- 0:00Speaker 1: By the Withrow, we're presented by Hard Rock Bet. Accidents
- 0:02Speaker 1: don't wait for great timing. One bad moment, a wreck,
- 0:05Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly
- 0:08Speaker 1: you're fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 0:13Speaker 1: Vanderbilt Law grad. He built the firm based on the details.
- 0:16Speaker 1: People deserve someone on their side, willing to take full attention,
- 0:22Speaker 1: ask the hard questions, push back when things don't add up.
- 0:25Speaker 1: You're backed by experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight
- 0:28Speaker 1: to corporations and every single day to those insurers. Clay
- 0:32Speaker 1: Travis Law, based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 0:40Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 0:43Speaker 2: about it. Here's their promise.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Honesty.
- 0:45Speaker 2: They don't sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Not what you want to hear. The case evaluation is free,
- 0:50Speaker 2: no charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Go to claytravislaw.com or call them at 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com.
- 0:59Speaker 2: No case is too big or too small.
- 1:02Speaker 1: JT joins us as well for primary complaint. Guys, my
- 1:05Speaker 1: primary complaint this week. Those that just stop in the
- 1:09Speaker 1: middle of the aisle at a supermarket, acting as though
- 1:13Speaker 1: they're there by themselves. They're by themselves. No one else
- 1:21Speaker 1: in the supermarket, in the grocery store. They probably have
- 1:25Speaker 1: a kid with grocery feet, Chad. And they're just shopping
- 1:28Speaker 1: and no idea that you're trying to get by them.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And aisle number five, my primary complaint.
- 1:34Speaker 2: People really get into whatever they're looking at and looking for,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I've noticed. Like there is a separation of mind and
- 1:41Speaker 2: body when you're looking at 85 different brands of cans
- 1:46Speaker 2: of something. And you're trying to find the right thing
- 1:48Speaker 2: for whatever recipe you're making. And they do lose all
- 1:51Speaker 2: spatial awareness sometimes. of where their cart is, where they
- 1:53Speaker 2: are in the aisle, and everything else.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I will raise my hand. I've been guilty of.
- 1:56Speaker 2: This at times, too, where I've got a list of
- 1:59Speaker 2: things I'm supposed to get, and if you give me
- 2:01Speaker 2: something that's very specific, I don't bake, as an example.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So if I'm given something that I need to get
- 2:06Speaker 2: for a baking supply, and I'm looking for a specific ingredient,
- 2:10Speaker 2: I'm going to be staring at... that display for a
- 2:14Speaker 2: while to get it. And there are times where I
- 2:16Speaker 2: get my cart in the way of people. So I've
- 2:18Speaker 2: been guilty of this.
- 2:19Speaker 1: The weird part though, is like, if they have kids,
- 2:21Speaker 1: there's a kid in the, in the buggy or whatever
- 2:24Speaker 1: in the cart. And, uh, that's another good one of
- 2:27Speaker 1: words used. And, uh, you know, I don't want to
- 2:29Speaker 1: go up and push the cart out of the way.
- 2:31Speaker 1: If I've been waiting for, you know, 15 seconds, because
- 2:35Speaker 1: there's a kid in the cart, you know, but they
- 2:38Speaker 1: don't even turn around. And I'm talking about in the
- 2:40Speaker 1: middle of a small aisle for the most part, If
- 2:44Speaker 1: you try to go around, there's a display on the
- 2:46Speaker 1: other side, something that's in the way, where you need
- 2:48Speaker 1: to physically come over and just take the cart towards them.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They're on the other end of the aisle looking. They're
- 2:53Speaker 1: locked in. They are.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Locked in. Totally locked in.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Their kids are just standing there.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I'm locked in on.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Travel softball and youth sports today because I'm going to
- 3:01Speaker 2: have a travel softball-related complaint here. I think JT is
- 3:03Speaker 2: as well. We name names on this show, so I'll
- 3:06Speaker 2: name names.
- 3:07Speaker 1: U-triple-S-A.
- 3:08Speaker 2: This is a softball association that prides itself on being
- 3:12Speaker 2: a top dog. They've got really good teams that come
- 3:15Speaker 2: in from different states and play tournaments. I like their
- 3:18Speaker 2: schedule where they give you five games, and you get
- 3:21Speaker 2: three on a Saturday. You know exactly when your games are.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You've got two starting Sunday morning. Then they go into
- 3:26Speaker 2: a single elimination bracket, and the teams that qualify win.
- 3:29Speaker 2: in the tournament for the bracket will play. So you're
- 3:31Speaker 2: guaranteed at least five games, probably six if you're not
- 3:35Speaker 2: one of the last two teams in the tournament, and
- 3:37Speaker 2: maybe more if you keep winning. I like knowing when
- 3:40Speaker 2: I'm going to play and not the uncertainty of a
- 3:41Speaker 2: one-day tournament. That part I like.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Here's what I don't like.
- 3:44Speaker 2: If you were going to charge a healthy amount of
- 3:47Speaker 2: money for every team to enter your tournament, and you're
- 3:49Speaker 2: going to charge a gate fee for all the parents
- 3:52Speaker 2: to get in of $ 500 or whatever it is, instead
- 3:55Speaker 2: of every parent having to pay $ 10, when they drive
- 3:58Speaker 2: up to the park that morning.
- 3:59Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That's all built in, okay? You don't ask the team
- 4:04Speaker 2: to supply their own softballs.
- 4:06Speaker 3: This drives me nuts.
- 4:08Speaker 2: The first time we did this this fall, I had
- 4:11Speaker 2: to do a double take. We supply our own. So
- 4:13Speaker 2: we have to chase down foul balls. We have to
- 4:16Speaker 2: make sure we have the right ball each time.
- 4:19Speaker 3: That was ours. We brought it in. Coaches are out.
- 4:21Speaker 2: At midfield exchanging balls for the other one. Instead of
- 4:24Speaker 2: just putting, I don't know, two or three game softballs
- 4:27Speaker 2: from you, Triple S, on every field throughout the day.
- 4:30Speaker 3: You don't just lose balls like you do in Major League.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Somebody's going to go retrieve a foul ball at a
- 4:34Speaker 2: tournament and bring it back regardless.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But here's what this invites.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It invites the perception of tomfoolery and antics taking place.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I talked about this with Tennessee, South Carolina.
- 4:45Speaker 2: The fact that game was so predictable is the problem.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Whether there's something nefarious going on or not, you've got
- 4:52Speaker 2: a crew that's been historically bad against Tennessee doing things
- 4:57Speaker 2: historically we haven't seen, like taking three touchdowns off the
- 5:00Speaker 2: board or saying a ball was tipped on a clear
- 5:03Speaker 2: pass interference that would have led to the game-winning touchdown.
- 5:06Speaker 2: All those things happening with that crew, the perception of
- 5:09Speaker 2: impropriety is as bad.
- 5:12Speaker 3: So if you are a tournament... that.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Prides itself on being top notch. Hutton, I think they
- 5:16Speaker 2: want that. I think they want to draw in coaches
- 5:20Speaker 2: that are going to bring in dead softballs or bring
- 5:22Speaker 2: in something that's some sort of a trick so other
- 5:25Speaker 2: coaches can challenge the ball the other team is using
- 5:28Speaker 2: or look for something else. Why on earth would that
- 5:31Speaker 2: even be a thing to bring in your own softballs
- 5:34Speaker 2: to provide them for a tournament? and not have the
- 5:37Speaker 2: tournament provide game balls. That is my primary complaint.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So this is great. Whenever you're at bat, do you
- 5:43Speaker 1: use your own softballs or the other team's softballs?
- 5:45Speaker 3: You're pitching.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So on defense, you're using that ball. I know coaches
- 5:50Speaker 2: who have challenged balls being pitched to them.
- 5:52Speaker 3: This is too heavy.
- 5:53Speaker 2: This is waterlogged. They've deadened the ball in some way.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So if you wanted to bring a dead softball out there,
- 6:00Speaker 2: you're hitting the ball well and it's bouncing to the shortstop.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Over and over again, you're like, what is happening? Our
- 6:06Speaker 2: batters are saying the ball feels weird off the bat.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I know coaches who have stopped the game to check
- 6:11Speaker 2: the ball that's being used. But you open yourself up
- 6:15Speaker 2: to that when everybody's not using the same ball. I
- 6:19Speaker 2: like it where the pitcher at the end of the
- 6:20Speaker 2: inning drops the ball in the circle. So then the
- 6:23Speaker 2: next pitcher comes up and grabs that ball and warms
- 6:25Speaker 2: up with it, like we did in baseball games growing up,
- 6:28Speaker 2: like you usually do in softball.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I hate that. The separate ball system.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And so this is clearly financial reasons, right, why this group.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Does not want to do this.
- 6:36Speaker 2: There's no– they can afford– No, absolutely. No, I'm saying
- 6:40Speaker 2: they can't. I believe– people aren't going to like to
- 6:44Speaker 2: hear this, and I'm probably– if we clip this, your
- 6:46Speaker 2: triple S.A. is probably going to ban me from tournaments.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I think they want to attract coaches that cheat. I
- 6:54Speaker 2: think that the highest level of travel softball– JT's going
- 6:56Speaker 2: to run into this– The highest level of travel softball
- 6:59Speaker 2: is going to do every possible thing to gain an advantage.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And one thing that those coaches would want, this is
- 7:05Speaker 2: the only coach I would think that would be this way,
- 7:07Speaker 2: is we've got to have our softballs. We have a
- 7:09Speaker 2: certain brand. Our pitchers like a certain one. We're going
- 7:12Speaker 2: to scuff it up a certain way. They like to
- 7:15Speaker 2: manipulate the seams a certain way. We like to do
- 7:18Speaker 2: the dead ball that's cheating. So you are honestly like
- 7:23Speaker 2: you want those teams that it matters that much to them.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You want them in your tournament, so it's an incentive
- 7:29Speaker 2: to them. Where I think it's ridiculous and everybody should
- 7:31Speaker 2: just play with the same ball and make it fair
- 7:33Speaker 2: across the board. Everybody's got to do it, just like
- 7:36Speaker 2: everybody plays in the same weather. Whether it's too hot,
- 7:39Speaker 2: too cold, rainy, windy, whatever, you all have to play
- 7:41Speaker 2: in the elements. You all should play with the same softball.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I believe that USSS wants coaches who cheat. I truly
- 7:48Speaker 2: believe that.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I mean, you've been there and seen this. I will
- 7:52Speaker 1: go with your opinion on it. I just assume they
- 7:55Speaker 1: didn't want to pay people to track these down. It's
- 7:57Speaker 1: a one-time charge. They buy these softballs one time and
- 7:59Speaker 1: then go get them in the foul ball. That's crazy
- 8:02Speaker 1: to me, especially after everything else they're charging.
- 8:05Speaker 2: And by the way, if this is clipped, I'm not
- 8:07Speaker 2: saying what team my daughter's associated with. That's one name
- 8:10Speaker 2: that I will not name because I probably will get
- 8:12Speaker 2: banned from their tournaments if I said that. But I'm
- 8:15Speaker 2: no longer a coach either. So I'm just some parent.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I'm not a coach out there having to deal with it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: JT.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I apologize for the continuing of travel ball, but it
- 8:28Speaker 4: kind of ties into our competition that we talked about
- 8:31Speaker 4: a couple of minutes ago.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I did some quick math.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Three age groups, eight teams, so you've got 24 teams.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Let's just go on the low end and say there's
- 8:39Speaker 4: 10 kids per team. That's 240 kids at a tournament.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Each kid's probably going to have an average of two
- 8:46Speaker 4: people there. I'm not going to include grad guards and
- 8:49Speaker 4: aunts and uncles and those people. So that's 480 people. Chad,
- 8:55Speaker 4: admission's normally $ 12. I'm going to go on the low
- 8:57Speaker 4: end and say $ 10 to get in per person. That's
- 9:00Speaker 4: $ 4, 800 per person. This does not include the 24 teams
- 9:04Speaker 4: entry fee. Why in the hell can we not get
- 9:07Speaker 4: somebody to run a scoreboard? I know there's a thing
- 9:09Speaker 4: called Game Changer where we can see this on our phone.
- 9:12Speaker 4: I'm not talking about for the parents. I'm talking about
- 9:14Speaker 4: for these kids that are there trying to be competitive,
- 9:17Speaker 4: playing travel ball, baseball, softball.
- 9:20Speaker 1: There's sports. You know, four fields, eight fields, depending upon
- 9:23Speaker 1: where you are.
- 9:24Speaker 3: But the kids have no clue what the score is
- 9:26Speaker 3: unless it's a 1-0 game.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That is ridiculous.
- 9:29Speaker 4: I mean, and this is at every single tournament I've
- 9:32Speaker 4: ever been to. Chad, correct me if I'm wrong, but
- 9:34Speaker 4: why is there.
- 9:36Speaker 3: They have scoreboards. Yeah, I've never known it.
- 9:40Speaker 4: But we can't turn them on for a travel game?
- 9:43Speaker 2: I've never known it to be a thing. It's a
- 9:45Speaker 2: great point. It would be very simple– I mean, you're
- 9:48Speaker 2: renting the park that you're at, right? So like the
- 9:50Speaker 2: thought would be like, oh, well, you know, they're not
- 9:53Speaker 2: going to give us access or score, but you're renting
- 9:55Speaker 2: the park like you're renting the bathrooms. You're renting use
- 9:58Speaker 2: the concession stand. You're also very easily renting the little,
- 10:03Speaker 2: you know, the touchscreens that control the scoreboards.
- 10:07Speaker 3: When you're there too. I mean, I know that my team,
- 10:10Speaker 3: I would do it.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Like there are parents who have no responsibility who would
- 10:13Speaker 2: gladly say, I will be the scoreboard operator for our game.
- 10:16Speaker 3: When we go to a rec game, like I do
- 10:18Speaker 3: the scoreboard.
- 10:19Speaker 2: If we're the visiting team for my daughter's rec games,
- 10:21Speaker 2: seven-year-old softball, I do the scoreboard. If we're the home team,
- 10:24Speaker 2: I keep the book for the home book, for the
- 10:26Speaker 2: game's actual official score, right? That would be easy for, hey,
- 10:31Speaker 2: this team is, hey, which team wants to do the scoreboard?
- 10:34Speaker 3: And you have one parent who operates it.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I'm not even– I know, J.J., you're saying they should
- 10:38Speaker 2: have someone, some kid there that operates it. I would
- 10:41Speaker 2: be totally fine as a parent if you just gave
- 10:43Speaker 2: me access to it.
- 10:44Speaker 3: You've got a game-changer parent. You've got someone who keeps
- 10:46Speaker 3: the book.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Someone can easily run that scoreboard, which is not hard,
- 10:50Speaker 2: for the entirety of the game.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I'm with you. I think it would add to the experience.
- 10:55Speaker 4: I won't give you my $ 10. You give me a
- 10:58Speaker 4: different wristband. I get in for free, and I'm going
- 11:00Speaker 4: to run the scoreboard for you for four or five games.
- 11:02Speaker 4: It's completely– I mean, everybody wins there. But, yeah, and
- 11:06Speaker 4: it's not– this is not for the parents because they're
- 11:08Speaker 4: dying to know the score.
- 11:10Speaker 3: It's for the kids who are in the.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Dugout because their team's batting and they don't know if
- 11:13Speaker 4: they're up by two runs or down by two because
- 11:15Speaker 4: they can't look at the scoreboard.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It's a travel league game, and you're paid to be there.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It's expected. The only way it changes, in my opinion,
- 11:23Speaker 1: with no kids and no travel softball, is if the
- 11:26Speaker 1: team stopped going to that said tournament because it's not
- 11:30Speaker 1: as nice as it should be. If they're getting paid
- 11:33Speaker 1: a boatload of money, it sounds like. Man, they're getting
- 11:37Speaker 1: this for every team.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I've met the guy who runs the Play Local tournaments
- 11:43Speaker 2: here in Tennessee, and he watches our show. I would
- 11:46Speaker 2: appeal to him. He tries to do a lot of
- 11:48Speaker 2: different things to entice teams to go play in theirs.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And a lot of times it'll be like rec ball
- 11:52Speaker 2: all-star teams that play in this. It's not as high
- 11:54Speaker 2: level of teams that would go play a play local tournament.
- 11:58Speaker 2: But if you want to incentivize, I think a cool
- 12:00Speaker 2: selling point would be scoreboards.
- 12:02Speaker 3: We'll operate them.
- 12:04Speaker 2: You will have scoreboards this tournament, start to finish. We'll
- 12:07Speaker 2: have the access to them. A parent can run it.
- 12:09Speaker 2: But you will have the ability to have someone operate
- 12:12Speaker 2: a scoreboard for every single game. Because, JT, I've never
- 12:16Speaker 2: seen it. I've not been to one tournament that operates
- 12:19Speaker 2: a scoreboard on a Saturday or Sunday.
- 12:21Speaker 1: But, JT, you're saying you would do this for every game?
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I mean, I've got also a three-year-old, so it's a
- 12:27Speaker 4: little bit different. But we have plenty of parents that would–
- 12:30Speaker 4: I mean, I could for a game, you know, but
- 12:32Speaker 4: there are plenty of parents that have no problem go
- 12:35Speaker 4: up there and just change where the second or third
- 12:38Speaker 4: inning or, you know, added a run, it's five to four.
- 12:41Speaker 4: The kids need to know what the score is. Without
- 12:43Speaker 4: having to bug the coach or having to look over
- 12:45Speaker 4: their shoulder and ask their parents.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Man, I'm just thinking that paying to get in and
- 12:50Speaker 1: didn't also pay per parent or whatever is– I would
- 12:53Speaker 1: expect a score. Oh, yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I mean, look, I don't– I'm coaching games, and I'm
- 12:59Speaker 2: having to ask our parent who's doing Game Changer or
- 13:01Speaker 2: the book, we got three that inning?
- 13:03Speaker 3: Two-one now?
- 13:04Speaker 2: And I'm just double-checking half the time, but like four-three?
- 13:07Speaker 2: I'll have to check after each half inning. Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 3: They only got one that inning, right?
- 13:10Speaker 2: I'm just confirming because there's no scoreboard, but also you've
- 13:14Speaker 2: got to know exactly what the score is in the official.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Book every time.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And the umpire would want to know.
- 13:19Speaker 3: The umpire comes in every inning and on their way
- 13:21Speaker 3: out will ask.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 2: They'll find the official scorekeeper, your parent that does it,
- 13:27Speaker 2: and they'll ask them what the score is, especially when
- 13:29Speaker 2: you get late in the game, so they know the
- 13:30Speaker 2: situation if time's up.
- 13:33Speaker 1: JT, our friend Fred Jackson told us you always have
- 13:37Speaker 1: the best primary complaints. And that we, Chad and I,
- 13:40Speaker 1: need to pick our game up a bit. We need
- 13:42Speaker 1: to step our game up. Well, we had a rule
- 13:45Speaker 1: where we weren't going to repeat complaints each week. So
- 13:48Speaker 1: we've been doing this for so long. We have legitimate complaints,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but should we reset? That was the question. Should we
- 13:55Speaker 1: reset and go back to the other complaints that we've done?
- 13:58Speaker 1: We've got 15 years of this.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Yeah, JT has the entire menu available. We're going to
- 14:04Speaker 2: talk restaurants. This is like the Cheesecake Factory menu that
- 14:07Speaker 2: JT has in front of him to choose from. And
- 14:09Speaker 2: we're more of a high-end steakhouse where there's five options available.
- 14:13Speaker 2: of different cuts of steak in three sides and a
- 14:15Speaker 2: couple appetizers. We just don't have as many complaints to
- 14:20Speaker 2: choose from. We're going to get one delivered to us
- 14:22Speaker 2: every single week when something happens in our life. But
- 14:25Speaker 2: we've utilized the whole menu. I would say let's reset.
- 14:30Speaker 2: We can go back to old complaints at this point.
- 14:32Speaker 2: This is a new show. We're 51 shows in to
- 14:36Speaker 2: the new company here at Sport & State. So let's
- 14:38Speaker 2: completely reset and start primary complaints anew.
- 14:41Speaker 1: JT, what I'm saying is your appearance on this is
- 14:44Speaker 1: far better than any of the Hard Rock Bet stuff
- 14:47Speaker 1: that we do, apparently.
- 14:49Speaker 4: I was going to say, tell Fred if he enjoys
- 14:51Speaker 4: any of my work here to not follow me on
- 14:53Speaker 4: any of my gambling expertise with Hard Rock Bet.
- 14:58Speaker 2: If we could bet JT's primary complaints at Hard Rock Bet,
- 15:02Speaker 2: Fred would do that, but do not bet his college
- 15:04Speaker 2: football pick.
- 15:05Speaker 4: You should just flip-flop my pick for the bundle for
- 15:08Speaker 4: your lock, and we'd be great. You're going to win
- 15:12Speaker 4: this week.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Guaranteed to win.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Catfish Jake says, my primary complaint, the stay and play
- 15:17Speaker 2: requirements by some tournaments and hotels. You should be able
- 15:20Speaker 2: to stay wherever the hell you want when you're traveling
- 15:23Speaker 2: and paying to do that. I have heard of this
- 15:26Speaker 2: where some, they have deals with hotels where you have
- 15:29Speaker 2: to stay. Like this is a travel tournament where you
- 15:32Speaker 2: have to go stay at a certain hotel.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Few and far between. I've seen that though.
- 15:36Speaker 1: What a business model this is.
- 15:38Speaker 2: The tournament I was in on Sunday, there was a
- 15:40Speaker 2: team that drove from Toledo, Ohio to Cookville, Tennessee.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Eight hours and stayed the weekend for that tournament.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I guess it's the guaranteed games that you're getting i don't.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Know i mean it's just a very random place to
- 15:54Speaker 2: pick to go oh it is if you're in toledo
- 15:56Speaker 2: ohio like i'd understand going to the tournament in the
- 15:58Speaker 2: smoky mountains right now like in gatlinburg would be cool
- 16:01Speaker 2: go to the beach if you're gonna make a long
- 16:04Speaker 2: trip you know like that but like and i love
- 16:06Speaker 2: cookville love the upper cumberland beautiful this time of year
- 16:09Speaker 2: it was a beautiful sunday to play softball in cookville
- 16:11Speaker 2: but If I'm in Toledo, Ohio, I don't know that Cookville,
- 16:14Speaker 2: Tennessee is the destination I'm picking to drive eight hours
- 16:17Speaker 2: to play two days of softball.
- 16:19Speaker 1: We were rated when it came to and ranked when
- 16:22Speaker 1: it came to primary complaint. Clay has ranked restaurants. We

- 17:51Speaker 1: The Clay Buck stream live right here at sportandstate.com.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Let me quickly address something because Next Round Live is
- 17:57Speaker 2: coming up next, and they do a great job covering
- 17:59Speaker 2: all things Alabama. Going back to what I said on
- 18:03Speaker 2: officiating being an issue in the Tennessee-South Carolina game, I
- 18:06Speaker 2: got a lot of Alabama fans who are, oh, well,
- 18:10Speaker 2: when we didn't get the pass interference call against Georgia—
- 18:13Speaker 2: And we complained about it. Tennessee fans told us to
- 18:16Speaker 2: shut up and stop whining, and we lost the game legitimately.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And all Tennessee fans do is blame every loss on
- 18:22Speaker 2: the officials. A, Tennessee fans don't blame every loss on officials.
- 18:27Speaker 2: If Tennessee got their ass kicked the way Alabama did
- 18:29Speaker 2: against Tennessee, I guarantee you they wouldn't be talking only
- 18:32Speaker 2: about the officials. They'd be talking about how weak the
- 18:34Speaker 2: offensive line was, how they can't block anybody, how defensively
- 18:38Speaker 2: they couldn't stop the run. They'd be talking about all
- 18:40Speaker 2: the same things Alabama fans are also. Here's the other
- 18:44Speaker 2: thing you need to keep in mind. Multiple things can
- 18:46Speaker 2: be true at once. I think people have a really
- 18:49Speaker 2: hard time understanding this, okay? And I said this on Monday.
- 18:54Speaker 2: David Smith Jr. 's crew is not the only reason
- 18:57Speaker 2: Tennessee lost. Even when they had three touchdowns overturned by
- 19:02Speaker 2: penalty flags, even when they didn't get the obvious pass interference,
- 19:06Speaker 2: even when they didn't flag the obvious late hit on
- 19:09Speaker 2: the final play of the game before the field goal
- 19:11Speaker 2: that would have knocked them 15 yards back and possibly
- 19:14Speaker 2: out of.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Field goal range. Tennessee had plenty of chances to win.
- 19:16Speaker 2: If they execute a fourth-and-one play that they did earlier
- 19:19Speaker 2: in the game, they win the game. They likely ice
- 19:21Speaker 2: the clock, force South Carolina to call the remaining timeouts,
- 19:24Speaker 2: and probably win that game, and they're close to field
- 19:26Speaker 2: goal range at that point, to make it a two-sore game.
- 19:29Speaker 2: All those things are true. The officiating was terrible, and
- 19:33Speaker 2: it was lopsided against Tennessee. And Tennessee was still good
- 19:38Speaker 2: enough and had chances to put South Carolina away, and
- 19:41Speaker 2: because of their own undisciplined play and terrible execution on
- 19:44Speaker 2: a fourth down play by the quarterback, they didn't accomplish it.
- 19:48Speaker 3: All those things are true. It's not true. always just
- 19:51Speaker 3: the one thing.
- 19:52Speaker 2: We get into this mindset of it's always just one
- 19:55Speaker 2: thing all the time.
- 19:56Speaker 3: It's not.
- 19:56Speaker 2: It's a lot of things that go into that. That's
- 19:58Speaker 2: my PSA statement. for Alabama fans in my mention right now.
- 20:02Speaker 2: And the guys on Next Round Live are smart enough
- 20:04Speaker 2: to know that also. And they know that coming out
- 20:06Speaker 2: of the Georgia-Alabama game. That was a terrible no call.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Should have been a pass interference late in that game
- 20:11Speaker 2: that would have given Alabama more of a chance. But also,
- 20:14Speaker 2: of course, Alabama could have done other things over the
- 20:17Speaker 2: course of a 60-minute game to ensure that that wasn't
- 20:21Speaker 2: the deal breaker.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And I would add in, my biggest takeaway from that
- 20:25Speaker 1: call in the Georgia-Bama game is that Bama didn't get
- 20:28Speaker 1: the call at home. They're known for getting that call
- 20:32Speaker 1: at home, especially. And that's when you realize, oh, Dick
- 20:35Speaker 1: Saban's out there. Seriously. I thought that in the moment.
- 20:40Speaker 1: They didn't get that call at Bryant-Diddy Stadium. That's insane. Also,
- 20:47Speaker 1: the number one on the list of Clay's rankings of
- 20:50Speaker 1: top-chain restaurants is kind of crazy. Chad, we did a
- 20:56Speaker 1: breakdown of... I forgot who did these rankings, but we
- 21:01Speaker 1: were guessing who was on this list. You remember doing
- 21:03Speaker 1: this show where we were guessing these chain restaurants?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Oh, it was like the most popular in each state.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Most popular, yes.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And we were surprised about who was number one and
- 21:13Speaker 1: two on that list that year because normally it's Olive Garden.
- 21:19Speaker 1: They dominated for years on this, whatever media outlet put
- 21:25Speaker 1: together this ranking based on popularity. My guess is that
- 21:29Speaker 1: Clay doesn't have Olive Garden, number one, based on what
- 21:32Speaker 1: we know he likes. But I'm assuming the top five
- 21:36Speaker 1: is crazy. Here it is. Outback is number two. Texas Roadhouse,
- 21:40Speaker 1: number one.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Well, this is not a top five. This is different
- 21:45Speaker 2: categories that he did. He didn't do like an outright ranking.
- 21:48Speaker 2: He had best sit-down chain restaurant at Texas Roadhouse.
- 21:52Speaker 1: He tweeted out, though, that Texas Roadhouse is the undisputed GOAT.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Undisputed king of all of them, yeah. He's got that
- 21:57Speaker 2: as best restaurant overall of any category. He did best dish,
- 22:02Speaker 2: which is a Bloomin' Onion from Outback. He did best Mexican,
- 22:06Speaker 2: which is Chewy's. Best Italian, Pucca di Peppo.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Best Asian, P.F.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Chang.
- 22:11Speaker 2: We need to go back, though, because this all started
- 22:13Speaker 2: because of the Cheesecake Factory. Somebody in the YouTube chat
- 22:16Speaker 2: explained this to me because I do not follow politics
- 22:18Speaker 2: closely enough. Sorry, guilty. I don't care that much about it,
- 22:22Speaker 2: about the rhetoric and the back and forth on all
- 22:25Speaker 2: of it. But apparently, Barack Obama... had some sort of dig.
- 22:29Speaker 2: He's campaigning for Democrats across the country. And he had
- 22:33Speaker 2: some sort of dig about the Trump White House is
- 22:35Speaker 2: run like a cheesecake factory, or it's like a cheesecake factory.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I don't know what was said.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So I guarantee you, somebody.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Watching the show right now can fill me in and
- 22:45Speaker 2: I will read it and let you know exactly what happened.
- 22:48Speaker 2: But some sort of diss about, and I even asked
- 22:50Speaker 2: our crew before and they weren't quite sure either. Some
- 22:53Speaker 2: sort of diss saying Trump is cheesecake factory.
- 22:56Speaker 3: And yada, yada, yada.
- 22:56Speaker 2: So Clay comes back on Clay and Buck and says,
- 22:59Speaker 2: Cheesecake Factory is awesome. I don't know why you're going
- 23:01Speaker 2: to demean the people that would feel like it's a
- 23:04Speaker 2: luxury to go to Cheesecake Factory. It's not cheap. It's
- 23:06Speaker 2: a huge menu. And then Clay started talking about how
- 23:11Speaker 2: Cheesecake Factory was a childhood luxury for him. Now, liberal
- 23:15Speaker 2: outlets have come back and said, Clay, Cheesecake Factory was
- 23:19Speaker 2: put in Nashville when you were 26 years old. You
- 23:22Speaker 2: did not go to Cheesecake Factory as a child when
- 23:24Speaker 2: you grew up. So you're lying about this. Clay then
- 23:28Speaker 2: responded and said, well, it was in D.C. when I
- 23:30Speaker 2: was at school at George Washington. Sorry, I didn't get
- 23:32Speaker 2: the exact time right. Clay's point is well taken because
- 23:37Speaker 2: it would be a childhood luxury. The way I grew up,
- 23:40Speaker 2: if we drove to Green Hills and went to Cheesecake Factory,
- 23:43Speaker 2: that's a special occasion. I mean, that's not something we're
- 23:46Speaker 2: doing quite often. Like that would be a big expense
- 23:49Speaker 2: for my family to go to it. So I can
- 23:51Speaker 2: see how people would say, why are you dissing a
- 23:55Speaker 2: place that's not cheap? And it's pretty good, which I agree.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Cheesecake Factory is pretty good. My wife worked at Cheesecake
- 24:02Speaker 2: Factory when she was at Belmont for about three months
- 24:05Speaker 2: because it was so hard because it was busy all
- 24:07Speaker 2: the time. And they were so good at training everybody.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You had to know every item on the menu. You
- 24:11Speaker 2: had to taste every item. You had to know it
- 24:13Speaker 2: up and down.
- 24:13Speaker 3: She was a hostess.
- 24:14Speaker 2: She wasn't even a server at the time, and it
- 24:16Speaker 2: was difficult just doing that job. So, yeah, look, I
- 24:21Speaker 2: get where Clay's coming from on that, but this is
- 24:23Speaker 2: where the whole list, it stemmed from that discussion.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yes, okay.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Obama was saying the White House is Cheesecake Factory. It's
- 24:32Speaker 2: a weird analogy is what someone said. So then Clay
- 24:35Speaker 2: was defending the White House saying Cheesecake Factory is also good.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So that gets us to Clay's list of best restaurant,
- 24:43Speaker 2: best Mexican restaurant. Hutton, I'll start here. What do you
- 24:46Speaker 2: think about Texas Roadhouse? Of all the sit-down places, do
- 24:50Speaker 2: you think that's the best?
- 24:52Speaker 1: I don't think about Texas Roadhouse is how I would respond.
- 24:56Speaker 1: In terms of where he's got the Bloomin' Onion and
- 24:58Speaker 1: all this stuff, I think about those things. I don't
- 25:00Speaker 1: think about the Texas Roadhouse menu at all, and I
- 25:03Speaker 1: pass it a lot. It's around, but it's not one
- 25:06Speaker 1: that I choose constantly to where I would call it
- 25:10Speaker 1: the GOAT at all. I'm with you.
- 25:13Speaker 2: There was one built in Mount Juliet recently. I've been
- 25:16Speaker 2: once and it was packed and I thought it was good.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I mean, I can't, the problem with that, like at
- 25:21Speaker 2: that level, I can't for sure say something is better
- 25:25Speaker 2: except for one entry that I will give here that
- 25:28Speaker 2: Clay did not consider.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Cheddars.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Cheddars is incredible for the value. In terms of value,
- 25:37Speaker 2: you're not, you're going to spend less there. You're going
- 25:39Speaker 2: to get more food. I've never had a bad experience
- 25:41Speaker 2: at Cheddars. Now, I did look this up, and Cheddar's
- 25:44Speaker 2: is only in three states, which Clay will love these
- 25:46Speaker 2: three states.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Texas, Florida, Tennessee.
- 25:49Speaker 2: They have 193 locations in those three states. That's where
- 25:53Speaker 2: they're located. So this is not a national thing, but
- 25:56Speaker 2: a lot of locations in those three states.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I love Cheddar's.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I'd put that in consideration over Texas Roadhouse. Flash the
- 26:01Speaker 2: rankings again, guys, please, of all the best restaurants. Texas Roadhouse,
- 26:05Speaker 2: best restaurant. Bloomin' Onion and Outback. the best dish. I
- 26:10Speaker 2: can't argue with that. It's a very famous one. I'd
- 26:13Speaker 2: like to add some consideration to the Cheddar Bay Biscuits
- 26:15Speaker 2: at Red Lobster. If we're talking about just the best
- 26:18Speaker 2: reason to go to a restaurant and it's free when
- 26:21Speaker 2: you get there.
- 26:23Speaker 1: That's a great example of one. You've got the salsa,
- 26:26Speaker 1: the jalapeno ranch salsa that Chewy's offers is fantastic as well.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:32Speaker 2: When you have to ask for the special, I was
- 26:34Speaker 2: told like, just cup your hands in a circle. Like
- 26:36Speaker 2: I want the special and Salsa, and they bring that
- 26:39Speaker 2: ranch jalapeno salsa to you. I've got no problem with Chewy's.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I think Clay nailed it on that one. Chewy's is
- 26:47Speaker 2: a great one. Uncle Julio's, just thinking of other actual
- 26:51Speaker 2: chains that are high-end, Mexican, really good also, but I'm
- 26:54Speaker 2: a huge fan of the Elvis Presley Memorial meal at
- 26:58Speaker 2: Chewy's going.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Way back, so I like that one.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Clay says he's going to get hate from the Olive
- 27:03Speaker 2: Garden people, but Buca di Peppo.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Is his choice, which is a family style.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I'm thinking if you're going family style or that level
- 27:12Speaker 2: of Italian restaurant, I think Maggiano's to me is about
- 27:16Speaker 2: the same price point.
- 27:17Speaker 3: And I would prefer that one.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Man, for best Italian, I'm thinking anything. I don't think
- 27:25Speaker 1: about Buca di Beppo either. I'm judging this just based
- 27:29Speaker 1: on what's top of mind for me. It would be
- 27:34Speaker 1: Olive Garden, unfortunately. just how they have marketed their restaurant
- 27:38Speaker 1: and how often we would go, uh, growing up. That's
- 27:42Speaker 1: where we would go if we were going to Italian.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And you know what it's for is that it's the endless,
- 27:46Speaker 1: it's the endless pasta, the never ending pasta.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 2: That, I mean, that's definitely the most famous and most
- 27:54Speaker 2: popular of all of them. Um, A lot of love
- 27:58Speaker 2: for Texas Roadhouse in our chat right now saying absolutely
- 28:00Speaker 2: undisputed number one. I agree with Clay on that one. Again,
- 28:04Speaker 2: I think it's good. I think it's certainly under consideration.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I like Cheddar's better than Texas Roadhouse. Someone said that
- 28:10Speaker 2: this is a great one. The rolls with the cinnamon butter.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I think of that more of a Logan's Roadhouse thing from.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Back in the day. You know what I'm talking about here, Hutton?
- 28:18Speaker 2: Like the Cheddar Bay Biscuits, they bring out that cinnamon
- 28:20Speaker 2: butter you can dip the rolls in.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Delicious.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's Logan's, right?
- 28:26Speaker 2: Apparently, but people are saying Texas Roadhouse has that also.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Didn't know.
- 28:30Speaker 2: So that maybe puts Texas Roadhouse, gives them an edge
- 28:32Speaker 2: in that one. Baylor in here says Chewy's is Tex-Mex,
- 28:36Speaker 2: not really Mexican.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I mean, semantics.
- 28:40Speaker 2: We're talking about Tex-Mex, Mexican, however you want to do it.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Clay even said, I'm not talking Chinese, Korean, Japanese. I'm
- 28:46Speaker 2: just going to classify it as Asian when he says P.F.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Chang's.
- 28:49Speaker 2: He didn't want to be labeled a racist. So he
- 28:51Speaker 2: just went with all of Asia for a restaurant. P.F.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Chang's is the choice.
- 28:56Speaker 2: The only one I would even think of is Payway,
- 28:58Speaker 2: which is the fast, casual version of P.F.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Chang's that I really like also. And Panda Express is
- 29:04Speaker 3: fast food. This is more sit-down. But yeah, I mean,
- 29:06Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 29:07Speaker 2: We were probably sheltered where we grew up. I didn't
- 29:11Speaker 2: grow up with a lot of Asian restaurant chains in
- 29:14Speaker 2: my hometown. But if I'm thinking Asian sit-down restaurant, boom, P.F.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Chang's is the only one that comes to mind.
- 29:21Speaker 3: And the other one is.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Payway Express, which is fast, casual version of P.F.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Chang's.
- 29:26Speaker 1: See, here I'm thinking Sunda, but that's just recently. It
- 29:29Speaker 1: would be P.F. Chang's if I'm just going throughout the
- 29:32Speaker 1: entire life. You're right. That's the go for me.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Clay went to all of his favorite local spots. Bourbon Steak,
- 29:39Speaker 2: you mentioned. Perry's Steakhouse in Franklin has different spots locally.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I thought the chain debate was interesting. Cheesecake Factory is
- 29:50Speaker 2: tough to beat, too, only because of the options. You're
- 29:53Speaker 2: going to find something there you love. No matter what,
- 29:56Speaker 2: like somebody might hate Olive Garden because they don't like
- 29:59Speaker 2: Italian food. You can get every type of food possible
- 30:02Speaker 2: at Cheesecake Factory.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And you can get something. You can order an appetizer
- 30:06Speaker 1: that everyone at the table likes. No doubt. Those mac
- 30:10Speaker 1: and cheese balls or whatever it is. Everyone would like that. Everyone,
- 30:15Speaker 1: for the most part, likes the Bloomin' Onions. that wants
- 30:18Speaker 1: to try the blue and onion. You mentioned Red Lobster.
- 30:20Speaker 1: You could get that there too with those biscuits that
- 30:22Speaker 1: you mentioned.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I've had a bad experience at the last two Outback
- 30:26Speaker 2: Steakhouses I went to that I just thought the quality
- 30:28Speaker 2: of the food was so drastically different at one spot
- 30:31Speaker 2: I went to compared to other ones I've been to
- 30:33Speaker 2: in the past that it left a bad taste in
- 30:35Speaker 2: my mouth. But before that experience, I would put Outback
- 30:39Speaker 2: Steakhouse right there with Texas Roadhouse or any of these
- 30:43Speaker 2: other spots.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Now that I know.
- 30:44Speaker 2: That if it's true that Texas Roadhouse has the cinnamon butter,
- 30:47Speaker 2: With the rolls, it's way higher on my list now.
- 30:50Speaker 1: See, Logan's for me is top, ahead of Outback, just
- 30:56Speaker 1: based on what I like to eat there. Cheddar's, though,
- 30:59Speaker 1: you and I both like grilled salmon a lot, so
- 31:01Speaker 1: I'm thinking that more than anything. Not everybody goes for that.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Cheddar's has good grilled salmon. The spazania, the combo spaghetti
- 31:09Speaker 2: lasagna at Cheddar's is great. They've got a great Monte
- 31:12Speaker 2: Cristo sandwich. That's like, I mean, these things are terrible
- 31:16Speaker 2: for you, but delicious. It's like a fried, you know,
- 31:19Speaker 2: ham and cheese that you dip in grape preserves. It's
- 31:22Speaker 2: unbelievably good. Cheddars, I'm telling you, I've never had a
- 31:26Speaker 2: bad experience at Cheddars. We talked about this with Fast
- 31:28Speaker 2: Food Hunt at Arby's. Never had a bad experience at Arby's.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Totally agree.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I feel it's 100% satisfaction every time I've been to
- 31:34Speaker 2: a Cheddars. I'm putting that ahead of Texas Roadhouse. But
- 31:37Speaker 2: I'll also say, I mean, Clay's right. Texas Roadhouse is
- 31:40Speaker 2: pretty great. I've never had a terrible experience there. I've
- 31:43Speaker 2: just been to Cheddar's, I think, more than there. Longhorn
- 31:46Speaker 2: Steakhouse is not one I think about much. There's a
- 31:49Speaker 2: reason for it. I think Texas Roadhouse is superior to Longhorn.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Which one is it with the peanuts on the floor?
- 31:58Speaker 2: That was Logan's Roadhouse. And Logan's is the one I
- 32:01Speaker 2: think about with the cinnamon butter. But again, we're being
- 32:04Speaker 2: told that they have the same thing at Texas Roadhouse.
- 32:07Speaker 1: We should go. We should have a.
- 32:11Speaker 1: We should go to the bar and watch some games there.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I don't think peanut shells on the floor is a selling.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Point to me for Logan's.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I just remember everyone.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but some people are like, that's what you remember
- 32:21Speaker 2: about it, but it's not like, let's go to the
- 32:23Speaker 2: place that has peanut shells all over the floor for Logan's.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I'm sure they use that as a selling point, but
- 32:30Speaker 2: it's not something that entices me.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Imagine working there and having to clean that up.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I can't.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean, God bless the people who work in all
- 32:38Speaker 2: these restaurants. because I don't know that I would enjoy
- 32:41Speaker 2: any part of a job at one of these places.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Where would you put Cracker Barrel, real quick?
- 32:47Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh.
- 32:47Speaker 2: In terms of what they are, which is, I would say,
- 32:52Speaker 2: a level below what Clay was ranking. It's a chain restaurant, though.
- 32:55Speaker 2: It's elite. It is a chain sit-down restaurant, for sure.
- 33:00Speaker 2: But I still think of it as more of a
- 33:01Speaker 2: fast casual, even though it is a sit-down restaurant.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Cracker Barrel is elite. I love it.
- 33:06Speaker 1: And if we're doing things where you qualify if you
- 33:10Speaker 1: don't have a drive-thru, that would be Waffle House as well.
- 33:14Speaker 1: They would be in this.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Saturday, Hutton, big moment in the Withrow household. My wife
- 33:20Speaker 2: Angie has poisoned my kids into thinking that Waffle House sucks,
- 33:24Speaker 2: that it's dirty and it's not good. I'm saying Waffle
- 33:27Speaker 2: House is an American institution. It is the last great
- 33:30Speaker 2: American diner. I will die by this. I loved Waffle
- 33:34Speaker 2: House since I was a kid. And there's a new
- 33:36Speaker 2: Waffle House that's put up in our hometown. And a
- 33:39Speaker 2: lot of people have been going to it. It's kind
- 33:41Speaker 2: of in the middle of town. And after practice Saturday morning,
- 33:44Speaker 2: took Evie and one of her travel ball teammates, Berkeley,
- 33:47Speaker 2: to the Waffle House for a lunch slash breakfast before
- 33:51Speaker 2: dropping Berkeley off at her brother's baseball tournament at the
- 33:54Speaker 2: Mount Juliet Park. And?
- 33:56Speaker 3: She loved it.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:57Speaker 3: She loved it.
- 33:58Speaker 2: And I said, Evie, now we can do some daddy-daughter
- 34:00Speaker 2: dates for breakfast to Waffle House, since I know that
- 34:03Speaker 2: you love this. I told her all about scattered, smothered, covered, chunked. However,
- 34:08Speaker 2: she wanted the hash browns. She loved the hash browns.
- 34:11Speaker 2: She got that waffle hash brown combo. Loved all of it.
- 34:15Speaker 2: So I have created a Waffle House fan in my family,
- 34:18Speaker 2: and I'm thrilled about this.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Absolutely. Yes. That is a huge moment. She will never
- 34:22Speaker 1: forget it. Or Chad.
- 34:24Speaker 2: And I think it's just like the people that don't
- 34:27Speaker 2: like it, the context is you're there at 3 in
- 34:30Speaker 2: the morning. And that's why they don't like it because
- 34:32Speaker 2: of the clientele at that point because it's 24 hours.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But if you just wake up at 7 a.m. on
- 34:37Speaker 2: a Saturday and go to.
- 34:38Speaker 3: A Waffle House, it's great.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Refilling your coffee constantly. Our waitress was a delight. It
- 34:43Speaker 2: was nice talking to us, asking about their softball team.
- 34:46Speaker 2: It was a terrific experience.
- 34:48Speaker 3: I love a good Waffle House.
- 34:49Speaker 1: The breakfast aroma. Same thing with Cracker Barrel. Every one
- 34:52Speaker 1: of them, very similar when you walk through the doors.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Love it.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Now, I will say the one thing you must prepare for.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Wash your clothes immediately when you leave the Waffle House
- 35:01Speaker 2: because you're going to smell like an open grill. No
- 35:05Speaker 2: matter what, you're there in the open kitchen and you're
- 35:08Speaker 2: watching all of it.
- 35:08Speaker 1: The breakfast cigar.
- 35:10Speaker 2: We support our troops all the time. Salute to service,
- 35:14Speaker 2: as we showed with our green shirt yesterday. Waffle House,
- 35:17Speaker 2: I believe, was started by an Army short order cook.
- 35:21Speaker 2: So a lot of their shorthand and everything they do
- 35:23Speaker 2: is based on military style short order cooking. So it is,
- 35:28Speaker 2: I mean, their routine is top-notch in terms of getting
- 35:32Speaker 2: that order to the cook, getting it out to you quickly.
- 35:35Speaker 2: I love, I'm hungry right now thinking about it. I
- 35:38Speaker 2: love Waffle House.
- 35:40Speaker 1: See, we're thinking Waffle House now over Texas Roadhouse.
- 35:42Speaker 2: We're going to have to add this to our routine,
- 35:44Speaker 2: not just Arby's, but we'll have to stop at a
- 35:45Speaker 2: Waffle House on all of our road trips now too.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Coming up, we've got thoughts on the WNBA. Let's trade
- 35:52Speaker 1: ahead here on Hutton and Withrow. We're about to jump
- 35:55Speaker 1: in on Hutton and Withrow. with some WNBA thoughts. We
- 35:59Speaker 1: could discuss Clay Travis's WNBA team, expansion team, the National Balls.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Founded by Clay, Jennifer Say is going to have the
- 36:08Speaker 1: exclusive apparel. And she is with XXXY Athletics. She's a
- 36:13Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked
- 36:17Speaker 1: away from a corporate job there rather than say something
- 36:20Speaker 1: that she didn't believe. And she started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 36:23Speaker 1: And the mission in their words is, is to empower
- 36:25Speaker 1: female athletes. Take a stand for fair competition. They call
- 36:29Speaker 1: it the T that launched a movement. And this is
- 36:31Speaker 1: real athletic apparel, Chad.
- 36:33Speaker 2: T's, truckers' hats out right now. If you want the shirt,
- 36:36Speaker 2: that's where you get it. New customers get 20% off
- 36:38Speaker 2: your first order when you sign up and free shipping
- 36:40Speaker 2: over $ 100. XXXYathletics.com. That's XX-XYathletics.com.
- 36:46Speaker 1: So WNBA with the.
- 36:50Speaker 1: They won't speak out against trans joining the team. They
- 36:54Speaker 1: wouldn't define what a woman was. They don't like anyone
- 36:58Speaker 1: that is a fan of the Indiana team with Caitlin Clark.
- 37:01Speaker 1: All of them. They don't like us. Chad, what do
- 37:05Speaker 1: they like?
- 37:07Speaker 2: Well, apparently they like matinee WNBA finals matchups on a
- 37:10Speaker 2: Thursday afternoon at 1230. Boy, that nothing says big time
- 37:13Speaker 2: sporting event. Like playing the possible decisive game of your
- 37:17Speaker 2: championship at 1230 on a Thursday, all because you wanted
- 37:21Speaker 2: to move out of your 3500 seat home because you
- 37:24Speaker 2: might have 7000 fans show up to the game. So
- 37:27Speaker 2: you move into your NBA arena. But in doing so,
- 37:31Speaker 2: you have a conflict with the actual NBA team in town,
- 37:34Speaker 2: with the Atlanta Hawks playing the Cleveland Cavs tonight. The
- 37:36Speaker 2: NBA would not budge. They don't like moving games unless
- 37:39Speaker 2: it's a severe weather issue that's taking place because there's
- 37:43Speaker 2: a domino effect of every team's schedule. And I know
- 37:46Speaker 2: if they moved it, it would have caused, I think,
- 37:49Speaker 2: Cleveland flying in late at night and playing like eight
- 37:52Speaker 2: hours later in the game. And they didn't want to
- 37:54Speaker 2: do that because of a back-to-back. So they're playing the
- 37:57Speaker 2: game at 1230.
- 37:58Speaker 1: You have fans that want to go to that game.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Season ticket holders that are planning things. This is just
- 38:03Speaker 1: typical football. you have to plan this way in advance.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And you have to plan for the small arenas with
- 38:11Speaker 1: a team that is capable of making your finals and
- 38:14Speaker 1: winning a title. This is on the planning and the
- 38:18Speaker 1: foresight of the league trying to do this and acting
- 38:23Speaker 1: like the NBA would actually do this and now they're
- 38:26Speaker 1: pissed off about it. It's also, it reminds me of
- 38:30Speaker 1: school day. Remember when you would be able to go
- 38:32Speaker 1: watch a game or they would play something in your gym?
- 38:35Speaker 1: and in the middle of the day you'd have a
- 38:37Speaker 1: high school game. This is what this reminds me of.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, I think the only way to
- 38:44Speaker 2: sell out that arena is if you brought every local
- 38:46Speaker 2: school in for free to watch the game also.
- 38:49Speaker 3: You could bring.
- 38:50Speaker 2: All the little kids from all over Atlanta to go
- 38:53Speaker 2: watch the game. You could certainly make that happen. I'm
- 38:56Speaker 2: looking at a column right now from our old buddy
- 38:58Speaker 2: Dan Wolkin who says, let's put the blame for the
- 39:01Speaker 2: Game 6 scheduling debacle where it belongs, with the league,
- 39:05Speaker 2: and with the dream. So putting it squarely on them
- 39:08Speaker 2: and no one else, not the NBA, not a misogynistic
- 39:11Speaker 2: decision to not move the game or anything else. I
- 39:15Speaker 2: read another column from Yahoo where it was basically, this
- 39:18Speaker 2: is going to be what people remember about this series.
- 39:21Speaker 2: It's all the back and forth about the scheduling problems
- 39:25Speaker 2: and not all this great play with the rookie of
- 39:27Speaker 2: the year. And this person also got to like point
- 39:30Speaker 2: number eight before they mentioned Caitlin Clark on reasons that
- 39:33Speaker 2: people watch the WNBA and why they had such a
- 39:35Speaker 2: successful year. So I kind of know exactly where they're
- 39:37Speaker 2: coming from.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:38Speaker 2: When you wait that long to get to Caitlin Clark
- 39:40Speaker 2: and propping up Angel Reese's, but the defensive player of
- 39:43Speaker 2: the year, the WNBA and all these things we should
- 39:46Speaker 2: remember this 2026 season for is.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's always something other than basketball that I remember
- 39:52Speaker 1: the WNBA for. Always. Something off the court. Or if
- 39:56Speaker 1: it's on the court, it's a fight or it's pointing
- 39:59Speaker 1: a finger. It's never about a play or a moment
- 40:02Speaker 1: that helps win a game.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Ever. Never.
- 40:05Speaker 1: And they don't embrace that, but that's the only reason
- 40:09Speaker 1: that they have the attention. And they should have the
- 40:12Speaker 1: attention for their play. If they can sell out their arena, great,
- 40:16Speaker 1: do it. Have the atmosphere. I would have that over
- 40:20Speaker 1: empty seats and have 7,000.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, the games in Golden State look
- 40:29Speaker 2: good from an atmosphere standpoint. I'm seeing highlights roll right now,
- 40:32Speaker 2: and the crowd seems into it. It seems pretty packed.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Steve Kerr joked, it's like, well, playing at 1230 is
- 40:37Speaker 2: better than playing that night in front of 75 people
- 40:40Speaker 2: at the local YMCA. was what he said about the
- 40:43Speaker 2: game scheduling issue when he was asked about it. I mean, look,
- 40:47Speaker 2: just the fact that– and I know they're going to
- 40:49Speaker 2: move up in arena, I think, next year. They're going
- 40:51Speaker 2: to play in State Farm Arena where the Hawks play.
- 40:54Speaker 2: But the first thing is you've got to get out
- 40:57Speaker 2: of playing in a 3,500-seat building. There's so much demand
- 41:02Speaker 2: that that's no longer viable. And the dream they're going
- 41:04Speaker 2: to be doing that moving forward– But, I mean, Hunt,
- 41:08Speaker 2: you're right. It's just there's nothing of basketball substance that
- 41:13Speaker 2: jumps out to me with that league right now that's
- 41:15Speaker 2: pulling me in. It's always these– it's either made-up controversy
- 41:20Speaker 2: or actual controversy.
- 41:22Speaker 3: And now you could have a WNBA season.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I saw the coach of the Golden State Valkyries state
- 41:28Speaker 2: that he wishes it was a national holiday when the
- 41:30Speaker 2: WNBA season was going to end, on a WNBA championship day,
- 41:34Speaker 2: that everybody could take off work and watch the WNBA
- 41:37Speaker 2: championship be played out. But that's not reality. I mean,
- 41:41Speaker 2: it's always something like this we're talking about. Always.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And Holly Rose was saying that they could sell out
- 41:45Speaker 1: the arena.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Oh, she said, I've got a solution. Let's move it
- 41:48Speaker 2: to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Oh, the stadium.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Getting absolutely crushed over that suggestion.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yes. Coming up, we have the bundle where JT is
- 42:00Speaker 1: winning this week. He's going to join us in the victories,
- 42:03Speaker 1: and we're going to hit on the three-leg parlay straight
- 42:05Speaker 1: ahead here on the hunting with rope. It's a great offer,
- 42:10Speaker 1: $ 5 up to $ 500 in no-sweat bets. You can go
- 42:13Speaker 1: to hardrock.bet.com to download the app. hardrock.bet.com This is Hutton
- 42:20Speaker 1: and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. Chad, it is
- 42:24Speaker 1: time to go for the bundle where we have been
- 42:28Speaker 1: very close, but no cigar. We're getting it this week.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And one of the games I love is Ole Miss
- 42:35Speaker 1: taking on Auburn, covering this number of 11. I'm taking
- 42:40Speaker 1: Ole Miss at home. The explosiveness on offense, the ability
- 42:44Speaker 1: to score in the passing game, the ability to score
- 42:47Speaker 1: in the red zone. Auburn doesn't do that. And I
- 42:50Speaker 1: think there's just too much firepower that Ole Miss doesn't
- 42:53Speaker 1: cover this number against Auburn this Saturday.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that one.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Ole Miss, we've seen the seesaw effect, too, now coming
- 43:01Speaker 2: off a tough loss at Texas. Auburn also coming off
- 43:05Speaker 2: a tough loss at home to LSU. But Ole Miss
- 43:08Speaker 2: getting them at home, I like it, Hutton. I don't
- 43:12Speaker 2: like the fact I'm waffling on this game. I originally
- 43:15Speaker 2: like my Tulane green wave. I told you I was
- 43:18Speaker 2: going to go with a Friday night college football game
- 43:21Speaker 2: on the road at Charlotte. I saw Charlotte one and six.
- 43:24Speaker 2: I saw all these different factors. Then I started to
- 43:26Speaker 2: look more into it. Tulane just lost to UT San
- 43:29Speaker 2: Antonio 42 to nine. Charlotte has played a little bit
- 43:34Speaker 2: better as of late and they're coming off a buy
- 43:37Speaker 2: and they're at home. I've had a lot of success
- 43:40Speaker 2: with home teams on Friday night. So give me Charlotte
- 43:44Speaker 2: at home against Tulane to cover the Plus 11.5 at
- 43:49Speaker 2: Hard Rock Bet.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Final answer.
- 43:52Speaker 1: And you've had a lot of success, period, on Friday night,
- 43:55Speaker 1: not just against teams like this. So, yeah.
- 43:59Speaker 2: And I've had success taking the home team, except for
- 44:01Speaker 2: last week when Virginia let me down. But I'm typically
- 44:03Speaker 2: taking home teams on Friday night in all these bets.
- 44:06Speaker 2: So I am going to go back to the home
- 44:08Speaker 2: team philosophy and go with Charlotte, who is coming off
- 44:11Speaker 2: a bye in this game.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I love the Friday night picks with Withrow for going
- 44:15Speaker 1: for the bundle. JT, where are we going? Where are
- 44:17Speaker 1: we winning this week?
- 44:18Speaker 4: Guys, this started at seven and a half. And Chad,
- 44:22Speaker 4: you asked me to do some homework. I would say
- 44:25Speaker 4: that I spent at least 15 minutes working on this.
- 44:29Speaker 4: I turned this pick in yesterday morning at around 10
- 44:32Speaker 4: and 1030. And I see that our fearless leader, Clay Travis,
- 44:38Speaker 4: posted his locks at sportandstate.com. And he says Penn State
- 44:42Speaker 4: shouldn't be favored by over a touchdown against anyone in
- 44:46Speaker 4: the Big Ten right now. They're called Purdue, not Purdue.
- 44:49Speaker 4: The Boilermakers cover in an ugly game in Happy Valley.
- 44:53Speaker 4: So fingers crossed, guys. I have let you down and
- 44:56Speaker 4: let you down and let you down.
- 44:57Speaker 3: But I hope that that's not the case this weekend.
- 45:00Speaker 2: JT, something about seeing Purdue flash up on our group
- 45:03Speaker 2: text that you were picking them, and I thought, JT
- 45:05Speaker 2: has done his research this week. He's going with the
- 45:08Speaker 2: Purdue Boilermakers, and we are about to win this bad boy.
- 45:12Speaker 2: All three together at once. JT has picked it up.
- 45:15Speaker 2: I love this pick. I love the research put into it.
- 45:19Speaker 3: I agree.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Penn State, not good. Purdue also not good. But Purdue
- 45:23Speaker 2: is going to keep this thing close. I love it, JT.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Love it.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Not good versus not good means they cover.
- 45:29Speaker 3: And Tulane-Charlotte, two teams, not good.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Look at this. This is great. You don't use good,
- 45:36Speaker 1: you use great to describe Withrow on Friday nights.
- 45:39Speaker 3: It's a big week.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Because my lock tomorrow is going to be something in
- 45:42Speaker 2: that Baylor-UCF Friday night game. I'm going to go back
- 45:46Speaker 2: to Friday. I don't know what I'm doing yet. I
- 45:48Speaker 2: waffled on Tulane and Charlotte, went back and forth who
- 45:51Speaker 2: I was taking, ended up on Charlotte. So Hutton, I
- 45:55Speaker 2: just hope that we come back and I'm not 15-4
- 45:58Speaker 2: on Monday.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Let's at least get the split.
- 46:00Speaker 2: If I can get to 2-0, remember my goal was
- 46:02Speaker 2: to get over 20 before accumulating five losses on Friday night.
- 46:07Speaker 1: You can do this.
- 46:08Speaker 2: If I can do that, I've set some sort of
- 46:09Speaker 2: a record, and I feel like I should be a
- 46:11Speaker 2: guest on Bet the Board if I'm able to accomplish this.
- 46:14Speaker 1: 88% win rate, I believe is what that said. I
- 46:18Speaker 1: know what the percentage is for... Orlovsky wouldn't, yeah. But
- 46:23Speaker 1: we do. That is... I mean, you're making money, what, 52%?
- 46:27Speaker 1: If you get hit 52%, if you're one of the
- 46:31Speaker 1: bookies out in Vegas, this is huge. This is outstanding.
- 46:35Speaker 1: This is the lock. I love that you changed your
- 46:38Speaker 1: mind and you went with the home team just based
- 46:40Speaker 1: on the fact that you did the research and you
- 46:43Speaker 1: knew and you have the record that you do on
- 46:44Speaker 1: Friday following it.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I need to somehow.
- 46:48Speaker 2: make sure Saturday and Sunday start to at least creep
- 46:51Speaker 2: up a little bit closer to my Friday night success.
- 46:53Speaker 2: But Hey, right now I'll take it. I had a
- 46:55Speaker 2: very good Saturday also. Um, I bet South Carolina as
- 46:59Speaker 2: I picked them last week and I've hedged my happiness
- 47:02Speaker 2: quite a bit and bet big and hard rock bet
- 47:04Speaker 2: on South Carolina. And they covered on that last field
- 47:06Speaker 2: goal by half a point at minus two and a half.
- 47:09Speaker 2: So it was a big Saturday for me last week.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Let's roll. Let's be winners again. When you said Auburn,
- 47:14Speaker 1: Georgia was a one-off. I'm thinking bingo. This is where
- 47:17Speaker 1: I'm going. With Ole Miss.
- 47:19Speaker 3: I really like Ole Miss.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I think we're going to look back and say, how
- 47:23Speaker 2: on earth did Auburn go into Georgia and win? That's
- 47:25Speaker 2: going to be maybe the craziest outcome of the year
- 47:28Speaker 2: in the SEC.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Roll with us. Going for the bundle. Hard Rock Bet.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet.com is where you go and take advantage of the
- 47:35Speaker 1: great promo as well. Fun show. We're back at it tomorrow.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Hope you'll join us. The next round happening right now.
- 47:43Speaker 1: It's Hutton and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet on
- 47:45Speaker 1: Sport and State Network.
