finish the service.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: We couldn't finish.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Um, they had some where, you know, they was dread, like dreads in the back end.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: We had to get that, you know, out of there.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: But while you pull in their hair, they, you know, they scalp be so tender that we can't finish it.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's not that you're trying to hurt the kid.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: And that's why you telling them, like, no, baby, we'll rather you just go get this taken care of.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Because I ain't trying to hurt you.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Like for real good kids.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've been doing it for so long, so it's like.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: And why kids though?
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Why kids over the adults?
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Well, they okay, people say people say kids is way harder, but no, dealing with an adult, for me, dealing with adult is way harder.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Because adults, they real picky.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Like if you don't get what they trying to achieve, they, you know, they get upset and stuff.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: You can make a kid happy or easy.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Like you can, yeah.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: So I don't mind doing kids.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: I don't have no problem with kids, but it's the adults.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I started off doing everybody.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Um, then I'm like, you know what, this is not my thing.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: I and I really wanted like the whole I the before I even went to school, I always said I wanted to open up a kid um hair shop.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's good.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: I want to open up a kid hair shop that um catered to the kids, nails.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Um I used to throw birth birthday products.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: My second location was actually my event space.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: So I was throwing pamper parties and stuff for the kids, but that was kind of moving kind of slow.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: So I transfer it into another um.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And then your pamper parties, like, what is that?
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Like, what did that consist of?
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Spy like, you know, the city.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like so you would do their hair and all that.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: The whole little package deal.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, girl, you go crazy.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: They just booked you all in one.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: That's my second little Okay, good.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: I was gonna ask you another question later on.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like you know, I was gonna ask you, I'm gonna get back to it later.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: So make sure we bring it back up because I was gonna say, if you did not do hair, what is something else that you know you're passionate about?
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: But I like that.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: You like, baby, I like to make the kids feel good.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: I like to put them together.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And that is a good, like, people don't understand that you can't sleep on what God gives you.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: And you gotta think about it too.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Everybody, um, it's a good business because you know, parents gonna go get they're gonna get their kids' hair done.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: They're gonna put it to their kids.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: So that would always be uh something for me.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, they go, people go out for their kids.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: They will.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: So that's what I mean, that's why I want to open up a kid hair shop.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And then you don't have that much.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's starting to happen now.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: But when I started, it didn't have that many kid hair shops around.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because everybody was going for the adults.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: But like you said, that's actually really good because the kids, and if they love it, they're gonna always, they're gonna speak your name around everybody.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Mom, we gotta go to that.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Like I told y'all, my baby is already making a sh and her TT do hair, but her TT is gonna have to have a problem with other TT Danielle because she like, Mama, we going to Vallejo.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she already said it.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, I watch these kids grow up too.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: I watch them transition from babies to to teenagers and they getting weaves and stuff now.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So it's like, I love it.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Do you feel like you a therapist sometimes, like in here?
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: We don't talk about that, huh?
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: No.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I'm a I'm a therapist actually to the kid and to the um the parent.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: That's good.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Like, have you ever had to deal with stuff or hear anything?
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Like doing here, like it could be funny or bad or sad.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: I get like, I get some, I I get, you know, foster kids.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: And they tell me their situations and or I get like some kids that, you know, get bullied or something like that.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: I get my advice on that.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: That's what I was saying.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And they be like, you know, don't tell my mom this and don't tell my mom that.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, girl, we got this.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: It's what happens in the shop stays in the shop.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Just like the barber.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Y'all done got a kid, Barber Shadow.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: No, they be serious.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: They be serious.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: They they be wanting their parents to leave.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: So, like when they when their moms and stuff there, and the moms be wanting to watch, because I'm strict on what's on the TV.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: So they um, mom, this is my care, sir.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: This is my appointment.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I want to watch what I want to watch.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: So yeah, they be really, they act, they be acting like, you know, us when we up in the shop.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: But you be like, hold on.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Maybe wanting a Chick-fil-A and they Starbucks when it, Mom, can you they be acting like they mom is they they serving and because they feel good.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Like they feel like they being pampered.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Like you said, you giving them a service and they like, mm-mm-mm.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: I black girl, you better sit your butt down, girl.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Sit your butt down.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: And we do birthday party surprises for them too.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Like, we got that on, I got that on my service where you can add a birthday party surprise.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: We'll go get them like a balloon and and a little gift bag of make them feel special.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Say happy birthday to them.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: And then not like you, because I was gonna go back to what you just said, even with the kids being bullied.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Um, because you know, with some kids that don't have parents that is fortunate enough to fortunate enough to get their hair done or do their hair.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: So that's why I was like, like, how is it really just I actually um like I had somebody come to me, uh, you know, hey, can you help, you know, this person out?
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't mind giving back.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: You let me know I don't mind giving back, helping out.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: So I had I gave freebies away.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, for real.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I do stuff for um for people I give, yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Girl, I know that makes you feel good.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: That makes me feel good.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Because I know it makes them feel good.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: And they like, you know, they don't get the opportunity as some other kids.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Because some other kids can have that opportunity, but when they don't have it and once they finally get it more actually, they do.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Girl, they'll probably wear their hair for three whole months.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: Like, baby girl, we're gonna take that down and do it again, okay?
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: I get that.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: I get the uh the parents, you know, that's you know, not our color.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they don't know what to do with their kid's hair.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: And I um, so I, you know, teach them how to take care of their hair with the assistant.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Yep, I get those.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: That is really good.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Like, I really like that because, like you said, it's a lot of people who don't know.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: And I love that everybody gotta understand that we all are here for a purpose.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: And your purpose is here to help other people take care of it.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I feel like that too.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I feel like, I mean, I be trying to like sometimes I get in my little mood where I don't want to be bothered by nobody because I'm really not a people person for real.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Like I might look like it, I think, I don't know, but I'm really not a people.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: You should just I'm a Leo.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: So shout out to all of the Leos.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: I love y'all, my mama, my friend.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I'm talking to her, but I ain't talking to her, but I talk about her.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I love my Leos.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Um, so I um some when I get in my little moves and stuff, I be um, I be like, you know, want to stay to myself and stuff like that.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I didn't um I forgot what I was gonna do.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: You told my Leos.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what I was gonna do.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, you were just basically saying, like, sometimes you get in your moments to where you be like, you don't even want to do it, but then you remember, you know, like that's what you were saying.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: What I'm here for, yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: I be feeling like that's my this is my calling.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: I'm supposed to teach.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I'm supposed to, like, I'm supposed to guide these kids.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: I'm supposed to, yeah.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I feel like um, that's why I ended up doing the workshop, the brain workshop, because I'm not only just doing the Braden workshop, I'm looking, like I'm looking who I can work with.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Like, okay, she really showing her interest.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: This little girl right here, because I started when I was young.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, if she really wanna do it, she really wants to do it, I'm gonna work with her.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Like I'll let them pay for a few classes, and then I'd be like, if they keep coming to my class, I'm like, you know what?
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: I got a chair for you.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: If you willing to, if you showing me that you work, you can work hard to, you know, if this is what you really want to do, I can cheer you.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I help you build your clientele up.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: And that is a gift, girl.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: You are being a blessing.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: I had a few, I had a few kids like that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: And they probably off doing their own stuff, huh?
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: That is a blessing.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: And then my my um first, when I very first um, I was because I was working in a a little space by myself for a minute.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: And then I hired, I started like, this is too much for me.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: I got too many, you know, clientele coming in.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: I can't do everything by myself.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: So maybe, and that's how I started expanding.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: I didn't, I didn't really mean to expand.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: I was just thinking about me in a like a little area and I'm just doing my client hair.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: But I hired um, she was young, she was a 17.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she built up her clientele and um she left the shop and she's still uh doing hair.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: And see, and she's able to sub, she's able to support her family with the skills that you help provide.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Like that's that's my shop is really all about building up.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Like I'm yeah, that's what I look for when I hire.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I'm looking to, okay, you got um, because people think you gotta have clientele to come work at a shop.
- 20:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: But really the shop is for uh, the shop is to help them.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: It's to build them up.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: You're coming, you're coming for my, like you're coming for my name.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Expertise and all of that.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: So by you coming to me, I'm I'm thinking like, I'm gonna help you.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: If I'm not, if you're not growing, I feel like I'm not doing my job.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: So I try to like, you know, promote a lot.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I try to bring traffic um to my shop so that way I can help the girls that's um inside my shop.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And that's fabulous.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: And I know that they stay looking up to you and they probably be like, that's Danielle girl.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Call Danielle.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: I'm open.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: I'll be trying to promote everybody.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: I'll be trying to.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: But you're not trying, because you really doing it.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I am.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And I see your page and I love it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: All of the tips on the hair and everything.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: So, and I was gonna say, like, how is it balancing that?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Like your family, because you say that you're a wife, uh-huh, mother, businesswoman.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: How is a girl juggling?
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Mentally, like your mind has to be put together because you doing, it's a lot.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: It's really a lot.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: I have, like I said, I have to shop, I'm dealing with clients, I'm dealing with um the workers, I'm dealing with With the business part of it, like the you know, I have my husband, shout out to my husband double A.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Yay! He was there from the beginning.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: He he pushed me and motivated me to every time the he listened to the complaining, he listened to like like he's there in every situation.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: That is a good husband.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: He's there.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: So um he's right outside the door waiting for me.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: He took off work just to come support me.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Good husband.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, so basically, um it is, it's a lot.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: It's a lot.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: You I'm managing um that part, the entrepreneur part, and I'm managing, you know, being a mom of a teenager and a toddler.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And then um, yeah, um, you know, I'm a wife too, so I have to step my game up on, you know, the wife situation, trying to be there for my husband and stuff like that, and stuff he goes through and what he's doing.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: So it's a lot.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: And then also, you know, the stylus there, you know, they you like I say, I'm trying to build people up.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: So, and if there's any complaints or anything, everything comes my way because it's my I'm the You have a lot on your plate.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: So I have to figure that out too.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: I have to figure that out those problems out too.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: But you know, I didn't go to school to problem solve.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: But I just feel like I take everything in as a um basically to help me grow as a lesson.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Any situation that I um I come across, it helps me, it teaches me and it helps me move forward.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: It helps me grow.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: And God don't give nothing to us that He feels like we cannot withstand or withhold.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And I feel like when when I started in the beginning, it was it went like this.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: It was popping.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: It was popping.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: My all my chairs are filled up.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Um it was it was just going.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Was your family supportive or people supportive of your um?
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I got, you know, I got a lot of sisters.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Um they come, I got five sisters and two brothers.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, so it's eight of y'all.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: And they all doing something.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: They one um bake cake, um and drama re cakes on Instagram.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Um, one does makeup, gorgeous king.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: She does make gorgeous makeup.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: She does um makeup.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: I have a sister that um she has a daycare.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I has a uh brother, he does like graphic designs and stuff like that.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: He actually did my website.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, that's cool.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they all doing something.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: They all trying to grow up.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Entrepreneur family.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to grow and everything.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, we got our own situations going.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, they they they post me up, you know.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: They help as much as they can because they got their own stuff going on.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, no, that's cool because some families work with people that build the business together, or like you say, some are just handling so many different businesses to where no, we all got different things, but we still come together.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: And we get the entrepreneur part from my mom.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, so your mom's still here, right?
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's still here.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: She had her own business, and then she put us in position.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Like, she put us in, like, I don't know if you heard in Oakland, they had youth entrepreneur program on, you know, 23rd.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the YEP.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: I went to YEP.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Y'all, you know she's from Oakland, okay?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Y'all from Oakland, y'all know about YEP on 23rd, where the hookers be at.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: You feel me?
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: She put us in like positions, like to, you know, want to own our own business and work for ourselves and stuff like that.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: So that, I mean, I gotta give her a shout out for that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Cause last podcast I did, my mom was like, You you didn't, you didn't give me my credit.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I'm like, let me make sure I give your credit.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Like, mama, you in here, okay?
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Danielle put you in, mama.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: We putting you in, girl.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: We're giving you your flowers.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but they there, my um, they there.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: They uh like when I was doing my pamper parties, my sister was making my cakes.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Um, my sister came through when I do like fashion shows, not fashion shows.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I help out, I collab with um shout out to Ken Dogs because she, I mean, I be working with her sometimes.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: She's like a kid fashion.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, so she does clothes.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, I was in the show.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: So I did like vending at her um events, or uh I help her out with the, she does like fashion shows and I do the girls' hair and everything.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: And my sister, uh, she'll come through and do their makeup and stuff like that.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: That is amazing, that is a real life teamwork.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: That is, that is I love that.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: You feel me?
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: That's empowering each other.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: And everybody's business plays a part.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: And that's what we need.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, like just saying that just now made me realize like all my sisters and brothers doing something.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: If we all come together some type of way, we can build something.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: And that's what we're gonna do.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: It's gonna take one person, and like you said, girl, everybody's gonna get the glue and bring it all the way together.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Because it's already together.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: Now, like you say, we need to come together.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I actually started, um, I had a shop in Concord uh when I very first started.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: I had a shop in Concord.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Um, I opened it up with my sister.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: It was called Um Beyond You.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: It didn't really work out.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: It didn't really work out, but I transferred everything.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: It was in Concord, I was in um Hayward.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I was living in Hayward at the time.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: So um I was getting on board.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: This one I'm this when I'm like fresh, graduated, and everything getting started.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: And um basically that situation didn't work out.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: So I just transferred.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Why it didn't work out?
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Or do you prepare to say?
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: Um No, because I'm like they might listen to it and be like, okay, because I'm telling you guys, sometimes it's good to go in business with your family.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: This is my point of view of it.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Everybody really wasn't on the same page.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: So um I feel like I was um doing it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: I was doing hair and um I everybody went on the same page.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, everybody wasn't on the same page.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, you know what?
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Since it's not working now, I'm gonna shut this down, I'm gonna go this way.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: So I took the name Beyond You and changed it to Beyond You Kids Hair Swag, and that's what I actually want to do.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: I want to work with kids.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so I took it and I started fresh.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: I um build a um little section um in my garage and start, that's how I start building up my clientele.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: I was doing hair outside my garage, and then um we moved this way.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, we moved to Vallejo and I started doing hair outside my apartment.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: And um, Vallejo really didn't start catching on until like way later.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: I was still doing my clients way like in over in this area of Hayward.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, they was coming to me.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: They was traveling to me.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: That's how you know you do a good job.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: I be trying.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: You keep saying I be trying, girl, you do it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: I be trying, I'll be trying, you know how you want to stay humble.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: I be trying to stay humble too, but sometimes you gotta pop your shit.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Okay, you gotta what Kendrick Lamar, because you what Aaron, Kendrick Lamar, sometimes you gotta pop out and show a nigga.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Period.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Cause like conversations that I be having with people.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I get what you're saying.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: I'll be trying to like dimmy it down.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: You can't have that with everybody.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: But I get what you're saying.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: You can't, because I'm the same way.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry for cutting off, but you can't have that with everybody because everybody will look at you like, like, well, who are you?
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: But it's like, no, I'm not, I'm talking to you.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: This is what I'm going through through my normal life.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: I'm not talking to you to feel like I'm more than you or nothing.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: I'm just confiding in you.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Listen to me and don't take it no other way.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: When I have conversations, I kind of like, yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Gotta figure out who you're talking to.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's cool too, because like you say, you started like that business, and people gotta understand when one business doesn't work, it doesn't mean it failed.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: It means that it gave you an opportunity to see another business.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: And that's what it is.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: And sometimes it brings you even stronger with the person or it make you know what your purpose is.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: And your purpose is with the kids.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: And that's what you're doing with the kids, and I love it because I'm gonna say it gave me a push, though.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: It gave a push, push, it let me know that I can do it.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: And you're doing it.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: And I love it.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Because I told you, I seen the page, and I'm gonna make sure, like we told y'all we're gonna tag it because my daughter, um, we was going through it, and it gave us tips on breakage.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: It gives you tips on like how to just put your hair up and moisturize it.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: So that's why I'm like you teaching people how to be confident because if your hair is not good, you're not good.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Trust me.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: That's why I didn't want to do visual.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: These little weeds be still nappy, okay, baby.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: But you give confidence to where if I can get your hair good and growing, you could just wear it like you'll be.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: I'm all about, yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: We can tell, girl.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: Look at your hair over there.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, girl, we can tell.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: My daughter, my my daughter, I had my daughter hair down her back.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: But she doesn't like hair.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Everybody.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Does she braid?
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: I had to, I taught her how to braid just in case.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: I had her come to my workshop.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: She don't have, she don't, like, truth be told, she don't like nothing to do with hair.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's because um I had her like, you know, she was coming to beauty school with me.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: She was, she was my hair model.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: She was she tied, and then she was saying that um everybody asked her, like, uh, can I have, you know how they go?
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Can I have your hair?
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: Or um Who done your hair?
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: Or I wish my hair was like.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: She don't want to be known for her hair.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: That's what she said.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: She don't want to be known for her hair.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: So I let her branch off and do what she wanted to do.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: And it's like it's so crazy because it's more kids to be like my mother.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: I'm coming at two o'clock to get my hair done.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: She cut her hair and then she wants her own lane.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Because you know how they think that because I do hair, then that's what she's gonna do.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: I made her learn all the business, because um, if something ever happened to me, I want her to be able to um take over.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: I want her to be able to know something.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: If you know she's getting ready to go to college and stuff like that, like that can help her out.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Like, you know.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because even if she's not doing the hair, like you said, you can still have people in the booth that you can still have people at least manage.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, manage.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: See, and then there's people out there, so if y'all don't know how to do it, you can manage it.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: You just gotta learn, you gotta get with the right people and learn.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: And that part too, you gotta, you gotta, when you're trying to manage, you gotta, because some people think they could just open up a shop and then just manage.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: But no, you gotta put the footwork in.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: You gotta know, you gotta know the inside and the outside of it.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's why.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: Um, because I did think like, oh, maybe I could just um just open up a shop and then back up and just let, you know, just rent out chairs and stuff.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: But it don't work like that.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: Like your business is not gonna go nowhere.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: You gotta actually be there.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: You gotta show your face.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: You gotta, yeah, you gotta put the work in the work in.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, I love that.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, so if you really wanted and you really, really, really wanted to go further, you're gonna have to be there.
- 32:26SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, I like that.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, like, how do you get me time out of all of this?
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Because you said the kids.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, and you didn't even tell me how old the kids was, because I said you said the teenager.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: So my daughter, you're talking about my daughter.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: So my daughter is 17, she's getting ready to turn 18 up in March.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: March, she a she's a Pisces or Aries.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: She's a Pisces, and then my son, he's getting ready to turn um three in March as well, at the end of March.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: And he's a Pisces, too.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: You got two Pisces.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: I got two Gemini's.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Where we was hunching around the same time.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know what it is, though, because my oldest sister is a Pisces.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Most of the workers that um was working in my shop, they was like anybody that's around me, they I think God be sending me Pisces.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Pisces.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for some reason.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know what it is.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: Because Pisces is so cool.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: I love a Pisces.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: They are, they real creative.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: They got their ways about them, but for the most part, they hella cool.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: I'm starting to learn them, though.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: I'm starting to know how to deal with them.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Deal with them.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: And they're so loving.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: And it they love everybody.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: Like they love so much to where it makes you sick.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: A Leo and a Pisces, let me tell you, a Leo and a Pisces.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: You know, a Leo is like I'm gonna say strong-minded.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Pisces, you got, I mean, Leo's, you gotta watch what you say to a Pisces because they take, they're very sensitive.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: They take everything sensitive.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: So anything you say, they be like, mom.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: You gotta watch how you.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: And I know that because my mama was August 13th.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: So I'm telling you, when y'all see Kim go crazy, half of this came because of a Leo.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: She was told August 13th.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: And she, that's why I'm like, she passed away.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: Shout out to my mom.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: Y'all already know I love her.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but she was a strong woman.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: And I told you, she's gonna tell it how it is.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, baby.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: And that's my thing too.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: When I that's my whole, that's why um me talking to people or dealing with people, because they take my what I, you know, how I talk very strong and very like I'm Yeah, they thinking that you're aggressive with it.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: But see, but really I'm just saying what's on my heart, what I feel.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: So okay, sorry.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I um understand that because I'm like, my mom, that's crazy because she does that and she says how it is, and that's just what it is.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: And like you say, people can mischroute that and think that you're coming at them or attacking them.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: But it's like, no, if you're messing up or whatever it is, you just gonna give it to them.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: See, you know.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: You just gonna give it to them.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know how to deal with you guys.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: That's why I was like, that's why people don't understand my bluntness.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm a Virgo, so I'm right behind you.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: I don't mean nothing by it.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying like what I, you know.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: That's just what it is.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: So now I just try to think before I like how she's gonna feel it or how they're gonna feel if I say it like this.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: So I try to re-rethink and read.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: And nope, girl, and I used to do the same stuff.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Hold on, I'm gonna turn this off because I don't want it to go back off.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: Sorry about that.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: But um, no, I used to do the same thing, but what you end up doing is you end up dummying yourself down.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: And that's what I feel.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: That's what I do.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: That's what I feel.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: And I'll be, yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Girl, sorry, I'm just turning this off, you guys.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: You can go ahead and keep talking, girl.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I just turned it off because I don't want us to be anti-cause that's how I feel.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'll be having to like.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: No, you will.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: And then at the end of the day, when you dumb yourself down, it's like you not being who you really need to be.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Because you actually can be giving these people some good information or really saving their life, but you can't really do it because you're not.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: I saw that going on, I and I I know I should have said something, but I didn't because I was sparing the feelings.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: And that's why I'm by myself now.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: Because I used to do that.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: And then I started being like, I'm not sparing no more feelings.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Because at the end of the year.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And that's what I told myself this year, 2025, that I'm just gonna like, if you're gonna have a conversation with me, I'm gonna say what I gotta say.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: And I mean, it is what it is.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: You checking your goals off.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Because look, girl, you on the podcast, girl.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: You telling people what it is.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: What is all 2025 because that's what it is at the end of the day.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: If you got a pure heart, you know you're not doing it to hurt them.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: I'm not, if I tell you what it is, I'm not doing it to hurt you.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: If you're taking it as hurt, then like you say, maybe I need to kind of back up from you a little bit, because I can't change who I am.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: But you're gonna deliver, you're gonna get this message though.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: Because this message is gonna come the same fucking way, whether you want to hear it or not.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: So, girl, like you say, we not doing it no more.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not doing it either.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: I had to learn that.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: You gotta be yourself, gotta bring yourself out.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: And if I'm offending you, I'm not trying to, but maybe we just need to separate.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: And it's not that I like to separate, but I'll try to solve a problem and see if we can fix it.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: But if I'm too harsh, or like you say, if I can't be who I really need to be because it's making you feel some way, I'm not gonna do that.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to go ahead and let you live your life now.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Cause I'm about to live mine.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: You only get one.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: And people don't understand that.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: That's why I'm like, I'm happy that you were here and you were able to just tell people, you know, a little bit more about business and you know, just juggling the life with the kids and just what you just said right now, not being able to hold back no more.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: You gotta be strong.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: You gotta be strong to juggle it all.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: You gotta balance it out.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Um, the question you said, how do I give me time?
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Um I actually use my when I'm doing hair and everything, that's my that's like my um my thing.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Like I tune everything.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: When I'm doing hair, I tune everything out.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: That's like my piece.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Like that's my, I use that to that's therapy.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: And it's probably other braiders and other people that do hair that can relate.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: When I'm I'm thinking, I'm I'm putting stuff together in my head.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Your fingers don't get tired?
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Because that's what I'm saying.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my fingers used to it.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, because I know some people complain about arthritis.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Mostly like my back or something like that, but it'd be every now and then from standing up.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, but your fingers don't hurt.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: Because I was gonna say, some people, if their fingers did hurt, like what would you recommend?
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: But you said yours don't even hurt.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: I don't, yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: I think they broke a knee or something.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: I hope I hope they pray because you know, you never know.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like, and I don't want to.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: God, you know, put me in this position for a reason.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like you say, it ain't no complaints with your fingers.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: So, like you said, we ain't gonna speak that into a job.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: When I braid, I do got some advice though.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Like when you braid in, you know, your posture, and then you can't like when you braiding, you you know how when they be.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: You don't have to do all that.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: You just, you know, ease in it.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Ease in it because all this right here, yep, lightly, all this right here.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: While you doing this, you straining right here.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I see people be having um the what's that called?
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Um brace.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, from doing hair.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: And that's why I know a lot of people be like, you know, they do it when they're young, but once they get older, they kind of be like, their hands are so tore up.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: And everybody be like, what you gonna, I mean, what you gonna do when you get all arthritis?
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: What you gonna?
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, I'm hoping that I don't get it, but Yeah, we're not even gonna speak that into existence.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're not gonna worry about that.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what you learn at school.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: You learn how you how to stand, you learn what proper shoes to put on.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: You learn, they teach you that at school when you go to beauty school.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: So school is important because some people be feeling like you can just learn from the hood, which you can.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: And that is a good thing because we all learn from the hood.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: You're missing that part though.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: You not to hurt your body, but you're missing that part of it.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not to hurt your body, your postures, not to be able to um get the arthritis because you're going too hard with stuff.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: So it does teach you certain things.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: It's necessary.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, so yeah, that's why I'm like, okay, so going to school.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: You start seeing it like when you're going to school, you'll be like, I don't need this.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: I don't like what I'm gonna do.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: Like, all I'm I'm I'm just braiding hair.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Like this is all what I need to learn.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: But no, they really teach, we learn anatomy and stuff like that.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: So uh you really need it as you go, you'll see why.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: You'll see why you they you'll see why.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: And it's a benefit.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, so, and with your daughter, so she she kind of don't, she like, girl, keep me away from the hair.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: But your more of a theater act than she wrestles too.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: She the uh captain of of her uh wrestling team.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: I'll see y'all I seen y'all um page and I seen that she a captain.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: Girl, your your daughter is laying people out because wrestling, they pin they pin you down.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: She laying them out.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love that.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: How do y'all feel about that?
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, I like it because she loves it.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: But you know, that's my daughter.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: But you know, my husband, he loves it.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: She um It's like a man's sport, like supported her all, like we've been up under her her whole entire life.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Everything she does, she was acting.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: She was, she was doing, she does, she did modeling, she did a lot of stuff, dancing.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Um, we was up under her.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: So this she wants for herself.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: So she don't be wanting us to go to her uh her matches and stuff like that because she was saying my husband be like all on a mat and like that's her daddy.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: He likes her baby.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: He likes that nurse sucker.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: So we try to give her her little space and then she's growing up now.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: So she asked for her that to be her.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: So we let her, we we watch from a distance.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: I'm about to say, what about the baby brother?
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Do he be like excited when she pinning people down, or he's still too little to kind of know?
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he, I mean, he knows.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, he knows.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: He knows.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: He be trying to wrestle with her a little bit.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, look at his little selves.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: He might be a little wrestler.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: He into he's a little butt into uh golf.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: He's talking about golf.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: My kids be doing like different things like that we never tried.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: Like roller derby too.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: At the West Oakland Um the Firmary.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, the firmary park.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: They she went uh doing that for a minute.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: She does stuff like different.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: She did tennis.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: She did, yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: So we like to call it the Caucasian things.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: But at the end of the day, it's not Caucasian.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: It's just that we never was introduced to it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: Because my daughter, I have her in Kong Food.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: That's why I said we wasn't introduced to it.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: I have my daughter in Kong Food.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: I'm happy you're doing it, girl.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: She's gonna tear a person up, come and get on her if you want to.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: She's gonna lay your ass down.
- 42:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: That's why daddy, like, girl, that's my girl.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: That's my girl.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I love it because she likes it.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: She she um she doesn't want to do it as a uh hobby.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: She wants to do it.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, she doesn't want to do it as a career.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: She wants to do it as a um hobby because they're trying to give her a scholarship too.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: So she don't want to go to college for it.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: She's more into like theater.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's real good at um what's that high effect makeup?
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, the um behind the scenes when you on the stage and she can make you look like the walking dead or so.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: She knows she's a good makeup artist.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: The high, the high effect, like cosplay.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: I get what you're saying.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Like, um, I don't know the words of it, but she knows how to make it look so real.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: I know what you, I know somebody, I follow somebody on Instagram who does it like that.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: And every time um the Valleo, what is it called?
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: The night, what is the Vallejo stuff for Six Flags called?
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: They hired them to come up.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: I know what you're talking about.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: They hired them to come do the makeup and stuff for the zombies and stuff.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: That's what she goes crazy.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: That's what she she she real talented at a lot of things.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: A lot of things she's real talented at.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, she's trying to figure it out.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: She um getting there.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: She's getting up there.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: And listen, you know what, you guys, I have a trivia question because you know I always do a trivia before we even start getting closer.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: But all right, the trivia question, you guys, is during the transatlantic slave trade, enslaved people use cornrows for what?
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: So during the transatlantic slave trade, enslaved people use cornrows for what?
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: Was it A, fashion?
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Was it B the white people said do it because your hair is hella nappy?
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: Or was it C to help with secrets, escapes, routines, and hide.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Little food and seeds.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: So when they escape.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'm gonna go with C.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: It might be, it might be B, but I'm gonna go with, I'm gonna go with C.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: It's C.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: It is C girl.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: Okay, yes, yes, yes.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: Because you know what?
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: I always try to do a little trivia because I think it's so fascinating for people to like know what somebody else's life is.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: And you doing somebody's hair, that is just it's like I said, you give confidence, you make them feel good when they're sitting in their chair.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: But at the same time, this is a part of history, you guys.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Our slave members had to escape from our masters, like not my fucking master, but they had to escape from masters, and that is so unique for them to be able to braid a secret passage in your head.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: And the white people don't know what the hell is going on.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: But we got how we about to go right past your little ugly ass.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: We got the little seed, the little corn and everything in there, because we we about to escape.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: Y'all, that is that is a fact.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: I promise you guys, look it up.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know that, but when I did the trivia, I was like, I hope.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: I read about that.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: You did?
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Girl, and see, that is so fascinating because it's some people who don't know.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: We just think it's cute, fashion.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: Cause I did not know.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: You know, it's history behind.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, it's history behind these braids.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: And when you search it, you will be surprised that it ain't just fashion.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: It's really some meaning into it, and it lets you know, like it identifies your tray, um, your tribes and all of that back in the day.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: So it's more than just a fashion, you guys.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Like it is really for us.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: It's our history, it's our culture.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: And I really love that, girl.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: That's why God made sure your fingers is gonna continue to make us look good.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: I hope and pray.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: Yes, that is.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, he is.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: We don't, we're gonna say that.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: We don't need us into existing.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: We are.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Because I told you, girl, you're getting in buildings, you get in more and more and more.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: I told you, we are gonna keep it.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: Somebody asked me a question.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: Somebody asked me, uh, Danielle, what you gonna do after this?
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Like, you braid for the rest of your life?
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that's a good question.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: I never thought about that.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: I never thought about that.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: But um, I'm I I mean, now thinking of it, uh, I'm a braid until I'm I get somewhere with it.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: I'm a braid until uh I'm, you know, my goal, my, my um goal is to, you know, do this so I wouldn't have to do it.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: So I could step back and watch my um, you know, watch what I build up.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: See what you planning grow.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: Grow.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: I want to be able to step back and come in when I want to, not because I have to.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: And that's good.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: So, like you said, it is an exit plan, but it's still being created right now.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Cause yeah, everything that we do do.
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: My level of success is uh Yeah, basically um come in when I want to and not because I have to.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's my level of success.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Come in because I want to, because I love doing it.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Not because I um, not because I have to do it.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: That's because that that's called freedom, baby.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: That's what you're saying.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Something for my kids, which everybody wants to do.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Uh something, um, let it run on its own.
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: And like you say, being able to come in and have a choice.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: I don't have to just come in because I have to make the money.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Like, no, I can stay home and make residual money.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: I can come in and still make the money.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: And like you say, I'd be able to watch all of the people that I didn't seen from little kids grow and do their own.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: And even come back and help you.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: And that's my plan.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: That's what I, that's what I'm looking for.
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: That's what they're gonna do.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: Because when you really leave a good impression, they're gonna always remember who it was.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: They are.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: Girl, I could tell already.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: There's some people that come back and um, you know, thank you, Danielle.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: You helped me out a lot.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: It feels good too.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: It feels good to hear that.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: That I'm doing something, that I'm um, that I'm helping out.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I know it's like some people don't take the time to really think that they're important, but you are.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: Like you say, like when you get to hear people say thank you, I hope you know that.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: Like, no, girl, you're important.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: Like you are, like, I like to, because little girls, the pictures that I seen in the chairs, they be looking so happy.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: Like Danielle, that's it.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Danielle, like I'm telling you, girl, like you be making them feel like, like you said, like they that girl.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: And that is a gift, like they feel so good in the inside, because they like, and they just be like, yes, that's what I'm like.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: How do they come up with you?
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: Just come up with the styles or they come up with it?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, they me, them, or their mom.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Parents.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because that is a gift, girl.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: And I promise you guys, watching them little kids smile like that, if y'all go to her page, y'all gonna see what I'm talking about.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: You're gonna make your kid go.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: Your kid is gonna wanna go because I told you my daughter already got an appointment.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: She's already speaking it into existence.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: She likes, mama, I need to go.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, so just in case, or not even just in case, where do you see your business going five years from now?
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do like how I was gonna say a 10-year plan, but we're gonna do five years shorter.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: Let me see.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Um what do you want for Beyond You Kids swag in the next one?
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: I wanted to always be like level up.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: Like I wanted, I wanna add different things.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: Like, remember when I was saying the pamper party and stuff like that?
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: I want to continue to grow.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: I wanted to be able to like um have something all, you know, all around the like if I want to go to Atlanta, my my shop out there in Atlanta.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: Worldwide.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: And that's not too little either.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: I hope you think that big because I be thinking, thinking little is, no, we gotta think big.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: And sometimes I be um like, I didn't even, I really didn't even think this far.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, when I first started, I just thought like, I want to open up me a shop and I want to do, you know, kids' hair.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: I didn't think like I wanna rent out chairs.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: I didn't think like, let me add this on it.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Like, it's ways that you can um increase your income.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: You don't have to just do hair.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: You don't want to be stuck just doing hair.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, like I said, your hands and stuff would give out some, like, some.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, we don't want that.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: But you gotta have there, gotta be a plan.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, remember when I was saying telling you I started a podcast too.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: That's something that it was called the big shop talk.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: We kind of started it and it kind of like went down.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: But um, I hope I continue to bring it back up.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: You will.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, it's stuff adding on to your what you already have.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: So I just want to build, I want to grow, I want to elevate.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: I just want to, yeah.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Anything, any opportunity that I can add to my um place for kids, then I'm down.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: And like you say, expand, expand, expand, expand.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: It's not no little.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: I seen this meme and he said, you gotta dream big, bitch.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: I seen the meme.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: I don't know if y'all seen it, but it was a crackhead, dude.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: But you really gotta dream big.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: And like you say, worldwide is that's dreaming big.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: Because that's what I want to do.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: I want to be able to talk to entrepreneurs or talk to people, and this is worldwide.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: And I want you guys to talk and let us know where you're from, how you started the business, and where do you see your business.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: And I like where you're going with it too.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: Like you bring in ball, like boss at heart and letting us tell our story.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Because you're a boss.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're giving us the opportunity to tell our story.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: Because, like I said, we can't all get to the radio, but we're gonna bring the radio to us because there is a lot of millionaire people, millionaires out here, or with the millionaire ideas, but just because we don't have the money or the resources, we get slept on.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: Nah, ain't nobody sleeping on us no more, baby.
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: I'm tapping into us.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: Everybody, we're elevating.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: We are empowering.
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: And like you said, your business is going worldwide.
- 51:26SPEAKER_02: I could see it.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: Kids being pampered, feeling good, looking good.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Why not?
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: We do it at affordable um prices.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: People think that um that's one thing too.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: I want to talk about uh the pricing.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, they be like, Danielle, why you charge so, you know, like you don't charge as much.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: You don't, like you need to, because you know it's like a trend.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: You know, these people over here charging three or four hundred dollars for a kid's hair, but um, they gotta, I just feel like, okay, I understand, you know, the everything going up in the world and stuff like that, but it's like some people can't, uh, you know, some people can't pay that$300.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not about to go pay no$300 uh every two to three weeks for my kid hair.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: Like y'all gotta be reasonable, y'all.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: We in the hood.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm like I said, I make it affordable for them to come back every two to three weeks.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: And on top of that's gonna be a loyal client.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: Like to be, if you have a you know, affordable price for them and they range, they're gonna come back to you every two to three weeks, and then they're gonna bring more people.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be your client for a lifetime.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: You can have clients coming in and out and paying that three.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: They only gonna come, you only gonna see them what, once a month, or you ain't gonna see them that because no who's gonna pay that.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Nobody's gonna pay that.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: So I try to make my prices affordable so I can have a long, you know, a long loyal client to come back to me every two to three weeks.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: And that's why you do gotta.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: And that's how I started off.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: I started off at a certain price.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: I started off at a price to where, like, Danielle, what you gonna pay for your daughter?
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: What you gonna pay for your daughter?
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: What you gonna um you you gonna go back every two to three weeks for what price?
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: So that's how I came up with my um my prices and stuff for kids.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: I know they, you know, they kind of, it's not hard to me because I'm used to it, but a lot of people don't like doing kids' hair because of the tender head.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the um, you know, the whole little thing.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: And they cry and stuff.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: But this is that's why it's for me.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: It ain't for everybody.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: That's why it's for me.
- 53:21SPEAKER_02: And it's been working for you.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: Because you've been doing it for how many years now?
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: You said since since what this what I've been doing over 20 plus years.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: I've been I've been braiding here over 20 plus years, but I've been in business for nine years.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: So, period.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: Your nine years speak volumes.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Because what you're doing, it's a formula for it and it's working.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: And I get people, you know, trying to down my prices.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: Because you know, stylists they be, they, you know, they feel if your prices is, you know, a certain price, we put a damper on a um situation.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:51SPEAKER_01: But I got, I mean, you gotta strategize.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: You gotta uh you gotta see what works and what don't work.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: And I feel like this worked for me and it's been working for me.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: So I'ma keep my prices where they at.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, I might raise it like, you know, every year or so to keep up with the economy.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: But and could, you know, I still got bills and stuff at the end of the day.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm a like I'm you looking out for your people.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: It's a kid hair shop, affordable, so you can bring your kids every two to three weeks so they can look, you know, pampered, they can get pampered and look pretty and stuff like that.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: But they don't understand, like you say, when you people can always do stuff for the money, but when you're not doing it for the money, you're doing it for the love and the passion.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: It speaks values.
- 54:31SPEAKER_02: That's why I told you you got nine years.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: That's how you get, that's how you get your um clients.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: And that's how you get your blessings.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: Because, like you said, you're able to be a realistic person.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna just go, like, of course, we're gonna make money, but you're not gonna go, let me go to the hood and give you$300 braids when you know dang well it's probably like less than$150.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: And then I I I mean, I be coming across some um people that charge three, you know, three something plus, but don't have no good customer service.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: They be so rude and and late and you know, all the little stuff, but you you charging this much, but what is you giving that customer?
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: What is you, you know, you giving them attitude and extra payments?
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: Because I've been seeing that stuff on TikTok about them running out on prices and people charging$150 and canceling and just a whole like you said, I didn't stick with keys.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: You want you want your client to um to feel good about where they spend their money at?
- 55:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: So I love that.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: All right, girl.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Well, look, before we even wrap it up, because you guys, we are getting to the end, what advice would you give anybody out there that's listening?
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: Or you can tell the world whatever you want to tell them.
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: You can tell them about hair, tell them about your life, kids, wife.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, so um my advice is um if you trying to be, if you're trying to run or own your business, um you have to, you basically you gotta be strong-minded.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: Um let me see, you you gotta promote yourself, you gotta put the footwork in.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: You gotta um, you, you gotta do the work.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: You gotta do the work.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: You gotta um, you know, you just gotta be strong.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: You gotta be strong-minded.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: You gotta in all aspects, customer service, your your personal life, your your um, like, I like, I don't know.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: Like you just gotta be strong-minded.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like you say, you gotta go and you gotta make sure that you see it and you gotta execute it.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: So my my advice is uh I'm basically uh put the footwork in.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: Put the footwork in.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, don't let nobody talk you down from what you're trying to do.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Um, stay focused, stay, stay consistent.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: You always gotta stay consistent.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: If you don't stay consistent, you're not gonna get no results.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: So that's the main thing is stay consistent and keep, you know, keep promoting yourself.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: It's not that um, it's not that you're not doing good, it's that nobody knows you yet.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: So you gotta put yourself out there.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: And like you say, it's not gonna happen overnight.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: Because does it happen overnight?
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: It really don't.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: You just gotta put the work in.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not where I'm at, I'm not where I want to be, but I'm I'm damn sure gonna get there.
- 57:11SPEAKER_02: We head there, and I love that.
