• 2:41
Speaker 6: Good morning dave thanks for having me thank.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: You uh for being here there is so much oh
• 2:45
Speaker 2: my gosh going on this week and i held on
• 2:48
Speaker 2: to my Handy dandy little flyer that you gave me
• 2:50
Speaker 2: the last time that you were here. What's one thing
• 2:52
Speaker 2: about me you'll learn, Mr. Harold, is I am a
• 2:56
Speaker 2: keeper of things. And very, I mean, you know, not
• 3:00
Speaker 2: very organized in real life, but like radio life, I'm
• 3:03
Speaker 2: extremely organized. Everything's always like in the same spot and
• 3:07
Speaker 2: things like that. So, but, you know, rest of my life,
• 3:09
Speaker 2: not so much. But anyway, so it's best to fall.
• 3:13
Speaker 2: The time has arrived.
• 3:15
Speaker 6: Yeah, no kidding. This week, we kick off, well, starting tomorrow,
• 3:19
Speaker 6: we have Festive Fall Eve, and then we kick off
• 3:21
Speaker 6: five days of art, dance, music, theater, and more with
• 3:25
Speaker 6: a jam-packed schedule that's going to take us all the
• 3:28
Speaker 6: way through the end of the weekend.
• 3:30
Speaker 2: I mean, so I was looking, tomorrow, we'll just kind
• 3:34
Speaker 2: of run through the schedule of events here. We're not
• 3:36
Speaker 2: going to be able to cover it all in 10 minutes.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: That's why it has the all slash fall name on it.
• 3:41
  Speaker 1: Exactly.
• 3:41
Speaker 2: We'll cover as much as we can. We'll make sure
• 3:43
Speaker 2: people know to go to the social media and the
• 3:44
Speaker 2: website if they want the a complete schedule. One of
• 3:46
Speaker 2: the things that kind of caught my attention is this
• 3:48
Speaker 2: drum circle that's going to be going on. Talk about that.
• 3:51
Speaker 6: That is something that we do before every FestiFall and
• 3:55
Speaker 6: now FestiVall. Chris Higgins organizes that with his folks over there.
• 4:02
Speaker 6: This one is going to be at the Carter Giltman
• 4:05
Speaker 6: Community Garden, which is at First Presbyterian Church here in downtown.
• 4:08
Speaker 6: That's just a good time. I went to my very
• 4:11
Speaker 6: first one within a month of taking this job last year,
• 4:15
Speaker 6: and it's Whether you have any experience or not, it's
• 4:17
Speaker 6: such a welcoming group. You don't even need a drum.
• 4:21
Speaker 6: They'll have some that they bring for you. And everybody
• 4:25
Speaker 6: just sits in a circle and jams for a couple hours.
• 4:29
Speaker 6: Right up your alley, too. Yeah, it's a really good time.
• 4:33
Speaker 6: And they'll help you out. They'll teach you how to
• 4:36
Speaker 6: play certain different percussion instruments that don't just involve banging
• 4:40
Speaker 6: your hands on them. Such a welcoming group and such
• 4:43
Speaker 6: a great way to get started on uh, this week of,
• 4:47
Speaker 6: of art, uh, by participating in it yourself.
• 4:50
Speaker 2: Now, uh, on the 29th, uh, which is Tuesday, uh,
• 4:55
  Speaker 2: is that.
• 4:55
Speaker 6: No, yeah, we're calling that festival. The drum circle's kind
• 4:58
  Speaker 6: of initiating.
• 5:00
Speaker 2: So last week I had a chance to interview, uh,
• 5:02
Speaker 2: and Magnuson on the show, uh, the best name ever
• 5:05
Speaker 2: and Magnuson's bong water cabaret. It's happening at the empty glass. Now,
• 5:10
Speaker 2: Michael Lipton was on with her last week, and they
• 5:12
Speaker 2: said they can't use that word when they go on television,
• 5:15
  Speaker 2: bong water.
• 5:16
Speaker 6: Yeah, we've been expressly told not to.
• 5:19
Speaker 2: But I can use it, right?
• 5:20
Speaker 6: I mean, I'm assuming as long as nobody writes a
• 5:22
Speaker 6: letter to the FCC, right? You can say whatever you want.
• 5:27
Speaker 2: You know I'm going to the Hall of Fame, right?
• 5:28
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 5:29
Speaker 2: So they can't take that away from me. All right,
• 5:32
Speaker 2: so that's going to be at the Empty Glass. Let's
• 5:33
Speaker 2: move along. Congratulations, by the way.
• 5:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, and that Anne Magnuson show is sold out.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: Oh, okay. I was going to say there were two shows.
• 5:40
Speaker 6: Are they both sold out? They're both sold out. But
• 5:42
Speaker 6: in addition to that, if you didn't snag tickets, we're
• 5:44
Speaker 6: also doing a little art show, and you can find
• 5:45
Speaker 6: out details about this at festivefall.com called The Ultraviolet. Kind
• 5:50
Speaker 6: of in that same trippy vibe of Anne's show, we're
• 5:52
Speaker 6: doing a blacklight art show at the Ghost Gallery over
• 5:55
Speaker 6: on the East End. with 11 local artists. Um, and
• 5:58
Speaker 6: then you can buy some exclusive, uh, and Magnuson merch
• 6:02
Speaker 6: over there at the same time.
• 6:03
Speaker 2: And then you got three things going on. I had
• 6:05
Speaker 2: a chance to do that a couple of years ago.
• 6:06
Speaker 2: That was a blast.
• 6:07
Speaker 6: That show is always so great.
• 6:08
  Speaker 2: I did that.
• 6:09
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 6:09
Speaker 6: You, you featured local, uh, notable local folks like yourself
• 6:13
Speaker 6: and they get to interpret that prompt. My first, my favorite,
• 6:16
Speaker 6: my future in, in whatever way they want. And, uh,
• 6:21
Speaker 6: It's amazing what folks come up with. It's always a
• 6:23
Speaker 6: good time. That's at 7 p.m. at the Capital Market tomorrow.
• 6:27
Speaker 2: Or Wednesday, I'm sorry. All right, let's move to Thursday.
• 6:29
  Speaker 2: The Popcorn Social.
• 6:31
Speaker 6: Yeah, with our friends at the West Virginia International Film Festival.
• 6:34
Speaker 6: It's a free screening of Practical Magic at Goldenrod Kitchen
• 6:37
Speaker 6: over there on the west side. And we're going to
• 6:39
Speaker 6: have some vendors. We're going to have some live music. And,
• 6:41
Speaker 6: of course, we're going to watch the movie.
• 6:44
Speaker 2: And Friday, you've got the Downtown Charleston Art and Architecture
• 6:48
  Speaker 2: Walking Tour.
• 6:49
Speaker 6: Yeah, Naomi Bay is doing two walking tours as part
• 6:52
Speaker 6: of our schedule. She's doing one on Friday morning and
• 6:54
Speaker 6: one on Saturday morning. Friday is the downtown. Saturday is
• 6:59
Speaker 6: over in Elk City. And having grown up in this area,
• 7:03
Speaker 6: it's always amazing once somebody points something out to you,
• 7:06
Speaker 6: you've walked past for 20 years and never noticed. And
• 7:10
Speaker 6: you'll just never see it the same way again. There's
• 7:13
Speaker 6: so much hidden art and architecture in our town. It
• 7:16
Speaker 6: really opens your eyes. And then also Friday evening, we
• 7:19
Speaker 6: have an evening with the poets, which is with Mark Harshman,
• 7:25
Speaker 6: West Virginia's Poet Laureate and featured guest poet Jane Hicks.
• 7:28
Speaker 6: We also have Stories Between Worlds, which is a production
• 7:34
Speaker 6: we're doing with a Ugandan musician named Chinobay. He's going
• 7:37
Speaker 6: to be over at Poomsie's, which is a listening room
• 7:39
Speaker 6: over there on the west side. Just one of the
• 7:42
Speaker 6: most incredible musicians I've ever heard. That's a free show
• 7:45
Speaker 6: at 7 p.m. at Poomsie's. And then at Folklore Music
• 7:48
Speaker 6: Exchange down here on Summer Street, we have Nana Kay
• 7:54
Speaker 6: at 7.30. She's Georgian-American. She's got this awesome blend of blues, rock,
• 7:59
Speaker 6: alt country. That's also great. amazing georgian american yeah george
• 8:03
Speaker 6: like not uh not the state i was gonna say
• 8:06
Speaker 6: because this former soviet bloc.
• 8:07
Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it is part of the united states just.
• 8:10
Speaker 6: So you know that but i've got some family in
• 8:12
Speaker 6: the united states version of georgia and it's a different
• 8:15
Speaker 6: world down there i was born in.
• 8:16
Speaker 2: Georgia okay you know all about it all right uh
• 8:19
Speaker 2: all right so let's uh move ahead to let's let's
• 8:21
Speaker 2: hit up saturday because that's when the things i mean
• 8:23
Speaker 2: when you got a oh yeah higher days worth of.
• 8:25
Speaker 6: Well we talked about the walking tour already we have
• 8:28
Speaker 6: morning yoga But the Harvest Art Fair over there at
• 8:31
Speaker 6: the Capital Market, just like our Capital Street Art Fair
• 8:34
Speaker 6: during the summer, Harvest Art Fair is the crown jewel
• 8:36
Speaker 6: of our schedule. We have 30 vendors who will be
• 8:40
Speaker 6: over there selling their stuff. Great place to take care
• 8:42
Speaker 6: of some early holiday shopping. We'll have Saturday and Sunday
• 8:47
Speaker 6: two full days of free live music over there on
• 8:51
Speaker 6: the stage with some great regional and local acts. We'll
• 8:56
Speaker 6: have a bike tour. At 1130 that day with Sam Nygaard,
• 9:00
Speaker 6: talking about public art, riding all around town. And then
• 9:03
Speaker 6: at 4 p.m., we'll have our dance buses. Brand new
• 9:06
Speaker 6: program with the West Virginia Dance Company, the state's only
• 9:09
Speaker 6: professional touring dance company. With our friends at KRT, where
• 9:14
Speaker 6: we do the art bus, where we wrap KRT buses
• 9:17
Speaker 6: in local artists' work. The idea is the dancers, the attendees,
• 9:21
Speaker 6: everybody files onto one of these dance buses, and then
• 9:23
Speaker 6: we go on a five-stop tour of notable public art
• 9:27
Speaker 6: in Charleston, which will be led by Jeff Pearson, head
• 9:29
Speaker 6: of Charleston's Office of Public Art. And at each stop,
• 9:33
Speaker 6: the dancers, everybody file off. The dancers will perform a
• 9:37
Speaker 6: piece inspired by that art, and then it's back on
• 9:39
Speaker 6: the bus and to the next stop until we reach
• 9:42
Speaker 6: our finale at City Center. which will coincide almost exactly
• 9:47
Speaker 6: with the beginning of City Center Dead, John Ingram's Grateful
• 9:52
Speaker 6: Dead tribute. You know, why didn't he call his band
• 9:55
  Speaker 6: Uncle John's Band?
• 9:56
  Speaker 2: I mean, trademark.
• 9:57
Speaker 6: It was right there.
• 9:58
  Speaker 2: Trademark.
• 9:59
  Speaker 7: Just.
• 10:00
  Speaker 5: Saying.
• 10:00
Speaker 6: And I would bet that there's probably a Grateful Dead
• 10:02
Speaker 6: tribute band somewhere already named Uncle John's Band.
• 10:06
Speaker 2: I'm sure there is. Until the attorneys get a hold
• 10:08
  Speaker 2: of it.
• 10:08
  Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
• 10:09
Speaker 2: But that's going to be a great show.
• 10:10
  Speaker 6: Oh, my gosh.
• 10:10
  Speaker 1: Always.
• 10:11
Speaker 6: I mean, he's got Jake Brownstein of the jam band
• 10:13
Speaker 6: Eggie and Jason Hahn of the jam band String Cheese Incident,
• 10:17
Speaker 6: as well as his regular bandmates, Brad Goodall. Brandon Bold's, J.P.
• 10:21
  Speaker 8: Novak.
• 10:22
  Speaker 6: That's always a great time. Whether you're like a Die
• 10:24
Speaker 6: Hard Dead fan or not, it's just a good evening
• 10:27
Speaker 6: over there at City Center.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: With live music. That's the thing about it.
• 10:31
Speaker 6: People get hyped for it.
• 10:32
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 10:33
Speaker 6: That's the best way to experience, I think, the music
• 10:35
Speaker 6: of the Grateful Dead anyway is live in an open
• 10:39
  Speaker 6: venue like that.
• 10:40
  Speaker 8: All right.
• 10:40
Speaker 2: Let's fast forward to Sunday.
• 10:42
Speaker 6: Harvest Art Fair coming back. We have our carriage trail
• 10:44
Speaker 6: leaf walk over there on the carriage trail across from
• 10:47
Speaker 6: downtown with something new across every turn. We have some
• 10:51
Speaker 6: great surprises over there. That's from 1 to 4 over
• 10:54
Speaker 6: there on the carriage trail. You can either park downtown.
• 10:56
Speaker 6: I would recommend parking downtown and walking across the bridge
• 10:59
Speaker 6: or the Farmer Klein and Campbell lot. They let us
• 11:02
Speaker 6: have people park up there too. So either park at
• 11:05
Speaker 6: the top and walk down or park downtown and walk over.
• 11:08
Speaker 6: Adventures in Motion, the West Virginia Dance Company, is back.
• 11:11
Speaker 6: For that, at 1 p.m. at Capitol High School, that's
• 11:14
Speaker 6: going to be a performance that kind of examines West
• 11:17
Speaker 6: Virginia's history through the lens of modern dance. It'll be
• 11:20
Speaker 6: an interesting time. And then we have this program at
• 11:23
Speaker 6: 3 p.m. at Cavendish Hall in Kanawha City, which is
• 11:27
Speaker 6: a venue that not a lot of people have heard about.
• 11:29
Speaker 6: But John Cavendish bought this house like 30 or 40
• 11:32
Speaker 6: years ago. It was a former Methodist church. that had
• 11:36
Speaker 6: since gone defunct, and he preserved the sanctuary and turned
• 11:40
Speaker 6: it into– it's his living room most of the time.
• 11:43
Speaker 6: But throughout the year, he and his wife host concerts
• 11:47
Speaker 6: in their living room. They push the furniture back and
• 11:50
Speaker 6: set out chairs. They have two giant grand pianos in there,
• 11:52
Speaker 6: and it's just one of the most beautiful places. And
• 11:55
Speaker 6: it's this hidden gem that hardly anybody knows about, it seems.
• 11:59
  Speaker 6: That's at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October the 4th. Cavendish
• 12:02
Speaker 6: Hall is having this afternoon of art song is what
• 12:05
Speaker 6: we're calling it with a pianist and a singer over there.
• 12:08
Speaker 6: And that's a free show. Donations encouraged to support the performers.
• 12:12
Speaker 6: But that's a chance to see a music venue that,
• 12:18
Speaker 6: like I said, is one of the hidden gems of
• 12:19
Speaker 6: our city. And then wrapping it all up with Mountain Stage.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, Mountain Stage is going to be a great event
• 12:25
Speaker 2: as it always is. All right, so. We've thrown a
• 12:28
Speaker 2: lot of things about people. We pretty much run down
• 12:30
Speaker 2: the entire schedule. We'll get the website and the social media.
• 12:33
Speaker 2: But if somebody runs up to you and just says,
• 12:36
Speaker 2: what exactly is FestiFall? Let's do something to make the
• 12:39
Speaker 2: news people happy now. Give them a nice little sound
• 12:42
  Speaker 2: bite there.
• 12:43
Speaker 6: FestiFall is an opportunity for us to highlight the local
• 12:47
Speaker 6: talent in Charleston, as well as bring in talent from
• 12:50
Speaker 6: outside town. here so our folks can enjoy it. And
• 12:55
Speaker 6: the most important thing to us is that this is
• 12:57
Speaker 6: family friendly and it's accessible to everybody. Even our ticketed
• 13:01
Speaker 6: events are extremely cost effective. Most of the things we
• 13:05
Speaker 6: do are free. So Festivall, I always say we take
• 13:09
Speaker 6: the all part very seriously. We want to represent all
• 13:12
Speaker 6: forms of art and we want it to be accessible
• 13:15
Speaker 6: to all people. And that's what we try to do
• 13:17
Speaker 6: twice a year. Festivall, we do this 10 day schedule
• 13:21
Speaker 6: every As we begin our autumn season here. And then
• 13:25
Speaker 6: we do it again in summer as a kickoff to summer.
• 13:27
Speaker 6: And been doing that for almost a quarter of a century.
• 13:31
  Speaker 9: All right.
• 13:31
Speaker 2: And where can people see the entire schedule and run
• 13:33
  Speaker 2: down everything?
• 13:34
Speaker 6: Festivefall.com has the entire schedule. You can also check us
• 13:39
Speaker 6: out on Facebook and Instagram, and we'll have all the
• 13:41
Speaker 6: event information posted there as well.
• 13:43
  Speaker 8: All right.
• 13:44
Speaker 2: We'll be talking about it throughout the week. Zach Harreld,
• 13:46
Speaker 2: always a pleasure to have you on the show. And again,
• 13:48
Speaker 2: everything is going on all this week. Can't say there's
• 13:51
Speaker 2: nothing to do, man. And again, as Zach said, the
• 13:53

Speaker 2: going on at Ollie's in Dunbar. Saturday, October the 10th

Speaker 2: from 11 to 4, presented by the Spark of Love Foundation. C.J.
• 17:54
Speaker 2: Scalf is the director of Spark of Love, and he

Speaker 2: friend of the program, Josh Higginbotham. Gentlemen, good morning and
• 18:02
Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
• 18:04
Speaker 10: Good morning. Thanks for having me. Appreciate it, Dave.
• 18:06
Speaker 2: So, first of all, tell us what is the Spark
• 18:08
Speaker 2: of Love Foundation, exactly what is it?
• 18:10
Speaker 10: Uh, we are a charity for kids.
• 18:12
Speaker 4: Um, we make sure we, well, we try our best
• 18:14
Speaker 4: to make sure there's no kid that goes without a
• 18:17
Speaker 4: Christmas present or a holiday meal during the holidays. Um,
• 18:21
Speaker 4: last year we provided Christmas toys to around 2,500 kids.
• 18:26
Speaker 2: Now, where did this come from? Where'd the whole idea
• 18:28
  Speaker 2: come from?
• 18:29
Speaker 4: That's the crazy part about all of it.
• 18:31
Speaker 10: Um, this will be our six years.
• 18:34
Speaker 4: So six years ago, my wife and her grandma, which
• 18:38
Speaker 4: she passed away at the about the third year into this,
• 18:41
Speaker 4: but they was at Hobby Lobby out here at South Ridge.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: And her grandma looked at Crystal and said, why don't
• 18:46
Speaker 4: you and CJ start a toy drive to where it's
• 18:48
Speaker 4: raised local stays local, you know, gets just make sure.
• 18:53
Speaker 4: I mean, if you met her grandma, she was the
• 18:55
Speaker 4: type of grandma that hugged everybody.
• 18:57
  Speaker 8: Oh yeah.
• 18:58
Speaker 2: And, uh, stereotypical grandma. And I mean, in the best
• 19:00
  Speaker 2: possible way.
• 19:01
  Speaker 8: Yes.
• 19:01
Speaker 2: Probably a good cook too. Oh yeah.
• 19:04
Speaker 10: I missed the food.
• 19:05
Speaker 2: They teach you that in mamaw school.
• 19:06
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 19:07
Speaker 10: But, uh, so we done it.
• 19:09
Speaker 4: Um, The first year, when Crystal brought it to me,
• 19:12
Speaker 4: I thought she meant start it right away. Well, she's
• 19:16
Speaker 4: actually talking about planning. Because it's like two weeks before Thanksgiving,
• 19:20
Speaker 4: something like that. And so I went at the fire
• 19:23
Speaker 4: department that I was on at the time. I went
• 19:25
Speaker 4: down there and pitched the idea. They were like, let's
• 19:27
Speaker 4: do it. So we had two weeks to get it
• 19:31
Speaker 4: all going. We still helped close to 300 kids. And
• 19:34
Speaker 4: ever since then, it's doubled every year. Then our third year,
• 19:38
Speaker 4: my dad passed away the second year into it, right before, um,
• 19:43
Speaker 4: right before he's giving toys out so yeah which it
• 19:47
Speaker 4: helped me get through you know losing my dad and
• 19:50
Speaker 4: stuff then the third year her grandma passed away and
• 19:53
Speaker 4: that's when which my me and my wife make this
• 19:55
Speaker 4: joke about the angel in the outfield movie like where
• 19:58
Speaker 4: they flap their arms.
• 19:59
Speaker 10: And from september december that year we.
• 20:02
Speaker 4: Raised thirty thousand dollars for this thing so at that
• 20:04
Speaker 4: time uh a buddy of mine which officer messer which
• 20:08
Speaker 4: he's another good partner of ours and does, he does
• 20:11
Speaker 4: tremendous stuff for kids too. He's like, y'all need to
• 20:13
Speaker 4: get your 501c3 so you can span this out.
• 20:16
  Speaker 10: So we did.
• 20:16
Speaker 9: And ever since then, it's just. 2,500 kids last year. Josh,
• 20:22
Speaker 9: I want to, this is Josh Hagebotham. What's your involvement
• 20:24
Speaker 9: in this? Yeah. Well, so I, uh, I was an
• 20:27
Speaker 9: early helper, uh, five or six years ago.
• 20:29
Speaker 2: Uh, I knew him through the fire department.
• 20:33
Speaker 9: And then this year he approached me a couple months
• 20:35
Speaker 9: ago about this car show idea on October 10th in Dunbar.
• 20:39
Speaker 9: And so I decided, you know, my company, Higginbotham Consulting,
• 20:43
Speaker 9: is going to be the title sponsor. It'll be their
• 20:45
Speaker 9: first ever car show that they've ever had. They just
• 20:48
Speaker 9: had their golf tournament last Saturday, raised a ton of money,
• 20:51
Speaker 9: got some donations. And, of course, they're going to have
• 20:55
Speaker 9: their toy drives throughout the fall and on into Christmas.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: But this is their first.
• 21:01
Speaker 10: Event, and they're really, really excited.
• 21:03
Speaker 2: Now, if people come out to the— and we'll give you
• 21:05
Speaker 2: all the details on the car show. If people come
• 21:07
Speaker 2: out and they want to make monetary donations, I'm presuming
• 21:10
Speaker 2: you could take them there. I mean, do you want
• 21:12
Speaker 2: people to bring toys when they come out? Whichever one
• 21:15
Speaker 2: they— But new unwrapped toys. Yeah, this is really kicking
• 21:18
Speaker 2: off the toy thing. This is like the kickoff for it.
• 21:22
  Speaker 4: Then October 23rd, 24th, and 25th will be— That's, I guess,
• 21:28
Speaker 4: technically the official start of the toy drive at Cross
• 21:30
  Speaker 4: Lanes Walmart.
• 21:31
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 21:31
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 21:32
Speaker 10: But this is like, you know, getting the Christmas theme
• 21:35
  Speaker 10: into it.
• 21:35
Speaker 2: What made you decide to want to do a car show?
• 21:37
Speaker 2: Because you got a car show, you got corn holes, 50-50.
• 21:40
Speaker 2: We'll run down the schedule, as I said. But what
• 21:42
Speaker 2: made you decide to want to do the car show
• 21:44
  Speaker 2: aspect of it?
• 21:44
Speaker 4: Well, all these manager Bob down there in Dunbar, he's
• 21:48
Speaker 4: a big car guy and he's a big helper with
• 21:50
Speaker 4: the toy side of it. And he's like, have y'all
• 21:53
Speaker 4: ever thought about doing one? And I was like, we
• 21:55
Speaker 4: thought about it, but. we never really, you know, put
• 21:59
Speaker 4: it together. So we started playing it. Like Josh said,
• 22:02
Speaker 4: when we thank you so much for being our title sponsor.
• 22:06
Speaker 10: Um, that's another thing.
• 22:07
Speaker 4: We couldn't do none of this stuff without donors like
• 22:09
Speaker 4: Josh and sponsors and all that.
• 22:11
Speaker 2: Do you need more sponsors at this point, guys? I mean,
• 22:15
  Speaker 2: we're always looking.
• 22:16
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 22:17
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 22:18
Speaker 10: We're always looking for sponsors.
• 22:19
  Speaker 8: Um, yeah.
• 22:20
Speaker 4: Like the golf tournament just off sponsors alone. We raised
• 22:23
Speaker 4: almost $ 11, 000 in sponsors. And that was our second year
• 22:27
Speaker 4: for the golf tournament. I'm not a golfer, which I'm
• 22:30
Speaker 4: trying to learn. I'm trying to learn.
• 22:32
Speaker 7: Are you a golfer?
• 22:33
Speaker 9: Uh, no, no, I I'm bad at it. I, uh,
• 22:36
Speaker 9: I like to ride in the cart.
• 22:37
Speaker 2: Does that, does that count for anything?
• 22:39
Speaker 9: Uh, I can, I can bring water to people and
• 22:41
Speaker 9: watch them. I get out of breath just watching. That's
• 22:44
Speaker 9: pretty much what I do. Uh, but well, that's amazing.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: And if people want to get this out there, your
• 22:49
Speaker 2: people would like to be a sponsor. Uh, you guys,
• 22:52
Speaker 2: Higginbotham Consulting, you're going to be the title sponsor, but
• 22:54
Speaker 2: if there's other sponsorship, you have them tiered or is it,
• 22:56
Speaker 2: I mean, how's the sponsorship work?
• 22:58
Speaker 4: Just on this one, we could just kind of, you know,
• 23:02
Speaker 4: we'd So far, Josh is our, he's the big only sponsor.
• 23:06
Speaker 4: We've had some smaller tiers. I didn't really go into
• 23:09
Speaker 4: the tiers on this because where it.
• 23:10
  Speaker 10: Was straight off.
• 23:11
Speaker 2: Right, I got you.
• 23:12
Speaker 10: Straight off the golf turn.
• 23:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, I get you.
• 23:14
Speaker 10: But, I mean, just, I mean, if they want to
• 23:16
Speaker 10: donate toys, well, toys is sponsored. I mean, it's.
• 23:20
Speaker 9: Monetary or, of course, in-kind toy donations. And you guys
• 23:24
Speaker 9: do even gift cards that you all can go buy
• 23:27
  Speaker 9: the toys.
• 23:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an easy way for people.
• 23:30
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: Um people to come out there all right so um
• 23:33
Speaker 2: and i've been to the ollies and dunbar numerous times
• 23:35
Speaker 2: i'm trying to picture do you think i mean we
• 23:37
Speaker 2: could fill up that entire parking lot yeah.
• 23:39
Speaker 4: That's what that's reason that's another reason bob the manager
• 23:41
Speaker 4: down there mentioned doing it there because it's such a
• 23:43
Speaker 4: big flat lot there's plenty of room like i would
• 23:48
Speaker 4: be really thrilled if the whole lot's just filled up
• 23:50
Speaker 4: with cars for these kids.
• 23:51
Speaker 9: And right now yes of course sponsorships but We need
• 23:54
Speaker 9: people to sign up and actually be there with their
• 23:57
Speaker 9: antique vehicles. This is kind of a new group of
• 24:00
Speaker 9: people that the Spark of Love Foundation is reaching out to.
• 24:03
Speaker 9: Of course, a lot of golfers, first responders, fire departments,
• 24:07
Speaker 9: they've been very involved in that for years. Uh, but, uh,
• 24:10
Speaker 9: this is a community that's very tight knit. Uh, and, uh,
• 24:14
Speaker 9: I know for a fact based on other car shows
• 24:16
Speaker 9: here in the area, there's a lot of antique car.
• 24:18
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 24:18
Speaker 2: And it doesn't have to be antique or can it
• 24:20
Speaker 2: be any kind of car? No, we've got, if you're
• 24:22
Speaker 2: proud of one of the folks that puts on car
• 24:24
Speaker 2: shows says our, our deal is if you're proud of
• 24:27
Speaker 2: your vehicle, we want it to be there. That's pretty
• 24:29
Speaker 2: much doesn't matter whether how old it is or whatever.
• 24:32
Speaker 2: We want it to be there.
• 24:33
Speaker 10: That's how we look at it too.
• 24:34
Speaker 4: I mean, if anybody wants to come out and support
• 24:36
Speaker 4: these kids, it's going to be benefiting from this. We
• 24:38
Speaker 4: love to have it. Everybody's welcome. We've got some different classes,
• 24:41
Speaker 4: like the awards so far. We're still setting some of
• 24:44
Speaker 4: these up, but we're going to have best of show,
• 24:46
Speaker 4: best classic, best modern, best motorcycle. We're probably going to
• 24:51
Speaker 4: throw in a best Jeep.
• 24:52
Speaker 2: Okay. I did notice that you were talking about motorcycles
• 24:55
Speaker 2: and ATVs and stuff like that. That's a little different
• 24:57
Speaker 2: because not a lot of car shows have categories like that.
• 25:01
Speaker 4: Well, we even got one for, I was 50-50 on
• 25:05
Speaker 4: mentioning it, but I was trying to save the surprise.
• 25:09
Speaker 2: Well, you'll have to mention it if you want.
• 25:11
  Speaker 5: Oh, no.
• 25:12
  Speaker 10: It's a good one.
• 25:13
Speaker 4: Even the best power wheel for kids. So if the
• 25:15
Speaker 4: kids got a nice power wheel, load that thing up. Now,
• 25:20
Speaker 4: we're not charging the entry fee for kids. If they
• 25:23
Speaker 4: want to come show off their power wheel truck, but
• 25:25
Speaker 4: they're still going to.
• 25:26
Speaker 2: Now, explain what a power wheel is.
• 25:29
Speaker 4: Like the little trucks, like the little electric vehicles you
• 25:33
  Speaker 4: see kids.
• 25:33
  Speaker 6: Driving around in.
• 25:34
Speaker 10: I mean, it can be any of them. I mean.
• 25:37
  Speaker 10: They got F-150.
• 25:38
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 25:38
Speaker 4: I mean, they pretty much make them and everything now.
• 25:41
Speaker 4: But like I said, we want kids involved. So if
• 25:46
Speaker 4: they want to bring their power wheel out. And that's
• 25:51
Speaker 4: what it's all about. I mean, that's how we do
• 25:54
Speaker 4: the golf. Anything we do, we like the kids. We
• 25:56
Speaker 4: want it family friendly. Because, I mean, that's what. Our
• 25:58
Speaker 4: foundation is about us. There will be food trucks there
• 26:01
  Speaker 4: as well.
• 26:01
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 26:02
Speaker 2: All right. Now you really have my– cars get my
• 26:04
Speaker 2: attention anyway, but now you've really got my attention. Do
• 26:06
Speaker 2: we have any– do you have the names of the
• 26:08
  Speaker 2: food trucks yet?
• 26:09
Speaker 10: Yeah, we got Wild and Wonderful Rolls.
• 26:11
Speaker 2: Oh, they're fantastic. They actually won at least one year
• 26:14
Speaker 2: that I'm aware of, Rolls on the River, down here
• 26:17
Speaker 2: in Charleston. I believe they did.
• 26:18
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
• 26:19
Speaker 4: And then Old Goodness Mini Donuts and Juanita's Mexican Truck.
• 26:26
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 26:26
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 26:27
Speaker 2: Can you still accept more, I mean, as far as, like,
• 26:29
Speaker 2: food trucks go and things like that?
• 26:30
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I'd say we've got room for at
• 26:33
Speaker 10: least a couple more.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: Okay, so if you've got a food truck and you've
• 26:36
Speaker 2: got a– and the thing about car shows is you
• 26:38
Speaker 2: really have a captive audience, you know, because, I mean,
• 26:41
Speaker 2: it starts at, what did you say, 11?
• 26:42
  Speaker 12: 11.
• 26:42
  Speaker 13: 11, okay.
• 26:43
  Speaker 12: 11 to 4.
• 26:43
Speaker 2: 11 to 4, so– Those folks that are there are
• 26:48
Speaker 2: going to spend a couple hours probably walking around looking
• 26:50
Speaker 2: at the cars. But the people that are actually there
• 26:52
Speaker 2: displaying their cars, well, you've got a captive audience there.
• 26:56
Speaker 2: So if you've got a food truck out there, you
• 26:58
Speaker 2: should be able to make a little bank out there
• 27:00
Speaker 2: with those cars, especially if the weather is really nice.
• 27:03
Speaker 2: If we should have inclement weather, you don't have to
• 27:05
Speaker 2: give me a date because we don't put that bad
• 27:07
Speaker 2: vibe out there. But do you have plans if you
• 27:10
Speaker 2: would have to postpone it? You don't have to tell
• 27:12
Speaker 2: me the date, but would you?
• 27:13
Speaker 10: Yeah, if that happens, we'll definitely reschedule it.
• 27:16
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 27:17
  Speaker 10: All right.
• 27:17
Speaker 2: Well, hopefully we'll work with Brian Hughes and hopefully we'll
• 27:20
Speaker 2: get that taken care of. We have a Texas's day.
• 27:21
Speaker 2: They need to award best import car also. And this
• 27:24
Speaker 2: is a great program talking to the spark of love.
• 27:27
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 27:27
Speaker 10: Well, I'll add that to the list.
• 27:29
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 27:29
Speaker 4: Best import car. Like I said, all, all types are welcome.
• 27:32
Speaker 4: I mean, they've got to push them in there. It's
• 27:35
Speaker 4: if they're proud of it.
• 27:36
Speaker 2: As long as it looks good. That's all that matters.
• 27:38
Speaker 2: And look, I have been around the car show culture
• 27:40
Speaker 2: for a long time. I've talked, told the listener before
• 27:42
Speaker 2: my brother-in-law is big in the car shows. And I have, uh,
• 27:46
Speaker 2: I have been around a lot of car shows, driving
• 27:48
Speaker 2: his cars there, you know, and it's a culture. I mean,
• 27:52
Speaker 2: it really, really is. And especially here in the Kanawha
• 27:55
Speaker 2: Valley and in West Virginia, we love our cars here.
• 27:57
Speaker 2: It's a lot bigger deal here than what it is
• 27:59
Speaker 2: in some areas. Josh, you know. That's true.
• 28:01
  Speaker 10: Absolutely.
• 28:02
Speaker 9: And here's the beautiful thing about having this in the fall.
• 28:05
Speaker 9: The weather is much cooler.
• 28:07
Speaker 10: People are more willing to come out.
• 28:09
Speaker 9: And I love these car shows. I've gone to the
• 28:11
Speaker 9: ones in Nitro, out here on the boulevard. It's always
• 28:13
Speaker 9: during the summer and I'm fat and it's hot. And
• 28:16
Speaker 9: so I like the fact that this is in October,
• 28:18
Speaker 9: which is why I wanted to be the title sponsor.
• 28:20
Speaker 2: Where can people learn more? You got social media websites?
• 28:23
  Speaker 2: What you got?
• 28:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, our social media is just the Spark of Love Foundation.
• 28:26
  Speaker 4: And our website's just thesparkoflovefoundation.org.
• 28:30
Speaker 2: Where did you come up with the name, Spark of Love?
• 28:33
Speaker 10: My wife done that in memory of her grandma.
• 28:35
Speaker 2: Okay, okay. I didn't know that's where the actual name
• 28:37
  Speaker 2: came from, though.
• 28:38
Speaker 10: That and it's a combination of things, but she came
• 28:41
  Speaker 10: up with it.
• 28:41
  Speaker 5: I like it.
• 28:41
Speaker 10: It's mainly her grandma. Then our logo's got the angel
• 28:44
Speaker 10: wings around the heart.
• 28:45
Speaker 2: Good stuff. Again, give us the date, the times.
• 28:48
Speaker 9: It is October 10th in Dunbar at Ollie's. And it
• 28:53
  Speaker 9: is from 11 a.m.
• 28:54
  Speaker 10: To 4 p.m.
• 28:55
Speaker 2: All right. And we'll be talking about it as we
• 28:56
Speaker 2: get a little bit closer. Website, social media. Again, just
• 28:59
Speaker 2: want to make sure people get it.
• 29:00
Speaker 10: The Spark of Love Foundation is on Facebook.
• 29:03
  Speaker 4: And the website's just thesparkoflovefoundation.org.
• 29:06
  Speaker 8: All right.
• 29:07
  Speaker 5: Hold on.
• 29:07
Speaker 2: Got another question here for you guys. We have a
• 29:10
Speaker 2: DJ set up playing some music.
• 29:12
Speaker 10: No, but we would love to have one.
• 29:13
Speaker 2: All right. Well, I don't know if he's in right now,
• 29:15
Speaker 2: but right down this hallway, Matt Guitar Murphy. One of
• 29:18
Speaker 2: the best around. There's several here in Charleston. I would
• 29:22
Speaker 2: advise you, if you can, to get somebody to play
• 29:25
Speaker 2: some music because it really goes along with it. I mean,
• 29:28
Speaker 2: kind of to the whole vibe, especially if you get
• 29:30
Speaker 2: somebody like a man. I'm doing commercials for Matt Murphy now,
• 29:33
Speaker 2: but somebody that understands that you want to play a
• 29:35
Speaker 2: different variety of music. You want to hit the 50s, 60s, 70s,
• 29:38
Speaker 2: little bit of modern stuff. but just feel good dance music.
• 29:42
Speaker 2: Get yourself a DJ. You got to do that.
• 29:43
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 29:44
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 29:44
Speaker 10: We'll do. All right.
• 29:45
Speaker 2: All right, guys. Appreciate you both being here. Thanks a lot.
• 29:48
Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is brought to
• 29:50
Speaker 2: you in part by Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury
• 29:52
Speaker 2: law firm. It is 937. We are going to take
• 29:54
Speaker 2: a break. And when we come back, Danny Jones is here.
• 29:57
Speaker 2: A car guy himself, I don't know whether you know
• 30:00
Speaker 2: Danny or not, but Danny is actually out in California
• 30:02
Speaker 2: right now. And so somebody suggested he's got a classic.
• 30:07
Speaker 2: I got a couple of them, actually. Somebody suggested he
• 30:09
Speaker 2: bring it there. He hauled it to California, so I
• 30:11
Speaker 2: don't know if he wants to haul it back or not.
• 30:13
Speaker 2: But we'll try to get Danny out there as well.
• 30:15
Speaker 2: We'll talk to Danny when we come back on The
• 30:17
Speaker 2: Voice of Charleston WCHS.
• 30:19
Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.
• 30:22
Speaker 1: Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses have been creating jobs in
• 30:25
Speaker 1: West Virginia since 1997.
• 30:28
Speaker 7: I'm Jason Lowe, the lead pastor of Faith Community Church
• 30:30
Speaker 7: in Beckley. If you are looking for a construction company,
• 30:33
Speaker 7: I would strongly recommend Jarrett Construction. John and his team
• 30:35
Speaker 7: walked us through the process of building our church from
• 30:37
Speaker 7: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
• 30:41
Speaker 7: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
• 30:43
Speaker 7: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
• 30:45
Speaker 7: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
• 30:48
Speaker 7: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend
• 30:50
Speaker 7: them to other churches, businesses, or anyone needing a construction
• 30:54
Speaker 7: company they can trust.
• 30:55
  Speaker 2: License number WV030133.
• 30:58
Speaker 13: It's week six of the high school football season on
• 31:00
Speaker 13: Metro News TV, including Linsley Academy at University and Ravenswood
• 31:05
Speaker 13: in Roan County on Metro News TV, plus your favorite
• 31:08
Speaker 13: daily shows and state of minds. Download the app on
• 31:11
Speaker 13: your smart TV or streaming device and get more information
• 31:14

• 31:21

• 31:28
Speaker 3: Biggest Ram sale in years is underway right now at
• 31:31
Speaker 3: Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Hurricane. Now, if you've
• 31:34
Speaker 3: been eyeing a new truck, now is the time to
• 31:36
Speaker 3: make it happen. You're not going to find deals like
• 31:38
Speaker 3: this anywhere else in the Kanawha Valley. Right now at Walker,
• 31:42
Speaker 3: new Ram 1500 trucks are in stock with up to $ 21, 000
• 31:46
  Speaker 3: off MSRP.
• 31:47
  Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
• 31:48
  Speaker 3: New Ram 1500 trucks starting at just $ 45, 000.
• 31:52
Speaker 2: Look, deals like this are practically unheard of these days.
• 31:56
Speaker 3: And you already know that you're going to get the
• 31:57
Speaker 3: best deal possible in Walker because Gene and Ryan built
• 32:00
Speaker 3: their business the old-fashioned way by making friends. There are
• 32:04
Speaker 3: no gimmicks or games in Walker, just honest.
• 32:06
  Speaker 1: Fair deals.
• 32:07
Speaker 3: And when it comes to trucks, nobody does it better
• 32:09
Speaker 3: than Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. But hurry, because at
• 32:13
Speaker 3: these prices, these trucks aren't going to last long. So
• 32:16
Speaker 3: take that short 20-minute drive from Charleston or Huntington to
• 32:19
Speaker 3: Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Just off the Hurrican exit
• 32:21
Speaker 3: of I-64, Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Making friends one
• 32:25
Speaker 3: deal at a time.
• 32:38
Speaker 2: That's the sounds of the Amos Steel Band, the official
• 32:41
Speaker 2: band of the Dave Allen Show. If you've got an
• 32:43
Speaker 2: event coming up, those guys would be perfect to play.
• 32:46
  Speaker 2: Matter of fact, I don't know why I didn't think
• 32:48
Speaker 2: of this earlier. Perhaps maybe we get them to play
• 32:50
Speaker 2: at this car show that we were just talking about.
• 32:52
  Speaker 3: Huh?
• 32:52
  Speaker 10: How's that?
• 32:53
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 32:53
Speaker 2: So, Mr. Higginbotham, Mr. Scalf, maybe we'll get you hooked
• 32:56
Speaker 2: up with the Dunbar, with the folks at Spark of Love.
• 32:59
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 33:00
Speaker 2: So anyway, if you need to get an event coming up,
• 33:02
Speaker 2: you got a fall festival going on, you got a
• 33:04
Speaker 2: car show, you got something like that, and you need
• 33:06
Speaker 2: a band, look up the guys. The name is Steel Band.
• 33:07
Speaker 2: They are on Facebook. The Dave Allen Show on 580
• 33:10
Speaker 2: Live brought to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants, helping
• 33:13
Speaker 2: to identify environmental concerns like asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor
• 33:16
Speaker 2: quality issues in buildings all across the state, providing inspections, testing,
• 33:20
Speaker 2: and accredited lab services you can trust. Check out PinnacleCorp.net,
• 33:24
Speaker 2: helping you understand your environment because what you don't know
• 33:26
Speaker 2: can't hurt you. I understand we are efforting to Danny Jones,
• 33:29
Speaker 2: it is early out in California for Danny, but I
• 33:32
Speaker 2: know Danny, he's kind of like me, he's an early riser.
• 33:35
Speaker 2: And so it is 6.41, I guess, out there in
• 33:37
Speaker 2: California right now. And I hope everything is okay with Danny.
• 33:41
Speaker 2: Producer Ryan is working to try to get him on
• 33:44
Speaker 2: the show with us right now. It would be a
• 33:45
Speaker 2: shame if we didn't have our weekly visit with Danny,
• 33:47
Speaker 2: but he's living it up out there in the LBC,
• 33:50
Speaker 2: as Snoop Dogg once said. So we will try our
• 33:53
Speaker 2: best to get Danny on the show with us. Coming
• 33:55
Speaker 2: up later today, Metro News Midday. We've been telling you
• 33:59
Speaker 2: about this event that WCHS is sponsoring late this afternoon
• 34:03
Speaker 2: and early evening at the Capitol Market featuring Kathy Garver,
• 34:07
Speaker 2: who played Sissy on Family Affair.
• 34:10
  Speaker 10: Mrs.
• 34:10
Speaker 2: Gilligan at Dream of Denver. We had her on the
• 34:12
Speaker 2: show last week. And Julie McCullough from Growing Pain. She
• 34:15
Speaker 2: was also on this show, Sharknado. They're going to be
• 34:18
Speaker 2: at Capitol Market this afternoon. starting at 4 o'clock for
• 34:22
Speaker 2: a meet-and-greet type of event. And there's no charge or
• 34:25
Speaker 2: anything like that just to come out. Now, I will
• 34:27
Speaker 2: say that I think at least a couple of those
• 34:29
Speaker 2: folks are going to have books to sell. Dream of
• 34:30
Speaker 2: Denver has actually written a couple of books, including, as
• 34:33
Speaker 2: she mentioned to us last week, a children's book. So
• 34:36
Speaker 2: they are going to actually join us in studio today.
• 34:40
Speaker 2: So we're looking forward to talking to them. uh mrs
• 34:42
Speaker 2: gilligan dream of denver who is an absolute gem of
• 34:46
Speaker 2: a human being julie mccullough who i've never met she
• 34:49
Speaker 2: was on the show sharknado and growing pains and also
• 34:52
Speaker 2: uh sissy from family affair kathy garver i've never met
• 34:55
Speaker 2: her either they're all three going to be at capital
• 34:57
Speaker 2: market starting at four o'clock today and again it's free
• 35:01
Speaker 2: event if you want to come out you want to
• 35:02
Speaker 2: get pictures you want to get autographs burke allen big
• 35:05
Speaker 2: brother is going to be doing i think a little
• 35:07
  Speaker 2: q a i'm going to be there i think coop
• 35:09
Speaker 2: and some of the others from the stations are going
• 35:10
Speaker 2: to be there so Hopefully you can join us. All
• 35:12
Speaker 2: three of those ladies will join us in studio coming
• 35:15
Speaker 2: up on the show today. TJ Meadows is going to
• 35:18
Speaker 2: stop by with commentary. You know, I got to say,
• 35:21
Speaker 2: if you want to get a little preview, and I
• 35:23
Speaker 2: actually heard it this morning when I was driving in
• 35:25
Speaker 2: and read it at the website, wvmetronews.com. TJ has questions
• 35:30
Speaker 2: about the gift shop at the Culture Center. And his
• 35:34
Speaker 2: take on it is because, I mean, there's been all
• 35:36
Speaker 2: kinds of problems apparently with it. You know, the Not
• 35:39
Speaker 2: really a profit and loss report has been done or
• 35:43
Speaker 2: anything like that. So T.J., kind of his take on
• 35:47
Speaker 2: it is that the state should not be involved in
• 35:49
Speaker 2: things like that to begin with. Leave that up to
• 35:51
Speaker 2: private entrepreneurs. And not everybody agreed with him. I'm just
• 35:56
Speaker 2: going to say not everybody agreed with him if you
• 35:58
Speaker 2: go and read the comments on the website. So T.J.
• 36:02
Speaker 2: is going to join us to talk about that. Jeff
• 36:03
Speaker 2: Jenkins will have the news. The director of the West
• 36:05
Speaker 2: Virginia Film Office, Dave Lavender, is going to stop by
• 36:09
Speaker 2: the show today. Also, I told you on the local
• 36:11
Speaker 2: show a week or so ago about these Chick-fil-A Inspiration Awards. Now,
• 36:17
Speaker 2: the folks at Union Mission, which is based here in Charleston,
• 36:20
Speaker 2: have already picked up $ 35, 000 in grant money, and they
• 36:23
Speaker 2: have a chance for even more. They are the only
• 36:25
Speaker 2: nonprofit in the state of West Virginia that's in the
• 36:28
Speaker 2: running for this big-time award from Chick-fil-A. They are Chick-fil-A
• 36:34
Speaker 2: looking for people doing great things in their community. And again,
• 36:38
Speaker 2: Union Mission, based here in Charleston, is the only one,
• 36:41
Speaker 2: only representative, only person in the, only entity, I should say,
• 36:44
Speaker 2: in the running for this. And so, but it all
• 36:48
Speaker 2: depends on you voting for them by downloading the Chick-fil-A
• 36:51
Speaker 2: app and then going from there. So we're going to
• 36:53
Speaker 2: be joined by Tom Mintern, who owns a few of
• 36:56
Speaker 2: the Chick-fil-A's here in the area, and also Jason Quintrell
• 36:58
Speaker 2: from Union Mission. They will join us on the show
• 37:01
Speaker 2: today as well. All that and more coming up later today.
• 37:04
Speaker 2: on Metro News Midday, powered by Solango Law. Now, on
• 37:07
Speaker 2: this show tomorrow, this Saturday, is October West in Charleston,
• 37:12
Speaker 2: presented by Charleston Urban Works. Rick Caveter from Charleston Urban
• 37:16
Speaker 2: Works is going to be here. And again, this is
• 37:19
Speaker 2: a big event. It happens, I mean, a couple thousand
• 37:21
Speaker 2: people will be on the west end of Charleston this
• 37:23
Speaker 2: coming Saturday afternoon. All of our stations will be there.
• 37:26
Speaker 2: Rick Caveter from Charleston Urban Works is going to join
• 37:28
Speaker 2: us to talk about that. Also, if you were listening
• 37:33
Speaker 2: to our one of our sister stations, 96.1 KWS this morning,
• 37:37
Speaker 2: you may have heard a familiar voice. Billy Brown, who
• 37:41
Speaker 2: previously worked for us, is back. Billy is the new
• 37:45
Speaker 2: morning guy at 96.1 KWS, and so he is going
• 37:49
Speaker 2: to join us on the show tomorrow. And Billy worked
• 37:53
Speaker 2: for us a couple years ago. He's been away, I think,
• 37:55
Speaker 2: for three or four years, and now he is taking
• 37:58
  Speaker 2: over the morning show, starting 96.1 KWS, 5 a.m., 5
• 38:01
Speaker 2: to 10 a.m., Again, 96.1 KWS. So great to have
• 38:07
Speaker 2: Billy back with us. And I had a chance to,
• 38:09
Speaker 2: didn't want to bother him this morning because he was
• 38:11
Speaker 2: in there, you know, working a little bit this morning.
• 38:14
Speaker 2: But I did get a chance to talk to him upstairs.
• 38:16
Speaker 2: Great to have Billy back with us. Great talent. Great guy.
• 38:19
Speaker 2: Great in the community. And so he's going to join
• 38:21
Speaker 2: us coming up on the show tomorrow. Quick programming note.
• 38:24
Speaker 2: I am going to be away from this show and
• 38:26
Speaker 2: the midday show this coming Thursday and Friday. Taking a
• 38:29
Speaker 2: couple days off. I will be at an undisclosed beach
• 38:33
Speaker 2: with a drink in hand. So I will be off
• 38:35
Speaker 2: Thursday and Friday. I will be back with you, though,
• 38:38
Speaker 2: next Monday. I don't know whether you happen to catch
• 38:43
Speaker 2: this or not. There was an event. I don't mean
• 38:51
Speaker 2: to laugh about it, but if you go over to
• 38:54
Speaker 2: my my social media, if you go over to Dave
• 38:56
Speaker 2: Allen Radio and Facebook around 10 o'clock last night, a truck.
• 39:01
Speaker 2: ended up right in the middle of the Hurricane Reservoir. Now,
• 39:05
Speaker 2: this is the waterway that if you are driving on
• 39:08
Speaker 2: Taze Valley Road, it's next to Hurricane City Park, where
• 39:11
Speaker 2: they just had the fall festival on Saturday, and across
• 39:13
Speaker 2: from Mid-Valley Square. You always see folks out there fishing
• 39:16
Speaker 2: and whatever. Dude drove right in the middle of the reservoir. Now,
• 39:19
Speaker 2: to be fair, from what I've been told, is that
• 39:22
Speaker 2: it was some sort of a mechanical issue on his vehicle.
• 39:25
Speaker 2: That's what I've been told. And Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards
• 39:28
Speaker 2: actually posted the video online on his social media, and
• 39:31
Speaker 2: I shared it to mine. The gentleman, thankfully, was not injured.
• 39:33
  Speaker 2: So that's why I guess we're able to, I don't
• 39:35
Speaker 2: want to say laugh about it, but, you know, grin
• 39:38
  Speaker 2: about it.
• 39:38
  Speaker 6: How's that?
• 39:39
Speaker 2: But so if you need a video of a truck
• 39:42
Speaker 2: jumping into the reservoir in Hurricane, I've got it posted
• 39:45
Speaker 2: right now, on Dave Allen Radio, so go and check
• 39:47
Speaker 2: that out. I invite you to join me every Friday morning, 9-0-6,
• 39:50

Speaker 2: it all. They're located at 516 D Street in South Charleston.
• 40:10
Speaker 2: Let me knock out a couple texts. I don't know
• 40:11
Speaker 2: whether we're going to have Danny today or not. We
• 40:14
Speaker 2: are working to get Danny. Text, heard Billy on the
• 40:18
Speaker 2: air this morning with Crash. Welcome back, Billy Brown.
• 40:20
  Speaker 3: Indeed.
• 40:21
Speaker 2: Billy's a good dude, and he and I like to
• 40:23
Speaker 2: talk football. As big a Dallas Cowboy fan as I am,
• 40:26
Speaker 2: he's that big of a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. So we
• 40:28
Speaker 2: like to go back and forth a little bit. But, again,
• 40:30
Speaker 2: I'll have Billy on the show. And what Billy doesn't
• 40:32
Speaker 2: know is, as I said, I passed him in the
• 40:35
Speaker 2: hall this morning, and I said, hey, are you available
• 40:39
Speaker 2: 9-20 tomorrow morning to come in and talk to me
• 40:40
Speaker 2: a little bit? He goes, oh, yeah, yeah, sure, that'll
• 40:42
Speaker 2: be fine. He doesn't know that I'm going to be
• 40:44
Speaker 2: playing the infamous 10 questions game with him. So he
• 40:47
Speaker 2: doesn't know that. So don't tell him. Text, is there
• 40:53
Speaker 2: therapy for overly aggressive capitalists? I don't know. I guess
• 41:00
Speaker 2: maybe that's a reference to Mr. Meadows or myself.
• 41:03
  Speaker 12: I don't know.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: I don't know. It is 949. Tell you what we'll do.
• 41:07
Speaker 2: We'll take a break and we'll come back after this
• 41:09
Speaker 2: on The Voice of Charleston WCHS.

• 42:39
Speaker 2: of the Dave Allen Show. Check them out. It is 9.50
• 42:42
Speaker 2: on a Monday morning. Still efforting, Danny. I'm sure everything's
• 42:45
Speaker 2: okay with Danny. Ryan, we may have to put you
• 42:47
Speaker 2: in a vehicle and send you out to California to
• 42:50
Speaker 2: see Again, I hope everything's okay. It's not like Danny
• 42:54
Speaker 2: not to be on the show. I mean, normally... We'll
• 42:57
Speaker 2: text a couple times, and I told him last week,
• 43:00
Speaker 2: he said, I will be out in California, but call me.
• 43:02
Speaker 2: You know I'll be awake. Well, I know for a
• 43:04
Speaker 2: fact Danny will be awake. So hopefully everything is okay.
• 43:07
Speaker 2: So hopefully if we don't have him this week, we'll
• 43:09
Speaker 2: have him back on next week. So the rest of
• 43:11
Speaker 2: the show is yours. Guarantee Bank Hotline, 304-345-5858. Tony the Tailor,
• 43:14
Speaker 2: text 304-935-5008. We talked on midday about the House Democrats'
• 43:16
Speaker 2: kitchen table tour. They kicked this off last week in Fairmont. Now,
• 43:28
Speaker 2: the next one is going to be tonight in Charleston
• 43:30
Speaker 2: at City Center Slack Plaza, in case you want to
• 43:33
Speaker 2: check that out. And I got a text earlier this
• 43:35
Speaker 2: morning from Delegate and State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin
• 43:38
Speaker 2: reminding me of that. I said, I got you, Pushkin.
• 43:41
Speaker 2: I was going to mention it anyway. Starts at six o'clock. Now,
• 43:44
Speaker 2: he's referring to it as a rally. The other one,
• 43:47
Speaker 2: I think, was more of a, I mean, you call
• 43:48
Speaker 2: it whatever you want, but basically the House Democrats, and
• 43:52
Speaker 2: they did this, I think, a couple of times before,
• 43:53
Speaker 2: they go around the state and they meet with people
• 43:56
Speaker 2: of whether they're Republican, Democrat, whatever the case is, and
• 44:00
Speaker 2: just find out what's on people's mind. And it's interesting
• 44:02
Speaker 2: to me in talking to the people that took place
• 44:05
Speaker 2: or took part, I should say, in these kitchen table
• 44:07
Speaker 2: tours in the past when they did them, that there
• 44:10
Speaker 2: were some, I think, common denominators in all of them.
• 44:15
Speaker 2: But then there were some things that were totally different.
• 44:18
Speaker 2: And if you go to one, you know, in the
• 44:20
Speaker 2: Eastern Panhandle, what those folks may have said would have
• 44:23
Speaker 2: been something like, well, you know, how do we– our
• 44:27
Speaker 2: issue has to do with affordability. I'm just using that
• 44:29
Speaker 2: as an example. Maybe here in the Charleston area, it's
• 44:32
Speaker 2: about data centers. But that's what they're doing. They're just
• 44:35
Speaker 2: going out and they're just talking to people and Doesn't
• 44:37
Speaker 2: matter whether you're Republican, Democrat, whatever the case is, they're
• 44:40
Speaker 2: asking you to come out. So the weather's going to
• 44:41
Speaker 2: be great. You want to go meet with them. Six
• 44:43
Speaker 2: o'clock tonight at Slack Plaza. There, Pushkin, I got you
• 44:46
Speaker 2: taken care of. Guaranteed Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony B. Taylor,
• 44:51
Speaker 2: Tax 304-935-500. I don't know if you saw this or not.
• 44:56
Speaker 2: I think the Talk Line boys are going to get
• 44:57
Speaker 2: into this a little bit. This blow up over the
• 45:01
Speaker 2: Trump commercials. that aired during college and NFL football over
• 45:06
Speaker 2: the weekend. I saw them a couple times, and I
• 45:11
Speaker 2: thought it was a little odd. And basically, what they
• 45:15
Speaker 2: did was they took a President Trump campaign ad from
• 45:20
Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, and they're running these almost,
• 45:26
Speaker 2: and I don't want to put words in the president
• 45:27
Speaker 2: of the administration's mouth, but almost running them as public
• 45:32
Speaker 2: service announcements, saying, you know, all about patriotism, which is
• 45:38
Speaker 2: all great and, you know, things of that nature. However,
• 45:41
Speaker 2: in the world of politics, if it is a campaign ad,
• 45:45
Speaker 2: there has to be certain things in it. Now, it said,
• 45:47
Speaker 2: the one I saw, I think it said something to
• 45:49
Speaker 2: the effect of paid for by the U.S. government or
• 45:52
Speaker 2: something like that. It appeared to me to be a
• 45:54
Speaker 2: little bit more of a campaign ad. I mean, I
• 45:57
Speaker 2: don't know if you saw them. If you saw it
• 45:59
  Speaker 2: as that, I... I got a little bit of a
• 46:01
Speaker 2: problem with it. And no, don't hit me with the
• 46:03
Speaker 2: Trump derangement syndrome. It's not that. I don't care who
• 46:05
Speaker 2: did it. I just it just seems to me a
• 46:07
Speaker 2: little to be a little bit disingenuous to me. And
• 46:11
Speaker 2: the battle between the Trump administration and the press continues.
• 46:15
Speaker 2: Of course, the judges come out, put a restraining order
• 46:17
Speaker 2: now on the the idea that the president banned Politico,
• 46:23
Speaker 2: MS Now and CNN from their press conferences. And there
• 46:26
Speaker 2: was the incident on Air Force One. last week that
• 46:30
Speaker 2: cnn wasn't allowed to be a part of and the
• 46:32
Speaker 2: way it works it's called pooling because of space constraints
• 46:38
Speaker 2: they can't have every network on there so basically what
• 46:40
Speaker 2: will happen is it could be cnn one week and
• 46:42
Speaker 2: then what cnn does they take the feed and they
• 46:45
Speaker 2: send it to fox news and they there's just one
• 46:47
Speaker 2: it happens locally sometimes as well with our local tv
• 46:50
Speaker 2: stations and radio affiliates as well only one entity can
• 46:54
Speaker 2: come because there's not enough space and then that entity
• 46:56
Speaker 2: will then feed it to the others Well, because Fox
• 47:02
Speaker 2: News was– I'm sorry, CNN wasn't there. The other ones
• 47:05
Speaker 2: ended up kind of missing out on it because they
• 47:07
Speaker 2: were the select pooler, if you will, for that particular day.
• 47:12
Speaker 2: So kind of sitting back and watching this whole thing
• 47:14
Speaker 2: right now, I did catch the attorney general on This
• 47:19
Speaker 2: Week yesterday with Martha Raddatz. And it was interesting, the
• 47:24
Speaker 2: conversation that took place because– He keeps saying that this
• 47:28
Speaker 2: whole thing with the Trump administration banning those entities, MSNOW, CNBC,
• 47:33
Speaker 2: and Politico, is because it is in national interest. It's
• 47:38
Speaker 2: a security risk. But in what the president said on
• 47:44
Speaker 2: his truth social and other places, I don't think he
• 47:46
Speaker 2: ever mentioned the word national security. He just talked about
• 47:49
Speaker 2: it being unfavorable press toward him, which, look, I mean, again,
• 47:55
Speaker 2: I'm a First Amendment absolutist, okay, 100%, whether I agree, disagree, whatever.
• 48:01
Speaker 2: But it's not the job of the press to make
• 48:04
Speaker 2: a president look good or to look bad. It's just
• 48:07
Speaker 2: to report. And there's going to be a certain slant.
• 48:11
  Speaker 2: I mean, I 100% get that. But I don't think
• 48:15
Speaker 2: this is going to end well for the president. I
• 48:18
Speaker 2: really don't. And a lot of the polling has kind
• 48:22
Speaker 2: of gone along those lines as well. And speaking of polling,
• 48:25
Speaker 2: keeping a close eye on the midterms now as October
• 48:27
Speaker 2: kicks in here in a couple days, the president, of course,
• 48:34
Speaker 2: has been out and he was at a ball game
• 48:36
Speaker 2: over the weekend and he was at the Tennessee game,
• 48:39
Speaker 2: Tennessee-Texas game. In my opinion, they're intentionally keeping him away
• 48:46
Speaker 2: from areas where That could be a swing state in
• 48:50
Speaker 2: the midterms either way, because quite frankly, a lot of
• 48:53
Speaker 2: those candidates do not want him involved. And there was
• 48:59
Speaker 2: there's been some and I watched some of the news
• 49:01
Speaker 2: shows over the weekend, some very interesting conversations back and
• 49:04
Speaker 2: forth about this. But bottom line is people like Mike Rogers,
• 49:07
  Speaker 2: I know Danny's a big fan of they don't want
• 49:09
Speaker 2: the president involved at all because he is a incredible
• 49:13
Speaker 2: outside West Virginia caveat outside West Virginia. He is incredibly
• 49:17
Speaker 2: unpopular on everything, and especially with independents. That's where he's losing.
• 49:23
Speaker 2: He's losing some ground with Republicans, not as, not that,
• 49:28
Speaker 2: you know, he's never popular with Democrats, but he's lost
• 49:30
Speaker 2: some ground with Republicans. But where the president is really
• 49:33
Speaker 2: struggling right now is with independents, and those independents are
• 49:38
Speaker 2: or what he needs, or what those candidates, not he needs,
• 49:41
Speaker 2: what those candidates need. The Dave Allen Show and 580

• 50:04
  Speaker 1: Uh, text.
• 50:05
Speaker 2: I forgot to mention this early. Good morning, Dave. Wanted

• 50:37
Speaker 2: with so many activist judges now in place appointed by anti-constitutionalists,
• 50:41
Speaker 2: Obama and Biden are basically DEI appointments. How many of
• 50:46
Speaker 2: them actually have relevance and true standing when they believe,
• 50:51
Speaker 2: can they legislate from the bench? Look who's here, ladies
• 50:55
Speaker 2: and gentlemen. He is the host of Metro News Talk Line,
• 50:58
Speaker 2: the co-host. His name is T.J.
• 51:00
  Speaker 5: Meadows.
• 51:00
Speaker 2: How you doing, my friend? Morning, sir. Doing well. I
• 51:03
Speaker 2: got to ask, did you get an opportunity to hit
• 51:06
Speaker 2: any golf balls this weekend because the weather was beautiful?
• 51:08
Speaker 5: I did. It was a wonderful weekend to get out.
• 51:10
Speaker 5: I hit a couple of different times, golfed a bit.
• 51:12
Speaker 5: It was great to be out. This is the time
• 51:15
Speaker 5: of year that a lot of golfers like myself really
• 51:18
Speaker 5: like because it's good weather. It's warm enough, obviously. It's fall.
• 51:22
Speaker 5: You're not sweating so much. It's a great time to
• 51:24
Speaker 5: get out and hit some balls, have some fun.
• 51:27
  Speaker 9: All right.
• 51:27
Speaker 2: What you got on the show today? So coming up
• 51:29
Speaker 2: on the show, we are going.
• 51:29
Speaker 5: To talk about this nuclear issue. The governor has pushed
• 51:34
Speaker 5: back on what the Charleston Gazette is saying.
• 51:36
Speaker 2: We'll talk about the issue.
• 51:37
Speaker 5: What's it mean? What are we really doing? We'll get
• 51:39
Speaker 5: into that. Jail bills in West Virginia. Ben Salengo joins
• 51:42
Speaker 5: us coming up at 1033. Michael McKenna from The Washington Times,
• 51:45
Speaker 5: good friend of the show, talking about permitting reform, talking
• 51:48
Speaker 5: about the war in Iran, the fact that we don't
• 51:49
Speaker 5: have a national declaration of war. He says we need one,
• 51:52
Speaker 5: that and much more. Maybe even get into this thing
• 51:55
Speaker 5: about the gift shop that I've stirred up. We'll see.
• 51:57
Speaker 2: I was telling the listeners about that a little bit earlier.
• 51:59
Speaker 2: If you haven't had a chance, go read TJ's commentary. Hey,
• 52:02
Speaker 2: I'll see you later today at Capital Market starting at
• 52:04
Speaker 2: four o'clock. Till then, have fun. I love somebody.
• 52:18
Speaker 1: We are proud to live here too.
